High Fiber Food Diet Cuts Risk of Colon Polyps

Want to reduce your risk of colon polyps, commonly seen as a precursor to cancer? Lots of research has looked at broad categories of foods… fruits and veggies for instance, now we have a study that’s focusing on specific foods from a high fiber food diet.

Researchers have found that those who regularly eat foods like brown rice; legumes (beans, peas, lentils), cooked green veggies and dried fruits had a lower chance of colon polyps, recognized as a precursor to cancer of the colon.

The recommendations come after an analysis of data from nearly 3000 subjects taking part in a Study who were monitored for an astonishing 26 years.

The participants completed an initial survey that asked how often, on average, they ate specific foods. The follow up survey asked respondents who had undergone colonoscopies to report any colon polyps their doctor had diagnosed. During this 26-year study period, just short of 450 people went on to develop rectal or colon polyps.

The potentially troublesome colon polyp is a fleshy growth that appears on the inner lining of your large intestine. The growths are surprisingly common, and they are even more likely as the years pass.

Doctors know that about 75% of some polyps, known technically as adenomas, will become cancerous if given time enough to grow. This is why your health care team makes such a fuss about having those screenings when you should. Screening is still the best way to prevent disease from taking hold.

The researchers found that risk of polyps reduced by 40% in people who had brown rice once a week; 33% lower among these who ate legumes at a minimum of three times per week.

Eating dried fruits three or more times per week was linked to a 26% lower risk when compared to those who ate less than one dried fruit a week.

As for the cooked green veggies, eating them daily was linked to a 24% lower risk compared to those who ate them on less than five occasions per week.

These numbers held even after the team accounted for factors like a family history of colon cancer, education, physical activity level, intake of alcohol, smoking status, constipation, intake of sweets, use of pain medication and intake of multivitamins. Food variables were also considered, and adjusted for as needed.

So what do the foods studied have in common?

They’re all healthy options, of course… but more importantly; they all contain a lot of fiber that’s known to reduce potential carcinogens in the body. What’s more, cruciferous veggies (broccoli is one) also have detoxifying compounds that might make them a very natural way to protect the lining of the intestine from trouble.

Study researchers believe eating these kinds of foods can help to reduce the number of colon polyps you have, and thus your risk for developing colon cancer.

We know that colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S. and the third most common type of cancer in both men and women according to the American Cancer Society. If you can keep yourself from joining that number, do so.

More work will need to be done on the benefits of a high fiber food diet for lowering the risk of developing colon polyps. In the meantime, have the screenings recommended for your age and health, and make the changes (even small ones) to your diet that will help protect you from this too-often-deadly disease… while you still can.

How To Prevent Fibroids Bleeding

If you are looking for information on how to prevent fibroids bleeding, then there is much you can do to help the situation. Fibroids can bleed between the monthly periods, cause heavy bleeding around the time of the menstrual period and even cause breakthrough bleeding at various times during the month.

Fibroids bleeding can occur for a number of reasons:-

* Blockages can occur caused by the location of the fibroids which can cause the blood to accumulate and then seem heavy when released
* Fibroids can cause changes in the blood flow around the uterus, causing congestion
* New blood vessels grow when fibroids form and quite simply, this increase in blood volume can mean more blood flowing around the area than before and a greater release at the time of the period

If nothing is done, then anemia may be the result, along with excrutiating pain. However, you can easily learn how to prevent fibroids bleeding although it is rarely achievable with one step. Indeed, it is often a combination of a number of simple strategies which does the trick.

* Gentle, moderate exercise can help to improve the circulation generally and this should be done throughout the month, not just when you are having your period
* Avoid using tampons which can cause cramping
* Rest with your legs raised above your abdomen
* Consider trying anti-inflammatories, such as Ibuprofen
* Lie on your side, bend you knees and pull your legs up to your chest
* Take a supplement containing Vitamins A C and E. Folic acid and Vitamin B12 can also be helpful

Hopefully, these simple tips will help if you are wanting to know how to prevent fibroids bleeding. However, the steps above will only help temporarily and cannot eliminate the problems altogether. To do this, you need to use a system which enables you to shrink fibroids completely so that the heavy bleeding and other associated problems disappear.

Ovarian Cyst Size

Ovarian  cyst  size varies from case to case. Each different type of ovarian  cyst  will also result in a different size. The following provides some general idea of how the size can vary depending on the type of ovarian  cyst . It is important to note that more than one type of  cyst  can occur at the same time, thereby compounding the ovarian  cyst  size somewhat.

The typical ovarian  cyst  size generally starts at around half an inch. The following are a few types of ovarian  cysts  with their corresponding sizes:

1. Follicular  Cysts  or Graffian Follicle – can grow up to about 2 inches in diameter

2. Hemorrhagic  Cysts  – may grow up to about 6 inches in diameter

3. Dermoid  Cysts  – may grow up to about 17 inches in diameter

4. Multiple  cysts  or Polycystic ovary – a cluster of ovarian  cysts  that can be up to five times larger than healthy ovaries

As can be seen, the ovarian  cyst  size varies from type to type. However, regardless of the size, it is important to detect ovarian  cysts  as soon as possible so that remedial actions can be taken. This is especially true in some cases i.e. in the case of cancerous  cysts . These cancerous  cysts  typically do not show any symptoms until the  cyst  is larger.

Before the  cyst  gets too large, certain adjustments can be made to alleviate and in some cases reduce or even eliminate it completely. This can be done relatively easily by following basic natural healing principles that govern how we live.

These areas focus on a few simple elements that are so critical to our well being i.e. knowing what food to eat, following a painless detoxification program, reducing stress and getting enough rest, among other things. This may seem simple, and it is, if you know exactly how to go about it. After that, all it takes is to just adjust your lifestyle accordingly and your body will naturally find its balance and reduce many if not most diseases and complications such as  cysts  and PCOS.

Thrush Diet – 4 Foods to Avoid

Did you realise that food is often to blame for many of the infections that we are experiencing? This is especially the case if you are suffering from thrush (yeast infection) but it is not necessarily the yeast that we are eating which is causing the problem. Thrush is caused by a certain type of Candida that is present in the environment all around us. It is also in our body, even when we are not experiencing an infection and it serves a useful purpose. When our body is in balance, thrush is kept in check so we do not typically experience any problems.

If you have a problem with thrush, especially if it is recurring or even chronic, there are some foods that you should avoid at all costs. These foods don’t necessarily cause thrush to occur but they can keep it alive once it exists. Here are 4 different types of foods that should be avoided by those who have problems with thrush.

Sugar – One of the main things that should be avoided when you’re having a problem with thrush is processed sugar. Yeast eats sugar so if you’re feeding the yeast infection, you’re going to have a difficult time getting rid of it. Even many of the foods that you should eat for thrush, such as yoghurt, typically have a lot of sugar added. Make sure that you read the labels before you put anything in your mouth.

