Low Libido – It’s All in Your Head!

It’s true. Low libido is all in your head. Optimizing levels of a critical brain chemical can do wonders for enhancing your sex drive.

Although low libido is caused by many factors, there’s one critical brain chemical that is often overlooked and ignored by doctors. Dopamine is the brain chemical messenger responsible for libido or sexual arousal. By supplementing with a few key nutrients, you can optimize dopamine levels and maximize its function. The result is a strong sex drive.

Dopamine…The Libido Brain Chemical

Dopamine has been conclusively recognized in many studies over the last decade as playing a key role in desire. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that acts on the sympathetic nervous system to control libido, aggression, and power. In medication form, dopamine acts on the sympathetic nervous system to produce effects such as increased blood pressure and increased heart rate.

Low levels of dopamine typically result in loss of libido as well as reduced interest in sex and decreased energy for sex. Sexual arousal also suffers. Medications that block dopamine receptors have been associated with decreased libido. One recent animal study determined that administration of drugs that stimulated dopamine terminals in the brain was effective in treating hypoactive sexual disorders.

The good news is that everyone’s libido can be greatly enhanced. Numerous vitamins, minerals, natural treatments, hormones, and prescription therapies can boost sexual energy in individuals who experience symptoms of low dopamine levels.

Dopamine Nutrients for Enhancing Low Libido

The following nutrients have been shown to increase dopamine levels and enhance its libido function:

1. Guarana

Guarana is an herb that grows within the Brazilian Amazon rainforest. Guarana works by stimulating the adrenal glands to release dopamine into the blood stream and eventually the into the brain. Take 1000 mg/day.

2. Tyrosine & Phenylalanine

The amino acids tyrosine and phenylalanine, known mostly for the effects on the thyroid gland, stimulate dopamine production from the adrenal glands. Take 400 mg/day of tyrosine and 500 mg/day of phenylalanine.

3. Thiamine & Folic Acid

The B vitamin thiamine and folic acid increase dopamine levels in the brain. This means that they both have a direct effect on enhancing libido where it really counts…the brain. Take 100 mg/day of thiamine and 500 mcg/day of folic acid.

4. Ginkgo

Ginkgo’s three major pharmacological features are of great value to enhancing libido: improving the blood supply to the brain, reducing the potential for blood-clotting, and increasing the brain’s dopamine production. Like thiamine and folic acid, ginkgo has a direct effect on libido. Take 120 mg/day of ginkgo.

Low libido is all in your head…specifically related to dopamine. Supplementing with the dopamine nutrients may result in an enhanced sex drive.

Therapeutic Communication in the Nursing Profession

Nursing is a caring profession. It is also a profession that is more and more evidenced based in practice. In as much as the scientific aspects of nursing is increasing due to the complex technological advancement of medicine and the machinery that is used at the patients bedside, the fact remains that the nurse is the first person that the client usually comes in contact with in any emergency or hospital setting.

Having said this, the term, “caring” is an essential emotion that all nurses, for that matter, all individuals in the health profession must possess. With caring comes the trained ability of the nurse to facilitate therapeutic communication. One might ask, what is therapeutic communication? To better answer this question, the term communication should first be defined.

Communication can be defined as “The Process of transmitting messages and interpreting meaning.” (Wilson and others, 1995) With therapeutic communication, the sender, or nurse seeks to elicit a response from the receiver, the patient that is beneficial to the patients mental and physical health. Just as stress has been proven to adversely affect the health of individuals, the therapeutic approach to communication can actually help. In any given situation everyone uses communication.

Everyone has seen the individual that looks like they are either angry, stressed, feeling ill or maybe sad. These emotions are communicated to others not always by words, but by gestures and facial expressions. A nurse must always be aware of these expressions in clients, for these expressions may be the only way that the nurse can tell if there is something else going on that needs their attention. The term given to this type of non-verbal communication is called, meta-communication. In meta-communication, the client may look at their amputated stump and say that it doesn’t really look that bad, while at the same time tears are rolling down from their eyes.

In a case such as this the nurse should stay and further explore how the person actually feels. There are many factors associated with the healing and comforting aspects of therapeutic communication. Circumstances, surroundings, and timing all play a role in the effect of therapeutic communication. If a client is being rushed down for an emergency surgery there might not be time for a bedside conversation, but the holding of a hand could convey much more than words to the client at such a moment.

