7 Vital Weight Loss Tips

I have struggled with my weight since I can remember and finally at the age of 34 I have figured out what works for me. I have cracked the code to maintaining a healthy and lean ideal weight. Along my journey, I have spent a lot of time looking for weight loss tips, studying nutrition and applying what I have learned. Weight Loss is not an easy thing, if you are like me I am constantly looking for different weight loss tips and information that will help me achieve my goals. Here are some of the weight loss tips that have helped me on my journey. I hope these ideas will become useful to you in your weight loss journey!

Buy a Scale

This weight loss tip is easy, get a scale! It is very important to track your progress. It is very easy to lose track of your weight so you must stay focused on where you are. Weigh in twice a week and at the same time of the day. When I got a scale I would weigh in every Tuesday and Thursday morning before jumping into the shower. It is important to be consistent with the time of day and scale you are using. Your body weight will continue to fluctuate throughout the day and the week. This always kept me in check with my results and it gave me the opportunity to celebrate my wins. When my weight did not change or went up I would re-evaluate what I was doing. Be careful, do not beat yourself up if you are not getting the results you want as quick as you want. Be consistent and do not give up! You will achieve your goal!

Drink Water

I learned this weight loss tip in The Diet Solution Program. This weight loss tip is also mentioned in just about every weight loss article I have read. Drink Water, lots of it! Do the calculation, I learned in The Diet Solution Program that you must drink half your body weight in ounces of water everyday. This is crucial to your weight loss success! I suggest drinking a full glass of water first thing in the morning before you do anything. Get yourself a reusable water container and a Brita to ensure healthy fresh water. I measured out how many containers I needed to drink per day and I was diligent about it! I am still drinking a lot of water today. Keep in mind that you will need to drink an additional 8 ounces of water for every caffeinated beverage you consume and every workout you do.

Set up a Reward System

This is one of my favorite weight loss tips! It is so important to celebrate your successes along the way! I set up weekly goals and rewarded myself with either a treat from my favorite store, a massage, or a treatment from the spa! You will want to be realistic with your goals to set yourself up for success. It is amazing how great the momentum will build when you continually achieve your little goals within the week. Some goals I set for myself were working out 4 times in a week, or not eating chocolate all week, or sometimes it was to lose 1 pound in the week! When I achieved a major milestone in my weight I bought myself a new outfit!

Ask for Help

Here’s a weight loss tip, ask for help! Talk to people at the gym, friends, and family. Explain to them that you would like them to help you achieve your weight loss goal. You don’t have to do this by yourself! I had an accountability partner that I would check in with 3 times per week and I would communicate what actions I was going to take toward my goal that week. Having this accountability helped me stay on track. And, I found it inspiring to watch shows like the Biggest Loser or The Last 10 Pounds. You can pick up a lot of weight loss tips while watching. You are not alone in this journey, ask for help.

Be Prepared to Fail

This weight loss tip is very important to remember! Most people give up as soon as they experience some failure. You have no control of what has already happened, only what you can do now to change your results for the future. The secret is to keep moving forward, be sure to learn from your mistakes, and continue to adapt and change. Expect the ups and downs and stay focused on your desired result. You deserve to have everything you want in life. You will get through the tough times and it will make the journey that much more rewarding.

Take Photos

I was a bit scared of this weight loss tip and it turned out to be one of the most rewarding! Taking photos really helped me put things into perspective! I put on a bikini and had my boyfriend take photos so that I could see myself and track my progress. Wow! It was amazing to see a before and after photos! I really never saw myself as fat! When I realized the difference in my body after just a 10 pound difference I started to see myself differently. I also got a chance to celebrate my progress! Imagine how you will feel when you are lean and sexy sporting a bikini for your next beach vacation! I am still waiting on my boyfriend to take me to the beach somewhere!

Have a Cheat Day

You would never think that a weight loss tip would include eat pizza and drink wine! Every week have a cheat day! You can’t deprive yourself of all the things you enjoy all the time! I would eat some chocolate or pizza and definitely have some red wine on my cheat days. Cheat Day was amazing for my mental health and oh boy did I look forward to that day! Keep in mind moderation! You don’t want to ruin all the hard work you did all week.

I hope you find these weight loss tips helpful. Keep working hard and smart, you will achieve your goals! For further information, I encourage you to check out The Diet Solution Program and take control of your life now! I am confident the knowledge and information I learned from this program will help you just as it had helped me in my weight loss journey.

First Aid Kit – The Immediate Medical Aid

Incidents, especially those unpleasant, are hardly expected, but being prepared to deal with them is all we can do minimize their impact. Accidents and medical emergencies are occurrences which many of us don’t like to anticipate. It is best to equip ourselves with necessary remediation to deal with any kind of situation. Injuries can happen at any time, anywhere and to anyone while carrying out the simplest of day to day tasks. It is always better to be forearmed with a first aid kit to counteract any kind of emergency.