Processed Foods – Anything that is processed is not going to necessarily be good for your body. If you really want to get rid of thrush, you need to get back to the basics of eating, including plenty of raw fruits and vegetables.

Pasta – Even though many of us enjoy eating pasta regularly, you should avoid eating it whenever you are experiencing thrush. Most of the pasta that we eat is made from refined flour and water. This refined flour can cause problems in our body, including feeding the yeast infection that we are experiencing.

Mushrooms – Even though not all of us eat mushrooms, it is certainly high up on the list of things that we should not be eating if we have thrush. Make sure you avoid them and you will have better success with getting rid of the infection.

Hepatitis A – A Medical Condition

This disease, hepatitis affects a person’ s liver. Having hepatitis means that your liver is inflamed and swollen. The cause of hepatitis can either be a microorganism or because your liver is damaged by other things like alcohol.

There are five different types of hepatitis, like hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, that are cause by hepatitis viruses. This hepatitis virus grows in a person’ s liver and causes a lot of damage to this organ. Our immune system fights back against hepatitis, but is takes a while to eliminate the infection in our liver.

To better understand hepatitis, you must first know how you can get this disease. Well, before a person gets sick, but has already contacted the hepatitis A virus, they shed it in their feces. If somehow the hepatitis A virus gets into the main water supply and you use it to wash your body, food, etc. you are a possible hepatitis victim. This way of spread the hepatitis A virus is called fecal- oral transmission. This is the most common form of transmitting the viral hepatitis.

People who live in countries that are just developing are more at risk of developing hepatitis, because the sewage system is not properly cleaned. So much of the water that these people use is contaminated by the hepatitis virus that spreads very easily and causes hepatitis A. This hepatitis virus does not kick in from the beginning. It may take about 30 days for the symptoms of hepatitis to show. This time that the hepatitis virus does not show any symptoms is called an incubation period. However, many of the people infected with the hepatitis virus will not develop hepatitis. This is mostly true in children. Older people are more at risk of getting hepatitis.

Some of the most common hepatitis symptoms are tiredness, nausea, vomiting, a general loss of your apatite. Another major hepatitis symptom is pain in your liver area, that is in the right side of the abdomen, under your ribs. A striking hepatitis symptom is the change in color. Your skin will become yellow to orange and the white portion of your eyes will also become yellow if you have hepatitis. In most people the symptoms of hepatitis last about one month. After proper treatment, the hepatitis A will no longer be a problem for you.

There is also a simple way of avoiding infection with the hepatitis A virus and that is the hepatitis A vaccine.

The Road to a Happy Healthy Liver

The first thing you should know about your liver is where its located. Your liver is just under your rib cage on the right side of your abdomen and it weighs about 3 to 4 pounds. Your liver helps you to absorb nutrients from food as well as digest it. It also helps you to get rid of any harmful toxins that are in your body. Your metabolism is also controlled by your liver and when you need energy your liver reserves sugar to use.

Your liver is like a starfish, it can regenerate itself within a few weeks. It can still regenerate even after you’ve lost most of it to disease or most of has been removed in surgery. This doesn’t mean that your liver is invincible by any means. There are many problems that can arise in your liver. Cirrhosis and liver disease are just two of the many things that can go wrong in your liver. Liver disease can be caused by alcoholism. Excessive alcohol abuse can make the liver swell with a layer of fat around it. It the fat becomes irritated it can cause alcoholic hepatitis, this damage can be reversible, unlike the damage of cirrhosis. Alcohol lowers the antioxidant levels in the liver. Alcohol has a lot of calories in it, alcoholics tend to take in more calories as alcohol rather than food that has nutrients, this causes malnutrition. So when in treatment for hepatitis or liver disease the amount of nutrient rich calories they take in can be life or death. They need at least 3000 good calories during treatment.

Fatty liver disease can be caused by obesity, diabetes, as well as alcoholism. One third of patients with fatty liver disease have high cholesterol levels or type 2 diabetes. These are majors for a heart attack. Biliary cirrhosis is from an injury to the biliary system. the livers job is to emit bile, the body uses it in the intestines for breakdown of fats from foods. Cardiac cirrhosis is when severe congestive heart failure results in a chronic liver injury that becomes inflamed and creates scar tissue. This causes the heart to have a blood back up in the major veins because it cannot handle the pressure.

Cirrhosis takes a long time to develop. Usually the only way it can be deteched is through routine blood tests, if it is caught early enough it can be treated with no guarantees of recovery. If the liver is beyond repair the only treatment that can be served is a transplant. This can only happen if the patient has been clean from alcohol in the past 6 months.

Some of the signs that there are problems with your liver are yellowish skin and eyes, abdominal pain and swelling, itching skin, dark urine, pale bowel color, chronic fatigue, nausea, and loss of appetite. If you have a few of these symptoms seeing a specialist is recommended.

To prevent and help protect your liver from problems you can drink alcohol in low amounts. More than two drinks a day for men and one for women can be enough to cause liver cirrhosis.

Keeping your liver healthy and your body health is very important by trying, Liver Aid, it can really help you! It’s a formula to protect and improve liver health and function by helping it manage toxins. It provides excellent liver support and increases energy.

Chain Rule

The chain rule is one of the most commonly used rules in differential calculus. Essentially it is used to find the derivative of composite functions. So what does that mean exactly? Well let’s take a look.

Suppose we have the function f(x) = sqrt(x^2 + 9), how would we go about finding its derivative? The calculus tools you have learned up until this point do not allow you to solve this. So as you may have guessed we have to use the chain rule.

The chain rule makes use of inherent substitution to solve composite functions. We can write this out in Leibniz form as;

dy/dx = (dy/du) * (du/dx)

This may look kind of complicated, but it is pretty easy to put into use.

Let’s go back to our function f(x) = sqrt(x^2 + 9). First we can make the substitution u = x^2+9. We will refer to this as our inside function. Now if we sub u back into our original function we are left with;

f(u) = sqrt(u)

So according to our chain rule we need to find two terms; dy/du and du/dx. Dy/du is the derivative of the ‘outside’ function. We can solve this fairly easily.

Dy/du = 1/(2*sqrt(u)). This is a pretty common derivative, hopefully you have seen this before.

So now we can find the derivative of the inside function;

u = x^2 + 9
Du/dx = 2x

Now that we have both pieces, we can put them into the chain rule.

Dy/dx = 1/(2sqrt(u)) * 2x
= 2x/(2sqrt(x^2+9))
= x /sqrt(x^2 + 9)

So that’s really all there is to it. Hopefully now you can see that this is easier than it sounds. Find some more example problems and practice it more. It is an important rule you will have to use often.

Cat Vomiting is Usually Normal

Normal Types Of  Vomiting  In Cats

The typical type of  vomiting , and the most common, is caused by hairballs. Cats lick themselves and swallow their own fur. If you did the licking, you would benefit by getting some good fiber into your body. This would be great for your GI tract if you could swallow it without upchucking it yourself.

