What Is Aspiration?

Hundreds of times a week patients ask me, or our other patient educators, what clinics mean when clinics advertise the “aspiration procedure.” Currently this is one of the most misunderstood terms in the abortion providers’ world.

The term aspiration for doctors simply refers to any medical procedure where fluid or air is removed from the body cavity using suction.

Based on this definition, almost all abortion procedures performed in the US between 5 and 12 weeks into the pregnancy are considered aspiration procedures. The most common of these procedures, most common referred to in marketing and educational materials as the Surgical Abortion, is an aspiration procedure which uses an electrically powered vacuum machine to produce the suction required to remove the pregnancy tissue from the uterus. Although this sounds cold, clinical and a bit frightening the amount of suction generated is actually very minimal. It is similar to suction used by the dentist to remove extra saliva from a patient’s mouth during a dental exam.

However, recently many abortion providers have begun to offer what they are calling a safer “non surgical aspiration” procedure as a better alternative to the usual surgical option. This is actually a misrepresentation of what the procedure being offered actually is.

What is being offered is actually still a surgical procedure. It does not use curettage, or scraping, but neither does the vacuum aspiration procedure commonly called the surgical abortion. In both cases a thin tube, called a cannula, is passed through the cervix in order to remove the pregnancy tissue. The difference is in how the suction is produced during the procedure.

In the Manual Vacuum Aspiration Procedure (MVP), often advertised as simply the Aspiration procedure, the suction required is generated manually using a syringe – like device. It creates similar of gentle suction as the electrically powered vacuum machine.

The Manual Vacuum Aspiration Procedure was developed in the 1960s as part of the Feminist Women’s’ Health Movement originally for menstrual extraction, a means of removing a woman’s period bleeding all at one time. It was also used as a means of early abortion before abortion became legal in the in 1973.

Because MVP can be performed without general anesthesia and without the need for electricity it has been particularly important in providing abortion access to the developing world. The US provided thousands of MVP kits to countries in African, South American, and East Asia until 1973 when anti abortion lobbyists put a stop to it.

This practice of MVP, clocked under the guise of menstrual regulation, still exists and is supported in Nations where abortion is illegal.

“In Bangladesh, for example, although abortion is illegal the government has long supported a network of menstrual regulation clinics. Some other countries allow menstrual regulation because it presumably takes place without a technical verification of pregnancy,” according to Carol Joffe, an expert in the field.

It wasn’t until the mid 1990’s that the US started to show renewed interest in the Manual Aspiration Procedure as an alternative to electric vacuum aspiration.

Common Causes of Cellulitis

Natural flora of our body includes some types of bacteria. These bacteria thrive inside and outside the human body without causing harm if they stay in their rightful place and maintain normal numbers. In some instances, we accidentally acquire cuts and breaks in the skin that causes unwanted skin openings. These cuts or scrapes allow some of the body’s external natural flora to enter the outer layer of the skin and move inward to infect the deepest skin layer. This is what happens in cellulitis.

Cellulitis is skin disease that may appear in different parts of the body. The bacteria responsible for this skin disease are usually the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Group A Streptococcus. Both causes of cellulitis play a role in the different types of cellulitis such as facial cellulitis, breast cellulitis, orbital cellulitis, periorbital cellulitis, hand/arm cellulitis, perianal cellulitis and lower leg/foot cellulitis.

These two causes of cellulitis act differently once inside the body. The Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci rapidly spread under the skin and produces enzymes that break down cells thereby allows non-localized infection. Staphylococci infection on the other hand is more localized and often occurs upon entry through an open wound.

Other microorganisms and underlying diseases may also be one of the causes of cellulitis. These microorganisms may enter the body through scrapes, cuts, wounds, blisters, insect bites and even ulcers and penetrates the skin layers. Tattoos and surgical wounds may also be entry points of cellulitis-causing bacteria. Some infection may even cause swelling to nearby lymph nodes and eventually spread infection through the blood.

