Combatives Technique – Chin Jab

One of the techniques we teach in combatives is called the Chin Jab. The Chin Jab is essentially a palm strike, and there are various and sundry palm strikes in many systems. I think this is a very special flavor of palm strike that is perfect for fights that are extremely close range. It is particularly effective for women who, according to Melissa Soalt (aka Dr. Ruthless), tend to be engulfed by their attackers. As is true for most combatives techniques, a practitioner does not have to rely on tremendous skill or accuracy to make the Chin Jab work, which is precisely the idea! Many of the classic WWII combatives strikes had to be taught very quickly to soldiers shipping out to war. Efficacy and ease of acquisition were very important, as you might imagine.

As its name implies, the Chin Jab is applied to the chin, with the heel of the palm. Kelly McCann likens the hand orientation to that of palming a grapefruit. The strike comes from below the field of vision, which means you are pretty darned close to your target. While driving up and through an assailant’s centerline (though you can deliver it from an angle and it is taught this way, too), as Dennis Martin describes, move “your body in the strike”, accelerating through the target. The elbow remains bent, and McCann recommends keeping it pointing downward. He also checks the opponent’s right arm as he moves in for the strike. In the classic text, Kill or Get Killed, Rex Applegate recommends that the fingers of the striking hand be extended to keep the palm rigid. The blow is most devastating when the chin is protruding forward, and when the strike is applied more directly under the chin.

The Chin Jab is categorized as pre-emptive, and McCann states that you might use it while the aggressor is talking. I can imagine this has added benefit-the guy is probably going to sink his teeth deeply into his tongue upon impact. The main idea is unconsciousness, or the “6 inch KO.” The chin is a sweet spot for a knockout, and Dennis calls it an effective lever for “moving the cranium” and essentially rocking the brain inside the skull. Whether it actually moves the brain in a spiral, I have no idea, but the end result has been witnessed over and over again. There is some discussion about the Chin Jab possibly causing damage to the cervical spine, as well. Applegate depicts the simultaneous action of grabbing the belt with the left hand and pulling the body forward at the moment of impact on the chin, thereby causing neck fracture.

Additionally, Applegate describes another combination: the knee strike to the groin with the Chin Jab. It is likely he will bend forward after receiving a devastating blow from your knee, thereby producing the ideal target for the Chin Jab: the chin protruding very far forward. We find it difficult to do both techniques simultaneously.

Think of the Chin Jab as a surprise, close quarters strike, most likely delivered from a protective fence of some kind, a ready stance, or even from what Dennis calls the “listening fence”: feigning that you missed what was being said, moving in closer to hear it again, and subsequently delivering the blow. Keep this in mind: the principles of combatives include hitting hard, fast and using the element of surprise. I think of combatives as more self-offense, because I don’t believe in waiting for confirmation, like being struck (or worse-stabbed or shot), before launching an attack as long as I have perceived the threat and the appropriate pre-incident indicators to violence. Essentially, I believe in pre-emptive strikes, because as I will state over and over, action is faster than reaction. In any case, I recommend you play with this technique and drill it with the knowledge and confidence that it is field-tested to be brutally effective!

For the smaller families and people with a fairly low budget the Maruti New Alto is the perfect choice. The compact hatchback gives a secure feeling to the driver and the people sitting in the car. The car is easy and economical on maintenance too as the spare parts of Maruti are very affordable and the services never to be doubted upon.

Cool, Design and Styling!

In the newer version of the Maruti Alto the rear seats are foldable giving a new dimension to the earlier version. The fabric of the seats available in the New Alto is different and definitely better than the previous one. The sticker badging has been provided at the rear side and the company logo on the boot giving a more stylized look to the car. The heater and ventilator rotary type air conditioner does a good job.

The wheel rim design has been changed for the good. The dashboard is again simple and plain but given in 2 tone colours. It has been given with a stiff chassis that makes the driving experience all the more enjoyable. The colours in which the New Alto is available are Blue Blaze, Ecru Beige, Superior White, Fire Brick Red, Silky Silver and Midnight Black. The design patterns and the colour scheme have worked magically on the car.

Engine and other specifications

The new Alto boasts of an excellent mileage of 19.7 kilometres per litre. The top speed being a good 138 kilometres the maximum power given out by the BSIV Compliant engine is 47 Bhp@ 6200 rpm although it remains to be a little 796 cc. The displacement of the engine is 3-cylinder, F8D with maximum torque of 62Nm@ 3000rpm. The 0.8 litre engine has an acceleration of 0-100 in 17.7 seconds much better than the one before.

The car is capable of seating 5 individuals at a time. The size of the tubeless tyres is 145/80 R12 and the suspension Mc Pherson Strut, Gas filled coil spring shocks. The kerb weight of the vehicle is 6900 kilograms. The New Alto has 5 manual gear system with electronic power steering and front disk and rear drum brakes.

Brake boosters are a new feature in this car. The bumpers are usual as before with being black in colour. The seat adjustment system is manual. The speedometer has a new design with a digital fuel meter. The engine immobiliser and the tail lamp cluster are new add-ons. The Catalytic Converter makes the car eco friendly.