However, cats do not need this heavy dose of indigestible fur, so it has to come back up.

The important thing to remember here is that you do not need to disrupt this behavior. In fact, you could do harm if you did. The best strategy is to either do nothing or to feed your cat a hairball formula food.

You may notice that your cat  vomits  after being outside. Pets of all kinds like to eat grass, which helps with digestive function. In the case of cats, eating grass also brings up hairballs.

When  Vomiting  In Cats Means Trouble

One of our kitties, Amos, hacks and coughs up junk because he has asthma. This seems to be rare in cats. Amos benefits from a homeopathic asthma formula, which he likes to take with a little bit of canned food each morning. His attacks are less frequent when he has this every day.

A more common problem is parasites. Even a light case of worms can be harmful if not treated. You may even see your cat throw up a worm. Watch for a swollen belly as one of the more common signs of worms. You may also notice a loss of appetite and weight loss.

Deworming medications will also causing  vomiting .

Other, less common causes of cat  vomiting  include: intestinal obstruction after swallowing a foreign object, poisons such as antifreeze (it tastes sweet) and lawn and garden chemicals (fertilizers, herbicides, weed killers, pesticides). Even if you do not use these chemicals, an outdoor cat can often find them somewhere in your neighborhood.

What To Do First

If you are not sure what the cause of cat  vomiting  is, then do not attempt a treatment. The first thing to do, even if it is just for your peace of mind, is to talk with a veterinarian. Fortunately, online pet advice is easy to find, so you may be able to find out what you need to know without a costly office visit.

Food Safety and Bacteria

By the end of this series of 7 articles you should be able to explain the nature of food poisoning bacteria and their effects on food, state and explain the four conditions necessary for the growth of food poisoning bacteria, name the temperatures of the temperature danger zone and state its importance in relation of food storage, give examples of high risk foods and have an initial familiarity with the names of food poisoning bacteria and how they affect food safety.

Bacteria are responsible for 80% of all food poisoning outbreaks.

So what effects do food poisoning bacteria have on food? Do they affect the colour, taste, texture and appearance? Actually, food which is contaminated with food poisoning bacteria smells looks and tastes normal. The type of bacteria that affect the taste, colour, smell and texture of food are known as spoilage bacteria.

Spoilage bacteria affect food in the following way:

Discolouration, texture change, off odours, damage to packaging, unusual taste, mould growth, slime and stickiness and the production of gas such as carbon dioxide or hydrogen. If these gases occur inside a sealed can they are classed as blown, which means the bulging of cans due to the increase in gas. You can also have blown packs such as bag in the box wine which can expand to the size of a large football. Spoilage bacteria do not usually cause illness and therefore does not affect food safety as do pathogens.

What are bacteria, where do they come from, how to they interact with us?

Bacteria are living organisms, much like us. Humans are living organisms, bacteria are a lot smaller, in fact they are microscopic, you can only see them with the aid of a microscope. Bacteria are very similar to us, some scientists say we have evolved from bacteria. Their cellular processes and cellular contents are very similar to ours. Bacteria are found everywhere. The four major areas to find bacteria are, on and in the soil, water supplies, faeces and raw meat. The major repository of bacteria on the planet is soil. The majority of bacteria are harmless. Without many microorganisms we would not be able to survive. Bacteria have many generic names including pathogenic bacteria, pathogens, and germs. These three names apply to bacteria that cause illness and have a significant effect on food safety. Pathos is the Greek word for illness and therefore pathogens and pathogenic apply to bacteria that cause illness. Microorganisms and microbes apply to all bacteria, good and bad.

Stomach Ulcer Basics

Affecting millions of Americans each year, a stomach ulcer is a raw, open area in the normal lining of the stomach. Stomach ulcers get their particular name depending on the exact location of the ulcer. For example, a duodenal or peptic ulcer is a stomach ulcer found in the first foot of small intestines past the stomach. A gastric ulcer in located inside the stomach itself. Although duodenal or peptic ulcers are almost always benign, it is important to remember that gastric or stomach ulcers can be malignant. Close medical management is critical.

A protective layer of mucus producing cells prevent the stomach from being destroyed by normal digestive juices and stomach acids. However, when there is a break in that protective layer trouble can occur. A stomach ulcer occurs when the gastric or intestinal mucosal lining of the stomach is destroyed by hydrochloric acid, an acid which is normally present in the digestive juices of the stomach.

Another cause of ulcers, particularly gastric and duodenal ulcers, can be a bacterial infection known as Helicobacter pylori or H. pylori. The helicobacter pylori bacterium may be transmitted from person to person through contaminated food and water and is treated with antibiotics.

One of the major symptoms of a stomach ulcer is pain, more specifically pain that feels much like a gnawing or burning pain in the middle upper abdomen often occurring some two to three hours after a meal. Often this pain is mistaken for heartburn or even hunger. Pain from a stomach ulcer may awaken you at night and may be relieved with food or milk.

Stomach ulcers are treated with prescription strength medications designed to reduce stomach acid, to protect the stomach lining and to treat the H. pylori bacteria, if it is present.

There are several medications that are commonly used to treat stomach ulcers. If the intent is to reduce stomach acid, then your physician may prescribe medications such as H2-Receptor antagonists like Nizatidine (Axid®), Cimetidine (Tagamet®), Ranitidine (Zantac®), or Famotidine (Pepcid®). Also used to reduce stomach acids are medications called Proton pump inhibitors. These types of medications include Omeprazole (Prilosec®), Esomeprazole (Nexium®), Lansoprazole (Prevacid®), or Pantoprazole (Pantoloc®). Medications used to protect the lining of the stomach include over-the-counter medications such as Rolaids or Tums or medications such as sucralfate, which forms a protective barrier over the site of the ulcer to help it to heal.

Stomach ulcers are certainly painful and can lead to additional complications such as bleeding. They require aggressive treatment directed by your healthcare provider in order to resolve the current ulcer and attempt to prevent future recurrences.

The Causes of Heartburn and Acid Reflux

Studies show that millions of people experience heartburn each week. Along side heartburn, there is acid reflux. This article is about the causes of each. Some people might not know, but heartburn and acid reflux are not the same! Heartburn is actually a symptom of acid reflux, so you may have acid reflux, but not heartburn.

