Anorexia Symptoms Include Bone Fractures and Osteoporosis – Calcium Supplements Are Essential

Anorexia symptoms include bone fractures, low bone density and osteoporosis. The condition is typically identified during mid to late adolescence–which is a critical period for bone development. Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by an irrational fear of weight gain and severe restriction of diet and nutrition. While the majority of people with anorexia are female, an estimated 5 to 15 percent of people with anorexia are male.

Anorexia is typically identified during mid to late adolescence, which is a critical period for bone development. Up to one third of peak bone density is achieved during puberty. This is the time when we fill up our bone banks- from which we will make withdrawals later in life. The degree of bone loss seen with anorexia is unique in its severity and anorexia symptoms of bone loss can be detected after only 6 months of illness. Compression fractures and spinal deformity are not uncommon amongst very young patients.

A bone mineral density (BMD) test can detect bone loss before a fracture occurs and indicate the risk of future fractures. However, some studies indicate that changes in bone structure begin well before decreases in bone density reveal themselves through a DXA test. A flat-panel volume CT allows the bones to be examined at higher resolution (with relatively low radiation) for more accurate results.

DIET AND SUPPLEMENTS

While a healthy diet is the best way to maintain healthy bones, it is also the most compromised during anorexia. Calcium and vitamin supplements that include vitamin D, vitamin K and magnesium often prove to be an acceptable alternative because they provide nutrition without causing any weight gain. If a person is eating irregularly or purging during the day, taking a single serving of a comprehensive supplement such as Greens+ Bone Builder may provide an optimal solution until recovery is achieved. Taking the supplement before going to bed will take maximum advantage of the bone renewal that occurs overnight.

EXERCISE

Anorexia is often accompanied by compulsive exercising aimed at burning calories and punishing oneself for eating something “bad”. Weight-bearing exercises are important for bone health but people with anorexia must also consider the risk of fractures. Low impact weight training can help to strengthen the bones if done in moderation rather than as punishment.

ESTROGEN THERAPY

Low body weight can cause women to stop producing estrogen and men to stop producing the testosterone needed for healthy bone development. However, the effectiveness of estrogen replacement therapy in treating anorexia is still unclear. Some studies found that estrogen/progestin replacement and calcium supplementation did not prevent or reverse bone loss, while others found that it prevented bone loss but did not increase bone density. Research is on-going and the appropriateness of the treatment should be discussed with your doctor.

Cerebral Palsy Information

Cerebral Palsy refers to a set of conditions (non-contagious and non-progressive) wherein a brain trauma is adversely affecting a child’s motor skills. The term “cerebral” refers to the brain, particularly the cerebrum, while the term “palsy” refers to the lack of control on muscle movements.

The cause of cerebral palsy remains uncertain even with the advancements of medical technology. But study suggests that it may be a result of brain injury, trauma, or disease before birth (around 75%), during delivery (around 5%), and right after birth and up to three years of age (around 15%). Each year, the United States has an estimate ratio of 1:2 diagnosed children with cerebral palsy in every 1,000 births.

The brain damage during these stages may be due to brain infection like meningitis, asphyxia (deficiency of oxygen before birth and during delivery), head injury or trauma, hypoxia, prematurity, multiple pregnancy, infantile jaundice, stroke, Rh incompatibility, pregnant mothers with infection, low birth weight, and genetic disorder.

There are 4 major classifications of Cerebral Palsy. They are:

1. Spastic – due to muscle stiffness (70-80%)

2. Athetoid or Dyskinetic – due to lack of balance (40%)

3. Ataxic – due to balance disorder and some depth perception difficulties (10%)

4. Mixed – combination of the 2 or 3 classification of cerebral palsy

Symptoms of this illness may include seizures, developmental delays, bone structure deformities, muscle tone and movement abnormalities, mental retardation, speech problems, and infant-like reflex persistence.

Cerebral palsy has no available cure at this moment. But there are some treatments to help improve the condition of the child. This includes occupational therapy, medication regimen, surgery, physical therapy, and more.

Because it may be uncertain to actually point out the causes of cerebral palsy, following certain guidelines and precautions may help prevent the condition. It is best for pregnant mothers to seek proper prenatal care and avoid alcoholic drinks, cigarettes and unnecessary medications. Before pregnancy, get a test for measles immunity. And finally for the baby, routine vaccinations are highly recommended and take safety measures to avoid head injuries.

Treatments for MS Pain – Medical Treatments

When you stop to consider that at least half of all multiple sclerosis patients experience pain during the course of their lives that can be either chronic or acute, it is easy to see why treatments for MS pain are always a hot topic. There is however a great deal of debate as to how to treat the pain successfully and whether drugs should be used or if patients would be better off using more natural pain management techniques.

Pharmacological Treatments for MS Pain

Depending on the doctor, drugs are often used as the first line of defense when it comes to treatments for MS pain. One thing that is known is the pains associated with this disease emanate from the central nervous system and as such cannot be relieved using simple over the counter drugs such aspirin or ibuprofen.