Drawbacks of the car

Altered with new design and other features the engine is still a meagre 800 cc not being suitable for expressways. The car is still suited only for city needs. The Maruti New Alto is definitely a step ahead of its previous version, very affordable, economical and easy on maintenance car for a small happy family.

Herpes Natural Treatments Are Crucial For Your Health

What is Herpes?

Herpes refers to a family of viruses. Almost everyone carries one or more of the most common herpes viruses that occur in people (pets have different types than you do). The most well-known types are:

  • HSV-1 (cold sores)
  • HSV-2 (genital herpes)
  • HZV (chickenpox and shingles)

Six additional types round out the human herpes family. Among these are viruses that scientists believe to be responsible for many diseases, including:

  • Infectious mononucleosis
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Disorders of the immune system
  • Hepatitis
  • A type of skin cancer called Kaposi’s sarcoma

This is a pretty nasty family of viruses. Herpes viruses are under constant scrutiny by research scientists because new discoveries point to an ever widening role for herpes in more and more diseases. Nearly 50,000 scientific journal articles have been published on herpes since 1975, more than 15,000 since the year 2000 alone.

The old notions of herpes as just a sexually transmitted disease that ‘a friend of mine, not me’ has, or as ordinary childhood chickenpox or an occasional cold sore, are obsolete. These old beliefs lull people into a false sense of security by completely missing how deadly this family of viruses can be to almost everyone in the country.

Herpes Dangers Are Much Greater Than Your Doctor Knows

If your doctor knew the trouble that herpes viruses can cause, you would be hearing about a worldwide herpes pandemic. Three-quarters of the population already has a type of herpes virus that has been linked with lupus, lymphomas, and a number of cancers. This type causes mutations that turn on cancer genes. Cancer is a bigger problem than ever, regardless of the propaganda claims from the cancer research industry.

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading killers in all developed nations. Recent research has found that type of herpes virus may play a key role in the development of coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis. This type infects about 60% of adults and is even more common among homosexual men. It can be sexually transmitted.

Herpes viruses are opportunistic. They bloom when they sense that the immune system is preoccupied fighting off another infection, such as a cold or flu. When herpes viruses sense that stress, aging, cancer or physical injury, etc., has weakened the body, they accelerate their attack. This is why symptomatic herpes outbreaks often occur right after an illness like a severe flu, a physical injury such as surgery, or periods of emotional stress.

No Symptoms? The Shocking Hidden Story

A much larger number of people have herpes viruses than actually show symptoms, whether they be genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, or chickenpox. Symptom-free carriers of HSV-2 are more prevalent than those who develop genital rashes. Almost everyone has HSV-1, although fewer than 20% will ever have cold sores. All adults who had chickenpox as children will harbor HZV for life, even though this virus will only reappear as shingles in a minority of them.

Two newly discovered herpes viruses rarely cause typical herpes symptoms. However, they are found in about 90% of the population. These are considered to be “universal” herpes viruses. One is now linked with the development of multiple sclerosis. New types of herpes also play a role in heart disease, hypertension, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, lupus, and multiple sclerosis.

No Such Thing as a Herpes Cure: Even ‘Latent’ Infections Ruin Your Health

As you can see, herpes infections aren’t just nuisance diseases as once thought. Regardless of whether they cause outbreaks or remain latent, these viruses are dangerous to everyone who has them. The old logic held that, since people were not visibly sick most of the time with herpes virus diseases, these viruses must be ‘sleeping’ during most of our lives and therefore were not dangerous to our health. Herpes viruses are not actually ‘sleeping’ at all. Rather, they are very active in the parts of the body that they inhabit, inflicting constant, cumulative damage to critical organs in our bodies as they replicate at a low level throughout our lives. This damage begins early in life, at a low enough level to not produce any noticeable symptoms in generally healthy individuals.

This new way of viewing herpes viruses is a tremendously important revelation that will affect everyone, since herpes viruses are universal factors in human health. The medical data are very clear. Virtually 100% of the human population, regardless of location, carries at least one herpes virus. Research also shows that the majority of the human population is harboring at least five herpes virus infections.

And herpes viruses never go away completely. This means that no treatment can be considered a true herpes cure.

Ongoing herpes research underscores the challenge of understanding how this family of viruses affects our immune system. Several dozen complications are already known to be associated with herpes infections of different types, and more are being discovered each year. Many such complications, such as painful post-herpetic neuralgia, do not respond to antiviral treatments and can drag on for months or years after the initial infection has subsided.

Drugs Are Not the Answer

Synthetic drugs do, indeed, stop viruses from reproducing. They do not, however, help your body defend itself. On the contrary, drugs slow your immune system down right when you need it the most. Why doctors continue to prescribe them has to do with big business, not with your health.

You must learn about the actions of both new and old antiviral drugs if you want to even think about choosing this route for your health. Drug companies have come up with a lot of tricks. Your only defense against them is to keep up with what they are doing.

