Stop Your Puppy From Biting, Nipping and Mouthing

Puppy biting is one of the greatest annoyances new puppy owners experience. Biting, nipping and mouthing is a totally normal phase for a puppy to go through so you do not have to be worried if your pup starts biting you. With the correct know-how, you will be able to effectively end this behavior. Puppy biting or nipping starts out as just a bit of fun, yet should be controlled immediately to stop on-going problems. When you are trying to prevent puppy biting, refrain from games like tug-of-war and wrestling, because these games are also encouraging biting.

As with all behaviors, it is important that your training is consistent and you make sure that anyone who plays with the dog uses the same technique to stop puppy biting. Individuals often wish to stop a puppy from biting without recognizing it is an essential part of their puppy's development. When trying to control or stop puppy biting, do not let your dog bite your clothing.

Start training your puppy early in his development to avoid numerous likely issues for both you and your dog as he gets to be an adult. You are able to stop puppy biting by showing your puppy who is the boss the way his mother would have done. Frequently, pups are taken away from their mothers the instant they are weaned, so they do not have an opportunity to find out the way to control their biting naturally.

One of the best ways to stop your puppy from biting is to integrate him with other pups and dogs. If your dog is socialized at a young age, you will slowly but surely be able to stop puppy biting problems. When your puppy bites, it is important that he is corrected immediately, otherwise he will only be perplexed. The general rule to stop puppy biting problems is to always encourage acceptable behavior and always discourage unacceptable behavior. If you do not clearly communicate to your canine that the biting is inappropriate, he will not understand he is doing anything wrong. Each time your puppy begins biting you should say "No". Whenever puppies are biting and nipping each other it only stops when one puppy lets out a yelp.

Puppy training for biting behavior is one thing you must precede early, and be consistent with, through those first few months (especially through the teeth phase). Biting and mouthing are actually very common among canines especially if they are teething or playing. Biting is a normal behavior for young puppies and it rarely causes injury, however, it is extremely important that this behavior is stopped before your dog gets to adulthood. Biting might be cute and harmless with a 5 pound puppy, but it is neither cute nor harmless when that canine has grown to adulthood. Biting behaviors that are not corrected will become worse, and what looked like harmless behavior in a puppy can easily escalate to dangerous, damaging behavior in an adult dog.

Biting is a normal phase that young dogs go through, and if correctly managed, never has to end up a major issue in the future. The good news is that most young puppies can be trained to regulate and minimize the biting pretty easily.

How To Cure Sprains – 3 Easy Home Remedies That Work Wonders

Do you want to know how to cure sprains? Sprain usually comes with pain and it is no fun.

What is a sprain?

When the ligaments of our body get injured, then it is termed as sprain., They are commonly experienced in the knee, elbow, wrist or ankle. Basically, ligaments are tissues that link one bone to another and which avoid freakish movements. When a huge force is applied on a body, the muscle gets overstretched leading to the displacement of fibers and consequentially, a strain may result.

Sprains occur to people who are very active in different kinds of sports. Examples include football, cricket or gymnastics. It may also occur when there is an accident slip or a bad fall.

Home Remedies

These are a few home remedies about how to cure sprains instantly and effectively:

  • Pressurize the impact area with ice cubes. Cover the area with a bandage. If not comfortable with ice cubes, hot water can also be applied. Applying hot water with some content of Epsom salt over the affected area brings instant relief. Epsom salt helps in sustaining the warmness of the water in the muscle.
  • For a foot sprain, black coffee does wonders. While warping the foot, apply 1 tablespoon of black coffee with the bandage.
  • For instant pain relief, cabbage leaves soaked in water can be applied at the sprained area and oils of lavender, garlic and that of almonds can cure the affected ligaments.

Some other precautionary measures should be taken along with the home remedies for faster recovery of injured ligaments or tendons. The affected muscles should be stretched for enough blood circulation. Foods prosperous in potassium and calcium should be consumed as they make bones and muscle strong. Pineapple fruits provide these nutrients. Finally, the most essential measure is to keep the muscle muscle wrapped firmly with a bandage, so that it results more swelling and helps the affected ligament heel faster.

Is There A Better Remedy?

