Low Iron and Yeast Infections – Can Iron Deficiency Cause Yeast Infections in Women?

The question of whether or not there is a connection between low iron and yeast infection, particularly in women, is rather complex. But here, in simple language, you’ll find the answer as well as what actions to take.

Yeast infections are more common in individuals whose diets are usually low in iron. They are also very common in women during heavy menstruation when iron levels in the body diminish considerably. So there does seem to be a link between iron deficiency and yeast infections…

Yeast infections are caused by a yeast-like fungus called Candida albicans, which is normally kept under control by your body’s good bacteria. Only when it over-grows out of control does it turn into an infection.

So this good bacteria v bad bacteria ‘balance’ is important. But there are several things that can upset this balance. Two of them are a lowered immune system and friendly bacteria depletion…

1. Iron Deficiency and Your Immune System

You may share a similar experience with your life. Parents tend to try to influence their children career choices. If you had picked something that you had absolutely no interest in as a living, would have you been able to cope with a life lived doing something you hate? You would probably have fallen into depression, if that was the case. On another note, it’s quite normal that we as children do everything in our power to not disappoint our parents.

It’s therefore critical in Sartre’s opinion to be capable of standing on your own when it comes to picking your own path to happiness and disregard the noise around you. If you know something is right for you, don’t be afraid to go for it.

Acknowledging this, it’s very hard to get anywhere without a helping hand all the way to the end of our road. At times we’ll inevitably have to take detours to gather momentum. As such, it is important to never lose sight of our goals, even if we can’t always walk a straight line.

He ordinarily lives in denial and thinks he can beat depression all by himself. Although no one else may walk the path for him, the choice and decision to start walking must be his. The Heartache of Loving a Commitment Phobic

As a psychologist, I get referrals to help people with all kinds of phobias. I have, however, never, in all my years of practice, ever received a referral for anyone suffering a ‘commitment phobia’ yet this problem seems to have reached epidemic proportions and is causing untold heartache for so many people.

Sharon and John have been together for six years. Sharon wants to get married, John doesn’t. Every time Sharon brings up the issue John accuses Sharon of nagging. He refuses to talk about the issue, except to rationalize his stance and to tell Sharon that she is being too ‘needy’ and demanding.

Sharon feels confused and frustrated by the mixed messages she gets from John. On the one hand, John is always telling Sharon how much he loves her. He assures her that they will always be together and he tells her how utterly devastated he would be if they ever split up. On the other hand, John refuses to take their relationship one step further. Likewise, John seems to prioritise his time at work and his time at social activities over his time with Sharon. She seems to constantly come in at third on John’s priorities and if she didn’t arrange her timetable to fit in with John’s timetable, they probably wouldn’t spend much time together at all.

Have you got friends in this predicament? Have you been there yourself or are you possibly in a relationship at this moment with a ‘commitment phobic’? If you are, you know the heartache it brings. The relationship is everything you ever wanted or dreamed of. You can’t imagine life without this person. Your partner is loving and emotionally open with you but just when the two of you feel the closest to each other – or when you begin to talk about living together, or getting married – your partner finds a way to create distance between the two of you and you feel the pain and heartache all over again.

Commitment Phobia: a Modern Day Hazard

You read about ‘commitment phobia’ in the agony aunt columns of newspapers and magazines all the time. Wherever you go, you are bound to hear at least one conversation about someone who is afraid of commitment. You probably have at least one friend who laments about being in a relationship with a ‘commitment phobic’ and who tells you that they have tried everything to try to change their partner’s mind and oh, what should they do?

We seem to be living in a time where so many people fall in love, only to find themselves frustrated, angry and heartbroken as they realize they are in a relationship with a ‘commitment phobic’.

Commitment Phobia is not a Gender Issue

The popular stereotype that you are fed to believe, is that men have a corner in the ‘commitment phobia’ market. It’s all part of the idea that men and women are from different planets and so suffer different afflictions – women want commitment and men don’t. That is certainly not my experience. In my clinical practice, in couples I coach, in my conversations with friends and people I know it is clear that women also suffer from ‘commitment phobia’. And men are equally devastated when they end up with a partner who won’t commit.