– Hemophilus influenzae type B or Hib is a gram-negative and non-motile bacterium that used to rampantly cause cellulitis and other diseases especially in children. Since a vaccine for Hib has already been developed, cases of cellulitis caused by this type of bacteria have dramatically decreased.

– Clostridium perfringens is an anaerobic bacterium commonly found in soil, in marine sediments and is also a natural flora of the intestines. This bacterium causes anaerobic cellulitis. This is a localized infection that involves the skin and soft tissue and in rare cases may cause necrosis.

– Pasteurella multocida is a bacterium included in the causes of cellulitis from animal bites. This bacterium is a resident of the upper respiratory tract in cats, dogs, and livestock. It may be passed on to a human though bites, scratches or even just their saliva. The cellulitis caused by this bacterium progresses rapidly and needs immediate medical care.

– Certain diseases may also lead to complications and be one of the causes of cellulitis.

Immunocompromised people or people with weak immune systems are easy targets for cellulitis-causing bacteria. Those with chronic skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis wherein the skin constantly has fresh wounds or openings may also easily acquire cellulitis if not careful. Same can be said with those who have athlete’s foot, fungal infection, diabetes and edema.

Cellulitis is commonly treated with antibiotics and may be relieved by antibiotic topical ointments. Doctor prescription and advice is needed before treatment. Severe cases of cellulitis are delat with in a hospital while mild cases may be treated at home.

How Many People Die From Cancer Each Year?

How many people die from cancer each year? If you have been wondering what the answer to this question is, you just found the right article.

Cancer continues to be a major disease for those in developed countries. The numbers for those that are dying of cancer in the world are increasing. 2007 was one of the last years recorded, and 7.9 million people died of cancer. That number is slated to increase to 11.5 million by the year 2030. For the developed countries, cancer is the second largest reason for death. Only heart disease beats cancer in killing people in the Western world and in those countries that are considered "modern". The World Health Organization says that forty percent of cancer can be prevented. They recommend avoiding tobacco, being obese, alcohol abuse, sexually transmitted diseases and carcinogens at the workplace. Lung cancer is the one type of cancer that kills the most people throughout the world. Tobacco is the culprit in this statistic.

The details for how many people die from cancer based on their country is not surprising. Two million in China are killed each year by cancer. Part of this is attributed to the increased urbanization and the adoption of Western diets. In the United Kingdom about 230,000 people die of cancer every year. An estimate of 17,000 of these people die of colon cancer and 6000 die of pancreatic cancer in the United Kingdom. One very sad statistic is that 3,000 people in the United States die every year just from second hand cigarette smoke. The total for every cancer death except nonmelanoma skin cancer in the United States is over 565,000 people. Lung cancer is first among the killer cancers in the United States. The unreported fact is that the invisible gas radon accounts for 21,000 lung cancer deaths each year for the United States.

In Australia, 12,000 people die of cancer every year. Skin cancer is a large part of that number. For Japan, over 336,000 people die in that country from cancer and most of these have lung cancer. In Pakistan, 85,000 die of cancer. In Brazil, over 25,000 die from this disease yearly. The killer disease we call cancer strikes around the world and is getting stronger by the day. Will the medical industry be able to rediscover the cure? Let's hope so. If not, maybe those who smoke tobacco will learn that it is quite literally killing them.

3 Game Ideas For Handicapped Children Or Adults

Everyone loves to feel pleasure and enjoyment through some medium. Games are one such a way to make people involved and provide them with relaxation. Just watching television or movies are not the only way for the enjoyment and leisure as you can not continue this forever and change is always required. Playing game is equally popular among children and adults, you are having a normal life or having some challenged life with some disability. The only difference is the selection of games as handicapped people have some limitations in their movements, therefore the games for them must have the scope acknowledging their limits. A paralyzed person is not necessarily having some mental disability so handicap people can easily utilize their mind and skills in interesting games and it can keep them busy and motivated.

