Treating Sciatica With Chiropractic

Sciatica is a common complaint for many and refers to the unpleasant sensation which can radiate from the lower back and buttock region, down either the left or the right leg. Severe cases may radiate as far down the leg as the toes. These symptoms develop along the sciatic nerve, which happens to be the largest nerve in the body. It originates from the spinal nerves of L4 through S3, coursing through the pelvis and buttocks and down the length of both legs.

Each sufferer has unique manifestations including pain (mild to excruciating), muscle weakness, numbness, tingling or pins-and-needles the extent of each varies widely, but all share the hallmark pathway along the sciatic nerve. The duration of the symptoms can be acute and last a few days or become a chronic issue. Typically sciatica affects only one lower extremity at a time which a chiropractor can help alleviate.

An irritation of the sciatic nerve triggering a bout of sciatica can be caused by many different anatomical sources:

• A herniated disk (when the center gel of the disk begins seeping out) in the lower back can place pressure on the area beginning a sciatica episode.

• An individual with lumbar spinal stenosis, or a narrowing of either the spinal central canal, or neural foramen, can find stress placed on the sciatic nerve as well.

• There is also a condition called spondylolisthesis known as a displacement of the spinal vertebra in which one slips over another and pinches the nerve.

• Piriformis syndrome is a common scenario where the piriformis muscle is spasming or is hypertonic that results in irritation of the sciatic nerve.

• Rarely one may develop a spinal or sciatic nerve tumor, incur a direct sciatic nerve injury, or have a back trauma resulting in blunt trauma to the nerve.

Chiropractic care is a safe alternative form of treatment to standard therapy, and studies have shown this line of treatment to be very effective in relieving sciatic symptoms.

For the treatment of sciatica, a chiropractor will be able to provide the spinal manipulations to best relieve the problem. Chiropractic care is based on improving the function and spinal mobility this process works synergistically in an effort to decrease the pain from the sciatic nerve irritation, and prevent future incidents. A chiropractor can manage the acute symptoms associated with sciatica, and given preventative or maintenance spinal manipulations to decrease the chance of a future sciatic occurrence.

Not All Toothaches Are a Toothache

You have a toothache, so naturally you go to the dentist. The problem, however, may not be with your tooth. Some patients become impatient when the dentist is evaluating a tooth problem. Though it appears obvious a tooth, that hurts when you touch it, needs to be fixed, a dentist has to consider the possibility that another tooth or problem in the area maybe contributing to the pain. The dentist wants to avoid a scenario where the apparent tooth is treated and the patient returns the next day still in pain. It is best if the patient understands all of the possible explanations for their pain–especially when it seems obvious.

It is difficult for a patient to determine exactly which tooth is causing the pain. But once the patient thinks they have identified the problem tooth, they become convinced they are right and are not easily persuaded otherwise. Several times I’ve seen a patient who insists a lower back tooth is the problem, but after an x-ray and closer examination they agree that it is obviously an upper tooth. In some cases we find it is not even a tooth causing the pain. Recently, a patient insisted two teeth were the source of her pain, one of the teeth had been treated twice. When treatment of the other tooth did not help, I urged her to see a specialist, who also found nothing wrong. She eventually saw a neurologist who determined she had an artery pressing on a nerve in her jaw. Since having surgery, she has been fine. As this case points out pressure on a tooth nerve can result in a toothache and that pressure can come from several sources.

Though rare, many other sources of tooth pain need to be considered, including: sinus problems, grinding habits, angina, ear inflammation, or muscle inflammation. Nerve conditions or disorders, such as Bell’s palsy or trigeminal neuralgia could also be the cause of tooth pain. “Tumors” in the bone and probably some syndromes, illnesses and conditions we have not yet identified are also possible sources of tooth pain. It is very important for you to become involved in the diagnosis of a problem and not assume the treatment will be obvious. Report all symptoms and any problems to your dentist early, and have patience but be persistent if no solutions are evident right away. Your dentist will do everything he or she can to identify the source of your pain and treat it, but sometimes that will mean sending you to see another doctor or specialist.

Sore Throat Remedies For Pregnant Women

Suffering from a sore throat is one of the more common problems that many women encounter during pregnancy. While it may be easy to grab an over the counter solution at any other time, it is best to avoid taking too many medications while pregnant. Fortunately, there are other alternatives to help ease sore throats.

The following are a handful of safe sore throat remedies that pregnant women can use.

1. Gargle with warm salt water at least twice a day. Mix a teaspoon of salt with eight ounces of water and gargle for a few seconds until all eight ounces have been used up. Make sure the water is warm enough, but not too hot that it could burn the tongue. Gargling with salt water actually washes away mucous and dilating capillaries and increases the blood supply to that area, which in turn help antibodies that fight bacteria and infections to circulate better.