One of the men I got to know, in the gym I used to belong to, came up to me one day asking if we could speak when I was finished with my workout. We had chatted a few times before and he knew that I worked as a psychologist and coach and wanted to pick my brain about something he was struggling with.

We met up for a coffee after our workout and he proceeded to tell me about this absolutely amazing women he had met about four months earlier (how can that be a problem I thought?). He described this fantastic relationship they had, how they ‘connected’ and how he believed he had finally found his ‘soulmate’. The only problem was that as soon as he showed any signs of taking the relationship further, she seemed to distance herself (now I got it!). Gregg, out of his fear of losing this woman was getting more desperate to figure out how to change her mind. He shared with me all the things he had tried to do and say to convince her to take the relationship further. He felt he was losing control and said that he felt like he was going crazy – what should he do?

The Mixed Messages: Come closer, go away

What distinguishes a ‘commitment phobic’ is their extreme craving for love and intimacy and their extreme fear of it. While most people struggle at times between wanting to be close and their fear of closeness, the ‘commitment phobic’ has an intense, extreme desire for closeness and their intense, extreme fear of it. They constantly give out mixed messages: “Come closer . . . go away.”

The two messages you get from a ‘commitment phobic’ are “I really want and need all this closeness, but don’t tie me down. I love you deeply but I need to be close with other people too. I want and need you to love me, but let go of me. I desperately want and need to be with you, and I desperately want and need my space. They get on the ‘push-pull’ dance floor and you end up feeling confused, angry, frustrated and you wonder if you are going crazy.

Watch Out – Don’t Get Into One To Begin With!

If you know you want to be in a committed relationship, you are in for a disaster if you end up in a relationship with a commitment phobic. In my forthcoming book, you will understand the devastating emotional impact of being in a relationship with someone who does the ‘push-pull’ dance with you.

If you want to be in a committed relationship the best advice is not to get into a relationship with a ‘commitment phobic’ to begin with. Prevention is always better than cure! There are two simple but important steps you must take to avoid getting into the painful situation of being with a commitment phobic.

The first step is to get really, very clear about what kind of person you want to be with and to get absolute clarity about the kind of relationship you want and be sure you know what your priorities are.

The second step is to know and be able to identify the signs of a commitment phobic from the start – before you fall into the painful situation of realising, too late, that you are with one.

You will learn how to identify the distancing clues of a ‘commitment phobic’ and how to avoid one and I will also share with you the difference between real intimacy and pseudo-intimacy.

It’s Too Late… What Do I Do Now?

Love is blind. When we first meet that special someone we tend to deny and not see what we don’t want to see, or we hope that those undesirable traits, we do see, will somehow, magically disappear over time. And it’s easy to fall for a ‘commitment phobic. They tend to be open, loving and comfortable with self-disclosure. They seem to be good at intimacy. They crave deep connection, they want to love and be loved.

What do you do however, when you realize – too late – that you are together with someone who is a ‘commitment phobic’? Let me share with you what you absolutely must never do:

Never, ever try to change the ‘commitment phobic’! It just won’t work.

Once you read my forthcoming book, you will understand the top three strategies the ‘commitment phobic’ uses when you try to convince or change them. You will also understand that in your effort to change them, you end up pushing them further into their ‘phobia.’

Do you want to keep putting your plans and dreams on hold in order to accommodate your partner’s phobia of commitment? Do you want to have to keep avoiding bringing up the subject, for fear that your partner will leave you? Do you want to be in a relationship that leaves you feeling angry, frustrated and powerless?

At the end of the day, you only have two choices: to stay or to go. Either choice will be painful. It’s a question, however, of short term pain versus long term pain.

The decision is yours – only you can make it.

Suffering From Alternating Bouts of Anxiety and Depression?

