How to Recognize the Symptoms of Gall Bladder Disease

Due to inappropriate diet and obesity, many people suffer from gall bladder disease. Gall bladder disease commonly affects overweight people as a result of high blood cholesterol levels. The consumption of foods that are rich in fat also contributes to the development of gall bladder disease and many people suffer from gall bladder affections as a consequence of inappropriate diet.

Gall bladder disease is usually caused by gallstones, solid structures formed from cholesterol, calcium and bile salts. Gallstones can cause cholecystitis (inflammation and swelling of the gall bladder), choledocholithiasis (occurs when gallstones accumulate inside the bile duct) cholangitis (infection of the gall bladder and bile duct) and pancreatitis.

Judging by the seriousness of gall bladder disease and its rate of development, there are two forms of the disorder: chronic cholecystitis (biliary colic) and acute cholecystitis. In the chronic form, the symptoms of gall bladder disease are milder and have a recidivating character. In the acute forms, the symptoms of gall bladder disease are very intense and in some cases suggest the development of complications.

The generalized symptoms of gall bladder disease are: abdominal pain, indigestion, vomiting, nausea, bloating of the abdomen, discomfort and pain when ingesting fatty foods. These symptoms of gall bladder disease are common in patients with chronic cholecystitis. However, apart from gall bladder pain, many patients may have no other symptoms of gall bladder disease. Gall bladder pain is characteristic to all people who suffer from gall bladder disease and it usually occurs after meals. This major symptom of gall bladder disease usually intensifies at night and after physical effort.

Persistent bitter taste in the mouth, bad breath and headaches can also be symptoms of gall bladder disease. Other symptoms of gall bladder disease are constipation and discolored stools.

In its acute form, the symptoms of gall bladder disease are accompanied by fever, sweating and severe pain attacks. Pain attacks are very intense in acute cholecystitis and they may last for a few hours. Pain episodes usually occur after meals and at night. The pain usually occurs in the abdominal region, the mid back region and under the right shoulder. Fever suggests the aggravation of gall bladder disease, occurring due to bacterial infection. Other symptoms of gall bladder disease that may indicate the development of complications are: yellowish aspect of the skin and eyes, chills, sweating and ongoing abdominal pain.

Gall bladder disease can become serious if it not treated appropriately. It is very important to pay attention to the symptoms of gall bladder disease in order to timely spot the presence of the disorder. If the symptoms of gall bladder disease don’t ameliorate after medical treatment and appropriate diet, surgery may be the only option left. However, gall bladder surgery is uncomplicated, involves minimal risks and allows patients to recover quickly after the surgical intervention. Many people with recidivating pain often decide to have their gall bladder removed even if their condition is not serious. Gall bladder surgery is a very effective way of overcoming the intense symptoms of gall bladder disease and it is also considered to be very safe and quick to recover from.

Cysts in Ovaries – The Top 5 Causes and Risk Factors Involved

First of all let us find out what exactly is the cyst in your ovary or an ovarian cyst. An ovarian cyst is a collection of fluid / liquid, which is surrounded by a very thin wall, and is within an ovary itself. Any ovarian follicle that is larger than about two centimeters is termed an ovarian cyst. An ovarian cyst can be as small as a pea, or larger than a cantaloupe. Although, an ovarian cyst can affect women of all ages, yet they occur most often, during a woman’s childbearing years.

Some ovarian cysts can cause problems, such as bleeding and or pain. Surgery or operation may be required to remove cysts that are larger than 5 centimeters in diameter.

Although, a majority of the ovarian cysts are simply functional in nature, yet some ovarian cysts can turn out to be cancerous in nature. As the first step of correctly diagnosing and treating ovarian cysts is to locate the cause of the disease, it is essential to understand the possible causes of ovarian cysts. However, there is no single cause of ovarian cysts. Ovarian cyst can be triggered by a variety of primary factors and secondary factors. It is imperative to understand these different factors in order to seek appropriate treatment.

Here are the top 5 causes of having a cyst or cysts in ovary / ovarian cyst.

1. If any lady has a family history of female members in blood relations already have had a case of ovarian cyst or PCOS or had any other kind of cyst in ovary, than you may also have the possibility to develop cysts in your ovaries. It’s a kind of hereditary weakness. Although genetics plays a leading part in the cause of an ovary cyst, yet it has been determined that alterations to lifestyle can eliminate some of the ovarian cyst symptoms. Comparisons between those who suffer from ovarian cysts against those who don’t, has shown that the two cases have a different genetic pattern.