2. Drink decaffeinated tea with lemon and some honey. Decaffeinated teas like chamomile, lemon, and peppermint are great for soothing sore throats. Try slicing ginger thinly and putting it in boiling water with some honey and lemon, drink when it is not too hot. If you do not have any ginger or any decaffeinated teas available, just boil water and mix the lemon and honey with it. Keeping your throat hydrated will help get rid of the soreness faster. Avoid drinking cold beverages at this time.

3. Sore throats can be accompanied by stuffy nose. You can use saline nasal sprays to help relieve congestion. Make sure the air is not too dry by using a vaporizer or humidifier. These are perfectly safe to use while pregnant.

4. If swallowing is painful, have warm soup like chicken noodle or just broth. Drink warm or room temperature water along with the soup if you do not want to drink tea with it. You can also drink orange juice for vitamin c

5. Sleeping during pregnancy may already be a problem, having a sore throat makes it worse. Prop your head up so mucous and saliva can be drained properly. Breathe through the nose instead of the mouth. Breathing through the mouth will cause your throat to get dry.

When drinking or gargling warm water, make sure it is not too hot. If the water is too hot, it can burn the tongue and also cause the throat to get more irritated. Hotter is not better. Make it as hot as you are comfortable with. If the sore throat is accompanied with any fever, red spots, white spots, or pus inside the mouth, make sure to contact a professional and get proper help right away. You may be dealing with a virus or bacteria. These sore throat remedies are great for everyone. If you are not pregnant and just want a natural way relieve a sore throat, these will also work for you.

How Bad Breath Develops From Tonsil Stones And What To Do To Stop It

Tonsil stones, also called tonsilloliths, are whitish lumps of calcareous matter that form and accumulate in the little pockets in your tonsils called tonsillar crypts, located in the back of the throat. They are usually small, smell atrocious, and, as years as a researcher and writer of dental care and health related issues have shown me, most people who suffer from them rarely even know what they are called or that they even have them!

Though they’re usually a little hard to notice (and therefore easy to ignore), there are many symptoms associated with these stones such as discomfort in the throat even when not eating or drinking anything, pain when trying to swallow, and frequent occurrences of tonsillitis; but one of the most common and more noticeable ones is persistent (and often strong) bad breath or halitosis, which doesn’t go away easily even after you’ve already made some improvements in your general oral hygiene.

And to understand how recurrent bad breath comes from tonsil stones, we have to first understand how the stones are formed in the first place.

As tonsils aid to trap and combat bacteria and viruses in the mouth, they, unfortunately, also end up gathering tiny food particles, dead cells, mucous and other debris that ought to be none of their business. Tonsilloliths are formed when this mix is acted on by bacteria and hardens and accumulates in the crypts.

It is believed that the anaerobic bacteria that act on the debris cause foul-smelling sulphur compounds to be generated in the throat. As one study from the National Center for Biotechnology Information helped to show: 75% of the participants who measured unusually high amounts of sulphur in their mouths did, in fact, have tonsil stones, leading the researchers to conclude that having tonsil stones can increase the risk of foul breath by up to 10 times!

Needless to say, strong and persistent bad breath can have devastating social repercussions to one suffering from it; and, therefore, as much as tonsil stones are not life-threatening in any way, it’s important to know what you can do to stop your “oral plight” before it has taken too heavy a toll on your social life– if it hasn’t already!

Well, it should be pretty obvious by now: To get rid of your halitosis, you’ll have to get rid of your tonsilloliths. What may not be so obvious, though, is exactly what you can do to deal with the stones so that your plight ends.

There are a couple of options available for you; some will merely give a temporary relief from the problem, and others will provide lasting results.

Some of the more temporary solutions include the use of antibiotics (to help combat bacterial action in the mouth), gargling with a warm saline solution mixed with aroma therapy elements (as salt is a natural antibiotic agent, and the gargling could help to dislodge the stones), and, last but not least, you can manually dislodge the stones using a simple tool like a cotton swab and a mirror for looking down your throat. Because all these do not address the deeper causes, however, the stones will continue to form again and again in the future.

Although tonsillectomy (surgical removal of the tonsils) used to be viewed as the only means for permanently treating tonsil stones in the past, this is not the case today, and is considered a little too extreme. For one thing, there have been recent studies that have linked the frequent formation of tonsil stones with diet. By cutting down on dairy products and other foods with high calcium content, for example, you can greatly minimize and ultimately eliminate their formation.

If you find that you are often plagued by tonsil stones and are in that much dire a need to end the horrible breath they cause, definitely consult your dentist or doctor about having the procedure; but, on the other hand, I’d strongly encourage you to also explore other less-invasive options as there really are great ones today that can permanently put an end to your tonsil stones and the bad breath developing from them.

Vitamin D, or Vitamin D Hormone?

Vitamin D deficiency is common in the United States and worldwide. It is known to be important in bone mineral metabolism but now we have information that it does much more.

Vitamins are generally known to be responsible for a single disease and appropriate supplementation should correct the disease. A hormone goes to distant tissues and makes multiple metabolic improvements. That’s vitamin D’s job.

Your levels of vitamin D should be much higher than previously thought. Certainly much higher than noted on the milk carton or vitamin pills in the local drug store. Here is the story for today.