Games are a positive activity which produces the sportsman spirit and strength to overcome and solve the issues. A game could be very smaller or basic but the important thing is learning and enjoyment and positive effects as a byproduct. If you have ever visited some nursing home or special education school then you may have noticed that they facilitate their members with games and therapies who are living or attending there. These provide them with learning, entertainment and stimulation of mind. There are many games which can be selected for the handicapped children or adults but we have found following three games much interested and adoptable;

Bananagrams: It is a word game in which letter tiles are used to spell the words and the object of the game is to arrange one's tiles faster than the opponent's and be the first to use all the unused tiles in the pool. It has the characteristics of Boggle and Scrabble both and can be played by the players of any reading level and age.

Yahtzee: Yahtzee is a dice game and it is a German name. The object of the game is to score the most points by rolling five dices to make certain combinations. The dice can be rolled up to three times (3) in a turn to try to make one of the thirteen possible scoring combinations. The scoring combinations have varying point values, some of which are fixed values and others of which have the growing value of the dice.

Card Games: Card games are played with a deck of cards and there are always two sides of a card, one the face and the back and the entire cards are of similar shape and size. There are penalty of games which can be played through these cards and each game starts with a deal where the cards have to be distributed among the players anticlockwise. The best of these card games is that there are multiple playing options and various games which can be played singularly or with multiple numbers of players. It involves calculations, mind simulation and interest which resultantly fill the players with joy and happiness. It is a good time pass as well.

Hypertension – Undetected and Deadly

Blood pressure is not a constant, there is always some variation depending on circumstances. Such things as exercise, driving through heavy traffic, caffeine and emotional strain can cause significant short term increases in blood pressure. Therefore blood pressure readings should be taken when in a relaxed state and if necessary a device can be worn which can measure blood pressure constantly during an extended period.

Once vascular changes have started to occur symptoms such as nausea, dizziness, palpitations, stroke, blindness from retinal damage, heart attacks edema and kidney failure can develop.

Diagnosis of Hypertension to ascertain the cause

Serial measurements of blood pressure over time, patient history, auscultation, opthalmoscopy, urinary analysis for protein levels blood tests for serum potassium, urea and creatinine together with ECG measurements Echocardiographs and X rays are all used to determine a cause.

Complications of high blood pressure

Heart failure, angina, heart attacks, stroke, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, kidney failure, hypertensive retinopathy, hypertensive encephalopathy and sudden death are all possible complications of severe untreated hypertension.

The first step should always be to institute lifestyle changes; managing stress levels, losing weight, stopping smoking and drinking, dietary changes, reducing salt intake and increasing exercise are mandatory.

The ideal diet includes; poultry, fish, whole grains, nuts, low fat dairy foods, fruit and vegetables. Fast foods should be avoided as they commonly contain high levels of salt to enhance taste. Similarly sweets and sugared drinks should be avoided and red meats should be strictly limited.

If lifestyle modifications do not reduce the hypertension, drug treatment should be instituted according to the severity of the condition.

In the last few years the body’s Redox (reduction/oxidation) balance has been extensively studied and there seems to be a good argument for looking at supplementation with cell signaling molecules to restore cell health before resorting to pharmaceuticals.

Traditional methods:

For stage 1 hypertension (140 – 159 systolic) or (90 to 99 diastolic) providing there is no evidence of major organ problems; diuretics, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers and angiotensin blockers can be used alone or in combination.

For stage 2 hypertension most patients receive combinations of drugs until the ideal medication levels are attained.

For hypertensive emergencies, injectable drugs such as vasodilators or adrenergic inhibitors are administered or sometimes oral drugs are used to rapidly bring the pressure down by about 25% without causing renal, cardiac or cerebral problems.

If detected early the prognosis is very good providing treatment is commenced before complications develop.

Ideally of course you should attempt to prevent hypertension in the first place.

Here are suggestions to ensure that you don’t become a statistic:

1. Maintain a normal weight

2. Reduce your salt intake to about 1.5g per day

3. Manage your stress levels

4. Stop smoking

5. Limit your alcohol intake

6. Increase your potassium levels – see your doctor first if you have heart or kidney disease

7. Exercise

8. Change to a healthy diet – limited red meat, low fat dairy food, vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, poultry, nuts, limited sweets and fast foods.

What Do You Know About Dog Epilepsy?