Instead doctors turn to a range of anticonvulsant such as Neurontin and Tergetol that are more frequently used for epilepsy. Doctors are not 100% sure how they stop the pain any more than they are about how they work to stop seizures. It still takes trial and error to find the right drug, the right dosage or the right combination of both. It is worth noting that all of these drugs are being used “off label’ as the FDA has not approved any of them use as treatments for MS pain.

Botox the New Frontier

While those in Hollywood and other locations are sunning themselves and keeping the wrinkles at bay with Botox, researchers are testing it for use in helping with the pains associated with MS. Botox has already been in use for several years to help patients with bladder problems and muscle spasticity. Botox works by temporarily paralyzing a muscle or nerve and in many cases during the course these treatments, medical professionals and patients have both noticed that the use of Botox has also had significant effects on the pain.

More studies are needed to confirm the use of Botox as one of the treatments for MS pain, but to date it has shown great promise for use in limited areas. It will not replace the medications necessarily, but can possibly be used for very specific pains like trigeminal neuralgia. The only problem with many of the current drugs is that they do seem to have a wide range of side effects that can be very unpleasant and occasionally dangerous.

Home Remedies of Strep Throat

Are there home remedies for strep throat?

That depends on what you mean. There are many ways to decrease the symptoms of strep throat, but none to cure it.

Strep throat is a specific type of sore throat caused by the Group A Streptococcus. Some patients become very ill with this infection, whereas others have no sore throat at all. A young child with a fever, stomachache, and a fine sandpapery rash on the abdomen may have strep throat but not even complain of a sore throat. Usually a patient will have red, swollen tonsils and tender swollen glands. Sometimes strep throat causes white spots on the tonsils or tiny red spots on the roof of the mouth.

Why should a person see a doctor for strep throat? The danger of Group A strep throat is the risk of rheumatic heart disease, which sometimes damages the heart valves. Once damaged, the heart valves may become a lifelong problem. Damaged heart valves can cause trouble breathing, leg swelling, and sometimes even wheezing.

If you have the symptoms of strep throat listed above, you should see your doctor. If your symptoms are milder, especially if your sore throat just seems to be a part of a cold, you can treat yourself safely at home.

Often patients forget that sore throats can be treated with pain medication. Acetaminophen, naproxen, and ibuprofen may decrease the discomfort considerably. Aspirin will, too, but should not be used in children under the age of 18 due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome.

Avoiding food with sharp edges, such as potato chips, is a good idea. Soft foods, like ice cream and mashed potatoes, are easier to swallow. Acid foods such as orange juice or lemonade may irritate the throat, as may spicy foods. Cold drinks are soothing for many patients, as are warm liquids such as chicken soup or hot tea.

Gargling with warm salt water may decrease the swelling and pain, but in some people (like me) this causes gagging. Warm tea tastes better and may work equally well.

Lozenges that numb the throat provide relief from superficial irritation, but often the pain is in the deeper tissues or in the glands in the neck. This deep pain responds better to the pain medications listed above.

My favorite treatment is a hot bath and a warm bed. Sleep and sufficient rest allow the body to heal.

Since strep throat is contagious for 24 hours after starting an antibiotic, and since colds are contagious as well, do yourself and your co-workers a favor and stay home a day or two.

What Are the Causes of Frequent Headaches?

There are several causes for frequent headaches, some much more common than others, and even some are unknown to most people. Therefore, if you suffer from frequent headache you should know that sometimes the underlying reason is quite severe and should be treated by your doctor. If you just take an over the counter painkiller, such as ibuprofen or acetominophen, you may get partial relief, but you are not solving the real cause for your frequent headaches.

Usually, the more common health issues that may cause frequent headaches are:

-sinusitis -muscular tension -viral infection -musculo-skeletal conditions

There are some severe health conditions that may cause frequent headaches:

– strokes – meningitis – blood pressure – some brain tumors

Why do these health conditions cause frequent headaches?

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is an inflammation of the nasal passages, therefore pressing the head and producing headaches. The main symptom is pain on the forehead, right above the nose, and/or on the cheek. People who usually suffer from sinusitis usually get relief by using a combination of painkillers and steam treatment that helps clear the nasal blockage. You can heat up some water and put your face over it and inhale. You can add some herbs such as peppermint or eucalyptus, that will soothe the pain. In case the pain persists and your eyes are irritated it’s advisable you see your physician.

Flu

The flu and related health issues can also cause frequent headaches. Issues such as   tonsillitis , chest and lung infections, fever and others can cause frequent headaches. In these cases, headaches are usually accompanied by light sensitivity and tenderness in the muscles. Glaucoma and other eye illnesses may cause headaches as well.

Meningitis

Meningitis produces an inflammation of the membrane that covers the brain. This infection is very severe and should be treated right away. One of the most common meningitis symptoms is a severe, acute and very painful headache. Meningitis at first may get confused with a flu, but if symptoms persist you should go to the hospital immediately.

