Overcoming Health Anxiety – 3 Mistakes You Must Avoid

Overcoming health  anxiety  will be much easier if you can avoid some of the most common mistakes made by people trying to do so. So what follows are 3 of the most damaging and common mistakes you should do your very best to avoid:

1) Don’t Google Your Symptoms:

People with health  anxiety  will often Google their symptoms – by that I mean they will look for more information online about a particular feeling or symptom they may be suffering from. Even though this is done with good intentions, it almost always ends in disaster.

This is simply because people with health  anxiety  will typically continue to research their symptoms until they find something that backs up their worst fears. So anything reassuring they find will be dismissed in favour of the pessimistic discoveries.

To break this habit of researching your symptoms online, begin to limit how much time you allow yourself to do this. Make the reductions small to begin with, so they are easy to stick to.

And then slowly, over time, reduce the amount of time to zero.

You’re much more likely to stick to a slow, steady reduction like this when compared to going “cold turkey.”

2) Don’t Look For Reassurance From Friends & Family:

When you have health  anxiety  and you develop a physical symptom that worries you, it’s understandable that you want to tell someone and have then reassure you that it’s nothing serious.

But problems can develop when you do this too often with friends and family members.

It’s impossible to understand health  anxiety  unless you’ve experienced it firsthand, so those you’re closest to will generally not be able to empathise with you or your situation.

Approaching friends and family too often with your health worries can often lead to them becoming frustrated and angry with you. This tension can rapidly increase and the stress that follows can cause you even further problems and even further physical symptoms.

Your relationships with those you’re closest to can also be damaged if you begin to discuss your health  anxiety  worries with them too often.

The solution to all of these potential problems is to only talk about your health  anxiety  to other people who have – or have had – health  anxiety  themselves.

They’ll understand your situation completely, and they’ll also be able to offer you the reassurance you’re looking for.

3) Don’t Ask Yourself How You Feel:

If you have health  anxiety  then you probably ask yourself how you feel hundreds of times more often than someone who does not. This can lead to you noticing even the slightest physical sensations that most people would never notice or be aware of.

And then when you notice a physical symptom you’ll begin to monitor it obsessively, constantly asking yourself it feels worse or if it feels better.

People who do not have health  anxiety  simply to not think like this, so it should be your goal to stop this way of thinking.

The best first step to take to stop this kind of thinking is to give yourself routines and tasks to complete at the times of the day when your mind is most likely to wander onto the subject of, “How do I feel?”

One of the times this is most likely to happen is first thing in the morning when you wake up. The first thing on your mind, every morning, may be, “How do I feel?”

The best way to stop this is to get up immediately and get right into a pre-planned routine to stop yourself having time to let this train of thought develop.

So have a shower, make breakfast, get dressed, and if you have any free time then fill it with something – cleaning, exercising, anything to stop yourself from having a mind that’s free to wander.

Try to implement a similar strategy at all times of the day that you’re likely to slip into asking yourself how you feel.

By successfully avoiding these 3 common mistakes you’ll massively increase your chances of overcoming health  anxiety .

Hypnotherapy for Insomnia: A Successful Last Resort?

Insomnia is a very common problem among individuals in the UK. More than half of the adults in the UK suffer from some form of a sleep disorder. The inability to fall asleep will often make individuals turn to prescription drugs, which will aggravate the issue even further by creating a form of dependence.

Do you suffer from sleep problems?

Do you wake up feeling even more tired than when you went to sleep?

You are not alone!

Insomnia can be treated easily and efficiently, as long as you understand the cause and you figure out which treatment option will be most adequate for your needs.

Several factors contribute to sleep disorders. Many people are having problems because of chronic stress. Stress drains out the body and leads to emotional distress. Additionally, stress makes it very difficult to fall asleep, which creates a vicious circle.

Food habits, long television hours in the evening and anxiety caused by relationship issues will contribute to sleep disorders as well. Understanding the cause of insomnia and introducing the right lifestyle changes can help you overcome the problem completely.

Relax

It is important to learn how to relax after a long day at the office. Many people carry the stress home, keep it inside and find themselves incapable of resting adequately. Breathing exercises will decrease the tension, promoting proper relaxation. Several studies confirm the fact that breathing exercises and meditation will decrease the level of stress significantly. Once stress is dealt with, you will find yourself capable of falling asleep quickly and of enjoying quality sleep.

Redesign

Redesigning your bedroom is another great way of enjoying better sleep. For a start, throw the television set out of the bedroom. This room is designed for sleep and relaxation. Remove all the items that will interfere with the main purpose. Too much light and clutter will interfere with sleep. Make sure that the room is well-ventilated before you go to bed.

