Chasing Symptoms

Chasing Symptoms:

All of medical science is based on acute care not chronic care or long term issues. Under these circumstances it is good to chase a symptom to find what needs to be done to save a person’s life. Specific tests must be done to see where the human body systems are to make good decisions as to what must be done to save a life. These are all very good things to get all current symptoms under control.

On the other hand, chronic care is a whole different ball game. There may be many symptoms the body is displaying because there are a number of cell groups damaged that are causing the symptoms. You may have several systems that are not one hundred percent of God’s normal. There is of course man’s normal for the human body and there is God’s creation of the human body or God’s normal. If you only believe in man’s normal, how well has that worked out for you on chasing symptoms?

If you have ever taken any prescription medication, you will have found out that the medication sometimes will create more symptoms than the one you were trying to control. This is because medication is not recognized as natural or positive food to repair cells that are causing the symptoms. Man’s science has proven that everything on earth vibrates. Negative vibrations that hurt man and positive that feed man. That is because it is created to do so; created by the creator. All of the food on earth was created to nourish the human body and to give real medicine to heal it. Real medicine is God created without man having added or taken away anything from His creation. We need only God’s natural nutrients to supply vitamins and minerals to the body for maintaining and for prevention as they keep the immune system working in top shape to fight off all natural infestations that come against the human body. We need only God created natural positive vibrations to heal, not manmade negative frequencies.

So when the body gets any negative frequencies, either manmade or God created, not intended for food or medicine, it will create a negative reaction in the human body or can even kill you. For food to be healthy for us, it has to be God created only, having no man-made frequencies added such as genetically modified food. All food and water were created to give us positive energy to heal and grow. Much of our water and food today require the body to use more energy to process the negative frequencies than it gives us as God intended. And we wonder why we are getting sicker and staying sicker longer?

Medical Definition of symptom: subjective evidence of disease or physical disturbance observed by the patient ; broadly: something that indicates the presence of a physical disorder.

What does subjective mean, defined, relating to or being experience or knowledge as conditioned by personal mental characteristics or states. This is the problem with man’s view of science, it is a man’s view, or standard set by a man and man’s designed testing systems. Symptoms is a view of the examiner, or their personal belief.

Symptoms are just sign posts directing you somewhere else, but if our standard is man and his knowledge and judgements, it can be very distorted and usually will be a dog chasing his tail. If our standard of judging something is God’s normal or His creation systems, we have a much better chance of seeing where the symptom is taking us.

A Rolls-Royce is a very sophisticated and a complicated car, yet has been proven to be a very reliable well-made mode of transportation. Not perfect, because it is made by man. If I own one, after spending a lot of money on buying it, I probably want to take it to a Rolls-Royce mechanic only, to a person that the Rolls-Royce company has trained. The local one stall auto repair shop down the street probably has never seen a Rolls-Royce or studied one. He still might be able to figure the problem out but may do more damage to the car in doing so.

God is the creator of all, He is the one that designed and made man from dirt. A creation that was supposed to last for approximately one hundred and twenty years without a dim eye or sick day. Deuteronomy 34:7 Moses was one hundred and twenty years old when he died. His eyes were not dim nor his natural vigor diminished. (NKJV)

Maybe we ought to take a clue from this and take our body made perfect by God to a person who has studied all things in God’s creation from His Word and nature and the earth’s nature that He created. The human body was made perfect by a perfect God, not like a man made Rolls-Royce. Some people will say immediately that if the body was made perfect, then why is it so messed up? Could it be because man has messed up the human body in the name of greed and power?

Drug Abuse Solutions

Drug abuse today is a major cause for concern and has a negative effect on society at large. Though students constitute a large segment of drug abusers, adults also succumb to drug abuse. There is a tendency amongst middle-aged people to abuse prescription drugs.

The first step towards combating drug addiction is to make the abuser aware of the damage it causes the body. Most addicts lack confidence and must be taught to become a master of the situation and not a slave to addiction.

There are many institutions and organizations that help drug abusers kick the habit. The support of friends and family is of prime importance. First and foremost, an abuser must be committed to giving up drugs. Doctors and counselors are a drug abusers greatest ally in the battle against addiction.

People who realize they have to quit this dangerous habit may be too embarrassed or afraid to confide in anyone. They might even be worried that they will land into trouble if they admit to having this problem. Abusers must talk to anyone they trust.

Drug abuse solutions can be viewed from many perspectives. On a national level, solutions are based and discussed in terms of the reduction in supply of drugs. From a social perspective, solutions are usually discussed in terms of prevention, early intervention and treatment.

Prevention is better than cure. This adage holds good in fighting drug abuse too. Public education campaigns and stricter laws regarding purchase and use of legal substances are measures that have been adopted by states in the USA.

Many States have created coalitions of community and business leaders to address the problem of substance abuse. These groups run community-based programs that provide mentoring, tutoring, alternative activities, and life skills development for youth in drug-impacted neighborhoods.

Alternative Medicine – The Healthy Choice

Alternative and Conventional Medicines are the two main systems of healing in use today and the utmost caution should be taken to choose wisely.

Being healthy is of crucial importance in the life of everyone. I do not believe that there is anyone who relishes the anguish of disease. Without health you can not function properly in any area of your life.

Whether enjoying the normal faculties of life or mentally unbalanced, every person would rather be perfectly healthy than endure the tortures of pain, sickness and disease, but there comes a time when we must seek medical help.

It is unfortunate that instead of healing the sick, very often some medicines interfere with the natural process of healing, resulting in additional suffering and further deterioration of health.

