How Painful Headaches Can Be Caused by Computer Neck

What is Computer Neck and why does it cause your head to hurt?

There are a number of reasons to get this type of problem, and working a desk job is one of the most notable. There are 8 small muscles under the base of the occiput (the big bumpy part on the back of your head). These muscles are called the suboccipitals because they are connected underneath the occiput.

They are small but responsible for a lot of work lugging an 18-20 lb head around. When you tilt your head down to read something on your desk, or more so when jutting your chin forward to look at the computer screen, these muscles are hard at work. These movements are often over exaggerated in the work place and done repetitively all day long. This leads to strain and overuse. Often the tension or pain will creep down into the shoulders. Sometimes it finds its way up to the back of the head or even across the scalp to just above your eyebrows. By the time this happens, you're probably already in the grasp of a headache.

You mean there are more side effects?

As a side effect of these repetitive neck motions the muscles on the sides and front of the neck will often get sore and tight as well. These flat muscles are called the scalenes. Once they become tight, they tend to continue being tight until massaged out. Because of the location, it's really hard and impractical to try and stretch them. It's not uncommon to feel a burning or pulling sensation when a massage therapist measures deep tissue work and trigger point therapy on them, however, you'll probably be grateful when it's done.

Slumping can cause pain

This is by far the most common structural issue I have come across with headache clients. These 8 little muscles get so overworked that they can not help but end up in spasms and develop trigger points. Trigger points (TrP) can develop in tight or damaged muscle tissue and often show up as nodules (knots) of bundled tissue. When pressed and released, they can release the pain pattern across a whole muscle or muscle group.

Your spine can be twisted or injured which will trigger a headache

I find that my clients also store a lot of emotional baggage in the muscles of the shoulders and neck. By far and large, headaches of this nature are the most common ones mistaken for migraines, and much more frequently than you might think. Most of my "migraine" sufferers do not generally seem to have the symptoms of migraines and are "fixed" by tension head techniques within minutes.

What do I do to diffuse the headache?

I like to work the neck with my client lying on their back. With the head being as heavy as it is, I can use gravity to get good pressure into the muscles. I like to perform a couple of stretches like the one mentioned in # 2 above. The passive stretching is done much easier by someone else, which lets you focus on relaxing. Typically, I'll combine multiple techniques such as steady direct pressure, hot towels, and essential oils to address the problem from all the angles I can fit into a session. Muscles really respond to multiple techniques at once.

So what can you do right now for this pain? A slow series of exercises can treat headache pain.

1. Lie back in a tall chair or on a bed to allow your neck muscles to rest and recover at night.

2. From a standing position , drop your chin to your chest and let gravity stretch out those muscles for 30-90 sec. You can also make big, slow, full circles with your neck to loosen things up.

3. Get 2 tennis balls and put them in a long sock and tie it off so they do not roll around or slip. Lie down with the tennis balls nuzzled up under the base of your head on either side of your spine. Lay there (as long as it's comfortable) up to 2-5 min. Gravity will take your head and apply pressure to those muscles with the tennis balls. * hint – depending on your size / structure, you may need to hold the tennis balls with your hands to keep them from sliding under the weight of your head.

4. Use a tool such as a Thera Cane or an accu-massager to pinpoint tension in this area and release the trigger points (tight bundles of muscle, TrP). Find these bunched up "knots" and apply pressure slowly for up to 1-2 minutes at a time to get them to let go.

5. You can us Essential Oils to heal and relax Computer Neck. Use a drop or two of Therapeutic grade peppermint essential oil on the chin or under the nose and / or rub 2-4 drops on the base of the head under the occiput. The scent of peppermint has been shown to reduce or tie heads. The oil itself has been shown to absorb into the skin and relax musculature.

6. Use an ice pack. Put an ice pack or cool towel across your forehead and under the base of the head at the occiput.

So whether you work in a desk job or slip in front of a tv, you now have a solution for "Computer Neck" headaches.

Chronic Pancreatitis Could Mean Liver and Gallbladder Problems

What should you do after you or a loved one has been discharged from the hospital after an attack of acute pancreatitis? Should you try to get on with your life and prepare the pancreatitis attack did not happen?

Each year, a large number of people are hospitalized with acute pancreatitis, a mysterious and painful swilling of the pancreas. Once the initial symptoms have subsided (pain, nausea, bloating, fever and so on) they are frequently discharged without receiving further treatment information about the underlying causes of their pancreatitis.

Once discharged, these people frequently resume the very lifestyle that led to pancreatitis in the first place. Consequently, there is a high risk of them having a second attack of acute pancreatitis. And statistics show that many people who have had one to two attacks of acute pancreatitis go on to contract the chronic form of this condition.

Therefore, the first attack of acute pancreatitis should be a signal to people to change their diet and their lifestyle because chronic pancreatitis is a much more intense and complicated disease. And patients should also learn about and focus on liver health.

The health of the liver is inextricably bound up with the health of the pancreas. To understand the liver / pancreas connection it is necessary to recognize that all of the organs of the upper GI tract (such as the stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas and duodenum) work together as a group. If any single organ fails, then the whole system is thrown out of order. Digestive hormones and the nervous system are also vital to the proper functioning of the GI tract.

The liver fulfills many vital tasks. Most importantly the liver manufactures and releases bile. Bile facilitates the process of digestion. Everything we eat makes its way to the liver, and the liver uses the food to produce vital nutrients for our cells – and for our whole body!

The liver also removes toxins from our body. There are two types of toxins: water-soluble substances and fat-soluble substances. The liver makes water-soluble waste less toxic and releases it into the bloodstream. The blood then moves the waste to the kidneys for elimination from the body. The liver moves the fat-soluble wastes into the bile to be broken down before moving the wastes through the small and large intestines and out of the body.

The proper functioning of bile is therefore very important for removing wastes from the body. The process starts when liver cells secret bile into a network of small ducts. These many small ducts meet to form the common bile duct, which carries bile from the gallbladder and liver.

The common bile duct then joins with the pancreatic duct. The pancreatic duct carries the pancreatic juice containing digestive enzymes from the pancreas into small cavity, the Ampulla of Vater. It is very important that the pressure in the pancreatic duct is always higher than the pressure in the bile duct so that bile can not reach the pancreatic cells. A blend of bile and pancreatic juice goes through the Ampulla of Vater into the duodenum.

In the duodenum's wall there is a valve called the Sphinster of Oddi. The Sphinster of Oddi controls secretions from the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder moving into the duodenum section of the small intestine. It is necessary to keep this valve functioning properly.

Spasm or blockage of the Sphinster of Oddi may cause pancreatic juice to back up, thereby increasing the pressure inside the pancreatic duct. Digestive enzymes trapped inside the pancreas start to digest pancreatic cells, causing congestion, inflammation, pain, cysts and finally the death of pancreatic tissue.