Best Natural Treatments

The main advantages of natural treatments are that they are non-toxic, have multiple ways to help you fight a viral infection, and often help boost your immune system just when you need it the most. They also offer short-term solutions as well as long-term health. The track record of herbs is especially impressive against the trickiest types of herpes, the ones that cause genital herpes, cold sores, and shingles.

Worldwide research on natural herpes treatments is substantial. The health benefits of certain herbs, such as creosote bush and lemon balm are well-established. The importance of boosting the right vitamins, minerals, and other nutritional supplements is a must-know for you. Research on the benefits of Tai Chi may even surprise you. On the other hand, studies on lysine supplementation show that this amino acid doesn’t really measure up to what people have thought.

Key to Your Success Against Herpes

It may be my bias as a former university professor. However, I believe that the key to good health in the face herpes is to know about how the latest research can be of benefit to you. The activities of herbs against viruses are being investigated in laboratories around the world every day. Hundreds of research articles have been published on this topic over the past few years.

It may be difficult and overwhelming for you to find the latest research on your own and to interpret its value for you. Your best bet is to find a scientist who has expertise in this area and with whom you can communicate regularly. You can also surf the Internet to find all of the sites and blogs that offer reviews of the scientific literature for the public and that provide regular updates on the latest studies.

Living a normal life with herpes, whether it leads to outbreaks or lurks dangerously in its so-called ‘latent’ form, demands that you stay well-informed. It is your best hope for making the best choices for your own health.

Symptoms Of Mono, Relapse And Treatment

There are just so many diseases out there. Many people are already worried that because of their constant interactions with so many people they will become at risk to many types of communicable and infectious diseases. Many of these diseases can be acquired by merely shaking hands with another person, talking, etc. You can only do so much in order to keep healthy. One way of doing this is to boost the performance of the immune system by taking vitamins and supplements designed to keep the system in great form. Another way to combat diseases is to keep yourself clean particularly your hands. This way you’ll avoid getting illnesses as well as passing it on to anybody.

The reason why this is being discussed is because of the type of disease that’s going to be tackled in length in this article, Mononucleosis. Mononucleosis is an infectious disease that can be commonly contracted by teenagers and young adults. It is caused by a virus known as Epstein – Barr virus that is very vicious. It is very “restless” that is why it can easily jump from one host to another. In fact, Epstein – Barr virus on Mononucleosis can be fatal to people who are younger than 15 years old and people who are older than 25 years old at the time of infection.

Mononucleosis is also what is called as glandular fever and infectious mononucleosis. It can contracted by way of intense kissing, through saliva when you use other people’s drinking glass, eating utensils, towels, etc. Sometimes, the virus just stays in your throat and stays dormant for a period of time. During relapse, it will become active and the symptoms will now start to manifest.

Symptoms

In order to help you recognize Mono early on, here are some of the most common as well as the rare symptoms of Mono.

Common:

Swollen groin, armpit and neck glands

Extreme feeling of fatigue

Low to high fever

Sore throat that is similar to tonsillitis

Other symptoms (sometimes rare to others)

Enlarged tonsils

Headache

Muscle pain

Skin rash

No appetite

Abdominal and stomach pains

And when checked by doctors, enlarged liver and spleen

Treatment

As already mentioned, Mononucleosis is a disease that is caused by the Epstein – Barr virus. That is why it cannot be treated by taking antibiotics. There also other conventional way of treating Mono but what they do is just to relieve the symptoms of Mono like the aches and pains but not the actual disease.

There are now books out there that discuss natural ways, means and methods of fighting mono. It is also very essential to have adequate rest and sleep when treating mono. Supplements, vitamins and pure water therapy are also very helpful with this type of infection. There are also homeopathy treatments that are proven to be very effective in treating mono.

Relapse

Unfortunately, there are people who can have mono several times during their lifetime. That is why these patients can suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome as well. Experts say that stress brings about mono relapse and we all know that stress has become a part of our lives in this day and age. The ultimate thing to do is to strengthen your immune system in order to do a better job of protecting your body from the attack of Epstein-Barr virus. Once you have been diagnosed with mono you have to be very aware and careful about your health. Regular exercise, right and balanced diet are your primary source of protection against any infectious disease.

Ultimately, Mononucleosis can be prevented by making sure you are living and practising a healthy lifestyle. Remember that mono cannot be treated with conventional antibiotics because it is caused by a virus and not by bacteria. When you are already experiencing some of the symptoms mentioned above go and see your doctor immediately for proper diagnosis. If you can’t prevent it from entering your system then preventing it from getting worse is the next best thing.

Inflammatory Arthritis

Among several ailments that a person can have, arthritis is one of those that can hardly be prevented and unluckily, it develops while a person ages and may get even worse as time goes by. The term arthritis refers generally to all types of inflammation in joints and degradation. Even though there are lots of kinds of this ailment, its term is often used even in the absence of the disease. Say for instance, the joints of a person become weak because bone tissue and cartilage is lost due to aging, but pain associated with it in the affected areas does not necessarily mean the presence of arthritis.