Ideally, for therapeutic communication to be effective the nurse must be aware of how they appear to the client. If a nurse appears rushed, for example, they are speaking quickly, their countenance looks harried, and they are breathing heavily, their eyes not on the client but perhaps on an intravenous bag on the client in the next bed. In a case like this, there is nothing that this nurse could say to the client in a therapeutic manner that the client would believe. The helping relationship has not been established and therefore therapeutic communication cannot be facilitated. Some of the emotions associated with therapeutic communication include but are not limited to the following: Professionalism, Confidentiality, Courtesy, Trust, Availability, Empathy, and Sympathy. (Potter, Patricia A., Perry, Anne G., Co. 2003, Basic Nursing Essentials for Practice, pg. 123, Mosby)

All of these emotions go into the client nurse relationship, which must be established by the nurse as soon as possible upon first meeting the client. To begin to establish this nurse client relationship, the nurse must assess the overall message that the client is communicating to the nurse, such as fear, pain, sadness, anxiety or apathy. The nurse should be trained in keying into the message that the client is sending. Only then can the nurse determine the best therapeutic approach. Anyone that has to be thrust in to a hospital or emergency room environment has level of anxiety.

This level can go up considerably when the client feels that they have been abandoned or that there is no one there that really cares about how they feel. When a client is the recipient of therapeutic communication from a caring individual, a level of trust is achieved and more than, that the clients entire countenance can change for the better. Their blood pressure, respirations and levels of stress can simultaneously decrease. When this takes place, the management of pain, if any is involved, can be resolved more quickly. The goal for a nurse is to become proficient in the medical

Weight Loss and Fatigue

Does this sound familiar? You begin a new diet plan, losing a couple proud pounds the first few weeks. Except instead of being energized and ready to conquer the world, you feel exhausted. Many people report feeling run down or fatigued when they start a new weight loss plan, thinking it goes with the territory. But, there is no reason to accept being tired as a normal dieting side effect.

Weight loss is about regaining your health, and fixing a damaged metabolism. If you are feeling more tired and anxious while dieting, then you are not making the best health changes. When you start dropping pounds, you should feel energetic, have a more positive outlook, and sleep better than you have in years. Sleepwalking through your day is a sign a few adjustments are needed. In fact, a new feeling of vitality should kick in before you see a physical change.

While people think they are doing all the right things, eating less and burning more, they are actually working against themselves. Dieters end up feeling miserable, face first in a gallon of double fudge ice-cream. That’s because, dramatically limiting calories, fasting, and over exercising wreaks havoc on the body. These added internal pressures trigger the stress hormone cortisol. Not only does cortisol cause the body to store fat, it is a natural anti-sleep agent. With high levels of cortisol in your system, it is impossible have restful sleep.

People become anxious when they try to lose weight. To relieve grogginess, you must regulate the cortisol and other stress hormones released by the adrenal glands.

“More than 100 studies have been conducted that show when people try to regulate themselves, they end up being fatigued,” explains Srini Pillay, MD and Assistant Clinical Professor at Harvard Medical School, “this taxes the part of the brain involved in self control. As a result, [dieters] often give in immediately after a period of intense self-control.”

You can avoid fatigue by allowing yourself to be free in ways not involving a tight reign on self control. Let loose in ways you enjoy separate from food. Treat yourself to a day at the spa, or go antiquing. Chose something you enjoy and allow yourself to feel free.

As the author of Life Unlocked: 7 Revolutionary Lessons to Overcome Fear, Dr. Pillay frames the desire to lose weight in two ways. Your goal can be harmonious or an obsession. Obsessive passions are not good for you. Don’t intensely drive yourself to stick to a rigid routine. Instead, think more deeply about how your weight loss plans can gel with your life harmoniously. Simply ask yourself how your desire to lose weight fits in your life.

Do you want to increase your self esteem?

Are you looking forward to flaunting your new physique at the beach?

Are you excited about running around with your kids?

Do you want to live long enough to see your grandchildren?

Stay connected with this deeper purpose to keep your weight loss a harmonious passion. By being less obsessive, you will feel less strained and tired.

If you are unable to control obsessive thinking, you can reduce anxiety with other techniques. According to Dr. Pillay, refocusing with meditation works well. Even though you want to lose weight, try focusing on something less exhausting when you feel worn down. Meditation is a proven way to reduce anxiety and fatigue. Learning to meditate can help relieve tension when battling your weight.

Of course, we can’t ignore the role food plays. Health professionals advise going natural to increase energy.”One cause of fatigue is eating processed diet foods. These packaged foods have no enzymes, and are often full of chemicals for enhancing flavor, such as MSG and aspartame,” explains raw food expert Susan Schenck,”such exitoxins cause fatigue.”