Generally the above mentioned home remedies are effective, but the affected ligament takes a lot of time to heal. To our relief, studies conducted by the University of Connecticut has revealed that a natural cream which is made from the ingredients like Belladonna, Ignatia, Lachesis Mutus and Cetyl Myristoleate has a 100% success rate in reducing pain. This cream is proven to heal the source of your pain so it never returns and there are also no side effects, making this one of the most essential and effective remedies in how to cure sprains.

Protecting A Bruised Toenail

A Bothersome Bruise Under a Toenail

Unlike a cut or burn, bruises can be painful and hard to treat. With a cut, you simply cover with a bandage and with a burn, you treat with a cooling ointment or cream, but bruises are mostly left to heal or subside on their own. Sometimes bruises may be treated with a cold compress or a numbing cream.

In the case that you have suffered trauma to any of your finger or toenails, bruising may be imminent under the nail. Once you have a bruised toenail, there may be the hazard of losing your nail or incurring more pain when wearing shoes. Some simple tricks can help protect your bruised nail.

Protection for Your Bruised Toenail

For some, it may be that simple pressure of regular-type shoes can cause pain, and switching to an open toed shoe or a shoe of a larger size can help prevent the pressure that can be causing continuous pain of a bruised toe nail.

Covering the toenail with a gauze pad, cotton ball or a small portion of cloth to add padding between your toe and shoe can also be very helpful. You can wrap your toe and secure the piece with a band of medical bandage tape. Wearing a sock over the bandage can add more protection when wearing open or closed toe shoes.

After the pain has subsided, you may still want to wrap your bruised toenail, in case it would become loose and start to fall off. If the toenail becomes loose, it can catch or snag on threading in shoes, or even pant wear, carpet and bedding. If you need only to keep the toenail intact until the entire nail is loose, a simple piece of medical bandage tape or band-aid can secure the nail for the length of time necessary.

Proper Bruised Nail Protection

When wrapping a toe or finger for several days, you will want to insure that you keep the bandages loose enough so as not to reduce circulation or cause moisture to build in the bandage.

If you notice a numbing or burning sensation in your toe after wrapping it then you have the bandage too tight. You want to keep the bandage as snug as possible because your feet see a lot of activity and the bandage can fall off easily inside your shoe or sock, but not too tight that you lose circulation or cause more pain to your bruised toenail.

What Is a Microkeratome and Why Is It Used in Laser Eye Surgery?

If you have looked into having Laser Eye Surgery (Lasik) you have probably heard of an instrument called a microkeratome. Have you wonder what exactly the microkeratome is and what role it plays in Lasik? These are excellent questions and many people never fully comprehend the answers.

To understand completely, it is helpful to look back at the early genesis of Laser eye surgery. In the beginning, these surgeries were called PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) and they did not involve a microkeratome. An excimer laser was used to directly treat and reshape the outer surface of the cornea in order to change the optics of the eye.

Optically PRK is quite effective but there is a major drawback. When PRK is performed, there is a large bare covered area on the front of the cornea which is like a huge scratch on your eye. If you have ever had a scratch on your cornea, you know that it can be excruciatingly painful and can take some time to heal.

In the case of PRK, it usually takes about 3 days for the outer surface epithelium of the cornea to close and it takes some time thereafter for the swilling and healing to stabilize. Typically, a bandage contact lens is placed on the eye for 3 days to protect it and to increase comfort.

Lasik was developed by combining PRK with an older technology, the microkeratome, from another kind of eye surgery called ALK. The purpose of combining these techniques was to reduce the recovery time and increase comfort compared to PRK.

The microkeratome is able to cut a thin layer of tissue off of the surface of the cornea. This layer can be hinged and carefully lifted and folded back out of the way. Imagine it like a wall calendar where the previous month can be folded back to expose the next page underneath. Once this flap of tissue is out of the way, the excimer laser can optically treat and reshape the underlying cornea. Once finished, the flap can be replaced to cover the treated cornea.

The flap takes the place of the bandage contact lens of PRK and acts as a natural tissue bandage, if you will. It allows the surface of the cornea to remain practically intact with no large scratch on the surface. Vision returns quickly and often patients can see 20/20 by the next day. Pain is also usually minimal and limited to the early hours after the procedure. This flap is delicate at first and patients are advised not to rub their eyes in the early days following Lasik, but over time it heals and seals down so that patients have no functional limitations.

The early microkeratomes actually used physical razor blades and high speed oscillating mechanisms to work. In the last few years, they have evolved so that no blades or moving gears are needed. A special laser called the femtosecond laser can create a flap with far greater precision and accuracy than the older instruments.