If you have decided to own a kit, you can do it in two ways, either buy a ready-to-use one from retailers or assemble your customized kit. What ever be the case, the question remains, what all should its contents be. Deciding what to and what not to include depends on the need and the number of people the kit caters to. It is important to pay attention to the details of what goes into it. After all, it may save a life someday!

In every kit, it is mandatory to have a first aid manual so that you do not go wrong while treating an injury. Every kit must have necessities like adhesive tape, bandages, safety pins, gloves, antiseptic wipes, saline, thermometer, ointment for burn and a torch. Not just that, some kits even include medications like ibuprofen, aspirin, paracetamol and codeine. The first aid box should always be marked appropriately in order to ensure easy identification in a situation of an emergency. Most are required to have a green rectangle with a white cross on it. Older children should be trained on how to use the basic aids in the kit. The contents of the kit such as those of the ones above would serve the purpose of a home first aid, but a specialized kit would be required for environments that pose higher risks. For such, you should have specific aids packed in your kit.

For sports enthusiasts, a first aid kit is a must-have because injuries might take place at any time. The kits content may differ depending on the type of sport. Outdoor sport players should have additional water supplies and sunscreen packed. Cut and abrasions are highly expected among baseball and softball players, so bandages and ice packs cannot be left out in their first aid box. A good first aid kit must have contents to tackle three most important aspects during an injury which are airway, breathing and circulation. Some of the more advanced kits contain air masks and face shields.

Now, I hope you have a clear idea of what all needs to be included in your first aid box, whether you buy or make it. There are few more things to be taken into account, when you think of safety.

• Keep a list of emergency numbers handy.

• Make sure that the kit you buy is ISO compliant.

• Keep the kit within easy reach.

• Place it out of your childrens’ reach.

• Remember to restock it from time to time.

Follow the above tips and stay safe!

Hospital Visits: 10 Tips for a Helpful Experience

Our daughter needed an unusual type of nerve surgery and only two surgeons in the US performed the operation. A local surgeon was going to do it but, after he broke his foot, referred our daughter to a surgeon in New Hampshire. The thought of surgery was scary and our daughter asked us to accompany her.

The count-down to surgery involved several steps. First, her medical records were sent to the New Hampshire surgeon. Next, our daughter met with the surgeon. Using an anatomical model, he explained the surgery in simple and concise words. Medical tests were the third step and our daughter had them the next day.

Since surgery was slated for Monday, we had the weekend to ourselves. We visited my husband’s alma mater, visited an historic site, and toured a local museum. But we were careful not to wear our daughter out just before surgery.

She had the four-hour operation and was transferred to recovery. According to the surgeon, she wouldn’t be awake or lucid fo hours, so we returned to our motel. We visited our daughter the next day. How long should we stay? Were there visitation rules? Though my husband is a retired physician and I’m a health writer, we had questions about  hospital  visits. Fortunately, we picked up on tips quickly.

1. Stay home if you are ill. You don’t need to share your germs with the patient or  hospital  staff.

2. Sanitize your hands. We cleaned our hands before and after we visited our daughter. Sometimes we used the hand sanitizer by the elevators, and other times we used the sanitizer in our daughter’s room.

3. Avoid perfume and cologne. This tip comes from a WebMD video about  hospital  visits. I think visitors should also avoid perfumed hand lotion and lip gloss.

4. Limit your conversation. Visiting doesn’t mean you have to talk all the time. Your loved one will appreciate your presence as much as your words.

5. Bring something to read. I always had a paperback in my purse and a magazine. This planning saved me from reading the dated magazines in the family waiting room.

6. Ask about the  hospital’s  flower policy. Some  hospital  floors don’t allow flowers, balloons, or stuffed animals. Our daughter is allergic to rubber, something else we had to consider.

7. Sit in a chair, not on the bed. Your weight could crowd the patient, cause discomfort, and spread germs.

8. Set a time limit. Many health experts recommend 15-minute visits, especially after surgery. Our daughter wanted us to stay longer. We scheduled regular morning visits, lunch breaks, afternoon visits, and didn’t return in the evening.

9. Keep traffic “lanes” clear. Nurses and attending physicians need enough room for rolling computers and medical equipment and we were careful to stay out of the way.

10. Respect patient privacy. Visitors should not read medical charts or ask intrusive questions.

Most of all, keep a positive attitude. Your loved one or friend needs encouragement at this vulnerable time of life and your positive attitude can lift his or her spirits.

How to Talk With Your Doctor When You Don’t Understand Him/Her

What should you do when you don’t understand your doctor?

When your doctor says things you don’t understand, ask him/her to stop and rephrase what s/he is saying.

One reason for malpractice suits is lack of proper follow-up care when the patient and his/her family do not fully understand the doctor’s instructions.

When something goes wrong, both the patient and the doctor suffer. Then, as often seems to be the case, lawyers step in to take advantage of an already awful situation. No wonder we’ve moved away from improved medical care to one weighed under expensive lawsuits with doctors covering their assests.

When your doctor appears to be running short on patience, explain how serious you are about your recovery

“Doctor, I feel you’re in a hurry, but I want to be sure I recover fully. Is there additional information beyond–list key points – I should know that we may not have covered?”