Heartburn Causes

Large Meals

Fried, Greasy and Fatty Foods

Tomatoes and Tomato Sauces

Garlic and Onions (Raw)

Spicy Foods

Citrus Fruits (Oranges, Lemons, and Grapefruit)

Caffeinated Beverages (Coffee, Tea, and Soda)

Abdominal Exercise

Blood Pressure and Heart Disease Medication

Several foods are the trigger for most people’s heartburn. Any large (meals), fried, greasy, or fatty foods will give you heartburn, especially if you eat before bed! Large meals will stretch your stomach, thus causing you LES to relax (More info at Heartburn Sucks). Alcohol is a big trigger for heartburn as well, specifically if you are drinking red wine. Red sauces should be avoided too! Which means you should avoid that pizza, especially if you like your pizza with black pepper! Garlic and raw onions on pizza will also give you heartburn. Any spicy foods, such as curry. Don’t eat dessert before bed, especially chocolate, as it is another trigger of heartburn! Oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and any juice relating to those fruits are acidic! As most know, citrus fruits are one of the main triggers of heartburn and acidic build-up. Coffee, tea, and soda all contain caffeine which can cause a bit of a heartburn. Exercises that focus on the abdomen, causes pressure in your abdomen, which can lead to heartburn. Exercising on a full stomach can do this too, so wait awhile. Lastly, if you are taking any sort of blood pressure or heart disease medication, you might experience heartburn as well. Don’t mistake the symptoms of heartburn for the symptoms of a heart attack (More info at Heartburn Sucks)!

Acid Reflux Causes

Hiatal Hernia

Smoking & Alcohol

Citrus Fruits (Oranges, Lemons, and Grapefruit)

Caffeinated Beverages (Coffee, Tea, and Soda)

Fried, Greasy and Fatty Foods

Tomatoes and Tomato Sauces

Garlic and Onions (Raw)

Spicy Foods

Being Overweight

Lying Down After Eating

Aspirin and Ibuprofen Medication

Acid reflux triggers are similar to that of heartburn (especially the foods), but there are a few major differences. A hiatal hernia is when the stomach bulges up into the chest. If this occurs, it is much easier for acid to flow into your esophagus. Pregnancy, mostly during the third trimester, is another trigger. It is due to higher levels of hormones as well as pressure from the fetus growing. Smoking, as well as alcohol, is another trigger, as it increases acid secretion and relaxes the LES. Being overweight or obese, or lying down right after eating (which is why you don’t eat a big meal before bed) may cause acid reflux as well as heartburn. And of course the medications that can causes acid reflux are mainly pain relievers, such as aspirin and ibuprofen.

If conditions of acid reflux worsen, it can lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Fish Oil: The Essential Body Supplement

Benefits of Fish Oil

Fatty fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel have fats that can produce fish oil. Fish contains Omega-3 fatty acids which are recommended by health-care professionals to be included in a individual’s diet. Omega-3 acids are mainly docosahexaenoic acid or DHA and eicosapentaenoic acid or EPA. Omega- fatty acids are essential in cell building. It is important to get them from our diet since the body cannot produce this kind of acid. Research showed that Omega- 3 plays a significant role in brain and fetal development during pregnancy and infancy. Fish oil are believed and proven to provide numerous health benefits. Aside from this, there are also a lot of advantages by taking oil supplements.

Fish oil can:

• Improve brain development and memory. There are studies showing that DHA actually plays a major role in brain functions. Low levels of DHA can increase the risk of having Alzheimer’s disease. Intake of fish oil during pregnancy is also recommended. According to a research conducted by the University of Western Australia showed that pregnant women who ingest fish oil supplement actually give birth to babies with better hand and eye coordination, better in speech and better cognitive development at the age of two and a half.

Aside from Alzheimer’s disease, fish can also help in reducing the risk of other mental illnesses like depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) among children, dyspraxia, bipolar disorder and dyslexia.

• Reduce the risk of hear attack. Even if the DHA and EPA are fatty acids, they can reduce cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure. It helps in preventing blood clots in the heart. So aside from heart attacks,It is also important in reducing risks of coronary heart disease.

• Reduce the risk of cancer. Researches have shown that fish oil can help in reducing risks of developing breast, prostate and colon cancer. They stop the growth of cancerous cells and inhibit its growth. For postmenopausal women, those who consume more Omega-3 fatty acids from salmon and mackerel or fish oil supplements are less likely to develop breast cancer.

• Reduce the effects or helping patients deal with lupus, arthritis, colitis and asthma. Its natural anti-inflammatory capabilities can reduce pain brought by inflammatory arthritis and gastritis.

• Help a lot during pregnancy. Not only does Omega-3 fatty acids and helps in he fetal brain development, it can also reduce the risk of giving early or premature birth, post-partum depression for mothers, allergic reactions among babies an low- birth weight. Not only does it helps in pregnancy, there are preliminary researches showing fish oil to aid in getting pregnant or fertility.

• Help improve the body overall. Fish oil can help in producing serotonin, the happy hormones. Happiness can help a lot of people deal with stress and other emotional issues which can totally improve a person’s emotional and mental disposition. They can also revitalize and rejuvenate skin, reduce wrinkles, weight loss and improve eyesight. It is even said that fish oil can reduce acne and make your hair a lot better. The oil is very important in building a better you. But doctors and experts suggest in taking pharmaceutical grade oil supplements. The problem with eating too much fish can actually lead to mercury contamination. So, ask yourself, are you getting enough oil in your body? If not, then it is time to start making sure that you do that.

Fish oil can:

• Improve brain development and memory. There are studies showing that DHA actually plays a major role in brain functions. Low levels of DHA can increase the risk of having Alzheimer’s disease. Intake f fish oil during pregnancy is also recommended. According to a research conducted by the University of Western Australia showed that pregnant women who ingest fish oil supplement actually give birth to babies with better hand and eye coordination, better in speech and better cognitive development at the age of two and a half.

Aside from Alzheimer’s disease, fish oil can also help in reducing the risk of other mental illnesses like depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) among children, dyspraxia, bipolar disorder and dyslexia. There are studies showing that the lack polyunsaturated fatty acids can contribute to this disorder. This can also be the reason behind dyslexia. There were studies conducted among children, they were given fish oil supplements for the period of three months. These children showed significant improvements in behaviour, reading and spelling. They were also able to focus and concentrate more.

There were studies that showed that Omega-3 fatty acids had the same effects as Prozac which is a known anti-depressant. Studies showed that countries with high fish consumption have lower rates of depression. Aside from that, pregnant women and those who have just given birth who include fish in their diet regularly have lower risk of experiencing postpartum depression.

If you have decided to take the supplements to address these mental problems for yourself or for your kids or relatives, then it would be best to consult a doctor first. You would have to know how much you are going to take. Just like any vitamins or anything, when taken in excess it can have bad effects.Too much of the supplement can also cause some serious problems like oxidative stress. Some doctors would recommend taking Vitamin C along with the fish oil supplement. This would actually balance the nutrients that you are getting.Fish oil has amazing effects on our health and body, we just have to remember to keep it balanced with a healthy diet and healthy lifestyle. One of the reasons why people take these supplements is due to the various health benefits that they offer. It has long been known to contain essential fatty acids that are known to be very beneficial in maintaining one’s good health. Here are some of those benefits.