There are a wide variety of health issues that can cause the bile to be thick and make it difficult for the bile to move through the ducts, including: Hepatitis, fatty liver, parasites, congestion, infection, infection and other liver and gallbladder problems .

Gallbladder stones can also block bile movement, increasing the pressure into the Ampulla of Vater and backing up the pancreatic juices. This is a condition that doctors call biliary pancreatic reflux. There are many causes of gallbladder stones, including: poor eating habits, body acidity, hormonal changes, lack of exercise, or being overweight or obese. The size of gallbladder stones can range up from the size of a piece of sand.

Liver, Gallbladder, and Pancreatic disorders are difficult to treat with conventional Western medicine. Yet it is important to care for chronic pancreatitis because it is associated with a reduction in life expectancy.

Complementary allopathic and non-drug therapy can prevent the exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis and improve quality of a patient's life. Many of the alternative therapies listed below can help decrease pressure inside the pancreas, promote proper digestion, lessen inflammation, and alleviate pain.

o A prescribed alkaline diet and healing foods
o Herbal medicine
o Acupuncture
o Nutritional supplementation
o Point massage and chiropractic adjustment
o Drinking Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water made from the Genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring salt
o Relaxation techniques, hypnosis, and self-hypnosis by using a CD at home
o Colon hydrotherapy, which can restore friendly intestinal flora
o Anti-Candida program

Many of these modalities could be safe and effective combine with medicines, surgeries, endoscopic operations, physical therapies, etc. Today medical practitioners look at the chronic pancreatitis and make different point of view on cause, development and possible treatment of this disease according to their own specialty. But today successful treatment of chronic pancreatitis is generally difficult and requires different approaches.

For example, one of these approaches has been used for 250 years and has a great deal of scientifically research by European doctors. This is drinking of healing mineral water prepared from the Genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt. This therapy is still extremely unknown in the United States and Canada, since its popularity among doctors and patients in Europe.

How it is work? This healing mineral water preparation from the genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt stimulates the stomach and small intestine (duodenum) for releasing the digestive hormones. These digestive hormones regulate the entire digestion, promote secretion and elimination of bile and the pancreatic juices, and control the proper function of the bile and the pancreatic ducts and valves.

Beside that, Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water supplies the pancreas with the minerals, trace elements and bicarbonates – the main ingredients of the pancreatic juices. Healing mineral water preparation from the genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt may help with two major problems: pancreatic inflation and pancreatic insufficiency.

By dissolving the vaporized spring salt in warm water at home (salt is available in North America), one can produce the same healing mineral water found in Karlovy Vary healing mineral spa. Czech doctors determined that the water manufactured from the genuine Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt has the same healing properties as the water from the spring.

European doctors and scientists found also that the healing mineral water can promote secretion and increase the activity of pancreatic enzymes in healthy volunteers, people with chronic pancreatitis, even in patients after surgeries.
In all these studies, Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water increased not only the amount of pancreatic juices and activity of digestive enzymes, but also decrees the pressure inside the pancreatic duct.

These beneficial actions of Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water promote healing chronic pancreatitis and other pancreatic problems.

Water simultaneously relieves digestive disorders, strengthens the digestive system, normalizes the acid-alkaline balance and improves the metabolism of proteins, fats, and carbohydrates.
It's most important actions are:

o Enhancing the liver function by increasing the production, releasing and flow of bile,
o Promoting the function of pancreatic gland by manufacturing and Releasing of pancreatic enzymes,
o Supporting the slightly alkaline environment for proper function of digestive enzymes,
o Stimulating peristalsis of the intestines,
o Restoring the friendly intestinal flora,
o Preventing of stagnation of food in the digestive tract,
o Normalizing body's acid- alkaline balance, etc.

These effects are caused by beneficial complex composition of potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, sulfates, bicarbonates, chlorides, and a lot of trace minerals such as zinc, cobalt, selenium, lithium, copper and more in ionic form.

According to European doctors drinking Karlovy Vary water made from the Genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt alleviates inflammation, pain, dyspepsia, malabsorption, and loss of fat with stool (steatorrhea).

Karlovy Vary water made from the Genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt is a safe and effective non-drug alternative remedy for chronic pancreatitis and can improve the quality of life and life span of sufferers of chronic pancreatitis.

Magnesium Chloride For Health and Rejuvenation

"Magnesium is nothing short of a miracle mineral in its healing effect on a wide range of diseases as well as in its ability to rejuvenate the aging body. for the health of the brain and nervous system and also for healthy teeth and bones. However, it may come as a surprise that in the form of magnesium chloride it is also an impressive infection fighter.

The above statement by Walter Last (1) is no exaggeration in summarizing the overriding importance of magnesium for our health. It is doubly true because the magnesium take with our food has greatly declined due to the use of inorganic fertilizers with an oversupply of calcium, and also because the medical profession overemphasises our need for a high calcium intake and excess calcium supplement at the expense of magnesium . While calcium and magnesium work together in the body, they are also opposites in their effects on our metabolism. This is large due to the activity of the parathyroid glands which try to keep the combined product of calcium and magnesium in our blood steady and balanced against phosphorus. If magnesium levels are low then calcium levels need to rise to remain in balance. Where does this extra calcium come from? From the bones and teeth of course! This is even more of a problem when the parathyroids are chronically overstimulated, usually combined with an underactive thyroid. This is a common situation with the presence of Candidiasis, mercury fillings and root canal fillings; all appear to depress thyroid functions and overstimulate the parathyroids. What does the body do with the excess calcium in the blood? It dumps it into tissue where there is some chronic inflammation. This leads, for instance, to the classification of joints as in arthritis, to the calcification of ovaries and other glands resulting in decreasing hormone production, while calcifying kidneys ever require dialysis, and calcifications in breast tissue, especially the milk ducts, lead to unnecessary mastectomies and other invasive treatment.

Magnesium for Healthy Bones and Teeth

Medical authorities claim that the widespread incidence of osteoporosis and tooth decay in western countries can be preceded with a high calcium intake. However, published evidence reveals that the opposite is true. Asian and African populations with a very low intake of about 300mg of calcium daily have very little osteoporosis. Bantu women with an intake of 200 to 300mg of calcium daily have the lowest incidence of osteoporosis in the world. In western countries with a high intake of dairy products the average calcium intake is about 1000mg. The higher the calcium intake, especially in the form of cows' milk products (except butter) the higher the incidence of osteoporosis. Calcium, magnesium and phosphorus levels are kept in a seesaw balance by the parathyroid hormones. If calcium goes up, magnesium goes down and vice versa. With a low magnesium intake, calcium goes out of the bones to increase tissue levels, while a high magnesium intake causes calcium to go out of the tissues into the bones. A high phosphorus intake without a high calcium or magnesium intake causes calcium to leach from the bones and leave the body with the urine. A high phosphorus intake with high calcium and magnesium leads to bone mineralization. Dr Lewis B. Barnett, an orthopedic surgeon practiced in two different US Counties with very different soil and water mineral levels. In Dallas County with a high calcium and low magnesium concentration osteoporosis and hip fractures were very common, while in Hereford with high magnesium and low calcium these were almost absent.