Since most patients won’t take this step, your doctor will likely pause to reconsider. Keep in mind, this is meant as a sincere comment from a patient vested in his/her own health care. (Doctors know that despite their efforts, some of their patients have no intention of following their recommendations.)

If the doctor still seems to be running on the fumes of patience, try this approach:

“Doctor, as we already know, the costs of malpractice suits threaten quality medical care. You and I are partners in my care and I need to be sure we have the same vision of your recommendations. We want a successful outcome of your treatment, right? [Pause here to allow doctor to digest.] Now, could you please explain why it is critical that I need to (doctor’s prescribed treatment)?”

Again, similar comments delicately phrased may encourage your doctor to communicate more clearly to prevent a mishap. If your doctor is still in a hurry, there may be a good reason. You may either leave and reschedule or if you also have an urgent need and the doctor has spent only a few minutes with you, ask what s/he suggests you do so you can receive the care you urgently need.

Keep the dialog open with questions.

How can we avoid misunderstandings?

Ask questions.

Keep asking questions and paraphrasing, repeating, and even writing down what the doctor says until you’re sure you understand.

Ask the doctor to listen to your words of understanding or to read your notes.

This adds another safety net under your care plan; thus, reducing any risk of an unintended outcome. Doctors are busy. You see them whip in and out of appointments. Stand your ground and be sure you understand fully what the doctor is recommending. your LIFE depends on it. A personal example will illustrate why this is so important:

After outpatient surgery, the doctor explained my care plan. I asked questions and he seemed rushed. He wanted to leave. Feeling pressured, I stopped asking and instead followed his post-surgical care plan to the letter.

Three days later, the wound healed closed from the outside. I didn’t realize then that this was bad. I began running a fever and then went into shock.

I was rushed to the medical center, given IV and oral antibiotics to stem the rapidly spreading infection.

The doctor neglected to explain that the wound must drain as it heals closed from the inside.

I had to return to surgery. This time, I insisted that my husband accompany me into the surgical room. Surprisingly, the doctor agreed. The doctor re-opened the wound and cleaned it out. David stood my ground until the doctor answered my questions to my satisfaction.

At one point, the doctor asked if my husband were threatening him, because David blocked the exit until all my questions were answered.

Let’s hope your doctor’s visit won’t go to this extreme. However, I share this experience, so you know how far you may have to go. If the infection was allowed to spread further, I might have died! You only have one life; so, ask questions and make sure the doctor listens to your understanding of your follow-on medical care.

You may just save a life – yours or your loved one’s.

Advantages and Disadvantages to Bio Fuels

The term bio refers to life as a whole. The biofuel is obtained from dead and decomposed plants and animal waste which are found in all states of matter.

There are many advantages and disadvantages to biofuels when using them as energy sources. The main difference between fossil fuels and bio fuels is the time taken to replenish them. Biofuels are renewable resource and can be obtained easily compared to fossil fuels which take over a million years. The burning of biofuels is not as hazardous as fossil fuels.

The biofuels are classified into 4 types based on the generation and are aptly entitled as first, second, third and fourth generation bio fuels.

Vegetable fats, carbohydrates like sugar and starch, food-crops, animal fats etc. contribute in the production of biogas bio-diesel and also vegetable oil. They are typical referred to as first generation biofuels.

Wood is decomposed to form alcohols and diesel which in turn fall under the second generation of bio fuels. In general second generation bio fuels are produced from biomass which offers a better balance in comparison to first generation fuels.

Algae are the floating waste matter over the water which at times causes several problems to aquatic life. These algae when taken on a large scale provide a large amount of biofuels. They fall under the third generation of bio fuels and aren’t harmful to the land.

The bio fuel generated by scientific methods where micro organisms are allowed to breed on plants and carbon dioxide, fall under the fourth generation biofuels.

The main advantages of biofuels are that they offer a better alternative to the fast depleting fossil fuels. They are comparatively less hazardous as their combustion forms lower amount of carbon residues. Since they are prepared from very basic sources, they are cheap and highly beneficial.

However every coin has two sides and bio fuels have some disadvantages as well. The main problem is that they are not entirely environment friendly. This has always been a topic of debate. Another problem is the want of land. Bio fuel generation requires large areas for cultivation and this poses a huge problem. Again the problem is that of consumption as the same plant is used for both fuel generation and human consumption which becomes ironical.

EMS And Sports Injury Rehabilitation

Electronic muscle stimulators, or EMS devices, have been used in hospitals and rehab clinics for quite some time. After a while, it was found that athletes could benefit from electronic muscle stimulation. They benefit because the low-level electrical current stimulates the muscles and helps them heal after a strenuous workout. Nowadays it is not uncommon to find EMS devices in medical facilities, gyms, and even in homes to help individuals who have had some kind of muscle injury. Sports injuries are amongst the most common injuries in which EMS devices are used to rehabilitate the affected muscle groups.

