Moloscom Contagiosum

Moloscum is a common misspelling of Molluscum Contagiosum, a highly infectious virus that affects human skin.

Moloscom is actually relatively harmless in the sense that it does not cause any complications or concomitant illnesses or conditions. However, moloscom is a very obnoxious condition to have and can stifle the self-confidence of the infected party.

How to people wind up getting Molluscum Contagiosum? Moloscom is easily transmitted through skin to skin contact or by sharing clothing, towels, bedding, etc.

The virus is particularly contagious on wet media such as wet skin or wet towels. It’s extremely infectious character is what gives it the appendage “contagiosum”, meaning contagious.

It is most common to see Molluscum Contagiosum in children but adults get it as well. Immunocompromised persons (i.e. people with lowered immune systems) are more likely to become infected with moloscom and tend to carry it around longer.

That is one major disadvantage of mollescum: it tends to stick around for up to a year in its host.

So what does Moloscom look like?

Generally, an infected individual will develop small, pimple-like lesions on their skin and may exhibit a small patch of them in a given area. The pimples look white and are both painless and do not itch.

Molluscum warts, as they are called, can also spread themselves to other parts of the body with healthy skin even with no help from you. This process is termed autoinnoculation and is a survival mechanism of the virus.

The virus is actually contained in a small, white, waxy ball inside the pimple, and removal of the pimples generally abates the moloscum virus. In fact, this is the most common and also most highly recommended treatment for molluscum contagiosum.

It’s technically called surgery but it is a very non-invasive procedure that involves using a very sharp tool called a currette to scoop out the pimple while preserving as much healthy skin as possible.

It is slightly painful but beats the alternative of carrying around moloscum for up to a year and potentially infecting others, all the while self-conscious about this skin condition.

There are several other treatments such as cryotherapy, which involves using liquid nitrogen or nitrogen oxide to freeze off the molluscum warts.

There are also a number of topical creams available which are more or less ineffective in the short term.

Since it takes the body considerable time to recognize the virus as a threat and mount a proper immune response, the best option is to have the virus removed mechanically.

Whether with a currette, laser (this is expensive), or cryotherapy, the mechanical removal of moloscom is very safe and rarely leaves scars.

There is no reason to carry around molluscum contagiosum when getting rid of moloscum is a doctor’s visit away!

Gout Painkillers – 3 Natural Painkillers For Gout Instead of Drugs

Painkillers are usually prescribed for excruciating gout pain. But did you know you can also use natural painkillers for gout? Here are 3 natural painkillers…

First, though, let’s look at the typical drug-based gout painkillers in use today. The most common are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Typical of these are ibuprofen, indomethacin, diclofenac, and, naproxen. And depending on the individual case, these can be very effective over a few days.

Some known side effects are, vomiting, stomach pain, bleeding and ulcers.

When NSAIDs are inappropriate for the patient, or, are not powerful enough for the gout attack intensity, then other painkillers such as corticosteroids or colchicines can be prescribed. These are powerful drugs that are effective as well, but have some nasty side effects too. Things like stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, lowered immunity to infection, and so on.

Which is why an ever-increasing number of gout sufferers are turning to natural gout painkillers without these side effects. There are many natural gout pain remedies out there, but here are just 3 to get you started…

These contains omega-3 fatty acids which have natural anti-inflammatory properties. About 3 grams per day, but, some sufferers take up to 9 grams. Consult your doctor if you need to take over 3 grams per day.

Bromelain supplements are derived from enzymes found in the stem of the pineapple plant. Bromelain can relieve the inflammation in and around the affected joint and so help to relieve gout pain. Dosage depends on the strength of the supplement, but 2 x 500 mg daily is probably the average.

Baking soda helps dissolve the uric acid crystals that cause gout pain. It also increases the solubility of uric acid to allow the kidneys to excrete more from your system.

Just mix 1/2 teaspoon in 8oz of water and drink a glass before bed, first thing in the morning, and, once every 2 to 4 hours between meals. No more than 4 teaspoons of baking soda per day until symptoms disappear. You need to go to a salt-free diet whilst using this remedy because baking soda is high in sodium. And, if you have high blood pressure, speak to your doctor before trying this remedy.

These are just 3 of the many natural gout remedies and painkillers out there. And, what might work well for some, might not work well for other sufferers. You need to figure out what works best for you.

And as well as killing the pain of a gout attack, you need to prevent further, repeating attacks. These can cause serious joint damage, as well as kidney problems like kidney stones. Plus, once having had a gout attack you’re extremely likely to have more.

Amino Acid Therapy for Multiple Sclerosis

Treating Multiple Sclerosis (MS) with ordinary amino acids can be accomplished with Quantum Orthomolecular Medicine. Large doses of naturally found proteins called amino acids can restore the body’s ability to produce normal levels of hormones and neurotransmitters. These amino acids are affordable and are used in therapeutic doses much larger than those levels normally found in food. The concept of orthomolecular medicine is based upon the use of very large doses of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, or botanical extracts for the cellular repair and enhancement of normal activities.

