Types Of  Diabetes .

Type 1  diabetes  is usually diagnosed in children and young adults and only accounts for 5-10% of  diabetes  patients. In type 1  diabetes  the pancreas doesn’t make any insulin (keys) at all.

Type 2  diabetes  is the most common form of the disease. It accounts for 90-95% of all the cases of  diabetes . In type 2  diabetes , either your body doesn’t make enough insulin (keys), or the cells in your body ignore the insulin (the lock is rusty and doesn’t work) so they can’t utilize glucose like they are supposed to. When your cells ignore the insulin, as mentioned above, it is often referred to as insulin resistance.

Other types of  diabetes  which only account for a small number of the cases of  diabetes  include gestational  diabetes , which is a type of  diabetes  that only pregnant women get. If not treated, it can cause problems for mothers and babies and usually disappears when the pregnancy is over. Other types of  diabetes  resulting from specific genetic syndromes, surgery, drugs, malnutrition, infections, and other illnesses may account for 1% to 2% of all cases of  diabetes .

How do you get  diabetes ?

There are risk factors that increase your chance of developing  diabetes . Hyperosmolar hyperglycemic nonketotic syndrome is a serious condition in which the blood sugar level gets very high. The body tries to get rid of the excess blood sugar by eliminating it in the urine. This increases the amount of urine significantly and often leads to dehydration so severe that it can cause seizures, coma, even death. This syndrome typically occurs in people with type 2  diabetes  who are not controlling their blood sugar levels or have become dehydrated or have stress, injury, stroke, or medications like steroids.

My doctor says I have pre-diabetes? What is that?

Pre-diabetes is a common condition related to  diabetes . In people with pre-diabetes, the blood sugar level is higher than normal but not high enough to be considered  diabetes . Pre-diabetes increases your risk of getting type 2  diabetes  and of having heart disease or a stroke. Pre-diabetes can be reversed without insulin or medication by losing a modest amount of weight and increasing your physical activity. This can prevent, or at least delay, onset of type 2  diabetes . When associated with certain other abnormalities, it is also called the metabolic syndrome.

What are normal blood glucose levels? The amount of glucose (sugar) in your blood changes throughout the day and night. Your levels will vary depending upon when, what and how much you have eaten, and whether or not you have exercised. The American  Diabetes  Association categories for normal blood sugar levels are the following, based on how your glucose levels are tested:

A fasting blood glucose test: This test is performed after you have fasted (no food or liquids other than water) for eight hours. A normal fasting blood glucose level is less than 100 mg/dl. A diagnosis of  diabetes  is made if your blood glucose reading is 126 mg/dl or higher. (In 1997, the American  Diabetes  Association lowered the level at which  diabetes  is diagnosed to 126 mg/dl from 140 mg/dl.)

A “random” blood glucose test can be taken at any time. A normal blood glucose range is in the low to mid 100s. A diagnosis of  diabetes  is made if your blood glucose reading is 200 mg/dl or higher and you have symptoms of disease such as fatigue, excessive urination, excessive thirst or unplanned weight loss.

Another test called the oral glucose tolerance test may be performed instead. For this test, you will be asked, after fasting overnight, to drink a sugar-water solution. Your blood glucose levels will then be tested over several hours. In a person without  diabetes , glucose levels rise and then fall quickly after drinking the solution. In a person with  diabetes , blood glucose levels rise higher than normal and do not fall as quickly.

A normal blood glucose reading two hours after drinking the solution is less than 140 mg/dl, and all readings between the start of the test until two hours after the start are less than 200 mg/dl.  Diabetes  is diagnosed if your blood glucose levels are 200 mg/dl or higher.

What else do I need to do if I have  diabetes ?

People with  diabetes  should see a health care provider who will monitor their  diabetes  control and help them learn to manage their  diabetes . In addition, people with  diabetes  may see endocrinologists, who may specialize in  diabetes  care; ophthalmologists for eye examinations; podiatrists for routine foot care; and dietitians and  diabetes  educators who teach the skills needed for daily  diabetes  management.