In ancient times, illness was cured by the use of herbs and other natural therapies which always proved very effective. Today, those same therapies as well as modern discoveres based on those of ancient times are referred to as alternative medicine and the public has been brainwashed
into believing that the treatments are worthless; yet, many diseases that have been deemed 'incurable' are being healed by alternative means but, unfortunately, these cures have never been heard of by countless sufferers.

What is called conventional medicine (also referred to as mainstream, standard, allopathic or orthodox medicine), is man-made synthetic drugs that were not in existence in ancient times. Interestingly, so many diseases were not around in those days as there are today.

The main difference between the two systems is that alternative medicine is concerned about the prevention of disease and pays attention to and deals with the cause by treating the body as a whole. It focuses on preventing disease before it starts. It views the presence of disease as an imbalance of the emotional, mental and physical state of a person and endeavors to support and strengthen the immune system by natural means.

Alternative medicine contends that the body is naturally able to heal itself and remain stable – known in medicine as homeostasis.

On the other hand, conventional medicine is not concerned with preventing disease but rather with using synthetic drugs to cure an already established ailment. It is more interested in treating just the symptoms of disease by scientific techniques and technology instead of treating the whole person.

Many conventional drugs are said to have the potential to damage the liver and kidneys, and cause mental depression, heart falure, cancer and other adverse side effects. Now, if that is so, why are they still being manufactured and sold to the public? Where is the concern for public health and safety?

Note that since the introduction of conventional medicine, instead of there being greater relief from illness, there has been an exponential surge of diseases wreaking havoc in the lives of unsuspecting mortals. Why is this so?

If conventional medicine were the answer to health problems, why are there so many more diseases prevalent today? The interesting thing is that a name is readily given to each new disease and some form of synthetic remedy is quickly manufactured for sale!

Conventional medicine has been so well advertised that the public is convinced that it is the only way they can get relief from devastating illnesses. They jump at the announcement of any new supposedly super healing conventional medicine and with no hesitation embark upon treating themselves. This is especially so in the case of weight loss.

The sad thing is that no real cure is realized from these, whereas there are natural remedies that have been proven to cure. I can personally attest to certain cures that I have experienced through the use of natural remedies.

It is well known that some drug manufacturers have had to withdraw their dangerous medication because of the likelihood of patients suffering heart attack and stroke. Most synthetic drugs, if not all, have dangerous side effects of which the public is unaware. Some are very detrimental to unborn babies. So why are these drugs still being sold and at such exorbitant prices?

The general public is not sufficiently made aware of the dangers of conventional drugs. For obvious reasons, no attempt to do so is made by those who should educate the unwary and encourage the use of alternative medicine.

Obviously, if disease is prevented by natural means before resulting in the breakdown of the immune system which is the body's mechanism of defence against illness, serious diseases such as cancer and other so-called incurable diseases would be revented, and so there would be little need for the administration of expensive conventional medicine since that would be necessary only in case of surgery and other traumatic conditions.

Sad to say, it is reported that nutritional supplements as well as some alternative medicines packaged by some unscrupulous manufacturers are not quite what their labels indicate, and that the potency is far below what is required to be effective. This is not to suggest that they are toxic, but rather that they are not quite as effective as they should be.

If this is so, my personal feeling is that such persons should be exposed and their names posted in full view for all to see. This should curb that undesirable practice. One must therefore be very cautious when choosing nutritional supplements as well as alternative medicines.

Another point that I think worthy of note is about products so readily put on the skin. Most of them are formulated with harmful synthetic substances that get into the blood stream and invariably cause dangerous side effects. As it is said, what you would not eat, you should not put on your skin.

Remember that the skin absorbs and can not differentiate between synthetic chemicals and natural substances. You may not see the adverse effects now, but years later your skin would speak for itself. You do not want to look older than your age, do you? Then do not poison yourself with the topical application of toxic skin products.

No one should be so busy so as not be able to find time to learn about the natural substances that they could take to protect their own bodies and prevent diseases. Many thousands of persons might have been alive today if only they had known, and had been encouraged to use natural remedies.

I enjoy reading to find out about ancient formulas and treatments that have resurfaced today, as well as new discoveries of natural healing methods and remedies that are gaining momentum amongst health conscious persons.

Ï have collected lots of information on herbal remedies. Among them are such topics as heart health the natural way, aromatherapy essential oils, homeopathy, beautiful skin care, skin diseases, healing for conditions such as acne, hemorrhoids, eczema, etc., weightloss, and many other natural health remedies and detailed information on how to make your own from nature's herbs, vitamins and nutrients.

Many persons seem to be convinced that natural remedies made by God do not have the efficacy of the synthetic remedies made by man!

God who made this world has said "the leaves of the trees for healing of the nations." God is truth and can not lie. Is not it time that we took Him at his word?

Why should we put our trust in Satan and his lies and put no confidence in God and His truth?

Since there seems to be no confidence in what God has made, Why do not we make our own water, sunshine, trees, and fresh air? Why do we walk upon God's earth? We should make our own basic items to concoct synthetic remedies instead of corrupting the things that God has made.

You can seek relief from disease either through natural alternative medicine by which you can maintain good health and save; or, through conventional medicine with its ill effects of costly synthetic prescription drugs at the risk of further deterioration of your health. It is up to you to prevent poisoning yourself, avoid unnecessary pain and suffering, and be healthy.

Keep this in mind:

If you really want to fight disease,
Natural Medicine is the Healthy Choice;
But, if you'd rather be deceased,
Synthetic Medicine might be the Deadly Choice !!

The Function of Vitamin B in Our Life

The B vitamins are eight water-soluble vitamins that play important roles in cell metabolism. Historically, the B vitamins were once thought to be a single vitamin, referred to as vitamin B (much like how people refer to vitamin C or vitamin D). Later research showed that they are chemically distinct vitamins that often coexist in the same foods. Supplements containing all eight are generally referred to as a vitamin B complex.