These laser microkeratomes also have a much lower incidence of flap related problems like free cut flaps, button-holes in the flaps, or metal fragments / oils dragged benefit the flaps. Because of their design, the surgeon also has much better control because he can actually see the flap being created and even adjust its size and shape on a computer screen as needed to customize it for the eye of any individual.

In summary, the use of the microkeratome in Laser eye surgery has greatly influenced the procedure allowing greater patient comfort and faster recovery compared to PRK. The evolution of the femtosecond laser microkeratome has taken the procedure light years ahead with greater safety and an incredible level of precise control that allows us the flexibility to customize Lasik flaps in ways that were inconceivable before.

A Comparison Between the Human and Ruminant Digestive System

THE HUMAN DIGESTION:

The food is taken into the mouth where it is chewed, mixed with saliva which is secreted by glands in the mouth. After mastication a portion of food is collected on the tongue. It is then swallowed and the opening to the larynx is closed off by a small flap of tissue called the epiglottis. This flap prevents the food from entering into the respiratory tract. Should some food stray into this tract a reflux action occurs by coughing to expel the food out.

The food passes from the esophagus into the stomach, contractions of the muscular wall of the stomach ensure further mixing and mechanical disintegration of the food, which at the same time is mixed with the gastric juice secreted by the stomach.

The stomach has a mucous membrane lining and is protected from the gastric juice which contains enzymes and hydrochloric acid. The food is broken down into smaller particles for easier absorption into the bloodstream and the rest of the food passes into the small intestine and duodenum through the pyloric sphincter valve, a muscular ring at the end of the stomach and intestine.

In the small intestine, rhythmic movements of the walls churn up the food and mix it with the digestive juices, which include pancreatic and bile juices (The bile is produced by the liver and stored by the gall bladder) further digestion then takes place as the result of the action of enzymes present in these juices.

Absorption of the digestive nutrients takes place mainly through the mucus membrane of the small intestine. The rhythmic movements of the intestine force the unabsorbed food, and waste matter excreted from the blood into the large intestine, here the water is absorbed by the walls of the intestine and partially dehydrated material passes to the rectum from which it is excreted from the body through the anus as faeces.

THE ALIMENTARY RUMINANT SYSTEM

The name ruminant means ” Chewing The Cud” and it’s a name given to those mammals of even – toed, cloven hoofed, such as Cattle, Sheep, Goats are ruminants.

Other groups of ruminant – like animals include the antelopes, deer, camels, llamas, hippopotamus, sloths and kangaroos.

The ruminant has a stomach consisting of four compartments (camels have three.)

THE RUMEN:

The food is partly chewed then swallowed and it passes into the first compartment called the rumen. The large stomach has no digestive juices or excretory glands present and the food is attacked by large numbers of living protozoa, microbes and bacteria which already are present in the walls of the ruminant stomach. The breakdown of cellulose, which plants are largely composed of takes place in this section of the stomach and the food is regurgitated from time to time into the mouth in small amounts and slowly chewed to a pulp, and when food is swallowed again, it enters a second compartment called the reticulum.

THE RETICULUM:

This section of the stomach breaks down the cellulose further and passes it to the third compartment called the omasum.

THE OMASUM:

The omasum contains large leaf – like structures that increases the surface area for effective water absorption, there the muscles stir and reduce it further until it enters the fourth compartment, called the abomasum.

THE ABOMASUM:

“True Stomach” A stomach much like ours. In this organ gastric juice is secreted, it contains hydrochloric acid which kills most of the microbes and begins digesting them and their contents are then absorbed to provide essential vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

Ruminants have specialized metabolisms due to the presence of digestive bacteria. Protein needs are supplied by the rumen bacteria which use simple substances urea and inorganic sulphates to manufacture these proteins. This is a major difference between ruminants and other animals because they produce their own protein. Protein is a dietary requirement of all other animals.

TEETH:

In most ruminants (Cattle, Sheep, Goats) there is a absence of upper incisors – replaced by a hard “Dental Pad” well formed even lower incisors. Well developed molars and premolars for grinding movement is “Lateral”. The toothless gap between incisors and premolars allows the tongue to manipulate the food. Chewing movements acts as a stimuli, leads to increased salivation, particularly on the side on which the chewing is done. In cattle up to 200 litres may be produced in 24 hours. The saliva is rich in bicarbonate, which serves to neutralize the fatty acids produced by fermentation.