Migraine

Migraine is another cause for frequent headaches, but it also causes light sensitivity, nausea and vomiting. Migraine is a chronic illness and if you suspect you are suffering from it, seek professional advice to get proper treatment for migraine.

There are many other causes for frequent headache and you should see your doctor to rule out other causes and point out the real reason for your pain. Your doctor will order some exams and perform an extensive physical examination.

What Is Diabetes and Its Complications?

Eleven years ago, the number of Diabetes patients reached a staggering 171 million. People from all parts of the globe are suffering from Diabetes and more people are suffering. The question in everyone’s minds is what is diabetes and how can it be prevented? Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease caused by a very high percentage of sugar inside the body. Due to the inability of the body to create insulin, a lot of people are suffering from this disease. Most of the patients affected by this disease would show cases of Polyuria or frequent urination as well as an increase in hunger and in thirst. Patients who would suffer from the disease would need to control their sugar or else they would definitely suffer. There are actually two types of diabetes. The first one is the insulin dependent type and the second is none insulin dependent type.

So what is diabetes and what are the differences of the two types? The first type is the type 1 or the insulin dependent type. Patients who would suffer from type 1 would usually need an insulin injection and if they would not have their medications, they would surely suffer. The other type is the type 2 version wherein the patient would not need an insulin shot. In type 2, the body is an inability to create insulin due to problems in the cells. Type 2 diabetes is often referred to as the adult onset diabetes. There is actually a third type of diabetes however it only affects pregnant women. Gestational diabetes is a condition wherein women who were once diagnosed with diabetes would have a high glucose level because of their pregnancy. This type of diabetes would then subside after as couple of days after the operation.

Patients who are suffering from the disease would not need to worry since the disease is treatable. Through some maintenance medications coupled with insulin shots, patients would be able to go home after a couple of hours in the hospital. Yet, patients that have a high level of diabetes mellitus would need to have their constant checkup since they may be suffering from problems with their organs. Diabetes can cause retinal damage, chronic renal failure and even cardiovascular diseases. Mild or acute complications include hypoglycemia so the patient would feel very weak and sleepy. Constant visit to the hospital or to a clinical physician is a must.

American Diabetes Association Guidelines

The American  Diabetes  Association is of course the leader in  diabetes  education, information and research. They help to fund research and then publish their findings so that medical professionals and diabetics alike have the accurate information that is needed to better care for themselves or their patients.

The American  Diabetes  Association has developed a set of guidelines that helps physicians to diagnose the several different types of  diabetes  that a patient can have. The guidelines also offer the latest information and goals that diabetic patients need to maintain with their blood glucose levels as well as information that the physicians need to help guide their patients in the proper care and techniques for  diabetes .

Examples of ADA Guidelines – In 2008, the guideline for proper blood glucose levels was 70-130mg/dL before meals and less than 180 mg/dL after meals. This is typically a guideline for adult diabetics as they allow children to maintain higher blood glucose levels.

In 2007, the guideline for  diabetes  diagnosis is that the patient must have a random plasma glucose level of over 200 mg/dL at least twice before a diagnosis could be made; however, with the 2008 ADA guidelines, now you only have to have one random plasma glucose level of over 200 mg/dL before it is recommend to diagnose a patient as a diabetic.

These guidelines are set basically for everything. There are guidelines for pre  diabetes  diagnosis. There are guidelines for recommend A1c test results that are needed. (The hemoglobin A1c test results should be less that 7% is the ADA guideline. This basically means that a blood glucose level of 170 mg/dL or less is recommended. The A1c test is basically an average of blood glucose levels over a three month period of time.)

Carbohydrate intake is the key in maintaining blood glucose level control according to the ADA guidelines. Carbohydrates when broken down by the body turn into sugar. Diabetic patients should limit their carbohydrate intake through carbohydrate counting, exchanges or experience-based estimating. This sounds complicated although it is actually pretty easy once you get the grasp of the concept and it is a great idea for healthy eating for all patients and not just diabetics. ADA guidelines for carbohydrate intake are 130 grams per day.

The Final Word – The American  Diabetes  Association publishes these guidelines on a yearly basis as research and newly developed information can change from year to year. They serve as only a guideline to the physicians and health care providers. Physicians and health care providers can take it upon themselves to adjust the guidelines to fit the needs of their patients.

Diabetes  affects different patients in different ways; therefore, it is hard to say that one set of numbers should work for everyone or that this certain thing should do the trick. Unfortunately, it does not work that way. Health care providers know their patients and can adjust to suit the patients individual needs; therefore, actually providing better results than if they followed the ADA guidelines strictly.

Causes of Obesity in America – Obesity Help

Causes of  obesity  for Americans are easily discerned. The simple facts are that we eat too much of the wrong foods, we eat them in improper manners and we fail to exercise.  Obesity  statistics clearly show that the US is among the very fattest countries on the entire planet – and simultaneously supposed to be the most advanced and intelligent. Hmm.  Obesity  in America continues to increase at record numbers as do  obesity  diseases like diabetes, heart disease, kidney failure, arthritis and many others.

