Fear of Cockroaches – How to Overcome Phobia of Roaches Easily

The fear of cockroaches is a common phobia around the world. There are very few people around the world who have a healthy respect for these bugs. It isn’t a requirement to like these bugs to get by in life but if you are terrified of them, it may make some experiences in your life a little more difficult than others to get through. You definitely need to make sure that your phobia of the roach doesn’t limit your capacity to function whenever they are around. Believe it or not, they may crop up in unexpected places.

Fear is Nothing to be Ashamed Of

Many fears and phobias such as the fear of cockroaches become the butt end of jokes. It’s nothing to laugh about though when you’re the one experiencing the deep seated fear. If you are the one that is suffering through this particular fear you will be glad to know that help is available. All you need to do is seek it out. There are many great hypnotherapy treatments that address the specific fear that roaches bring out in so many people. You should never suffer your phobia in silence, especially when you can move beyond it and live life outside of this fear so easily.

Moving Past the Fear of Roaches

There is nothing particularly lovable about these creatures. You may be wondering why you need to move beyond the fear at all. You aren’t going to be walking around with them on your shoulders after all, at least not outside of your most horrible nightmares. So why bother to move beyond your fear of cockroaches? Because moving past this fear allows you to move beyond others. All of your fears collectively hold you back from enjoying the best that life has to offer you. When you move past each fear you will be able to experience a little more of life.

Using Hypnotherapy to Fight Fear

One of the best tools you have in your arsenal to overcome fear is your mind. When you harness the power of your mind to overcome the fear of cockroaches you are able to overcome the impact of the fear. NLP helps you move beyond the fear by separating the emotional response from the event and associating something else, perhaps humor with thoughts of cockroaches.

The idea of using hypnotherapy and neuro-linguistic programming therapy in combination with one another is that they complement each other nicely. You can not only dissociate from the bad feelings but good feelings can also be triggered to compensate for any uneasiness or anxiety that you may be feeling over the exercise. As you become more and more skilled at compartmentalizing your fear, whether you are afraid of roaches or whatever you will begin to grow less timid and better prepared to face your fears head on-not this this is required when attempting to overcome your fear of cockroaches. Move beyond your phobia of cockroaches today and get on with the business of living.

Five Quick Ways To Reduce Stress, Depression and Anxiety

No point in beating around the bush, let’s get straight to it. Here are my top five ways to reduce stress, depression and anxiety.

1. When at work it is important to remember to take regular breaks from your desk. Working intensely without one is sure to create a build up of stress and tension, which can lead to anxiety and depression if maintained over a long period of time. Take at least one 15 minute break during the morning and one mid- afternoon as well as a lunch break. Try and have a change of scenery and eat your lunch away from your workstation. Also, if you have a lot of issues going on in your life right now, make time and take yourself away for a day, or a weekend to give yourself some breathing space, you will really feel the benefit. If removing yourself from the situation seems totally out of the question allow yourself a few hours to distance yourself from your problems by doing something that you really enjoy. Creating some free time will help reduce your stress levels, but it also gives you some much needed space to gather your thoughts.

2. Regular exercise is a great way to alleviate moments of stress, depression and anxiety. Regular exercise releases chemicals called endorphins into your blood stream, giving you a natural boost of happiness. It will also offer you a distraction from brooding and dwelling on your problems – but only if you carry out the right kind of exercises. High energy exercise is fun, fast and requires total concentration. Avoid: Low energy exercise, like weight lifting, jogging or treadmills as they can be done almost automatically, leaving you freedom to ponder your situation, which is not good. Competitive sports such as squash, tennis, badminton and circuit training are all excellent examples of high energy exercises which will keep you totally focused and in the ‘here and now’. It is important that whilst doing exercise to remove yourself mentally from your situation, although you will be benefiting physically your levels of stress will increase and depression and anxiety will only get worse.

3. Give yourself a break and stop beating yourself up. Self-deprecation plays a large part in creating stress, depression and anxiety. Each time you behave negatively towards yourself, you chip away at your confidence and self-esteem. Under no circumstances is it right to tell yourself you are useless, worthless, stupid, hopeless, boring, ugly or even a loser. Don’t take things personally and convince yourself that others hate you and that they don’t like your company, so you would be better off alone. You would never think it okay to say these things to other people, so why think it is acceptable to say them to yourself? These words are very powerful and once said can never be taken back and long term they will hurt you. It’s okay that you are not perfect; you will make mistakes – lots of them, but from them you learn and grow, just like everyone else. So cut yourself some slack and from this day forward, I want you to make a pact with yourself never to indulge self-deprecation ever again! IT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH.

4. Isolating yourself from other people is another big problem when suffering from stress, depression and anxiety. That being said, it’s OK to spend time on your own, there will be occasions when you just want your own space. But it is very easy to mull over your problems and situation too many times, punishing yourself for hours on end with no positive outcome. Instead use this time in a much more positive manner. Preoccupy your mind by doing a jigsaw puzzle, a crossword in your daily newspaper, read a book or carry out a hobby like painting, playing a musical instrument or whatever it is you enjoy doing. Using your time in a more positive way will help you to grow; it is an alternative to causing yourself additional pain.

5. Television, radio and newspapers are packed full of negativity that will contribute to lowering your mood. Stories constantly reflecting the negative side of life: crime, corruption, war, scandal and natural disasters will give you a much distorted outlook on reality. Not forgetting the countless images that have been manipulated by advertisers to get you to subscribe to their products. Do yourself a favour and remove yourself from this daily negative drip feed of unrealistic expectations on your reality. Avoid all form of media for just one week, see how you feel, you never know you might even find, like I have, that they have no place in your life anymore. Trust me, you won’t miss them.

Have fun, keep smiling and be happy!

Stress and Malaria – What is the Connection? Secrets You Never Knew Now Revealed!

“The Best of Healers is Good Cheer” — Pindar

“The Sound of a Kiss is not so Loud as that of a Cannon, but its Echo Lasts a Great Deal Longer” — Dr. Oliver Wendell Holmes

STRESS AND MALARIA — WHAT IS THE CONNECTION? Secrets You Never Knew Now Revealed!

It is no longer news that the entire world is going through some very disturbing and difficult situations. From the USA to Asia, from Europe to Africa and other parts of the globe, the story is the same.

These situations create one condition that is commonly experienced by all those affected by these turmoils; either in a minor or huge way. Stress in the name given to describe this condition.

And it is the health of people who are stressed up that usually suffer. This condition is worsened at those times of the year when people begin to reflect on their unfulfilled dreams, broken promises, financial losses botched business plans, political and corporate betrayals, misplaced trust in “friends”, deceits, blackmails, disappointed love affairs and sour romantic adventures; not to talk of the domestic upheavals in the home front.

The Secret Information

Singly or cumulatively, these situations make a lot of people edgy, irrational and irritable. And the result? The biochemical balance of the body fluids is disrupted leading to several illnesses and or a vulnerability to diseases.

And here is the SECRET that is worth remembering, not just this month, but for all times.

One bout of stress, be it a fit of anger, fear (induced externally or generated from within), worry, disappointed love or any negative emotion-backed demands placed on your body, alters the biochemical balance of your body fluids and the harmonious working of the organs.

The effect of this one bout of stress lingers on for at least fourteen days. Yes! You read it right — two weeks!

Therefore during this period, a person under this condition becomes vulnerable to diseases. Either, a latent condition is brought into an active, acute and sometimes life-threatening stage; or the person easily contracts infectious diseases that may be prevalent where he or she is. And the only way to avoid unpleasant consequences arising from this is to know how to mitigate, reverse or antidote the negative effects which are bound to show very quickly or be a little delayed depending on the constitutional make-up of the person involved.

