Bite Protective Clothing Will Help Protect Mental Health Care Professionals

Anyone working within mental health care hospitals or similar facilities specialised in severe learning disabilities, challenging behaviour, special needs or autism, will know that a human bite is a very realistic threat within their specific work environment.

The main problem is that bite related injuries can become infected and mental health care professionals can subsequently be contaminated with pathogens. Transmissions of potentially life threatening viruses, such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C or HIV are also a part of reality.

The NHS Security Management Service in the United Kingdom claimed just a short while ago that mental health care professionals are far more likely to be attacked than other health care workers with a total of 38,958 assaults in 2008-09, accounting for 71% of attacks on health care staff during that period.

The joint Healthcare Commission and Royal College of Psychiatrists here in the UK also reported that more than half of nurses on mental health wards have been physically attacked.

Looking at the potential and realistic consequences, especially following a human bite, we must look at appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), such as bite protective clothing, in order to help protect mental health care professionals from such consequences, which in the worst case scenario can include death, in case a serious and incurable disease has been transmitted.

Bite protective clothing and sleeves can make a difference

Bite protective clothing has recently become a real option when looking into improving the individual safety of mental health care workers. This new type of PPE will drastically reduce the danger of infections.

“Human bites can cause both physical injury, risk of infection, soft tissue damage and psychological distress to staff. Whilst our staff teams are usually aware of the potential for bites from records of previous incidents and preventative steps are taken, additional measure to protect staff from a bite may be beneficial”, states Debbie Townsend, Physical Intervention Training Manager of the Oxfordshire Learning Disability NHS Trust.

Are you aware that the majority of close combat injuries found on police or security specialists can be found on their forearms or hands? These injuries are classed as defensive injuries. Our normal instinctive response when faced by a possible hostile or attacking individual is to lift our arms and hands in order to defend ourselves and protect our head and facial area. This subsequently exposes our forearm and hands to a higher risk of danger of injuries.

Cut, slash and bite resistant sleeves or arm guards will significantly decrease the risk of bite injuries on arms and hands, and subsequently reduce the risk of infections and cross contamination. They will also reduce the risk of any ‘slash attack’ related injuries.

It is simply our normal instinctive response, when faced by a possible hostile or attacking individual, to lift our arms and hands in order to defend ourselves and protect our head and facial area. This subsequently exposes our forearm and hands to a higher risk of danger of injuries.

In fact the majority of injuries found on police, prison or security officers can be found on their forearms or hands. These injuries are classed as defensive injuries, and are often seen as ‘physical evidence’ in a court of law, that the officer was defending him/herself, as opposed to attacking the other person.

It is worth pointing out here that slash and bite resistant clothing in general only reduces the danger of human teeth penetrating the other person’s skin… but will not quit the potentially painful impact due to the pressure and force of the human jaw. So the danger of infection will be eliminated, but the danger of bruising remains.

However, bite protective sleeves, offering additional (padded) protection from blunt forced trauma, efficiently reducing the severity of potentially painful bruising have now also been developed and made available.

Based on the many conversations I personally had over the past many years I can confirm the main concern within this sector seems to be the risk of infection. Bite protective clothing will effectively reduce this risk!

Baby Dehydration Symptoms – How to Rehydrate the Baby Again

What are the common baby dehydration symptoms? How can you recognize these symptoms and what steps to take urgently?

Dehydration of baby means that your baby does not have sufficient fluids in the body. Babies are more prone than adults to dehydration. Babies lose fluids from body through vomiting, diarrhea, fever, sweating, stools or urine. If the baby loses more fluid than he is taking in, then dehydration is the result.

Baby Dehydration Symptoms

Some of the signals to identify dehydration in babies are:

1. 6+ hours pass without a wet diaper

2. Urine smells stronger than normal and/or looks darker in the diaper

3. dry and parched lips

4. sunken eyes

5. excessive sleeping

Steps to Take If You Notice Baby Dehydration Symptoms

Take the baby immediately to a doctor. Do not delay unnecessarily because babies can quickly become seriously dehydrated. Your baby may even need to be given liquids through intravenous tube (IV tube) so that he is re-hydrated.

If the baby is only mildly dehydrated, then the doctor might give instructions about giving special liquid to restore the body’s lost salt and water. There are many such infant electrolyte liquids available in leading pharmacies. But you should not give these on your own without consulting a doctor first.

Reasons for Baby Dehydration

Some of the common reasons for baby dehydration are – hot weather, fever, asthma, allergy, infections, not drinking enough fluids on regular basis, diarrhea etc. Among all these reasons, the most common one is fever accompanied by vomiting or diarrhea.

In such cases, babies lose a lot of fluids from the body rapidly. Due to this the condition of dehydration occurs. Dehydration may be severe or mild. Whatever the case, do not delay in seeking medical assistance as this is a serious situation which should not be taken lightly.

Re-Hydrating the Baby

Remember that dehydration means not only loss of water but also essential minerals, sugar and electrolytes from the body. If the baby is only mildly dehydrated, then take steps to re-hydrate.