Multiple Sclerosis has many issues that can be treated with amino acid therapy. Brain fog, mental alertness, muscle fatigue, low energy, poor memory, cognitive disorders, nerve speed, brain function, and spinal cord function. MS may be diagnosed when there are lesions found in the brain or the spinal column. Genetic tests can also be used to diagnose MS. DNA is damaged by this very serious disease. The amino acids can repair genetic material that is not operating correctly in the cell. This is not a magic bullet for this disease. This is a treatment that can help slow the progression of the disease or place it into remission. This is not a cure in its current form. Amino acid therapy in IV form may have the potential in the future to prevent the onset of the disease for those given a genetic test that provides a diagnosis prior to the onset of symptoms and formation of lesions. This amino acid IV will need additional products added to the amino acids.

There are many MS patients with hormone problems that can be helped with orthomolecular medicine. Hormone imbalances can be balanced with amino acids or bio-identical hormones for women in menopause. MS patients reaching menopause have symptoms worsen due to lower hormone levels. Important factors for this include addressing key issues like pollutants, heavy metal poisoning, PCB’s in plastics, food allergies, and poor diets. Refrain from placing food in plastic containers into the microwave. The microwave can release these plastics into the food. This causes the plastics to interfere with estrogens in the body. Use glass rather than plastic to store items in the refrigerator. Do not drink bottled water after it has been sitting in your trunk or car in the hot sun. This releases the plastics into the bottled water.

Essential fatty acids are frequently insufficient in the diet of a person with MS, menopause, and andropause. The fatty acids needed are Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9. Try to include a variety of essential fatty acids into your diet such as salmon, pecans, walnuts, flaxseed, avocados, walnut oil, olive oil, almond oil, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds. The nerve’s myelin sheath and nerve transmission are impaired when the body has inadequate essential fatty acids. Quantum molecular medicine uses very large quantities of alpha lipoic acid to improve nerve function. There is another therapy utilized along with supplements to repair nerve function.

Amino acid therapy is useful in improving unbalanced hormone levels and neurotransmitters. The amino acids used are theanine, 5-HTP, arginine, and carnitine. These may serve to help restore proper hormone levels in several ways and are needed in large therapeutic doses for a fairly long time. Valine is extremely important n MS and low levels of valine cause problems the myelin sheath over the nerve. This causes degenerative neurological conditions and slows nerve impulses.

The MS patient with food allergies should avoid all caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. This patient should also implement a Rotation Diet or the G.A.R.D. Diet. NAET is a good way to treat food allergies. It is not an overnight treatment and will require at least 20 to 30 treatments. Diet in order to reduce exposure to food allergens and allow the immune system to go into remission. Environmental toxins and pollutants should be avoided. Drink pure water, eat organic, take multivitamins, get extremely mild exercise, avoid heat, avoid hot tubs, avoid direct sun in hot climates, and get adequate sleep. Your diet should be high in local or organic fruits and vegetables. People with immune system disorders should avoid meat with hormones and genetically modified foods. Do not underestimate the damage that genetically modified foods may cause to those with auto-immune diseases. Try to eliminate all refined foods and carbonated beverages. Try to drink coffee that has been decaffeinated with water by the Swiss Method.

A positive attitude does amazing things for those fighting immune system problems. Visualize yourself healthy and well at least once per day. Ask your prayer group at church to pray for your healing.

The Function of Automated External Defibrillators

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are not vastly dissimilar from the ones many of us have seen for years on medical shows or in emergency rooms at hospitals. The device exists to correct a fibrillation, or irregular heart rate that is negatively impacting blood flow, but unlike the standard defibrillators, the automated external defibrillator can be operated by any citizen; even those with little or no medical training.

When a person experiences cardiac arrest or a heart attack, a defibrillator is placed on the chest and an electric current or shock is channeled via electrodes or paddles. The shock is intended to jolt the patient’s elevated and chaotic heart rhythm back into a normal range, thus returning blow flow to normal levels. But in the case of the automated external defibrillator, or AED, the device determines whether or not a shock is warranted, and if so, what level of energy is required to revive the patient. The user cannot override the determination of the AED, and therefore an inexperienced person without medical training need not worry about using the defibrillator on a patient not actually in cardiac arrest.

Due to this drastically reduced risk of abuse, the AED has become a fixture at various public forums such as airports, casinos or sports arenas. There have been many cases where individuals, particularly athletes or the elderly, have been stricken by sudden cardiac arrest only to be saved by the presence of an automated external defibrillator.

One brand of AED available to the public, the Zoll AED Plus, has many features designed to make the use of the defibrillator as simple as possible for someone with little or no medical background. It includes a graphical user interface and voice prompts that will walk the user, step by step, through the entire process, as well as a single pad that eliminates the confusion of placing electrodes on the patient’s body. In addition the Zoll AED Plus runs on conventional batteries, promising both convenience and financial savings.

The American Heart Association strongly supports the placement of Automated External Defibrillators or AEDs in any public places where immediate cardiac care may be needed. Other prime targets include shopping malls, gated communities and office complexes.