MALARIA — The Stress Connection

And this is where Stress and Malaria become connected. It may sound unthinkable or even ridiculous but long-forgotten records of older Natural and Holistic Healthcare Practitioners that date to over two hundred years ago; and my own practical experiences have shown over a twenty-year period that stress produces a peculiar type of malaria which I have referred to in my book as “False Malaria”.

All the symptoms of malaria are present, the laboratory tests confirm that there are malaria parasites in the blood but surprisingly, no anti-malaria drug is able to cure these patients. Not even the best and latest “specials”.

Fever Is Just a Symptom Common to Many Diseases

It is at this point that a lot of mistakes are made by people who resort to self medication or the attending healthcare professional who bases his or her treatment regime on only what can be seen or touched — the laboratory test results. That a person has fever (elevation of the body temperature above the normal — oral: 37ºC and rectal: 37.2ºC) does not mean he or she has the “True Malaria” that requires anti-malaria drugs.

Most diseases especially childhood diseases start with a fever and must therefore be properly investigated to determine what exactly is wrong; instead of rushing to give anti-malaria drugs. The attitude to begin the treatment of all cases that started as a fever with anti-malaria drugs, have led to wrongful treatment for measles, polio, pneumonia and a host of other health complaints. Thus complicating a normally simple case and in some instances leading to fatal results.

Therefore to treat every suspected case of malaria with anti-malaria drugs based on the laboratory tests cannot guarantee the best results. That will be unpardonable ignorance on the true nature of the disease. But if you are sure it a case of “True Malaria” and you apply the right medicines, improvement commences in a few moments and should be under control within 24 hours.

Be Wise, Be Smart, Be Safe, Be Free, Be Healthy

It is therefore very pertinent that you know the truth about malaria and how to handle the situation that you come across intelligently. This is not an advocacy for self-medication or treatment but a knowledge-based information resource to avoid being a victim of wrongful treatments for the disease. As I have always counseled, it is important that you consult with the right Healthcare Professional for your treatment requirements. You can learn a lot more about the subject by reading The Real Causes And Cure Of MALARIA (Second Edition) a.k.a. The Malaria Eradication Bible.

Learn From The experiences of Others — Don’t Be a Victim

Let us now briefly look at a typical chronic malaria situation that was stress-related (a.k.a. “false malaria”) but suppressed severally until it came to my attention.

Mr. Ezee X (not his real name) is a very busy middle-aged business executive in a very competitive product brand company in one of our cities. Meeting deadlines, tight schedules, frequent meetings and ensuring higher profit margins for his company are the hallmarks of his job. It is common among sedentary but mentally-tasked office workers, especially in the city and busy urban towns to claim that they don’t know why they have frequent malaria attacks. So it was with Mr. Ezee X.

After all, he had the “best” of medical attention from high-brow hospitals or clinics at the expense of his employers. And he lived and worked in an air-conditioned home and offices that are routinely fumigated to kill mosquitoes, drives in air-conditioned cars, eat the most “nourishing” foods and drink the finest wines and beers on offer. Plus all the other perks of what he considers to be “a good life” tucked in as extras. So what could be wrong?

Ignorance Can Be A Fatal Disease

On face value, he actually lived a good life and one his peers envied. But despite his naturally-endowed vibrant physique and boundless energies, which made him a workaholic, something was missing. And this could easily have cost him his life. What?

He knew very little about his body and how to take care of it. He depended only on what he was told by his doctors, friends, relations and colleagues, especially about his frequent malaria attacks. He ignored even the most obvious and basic cause of his problem which stared at him clearly on a daily basis. — Job Stress.

Despite the frequency and recurrent attacks, he just could not understand or deliberately decided to ignore the message his body was sending to him. That the exciting cause was “in him” and not “outside of him”. In consequence, he was slowly being turned into an “anti-malaria drug addict”.

A Stitch In Time Always Saves “The Nine”

But once, he was shown his mistakes, and came to a realization of the near fatal errors he was making, and corrections made, he was now able to work more effectively, efficiently and wisely without endangering himself or drugging himself silly everyday. The amazing result? Improvement set in within one month of administering the right treatment for him; which was customized to meet the exigencies of his case. He was stable in three months and did not have to depend on drugs to keep him active and well.

Six months later, after these corrections, he no longer needed his usually very expensive monthly “anti-malaria residence permit in the clinic”; plus he earned a promotion to boot, for a job well done. Did I hear you say he is happy? It is more than that. Today, Mr. Ezee X is malaria-free, wiser and really living the Good Life. Thanks to Natural and Holistic Healthcare.

Procedural Errors

Let us take a peep at what really happens when a frequent malaria case patient that has “False Malaria” is taken to the clinic. He or she is examined and the various tests carried out to determine what is wrong with him or her. Then comes the result which usually reads “malaria parasite plus plus”. So the attending physician goes to work; prescribing the “best” anti-malaria drugs in the market.

It is not uncommon to add doses of antibiotics to the list of medications that the patient receives. The patient is then advised (sometimes warned) to take the medicines as prescribed religiously, without fail. And they do. From that point, there are two scenarios that will manifest.

Suppression Does Not Mean Cure

With the “anti” approach to this kind of case, either of these two scenarios is played out:

At the best, the case is suppressed and a temporary relief is given to the patient. Then he or she has to come to the clinic, again and again, after a few days or weeks for more invasive, suppressive and expensive temporary relief treatment. It is not uncommon to see people who are branded “monthly malaria patients”. So, the patient gets a temporary relieve of his or her complaints, the symptoms “disappear” or so it seems and gladly pays the hefty medical bill presented to him or her.

At the worst, the case becomes complicated and more difficult to treat. Then the patient will become subjected to “specialist clinical investigation” to unravel the “cause” of the “unusual ailment”. By which time a lot of damage would have been done; not by the original disease itself, but by the wrongful suppressive treatments applied. Many a times, the “bubble gets burst” here for the unfortunate victims.

The Missing Link

In Mr. Ezee X.’s case, no effort was really made to investigate his complaints properly before treatment was commenced. Hence the case was recurrent because the illness was actually being palliated and or suppressed by wrongful treatments. The laboratory tests results did not indicate that he had “Job Stress” or other emotional or mental upheavals that could be the exciting cause of his problem. No laboratory test has the ability to do so.

And neither was he questioned on these issues. Most attending physicians have no time for lengthy patient interviews or what they consider to be “personal trivia”. It is not their concern.

One of the most worrisome symptoms he had was insomnia. The medical term for sleeplessness. This is common among the busy business executives who by nature live a very stressful schedule type of life. You may say it is a kind of professional hazard. He was therefore used to taking massive doses of tranquilizers to send him to sleep. But once the exciting cause of his problem was identified, these were phased out while instituting the most appropriate remedial measures and therapy for him.

A single dose of a well-known Natural Remedy taken at bedtime, for three consecutive nights restored his biorhythm clock and sleep pattern. Now he sleeps like a baby without the use of tranquilizers or other psychotropic drugs or alcohol.

Anti-malaria Drugs Cannot Cure “False Malaria” Cases

If a dormant or passive malaria constitution is aroused into an acute active phase by a stress-related stimulus, no amount of the best or most powerful anti-malaria drug treatment will cure the disease or bring a permanent resolution of the problem. The key — the missing link — therefore is to find the exciting cause or causes; and then apply Natural and Holistic Healthcare remedies that address the true nature of the complaint and are tuned to the peculiar constitution of the person.