Schenck, best known for writing The Live Food Factor, the popular raw foods bible and author of Beyond Broccoli, fell into this trap at one time. She would fill up on packaged ‘nutrition’ bars and then have to take a nap! She found eating a diet of whole foods alleviated her lethargic mood. A diet high in raw foods is rich in enzymes, giving the pancreas a rest from cranking out digestive chemicals needed to compensate for enzymes lost when cooking.

Certified Health & Nutrition Coach Lara Dalch agrees, dieters suffering from fatigue should “eat real food. Avoid products with a huge list of ingredients you can’t pronounce. They tend to be highly processed and lacking in nutrients that will give you the energy you need.”

Dalch recommends her clients eat a plant-based diet, including lots of dark, leafy greens. Plant foods are typically lower in fat and calories and higher in fiber than meat, dairy, and processed foods. These foods make us feel full on less. They also provide loads of easy-to-access energy from essential nutrients. Also, use gentle sweets. Sweeteners like agave, maple syrup, and raw sugar prevents fluctuating energy caused by refined sugar.

Dr. Paul Ettlinger is the founder and owner of Health Quest Chiropractic & Physical Therapy in Baltimore, MD. As a promoter of getting healthy to lose weight, he advises his patients to follow the guidelines below:

– Drink plenty of water. Drink half your body weight in ounces. Spring or filtered water is best.

– Combine high quality proteins and carbohydrate sources, such as nuts, seeds, beans, legumes, eggs and low-fat cheeses. Generally small amounts of protein spread evenly throughout the day keep blood sugar stable.

– Eat lots of cruciferous vegetables. They help prevent cancer, balance hormones and are high in potassium and phytonutrients.

– Eliminate grains and starches. Your body will burn those sources of sugar before stored fat.

– Eliminate caffeine and get on a regular sleep schedule. Cutting stimulants out will be hard at first, but will eliminate the roller coaster effect on adrenal hormones and insulin. This results in more energy at the right time.

– See a Functional Medicine practitioner to help you balance hormones and properly supplement your nutritional needs.

The result is a stronger, leaner body. So, take control of your weight loss and experience the vitality and happiness you deserve from a healthy lifestyle.

FAQs – First Aid on Farms

An image of the rural tranquillity and beauty of farming is a powerfully persuasive one that is commonplace in much of our culture.

However, the reality of 21st century farming in the developed world is usually a thousand miles away from the imaginary utopia of a pseudo-19th century backdrop.

Today’s farms are largely production facilities with, for example, significant amounts of farm machinery in use. Almost inevitably where you have human beings and powerful moving machinery in close proximity, accidents happen and that’s why the following FAQs on first aid for farmers might be important to you.

Please note that nothing below should be read as qualified first aid medical advice.

What sort of first aid training should people working on farms have?

There are first aid training courses designed with farming personnel specifically in mind.

What they might cover may vary slightly from one course to another but they will all certainly include basics such as how to respond to:

  • Coronary and circulatory emergencies, such as heart attacks and strokes etc.
  • Electrocution
  • Crushing or cutting injuries, including blood loss
  • CPR
  • Wound dressing
  • Choking
  • Etc.

How much basic first aid equipment should I have on-site?

That depends very much upon the size and nature of your farm, the first-aid skills you have available and the law.

Certainly no responsible farming business should be without a substantial and good quality first-aid kit sufficient to meet the minimum requirements of the law.

In other situations, it might be advisable to have on-site or easily accessible, things such as defibrillators, blankets and emergency oxygen. A healthcare professional will advise you about this on an approved course.

Should I always attempt first aid in a crisis?

Certainly if someone has suffered a sudden attack of illness or an accident, you should provide whatever assistance is appropriate for the circumstances. In essence, simply talking to reassure someone while waiting for an ambulance could be considered to be a form of first aid – assuming that was all that was required.

First aid training is all about recognizing the nature of the problem and the most appropriate actions to take pending the arrival of expert assistance. That can and does save lives.

Sometimes first aid training is also about teaching people when not to intervene but to wait for a qualified professional instead. For example, trying to get someone who has been injured to drink, whilst waiting for qualified medical assistance, might be ill-advised and possibly dangerous.

In some cases, apart from making the injured party comfortable, it may be more appropriate to do little or nothing and applying unnecessary or inappropriate first aid may actually make the position worse.

That expertise needs to be learned.

Why are there insurance issues involved?