These steps include giving lots of fluids to the baby. A few sips might not prove sufficient. Tr to give something to drink every 15 minutes or so. You might want to set a timer for this. If the baby is only taking a tablespoonful of liquids at a time and refuses to take more, then try giving fluids every 5 minutes instead of 15. You can mix little bit of salt or sugar like diluted juice in order to add little bit of taste so that the baby drinks it up.

Continue this till the baby recovers sufficiently and feels better. Then you can increase the time duration of giving fluids. The best thing you can do to rehydrate your baby quickly is to continue breastfeeding him or her. Breast-milk is excellent for the baby as it also contains water. It is very helpful in overcoming baby dehydration symptoms as the breast-milk contains everything the baby requires, including things which will help in boosting the baby’s immune system.

For older infants who eat solids, give lots of fluids as well as small amounts of food which contain fiber and fat as these will bulk up the stools and help in reducing diarrhea symptoms. Giving yogurt is also a good idea as it is good for digestion. It is better to avoid anti-diarrhea medicines for babies less than a year old because they can hinder the body’s natural process of eliminating bacteria and virus.

Feeling Bloated After Eating That Bagel? Read This!

Are you one of the millions of people who love bagels for breakfast or bread with dinner? Let’s face it bread is one of the staples in the food chain that has sustained hungry eaters for centuries.

Why then is there so much talk about the adverse affects of consuming gluten? Bread is supposed to be good for you, right? This may be true for most people but not for others who experience symptoms such as bloating and diarrhea. Some of my patients even complain of fatigue, weight loss, and perhaps muscle and joint pain. When I delve further into their eating habits to determine the cause of their problem, nine times out of ten I find their symptoms tied to gluten sensitivity.

What is gluten sensitivity and how do you know if you have it? If you are asking yourself this question, you are not alone. Let me explain.

“Gluten” is a family of proteins found in wheat along with oats, rye, and barley. Gluten sensitivity is caused by an immune reaction to the gluten. A simple blood test can determine whether you have specific antibodies to gluten. An inherited form of gluten sensitivity is called Celiac Disease and can affect 1 out of 133 people. Celiac Disease is often diagnosed by a biopsy of the small intestine that may reveal physical damage. Other forms of gluten sensitivity or allergy can develop as people grow older.

What Happens If You Keep Eating Gluten?

Some of the symptoms of gluten sensitivity are felt in the digestive tract. Others are more generalized. The body releases chemicals during many immune responses that can cause the vague symptoms of joint pain, fatigue, and muscle pain.

If the gluten-sensitive person continues to eat gluten-containing food, the body will keep making antibodies to gluten. This immune reaction causes physical damage to the lining of the small intestine and makes it difficult for the body to absorb nutrients. This leads to diarrhea and weight loss. If left unchecked, the damage can eventually be life-threatening. Fortunately the small intestine has the ability to regenerate healthy cells and it will recover over time if gluten is removed from the diet.

What If You’re Gluten Sensitive?

Listed below are just a few things you can do if you suspect you might have some of the symptoms described above:

• Check with your doctor and ask for a blood test to determine if you are gluten sensitive.

• Look for foods made with oats, quinoa, rice, corn, millet, and amaranth.

• Prepared foods, such as frozen macaroni and cheese, will list the gluten content on the package.

• Website to gluten-free recipes, products, and local support groups are available online.

• Ask your market to offer tours highlighting gluten-free items on the shelves.

• Request your local market expand gluten-free options.

• Restaurants and cruise ships often have gluten-free options for pizza, pasta, and breads.

• With gluten sensitivity becoming so well-known, you might find if you ask for gluten-free food when you dine out, others in your group will ask for it as well.

• If temptation is an issue, ask to have baskets of crackers and bread taken away after the other guests have helped themselves.

Keep Your Digestive Tract Healthy!

Once you eliminate gluten and your digestive tract is healing, there are ways to keep it working well. Eat a variety of healthy fruits and vegetables. At night, drink a glass of water with a spoonful of psyllium husks mixed in. This adds fiber and helps remove unwanted material from the body. Yogurt can help restore the balance of intestinal bacteria, which is important for digesting food.

Damage caused by gluten sensitivity can interfere with the body’s ability to process food. Your digestive system may need some help in returning to health. Here are some natural ways to help with healing.

• Take a multivitamin, because a damaged intestine absorbs less of the nutrients in food

• L-glutamine is helpful for healing the lining of the small intestine

• A probiotic supplement can help restore the good bacteria in the intestine

• Digestive enzymes can help your system digest food while the natural enzyme balance is recovering

• Fiber, such as psyllium and flax, can help the intestines to function efficiently

If you have been suffering for months or years with gluten sensitivity, be patient. Give your body time to heal once you remove gluten from your diet. Avoid the bakery counter, and instead eat healthy, gluten-free foods. A gluten-free eating plan can lead you to a delicious diet that is better for your overall health!

Cold Sores – What is the Best Medicine?

Cold sores – those nasty, crusty, painful sores that pop out uninvited. How can you get rid of the ugly buggers? And how can you keep them from coming back?