There can be no mass treatment with one drug for everybody in this situation. Another common error or mistake in conventional approaches. Every case must be individualized and treatment tailored to meet the person’s precise condition or circumstance.

Know Thyself

It is for these reasons, you will do well to know who you really are and how your body responds to various stimuli, environment, disease, food and drinks and a host of other circumstances or conditions that may be outside your immediate control. Especially where mental and emotional interactions are involved. These are the precursors of stress and its effects.

Tip: It is not so much what happens around us that is really important in determining how we or our bodies react to it. It is our attitude towards it; and which has a bearing on our beliefs, orientation, knowledge and understanding of the matter. An enlightened consciousness is a direct reflection of being properly informed and educated on a wide range of issues. This helps to assuage, minimize or avoid stress or stress-related effects of our everyday lives.

A HELPING HAND – NATURAL REMEDIES TO SOOTHE STRESS

To conclude this discourse, here are some Natural and Holistic Healthcare Remedies that are useful for stress and insomnia. I will however limit my recommendations to items I know you can easily find or have access to. These are of a general nature and may not apply to some individual situations. You are therefore counselled to always consult a qualified healthcare provider or professional who understands these issues, if you are not conversant with these approaches or healing methods.

When used, these will help you maintain harmony, balance and equilibrium in your cells and the fluids surrounding them. Your body is therefore kept healthy, strong, active and naturally immune to stress-induced diseases, especially “false malaria”.

Gandhi’s Remedy

The world-renowned Mahatma Gandhi of India, the cool and calm nationalist and the senior advocate of peaceful civil revolution and non-violence, was noted to always drink a tea made from the herb “serpentwood”. The holy men and sages of India who desired the calm and tranquility necessary for meditation were also noted to regularly chew the roots of this herb.

If you work in very challenging situations, requiring mental, emotional, physical and or intellectual brainstorming; and therefore have a tendency or potential to always combat STRESS, you have Mother Nature by your side to assist you to remain cool, calm and collected to achieve optimum positive results; with the use of this herb. There will be no need for psychotropic drugs or alcohol.

Serpentwood has been in use in India for over 4000 (four thousand) years and is known as the “soother of the mind”. It is available from Health Food Stores or Indian/Oriental Herbs shops. Read the directions on the pack or bottle for usage instructions.

Gypsies’ Juice

Please don’t panic! Don’t mind the name. It just happened that while no one paid attention, the Gypsies found something very good in Natural and Holistic medicine and decided to popularize it. That is how it earned the name. So what is it?

This Natural Remedy is composed of what you know already individually, but perhaps don’t know the value of the combined product. Gypsies’ Juice is made from oranges, lemons, natural honey and hot water. It is that simple but powerful. It is used to treat insomnia (sleeplessness) and to relieve tension of mind and body or what you call stress.

To prepare: Cut two to three fresh oranges and squeeze out the juice with the fleshy pulp into a big enough cup. Similarly cut and squeeze out the juice and pulp of one big-sized lemon (or two if small). Add two to three table spoons of pure natural honey or as you prefer. Fill up the cup with previously boiled hot water. Prepare it fresh and drink it as hot as you can just before bedtime. It will take only a few minutes after you have relaxed; and you will doze off and soon have a nice, refreshing and invigorating sleep. You will wake up in the morning feeling much more relaxed and energetic. This is much safer, healthier and by far cheaper than your tranquilizers.

Lettuce Tea

In the United Kingdom, the English and Irish peasants have a remedy for insomnia. Fresh lettuce leaves are chopped and a tea made out of them. When taken before bedtime, sleep is assured. The observation that indigestion is a common cause of insomnia, spurred The Irish to also add a sprig of mint leaves to the lettuce tea. This therefore facilitates digestion as well as improve the taste.

Herbal Bath Therapy

For the ancient Romans and Greeks, taking a herbal bath was the best method to relieve anxiety, tension and stress. Today, the modern way of life has robbed most humans of the ability to relax naturally using these time-tested techniques and resources at our disposal. But now you can re-discover these secrets by applying these recommendations.

If you had had a grueling or stressful day at work, either at home or in the office, a hot herbal bath can do wonders for your body and your mind. Before you contemplate taking drugs that may be loaded with harmful chemicals, why not try the safer and healthier alternative, for your own sake if nothing else?

Herbs used for herbal baths now come in sachets and are available in Health Food Stores, good Supermarkets and some Natural Healthcare Pharmacies. The best herbs to look for are Chamomile, Sweet Flag and Valerian.

Many people have devised creative ways to prepare and use herbal baths. For a simple but effective method, just hang the herbal sachets from the water faucet in the bath after filling with hot water. Allow the herbal essences to be properly dispersed and mixed with the water. This you can know from the change in colour of the water. Then immerse your body in the hot herbal water and enjoy the soothing feeling this brings. Individual discretion is counseled as to use and length of time required to take the bath.

The Kiss Therapy

German scientific researchers have indicated that good feelings towards our partners, neighbours and family members go a long way to help people deal with stress. It is all about our attitude towards each other.

One of the ways to express these loving feelings we have for the people who are important to us or live with us is through the gesture of a kiss or hug; either before leaving home or first thing on return from a journey or work. The research concluded that: “Kissing can help people deal with stress, giving them a more positive attitude” and “A positive attitude leads to better work performance, greater earning power and a longer healthier life”.

Mmmhm! Isn’t that a wonderful revelation? So now you know!

And if you find someone without a smile, give him or her, one of yours!

Thanks! for making the world a better, healthier and safer place to live in . . . It always begins with YOU.

That wraps it up for this month.

NOW IT IS TIME FOR YOU TO TAKE ACTION!

Now is your turn to put into practice what you have learnt. You are now well on your way to eradicate malaria from your life and our World. You also now know some of the ways to avoid or overcome stress and insomnia in a safer, healthier and natural way. Until next month, when a new powerful Malaria Eradication Secret will be revealed,

This is to Your Perfect Health and Be Malaria-Free For Life!

With Love and Affection.

White Onychomycosis Distal Onychomycosis – Different Types of Toenail Fungus

Onychomycosis or toenail fungus is the most common known nail disorder. It is caused by a type of fungus called dermatophytes which are parasites that feeds on keratin, protein of which nails are made of. Dermatophytes are anaerobic organisms meaning they can survive without oxygen. This is the same type of fungus that cause other infections such as ring worm and jock itch.

Onychomycosis is characterized by discoloration and thickening of the nails as a result of overproduction of keratin meant to replace the ones eaten by the parasites. Onychomycosis infection starts on the nail bed then spreads and grows to cover the whole nail. Basically, there are five basic types of toenail fungus, they are:

White Superficial Onychomycosis or White Superficial Onychomycosis – This type of toenail fungus is called as such because it is characterizes by white and powdery specs on the surface of the nails. Apart from the discoloration, the afflicted nails also become flaky and brittle. This type of toenail infection is the most curable of all types of toenail fungus.

Distal Subungual Onychomycosis – This type of nail fungus is characterized by an infection occurs in between the tip of the nail and the skin and along the side of the nail. People with this type of toenail fungus has nails that is color yellow.

Proximal Subungual Onychomycosis – This is the rarest type of toenail fungus. It is characterized by white or yellow spots on the the cuticle then spreads throughout the other parts of the nail. This type of toenail fungus is also highly curable.