2. If a lady has a weak immune system, she has more chances to develop cysts in ovary. A weak immune may system invites trouble, as it is not able to put up a natural fight against ovarian cyst triggers. There are many factors including dietary factors and having lesser sleep can also lead to weakened immune system.

3. Any lady can develop hormonal imbalance, which can be as a result of certain types of diet. This can increase the chance of having an ovarian cyst. For example, Carbohydrates and processed food can impact your immune system, which can reduce the likelihood of a women’s body defending her against ovarian cysts. It is also important to maintain fresh vegetables in your diet to ensure that toxins are removed with the normal process associated with fresh vegetables.

4. If any lady has or had been on serum sex-hormone binding globulin or SHGB, this can also worsen the condition of her ovarian cysts. This will result a possible resistance to insulin which the leads to the ovaries producing an abnormal amount of the male hormone androgen.

5. Another cause of an ovarian cyst can be due to failed ovulation process. Sometimes, the ovaries fail to release egg on a monthly basis. In this case the ovulation fails to produce progesterone and hence brings about hormonal imbalance. This can then lead to the formation of a cyst in your ovaries.

The risk factors involved in the treatment for having a cyst on the ovary.

This has been experienced by all ladies how had ovarian cysts that the doctors will recommend to resort to birth control pills to reduce cysts but this has not been the solution. Infertility is the highest risk involved in taking birth control pills. Many ladies then developed bigger sized cyst, which had to go under surgery to remove the cyst on the ovary. But the surgery is not the solution, because many ladies then developed another bigger size cysts, had so surgery may lead to another surgery.

A combined approach of treatment is preferable to traditional forms of treatment. A holistic approach or natural treatment is necessary, combining lifestyle changes with scientific treatment. Thousands of ladies have fond the Holistic as the best treatment to completely eliminate the threat of having an ovarian cyst. And this thing reassures that Holistic Approach a Natural Treatment for Ovarian Cyst is the treatment that lots of ladies around the world is now relying on to eradicate an ovarian cyst or PCOS.

This has been known to work very well indeed.

Hepatitis E – The Other Waterborne Hepatitis Virus

Also known as enterically transmitted non-A non-B hepatitis has been the cause of several outbreaks and sporadic cases over a large geographical region.

The latest outbreak is currently underway in the African nation of Uganda. There have been 210 people admitted to hospitals due to this disease with 12 deaths reported.

The clinical course of hepatitis E is similar to that of hepatitis A with no chronic form of the disease. Jaundice, fever, loss of appetite and lethargy are common symptoms.

People get infected primarily through the fecal-oral route, usually through contaminated water or food. There have been several cases of hepatitis E infection in France due to eating raw figatellu, which is made with pig liver.

Transmission through blood transfusion has been documented albeit rare. Mother to baby transmission is possible.

Much like hepatitis A, the fatality rate is low with the exception of pregnant women where it can reach 20% among those infected in the third trimester. Liver failure is a frequent outcome with pregnant women.

In the current outbreak in Uganda is attributed to a local cultural belief which discourages the use of latrines. The practice of defecating in river beds is common among the region of the country affected; however it is also the places where people get their drinking water and water for other domestic uses.

Hepatitis E is found endemically in countries that have inadequate environmental sanitation. It is most frequently seen in Asia, Africa, Central America and the Middle East.

Laboratory diagnosis of hepatitis E is based on detecting antibodies in serum. There is no vaccine or drugs available for prevention or treatment. Any treatment available is supportive.

Side Effects of Anti Anxiety Drugs

Many people experience some fear and some anxiety at various times in their lives. Those with anxiety disorders are affected by fear to such a degree that they can’t function or live a normal live without the help of drugs. One of the most effective and prevalent drugs for anxiety disorder is diazepam.

Over 10% of Americans are on some type of anti-anxiety drug. The most popular one today is Xanax but diazepam is not very far behind.

Diazepam, or Valium as most people commonly know it, is an anti-anxiety or anti-panic agent. It works by effecting the release of the amino acid GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) into the brain. GABA acts to suppresses the nerve impulses leading to a feeling of relaxation.

Although a very useful and positive drug in the treatment of anxiety disorders – as well as insomnia, muscle spasms, and seizures – anyone taking it for anxiety should be aware of its negatives also.