First, what is a cold sore? Typically, a cold sore begins with an uncomfortable sensation on or around the lips. (Some unfortunate souls have outbreaks on or around the nose and cheeks instead.) Many people describe the feeling as tingling, others as a fullness, pain, soreness, or discomfort. At this stage the skin may appear totally normal. The reason these sores hurt more than, say, mosquito bites, is because the nerve endings are involved. A virus (usually herpes type I) lies dormant in the nerve cells and periodically reactivates.

In the second phase, usually a day or so later, the area becomes reddened, blistered, or swollen. The cold sores enlarge for another few days, after which crusting begins (the healing phase). By another week or two the lesions have resolved.

Cold sores are named “cold sores” because they commonly occur during times of physical stress, such as when you have a cold. For some women they occur on a monthly basis, around the menstrual cycle. However, cold sores seem to have a mind of their own and can break out at any time. They are most contagious when the sores are fresh – even before the blemish has blossomed. If you feel one coming on, avoid kissing and other close contact.

A word of warning: don’t confuse cold sores with canker sores. Canker sores, also called aphthous ulcers, occur inside the mouth, and look like shallow white ulcers with a reddened border. Most the time they are not caused by the herpes virus and don’t improve with anti-viral medication. (Aphtasol¬© (amelanox) works well for canker sores, costs about $30 for a small tube, and is available only by prescription.)

As for cold sores, the question is whether to treat an outbreak or use preventive medication or both. People who develop lesions only once or twice a year do well to treat the occurrences only. Those with more frequent outbreaks may want to suppress the infection with daily medication.

The most effective drugs are prescription anti-virals. Just like penicillin kills streptococcal bacteria, the anti-viral medications kill or weaken viral “germs.”

What’s the best medicine for cold sores? It depends on what you’re looking for: quick relief? low cost? minimal side-effects? easy dosing?

Now that oral acyclovir has gone generic, it is the least expensive treatment option. For under $20 you can treat a crop of cold sores OR take the medication daily to prevent an outbreak. (Some pharmacies have acyclovir on their list of $4 medications). For prevention, once or twice a day dosing is often effective. For treatment, taking acyclovir up to five times daily may be required. Most people tolerate acyclovir quite well with few if any side-effects.

Acyclovir and penciclovir ointments are also effective, especially when used at the first sign of an outbreak. However, these topical medications run $50 to $70 for a small tube. Whether using the cream or capsules, treating the affected area as soon as you suspect an outbreak may prevent the sores from developing. The ointments are a good choice for people who don’t tolerate the oral medications (due to headaches or stomach problems, for example. Truly allergic patients should not use the topical preparations at all.)

Oral valacyclovir and famicyclovir are anti-viral medications that have the advantage of less frequent dosing, but higher cost (easily over $100 to treat an outbreak).

Just from reading the above drug names you’re likely to conclude that these medications are similar. In my medical practice I cannot tell that one is superior to another except for ease of dosing and individual side-effects.

Any of these drugs will work better than an over-the-counter medication, but at what price? The lesions will resolve on their own anyway (unless you are immunosuppressed). If the prom is next week, you’ll probably want to invest in a prescription medication. But if it’s a choice between medication and vacation, I’d choose the latter.

Most Important Depression and Anxiety Physical Symptoms

We all feel anxious to an extent from time to time. Let it be a board meeting presentation, public speaking or just waiting for your lover on your first date. But if this regular anxiety gets overwhelming and start attacking frequently, it may lead to a serious mental and emotional situation called anxiety or panic attack.

There are literally millions of people across the world suffering with anxiety and panic problems in their day to day lives. But the sign of relieve is that anxiety disorders are completely curable. The key is to identify and diagnose it at its beginning stages and get it treated properly.

Different biological changes in the body reflect several physical symptoms of anxiety disorders. Common anxiety physical symptoms are easy to identify if you are aware of them. Educating yourself about anxiety physical symptoms not only helps you to identify them for yourself but you can also help people around you to discover this disorder in early stages.

Following are some of the common anxiety physical symptoms:

  • Racing heartbeat called as palpitations.
  • Severe chest pain, often people mistaken this pain as heart attack which adds to the trauma of patients.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Excessive sweating which exhausts the sufferer.
  • Limbs trembling and shaking.
  • Difficulty in swallowing, feelings of choking in throat.
  • Feeling of being smothered.
  • Patients also suffer with nausea and indigestion.
  • Numbness in the limbs.
  • Facial numbness.
  • Patient fears that he is going crazy.
  • Hot and cold flashes, this is more common among female patients.
  • Headaches and migraines.
  • Fatigue and anemia.
  • Sleeplessness.
  • Just moments before anxiety attack patient feel dizzy and lightheaded.
  • In some severe cases anxiety attacks can also lead depression.
  • Due to all the tension in the chest and heart ribs also start paining and result in tender breasts in female patients.

Please note that above anxiety physical symptoms do not dictate the degree of severity of anxiety attacks. Some people suffer with several of the above symptoms while others suffer with just a few of them. There are few people who do not show any anxiety physical symptoms but still experience anxiety attacks.

