Shoulder Pain, Injury and Treatment

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports shoulder pain afflicts nearly 1 in 10 people. Shoulders have a range of motion greater than any other human joint. It is no wonder they are frequently injured!

Shoulder Injuries: As a personal injury attorney, I represent clients who have suffered serious shoulder injuries and broken bones as the result of being in an accident. Injury to the shoulder may occur when a bicyclist is hit by a car in a crosswalk, in a grocery store fall when someone slips and falls on a spill on the floor or falls in a pothole or other tripping hazard as well as in pedestrian / car collisions.

Shoulder Anatomy: Shoulders are the most commonly dislocated joint. The shoulder is not put together as snugly as our body's other ball and socket joints. Shoulder sockets are shallower, flatter, and the balls (the upper end of the top arm bones) have to be held in position by a lot of soft tissue.

Shoulder Problems: Aside from wear and tear, shoulders are susceptible to many other injuries.Problems more often occurs in the ligaments and tendons of the shoulder rather than in the bones. Doctors may diagnose the precise location of shoulder pain by performing an examination, or through x-rays or an MRI.

Types of Shoulder Injuries: Dislocation: When the ball-shape top of the upper arm (humerus) becomes dropped out of its socket (glenoid) the surrounding soft tissue is stretched and often torn, causing a lot of swelling and pain in the shoulder. As a result, the supporting ligaments in the front of the shoulder may become damaged. Dislocation of the shoulder can cause excruciating pain. A doctor can usually maneuver the arm back into place, although sometimes shoulder surgery is indicated.

A dislocated shoulder injury is frequently the result of a slip and fall accident or pedestrian or bicycle accident. The nature of the injury makes it more vulnerable to future dislocation. When this occurs in an older adult, the damage may be more severe, due to soft tissue becoming with age.

Treatment for a Dislocated Shoulder: Treatment generally includes rest, cold packs, pain medicine, muscle relaxants, and physical therapy. Separation: A separated shoulder happens not in the ball-and-socket joint but close to the neck, at the point where the top of the shoulder blade (scapula) meets the collarball called the clavicle. The ligaments holding the two bones together are stretched or torn.

Treatment for Separated Shoulder: Treatment for a separated shoulder joint injury usually involves rest, ice, pain relievers, and physical therapy.

Rotator Cuff Injury: The rotator cuff is the structure that holds the ball of the shoulder in its socket and enterprises four muscles and several tendons that are attached to the ball, beneath the deltoid and pectoralis muscles. A rotator cuff injury can progress from inflammation to partial tears, small tears, and larger tears. One of the tendons in an injured rotator cuff may begin to detach from the arm bone. Symptoms include pain in the shoulder and upper arm which becomes worse with time and when the arm is lifted overhead or lowered.

Treatment for rotator cuff tears: If used early, they may be treated with rest, ice and an anti-inflammatory, and physical therapy. Ultrasound, along with a steroid cream, can reduce inflammation and increase blood flow, which speeds up healing. Tendons may be reattached using arthroscopic surgery, in more serious shoulder rotator cuff tears.

Frozen Shoulder: Some people, who have an injured shoulder requiring immobilization as part of their treatment plan, suffer what is called, frozen shoulder. This is caused when the shoulder is immobile and scar tissue forms locking the shoulder joint into place.

Treatment for Frozen Shoulder: Frozen shoulder can be quite painful and is sometimes treated with an anti-inflammatory, heat and stretching. More serious cases require the injection of stereoids into the shoulder joint or electrical stimulation. When frozen shoulder does not respond to conservative care, doctors perform a forced manipulation under anesthesia to actually free the joint from the scar tissue.

Are You at Risk For a Hip Fracture?

If you are over the age of 65 or have osteoporosis, move yourself to the top of the list, please. Especially if you are a woman, step forward. One in two women will experience a bone fraction in their lifetime; and, one of the most common breaks is in the hip.

In the majority of cases, individuals are susceptible to hip fractures due to a natural loss of minerals in the bones and reduced density as we age. Women, by virtue of their biological make-up are more prone than men to have hip fractures due to longevity. Typically, hip fractures in the younger generations are due to car crashes.

So, anyone can have a hip fraction, but women over the age of 65 have a 50% chance of falling and breaking a hip. While many people laugh at the commercial for life alert devices, when the elder woman says, "I have fallen and I can not get up", there is nothing humorous about coping with a hip fraction.