Child  obesity  rates are also skyrocketing. The poor eating habits of parents are being directly transferred to their children – along with the health issues that were once thought to be reserved for adults. Staggering numbers of children and young adults are developing completely preventable diseases as a result of any and all of the following:

Causes of  obesity  in our children:

  • Never being taught about the laws of nutrition;
  • Being “rewarded” with junk foods and fast foods for good behavior;
  • Having parents who are “just too busy” to plan and prepare healthful meals at home;
  • Being allowed to spend hour after hour in front of computer monitors, television screens and video gaming devices instead of being made to participate in regular physical activities;
  • Being permitted to determine their own eating patterns and food selections;

Obesity-based  diseases are killing our society. It is known that over 30% of all Americans are considered overweight and/or obese now. Child  obesity  rates have increased by over 20% since 1980. Over 57 million people in the US are thought to have pre diabetes and over 85% of them are overweight and/or obese. Over 80% of all heart disease patients are overweight and/or obese.

The causes of  obesity  have very little to do with genetics in the vast majority of cases. Our human genetics have not changed for thousands of years. It is impossible for the rampant  obesity  rates to have been caused by genetic predisposition over the past 30 years. What obviously has changed is our eating habits, the foods we eat and the fact that we are a lazy society of sedentary people.  Obesity  help is available. It simply takes the true desire to implement positive lifestyle modifications within your family.

The causes of  obesity  can be easily turned around with a little diligent effort and consistent attention. Reversing  obesity  is not a part-time endeavor; it requires a lifelong commitment to loving yourself enough to choose health over nutritionally-void foods. By taking the first step and educating yourself about the devastating health issues associated directly with  obesity , you are empowering yourself to begin your own life-enhancing program for proper dietary choices and everyday exercise bouts. Congratulations for that!

Take control over your health today. Be a positive leader for your family and friends to look up to. Commit to a healthful lifestyle starting right now and soon you will recognize the causes of  obesity  as the enemies to your health that they are.

Dry Skin Rash – Eczema and Cortisone

Learn a bit more about eczema and cortisone by reading the following transcript from a telephone consultation done recently.

JS: I, too, suffered from eczema. I had very bad eczema. And as soon as I cleared up my–I, too, suffered from asthma. And as soon as I cleared up my eczema, my asthma disappeared. And exercising is important, and cleansing the body of all the toxins and waste and acid is important.

K: The asthma, related to eczema, that comes from the dysfunction of all those organs you were mentioning.

JS: Yeah. I, too, suffered from eczema. I had very bad eczema. And as soon as I cleared up my–I, too, suffered from asthma. And as soon as I cleared up my eczema, my asthma disappeared. And exercising is important, and cleansing the body of all the toxins and waste and acid is important.

K: And family history, it plays a role as well.

JS: Yeah. But you could prevent all that. My family suffered from eczema as well, but I’ve put a halt to it. But you have to work from the inside out. Anybody else has any more questions?

K: How about the cortisone–

JS: Cortisone ointment, yes.

K: Yeah. What are the side effects, and do you recommend we should never ever use them for relief?

JS: I don’t think you should ever, ever use it, but because it gives you short-term relief and if your doctor has prescribed it, you should continue. But start introducing raw foods into your diet and then you could slowly but surely reduce the amounts of cortisone ointment you use. What it does is it doesn’t help the skin to heal. What it does is it stifles the waste products coming through the skin. It’s not actually helping you. Cortisone is not very good for the skin, but I don’t want you to stop using it just like that. You need to work on the inside first, and then you could work on the outside.

This is the end of the telephone transcript.

Cold Sores – Treatment For Cold Sores

Cold  sore  treatments are a great interest for all of us. We are all looking for that magical cure that will free us from this virus that continues to show up when we need the least. Cold  sore  treatments are essentially categorized into two broad groups, over-the-counter (OTC) medications and home remedies for cold  sore . We will look at OTC medications as well as home remedies for cold  sores  available for our use. But first lets have a look at what happens when you get a cold  sore . Cold  sore  are caused by the herpes simplex virus. They are sometimes called fever blisters, and are groups of small blisters on the lip and around the mouth. Cold  sores  do not usually occur inside the mouth except during the initial episode. The blisters usually rupture soon after they have formed, resulting in a shallow reddish ulceration whose surface becomes gray, and most often occur on the lips which distinguishes them from the common canker  sore  which is usually inside the mouth.