One best way to deal with anxiety physical symptoms is practising deep-slow-breaths therapy. Due to anxiety we tend to breathe quicker therefore our breath becomes shorter. By taking deep breaths you can calm down the mind and control breathing more effectively.

Why Flossing Teeth Is Important

Flossing teeth is one of the most important things people do for good oral health. In fact, the overall health of your mouth is dependent on it. Nonetheless, dentists usually have to pull teeth (pun intended) to get their patients to perform this essential task. Some estimates say 80% of the public do not floss. There are very good reasons to heed the dentists warning.

It is important to explain what happens when a person doesn’t floss regularly. The bacteria from food gets trapped in between teeth. This forms plaque, a sticky substance made of bacteria, mucus, and food debris. Plaque is fairly easily removed, but over time, it turns into tartar, which can generally only be removed by a dentist. Tartar that is not removed contributes to tooth decay and cavities.

However, the worst consequence of not flossing is periodontal disease. This often takes the form of gingivitis. If left untreated, the gums will eventually become so tender that even light brushing will cause bleeding. Another dire consequence of periodontal disease is increased susceptibility to heart disease. In fact, studies have shown that the risk of heart disease nearly doubles in individuals with periodontal disease.

One effective motivational tactic dentists use to spur patients on to good flossing habits is to explain exactly what is in a mouth that is not flossed regularly. For instance, the reason the gums bleed when being flossed for the first time in awhile is because they have developed pockets of puss. These pockets become irritated when flossed over. It can also be said that an unflossed mouth is full of bacteria, fecal matter and rotten food. As unpleasant as all of that sounds, the real world consequence of the bacteria is bad breath, or halitosis. Beyond just being a social faux pas, foul smelling breath can keep people from getting jobs, or making other social connections.

There are other, more positive sounding reasons to floss as well. It can act as a sort of fountain of youth. Since flossing maintains the mouth, it will help keep the lower third of the face healthy and vibrant. By maintaining their smiles, through flossing, people tend to hold on to their youthful looks much longer.

Choosing the right floss is another key to good oral hygiene. Floss is usually made of either nylon or Teflon. Both are equally effective. People who have larger spaces between their teeth have better success with wide, flat dental floss. People with smaller spaces in between their teeth, naturally are aided by thinner floss. In those cases, one thing to remember is to make sure the floss is strong. It does no good to find that it breaks whenever the teeth need a thorough cleaning. If the person has bridges or braces, a different type of floss may be in order. A product called Super Floss is constructed in a way that threads the floss in between the teeth. Regardless, the bottom line is to find floss that you’ll use. One dentist even suggested (jokingly, of course) that they’d be okay if the patient used shoe laces, as long as they flossed.

Once flossing is established as a habit, the correct technique should be followed. Use a piece about 15 to 18 inches in length, and wrap around the teeth in the shape of a “C”. There is no need to worry about a little blood. This simply means there is some inflammation, but it can usually be reversed after a week to 10 days of regular flossing.

Flossing and brushing every day should be a part of every person’s daily routines. Just like it’s important to eat healthy foods and get regular exercise, it’s important to maintain your oral health.

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura – Could Sugar Be a Contributing Factor to Your ITP Disorder?

Could what you eat trigger your ITP disorder? There is a strong possibility, especially when it comes to Sugar.

If  you have just found out you have Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura or have already run the gamut of conventional medical treatments, and have already exhausted some of the options of traditional ITP treatment, only to find that every time you lessen or cease the doses, that your blood platelet levels  start to tumble again,  have you considered the possibility that maybe sugar could be contributing to this blood disorder, or any other auto immune disorder for that matter.

If  you are actively seeking more knowledge about your ITP blood disorder and what might be causing it. Lets have a look at these three forms of sugar substances that can be seriously affecting your health.

Sugar in General – One of the most insidious food culprits known to mankind, and one of everybody’s favorites. Everything just has to be so sweet! Unfortunately, we as a society consume way too much refined sugar. Did you know that the average American consumes a whopping 180 pounds of sugar each year . That’s approximately 1/2 pound per day. When you think about it this, it’s down right scary. And did you realize that many in and outside the medical profession recognize that sugars, high fructose corn syrup products, and refined carbohydrates are considered to be one of the major contributing factors  to most of our modern day health issues from obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and a whole range of auto immune disorders such as Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura. Too much sugar in refined and unnatural forms acts as an irritant to our body, causing chronic inflammation and compromises our immune system.

Soft Drinks – Don’t get me going on these useless beverages. It is now being acknowledged throughout the medical and scientific community that we seriously harming our immune system by drinking cola drinks. Not only do the chemical food additives such as artificial flavoring, coloring and preservatives present a problem, but because of the extremely high sugar content coupled with the fact that the sugar used is not just common sugar, but High Fructose Corn Syrup, a single can of soda has been acknowledged to disrupt the immune system by up to 50% for up to 8 hours. How many soft drinks did you drink this week? What about your kids? What if you are one of those people who drink multiple sodas each and every day? This is not good. My advice to you is … Do not drink soft drinks at all especially if you have a compromised immune system and are fighting an auto immune disease such as ITP. And especially if your ultimate goal is to be well!