Have you ever seen a dog suffer from seizures? It happens to be a very sad sight, especially if you happen to be the dog owner. Typically, the first reaction one has is one of fear, probably because of lack of knowledge about what is happening to the dog. Following the fear comes the sensation of impotence and even desperation because of not knowing what to do to make it stop.

Although I have not found precise statistics about the disease in dogs, what is important probably to you is not how many dogs do suffer from epilepsy, but is this condition present in yours and what to do about it.

There are some important details that will most likely provide you with the basics of canine epilepsy and help you understand it better.

Let us first give you a simple definition: "Epilepsy is a condition of frequent or recurring seizures that are not of a system origin".

As in human epilepsy, the canine manifestation has been identified as a brain disorder. The results of this disorder are that the dog suffers from attacks that appear suddenly and are completely uncontrolled. There may be loss of consciousness or not, so it is important to remember that your dog may be having the seizure and you could, perhaps, not even be aware of it.

Two main reasons have been given for the condition: one is the genetic abnormalities and the other is, precisely, an unknown reason, called idiopathic. This last one is generally more identified with brain lesions of structural nature and is seen more frequently in male dogs.

If you happen to watch your dog appear frightened without any apparent reason, hiding and with a dazed look, it may be feeling what is known as an aura, or the preceding step to the seizure per se. The following is normally the full blown seizure, which is characterized by the dog falling on its side and becoming stiff. Other behaviors that usually take place are the salivation, urination or defecation, vocalization and paddling with the four legs. Thank God, the time period typically does not exceed 90 seconds.

Studies have found that when the onset of the disease takes place when the dog is younger, the severity of the disease will be elevated.

We explained before that there is an epilepsy of genetic origin, but there is another type that can have several origins, like just about anything that happens to induce damage to the right side of the dog's brain. Such events may include strokes, accidents the dog has suffered or sometimes, brain tumors.

We all know that our brains carry messages through electrochemical processes, which means that the chemicals in our body move in and out of the cells and establish an electrical current. Well, when the chemical signals in the dog's brain become excitatory, the result will be a seizure. Seizures may be of different "levels", ranging from mild to severe and in the latter case, may even produce the death of the dog.

Two types of seizures have been identified: the generalized and the focal. As to be expected, the generalized seizure affects the dog's entire body, but the focal type only affects a small part of the dog's brain and specific body parts.

Another important point to be aware of is the behavior the dog produces after the seizure, because many dog owners may be expecting their pet to recover immediately and go on its merry way as if nothing had happened. That is definitely not typically the case, although it may happen occasionally. The dog may show signs of confusion, it may pace aimlessly, have a marked increase in thirst or appetite, show disorientation, compulsion and may even be momentarily blind.

There are certain dog breeds that are more prone to show the disease and in some, the epilepsy runs in the family, especially those of genetic origin. Some of the breeds well known for being victims of epilepsy in this case are the Beagles, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Keeshonds, Belgian Tervurens, German Shepherds, Vizlas and Shetland Sheepdogs, although other breeds have also been known for showing the disease, the same being of a different origin, like the Cocker Spaniels, Irish Setters, Poodles, Miniature Schnauzers, St. Bernards, Wire Fox Terriers, Siberian Huskies and even some mixed breeds.

The diagnosis is extremely important in order to determine what cause of action is going to be taken by the veterinarian, so the dog owner has to be on the watch for any of the symptoms mentioned before. If the origin is one of idiopathic nature, such as a brain tumor, the removal of the same will be enough for the epilepsy to be a thing of the past in the dog's life, but if the disease has another cause, medication will be the only remedy, since in this case, it will not be able to be cured … just controlled. The veterinarian will be, of course, the only one to determine what medicines to administer, since not all dogs react the same way to some of them and develop a resistance to their effects. The dog owner should always keep a log of the seizures in order to show the doctor the progression and frequency of the same. That will help him or her to continue with the proper administration and dosage.