Cold  sores , although a virus that you will carry for life, are generally not serious, but the infection could be life threating to someone that has AIDS, or whose immune system is depressed by other disorders or medications. Cold  sores  represent a common problem for many individuals, and appear 3-10 days after exposure and may last up to 3 weeks, but generally only 7-10 days. They s are often feel unsightly to the owner. They will usually stick around for a week or two before they dry up and go away. Cold  sore  symptoms are quickly relieved , and are spread by physical contact with an infected person. So what treatments are there? Well as you might well guess with such a common condition, there are a lot of treatments available, here we will just look at a couple, one chemical and one natural for both cure and pain relief. Acyclovir is in a class of antiviral medications called synthetic nucleoside analogues. It works by stopping the spread of the herpes virus in the body. Acyclovir and a newer drug calledpenciclovir might reduce the pain and help the  sores  go away faster. However, research indicates that most remedies, even the expensive antiviral ones, make little difference to the course of the condition.

If you are pregnant and have concerns about using drugs please note that Acyclovir is considered safe in pregnancy and has not been associated with birth defects in more than 20 years of use Lysine seems to be most effective to control outbreaks when taken internally, lysine and arginine are both amino acids. They come in 500 mg and 1000 mg tablets and capsules. Lysine and zinc are better used as internal support supplements. There have been some tests done on these supplements and results were very favorable compared against OTC chemical treatments. Pain is also present during a cold  sore . This pain is due to a component found in the body known as prostaglandin. Pain can be treated with painkillers, such as ibuprofen or paracetamol (both are available in liquid form for young children). However, you should not take ibuprofen if you are asthmatic, or if you have, or have ever had, stomach ulcers. Ice, or similar, is free and available just about anywhere you might be when you suddenly feel a cold  sore  coming on. Put the ice in a plastic bag for less mess. Ice, when applied to cold  sore  will help to discourage the herpes virus from replicating. Ice helps in relieving the pain, reduce the swelling as well as restrict the herpes virus from spreading.

Methotrexate Psoriasis – What You Must Know

This article looks at methotrexate for psoriasis treatment. Psoriasis on it’s own is an autoimmune disease that affects the skin, nails and body joint. A common feature of psoriasis is the dryness and reddish patches found on the skin. Psoriasis also happens on the knees and elbows, finger nails and the toes. The later effects on the knees and toes is termed psoriatic nail dystrophy.

One of the common features of psoriasis is that it sufferers often experience flare ups which comes and goes. Medical experts believe that the cause of psoriasis could either be genetics or environmental issues. There are instances were stress, alcohol and even smoking can trigger up this condition.

An autoimmune disease, psoriasis affects the skin, nails, and joints of the body. Excessive skin production results in dry, red, patches forming on the skin called psoriatic plaques that can occur in any part of the body, but are more common in the knees and elbows. Psoriasis can also affect the fingernails and toenails, a condition known as psoriatic nail dystrophy. Studies have shown that about two percent of the world’s population suffer from psoriasis.

Psoriasis symptoms can flare up on and off during a sufferer’s life, and conditions vary from mild to severe. The skin has a faint reddish tinge in mild cases, and in severe cases, thick, scaly plaques can cover the entire body. According to medical researchers, both environmental and genetic factors have a lot to do with the development of psoriasis. In certain cases, stress, alcohol consumption, and smoking can trigger the development of psoriasis.

Methotrexate psoriasis is known as the last bus stop for most psoriasis sufferers, after having tried phototherapy, photochemotherapy and other creams.

Methotrexate is a systematic treatment offered to psoriasis sufferers. It can be administered through injection or oral pills. The drug is known to be a toxic immunosuppressant treatment.

Methotrexate psoriasis treatment works by reducing the rate at which the skin cells are produced and then suppressing the auto immundefiecency thus reducing the inflammatory symptoms.

Another use of methotrexate treatment is for psoriatic arthritis. This form of psoriasis affects the joint, thus leading to a form of arthritis.

Methotrexate psoriasis treatment also comes with it’s own horror of side effects.Patients have reported experiencing stomach cramps and loss of appetite when they take the medication in high dose.

This treatment aims at the immune system so bad that it can alter and disturb the bodies natural healing process. When such things happen, the body is left vulnerable to infectious diseases that would have been prevented if the immune system was function properly.

Other side effects include high blood pressure, high glucose level, weak immune system, stomach ulcer, kidney and liver cell damage.

Methotrexate psoriasis therapy is a treatment used when other treatments have failed to give relief to the patient. For instance, phototherapy and photochemotherapy may be used on the patient when the application of creams and ointments offer no improvement in the condition.

If there is no improvement after topical treatment and phototherapy, then systemic treatment – potentially toxic medications – may be prescribed. Systemic medications are either administered by injection, or available as oral pills. Methotrexate psoriasis therapy is a popular systemic treatment. This involves giving the patient methotrexate pills – an immunosuppressant of folic acid analogue.

This treatment lowers the production of skin cells and reduces the responses of the immune system that decreases the chances of inflammation. Methotrexate psoriasis therapy is also very effective when used to slow down the progression of psoriatic arthritis.

Although very popular in the treatment of psoriasis, it must be mentioned that methotrexate psoriasis therapy also has many potential risks and side effects that can cause other health complications. For instance, if taken in higher doses, it could very well result in loss of appetite and stomach cramps.