Heart Disease One of the more common benefits that fish oil is known to offer people involves heart health. Various studies through the years have shown that the long chain omega 3 fatty acids contained in fish oil may help reduce the risk of heart diseases in humans. These essential fatty acids may also help lower LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream ad therefore help reduce the risk of heart attacks and stroke. Not only that, omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil are also known to increase the levels of HDL, or good, cholesterol.

Prevent Inflammation One of the more beneficial properties of omega 3 fatty acids found in fish oil is their anti-inflammatory effects on the body.It can be also used to prevent or reduce the inflammation of the tissues. Regular consumption of fish oil has been known to help those people who are suffering from chronic inflammatory diseases. It has also been known to be effective in treating certain gastrointestinal disorders as well as ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease.Arthritis Treatment Due to its good anti-inflammatory properties, fish oil is a good supplement that can help ease the pain brought about by arthritis and rheumatic.it’s supplements can help reduce the use of NSAID’s or Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs for treating such conditions. In osteoarthritis, fish oils prove helpful in trying to reduce the functions of certain enzymes that may destroy or damage cartilage tissues in the body.

Weight Loss Fish oil also proves beneficial for those people who are trying to lose weight. It sees that taking oil supplements may help a lot during the weight loss process. It has been known to improve the efficiency of exercise in trying to lose weight. Studies have shown that people who were given fish oil as part of their diet seem to lose weight more when exercising than those people under the same program but were not given fish oil in their diet.

Eye Disorders Another benefit that many experts have extolled on fish oil involves the treatment of certain eye disorders. Consuming it on a regular basis seems to help people avoid the effects of age related macular degeneration. More studies are being undertaken in order to prove further just how effective fish oil can be in trying to help people maintain good eye health.Skin Health Another known benefit associated with fish oil consumption is skin health. It is also known to contain nutrients that can help change dry and poorly maintained skin look shiny and glowing. It has also been known to be effective in treating other skin conditions such as eczema, skin lesions and rashes. It can be applied topically on the skin to help relieve the effects of psoriasis. Regular intake can also help retain moisture in the skin.

Your Ultimate Defense Against Silent Inflammation:

Silent inflammation has been linked to heart disease, cancer and dementia. It is a condition that occurs when the body’s natural immune response goes awry. Silent inflammation is an inflammation without pain and it can continue undetected for years, continually assaulting your heart, arteries and even the brain – without you noticing it.According to Dr. Barry Sears, author of bestselling books “The Zone,” high carbohydrate diet is the culprit to this kind of health situation. In his boos “The Anti-inflammation Zone,” he had proposed taking supplements of high dose, ultra-refined fish oil as the best armor against inflammation.

The Japanese manage to maintain a state of wellness and away from silent inflammation by consuming copious amounts of fish. However, according to a research, the massive amounts of fish does not ensure them enough intake of omega-3 fatty acids or fish oil. Fish oil is ultimately the healthiest fat around because it has profiund anti-inflammatory properties. It has no long-term side effects and can even make you smarter.

The reason why high-dose fish oil is so effective is because it reduces arachodonic acid (AA) which is the building block of pro-inflammatory eicosanoids. By taking it within 30 days,it will increase your levels of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Fish oil is the only dietary supplement that is supported by robust clinical studes by treating chronic conditions like heart disease, cancer, immunological and inflammatory diseases, and neurological conditions like attention deficit disorder, depression, multiple sclerosis, and different types of dementia. However, taking oil fish as defenses to silent inflammation has a drawback, it might lead you to contamination. So in taking fish oil as dietary supplement, Dr. Barry Sears cautioned to ensure that its ultra-refined and use the SIP as guidance for exact dosage. On a scale of 1 to 10 for supplements, Dr. Sears give high-dose fish oil a 12. The EPA found in fish oil partially inhibits the activity of the delta-5 desaturase enzyme that makes AA.

This represents the primary anti-inflammatory effect of fish oil, he adds. To achieve a significant impact on AA production, a person must provide a lot of EPA. A high-dose fish oil, especially rich in EPA will likely lead you to success in reducing silent inflammation as reflected in the reduction of the AA/EPA ratio. The ratio can be measured by SIP.

The public and the mainstream medicine are starting to accept the importance of insulin control to well-being. Now is the perfect time to bring to public’s attention the role of eicosanoids and the way high-dose it can manipulate them. Dr. Barry Sears that the role of fish oil in medical practice because it tells us that medical care is based primarily on the food we eat, not the drugs we take.Recent genetic research is forcing scientists to evaluate the value of fish oil in the evolution of modern humANS. It was genetic scientists who initiated the theory that consumption of high-dose fish oil was the reason why humans have the power to conquer the earth. A proper combination of insulin and high-dose pharmaceutical-grade of the oil may be the true miracle cure for the 21st century. It is so effective that having this dietary supplement is like having a miracle drug that has the perfect balance between eicosanoids with totally zero side effects.

• Reduce the risk of hear attack. Even if the DHA and EPA are fatty acids, they can reduce cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure. It helps in preventing blood clots in the heart. So aside from heart attacks, fish oil is also important in reducing risks of coronary heart disease.

• Reduce the risk of cancer. Researches have shown that can it will help in reducing risks of developing breast, prostate and colon cancer.

Not only does Omega-3 fatty acids and It helps in the fetal brain development, it can also reduce the risk of giving early or premature birth, post-partum depression for mothers, allergic reactions among babies an low- birth weight. Not only does it helps in pregnancy, there are preliminary researches showing fish oil to aid in getting pregnant or fertility.

• Help improve the body overall. The oil can help in producing serotonin, the happy hormones. Happiness can help a lot of people deal with stress and other emotional issues which can totally improve a person’s emotional and mental disposition. They can also revitalize and rejuvenate skin, reduce wrinkles, weight loss and improve eyesight. It is even said that fish oil can reduce acne and make your hair a lot better.Fish is very important in building a better you. But doctors and experts suggest in taking pharmaceutical grade of oil supplements. The problem with eating too much fish can actually lead to mercury contamination. So, ask yourself, are you getting enough fish oil in your body? If not, then it is time to start making sure that you do.

But every coin has two sides. So, is it possible for something beneficial like fish oil, to have bad effects, as well? Yes, it is possible.

If you have fish oil capsules or liquid at home, then you would have to make sure that it would not be exposed to heat, light and oxygen. When exposed for too long,it would get oxidized and would get bad. Once the oil gets bad, it would lose its nutritional value. Aside from that, bad fish oil and fatty acids are said to contribute to the development of cancer and other diseases.Minor side effects of fish oil would include a fishy aftertaste, diarrhea, and fishy burps. Some would report nose bleeding as a side effect of fish oil intake. Aside from this, you would have to be conscious with vitamin A, E and D. Accumulated or large doses of these vitamins can eventually lead to poisoning. There are also serious side effects of fish oil. If these side effects happen to you, it is best to consult a health care professional. You would have to stop taking fish oil supplements or it could mean other serious ailments.