List of B vitamins are as follows:

  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine)
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin)
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin, includes nicotinic acid and nicotinamide)
  • Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid)
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine)
  • Vitamin B7 (biotin), also known as vitamin H
  • Vitamin B9 (folic acid), also, vitamin M
  • Vitamin B12 (various cobalamins; commonly cyanocobalamin in vitamin supplements)

Each B vitamin has its own individual properties and its own unique biological role to play. As a group, these nutrients have so much in common that they are often thought of as a single entity.

Key Functions of Vitamin B

  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine) – helps the body convert carbohydrates into energy and helps in the metabolism of proteins and fats.
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) – is required to complete several reactions in the energy cycle.
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin, includes nicotinic acid and nicotinamide) – helps the metabolism of carbohydrates.
  • Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) – promotes a large number of metabolic reactions essential for the growth and well-being of animals.
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine) – is a coenzyme for several enzyme systems involved in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
  • Vitamin B7 (biotin), also known as vitamin H – plays a role in metabolic processes that lead to the formation of fats and the utilization of carbon dioxide.
  • Vitamin B9 (folic acid), also, vitamin M – is necessary for the synthesis of nucleic acids and the formation of red blood cells.
  • Vitamin B12 (various cobalamins; commonly cyanocobalamin in vitamin supplements) – is a complex crystalline compound that functions in all cells, but especially in those of the gastrointestinal tract, the nervous system, and the bone marrow. It is known to aid in the development of red blood cells in higher animals.

Food Sources of Vitamin B

  • Vitamin B1 (thiamine) – Thiamin is found in whole-grain cereals, bread, red meat, egg yolks, green leafy vegetables, legumes, sweet corn, brown rice, berries, and yeast.
  • Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) – Riboflavin is found in whole-grain products, milk, meat, eggs, cheese and peas.
  • Vitamin B3 (niacin, includes nicotinic acid and nicotinamide) – Niacin is found in protein-rich foods. The most common protein rich foods are: meats, fish, brewer’s yeast, milk, eggs, legumes, potatoes and peanuts.
  • Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) – Pantothenic acid is found in meats, legumes and whole-grain cereals.
  • Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine) – Pyridoxine can be found in many foods. Some of the foods that contain it are: liver, meat, brown rice, fish, butter, wheat germ, whole grain cereals, and soybeans.
  • Vitamin B7 (biotin), also known as vitamin H – Liver, egg yolk, green vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Vitamin B9 (folic acid), also, vitamin M – Folic acid is found in many foods, including yeast, liver, green vegetables, and whole grain cereals.
  • Vitamin B12 (various cobalamins; commonly cyanocobalamin in vitamin supplements) – Vitamin B12 can be found in liver, meat, egg yolk, poultry and milk.

Nutritional Safety

Each of the B vitamins has different safety and usage factors:

  • Vitamin B1 – Easily destroyed by alcohol consumption, caffeine, stress, and smoking. Pregnant women may benefit from slightly higher levels of B1. Large doses (5,000 to 10,000 mg) can cause headaches, irritability, rapid pulse, and weakness.
  • Vitamin B2 – Absorption or availability is decreased by the use of oral contraceptives, as well as by regular exercise and alcohol consumption. Vegetarians and the elderly may benefit from slightly higher levels of B2. A deficiency of riboflavin can cause skin disorders, anemia, light-sensitive eyes, and inflammation of the soft tissue lining around the mouth and nose.
  • Vitamin B3 – Nicotinic acid (niacin) – People who exercise regularly, take oral contraceptives, or have a lot of stress in their lives may need slightly higher levels. A deficiency of niacin causes the disease, pellagra. More than 100mg of vitamin B3 can cause flushing, tingling, itching, headaches, nausea, diarrhea and ulcers.
  • Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid) – Elderly people and those who take oral contraceptives, as well as those who smoke, or consume alcohol or caffeine may need slightly higher levels. Symptoms of deficiency may include depression and poor appetite. An individual suffering from biotin deficiency may seem lethargic, weak or easily fatigued. Hair loss may result from biotin insufficiency. Additionally in some cases of severe biotin deficiency, eczema occurs. The eczema can appear anywhere on the body but primarily targets the face. Occasionally deficiency will result in a slight swelling or inflammation of the tongue as well.
  • Vitamin B6 – Pregnant or breastfeeding/lactating women, those who use contraceptives or hormone replacement therapy, and those who use antibiotics regularly may need slightly higher levels. B6 supplementation is also suggested for those who consume alcohol, smoke, and consume protein above recommended levels. Deficiency of pyridoxine is rare. However, pyridoxine deficiency often occurs in alcoholics. Deficiency causes skin disorders, disruption of the nervous system, confusion, poor coordination and insomnia. Pyridoxine is also called pyridoxal phosphate and pyridoxamine. More than 500mg can cause irreversible nerve damage. The nerve damage can cause impaired walking, numbness, tingling and poor sense of touch.
  • Vitamin B7 (Biotin) – Pregnant women and those who use antibiotics on a long-term basis may need increased levels.
  • Vitamin B9 (Folic acid) – Elderly people and pregnant women may need higher levels, as well as people who consume alcohol or have risk factors associated with heart disease. Deficiency of folic acid causes anemia, poor growth, and irritation of the mouth. Deficiency of folic acid is common in alcoholics, the elderly, and people who are malnourished. Folic Acid is also called folacin and pteroylglutamic acid.
  • Vitamin B12 – Strict vegetarians and vegans, along with pregnant and/or lactating women, and those who consume alcohol or smoke may need increased levels. Deficiency of vitamin B12 causes mouth irritation, brain damage, and a disease called pernicious anemia.