High Fructose Corn Syrup – Sounds so innocent, doesn’t it? You thought I made common sugar out to be a monster, well the mother of all food monsters is High Fructose Corn Syrup, otherwise known as HFCS. This sneaky little demon is everywhere and just happens to be one of the most commonly used food additives. Isn’t it only just sugar made from corn, you ask? No, No and Absolutely not! HFCS is a man made sugar derived from the fructose in corn (an offshoot of the corn industry). HFCS is instantly absorbed by the body and goes directly into your cells wreaking havoc with your metabolism.

This sugar substance has only been on the scene for about the last 40 years or so and is suspected to be responsible for our current obesity and daibetes epidemic that is prevalent in society today. But besides these two well known health diseases, it also is responsible  for acute chronic inflammation in the body and can trigger a host of other immune diseases such as ITP disorder. In 1970, the annual consumption of HFCS was approximately 10 ounces per person per year and by the year 2000 was now in over 40% of all sweeteners added to our food and drinks. that is why we are seeing such an increase in modern diseases and immune system disorders.

Controlling  your sugar intake could be a very positive step forward to regaining or preserving your precious health.

Measure For Controlling The Rapid Growth Of Population

Need for controlling the growth of population

Overpopulation is, indeed, a serious socio-economic problem of India. This problem has adversely affected the progress of the economy and the standard of the living of the people. The problem is an urgent one and needs immediate solution.

Overpopulation is related to the size of the population and the population and the utilization of the countries resources. The problem should be tackled from both the sides. Firstly, production should be increased to meet the needs of the people. Secondly, size of the population should be controlled and reduced.

Measure of increase production

Growing the population of the country can be supported through increase production. Agricultural and industrial productions are to be increased for this purpose.

1.Increase in agricultural production:

It is necessary to resort to modern scientific cultivation in order to increase agricultural output. Use of irrigation, high yielding seeds, rotation of crops, utilization of chemicals, fertilizers, manures and such other means are to be adopted for this purpose.

2.Increase in industrial production:

The process of industrialization is to be accelerated. Modern sophisticated technology must be made use for industrial production. The industrial strategy should be such that it should be able to increase production and at the same time provides job facilities to a sizable number of people.

3.Development of trade and commerce:

The development of trade and commerce will contribute to additional income and help the country to support the growing the population.

Measure to control and reduced population

The problem of overpopulation can be effectively dealt with only if the rapid growth rate of population is contained. Various measures are to be undertaken in this regard.

1.Family planning measures:

Family planning is nowadays considered an indispensable method of controlling population. The motto of planning is-“child by choice and not by chance” or “child by desire not by accident.” The size of the family must be limited voluntary.

2.Providing education facilities of the people:

Illiteracy is one of the factors of overpopulation. It is to be countered in order to contain the population growth. Spread of education among illiterate hassles is a significant step in reducing the birth rate.

3.Rise in the age of marriage:

In order to reduce the child-bearing period of women (reproductive span of women), it is necessary to rise the minimum age of marriage from 18 to for females and 21 to 24 for males. Child marriages should be prohibited.

4.Improving status of women:

Experience in the west has shown that high status of women is closely associated with a low birth rate. The desire to rise in the social scale develops a strong feeling for a smaller family.

5.Propaganda in Favor of Small Family:

Enough publicity is to be given in a country like India regarding the benefits of a small family to the general masses. Mass media of communication like the press, radio, television and movies are of great help in this regard.

6.Provision of Incentives:

Incentives such as cash payments and promotion in jobs, free education, preference in admission to technical courses, etc. could be given to the people who accept and adopt family planning.

7.Increasing the Standard of Living of the Mass:

People with higher standard of living normally opt for small family. Hence, it is necessary to increase the standard of living of the masses.

Did Macrobiotics Contribute to Steve Jobs’ Death?

Macrobiotics is a holistic philosophy of life and healing, embraced by Steve Jobs when he was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, according to his biographer. Exactly what is involved in practicing macrobiotics? Macrobiotics advises a balanced diet primarily of whole grains, vegetables and soy products such as miso, individualized according to a person’s constitution and condition. It has helped many people heal themselves from a variety of diseases, including cancer.

However, in the case of Steve Jobs, he may have been better served by taking advantage of surgery as soon as he was diagnosed, in addition to following the macrobiotic way of life. The problem with alternative healing methods, such as macrobiotics, is that they may delay a person from taking advantage of the latest technological diagnostic methods and surgery, when called for.

Unfortunately, in the last ten years, many esteemed macrobiotic teachers and counselors themselves have died of cancer. Is it because they didn’t get early diagnosis? Or because they didn’t take advantage of surgery to remove the tumor and then use macrobiotics or other holistic approaches to remove the cause and the potential spread of their cancer?

The great macrobiotic teacher, Herman Aihara, a student of the founder of macrobiotics, George Ohsawa, was a small, humble man who empowered many to heal through a whole foods diet and home remedies. Aihara often told cancer patients to have their tumors removed first, and then to come back for macrobiotic counseling to learn how to change their lives – physically, emotionally and spiritually – and naturally starve out cancer cells and prevent a recurrence. He cared more about each person’s life than about proving that his philosophy alone was the right one.

