7 Vital Weight Loss Tips

I have struggled with my weight since I can remember and finally at the age of 34 I have figured out what works for me. I have cracked the code to maintaining a healthy and lean ideal weight. Along my journey, I have spent a lot of time looking for weight loss tips, studying nutrition and applying what I have learned. Weight Loss is not an easy thing, if you are like me I am constantly looking for different weight loss tips and information that will help me achieve my goals. Buy a Scale

This weight loss tip is easy, get a scale! It is very important to track your progress. It is very easy to lose track of your weight so you must stay focused on where you are. Weigh in twice a week and at the same time of the day. When I got a scale I would weigh in every Tuesday and Thursday morning before jumping into the shower. It is important to be consistent with the time of day and scale you are using. Your body weight will continue to fluctuate throughout the day and the week. This always kept me in check with my results and it gave me the opportunity to celebrate my wins. When my weight did not change or went up I would re-evaluate what I was doing. Be careful, do not beat yourself up if you are not getting the results you want as quick as you want. Be consistent and do not give up! You will achieve your goal!

Drink Water

I learned this weight loss tip in The Diet Solution Program. This weight loss tip is also mentioned in just about every weight loss article I have read. Drink Water, lots of it! Do the calculation, I learned in The Diet Solution Program that you must drink half your body weight in ounces of water everyday. This is crucial to your weight loss success! I suggest drinking a full glass of water first thing in the morning before you do anything. Get yourself a reusable water container and a Brita to ensure healthy fresh water. I measured out how many containers I needed to drink per day and I was diligent about it! I am still drinking a lot of water today. Keep in mind that you will need to drink an additional 8 ounces of water for every caffeinated beverage you consume and every workout you do.

Set up a Reward System

This is one of my favorite weight loss tips! It is so important to celebrate your successes along the way! I set up weekly goals and rewarded myself with either a treat from my favorite store, a massage, or a treatment from the spa! You will want to be realistic with your goals to set yourself up for success. It is amazing how great the momentum will build when you continually achieve your little goals within the week. Some goals I set for myself were working out 4 times in a week, or not eating chocolate all week, or sometimes it was to lose 1 pound in the week! When I achieved a major milestone in my weight I bought myself a new outfit!

Ask for Help

Here’s a weight loss tip, ask for help! Talk to people at the gym, friends, and family. Explain to them that you would like them to help you achieve your weight loss goal. You don’t have to do this by yourself! I had an accountability partner that I would check in with 3 times per week and I would communicate what actions I was going to take toward my goal that week. Having this accountability helped me stay on track. And, I found it inspiring to watch shows like the Biggest Loser or The Last 10 Pounds. You can pick up a lot of weight loss tips while watching. You are not alone in this journey, ask for help.

Be Prepared to Fail

This weight loss tip is very important to remember! Most people give up as soon as they experience some failure. You have no control of what has already happened, only what you can do now to change your results for the future. The secret is to keep moving forward, be sure to learn from your mistakes, and continue to adapt and change. Expect the ups and downs and stay focused on your desired result. You deserve to have everything you want in life. You will get through the tough times and it will make the journey that much more rewarding.

Take Photos

I was a bit scared of this weight loss tip and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding! Taking photos really helped me put things into perspective! I put on a bikini and had my boyfriend take photos so that I could see myself and track my progress. Wow! It was amazing to see a before and after photos! I really never saw myself as fat! When I realized the difference in my body after just a 10 pound difference I started to see myself differently. I also got a chance to celebrate my progress! Imagine how you will feel when you are lean and sexy sporting a bikini for your next beach vacation! I am still waiting on my boyfriend to take me to the beach somewhere!

Have a Cheat Day

You would never think that a weight loss tip would include eat pizza and drink wine! Every week have a cheat day! You can’t deprive yourself of all the things you enjoy all the time! I would eat some chocolate or pizza and definitely have some red wine on my cheat days. Cheat Day was amazing for my mental health and oh boy did I look forward to that day! Keep in mind moderation! You don’t want to ruin all the hard work you did all week.

