Bad Things About Computers

The kids nowadays cannot imagine their home without a television set, a computer, a phone, being influenced a lot by mass-media, which often gives them a wrong perspective of the world they live in. After several studies on the impact of the computer on kids, psychologists and paediatricians have reached the conclusion that computers can be dangerous if they are used in an uncontrolled manner. Thus, the kids who spend more than five hours in front of the computer are exposed to obesity.

An uncomfortable position in front of the typing board which is sustained for hours can affect the child’s position and the monitor can hurt their sight. Spending their time in front of the computer means that they don’t learn to share their things, to wait for their turn and that they don’t get to learn some basic things, such as manners. Kids needs to interact with other kids and adults. They need to experience things themselves, not by using a computer.

Some of the boys identify the user of the computer with tough, sadistic ad rebel characters. A child is addicted to the computer if they are tired all the time, if they sleep very little, if they have problems in school and so on. They don’t learn anything, they don’t do their homework, they don’t have other hobbies, they isolate themselves from their friends, they are frustrated and rebellious, especially because their parents don’t understand the problem and don’t see the attractive and fascinating part about using the computer. That is why parents should make a balanced schedule for their kids and explain them why it is very dangerous for them to spend hours in their chair, with their eyes stuck on the monitor.

They should think of when their children are allowed to use the computer and to check them from time to time, mentioning the consequences of their disobedience, but also the rewards for their obedience.

Unusual Penis Rash From Erythema

A rash can occur anywhere on the body. While people find rashes on the arms or face very regrettable, a guy is especially annoyed when he develops a penis rash. Sure, the rash is not seen by as many individuals (unless he's attending a nudist convention, of course), but the people likely to see it are probably those he really wants to impress. And since a penal rash can sometimes mean that there is a penal health issue present that may preclude sexual gratification, preventing or treating a penis rash is usually of keen importance. For that reason, it pays to know about many different potential causes of penal rash, including one known as erythema multiforme.

Erythema multiforme

Erythema multiforme is classified as a hypersensitivity disorder that presents as eruptions on the skin. These eruptions tend to be red welts, which may be purplish in the center, in some cases giving it the appearance of a "target." They may also form blisters, and ridges around the edges are not uncommon. Itching usually companies the welts; some patients also report experiencing a burning sensation.

The welts can appear anywhere on the body, including the penal and surrounding areas. Typically they appear suddenly and without notice, often in large groups. Some versions disappear in a few days; almost all disappear within two to three weeks. It is not unusual for a person to have two or three outbreaks within a year or so.

Erythema multiforme is considered a milder form of another disorder, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome. Men are more likely than women to contract it, and although it can appear at any age, it is more likely to occur in childhood and young adulthood.

So why does a person get erythema multiforme? Doctors wish they knew. The exact cause of this condition is not known. However, it often occurs in conjunction with or shortly after an infection, and is also associated with an outbreak of herpes simplex virus. There are also some medications that seem to foresee erythema in some individuals, including some antibiotics, anticonvulsants and NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

Erythema multiforme tends to be self-healing, meaning that it will go away on its own if left alone. But a guy with a penal rash, especially an itchy or burning one, may not want to wait for a couple of weeks to get some relief.

Finding the trigger is usually the first step. If it sees to be in reaction to a medication the man is taking, he and his doctor should determine an alternative that can be used. Often, using antihistamines can help to tie itching and burning. If the welts are oozing or over-sensitive, applying a moist compress to them can be helpful. If a determination is made that the erythema is actually a more severe form, such as Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, further treatment may be called for.

It also helps to limit physical irritation of the penis rash. Weaving loose boxers rather than tight briefs may be useful. When possible, wearing no clothes may also further limit irritation and speed recovery.

Erythema multiforme can create a nasty penis rash, but it's not the only cause of penal skin issues. Strengthening the penis skin by regularly utilizing a top flight penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help prevent other rash situations. Take care when selecting a crème and definitely choose one that features both a high-end emollient (such as Shea butter) and a natural hydrator (such as vitamin E) to provide ample moisturization opportunities. The best crème will also include a powerful antioxidant, ideally alpha lipoic acid. This antioxidant helps fight excess free radicals and theby limits damage due to unwanted oxidative stress.