If you have some form of professional agricultural insurance, there will probably be a clause requiring you to comply with all the legal obligations associated with your type of business.

So, for example, if you fail to provide minimum first aid facilities as required under law, you may be putting at risk elements of your professional insurance cover in certain circumstances.

However, this can be a complicated area. It would be sensible to speak to your insurance provider in order to obtain the full details of what they will expect you to provide, as a minimum, in the area of first aid facilities and trained staff, in order to meet the obligations inherent in your policy.

Even Superheroes Visit The Eye Doctor

There are a few characteristics that come to mind when we think of our favorite superheroes: tall, strong, fast, and brave. However, optically impaired isn’t one of the first traits to come to mind. Although it seems like a contradiction given the countless powers superheroes possess, it turns out that quite a few caped crusaders require regular trips to the eye doctor.

Superman and Spiderman, arguably two of the most popular superheroes in the world, both wear glasses. Or at least they do when they’re leading their normal lives as Clark Kent and Peter Parker, rather than saving the world. Fans have spent years trying to figure out how the citizens of Metropolis haven’t noticed that Clark Kent is Superman, since the only difference between Kent and his alter ego are the glasses he wears for his day job at the Daily Planet. Peter Parker, who works for a different newspaper, also wears his glasses on the job. Although it’s fairly certain that Parker doesn’t need his glasses after acquiring a plethora of powers from his radioactive spider bite, wearing them seems to be a habit he can’t break.

Another category of superhero that enjoys nice eyewear is the scientist. Bruce Banner, the emotionally reserved physicist who we know better as the Hulk, was likely wearing his specs when he was exposed to the deadly gamma energy that gave him the ability to morph into his gigantic green alter ego. Banner is seen wearing glasses in both the comics and the latest Avengers films, where he’s played by actor Mark Ruffalo. The demure frames greatly add to the contrast between the quiet scientist and the destructive monster. Banner undoubtedly made a few trips to the eye doctor to replace the frames he’s constantly shattering whenever he morphs into the Hulk.

Another scientist who’s almost constantly wearing spectacles is Hank McCoy, better known as Beast from X-Men. Beast has been sporting his glasses since before he underwent his progressive transformation to the fanged, furry blue mutant we know and love. As a biochemist and geneticist, teacher at the Xavier Institute, and a mutant activist, Beast always appears incredibly composed and intelligent. His frames definitely give him an edge up.

Another X-Men character with interesting eyewear is Scott Summers, better known as Cyclops. His specs aren’t there to cure nearsightedness, however; they prevent him from frying people with the powerful beams of energy he emits from his eyes. In a way, Cyclops can thank his eye doctor for giving him a normal life, or at least as normal as life can be for a mutant crime fighter. Another superhero rocking interesting eyewear is Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil. Daredevil doesn’t wear glasses, but since being blinded by a radioactive substance, Murdock has worn them in his civilian guise. Although it sounds like a bummer, Murdock looks awesome in his glasses, and the radioactive substance made his other senses superhuman, giving him the ability to fight crime.

So the next time you’re at your eye doctor, know that you’re in good company!

Computer Power On Self Test

Once the computer is powered up, the first job is to check whether all the components of the computer are properly working or not. This job is done by BIOS through a series of tests known as Power On Self Test (POST in short form). POST is carried out by BIOS which resides on the computer motherboard. The primary objective of POST is to provide diagnostic information about the computer to the user.

Sequence Of POST

When the computer is switched on, BIOS is activated first. BIOS is a hard coded program, embedded on the motherboard, which boots up the computer. It also store the hardware configuration data. Every-time the computer is powered up, BIOS loads the configuration data in the main memory first and then executes POST.

Computer components checked by POST

POST checks the health of all computer components. Some of very crucial components are checked first. Generally power supply, BIOS, memory, heating and cooling, hardware tests are executed in the mentioned order. Hardware tests include keyboard, monitor, mouse, printer and scanner testing.

Detailed operation of POST

When the CPU is reset, BIOS starts POST execution. Code execution starts from reset vector. In the case of cold boot, the POST is executed from flash memory, while in the case of warm boot, POST is executed from RAM. The first job of POST is to confirm the integrity of BIOS code itself. Once the BIOS code is verified, it finds the size of system memory and runs a memory test on system memory. After that, system buses are detected, tested and then initialized. If any other system BIOS is present then control is passed to it. POST provides an user interface to system configuration. It detects, organizes and initializes all devices which are present during booting. It also constructs system environment which is required by the target OS.