Lifestyle changes are a great start of the process. To achieve even better results, you can try a treatment like hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis

Severe insomnia sufferers will get instant relief after a few sessions of hypnotherapy. Hypnosis will “teach” your mind how to relax, how to let go of the worries and to overcome stress. Knowing how to handle such negative thoughts and emotions will give you the peace of mind needed to fall asleep as soon as you go to bed.

Mankind has known and used hypnosis for many centuries. The word originates from the Greek “hypnos,” which means “sleep.” Hypnosis and deep sleep, however, are two different things. In its essence, hypnosis is a state of complete awareness and full relaxation. A person enters a state of thorough relaxation that allows the sub-consciousness to become more receptive. The therapist will provide the sub-consciousness with the “tools” that it will need to overcome anxiety, stress and other causes of insomnia.

Although insomnia is a very common problem, many people are still finding themselves incapable of discovering the most adequate treatment.

Are you one of the individuals that finds it difficult falling asleep? Do you long for satisfying and rejuvenating sleep hours? Hypnotherapy together with relaxation techniques and lifestyle changes could help you reach the goal of totally overcoming the problem.

Rheumatism and Arthritis – What’s the Difference?

Rheumatism and arthritis are two bone and muscle diseases that people refer to almost interchangeably. Generally speaking, most people do not really see the difference. After all, both diseases manifest the same symptoms of recurring pain in joints and muscles. While both conditions can sometimes be unbearably painful and afflict older men and women, they are in fact different.

Rheumatism does not refer to a single disease or condition, but to over a 100 conditions based on the location and characteristics of the symptoms. For many years, rheumatism was the generic term used to describe various painful medical conditions related to bones, muscles, joints and tendons, until doctors began to use the term arthritis to describe joint-related ailments.

By definition, arthritis is a disease of the bone joints, where two or more bones come together and connect. When joints begin to show signs of redness, tenderness, and sensitivity to pain, then you are likely to be experiencing arthritis. Rheumatism, on the other hand, affects not just joints, but also bones, ligaments and other vital organs of the body, including heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver. In this context, all arthritis types are forms of rheumatism, while rheumatism is not always arthritis.

The cure and treatment for different types of arthritis or rheumatism depends on certain conditions. Doctors underscore the need for specific treatment for specific cases of arthritis and rheumatism. After all, the different types of arthritis and rheumatism are triggered by many factors, including food, allergens, genetics, and obesity. Among the most common types of rheumatic diseases are ankylosing spondylitis, fibromyalgia, lupus, scleroderma, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, polymyalgia rheumatica, bursitis, tendinitis, vasculitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and complex regional pain syndrome.

On the other hand, the most common cases of arthritis, an ailment characterized by joint related pain, stiffness, inflammation and damage, are rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, juvenile arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, infectious arthritis, gout and pseudogout. Just like rheumatism, each type of arthritis requires a separate and distinct treatment. Despite these distinctions, people continue to use the terms interchangeably. Such a lack of knowledge has potentially painful, if not dangerous, consequences for arthritic and rheumatic sufferers, whose best chances to stop the progression of both diseases are when they are just starting to manifest the painful symptoms.

Arthritis and rheumatism inflict the most pain on people who fail to recognize the cause of their affliction and, therefore, are unable to immediately follow the doctor’s advice to control both diseases through a balanced, low-uric acid and high-fiber diet, regular exercise, and medication.

Natural Nail Fungus Remedies – Do They Work?

There are countless nail fungus treatments, natural essential oils and other compounds that people claim are effective in curing nail fungus. I have personally tried numerous natural nail fungus treatments (remedies) with varying degrees of success. Below is a list of remedies that I have tried and their outcome.

Oregano oil

Oregano is touted to be extremely anti fungal and cures nail fungus as well as other internal fungus conditions if taken orally. I tried oregano oil topically on my nails some years back. It was advised that a mixture of oregano and olive oil helps the oregano soak deep into the nail where nail fungus hides. To assist the oregano oil, I filed my nails down as close as possible to allow better penetration. I used a 3 to 1 ratio of oregano to olive oil for about a year. It seemed to kill some of the fungus and left a slightly green color in my nails. After a year, I finally gave up and tried something else.

Listerine Mouth Wash

Three of the ingredients in Listerine are anti fungal. Eucalyptol, a natural organic compound found in eucalyptus oil, Alcohol and Thymol. Thymol is derived from cumin and Thyme. I tried Listerine for about six months with some success. The nail fungus was not completely being killed especially in the outer part of the nail. After about six months of using Listerine, it was not killing the fungus completely, so I used a 50/50 mixture of Listerine and hydrogen peroxide. After about six months of soaking my feet in the mixture twice a day for about fifteen minutes, it was evident that some of the nail fungus was not being killed.