My next article entitled The Function of Vitamin C in our Life will examine the role of Vitamin C in good nutrition.

See you on the Beaches of the World.

Why Urgent Care Is a Superior Choice for Emergency Treatments

Are you in need of emergency medical care? If yes, then this article is what you need to study for some information that can actually be of great help for you. Most of the time, when you face health issues or meet with any accident, you visit the nearest hospital. But extensive research and studies suggest that other than the hospitals and clinics, the urgent care center is another place where people now can visit for some emergency medical help. These centers are rather a better choice in place of hospitals because they don’t keep patients waiting for hours.

Present Situation in Hospitals and Medical Clinic:

People these days are complaining about the medical services offered by the hospitals and emergency rooms and the only reason behind this is a limited amount of health insurance, less number of physicians and huge money charges for treating a mere ailment. This is seriously unfortunate that the condition is becoming worse with every passing day, but this made urgent care centers a popular medical treatment option for many that serves people who are in need of emergency medical help.

Disadvantages of Not Opting For Urgent Care Centers:

The major problem that you would be facing for not visiting an urgent care center is that irrespective of when you have arrived into the emergency room, you have no other choice other than waiting for hours for getting the treatment. Well, the situation is such worse because of various factors like there are many people who use emergency rooms to treat their general injuries, which creates a backlog of people. Apart from this, triage of whom to treat first becomes another highlighting reason. Several other factors are also there that has led to this worse condition of clinics and hospitals.

Popularity of Urgent Care Centers:

People who do not get a chance to treat themselves emergency rooms, or cannot afford to wait for hours to get a treatment, opts for urgent care centers. These centers come with a wide number of doctors, nurses, physicians, surgeons, etc. Apart from these, they also come with tools and equipment that are essential for medical treatments. Starting from mere fractures and ailments, these centers can treat patients for complex diseases like urinary tract infections.

These are some of the highlighting facts that make urgent care centers a better alternative for general medical clinics and hospitals. Apart from these, there are various other advantages that make them a superior choice.

Ancient Wisdom and Modern Medicine

Everybody wants to live not only a better but also a longer life. Living well is a common human pursuit, but it may often turn out to be only a carrot and stick-forever unattainable. Post why? It is because living well is an art that requires profound ancient wisdom, not just the conventional wisdom of modern medicine, in order to live a disease-free life.

The human body has built-in body wisdom that keeps it young and healthy, that is, an innate awareness of its basic needs, as well as its warning signs and signals of internal disharmony that may lead to imminent disease and disorder. Therefore, wisdom is required to enhance this human consciousness to create a new environment in which the biochemistry of the body becomes the substance of awareness of beliefs, emotions, and thoughts, thereby instrumental in maintaining and sustaining the overall wellness of an individual to remain disease -free as much as and as long as possible.

Body wisdom is no more than everyday eating and living habits. Eating is a science, and living is an art; they complement each other, just as "yin" and "yang" do. Human wisdom is, essentially, the capability in creating and managing this art and science to live a better and a longer life.

Ancient wisdom, however, is not the same as contemporary wisdom. The former has more to do with the mind-how it thinks and perceives; the latter focuses more on knowledge acquisition, and its practical applications in life.

A classic example of ancient wisdom is that of Lao Tzu, an ancient sage in China some 2,600 years ago. He was the author of the immortal Chinese classic "Tao Te Ching," which is one of the most translated and extensively read books of all time. According to legend, Lao Tzu wanted to leave China for Tibet, but he was stopped at the city gate, where he was forced to put down his wisdom in writing before he could leave. Reluctantly, he expressed his profound and eternal wisdom in only 5,000 words, and that was how "Tao Te Ching" came into being ..

How does Tao wisdom help in living a better and a longer life?

Lao Tzu's wisdom is unique in that it emphasizes "reverse" thinking of the human mind, instead of the "conditioned" contemporary mindset. In other words, one must, first and foremost, have an empty mind before one can even think out of the box, not to mention creating one's own box in thinking. To illustrate, Lao Tzu's focus on "under-doing" (as opposed to "over-doing" or "the more, the better" contemporary mindset), "living in the present" (as opposed to "multi-tasking" modern lifestyle ), and "no expectation of result" (as opposed to "goal-oriented" or "goal-setting" attitude of this day and age) is conducive to creating internal peace and harmony, which is the essence of living a stress-free life. The essentials of Tao wisdom are fundamental to the art of living well and the science of healthy living without stress.

In addition, Lao Tzu believed that true wisdom lies in internalizing and self-intuiting eternal truths. Unlike contemporary wisdom, Tao wisdom has no blueprint for all-just as the health of an individual is based on the unique body chemistry of that individual; true wisdom, therefore, is acute awareness of the needs of the body, which is known exclusively only to that individual.

Another example of ancient wisdom is that of Hippocrates (377-460 BC), the "Father of Medicine." His basic principles of health and wellness are profound. For example, Hippocrates said: "Let food be your medicine and medicine be your food." His wisdom is quite contrary to the conventional wisdom of modern medicine, which overtly emphasizes the use of drugs. The United States is the riches but also the sickest country in the world, and our healthcare costs have skyrocketed in recent decades.

Hippocrates also expressed his wisdom in the art of living: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." The wisdom of modern medicine focuses on cure through drugs and procedures, rather than prevention through a holistic approach to health and wellness of the body, the mind, and the spirit. The wisdom of modern medicine is simply on quick fixing the symptoms, instead of preventing their occurrence in the first place.

The wisdom of Hippocrates echoed that of Lao Tzu's "non-doing" or "under-doing" when he said: "To do nothing is sometimes a good remedy." According to Hippocrates, "everything in excess is opposed to nature" because of the presence of the innate body wisdom in self-healing. Unfortunately, modern medicine chooses to do just the opposite, and thus opening the Pandora's box, creating many more human diseases and disorders through toxic drugs and procedures.