Diagnostic Information

Once the POST execution is over, the result is produced to the user. Basically there are two types of diagnostic information, namely- POST Codes, Beep Codes. POST codes generate a visual symbol of two characters which indicates to what extent POST is carried out. Beep codes occur if the motherboard is working well or if there are issues. In most cases only one beep is heard, if the result of POST is OK and the mother board is functioning properly. In case, POST execution throws a result showing a failure, PC support will be required to fix the issue.

POST Codes

The initial value of most of the POST codes is 00, FF or 88 by default. After the POST execution is over and error code,if any, is displayed, the value of POST codes will return back to 00,FF or 88. Once the BIOS releases control of the motherboard to the operating system there are no more POST codes.

Beep Codes

After the diagnostic tests are executed, a series of beeps is generated by the BIOS from from the loudspeaker attached to motherboard to indicate error codes. Beep codes differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. Generally 1 short beep indicates that the computer system is OK while 2 short beeps signal some system problems. In case, if any problem occurs, it should be resolved directly or through remote support.

Classifying Drugs of Abuse

When you plan to confront an employee or loved one about drug and / or alcohol abuse, it is important to know the all the facts, not just about the addiction, but about the drugs involved. Health professionals who specialize in addiction and recovery are aware of the damage drug and alcohol abuse can do to a person's health, finances, and personal and professional relationships. When you contact somebody for help in these matters, you will be made aware of the consequences if immediate action is not taken.

The more you know about controlled substances, the better equipped you will be to help those in need of rehabilitation and recovery. Drugs of abuse typically fall into specific categories:

  • Cannaboids – marijuana, hashish
  • Depressants – barbiturates and various prescription drugs
  • Dissociative Anesthetics – ketamine, PCP
  • Hallucinogens – LSD, peyote
  • Opioids – morphine, various prescription drugs
  • Stimulants – cocaine, methamphetamine
  • Inhalants – nitrites, aerosols
  • Alcohol – beer, wine, spirits

The sources for these drugs may vary. They may be purchased illegally from dealers, obtained through forged prescriptions or theft, and in some case bought legally. Certain household objects, like model glue and aerosol sprays, may also be abused to achieve a dangerous, addictive high. Regardless of whether or not a drug is legal, the fact remains that any substance with addictive properties can be abused, and if addictive behavior is not treated it can lead to health and mental problems, perhaps permanent brain damage or death.

If you believe somebody you love is abusing drugs, you are encouraged to learn more about the various narcotics and controlled substances that keep thousands in addiction each year. Know what to look for, then contact a physician or rehabilitation clinic today to learn more about the intervention and detox services.

Hyperacusis – Sensitivity To Noise

Hyperacusis is a bothersome condition related to and often accompanied by tinnitus–ringing in the ears. Hyperacusis is also generally misunderstood by lay people and physicians alike. It is often described as sensitivity to sound, or noise sensitivity. It literally means super hearing–perceiving sound as louder than it is. It represents a reduction in your threshold of comfort for sound, and is caused by an alteration in a sound-processing system in your brain. Sometimes referred to as sensitive ears or tender ears, hyperacusis actually originates in the brain rather than in the ears. Perhaps the biggest problem sufferers experience is fear of sound–fear that loud sounds will permanently damage their hearing. Examples of sounds that may be painful to their ears include an acoustic guitar, a passing truck on a city street, clanging dishes in a noisy restaurant, or booming sounds in a movie theater. Even individuals who habitually speak loudly, or who raise their voices to be heard in a noisy environment, such as a busy restaurant, or at a party. The natural tendency is to seek silence-sweet, comfortable silence. And what is the worst possible thing for these people? Sweet, comfortable silence.

Nerve cells in the brain need sound in order to function normally. They don’t do well when idle, so if there’s no sound to hear, they recall earlier sounds and then attempt (poorly) to duplicate them-this causes tinnitus, a frequent companion of hyperacusis. Like many sensory sensations, sound is interpreted in relation to other sounds. If you’ve just listened to a loud recording or a fireworks display and somebody walks past whistling a tune, you probably won’t hear the whistling at all. But if you awaken from a deep sleep in a silent room in the middle of the night, and the same whistler walks past your open window, it seems so loud that you could hear it from across the block. Why does that happen? Because a low level of sound results in an increased sensitivity of hearing. For example, when you wear ear plugs to block out most sound, your hearing system becomes super attentive, literally searching for sound. Whatever gets through seems far louder than it actually is. Conversely, if you keep some background sound around you at all times, such as a radio or CD playing, or a waterfall or fountain, other sounds will not seem nearly as loud or uncomfortable. The hearing system thrives best when performing its basic function of receiving external sounds. Sounds of 75 or 80 dB that seem dangerously loud or uncomfortable when you have hyperacusis will not damage your ears. Prolonged or repeated exposure to noise levels above 85dB will harm anybody’s hearing, and levels above 140dB may cause permanent damage with a single exposure.