The elderly are the ones who experience the intense pain caused by inflammatory arthritis. The disease is characterized by varying types of conditions of degeneration and inflammation. When an immune system attacks itself, it can result in the development of such joint ailment. For instance, Osteoarthritis is an ailment characterized by the friction of the ends of two bones due to complete lack of cartilage. This kind of degenerative condition causes pain that is triggered throughout the day as the joint is affected by a certain activity. Like any other diseases, there is the best treatment for the degenerative forms of inflammatory arthritis. It is the Non- Steroidal Anti- Inflammatory (NSAID’s) medications like Ibuprofen or Naproxen. Apart from this, supplements such as Glucosamine and Chondroitin are also believed to be helpful in improving the health of joints in the elderly.

There are also cases of this disease which are caused by other autoimmune diseases like the Rheumatoid Arthritis. In a condition like this, the immune system happens to attack the area around the joints in which bone and joint tissues are degraded. It is important for the inflammatory arthritis to be treated properly to avoid having the disease triggered or get worse over time. Technically, you must know about the symptoms associated with this joint disease. The first parts that may be affected are the hands and small joints then symptoms go down to knees, ankles, elbows, and the toes and fingers. Treatments like pills, creams and supplements can remedy inflammatory arthritis but may lose their effectiveness as time goes by.

If you are suffering from this ailment, the first thing you need to do is take Glucosamine Chondroitin supplement and NSAID’s if necessary. If symptoms persist, it is best for you to consult your doctor for he may have more advanced medicines to prescribe to you. Worst case scenario, surgery is right for you and will be recommended by the doctor. This procedure involves rebuilding your joins and relieving the pain you feel. Despite the presence of many advanced medicines and procedures, the best treatment still is to get so much rest and treat your swollen joints with ice or heating pads. These are natural remedies for inflammatory arthritis. Ample rest is so effective in preventing and curing this disease. In case of acute forms of this disease, the best option is to consult the doctor for proper medication. On your part, it is well for you to make extensive research about this joint ailment especially the remedies or supplements available. Following all these tips, it is not impossible for you to live a normal and inflammatory arthritis- free life.

Type 2 Diabetes – Supplements Effective At Improving Insulin Sensitivity

As you go about organizing your healthy eating plan, whether you have Type 2 diabetes or not, it’s important you pay close attention to your insulin sensitivity levels. Those who have reduced insulin sensitivity are far more likely to see a fat gain, especially in their abdominal area. Their body has a preference to store the glucose (carbohydrates) they consume, rather than to use it up as a fuel source.

In contrast, those who have enough insulin sensitivity are often leaner, more athletic, and can lower their risk factor for Type 2 diabetes as well. Sounds like a pretty good deal, right?

Insulin sensitivity is going to be largely dependent on the eating plan and exercise program you follow. But there are two supplements to help you push things in the right direction. Let’s look at what these two supplements are so you can consider adding them to your approach…

1. Fish Oil. The first supplement that can help increase insulin sensitivity is fish oil. Fish oil is going to provide you with the necessary omega-3 fatty acids, which many people currently fall short of including in their eating plan. Omega-3 fatty acids are needed to ensure your cells respond to insulin as well as for some other health reasons such as…

  • decreasing heart disease,
  • improving your immune system,
  • fostering a healthier mind, and
  • boosting your mood

to name just a few.

If you aren’t eating a few servings of salmon or other sources rich in omega-3 fatty acids each week, you’d be wise to start taking fish oil on a regular basis.

Three to six capsules per day could have a significant influence on your insulin sensitivity.

2. CLA. Another supplement you might want to consider if you are looking to improve insulin sensitivity is CLA, which stands for conjugated linoleic acid. CLA is a particular fatty acid found in meat and dairy products that once again, many people aren’t getting enough of. To get this fatty acid from those two foods, you need to be eating very high-quality products from grass-fed cows. If you eat grain fed, the CLA content will be virtually none. As this does come with a price tag, many people forgo it and opt for grain fed instead.

Adding a CLA supplement can help give you this important fatty acid that can…

  • improve your insulin sensitivity,
  • strengthen your heart,
  • boost your immune system, and
  • may also help increase the rate of fatty acid release from the body fat tissues.

In the long run, this could go on to assist you with your fat burning efforts.

So there are two key supplements you may want to give some thought to if you are hoping to improve your insulin sensitivity. Use these along with making smart changes to your workout and eating plan.

Preventing Obesity?

Chronic rapidly increasing obesity has become a major public health problem in industrialized countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has called obesity epidemic first non-infectious history. Its management is seen as a priority, and even more so than being overweight affects individuals of younger and younger.

Data collected by WHO showed that nearly half of Americans are overweight, while a quarter of the population is frankly obese, a figure that may reach 70% of some populations. Europe is not spared, with 30% of adults overweight, obesity affecting 12% of adults in Western Europe. In France, the prevalence of obesity has increased by about 45% between l987 and 1996, and the number of obese individuals is estimated at 8 million. Obesity also affects the young population, since the number of obese children has doubled since the 80s, and the prevalence of obesity is estimated at 10-12% in children aged 6 to 12 years. Some studies predict that at this rate half the European population is affected by obesity by 2030.