This drug homes in on the body’s immune system, so disturbs the natural healing mechanism of the body. The body may become susceptible to infections or infectious diseases if methotrexate is used for too long. Other side effects of methotrexate psoriasis therapy includes an immune system that is weakened, high blood pressure, blood glucose level that is not normal, stomach ulcer, and kidney and liver cell damage.

In summary, methotrexate psoriasis treatment is the last option used by most psoriasis sufferers when other treatments fail. This treatment is only prescribed on a rational basis due to it’s side effects. Usually patients would have this treatment for 6 to 12 months, after which it a less toxic treatment is replaced to prevent further damage and side effects.

So as to avoid the long-term side effects of methotrexate psoriasis therapy, rotational therapy is usually prescribed. After a six to twelve month period of taking the drug, it is usually replaced by a less toxic medication – this results in the reduction of damage to other body parts.

Laser Toenail Fungus Treatment Zaps Fungus Fast

Toenail fungus affects approximately 40 million people in the US. This condition is caused by a fungus that may be a result of bad foot care or aging. The fungus thrives on warm humid conditions and attacks the nail and nail bed. The fungus is very hard to get rid of, so let’s ask the question: What is laser toenail fungus treatment and is it effective?

Before considering laser treatment, there are a few other remedies that may be effective. Your drugstore will stock an anti fungal cream that you can apply on the affected nails. There are also drugs that your doctor can prescribe for toenail fungus treatment.

The medication is powerful and has unpleasant side effects. Long term damage to the liver has been reported. Home remedies include soaking your feet in a solution of vinegar or tea tree oil. Many people use herbal tinctures such as olive leaf and grapefruit seed extract, as well as vitamin supplements.

Patholase Pinepointe Foot Laser as well as Noveon Laser treatments can remove toenail fungus. This is a permanent method to cure the problem. Many podiatrists are saying that this is the most revolutionary new treatment in the last 40 years.

Patholase Pinepointe Foot Laser promises an effective and an immediate end to toenail fungus. Like most laser treatments, it is quick and painless. The laser treatment also promises to prevent the recurrence of further fungal infections.

Noveon laser treatment may soon be another option. Usually used in dental procedures or to remove hair, tests have shown that it can also remove toenail fungus. The procedure is very accurate and safe. At present the Noveon method is awaiting final approval.

With around 15% of the world’s population suffering with toenail fungus, the laser option is welcomed. Because laser treatment involves no invasive surgery and is quick and painless, it is a simple option. The laser causes no damage to tissues surrounding the toe nail.

Medical schemes do not yet cover payment of laser treatments for toenail fungal infections. Being expensive, it is only available to a small percentage of people. You may need more than one treatment to make sure the fungus has been completely eradicated.

When one considers that around $1.5 billion is spent annually on toenail fungal treatments, laser is still an attractive option. Oral medication can be dangerous in the long term, with liver disease being one serious side effect. Go online and read up all about toenail laser treatment. At the end of the day, going this route could save you a lot of money that you could waste on creams and pills.

Allergy Effects on the Kidneys, Respiratory System and Stomach

The kidneys:

The two kidneys are responsible for many vital functions. Briefly, they perform the complex task of extracting from the blood, used up proteins, minerals and other elements making up the toxic waste of the metabolic process. This residual material, together with waste water, is then passed in the form of urine, through to the bladder before being finally expelled from the body.

Allergy-caused overloading may cause the liver to deteriorate and lose its capacity to cope fully with its detoxifying duties. As a result, the toxins, left to circulate in the blood, will poison the body and cause damage to the kidneys. Recent studies have shown that kidney failure can be caused by overloading with food toxins. Since undetected food allergies are known to overload the body with toxins, it follows that the kidneys will indeed suffer and may become a ‘target’ organ.

The respiratory system:

The respiratory system comprises the trachea (windpipe), the bronchials and the lungs. Air that we breathe passes through the trachea and bronchials into the lungs where it is used to oxygenate the blood. At the same time, carbon dioxide is extracted from the blood and expelled from the lungs into the atmosphere.

Victims of ecological allergies invariably suffer from chemical as well as food intolerances. Some of the more common chemical allergens are the hydrocarbon products, such as petrol and diesel fumes, pressure pack propellants, etc. When these substances are inhaled into the lungs they are absorbed along with oxygen into the bloodstream. To the allergic person, this ingestion through the lungs sets up the same allergic process as an allergy reaction, caused by eating an allergenic food. Consequently, the person becomes ill but often does not realize the cause, since chemical allergies, like food allergies, can be masked, with resultant symptoms that are seemingly unrelated to the chemicals concerned.

An example of food allergies causing respiratory symptoms is found ‘in a report from Dr Elmer Cranton, of Virginia, who says that recurrent coughs are due to food allergies, not colds. This view was also recently supported by the British Medical Journal. Dr Cranton said that the most likely causes were dairy products, yeast, wheat products, eggs and citrus fruit. He has found with people allergic to these foods, that once they have been removed from the diet, the coughing stops.