For those interested in purchasing an AED for use in their community or organization, the FDA may require a physician’s prescription for the device. Your local EMS system can assist you in determining the local and state protocols for owning and operating an AED.

There are also AED training and education courses available through the American Heart Association. One such course is the new Heartsaver AED course that combines CPR and AED training.

With the immergence of Automated External Defibrillators or AEDs, the potentially life saving measure of averting cardiac arrest has been made available to the general public with a very low risk of misuse or abuse. As AEDs continue to appear in more and more public domains, the hope is that the tragic results of sudden cardiac arrest or heart attack can be reduced significantly, giving regular people the chance to be a hero.

Four Reasons to Visit Your Dentist Regularly

For the majority of Americans, health care, including dental care, is applied on an as-needed basis. If you have an injured foot, you go to the podiatrist. If you can’t see well, go to the optometrist. If you have a toothache, see the dentist. This approach to oral hygiene is not only bad for a person’s teeth, but it could cause serious health issues in the future. Here are four reasons why people need to have their teeth checked on a regular basis.

Catch Issues Early

Just as with all other medical issues, regular dental exams will catch small issues before they become larger. This includes cavities, impacted teeth, and even gum disease. All of these problems can lead to painful and potentially dangerous issues down the road. However, if they are caught early enough, they can be easily treated.

Prevent Other Health Problems

While some people may exercise regularly, eat well, and listen to their doctor, they do not realize that their mouth can have a major impact on their health as well. One of the biggest issues that any dentist will see is gum disease. Gum disease, like many other conditions, is brought about by genetics and a lack of proper tooth care. People who suffer from gum disease are nearly twice as likely to also suffer from heart disease. It can also play a role in the regulation of the body’s sugar levels. Certain types of plaque have even been linked to Alzheimer’s. So it is important for people to remember that a healthy mouth is an important part of any healthy lifestyle.

Save Money

As discussed above, regular visits to a dentist can help stop many oral hygiene related issues before they spread. Along with being smart medically, regular exams can also save patients significant money. A typical dental cleaning and exam will cost less than $100 on average. Most insurance plans will cover annual or bi-annual cleanings at no cost to the patient. People who avoid regular cleanings can be faced with expensive procedures such as filling cavities, which cost about $200 per cavity, and root canals, which can easily run over $1,000. If gum disease becomes serious, a deep cleaning requiring anesthetic will be necessary. This will typically cost over $500, and may be needed every six months. A dental implant, to replace a lost molar or incisor, will cost well over $3,000. In short, taking an hour out of the day twice a year for a tooth cleaning is an easy and effective way of saving big bucks down the road.

Maintain A Great Smile

Survey after survey has shown that one of the first things people observe about another person is their smile. Whether it is in a business setting, casual get together, or on a date, people notice each others’ smiles. Regular visits to the dentist can keep a patient’s smile healthy, white, and happy.

A dentist is an important part of a happy and healthy life and should be visited regularly.

How To Prevent From Developing A Cyst and Natural Remedies

Cysts are abnormal growths occur in any part of the body. These abnormal

growths are usually characterized by an enclosed sac filled with fluids.

The cysts that are associated with malignant tumors or infections may develop

into cancer. It is advisable to remove cysts immediately even if no pain

is felt by the person. There is a common but mistaken notion that cysts

can disappear by themselves. Perhaps this happens in some cases but this

“passive” way of treatment is not the normal way to treat cysts. There are

some known causes of cysts such as those that are caused by infections, chronic

inflammatory conditions or genetic conditions. Most cysts however arise for

no known apparent cause.

The symptoms of cyst usually include abnormal lumps in the body. Cysts on the

skin are normally noticeable. In many cases of acute breast cancer, many women

have noticed lumps on their breast. The cysts that appear on internal organs

may not produce any symptoms at all. They are sometimes discovered

accidentally when the person is subjected to medical imaging, such as when

someone goes for a general check up or X-ray.

Most cysts are benign (i.e. mild or painless) but some may produce symptoms

due to their size or location in the body. Cysts that come in contact with

nerves may cause pain.

An individual who notices an abnormal growth or lump in the body should

immediately seek medical attention.

The prevention of cysts, as well as the prevention of inflammation of some

parts of the body, can be helped with vitamin C combined with with herbal

substances called bioflavonoids.

Many cysts in women occur on the ovary and the best way to prevent cysts on the

ovary is to keep the ovary healthy. Vitamin A and beta-carotene are very

much useful in maintaining a fully healthy and full and functioning ovarian

lining, decreasing the possibility of the formation of cysts.

Colloidal Silver is a supplments that some people have had success with helping out cysts, but it is not medically proven. This will preclude the formation of cysts.

Great Ideas and Tips For a Rainbow Tea Party

A Rainbow Tea Party is a celebration of God’s promises to us. Colors are used to symbolize each of these promises. We have lots of ideas for you in planning your Rainbow Tea Party as well as suggestions for supplies to help make your tea party a fun, successful event!