As with tinnitus, affected individuals must undergo a through examination by a qualified Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose and Throat specialist.) Once this exam is completed, many of the same therapies can be used that have proven effective for tinnitus. Medication is rarely necessary, but Anxiety Relief Techniques® can be very effective. Remember to perfuse your environment with sound because a sound-rich background is essential. Play a radio, CDs, listen to music or conversation on TV, or even purchase a re-circulating fountain. It doesn’t have to be loud, just a comfortable level. It is always a good idea to protect your ears with quality earplugs from really loud or painful sounds, but remove earplugs for normal everyday activities and noises. Gradually increase the amount and level of sound around you and see how quickly you’ll improve. The biggest relief generally comes when you know that 1) there is nothing physically wrong with your ears, 2) normal sounds will not damage your hearing, and 3) you have nothing to fear from this sound sensitivity.

Gluten Sensitivity and Graves Disease

Many people with Graves' Disease have a gluten sensitivity problem. This not only can exacerbate their condition, but for those looking to restore their health back to normal through a natural treatment protocol it can make it difficult to accomplish this.

Gluten sensitivity is becoming more and more common. When I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease and followed a natural treatment protocol, for the first 30 days of the protocol I avoided gluten-based foods. I recommend for my patients to do the same thing, and some people will need to avoid these foods for a longer period of time. And of course some people do need to avoid gluten-based foods on a permanent basis.

How To Determine If Someone With Graves' Disease Is Allergic To Gluten

In order to determine whether someone with Graves' Disease has a gluten sensitivity or intolerance, the proper testing needs to be performed. There are different types of tests which can do this, and chances are you will need to consult with a holistic doctor in order to receive the appropriate testing. What's important to understand is that while many people who are sensitive to gluten react to it and have noticeable symptoms, not everyone will have overt symptoms.

So does this mean that I test every person for a gluten sensitivity? Actually, I usually do not recommend for every new patient to obtain such testing. There are a few reasons for this. One reason is because such testing is expensive, and there are usually other tests I find to be more important than this which I recommend. A second reason for this is because regardless of the test results, I still have people avoid gluten for at least 30 days upon following a natural treatment protocol. I find that some people who are gluten sensitive or even intolerant can begin eating gluten again after restoring their digestive health. So for many people it actually makes sense to do this type of testing after they follow a natural treatment protocol. Of course different doctors will have different approaches, and so I do not disagree with those doctors who recommend such testing for everyone immediately, as this is just the approach I take.

Should You Avoid Gluten For The Rest Of Your Life?

Some "experts" will recommend for anyone with a gluten sensitivity or intolerance to avoid gluten for the rest of their life. In fact, many will recommend that EVERYONE avoid gluten on a permanent basis, regardless of whether they are sensitive or not. Once again, some people will need to avoid gluten for as long as they live. But to tell every single person to avoid gluten for the rest of their life is in my opinion a little bit extreme.

When it comes to Graves' Disease and other autoimmune conditions, some suggest that gluten is the primary factor causing the autoimmune response. Of course gluten will trigger an immune system response for someone who is allergic to it. This is the case with anything else someone is allergic to as well. Without question gluten can exacerbate Graves 'Disease, but this does not mean that in most people with Graves' Disease it's the direct cause. While the focus these days seems to be on gluten because it is in many different foods and many people react negatively to it, one also can not neglect other allergens as well.

This is why I not only have people with hyperthyroidism and Graves' Disease avoid gluten-based foods while following a natural treatment protocol, but other common allergens as well. As I mentioned earlier, the only surefire way of ruling out such allergens is through the proper testing. For example, I've had patients who obtained an ELISA test and found out that they had some allergies to healthy, whole foods. Some people are allergic to certain nuts and seeds, which can potentially cause problems while following a natural treatment protocol. Some people are also allergic to poultry, and even certain fruits and vegetables. The point is, gluten is not the only thing people are allergic to, and therefore it's not the only factor that can cause a condition such as Graves' Disease to flare up.