Alternative healing methods work best when combined with conventional medical diagnosis and treatment. The hope for the future is “complementary medicine,” which combines the best of both worlds. I see hope with major medical centers including meditation and Healing Touch to their repertoire of treatments.

The Chakra Diaries, novel life stories of people on a healing journey, includes the story of Julie, an alternative healer who did not take advantage of allopathic medicine and was therefore not diagnosed with melanoma until she was in Stage 4 and there was little intervention available. It is a dramatized version of a true story – not the same as Steve Jobs’ story, but with the same end result. And the same moral… take advantage of both alternative wisdom and medical technology. Combine the best of all that is available.

Tissue Salts Can Offer a Natural Asthma Attack Remedy

Don’t get rid of your corticosteroid inhaler. It may be the only thing to work with a severe attack, but natural healthcare does offer an asthma attack remedy which can reduce the severity and decrease or totally get rid of the dependence upon medicine like corticosteroids and bronchodilators. It is possible that the use of an inhaler will become less and less.

Inhalers have side effects which are unpleasant,t such as headaches, throat irritation, frequent infections, tremors, or heart palpitations. Use of inhalers over a long period of time can reduce the body’s ability to absorb calcium effectively and cause osteoporosis because the needed calcium is being taken from the bones.

Natural healthcare can provide significant benefits to respiratory functioning and an asthma attack remedy when used along with a broader lifestyle management changes, such as recognizing and avoiding triggers such as dust and pollen and a redo of the diet incorporating the following:

  • Eat at least four different-colored fruits, veggies, and beans daily to get a full spectrum of antioxidants.
  • Cut out dairy and soy products, and replace with milk and cheese made from rice
  • Eat more salmon and oily fish but less meat.
  • Each day, supplement with 4,000 mg fish oil, 1,000 mg calcium, 1,000 mg quercetin, 600 mg magnesium, 300 mg grape-seed extract, and 200 mg pycnogenol.
  • Coffee has been shown to work as a potent bronchodilator. Drink a cup or two of strong, unsweetened black coffee when you feel an attack coming on

While most of us take easy breathing for granted, those who struggle to breathe come to realize the value of a healthy respiratory system and a strong immune system. The strength and capacity of the lungs becomes all important.

Keeping the immune system in top form is essential for good health period. In addition, for those who tend to have chest and breathing problems, it is important to support the strength and capacity of the lungs by means of regular exercise and by avoiding any known allergens.

What are tissue salts and how can they be helpful as an asthma attack remedy? There are twelve tissue salts in the human body which help to keep it in a natural healthy state, able to heal itself by correcting imbalances at the cell level. When theses salts are in the correct concentration we are healthy, but when an imbalance occurs normal cell function is disturbed and illness results.

Specially prepared doses of biochemic tissue salts can provide a natural asthma attack remedy. These three biochemic, cell supporting tissue salts combined together can provide such a remedy:

  • Kali phos (6X) is often called ‘nature’s pacifier’. It has a relaxing effect on the nerves and throughout the body and helps to support healthy breathing.
  • Mag phos (6X) has a variety of uses, amongst these is the ability to prevent spasms and tightness in the chest
  • Nat sulph (6X) is classically used as a natural bronchial tonic and helps to soothe the respiratory tract

This homeopathic formula of tissue salts may be taken internally at the first signs of wheezing, chest constriction, closed airways or abnormal breathing for effective help as an asthma attack remedy. It supports lung and bronchiole functioning, maintains the respiratory tract and immune system health and doesn’t have the side effects of corticosteroids and bronchodilators.

A Sauna Bath Every Day is Good For Your Body and Mind – Research

A sauna bath every day is good to help make your body to feel better and more soothed, and help ease your troubles and woes. A sauna sweat bath uses dry heat to give you that relaxed feeling. A sauna bath a day is good for your body because it raises the temperature of your body internally to around 38 degrees Celsius and your skin temperature to 40 degrees Celsius. Your body thinks you are sick and have a fever so your body starts healing and if you are not sick then you are healing stuff that usually gets ignored when you are sick. This also makes your immune system stronger because it is getting practice at healing your body, and it also start making more white blood cells, interferon, and antibodies.

Steam is a great way to get rid of laryngitis and bronchitis, even sinus problems. For other problems like circulation and tension in the muscular and nervous system. If you sit in a sauna for twenty minutes your heart rate can be increases by fifty to seventy five percent. Which would be the same thing as if you were to physically exercise. Which can help your lose more weight, you will also start growing more muscle because of the natural hormone growth hormone boost. And if you suffer from arthritis pain like I do it can even help ease and relieve that. A sauna bath every day is good for people suffering from painful joint movement, like rheumatoid arthritis.

Following some very simple exercises can ensure you grow taller naturally and get the best possible results.

Here are some simple height increase exercises that have helped thousands to grow taller naturally. Try these and you may get some astonishing results.