In Dallas County the magnesium content of bones was 0.5% while in Hereford it was 1.76%. In another comparison the magnesium content in bones of osteoporosis sufferers was 0.62% while in healthy individuals it was 1.26% (9). The same applies for healthy teeth. In a New Zealand study it was found that caries-resistant teeth had on average twice the amount of magnesium as caries-prone teeth. The average concentration of magnesium phosphate in bones is given as about 1%, in teeth about 1.5%, in elephant tusks 2% and in the teeth of carnivorous animals made to crush bones it is 5%. In regard to the strength of bones and teeth think of calcium as chalk and of magnesium as superglue. The magnesium superglue binds and transforms the chalk into superior bones and teeth (9). One patient reported to Walter Last "My Doctor rang Friday afternoon re my Bone Density Scan and wanted to know what I have been doing over the last two years. Scan had improved, she could not believe it, and said normally when you are in the Osteoporosis range, you do not come out of it "(10). That doctor was actually saying that she knew the accepted treatment of high calcium supplementation doesnt work, but they use it anyway. This patient had reversed the medical treatment by lowering calcium and greatly increasing magnesium intake (in addition to boron).

Magnesium Absorption and Dosage

A solution to this problem is to lower calcium levels in the blood by keeping up a high intake of magnesium. However, any excess magnesium is quickly lost with the urine. Therefore, to keep calcium in the bones and teeth rather than around the joints and in the soft tissue, we need a steady supply of magnesium. Traditionally magnesium in our diet has been mainly in ionic form and has been converted in the stomach into magnesium chloride, or it is bound to protein and specifically chlorophyll, and then it is also broken down and ends up for absorption as magnesium chloride or chelated magnesium . Therefore when supplementing we may as well use magnesium chloride directly instead of magnesium oxide or hydroxide and other forms that require additional hydrochloric acid. Magnesium chloride also has another advantage: it provides ions of magnesium and chloride which are both required to stimulate the activity of digestive enzymes and for producing hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Magnesium sulphate, also known as Epsom salts, is poorly absorbed and therefore joins water in the colon and functions as a laxative. In nature, and if grown in mineral-rich soils, magnesium is also bound to fruit acids, such as citric acid, and is easily absorbed in this form. While most forms of magnesium have a good bioavailability, chelates with amino acids and magnesium bound to fruit acids also have a beneficial alkalising effect on the body. The efficiency of magnesium absorption varies inversely with quantity of magnesium intake. Magnesium is absorbed into the body primarily from the ileum of the small intestine.

When consuming the RDI (recommended Dietary Intake) of magnesium, which is between 360 and 410mg a day, we absorb approximately 50% of magnesium, but when ingesting sub-optimal quantities we may absorb as much as 75%. Absorption decreases rapidly when more than 200mg is consumed at one time, therefore the importance of taking magnesium in divided doses through the day. Magnesium chloride is salty-bitter. To get used to it, dissolve some in water and start mixing only a few drops with your meal. Gradually over several weeks or months increase it to a teaspoon of concentrated solution daily divided between meals. Alternately you may drink it very diluted during a meal. This provides about 500mg of magnesium daily. With signs of increased requirements, such as stress, advancing age, cardiovascular problems and other signs of calcium up to1000mg are recommended by health practitioners. The intestinal absorption of magnesium declines with aging and the presence of gastrointestinal disorders, and especially with dysbiosis caused by antibiotics and other medical drugs. Excessive loss of magnesium in urine can also be a side effect of some medical drugs. (4) A study shows that over two-thirds of Americans do not consume even the low level of the RDI of magnesium, and 19% use less than one-half of this (3). It is obvious that conditions are not much better in Australia. It may take up to 3 month or longer of oral magnesium supplementation to replenish intracellular magnesium status, and according to Dr. Norm Shealy it can take up to a year. (9)

Magnesium Oil in Transdermal Therapy

All these problems make it more attractive to use magnesium chloride transdermally (absorption through the skin), and so bypassing the digestive system with the need for hydrochloric acid and a well functioning digestive tract. Magnesium chloride consists of 11.8% magnesium bound to 88.2% chloride. It is produced through evaporation from saline waters, mainly sea water and the Dead Sea. After removal of sodium chloride the "bittern" remains containing mainly magnesium chloride and magnesium sulphate. (2). Chloride is much less bitter than sulphate. In the dry form magnesium chloride is usually sold hydrated with 6 molecules of water (hexahydrate) for each unit of magnesium with 2 chloride ions (MgCl2), and consist of white hygroscopic (water-attracting) flakes. This affinity to water leads itself to be used as a product called "Magnesium Oil", which can be applied to the skin as a transdermal magnesium therapy. It is not oil in the true sense, but has the feel of oil when rubbed on the skin. Rejuvenation by ingesting more magnesium is a slow process, especially as the amount of magnesium that we can take is limited by its laxative effect and the need to keep it in a reasonable balance with the calcium and phosphorus intake. The other problem is that spastic muscles have a poor blood and lymph circulation, which makes it difficult for the ingested magnesium to dissolve and flush out the tissue and joint calcifications. This then calls for the use of magnesium oil. We can greatly speed up the rejuvenation process by increasing the circulation through permanently contracted muscles as with deep tissue massage using magnesium oil, or using it as hot packs or just for frequent rubs. However, one needs to be careful with sensitive skin as it may sting for a while. In this case best dilute it to an acceptable level. If rubbed on in a rather diluted form it may gradually disappear into the skin, but in concentrated form it just remains sticky and needs to be washed or shaved off after some time. However, with many conditions, such as arthritis and other forms of stiffness and pain it can be good to put on some old cloths and keep it on overnight.