The Bible is the Word of God. It provides the ancient wisdom of God for health and wellness in the form of principles for the body, the soul, and the spirit. For example, in the Old Testament (Genesis 1:19), God prescribed ancient Hebrews with instructions to eat plants and seeds. As a matter of fact, in Hebrew language, the word "meat" is essentially "food" and not animal protein. However, it does not mean that God would like the Hebrews to become vegetarians; rather, fruits, vegetables, and herbs would have to be their basic or first diet. The Bible, in many instances, reveals the ancient wisdom in healthy eating to maintain health and wellness.

To conclude, wisdom is about acute awareness and profound perception through the human eye to see things as they really are, without looking at them through colored spectacles. In Matthew 6:22, Jesus said: "The light of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye be single, your body will be full of light." True human wisdom is how we perceive and internalize our life experiences, based on an understanding of who we really are and what our essential roles are in this world, as well as of the natural laws of things. With this profound understanding, we will look at everything and everyone around us in perspective. One final word: without true human wisdom, it is difficult to understand the wisdom of God.

Dealing With Discus Fish Disease

Discus fish disease is one of the things you want to learn not only because you want to know how to deal with it but also prevent the disease from striking your fish. One of the most common problems among specific big cichlids including the Discus fish is having a hole in the head. Early detection and treatment is very important because the longer the disease exists, it can be the cause of death of your fish. Even if the fish heals after the treatment, the wound can leave a permanent scar. Treating the wound while it is still small is strongly recommended. You can treat the disease by increasing the water temperature from 30 degree Celsius to 36 degree Celsius for a couple of days, 8 to 10 days is ideal. Remember that an increased water temperature should be combined with increased aeration to keep the oxygen level up. You can combine heat treatment with Metronidazole, this should be administered orally. You can give this to your Discus fish once every three days. If your fish is not responding well to heat treatment, you can just use the Metronidazole treatment.

Another Discus fish disease is gill fluke. This is very common among Discus fish and it is very dangerous for Discus fry. Gill Flukes are external parasites that destroy the gills and cause heavy breathing and irregular swimming. The affected fish can become totally paralyzed and can sink down to the bottom of the tank. You can cure this by using formalin. Infested parents can still spawn but when the offspring grow to about the size of a 10 cent coin, gill flukes transmitted by the parents can become serious problem. Another form of Discus fish disease is being affected with internal parasites. The fish can have internal parasites without posing some serious threats but sometimes these parasites can grow uncontrollably and that’s when the problem begins. Common symptoms include emaciation and white feces. While it can be difficult which specific parasite affects your Discus fish, a dose of Metronidazole usually clears the problem out. If your Discus can still eat, you can prepare a solution of 200 ml water and 10 ml liquid Metronidazole and soak its food in it for an hour. Feed your Discus fish with the medicated food every 2 days for a period of 10 days. If your fish is no longer eating, you would have to force feed it using a syringe without needle.

Scar Treatment – Remove Scars through Herbal Ways

Scars are the fibrous tissue formed on the skin in order to repair broken tissue. When there is an injury, the skin produces more cells in order to re-grow the punctured skin. This tissue is known as a scar.

A scar is easily visible because the cells that go in making up the scar are of lesser quality than the original cells. For example, the scars on the skin are not able to grow any hair since they have no hair follicles. Also they are lesser-resistant to UV radiation.

It is a fact that scars can never be completely healed. There are several medical and cosmetic methods to cover up scars, but none of them can claim to remove a scar completely. The scar can be masked by some methods, like laser surgery, steroid injections, dermabrasion and radio therapy, but none of these methods can remove the scar fully. On the contrary, there might be permanent injury to the skin. On the other hand, Ayurveda deals in some safe herbal methods to remove scars. These methods are generally simple home remedies, and they have no side-effects at all. You can try out these methods before going in for complicated surgical procedures.

Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Scars

– Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis)

Aloe vera is a good home remedy for the treatment of residual scars. Its juice acts as natural bleach. Its juice is applied to the scars, which then slowly reduce and vanish.

– Cucumber (Curcumis sativus)

The cool cucumber helps in the removal of scar tissues also. A paste is made of the cucumber and is applied directly onto the scars. This helps the scars to smoothen out after a few applications left overnight.

– Indian Gooseberry (Emblica officinalis)

The Indian gooseberry, or the amalaki, is very important in the prevention of scars after healing. Amalaki is the richest source of vitamin C, which is needed for cementing open wounds.

Dietary Guidelines for Treatment of Scars

Vitamin E is essential in the healing of a wound. When you are injured, increase the intake of vitamin E in the diet. This is available in the form of nuts, eggs, oilseeds, wheat germ, etc. Taking a lot of vitamin E speeds up the healing process. Because of this the possibility of scars remaining after the injury is very less. It must be noted that vitamin E must be had when the wound is still healing. After the scar is formed, the effects of vitamin E in removing the scar are minimal.

Vitamin C is also essential during the healing process. Vitamin C contains collagen, a cementing material that is very necessary during blood clotting. This can be got from most sour foods, including creams. Creams are considered to be best for this purpose. Cocoa cream is very beneficial in the treatment of superficial scars.

Keep your diet adequate with green leafy vegetables and fresh fruits. Taking a good amount of protein-rich food is also necessary for fast healing with less scars left.

Home Remedies for Treatment of Scars

– Take some vitamin E capsules. Open them and smear the powder or the oil of these capsules onto the scars. This will help the scars heal.

– Aloe vera paste can be mixed with the powder of vitamin E capsules. This can be rubbed onto the scar for better results. This must be done several times a day.