People have this impression that onychomycosis is merely a cosmetic problem. The truth is people suffering from toenail fungus experiences severe pain as a result of the toenails growing inward. The disease affects patients not only physically but also socially because the discomfort brought about by the disease makes it difficult to perform even simple everyday tasks such as walking and running. Not to mention of course that onychomycosis sufferers are usually embarrassed of their disease and are often afraid that they might spread it to other people.

When it comes to gender, males are more prone to acquiring onychomycosis than females. People who are aged 60 and above are more also more susceptible to getting toenail fungus than much younger individuals. But this is probably because they generally have a weaker immune system. Certain disease also makes one and easy prey for dermatophytes. These include diabetes, psoriasis and leukemia.

If you are suspect that you have onychomycosis, whether it is white onychomycosis or other types, the first thing that you should do is go to doctor to properly diagnose your condition.

Enhancing Sports Performance and Treating Injuries with Essential Oils

Essential oils have long been used by athletic trainers and sports massage therapists to support the health and performance of their athletes. Aromatherapy massage is used both pre-and post workout and competition, to improve performance, speed recovery, and lessen chance of injury. Many ointments and lotions for sore muscles include essential oils and essential oil extracts (e.g. ‘Tiger Balm’, ‘Ben Gay’, etc). Modern medical aromatherapy literature describes the use of oils to even speed the healing of both chronic and acute injuries commonly seen in sport. Here is an overview of the many ways to use essential oils to keep any athlete interested in natural health and fitness performing their best.

Essential oils can promote the health and fitness of athletes in many ways, the most common being the pre- and post- exercise (or competition) massage. Long used by top athletes around the world, sports massage with essential oils plays an important part in warming up the muscles before exertion and removing lactic acid (thereby speeding recovery) after a hard effort. Massage formulas often these essential oils – Eucalyptus, for invigoration, circulation and opening airways; Lavender, with anti-inflammatory effects, relieves pain, relaxes spasms, and brings mental calm without sedation; Rosemary relieves pain, stimulates the mind and body, and has a warming effect on the muscles; Juniper Berry, used in the post-exercise formula, detoxifies and helps eliminate lactic acid from muscles; and Sweet Marjoram which helps relieve cramping in over-exerted muscles.

Blending your own massage formulas for pre and post exercise massages is simple – just between 10 and 30 drops total essential oils to each ounce of carrier oil (Sweet Almond, Grapeseed and Hazelnut are good choices). Generally, the more essential oil in a blend, the more stimulating it will be; lower concentrations of essential oil will be more relaxing. For pre-exercise, to warm and loosen the muscles, open the airways and awaken the mind, try eight drops Rosemary, four drops lavender and four drops Eucalyptus essential oils to each ounce of carrier oil Peppermint can be used in place of the Lavender if you’re really looking to ‘get going’ – though if you’re prone to anxiety before strenuous efforts, stick with the Lavender. Use light, quick invigorating massage strokes. For post-exercise, a little deeper massage can be performed with longer strokes toward the heart – this will assist removal of lactic acid and other metabolic waste products. Try eight drops Lavender, four drops Juniper Berry and four drops Sweet Marjoram, or, when the muscles are really over-exerted, try eight drops Eucalyptus, eight drops Peppermint and eight drops Ginger essential oil.

Aromatherapy oils can be used during pre and post exercise baths and showers as well, using the same oils and blends mentioned above. Be sure to add any oils to the bathwater after the bath is drawn so they do not evaporate before you get in. Before showers, essential oils can be applied undiluted to the body; this is particularly advised post-exertion to support the elimination of metabolic wastes. One drop each of Rosemary, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Peppermint essential oils can be ideal for this purpose. After a shower or bath is an excellent time to apply a massage blend to the entire body – the pores are open and the skin is clean, enhancing absorption. Choose a stimulating or relaxing blend depending on your condition.

Essential oils’ medicinal value goes beyond just warm up and cool down rubs. In many sports, stronger healing properties are often needed due to cuts and scrapes, bruises, twists and sprains. Essential oils can powerful healers of skin, muscle and connective tissue. Many oils are known to have strong anti-inflammatory action, and contain certain molecules which signal the regeneration of tissue. And, of course, there’s the stress-relieving ‘aromatherapy’ aspect, which further enhances the healing process.

To treat bruises and strains, there is no match for the synergistic molecules making up Helichrysum essential oil. Helichrysum (also known as Everlasting oil), is touted by Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph.D.: “Used for bruises, sprains, and twisted ankles – usually accompanied by swelling and subsequent hemorrhages – this oil proves to be practically a wonder cure.” Keeping a small bottle on hand is wise, as with most treatments involving swelling, quick application provides the best results. In cases of bruises, twists strains or strains, apply a thin film of the oil directly to the affected area immediately, then apply frequently as a ten percent dilution in any carrier oil until healed (the oil will help with serious injuries, but is not a substitute for proper medical attention if needed). A blend of Helichrysum and Jojoba can also be used for chronic injuries such as tendonitis – simply massage a small amount into the affected area a few times a day.

Active athletes and fitness buffs will often incur minor cuts and abrasions. Essential oils are an excellent choice for caring for such wounds due to their antiseptic and soothing effects. A 50/50 blend of Tea Tree and Lavender is a wonderful, all-around skin healer. The Tea Tree prevents infection while the Lavender sooths the area. Apply directly to cuts and scrapes after the wound has been properly cleansed. If this is too strong a blend for the younger ones, simply apply a drop or two to the gauze portion of a band-aid and cover the wound for the same effect. The ratio of Lavender to Tea Tree can also be increased for an even more soothing result.

Other than the direct sports-related uses of essential oils, the overall health and fitness of any athlete should be supported for top performance. During periods of especially strenuous training or competition, athletes may be particularly susceptible to infectious illnesses – colds, flu and the like. Diffusing Eucalyptus, Thyme, Tea Tree and/or Lemon in your home can reduce the chance of illness, or the spread of colds. Niaouli essential oil, a relative of Eucalyptus, is also an excellent oil for supporting the immune system. The oil is recommended to be applied neat all over the body after showers for best absorption and effect (use 10-20 drops). A strong immune system goes a long way to keeping an athlete happy and in top form.

This is a brief overview of many common applications of aromatherapy for supporting the health, fitness and performance of any athlete. There are many variations of the essential oils suggested – if one oil is found offensive, too stimulating, etc., try another, as this is usually the body’s natural way saying the timing of a particular oil is not right, or the oil is not compatible with the individual’s chemistry at the moment. With a little research and experimentation, an effective and rewarding combination of essential oils can enhance nearly any athletes health, fitness and competition endeavors.

Oprah & Eckhart Tolle – A New Earth Walking In Love & Power Without The Pain Body, Lust, & Demons

While Oprah and Eckhart Tolle reviewed chapter 5 of the book A New Earth, the two discussed “the pain body” as Eckhart calls it.

Tolle: “But don’t underestimate the pain-body’s ability to draw out some, to make you unconscious again, to push some kind of button, and you will find yourself reacting again. Because pain-bodies are very cunning, very clever. And they know exactly what will make you unconscious and what will make you react.”

Oprah: “You speak of it like it’s a creature that’s like an alien force inside of us. Yeah”

Tolle: “Yes, that’s how I see it.”

Here both Eckhart and Oprah identify the demonic activity that seeks to tempt and torment us all, which ultimately causes torment and brings havoc into our lives.