EMS and rehab

It has long been known that EMS devices are effective in rehab environments. When a person has a muscle tear or other muscle injury, the low-level electrical current of electronic muscle stimulators stimulates the muscle. This stimulation is just enough to initiate repair of the muscle. It is very important for those tears to heal so that the muscle becomes stronger. In a rehab environment, the therapist is counting on that repair to occur so that they can move on to the next phase of the rehabilitation process. If the therapist is unable to repair those muscles, then they cannot work on strengthening them.

Without electronic muscle stimulation, the repair process would move much slower. In other words, it has revolutionized physical therapy and helps get athletes back on the playing field in no time. Here is what electronic muscle stimulation can do for athletes who have been injured:

o The nerves and the muscles are able to recover faster after an injury.

o Electronic muscle stimulators stimulate any damaged muscle tissue that may not be heavily influenced by therapy alone.

o EMS devices help stimulate muscle tissue that may not be affected by exercise.

o Electronic muscle stimulation speeds up the rehabilitation process, which decreases the overall cost of physical therapy.

Nowadays, most rehabilitation clinics use EMS devices because of their healing properties. After a person undergoes therapy, the therapist may have the patient sit down with the electrodes of an electronic muscle stimulator connected to the affected muscles. This can also be very relaxing because much of the pain is relieved during this period. Furthermore, the effects continue for a while after the session is completed. So not only is the healing process sped up, there is also a certain degree of pain relief that would not be achieved otherwise.

A healthier you

Basically, the use of EMS devices during therapy improves the quality of life in a lot of ways. A person does not have to go through rehabilitation as long as they used to. The athlete can be back on the playing field a lot quicker than in previous times. There is also the fact that the process is a lot less painful. So many athletes who have had to go through the traditional therapy methods find themselves becoming depressed because they long to be back in the game. Instead, they have to focus just on healing.

When the process takes longer than expected, the athlete can begin to feel hopeless. Electronic muscle stimulation has improved that significantly and gives a lot more hope to athletes. It lets them know that it is possible they will be playing again in no time. This is especially important for high school athletes looking to get into the best colleges. It is also important for college athletes wanting to go pro. An injury at the wrong time can ruin potential careers. If treated the right way through EMS devices, losing those opportunities does not have to become a reality. Long gone are the days that sports injuries ruin futures.

Coenzyme Q10 As A Dietary Supplement

A non-protein and vitamin-like substance, Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10 is vital in energy production. This energy is what most of the cells, tissues, and organs use to perform their various functions in processes. It is also referred to as ubiquinone, which just fits its ubiquitous characteristic – it is found in every cell in the body, specifically in the mitochondria of cells. The body naturally produces it, but its ability to produce and recycle it declines with age. On the average, natural levels of the substance diminish when you reach 30. By the time you reach 50, its levels may be too low to support optimal heart function. Deficiency of the substance can lead to serious health problems, and this is exactly the reason why supplementation of the substance is very important.

As Coenzyme Q10 is needed in energy production, the major organs that are affected when you have deficiency of it are your vital organs, such as the heart, kidneys, and liver. These organs are highly active, so they use up a lot of energy. Moreover, various studies have proven the ability of the substance to prevent or even repair damage to these vital organs. One study, for instance, found that it improves heart mortality among patients who have moderate to severe heart failure.

Another reason why the substance is an important dietary supplement is that it also works as an antioxidant. It helps the body get rid of free radicals and prevents oxidative stress and damage to the heart, kidneys, and liver, protecting the body from a wide range of medical conditions and diseases.

Besides supplementation, you can also get your source of Coenzyme Q10 from certain foods, such as peanuts, soybeans, hazelnuts, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, carrots, garlic, sweet pepper, and eggs.

Services Provided at a Walk-In Clinic

Getting a doctor’s appointment can be difficult, especially if you are in a hurry. There are times when an illness hits after regular  clinic  hours and you simply cannot wait until the next business day. While going to the emergency room is an option, if you do not have a true emergency you could wait for hours. Choosing to go to a walk-in  clinic  may get you out faster. Stand-alone sites often have a team of physicians managing the staff. Centers run at retail outlets or malls usually have a nurse practitioner at the helm. Here are some of the services provided by local centers.

Vaccinations

If you are not ill and just need a vaccination, you could benefit from skipping the doctor’s office completely. Many retail pharmacies now offer onsite walk-in  clinics  that can administer vaccines such as those for flu or shingles. You can get in and out in less than twenty minutes and avoid the hassle of dealing with nurses and doctors just to get your yearly preventative vaccination.

Evaluation of Illness

During cold and flu season, getting in to see your regular physician can be difficult because everyone else is suffering from similar symptoms. By going to a walk-in  clinic , you can be evaluated to see if you are suffering from a cold or the flu. Depending on what your ailment is, the physician on duty can prescribe medication to help alleviate symptoms and help you get well sooner.

In addition to testing for common respiratory illnesses, these centers also test and treat stomach ailments that present with diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. They also evaluate joint pain, oral ailments, and even eye problems.