Vinegar

Some people have had success with vinegar so I gave it a try. I used distilled vinegar by itself for a few months with mixed results. I could see it was working a little, but I was getting similar results as the other remedies. So I mixed in a third of Listerine and a third of hydrogen peroxide. Still not a complete success.

Vicks Vapor Rub

I gave up on the other remedies and tried Vicks Vapor Rub. I slathered on this greasy stuff 2-3 times a day. After a month or so, one of my nails came off. I continued to use the Vicks, but the fungus came back.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil seems to have very good success at curing nail fungus according to different resources that I researched. I applied 100% tea tree oil to my toe nails to kill my nail fungus once and for all. After about three days, rashes developed on the skin around my nails and had intense itching. So I read that Lavender oil mixed with the tea tree oil will reduce the harsh effects on the skin. I mixed 50/50 and still had the rashes. Then I used 3-to-1 with no rashes. After about two months treatment, I could tell that the fungus was still growing from the base of the nail. I did notice some success, this did not work for me.

Nonyx Nail Gel

I tried Nonyx after reading some glowing reviews. I filed my nails thin and applied this stuff for a few days. It is very hard to make sure that you don’t get Nonyx on your skin around the nails. My skin around the nails started burning, itching and turning red. This stuff is ethanoic acid and it burned my skin around the nails. I kept on using it while being extremely careful not to allow Nonyx to touch the skin around the nail. After a few more days, it started to burn the skin UNDER the nails. So I quit using this harsh stuff.

Bleach

Bleach is extremely effective with killing fungus. I used a Q-Tip and put a small amount on my nails twice a day. After 3 or 4 days, the skin around my nails started peeling and my toes itched. This stuff was too harsh for my liking.

Lamisil Oral Prescription

I spoke with a podiatrist about Lamisil. He suggested that it may cause kidney and liver damage so I would need to have frequent liver and kidney function tests while using the product. He also said it would take about a year to work. I elected not to risk the health concerns with this treatment.

The only treatment that worked for me was a product called FungiBan ( www.fungiban.com ). After using FungiBan for about four months, I was finally free of nail fungus but I continued to use the product until my nails fully grew out just to make sure.

How to Heal a Sprained Ankle Faster and Better

It’s been widely accepted that a sprained ankle heals slowly and badly. With the traditional treatment known as R.I.C.E. (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation), rehab takes anywhere from 1 -3 months in and 30% of the cases, up to a year or more.

I don’t know of anyone who would choose that kind of time frame to heal a sprained ankle. Not only that, you have to remember that rest and ice do not actually heal anything. The decreased strength, stability and range of motion from the injury will still be there, even after you can walk normally again. For example, most people notice their ankles are noticeably weaker when they try to play sports again.

In addition, weakened ankles are susceptible to further injury and can even cause other physical problems throughout the body, such as knee, hip and low back injuries. In fact, recurring ankle sprains can require surgical intervention. So it’s important not only to heal the sprain but to also strengthen the tendons and ligaments of the ankle.

Isn’t there a faster way?

Through advances in sports medicine, we now know it’s possible to heal an ankle sprain much more quickly and safely, while strengthening the ankle at the same time. Now, healing a sprained ankle can take days instead of months, with the added benefit of stronger ankles.

The 3 Stages of Healing

To understand this, you have to understand how the body heals. First, the body goes through a stage called the inflammation response. The injured area becomes immobilized while the area swells up. Now, most people’s first inclincation is to try and reduce swelling right away. But, ask yourself why? Your body has evolved over millions of years and knows what’s it’s doing. We have found it is best not to get in the way of that…

Instead of hindering the swelling process in the first 48 hours, you want to encourage blood flow. You want to encourage the debris and waste out of the injury while also getting fresh blood and nutrients into the injured area. But, ice and rest can’t do that. In fact, ice has been shown to actually stop the flow of lymphatic drainage and reverse the flow of waste and debris back into the injured area!

In the first 48 hours, the body sends in immune cells to remove the waste and debris and start the healing process. Instead of hindering that natural process, you want to encourage it as much as possible. That is what healthy rehab is all about. Ice stops that natural process, so I do not recommend ice for an injury. Instead, healthy rehab encourages the removal of waste out of the injury.

After the inflammation response has occurred, the body goes into stage two of the healing process, which is called the repair. This is the part where the body sends in a flood of more immune cells to literally repair and regenerate healthy tissue to heal the area. It is absolutely essential that you encourage stage two as well. Again, rest and ice do not do anything for stage two. Obviously, rest is important, but not without rehab too. Safely and gently encouraging the ankle to stretch and grow more stable and strong is the key along with some other important techniques for improving healthy blood flow.

Finally, stage three is called the remodel… this is when the body gets back to full strength and the injury repair is completed. You cannot get to stages two and three until stage one is completed. It is the body’s natural way of healing. Stage three is all about improving strength, stability and range of motion so your ankle gets back to 100%.