Valium is habit forming and very addictive. Self medicating yourself with diazepam is a bad idea. because you can easily develop a dependency on it, especially if you take it in large doses over an extended period of time. Diazepam should only be taken under a doctor’s care and never take more than the prescribed dosage. Because of its addictive properties, you may suffer withdrawal symptoms when your doctor eventually weans you off of the drug.

Valium is hard on the kidneys and liver. If you have cirrhosis of the liver, any type of abnormal kidney function, or any other medical problems with your liver you should inform your doctor. Your dosage may have to be severely cut or dropped altogether. It may be taken with or without food and is metabolized by the liver and excreted mainly by the kidney. Dosages of Valium may need to be lowered in patients with abnormal kidney function.

Valium may also cause drowsiness and dizziness in some people. Until you are sure how your body will react to it, you should avoid driving, sports, or strenuous activities while taking it. One very striking effect of this drug is that it accumulates in the body. So even if you haven’t taken it for the while, you may still find yourself tired or sluggish with not apparent reason why. It very well may be the build up of the drug in your body.

Be aware that if you take antacids while taking Valium, the antacids will act to neutralize the drug, making it less effective. Thus you may find it not having the desired calming effect on your nervous system.

Even though diazepam is sometimes used to treat alcohol withdrawal symptoms, this should only be done under a doctor’s care. Normally, alcohol should not be taken by anyone on diazepam. Mixing the two could possibly trigger an epileptic attack. Don’t take it if you are pregnant or are breast feeding your baby unless directed to by your doctor. There is strong evidence that it can harm the fetus. In the case of breast feeding, diazepam is retained in the breast milk, which means that it will be passed to the baby possibly causing addiction.

Diazepam is an extremely helpful drug and many suffering from anxiety would have a much tougher time without it. Just be careful when taking it.

Removing Tonsil Stones Quickly and Effectively

Getting rid of tonsil stones naturally, effectively and quickly is not an easy task, unless you know exactly how do to it. In this article, we are going to go over some of the greatest and natural ways to go about removing tonsil calculi quickly, so that you will be able to get that fresh and fantastic breath back in no time at all! We are also going to describe exactly what a tonsillolith is so that you know if you have them or not.

Understanding What They Are

Believe it or not, a lot of people have tonsil stones and have gone about removing them without even knowing it. What a tonsil stone is, is basically just a pocket of bacteria that has been built up from food debris and calcium deposits. These little bumps can make your breath smell extremely bad and can overall hurt your throat and even your ears. This is why removing tonsil stones is so important.

Natural Treatments

So you understand exactly what a tonsillolith is, how do you go about removing the buggers? Well, that is exactly what we are going to talk about below.

* The first way to go about removing your stones naturally is to flex your throat a bit. While it might be difficult to do this when you have a sore throat, this is a great way to go about removing the stones quickly and easily. The reason why this way works is because it adds in pressure to the tonsillar crypts, which in turn forces the stones right out of your throat!

* The next way to go about removing the throat chunks is by drinking a lot of water. This actually keeps your mouth very soggy and reduces a lot of the bad odor that is caused by the calculi. Water can actually help prevent a lot of the bacteria build up in your throat as well.

* Another way that you can start removing tonsil stones is by controlling your diet and cutting out a lot of the junk food and soda that you are eating and drinking. The reason for this is because these things can actually help build up the bacteria, which in turn will cause more tonsil stones for you to remove! You can also cut down on your alcoholic beverages as well.

These are just three of the most popular ways to go about removing tonsil stones quickly and easily, there are also some ways that your doctor can go about removing them for you.

If natural treatments to start getting rid of stones are not working, your doctor will be able to start removing your stones by surgery. The surgery should be a last resort and it does involve a laser. The laser will run along the stones and blast them off of your throat and your tongue. It is quick and has very little discomfort, however you definitely want to try the natural ways to go about removing tonsil stones first.

Treat H Pylori Infection Effectively With Homeopathy

Hundreds and thousands of body functions are going on 24×7 in our body, and we are not even aware of even 5% of them. Do we hear the heart beating, or kidneys filtering, or stomach churning the food that we just ate? No! It is when these bodily functions get derailed, we become aware of them and we term it as dis-ease.

In the similar fashion, there are many bacterias that reside in our body for ages, only to make ourselves aware of them when they start disturbing our health economy. H. pylori is one such bacteria. It is estimated that around 50-60% of the total world population hosts H. pylori, but only few of them get affected by it.