Eight hundred to a thousand IU is needed in general but as we age we need much more. I like liquid formulations best because as you age D is more difficult to absorb. It is probably best to consume that thousand IU daily for consistency in improving all the things Vitamin D will do for you.

For example hip fracture drops 23% and other non-vertebral fractures drop 26%. We know about retarding bone loss as we age but did you that it works on the muscles as well? Lower extremity strength and improved walking were shown in several studies in older people. The risk of falling is improved 22%. It’s nice to have less muscle pain, walk a little faster and get out of a chair quicker than the other seniors. Arthritis is decreased in severity as well.

Many cancers are also significantly diminished in occurrence by increasing vitamin D. These include cancers of the colon, breast, and prostate. Other metabolic disorders include type 1 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, possibly type 2 diabetes and multiple sclerosis.

Vitamin D is a potent modulator of activated T and B-lymphocytes, the workhorses of the immune system. Animal models show prevention of rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn’s Disease of the bowel. Research has shown marked improvement in psoriasis as well.

If that isn’t enough, it is generally noted that there is a distinct improvement in well being and energy, often in the first week. All these improvements were reported in Endocrine News, a publication of the Endocrine Society in the August/September issue 2005 beginning on page 10.

It’s remarkable what you can do for yourself when you couple reliable information about health into action for your life. It’s not just good it’s thrilling. It’s the way life is supposed to be. 

It’s your time.

Diabetes Home Remedy – How to Cure Diabetes

If you are looking for a  diabetes  home remedy, you are not alone! Almost 200 million people suffer from this disease worldwide and many of them do not have access to insulin medication. Fortunately, natural health research is now showing that you do not have to take  diabetes  insulin the rest of your life. You can actually cure your disease with a  diabetes  home remedy.

In this article, you will learn how to cure  diabetes  with your diet, lifestyle, herbs, and supplementation.

Why Cure  Diabetes  Naturally?

If you are taking insulin for your  diabetes , you do not have to take it the rest of your life. That is if you treat it naturally. Unfortunately, many people try to ignore the disease. If  diabetes  is left untreated, it can lead to cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, blindness and joint problems. In extreme situations, diabetics could lose circulation to the peripheral tissues and amputations may be necessary.

If you haven’t already noticed,  diabetes  is a serious disease. Fortunately, your body is very miraculous and is continually making healthy NEW cells that can eventually accept the insulin (cause of type 2). By the time you finish reading this sentence, your body has made about 60,000 new cells. But are they healthy new cells?

With this in mind, you can use your diet, lifestyle, herbs and supplements to make new healthy cells that are not pre-diabetic! Here is how!

How to Cure  Diabetes ?

Since type 2  diabetes  is a disease that is caused by improper nutrition and poor lifestyle decisions, the  diabetes  will focus on your diet, supplementation and lifestyle changes. Here are some simple, yet effective tips.

1. Begin your treatment by eating more protein which is available in nuts, lean meats, and seafood. Protein is responsible for repairing the cell membrane. This is essential for a cure.

2. You should reduce your sugar intake and your carbohydrate intake. When carbohydrates enter the body, your body converts them into sugar. Your blood sugar should be counted at least 4 times per day.

3. You should be exercising 30 minutes a day, every day. Try to do something you enjoy so you do not get burned out. Besides losing weight (which will help reverse  diabetes ), it will also create healthier cells.

4. Keep your blood sugar more constant and consistent by eating more regularly. Humans are grazing creatures like cattle. Therefore, you should try to eat 6 meals a day that are about the size of your fist.

5. Avoid milk, alcohol and all soft drinks. Your main beverage should be water which you should try to get about 16 ounces every 2 hours.

6. Finally, you should also supplement. For instance, vitamins A, C, E and Selenium have been helpful to reverse  diabetes  in some patients. You should also consider a quality multi-vitamin and amino acid supplement which will aid in rebuilding cells.

Atrophic Rhinitis "The Smelly Nose"

Atrophic rhinitis is a chronic nasal disease characterised by progressive thinning of the nasal mucosa and the underlying bones of turbinates. There is also associated presence of viscid secretion which rapidly dries up forming foul smelling crusts. This fetid odor is also known as ozaena. The nasal cavity is also abnormally patent. The patient is mercifully unaware of the odour emitting from the nose as the sensation of smell is destroyed by the disease.

The Cause:

The cause of this problem still remains obscure. Numerous pathogens have been associated with this condition, the most important of them are:

1. Coccobacillus

2. Bacillus mucosus

3. Coccobacillus foetidus ozaenae

4. Diptheroid bacilli

5. Klebsiella ozaenae.

These organisms despite being isolated from the nose of diseased patients have not categorically been proved as the cause for the same.