Many times we humans mistake lust for love. Lust is possessive, claiming ownership and rights. Lust wants immediate gratification and is demanding. Since lust is impatient and controlling, the quickest way to cut the chains of its demonic work is to abide in love. “Love is patient, kind, not given to envy, neither is it concerned for itself” (see 1 Corinthians 13). Lust is self-centered and self-seeking, whereas love on the other hand is selfless and concerned with the well being of others. Therefore when you interact with a person who is not dwelling and motivated by love, their self-interest eventually comes to the forefront and shows itself. The more deeply and heavily attached they are to their own agenda, the easier it is for demon spirits to find room for play in their soul. And not only play, but space to operate and work through them causing havoc in relationships (professional and personal).

Abide in God’s love being connected, rooted, and grounded in Him; where you identity and security is found. As you dwell in love, demon spirits will not have play in or access to you. Upon discovering the freeing liberty of living a life of love, the former emotional attachments and tendency to swiftly react in circumstances will fade away in the light of God’s glory and goodness. Then the “pain-body” of demonic activity will be put to rest because you will have withdrawn from the drama and dismissed yourself from the demonic game and power grab.

“Be kindly affectionate one toward another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another” (Romans 12:10).

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen” (Romans 16:20).

Testosterone For Women – The Libido Link

The significance of hormones in relation to sexuality is widely acknowledged. Androgen refers to any hormone that has a masculinising effect on either sex. They are associated with sexual desire for both sexes. The dominant androgen – testosterone – in men is produced mostly by the testes and in small quantity by the adrenal glands, and in women, in much smaller quantities, by the ovaries and adrenal glands.

It is important to realise that about 95% of the testosterone circulating in a man’s blood system is bound (on a protein molecule) and therefore metabolically ineffective. The degree of impact of testosterone on an individual’s sexual drive is determined by the remaining amount of free testosterone, which is metabolically active and influences the libido. For males that is about 5%; and for females the free testosterone, which produces effects on bodily tissues, is only 1 to 3% of the total testosterone. A higher level of androgen is required for male sexual desire than for female desire, so normal is different for men and women.

In terms of sexual function, estrogen enhances sensitivity to sexual activity and creates a physical climate conducive for sexual behaviour. It helps the vaginal tissue remain elastic and contributes to lubrication. Despite all of the research that has been done on the hormone estrogen, its role in sexual desire remains unclear.

In women testosterone produced by the ovaries fluctuates during the menstrual cycle, the highest amount being produced, along with estrogen, at ovulation. Androgen insufficiency in women has also been found to be associated with hypopituitarism (deficiency of pituitary hormones), adrenal insufficiency, ovarian failure, and oophorectomy (the surgical removal of an ovary). However, with menopause, the ovaries naturally decrease their production of testosterone. It is not necessarily a specific consequence of natural menopause but can occur as a secondary factor to the age-related decline in the adrenal and ovarian androgen production.

Millions of women have over the decades used hormones to treat the symptoms of both natural and surgical menopause. Typically, hormone therapy consists of supplemental estrogen, sometimes combined with progesterone. In addition to helping protect menopausal women against heart disease and bone loss, hormone therapy has been effective in treating menopause symptoms such as flashes, mood swings, sleeplessness, and the range of conditions that can adversely affect a woman’s sex life, including vaginal shrinkage, dryness and loss of elasticity.

However, some women are unable to tolerate the side effects of estrogen therapy, which include headache, nausea, bloating, leg cramps, breast tenderness and engorgement, irregular vaginal bleeding and staining, and over-secretion of mucus (heavy vaginal discharge). Some of these are however due to progestin and lowering the dosage of either or both hormones may relieve these problems.

Despite the fact that estrogen therapy may reduce the somatic symptoms of menopause, it often does not provide adequate restoration of the woman’s sexual desire. Several testosterone products originally developed for men have found application with naturally and surgically menopausal women with low sexual desire. The testosterone formulations used with women include products that can be administered as a pill, a patch, or a cream that is applied topically to the vulva, wrists, or thighs.

Often, estrogen when used alone is some women, is enough to maintain normal female well-being, including sexual desire and activity, but testosterone often needs to be added to ensure robust, dependable sexual desire and response. Besides boosting sex drive, the hormone can help relieve hot flashes and other conditions related to menopause; and thus an effective option for women who cannot tolerate high levels of estrogen.

Several studies have also concluded that testosterone-estrogen therapy is far more effective than estrogen alone among postmenopausal women. Most women have reported more frequent intercourse, greater interest in sex and increased clitoral sensitivity on testosterone. Some women have also been noted to experience less depression and fatigue than those on estrogen alone.

However, because testosterone effects in women have not been widely researched and no testosterone therapy has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of female hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD), most physicians apparently prescribe the hormone “off-label”. It is mostly prescribed to patients who have tried estrogen-based hormone therapy without success (and in few cases, to premenopausal women who are found to have “extremely low” levels of testosterone).

Side effects of testosterone include secondary male sexual characteristics, aggressiveness, and deepened voice, growth of facial hair, enlargement of the clitoris, acne, weight gain, and liver damage. In addition, it has been shown to lower the rates of HDL, the “good” cholesterol, while increasing heart-harmful LDL cholesterol – the exact opposite of what estrogen does. In the very low dosages prescribed for women, however, these side effects are very unlikely to occur and can be controlled additionally by reducing the dosage further when necessary.

Other doctors have started offering a new alternative, DHEA. It is an androgenic hormone that is produced in the adrenal glands of both sexes but starts to decline before age 30. DHEA is closely related to testosterone and in fact, the body has the ability to convert DHEA into other hormones, including estrogen and testosterone.

The hormone plays an important role in sex drive. Taken as a supplement, it is also said to bolster the immune system and delay the physical signs of aging. But little is known about the long-term effects of taking DHEA. Because it is weaker than the testosterone used in Estratest (not approved by the FDA for any indication – nonetheless on the market – a situation that is said to exists because of “complicated legal reasons”), DHEA produces fewer side effects but appears to be equally effective in restoring libido.

What Are the Three Leading Causes of Sinusitis?

There are two main types of sinusitis but they both have different causes:

Acute Sinusitis. This is typically a temporary situation regarding the causes that are associated with acute sinusitis. The symptoms should not run for more than 30 days. There are 3 leading causes of acute sinusitis that can be uncomfortable and painful at times.

· Virus. This is usually the case when the cilia become paralyzed or in an intense viral case, the cilia is inactive and cannot push through the mucus on its own. This will cause the virus to lay dormant in the sinus area.

· Bacteria. When the sinus cavities become overwhelmed with mucus that gets stuck in other passageways, it becomes infected. As the mucus sits in one place it becomes stagnant and the body has a hard time getting rid of this problem without the use of an antibiotic. The body tries to get rid of garbage before it is introduced into the lungs; this is usually done by blowing our nose or clearing our throats. Excessive blowing can lead to a swollen lining inside the nose and then nothing will be able to pass through it.

· Fungus. This micro organism can be transferred on food or may be airborne. The origins of these spores come from foods or molds that are present in the air. Just like anything, too much of something is not a good thing. Ingesting enough can cause your immune system to weaken, leaving you unable to fight off the infection. Then your sinuses become enlarged and make you more prone to get sinusitis.

These only explain the three major causes of acute sinusitis; there are many more minute factors that can cause sinusitis: frequent blowing of the nose (pressure), scuba diving (if you already have a cold this will open up the sinuses more and possibly cause infection), foreign objects ( yes the joys of children putting things in their noses, and not just a finger), medications ( some medications have some strange side affects but also they may slow the production of mucus), and in very rare instances, a rotten tooth could cause a bad infection in the sinus cavity.