What is H. Pylori?

Helicobacter pylori is a type of bacteria that infects our stomach, usually during our childhood. It is one of the most common causes of peptic ulcers and is known to be very obstinate to respond to the treatment. Most people with H. pylori will never have any signs or symptoms, since we may have an innate resistance to its harmful effects.

Symptoms:

· Severe and persistent abdominal pain

· Fullness or bloating of the abdomen

· Burning in the food pipe and stomach

· Nausea and vomiting

· Frequent eructations (burping)

· Dark colored vomit or black tarry stools

· In severe case, difficulty in swallowing

· Complications:

o Ulcers in the stomach wall

o Inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis)

o Severe mal-absorption leading to weight loss

Spread:

H. pylori infection can spread through direct contact with saliva or vomit/fecal matter. It can thus be spread through contaminated food or water. Thus a poor hygiene is the primary culprit behind the spread of this worldwide infection.

Precipitating factors:

· Severe anxiety

· Type A personalities

· Smoking

· Surprisingly, spicy food has been proved to have minimal role

Diagnosis:

· Blood test to detect specific antibodies

· Upper gastric tract endoscopy

· Urea breath test

Treatment options:

Allopathic mode of treatment primarily includes antibiotics to kill the bacteria in association with various kinds of medicines to reduce the acidity of the stomach. For those who have got peptic ulcers, surgical correction adds to the treatment plan in addition to the above.

Homeopathic treatment:

The primary aim of homeopathic treatment is targeted towards restoring the constitutional balance within, to aid in setting the body-equilibrium. It is achieved by carefully selecting an appropriately suited remedy for an individual patient, considering the various characteristics at the physical, emotional and intellectual sphere. A professional is trained in ascertaining these qualities and analysing them to arrive at the most-similar remedy selection.

Homeopathic treatment of H. Pylori infection involves two approaches:

1. Treating the acute symptom picture with a remedy selected on the basis of disease picture alone. Remedies like Carbo veg, Arsenic album, Nux vomica, Robinia and Anacardium have proved to act wonderfully in acute exacerbations of the underlying chronic ailment

2. Supporting the acute remedies with a constitutional deep-acting remedy that will set the basic constitution at its equilibrium, thus restoring and maintaining the health for longer time period. This medicine varies from person to person and is thus selected by a professional homeopath.

Cooking Frozen Packaged Meals in a Toaster Oven

Many people buy a toaster oven so that they don’t have to turn on their energy hogging full-sized oven for small meals. Then, to their dismay, they notice that most prepackaged frozen meals have this warning: “Do not cook in a toaster oven.” These countertop ovens are just smaller versions of normal ovens, so is it really a bad idea to cook frozen meals in them?

First, lets look at the differences between toaster ovens and full-sized conventional ovens. Both produce dry heat and in general, both have the same temperature range. The method of heating varies from oven to oven, with conventional models using either gas or electricity as the primary energy source. Toaster ovens rely solely on electric heat, but this is no different from many regular ovens out there. So why would you not be able to cook a frozen meal in a toaster oven?

I had some idea of why this would be, but rather than rely on conjecture I went straight to the source. I contacted four major companies whose products warned against using a toaster oven. All four gave me the same answer: uneven and unpredictable heating could lead to improperly cooked food. This can lead to food poisoning.

I have tested many toaster ovens throughout the years and I can tell you that they do not all have uneven and unpredictable heating, but many do. The issue with many is a discrepancy between the heat setting and actual internal oven temperature. You may have set the oven to 375 degrees F as directed by the package instructions but have an actual temperature of much less than that. This is especially true with cheap models that are poorly insulated. This can lead to undercooked foods which can be dangerous to consume.

Is there a way around this problem? There certainly is! Accurate instant-read thermometers are easy to find and inexpensive. Many have probes that can be left inside the oven while it is in use. This will allow you to ensure the internal oven temperature is where it needs to be. This will take care of any issues regarding unpredictable heating or temperature.

Uneven heating is much more difficult to overcome. Many inexpensive toaster ovens cook food very unevenly, leaving some portions of the food burnt while others are raw or undercooked. This isn’t just a problem with frozen meals; it is problematic with anything you cook. The problem is just amplified when you start with a product that is frozen rather than room temperature or close to it. I would never attempt to cook a frozen meal in an appliance that has issues with uneven heating. I would also not want to use that appliance for any of my other cooking needs.