First, it’s important to understand the significance of each color:

  • RED-Christ’s precious blood (the greatest gift)
  • BLACK-Sin/death/night
  • WHITE-Christ’s purity / God’s grace
  • GREEN-new growth – being reborn as a Christian – renewal
  • PURPLE-the royalty of Christ the King; Prince of Peace
  • BLUE-dawn of new Day
  • YELLOW-Fear – as it relates to the awe of God. Can also represent sunrise / rebirth
  • ORANGE – sunset – closure of one day into the next

If it’s for children, there is also a “Jellybean Prayer” that goes along with the colors of the rainbow. The meanings are also Christian, but a little simpler for children to understand.

Decorating your table for a Rainbow Tea Party

You don’t need to spend a lot of money to make your table look great. Use these ideas and add your imagination as you brainstorm with your team.

Table Cover – pick up a few yard of solid-color fabric OR even a plastic table cover from the Dollar Store (plastic ones tend to be thin, so purchase a few and layer).

  • Centerpiece – you want height and drama here to draw people to your table. Select a tall vase, jar, garden container or a styrofoam cone as the base. This can even be something your team already has at home. Be creative and think out of the box! Most rainbow tea parties select a winner for the best table, so creativity is key. Fill containers with natural or silk flowers, even tissue paper flowers or bows tied on the ends of chenille sticks work great. Insert your flowers into a styrofoam cone or balls stacked smallest to largest, covering completely. Tall, clear vases can be filled with gumballs, candies, fruit, etc. in your color. You can also wrap boxes in solid-color gift wrap and stack them as a reminder of the gifts we received from God (glue together to prevent tumbling).
  • Tulle is cheap and plentiful in a rainbow of colors. Use it to drape swags around your table, tie bows on the four corners, tuck into baskets of goodies, etc. Battery-operated lights look heavenly wrapped it tulle: use them to wrap around bases of your centerpiece or string behind the tulle in the front of your table edge.
  • Display your items (especially if you’re selling items as a fundraiser with the rainbow tea party) with some pizzazz. Colored plastic bowls, Chinese take-out gift boxes, even inverted frisbees can hold your items. Small, plastic storage totes come in every color imaginable. Tuck paper napkins your solid color down into baskets with matching bows.

Food and Drink

Luckily, fruits, veggies, and candies come in just about every color of the rainbow! Yellow offers lemons, squash, tomatoes, peppers. Purple gives you grapes, eggplant, berries, cabbage. Red can be found in strawberries, cherries, tomatoes. Black and blue are the tough ones, but a drop of food coloring added to a dish as well as candies can help get the creative juices flowing.

Keep an open mind as you peruse the produce section of the supermarket when planning your menu. Also, most cereals come in a multitude of color choices which makes cereal/marshmallow treats a snap. Cupcakes and cookies are easily colored with sprinkles and icing to match. Check the local craft supply store for colored chocolate melts, perfect for dipping pretzels, nuts, fruits, etc. as well as making chocolate pops with a plastic mold.

The Most Common Symptoms of Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth pops up when one is around 17 years old. Sometimes called “third molars”, one can have four wisdom teeth, but there are individuals who don’t have any. The main problem with them is that they grow even when there is insufficient space in the jaw for them. Thus the teeth become impacted and this eventually gives rise to problem such as gum infections and tooth decay. Below are some symptoms related to this set of teeth.

Pain: A wayward wisdom tooth may cause pericoronities (a localised infection) to arise around the problem area. This causes pain.

Irritation: Because of space constaint, wisdom teeth may get trapped. The end result is irritation and a feeling of uneasiness.

Sour Throat and Nausea: When pericoronitis spreads, be prepared for sour throat or nausea.

Fever: Body temperature can rise and fatigue sets in, no thanks to pericoronities.

Difficulty in Swallowing: One of the most common symptoms of wisdom teeth problems is difficulty in opening the jaw and swallowing.

Pus: Infection around the wisdom tooth may cause pus to form near the gum.

Facial Swelling: Swelling of the face, throat and ear may occur when the teeth erupted at certain angles. But the swelling could be due to worsened pericoronitis also.

Lymphs glands swells: Patients may feel pain in the throat. This is because the impacted teeth had caused havoc on the lymph glands under the jaw.

Gum inflammation: When the wisdom tooth erupts, the gum may become inflamed.

Cysts or Tumor: Cysts or tumors may form around impacted wisdom teeth, but such an occurrence is quite rare.

Difficulties in brushing: If you experience difficulties in flossing and brushing, it is highly possible that your wisdom tooth is rearing its ugly head.

Chewing problems: Impacted wisdom tooth may eventually lead to ulcers in the mouth. When that happens, chewing becomes a Herculean task.

Pain, oh, pain: Besides pain in your jaw, be prepared for headaches as well.

Foul mouth: Infected wisdom teeth can cause bad breath.