Incidents, especially those unpleasant, are hardly expected, but being prepared to deal with them is all we can do minimize their impact. Accidents and medical emergencies are occurrences which many of us don’t like to anticipate. It is best to equip ourselves with necessary remediation to deal with any kind of situation. Injuries can happen at any time, anywhere and to anyone while carrying out the simplest of day to day tasks. It is always better to be forearmed with a first aid kit to counteract any kind of emergency.

If you have decided to own a kit, you can do it in two ways, either buy a ready-to-use one from retailers or assemble your customized kit. What ever be the case, the question remains, what all should its contents be. Deciding what to and what not to include depends on the need and the number of people the kit caters to. Hospital Visits: 10 Tips for a Helpful Experience

Our daughter needed an unusual type of nerve surgery and only two surgeons in the US performed the operation. A local surgeon was going to do it but, after he broke his foot, referred our daughter to a surgeon in New Hampshire. The thought of surgery was scary and our daughter asked us to accompany her.

The count-down to surgery involved several steps. First, her medical records were sent to the New Hampshire surgeon. Next, our daughter met with the surgeon. Using an anatomical model, he explained the surgery in simple and concise words. Medical tests were the third step and our daughter had them the next day.

Since surgery was slated for Monday, we had the weekend to ourselves. We visited my husband’s alma mater, visited an historic site, and toured a local museum. But we were careful not to wear our daughter out just before surgery.

She had the four-hour operation and was transferred to recovery. According to the surgeon, she wouldn’t be awake or lucid fo hours, so we returned to our motel. We visited our daughter the next day. How long should we stay? Were there visitation rules? Though my husband is a retired physician and I’m a health writer, we had questions about  hospital  visits. Fortunately, we picked up on tips quickly.

1. Stay home if you are ill. You don’t need to share your germs with the patient or  hospital  staff.

2. Sanitize your hands. We cleaned our hands before and after we visited our daughter. Sometimes we used the hand sanitizer by the elevators, and other times we used the sanitizer in our daughter’s room.

3. Avoid perfume and cologne. This tip comes from a WebMD video about  hospital  visits. I think visitors should also avoid perfumed hand lotion and lip gloss.

4. Limit your conversation. Visiting doesn’t mean you have to talk all the time. Your loved one will appreciate your presence as much as your words.

5. Bring something to read. I always had a paperback in my purse and a magazine. This planning saved me from reading the dated magazines in the family waiting room.

6. Ask about the  hospital’s  flower policy. Some  hospital  floors don’t allow flowers, balloons, or stuffed animals. Our daughter is allergic to rubber, something else we had to consider.

7. Sit in a chair, not on the bed. Your weight could crowd the patient, cause discomfort, and spread germs.

8. Set a time limit. Many health experts recommend 15-minute visits, especially after surgery. Our daughter wanted us to stay longer. We scheduled regular morning visits, lunch breaks, afternoon visits, and didn’t return in the evening.

9. Keep traffic “lanes” clear. Nurses and attending physicians need enough room for rolling computers and medical equipment and we were careful to stay out of the way.

10. Respect patient privacy. Visitors should not read medical charts or ask intrusive questions.

Most of all, keep a positive attitude. Your loved one or friend needs encouragement at this vulnerable time of life and your positive attitude can lift his or her spirits.

How to Talk With Your Doctor When You Don’t Understand Him/Her

What should you do when you don’t understand your doctor?

When your doctor says things you don’t understand, ask him/her to stop and rephrase what s/he is saying.

One reason for malpractice suits is lack of proper follow-up care when the patient and his/her family do not fully understand the doctor’s instructions.

When something goes wrong, both the patient and the doctor suffer. Then, as often seems to be the case, lawyers step in to take advantage of an already awful situation. No wonder we’ve moved away from improved medical care to one weighed under expensive lawsuits with doctors covering their assests.

When your doctor appears to be running short on patience, explain how serious you are about your recovery

“Doctor, I feel you’re in a hurry, but I want to be sure I recover fully. Is there additional information beyond–list key points – I should know that we may not have covered?”

Since most patients won’t take this step, your doctor will likely pause to reconsider. Keep in mind, this is meant as a sincere comment from a patient vested in his/her own health care. (Doctors know that despite their efforts, some of their patients have no intention of following their recommendations.)