Fish is said to increase the risk of bleeding, especially gastrointestinal bleeding. So if you would notice red blood on your stool and vomiting blood, the consult a health care professional immediately. Serious effects could also include hemorrhagic stroke or bleeding in the brain. Common symptoms would include vision and speech changes, numbness or loss of strength in the limbs and frequent and painful headaches. If you have diabetes, then it would also be better to check with your doctor if taking fish oil supplements is safe. Taking fish oil supplements can sometimes result to hyperglycemia or high blood sugar. Be watchful or conscious of allergic reactions. Symptoms that you are allergic with oil supplements which includes rashes, itching, swelling, wheezing and difficulty in breathing or swallowing.

To avoid the minor side effects, you can take the oil supplement along with your meal. This would get rid of the aftertaste and make it easier to digest. It is less likely for you to experience abdominal or stomach pain. There are few who keep their supplements refrigerated. It is said that keeping them frozen or cold would help lessen gastrointestinal problems or side-effects.

Too much is always not good. The problem is we do not how much is too much. There is maximum amount that an individual should take. But there is a recommended amount, for male it is 1600 mg while women are recommended to have 1100 mg.As mentioned, we should be cautious with Vitamin A,E, and D overdose. How do we deal with this?Read the labels. Know what kind of supplement you are taking. You have to know if the oil supplements you are taking exceed the recommended level. To avoid an overdose of Vitamin A and D, avoid using fish oil that includes the internal organs like liver.

Fish oil is something that can very essential in improving our physical and mental health as long as it is taken in recommended doses and amounts. Let us remember that fish oil is not a magic pill that would immediately remove us of any ailments and pains. It’s effects can be gradually noticed over time.

How Fish Oil Can Benefit Your Health:

Oil are extracted fats from fish, a concentrated solution of omega-3 EFAs. It is the best source of omega-3 EFAs. You could add more omega-3 EFAs to your diet in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). The richest plant sources of ALA are the leaves and seeds of the perilla plants common in North America, Japan, Korea, China and Vietnam.

Green plants and algae also contain ALA as well as linseed oil. However, fats or oil from fish is considered the most important dietary source of omega-3 EFAs because it has concentrated amounts of the ALA derivatives EPA and DHA. These two nutrients are found almost exclusively in seafood.

Eating fish on a regular basis has its own risk as you are can never be sure if the fish you are eating has no toxins on it such as mercury and PCBs. During the manufacture of fish oils, toxins are eliminated. The supplements are meticulously purified to remove heavy metals such as mercury, lead, PCBs and other toxins as well as to reduce the incidence of rancidity and improve the taste and quality of the fish. These makes fish as safe and effective food supplement. A 1-gram fish oil capsule contains about 180 mg of EPA and 120 mg of DHA. An intake of three 1-gram capsules would provide 0.9 gram (900 mg) of EPA and DHA. This means it comply the daily dosage recommended by the American Heart Association. However, you should always bear in mind that fish oil supplements are basically dietary supplements, not drugs.Studies shows that many people are getting too much of the wrong kinds of fats found in animals (saturated fats) and vegetables (polyunsaturated fats), and need the fish oil to “balance” the family of fat nutrients. Intake of the wrong kinds of fats should be lowered to total 20 to 30 percent of daily calorie serving while fats found in the oils of certain fish should be appreciably increased.

Fish oil prevents and/or alleviates heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis and migraine, headaches, may be protective against cancer, immune deficiency diseases, kidney disease and others. It also have two special nutrients that protect the heart and arteries, reduce pain, inflammation and swelling, and protect cell membranes. Omega-3 EFAs found in oily fishes are believed to be essential for the healthy development of brain, retina, and nervous tissue among fetus and infant.During pregnancy these fatty acids are transferred from the mother’s tissues to the fetus. However, the FDA has strict guidelines on eating fish during pregnancy because of the possibility of mercury or other toxic substances that may contain in fishes and the best solution is to take fish oil as food supplement

Over the past 30 years more than 7,000 scientific studies have provided evidence supporting the effectiveness of fish oil and omega-3 EFAs in the prevention and treatment of our most common diseases. Hundreds of clinical trials support the efficacy of fish oil’s omega-3 essential fatty acids in preventing, mitigating, and remedying an incredible range of health conditions. Some scientific and medical communities however are resisting to these facts and still support pharmacological treatment.

As a traditional dietary supplement that encourages good health,it is a preventive medicine but as a natural alternative to NSAIDs or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and other pharmacological and medical treatments, it is complementary medicine. With all the undergoing studies to prove its affectivity, fish is on the threshold of crossing over into traditional Western medicine.

How Fish Oil Can Cure Inflammation:

Inflammation occurs as our body’s natural protective response to fend off any outside aggressors and to begin the process of healing. Its effect on our tissues usually involves pain, heat and redness. However, there are some cases that this outward effect is not visible.

Inflammation is a double-edges sword; its effect can be helpful or harmful depending on the circumstances. When an inflammation is in chronic state, devastating consequences are likely to happen like arthritis, heart disease or stroke. It usually happens when the cause of inflammation is continually reintroduced or if the acute inflammatory response is not able to eliminate it. This situation is very likely to happen nowadays because of our exposure to implausible amounts of toxins.

Some of these toxins can be avoided like poor food choices, smoking, and prolonged sun exposure. While some things arise from things from things we don’t have control like genetics, accidents and pollution. Inasmuch as there are factors you can’t help being exposed to unnecessary and harmful factors detrimental to your good health, you can also take food supplements effective in strengthening your body against the sometimes lethal effect of inflammation. The most effective food supplement according to recent studies happens to be fish oil.

The prevalence of destructive or chronic inflammation among Western countries makes it imperative for many specialists to deal with preventive measures. The reason behind this is that the Western population is more exposed to stress, obesity and poor health in general. Many pharmacological anti-inflammatory drugs offer reduction of inflammation, however, long-term medication have potentially lethal side effects.

So what is your safest option if you have inflammation? Research on alternative medicines revealed that certain dietary supplements can help reduce levels of pro-inflammatory factors, with significantly lower side effects. One of these dietary supplements is the essential fatty acids or EFAs.

Essential fatty acids are necessary for various aspects of normal physiology like: mediating immune response, regulating bodily secretions and their viscosity, dilating and constricting blood vessels, regulating collateral circulation, directing endocrine hormones to their target cells, regulating smooth muscles and autonomic reflexes, being primary constituents of cell membranes, regulating the rate of cell division, maintaining the fluidity and rigidity of cellular membranes, regulating the flow of substances into and out from cells, transporting oxygen from red blood cells to the tissues, maintaining proper kidney function and fluid balance, keeping saturated fats mobile in the bloodstream, preventing blood clots, mediating the release of inflammatory eicosanoids that may trigger allergic conditions, and regulating nerve transmission and communication. (Source: Fish Oil: The Natural Anti-inflammatory by Joseph C. Maroon and Jeffrey Bost, 2006, page 39).