So is it safe to cook a frozen meal in a toaster oven? I would say the answer to that is “maybe.” You probably should not risk it unless you are absolutely sure the appliance you are using cooks things evenly and accurately. Use a thermometer to monitor your actual temperature and check the internal temperature of the food once it is done. Most packaged foods will tell you what the internal temperature of the food needs to be for that food to be safe. There are also temperature guidelines provided by most local health departments. Use those if you are unsure of what the target temperature of the finished product needs to be.

Visit Toaster Oven Reviews to find the best toaster oven for frozen meals and so much more. You will find thousands of reviews as well as a handy buying guide to help you along the way.

Three Ways H Pylori Can Kill

In a recent survey I conducted on H Pylori, one of the most common questions that people asked was “Can H Pylori Kill?” Well, unfortunately the answer to this question is “yes, H Pylori can kill”. It may surprise you to read this, especially if your doctor has dismissed H Pylori as only a minor problem (some doctors won’t even treat H Pylori, despite overwhelming medical and scientific evidence that the bacterium can cause severe illness).

So how can H Pylori kill?

1. Perforated Ulcer, Bleeding Ulcer, Perforated Peptic Ulcer

This is a very serious condition where an untreated stomach ulcer can burn through the wall of the stomach (or other areas of the GI tract), allowing digestive juices and food to leak into the abdominal cavity. Treatment generally requires immediate surgery. The ulcer is known initially as a peptic ulcer before the ulcer burns through the full thickness of the stomach or duodenal wall. Because H Pylori causes 80% stomach ulcers and 95% duodenal ulcers, this is one way that it can be fatal.

2. Stomach Cancer (MALT Lymphoma)

MALT lymphoma is a form of lymphoma involving the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT), frequently of the stomach, but virtually any mucosal site can be afflicted. Gastric MALT lymphoma is frequently associated (72-98%) with chronic inflammation (gastritis) as a result of the presence of Helicobacter pylori. It is estimated that approximately 1% of people with H Pylori develop this condition which, if left untreated, may lead to death. If the disease is limited to the stomach (which is assessed with computed tomography), then 70-80% of patients will have a complete regression on treatment with antibiotic eradication of H. pylori.

3. Heart Disease

Recent studies have suggested an association between H Pylori and heart disease. Although the research is not yet definitive, there is enough evidence to keep an open mind on this issue. Several mechanisms, including molecular mimicry and elevations in cholesterol and inflammatory markers in the blood (such as C reactive protein) have been postulated as contributing to heart disease.

**What To Do**

The diseases discussed in this article are advanced and serious conditions that will likely only affect a small percentage of people with H Pylori. Millions more people, however will suffer with peptic ulcers, duodenal ulcers, reflux, stomach pain, IBS, rosacea, hives and nausea as a result of H Pylori.

It is, therefore, very important to treat H Pylori and run follow up testing 4 weeks after treatment to ensure that it has been eradicated. Triple Therapy antibiotics will work for some people, but others will require a natural treatment using herbs such as mastic gum, MSM, berberine, garlic and Matula Herbal Formula.

A Positive Impact – Your Thinking Indigestion and Acid Reflux

Most people dismiss the power of positive thinking as something that only the

most deluded people believe in. The mind is a powerful tool and has incredible

control over and effect on the body. Positive thinking used in the right way and

at the right time can have huge benefits for people suffering from a great many

different medical conditions. Acid reflux is no different in this regard.

There are 9 individual steps in using positive thinking for yourself.

1. Clearly define a goal and purpose. In your case this will be acid reflux and

the symptoms of indigestion and heartburn. Never, ever have more than one goal

or purpose – it will only confuse matters for you. Choose a single goal and

stick to it.

2. Take a step back from the situation you are in and tell yourself what you need

to do. Using a gentle and confident tone tell yourself what you need to do to

reach your goal.

3. Give yourself advice in a way that you would give advice to a friend.

Reassure yourself and use common sense. Always follow your own best advice

yourself.

4. Have belief in yourself and give yourself encouragement. Do not become overly

enthusiastic when doing so. Remain calm and sincere when encouraging yourself.

5. Provide yourself with reasons for reaching your goals. Always keep the

reasons why you need to overcome specific obstacles in the front of your mind.

Remind yourself of past successes so that you know you are making progress.

Remind yourself of your own strengths. Strong and positive reasons will be

enough to keep you motivated and give you the strength and determination to

reach the goal you have set yourself.