DIFFERENCES:

Ruminants

Specialized tongue and lip for grasping and tearing.

Well developed molars and premolars for grinding, movement is “lateral”.

In most ruminants upper teeth replaced by “Dental Pad”.

A gap between premolars and molars allows the tongue to manipulate the food into small amounts prior to swallowing.

Mouth is taken to food.

Complex digestive system (Four Stomachs).

Regurgitation of cud for chewing at rest, one set of teeth for life, teeth wear flat, with the age.

Protein needs supplied by rumen bacteria.

Herbivores – no meat.

Humans:

Upper and lower teeth movement is “Vertical” Incisors and canine produce shearing action, used for cutting food, premolars and molars for grinding and crushing.

Two sets of teeth – loss through decay and improper nutrition – replaced by dentures (False Teeth).

Food is taken to mouth.

Digestive System (one stomach).

Protein is a dietary requirement and is provided by the intake of various foods.

Vomiting more common in carnivores and omnivores. Forceful ejection of gastric contents from the mouth.

Variety of foods to obtain various other nutrients.

Ill health, weather changes, irritability and stress, may have an effect on digestive processes.

Omnivores – meat and plants.

SIMILARITIES:

Food, water, and oxygen to sustain life, we require similar nutrients and produce waste products.

Acid Reflux Diet Not As Effective When There Is Mercury Toxicity From Silver Fillings

Although the nutrient-dense, acid reflux diet is a major step to healing and building optimal health, removing amalgam fillings (silver fillings) is extremely important as they are a major source of heavy metal toxicity.

What most people do not realize is that the largest portion of metal used for fillings is mercury–at least 54% mercury! The mercury is mixed with other metals (copper, silver, tin and zinc) that actually increase its toxicity through galvanization–an electrical current produced from two or more dissimilar metals, thereby increasing the rate of mercury corrosion from 10-20 times! So while the teeth are protected from further decay, the resulting heavy metal toxicity may be devastating to health and be a serious block to overcoming acid reflux.

Mercury is extremely toxic in very minute amounts, and has been linked to many neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Multiple Sclerosis. Heavy metals migrate to fatty tissues like the tissues of the brain and the myelin sheath that protects nerve cells. Mercury in small amounts can cause brain lesions as it can alter the cell membrane structure of developing brain neurons resulting in their rapid degeneration.

It is interesting to note that while dental office staff is carefully instructed about the vigilant handling of amalgam material as it is classified by OSHA as “hazardous,” that once it is put in your mouth–it becomes safe? In 1992, the World Health Organization declared that mercury is so poisonous that no amount of mercury absorption is safe! In fact, there is a constant mercury vapor that is released from amalgam fillings even after 50 years!

Mercury is a “cytotoxin.” It is poisonous to all living cells and can bind with any molecule called a “sulfhydrl”–which is found in most proteins–the building blocks for all tissues. As a result–mercury can interfere with virtually any process or organ in the body.

Hal Huggins, DDS, MS, a leading biological dentist who has been a pioneer in informing the public about mercury toxicity, writes in his book called, It’s All in Your Head, The Link Between Mercury Amalgams and Illness that “Mercury kills cells by interfering with their ability to exchange oxygen, nutrients and waste products through the cell membrane. Inside the cell, mercury destroys our genetic code, DNA, leaving us without the ability to reproduce that cell ever again. Immunologically, mercury embeds itself in a cell membrane, giving the cell the appearance of being “non-self,” which is the trigger for the immune system to destroy that specific cell. With mercury in your cell membranes, the immune system will start destroying your own tissues, thus the term autoimmune disease. Examples of these are diabetes, multiple sclerosis, scleroderma and lupus.”

Dr. Michael Ziff, DDS, who with his father, Sam Ziff, took a series of critical studies and reports examining the adverse effects of mercury and combined them in a single symptom list that analyzed 1569 patients who had eliminated their mercury-containing dental amalgams (see the book, The Mercury in Your Mouth–The Truth about “Silver” Dental Fillings, Quicksilver Press, p. 8-9), stated that, “You wouldn’t take a leaky thermometer, put it in your mouth, and leave it there 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Yet that’s exactly what happens when an amalgam filling is installed in your mouth.”