Antimicrobial Action of Magnesium

We can see here that magnesium is a great infection fighter as well, which none of the other magnesium combination can claim to be. The first promoter researcher to investigate and promote the antibiotic effects of magnesium was a French surgeon, Pierre Delbet MD. In 1915 he was looking for a solution to cleanse wounds of soldiers, because he found that traditionally used antiseptics actually damaged tissues and encaged infections instead of preventing them. In all his tests magnesium chloride solution was by far the best. Not only was it harmless for tissues, but it also greatly increased leucocyte activity and phagocytosis, the destruction of microbes (5). Later Prof. Delbet also performed experiments with the internal applications of magnesium chloride and found it to be a powerful immune-stimulant. In his experiments phagocytosis increased by up to 333%. This means after magnesium chloride take the same number of white blood cells destroyed up to three times more microbes than before (5). Gradually Prof. Delbet found magnesium chloride to be beneficial in a wide range of diseases. These included diseases of the digestive tract such as colitis and gall bladder problems, Parkinson's disease, tremors and muscle cramps; acne, eczema, psoriasis, warts and itching skin; impotence, prostatic hypertrophy, cerebral and circulatory problems; asthma, hay fever, urticaria and anaphylactic reactions. Hair and nails became stronger and healthier and patients had more energy (5). Prof. Delbet also found a very good preventive effect on cancer and cured precancerous conditions such as leukoplasia, hyperkeratosis and chronic mastitis. Epidemiological studies confirmed that regions with magnesium-rich soil had less cancer than those with low magnesium levels. Researchers at the Lille Pasteur Institute found in a prospective study with over 4,000 men over an 18-year follow up period that high levels of magnesium were associated with a 50% reduction in cancer mortality, and a 40% reduction in cardiovascular and all-cause mortality (5). Prof. Delbet used to give magnesium chloride solution routinely to his patients with infections and for several days before any planned surgery and was surprised by many of these patients experiencing euphoria and bursts of energy.

Magnesium chloride supposedly has a specific action on the tetanus virus and its effects on the body. It even seems to be protective against snakebites. Guinea pigs did not die after normally lethal injections of snake venom and a rabbit survived a poisonous snakebite when given magnesium chloride solution (5). Another French doctor, A. Neveu, cured several diphtheria patients with magnesium chloride within two days. He also published 15 cases of poliomyelitis that were cured within days if treatment was started immediately or within months if paralysis had already progressed. Neveu also found magnesium chloride effective with asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia and emphysema; pharyngitis, tonsillitis, hoarseness, common cold, influenza, whooping cough, measles, rubella, mumps, scarlet fever; poisoning, gastroenteritis, boils, abscesses, whitlow, infected wounds and osteomyelitis (5). In more recent years Dr Vergini and others have confirmed these earlier results and have added diseases to the list of successful uses: acute asthma attacks, shock, tetanus, herpes zoster, acute and chronic conjunctivitis, optic neuritis, rheumatic diseases, many allergic diseases , Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and beneficial effects in cancer therapy. In all of these cases magnesium chloride had been used and made much better results than other magnesium compounds. (5)

Magnesium for Nerves.

Magnesium has a calming effect on the nervous system. With this, it is frequently used to promote good sleep. But more importantly, it can be used to calm irritated and over-excited nerves. This is especially useful with epileptic seizures, convulsions in pregnant women and the 'shakes' in alcoholism. Magnesium levels are generally low in alcoholics, contributing or causing many of their health problems. If magnesium levels are low, the nerves lose control over muscle activity, respiration and mental processes. Nervous fatigue, tics and twitches, tremors, irritability, hypersensitivity, muscle spasms, restlessness, anxiety, confusion, disorientation and irregular heartbeat all respond to increased magnesium levels. A common phenomenon of magnesium deficiency is a sharp muscle reaction to an unexpected loud noise. 'Memory pills' have been marketed that consist mainly of magnesium (9). Sleep in magnesium deficiency is restless, agitated and disturbed by frequent nighttime awakenings. However, all forms of magnesium are not equally effective. In a study of more than 200 patients, Dr. W. Davis used magnesium chloride as a possible means of combating insomnia.

The researcher reported that sleep was induced rapidly, was uninterrupted, and that waking tiredness disappeared in ninety-nine percent of the patients. In addition, anxiety and tension diminished during the day. (8) Many of the symptoms of Parkinson's disease can be overcome with high magnesium supplementation, shaking can be preceded and rigidity eased. With preeclampsia pregnant women may develop convulsions, nausea, dizziness and headaches. In hospitals this is treated with magnesium infusions. Because of its strong relaxing effect, magnesium helps not only to have a better sleep but is also useful in overcoming head and migraines. Even the number of suicides is linked to magnesium deficiency: the lower the magnesium content in soil and water in a given region the higher the rates of suicides (9). Epilepsy is marked by abnormally low magnesium levels in the blood, spinal fluid and brain, causing hyperexcitability in regions of the brain. There are many reported causes of epilepsy greatly improving or disappearing with magnesium supplementation. In a trial with 30 epileptics 450mg of magnesium supplied daily successfully controlled seizures. Another study found that the lower the magnesium blood levels the more severe was the epilepsy. Magnesium works best combined with vitamin B6 and zinc. In insufficient concentrations, magnesium inhibits convulsions by limiting or slowing the spread of the electric discharge from an isolated group of brain cells to the rest of the brain. Even the initial burst of firing nerve cells that starts an epileptic attack can be suppressed with magnesium (9).

Magnesium for Rejuvenation

Calcium and magnesium are opposites in their effects on our body structure. As a general rule, the softer our body structure the more we need calcium, while the more rigid and inflexible it is, the less calcium and the more magnesium we need. Magnesium can everse the age-related degenerative calcification of our body structure and with this help us to rejuvenate. Young women, children and most of all babies have soft body structures and smooth skin with low calcium and high magnesium levels in their cells and soft tissues. They generally need high calcium intakes. This is the biochemistry of youth. As we age and most pronounced in old men and post-menopausal women, we become more and more inflexible. The arteries harden to cause arteriosclerosis, the skeletal system calcifies to cause rigidity with fusion of the spine and joints, kidneys and other organs and glands increasingly calcify and harden with stone formation, calcification in the eyes causes cataracts and even the skin hardens, becoming tough and wrinkled.

In this way calcium is in the same league as oxygen and free radicals, while magnesium works together with hydrogen and the antioxidants to keep our body structure soft. While a higher magnesium intake is beneficial for most individuals, those with low blood pressure usually require more calcium in addition. Normal blood pressure is about 120/80; the lower it is the higher should be the daily intake of calcium. While those with high blood pressure may benefit from ingesting up to twice as much magnesium as calcium, those with low blood pressure may take twice as much calcium as magnesium, but both minerals in reliably high amounts. Those with low blood pressure and a tendency towards inflammations may also reduce their intake of phosphorus. A gynecologist reported that some of the first organs to calcify are the ovaries, leading to pre-menstrual tension. When he put his patients on a high magnesium take their PMT finished and they felt and looked much younger. Most of these women said that they lost weight, increased their energy, felt less depressed and enjoyed sex again much more than before. For men it is equally beneficial for problems arising from an enlarged prostate gland. Symptoms commonly improve after a period of supplementation with magnesium chloride (11).