Other possible factors which could predispose to this disease are:

1. Chronic sinusitis

2. Excessive surgical destruction of the nasal mucosa and turbiantes

3. Nutritional deficiencies

4. Syphilis.

5. Endocrine imbalances (Disease is known to worsen with pregnancy / menstruation)

6. Heredity (Autosomal dominant pattern of inheritance identified)

7. Autoimmune disease

Features of atrophic rhinitis include:

1. Fetor

2. crusting

3. atrophy.

Age of onset: Usually commences at puberty.

Females are commonly affected than men. Heredity is known to be an important factor as there appears to be increased susceptibility among yellow races, Latin races and American negro races. Poor nutrition could also be a reason.

Recently immunologists have considered atrophic rhinitis to be an autoimmune disorder.

1. Metaplasia of ciliated columnar nasal epithelium into squamous epithelium.

2. There is a decrease in the number and size of compound alveolar glands

3. Dilated capillaries are also seen

Pathologically atrophic rhinitis has been divided into two types:

Type I: Classic feature is the presence of endarteritis and periarteritis of the terminal arterioles. This could be caused by chronic infections. These patients benefit from the vasodilator effects of oestrogen therapy.

Type II: This type features vasodilatation of the capillaries, these patients may worsen with estrogen therapy. The endothelial cells lining the dilated capillaries have been demonstrated to contain more cytoplasm than those of normal capillaries and they also showed a positive reaction for alkaline phosphatase suggesting the presence of active bone resorption. It has also been demonstrated that a majority of patients with atrophic rhinitis belong to type I category.

Once the diagnosis of atrophic rhinitis is made then the etiology should be sought. Atrophic rhinitis can be divided in to two types clinically:

1. Primary atrophic rhinitis – the classic form which is supposed to arise denovo. This diagnosis is made by a process of exclusion. This type of disease is still common in middle east and India. All the known causes of atrophic rhinitis must be excluded before coming to this diagnosis. Causative organisms in these patients have always be Klebsiella ozenae.

2. Secondary atrophic rhinitis: Is the most common form seen in developed countries. The most common causes for this problem could be:

1. Extensive destruction of nasal mucosa and turbinates during nasal surgery

2. Following irradiation

3. Granulomatous infections like leprosy, syphilis, tuberculosis etc

Clinical features:

The presenting symptoms are commonly nasal obstruction and epistaxis.

Anosmia i.e. merciful may be present making the patient unaware of the smell emanating from the nose. These patients may also have pharyngitis sicca. Choking attacks may also be seen due to slippage of detached crusts from the nasopharynx into the oropharynx. These patients also appear to be dejected and depressed psychologically.

Clinical examination of these patients show that their nasal cavities filled with foul smelling greenish, yellow or black crusts, the nasal cavity appear to be enormously roomy. When these crusts are removed bleeding starts to occur.

Why nasal obstruction even in the presence of roomy nasal cavity?

This interesting question must be answered. The nasal cavity is filled with sensory nerve endings close to the nasal valve area. These receptors sense the flow of air through this area thus giving a sense of freeness in the nasal cavity. These nerve endings are destroyed in patients with atrophic rhinitis thus depriving the patient of this sensation. Loss of these sensation the nose feels blocked.

Radiographic findings:

Are more or less the same in both primary and secondary atrophic rhinitis. Plain xrays show lateral bowing of nasal walls, thin or absent turbinates and hypoplastic maxillary sinuses.

CT scan findings:

1. Mucoperiosteal thickening of paranasal sinuses

2. Loss of definition of osteomeatal complex due to resorption of ethmoidal bulla and uncinate process

3. Hypoplastic maxillary sinuses

4. Enlargement of nasal cavity with erosion of the lateral nasal wall

5. Atrophy of inferior and middle turbinates

Nasal douching – The patient must be asked to douche the nose atleast twice a day with a solution prepared with:

Sodium bicarbonate – 28.4 g

Sodium diborate – 28.4 g

Sodium chloride – 56.7 g

mixed in 280 ml of luke warm water.

The crusts may be removed by forceps or suction. 25% glucose in glycerin drops can be applied to the nose thus inhibiting the growth of proteolytic organism.

In patients with histological type I atrophic rhinitis estradiol in arachis oil 10,000 units/ml can be used as nasal drops.

Kemecetine antiozaena solution – Contains chloramphenicol 90mg, oestradiol dipropionate 0.64mg, vitamin D2 900 IU and propylene glycol in 1 ml of saline.

Potassium iodide can be prescribed orally to the patient in an attempt to increase the nasal secretion.

Systemic use of placental extracts have been attempted with varying degrees of success.

Surgical management:

1. Submucous injections of paraffin, and operations aimed at displacing the lateral nasal wall medially. This surgical procedure is known as Lautenslauger’s operation.

2. Recently teflon strips, and autogenous cartilages have been inserted along the floor and lateral nasal wall after elevation of flaps.