Strain Or Sprain – What’s the Difference?

As you can imagine some of the most common injuries we treat are strains and  sprains . But what’s the difference between the two? How do you know which is which? Let’s take a look at both types of injuries to make the clear distinction.

The strain

More common than  sprains , these overuse injuries happen when a muscle or tendon (that connects the muscle to the bone) gets stretched too far. For example, when you’re running too fast or trying to jump over something.

This over stretching causes some pain. But after some rest the muscle heals and returns to its original shape.

But not if you go too far

Every time there’s an injury, you actually strain the muscle first. Since it’s the first line of defense. So if you were to roll your ankle the muscle tries to stabilize that movement. But if the muscle isn’t strong enough it tears and moves to the ligament.

If the ligament tears you get a  sprain .

So a strain and  sprain  actually always happen together. Meaning if you  sprain  something you’ve actually strained the muscle or tendon in the area first.

How do you heal a strain?

The first thing is rest and ice. Then you slowly introduce stretching and strengthening. This is where people make a mistake because they try to get to the stretching/strengthening too soon.

You need to rest and allow the pain to go down. You can actually makes things worse by not allowing enough time to rest.

Trampoline owners should avoid any pads using open cell foam. Only closed cell foam prevents water from being absorbed. It is important that the foam does not absorb water, to avoid mildew and weakening the foam.

Another factor to consider when purchasing a safety pad is the type of material the outer cover is manufactured from. Most pads are composed of PVC vinyl, however there are some that are manufactured with polyethylene material. Trampoline owners should avoid purchasing trampoline pads composed of polyethylene material. Though they are usually less expensive than PVC vinyl pads, polyethylene is not a UV resistant fabric causing the pad to quickly deteriorate. PVC is an UV resistant fabric that is designed to withstand UV rays for as long as possible. The thickness of PVC vinyl is determined in terms of ounces. The higher the number of ounces the more durable the vinyl is. For example, 22 ounce vinyl is thicker and more durable than 18 oz vinyl.

The warranty of the safety pad should also be considered when purchasing a pad. Usually a customer can determine how strongly a company feels about the quality of their product based on the product warranty. For a pad an average warranty is 30 – 60 days. If a customer finds a pad with a 1-year warranty, which is usually a sign that the company believes the pad is a very high quality pad. A 1-year warranty on a pad would be considered an extended warranty in the trampoline industry.

Considering all of the factors previously mentioned may seem overwhelming for a simple trampoline safety pad, but just as in any other purchase in life, the more informed you are as a buyer, the likelihood of making the best purchase possible is greatly increased. This is implemented to all individual irrespective to their age, gender, social status and etc. Health is a very important issue for all the individuals. And when it comes to women health, there are lots of questions to be asked.

Every woman experiences the natural phenomena of menopause. Menopause is a natural process in which there is permanent stoppage of the normal menstrual cycle and reproductive functions. Most women experience this stage after 40 years of life but normal age range is between 45-55 years.



It is the permanent ending of the menstrual cycle due to normal changing in the reproductive and hormonal systems of the body. Natural menopause in women described in three stages;

Perimenopause starts several years before menopause due to reduce secretion of female sex hormone from the reproductive organ. The second stage is actual menopause, in which reproductive organ completely stopped the release of female gamete and secretion of female hormone. It is diagnosed when there is no menses for about 12 months. And the last stage is post menopause that are the years after menopause in which signs of menopause go away but there is greatest risk of health problems.


In this there is surgical removal of reproductive organs and the women practice the signs and symptoms of menopause.


When the women taking treatment of cancer that is located near the reproductive organs may also result in the menopause. In this, symptoms of menopause begins during treatment or following treatment.


Most of the symptoms of menopause are due to he deficiency of female sex hormones, these symptoms includes hot flashes, increase pulse rate, depression, anxiety, mood swing, sleep disturbances, bone breaking, joint and back pain, skin wrinkles and thinning.