Other Health Benefits

We see how essential magnesium is to the normal function of the cardiovascular and nervous system as well as in over 300 enzyme reactions and in energy production..In The lists of the health benefits magnesium extracts on the different body systems and this long. Many of them already mentioned here and includes, the cardiovascular and nervous system, and energy production followed by digestive, respiratory, excretory, lymphatic / immune, musculoskeletal, respiratory and reproductive system, not to mention it positive influence on metabolism like weight, blood sugar and cholesterol control. It is needed for protein, starch and fat metabolism and is important in liver, thyroid and parathyroid function, even hearing, vision and oral health are listed. Pathologies associated with magnesium deficiencies are staggering: Hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases, kidney and liver damage, migraine, multiple sclerosis, glaucoma, Alzheimer's disease, recurrent bacterial infections, fungal infections, premenstrual syndrome, calcium and potassium deficiency, diabetes, cramps, muscle weakness , impotence, aggression, fibromas, hearing loss and iron accumulation (1). Increased magnesium helps to prevent or dissolve kidney stones and gall bladder stones. Activation of digestive enzymes and bile production as well as improving a healthy intestinal flora are factors that make magnesium chloride beneficial in normalizing our digestive processes, reducing digestive discomfort, bloating and offensive stool odours. It actually reduces all offensive body odors, including underarm and foot odor. This may explain why chlorophyll is generally very effective in reducing body odor, it is high in magnesium.

Caution: Magnesium supplementation should be avoided with severe kidney problems (severe renal insufficiency when on dialysis), and also with myasthenia gravis. Be careful with several adrenal fatigue or with low blood pressure. Too much magnesium can cause muscle weakness, if this happens temporarily use more calcium.

Women With Pcos Can Get Pregnant – Proven Methods To Increase Odds Of Conception

Numerous women affected by Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome or PCOS share the fear of becoming infertile, yet many are not aware that there are various methods on how to conceive with PCOS. It is estimated that one out of every ten girls of child-bearing age has this medical condition.

Females with PCOS often suffer from heavy periods or irregular menstrual cycle, cysts on the ovaries, weight gain that sometimes leads to obesity, growth of hair on face, abdomen, and other parts of the body, and acne problems. This condition is also characterized by the occurrence of hormonal imbalances in the body that affects the ovulation cycle of women, hence leading to problematic pregnancies and sometimes infertility.

Through the help of modern technology, new ways to conceive a child have been developed. Modern medicines like clomid, metformin, Gonadotropins, and other drugs are being prescribed by doctors to aid women who are having difficulties getting pregnant. Others also undergo medical procedures for assisted reproduction like In Vitro Fertilization or IVF. On the other hand, there are also natural alternatives to get pregnant that can be done by women diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome.

The most tried and tested method that can greatly improve the chance of getting pregnant is by losing weight and keeping a fit physique. This method has been proven to be very effective in enhancing the chance of conception not only of women with PCOS but also others who are having trouble with getting pregnant.

Doing at least 30 minutes of exercise every day is recommended to help in reducing some weight. Keeping a normal weight is vital as this help restore hormonal balance in the body that influences the ovulation cycle of women.

Being diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome can sometimes cause anxiety as well as frustration to women especially for those who are planning to have a family. They may often find themselves thinking about how to conceive with PCOS and if it is even possible.

Undergoing acupuncture, which is a form of Chinese medicine, is one of the suggested methods to get pregnant. This procedure heals the symptoms of PCOS by placing tiny needles through the body which targets the blocked chi or energy within the body. It does not only help eliminate the symptoms but also relieve one of stress and tension that also affects the hormonal balance in the body.

Proper stress management and a positive outlook in life can also improve the chance of a woman with polycystic ovarian syndrome to bear a child. When the body is always under stress, the immune system which is responsible for keeping the body safe from diseases becomes weak, making one more vulnerable to illnesses.

By maintaining a positive attitude, the body will be subjected to less stress so less chance of acquitting different diseases. Proper stress management also alleviates the symptoms of PCOS which results to greater feasibility of a successful conception.

Moreover, by doing simple activities like running, walking, or even attending yoga classes can help relieve one from mind and body stress that is essential for good health. In addition, a healthy lifestyle and healthy diet are also effective ways on how to conceive with PCOS.

Colon Cancer: All the General Information About Colon Cancer that You Need to Know

Colon cancer is, as its name suggests, a disease that affects the colon. The colon is a tube shaped organ, located in the abdomen, that starts at the end of the bowel and ends with the anus. It twists and turns a lot, so its length is over 4 feet. The functions of the colon are to digest the food, absorb the nutrient substances from it (proteins and aminoacids), and to create the concentrated fecal material, which is then stored and eliminated from the colon when the time comes. The end of the colon is called rectum. The rectum and the colon together form the large intestine.

When colon cancer occurs, tumors appear on the inner walls of the large intestine. There are two types of tumors – benign tumors, also called polyps, which are not dangerous, and malignant tumors, which are the cancer.

Polyps do not spread to other cells and tissues and they can be easily removed. Tumors on the other hand, can spread and cause life-threatening complications. Remember that a benign polyp will turn into a malignant tumor if it is not treated in time.

Once a colon cancer appears it will start to spread and attack other tissues and cells, and eventually it can reach the lungs or the liver and form new tumors there.

The causes of colon cancer are nor entirely known, but what is known is that some people are at a higher risk of developing colon cancer than others. Those who consume large quantities of fats and those who had a history of colon cancer in the family are most likely to get colon cancer. Smoking and alcohol also increases the risks.

The disease has almost no symptoms when it is in its early stages, and when it advances the symptoms are different from one person to another and they depend on the size of the cancer and its exact location.

The most commonly encountered symptoms of colon cancer are:

-narrow stools

-stool that contains blood

-abdominal cramps and pain

-excessive gas

-weight loss

-change in bowel habits

If you notice any of the symptoms mentioned above consult a doctor as fast as you can. He will make several tests in order to establish a diagnose. Some people consider these tests to be embarrassing, because among them there are rectal exams, and fecal sample tests.

If the test results indicate colon cancer than treatment must begin as soon as possible before it spreads to other areas. The main options for colon cancer treatment are surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Surgery the most popular treatment method.

The good news is that most of the people survive colon cancer, as time passes the survival rate increases. Survival depends on which stage of colon cancer the patient has. If the cancer has reached the final stage then the chances are much lower because the cancer has already spread to other distant organs of the body.

Although the treatments are improving and the survival rate is increasing colon cancer is still one of the leading cause of death, because many don’t know that they have it until they reach the final stages. It is important to pay attention to its symptoms and consult a doctor for medical advice from time to time.

Uterine Fibroids and Pregnancy

Statistics have shown that there are a lot of women with this condition during pregnancy, yet they do not manifest any symptoms. A lot of people would link these two terms together and often come up with a negative result. A person with fibroids should be aware of a lot of things about this condition and how it will greatly affect their pregnancy. Let me share with you some ideas on what you need to know about uterine fibroids and pregnancy.

It is a very difficult situation because as the baby develops within the stomach, it needs more space. This space would now cause harmful effects in a uterus with fibroids.

Having fibroid cysts and pregnancy are two situations that should not happen at the same time. The reason behind this is that uterine fibroids occupied space in the uterus of the mother. When a mother is pregnant, the uterus stretches to accommodate the growing baby inside, but if there is presence of fibroids, it'll be a lot more difficult for the uterus to stretch.