3. Wilson’s operation – Submucosal injection of 50% Teflon in glycerin paste.

4. Repeated stellate ganglion blocks have also been employed with some success

5. Young’s operation – This surgery aims at closure of one or both nasal cavities by plastic surgery. Young’s method is to raise folds of skin inside the nostril and suturing these folds together thus closing the nasal cavities. After a period of 6 to 9 months when these flaps are opened up the mucosa of the nasal cavities have found to be healed. This can be verified by postnasal examination before revision surgery is performed. Modifications of this procedure has been suggested (modified Young’s operation) where a 3mm hole is left while closing the flaps in the nasal vestibule. This enables the patient to breath through the nasal cavities. It is better if these surgical procedures are done in a staged manner, while waiting for one nose to heal before attempting on the other side.

Penis Rash Causes: Holiday Gifts to Avoid

The holidays are here and with them come plenty of gifts for many men. Receiving gifts is always nice, but not when those gifts may contribute to an issue – such as, say, unwanted penis rash. (Not that there is such a thing as a WANTED penis rash, of course.) Maintaining good penis health requires conscientious effort, and that can extend to realizing that some gifts may not be good for the health of a guy’s favorite organ.

What are some of the neatly-wrapped items that a man may want to think twice about using? A sample includes the following:

– Free laundry service. On the surface, this can be a dream come true for many bachelors. Who has time to do their own laundry as often as they would like? (Answer: just about nobody.) The thoughtful and generous person who arranges for someone else to do a guy’s laundry – whether as a one-time thing or on a regular basis – really put some thought into the gift and it would be churlish to turn it down.

However – big laundry services often use bargain brand detergents which may contain harsh chemicals and heavy fragrances. They get the job done, definitely – but the residue that they leave on underwear and pants may provoke a penis rash on sensitive manhood skin.

There are several solutions. Ask ahead of time about the cleansers the service uses. See if they have some “sensitive skin” alternatives. Or send out the laundry but leave the underwear out and do it at home.

– Body cologne. Yeah, dudes’ bodies can sometimes carry around a distinct odor – and that goes double for men’s members. But spraying cologne on the manhood not only burns like crazy, it also can cause an allergic reaction. The rash is not worth it, friends. If a girlfriend gifts this, use it elsewhere on the body – but leave the member alone.

– Out-of-the-ordinary sexual lubricants. Now, this is a nice surprise to get in one’s stocking – on the surface. It sure indicates interest from one’s partner. But as with the body cologne, there can be an issue with ingredients that interact negatively with the penis skin. Best advice? Try it out with a masturbation session to see if any irritation occurs. If it does, explain gently to the gift giver that the thought is enormously appreciated but that a simpler lube may be a better bet for future coupling exercises.

– Penis sheaths. Adding sex toys into a couple’s activities is an excellent idea – and a penis sheath may be ideal for many men. However, some men do find that use of an ill-fitting sheath creates an unpleasant rubbing sensation that may cause irritation and a subsequent penis rash. It’s worth trying it out to see how it fits, but long-term use may need to be curtailed.

Thoughtful gifts need to definitely be acknowledged with proper sensitivity, but a guy also needs to take steps to make sure that a penis rash or other issue doesn’t result. Fortunately, when rashes or other minor skin irritations occur, regular use of a first-rate penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil) can help to repair the damage. A good penis health crème maintains the health of the organ while helping to soothe rashes and irritation. If the crème contains a combination of moisturizers – such as Shea butter (a high-end emollient) and vitamin E (a superior hydrator) – it is well-positioned to pamper the penis skin in a positive and healing manner. A crème that also includes a potent antioxidant, such as alpha lipoic acid, will offset any harmful oxidative processes in penis cells, helping to keep the organ in better condition. Man1 Man Oil is an excellent gift for a man to give himself.

Preventing and Treating Pressure Skin Sores

People who are dealing with incontinence are at high risk for developing pressure sores. This is due in large part to the moisture that can be trapped on the skin and make it vulnerable to damage. In addition, many people with incontinence also lack mobility which also increases the risk. Because of this it is important to know what causes pressure sores, how to prevent them, and how to treat them should they happen.

The first step in preventing pressure sores is to know what they look like. Once a caregiver can identify pressure sores (also known as bed sores), he or she can take immediate action to keep them from developing further. There are certain symptoms that indicate a developing skin sore. These symptoms are-

• Discoloration of the skin-The skin of the patient will often look red or even purple colored. This often happen on the back or the legs where the person is in constant contact with a bed or wheelchair.

• A foul smell- The area of the skin where the sore is located can have a foul smell.

• Unusual warmth-The area where the pressure sore is developing or has developed may be warmer than other parts of the skin.

• Swelling- The area on the skin where the pressure sore has developed will look swollen.

• Pain-The area where the pressure sore is will be painful to the touch.

• Discharge- If the sore has broken through the skin there may be a foul smelling discharge.

Now that the characteristics of a pressure sore have been identified it becomes crucial to understand what can be done to prevent them. There are certain steps that can be taken to keep the patient from developing such skin problems. These steps are-

• Wearing the right incontinence product- It is crucial that the patient wear the proper size incontinence underwear. Whether the patient is using an adult diaper or some other kind of incontinence undergarment it should be sized to the person with incontinence. Ill-fitting incontinence undergarments can cause chaffing that can bring on skin sores. In addition, the gender of the incontinent person should be taken into account since there are incontinence products for men and incontinence products for women.