How to Prevent a Hip Fracture

If you are at risk for hip fracture, it is extremely important to take good care of your bones. A daily regimen of calcium tablets coupled with osteoporosis medication may be necessary to improve bone density, or at least prevent bones from becoming even more fragile.

For those elderly citizens that still remain independently at home, it is also imperative to do everything possible to prevent potential falls in the house. If the phone is out of reach, it could be some time before help arrives. So, many seniors now have an alert necklace. If a fall occurs, pushing the button will notify family and medical personnel that you need help now.

Beyond that measure, it is also important to admit when daily tasks have become difficult and potentially dangerous. For example, many seniors suffer hip fractures due to falls in the tub or shower. Thus shower benches or chairs, in addition to installed handrails can make a big difference in home safety and prevention of hip fractures.

Low Impact Exercise can make a Difference

What most people do not consider is the benefit of low impact exercises in the prevention of hip fractures. Understandably a daily mile run or walk is not a reasonable expectation. But, exercises like water aerobics can help strengthen the muscles around the hip joints, which give them more support and also aids in preventing hip fracture falls.

Now What?

In summary, just because senior citizens have a 50% chance of breaking a bone, especially hip fractures, it does not have to be a foregone collusion. Instead, understanding how to prevent hip fractures can make living at home a lot safer and more pleasant. In addition, exercises and calcium supplements can help reduce the odds of becoming a statistical.

When taking care of the body, following a doctor's advice, and taking precedence against a fall can make change the probable course of the future, why take unnecessary chances. Prevent hip fractures today and have a more pleasant tomorrow.

Know Your Muscles – The Lower Body

Becoming familiar with the muscles that make up your body has more benefits than simply allowing you to talk shop with your training partners. The more familiar you are with the muscles you’re working, the better you’ll be able to judge what’s needed to make improvements. In this article we’ll get to know the muscles that make up the lower body.

This is where you’ll find the big, strong muscles that allow us to get around. The main muscles found below the waist are as follows:

1. Quadriceps femoris – this is a group of four muscles found at the front of the thigh. These are the vastus lateralis on the outside, the vastus medialis on the inside, the vastus intermedius between them, and the rectus femoris above them. The role of these muscles is to extend the leg from a bent position.

2. Hamstrings – these are found to the rear of the leg and consist of the biceps femoris, semitendinosus and semimembranosus. The hamstrings are used to flex the knee in the act of pulling the heel towards the buttocks.

3. Gluteals – these make up the buttocks and consist of the gluteus maximus covering the hip joint and the gluteus medius and minimus on the outside of the hip. The gluteus maximus facilitates hip extension while the other two lift the leg to the side in an action called hip abduction.

4. Hip flexors – these are found opposite the glutes on the front of the pelvis. Consisting of the psoas major and iliacus they raise the leg to the front.

5. Calves – these consist of the gastrocnemius and the soleus. Their role is to extend the foot at the ankle.

Los Angeles Cerebral Palsy Attorneys

Cerebral Palsy is a broad term that describes a group of neurological disorders, causing a permanent state of uncoordinated movement and posturing. It is the result of an episode that causes a lack of oxygen to the brain. Birth injuries that may result in cerebral palsy are a failure of hospital staff to order, a C-Section birth in a timely manner. CP is also the result of excessive use, of a vacuum extractor, failure to treat seizures following birth, and improper delivery. Victims of cerebral palsy require specialized care and therapy and will need assistance through their lives, depending on the severity of the disorder.

Medical malpractice lawyers handle cerebral palsy lawsuits, caused by negligent doctor error and mistakes. Every mistake does not necessarily determine a medical malpractice case. Doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare providers, are obliged to follow certain standards of medical care in treating their patients. When they fail to do so, and cause injury or even death, there may be a potential medical malpractice claim. An attorney, who specializes in this area of law, reviews the medical records to determine if, in fact, a case for medical malpractice exists. Attorneys ensure that the child will be taken care of in the long term, and the child's parents are compensated for their emotional suffering.

Each state has its own Statute of Limitations, which means there is a time limit on bringing a malpractice claim. Keeping in mind these variations, it is obvious that sentences will differ from state to state. It is important to first determine how and when the negligence was caused. This step involves detailed scrutiny of private health care providers or public institutions that have worked with the patient. Attorneys practice on a contingency fee. Law firms in Los Angeles can be contacted directly or through referrals on websites.