Obesity is a condition characterized by excess body fat (or fat). An international standard has been adopted for measuring overweight and obesity. This is the Body Mass Index (BMI), defined as weight divided by the square of height in kg/m2 (see box). BMI estimates the degree of obesity and thus allows to assess the health risk (co-morbidity) associated with it (see box). A person is considered obese when this value is greater than or equal to 30 kg/m2. In addition to BMI, it should also measure the distribution of body fat. Indeed, it is now accepted that the presence of excess fat in the abdomen causes an increased risk to health. Thus, a waist circumference exceeding 88 cm in women, and 102 cm in men, indicating visceral obesity and increased risk of developing other clinical problems.

The reasons for the development of obesity are many. Obesity is a multifactorial symptom resulting from complex interactions between a genetic and more or less conducive environment in which it operates. Indeed, the heritability of fatness is undeniable. Certain subjects resist obesity whilst others are particularly sensitive to changes in diet and its fat content. For example, an overweight child with at least one obese parent has a 80% risk of becoming obese as adults, against only 10% chance if both parents were poor.

The various family analysis concluded that there was a small number of genes playing a role in body size and regional distribution of body fat. The results of research of the past three years suggest the involvement of a score of different genes or chromosomal regions. This means that the biochemical and physiological systems responsible for the formation of obesity are multiple and occur at different stages of energy regulation. The human genome and advances in molecular genetics should therefore allow to classify the “obesity” based on the metabolic mechanisms put into play.

However, research suggests that genetic factors are involved themselves in less than one third of cases of obesity, showing that heredity does not explain everything. Furthermore, it is unlikely that the human genome has changed in the space of one generation to the point of causing the obesity epidemic raging. The fact that, globally, overweight affects more people than the current generation of parents and grandparents, shows that other factors are to blame. Indeed, the rapid changes of environment and behavior in recent decades are major determinants of the rapid development of this disease. And it is primarily in dietary habits and lifestyle that are the root causes of the obesity epidemic.

Eating foods with high calories and high in fat, coupled with a lifestyle more sedentary plays a role in the development of overweight and obesity trends around. Remember that gaining weight is never the result of an imbalance of energy balance, that is to say between calorie intake and food use by the organization (to operate and maintain body temperature ). When food intake exceeds energy expenditure, excess energy is stored as body fat. If this mechanism is set aside has enabled man to overcome periods of scarcity, it seems to serve in times of glut.

Far from being merely a matter of aesthetics, being overweight causes many health complications: respiratory disorders, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders (diabetes type 2, noninsulin-dependent diabetes says bold), rheumatic problems, increased risk of certain cancers. Other disorders such as cholesterol, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, infertility, venous insufficiency, reflux esophagitis is frequently associated with obesity. In the United States for example, overweight is responsible for the increase in diabetes among people in their thirties, in the space of ten years, this disease has increased 76% in this age group and 33% in the general population. Among children, too, a form of ultra-early diabetes type 2 appeared a few years ago, which is growing alarmingly. The first cases of atypical diabetes have been detected in France in 1999 and the new disease is spreading.

The treatment of obesity does not limit itself to solve a weight problem, but is to take charge of the medical problem in its entirety. These treatment and prevention of physical disorders while developing a program tailored to weight loss. Recall that the approach of drug treatment of obesity is controversial. Medications such as diuretics, anorexigenic catabolic and promote weight loss but do not act specifically on the reduction of fatty tissue. In addition, generally effective in early treatment, they have not proven long term. And in many cases, they are the cause of severe metabolic disturbances, and therefore strongly discouraged. Thus, diuretics that force the kidneys to excrete more water can cause serious electrolyte imbalance, or dehydration. The catabolic can be toxic, causing side effects on the heart and central nervous system. The anorectic can lead to addiction and other psychological disorders they were removed from the European market at the beginning of the year.

A new treatment acting on the gastrointestinal tract to block fat absorption in part by the agency was recently prescribed. Other molecules are under development or after marketing procedure. Finally, in some cases, the severity of obesity is such that surgery on the stomach is stimulated, the gastroplasty. It aims to reduce food intake by reducing gastric volume: the stomach and divided into two compartments, like an hourglass, the narrow passage is created using a ring. Considering its effect on weight loss and reduction of associated pathologies, it seems that the effectiveness of gastroplasty in the short and medium terms is recognized. But among experts, Some wonder about the soundness of a surgical measure in response to a behavioral problem.

However, medication does not solve the problems of weight and not “cure” not obese. They must be medically monitored, and enroll in a comprehensive, involving diet and regular physical activity. It is now commonly accepted that the diet must be customized, that is to say into consideration the habits and feeding behavior of each individual, but also realistic, since it is imperative that they are long-term.