– You can also apply honey directly on the scars and leave it overnight. This application must be done frequently so that the scar gets enough time to get healed completely.

– Put the oil of the tea tree onto the scar and gently rub it in several times a day. The scar will vanish in a few days.

– Alternatively, green tea can be slightly blanched, dabbed onto a cotton swab and then massaged onto the scar. This will also help the scar to gradually vanish.

– Rub ice cubes onto the scars. This is a simple remedy to treat the scars. But the ice must be rubbed several times on the face.

– Olive oil is very good in removing scars. However if you don’t get olive oil for some reason, then you can take any oil and massage it on the scar several times a day. After many days of such treatment, the scar will eventually wear off.

– If the scar is due to a pimple, then the following remedy is useful. Mix a tablespoon of sour cream, a tablespoon of yogurt, a tablespoon of ground oatmeal and a few drops of lemon juice and blend it thoroughly. Apply this paste onto the face for ten minutes. Then wash it off. Do this four times in a day. Remember to use low-fat sour cream if you have an oily skin.

– Cut a clove of garlic into half and rub it on the pimples when you have them. This helps to treat the pimples without leaving a scar behind later on.

Breast Cancer: 3 Uncommon Risk Factors

Every woman should consult their doctor at least once a year to screen themselves for breast cancer. This is because statistics have shown as many as 12 percent of women will develop the disease. It is simply a common occurrence for women. You can really save your own life if you diagnose it early.

Here are 3 risk factors you did not know that can cause you to have this cancer.

Exposure to estrogen for a long time

What is estrogen? Estrogen is the female hormone which determines your women qualities, roughly speaking. Estrogen exists in every female.

But there is a strong connection between breast cancer and the estrogen hormone. Estrogen levels rise during a girl’s puberty and decrease tremendously when she hits menopause. The problem is, the longer a women’s breasts are exposed to estrogen, the higher her risk of developing the cancer. Therefore, doctors have concluded that women who have started to menstruate at an early age of 12 are more likely to have the cancer. The same goes to women who have menopause at a late age, 55 for example.

If a woman uses hormonal birth control for a period of 5 years or longer, she is at risk too.

Alcohol consumption

Drinking alcohol automatically increases a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer. Any females who think they are at risk can instantly reduce their worries by stopping their alcohol intake.

Obesity and not eating right

Did you know that animal fat can increase your risk? Being overweight also makes a person more likely to have breast cancer.

Common Causes of Cellulitis

Natural flora of our body includes some types of bacteria. These bacteria thrive inside and outside the human body without causing harm if they stay in their rightful place and maintain normal numbers. In some instances, we accidentally acquire cuts and breaks in the skin that causes unwanted skin openings. These cuts or scrapes allow some of the body’s external natural flora to enter the outer layer of the skin and move inward to infect the deepest skin layer. This is what happens in cellulitis.

Cellulitis is skin disease that may appear in different parts of the body. The bacteria responsible for this skin disease are usually the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Group A Streptococcus. Both causes of cellulitis play a role in the different types of cellulitis such as facial cellulitis, breast cellulitis, orbital cellulitis, periorbital cellulitis, hand/arm cellulitis, perianal cellulitis and lower leg/foot cellulitis.

These two causes of cellulitis act differently once inside the body. The Group A beta-hemolytic streptococci rapidly spread under the skin and produces enzymes that break down cells thereby allows non-localized infection. Staphylococci infection on the other hand is more localized and often occurs upon entry through an open wound.

Other microorganisms and underlying diseases may also be one of the causes of cellulitis. These microorganisms may enter the body through scrapes, cuts, wounds, blisters, insect bites and even ulcers and penetrates the skin layers. Tattoos and surgical wounds may also be entry points of cellulitis-causing bacteria. Some infection may even cause swelling to nearby lymph nodes and eventually spread infection through the blood.

– Hemophilus influenzae type B or Hib is a gram-negative and non-motile bacterium that used to rampantly cause cellulitis and other diseases especially in children. Since a vaccine for Hib has already been developed, cases of cellulitis caused by this type of bacteria have dramatically decreased.

– Clostridium perfringens is an anaerobic bacterium commonly found in soil, in marine sediments and is also a natural flora of the intestines. This bacterium causes anaerobic cellulitis. This is a localized infection that involves the skin and soft tissue and in rare cases may cause necrosis.

– Pasteurella multocida is a bacterium included in the causes of cellulitis from animal bites. This bacterium is a resident of the upper respiratory tract in cats, dogs, and livestock. It may be passed on to a human though bites, scratches or even just their saliva. The cellulitis caused by this bacterium progresses rapidly and needs immediate medical care.

– Certain diseases may also lead to complications and be one of the causes of cellulitis.

Immunocompromised people or people with weak immune systems are easy targets for cellulitis-causing bacteria. Those with chronic skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis wherein the skin constantly has fresh wounds or openings may also easily acquire cellulitis if not careful. Same can be said with those who have athlete’s foot, fungal infection, diabetes and edema.

Cellulitis is commonly treated with antibiotics and may be relieved by antibiotic topical ointments. Doctor prescription and advice is needed before treatment. Severe cases of cellulitis are delat with in a hospital while mild cases may be treated at home.

Seizures in Dogs – Dogs With Epilepsy

I recently had an email from a former client who has a dog that suffers from seizures.

Percy is a 4 year old yellow Lab with epilepsy. He has been on traditional ant-seizure medication, and is not responding very well now. He is suffering from seizures once a month, even on the highest doses of these medications.

My former client asked me if there was anything she could do at home, holistically. She wants to avoid conventional medications as much as she can.

So I sent her the information in this article. You may not have a seizuring pet, but you should be aware of the signs and possible solutions.