Forces Fitness – Royal Marines

Forces fitness, it’s A State Of Mind, the official slogan of the Royal Marines but around camp you may here “Train Hard, Fight Easy”. I’ll give you an insight of one day in the Royal Marines that you have to complete before even getting to Lympstone. This is to test your mental aptitude, physical endurance and ultimately the essential quality of indefatigability. Forces fitness at its best.

Up at the crack of Dawn and a nice cold shower to start the day with a boot of an instructor up your arse to make you motor and get outside dressed ready to march to scran ( that’s food by the way ).

They tell you to eat but you don’t feel like it because of nerves so you force it down anyway, then back to the block to give it a good scrub and check yourself over ready for inspection. If you or the block isn’t up to standard ( which you never are ) then get down and kiss the floor because your doing press ups and you do at there pace together. After the cleaning and beasting for being average muster outside for some real physical tests.

Forces fitness starts with the mile and a half squad run at a fairly easy pace to get you warmed up, then your off on your own for the 1.5 miles in under 10 mins or your best effort and boy do they want to see it. After everyone has finished its a short jog back to the camp ready for the swim. After doing press ups in the changing rooms for being to loud and slow we went out to the pool. In groups of 6 we swam a full length out then back 1/4 of the way to tread water for 2 mins before swimming back and pulling ourselves out of the pool. 2 minutes can feel a long time but if you keep relaxed then you’ll be fine. I was surprised at how many people struggled with this and were dragged out of the water by the hoop.

More lectures followed after the swim then we hit the gym, a Bleep Test to start after a brief warm up where you had to achieve level 12 upwards, 60 press ups in 2 mins hitting your partners fist with your chest and your back straight, 60 sit ups in 2 mins with your finger tips on the side of your head touching your knees with your elbows and 6 pull ups done to the instructor telling you when to bend and stretch. All this was done with a few extra press ups and shuttle runs for not being quick enough and not listening to orders, if one person messes up you all get it.

After the gym it was time for some well deserved lunch and boy are you hungry. After feeding yourself up you had a couple more lectures where your trying to keep yourself awake then down to the bottom field that so many people dreaded on camp and why? We were about to find out.

It started pretty relaxed, the instructors joking and showing us how to attack the assault course and heck how we were with heights and ropes, then they hit us first a full length around the assault course as a team, then as individuals, after completing it the second time I was blown out but we hadn’t finished. We were beasted up and down this hill crawling in the mud doing burpees, press ups anything they could think of to push us to destruction, they called it last man standing, now I knew what the bottom field was, after a good 30mins of this most of us could hardly walk they stopped and we jogged back to a shower block to get our overalls off and shower before the final lecture and find out our fate if we made it or not.

This was just one day of the PRMC to test your ability to see if you have what it takes to get your Green Beret.

Forces fitness is different to civilian fitness in the gyms so be prepared.

Maca Root Powder For Sexual Enhancement

What is Maca? Maca is a plant which is cultivated in the Junin Plateau in the Central Highlands of Peru at an altitude above 12,000 feet. It is principally grown by the Quechua Indians that are native to that area. Maca produces a root similar to a radish or a turnip. The root of Maca is usually dried and stored, and will easily keep for several years without losing its potency.

The people of Peru have traditionally used the dried root of the Maca plant to increase mental alertness, physical endurance and stamina. However the most popular use has been to increase sexual desire in men and women, as well as an aid to men with erectile dysfunction. It is also reputed to increase fertility. Healthy men who take Maca have also been shown to have increased semen volume, sperm counts and improvements in sperm motility.

Maca is currently gaining in popularity for precisely these properties and is contained in many sexual supplements. These types of supplements are selling well as people discover for themselves the power of Maca to boost libido, sexual function and overall energy. The amount of Maca being cultivated in Peru is therefore increasing each year to meet the newly created demand from the West.

Maca contains approximately 10 percent protein, 60 percent carbohydrate and assorted fatty acids. But the components responsible for Maca’s libido boosting properties are the macamides and the macaenes. Additionally, Maca root powder has a high concentration of zinc, magnesium, calcium and iron. These minerals are thought to contribute to the effects of Maca.

According to some sources Maca is a general tonic for people that may be lacking in energy possibly due to a nutritional deficiency. The action of Maca in boosting their energy is the same reason that their sexual desire and potency is also increased – because of an increase in general well being and energy. After all, Maca is a highly nutritious food source and so will have an overall beneficial effect on health and energy, as well as boosting the immune system.

Maca has also been used for medicinal purposes. In addition to its libido-enhancing properties it has been used to treat such conditions as arthritis, bronchitis and stomach cancer. It is also helpful to women suffering from PMT and menopause. For those looking to start a family Maca has been known to increase the chances of getting pregnant. According to some it is also useful as a mental stimulant taken prior to an exam.

Maca’s benefits have been attributed to its effect on the endocrine system. However studies have shown that it does not noticeably boost any specific hormone levels. It has been theorised therefore that Maca improves the utilisation by the body of existing hormones by increasing the effectiveness of hormone receptors.