Since all good dog owners want the same for their dogs; that is, health and happiness, it is important to remember that having a sick dog, or one who suffers from a condition like epilepsy, does not mean in the least that it is less of a companion. Care and love should be administered just the same you would with a loved human being in your family. The enjoyment of the animal will be the same if you give it what it gives you unconditionally and all the time.

Stroke Is No Longer a Disease of Old Age

… It was a day, just like any other day, when Armenouhi (a fictitious name of a patient), a 38-year-old housewife set down to have dinner with her husband and five year old child. Suddenly, she felt the most excruciating severe headache she had ever experienced. She asked her husband for her high blood pressure pill. Her hand just did not feel right. After a few minutes, she tried to get up but had trouble bearing weight on her right lower limb, she turned to her spouse and tried to tell him what was happening, but the words could not come out right. Her husband went to call 911 and upon his return found Armenouhi on the floor, unconscious …

A. What is a stroke or "brain attack"? A stroke, or brain attack, is caused by the sudden loss of blood flow to the brain or bleeding inside the head. Each can cause brain cells to stop functioning or die. When nerve cells in the brain die, the function of body parts they control is harmed or lost. Depending on the part of the brain affected, people can lose speech, feeling, muscle strength, vision, or memory. Some people recover completely; others are seriously disabled or die.

B. How common is it? Every year, about 700,000 people in the United States suffer a stroke. That's about one person every 45 seconds. And one person dies from stroke every 3 minutes, or nearly 170,000 a year. This means stroke is the nation's number three killer after heart disease and cancer. It is the major cause of adult disability. The cost of stroke in the US is between $ 30 and $ 40 billion per year.

C. What are the symptoms? Stroke symptoms may not be as dramatic or painful as a heart attack. but the results can be just as life-threatening. Stroke is an emergency. Get medical help immediately and know when the symptoms started. Common symptoms include:

o Sudden numbness or weakness of face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body

o Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding speech

o Sudden difficulty seeing in one or both eyes

o Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination

o Sudden severe headache with no known cause

D. How is it diagnosed?

o Neurological exam

o Neuropsychological evaluation, to examine how well the brain is working when it performs certain functions, such as remembering, problem solving, processing information. It is also used to document areas of weaknesses and strengths.

o Brain imaging tests (CT, or computerized tomography scan; MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging) to understand the type, location, and extent of the stroke

o Tests that show blood flow and bleeding sites (carotid and transcranial ultrasound and angiography)

o Blood tests for bleeding or clotting disorders

o EKG (electrocardiogram) or an ultrasound examination (echocardiogram) of the heart to identify cardiac sources of blood clots that could travel to the brain

The good news is, about 50% of all strokes can be prevented through medical attention and simple lifestyle changes.

A How can I personally prevent it? Some risk factors, such as age (stroke risk factors doubles with each decade past age 55), sex (males have slightly higher stroke risk, than females), race (African-Americans have double the stroke risk of most other racial groups), and a history of stroke in the family, can not be changed. However, many others can be controlled. Most controllable factors relate to the health of the heart and blood vessels. Doing these things can help you prevent a stroke:

o Have regular medical check-ups

o Control high blood pressure

o Do not smoke- and stop if you do

o Treat heart disease, especially an irregular heart beat called "atrial fibrillation"

o Improve your diet: Avoid excess fat, salt, and alcohol

o Exercise

o Manage diabetes

o Seek immediate medical attention for warning signs

B. How can medicine prevent it? Some people are at risk for stroke because of known health factors, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Also, having had a stroke puts you at greater risk of another attack. Fortunately for people in these situations, there are medical treatments that can help prevent stroke:

1) Antiplatelets and anticoagulants. Doctors can prescribe antiplatelet medications (such as aspirin) and anticoagulants (such as warfarin) to reduce the blood's ability to form clots.

2) Angioplasty and stents To remove blockages, doctors may thread a balloon angioplasty through a major vessel in the leg or arm to reach the affected vessel. A steel screen called a "stent" is sometimes inserted in a vessel to expand its diameter and improve blood flow.

3) Carotid endarterectomy In this surgical procedure, a blockage is removed from the carotid artery in the neck.