Minor Injuries

A hospital emergency room staff should evaluate severe injuries. However, minor injuries such as non-life-threatening cuts, bumps, and burns are treatable at a walk-in  clinic . If you are uncertain about whether or not a bone is broken, stand-alone centers are equipped with x-ray testing equipment.

Other injuries that are easily treated at one of these centers include sprains and strains, sunburn, abrasions, splinter removal, and animal bites. Those with small children who may have put items in their ears or up their noses can also have these items removed without a trip to the emergency room.

While urgent care centers can be a great alternative to emergency rooms for minor injuries, centers located within retail outlets and malls are not the places to be seen for major injuries or illnesses. These sites are often not equipped with all the items needed to verify a serious problem.

Other Health Care Needs

Many walk-in  clinic  practitioners are working to make their center more like a traditional doctor’s office in that they may require an appointment for anything more than minor injuries or common seasonal illnesses. These appointments do not have to be made days in advance. Most will let you walk into the  clinic  and set an appointment at that time.

Those who do offer appointments in addition to their walk-in services tout that it reduces wait times for their patients.

Graves Disease Causes and Cures

Many people who have been diagnosed with Graves Disease wonder how they developed this autoimmune thyroid disorder in the first place. The truth is that there are many different Graves Disease causes that exist, and in this article I’ll discuss some of the more common reasons why people develop Graves’ Disease. When I personally was diagnosed with this condition I too wanted to know what was the cause, so I can definitely relate with what you’re going through.

It was perhaps even tougher for me, as I’m a holistic doctor that not only believes that there is a cause for every condition, but in most cases there also is a cure. And while there isn’t a magic pill or supplement to cure Graves Disease, for many people it is possible to restore one’s health through a natural treatment protocol. I’ll briefly discuss this later in this article.

But first, here are some of the different Graves Disease causes:

Graves Disease Cause #1: inability to handle stress. Although most people know that stress can cause a lot of problems, most don’t truly understand the impact that chronic stress can have on one’s health over a period of many months or years. Our bodies were designed to handle acute stress situations, but not with chronic stress. As a result, a person who deals with chronic stress and does a poor job of managing it will most likely develop adrenal issues, which in turn can affect immunity, and over a period of time can lead to the development of an autoimmune condition.

Obviously it is not possible to completely eliminate the stress from your life. But most of us can do a much better job of handling stress. In fact, for anyone with Graves’ Disease looking to restore their health, stress management is a key component.

Graves Disease Cause #2: Nutritional deficiencies. Having one or more nutritional deficiencies can cause or contribute to Graves Disease. There are many different nutritional deficiencies one can have, but two of the more common ones are iodine and Vitamin D. Many people wrongly assume that people with Graves’ Disease have an excess of iodine, but this usually isn’t the case. For more information on the importance of iodine and why most people are deficient in it, I highly recommend reading the book “Iodine, Why You Need It, Why You Can’t Live Without It”.

Vitamin D is another important nutrient when it comes to immunity. One of the big reasons many people are deficient in vitamin D is because they avoid the sun, and/or put sunscreen on every time they go outside. For more information about vitamin D, visit the website vitamindcouncil.

These are just two of the common vitamins/nutrients that one can be deficient in. But there are other nutrients that people can be deficient in which have a huge impact on your health. This is yet another reason why you should consider consulting with a holistic doctor, as most endocrinologists and general practitioners won’t consider such deficiencies as being one of the Graves Disease causes.

Graves Disease Cause #3: Environmental Toxins. Just like it’s impossible to completely eliminate the stress from your life, it is also not likely that you will avoid all of the environmental toxins. In the book “The Autoimmune Epidemic”, the author talks about how toxins can affect the immune system and possibly lead to the development of autoimmune conditions. It makes sense when you think about it, as over the last few decades we have been exposed to more and more environmental toxins, and the rate of autoimmune thyroid conditions such as Graves’ Disease have also increased.

Of course more of us have chronic stress and nutritional deficiencies these days as well, so it’s not always easy to pinpoint what exactly has caused your condition to develop. On the other hand, it’s difficult to argue that minimizing our exposure to environmental toxins will only help to keep our immune systems stronger and therefore potentially decrease the chances of developing an autoimmune condition.

Graves Disease Cause #4: Genetics. Although genetics can play a role in the development of an autoimmune condition such as Graves’ Disease, the good news is that it does not play as big of a role as many people think. And while you might not be able to directly control this potential cause of Graves’ Disease (although some research does suggest otherwise), you definitely can control some of the other causes I have discussed thus far. Some research studies show that people with genetic tendencies towards certain conditions may have such conditions triggered by neglecting the lifestyle factors I just discussed. Either way, rather than worry about whether your condition is caused by factors you can’t control, it will only benefit your health to improve other factors that you do have control over.

So these are some of the common Graves Disease Causes. Since most endocrinologists label this condition as being incurable they don’t become too concerned with the cause. However, for a natural endocrine doctor, the cause of this autoimmune thyroid disorder is important when trying to restore the health of someone with Graves’ Disease.