Safe, gentle and powerful sprained ankle rehab

To best encourage these three stages of healing, you want to follow a very gentle and safe rehab program. I created the H.E.M. Ankle Rehab System for this purpose, because it can easily be done at home. But, some people will want to go see a physical therapist and that is great too. Just don’t ignore your injury and rely on rest and ice as a healing strategy, because it does not work.

You need to be proactive and rehab your ankle for good results. The good news is that your ankle will heal faster and much better than if you just lay around and wait. That includes increased strength, stability and balance as well as improved range of motion. And that translates into stronger ankles that perform much better and are at a lower risk of a sprained ankle.

Liver Damage From Alcohol – Can It Be Reversed?

The liver is a vital organ and processes the chemicals we put in our bodies. Your liver can take damage from the excessive drinking of alcohol. The question is – can this damage be reversed?

For you to be healthy, your liver has to be functioning properly. The liver performs critical functions such as taking the toxins and harmful chemicals out of your body, blood purification, and the liver also adds nutrients to your system.

Cirrhosis is the result of ongoing damage to your liver. In the early and intermediate stages, the damage is reversible, but since when the liver attempts to repair itself it takes some scarring, with more advanced cirrhosis and the continued consumption of alcohol, cumulative more extensive scarring will ultimately shut down the liver function.

One of the biggest problems related to cirrhosis is it’s not obvious. There are few if any symptoms until the damage is significant and these symptoms include:

– You   bruise  more easily

– Jaundice (yellow in the eyes and skin)

– Weight loss

– You notice you are bleeding more with minor injuries

– You experience a loss of appetite

– Your abdomen area has accumulated fluids

So if you suspect that you may have cirrhosis, seeing a doctor is the first important step, and other steps you can take to stop the damage are:

– The most obvious is to take measures to stop drinking alcohol. A tall order no doubt, but drinking will continue the damage and scarring of the liver.

– Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables. Avoid fatty foods.

– Cut back on salt. It is well known that salt causes your body to retain fluids, and heavy salt use can add to the abdominal swelling (and in some cases with liver damage, there can be fluid retention in the legs also).

– Cut back on any drugs you are taking, and avoid aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen over the counter drugs. Remember, your liver not only has to process the alcohol, but every other drug you take into your system too.

Can liver damage be reversed? The good news is it can be reversed if you haven’t gone into the advanced stages of liver damage where the scarring is so severe from alcohol abuse that the scarring has interfered with the functioning of your liver.

Kettlebell Training For Triathletes

The Western world is gradually listening, receiving and applying simple, primitive and more effective training methods from the archives of the Eastern bloc. Kettlebells (KB’s) have already become the tool of choice for ‘in the know’ strength and power athletes. Joint Mobility (JM), a combination of Qigong and dynamic stretching, has also become one of the most effective warm-ups for any athlete. How can the re-birth of these two timeless protocols benefit triathletes?

Triathletes are a special population due to the fact they are training for three events simultaneously, i.e. swimming, biking, and running. Efficiency is of the utmost importance, especially for Ironman competitors, 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run ALL IN ONE DAY!! Thus, there are many problems these athletes run into throughout the course of their training programs. The most common issues are over-training, weak core, tight hip flexors, tight low back, and stress fractures mainly in the lower leg and small bones of the feet.

This article will address some specific protocols that have been effectively used to correct some major strength and flexibility imbalances of a current client. She is 33 years old and has competed in two Ironman triathlons, as well as many shorter races. When we started working together, nine weeks prior to her second Ironman, she was rebounding from a stress fracture in the femoral head, major quad/ham imbalance, rotator cuff problems (past injuries from swimming on college scholarship), and tight hip flexors.

Through a combination of JM drills and KB’s, she was able to effectively overcome many of these weaknesses in nine short weeks. Every session began with a minimum of ten minutes of joint mobility head-to-toe and then specifically returning to problem areas. Refer to Super Joints (book or DVD) for these exercises: Belly Dance, Cossack, extended Cossack, Bootstrappers, and Split Switches. After a general mobility warm-up, emphasis was on the Wall Squat, essential to recovery and progression of imbalances, weaknesses and mobility of the hip/low back region. Within two weeks, her squat depth had improved four inches due to increased flexibility and relaxation of the hip flexors. This almost immediate improvement led to relaxed bike pedal power, relaxed running and overall increased power and efficiency.

The remainder of each training session revolved around KB training. The foundational movements apply to triathletes as they do for any athlete. Five main KB exercises were used. A healthy dose of swings, cleans, snatches, renegade rows and windmills were the focal point.