All About Psoriasis

You can try to know all about Psoriasis easily. Psoriasis is a medical condition with abundant information on its causes but no cure. Although Psoriasis is one of the oldest known diseases it is highly misinterpreted. Researchers have found the reference of psoriasis in the Bible as a condition of the skin called "tzaraat". Recent times have also seen psoriasis being referred to as a type of leprosy. "Lepra" is a Greek word suggesting "dry and flaky skin" and "Psora" suggests "scratchy skin".

During the latter part of the 18th century, English dermatologists Thomas Bateman and Robert Willian made a distinction between psoriasis and other dermal diseases. According to them leprosy caused regular circular patches in the body whereas psoriasis patches were not regular. Robert Willain gave a further classification to psoriasis ie psora leprosa and leprosa graecorum.

In spite of various studies carried out to distinguish leprosy from psoriasis, it was only in 1841 that Ferdinand von Hebra, a Viennese dermatologist, wave psoriasis its name. He took the name from the Greek word "Psora" that means "to scratch". Later during the 20th century, psoriasis was further reclassified into the different types of psoriasis.

Historical references of psoriasis cases mention erroneous treatments used for curing psoriasis that were highly toxic and flawed. Although there was no official legitimizing of these treatments, they gained in popularity. One of the ancient techniques used in Egypt was to apply cat feces on the swollen red laceration on the skin. Obscure treatments including goose oil and semen, onions, ocean, sea salt, wasp dropping mixed with sycamore milk, soup made of vipers were also very popular during ancient times.

The 18th and 19th century saw the use of the Fowler's solution. This solution had a venomous and virulent compound and was used primarily by dermatologists to cure psoriasis. Middle of the 20th century saw the use of Genz Rays also known as Bucky Rays or ultrasoft rays to cure psoriasis.

Later ultraviolet rays replaced these for curing psoriasis. About 40 years ago, Undecylenic acid was also used for treating psoriasis. The Victorian and Edwardian era saw the rising popularity of usage of Sulfur to treat psoriasis which has again become popular today as it is comparatively safer than coal tar and steroids.

Some of these extreme treatments for psoriasis were believed to have serious side effects such as liver diseases and lymphoma. Such treatments although are not recommended today, and there are many safe medical and home treatments for the psoriasis sufferer to choose from.

It is worth recognizing that it is however extremely difficult to predict the amount to which the disease will spread in the individual's body. It may remain localized through the person's life or may spread through the entire body. Every patient is likely to experience irregular increases and decreases in the amount of psoriasis during their lifetime. It is worth educating yourself to know all about psoriasis so you can determine what course of treatment you want to take.

Cat Allergy Solution – How to Avoid Or Decrease Your Allergic Reaction to a Household Cat

There is a cat allergy solution that may enable you to keep your cat without suffering an allergic reaction, or significantly reduce an allergen reaction. Most people that are allergic to their feline pet have mild reactions such as runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. These are not serious reactions and in most cases they can be substantially eased or eliminated with a few precautions for allergen control in the house.

You must first understand that an allergy to cats is caused by airborne allergens. While most people believe cat hair is "the" allergen, it is now known that dander (which is dead skin flakes) and cat saliva on the hair are the real culprits. These two allergens can be controlled with some dedication and planning.

For starters, there are three things you can start doing now that will go a long way to getting dander and saliva allergens under control in your house or apartment. These three suggestions are the most important in any cat allergy solution.

1. Give your cat a bath regularly. Yes, they dislike the dreaded bath, but it is good for the them and good for you. With bathing, you remove dander and wash away saliva from their hair. Use a temperature water temperature and a shampoo. Afterwards, reward your cat with a treat and some praise for being so cooperative (just joking). Cats hate baths, but a treat and praise afterwards gives positive reinforcement and does not make the experience negative.

2. Many pet owners allow their cat to nap on their own bed during the day and will even sleep with their pet in their bedroom, or worse yet, with the cat on their bed. If you are allergic to cats, this is not a good idea.