For this reason, it is very important for over-all health to have a regular intake of foods rich in omega-6 or omega-3 EFAs. The omega-3 pathway, activated by trauma, injury, or chemical stimulus, is the process of converting the omega-3 EFAs found in the cell membranes to various eicosanoids. If the omega-3 EFA components of the cell membranes become dominant, an anti-inflammatory state can result, with preventive health benefits.

Fish is the best source of the omega-3 essential fatty acids. But why fish oil, you might ask? The needed nutrients can also be found in green plants; algae (phytoplankton); leaves and seeds of the perilla plants; and linseed oil but fish oil is considered the most important dietary source of omega-3 EFAs because it contains concentrated amounts of the ALA derivatives with APA and DHA.

The two mentioned nutrients can almost exclusively found in seafood. Fish contains high amount of EPA and DHA because they are at the top of food chain based on algae, a single-marine organism that manufactures huge amount of EPA and DHA.

Surprising Benefits Of Using Fish Oil:

The known benefits of fish oil are not just limited to the more common conditions. Of course, many people have already known how using fish oil may help improve skin health and reduce the risk of heart disease. But there are also surprising benefits that it seem to offer to those who regularly consume them. Here are just some of them.

Depression And Anxiety People may not be aware of it, but fish seems to help put people in a good mood. In fact, many studies have shown that fish oil may be beneficial in trying to help treat depression and anxiety in people. Thanks to the omega 3 fatty acids contained in fish, it seems a good means to relieve anxiety, depression, stress and sadness in people.

Fish seems to have good mood stabilizing properties that make them quite interesting as a treatment for depression and other related conditions. Evidence suggests that countries where oily fish such as salmon is regularly eaten also seem to have low incidence of depression. Similar studies involving prisoners have also shown that having them on a diet rich in omega 3 fatty acids resulted in a significant drop in homicide rates. Although more studies may be needed in order for such findings to be conclusive, it already shows some good evidences of the other surprising benefits of fish oil.

Cancer Fighter It may seem quite surprising enough that fish oil may also benefit patients with certain forms of cancer. Preliminary studies have shown that fish oil may be useful in trying to delay the weight loss in people suffering from pancreatic cancer. Still further research may be needed to solidify this claim as well as how oily fish may affect certain types of cancers.

Type II Diabetes Some studies also have shown positive findings on the effect of fish oil in Type II diabetes. Since people suffering from this form of diabetes are also prone to developing diseases such as coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis and stroke, medical experts believe that taking fish oil supplements may also help in trying to reduce such risks in diabetics. Some studies have already shown that fish oil may also be effective in lowering triglyceride levels in people with diabetes.

Pregnancy Fish oil might also be able to help women bear healthier children. Taking the oil supplements may help pregnant women ensure the healthy development of their child while still in the womb. The DHA found in fish oil is known to help babies undergo healthy eye and brain development. Pregnant women who are also taking the oil supplements run fewer risks of having premature births, miscarriage or delivering babies with low birth weights. As an added benefit, pregnant women who regularly take fish oil supplements run lesser risks of getting into depression following the baby’s delivery.

Fertility Fish oil supplements may also help in improving fertility. In a study done on male boars, those who were fed with a diet rich in fish oils were able to show better sperm quality. After ejaculation, the sperm from the boars fed with fish oil seem to resist the effects of lipid peroxidative attacks in the female boar genital tract, giving the sperm higher chances of conception.

The Benefits of Fish Oil Supplements: The benefits of fish oil supplements should not be outweighed the need to understand how these supplements should work or provide essential nutrients for the human body.

Although it is a general notion for nutrition experts to insist on regular food as the common and most basic source of vitamins and minerals important for the human body, oil supplements, be it in liquid or solid form, are needed to ensure a holistic enrichment and nourishment for the body.

Fish oil supplementation is ideally beneficial by providing for what the regular or daily diet may not provide, it can also be a preventive measure against diseases and illnesses.

Essentially, fish supplements are meant to complement a diet, not as a substitute for it, as what many believe to be the case. Since plant foods still contain many nutrients, among them phytochemicals, that still cannot be substituted or generated through synthetic means.

Why the need for fish oil supplements? Take for instance these circumstances;

Infants that are being breast-fed need to have their regular source of iron, especially when they reach their four to six months, since breast milk only provides little iron. This is where iron supplementation comes in with baby milk formula or alternative sources like fortified cereal meals or baby food.

Children also need fluoride supplementation to strengthen teeth and prevent tooth decay.

Pregnant women need multivitamin-mineral supplementation, to ensure that their nutrient levels are met for the development of the fetus inside the womb. Among those that need supplementation are increased levels of folate to prevent birth defects, as well as increased amounts of vitamins like B6.

You Gotta Love Fish Oil

One has gotta love fish oil. If you think that I’m kidding then go pick it up. Those who shun fishes like mackerel, tuna and salmon due to some personal and at times even weird preferences might have second thoughts, by going for fresh fish which has oil in them for vit. B6 supplement for your good health to come up.

Side Effects Of Blood Pressure Medications

All blood pressure medication should lower blood pressure but in addition they can produce some undesirable side effects. Type of medication alter basic body functions not only in the blood vessels but in the nervous system and kidneys as well. Because all of the systems in the body are interconnected even drugs that effect only one type of molecule in the body will produce some type of side effect.

Beta Blockers:

A common type of blood pressure medication like beta blockers are used to control cardiac arrhythmia or irregular heart beat. Beta blockers limit the ability of the heart to beat faster and as a result they reduce the ability of a person to exercise. Fatigue and the ability to react to the basic flight or fight response during an emergency situation is severely reduced. In June of 2006 the United Kingdom downgraded the use of beta-blockers for the elderly because of the increased risk of provoking type 2 diabetes. Other drugs were found to be much better in controlling high blood pressure.

Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors:

Lisinopril is in a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is used to lower blood pressure by decreasing certain chemicals in the blood that tighten the blood vessels. In other words, lisinopril will dilate the blood vessels so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently using less pressure. It is also used to treat congestive heart failure and to improve the survival rate after a heart attack. The most common side effect of Lisinopril is a violent, non-productive cough, dizziness, fatigue and flue like symptoms. Another side effect, though not very common but it is dangerous is a pounding or uneven heartbeat.

Diuretics are used to treat blood pressure problems by stimulating the kidneys to flush excess fluid and sodium from the human body. Less blood volume allows the heart to move the blood easier throughout the body. Loss of potassium, dry mouth and dehydration are the most common side effects of diuretics.