Curing Graves Disease Is No Easy Task

Let me first begin by telling you that curing Graves Disease is not an easy process. This is why it’s wise to consult with a competent natural endocrine doctor, as they will look for the underlying cause of the problem, and then recommend a natural treatment protocol to help restore your health. So for example, if they determine that lifestyle factors are the culprit, such as stress and nutritional deficiencies, then they obviously will help you to better manage the stress in your life, eat better, recommend proper nutritional supplements, address any hormonal imbalances, etc.

If environmental toxins are the problem, which they are in many people, then they will try to remove these toxins from your body, as well as minimize your exposure to these environmental toxins, which admittedly is not always an easy task. While it’s more challenging to help someone with a condition that was caused by genetics, the good news is that is rare for an autoimmune condition such as Graves’ Disease to be caused solely by genetics. Most of the time the person can be helped through natural treatment methods.

Being a natural healthcare professional, I’m of course biased, and therefore recommend that people with Graves’ Disease consult with a natural endocrine doctor. After all, anti-thyroid drugs don’t do anything for the actual cause of the condition, and radioactive iodine should be a last resort due to the damage it does to the thyroid gland. When you think about it, there really isn’t much too lose by speaking with an expert, but there is a lot to gain, and it just might be one of the best decisions you ever make.

Health Enhancing Behaviors

Health is wealth and there is no substitute to health. If a person is healthy, then everything seems sweet but if health is disturbed then the sweetest thing will look bad. A healthy person can enjoy every aspect of life and praise the beauty of nature, whereas a sick person cannot enjoy anything about life.

Everyone likes to remain healthy and enjoy life, but many people are unable to enjoy life because of health problems, the health problems arises when a person fails to take care of his/her health in way it is required, resulting in distress and illness. Health is nature’s gift, and health can be improved by following some small measures.

Healthy body leads to healthy mind, and healthy mind leads to positive thoughts, and positive thoughts leads to ideas that bring positive change in the world and make world a better place. So to remain healthy is very important, not only for individual but for whole society.

Following are some health enhancing behaviors, which can help people in leading a healthy life:

Early to bed and early to rise

“Early to bed and early to rise; makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.” It is a very famous quote and is taught widely in nursery Rhymes to children in order to strengthen this habit from very early age. It is a known fact that six hours sleep is mandatory for human mind and body to get required rest. The night is made for rest and day for working. Sleeping early and waking up early in the morning is the key to lead a healthy life, when a person gets a good six hours sleep at night, then the body and mind remain fresh all day and a person’s performance increases every day. Lack of sleep is the cause of unrest and makes a person tired all day; similarly sleeping more than required i.e., more than six hours also cause tiredness. Sleeping early and rising early is a basic health enhancing behavior.

Daily Exercise

Human body operates like a machine, when the machine remains idle for a long time, it gets rusted and its performance declines. Similarly muscles of human body require movements to work properly. Exercise is very important health enhancing behavior; it keeps muscles strong and increases the stamina, thus helping a person to work more without getting tired. The best time to do exercise is early in the morning. Exercise keeps the body healthy and strong. People who exercise daily are less likely to get sick very often.

Eating Properly Avoid Junk Foods

Taking care of what people eat is very important, as the food directly affects the metabolic and digestive system and it is the only source of energy for the body to work properly. Eating proper food with right amount of calories, proteins and vitamins at the right time is very important in keeping mind and body healthy. Vegetables, fruits and meat etc contains all the vitamins, calories and proteins required by a body so eating them at the right time is a good health enhancing behavior. Over eating and under eating both are dangerous, similarly eating more and more junk food can cause diseases. Excess of everything is dangerous and excess of food is very dangerous as it directly affect the stomach.

Eating vegetables, fruits and meat with bread or rice is a healthy nutrition, and it is a key to lead a healthy life. Junk foods and over eating is very dangerous for health so to avoid them as much as possible is a key to lead a healthy life.

Stop Smoking

The worst thing a person can do to his health is smoke cigarettes; in taking smoke into lungs is nothing but stupidity, cigarette’s smoke contain all the pollution and germs required for lungs cancer, so to remain healthy and avoid lungs diseases, it is essential not to smoke cigarettes.

Health is a God’s greatest gift to mankind, but to remain healthy is totally dependent on the person, a person can be very healthy if he/she follows the above stated health enhancing behaviors, whereas failure to follow the proper health enhancing behavior can cause diseases and distress leading to unhealthy life.

If the person is unhealthy, then he will be in stress and tension all the time and will cause trouble to himself/herself and people around. Unhealthy people are the cause of trouble for themselves and others. So rather than a constant pain to others, it is wise to follow these health enhancing behavior in order to lead a healthy life and to help others.

Treatment of Cold Sores – Natural and Medical

The herpes simplex virus is the causative agent of Cold Sores which are unsightly blisters around the lips and mouth.

The herpes simplex virus is typically self limiting and the sores usually resolve naturally within 2 to 3 weeks. However the virus remains within the body and a range of factors can cause reactivation of the virus at any time leading to a new outbreak.