Swings teach hip and hamstring firing. Most programs neglect to teach athletes in general how to neurologically program their hamstrings which leads to efficiency in biking and running.

Cleans re-teach the hips to fire while simultaneously relaxing the shoulders…crucial during a grueling multi-sport race.

Snatches are an extension of the swing and help ‘re-wire’ the CNS to fire on demand and also adding to overall efficiency.

Renegade Rows are a full body core workout teaching the abdominals stabilize in a ‘relaxed tension’ state instead of mindlessly rowing a weight. This movement transfers to more effective hip stabilization in triathletes while building a solid core.

Windmills work the core at the same time stretching the glute/hamstring complex while maintaining mental awareness of the upper body, once again engaging the ENTIRE body to work as a unit vs. a collection of body parts.

These five exercises revolve around everything that a triathlete is looking for: increasing core strength without increasing muscle mass, and increasing work capacity while maintaining aerobic efficiency (relaxed tension).

Treating the body as a ‘unit’ vs. a collection of body parts–which leads to increased efficiency–is crucial for triathletes. Kettlebells fill the void where traditional strength training lacks, effective strength workouts in minimal time. Ask any triathlete: his/her last priority is strength training. However, every triathlete is interested and understands the benefits of “core” training and the Party knows what the MOST EFFECTIVE core-training tool is: kettlebells. Help your fellow triathlete comrades by showing them these intricate Party Protocols. They will surely thank you!

How Does Acid Base Balance Affect Your Digestion?

The health of the human being depends upon proper functions of human cells. Each cell of the living organism breathes, eats, multiplies, thrives, and releases a metabolic wastes. These wastes usually are acidic. Myriads’ of the microorganisms coexist together with human cells producing a lot of acidic waste too. All foods metabolize in the human body and create acidic substances. End products of the digestion of the proteins are amino acids; fats are fatty acids and end products of the carbohydrates are the lactic or carbonic acids.

On the other hand, human blood pH is constant, slightly alkaline -7.4. Any changes in the blood pH lead to break down of the heart, lungs and brain, hence lead to death of the entire organism.

Kidney, lungs, liver, pancreas and most organs and systems take enormous effort to keep constant slightly alkaline -7.4 in the blood by removing acidic substances. In additional, human blood has bicarbonate buffer and minerals, which neutralize acids to preserve the life.

The problems arise when, first, too much acidity is produced inside the body and, second, when organs, which are responsible for removing acidic chemicals, get sick and weak. If it happens, acidity collects in the body.

Whole body acidity has medical name it is called metabolic acidosis. Scientists sound alarm because metabolic acidosis grows in epidemic proportion in the last decades causing many chronic diseases, aging, and cancer. We cannot blame our genes. The main reasons for chronic metabolic acidosis are consumption of the acid-forming foods, alcohol, some medications, environmental and internal toxicity, Candida-yeast overgrowth, SIBO, chronic infections, sedentary life-style, etc.

The worse damage whole body acidity creates to main alkaline digestive glands, for instance, liver and pancreas. Liver produces alkaline bile, pancreas manufactures pancreatic juice that is the most alkaline solution in the body. Changes of the body’s acid-base balance toward the acidity lead to acidic biochemical changes in the bile and pancreatic juice and numerous chronic digestive disorders.

It is known, from basic chemistry that more acidity means less alkalinity and vice versa. We can determine the acid-base balance of the solution by measurement of the pH. More than 7.0 means alkalinity, pH less than 7.0 shows acidity.

If alkalinity of the pancreatic juice drops less than 7.0, digestion stops because pancreatic digestive enzymes work only in alkaline condition. Pancreatic digestive enzymes digest more than half of proteins and carbohydrates, 90% of fats. Indigested food collects in the gut. It is fermented by bacteria and yeasts causing gas, bloating, abdominal cramps, pains and also it produces several toxins. Body tries to get rid of these toxic, indigested foods chunks through the way to mouth causing fullness, nausea, vomiting, heartburn. If these indigested foods go down, they bring about diarrhea, constipation, flatulence, inflammation and abdominal pain. Usually, indigestion also leads to shortage of the essential substances and vitamins.

To say more, acidic bile and pancreatic juice become extremely aggressive, they irritate ducts, sphincter of Oddi, duodenum causing wrong traffic ways – refluxes. This, in turn, creates strong spasmodic contractions of the ducts and duodenum and moves extremely irritated combination of the acidic bile and pancreatic juice up to the stomach or even to esophagus. It can cause inflammation, ulcers, severe heartburn, and cancers. Wrong reflux of the acidic bile into the pancreatic duct is the huge reason for pancreatitis.

How can we normalize acid-base balance? It can be done normally only by supplying the body with minerals and bicarbonate by alkaline foods, healing mineral water, and cellular magnesium-potassium. Many practical advises on this topic can be found in my EBook, Healthy Pancreas, Healthy You.