1) Swimming is an excellent exercise that helps in reducing the compressive forces applied to your spine. When you swim the disks in your vertebrae can expand and this can help in adding some height.

2) Hanging from a pole upside down can help in growing taller. This exercise helps in expansion of the spinal column. Don’t overdo this exercise otherwise you can cause damage to your back.

3) Rope skipping is another height increase exercise that helps in strengthening the bones and muscles in the thigh and lower leg. Rope skipping causes your entire body to stretch and become more flexible.

4) Wall stretch exercises also help in adding height. Place your back against the wall and raise both your hands as high as possible. You would be standing on your toes in the fully stretched position. This exercise helps in elongating the spine and removal of spinal curvature.

5) High speed sprinting has been one of the best height increase exercises practiced by athletes and sports persons. High speed sprinting results in micro fractures in leg bones. These micro fractures heal extremely fast within a week and help you to grow taller naturally.

6) Sit in a comfortable position with weights tied to both your ankles. You should sit in such a way that your feet don’t touch the ground. If required take some padding or pillows to raise yourself. Start with 2 to 4 pounds attached to each leg initially and then slowly increase the weight.

7) Yoga height increase exercises work by helping you elongate your body from the abdominal region. These exercises also correct the posture so that there is no curvature in your spine. Chakrasana and tadasana are two exercises that are extremely beneficial to grow taller naturally.

Dexterity Testing

Dexterity evaluation products examine a person’s motor skills with regards to the fingers, hands, and arms. Various exams exists to measure such performance abilities as eye-hand coordination, quickness at performing assembly tasks, and overall motor skill development. Dexterity exams are used in assessing progress when doing physical and occupational rehabilitation, screening applicants for necessary job skills, and evaluating the extent of an injury or other disability.

Most screening programs for dexterity naturally involve the use of some combination of fingers on both hands to follow some designated evaluation procedure, such as placing pegs into a pegboard. Some dexterity exams check for the subject’s ability to use not only the hands, but also test arms and shoulders more extensively as well.

A few standard testing procedures have established the accepted norms for measuring dexterity. They include the Purdue Pegboard Test, the Minnesota Dexterity Test, the O’Connor Fingers and Tweezers Tests, and the Roeder Manipulative Aptitude Test. In addition to these tests, others tests exist which measure coordination skills related to specific job functions.

Purdue Pegboard

The Purdue Pegboard was developed by an industrial psychologist at Purdue University to examine the capability of applicants to perform industrial jobs. This test provides a few different testing setups and procedures, and can be adapted to specific testing needs. Tests performed using the Purdue Pegboard Test setup include removing pins from a tray and placing them into a pegboard. Another part of the Purdue Test involves assembling a combination of pins, washers, and collars. Testing is usually timed for both of these test setups so that the results show both the quickness and accuracy of the subject in performing the dexterity tasks.

Minnesota Dexterity

This test has two versions, the Minnesota Manual Dexterity Test (MMDT) and the Complete Minnesota Dexterity Test (CMDT). Both tests measure eye-hand coordination. The tests involve having test subjects perform dexterity movements using disks. The CMDT includes five different tests in the entire test battery, which makes it more accommodating to testing a wider spectrum of dexterity metrics.

O’Connor Fingers and Tweezers Tests

The O’Connor tests are used for testing more precise movements of the fingers. The finger test requires the subject to place pins in holes, a setup similar to the Purdue Pegboard Test. The O’Connor Tweezers Test requires the testee to use a pair of tweezers to perform the pin placement. The O’Connor bare generally used to determine the aptitude of someone being considered for an assembly job such as sewing.

Roeder Manipulative Aptitude Evaluation

This test assesses a person’s ability to assemble and sort objects. The apparatus includes a performance board, rods with threaded ends, along with nuts, washers, and caps. The rods can be screwed into sockets on a performance board. Testing involves various sorting sequences as well as assembly testing. Subjects are timed as they perform sequences of sorting and assembly the rods, washers, caps, and nuts on the performance board. The Roeder setup can be used for a range of skills assessment.

Job Specific Dexterity Assessment

Other tests have been invented to check a person’s skills for a particular test or to understand progress made by rehabilitation. A hand tool dexterity test exists to examine a subject’s proficiency with mechanical tools, such as wrenches, and screwdrivers. There are other tests available that allow applicant screening and rehabilitation professionals to measure people’s ability to function in many different capacities. Wherever there is a widespread to evaluate someone’s performance with regard to a job function, there is likely a dexterity test available.

Some General Guidelines for Performing Dexterity Assessments

Although the various dexterity tests are somewhat extensible and can be used for many particular assessment needs, it is strongly suggested that the testing be correlated with the job function or skill for which the evaluation is intended. Otherwise, the results are meaningless.

The examples described above have become widely accepted because they use well-defined, systematic procedures. The core focus of dexterity testing is to normalize the results to understand what level of performance should be expected of a subject, allowing the evaluation to rate an outcome and compare it to a standard.

How to Astral Project – The Robert Monroe Method Revealed

If you want to astral project, you must first banish all doubts and fears. If you cannot do this, banish the idea of astral projection for now and just focus on learning more about it. This will help you get rid of fear and prepare you for a real astral projection experience. After that, you can consider what Robert Monroe has to say on how to astral project.