• Keep skin clean and dry- There are a number of different incontinence products that can help to keep the skin of the incontinent person clean and dry. This is especially important for preventing pressure sores from developing. Keep in mind that the skin should be moisturized but never wet.

If a skin sore does develop it is important to seek treatment right away. For some people a pressure sore can become a serious and even life threatening problem. If you see a sore on someone that you are caring for you should contact their doctor right away.

Other steps that you should take include-

• Move the patient periodically- If the person is lacking in mobility make sure that they are turned periodically to relieve pressure on vulnerable points.

• Keep pressure sores clean and dry-Regular treatment of the wounds that develop is crucial.

• Use the right type of dressings-There is certain bandages that prevent dragging and tearing on the wounds.

Psoriasis Vulgaris

Psoriasis vulgaris, also known as plaque psoriasis, is the most common form of psoriasis and accounts for up to 90% of cases.

Psoriasis vulgaris is an immune-mediated disease which means that it results from unusual activity in the immune system. The result is that one’s body begins to accelerate the growth cycle of skin cells to a very high pace, thus causing the characteristic appearance of sloughing, scaly, inflamed patches of silver-white skin.

Areas behind joints such as the knee and elbow are most susceptible to psoriasis vulgaris plaques. However, any region of the body can be affected including the scalp, feet and genitals.

While acute psoriasis may occur as a result of drug interactions, streptococcal infections and other rare situations, the great majority of psoriasis vulgaris sufferers must live with this condition chronically. That is not say that the patient suffers continuously as this condition tends to occur cyclically: flare-ups followed by periods of lull.

Up to ½ of sufferers also experience scalp psoriasis which is characterized by flaking of the skin on the scalp resulting in a dandruff-like appearance.

Another problem associated with this condition is psoriatic arthritis, which is similar to the commonly known osteoarthritis and occurs in up to 40% of psoriasis sufferers.

It is not well-known what causes this disease although there is likely a genetic component. While genetics play a part, environmental influences such as stress, diet, etc., are thought to play a role.

Psoriasis vulgaris is generally diagnosed visually by a physician or dermatologist.

Treatment is decided based upon the severity and degree of spreading of the psoriasis plaques.

Treating this condition generally involves alleviating the symptoms and addressing the health of the patient as a whole. Treating the plaques can be done with topical lotions and creams. Another common approach to treating psoriasis is the use of phototherapy (light therapy). This treatment approach can be very effective but it also carries several risks including the possibility of scarring, blistering, irritation and increased risk for skin cancer.

For very severe cases, systemic (pills and injections) treatments may be prescribed. These include very potent drugs that mitigate psoriasis vulgaris symptoms admirably but also carry considerable risks of strong side effects such as birth defects and liver and kidney damage.

Perhaps the most empowering treatment for psoriasis vulgaris is taking great care of one’s health by eating an intelligent psoriasis diet, supplementing with adaptogens and exercising regularly, while maintaining a low-stress lifestyle.

Allergy Treatment

Millions of Americans suffer from allergies. Many people are afflicted with some type of allergy to all sorts of things, such as environmental allergens, odors, fumes, food, and cigarette smoke are few of the factors. Allergies despite not being diseases can severely affect your health for weeks. Allergy is widespread and affects approximately one in four of the population in the UK at some time in their lives. According to a study each year the numbers are increasing approximately by 5% with as many as half of all those affected being children.

Allergy is basically a Greek term which means “other work”. The term allergy is used to describe a response, by the body, to a substance, which is not necessarily harmful itself, but results immune responses and reactions that causes symptoms and disease in a predisposed person, causing inconvenience, or a great deal of misery. It occurs when the body’s immune system overreacts to normally harmless substances. It is a popular form of immune reaction which creates the process of irritating the body through means of itching. Allergy is a common disorder which is virtually affecting more than 50% of the total world population in one way or the other. By allergy the immune system reacts against a substance that it is not supposed to react against, and the reaction is often exaggerated. Allergy often leads to the formation of certain chronic diseases. Allergy may be caused due to weather, dust, food, pollution, animals, flowers, plants etc and the list is quite unending. Objects containing substances that commonly cause allergy are domestic dust, animal hair, household chemicals, chlorine, microorganisms, pollen, nuts, citrus fruits and seafood. Also bacteria and parasites can cause inappropriately strong immune reactions.

Allergic reactions are caused by substances in the environment known as allergens. Almost anything can be an allergen for someone. Allergens contain protein, which is a constituent of the food we eat. In fact it is an organic compound, containing nitrogen, oxygen and hydrogen, which form an important part of living organism.

Allergy varies according to the compound that causes the immunological reaction. An allergic condition also often implies reaction against a combination of several substances. An allergic condition may periodically get better or worse according to the concentration of the allergen in the environment. A typical example is pollen allergy with peaks in the pollination season of grass or trees.