Seizures in Dogs

The signs of seizures vary, but they generally include some of the following symptoms.

Loss or derangement of consciousness, contractions of all the muscles in the body, changes in mental awareness (from non-responsiveness to hallucinations), involuntary urination, defecation, or salivation, or behavioral changes, including non-recognition of owner, viciousness, pacing, and running in circles.

Seizures consist of three parts:

1) The pre-ictal phase (aura) is a period of altered behavior in which the dog may hide, appear nervous, or seek out his owner. He may be restless, nervous, whining, shaking, or salivating. This may last a few seconds to a few hours.

2) The ictal phase is the actual seizure itself. This lasts from a few seconds to about five minutes. During this period, all of the muscles of the body contract strongly. The dog usually falls on his side and seems paralyzed while shaking. His head will be drawn backward. Urination, defecation, and salivation often occur. If it is not over within five minutes, the dog is said to be in ‘status epilepticus’ or prolonged seizure.

3) During the post-ictal phase, there is confusion, disorientation, salivation, pacing, restlessness, and/or temporary blindness. There is no direct correlation between the severity of the seizure and the duration of the post-ictal phase.

Despite the dramatic signs of a seizure, the dog feels no pain, only bewilderment. Unlike with us humans, dogs do not swallow their tongues. If you put your fingers into his mouth, you’re not going to help! You will run a VERY high risk of being bitten – and bitten very badly. Do NOT place your hands in his mouth.

The important thing is to keep your dog from falling and hurting himself. As long as he is on the floor (or outside on the ground), there is little chance that he will harm himself.

If the seizure continues for longer than a few minutes, his body temperature will begin to rise. If hyperthermia (over heating) develops along with a seizure, you will have another set of problems.

Prolonged Seizure (Status Epilepticus)

Status epilepticus is very serious. It is characterized by a seizure that lasts more than five minutes. When this occurs, your dog’s life is in danger. Unless intravenous medication is given quickly, death can occur. If your dog is in this state, you should IMMEDIATELY take him in for emergency veterinary care.

Causes of Seizures

There are many, many causes of seizures. Epilepsy is the most common reason and of least consequence to the dog. The other extreme includes severe diseases such as brain tumors. Fortunately, most seizures are due to epilepsy.

Possible Solutions

When a seizure occurs, we begin by taking a thorough history concentrating on possible exposure to poisonous or hallucinogenic substances or history of head trauma. We also perform a physical examination, a basic battery of blood tests, and an electrocardiogram (EKG). These tests rule out disorders of the liver, kidneys, heart, electrolytes, and blood sugar level. A heartworm test is performed if your dog is not taking heartworm preventative very regularly.

If these tests are normal and there is no exposure to poison or recent trauma, further diagnostics may be performed depending on the severity and frequency of the seizures. Occasional seizures are of less concern than when the seizures are becoming more severe and frequent. In this instance, a spinal fluid tap and fluid analysis may be performed. Depending on availability, specialized imaging of the head with a CAT scan or MRI might be performed. Fortunately, these additional tests are usually not needed.

To The Veterinarian:

We generally prescribe 1-2 weeks of anticonvulsant therapy. If there are no more seizures during that time, the anticonvulsants are gradually discontinued. The next treatment is determined by how long it takes for another seizure to occur. That may be days, months, or years. At some point, many dogs have seizures frequently enough to justify continuous anticonvulsant therapy. Since that means that medication must be given every 12 to 24 hours for the rest of the dog’s life, we do not recommend that until seizures occur about every 30 days or unless they last more than five minutes.

It is important to avoid sudden discontinuation of any anticonvulsant medication. Even normal dogs may be induced to seizure if placed on anticonvulsant medication and then abruptly withdrawn from it. Your veterinarian can outline a schedule for discontinuing the medication.

Hypoallergenic Diet:

There are reports that show a link between diet and seizures in dogs. Every seizuring pet should at least try a commercial hypoallergenic diet for 12 weeks. You can also make your own elimination diet.

Melatonin:

This has been used an anticonvulsant for some dogs. Many dogs only have seizures at night.

Homeopathic:

Cicuta virosa. This can be given to control seizures.

Serenity:

Many pets with epilepsy will seizure in response to certain stimuli, such as loud noises or bright lights. Get to know what triggers your pet’s seizures, and avoid these situations.

Try the above solutions to see what works for your dog. Note how I mention diet as a possibility: if you are not feeding your pet a quality premium NATURAL food, make the switch NOW. This will help with more than just seizures – this will help in almost all areas of disease. Do what you can!

Mini Stroke Symptom – What Does A Mini Stroke Symptom Look Like?

Are you wondering if what you are seeing is a Mini Stroke Symptom? This article will help you identify what a Mini Stroke Symptom may look like. If you or someone dear to you, is exhibiting a Mini Stroke Symptom, get them immediate medical care.

Mini Stroke Symptom – Taste, Vision and Speech

Some people who have suffered a stroke report a change in their sense of taste. Other stroke patients have reported a complete loss of their ability to taste. Depending upon which part of the brain is affected by the stroke will determine the extent of the damage, as well as how the Mini Stroke Symptom manifests itself. But, it is not just the sense of taste that is affected by a stroke. Many stroke patients report a change in their ability to focus, see clearly and in some cases, see at all.

Another common Mini Stroke Symptom is the loss of speech. A person may be having a stroke if they are suddenly not able to speak clearly and coherently. For the person experiencing the Mini Stroke Symptom, this may prove to be a very trying and difficult time. In his mind, they are able to "hear" themselves speak, they know the correct words to say and how to string them together to make a coherent sentence. But, they are not able to verbalize their thoughts clearly. Depending upon the severity of the stroke, some people have to relearn how to speak and walk.