When purchasing a Maca powder or capsule product it is important to know that there are major variances in quality. There is a huge amount of inferior grade Maca which has been grown at lower altitudes by entrepreneurs trying to cash in on the current popularity of Maca.

Lepidium Meyenii is the overall botanical name of the Maca group. The high quality product is known as Lepidium Peruvianum Chacon. This is the only one to contain 4 essential alkaloids of the traditional medicinal plant, missing in the common Meyenii plant of lower altitudes.

When trying Maca, ensure that you take sufficient quantities to get the results you desire. You can’t really overdo it with Maca. It is an herb and not a drug. Don’t expect results overnight but if you are willing to take it over a few months you will definitely notice a difference in your general energy level as well as in the bedroom.

The Difference Between Inlays-Onlays and Dental Crowns

Inlays, onlays and crowns are all part of what dentists term “indirect restorations.” Veneers and bridges are also considered indirect restorations. Fillings are an example of “direct restorations.”

Crowns (sometimes called “caps”) cover the entire tooth, including the sides. Crowns are meant to function like natural teeth and are used to shape, size and strengthen natural teeth as well as enhance their appearance.

Dentists use crowns when a tooth has been weakened by decay, is cracked, severely worn, or missing altogether.

· Crowns can hold a bridge in place when they’re placed over the teeth next to the gap

· They give a new surface to misshapen and/or extremely discolored teeth

· When a tooth with a large filling has very little tooth remaining, crowns are used to cover and provide support to the remaining tooth

· A crown can be attached to a dental implant and used to fill the gap left by a missing tooth

Crowns can be made from:

· All porcelain (ceramic)

· Porcelain fused to metal

· Gold alloy

The material is chosen according to where in the mouth the crown will be placed and on the patient’s budget. Temporary crowns, made by the dentist in his or her office for the patient to use while waiting on the permanent crown to come back from the lab are generally made from acrylic or stainless steel.

Inlays & Onlays

These are both types of fillings, and are made from porcelain. Inlays are not as large as crowns or onlays, fitting snugly within a tooth’s contours (cusps). They are custom made and then affixed permanently into a prepared cavity with dental cement.

Onlays cover some, but not the entire, chewing surface of the tooth and do not cover the entire tooth like a crown.

Both inlays and onlays are stronger than standard fillings, because they are bonded (cemented) to the tooth. Amalgam fillings are not cemented to the tooth, but are packed into the cavity. Being made of metal, they contract and expand in response to substances put in the mouth. This puts destructive pressure on the tooth, weakening it. By contrast, inlays and onlays hold the tooth together, strengthening it and prolonging its life.

Custom Fits Mean at Least Two Visits

Inlays, onlays and crowns are all made from a mold that is sent to a dental laboratory where the actual items are created. They’re custom made and require at least two visits to the dentist’s office: once for the mold to be taken, and then again to have the item(s) fitted.

All Materials Have Pros & Cons

The materials used to create these indirect restorations have their advantages and their disadvantages. While an all-porcelain restoration offers beautifully natural features, porcelain can fracture (crack) and also cause wear against opposing teeth if its surface is allowed to roughen. Gold alloys are extremely strong and durable; however, the metallic appearance is far from the natural look most people desire.

Knowledge Helps

Crowns, inlays and overlays vary in their uses, the materials from which they are made and in their pricing. Learning more about these differences can help you and your dentist decide which is best for you.

What’s the Return on Investment (ROI) on a Physical Therapy EMR Anyway?

If you’re a PT, OT or SLP who runs your own private practice and considering a physical therapy EMR, you can actually see how much ROI an EMR can generate for your private practice. They’re easy to find online searching under physical therapy ROI calculator.

What Makes One EMR Different From Another?

There are many physical therapy EMR options available in the market. Picking the solution that’s right for your practice doesn’t have to be a daunting task. During your search, it’s important to always stay focused on the needs of your practice, not the software. Using an online ROI calculator and simply inputting numbers like your average monthly visits, average net revenue per visit, annual revenue, number of unpaid claims, billing cost per claim, percent of appointment reminders reaching your customers successfully and the number of no-shows and cancellations into the calculator can really help you see the potential benefits of going from paper to electronic can really be. In fact, electronic medical records are quickly becoming the way of the near future. In most cases, switching to a physical therapy EMR produces positive results.

Improve Revenue

Physical therapy software improves revenue and collections by allowing providers to instantly submit claims and receive status updates in real-time via bi-directional clearing house integration. There are physical therapy EMR systems out there that automatically capture every billable treatment directly from the PT documentation, so therapists always have the support for a denied claim should one occur. Through this automated process, organizations have increased their charges by as much as 10-20 percent. Therapy practice solution can also alert you when a patient approaches their authorized treatment limit and display a patient’s referral status before each visit. All these functions of an EMR can significantly help improve revenue in your practice.

Reduce No-Shows and Cancellations

With private practice facilities currently averaging 12-18 percent no-shows and cancellations per year, appointment system reminders are emerging as a way to reduce or eliminate them all together. Your current automated reminder system could be costing as much as $.25/reminder. Manual calls take up staff time and are costly as well. There are some physical therapy scheduling software programs out there that can automatically send text, phone or email reminders to patients and are including at no additional cost. Make sure you go with a software solution that offers automated reminders at no cost – there really is such a thing.

