Obesity has been a growing concern for both the developing and fist-world countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already indicated obesity as a "global epidemic." Data obtained after extensive research and surveys show that obesity has seen about threefold upsurge in just 20 years.

The WHO has also put forth in 2004 that obesity affects more people than even malnutrition and hunger. According to an estimate, more than one billion adults out of the total world population are obese and are suffering from obesity-related problems. In the latest Health Survey for England, it is estimated that nearly one in four adults and about one in ten children is suffering from obesity. Facts About Cold Sores

Cold sores are unsightly, contagious and very painful sores, normally occurring on the edge of the lip or nose.

Cold sores are created by the replication process of the herpes simplex virus type 1 or type 2. Current studies show that about 77% of cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex type 1 and about 23% by the type 2 version of this simplex virus . For the most part, cold sores caused by either type of the herpes virus are identical. They both look the same, hurt the same, are just as contagious, and last about the same amount of weeks.

Cold sores will occur and reoccur in about the same location as the initial infection. For example, if your cold sore appears on your upper left lip, then this is the site of the original infection. The virus that causes cold sores lives in the nerve cells. It will seek out the nearest nerve fibers at the site where the virus enters the body. That herpes virus will make a home in that particular nerve fiber for the rest of your life.

Now do not be fooled. You can be infected several times in different locations. If another cold sore appears on your lower right lip, this is a different infection and you now have located another "family" of the cold sore virus living in another nerve fiber.

When you have a cold sore, keep in mind that you are not only very contagious to others, but to other locations on your own body too. Cold sores can appear anywhere on the body where the virus found a crack in the protective skin layer.

The herpes simplex virus normally is in hibernation farther down the nerve fibers from the surface. If you get a cold sore on your upper left lip, chances are this virus is hiding in the nerve ganglia near your left ear.

Your body defenses create cold sore anti-bodies each time you have a cold sore outbreak. These anti-bodies surround and help keep the herpes virus asleep. Should there be some stress in another part of your body, these defenses may weaken and the cold sore virus will snatch the opportunity to move to the surface and create new viruses.

The herpes simplex virus can not reproduce itself. The virus will enter a nerve cell and force the cell to clone copies of itself. When the cell becomes full of new virus, the original virus will destroy the cell to release all the new clones. This destruction of millions of cells in a close area create those hideous open cold sores.

The open cold sore would be painful enough, but it is even more so because the herpes virus creates the cold sore right on the end of that nerve fiber. The pain is quite similar to a dentist hitting a nerve.

The most common way of infecting others with cold sores is kissing. Doting relatives and friends usually infect children before they are seven. Remember, you are contagious from the first tingle until about two days after complete healing.

Cold sore sufferers will many times create a new area of ​​infection on their body with contaminated fingers or towels. The fluid that weeps from cold sores is teaming with fresh virus looking for a new home. If you have a cut on your finger and you get even one virus in that cut, you will likely get cold sores on your finger.

The body will naturally cure your cold sores without any special cold sore treatment but it often takes three to four weeks. A long time to be socially sidelined and feeling poorly.

And applying ice at the first sign of a cold sore often prevents the cold sore from actually occurring or shortens the life-span of your cold sores.

Psoriasis Symptoms

Psoriasis symptoms vary based upon the type of psoriasis one is suffering from. Let’s take a look at the main types of psoriasis and the psoriasis symptoms associated with each.


Psoriasis Vulgaris: This is the most ubiquitous type of this disease. Up to 90% of sufferers have this form of the condition. Also known as plaque psoriasis, psoriasis symptoms for this condition can range from localized plaques to plaques covering much of the body.

The plaques appear as inflammations on the skin, raised slightly and covered with silver, scaly skin.

Another form of the non-pustular type of this disease is psoriatic erythroderma. Symptoms for this form of the condition include ubiquitous inflammation and sloughing of the skin across much of the body’s surface. Often, intense itching, pain and swelling occur.

Psoriatic erythroderma often occurs as a result of aggravated psoriasis symptoms in a plaque psoriasis sufferer. This is most often the case when strong systemic medication is suddenly stopped. The result can even result in death because the severe inflammatory response and sloughing interfere with the body’s autoregulation of temperature and barrier functions.


Pustular forms of this condition are characterized by elevated bumps on the skin called pustules that are filled with pus. This fluid is not infectious. The presence of the pustule causes the skin underneath to become inflamed.

Pustular psoriasis symptoms can be seen in localized patches or in tracts throughout much of the body.


Symptoms can also occur for a number of other reasons.

Examples include drug induced psoriasis, inverse, (symptoms here are localized to skin folds such as those adjacent to the breast, genitals, etc.), guttate, (symptoms here look differently from typical plaque psoriasis and are characteristically small, pink-colored pustules that can cover much of the body), nail psoriasis (symptoms here manifest in discoloration of the nail, pitting of the nail and deterioration of the nail) and psoriatic arthritis (symptoms of this condition are inflammation of joints and connective tissues. Up to 15% of psoriasis sufferers develop psoriatic arthritis.)

Scalp psoriasis is also common amongst psoriasis sufferers. This condition can be particularly painful to the customer’s self esteem as it looks much like dandruff and makes wearing dark clothing very difficult. Scalp symptoms affect up to ½ of psoriasis patients. However, a number of various shampoos, oils and lotions exist to help treat this condition.

Every kid seems to have childhood allergies of some kind. I was allergic to strawberries when I was in grade school… but maybe that came from having to pick too many of them each summer. The antibiotics question is another issue altogether. If the medical situation warrants and your pediatrician says your baby needs an antibiotic, so be it. We have antibiotics to be used when they are needed. On the other hand, don’t try to talk the doctor into administering an antibiotic when it is not needed. This only builds resistance to the drug and disturbs the bacteria counts in the baby’s system.

So, by following that straightforward guidance of checking vitamin D levels and not abusing antibiotics, you and your child can reduce the potential for food allergies for your child. Your child will be happier and your life will be easier.

What is Inositol?

Inositol is a naturally occurring isomer of glucose, found in various forms. It is a member of the "B Complex" group of vitamins, though it is not a vitamin in itself. The most common form of inositol is myo-inositol.