It is far better to ban the cat permanently from your bedroom. It may be hard to do, but for your own sake it is a basic necessity. For you to be so directly exposed to dander and saliva allergens constantly for maybe eight-hours while sleeping just does not make good sense. So expel your feline pet and leave the bedroom door closed all the time.

3. Dander and hair drop off your cat permanently. It is in the air and dander will cling to everything. Hair gets into the rug and upholstery. All of this should be removed by vacuuming, often.

While any type of vacuum will do, it is far better to use a good quality HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) vacuum cleaner. These vacuums have a filter that will collect dander very effectively.

I should mention that if you are the person with the allergy, it is always best to have someone else vacuum for you, preferably when you are not at home or in the apartment. However, assuming you do not have a severe allergy, it is better for you to do the vacuuming than for it not to be done.

These are starter suggestions that can be a cat allergy solution for you. Many people will find this is all they need to do to reduce their exposure to the allergens. Of course, there are other things you could do, but that's beyond the scope of this article. Rest assured, with care, most people can live with a cat even with a mild allergy.

How to Cure Postpartum Depression Easily

Around 80 percent of new moms will suffer from the baby blues. Sometimes, this occurs for a week as the hormones change and the body gets used to them but there are times when this turns into postpartum depression and becomes a serious problem.

Most women will not want to admit about being depressed and will feel like this is just another form of proof that they are unable to look after their new baby. It leads to a downward spiral as the mother focuses more on the negative points rather than what she can do for the baby. She'll start to spend more time away from the infant and fail to appreciate the amazing beauty that has been produced.

There is a lot of danger for the baby and the mother when postpartum depression is not cared for but there are a few treatment options to fall back on if needed. According to the CDC, around 20 percent of new moms are affected with this type of depression and will need help dealing with it.

The first option that many doctors fall back on is antidepressants. These are a class of drugs, which have been proven to be affective. There is now a move away from the use of antidepressants as more people prefer to opt for natural methods.

Psychotherapy is now a common option. This includes treatments such as EFT, which is Emotional Freedom Technique, or CBT, which is cognitive behavior therapy. Both have been proven to be helpful since they offer a way to distract from or stop stop about negative parts of the life and focus on the good parts; they also offer the chance for the mother to talk about her fears and anxieties, while helping her to learn more about her condition.

The support from a family is extremely important. This is not just from the partner but also from other relatives and friends. The new mom will need some rest and take some time for herself and it's helpful to have friends to help her with that. Just folding laundry or doing the washing up can give the new mom a chance to rest for 10 minutes and feel more rejuvenated.

A healthy eating plan can also help with easing postpartum depression. The benefit of eating healthily is that the baby weight will drop quicker and the body will feel more energized. This can help the new mom both mentally and physically. Exercise can also help to relieve some of the stress of being a new parent.

If none of these work and the antidepressants have been tried, there are stronger medications available for the new mom to take. These antipsychotic drugs are only used in rare cases when the postpartum depression has become a serious condition, resulting in delusions or harmful thoughts that put the mother and baby at serious risk.

Scared Dog – How To Cure Noise Phobias

Dogs are scared of loud sounds. You may not noticed that your dog's behavior changes whenever there are sudden loud sounds. Your dog may act unusual or even scared and from this you can tell he has a noise phobia.

Environmental noise phobia is the term that a lot of dog owners as well as veterinarians use to describe the behavioral responses that dogs exhibit whenever they hear loud sounds. To confirm that your dog is indeed scared, your dog's behavior may include excessive barking, whimpering, digging, uncontrolled urinating or defecating, and even aggressive behavior when there is a flurry of loud sounds.

If you are wondering how your dog's fear of loud sounds may affect you and your dog's lifestyle, do not worry because there are things you can do to cure your dog's noise phobia. The following will be a discussion of some of the common things that most dog owners do in order to resolve their dog's fear of loud sounds.