Keep Your Referring Physicians Happy

Physical therapy EMR systems can also help you keep your referring physicians satisfied. Many EMR solutions out there are designed to strengthen relationships with referring physicians and ultimately help grow your practice. The nice thing some practice management solutions feature are instant one-page summary plan of care reports that provide referring physicians with information on their patient’s treatment, which are commonly sent by fax or a secure online portal – all before the patient even leaves the office.

How Many Alternative Solutions Should Be Considered in the Decision Making Process?

The short answer is seven. If you need more information to decide if this is valid, read on…

The problem of too few options being considered in decision making

During my career I cannot tell you the number of times that I have been in a strategy decision meeting where there was a long set of slides to review two or three alternative solutions for what was often a multi-million dollar decision. I found myself working hard to stay engaged with the presenter as my background conversation was screaming” Did you consider possibility A, or option B, or…? Often the decision team had initially considered many options, and they were only providing the information and rationale for the final selection from a shortened list.

So often it seemed that had the presentation started with a quick summary of all the alternatives considered, we would have had better engagement from the review team. Most people like to see that their favorite solution was at least considered. It also can avoid the meeting disaster of going through an hour review, and at the end, having an experienced member of the review team ask if they had considered a clearly viable option that becomes evident was overlooked. This wastes everyone’s time and requires the analysis to be updated and a new review meeting scheduled.

Most decisions have many viable alternatives, even to the extent that low value decisions, such as what kind of coffee should I choose, can become burdensome. Certainly we should expect that, when choosing something such as a car or a house (the most expensive personal purchase that many of us will make), that there should be more than two options. How many? Our recommendation is five to nine, or on average, seven.

Why is seven (plus or minus two) the right number of alternative solutions to consider?

This is a sometimes called a “magical number” as the result of a highly cited article by cognitive psychologist, George A. Miller (Miller 1956). In his article Miller observed that seven, plus or minus two, is the number of items that a typical human can hold in working memory in the context of several experiments performed in the 1950’s.

Further work has shown that seven is not a firm number, but the implication of this work is that our cognitive limitations would suggest limiting the number of alternatives for a single decision. Our experience has shown that seven (plus or minus two) provides a good target that keeps analysis and understanding in a range that works well for most people. In addition, high value decisions were often limited to two choices (A or B) even though there were many innovative alternatives that could have significantly improved the outcome.

The bottom line with respect to an effective decision making process is to:

  1. Avoid tunnel vision with too few alternatives. There are decisions were a small number of alternative solutions are appropriate, but make sure you are not rushing to judgment. You can innovate to create new alternatives for most high value decisions.
  2. Avoid analysis paralysis with too many options. Everything will slow down as the decision options begin to exceed our ability to keep track of them. More than nine options should start raising a flag.

How to address having too many alternative solutions

Generally, with the overwhelming amount of information that is available, in most decisions you will find that you are contending with too many alternatives. A recent example I encountered was when I was trying to make a selection for a digital camera. At one website I visited, I was presented with an initial selection possibility of over 5,000 cameras! Over 5,000 alternatives were available for what I expected to be about a $200 decision.

Here are some ways to reduce the set of alternatives to our suggested number (5 to 9).

  • Use key criteria to quickly eliminate options that are not viable. As an example, you can use a key feature to eliminate alternatives that are missing that feature.
  • Identify a higher level decision that can be used to eliminate large blocks of alternatives. In our digital camera example, choosing the primary use for the camera can reduce the number of options by a factor of four.
  • Reframe your decision to change scope. You may need to make a category or strategy decision to eliminate large numbers of alternatives.
  • Combine options that have minor differences. You can use decision criteria to find options that do not have differences that will be important in the selection. Combine those options to reduce analysis.

Finding The Best Cold Sore Medication – Abreva Vs Prescription Treatments

The internet offers mixed reviews on many of the dozens of cold sore medications on the market today, ranging from statements like “my cold sore was gone in two hours” to “this stuff made it worse!” Some cold sore medications obviously have a better track record than others, but it can be difficult to find the perfect remedy for that annoying and embarrassing cold sore. The biggest factor that will contribute to the effectiveness of your chosen cold sore remedy is noting the stage at which the cold sore has developed when the first treatment is applied to the site. Any cold sore sufferer knows that the best way to treat a cold sore is to nip it in the bud as soon as possible. Once blisters begin to form, you may be out of luck if you are not using the right cold sore medication. I am a frequent cold sore sufferer who has tried almost every home remedy and cold sore medication on the market. In this article I am going to compare two of the most popular cold sore medications: Abreva, the only FDA approved over the counter medication and Zovirax, an FDA approved prescription medication.