Most people who suffer from anxiety will also suffer from alternating bouts of anxiety and depression. This may also lead to feelings of worthlessness or self-pity Depression usually occurs because feelings of anxiety will wear us down and wreck our emotions. We also seem to think that we have nothing to look forward to and that there is no way out. I once went through the terrible cycle of alternating bouts of anxiety and depression, I thought it would never end and felt as if there was no way out.

Luckily I came to understand that, if I was ever to recover from this seemingly endless cycle of alternating bouts of anxiety and depression, if I felt depressed than I felt depressed. I had to realize that I could not have these feelings of self pity if I were ever to recover. The best way I have found to relieve the depression part of the cycle is to just keep telling yourself that the way you feel is only temporary and it will go away soon. Try some new things into your day and don’t let your feelings dominate you entire day. I began to learn to ski and started swimming again at the community pool to help me get out of my moodiness. This proved to be extremely beneficial and helped me to focus on something else besides my self-pity. Going outside, being a part of nature, having a natural diet, can all help relieve the effects of feeling down in the dumps. Start getting active; go outside for a walk, a swim, a jog, any daily exercise is better than sitting home feeling sorry for yourself. Exercise has been proven to cause the body to release mood lifting endorphins and will also burn off all the stress that can build up during the day. What better way to stop the alternating bouts of anxiety and depression.

The way you think is probably the most important weapon in your arsenal to stop the alternating bouts of anxiety and depression. Most people think negatively and this is understandable when they feel as they do, but it is counterproductive. If you develop the habit of negative thinking it will only make you feel worse and make it very difficult to recover. Beware of all the negative thinking, don’t say “I just want to disappear”, say instead, “I feel lousy now, but I will make the changes and come through this”. Instead of saying, “I have no future and I hate myself” say instead, “life is what I make it, and I will do what I need to and get through this”. There are lots of things that you can say to yourself; most important is to see the good things instead of the bad. Do not wallow in self-pity, in time you will start to slowly come around and become stronger and more self-reliant.

It was hard but I came through the seemingly unending cycle of alternating bouts of anxiety and depression and so can you. I think that I came through it as a better person than I was, I seem to be more self confident and positive and tend to see more good that negative in my life. You must remember; you are not alone, tens of millions of North Americans suffer from alternating bouts of anxiety and depression. They have found and so can you. If you have learned anything today, let it be that self-pity is probably the most useless and damaging thing you can do to yourself if you suffer from alternating bouts of anxiety and depression.

Christian Meditation – God’s Gift For Healthy Sleep

Sleep. Safe, peaceful, nourishing. Restoring, healing mind and body.

Insomnia. Restless mind, restless body, burning eyes and longing-for peace, for comfort, for rest.

The Psalmist certainly knew what it was like to have trouble with sleep. His words hit home, because we all know how it feels.

I am weary with my sighing. Every night I make my bed swim…my eye has become wasted with grief. Ps 6:7-8 In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness; my soul refused to be comforted…You have held my eyelids open… Ps 77:2;4

Sleeplessness hurts our body as well as our mind, causing problems from diabetes to heart disease, creating accidents and poor work performance, and leaving us snappy, irritable and moody.

We all want restful sleep, a healthy body and joyful energy. The question for many is-HOW? Most of us experience insomnia occasionally, but for many, lack of sleep has become a painful way of life.

You’ve probably read the tips: Exercise more, drink less alcohol, use white noise, take a hot bath, sleep in a cool room, drink warm milk (OK, I know that really does help, but I’d rather just stay up!)

All these things are certainly true. And if you are not already doing them-why not?

You won’t sleep well if you don’t exercise regularly-you can count on that. Alcohol will make you sleepy, but it will also shatter your sleep structure, causing you to wake again and again, between bouts of superficial, poor quality sleep. Warm baths, the hum of a fan in a cool dark room…all are good ideas, important for good quality sleep.

But what if you’ve done all these, and still have problems sleeping?

David knew what brought him healthy sleep, and he spends much of his time in joy and rejoicing. What’s different for David when he sleeps?