Chronic Sinusitis

Symptoms of chronic sinusitis are generally not painful, just very annoying. Conditions associated with chronic sinusitis tend to last longer than acute sinusitis and have a greater chance of recurring. If there are slight changes in the natural flow of mucus it will probably turn into a sinus infection. The symptoms of chronic sinusitis are caused from environmental hazards. The 3 major causes of chronic sinusitis are:

· Allergies. A big portion of allergies are caused by the environment and this can lead to chronic sinusitis. These can be reduced if you go to a specialist and get allergy shots. On the other hand, some are caused by food, feathers and even certain fabrics.

· Asthma. Some people are born with asthma and the others have asthma like symptoms that are related to their allergies. Medications are an option to relieve such conditions.

· Temperature and Humidity. Indoor and outdoor conditions play different roles in how bad your allergies are. The environment is always changing and so is the temperature and humidity. This can change how your allergies act and with the changes your sinuses can become irritated and swollen making your symptoms recur.

Narrowing sinuses, defective mucous membranes, dehydration, poor air quality, weak immune system, stress and, on rare occasions, polyps and tumors may be other smaller causes for some of your sinusitis problems. On rare occasion surgery may be your only option to relieve some of these more serious conditions.

Subserous Fibroids – Natural Treatment For Your Subserosal Fibroid

Subserous fibroids are those that grow on the outside of the uterus, and cause the uterus to appear larger than it is. They typically grow during menstruation, as this is when their blood supply to the uterus is greatest. The blood supplies the subserous fibroids with nutrients and oxygen, which causes them to accelerate their growth.

Subserous fibroids have the potential to grow very big, and can even expand to the size of a six month pregnancy. They can cause a feeling of bulkiness and constant discomfort. They can also cause pain in unrelated areas of the body, such as the lower back or the back of the legs, as they can stimulate sensory nerves attached to these areas of the body.

Symptoms of subserous fibroids include abdominal bloating, especially during menstruation, as well as looking pregnant due to the bulky fibroid. Because of their size and location, they can put pressure on other organs, including the colon, causing difficulty in moving the bowels, and the bladder, causing incontinence or difficulty in urinating. They can even damage the tubes that connect the bladder to the kidneys, and damage the kidneys.

Another disadvantage of very large fibroids is that they need a lot of blood to keep themselves alive. Sometimes the blood cannot reach the centre of the fibroids, and this causes parts of the fibroid to be starved of blood and oxygen and then tissue death, which can be extremely painful.

They can sometimes be mistaken for ovarian cysts, especially if they are attached to the outside of the uterus by a stalk. The only way doctors can tell the difference between a subserous fibroid and an ovarian cyst is by performing an MRI, as ultrasounds don’t give enough information. MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging and it is a new technology that allows a radiologist to produce detailed pictures of the inside of the body.

According to doctors, subserous fibroids are easier to remove surgically than most other types of fibroids, as they are on the outside of the uterus. The most common surgical option is a laparoscopic myomectomy. This is a form of keyhole surgery, where the surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen in order to surgically remove the fibroid.

A study was carried out at the Third Military Medical University in China, where doctors reviewed the effectiveness of myomectomies and Uterine Artery Embolization. Uterine Artery Embolization is when the blood supply to the fibroids is surgically blocked in order to shrink fibroids by depriving them of blood and nutrients.

The doctors treated 142 women with fibroids ranging from 2 cm to 12 cm with either myomectomy or Uterine Artery Embolization, and then followed up with each woman about 16 months later to see whether the fibroids came back. They found that the fibroids grew back in 5 of the women, which indicates that it is not completely foolproof.

Although surgery can provide you with fast results, there are risks. For example, laparascopic myomectomies can damage blood vessels or the intestines. They can also cause additional scar tissue and adhesions, which can affect your digestion and fertility. Uterine Artery Embolization causes tissue death, which can lead to serious infection in the uterus that can spread to other parts of the body. While the tissue is dying there will be a lot of pain, and the dead tissue will cause a very unpleasant vaginal odor.

Reflux Cure – Apples and Apple Cider Vinegar Are Effective Reflux Cures?

There are numerous acid reflux home remedies that promise results but what is the most effective reflux cure? Obviously, this is a difficult question to answer because many remedies work for one person and don’t for another but many natural health researchers continue to point to apples!

But before you go and buy a bag of apples, you should learn the basics behind apples, apple cider vinegar and antacids. Far too many reflux sufferers naively take antacid after antacid and cause more harm than good.

If you suffer from acid reflux once a month, take an antacid! If you suffer from acid reflux more than once a week, learn how to naturally cure your reflux problem with a reflux remedy that cures the problem and not the symptoms.

Cure the Problem and Not the Symptoms

Before you learn about apples and apple cider vinegar, it is important to know why antacids could ruin your health. Health education has always told us that everything should be done in moderation. And the same holds true with antacids.

Antacids work because they neutralize refluxed stomach acids (this is curing the symptom and not the problem). However, over time antacids could become harmful to your health if taken for an extended period of time. (Look at back label and notice that you should NOT take for more than 2 weeks or 14 days.) Most antacids contain excessive amounts of minerals such as sodium, aluminum, calcium and magnesium which can cause mineral imbalances in the body. These imbalances are so serious that the FDA put a warning on these antacids because of the links to cancer, hypertension and even Alzheimer ‘s disease. But there is a better option!

You can cure the problem with natural remedies. Researched natural remedies work because they work to cure the problem behind acid reflux, bile reflux, GERD and heartburn. If you suffer from any of the above, you most likely have a damaged lower esophageal sphincter and esophagus.

The sphincter is a muscle flap that sits atop the stomach which opens and closes to allow food in. An unhealthy sphincter can also allow stomach acid to be refluxed out. An esophagus is the tube that carries the food to the stomach. An unhealthy sphincter is common for reflux suffers.

And here is how you heal both your sphincter and esophagus and eventually cure your reflux problem. (Not the symptoms!)

Apples and Apple Cider Vinegar are Simple Reflux Cures

1. Apples are everywhere! You can find this delicious fruit everywhere from a grocery store to a gas station to even your backyard. And an apple is one of the simplest cures to treat acid reflux. Before your next reflux attack, try an apple instead of an antacid. Substitute an apple for an antacid.

For more information on this cure, read about why Bob Barton has been eating an apple a day since 70s. Visit our website today.

2. Did you know that many acid reflux cases are actually caused by too little acid in your stomach? This makes sense too. If there is too little acid in your stomach, the food and gas will be in your stomach longer without getting properly digested. And since apple cider vinegar is very acidic, it will aid in the digestion process and cure reflux before it starts.

Now What?

We recommend carrying a few slices of a red apple in a zip lock bag. We also recommend drinking a table spoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water with a squeeze of honey to hide taste. Both of these simple remedies could help you cure your reflux!

The Main Reasons Pubic Lice Treatments Fail

Pubic Lice is a frustrating problem, not only the itching and aggravation but also the continuing failed attempts to get rid of the problem. Pubic lice treatments do not always work, sometimes it’s the treatment itself and sometimes it’s the methods of application. So let’s take a look some of the main reasons that genital lice eradication fails and look at the ways to overcome these problems

Pubic Lice have developed a resistance to some products and insecticides.

Products that contain mainly the chemicals, Permathin, Pyrethrins, Malathion and Lindane are becoming less effective in killing pubic lice because certain colonies or strands of lice have built up a resistance to these insecticides. Lice that are immune or partially immune to these chemicals will no physical differences in appearance so it’s very hard to tell if a certain chemical treatment will work or not. If lice are still moving around after treatment, it is advisable to change treatments (perhaps a natural remedy) and re-apply immediately. Many manufacturers of these products are increasing the potency of the active ingredient to overcome this problem, however this can create problems and side effects for a user with sensitive skin conditions or eczema.