6. Aim for your favorite positive emotion. Be positive, cheerful and

enthusiastic. Having a loving attitude is one of the best to have as it can have

the most positive effect on you. Determination is another great emotion to use.

This will keep you moving forward even when you find yourself struggling.

7. Practice anti-negativity each day. This simply means to do what you can to

get rid of the negative, self-defeating thinking going on in your head. Attack

these negative thoughts with all your strength so that you can find a neutral

ground to make further progress from.

8. Keep the sentences and phrases you use short and simple. Make sure they are

directed at a specific action or bearing.

9. Repeat what works. As you develop positive thinking skills you will notice that

you use certain processes or activities more than others. Use them often and use

them well.

Does the power of positive thinking actually work? Some say it has no power at

all but how can you know without trying? Use the power of your mind to try and

overcome acid reflux and indigestion – what have you got to lose?

H Pylori Treatment – Can Green Tea Be Used in H Pylori Treatment?

Having worked with H pylori patients for more than a half decade, I can safely say that natural treatments for H pylori and many other chronic digestive infections can be highly effective when they are used in an appropriate manner.

Green tea is something we have not used in our protocols, but it would be fantastic for patients if green tea is, indeed, capable of eradicating H pylori because of it’s ease of use and cost-effectiveness compared with many of the relatively expensive natural substances on the market.

In September 2008, a team of scientists from the University of Massachusetts Medical School were able to demonstrate that green tea could reduce the growth of two types of Helicobacter organisms: H pylori and H felis.

Whilst this piece of research is very interesting, we have to be very careful about how to interpret the findings.

Reducing the growth of H pylori is not the same as killing it outright. In fact, it is a completely different concept altogether. So whilst the findings of this study are interesting – and promising – we cannot conclude that green tea is capable of eradicating H pylori.

I am sure you are aware that green tea is used as a beverage widely in many countries. It would make sense that those people who drink green tea would have lower rates of infection.

Well, in my experience of having worked with countless hundreds of people around the world on a one-to-one basis, I can say with a high degree of certainty that green tea consumption does not eradicate H pylori on its own. If it did, people who drink green tea would not have H pylori.

A second factor must be taken into consideration when evaluating the above study. When we examine the study closely, we see that the researchers demonstrated that green tea inhibited the growth of H pylori in vitro.

In vitro means “outside the body”. in plain terms, this would be a test tube or petri-dish in the lab.

A substance that inhibits H pylori in a test tube or dish does not necessarily have the ability to inhibit the bacteria in the human stomach or intestine where acid, enzymes and many other substances are present.

This issue crops up time and time again in the research I read. Many natural substances are promoted and sold on the Internet on the basis of very dodgy research findings. As a practitioner with a wealth of research and knowledge, I feel it is my duty to raise these cautions with you.

You must be very diligent when you read about these claims. Just because a piece of research cites a positive effect, the study may not be truly representative of reality!

True, some common foods and beverages can be effective against H pylori, but they do not work for everyone. If they did, people who foods such as eat broccoli and garlic and those people who drink cranberry juice and green tea would never have H pylori.

The reality is that these substances may help some people, but they will not be optimal choices for everyone.

In my experience, substances such as mastic gum, cabbage juice, probiotics, sulforaphane and matula herbal formula – when used correctly – still offer by far the best natural alternatives to the pharmaceutical triple therapy treatments for H pylori.

Coffee vs. Water — Which One Actually Gives You More Energy?

Coffee is by far one of the world’s most popular and loved beverages. According to Wirthlin Worldwide (a market research company), North Americans consume on average 1.8 cups of coffee per day. Compare this to our water consumption. It is recommended to consume on average 8-10 8oz glasses of “living water” (ie. mineral rich, slightly alkaline, and energy producing when in body) each day. However, scary statistics reveal that 20% of North Americans drink no water at all while only 42% of us consume a mere 2 glasses or fewer.

The struggle between water and coffee is intensified further when you take into consideration that for each cup of coffee (100 mg caffeine) your body needs 3 cups of water to compensate for the water loss that occurs due to coffee’s diuretic effect.