Mini Stroke Symptom – Muscle Weakness, Numbness and Trembles

One of the most prominent Mini Stroke Symptom is an overall sense of muscle weakness. Numbness, in all or part of the body is another Mini Stroke Symptom to be aware of. If you or someone you are with begins to complain about numbness in their body, you need to take this very seriously. This is definitely one of the most often seen Mini Stroke Symptom, so react accordingly. Some stroke patients have also reported a sense of trembling in their bodies during the initial stage of their stroke. This could appear as an uncontrollable shivering or shakes. If you are not in a very cold area, please consider this as a possible Mini Stroke Symptom and seek immediate medical attention.

The Stroke Symptom mini – Time is of the Essence

When it comes to helping someone who may be having a stroke, you are going to want to look at the signs. Make sure that when you do see some of the signs and symptoms, that you seek medical help immediately. I know this was just mentioned above, but this can not be stressed enough. You will want to get them medical attention quickly so that you can help your loved one. If they are experiencing a stroke, every minute that you delay in seeking help may cause more brain damage. Because of the prevalence of a repeat stroke, it is especially important to be looking for stroke signs if the person has already had one or more strokes.

In this article we have looked at some of the possible Mini Stroke Symptom that you may see in someone who is experiencing a stroke. Please do not take this lightly, especially if a person has a history of prior strokes. If in doubt, seek immediate medical attention.

Cause Of Insomnia

The National Institute of Health defines insomnia as, "the perception or complaint of inadequate sleep" and classifies it as three types; transient, intermittent and chronic. Most people have suffered from insomnia at one time or other in its transient (one day to a month) or intermittent (occasional) form. Around 10% of the population suffers from chronic insomnia. Elderly persons, menopausal women and pregnant women are more likely to be more affected than others.

Causes of insomnia are classified into three broad categories – life style, physical health disorders and mental health disorders. Life style can be subdivided into what we eat, sleeping environment and sleep schedule. Alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, some allergic foods and medications like decongestants, bronchodilators, anti hypertensives, anti depressants, diuretics, anti epileptics, anti arrhythmic, thyroid medications and histamine H2 inhibitors are known to cause insomnia.

Environmental noise, extreme temperatures, change of sleeping area, uncomfortable bed and insects like mosquitoes are the main environmental factors that prevent sleep. Varying work schedules like shift work, jet lag, long afternoon naps and recreational activities are also causes that upset a good night's sleep.

Obviously, one can not fall asleep if in pain due to injury or illness. Sleep specific disorders are obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, circadian rhythm disorder and periodic limb movement disorder. The diseases that become an underlying cause of insomnia are arthritis, asthma, Parkinson's diseases, hyperthyroid, prostrate problems, degenerative disease, gastro esophageal reflux, fibromyalgia kidney disease, heart failure and rhinitis. Menopause can cause sleep problems due to hormonal imbalance.

Stress, anxiety, grief, depression, schizophrenia, panic disorder and mania and acute psychosis are psychiatric conditions that cause insomnia. Above all, the worry that one is not getting sufficient sleep is likely to worsen the problem. This, in turn, creates a vicious cycle, which can make the condition serious.

The causes of insomnia are very complex and it is very difficult to pin down to a single or even a few causes. A patient study of behavioral pattern, sleep history chart and if required specialized study with polysomnogram and full co-operation of the family is needed to determine the cause of insomnia.

Dual Diagnosis and Maintaining Mental Stability

Dual diagnosis is reference for those individuals that have drug or alcohol dependency along with mental or psychological disorders co-existing at the same time. It is challenging to treat patients with co-occurring disorders because the drug addiction can worsen the psychological problem and vice versa, which makes it difficult to ascertain and treat the individual. With over 12 million people diagnosed with psychological illness and have issues with drugs or alcohol, the statistics are alarming.

The most common 8 psychological disorders that have been evaluated in individuals are Borderline Personality Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, Panic Anxiety Disorder, Eating Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Depression and Schizophrenia. The sad fact remains that it is difficult to diagnose whether the mental illness caused substance abuse or the substance abuse led to a mental disorder. Thus, in most cases, one of the two reasons masks the real issues leading to dual diagnosis.

Facts and statistics about dual diagnosis

The need for integrated treatment for dual diagnosis is more than ever especially after the startling statistics:

  • 33.3% individuals suffering from metal or psychological illnesses suffer with alcohol or drug addiction.
  • Nearly 50% people with substance issues problem have a mental disorder to compound the problem of addiction.
  • Over 40% individuals addicted to alcohol for over 4-5 years have a coexisting psychological illness.
  • People with dual diagnosis are at a higher risk of suicides as compared to those just struggling with an addiction or psychological illness.

To be on the path of recovery and living a drug-free life, people with dual diagnosis need to enter rehab facility where both addiction and the mental illness can be evaluated and assessed by medical professionals and treatment accordingly. The deadly nexus of coexistence of the mental illness and dependency on drugs needs to be broken and understood before the individual can be skillfully treated for both the issues. Thus, treatment of the addiction without considering the accompanying mental disorder will not work. Both the addiction and mental disorder need to be treated together.

Aggressive and Behavioral Issues

Aggressive and Behavioral Issues Individuals with dual diagnosis have higher chances becoming aggressive and have violent outbursts. Thus, many of the people have criminal backgrounds and are in prison. This limits the scope of improvement and treatment. Most of the people with mental disorders tend to medicate themselves with drugs or alcohol as an escape mechanism as they are unable to cope with the psychological limitations.

As the treatment for dual diagnosis is complicated, not all of the drug treatment and recovery facilities are to provide optimized solutions. Thus, it is important to seek out treatment through reputed institutions.