Abreva can be purchased in almost any drug-store for $16-$20. Right off the bat, it is important to note that you won’t get much for what you pay. The medicine is in a tiny 2 gram (.07 ounce) tube that is barely an inch long. I have seen many good (and many bad) reviews of Abreva, and my opinion falls somewhere in-between. Healing a cold sore quickly with Abreva is hit-or-miss. I have learned that if I liberally apply Abreva almost every hour as soon as I feel any burning or tingling, it does help tremendously and there is 90% chance that I will avoid a full blown breakout. Often, if caught at that stage, the blisters will simply not develop. However, if I don’t have any when the tingling begins, or I wake up to find that the blisters have already begun to form, the cold sore will generally run its course, lasting 9-10 days regardless of how much I continue to apply. It really is important to apply Abreva immediately upon feeling any tingling or pain. Even an hour can make a big difference.

Zovirax (Aciclovir):

Let me just say that I absolutely love Zovirax and I regret all the years I suffered with cold sores, spending hours researching home remedies and over-the-counter products, when a simple call to the doctor for a prescription was the answer. It is truly a life-saver when it comes to cold sores. Whether it is applied at the first signs of a cold sore or even after bumps and blisters have begun to form, it will zap my cold sore in 24-48 hours. In addition, it does not “dry out” the cold sores which many medications do; shrinking the blisters, but leaving a very hard scab that cracks and bleeds. Zovirax also has something in it to relieve pain and itching. In most cases, if Zovirax is applied during the tingling stage the cold sore does not develop (like Abreva). If it is applied after blisters have formed, it shrinks the blisters overnight and relieves all the redness and irritation surrounding the sore. I have never had a cold sore for more than three days when using Zovirax. The one down-side to using this medication is the cost. A 5 gram tube of Zovirax retails at about $120.00 and is subject to a higher co-pay with insurance because there is no generic equivalent available yet.

Diabetes Mellitus – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Diabetes mellitus is a medical condition in which the capacity to produce insulin in the body is marginally or significantly reduced. Because of this condition, glucose uptake by the body cells becomes deficient, and blood sugar levels increase. Type 1 diabetic patients produce little or no insulin, and hence need insulin injections to control their blood sugar. Type 2 diabetic patients can control their blood sugar with a combination of diet, weight management, exercise and glucose-lowering medications.

Diabetes mellitus is known in Ayurveda as “Madhumeha”. Ayurveda describes the pathology of this disease as resulting from a disturbed “Meda, Kleda and Kapha”. It is believed that all the body tissues lose their vitality because of this condition.

Type 1 diabetic patients who are dependent on insulin injections should monitor their blood sugar and continue the injections regularly. Type 2 diabetic patients may be able to control their blood sugar with Ayurvedic medicines and other measures like diet restrictions and weight control.

Traditional Ayurvedic formulations useful in diabetes are: Arogya Vardhini, Vasant Kusumakar Rasa, Chandraprabha Vati, Prameha Gaja Kesari, Lodhrasava, Khadirarishta, Jambvasava, Trivanga Bhasma, and Suvarna Makshik Bhasma. Herbal medicines useful in this condition are: Haridra (Curcuma longa), Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Karela (Momordica charantia), Saptakapi (Casearia esculenta), Musta (Cyperus rotundus), Daruharidra (Berberis aristata), Arjuna (Terminalia arjuna), Khadeer (Acacia catechu), Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Patol (Trichosanthe dioica), Vata (Ficus bengalensis), Udumbar (Ficus glomerata), Jamun (Syzygium cumini), Bilwa (Aegle marmelos) , Gudmar (Gymnema sylvestre), Methi (Trigonella foenum-graecum), Asana (Pterocarpus marsupium),Shilajit (Purified Bitumen) and Kumbha (Leucas cephalotes).

Most of the herbal medicines mentioned above reduce blood sugar gradually, and stimulate the body to secrete insulin on its own. These medicines also act on the “Meda” and “Kapha” tissues, reduce “Kleda”, and restore body vitality. Thus they act on the basic pathology of this disease. Taken for long periods, these medicines may help to reverse the disease process in diabetes, and give long lasting relief, or sometimes, even a permanent cure. Unlike modern medicines, medical emergencies like hypoglycemia (a sudden lowering of blood sugar) are not seen with the use of herbal medicines.

Long-term complications of diabetes include diseases related to the eyes, nerves, kidneys, heart, brain, intestines, sexual organs, skin and feet. Ayurvedic medicines are very effective in preventing or significantly reducing symptoms related to these complications, and are useful in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Ayurvedic medicines used specially for this are: Tapyadi Loha, Kaishor Guggulu, Agni Tundi Rasa, Vish Tinduk Vati, Kanchnaar Guggulu, Trayodashang Guggulu, Ekanga Veer Rasa, Vaat Gajankush Rasa and Amalaki (Emblica officinalis).

Thus, Ayurvedic medicines are useful both for reducing blood sugar and for treating long-term complications. These medicines can be used independently or as additional therapy to modern medicines. Ayurvedic treatment can significantly reduce the morbidity (severity of disease) and mortality (death rate) associated with diabetes mellitus.