Before ordering your next “mocha latte frappawhatever…” remember the following facts about coffee:

o Coffee intensifies stress, causing an average 40% increase in adrenaline. This results in increased blood pressure, heart rate, perspiration, nervousness, and irritability.

o Coffee increases the secretion of stomach acid by 400%, contributing to gastritis and peptic ulcers.

o Coffee have a 50% higher risk of heart attack (British medical journal Lancet)

o Coffee causes a significant loss of nutrients, especially magnesium, potassium, calcium, zinc, and B vitamins.

o Coffee is a major source of cadmium, a heavy metal that has been linked to cancer and immune suppression.

If you’re a woman, please consider the following even scarier facts:

o Caffeine is linked to ovarian cancer, and bladder and kidney cancers.

o Coffee increases the risk of miscarriage and can double the rate with just 1 cup (160 mg caffeine) per day (JAMA, 1993).

o Coffee has adverse effects on the baby’s muscular development and nutritional balance and increases the risk of birth defects.

o Coffee reduces fertility. More than 1 cup per day makes a woman half as likely to conceive (American Journal of Epidemiology)!

In regards to your energy, the caffeine inherent in coffee is the stimulant that gives you that short lasted energy rush in the morning. But here’s the problem, caffeine is like any other stimulant – it is a drug which creates dependency. This dependency occurs as result of the caffeine receptors in your body which become saturated fairly quickly. As such, you need to consume more caffeine to elicit the same effect! You can see how this vicious cycle can get out of hand. If you’re a coffee drinker just think of the last time you went without coffee for a day or two. How did you feel? Tired, irritable, headache? Exactly!

Water is bliss

Now consider the wonders of water. Considering that the adult body is at least 60% water its no wonder that clean “living water” can have absolutely phenomenal effects on your body.

Water is central to many bodily functions including circulation, digestion, absorption, and elimination of wastes. Water also carries electrolytes (ie. sodium, potassium) which are essential for electrical signaling within the body.

Considering its many roles in the body, is it any wonder that you can feel tired and sluggish when dehydrated?

Water is also a natural blood thinner since it makes up the majority of our blood. Water constitutes 95% of the plasma component of the blood which, in turn, comprises roughly 55% of total blood volume. Therefore, when your body does not receive enough water, the blood loses its fluidity as water is drawn out of the blood. The result – clumping of red blood cells. This increased blood viscosity leads you to feeling more tired and sluggish.

So, one of the easiest, safest, and best ways to improve your energy throughout the day is to constantly sip on “living water” to keep your body hydrated and functional.

A rule of thumb for how much water you should be drinking per day at rest is the following:

Multiply your body weight (lbs) x 0.55 and divide by 8. This will give you the number of 8oz glasses that you should be drinking per day at rest.

Cardiac Asthma Treatment – Get The Facts Right

Cardiac asthma is wheezing due to congestive heart failure and in the true sense it is not asthma. Clinically it is a condition caused by severe reflexive blocking and or by edema of the lungs. It is an asthmatic-type breathing caused by sudden blockage of the pulmonary circulation. The bronchial spasm in cardiac asthma is caused by back pressure from the left side of the heart to the lungs. Symptomatically cardiac asthma is quite similar to lung asthma.

Patients with heart failure or heart valves that do not open properly experience shortness of breath not necessarily accompanied by wheezing, coughing, increased rapid and superficial breathing, increased blood pressure and heart beat rate and a feeling of uneasiness. Symptoms usually occur with exercise or at night after going to bed. Cardiac asthma is usually due to a major mechanical fault of the heart. The reduced pumping efficacy of the heart leads to a build up of fluid in the lungs. This build up of the fluid causes the air passages to narrow up and eventually cause wheezing and other related symptoms. It is a life-threatening condition and one must seek medical advice immediately on experiencing any symptoms.

The key to effective management of cardiac asthma is right diagnosis, which includes differentiation between patients who wheeze only due to acute heart failure and those who wheeze from other disorders, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia or acute respiratory distress syndrome. Treatment is directed at improving the pump function of the heart along with medications.

Treatments mainly focus on controlling the night coughs, control of the edema, control of inflow load and the amount of residual blood in the left ventricle. Diuretics (water pills) free the lungs of excess fluid and other medications such as morphines, nitrates help the heart muscles pump more effectively. The wheezing gradually stops when the heart failure has been well controlled.

In some patients who suffer from asthma and heart failure simultaneously, treatment is required for both conditions. A combination of bronchodilators, supplementary oxygen is generally effective in controlling the asthmatic symptoms in addition to treating heart failure in such patients. Corticosteroids are prescribed only when the patient with acute cardiac asthma has not responded well to initial therapy. Corticosteroids usually take long hours to give peak effect. If the asthma is caused by a heart valve that is not working properly or a hole between the heart chambers, surgery or other procedures may be suggested.