An allergic person will often get symptoms from several tissues in the body, but the symptoms are often most prominent at one body part and give very specific symptoms at that site. Broadly speaking, there are only three types of allergies, which affect us commonly. These include:

Food Allergies

Allergies to food can be mild, like a little tingling in the mouth, but for some people they may be severe, for example causing difficulty in breathing. Food allergies happen when a person’s immune system mistakenly diagnoses that something the person is eating is harmful for the body. The most common foods that cause allergies are wheat, soy, peanuts, milk, eggs, tree nuts, fish and shellfish. Symptoms of food allergies include swelling in the throat or other parts of the body, abdominal pain, eczema, dizziness, diarrhea or vomiting.

Contact allergies

This type of allergy is due to contact with chemicals and fumes, insect bites, allergic contact eczema, leather etc. Symptoms of contact allergy include redness, itchy, deep blisters, scaly patches and weepy skin.

Inhalant allergies

Inhalant allergy, also known as atopy is caused by allergic reactions to substances in the environment including pets, dust mites, outdoor air pollutants like pollens are the chief allergens. Formaldehydes, molds, occupational allergies etc fall under this category. Symptoms of inhalant allergy include inflammation, sputum secretion and contraction of respiratory system resulting insufficient breath.

Prevention works better than cure in respect of allergy. But when allergy becomes very acute, proper treatment should be meted out to overcome it. Allergy needs proper treatment and medical diagnosis. But most importantly, allergy which is caused due to dust and pollution can be treated by way of avoiding them. It is basically recommended to stay far away from those things which produce allergies

Before providing the basic treatment to the allergy patient, the root causes of allergy should be diagnosed correctly. For this purpose, a proper skin test and blood test should be conducted. Through this process the basic cause of allergy can be sorted out and on the basis of it the right treatment allergy could be processed. There are a lot of therapies which has been in practice for overcoming of allergy. Certain alternative medicines like herbal medication, ayurvedic medication, homeopathy and chinese medicines are helpful in treatment of various types of allergies. Besides these, there are also certain aromatic processes which also work wonders in the process of overcoming allergies.

Bipolar Syndrome and Irritability

Most of the time, even at my manic highs I can be pretty mellow. It takes a lot to get on my nerves and I have the patience to take on the world. These days not so much. Even my husband has notice it. I’m sure the children and dogs have noticed and if the laptop gets thrown out the window I am sure the whole world will know it.

Even little things are setting me on edge these days. Simply misspelling a word as I type this is driving my aggravation levels up.

What do I do to keep a level head when that irritability bug bites me in the backside?

First, I remind myself to breathe. The spelling mistakes don’t matter, that’s what spell check is for. Does it really matter my son wants to fall asleep with the light on, of course not as long as it alleviates that nighttime bedtime battle. Breathe in, breathe out, breathe in, breathe out.

Scream. Cry. Get it out.

Which brings me to the next thing. Get that negative energy out. A quick run. Screaming full force into a pillow. Crying till you have no tears left to cry. Whatever it takes to get it out. Just do it.

Stop aiming for perfection, it’s just gonna piss you off. So what the floor still has dirt on it. So what the table isn’t as clean as it should be. So what. Perfection is a pain in the ass when your irritable. Save it for days when your patience can handle it.

Find an outlet. Frustration and irritability will build if you don’t get it out. Take up something anything that gets you away from the normal grind of things that are grinding on your nerves.

Ask for help. We aren’t perfect when we are in manic episodes, we aren’t perfect when suffering from bipolar syndrome. Heck no one is perfect and no one can do it all alone so give yourself permission to ask for help when you need it most. You’ll thank yourself later as will those around you whose heads you won’t bite off as a result. Asking for help takes more strength then floundering around. Give yourself permission to be strong and reach out for that extended help.

Give yourself a break. Being manic can be a total bitch. Being manic can be wonderful and wondrous, but it can also be unbearable. Realize your limits and be alright with and understanding of them. You cannot do it all.

Irritability sucks. Big time. Not only for those of us irritated at everything around us, but for those that love us and care about us. Try to reduce your irritability whenever you feel it creeping in for the sake of yourself and those who live with and deal with us daily.

Depression and Suicide

One cannot completely cure  depression  without knowing how to cure craziness because several times,  depression  is the initial step of craziness or a consequence of craziness.

I use the term craziness all the time, instead of saying neurosis, hysteria, psychosis and schizophrenia, because craziness is only one process.

We have divided it into several stages and assigned a name to each stage, but the process is exactly the same with the difference that it gives to the patient based on different characteristics as the human conscience is gradually destructed by the anti-conscience, the wild and evil part of the human conscience.

Depression  is the comprehension of terror, and how horrible it is for a human being to be unable to correct what is bad and wrong because everything is wrong and nothing depends solely on that person’s actions.

Depression  is the realization that a person has not developed all their psychological functions and consequently have made several mistakes in their lives, in accordance with the psychological function that was developed the most in their psychic sphere.