Milk and milk products are one of the commonest causes of food allergies. Often, the reaction is a general tendency for excessive mucus to form in the nasal and other respiratory passages. This, in turn, can lead to constant colds, sore throats, nasal catarrh and asthma – all by-products of an ongoing and debilitating food allergy.

The stomach:

The stomach is a simple, bag-like organ and is part of the alimentary canal. It lies between the esophagus and the small intestine. The upper end of the stomach connects with the esophagus, whilst the lower end opens into the doudenum, which is the upper part of the small intestine. The stomach serves as a storage place for food, enabling a large meal to be eaten at one time. It also produces hydrochloric acid and the enzyme pepsin, to digest the food partially.

There are a number of different foods that will irritate the mucous membrane lining the stomach. Highly spiced foods, extremely hot foods and alcoholic drinks can cause ulcers to develop in the stomach or duodenum. Another cause of stomach ulcers can be the regular ingestion of foods to which the person is allergic. It is interesting to note, that the Japanese have the highest rate of stomach cancer in the world, due to the high salt content in their diet.

Dr James Brennan, in his book, Basics of Food Allergy, says that some ulcers are actually a symptom of milk allergy. He discovered this after treating a patient of his who had a duodenal ulcer for over ten years. He found that, by putting his patient on a diet which excluded many of the allergenic foods, the ulcer symptoms disappeared within three days. One by one, various foods were then added back into the diet to see which food caused the allergy. When milk was added to the diet the patient suffered abdominal pain, vomiting and weakness. Once it was again removed from the diet the symptoms disappeared.

Dr Brennan went on to discover, by the same process, that his patient’s ulcer was also inflamed by wheat and pork. Once these foods were permanently removed, the patient remained symptom free for sixteen years.

Other doctors have found that, after removing chocolate, coffee and other known allergenic foods from their patients diets, stomach ulcers have disappeared. Dr Albert Rowe, co-author of Food Allergy, has found that eliminating eggs from a person’s diet can greatly assist ulcer conditions.

There seems no doubt that stomach and duodenal ulcers are yet another symptom of the chronic masked food allergy.

9 Foods to Improve Your Mood

Most of us are in the addictive cycle of using junk foods to improve our moods. Foods and drinks such as cakes, ice creams, alcohol, coffee, chips and chocolate are easily accessible everywhere to soothe us when we’re stressed, bored or down.

But there are healthier alternatives to eating junk food for a quick fix to improve our moods.

The following 9 Foods to Improve Your Moods list will allow you to break this vicious cycle.

What’s actually happening when eating junk foods is our mood neurotransmitters, dopamine, serotonin, norepinephrine, and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) are being stimulated artificially and actually depleting us nutritionally leading to imbalances in the body which over the short term gets you hooked in that vicious cycle of needing those junk foods for the next pick me up, and long term can lead to serious health issues, mentally and physically. Adrenal fatigue, insulin resistance, and depression are just a few of them.

So its a great idea to phase these types of food out of your diet and start replacing them with real, unprocessed whole foods that will actually feed your body the vital nutrients and enzymes it requires to manufacture our feel good hormones. FOR REAL!

Here are the 9 Foods to Improve your Mood:

1. Bananas – A banana is rich in magnesium, which reduces anxiety and improves sleep. Calming and stress-reducing, bananas also contain tryptophan, an amino acid that is converted into serotonin in the body. Because a banana contains a plethora of vitamins and minerals and is also rich in carbohydrates, natural sugars, and potassium, which help the body’s circulatory system deliver oxygen to the brain, it is a nutritious and energizing snack.

2. Dark leafy greens – such as spinach, chard, and kale-are high in folic acid, a nutrient proven to help alleviate depression and reduce fatigue. These greens also boast abundant antioxidants, which protect brain cells from the free radicals that dampen mood and drain energy. In addition, dark leafy greens are packed with magnesium, which aids sleep and enhances our ability to overcome and manage stress.

3. Walnuts – Rich in serotonin-boosting omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium, this antioxidant-rich nut is an easy on-the-go mood booster. Studies have shown that magnesium deficiency may cause depression, anxiety,   irritability , and insomnia. Walnuts help stabilize mood by regulating blood sugar levels and alleviating mood swings.

4. Citrus Fruits – Vitamin C deficiency is associated with low energy, depressed mood, and  irritability . Citrus fruits, such as oranges, lemons, and grapefruit, provide an instant burst of Vitamin C and help to pump oxygen through your body and brain. Vitamin C aids in your body’s absorption of iron, a mineral vital in fighting fatigue. Alternatively you can supplement with Camu Camu – a superfood that has the highest and most absorbable Vitamin C content of any fruit. It comes in dried powder form so you easily add to your smoothie in the morning.