If the doctor still seems to be running on the fumes of patience, try this approach:

“Doctor, as we already know, the costs of malpractice suits threaten quality medical care. You and I are partners in my care and I need to be sure we have the same vision of your recommendations. We want a successful outcome of your treatment, right? [Pause here to allow doctor to digest.] Now, could you please explain why it is critical that I need to (doctor’s prescribed treatment)?”

Again, similar comments delicately phrased may encourage your doctor to communicate more clearly to prevent a mishap. If your doctor is still in a hurry, there may be a good reason. You may either leave and reschedule or if you also have an urgent need and the doctor has spent only a few minutes with you, ask what s/he suggests you do so you can receive the care you urgently need.

Keep the dialog open with questions.

How can we avoid misunderstandings?

Ask questions.

Keep asking questions and paraphrasing, repeating, and even writing down what the doctor says until you’re sure you understand.

Ask the doctor to listen to your words of understanding or to read your notes.

This adds another safety net under your care plan; thus, reducing any risk of an unintended outcome. Doctors are busy. You see them whip in and out of appointments. Stand your ground and be sure you understand fully what the doctor is recommending. your LIFE depends on it. A personal example will illustrate why this is so important:

After outpatient surgery, the doctor explained my care plan. I asked questions and he seemed rushed. He wanted to leave. Feeling pressured, I stopped asking and instead followed his post-surgical care plan to the letter.

Three days later, the wound healed closed from the outside. I didn’t realize then that this was bad. I began running a fever and then went into shock.

I was rushed to the medical center, given IV and oral antibiotics to stem the rapidly spreading infection.

The doctor neglected to explain that the wound must drain as it heals closed from the inside.

I had to return to surgery. This time, I insisted that my husband accompany me into the surgical room. Surprisingly, the doctor agreed. The doctor re-opened the wound and cleaned it out. David stood my ground until the doctor answered my questions to my satisfaction.

At one point, the doctor asked if my husband were threatening him, because David blocked the exit until all my questions were answered.

Let’s hope your doctor’s visit won’t go to this extreme. However, I share this experience, so you know how far you may have to go. If the infection was allowed to spread further, I might have died! You only have one life; so, ask questions and make sure the doctor listens to your understanding of your follow-on medical care.

You may just save a life – yours or your loved one’s.

Advantages and Disadvantages to Bio Fuels

The term bio refers to life as a whole. The biofuel is obtained from dead and decomposed plants and animal waste which are found in all states of matter.

There are many advantages and disadvantages to biofuels when using them as energy sources. The main difference between fossil fuels and bio fuels is the time taken to replenish them. Biofuels are renewable resource and can be obtained easily compared to fossil fuels which take over a million years. The burning of biofuels is not as hazardous as fossil fuels.

The biofuels are classified into 4 types based on the generation and are aptly entitled as first, second, third and fourth generation bio fuels.

Vegetable fats, carbohydrates like sugar and starch, food-crops, animal fats etc. contribute in the production of biogas bio-diesel and also vegetable oil. They are typical referred to as first generation biofuels.

Wood is decomposed to form alcohols and diesel which in turn fall under the second generation of bio fuels. In general second generation bio fuels are produced from biomass which offers a better balance in comparison to first generation fuels.

Algae are the floating waste matter over the water which at times causes several problems to aquatic life. These algae when taken on a large scale provide a large amount of biofuels. They fall under the third generation of bio fuels and aren’t harmful to the land.

The bio fuel generated by scientific methods where micro organisms are allowed to breed on plants and carbon dioxide, fall under the fourth generation biofuels.

The main advantages of biofuels are that they offer a better alternative to the fast depleting fossil fuels. They are comparatively less hazardous as their combustion forms lower amount of carbon residues. Since they are prepared from very basic sources, they are cheap and highly beneficial.

However every coin has two sides and bio fuels have some disadvantages as well. The main problem is that they are not entirely environment friendly. This has always been a topic of debate. Another problem is the want of land. Bio fuel generation requires large areas for cultivation and this poses a huge problem. Again the problem is that of consumption as the same plant is used for both fuel generation and human consumption which becomes ironical.