In industrialized countries, the economic cost of obesity and associated diseases is 2.4 to 5% of health spending. Of course, the numbers vary depending on the disease taken into account in assessing the costs and the proportion of cases attributable to obesity-related illnesses each. Thus, a recent U.S. study estimated $ 238 billion (253 billion euros) the expenditure incurred in the United States to treat diseases related to obesity such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, these data do not take include expenditures related to treatment of obesity itself. In Canada, the direct cost attributable to obesity treatment has been estimated at more than 1.8 billion Canadian dollars in 1997 (1.3 billion euros), while in France the cost was $ 11.9 million francs in 1992 (1.8 million).

The treatment of obesity is so complicated that it is better not to accumulate excess weight rather than trying to lose. It is therefore important to adopt preventive measures to avoid the occurrence of overweight among children and the installation of obesity in adults. The only way not to gain weight is to limit energy intake and exercise physical activity, prevention campaigns should focus on the acquisition of basic knowledge about nutrition and proper eating habits while encouraging regular exercise. This is to establish a healthy lifestyle, and not to develop obsessive behavior for weight control. It should perhaps be guided by the preventive methods developed in Finland, the only country to have stabilized their numbers.

Useful Veins Surgery Guide For Everyone

There are several ways of treating varicose veins, but it should be noted that the only truly effective remedy with long lasting effects is the surgical intervention. An atraumatic method exists and can be adapted in each case. Operations are usually performed in the area of the ambulatory system. Postoperatively the patient leaves the clinic immediately and can walk around 30 minutes after surgery, without requiring immobilization.

The main advantages of this medical intervention are as follows:

* there is no bleeding during surgery or after the operation is completed;

* the operation is performed under local anesthesia;

* aesthetic surgery includes an incision of 1-3 mm in the skin, causing less pain than other interventions;

* immediate mobilization of the patient is not required after surgery and the patient can even drive his own car when leaving the clinic.

Any case of varicose veins can now be fixed by the latest medical technologies, no matter how difficult they seem like. Patients in complicated stages of varicose veins can also undergo this kind of surgery, such as those with superficial thrombophlebitis or trophic skin disorders, including venous leg ulcers. In addition to this, patients suffering from venous ulcers of the leg will heal after approximately 2-6 weeks after surgery.

The varicose veins surgery is usually known as sclerotherapy and can be performed only for reticular varices (veins with a maximum diameter of 2-3 mm and a green-blue color) and telangiectasias (dilated blood vessels in the fine structure of the skin, with an appearance similar to a spider web).

The concentrations of the substances used are dependable on the vein diameter. Sclerotherapy techniques are also adapted to each type of lesion and each topographic zone, so the procedure is easy to support and eliminates the risk of spots or scars after the intervention. In some cases surgery is necessary to be combined with other procedures in order to cure varicose veins with sclerotherapy in the same session or in separate sessions.

A very important fact should be emphasized: any patient suffering from varicose veins in the area of the legs can be cured surgically. In order to achieve the best aesthetic results surgery should be performed as soon as possible. A particularly important role in guiding patients with varicose veins of the legs is the one of a GP or a trained dermatologist. Inadequate treatment can lead to extension of disease progression and severe complications.

Skin Rash – Causes and Treatment

Skin rash can be caused by a number of factors. The most common cause includes allergic reactions on to food, chemicals, plants, and animals or insects. Have you ever wondered why some people are prone to have allergic skin rashes while others are immune to them. In this article I will be writing about allergic skin rashes, its causes, and its prevention.

Allergic skin rashes can occur anywhere on the body. Most commonly these rashes occur at the region which comes in contact with the allergen. The severity of the reaction depends on the sensitivity of the person to the allergen. The skin is a natural barrier protecting our internal organs. It acts as our first line of defense. Most of the allergens are in the form of proteins. These proteins are presented to the body defense cells known as lymphocytes. These cells will then release certain chemicals resulting in allergic reaction on the skin which manifests as various types of rashes.

Sometimes antigens might be presented to the lymphocytes internally. For example rashes which occur due to certain medications or due to certain food are mainly due to reaction which occurs in the body. The lymphocytes throughout the body are stimulated resulting rashes all over the body.

Most common type of skin rash includes:

• Eczema: it is usually dry and is very itchy.

• Contact dermatitis due to irritants is caused when the skin comes in contact with certain chemicals, or detergents.

• Contact dermatitis due to allergens is caused when skin comes in contact with allergens like the jewelry around the neck or fingers.

Prevention of rashes is fairly simple and direct. One needs to avoid all contact with the allergens or irritants. The simplest measures like wearing gloves when handling a detergent which causes rashes, will protect your skin. Other measures includes wearing a mask while travelling, this is especially useful if you are allergic to certain pollens. Similarly wearing a long sleeved cloth will protect your skin on your arms coming into contact with any allergen. If you have allergy due to food or medication you should immediately stop them and consult your doctor. It is important to know that these skin rashes are the primary skin of body reaction against allergens if this is not stopped the whole body goes into a shock like condition due to reaction to the allergens. If you have a skin rash due to allergy does not scratch as it only makes the symptom worse. You can put some ice on the area of rash. This decreases the blood supply to the area thus decreasing the lymphocytes reducing the severity of the symptom.