The Symptoms of Bells Palsy

One the main differences between Bell's Palsy and other types of facial paralysis is the speed with which it appears. People wake up one morning and they have it. Within the same 24 hours all the symptoms have been identified. It can, however, take a little longer; perpendicular to 72 hours as did my experience. When this happens, it is easy to panic about what is going to happen next. Remember, this will only affect your face. It is the 7th cranial nerve that has been affected and only that nerve.

This is a list of the most common physical symptoms of Bell's Palsy. This is not an exhaustible list and you may or may not get some or all of them.

Most common symptoms of unilateral Bell's Palsy.

  • Facial muscle weakness or a paralysis of the facial muscles on one side of the face.
  • Wrinkling of the skin disappears (ironically you will be so happy as they start to come back)
  • An inability to completely close the eye on the side of the paralysis
  • A permanently watery eye or a constantly dry eye due to the above.
  • Inability to raise the eyebrow on the affected side
  • Lower eyelid extremely drooped, allowing more of the eye surface to be exposed to dust, dirt and water.
  • Pain in or near the ear
  • Sensitivity to sound in one ear (Hyperacusis)
  • Diminished or distorted taste in the front two thirds of the tongue (sweetness and saltiness)
  • As things start to improve you may feel either a tingling or slow pain, or experience experience twitching before that muscle "wakes up" and starts to work again. I must warn you here that sometimes they can wake up and then go back to sleep which is very upsetting (they do wake again though usually) Believe me, as ridiculous as this sounds, it is one of the most wonderful experiences in this whole event when you get a new "twitch".

To summarize all the above it is very difficult or impossible to show any facial expression including a smile on the affected side of your face. If analysis develops slowly, over more than 24-72 hours or you develop other symptoms anywhere else than the affected side of your face then return immediately to your doctor and inform him of your concerns. This could be a different condition that could require different tests and treatment ..

If this is not the first time you have had Bell's Palsy fret not. However, if it has only been a short time since your last experience then it would have been better to have some further testing just to make sure that there is no other condition underlying that may be causing the attacks. Your doctor will most likely recommend this to you anyway.

Information On Hiatias Hiatus

The hiatus hernia is the partial drift of the stomach through the diaphragmatic muscle isolating the abdomen from the thorax. The only symptoms are often chest pains and heartburn; in several cases an operation is available but in moderate cases the condition can be deled with drugs.

The stomach usually goes up into the chest by the esophageal hole which is the weakest point between abdomen and chest cavity. There are two most common types of hiatus hernia: one occurs when the upper sphincter binding esophagus and stomach slides up through the diaphragm and the other when a part of the stomach gets into the chest beside the esophagus.

Risk factors for hiatus hernias are smoking, age over 50, obesity and pregnancy. The age weakens the diaphragm, coughing due to smoke and overweight increase the pressure inside the abdomen. Rarely a congenital hiatus hernia occurs when the diaphragm or the stomach has not developed correctly during the intra uterine life.

Refined hernial symptoms are burning sensations oa feeling of warmth both called heartburn and caused by the reflux of the acid gastric content into the esophagus. If symptoms persist and get worse in time, the condition is called gastroesophageal reflux disease. This hernia can also cause pain and discomfort behind the sternum and mime a heart attack.

Hiatus hernia symptoms usually get worse after eating, drinking coffee or hot drinks, and lying down or bending forward. Spicy foods will generate burnings as well. All these symptoms are more likely to be caused by indigestion so certain diagnose of hiatus hernia can only be established after several testing.

Occidentally, hiatus hernias can lead to severe complication due to the acid reflux into the lower part of the esophagus. Acid damages can produce an ulceration of the esophageal layers in time and pain, burning sensations will worsen. Bleeding ulcers can cause patients to vomit blood. Immediate medical consult is required to stop the bleeding. Bleeding ulcers also lead to anemia and the body is in lack of sufficient red blood cells to support a healthy oxygenation.

When healing, esophageal ulcers can cause strictures; this will lead to regurgitation and difficult, painful swallowing.