A summary of how mercury interferes with basic metabolic processes is eloquently described by Alfred Zamm, MD, FACP in this statement from his research: Mercury poisoning is impaired oxidation. It’s like having an invisible cord around your neck that’s strangling you, but you can’t feel the cord is there. [The strangulation] is biochemical, but the principal is the same: mercury reduced the amount of oxygen you get. The body keeps adjusting, but with every adjustment it gets sicker and sicker. And ultimately you will die from this.

Most people are unaware that as mercury toxicity deprives the body of oxygen, the body in turn initiates a support of Candida overgrowth as a protective mechanism. Therefore, even with a superb nutrient-dense, anti-Candida dietary protocol, if a person has a mouth full of silver fillings or mercury amalgams they may not recover from acid reflux!

Dr. Louisa Williams’ important book called Radical Medicine points to research done by Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt in the 1990’s that shows how mercury amalgams initiate Candida overgrowth.

He states that: “Mercury suffocates the intracellular respiratory mechanism and can cause cell death. So, the immune system makes a deal: it cultivates fungi and bacteria that can bind large amounts of toxic metals. The gain: the cells can breathe. The cost: the system has to provide nutrition for the microorganisms and has to deal with their metabolic products.”

In the book, The Mercury in Your Mouth–The Truth about “Silver” Dental Fillings, it discusses the fact that indigestion and weak stomach acid are associated with mercury toxicity. The gastrointestinal tract will absorb the highest levels of mercury because the fillings are constantly in contact with saliva. When the immune system is compromised by mercury, fungus multiplies rapidly.

Although the safe removal of dental amalgams is a very complicated process requiring an extremely specific protocol and a biological dentist must thoroughly assess the health of the patient before removal can be recommended, this is a prudent step in long-term health.

Removing mercury amalgams along with a nutrient-dense, acid reflux diet may help to alleviate the pervasive health problems associated with Candida overgrowth and dysbiosis significantly.

Swollen Gums – How To Cure Swollen Gums Quickly

Inflamed and swollen gums can unfortunately be a sign of gingivitis or, even worse, gum disease. Because of this, it is integral that swollen gums be recognized and treated early so that it can be cured before it is able to progress into a more serious condition.

There are several potential causes for swollen gums. These include:

  • Hormonal changes due to pregnancy and the menstrual cycle.
  • Either lack of brushing or vigorous over-brushing. This could lead to gum injury and swelling in the future and might even lead to bacterial infection.
  • Lack of proper nutrition.
  • Over consumption of candy and other sweet foods.
  • The use of specific medications such as amphetamines can lead to swelling due to increased size in blood vessels.
  • Bacterial-containing plaque contains toxic substances which are released into the gums and can cause gum swelling and inflammation.
  • Smoking, which has been known to increase the buildup of harmful bacteria and plaque.

In the case of swollen gums, several means can be taken in order to treat the issue. These home treatments include:

  • Rinsing the mouth with a mixture of salt and warm water. This, however, is not a curative measure but is simply palliative. It has been known to relieve unpleasant symptoms of inflamed gums.
  • Rinsing the mouth with a mixture of fresh lemon juice and water can help to prevent infection. Gargle the solution and then spit.
  • Increasing the intake of folic acid, iron, and vitamin A.
  • Making sure that there is no food residue within the teeth.
  • Brushing twice a day and flossing at least once per day in order to prevent plaque buildup and cavities.
  • Massaging the gums in order to encourage blood flow within the area.
  • Consuming more water.
  • Forming a paste made of ginger and salt. This mixture is then placed on the gums and massaged into the area. This has been known to prevent inflammation.

Gum swelling and inflammation can occasionally become too severe to the point that these home remedies do not seem to help the problem. If the above treatments do not appear to alleviate the problem, you should schedule an appointment with a professional dentist or an expert oral hygienist. This should be done as soon as you are able, so that the condition does not progress into a more severe gum issue such as periodontal disease.

How Do Jellyfish Reproduce?

Jellyfish have a unique life cycle. Males and females release sperm and eggs into the water, which joins to make a microscopic swimming larva called a planula. The planula swims until it finds a hard surface to attach to, such as a rock or oyster shell. It transforms into a small polyp that looks like a tiny sea anemone. This polyp can clone itself many times over to make a large colony. The polyps remain dormant for several months until seasonal cues trigger them to elongate and segment, which is also called strobilization. Each segment separates as a free-swimming larva called an epyra, which grows in size to become an adult jellyfish.