Depression  is the deep sadness due to the loss of someone or everything, a feeling that cannot be ever assuaged, unless the patient acquires wisdom, because a wise person can comprehend many things that common human beings cannot understand.

It is a healthy feeling, which is a sensitive answer to combat suffering, horror, pain, failure and treason. The human being can only feel depressed while facing so many horrors in life. If one is indifferent to all these horrors because one closes one’s eyes in front of them, one is cruel and absurd.

However, if  depression  persists and becomes chronic, it is a serious disease that has to be combated through resistance, in the same way we fight craziness, because when  depression  becomes a serious disease, it is transformed into craziness. The initial healthy feeling becomes an organ of the anti-conscience, which uses it to maintain the patient in a sick condition and control the patient’s behaviour this way.

One of the most shocking examples of how  depression  is transformed into craziness is the terrible manifestation of abuses against the person’s body, as we observe in the teens of our time. Their  depression  has become an organ of the anti-conscience. This is the explanation for their strange behaviour. They are depressed and cannot find relief, so they hurt their own body and spill their own blood and they cannot stop doing that. This is the crazy behaviour of masochists.

The free online dictionary defines this disease as: mas·och·ism

1. The deriving of sexual gratification, or the tendency to derive sexual gratification, from being physically or emotionally abused.

2. The deriving of pleasure, or the tendency to derive pleasure, from being humiliated or mistreated, either by another or by oneself.

3. A willingness or tendency to subject oneself to unpleasant or trying experiences.

The pleasure one feels when abusing one’s own body is a distortion of the meaning of pleasure. One should feel pleasure only with good things. However, despair makes one feel pleasure in pain, which could be interpreted as a defence. This is a sad distortion that seems to be the result of the person’s desperate attempt to have pleasure in their lives no matter how, but it is in fact the result of the distortion provoked by the anti-conscience in the human conscience. The anti-conscience makes the patient feel pleasure by abusing their own body.

This is how  depression  is transformed into craziness, which leads depressed people to commit suicide. Self-abuse is already a form of self-destruction or suicide, even though many of the teens that abuse their bodies don’t consider themselves as people that have suicidal tendencies.

This is why we can prevent  depression , neurosis, hysteria, psychosis, schizophrenia and suicide through craziness prevention.

We must prevent the human conscience’s destruction by the wild anti-conscience through psychotherapy using dream interpretation in all these cases. We can cure these cases through resistance, with the guidance of the unconscious that produces the dreams. The unconscious gives us accurate directions and we have to follow them precisely in order to fight against the wild monster without completely losing our human conscience.

How To Overcome Dental Phobia

A trip to the dentist is some people’s worst nightmare. It doesn’t matter whether you’re young or old; an impending dentist’s appointment can mean sleepless nights, sweaty palms and in some instances, anxiety attack. If you feel this way every time you’re due for a teeth cleaning or a filling, then you may be suffering from dental  phobia .

Dental  phobia  is an irrational fear that results in the avoidance of dental treatments. The  phobia  can be the result of a bad experience, but for some just the thought of dental procedures is equated with pain in their minds, making them run away from the dentist’s office.

You cannot avoid your friendly neighborhood dentist forever. Whether you want to, or not, you will have to set a dentist’s appointment otherwise you will suffer from bad breath, gingivitis, and tooth decay. Before you reach the point of no return, it is important to have your mind and body conditioned so you can face your fear head-on.

Dental  phobia  is often the result of listening to bad information. It is important to have a long, quiet talk with your dentist regarding any procedures that you need. Ask about the specifics of the procedure. For example, you can ask if there is any pain associated with the procedure as the thought of pain can aggravate dental  phobia .

One thing you can try to alleviate your fear is hypnosis. Find a licensed professional who can conduct hypnosis therapy with you. Hypnosis can help you get rid of your irrational fear of dentist. It can help you re-evaluate some of your sub-conscious issues that result in your extreme fear of the dentist. Hypnosis provides excellent results and you will find that your dental  phobia  disappears.

NLP can also help in reducing your fear of the dentist. NLP, or Neuro-Linguistic Programming, is the practice of creating your own reality. NLP basically re-programs the “constructs” that you produced that did not work out. In this case, NLP re-creates the reality you have generated that dentists are professionals that you need to be afraid of. An example of an effective NLP intervention is what they call Energy Psychology. Its principle is more or less related to the Chinese traditional cure of Acupuncture. This intervention is proven to cure dentist  phobia .

Try looking for another dentist. It can be possible that you just don’t connect with your current one which is causing you of your deep-seated dentist  phobia . Or look for a dentist who practices using twilight sleep anesthesia. You will be put into a light sleep-like state so you won’t even know the dentist is working on your mouth. There are also dentists who can combine therapy and dental procedures.

It is important that you look for a dentist that can understand your fears and reservations. Defeating your dentist  phobia  will ensure that you are able to stop avoiding the dentist and have a healthy, happy smile.