The hiatus hernia increases the risk of Barrett esophagus, a pre-malign stage when the outer layer cells change their anatomy and function. Individuals with gastroesophageal reflux are more likely to develop esophageal cancer.

All patients with indigestion symptoms must be seen by a gastroenterologist and undergo a barium X-ray that can detect a hiatus hernia and an endoscopy with a long telescope introduced into the abdomen.

Penis Enlargement Surgery

Things to Know About the Cost of Penis Enlargement Surgery

According to a survey conducted by the Lifestyles Condom Corporation, the penis size of more than 70% men is between five and seven inches when identified. One popular myth about penis size is that the larger the penis, the higher is the sexual satisfaction. Whether or not the size of penis really matters in sex is debatable. However, that does not stop men (and women) from fantasizing a big penis! Did you know that the average penis size is 5.877 inches? A recent survey by Lifestyles Condom Co. revealed this fact. This may inspire some men to put more efforts in their penis enlargement mission so that they can quickly take the organ beyond average. If you are one of the many aspirants striving for male enhancement, you should try penis enlargement Surgery. While some pills and patches may lead to adverse side effects,

Penis enlargement surgery, also referred to as phalloplasty, is an artificial method of penis reconstruction. According to the book, The First Man-Made Man, the first phalloplasty was done by Dr. Harold Gillies in 1946. Although initially the purpose was sexual reassignment, later the surgical process was used for the purpose of penis enlargement as well.

Many men who are not confident about the size of their organ undergo a surgery in order to achieve larger than average size penis. Although there are several other techniques to increase penis size, such as taking pills and doing penis exercises, the surgical method is somehow the best way of achieving a larger size organ.

The cost of surgery may vary a lot based on the nature and complicacy of a medical case. Here in this article, we will take a look at certain important factors regarding the expenses of a penis enlargement surgery.

What You Should Know About the Cost of Penis Enlargement Surgery

The cost of penis enlargement surgery can be divided into two parts – surgical costs and post-surgical costs. Following are the four major things you must know about a surgical process and the costs associated with it:

1. The method
A large portion of the penis is located inside the body. The part outside is what you measure as the penis size. Usually the suspensory ligament, which holds the penis in place from outside, is cut and stretched out in the surgical process. Some surgeries may also require implanting skin and fat from other parts of the body to the penis.

2. The cost
As penis surgery is a complicated process, it may be quite expensive. If, however, you can find a reliable medical center for doing the surgery, you can get it done in a comparatively low cost. The surgical costs include surgeon's fees, anaesthetic costs and charges of surgical center. Furthermore, there are additional charges for post-surgical treatments and follow ups. According to statistics from the Plastic Surgery Portal, the minimum cost of penis enlargement surgery may be around $ 3,500. However, the maximum cost may go all the way up to $ 10,000 or more.

3. Choosing a surgical center
It's important to choose a reliable surgical center for the surgery. You should check the background and reputation of the center before taking a plunge. The qualification and experience of the surgeon is a very important parameter that you must consider. The American Association of Phalloplasty Surgeons (AAPS) was founded with the purpose of providing quality penile cosmetic surgery service back in 1994. You may consider getting your surgery done under the guidance of certified members of AAPS.

4. Insurance coverage
Penis surgery for cosmetic purpose is not entitled to get any insurance cover. However, some surgical centers may offer discounts and convenient payment options for this type of surgery. It is always good idea to search for reasonable cost options. You can also look for references in your circle.

Diesel Performance – Miracle or Snake Oil

There are so many products out there that seem to be just too good to be true and there are too many people out there that are more than willing to take advantage of another's lack of knowledge. There are also sooo many out there that are willing to play on peoples emotions, you know, the whole "you can have amazing results for practically nothing, and for only minutes a day at no cost to you". We've all heard it before. So what makes diesel performance products, like a chip, or a cold air intake, or an exhaust any different. You might ask yourself, can adding something that small to my vehicle produce as great results as so many people tell me they do? Or will these items really pay for themselves in the form of added fuel economy, and reduced wear and tear on my vehicle? It is these questions about these products that I am going to address, and at the same time educate, because knowledge is power my friends.