Cold Sores and Staff Infection

Cold  sores  are a result of infection with the herpes simplex 1 virus. This is a viral infection that once you have contracted stays in your system for life. The only treatments available are antiviral management, because there is no cure.

A person who suffers from atopic dermatitis should be extremely cautious around anyone with a cold  sore . Atopic dermatitis, better known as eczema, is rashes and irritations on the skin caused by any number of environmental allergies. This condition causes very itchy dry patches of skin that can break open and are prone to secondary infection from scratching. Studies have shown that patients with eczema are more likely to carry stash on their skin than those who do not.

The herpes simplex virus can spread rapidly in a person with atomic dermatitis. This can cause an infection known as eczema herpetic. It can spread over the whole body or remain localized in areas of active eczema outbreak. This situation should be monitored very carefully by a medical professional.

Herpes virus is very contagious and the spreading capability increases in the person who has eczema. The virus can spread over the whole body very quickly leaving you open to secondary infections and especially staph. As noted above the eczema carrier is also more apt to have the staph already present on their  skin , thus when scratching  sores  or rashes, the staph can penetrate and make a bad situation even worse.

If you have eczema and been exposed to the herpes simplex virus, it is important that you see your doctor immediately. They may want to start you on an antiviral medication sooner rather than later to ward off a potential outbreak.

Signs that you may be getting a herpiticum outbreak will include blisters,  sores  within the areas of eczema. These tiny blisters will soon pop and spread the virus at an alarming rate. There is a chance of fatality if not treated properly. You may feel tired or feverish and notice some swelling in the area of the rash.

It is important to note even if you are not overly concerned for yourself, you should be concerned for your family and coworkers. The virus is very contagious and should be treated immediately. Besides early treatment can lessen the severity and duration of your outbreak.

In very severe cases, your doctor may prescribe a bleach bath to kill the bacteria. However, this should never be undertaken without a doctor’s advice as the wrong dilution can cause severe problems. Phototherapy and laser therapy are also alternative therapies that your doctor or dermatologist may consider.

The main thing to remember is prevention is better than cure, use good hand washing practices and keep yourself healthy. When you are run down your immune system becomes compromised and less able to fight off infection and the herpes particles.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a significant problem for dermatologists in the US. Over 7 million people suffer from this chronic skin condition and it affects both women and men of all ages.

Recent research indicates that Psoriasis may be caused by liver dysfunction and may also be related to immune system functions. Generally patches of inflamed red skin called plaques characterize symptoms. While these are the most visible symptoms Psoriasis causes significant discomfort due to pain, itching, limited joint mobility and depending on the affected area, it may also cause emotional distress.

Human blood contains T-cells, which normally protect the body against disease. Research indicates that in Psoriasis victims these T-cells are over-active and become responsible for excessive skin cell reproduction resulting in the plaques.

Symptomatic treatment of this disease results in destroying the excessive skin production caused by malfunctioning T-Cells. This is done by use of Ultra Violet light, which can destroy these excessive growths. The process of destroying these skin cells is called Apoptosis and is included by many doctors as a treatment option.

Many alternative therapies are also available and widely publicized. These include the use of Dead Sea salts and soaps with high salt content to purging liver treatments. None of these have been proven conclusively effective in removing the symptoms entirely. Because of the chronic nature of this condition and its often painful symptoms, patients often tire of non medical intervention and seek help from doctors.

Phototherapy treatments for Psoriasis can be done using UVB and UVA light. For most mild to moderate cases doctors generally elect to use UVB Narrow Band Spectrum treatments. Current knowledge of these treatments suggests that these Narrow Band UVB (NBUVB) treatments have better results than Broad Band treatment options.

When UVA light is used, doctors include topical and oral administration of a drug called Psoralen. This drug improves skin sensitivity to UVA light and improves the effectiveness of the treatments. While the disease may not be entirely curable, such treatments provide significant symptomatic relief to patients suffering from Psoriasis.

Foot Fungus

Foot fungus affects millions of people. It is caused by an infection that develops under the nail. It usually starts with the big toe and can spread from there to the other toes. If left untreated the nail will harden and then fall off. On the foot the infection can be itchy and irritating. If you are one of the millions who suffer from foot fungus, then this article may offer you some solutions. You may recognize some as things you have tried, while others may be new. There are home remedies as well as over the counter and prescription medicines all designed to fight foot fungus.

Foot fungus and toenail fungus are caused by the same thing. The only difference is what the infection attacks, the skin or the nail. Toenail fungus often appears in people who already have athletes foot, or have had it in the past. Athlete’s foot is just another word for fungus. It gets its name because the locker room where the athletes are is one of the most common places for the infection to be spread. This is why you should always wear something on your feet, shoes or flip flops, when in the locker room. This is especially important in the shower area where it is damp and wet all the time, the perfect breeding ground for fungus. It only takes one infected athlete to give foot or toenail fungus to the whole team.

While it is important to wear shoes in the locker room, those shoes are part of the reason that the fungus spreads to begin with. The warm moist environment inside a sock and shoe is perfect for a fungus to grow. So if you already have the fungus, it is important to keep your socks clean and dry, even if it means changing them throughout the day. Also spend time without shoes to allow your feet to dry out completely.