Once the doctor completes the diagnostic tests, the treatment is chosen. For all stroke patients, the aim is to prevent further brain damage. If the stroke is caused by blocked blood flow to the brain, treatment could include:

o t-PA (tissue plasminogen activator), a clot-busting drug that is injected within three hours of the start of a non-bleeding stroke

o Drugs that thin the blood, including anticoagulants (warfarin) and antiplatelet medications (aspirin or ticlopidine); a combination of aspirin and sustained release dipyridamole

o Surgery that opens the insides of narrowed neck blood vessels (carotid endarterectomy)

If bleeding causes the stroke, treatment could include:

o Drugs that maintain normal blood clotting

o Surgery to remove blood in the brain or decrease pressure on the brain

o Surgery to fix the broken blood vessels

o Blocking off bleeding vessels by inserting a coil

o Drugs that prevent or reverse brain swelling

o Inserting a tube into a hollow part of the brain to lower pressure

After a stroke, a person may have some disability. The disability depends on the size and location of the stroke. The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body; in right-handed individuals it is important for attention and visual-spatial skills. The left side of the brain controls the right side of the body; in right-handed individuals (and 50 percent of left-handed people) it controls language – speaking and understanding. Language disorders are also called "aphasias."

Rehabilitation helps regain functions lost from damage due to stroke. During rehabilitation, most people will get better. However, many do not recover completely. Unlike skin cells, nerve cells that die do not recover and are not replaced by new cells. However, the human brain is adaptable. People can learn new ways of functioning, using undamaged brain cells.
This rehabilitation period is often a challenge. The patient and family work with a team of physical, occupational, and speech therapists, along with nurses and doctors. Most of the improvement will take place in the first three to six months of the process. But some people can make excellent progress over longer periods.

5 Health Benefits of Taking Omega 3 Pills

Taking omega 3 pills on a regular basis will benefit your health. omega 3 pills are supplements that contain omega 3 essential fatty acids. Usually, omega 3 pills are made with fish oil. Fish oil is known to contain high amounts of DHA and EPA, two kinds of omega 3 essential fatty acids.

The body needs fat, but not just any kind of fat. Fish oil contains omega 3 that is a kind of polyunsaturated fatty acid. This is healthy fat that the body needs. Here are some of the benefits you can get from taking omega 3 pills daily.

Strong Heart

omega 3 is known to keep the heart healthy by lowering triglyceride levels. High triglyceride levels are associated with an increased risk for developing cardiovascular diseases like coronary artery disease. It also helps balance cholesterol levels.

omega 3 can also help lower blood pressure and slow down the development of atherosclerotic plaque in the blood vessels. It also promotes proper electrical conduction in the heart to effectively reduce the risk for abnormal heart rhythms. Taking omega 3 regularly also helps prevent stroke and heart attacks.

Bright Eyes

omega 3 also promotes healthy vision. In pregnant women, taking omega 3 supplements help with the development of the retina in the growing fetus.

Brain Function

Fish oil supplements that are high in omega 3 also benefit the brain. In fact, the gray matter of the brain contains high concentrations of DHA. DHA is essential in the proper development of the brain while in the womb and during the first years of life.

EPA, on the other hand, plays a role in the everyday functioning of the brain. Low omega 3 levels are actually associated with the increased incidence of ADHD, Alzheimer's disease, depression, dementia, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia.

Healthy Joints

omega 3 supplements are also of value in the management of arthritis. It is known to have an anti-inflammatory effect that makes it effective in alleviating symptoms of arthritis like swelling, pain, and immobility. It also promotes normal joint function.

Blood Sugar

omega 3 can also help in the regulation of blood sugar levels by stimulating secretion of insulin from the pancreas. This makes it valuable in the prevention and management of diabetes.

Fish oil supplements that contain omega 3 are truly essential. Just make sure you choose the right brand that contains only natural oil and has undergone a thorough purification process like molecular distillation.

Keep in mind that good sources of omega 3 are fatty fish like hoki, salmon, tuna, and mackerel so the oil should be extracted from these kinds of fish.