One thing you can do is get your dog used to loud noises so that ever your dog will not be affected by environmental noises. You do this by downloading an audio recording of loud sounds such as thunderstorms, gun shots, fireworks, sirens, and the likes at a very low volume. You may have a hard time listening the loud sounds but your dog will not. This is because dogs have very sensitive ears so do not worry if the sound is barely audible to you. After one or two days, increase the volume of audio recording by a notch and let it stay at that volume for the next two to three days after which you can again increase by another notch. It is important to do this slowly and gradually so as not to surprise your dog which might lead both of you back to square one. Remember to have a lot of patience with your dog whenever you attempt to cure his noise phobia. This takes time and every dog shows different responses to training so do not become frustrated or give up on your four legged friend.

Another method to use is to let your dog be reminded of positive experiences every time he hears loud sounds. When there is thunderstorm, fireworks, etc., give your dog a yummy treat or his favorite chew toy when he is calm or indifferent to the loud noises. Be sure that you refuse from giving positive rewards if your dog is fearful during the loud events. Otherwise your dog may associate his scared behavior with positive attention and will think that his scared behavior is being rewarded and encouraged.

Lastly, give your dog their own space that is all their own. This can be a selected area or a crate that can become its "den". Your dog can retreat to his safe comfort zone when he is afraid and this will help to calm and lessen his fears.

Anxiety in Your Life

I'm sure at one point or another you yourself, or someone you love or know will be affected by anxiety or depression in their life. This is so very common in life today, it would seem to me that most of my family and or friends have experiences of this in their lives today.

We all deal with the emotions that come with having anxiety and depression differently, in my opinion based on how we were taught to cope with stress growing up, earlier in life. Some people were not given the parental advice or tools to mentally meet or deal with pressures in their lives earlier on and therefore, they tend to be more prone to symptoms that could often lead to depression later in life. This has been one of my loved ones experiences.

For myself personally though, I've been able to cope with large amounts of stress and anxiety it seems often in my short life of 36 years. But, I've always clawed myself out of that sinking feeling of hopelessness by trying to find the best of the worst situations. I have also found that reading and listening to music help switch my anxiety levels to a more manageable level.

This approach is not for everyone I know, but for me it has worked. Meditating or doing Yoga, or Pilates or simply taking a walk around the block have also aided my anxiety levels over the years.

Some of us often lose focus on the more important things about life. We let work and money get in the road of family time and quality experiences with our loved ones. How often have you said that you're too busy to sit and read with your kids, or just could not get away from work to spend some time taking that walk during lunch? When are we going to start putting our personal health and fitness above earning an income?

No, I do not suppose it is as easy as that!

However, it's a lifestyle change that you need to do when you are late to suffering from pouts of anxiety. Do not let that black cloud overwhelm you and your actions in life. Get out in the world, look up at the sky, appreciate nature and the outdoors. Be grateful for the freedom you enjoy and reach out to help others. This could all help you feel a sense of accomplishment.

For those of you that suffer from debilitating anxiety, my suggestion would be to always seek professional guidance, do not be afraid to ask for help. My husband often suffers from anxiety, it is like a cycle for him, and sometimes simply speaking to a third person has made the world of difference to him and how he feels about life in general and himself.

Go on give life a try.

Panic And Symptoms Of Anxiety Because Of Your Sleeping Position?

Many people know me as 'The Anxiety Guy' but I have to admit this new connection between sleeping on your stomach, and heightened symptoms of anxiety such as lightheadedness and fatigue was something I had to look further into. For me at least during my battle with anxiety a few years ago, it made total sense, how could I not have seen the connection?

Dizziness Due To Shallow Breathing

When your stomach pushes on your lungs it becomes harder to breathe. When it becomes harder to breath and the symptoms of anxiety such as dizziness kicks in, it's a sign that your breathing has become shallow whether you're conscious of it or not. Strangely I get at least 10 emails per day asking me 'why do I wake up in panic?'

This Could Be The Reason

When you wake up in the morning and you're a stomach sleeper, there's a good chance that you've been breathing so shallow for so long during the night that your dizziness is already there in the am. The next step in the panic cycle in the morning is when you REALIZE that it's there, and your natural reaction, which is to fight turns on.