Some of the trigger factors may include, fatigue, stress, physical injury to the lips (like chapping), over exposure to sunlight, pregnancy and problems with the immune system.

The herpes simplex virus is contagious and can be passed from person to person on contact. It has been estimated that up to 80% of the world’s population has been exposed to the cold sore virus. But only a small percentage show physical symptoms and blisters.

Usually Herpes Simplex Type 1 causes cold sores whilst Type 2 is associated with genital herpes.

Prior to a break out of cold sores you may have tingling or pain in the affected area for two or three days and this pain preceding an outbreak is referred to as the prodrome. Treatment at this stage can prove more effective than once the blister has appeared.

To avoid spreading cold sores when they are present, ensure your hands are washed regularly, avoid sharing towels and eating utensils and avoid direct contact with the blister itself.

Over the counter treatments generally include lidocaine (for pain relief) and benzyl alcohol and these treat the symptoms of cold sores and in very severe cases anti-viral treatments may be prescribed by your Doctor.

In addition to over the counter and doctor prescribed treatments there are natural treatments including lysine (ointments and supplements), lemon balm and reishi mushrooms, the astragalus herb and propolis.

Three Quick Remedies to Clear Sinus Pressure Permanently

For all their annoying symptoms and often plain suffering, sinus pressure and other sinus problems are usually treated at their symptoms level, not their causative one. Sinus issues are seldom fatal, but they can bring complications and much discomfort. So, why not treat sinus pressure by going to its possible cause and bring permanent relieve?

Four years ago I became liberated from sinus pressure and other sinus issues. I will share with you what I did that solved my sinus miseries. Not for me only, but for others also who have tried it. It is a unique therapeutic approach that combines three healing systems synergistically–in cooperation with each other–and which addresses both cause and symptom:

Keep sinuses clear

Air and a normal amount of mucus–one to two pints daily–must move through the sinus and nasal cavities constantly to keep them healthy. Consider that the main function of the membrane lining those cavities is to produce mucus to protect our breathing organs, etc. Thus a constant flow of clear, watery mucus is normal and necessary. So this is what we do to keep our sinuses clear:

  • Self-applied sinus acupressure
  • Drink plenty of plain, pure water at room temperature
  • Do nasal rinsing as needed
  • Use desensitization therapy for severe allergic reactions
  • Watch what we eat

Avoid mucus producing foods

Data from empirical–nonscientific experimentation–observations strongly support that some foods, especially three of them, can contribute significantly, if not directly cause, excessive mucus production and the discomforts accompanying it. One of these three foods, one which most of us enjoy the most, is: sugar in significant amounts. What “significant” is, can vary from one individual to another. In plain language, the large amounts of sugar often present in desserts, soft drinks, milk shakes, ice cream, sugary breakfast cereals-to name a few–can be affecting significantly the state of your sinuses and contributing to other health issues—since our bodies were not made to handle large amounts of refined sugar and remain healthy. Each of us will have to decide what we prefer: better health and less pain or a few moments of pleasure at the ice cream parlor.

Keep nerve energy flowing freely

It is common knowledge that our nerve cells conduct small amounts of low voltage electricity–measured in milli-volts–which travels from the brain through the spinal cord. From there this electricity goes to all organs and other parts of the body. It also carries messages back to the brain. Anything that restricts this electric flow would, obviously, affect the well functioning of some organ, membrane, muscle, sinus cavity, physiological process, etc., that depends on it. Since the spinal cord canal runs behind the vertebrae, a misalignment of a specific vertebra, like the atlas or axis, can put pressure on the cord and affect that electric flow. By restoring this electric energy back to full flow the body would, obviously, have a better chance to use its own health restoring mechanism. Not only our sinuses can fare better, but it can improve our general health, too. This was my experience.

It is this third “remedy” about full nerve energy flow restoration that can help bring healing permanency to the sinuses; when coupled with the other two remedies about keeping the sinuses clear and avoiding mucus producing foods.

Las Vegas Drug Scene

Some say that the Las Vegas Drug scene is really bad. Others say that the drug scene is mostly on the Strip and near the nudie bars. This is simply not so, in fact it is all over the town. For instance near the Nellis Air Force Base in North Las Vegas. Yep, you don’t believe me then try out the Wal-Mart parking lot it is unbelievable or near the Military base going toward the Casinos.

Many military personnel say “Drugs are stupid, I do not understand it really, but then again I have never done any so, what would I know.”

Indeed, I relate with what these military folks say, but the drug problem in the US is ramped and it is really ramped in Las Vegas and not just the Strip either. I do know that the FBI considering hiring pot smokers and of course this is proof of the ramped problem in our society. But we must get rid of this Crystal Meth, it is really bad news for people’s bodies and I do not believe I should have to pay the increased health care costs that will plague our civilization in the coming years. Things like heart attacks at age 35 and rotted out kidneys. We just cannot afford this as a nation, health care costs are already causing losses and leading to bankruptcy as GM noted this past week.