There is pretty much information about alkaline diet but drinking healing mineral water almost unknown to American public. Contrary, Europeans drink mineral water either in healing mineral spas or at home by using genuine Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt for hundreds of years.

Small town in the Czech Republic, Karlovy Vary attracted people by its healing thermal spring water for more than 500 years. Millions of Europeans with digestive, liver disorders and metabolic diseases such as diabetes, gout, obesity improved their health with this water. More than 200 years ago, Karlovy Vary water is vaporizes to make salt that has minerals, trace elements, and bicarbonate. Dissolving this salt in the water makes the easy way to drink Karlovy Vary healing mineral water at home. Water by itself is good regulator of acid-base balance.

Numerous medical papers mostly on Czech, German, and Russian support the beneficial effect of this water in many digestive and metabolic disorders.

Another way to get essential minerals such as cellular magnesium potassium is taking them as mineral supplements. Deficiency of the cellular magnesium, potassium is a common cause of whole body acidity; on the other hand, these minerals promote alkalinity of the bile and pancreatic juice.

All cleansing techniques such as colon hydrotherapy, herbs, infrared sauna, massage, drinking fresh vegetable blends and juices help to eliminate toxins and normalize acid-base balance – the vital aspect of health and certainly, proper digestion.

Alternative Medicine for Chronic Diarrhea After Gallbladder Removal

People usually don’t like to talk about their bathroom issues, but for some it is an enormous problem. These days up to two billion people have diarrhea in one year – a colossal number. Diarrhea usually is not a sickness itself; it is a symptom of many harmful processes in our digestive system. Some people may experience a chronic diarrhea, which happens when diarrhea persists for more than two weeks, and there are more than 3 watery bowel movements daily.

This article focuses on chronic diarrhea after gallbladder removal. Why do many folks suffer from it? Is there non-drug, alternative medicine approach for this nasty condition?

The medical expression for the gallbladder removal surgery is cholecystectomy. This type of diarrhea is a symptom of the postcholecystectomy syndrome; disorder that often includes pain, gas, bloating, bile reflux, etc.

First let’s focus on unpleasant things. Even brilliant operation technique and surgical experience cannot prevent this complication after the gallbladder removal surgery. Statistically, approximately 10% of people without gallbladder sooner or later will have chronic diarrhea. In the US 700,000 gallbladders are removed annually, so we have a large number of sufferers with that issue after the surgery.

According to medical literature there is no cure for this disorder, there are just medications to control diarrhea. Even professionals recognize that cause of diarrhea after gallbladder removal is unknown. Anyhow, doctors call chronic diarrhea after gallbladder removal as “bile acids” diarrhea because bile acids are the culprit. Bile acids are essential parts of the bile.

Bile is produced by the liver and goes into the gallbladder for storage. When semi digested foods, come from the stomach into the first part of the small intestine-duodenum, gallbladder contracts. It pushes the bile through the bile duct and sphincter of Oddi into the duodenum to digest fatty foods.

Our body uses bile acids from the bile as detergent to make fat droplets smaller. It helps pancreatic enzyme lipase split up the fats on glycerol and fatty acids, which can be absorbed throughout the gut wall. This is a little complicated, but without understanding, it is difficult to realize how to get help.

In the normal situation, when bile is alkaline, bile acids are soluble. Any abnormal acidic changes in bile pH lead to precipitation of the bile acids. The insoluble bile acids are highly aggressive substances, which corrode and irritate gallbladder, bile ducts, sphincter of Oddi, duodenum causing inflammation, ulcers, and eventually cancer. The doctors found more incidence of the colon cancer in humans after gallbladder removal. Acidity of bile and precipitation of the bile acids is the main reason for the development of inflammation and gallbladder stones. There is a lot more medical information about this issue, in my eBook: healthy pancreas, healthy you.

By the way, people lose their gallbladders due to acidic bile causing inflammation and gallbladder stones. Gallbladder keeps bile for a long time; therefore, acidic, aggressive bile acids have more time to cause damage and inflammation. No wonder, gallbladder becomes first and common target for surgical knife.

However, gallbladder removal surgery does not normalize the acid-alkaline condition of the bile. After gallbladder surgery irritation and inflammation persist into liver bile ducts, bile duct, sphincter of Oddi, duodenum. Bile/pancreatic reflux can move this aggressive mixture up to the stomach causing gastritis, persistent heartburn, damage of esophagus, etc. Going down, the bile/pancreatic reflux may cause abdominal pain and diarrhea.