At This Point The Morning Panic Cycle Is Now On Course

It's important that you experiment with this new idea, for a week do your best to sleep on your back. Not only is this much better for your spine and neck, you may feel like your breathing (although still slightly faster and shallow during sleep) is less restricted. This could be a massive relief for you the panic and anxiety sufferer, especially if your symptoms of anxiety are more present in the am.

Even if your anxiety is not at its worst during the early hours of the day, you should always do your best to practice good breathing through the day. Make sure you exhale all the air out when breathing, because it's in the exhale that is the most important part to combat anxiety. Steady work on your 4 seconds in, pause, and 6 seconds out breathing rhythm whenever you get the chance.

Remind yourself that when morning panic strikes and you begin getting the thoughts' of 'what if' (worst case scenario), this is only happening because your body has switched on its fight or flight response. This is simply firing up your nervous system, and increasing your respiratory rate. The worst will not happen. So tonight when you lay your head to sleep, turn over and begin sleeping on your back instead. Your mind and your body will thank you very much for this new habit.

Always Remember: Life Begins At The End Of Your Comfort Zone.

Is My Sprained Ankle Serious? Five Ways to Know When a Sprained Ankle Is A Serious Injury

Many people suffer from a sprained ankle at one point or another in life. It is very easy to sprain an ankle just jumping, twisting or running around. If you are out walking and the ground is uneven you can sprain your ankle stepping into a decline or hole. Of course many athletes are vulnerable to sprained ankles too with all of the twisting and running, pounding and jumping involved in a lot of athletic activities.

Sprains often happen when you are moving quickly, changing direction, and pushing your foot so that your ankle turns out or in when your foot spins in the opposite direction. When you sprain an ankle, you strain the ligaments in your ankle. There is also a chance that you have torn your ankle ligaments or even broken a bone in your ankle meaning more serious damage.

Generally following a sprained ankle, it is advised to ice the injury to reduce the swapping and treat the pain. Sometimes people take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs to minimize swelling and alleviate pain. Bandaging the injured ankle may help cut down on swelling as well. In addition, healing may also be facilitated along with reduced swelling by spending periods of the day sitting down with your ankle raised higher than your heart level.

Since all sprained ankles tend to be painful, sometimes it is hard to tell immediately after you sprain an ankle the severity of the damage. While minor sprained ankles can often be treated at home with the proper protocol and rest, more intense ankle sprains may require medical attention. Ultimately it is possible that you'll need to seek out guidance from a medical professional for diagnosis and treatment.

If you have experienced a sprained ankle and are wondering what signs you can look for to determine how serious the injury injury is, here are five symptoms that may signal a more severe ankle strain or fracture which requires immediate medical attention from a medical professional like a board certified orthopedic surgeon .

1. Extreme problems putting any weight down on the ankle

2. Intense and pounding pain that does not go away or subside over time

3. Any type of numbness in your ankle, foot and / or toes

4. Visible bones or visibly deformed ankle bones

5. Immobility in your feet, toes or your ankle

While it is always advisable to seek out the help of a medical professional if you have an injury that is painful and that you are concerned about, if you are experienced any of the above symptoms following an ankle sprain it might be something more serious and you should seek medical guidance.

If you need treatment for a sprained ankle, a doctor specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics would be able to help provide you with a diagnosis and treatment recommendations so that you are back to activity as soon as possible following an ankle sprain.

Bruises are very common, and if you are human, you've suffered a bruise in your life. Getting rid of bruises is very easy. When I was a kid I would get bruises on my legs and arms all the time but I did not care about it, I was a kid and did not care about anything. When I got older and got a breeze I needed to apply some treatment on it cause they look bad. When I first know a brewe is coming I make sure the area is clean, ice it down with a bag of ice, and drink juices during the day. I rub the breeze softly and it helps it so it does not look as bad as it could. I use a ice pack first then a heat pack after that.

Remember a bruise will look much worse before looks better, once its dark purple or black then it typically will start to look better shortly after. Another effective method is using a breeze remover liniment. This method has been successful in many cases so it may be worth giving a try. If you want to think outside of the box you can try using banana peel and rub this on the breeze.