Thou hast put gladness in my heart…in peace I will both lie down and sleep, for Thou alone, O Lord, dost make me to dwell in safety. Ps 5:7-8 I lay down and slept, I awoke, for the Lord sustains me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me. Ps 4:5-6

Sleep comes when we know we’re safe and secure. And that assurance comes with trust in the Lord. With the comfort of knowing you’re safely held in His hands.

You will have worries-and while it’s true that most of the things you worry about won’t ever happen, you know some may! Your worries grow from real concerns, and reflect the love you have for others, the hopes you have for the future. You may be struggling with heartbreak and loss, and very real problems to face in the morning.

But your worry won’t help, no matter how real the concern. And in your heart you know that…and so the fears and worries begin again.

At times it really seems ten thousands have set themselves against us! You want to give your fears and worries, your ‘head chatter’, to Him, but how? How can you have the peace and restful sleep that comes from trusting in Him, knowing you are safely held no matter what?

Meditate in your heart upon your bed and be still. Ps 4:4 I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart… Ps 77:6

In meditation, God speaks to our hearts, to our minds and our bodies. He gives us peace at the deepest level…and we can relax, and sleep in the safety of His peace. In meditation, He fills our hearts with the warmth of His love. He washes our bodies with soothing biochemical cascades, giving us everything we need to sleep deeply and richly.

And the more we meditate, the better we sleep!

A bunion is a common foot deformity that many Americans have to deal with during their lifetime. Currently, podiatrists are the leading health care professionals for caring for this deformity. 5) Shoes leading to Bunions – It has been shown that narrow shoes, cowboy boats or high heel shoes can lead to bunions. This may explain why bunions are more common in women and also why they are more common in western countries where high heel shoes are more commonly worn.

6) Diagnosing a Bunion – If you think that you have a bunion and present with the symptoms above that indicate a bunion then go to a local podiatrist to have a bunion diagnosed for sure. A podiatrist will have a good idea if you have a bunion just by sight but they will also x-ray the area to confirm the presence of a bunion.

7) Bunion Surgery – If a bunion is so painful or so enlarged that it interferes with your quality of life then a treatment option is to get a bunionectomy. A bunionectomy is a surgical procedure commonly performed by a podiatrist that helps to straighten out the big toe. As with all problems, the sooner you catch it the easier it is to treat. Don’t simply assume that surgery is required for a bunion. Bunions in very early stages can be controlled with non-surgical means that may even prevent the need for surgery in the future! Mononucleosis and EPO – Is There a Connection?

With all this fuss about the use of EPO in cycling in recent years and how laboratorial inject able EPO was practically undetectable until very recently (2003), plus how the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) and other Anti-Doping labs worldwide are suspicious that athletes are freely using performance enhancing drugs namely EPO; some officials are starting to openly vent their frustrations with the shortcomings (underfunding) of the aforementioned agencies.

With recent reports of several athletes contracting mononucleosis, I became curious and I decided to make a search on the internet to see if there was a possibility of a connection between EPO and mononucleosis and I found this startling report (excerpt below).

“Pure Red Cell Aplasia

  • Respiratory infections, gastroenteritis, primary atypical pneumonia, infectious mononucleosis, mumps, and viral hepatitis may trigger pure red cell aplasia.
  • Importantly, note that EPO-related appears to be a rare complication when one considers that approximately 3 million patients are treated with EPO worldwide. Nevertheless, maintain awareness of the possibility of this complication. In 2002, Casadevall et al recommended that patients receiving EPO should be tested for neutralizing anti-EPO antibodies as soon as possible after the onset of an unexplained anemia.
  • Darbepoetin alfa (Aranesp) has recently been introduced and has a different carbohydrate structure than endogenous EPO. Patients receiving this agent should be monitored closely.
  • Obviously, the administration of EPO for athletic performance should be avoided. ”

With this information, I became concerned, because if there are any tennis players out there, champions, champions to be or not champions, before they even think about using EPO, they should be aware of the consequences.

Why risk your life for a medal, a cup or a few dollars more? Players and athletes, just say NO and stay away from EPO! Your health and your life is more important to all of us then if you win.