Let’s stop here and think what can make human bodies acidic? Modern food filled with acid-forming products. They are sugars, meats, grains, milk, alcohol, and unhealthy fats. Besides that, antibiotics in the food and as medication kill friendly intestinal flora; therefore, allow yeast and bacterial overgrowth in the gut. In turn, this creates constant fermentation and produces many acidic substances.

Therefore, keeping alkaline bile is extremely beneficial for people without gallbladder.

There are three natural ways to do that: eat alkaline diet, take alkaline minerals, and drink alkaline healing mineral water. Drinking healing mineral water is very popular in Europe.

Surgeons have performed cholecystectomy for 150 years. Hence, doctors knew the consequences’ of the gallbladder surgeries such as pain, indigestion, and diarrhea since that time. European doctors have recommended drinking healing mineral water for hundreds of years. The small town Karlovy Vary was a sacred place for people with gallbladder, liver, and pancreas disorders. Europeans drank this water from thermal spring or prepared it from vaporized geyser salt at home, for more than 250 years. Many articles and books in German, Czech, and Russian support the healing action of the Karlovy Vary healing mineral water after gallbladder removal.

Drinking healing mineral water prepared from genuine Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt can have a few beneficial actions. Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt can:

• Supply the body with alkaline minerals, bicarbonate and trace elements, which are essential parts of bile and pancreatic juice

• Make bile liquid and alkaline, so it will be less aggressive

• Decrease spasms of the sphincter of Oddy (sphincter of Oddy dysfunction)

• Decrease bile/pancreatic reflux

• Normalize stool

• Promote proper digestion

This is safe and effective natural remedy for persons with postcholecystectomy syndrome, but it requires time to reach the positive results. I suggest keeping track of saliva and urine pH at home to see the changes. Saliva and urine pH are window for us to see inside the body’s acid-alkaline balance. “I eat healthy”, “I don’t drink alcohol”, “I exercise”, I hear often from my patients. They are actually surprised when their saliva and urine pH are less than 6.6 (acidic state).

Acidity, medical name is chronic metabolic acidosis, is rampant now. Nowadays, nutritional experts consider that metabolic acidosis is the core of various digestive and metabolic disorders.

Another natural way to neutralize acidity in the body is taking the alkaline mineral supplements. The best for this job is cellular magnesium-potassium.

Exacerbation of the chronic diarrhea after gallbladder removal hugely depends upon dysbiosis (Candida-yeast overgrowth and/or Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO). Antibiotics and some other medications, poor eating habits, heavy metals toxicity, and alcohol disrupt normal microbial balance inside the small and large intestines.

When the friendly intestinal flora is not present, the opportunistic infection such as harmful bacteria, yeast, and parasites take over gastrointestinal tract. By medical research, dysbiosis leads to precipitation of the bile acids consequently worsens chronic diarrhea.

Contrary the common believe, eating yogurt and taking low quality probiotics usually cannot restore the natural balance between friendly intestinal flora and opportunistic infection. Using antibiotics and antifungal agents cannot restore the proper, natural balance in the gut. “Kill and destroy” approach is not for this case.

Restoration of the friendly intestinal flora is the time-consuming process that includes healthful diet, colon hydrotherapy, drinking healing mineral water prepared from genuine Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt, taking the proven quality of probiotics and nutritional supplements. Colon hydrotherapy by flushing colon can eliminate bile acids, establish an environment for beneficial bacteria to reside there.

The Purpose of Menstruation

For many women, menstruation is one of the most annoying things about being female. However, your period represents vitality and fertility, and it prepares your body to create new life through a fertilized egg. Menstruation is a very important and very visible part of the overall menstrual cycle experienced by women over the course of 28 days.

Menstruation, commonly called a period, is often preceded by things like cramps, bloating, constipation, and irritability. Some women suffer from premenstrual syndrome, or PMS, which includes extreme moodiness. On the other hand, some women have reported an increase in energy, sexual drive, and feelings of relief before the start of their periods.

First, it is important to understand the source of the blood from menstruation. One of the important internal female reproductive components is the uterus. The uterus is where an egg implants so that a baby can grow and develop inside the womb. As hormones promote the development and release of eggs, they also stimulate the thickening of the uterine lining. This prepares the uterus to receive a fertilized egg.

After ovulation, an egg lives for about 12-24 hours while it waits to meet sperm. If it is not fertilized and implanted in the uterus, then other hormones cause the uterus to shed its lining. This is the blood in menstruation. Most women’s periods last 3-7 days as the lining is lost and then rebuilt. This shedding and rebuilding allows for the uterus to stay fresh and nourishing for any potential pregnancy.

With oral contraceptives, the hormones in these pills can help you regulate your period. However, some of the hormones in birth control can disrupt other important organs in your body. Birth control pills like YAZ, Yasmin, and Ocella have been linked to problems like stroke, heart attack, and gallbladder problems.