Bruises are very ugly looking but will go away if you treat them quickly, the faster you treat a breeze the faster it will go away. To get rid of bruises do not sweat it because they are nothing to worry about.

It’s advisable to contact your GP if there is no improvement or reduction in the back pain and inflammation after 3 days There is a plethora of exercises, medication, or therapy products and gadgets available to sufferers, designed to provide either, relief, prevention or both.

Although some of these back pain products (such as Magnatherapy or aromatherapy) would be described as ‘alternative’ or pseudoscientific ie they have few empirically or scientifically proven benefits, many are developed through the application of sound medical principle and theory. It’s worthwhile asking your GP for recommendations on any therapies as well as making sure that the cause is not more serious

Back pain therapy devices PGAT devices

Inversion Tables

Inversion is a natural form of passive gravity assisted traction (PGAT) that uses the patient’s body weight in conjunction with gravity to decompress weight-bearing joints. While the patient is rotated and suspended, gravity effectively creates a traction, resulting in a customized stretch that extends the spine, from the sacroiliac to the cervical joints of the neck, increasing the space between the vertebrae, which relieves the pressure on the discs and nerve roots. By reducing this pressure there is less interference with the spinal nerves thus reducing lower lumbar pain. Inversion is considered to be an effective therapy This is typically performed on what’s called an inversion table.

The table allows you to lie on your back relaxed, in an inverted position. This position eliminates some or all gravitational compression, depending upon how far back you position your body. Inversion therapy relieves back pain, and it works even better when it’s part of a well-rounded therapy plan that addresses the specific muscle imbalances you have. But even by itself it is highly effective. A recent study done at Newcastle University found that over 70% of patients who performed inversion therapy were able to cancel their scheduled back surgeries.

CPM Mobilisers

Backlife is designed to apply a Continuous Passive Movement (CPM) to the lower back pain sufferer in a similar way to how a healthcare professional, as part of his back pain therapy, would apply in order to help relieve pressure between the vertebrae, and therefore relieve pain in the lumbar region. In order to apply CPM the user would lie on the floor bending their knees over the upper section of the machine. As the upper section moves, it gently rotates the pelvis in a circular fashion, allowing the joints to move, whilst the joints remain relaxed. The advertised benefits of Backlife for pain relief are that it reduces the stress and pressure on the lower back, restores back mobility and improves stability. In addition it reduces lumbar pain with regular use, improves posture, and reduces muscle tension.

Back in action Mobiliser

The Back in Action Mobiliser is an extremely powerful medical grade spinal joint mobilisation system, available for home or professional use for back pain relief. It’s described as usually very effective at decreasing the symptoms of long term and chronic musculo-skeletal problems. The system applies very localised pressure to the muscles either side of the spine, simulating a practitioners ‘thumbing technique, whilst mobilising the spine, flexing and extending the spine, freeing up stubborn vertebrae. In addition to this the mobilise provides a continuous passive motion (CPM) considered to be beneficial to health and aid healing The mobilise has been used to treat conditions such as: lumbago; prolapse /slipped disc, sciatica; scoliosis, arthritic hips, sacro-iliac dysfunction, whiplash injuries; fibromyalgia and many other disabling conditions. It is also comprehensively tested and endorsed by medics, so that it is probably the most commended back pain therapy care system available. Its most significant disadvantage is that it is made in small numbers and is expensive to buy however they are available to hire.

The Backstretcher, also known as the Rolastretcher provides relief with a combination of massage and stretching movements, allowing the user to move and stretch different parts of the spine by moving up and down the frame. The rollers also provide pressure (acupressure) on the back muscles either side of the spine where dysfunctional trigger points (knots) often occur. It provides back pain sufferers the opportunity to complement their therapeutic treatment with a device, which is portable, The effectiveness of this device has been confirmed by scientific study by the University of Iowa’s Spine Centre.

Flexibak is back support cradle that is designed to ease lower back pain problems, reduce discomfort, and promote relief, by decompression of key joints, allowing natural movement to return to the user. Flexibak, developed by 2 leading British osteopaths, is designed to encourage the lumbar and sacroiliac joints to open up, and encourage the return of natural movement as pressure on inflamed muscles is relieved.