Colostrum For Heart Disease – Cardiomyopathy

Colostrum for Cardiomyopathy (Humans/Canines)

Cardiomyopathy is a type of heart disease in which the heart is abnormally enlarged, thickened or stiffened. This usually weakens the heart’s ability to pump blood.

Both types, ischemic and non-ischemic, of cardiomyopathies that people as well as canines suffer from will experience benefits from the introduction of colostrum into the daily diet.

Not only does the colostrum have an impact on the regeneration of cells, especially those damaged over time. Colostrum helps by reintroducing into a system, which over time and exposure to different environmental factors, has become depleted. This depletion allows for a breakdown of the body and its ability to regenerate at the cellular level.

The components necessary for the body to be more receptive to regeneration are found within the substance known as “True” colostrum. What marketers are summarily releasing as colostrum has been scientifically shown to be transitional milk through the laboratories of Cornell University, Minnesota Valley Testing Laboratory and many more.

I always tell people don’t trust anyone, simply ask for 3rd party validation of what the science has found on that particular product; if they can’t or won’t provide 3rd party validation you are putting at risk your pocket book but more importantly your health!

Over the years, many people have approached me with their story; the following is a small piece of a documented personal experience of Arlan Reynolds, he was diagnosed with congestive heart failure following a diagnosis of cardiomyopathy. As the summary relates, the individual routinely supplemented his diet with high quality first milking colostrum.

“I was told that I had an enlarged heart – that there was a certain percentage of it that was actually ‘dead.’ I was given very little hope of ever having a normal life again,” recalls Arlan. When he discovered colostrum and began taking it, Arlan had no expectation for what might happen. He faithfully took 8-10 capsules/day and he continued with his regular nutritional program. As time went on, he noticed an increase in energy and stamina but he had no idea what was really happening until 12 months later when he went in for his annual physical exam. “My doctor took X-rays of my heart along with other routine tests,” says Arlan. “He compared the X-rays with the ones which had originally been taken. Then he sent me to a special facility to have his findings substantiated. After numerous other tests, including more X-rays, an EKG and an echo-cardiogram, the doctor told me that he didn’t understand what had taken place, but that all the tests indicated my heart had returned to normal size,” relates Arlan. My doctor said that in all his years of practice, he had never seen an enlarged heart return to normal size. Excerpted from an article in The Colostrum Option vol. 3, 2000, titled, “Doctors Can’t Explain His Recovery From Congestive Heart Failure.”

I have had the pleasure of Arlan’s company for many years now. Recently Arlan came to me and expressed his thanks because of the changes that he has had. “Without your Immune Tree colostrum Dr. K, I wouldn’t be here. Every chance I get, I tell people what your product has done for me and I have had other folks get on your product and experience the same benefits I did. I recommend it to everyone!”

The benefits realized here were most likely due to the small amounts of growth hormone and substantial amounts of insulin-like growth factor-1 present in high quality bovine colostrum. Growth hormone is extremely potent and, thus, only a small quantity is required. It directly influences the generation of new cells and the repair of existing tissues.

Scientific knowledge about the natural growth factors, what they do and how they act on cells in the body, and especially the heart, is evolving very rapidly and continues to grow.

As we age, the ability of our body to create an adequate supply of IGF-1 is diminished and subsequently limits the body in its ability to regenerate. If you look at the way our body is bombarded with different negative influences from environmental, food, air and water pollution, is it any wonder why our ability to produce youthful levels of the IGF-1 superfamily diminish.

How can you maintain youthful levels of the natural growth factors that can have a major impact on the regeneration of heart tissue not to mention the rest of our body?

By maintaining a constant supply of IGF-1 in our body from colostrum; in order to get the results we all are looking for, a true colostrum must be ingested, the quantity of IGF-1 found within colostrum should be approximately 2300-2400 ng/gram of powder. This is enough IGF-1 to have a major beneficial impact on those suffering from heart disease.

Even more importantly, as we age the cells in our body do not reproduce themselves as well; we may lose as much as 1/2 of the circulating IGF-1 by the time we are 40 and, since IGF-1 is a primary factor in the ability of cells to grow and reproduce, it is highly desirable to have an appropriate level of IGF-1 in the circulation through dietary supplementation to limit the ever increasing rate of cell death.