If you were to modify a gas engine for performance, you would be required to install a different camshaft, bore out the cylinders to increase displacement, install high compression pistons and heads, increase fuel intake capacity by installing a larger carburetor or injection system, adding a turbo charger or supercharger, adding a chip, and enlarging the exhaust system. But then you are still restricted by emission control systems. On the other hand, diesel trucks and cars are mostly turbo charged, and they already run at a higher compression ratio. Whereas on the gas vehicles you would have to make those changes. If you were to make those changes to a gas engine you would definitely have a ground pounding beast, but would lose every day drive ability. The Diesels on the other hand are nice to drive around even with considerable modification. With a cold air intake, a chip, more efficient injectors, and a more open exhaust system, the diesels are still a nice ride, but when you really give it the gas, all heck breaks loose. There is intense power without reducing drive ability.

Because of the nature of diesel engines they are designed from the factory to withstand much higher compression ratios than a gas engine. The diesel fuel combusts when it is compressed to a certain point wherever or not there is optimum air. By simply shooting more fuel into the combustion chamber you can make more power. When you then improve the air ratio & timing of the fuel – you can make dramatic power and also improve engine efficiency. Gasoline requires a spark to ignite it & must have the appropriate mixture of air to burn properly. There is also a lot more energy in a given amount of diesel fuel than in an equal amount of gasoline.

I will now break down the most popular configurations and explain their benefits.

1. A cold air intake is sealed away from the hot engine air, and is located where it can take in more air. Cold air intakes are equipped with a filter that can take in up to 300% more air. Cold air takes up less space. So there can be more air, more air helps to burn all the fuel, so giving more power and better fuel economy.

2. Chips make alterations to how the fuel is delivered to the engine, making it more efficient and more powerful.

3. A larger exhaust or a mandrel bent exhaust (keeps the tube round, and the size constant) improves exhaust flow. Getting exhaust away from the engine is just as important in combustion as getting air into the engine. There are exhausts now that will even vacuum exhaust away from the engine, making it so that the engine does not have to do that work.

All of these modifications add to the fuel economy of the diesel engine, and will over time actually pay for themselves in gas savings, and will continue for years after they are paid for to keep your money in your pocket. Diesels are the wave of the future and more and more economy vehicles are being manufactured in diesel versions because they are capable of so much better economy.

How To Get Rid Of Cold Sores Fast And Resume Your Daily Life

Suddenly you feel the tingling sensation at the edge of your lip. There is no doubt in your mind that a cold sore is coming. Although you can not cure it at the moment or prevent it completely, but you can speed up the healing with the following remedies.

Peppermint Oil

Essential oils can help your cold sores to heal faster. One study shows that peppermint oil can eliminate herpes simplex virus outside the cells in 3 hours. In other words, essential oils are not effective if the virus is hiding in the nerve. To use peppermint oil, you need to dilute it with olive oil because at high concentration, it is toxic. Apply it when you notice the tingling sensation.

Lysine

Taking high dosages of lysine has been found to speed up healing of cold sores. It replaces arginine in the cells. Arginine is the fuel for herpes simplex virus. The lack of arginine in the cells forces the virus to retreat.

You can reduce the consumption of foods that contain arginine. These include grains, chocolate, nuts, and seeds.

If you do not want to take lysine supplements, increase the intake of lysine rich foods such as meat and dairy products. Just make sure they provide between 3000 and 9000 milligrams of lysine daily.

Abreva

Abreva is FDA-approved over-the-counter cream. It contains docosanol or behenyl alcohol that can get rid of cold sores fast. For best results, you have to use it as soon as the first symptom appear. It requires up to 5 applications per day.

Compeed

One study compares the speed of healing between Compeed Cold Sore Patches and acyclovir 5% cream. The result is that Compeed has the similar quick healing abilities as acyclovir cream. According to consumers' reviews, many find that their cold sores clear quickly after patching their sores with Compeed. Unlike topical creams, Compeed is not messy. It is transparent so you do not even know the patch is there. It also prevails the virus from spreading. In addition, it is an ideal remedy for pregnant women who have concerns about prescriptions.

Manage Your Stress

When you are under stress, your immune system weakens. This does not help your body to recover quickly for the herpes outbreak. If you want the cold sores to go away faster, you have to reduce your stress. Take a stroll, or join yoga classes. Modify your hectic schedule to give you time to relax.

The problem I find with today's cold sore remedies is the timing. Most treatments will work the best if you act the moment you spot the tingling sensation. If you fail to do so, it will take longer time for you to resume your daily activities. Although the above remedies can get rid of cold sores quickly but what if you have to attend a major meeting or event tomorrow?