One recent visitor to Las Vegas said to our investigative team while looking for a job having recently re-located to the area;

“I don’t think I am in the greatest part of town, but since social service is what I do for a living and dealing with druggies is the part I hate the most about my job, I might rethink what I am going to do next.”

The best parts of Vegas are the areas North West, Centennial, Henderson and Seven Hills Area. But even the middle class kids there, are for the most part from Southern California and many are drug dealers part time and gang members, so the problem is in the entire area, maybe not out in the open, but is still there. We were told the same visitor that;

“There’s a Wal-Mart just a couple of blocks from the Air Force base here. I went in there to walk around and there was some black chick dealing drugs right outside the front door. I strolled around for about an hour and when I came out, there she was still dealing drugs and I walked by right in the middle of an exchange. The security guards were both black and were just totally ignoring what she was doing, so they have to know and are a part of it–or just get a kickback. It was meth that she was selling. “

Indeed this is one place in the area that our investigative team noted was problematic for drug use, so it figures, it is ramped there; so bad that some business people say that you cannot find a; “G-damn person in that town who is worth hiring.” This is what we were told in no uncertain terms from many small and medium size businesses, even a couple human resource directors that told us that; “It is sickening really. We drug test everyone, that sure weeds them out quickly!”

When our interviewee continued the story she said;

“I gave her my best dirty look to let her know that I knew what she was doing. She walked away and the security guard came and sat in his vehicle right by the van while I sat there reading the paper. He didn’t look pleased with ME. I know there is no perfect place, but I didn’t expect to see so much within just a couple of hours of arriving in town.”

We instructed her to call the North Las Vegas Police, they will take care of them, they hang out at the Starbucks across the freeway near the other Wal-Mart, on Craig and Martin Luther King Blvd. At night you will see the entire police department, nice guys, safest place in the whole darn area. We told her to get a digital picture of the lady and that If you don’t do something no one will. This is the problem. You see. Additionally our investigative team also interviewed the drug taskforce group and they told us for everyone you bust there are 5 more ready to take their place the next day.

America, we are falling short on the war in drugs in most of our larger cities and most of our smaller ones. We must work together to get these drugs off our streets, as they are melting the minds and warping the brain of our society. Think on this.

Concierge Medicine In America

As our American population ages and the impact of healthcare reform continues to be felt, navigating the medical landscape is only getting more complex for employers and patients. There will be an even greater need for healthcare advisory services in the coming years as patient choices grow more complex and access to appropriate clinicians becomes increasingly difficult.

Now enter, Concierge Medicine and Direct-Pay healthcare options. Consumer and patient interest is also at an all-time high as more and more prosepective and curious patients are starting to enroll in concierge medicine and direct-pay practices. Baby Boomers and Generation X now represent more than half of the U.S. consumer population utilizing such an old-fashioned delivery model of healthcare in modern America.

A mass-market variant of Concierge Medicine, distinguished by its low prices, Direct Primary Care (DPC) is also quite popular by many Gen Xers and the Boomer population. Due to much smaller patient panels than traditional primary care and insurance-based medical practices, DPC doctors say they spend more time with patients discussing treatments, procedures, prescription use and other healthcare options.

Similar to its older familial medical model, Concierge Medicine, Direct-Pay doctors frequently promote the fact that they can provide “unhurried appointments” and same-day access to a physician. Most Direct-Pay medical clinics and doctors with price points under $100 per person per month are slowly gaining traction in the highly competitive healthcare marketplace in the U.S. Direct-Pay Medicine’s strength has not been in the number of physicians signing up to change their business model but in the low monthly fee they charge their patients.

Initially, Concierge Medicine and Direct-Pay doctors were mostly operating in primary care and family practice. The latest data reported by the concierge medicine industry trade journal in 2014 reports that there are an estimated 12,000 Concierge Medicine and Direct-Pay practices nationwide in 2014. While these figures differ somewhat from analysis touted in the media and quoted by other organizations, their number represents primary care and family physicians plus a wide range of Concierge Medicine and Direct-Pay healthcare specialty practices in the U.S. In 2011, there started to be a growing number that practice in secondary Concierge Medicine specialties including: pediatrics; general surgery; psychiatry; spine surgery; gynecology; dentistry; cardiology; addiction medicine; dermatology; oncology and more. These specialty practices usually offer the same immediate access, longer appointments, and a proactive health focus similar to primary care concierge practices. Some also offer home visits. Specialists usually limit their practices to a smaller number of patients -150-300 compared to the more typical 300-750 patients for primary care. They also tend to have patients who have chronic conditions.

Recent industry changes along with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act bringing a sudden influx of recently insured lower-income patients to the doctor’s offices. Primary care and family medicine doctors are listing their prices in menu-like fashion and offering affordable healthcare services and discounts on laboratory tests and examinations for a fraction of the cost seen in most traditional, insurance-based, managed care medical offices. The trade journal found that approximately two-thirds charge less than $135 a month on average. This figure includes primary care, family medicine, osteopath and various specialty physician practices.