Pubic lice can survive light applications

A pubic lice treatment will only have a chance to work effectively if the product comes into full contact with the parasite. Lack of exposure to the product can be caused in two ways. Not applying enough product and/or not leaving the product in for long enough. To eliminate this as the cause for an unsuccessful treatment, be sure to saturate every hair from tip to root, and always leave the product in for at least the recommended time, longer if possible. Be sure to comb out tangled hair first as this will provide pockets of protection for the parasite or its eggs.

Pubic Lice eggs (Nits)

Female crabs lay eggs that are commonly known as nits. It is extremely difficult for any treatment to guaranty a 100% kill rate on all lice eggs in an infestation. Female lice lay 2-3 eggs per day (attached to the hair) which take about a week to hatch. These babies (nymphs) become reproductive adults in about 15 days. Therefore any eggs that survive the first treatment will hatch and continue the life cycle and the infestation. It is extremely important to re apply the product 7 days after the first treatment to kill the remaining lice before they reach the reproductive stage. It is also important to comb the area with a Nit comb repeatedly just after treatment to get rid of as many eggs as possible.

Pubic Lice Re-infection

Once you have eliminated the infestation, you really need to attack the source to make sure that they do not return. The problem is in tracing the likely contact points. Pubic lice are contracted primarily from sexual intercourse with an infected partner or from infected bed linen and/or clothing. Make sure that your sexual partner and/or partners are treated and do not resume sexual relations until follow up treatments are administered. Also make sure that all bed linen and clothes are (if possible) sprayed with a diluted version of your treatment and then washed or soaked in extremely hot water (125o F)

Pubic lice Treatment ease of use.

Finally, there are certain characteristics of the product itself that can limit its effectiveness. If a product smells really bad or is sticky, gooey and hard to manage, or stings and burns your skin on application, it is likely that the users experience will not lend towards a comprehensive treatment. Many people have sensitive skin, and it does not get more sensitive than in the groin area and with it an aversion to harsh chemical treatments. Intense burning and inflamed rashes can result with repeated doses. Use a treatment that is safe for your skin type. Suitability equals effectiveness.

So if you have a case of the ‘luvbugs’ be sure to treat the infestation with some attention to detail. You know how frustrating something is that just won’t go away!! Follow these simple tips and you should be free of pubic lice in no time.

Remember that traditional chemical treatments are not for everyone. If you have eczema, asthma, dry skin, flaky skin, or any kind of skin sensitivity, mild or otherwise, I strongly suggest you use a natural treatment made up of essential oils.

Neem oil and tee tree oil are the most common active ingredients. Neem oil can be just as effective as any chemical on the market (kills all body parasites in a few minutes) and is completely safe when used with a carrier agent like jojoba, or grape seed oil. Long Term Effects of Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia affects different organs. And the longer you have bulimia the more organs get affected and damaged.

The organs that suffer the most are: heart, kidney, brain, digestive system, bones, skin and endocrine glands.

The heart gets damaged from the constant electrolyte imbalances caused by continuous purging and becomes weaker the longer the bulimia continues. Some people even can die from this complication when a weak heart goes into a “heart block”. This is when the heart suddenly stops beating due to extremely low potassium or other mineral deficiency induced by vomiting and laxatives abuse.

Kidney damage is very common among long term bulimics. The kidneys are organs that normally correct mineral abnormalities in the body. But when a person’s mineral balance is constantly disturbed, like in case of bulimia, the kidneys are under enormous strain to correct it and eventually they get damaged.

The brain suffers also from the moment bulimia starts. People have distorted thought patterns like depression and anxiety. The longer bulimia goes on for the stronger the addiction to binging and purging becomes. The long time effects of brain damage from bulimia are: suicidal thoughts, self-cutting and other self-harm symptoms. Impulsive behavior can occur and people can become less responsible for their action.

The digestive system also gets affected badly. The stomach experience delays in empting its food content and people suffer from pains in the abdominal area, bloating, acid reflux, stomach ulcers and esophageal problems.

In long standing bulimia cases sufferers loose the feeling of being hungry or full. Sometimes their taste distorts which makes them eat strange combinations of food or experience cravings (for example craving to eat very salty or sour things).

The bones become weak due to the development of low bones density after many years of suffering from bulimia. People can and do complain about their bone’s aching plus they have lots of pain and the bones can break from even minimal strain or pressure.

Skin looses its youthful look even at a relatively young age. Dry skin, inflammation of the skin, abnormal irritation and ongoing pimples are common problems for bulimics.

Hair loss due to mineral and protein depletion is inevitable in long term bulimia.

The endocrine glands eventually stop working properly and produce fewer hormones than the body needs: this makes a person age quickly and loose muscle tone.

Menstruation becomes irregular or stops and because of this a woman is unable to conceive and have a baby.

To sum up, the long term effects of bulimia nervosa can be extremely dangerous. And treatment for this disorder becomes more complicated the longer it goes on.

The best way is to prevent these dangerous effects from happening is to treat the disease sooner rather than later.

The best thing is to start educating yourself and your family about what to do and what to change at home to help the sufferer. Home and family support are proven to be the best way of treating this condition. But it has to be the right help and the right support.

Food Hygiene – The Eight Principles of "From Farm to Fork"

Food hygiene can be compromised at eight different stages in its supply and preparation. These stages start on the farm and end on the fork.

At every stage great care must be taken to ensure that the end product will be safe to eat. Let’s define all eight stages.

The eight stages are:

FROM FARM TO FORK!

1) The farm- Animals, and crops must be handled and cared for humanely & professionally by trained professionals and with proper supervision by qualified Vets.

2) Transportation of raw materials- animals and crops must be transported in a way which complies with state legislation and ethical codes.

3) Processing plants.- this stage includes slaughter houses, packing stations and factories. All of these sites should be authorised by appropriate regulatory bodies, have a valid manufacturers license, issues to state and national specifications, and comply with GMP, ISO 9002 and HACCP’s standards. All authentic, safe products should have the name address and telephone number of the processor or manufacturer clearly printed on the packing.

GMP=Good manufacturing procedures

HACCP=Hazard analysis and critical control points

Iso=International standards organization

4) Food Distribution networks.- Distribution of food must be done according to National, state and city regulations. Likewise deliverymen must be clean and well presented. Transport containers must be clean inside and out and be designed specifically to transport the type of food in them, EG. Frozen, chilled.

5) Food Delivery and food storage- food should be delivered in good condition with undamaged packaging. It should be stored in suitable conditions for that type of food & in a way that prevents cross contamination with other food sources. This includes food storage in the home of the consumer.

6) Preparation of food before cooking.- Food should be prepared along clean guidelines. Meat should be thawed in refrigerated conditions and kept separate from vegetables, dairy products, eggs etc. by keeping the meat in a closed container during the defrosting process. Fresh vegetables should be cut on a separate clean cutting board and knives should be thoroughly washed before being used to cut other foodstuffs. In Professional kitchens there should be separate work stations for unclean vegetables, raw meat, dairy confectioneries and salads.

7) Cooking, roasting, baking.- Cooking the food will kill most bacteria but keep in mind that some bacteria and toxins survive high temperatures so it is most important remember to keep food hot until eaten or Alternatively chill in small containers and freeze as quickly as possible. Bacteria cease to be active at temperatures of less than 4 degrees centigrade.