Why Do I Keep Getting Tonsil Stones?

Why do you keep getting tonsil stones? There really is no straightforward answer to that question. Some theories claim that tonsil stones or tonsillitis run in families and it is all about genetics, while other schools of thought claim that it is not heretitary.

While some people who have good oral hygiene practices, brushing their teeth and flossing regularly will still develop tonsil stones. Ironically some other people who have terrible oral hygiene, never bothering much with teeth cleansing on a regular basis much less flossing but never never develop them. That's life, much the same as with any other illness or health problem, it all seems to be down to pot luck. At the moment there is no real scientific evidence to prove which theory is right either way.

Tonsillitis are thought to be a side effect of throat infections and enlarged tonsils which can be as a result of a deficiency in the immune system. Tonsils often have crypts or holes on the surface. Over a period of time these holes can collect a lot of food particles and other debris. This debris will decompose and rot due to the moisture and warm environment of the throat. It can also calcify and become hard and stone like.

Tonsil stones can be dislodged from the back of the throat by gentle prodding with a long object such as toothbrush or cotton wool bud.

Doctor often prescribes antibiotics but these are often not very effective for any length of time

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a good diet and regular exercising goes a long way to keeping fit and healthy, thereby developing a healthy immune system.

Keeping up good oral hygiene by brushing your teeth and flossing after every meal can go a long way to combating the bad breath often associated with tonsillitis. Gargling with warm salt water to eliminate bacteria and germs will also help to banish tonsil stones.

Should Diabetics Eat Bagels?

Should bagels be added to the list of foods diabetics should avoid? Is not it bad enough to ban birthday cake and chocolate cream pie?

For many, bagels have long been considered a healthy food choice. Surely the chewy goodness is better for you than pasty white bread. But what if you learned it was worse?

Both bagels and white bread are made of flour, water, and a few other ingredients. The white flour in standard bagels is the same as that in white bread. Nowadays almost everyone knows white bread is bad for diabetics. It raises blood glucose levels as quickly as table sugar.

So how could a bagel be worse than bread?

A single slice of white bread provides 60-80 calories in the form of carbohydrates. Two slices of toast or bread for a sandwich amounts to about 150 calories. But what about a bagel? A mini-bagel also provides about 150 calories, but a regular-size bagel has 250-300 calories, where one of the yummy over-size varieties can be as much as 500 calories! That's how a bagel can be worse than bread. It's illegally you'll sit down and eat 7-8 slices of bread, but that's exactly what you're doing if you indulge in a large bagel.

All bagels are not created equal in other nutritional greetings. For example, a whole wheat bagel may have about the same calories as a French toast bagel (250 to 300 calories), yet contain only a third as much sugar but three times the fiber. Whole grains take longer for the body to digest and therefore do not elevate the blood sugar as quickly. Dietary fiber improves bowel function and promotes a feeling of satiety (fullness after eating). A bagel loaded with melted cheese will be higher in fat than a blueberry or raisin bagel.

And what about toppings? Two tablespoons of reduced-fat cream cheese adds another 70 calories, not a bad choice for a light breakfast or lunch. However, two tablespoons of peanut butter (or butter, or mayonnaise-based spread) amounts to an additional 200 calories, most of which comes from fat. A better choice would be an equivalent serving of sugar-free preserves (as little as 10 calories per tablespoon) or a few slices of lean turkey breast (about 50 calories).

People like bagels largely due to the texture. It feels like you're eating more when you have to chew more vigorously. That's not a bad thing, especially for diabetics who feel deprived much of the time.

While it's true a diabetic should avoid eating a huge bagel slathered with peanut butter (a 700 calorie fever), a whole-wheat mini-bagel with low-fat cream cheese delivers less than half that many calories and is fair game for the famished female diabetic craving a carbohydrate fix.

Prevention Of Overweight And Obesity

Overweight and Obesity are both are both labels for ranges of weight that are greater than what is considered healthy for a given height. For adults, Overweight and Obesity ranges are determined by using weight and height to calculate a number called the "Body Mass Index" (BMI). BMI is used because for most people, it correlates with their amount of body fat.

An adult who has a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered Overweight

An adult who has a BMI of 30 or higher is considered Obese.