If you are not ill and just need a vaccination, you could benefit from skipping the doctor’s office completely. Many retail pharmacies now offer onsite walk-in  clinics  that can administer vaccines such as those for flu or shingles. You can get in and out in less than twenty minutes and avoid the hassle of dealing with nurses and doctors just to get your yearly preventative vaccination.

Evaluation of Illness

During cold and flu season, getting in to see your regular physician can be difficult because everyone else is suffering from similar symptoms. By going to a walk-in  clinic , you can be evaluated to see if you are suffering from a cold or the flu. Depending on what your ailment is, the physician on duty can prescribe medication to help alleviate symptoms and help you get well sooner.

In addition to testing for common respiratory illnesses, these centers also test and treat stomach ailments that present with diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. They also evaluate joint pain, oral ailments, and even eye problems.

Graves Disease Causes and Cures

Many people who have been diagnosed with Graves Disease wonder how they developed this autoimmune thyroid disorder in the first place. The truth is that there are many different Graves Disease causes that exist, and in this article I’ll discuss some of the more common reasons why people develop Graves’ Disease. When I personally was diagnosed with this condition I too wanted to know what was the cause, so I can definitely relate with what you’re going through.

It was perhaps even tougher for me, as I’m a holistic doctor that not only believes that there is a cause for every condition, but in most cases there also is a cure. And while there isn’t a magic pill or supplement to cure Graves Disease, for many people it is possible to restore one’s health through a natural treatment protocol. I’ll briefly discuss this later in this article.

But first, here are some of the different Graves Disease causes:

Graves Disease Cause #1: inability to handle stress. Although most people know that stress can cause a lot of problems, most don’t truly understand the impact that chronic stress can have on one’s health over a period of many months or years. Our bodies were designed to handle acute stress situations, but not with chronic stress. As a result, a person who deals with chronic stress and does a poor job of managing it will most likely develop adrenal issues, which in turn can affect immunity, and over a period of time can lead to the development of an autoimmune condition.

Obviously it is not possible to completely eliminate the stress from your life. But most of us can do a much better job of handling stress. In fact, for anyone with Graves’ Disease looking to restore their health, stress management is a key component.

Graves Disease Cause #2: Nutritional deficiencies. Having one or more nutritional deficiencies can cause or contribute to Graves Disease. There are many different nutritional deficiencies one can have, but two of the more common ones are iodine and Vitamin D. And while you might not be able to directly control this potential cause of Graves’ Disease (although some research does suggest otherwise), you definitely can control some of the other causes I have discussed thus far. Some research studies show that people with genetic tendencies towards certain conditions may have such conditions triggered by neglecting the lifestyle factors I just discussed. Either way, rather than worry about whether your condition is caused by factors you can’t control, it will only benefit your health to improve other factors that you do have control over.

So these are some of the common Graves Disease Causes. Since most endocrinologists label this condition as being incurable they don’t become too concerned with the cause. However, for a natural endocrine doctor, the cause of this autoimmune thyroid disorder is important when trying to restore the health of someone with Graves’ Disease.

Curing Graves Disease Is No Easy Task

Las Vegas Drug Scene

Some say that the Las Vegas Drug scene is really bad. Others say that the drug scene is mostly on the Strip and near the nudie bars. This is simply not so, in fact it is all over the town. Indeed, I relate with what these military folks say, but the drug problem in the US is ramped and it is really ramped in Las Vegas and not just the Strip either. I do know that the FBI considering hiring pot smokers and of course this is proof of the ramped problem in our society. But we must get rid of this Crystal Meth, it is really bad news for people’s bodies and I do not believe I should have to pay the increased health care costs that will plague our civilization in the coming years. Things like heart attacks at age 35 and rotted out kidneys. We just cannot afford this as a nation, health care costs are already causing losses and leading to bankruptcy as GM noted this past week.

One recent visitor to Las Vegas said to our investigative team while looking for a job having recently re-located to the area;

We told her to get a digital picture of the lady and that If you don’t do something no one will. This is the problem. You see. Additionally our investigative team also interviewed the drug taskforce group and they told us for everyone you bust there are 5 more ready to take their place the next day.