8) Serving.- Serving food is often the stage when most people let down their guard. Food should be served at a temperature of above 70 degrees centigrade or at a temperature of 5 degrees centigrade or less for cold foods. Serving dishes, pates and cutlery should be spotlessly clean after being washed thoroughly at a temperature of above 70 degrees centigrade.

By checking all these stages as thoroughly as possible you can cut your risk of getting food poisoning considerably.

How Are Pressure Ulcers Treated And How To Prevent Skin Breakdown

An estimated 15% of acute care patients have pressure ulcers. In recent years, the incidence of pressure ulcers has increased by 63%, with a high prevalence being noted among patients in nursing homes, hospitalized patients, and patients with spinal cord injuries. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality estimates the cost of pressure ulcers at $9.1 to $11.6 billion a year in the United States. The high cost of wound care notwithstanding, lawsuits related to pressure ulcers are the second most common claim after wrongful death. A pressure ulcer, also known as a bed sore, pressure sore or decubitus ulcer, is an injury to the skin characterized by redness and breakage caused due to constant friction or pressure. It can be painful, difficult to treat, and lead to serious life-threatening consequences.

Depending on the grade of the pressure ulcer – which can range from skin discoloration to damage to the skin patch and underlying structures – different treatments can be prescribed. Treatment is less challenging in the early stages, while later stages may necessitate surgery or aggressive treatments, and require longer recovery times.

Pressure removal or redistribution

Patients who are required to stay in bed for long periods of time are at a risk of friction injury and skin breakdown. They may be made to lie on pressure-relieving mattresses placed on top of regular mattresses. The mattresses can be made of gel, foam or filled with air or water. Small gel cushions are also available for wheelchairs.

Essentially, the job of pressure removal or redistribution products is to remove or spread out pressure from different parts of the body. For instance:

  • Heel booties and elbow pads to prevent skin from rubbing against surfaces
  • Footboards positioned upright at the foot of the bed to maintain the patient’s feet flat against the headboard and keep them aligned properly
  • The pressure of top sheets and blankets can sometimes set off the skin breakdown process. A bed cradle is used to keep the blanket or bedspread away from the patient’s feet while still covering the upper half of his/her body.
  • An alternating pressure bed alternates the deflation and inflation of air cells to change pressure points constantly throughout the body. It also promotes blood flow to the skin and underlying tissues to prevent the formation of decubitus ulcers.
  • An airflow bed is infused with tiny beads and a fabric cover. An air current keeps the beads in constant motion, creating an effect similar to fluid – like a waterbed – to help alleviate pressure at pressure points. The patient’s skin is also kept dry by the circulating air.
  • A wedge turning frame is another equipment that makes it easy to reposition patients with severe burns or spinal injuries.

Depending on the patient’s condition and care plan, appropriate pressure reducing devices may be recommended.

Barrier creams

Skin breakdown is attributed to four main factors: moisture, skin pH, friction, and colonization with microorganisms. Moisture, friction, shear and interface pressure can hasten pressure damage and result in ulceration. Moisture is a common factor – whether the skin become moist from sweat or incontinence – which can break down the outer layer of the skin and increase risk of damage.

A good skin care regimen is essential in patients with urine or fecal incontinence. As far as moisture protection is concerned, barrier creams, ointments or gels can avoid excessive moisture build-up on skin. The barrier cream must be moisturizing, breathable and hypoallergenic, easy to apply and remove, suitable for use on injured and intact skin, and adhere to dry as well as moist skin. Additionally, it must be comfortable and compatible with incontinence bed pads.

Nurses administering skincare regimen to patients must be knowledgeable about the potential irritants in barrier creams to avoid adverse reactions or catch them early on. Studies have indicated that silicone-based barriers offer better protection compared to other barrier treatments, and are also more comfortable than alcohol-based products that often cause discomfort to patients.

Potential irritants include benzyl alcohol, beeswax, edetic acid, polysorbates, fragrances, butylated hydroxyanisole, butylated hydroxytoluene, sodium metabisulphate, sorbic acid, isopropyl palmitate and cetostearyl alcohol.

Perineal care

Patients with urine or feces incontinence issues must be provided quality perineal care. Feces and urine can irritate the skin and lead to its breakdown. Fecal incontinence can be more damaging than urinary incontinence as the enzymes in feces are more active and destructive in an alkaline environment and can distress the skin significantly. Proactive perineal care keeps the skin dry and clean, which is necessary to prevent skin breakdown.

The Role of Nutrition

Randomized control trials have concluded that optimum nutritional support may be beneficial for patients at a risk of developing pressure ulcers. How exactly nutritional support assists ulcer prevention is yet to be ascertained. It could be that an enhanced nutritional status combined with weight gain can increase soft tissue cushioning over bony prominences, which can distribute pressure over a broader area.

Protein, arginine and micronutrients contribute significantly to the wound healing process. Quite a few recent studies in this area have revolved around the role of arginine in particular. The semi-essential amino acid which assists with blood flow and nitric oxide levels has been found to possess beneficial pharmacologic effects. Its vasodilatory and anti-bacterial properties are important to wound healing.

In this regard, nutritional supplementation can be delivered through Arginaid, an l-arginine intensive drink that may enhance protein metabolism, limit muscle loss and promote collagen synthesis to increase the strength of the wound.

Low Blood Pressure Symptoms

When the pressure of the blood that is exerted against the walls of the blood vessels after and during every heart beat is lower than normal, you have low blood pressure. This can result in insufficient blood flow to the important body organs like the heart and the brain. And this can lead to various low blood pressure symptoms.

You may detect low blood pressure symptoms during the use of various drugs such as those used for surgery, anti-anxiety agents, treatment for high blood pressure, diuretics, heart medicines, antidepressants, narcotics, alcohol, and other types of drugs. You may notice the low blood pressure symptoms also because of dehydration, heart failure, or heart attack, anaphylaxis, shock, diabetes (especially in advanced stage), etc.

The most common low blood pressure symptoms are dizziness and lightheartedness. But there are other low blood pressure symptoms, and they are: a tendency to faint, black or maroon stools, chest pain, wheezing, irregular heart beat, consistent high fever, head ache, back pain, or stiff neck. If you happen to spot any of the low blood pressure symptoms, it is recommended that you consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Because of low blood pressure not enough blood reaches to all parts of the body and thus the cells do not receive the correct amount of oxygen and nutrients. Therefore, the waste products in the blood are not removed.

Don’t overlook the risk of low blood pressure if you cough with phlegm or if you are suffering from prolonged diarrhea, or if you are unable to eat or drink, or if you experience burning urinary symptoms or even if you are taking new medicines, because all these are low blood pressure symptoms.

When you start experiencing low blood pressure symptoms remember that the brain is the first organ to malfunction in such situations because it’s located at the top of the body and as a result you will experience dizziness or even fainting. You should be aware that if you don’t treat low blood pressure seriously it might lead to brain damage.

When you have low blood pressure, blood is not adequately supplied to the heart muscles and therefore breathlessness and chest tightness forms one of the common low blood pressure symptoms. When you have prolonged low blood pressure all organs start malfunctioning and this leads to shock.

You must take precautionary measures to avoid the situation from getting worse when you have low blood pressure and you must take your doctor’s advice. You must try to be more physically active and must try to lose weight. You should also maintain a healthy diet and limit your alcohol intake. All these will help you to keep your low blood pressure symptoms under control.

In spite of all the harmful aspects of low blood pressure, researchers say that it is better than high blood pressure because people experiencing low blood pressure symptoms tend to live longer than people suffering from high blood pressure symptoms do.

If you suspect you are suffering with low blood pressure you should consult your primary care physician straight away.