Health Conditions Chiropractors Can Address

When individuals feel something unusual in their body, may it be a simple pain in the back, the neck or perhaps the lower body, they usually opt for over-the-counter drugs to treat the pain. Over-the-counter drugs can certainly relieve pains individuals feel. Unfortunately, these drugs can only get rid of pain for a certain period of time. Skin Mites Cause Very Itchy Skin and Scalp

You do not have feel alone. Many people have millions of mites living in their hair and on their skin. These microscopic mites may be linked to intense itching, showers of flakes falling on the shoulders, white flakes in the eyebrows, thinning hair, acne, rosacea, and other skin conditions. "Most people do not like the idea of mites living in their hair or on their skin, and some get really bent out of shape just thinking about it, … and bathing will not wash them off" says Jerry Butler, professor of entomology, University of Florida.

Even though mites can be a very uncomfortable problem with disgusting symptoms, most people with whom we've spoken have never heard of the Demodex mite. It's estimated this mite lives in the hair follicles of 96-98% of people. This skin mite feeds on hormones, and fluids and oils around the hair follicles. Professor Butler has counted as many as 25 mites in a single hair follicle. A surge in the mite population on someone's skin can cause a variety of very unsightly and uncomfortable problems. "When something causes the mites to reproduce at a higher rate, they can break out of the hair follicle and may cause acne, hair loss, and skin conditions. In some cases, the mites can cause the skin to actually slough off."

One sign of mite presence is the creation of port wine discolored areas of skin that appear after scratching in response to intense itching. Demodex mites are responsible for a lot of discomfort, but many physicians are not familiar with this mite and may state that there is no such thing. Veterinarians and ophthamologists, however, are quite familiar with these mites.

The mites feed continuously inside the hair follicle. They are microscopic, transparent like glass, and emerge at night which causes intense itching. Itching can be intense during daylight hours if the mite infestation is particularly severe. Three to five days are required for egg laying and hatching, followed by seven days for the larvae to develop into adults. Their total life span is approximately two to three weeks. They are transferred from host to host by contact, particularly in hair, eyebrows, and tiny sebaceous glands on the nose.

So, what do you do if these mites are making you miserable? One company in the USA is making a line of products that focuses specifically on demodex mite eradication without using toxic "drug like" ingredients. Visit the link below to purchase the products. Even a small amount of wax, wedged between the eardrum and ear canal wall can cause hearing loss from minor hearing loss to total deafness. Very hard Compacted earwax can cause earache by putting pressure on sensitive ear canal walls and ear drum. The ear also shares some of the same nerves as the throat, so an ear problem can cause discomfort in the throat, which could then lead to coughing.

What is Wax?

It is a sticky liquid secreted by the cerumen glands in the ear. This sticky substance is full of antibacterial and antifungal properties and it’s in your body to cleanse, hydrate and protect the ear canal.

If any foreign substances tries to invade your ear it traps it. Anything that flies, crawls or is blown into the ear canal can only travel in to the ear a very small way. The ear canal is also self-cleaning ejecting any foreign bodies.

From time to time some people do have problems with wax in their ears. It is then that people ask, “Which is the best home remedy treatment?

We have all been told to never put anything in our ears but lots of people use Q-tips to alleviate ear problems and symptoms. Ear buds are safe if used correctly and are safe to wipe the outer parts of the ear. But deeper use is potentially risky for 3 reasons.

First, there is a tendency to pack the ear wax down, which can cause a blockage.

Second, you can damage the eardrum if the probe is inserted too deeply.

Finally, if you cause a skin abrasion of the ear canal, it can lead to infection.

If you look to a doctor or nurse for help they will attempt to remove the problem wax by spraying hot water into the ear canal to wash out the wax. Or the may use some sort of suction to draw the wax out. As a last resort they will try to scoop the wax out with different medical instruments.

This will dry out the ear canal. This is said to be one of the most effective and safest ear wax removal home remedies.

Most home treatments, such as the one above and those below are very safe and highly effective. However, people with a history of middle ear infections, swimmer’s ear, or a hole in the eardrum shouldn’t use these remedies.