Usually, women with cysts during pregnancy would often experience miscarriage or preterm delivery. The baby inside is also at risk for malformation because of the cysts inside the uterus. The fibroids cause disruptions in the development of the baby because it should not be present in the uterus in the first place.

Although uterine fibroids and pregnancy are two different conditions it should be taken seriously. If these conditions happen simultaneously, a patient who does not usually present symptoms of myoma would experience some light bleeding or called as spotting during pregnancy. If you know that you have myoma, then you should consult your physician about it and inform that you want to get pregnant normally.

Ovarian Cysts and Pregnancy

Ovarian cysts and pregnancy are often incompatible. Oftentimes, varieties of the condition are related to endometriosis, which can be extremely painful and lead to hysterectomies. For women who still hope to have children in the future, the diagnosis of any ovarian cyst, and pregnancyopes are dashed.
So, what treatment options are available to get rid of ovarian cysts, other than a hysterectomy?

Fortunately, if you suffer from ovarian cysts, and pregnancy is your desire, understand that a hysterectomy is a last resort, when all other treatments have failed. No good doctor wants a woman to go through premature menopause and all of the consequential implications, without pain and abnormal bleeding are severe.

Generally, you will have 3 options available:

  1. Hormone therapy
  2. Less invasive surgery
  3. Holistic therapy

But, ridding your body of ovarian cysts often results in pregnancy prevention, at least for a time. So, when making the decision about your reproductive health, keep this in mind.

Hormone Therapy

Initially, a doctor will probably recommend hormonal therapy to prevent the production of estrogen, which essentially starves the ovarian cysts-if it works. In some cases, the cysts continue to grow and require further treatment. In either case, pregnancy is not an option, because it is also birth control. So, if you want to have a baby, this is definitely not a long-term option.

Less Invasive Surgery

If hormone therapy does not get rid of the ovarian cyst, or it is not your treatment of choice, the doctor will suggest less invasive surgery. He / she will use laparoscopy to remove the ovarian cyst (s). If this method is not possible, a larger incision is made. But, recovery time is generally longer. Either way, scar tissue may become a negative issue, if you are trying to get pregnant.

Holistic Therapy

For a woman seeking treatment for ovarian cysts and pregnancy is a desire, holistic therapy should be the first treatment of choice. This natural approach will get rid of the cysts and prevent them from reappearing in the future. Many women vouch for the success of holistic therapy and are happy to report a successful pregnancy after the cysts are gone.

So, even though ovarian cysts and pregnancy are often not compatible, all hope of having a child does not need to be lost. Before choosing more invasive procedures or subjecting your body to synthetic hormones, give holistic therapy a try. Thousands of women already have, and there are thousands of beautiful babies up and down the land as a direct result! Will yours be the next one?

How To Recognize Genital Herpes

Genital Herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex virus. This is the same viral infection that leads to cold sores-and rather like cold sores, once you are infected with genital herpes simplex, you have it for life. Although there is no cure for genital herpes, it is not as serious as many other sexually transmitted diseases. However, it can cause complications, so it is important that you know to recognize genital herpes symptoms to avoid passing the virus on to present or future sexual partners.

What are the symptoms of genital herpes?

Most people who have been exposed to the herpes simplex virus will experience symptoms of the disease after seven to ten days, but in rare cases, it is possible to have been infected for a year or more before the first outbreak of symptoms occurs.

In the first instance, the genital area will feel sore and painful. This sensation of discomfort will quickly lead to an outbreak of small blisters containing a clear fluid. These will burst and form ulcers within a few days. The ulcers usually heal up after one to two weeks, although it can take as long as three weeks during a first outbreak of genital herpes. It is also quite common for the glands in the groin to swell up as a further sign of viral infection.

While the herpes blisters are present, you are infectious and can pass on the virus during sexual contact. Once the tell-tale blisters have ulcerated and cured, new skin forms and you are left with no visible signs of the infection whatsoever. At this point, you are no longer infectious.

However, the genital herpes virus has not been vanquished-it has reluctantly retreated into the nearest nerve ganglion and there it waits until such time as it is reactivated and another outbreak of symptoms occurs.

How to recognize the symptoms of genital herpes in consequent outbreaks

The first attack of herpes is usually the worst. You are likely to experience a great deal of discomfort and the characteristic herpes blisters can take up to three weeks to heal. Thankfully, future outbreaks of the herpes virus normally last only a week and you may only have one or two blisters. You are also more likely to recognize the symptoms and be able to take precautions to avoid transmitting the virus to others.

The first sign of a subsequent herpes outbreak is often a tingling in the area where you normally see blisters. This is an indication that the virus is reactivating and you can expect to have symptoms within twenty-four hours. You may only see one or two blisters, or even experience just a vague soreness, but you are still infectious, so always avoid sexual contact.

Do the herpes blisters always occur in the same place?

Although herpes blisters typically recur in the same area of the genitals, some people find the symptoms recur in a slightly different location: for example, if the first attack caused blisters to form on the vulva, a consequent attack might cause blisters in the anal region .

Is it possible to have herpes and show no symptoms?

Some people can be a carrier of the herpes virus and never have any symptoms whatever. Although transmission of the herpes virus normally occurs when blisters are present, it is possible to pass on the virus through a process known as 'asymptomatic shedding', which is why unprotected sex with someone who is infected with the herpes virus is always risky, even when they have no symptoms.

So protect yourself and learn how to recognize the symptoms of herpes!

The Hepatitis-Cirrhosis Connection And An Important Liver Support Supplement

According to the American Liver Foundation, more than 25 million Americans are afflicted with liver and gallbladder disease and more than 43,000 die of liver disease each year. While several factors contribute to liver damage, viral hepatitis is the single most important cause of liver disease in the United States and worldwide. Roughly 200 million people worldwide are infected with the Hepatitis C virus (HCV). 4.9 million of those are in the United States (estimates go as high as 15 million) and 5 million in Western Europe. For every one person infected with the AIDS virus, there are more than four infected with Hepatitis C. There are up to 230,000 new hepatitis C infections in the US every year. Currently, 8,000 to 10,000 deaths each year are a result of HCV. Within the next 10-20 years, chronic hepatitis C is predicted to become a major burden on the health care system as patients with no symptoms progress to end-stage liver disease and develop hepatocellular carcinoma. Predictions in the USA suggest that there will be a 60% increase in the incidence of cirrhosis, a 68% increase in hepatoma incidence, a 528% increase in the need for transplantation, and a 223% increase in liver death rate.