Body Mass index can be calculated using Kilograms and meters (or Centimeters)

BMI = WEIGHT IN KILOGRAMS

(HEIGHT IN METERS) X (HEIGHT IN METERS)

STEPS IN PREVENTING OVERWEIGHT AND OBESITY

Be physically active. This plays a key role in energy balance because it uses up calories consumed. It is recommended that a person accumulate at least 30 minutes (Adults) or 60 minutes (Children) of moderate physical activity most days of the week. Greater amounts of physical activity may be necessary for the prevention if weight gain, for weight loss or for sustaining weight loss. Additionally, if your job does not require you to expend so much energy, then engage in leisure time activity like walking. Skating, biking, swimming, dancing, tennis, football, and aerobics.

To prevent Overweight and Obesity, reduce the amount of time you and your family spend on sedentary activity such as watching TV or playing video games.

Eat meals together as a family as often as possible.

Carefully cut down on the amount of fat and calories in your diet. Plan for healthy snacks.

Do not place yourself in a restrictive diet.

Drink lots of water and limit your intake of beverages with added sugars, such as soft drinks, fruit juice drinks and sports drinks.

Stock your refrigerators with fat-free or low fat milk, fresh fruit and vegetables.

Aim to eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

Do not cultivate the habit of eating meals or snacks while watching TV if you want to prevent Overweight and Obesity.

Eating a healthy breakfast is a good way to start the day and may be important in achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.

Overweight and Obesity are a result of energy imbalance over a period of time. The cause of energy imbalance for each individual may be due to a combination of several factors. Individual behaviors, environmental factors, and genetics all contribute to the complexity of the obesity epidemic. However, the choices a person makes in eating and physical activity also contributions to Overweight and Obesity.

Guidelines on Preventing Diabetic Foot Ulcers

Foot problems like ulcers are some of the most common problems that diabetics have to deal with. Without much nerve sensation down there, people may neglect to take care of small foot injuries. These small wounds can turn into ulcers over time. If the situation gets too bad, it can even require the need for foot amputation.

The easiest way to prevent major problems down the road is to spot them early. If you have diabetes, then you should make it part of a daily routine to examine your feet. Ensure that you check between the toes as well as on the bottom of your feet. Use a mirror if you're having trouble checking everywhere.

Diabetic foot ulcers can be prevented by keeping your feet as clean as possible. Wash them everyday with warm water and mild soap. Get between the toes too. After you're done washing them, dry them thoroughly with a towel. You do not want moisture lingering around.

Speaking of moisture, the bottom of your feet and heels is typically dry. Use lubricants in these areas to keep this dryness from becoming a problem. Dried skin can easily crack which will invite the entrance of harmful microorganisms that lead to infection.

The type of shoes you wear will also help in the fight against diabetic foot ulcers. It's important to strike a delay balance between footwear that's too tight and too loose. You obviously want shoes to be loose enough to be comfortable, but if they're not enough enough, they will rub up against the skin and cause problems.

Always wear a pair of socks with your shoes too. Just make sure that they are not too tight either. Socks need to be clean, so wear a new pair on a daily basis.

Wearing shoes at all times is also important if you have diabetes. Minor injuries can cause trouble, so wearing shoes will help prevent them. Make sure that you inspect the interior of the shoes before you put them on to ensure no wayward objects are inside.

It should go without saying, but you should not smoke. The vice dramatically decrees circulation, especially in your lower extremities. The reduced blood flow may lead to sensation problems in your feet.

As mentioned previously, you need to examine your feet yourself everyday. You should also have a comprehensive foot exam conducted each year by your doctor. He or she will help spot any indications that diabetic foot ulcers may become a problem.

Shingles Rash Treatment To Cure Shingles In Days

Individuals over 50 years old are often most likely to develop the Shingle rash and require Shingles rash treatment, mainly because their immune system can be weakened, which makes them more susceptible to Shingles symptoms.

Shingles, primarily referred to as herpes zoster, is the re-emergence of the Chicken Pox virus (varicella virus) which you most likely had when you were a child. Whilst most of the people get one rash, you can get sometimes 2, 3, or even more. These types of rashes are really painful and may be very dangerous if you do not go ahead and take proper Shingles rash treatment.

There are several different shingles rash treatment alternatives available, for instance certain medicines or even natural remedies or treatment options.