Many species can be bred in captivity, however it is an involved process because jellyfish have different tank, water and food requirements at each stage in their life cycle. It takes several months for epyrae to grow into adult medusae.

Jellyfish usually do not live more than a year in the wild, but will live several years in captivity. Their lifecycle takes one year to complete. Juveniles are produced from polyps in the spring and adults grow through the summer. Towards the end of the summer males and females mate and produce polyps, which grow and divide through the winter. In the spring the polyps start producing juveniles and the cycle repeats. This means that the swimming medusa life stage of jellyfish is only around for a few months during the summer. Jellyfish have delicate tissue, so they are usually damaged by the end of summer and most of them die. However, in captivity jellyfish can live much longer. It is not unusual for people to keep their pet jellyfish alive and healthy for 10 years or more if they feed them consistently.

In early 2009, scientists discovered a jellyfish species called Turritopsis dohmii that can reverse its life cycle and revert from an adult back to a juvenile stage. This is the only known animal with this immortal ability. The jellyfish is 1cm long and originally from the Caribbean, although it has spread all over the world.

Uterine Fibroid Tumors

Uterine fibroid tumors or leiomyomas are among the most common tumors among women. In fact, it is apparent in 25-50% of women, says American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Uterine fibroid tumors are typically non-cancerous; however, there is still the need to be aware of these tumors and some dangers it may bring to your health.

To give you better understanding of these tumors, here are answers to frequently asked questions on uterine fibroid tumors:

What are uterine fibroid tumors?

Uterine fibroid tumors, medically known as uterine leiomyomata or simply myoma, are growths consisting of smooth muscle cells and fibrous connective tissues usually found within the wall of the uterus. Some grow below the lining of the uterus; some grow between the muscles of the uterus, while some grow towards the outer part of the uterus. Uterine fibroid tumors may grow in clusters or as a single nodule and may vary in size.

What are the causes of uterine fibroid tumors?

Scientific researchers have not yet finally identified the causes of uterine fibroid tumors. It has been theorized that that uterine fibroid tumors result from hormonal, genetic and environmental factors, which may be present in combinations in every case.

Are uterine fibroid tumors cancerous?

Although considered as tumors, uterine fibroid tumors are mostly benign, which means that in most instances, they are not as dangerous as cancerous tumors. Cases of uterine fibroid tumors turning into cancer is very rare, however, it is possible. Although having uterine fibroid tumors is generally not dangerous (it also has nothing to do with cancer of the uterus), it is uneasy to live with; hernce, women opt to have their uterine fibroid tumors removed.

Who gets uterine fibroid tumors?

In most instances, uterine fibroid tumors develop in women of childbearing age, usually those in the 30s and 40s. However, researchers show that women who have previously given birth are less likely to develop uterine fibroid tumors. In addition, it has been found out that overweight women and young African women are more prone to developing uterine fibroid tumors. The reasons for these are not yet known, however, these facts have been prevalently observed.

What are the symptoms indicating presence of uterine fibroid tumors?

In many instances, uterine fibroid tumors do not cause symptoms, but some women have these benign tumors say that they experience pain and heavy bleeding during menstrual periods while some experience bleeding in between their menstrual period. She also urinates more often (due to the pressure of the fibroids to the bladder) and feels full in the lower part of the abdomen.

Some women also experience pain in the lower back and pain during intercourse. Other signs of uterine fibroid tumors include miscarriage, complications during pregnancy and infertility.

How are uterine fibroid tumors detected?

Uterine fibroid tumors are detected through pelvic examination. This lets your doctor check your vagina, ovaries and uterus. Imaging tests such as ultrasound, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), x-rays, and CT scan can also help the doctor detect presence of uterine fibroid tumors in your uterus.

Is treatment necessary?

Treatment of the uterine fibroid tumors is not necessary though since symptoms can be severe on some women, they prefer to have their fibroids treated. The main treatment for uterine fibroid tumors is uterine fibroid embolization (UFE). This is a modest invasive procedure wherein a small tube is inserted into an artery towards the uterine artery. This allows the intermediate radiologist to bring in small plastic beads into the artery supplying blood to the uterine fibroid tumors. In this way, blood flow to the uterine fibroid tumor is blocked causing it to shrink; hence, symptoms are relieved.