Understanding Gastric Ulcer

Increasingly larger numbers of people are diagnosed with digestive disorders these days, most of them requiring hospitalization and careful monitoring.  Ulcer  is a very common digestive disorder, involving inflammation or tare at certain levels of the gastrointestinal tract. Gastric  ulcer  involves a breach in the tissue that surrounds the stomach, while duodenal  ulcer  involves a breach in the tissue that surrounds the duodenum.  Ulcer  may also occur at the level of the esophagus or other organs of the gastrointestinal tract.

Gastric  ulcer  occurs due to excessive secretion of hydrochloric acid and pepsin, which eventually damage the protective tissue that surrounds the stomach. The presence of bacteria called Helicobacter pylori also contributes to developing gastric  ulcer . Furthermore, the  ulcer  is aggravated by the misuse of certain anti-inflammatory medicines, such as aspirin or ibuprofen. In the past, it was thought that emotional distress was also a cause of gastric  ulcer . However, this theory has been contradicted by recent medical research results. On the other hand, physical stress and insufficiencies can facilitate the development of gastric  ulcer  (people that experience medical surgeries are more susceptible to acquiring forms of gastric  ulcers  than normal people).

Statistics indicate that people with ages over 55 are more exposed to developing forms of gastric  ulcer . Also, smoking persons are more affected by gastric  ulcer  than non-smoking persons. Smoking seriously affects  ulcer , slowing the natural healing process and decreasing the potency of medication. Also, the abuse of alcohol and caffeine seriously aggravate  ulcer . It is important to keep away from such beverages and focus instead on establishing and keeping a healthy diet that may relief the symptoms of gastric  ulcer  and may also increase the efficiency of the medical treatment prescribed. The diet should contain healthy foods that aren’t likely to increase gastric acidity. Physicians recommend eating several moderate meals a day and respecting an eating schedule.

Most gastric  ulcer  symptoms are abdominal pain and sourness, the aggravation of abdominal distress on the empty stomach, amelioration of pain when eating, indigestion, nausea, vomiting and presence of blood in the vomit, presence of blood in feces, black stools, fatigue, poor appetite and weight loss.

If undiscovered or mistreated, gastric  ulcer  can lead to complications like bleeding  ulcer  or perforate  ulcer . These two forms of  ulcer  are considered to be very dangerous and even life-threatening. Endoscopic therapy can keep bleeding  ulcer  under control and sometimes it proves to be a good alternative to surgery. In case people don’t present considerable amelioration of the disorder through the means of endoscopic therapy and oral treatment, surgery might be the only option left for attempting to correct the  ulcer .

Gastric Ulcer in Racehorses

Most recent studies have discovered a much higher incidence of stomach ulceration in performance horses then it was earlier recognized. In spite of the gastric lesions only some of the horses will develop actual stomach ulcer.

According to clinical and Para clinical studies, older or more time trained horses are more susceptible to make stomach ulcer. First clinical symptoms are loss of weight, low appetite and bad physical performances.

In order to establish a certain diagnosis, the veterinarian must perform an endoscopy of the horse stomach; the procedure requires a three meter long endoscope.

As forage feeders, horses secrete hydrochloric acid continuously in the wild and with few higher peaks in horse stables; as they usually graze 24 hours a day, the lack of food between meals in captivity can easily lead to ulcerations. The high amount of HCl in the stomach is believed to be causing ulcer.

While eating, salivary glands secrete bicarbonate-rich saliva which like food itself tends to tamponate the excess of acid. During the lack of food supplies acid levels increase again and harass the gastric mucous membrane produced by mucous glands for protection.

Best managerial solution is to allow the horses a 24 hours access to hay between grain meals. Depending on the season horses are fed in stables with meadow, Lucerne, long stick oat hay, or they are let free to pasture. In spite of the care-takers reservations, full-time access to hay did not disturb the horses’ appetite for grains. This strategy has shown less clinical manifestations of gastric problems and less worries for the owner.

24 hours right to use hay in stables, has also proven a decrease of several problems in the behavior of horses in captivity.

Controlling the use of oral corticosteroids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as phenylbutazone might also be useful as they inhibit the formation of PGE in the stomach. Prostaglandins suppress the production of HCl, increase the blood flow in the mucous layer of the stomach and moderate the secretion of bicarbonate and mucus. Prostaglandins also have the assent to protect the stomach from any kind of physical or chemical aggression.

In first line therapy treatments aspire to reducing the secretion of hydrochloric acid and its effects. Lately only Omeprazole and Ranitidine are accepted by veterinarian associations in treating horses.

Both Omeprazole and Ranitidine are considered to be prohibited before horse racing because of their drug-like properties. Medical treatments containing the two substances may only be made under veterinarian supervision; treatment schedule must always be registered in the stable diary.