How To Cure A Gluten Sensitivity Or Intolerance Problem

Some people wonder whether it is possible to cure their gluten sensitivity or intolerance problem. Some people can overcome this problem, but not everybody. For those who successfully overcome this problem they usually need to avoid all gluten-based foods for at least three months, and frequently longer than this. In addition to avoiding all gluten-based foods for a prolonged period of time, it is also important to eat well, and to avoid other common allergens. It also might be necessary to take certain nutritional supplements and herbs to help restore your digestive health. After this period some people can consume gluten-based foods again without a problem, although not everybody.

Sometimes a gluten-sensitivity or intolerance problem can not be cured, but can managed by taking certain enzymes, such as those containing papain. Once again, not everyone will be able to eat gluten-based foods when doing this, but some people claim that taking these digestive enzymes before they eat gluten-based foods will allow them to tolerate these foods.

In summary, people with Graves' Disease who have a gluten-sensitivity or intolerance problem can sometimes overcome this problem by avoiding these foods for three to six months, along with incorporating other dietary changes. For those who can not cure this problem, they will definitely need to minimize, and in some cases completely eliminate gluten from their diet for the rest of their life. Sometimes taking certain digestive enzymes can help people better to tolerate gluten, so this is definitely worth a try.

Health Information Systems

A developing area in healthcare that is supposed to enhance the quality of care given to patients is health information technology or medical information technology. The purpose of HIT is to eliminate and prevent medical errors completely. Basically, HIT is when health information is exchanged in an electronic environment. HIT professionals make use of health information systems and are tasked with several responsibilities that consist of maintaining the privacy and security of electronic health information during transmission.

HIS are systems that many use for analyzing information obtained from various resources. The data gathered is used for health services management. These include computers and also clinical guidelines that are utilized in medical research, patient care, and other portions of health care.

Technicians of health information systems are given duties that have to do with compiling, processing, maintaining medical files and data of hospital and clinical patients. This is achieved in a way that abides by legal, medical, ethical, administrative, and regulatory requirements of the medical system. Those who want to enter this industry will have to earn a degree in this field and get certified as well. With certification you will have more opportunities available, along with better pay.

Health information systems technicians are responsible for many things. These consist of getting patient healthcare files for physicians, technicians, and other medical professionals, safekeeping medical records to ensure confidentiality, releasing the files to personnel and agencies based on the regulations, going through records for completeness, accuracy and in compliance with regulations, and also developing, planning, operating, and maintaining various healthcare record storage and retrieval systems to have the opportunity to acquire, store, classify, or analyze information.

Individuals who want to enter medical information systems careers must go through training to gain crucial skills. Skills that will be learned include active listening, reading comprehension, critical thinking, speaking, and also monitoring. These activities are essential in the medical field and will help you work better in your job. Other than these skills, you will also need to obtain knowledge on the clerical and administrative process, finding out how to communicate efficiently with the English language, offering customer and personal service, knowledge with computers and electronics, and also knowledge about law and government.

Pursuing a health information technology career is definitely a wise option. Even if it is new in the healthcare industry, it is booming quickly and turning out to be more crucial in providing proper patient care. Technology is advancing and healthcare must stay up to date and systems must be improved constantly to provide the best to the public. Making use of health information systems provides health services that are more efficient guaranteeing that patients get the care they require. With the convenience in staying on track with medical records, individuals will also have the chance to get services at an affordable rate. The growing number of medical facilities that are making use of these systems are leading to an increase in employment opportunities in this field.

Tinnitus Treatment Methods

A Brief Look At Differing Tinnitus Treatment Methods

Because tinnitus can be a symptom of an underlying medical condition, individuals should undergo a full examination by a certified ear specialist. Individuals should also have a complete medical examination. Special attention should be given to blood pressure, kidney function, drug intake, diet, and allergies, as these factors are sometimes associated with tinnitus.

Currently, there is no single treatment for tinnitus. Tinnitus treatment generally involves a multi-disciplinary approach and includes a variety of symptom management methods.

Conventional Drug Therapy:

While many drugs have been researched and used to relieve tinnitus, there is no drug specifically designed for tinnitus treatment. For people with chronic tinnitus, drug treatments may offer some success. Drugs that have been studied and used to treat tinnitus include anti-anxiety, antidepressants, antihistamines, anticonvulsants and anesthetics. While many people have been successful in better managing their tinnitus symptoms, drug therapy can have serious side effects.