Calcium Channel Blockers:

Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) keeps the blood vessels and heart from absorbing calcium which causes the blood vessels to relax. Calcium causes the heart to contract and the blood vessels to contract. CCBs are also used to slow the heart rate and are used for treating an abnormally rapid heart rate. The most common side effect of calcium channel blockers are headache, nausea, constipation, rash, dizziness and fluid retention.

Alpha Blockers:

Alpha blockers stop certain nerve impulses to the blood vessels causing the vessels to relax. Alpha blockers stop a natural hormone called nor-epinephrine from stimulating the muscles in the walls of the of the smaller blood vessels. The most common side effect of alpha blockers is low blood pressure, dizziness, headache, pounding heart beat, nausea, fatigue, fluid retention and an increase of the cholesterol levels in the blood. Some alpha blockers can increase the risk of heart failure with long term use.

Vasodilators directly cause the muscles in the blood vessels walls to relax thus preventing the muscles from tightening and the walls of the blood vessels from narrowing. Side effects of vasodilators are headache, nasal congestion, chest pain, rapid hear beat, pounding heart beat, fluid retention and dizziness. Long term use increase the risk of developing a connective tissue disease called lupus.

Common Vitamins and over the counter products can help with high blood pressure such as diuretics, copper, vitamin B, vitamin A, Quercitin, Potassium, Lecithin and Iron.

Natural diuretics are contained in cranberries, anything that has caffeine and apple cider vinegar. Fruits and vegetables such as watermelon and cucumbers contain a lot of water and will help increase urination. If you are taking COUMADIN then check with your doctor before using cranberry.

There is strong evidence that trace mineral Copper is vital to the tensile strength of the coronary blood vessels.

Vitamin B taken together as a team perform vital biological processes including aiding in the healing process for congestive heart failure and reduces fluid retention. It is required for the development of red blood cells.

Vitamin C has show to reduce cholesterol levels and lowers high blood pressure.

Quercitin is a well known flavonoid. Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants and can reduce inflammation boost the immune system and strengthen blood vessels and improve circulation. Quercitin is also known for its ability to block the release of histamines, thus reducing or preventing allergy symptoms. Take 500 mg twice daily.

Potassium may help prevent high blood pressure and protect against atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of stroke.

Lecithin has the potential to protect against fat clogged arteries when take daily.

Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying substance in red blood cells. Iron is vital for the production of blood by the bone marrow. The single most common cause of anemia is the lack of Iron.

Lifestyle changes can also lower the risk of medical emergencies do to arteriosclerosis. Quit smoking, eat healthy foods, weight loss and get regular exercise. This treatment is often problematic for many to achieve and continue for the long term.

Lower Blood Pressure With Exercise

Welcome news to the many who suffer from hypertension. Exercise has been shown to cut the chance of death in a recent 12-year study. What’s more, the team also saw that inactivity upped the chance of death, as potent a threat as a rise in blood pressure readings by 40 to 50 points. Fortunately, you can address this risk and lower blood pressure with exercise.

You’ve probably heard hypertension described as the “silent killer”, and it’s a good name. People can have the condition for years, without symptoms or even knowing anything is wrong, yet the condition quietly does its damage while increasing the chances of heart attack or devastating stroke. This is one of the reasons medical professionals encourage annual exams – once a problem like high blood pressure is identified, it can be treated so that you stay healthier.

The reason that’s important is because hypertension is known to be one of the preventable risks for early death from cardiovascular disease the world over. Cardiovascular disease risk goes up dramatically as those blood pressure numbers rise. In fact, hypertension contributes to almost half of all diagnoses of heart disease – with risk increasing for each 10 point increase in diastolic (bottom number) blood pressure.

This most recent research quantifies the impact of activity on those who have high blood pressure, and included over 434,000 subjects in Taiwan. Of these, 54% were considered inactive, 22% were classified as having low activity levels, another 24% were found to have moderate to even high levels of activity. The chance of death from all things (specifically cardiovascular disease) was higher for those subjects who were classed as inactive in comparison to subjects who were active, no matter what their blood pressure results were.

Getting those numbers down where they should be in order to prevent heart disease is the goal of all doctors. The study researchers suggest that doctors and patients not focus so much on the numbers, but rather the findings of this study should encourage physicians to discuss how important being active is as a way to manage both heart disease and risk of death.

It’s well known that those who are active live longer and feel better. And all it takes is 30 minutes of moderately intense activity as many days of the week as possible – at least 5 for starters. To be successful in lowering blood pressure with exercise over the long term you need to find the right workout – an activity that you enjoy or that you can do with a supportive friend. And, if it’s been a while since you were active on a regular basis, talk to your doctor first, then start slow and build in small steps. Before long you’ll be amazed at how far you’ve come and how great you feel.

Two Forms of Fat Within the Body

The typical arterial wall is made up of three basic layers. There are also two forms of fat within the body which can be classified into low density protein and high density protein. The first one is considered a fat molecule, which can penetrate the arterial wall and venture deep into the arterial layers.

There are multiple functions that happen within our body which we are not aware of and atherosclerosis is one such function. It begins with the buildup of fat which is accumulated within the arterial wall which is dependent on the general condition of the arterial wall as well as concentration of the increased quantity of fat levels present in the body. This fat penetrates through the arterial wall and undergoes a mechanism called oxidation which converts the fat molecules into substance which is dangerous to the body and triggers the inflammation process. At this stage, white blood cells called monocytes move from the bloodstream into the arterial wall and start the inflammatory response. This result in cells referred to as macrophages which swallow the oxidized fat molecules, and once this is done, these cells turn into what is referred to as foam cells.

The problem is that often, these foam cells can burst releasing the contents of the cell onto the arterial wall. When this happens regularly, the foam cell will form fibrous material which helps increase the frequency of arteries plaque growth which results from the protein in the arterial wall and can impact the membranes as well.

In the initial phase, this growth allows the walls of the artery to hold only a certain amount blood thereby maintaining a noteworthy but reduced blood flow. This being the case, the tests will reveal only those artery plaques which bulge into the center of the arterial lumen and are not just building up. This happens as the plaque is located deep within the layers. Therefore the results of medical tests cannot be considered as conclusive while determining the growth of plaque and the advent of atherosclerosis in the body.

When the plaque continues to grow, the arterial wall ends up being unable to cope with the growth and forces the atherosclerosis deposit to push into the center of the vessel. Normally, this is found when the plaque growth reaches around 40%. However, the concern at this point would be bursting or dislodging of plaque which could result from swelling of plaque.

It is normally found that unstable plaques burst, particularly those that contain a large amount of lipids covered by weak fibrous layers. Often, these plaques cannot be identified as they are located within the arterial walls and have not pushed into the arterial lumen.

If the plaque bursts, the lipid content is brought into contact with blood, which can result in the growth of blood clots. If the vessel is completely blocked for at least two hours, this can cause a serious condition called myocardial infarction, more commonly known as a heart attack.