5. Fermented Foods – There is a very close link between our gut and our brain, with the gut often being called the second brain. If you have a healthy terrain of good gut flora you will most likely be a stable, happy human being. If our gut flora is out of whack and we have too many of the bad guys in there, we’ll be feeling pretty nasty. Depression, mood swings, anger, anxiety, teariness or  irritability  can all be caused by an imbalanced gut flora.

Supplementing your diet daily with fermented foods is crucial to build good gut health and maintain a healthy gut and happy mind with a varied strain of good bacteria and symbiotic yeasts. Not only do fermented foods keep you happy, they make digestion easier for you by pre-digesting proteins, fats and carbs, have many immune boosting properties, are loaded with enzymes and help your gut manufacture crucial vitamins.

6. Sunflower Seeds – Sunflower seeds are a great source of folate and magnesium, which help regulate and boost mood. Just a handful of sunflower seeds gives you half the daily recommended amount of magnesium. Magnesium deficiency is often responsible for feelings of fatigue, nervousness, and anxiety and it’s been linked to various mood disorders.

When we have optimum magnesium levels it helps us achieve a calm and relaxed state. Magnesium is beneficial in treating major depression, suicidal tendencies, anxiety,  irritability , and insomnia. Sunflower seeds are a great source of tryptophan and eating them is a great way of boosting serotonin levels. They’re also rich in fiber, which helps maintain stable hormone levels, another way to keep your moods on the up side!

7. Chia Seeds – These amazing little gluten free seeds are high in essential fatty acids. The Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids in Chia seeds provide benefits for the nervous system, improving mood, concentration and depression. Plus they are loaded with fibre which also helps stabilise blood sugar levels and mood. And as well as loaded with other powerful antioxidants keeping you healthy and happy they also have plenty of protein and calcium. Soak in water for 10 minutes for a chia seed porridge, add your favourite sprinkling of nuts, seeds or fruits, almond milk and you have one nutritious breakfast!

8. Avocados – Avocados are the happy fruit. The healthy fats provided by avocados also help to improve mood and keep you feeling happy. These fruits are rich in tryptophan, along with vitamin B and folic acid, which helps the body turn tryptophan into the feel-good chemical serotonin. Avocados contain more protein, potassium, magnesium, folic acid, B vitamins, Vitamin E and vitamin K. These nutrients, along with their high content of oleic acid, make the avocado a powerful antioxidant that has been found to protect against heart disease, stroke and some forms of cancer and keep your moods on the smiley side. Include avocado in your diet by adding it to salads, sandwiches or enjoy half of one as a snack. Include these into your diet every day if you can.

9. Cacao – I love cacao! Cacao is chocolate but in its raw, unprocessed form (without sugar, dairy other nasties added to it). It contains no caffeine and has the highest antioxidant levels of any food in the world. But the added bonus is, it also contains loads of feel good hormones such as tryptophan, serotonin, and phenylethylamine (PEA’s) which is the love hormone. It also contains Anandamide which is the endorphin rush you get after exercise. Plus it contains high levels of minerals. Great to add to almond milk smoothies or to make your favourite raw chocolate dessert with.

Teen Depression – Treatment and Motivation

Your depression will be cured with the new attitude you will adopt in your life henceforth, because humanity needs you and because you need a purpose in your life.

As you can observe, our world is a very sad place, where you cannot be happy as you imagined when you were a child. Here, things are very difficult and nothing is as the way you wish it would be.

You must have the attitude of a hero because you have an obligation to be a hero in a world on the brink of complete destruction by human indifference and disrespect as well as futility and hypocrisy.

You inherited a crazy world governed by cold rationalism, where life has no chance of improvement and peace is only a myth. You also have a crazy psychic sphere that is inherent in you since the biggest part of your mind belongs to your wild and primitive conscience, which means that you are constantly influenced by this violent and absurd content.

You must save the world and save your soul.

This is your responsibility because you are young and you have a lot of energy. If you feel depressed and weak, it’s because you have to face too much and things are too difficult. In reality, the truth is that you have energy and courage on your side because of your youth.

You have not tasted failure or big disappointments, you are not tired, you have a young and athletic body and you are strong. Therefore, humanity depends on you since you can learn, work, correct and build.

Humanity is tired, extremely depressed and has no hope.

Start correcting the world with your example. Be the wise and responsible person who understands the necessity of wisdom in order to solve the human problems.

Beat futility and hypocrisy with your sincerity and your respect to your studies. Apply in your life all the good things that you learn by reading and listening. Don’t be like all the old generations who couldn’t amend their behaviour by virtue of the knowledge they acquired.

You must be serious. In your time, teenagers must help the adults who are trapped in their terrible mistakes. You cannot be futile.

Of course you are depressed… You are young, full of life and energy, but instead of an environment where you could unwind and enjoy with everything you wanted to do, you live in chaos full of invisible traps and dangers.

Only if you try to do something to improve this world where you and billions of people like you live in suffering, will you feel better and only then will your life have a positive meaning.

This way, you will also overcome your depression and the world will be saved by your work.

You are very important!

Please, save us from our ignorance, indolence and indifference!