The robes of hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection in causing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are well documented. The frequency of HCC correlates with chronic HBV infection rates. HCC is a cancer arising from the liver. It is also known as primary liver cancer or hepatoma. HCC is the fifth most common cancer in the world and the majority of patients with HCC will die within one year because of the cancer. The majority of primary liver cancers (over 90 to 95%) arises from liver cells and is called hepatocellular cancer or carcinoma. In 1990, the World Health Organization estimated that there were about 430,000 new cases of HCC worldwide, and a similar number of patients died resulting from this disease. Moreover, recent data show that the frequency of HCC in the US overall is rising. Is there a way to curb this rise?

A Healthy Liver is Essential!

While there is no cure for hepatitis and no completely effective treatment, the threats resulting from HCC, cirrhosis, and various hepatitis strands may best be combated by supporting the liver with natural supplements.

Extreme Health's Liver Support Formula

This extremely effective combination of ingredients has Double Blind Studies verifying decrees in degenerative liver damage in patients with chronic liver disease (in cirrhosis of the liver) in as few as 30 to 90 days. This combination has proven studies for detoxifying the liver, normalizing liver metabolism and preventing further liver damage due to internal and external toxins like alcohol, cigarettes, long term pharmaceutical use, and environmental poisons

The artichoke bud / sarsaparilla extract utilized in Extreme Health's Liver Support Formula is an entirely unique complex of phytochemicals extracted from the bud of a hybrid artichoke plant (Cynara floridanum) and the root of the sarsaparilla plant (Smilax officinalis) which can be found at http : //www.extremehealthusa.com or by calling 1-800-800-1285. Proprietary extraction process uses a method in which all plant materials are first combined, macerated, and put into a distilled water / ethanol solvent. This allows the plant materials to interact within the solvent resulting in an exceptional, health-providing formulation of polyphenols and flavonoids.

The artichoke has a long folk history in treating many liver diseases. Recent evidence supports this longtime use. The active ingredient in artichoke is cynarin. This compound is found in highest concentrations in the leaves. Cynara extract has demonstrated liver-protecting and regenerating effects, and promotes the outflow of bile from the liver to the gallbladder. This is very important because if the bile is not being transported appropriately to the gallbladder, the liver has an increased risk of being damaged.

Again, there is no cure or completely effective treatment for hepatitis, however the risk of hepatitis-related cirrhosis should not be ignored. Extreme Health is proud to offer despite the only liver support protocol with Double Blind Studies verifying its ability to decrease cirrhosis-related liver damage.

The Liver's Functions Include

An expanding corpus of scientific studies verifies the healthy liver's prophylactic role in maintaining optimal health. This is due due to the liver's role in regulation, synthesis, and secretion of substances key to maintaining a healthy body. The liver's functions include, but are not limited to the following:

1) Converts nutrients into energy 7) Manufacturing and storage of bile

2) Helps resist infection 8) Removal bacteria from our system

3) Metabolizes proteins 9) Regulating fat storage

4) Helps regulate blood-sugar levels 10) Manufacturing protein and nutrients

5) Filtering and removal toxins 11) Storing iron and essential nutrients

6) Removal drugs in our system 12) Manufacturing new body proteins

We easily comprehend why the liver is considered the body's refinery. Accordingly, an overburdened, toxic, or otherwise diseased liver necessarily compresses centrifugal detoxification organs such as the kidneys and gallbladder and can result in extreme pain and even death within 12 to 24 hours! Reciprocally, various diseases and viruses actually engender liver damage; the most dangerous of which is potentially hepatitis.

Complications

25,000 Americans die of cirrhosis, the seventh leading cause of death in the US

– 85% of individuals infected with HCV will develop long-term infection.

– 75% of individuals may develop chronic liver disease.

– 15% of individuals may develop cirrhosis over a long period of time.

Fatty Liver (Steatosis) Steato Hepatitis / Cirrhosis

Fatty liver or steatosis is a common condition where fat has accumulated within liver cells (hepatocytes) without causing any specific symptoms.

Recent studies demonstrate that a fatty liver of either alcoholic or non-alcoholic origin can lead to inflammation, cell death, and fibrosis (steatohepatitis), and occasionally even cirrhosis.

Kidney Stones Diet and Remedies

If you have kidney stones, you are not alone; more than 5 percent of the American population sufferers from this medical condition according to National Kidney and Urology Disease Information (NKUDI). In fact, this number is increasing annually. Important is know the cause and means to flush the stones and prevent new ones from forming in you kidneys. Kidney stones are rejected from crystallization of certain chemicals in your urine. In agglomerating, crystals can form small stones from a size of a grain of sand to a golf ball. Although most stones are composed of calcium oxalate, it may happen you develop uric acid kidney stones, or cystine stones.

The majority of small stones pass out the body by themselves without any medical intervention. However, some of them, due to their size, blocked in the urinary tract causing excruciating pain; this can require immediate help of a physician. To get rid of those stone buildups, your nephrologist (a physician who is specialized in kidney diseases, kidney transplantation, and dialysis therapy) may use extracorporeal lithotripsy (mostly performed for stones between 4 mm and 2 cm in diameter) and shock waves (to fragment large stones into small pieces). In some cases, however, a surgeon must resort to typical surgery to remove the stone.

All those methods can remove kidney stones, but not prevent their recurrence. Once you have renal calculi, the risk of recurrence is high. The best way to avoid this is to follow a natural treatment and change your diet.

How to pass kidney stones naturally?

To dissolve uric acid stones, alkalinization therapy (a form of treatment of kidney stones consisting of the reduction of acidity in the urine) is essential. This can be done naturally or synthetically. However, this article is about natural alkalinization therapy.

Increase your liquid intake – Dehydration is a major risk factor for kidney stones. Drinking lots of water and natural juice allows your body to diluting elements present in the urine. If you suffer or at risk of kidney stones, you should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day for less active people, and at least 10 glasses for athletes; this preventive and curative method facilitates the release of stones that already formed and prior formation of others. Although it can be annoying, it is also important to drink a glass of water during the night. During hot season, you should drink even more.

Eat more fruits and vegetables – If you have kidney stones, curative effects of eating fruits is intense. A diet rich in fruits participates in many vital body functions, including increasing citrate, a major inhibitor of crystallization of salts in your urine. However, consumption of certain fruits and vegetables must be limited.

Lemonades and grapefruit juice significantly increase urinary excretion of citrate, calcium and magnesium. Citrus fruit juices could represent a natural alternative to potassium citrate, a substance used to treat a kidney stone condition. However, in order to obtain their beneficial effects in the prevention of calcium renal stones, they must be drunk with no or low sugar. Orange juice is also recommended; it increases citrate in the urine while reducing the crystallization of uric acid and calcium oxalate.

Limit your protein intake – high protein intake tends to cause crystallization of salts in the urine, by increasing the level of calcium, oxalate and uric acid, and lowering the level of citrate (a key substance in the prevention of formation of kidney stones). Animal proteins (meat, fish, poultry, game, etc.) are most often involved in this disorder.