Alternative Treatments:

Many people have experienced tinnitus relief from the use of herbal preparations, homeopathic remedies, and vitamin and mineral regimens. Others have benefited from acupuncture, cranio-sacral therapy, magnets, hyperbaric oxygen, or hypnosis. Some individuals find massage therapy and energy-work, such as reiki, to be beneficial treatments for tinnitus. Although some individuals have reported a mild allergic reaction to herbal preparations, most alternative treatments carry very little risk.

Cochlear Implants: A cochlear implant is a device that sends electrical sound from the ear to the brain. An electrode is threaded into the cochlea (spiral-shaped cavity of the inner ear) and a receiver is implanted just beneath the skin behind the ear. Because electrode implantation destroys any remaining healthy hair cells, cochlear implants are only prescribed to deaf or near-deaf patients.

Tinnitus Maskers:

A non-medical option used to reduce or "mask" unwanted noise. Tinnitus maskers are worn like a hearing aid to produce a neutral white sound. Over 60% of patients with severe tinnitus report relief. A newer device is a tinnitus instrument, which is a combination hearing aid and masker. This device teaches the brain how to ignore tinnitus noise. Individuals must be tested and fitted for the tinnitus instrument.

Hearing Aids:

Some tinnitus patients with hearing loss experience total or partial tinnitus relief while wearing hearing aids. Amplification from the hearing aid allows the aid wearer to hear background sounds, which takes away from the focus on the tinnitus noise.

Biofeedback: This relaxation technique has a 25-year history of successful treatment for pain and stress-related disorders. Biofeedback teaches people how to control certain body functions including pulse, muscle tension and skin temperature. The goal when using biofeedback for tinnitus treatment, is to decrease stress and anxiety levels that may be contributing to tinnitus. Biofeedback tinnitus therapy may require weekly sessions over several months before improvement is noticed. However, up to 80% of patients find some relief of their tinnitus symptoms and 20% have reported total relief.

Test Your Computer Speed

Test your computer speed; this way you will find if your speed really is what you paid for.

There are many ways to test your computer’s speed and many of them are free online… now how reliable they are is a different story, but I’ll leave that up to you. First, checking your computer’s speed, this is so easy; my son can do it and is just 4 years old. There are many websites you can do this for free. Just Google the phrase ‘check computer’s speed’ and you’ll end up with millions of hits, but you can just go to one of the first few on the list.

One of the best and most accurate tests your computer speed sites, for me anyway, is: speakeasy (just Google this word and you will find it). All you have to do is follow or type in this link, choose the geographical location you’re closet to; this is for accuracy of the test, then hit check speed. It only takes a minute and it checks your download and uploads speed.

Check your processors speed

Another thing to check for speed on a slower computer is checking your processor speed. This requires a download, but still, a monkey could do it. First, open your web browser and search for a website that offers a CPU speed testing program. In this case, I will use a program called ‘CPU Speed professional.’

The reason I’m choosing this program is because it has a free version and it’s gotten good reviews. This program will accurately check the ‘real’ speed of your Central processing Unit (CPU) and while you are at it, you can submit your results to the CPU Speed online WORLD benchmark and ranking tables to see how your computer compares with others…in your country and around the world.

Getting back on how to use it, go to your web browser and navigate to CPU Speed Professional or you can use the link: http://www.cpuspeedpro.com/. Once you’ve downloaded the software, follow the on-screen instructions (again, a monkey could do it) to install the program. When you’re done installing it, double-click on the desktop icon it leaves behind for your convenience (personally I HATE desktop clutter, thank you for ‘docks’). Once you’ve done that, click on the ‘Show CPU Speed” on the left side of the programs window and it will give you details such as: the make, the model, and the advertised speed of your computers CPU.

Next, in order to get the most accurate reading possible, close every other program that’s currently running. Click on the ‘Test CPU Speed’ button at the top of the window to start the testing process. Let the test run it’s course and then click on the ‘View Results’ button to see the speed of your processor is running at. Simple! Once again, there are many free and online test sites for your computer. Just Google ‘Test your computer speed’ and carefully read each one then choose the one that fits best for you.

Test speed is okay, but your PC is very slow? Why?

Many people do these tests to understand why their PC is so slow. If you are one of them, read this carefully:

Most of the computers are slow not only of the lack of your PC performance, but especially because of a full hard drive on C: (start deleting movies you already saw them, videos, mp3’s, unnecessary files… start cleaning), because of too many programs lunched at startup, un-fragmented hard drive, a virus or spyware reside on your pc and mostly… a mess on your registry. We will not talk about all these now; I just told you what the problem with a slow computer is generically.