Robert Allan Monroe, well-known for his research on altered consciousness and founder of the Monroe Institute, has taught many students how to astral project. Before getting ready to project, Monroe advises students to remove all jewelry and loosen their clothing. Students must also ensure that they are in a quiet undisturbed place. To banish fear and get into a receptive state of mind, students are advised to affirm that the experience they are about to have is for their good and will do them good.

Monroe teaches aspiring astral projectors how to astral project in 7 simple and safe steps.

First Step

Relax your body and mind completely. Monroe doesn’t specify any relaxation technique; so you can use a technique that best suits you.

Second Step

Enter the hypnagogic state of mind, a state that is close to sleep. Monroe calls this Condition A. Again, he doesn’t specify a method. You can use any method you like to get into Condition A.

Third Step

Get deeper and deeper into Condition A. Begin clearing your mind of all thoughts. Observe the void ahead of you. Soon, you will notice patterns of light. These are just neural discharges; so don’t get alarmed. When these neural discharges cease, you will have entered into Condition B. To astral project successfully, you must enter Condition C, a deeper state of relaxation, and then Condition D, a state of total void.

Fourth Step

Get into a mode of vibration. When you have successfully reached the fourth step, you will feel a tingling sensation all over the body.

Fifth Step

Start controlling those vibrations. Push them into your head, down your toes, or just flood them all over your body. Learn to produce vibration waves all over your body. Soon, you will be able to vibrate at will. Once you have achieved this, you are ready to astral project.

Sixth Step

First, project partially. Focus is of great importance during this step. Simply focus on leaving your body; and push stray thoughts out of your head. Monroe suggests that you release an astral limb (hand or foot) out of your physical body, touch a familiar object with the astral limb, push your astral limb through the object, and then return the astral limb to your physical body. Repeat this often.

Seventh Step

It is now time for complete separation. Monroe suggests 2 methods for this. You can just lift your astral body from the physical body by imagining yourself getting lighter or you can use the roll out technique and just roll out of your body.

Usually, the Monroe method works. If it doesn’t, you need not despair. There are hundreds of books on how to astral project. Find a method that suits you best and stick to it. You will soon be able to teach others how to astral project.

Is Parsley A Bad Breath Solution?

Bad breath is a common cause for awkwardness for many people especially when they are in close proximity to another person e.g.: going on a date, taking an interview, or being at a wedding. While a small percentage of people suffer from this condition on a regular basis, a larger percentage of people experience it only occasionally.

The condition may be associated with teeth and gum problems or due to some trouble originating from the lungs or the stomach. It may also crop up when the person is suffering from some illness such as cold, upper respiratory tract infections, sore throat, etc. It may also originate if there is drying up of the mouth (xerostomia) or in cases of poor oral hygiene.

If the cause for bad breath is due to some systemic illness or due to teeth and gum problems, there is no remedy to negate the bad breath unless the underlying source is treated. Once the basis for the condition is identified and treated, the bad breath disappears on its own. You can treat these sources with natural remedies, but you need a combination of items to make the proper recipe.

But if the source for the condition is due to poor oral hygiene or due to drying up of the mouth, improving on the hygiene and the use of some age-old home remedies do bring about progress in reducing the condition.

One among such time tested home remedies to temporarily reduce bad breath is the use of parsley. This has been used in various forms for many years and is favored by many people. The leaves of Parsley are rich in chlorophyll and acts as a powerful neutralizer of bad breath. Chlorophyll is an anti-mutagen that acts as a very good deodorizer.

Parsley has been used in various forms to combat bad breath, but the effects are at its best when it is fresh. Parsley is the best antidote for bad breath especially for reducing garlic-odor when some food containing garlic has been consumed.

When dining outside in a restaurant, if a person feels that he/ she is having bad breath the easiest way out is to order a dish that contains Parsley. Chewing on the leaves will give instant relief and avoid embarrassment.

Chewing on parsley sprigs dipped in vinegar also helps combat bad breath. This when chewed and swallowed and helps in improving the digestion. The sprigs of Parsley when swallowed also help in reducing intestinal gases that may further reduce bad breath.

Many breath fresheners that are commercially available contain Parsley as one of its ingredients. The aromatic oils of parsley used in these breath fresheners are ideal in reducing bad breath.

Parsley contained in a capsule was commercially available as a method to combat bad breath. This was marketed with the concept saying that the condition is a problem of the digestive tract and not from the oral cavity. This product was later removed from the market when the company’s claims were challenged in the court by other competitors in the field.

Parsley is also used to make a homemade remedy to fight bad breath. It is boiled in water along with some whole or ground cloves and the mixture is then cooled and strained. This strained product of Parsley and cloves is gargled as a mouthwash to help reduce bad breath.

Though many commercial products are available in the market, many people still prefer to use simple, natural and easily available remedies such as Parsley to help them battle killer bad breath. Unfortunately, for those who suffer from chronic bad breath, or halitosis, a simple solution like this will not be sufficient.