Back cushions and wedges and Supports Cushions

Back cushions

These are custom shaped soft cushions which are tailored to the natural shape of the user’s lower back and designed to offer support whilst maintaining an ergonomic and comfortable posture whilst sat on a chair or in the car, thus providing an element of relief for low back pain.

Seat wedges

Seat wedges provide lumbar pain relief in a natural passive manner. Sitting on a seat wedge has the effect of moving forward the pelvis which has the effect of causing the users spine to adopt a more ergonomically correct upright posture. Seat wedges maybe useful for lumbar pain suffering car drivers by angling their backs into more comfortable driving positions, or in sedentary workplace situations where the back pain sufferer may be adopting a suiting position for several hours, for example call centre workers. Ideal for everybody working in a sitting position, especially PC users. A variant of the seat wedge is the coccyx wedge which incorporates a cut away section to reduce or avoid pressure on the sacrum or coccyx which could be causing lower back pain or tail bone pain.

Back Braces

These aim to constrict the affected area of low back pain low afflicted area, these strap-on body braces help reduce lower back pain and help to correct poor posture.

TENS units

TENS (Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) is the application of electric current produced by a device to stimulate the nerves for therapeutic purposes. In this case we are referring to portable stimulators used to help with back pain. The unit is usually connected to the skin using two or more electrodes or semi adhesive pads. Although the first units developed in the US for testing tolerance of chronic back pain sufferers to electrical stimulation in preparation for surgically invasive implants, many patients reported deriving relief from the TENS itself. A number of companies began manufacturing TENS units after the commercial success of the Meditronic device became known TENS is regarded as a non-invasive, safe nerve stimulation intended to reduce pain, both acute and chronic. Controversy does exist over its effectiveness in treating of chronic back pain. In 2007 a feature in the Pain Journal concluded that ENS was effective for chronic musculoskeletal pain whereas the journal Neurology advised against recommending TENS for chronic lower back pain, but other neurologists in the same journal suggested that in some patients TENS is useful. TENS units available from high street retailers Baxolve offers immediate relief for lower back pain through a combination of TENS therapy and lumbar support in one easy to use convenient belt.

Heat and cold back pain products

There is little empirical evidence that the application of hot and cold compresses actually effectively relieve back pain conditions, although the use of hot and cold compresses may provide relief by helping to reduce the lower back pain, spasms, and inflammation, in turn allowing for improved mobility for some back pain sufferers. Immediately after the trauma, the sufferer would apply a cold compress (generally ice packs or refrigerant gel) to the affected area of the lower back pain, maybe after a strain, for up to about 20 minutes a few time a day, for a couple of days to help reduce tissue inflammation. After a couple of days the back pain sufferer would then apply heat to the affected area, using a variety of methods such as heat pads, heat lamps etc for short durations. This has the effect of dilating the blood vessels which increase blood flow to the affected tissues, and encouraging the healing process. It also has the effect of relaxing the muscles similar to having a warm bath after exertion. As with any back pain treatment it’s advisable to consult your GP before commencing a treatment.

Magnet therapy

Magnet therapy can be described as an alternative or pseudoscientific method of back pain treatment, using magnetic fields on the body to promote back pain relief and healing, with a perceived, though not understood positive effect on blood oxygen content. There is no scientific basis to conclude that small, static magnets can relieve pain It has its origins in Traditional Oriental Medicine (TOM) dating back some 2000 years, centered around ‘Chi’or ‘energy flows’ around the body and instrumental in health and wellbeing, with magnetic wave therapy having associations with acupuncture or and acupressure. Although it is regarded with an element of scepticism due to seemingly physical and biological implausibility, in Eastern countries, therapeutic magnets are licensed as medical devices, and it does appear to be gaining some recognition within the US medical community, with an example of affirmative research of published in the MDBR Journal of Rheumatology. The downside to this is the difficulty associated with establishing true blind testing of magnets and associated ‘placebo or Hawthorne’ effects within test groups. By all means have a look at what’s available but remain sceptical.