It is important that you reduce consumption of foods high in oxalate: chocolate, peanuts, hazelnuts, asparagus, beets, spinach, rhubarb, etc.
Reduction of salt in your diet is also essential. Salt and salted products promote formation of calcium in the urine, which leads to kidney stones. In addition, avoid beer and soft drinks. These drinks are too acidic for your urine; they can lead to formation of stones. Certain supplements such as vitamin C must be taken in small quantities.

The real solution

Those measures of precaution are not always efficient to remove certain stones already installed in your urinary tract. If you have kidney stones and you do not want surgery or medical treatment, it is vital to follow a natural treatment that is effective and safe.

The Effect of Speed on Vision While Driving

Visual Acuity

One of the primary effects of speed is to decrease for objects in the foreground, which are rendered unclear because of the motion and vibration of the car. Investigation has shown that this range of sub standard foreground vision increases by approximately 20 feet for each increase of 10 miles per hour in speed. Thus at 20 miles per hour we cannot see details clearly within 40 feet ahead of the car; at 60 miles per hour, not within 120 feet or more.

Let us imagine a driver with 20/20 visual acuity driving at 60 miles per hour. There is a highway sign ahead with three lines of writing on it. This driver does not know the area – his memory cannot be of any help – so he must read the sign. We have seen earlier that this driver can read 5 inch letters from 280 feet. We now know that when his car reaches a point 120 feet from the sign, he cannot clearly see the details. He has only 160 feet, or 1.8 seconds, to read the sign.

A driver with 20/60 vision cannot see that same sign before he reaches a point 93 feet from it – but his close up vision is affected the same as the first driver’s. Will this driver be able to read a three line message? The problem of reduced close up vision explains why some drivers make emergency stops or slow down abruptly at road junctions, especially at super highway exits. You must always be aware of this danger and be ready for any sudden action by other drivers. If you know the area you are driving in, a short glance at the sign will be sufficient – but remember that strangers who do not know their way will need longer periods of time.

Road departments, having studied this problem, use symbols as much as possible, or make the written message as brief as they can. Super highways always have signs with large and easily read letters.

Field of Vision

Your field of vision is reduced by concentration and speed. When you concentrate on one single object, the field of vision is nil – which is generally what happens with new drivers, because they tend to stare at what they believe to be important. Field of vision is also narrowed by speed. When stopped, a driver’s field of vision may be as high as 190 degrees, but for the same person, the angle will be narrowed to 40 degrees at 60 miles per hour. That is why, whenever possible, highway signs are positioned above the roadway.

Distance Judgment

Good distance judgment is dependent on good visual acuity. Since acuity is reduced by speed, distance judgment will also be adversely affected when you are driving fast.

Esophageal Ulcers – Unable to Eat Or Drink – Cured With Nux Vomica

The lower esophagus where it enters the stomach was riddled with ulcers. Unusual, to say the least, in a 17 year old boy. He had come down with the flu five or six days earlier-total body aches, fever, the usual flu symptoms. He took ibuprofen, 800 milligrams, the first day and three times that much the next. The third day he developed intestinal burning pain in the lower chest and stomach. I saw him the evening of the sixth day. He was in pretty bad shape.

He said that he could not eat or drink and that even if he drank a few drops of water his stomach burns horribly. It was the same with food.

What to do? He needed fluid replacement and could not drink. He needed food and could not eat. He was down sixty pounds in six days and still losing. He had been to the Emergency Room the day before and received intravenous (IV) saline. They drew blood. All blood chemistries were within normal limits. He needed pain medication but could not take it by mouth so theyave him an intramuscular (IM) pain injection. The burning kept on and on and was so extreme he was referred to a gastroenterologist who, with an endoscope, looked directly into the lower esophagus and stomach where he observed many ulcers. That occurred earlier in the day I saw him.

What to do? Daily trips to the Emergency Room for IV saline and pain injections were impractical and costly. The gastroenterologist said the ulcers could have been caused by bacteria, a virus or the ibuprofen. In conventional medicine, the cause is all-important. A virus might be treated with an anti-viral, a bacteria with an antibiotic. If the ibuprofen was the culprit, which I suspected, there was nothing to do but watch and wait. But the ball was in my court. I had to find something that could cure him irrespective of the cause.

With homeopathy, the cause is interesting but it is not critical. We can still prescribe. For us, it is always the symptoms that lead to the correct prescription. Especially important are the symptoms of the man himself.

I learned that if he moved, even slightly, the burning worsened. More importantly, he told me he was irritable with the pain and irritable when he was around noise. Those latter symptoms, plus the fact that he was sensitive to conventional pharmaceuticals, lead me to prescribe Nux vomica, a medicine known for irritability and intolerance to noise. He received three or four drops in water, enough to medicate, not enough to cause more burning.

The next morning he was much better and felt no pain when drinking. Food still bothered him. I suggested drinking some heavy cream. When I called that evening he reported he was even better and had managed the cream nicely. He went on to a full recovery.

This example shows how the correct homeopathic medicine, by matching the patient's symptoms to the known therapeutic effects of the homeopathic medicine, can have unbelievably rapid results. All this in a medicine so dilute that it contains no molecules! Homeopathy. It's almost like magic!

Amlapitta and Ayurveda

It is common for many of us to face a burning sensation in stomach and chest at times. This is in most cases due to excessive secretion of acidic material in the stomach. This in medical terms referred as acidity or gastritis. In Ayurvedic terminology, this is referred as amlapitta, amla meas the super sour taste and Pitta is the Dosha. This means there is an excess secretion of Pitta Dosha (one of the three doshas) in the stomach.

There are several factors that lead to the acidity or amlapitta in the body like a poor or imbalanced diet, heavy smoking, weak immune system, stress etc. When there is acidity problem in the body, it is denoted by many symptoms like loss of appetite, burning sensation in chest, stomach, nausea, indigestion, abdominal bloating, etc.

Amlapitta Process
When the Pitta Dosha is disturbed from its normal state by taking viruddha bhojan (incompatible food), vikrita bhojan (stale food), ati amla (too much sour, spicy food), vidahi (decayed) and other food that is harmful to pitta dosha like fried, fermented food, smoking, alcohol etc, then the aggravated Pitta Dosha takes seat in stomach and produces Amlapitta or hyperacidity.

Ayurvedic Treatment
No matter how big or small the symptoms are, amlapitta should never be ignored because if not given proper treatment at the right time, it can lead to severe health problems. Luckily there are many remedies for acidity but the best remedy is using Ayurveda herbal remedy. The traditional Ayurveda medicines are used quite frequently for curing acidity. Ayurveda uses herbs like English mallow, Ginger, Meadowsweet, Chamomile, Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Licorice, etc. for treating gastritis or acidity. Apart from these Ayurveda herbal medicines, dietary restrictions, different home remedies, water treatments are also used for Amlapitta treatment. Nowadays in the market you will find a variety of Ayurvedic medicines made using these herbs but it is always better to consult a professional practitioner.