Tea tree oil is a natural infection fighter that can be used against foot fungus. Use a cotton swab to apply it to the affected nail three times a day. You can also use Listerine to fight the fungus. It is meant to kill germs and bacteria in your mouth and there is no reason why it wont work on your feet. Pour enough in a bowl or pan so that you can soak your feet in it for several minutes at a time. The advantage of the soaking is that it allows the solution to get up under the nail where the fungus is hiding. Apple cider vinegar is another choice for soaking. Try it for fifteen minutes per day.

For any of these remedies, be sure not to stop as soon as the infection seems to have cleared up. You must continue for at least a week or two because the fungus is very good at going dormant and waiting for you to stop treatment so that it can start spreading again. With patience and persistence, you can rid yourself of aggravating foot fungus.

Allergies And Allergy Symptoms

In this news peace by the Holistic medical community we discus the allergies. It is not the foreign substance or organism itself that causes this but your body’s own immune system overreacting. Usually this is an overreaction to histamine, a chemical that the body releases to fight microbial invaders.

Hay fever season

One of the most common allergies is to pollen – Hay fever. But many people react to many different everyday substances. The reactions include sneezing, runny nose, wheezing, swelling or puffiness around the eyes, skin rash, hives, asthma or headaches.

Common “solutions” don’t work very often

The conventional handling of allergies is by taking decongestants and antihistamines. Decongestants open clogged nasal passages and have a drying action. Antihistamines suppress the body’s release of histamine.

But both of these are handling only the symptoms of the allergies, not addressing the cause, which is a confused immune system. And both have side affects: Decongestants can cause insomnia and raise blood pressure, Antihistamines may cause drowsiness.

Your diet and quality nutrition is an important factor

Another important factor to allergies is malnutrition. If your diet is lacking basic and vital nutrients you are more susceptible to allergies. Persons suffering from allergies have been found to be woefully deficient in every body requirement except carbohydrates, and when the missing nutrients are supplied, the allergies often disappear.

A healthy cell can prevent harmful substances from entering them. A lack of almost any nutrient, however, increases cell permeability, so valuable nutrients can leak from the cells and toxic material passes into them. Ensure a well balanced diet is followed, high in raw and unprocessed foods, fresh fruit and vegetables especially those high in vitamin C.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is very important to a healthy diet and one becomes particularly susceptible to allergens when your body doesn’t have enough Vitamin C. Vitamin C decreases the permeability of cells. It has a powerful anti-histamine action and detoxifies foreign substances entering the body. Typical dosages can be up to 1,000 milligrams of vitamin C with Bioflavonoids three times a day.

The only known side effect of Vitamin C is occasional Diarrhoea if you take too much. So if you develop diarrhoea, cut back on your dosage until you find the correct level for you. Recent scare stories in the press have warned of mega high dosages of Vitamin C. We know of dozens of other stories which strongly recommend taking vitamin C supplements.

Garlic and Onion should be added to the diet in generous amounts. These plants have high concentrations of compounds such as quercitin, which retard inflammation reactions so may be of benefit Garlic is a wonderful boost and fights off infection and helps maintain a healthy heart.

Best PMS Treatment for Irritability and Mood Swings

Ask any woman what the worst part about PMS is, and she won’t say the cramping, or the nausea, or even the headaches. After all, these are just physical ailments – and there are plenty of pharmaceutical drugs to tackle these problems (if only for an hour or two).

No, the worst part about PMS is not having PMS treatment for irritability and mood swings!

Let’s face it – women everywhere believe that there’s no magical treatment for the irritability, moodiness and depression that accompanies other PMS symptoms. They believe that they simply have to “put up with it”, thus risking alienating their friends and families with the sudden change in their moods.

Or do they?

When it comes to the best PMS treatment for irritability and mood swings, don’t look to pharmaceutical drugs for comfort. Instead, let Mother Nature provide you with the right answers!

The Vitamin B’s Knees!

You know just how important it is to fill your diet with major vitamins like C, E, D and K-1. But one little known vitamin is Mother Nature’s answer for the best PMS treatment: the B vitamins.

Otherwise known as vitamin B-1, B-2 and B-6, these powerful and potent vitamins certainly pack a PMS-busting punch. In fact, these vitamins are known to raise the brain’s level of serotonin, otherwise known as our “happy” chemical. When our serotonin levels are up, our moods reflect it: we feel happier, more relaxed, and less irritated by the things that tend to bring out the worst of PMS symptoms.

Additionally, when our serotonin levels are up, our body is able to better process pain, such as the cramping, headaches and nausea sensation that women feel during their menstrual cycle. Thanks to these neat little vitamins, not only will your mood be on the up and up…

…You’ll barely notice a single pain during your menstrual cycle!

Increase Vitamin B’s Potency with These Herbs and Minerals

If you really want to see the benefits of vitamin B-1, B-2 and B-6, then take it in an easy-to-swallow nutritional supplement that combines it with powerful herbs and minerals, like Period Vitamin.