Then she takes your blood to test for pregnancy, hormone imbalance, and a tumor marker called C-125 that shows if the cyst is cancer. If the test is positive for cancer, I would always want a second opinion as the test for C-125 can be false positive, that means it is not very reliable.

Doctors usually recommend surgery of dermoid cysts on ovaries when they do not go away after some menstrual cycles, the cyst / s grow larger, or look strange on the ultrasound. Unfortunately dermoid cysts are oftentimes affecting both ovaries, they come in pairs.

Signs, Symptoms and Causes of Candidiasis

Candidiasis (also known as Thrush, Candida or a Yeast Infection) is a disease caused by the fungal bacteria candida albicans.

Candida albicans is present in the bodies of over half the population, where it lives in natural equilibrium with other bacteria and causes no ill-effects to its host. However, if the population of the bacteria is not kept in check by the body’s immune system, it can grow out of control and result in the disease Candidiasis.

The candida albicans bacteria thrives in environments that are warm and moist, which is why Candidiasis almost always affects either the mouth, tongue and throat (oral thrush) or the genitals (vaginal thrush or penile thrush).

Symptoms of Oral Thrush

The main symptom of oral thrush is a patchy white substance inside the mouth (on the insides of the cheeks, palate, tongue and gums). It may also be present on the lining of the throat. These patches can rubbed off using your finger and the tissue beneath will appear red and sore and may even bleed slightly.

Symptoms of Genital Thrush

Again, white patches will be present as well as soreness and itchiness around the affected area. In the case of an internal vaginal infection in women, the white patches will manifest as a white discharge, similar in consistency to cottage cheese.

Causes of Candidiasis

So, if the bacteria that causes candidiasis is present in so many people, why do only a small percentage of carriers develop thrush?

As mentioned previously, candida albicans lives in a fine balance with other bacteria in the body, which is controlled by the body’s natural defenses. If this balance is upset, then the bacteria can grow out of control, which results in thrush. An imbalance can occur:

  • in people with weaker immune systems that can’t control the bacteria (e.g. people suffering from diseases such as depression or HIV)
  • in people that are on or have recently finished a course of antibiotics
  • in people that have recently recovered from a flu bug, cold or similar disease

In addition, candida albicans feeds on the sugars that are present within the body, which puts people that suffer from diabetes into the high-risk group, because they have high blood-sugar levels.

And finally, people that wear ill-fitted or unclean dentures are also at higher risk from developing oral thrush as they can help create ideal living conditions for the bacteria that causes candidiasis.

Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease Treatment

Alcoholic fatty liver disease not unlike other forms of fatty liver is reversible. When the cause of fatty liver is alcohol, it is more likely to develop into cirrhosis and cancer, so it is very important to reverse it and prevent it from haunting you again.

Alcohol damages your liver cells by overloading them with work. When that happens fat accumulates inside them because they can not handle taking care of both fat and alcohol (fatty liver, or steatosis stage). As more fat accumulates, less damage the liver can end and cells start to die and be replaced by fibrotic tissue (cirrhosis stage). Fibrotic tissue does not function and leads to chronic liver failure. Damage to the liver also increases the probability of developing cancer.

But even when you already have alcoholic fatty liver disease, treatment is possible. The first step is, of course, reducing alcohol make or, better yet, remove it completely. Alcohol not only damages your liver directly, but it is causing malabsorption of nutrients essential for liver recovery.

The next step is adjusting your diet. Make sure you eat a balanced diet and, if at all possible, become vegetarian. Meat, fish, eggs, and milk put extra load on the liver, which you want to avoid. On the other hand, fruit, vegetables, grains, and beans are rich in nutrients and poor in calories, providing the nutrients necessary for liver regeneration while keeping calories low to signal the liver to burn the fat inside it.

Finally, one last step is taking supplements. A few herbs have been proven to cause liver regeneration and fight liver cancer, and they have healed people with steatosis, cirrhosis and even liver cancer. The most important of these are milk thistle, and artichoke, but the list is very long. You can either try to take one supplement of each or better yet, use one of the many combinations available.

Alcoholic fatty liver disease treatment is one of the best steps you can take towards health. It is beneficial for everyone who takes, or took, alcohol, because even moderate amount has been shown to cause some degree of liver damage.