Ultrasound is often used as a method of pain relief by physios and therapists in combination with other pain treatments, such as manipulation, massage, ice treatment and interferential (electrotherapy). The ultrasound device causes millions of sound waves to penetrate deep into tissue in order to promote healing of inflamed or damaged muscles, tendons and ligaments. It’s claimed that ultrasound can reduce tissue inflammation by stimulating blood flow, promote healing by stimulating soft tissue, and assist in the absorption uf analgesics, and reduce pain. Again there is conflict over the effectiveness for lower back pain treatment with both positive user testimonials offset by inconclusive meta analysis. See Physical Therapy article Jul 2001 and New Zealand Journal of Physiotherapy Jul 2008

Ultralieve Pro is a mains operated or portable hand held medical grade device designed for home use to help with pain and promote healing by conducting ultrasound waves into the damaged tissue. Although the device is easy its perhaps best if the user has received ultrasound treatment previously from a physio or healthcare professional, and again it’s advisable to check with your GP or physio before using one to derive pain relief It should not be used as a replacement for conventional help with back pain but in conjunction with it in between sessions. Again there is conflict over the effectiveness to help with back pain with both positive user testimonials offset by inconclusive meta analysis.

How to Apply Duoderm Wound Dressings

Duoderm dressings are among the most technologically-advanced wound care systems on the market today. They offer gentle, pain-free care for wounds of all types, something that anyone who has ever experienced a serious wound knows is crucial.

Wounds are extremely painful, no matter how they originate. Whether it’s a healing burn, an abrasion or laceration resulting from an accident, bed sores or a diabetic sore, dressing and re-dressing persistent wounds hurts. It’s one of the most stressful aspects of the healing process.

Easing this painful process was the goal in creating the Duoderm line of wound care products. Duoderm dressings are made with the patient in mind, and are gentle to apply and remove. The pain associated with the application of wound dressings is greatly reduced with Duoderm dressings in comparison to most standard wound care products. This contributes to a better wound care experience overall, and minimizes the stress associated with application and removal.

Proper application of Duoderm dressings will help maximize the level of wear comfort, and will also significantly enhance the healing process. To apply:

1) Clean the wound. Wash your hands first. Then, follow the instructions given by your doctor for cleaning, if any. Most wounds can be cleaned gently and effectively using a mild, fragrance-free antibacterial liquid cleanser or professional-brand surgical scrub solution and a clean cloth. A sterile saline-solution is also a good alternative. Check with your doctor if you are unsure. Always avoid any vigorous rubbing, and rinse away cleansers under running water rather than with a wet cloth, which can introduce more irritants and bacteria into the newly-cleansed wound. Avoid alcohol-based products which can dry and severely irritate the wound and surrounding skin.

2) Allow the area to air dry. Duoderm dressings will adhere best to skin that isn’t wet to the touch. Never dry with a cloth, as this can create further irritation and can also introduce new bacteria into the area.

3) Remove the protective film. Make sure that you don’t touch the surface of the wound dressing when you do.

4) Place the dressing over the wound. Make sure that the dressing is centered over the middle of the wound’s circumference. If the wound is uneven, as many are, choose a Duoderm dressing that most closely resembles the shape of the wound. Dressings come in round, oval, square and triangular shapes, as well as ones that can be cut to fit. Press gently on the borders of the dressing to adhere.

One of the biggest advantages of the Duoderm wound care system is the length of wear time. Dressings can be worn between three and seven days, depending on the product and type of wound. Longer wear time means faster healing and less need to go through the painful process of dressing removal.

Duoderm dressings do not stick to the wound area itself. Therefore, the pain generally associated with removal is greatly reduced or absent. To remove:

1) Wash your hands.

2) Gently lift the border of the dressing. Continue lifting at the border until you can gently pull of the rest of the dressing.

3) Dab off any excess liquid. A wound that has not completely healed may bear some residue (pus or exudate). This should be dabbed away gently, preferably with sterile gauze rather than a washcloth.

4) Clean the wound as per the first step in applying Duoderm dressings.

Check with your doctor beforehand to determine whether or not you need to apply a new Duoderm dressing after removing the old one.