Osteoporosis is the bone disorder in which there is weakening of bones so high risk of breaking. These broken bones are called as   fractures  and most commonly occur in  hips , wrist and backbone. (6) It normally appears after the menopause in which there is severely reduction in the female sex hormone that is involved in the bone formation.


There is no single cause for osteoporosis but risk factors can play an important role in the breaking of bones. These include;

  • AGING: risk of fracture increasing with age.
  • FAMILY HISTORY OF BONE PROBLEMS: especially if mother had  hip   fracture .
  • LOW CALCIUM INTAKE: since calcium plays an important role in bone formation deficiency of calcium can be overcome by taking supplements.
  • EXCESSIVE INTAKE OF ALCOHOL and CAFFEINE: that is 2 drinks per day and more than 4 cups of coffee, tea and soft drink.
  • EARLY MENOPAUSE: that is before age 40.
  • REDUCED BODY WEIGHT: that is less than 125 pounds.


Normally female do not know that she has osteoporosis until  fracture  occurs but some of the symptoms are backache, a gradual reduction in height accompanied by bent posture and  fractures  of wrists,  hips  and and backbone.


Fractures due to osteoporosis are very painful and take month for improving. In many conditions, pain goes away when healing is completed. If the pain remains after healing it is called as chronic pain and is due the back bone fracture. What ever the causes of this pain but the feelings of disturbance, anger and fear make it more intense.



Heart problems are uncommon in woman before menopause that do not have high blood pressure, diabetes and excessive fats in blood when compare with man.As the menopause occurs the risk of heart problems become similar to men.


It has been proven that deficiency of female sex hormone can enhanced the risk of heart problems. Due to the absence of this hormone, normal balancing of good and bad cholesterol levels and blood flow is disturbed that results in the heart problems in post menopausal women.


Most commonly there are increase chances of chest pain and heart attack due to thickening of vessels walls because of deposition of fats and formation of blood clots as well as narrowing of blood vessels and reduction in the blood flows to heart.


To reduce the symptoms of menopause Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is an effective treatment. Besides this, certain herbs and dietary supplements like alfalfa, soybeans, flaxseed oils and olive oils helpful in improving the symptoms of menopause.

Pancreatic Duct Blockage

To understand pancreatic duct blockage you first have to understand what the organ is and how it works. The pancreas is a small, six to ten inch long spongy organ located in the abdomen behind the stomach that is an important part of the digestive process. It produces some of the enzymes that the body uses to break down foods in order to digest them and also produces insulin to aid in how the bodies glucose or sugar level is regulated.

The insulin that is produced is secreted directly into the bloodstream while the enzymes are released into the small intestines when needed to help digest food. Each performs an important function in how our body digests foods then stores and uses the energy produced.

When we eat, the partially digested foods called chyme are released by the stomach into the beginning of the small intestines. That area of the small intestines is called the   duodenum . It is also in this area that the pancreatic enzymes are added through a duct that can become blocked. This duct runs along the entire length of the pancreas and is connected to a similar duct that comes from the liver, delivering bile to the small intestines.

Pancreatitis is a disease that can be either acute or chronic and is an inflammation of the pancreas. This inflammation is often caused by pancreatic duct blockage that happens when the main duct is blocked resulting in the juices that would normally flow through the pancreas getting blocked up inside the organ. In worst cases these juices can actually start to break down the pancreas.

This main duct can be blocked due to gallstone’s, tumors, defects, surgery, or some other sort of trauma. Once a duct is blocked it usually requires immediate medical attention. Patients generally stop eating solid foods and are given nourishment through intravenous means until the blockage passes and the inflammation eases. In extreme cases surgery may be required to remove the blockage. Once the inflammation eases, or cools, the patient is slowly reintroduced to a liquid diet. If there are no problems the diet is increased to include bland foods, then eventually a normal diet.

Pancreatitis can be caused by the heavy use of alcohol, for heredity reasons, defects in the organ, trauma caused by surgery or accident, tumors, or gallstone’s. There is also a small number of people, around 14% for whom the actual cause is never found.
