Eye Sight Problems

Causes and Treatments for Blurry Vision

Blurry vision may be a warning sign of eye disease. It can affect both eyes (bilateral blurred vision), or just one eye (unilateral blurred vision). In either case, it should be immediately addressed whether it happens rarely or quite often.

When your vision is blurry you can not see the fine details of an object which can be quite frustrating. Any kind of vision loss, including blurry vision or even blindness, can indicate a variety of different disorders, ranging from retinal detachments to migraines to glaucoma – and perhaps potential blindness.

Therefore, if you are experiencing any blurred vision, no matter how old you are, visit your doctor and get an exam. It may be an important indicator of a more serious condition.

Symptoms of Blurry Vision

Some blurred vision symptoms may affect both or just one eye, and are typically a result of some other primary cause. Some of the symptoms may include:

– Sensitivity to light (photophobia)
– Loss of peripheral and / or central vision
– Eye pain and discharge
– Poor nearby vision
– Seeing eye floaters or spots
– Itchy, dry eyes
– Bleeding from the eye
– Increased production of tears
– Bloodshot eyes
– Poor nighttime vision

Causes of Blurred Vision

As previously mentioned, blurred vision may be an indicator of a more serious underlying problem. The list is long, so here are just a few of the more common causes:

– Nearsightedness (myopia)
– Decreased ability to focus (presbyopia)
– Dry eyes
– Refractive eye conditions: may indicate the need for corrective lenses or a new lens prescription
– Cataracts: causes the eye lens to develop cloudiness
– Migraines: blurred vision may occur prior to developing a migraine
– Other eye disorders such as macular degeneration or glaucoma
– Contact lenses: damaged or dirty contact lenses can produce blurred vision

Alleviating Blurry Vision

If you notice your vision getting blurry, make an appointment to see your eye doctor. Depending on the seriousness of your disorder, there may be a vast range of treatment options available to you. Here are a few suggestions you may try to get your vision back in focus.

Reading Glasses –
Reading glasses can either be prescribed or purchased at a local store. Buying off the rack is the obvious money-saving solution. Try to pick a pair with the lowest magnifying power as possible. If everyday reading glasses can not help you, try various kinds of other eyeglasses such as bifocals or computer glasses, or perhaps multifocal contact lenses will work best for you.

Contact Lenses –
Using two different powered contact lenses can trick your brain – one lens for near vision and the other for distance. Wearing different contacts in this manner is referred to as monovision (blended vision). Monovision lenses let the brain instinctively focus the eyes for both near and far away vision.

Clean Your Eyeglasses or Contact Lenses –
It's very important to keep your eyeglasses or contact lenses clean at all times. Many times, debris or oil can accumulate on the lenses and produce fuzzy or blurry vision. Talk to your professional eye-care practitioner about which cleaning solution best suits you since not every solution is compatible with every type of lens.

Female Thinning Hair – Essential Information

If your hair is thinning to any degree it can be a cause for worry. It is actually a fairly common problem but one that is not generally spoken about openly. In most circumstances the amount of hair that is lost can be controlled by the right treatment and medication. Female thinning hair is different than what occurs in men. The pattern is not the same, and it will usually only affect women over fifty.

When a woman's hair starts to thin it can be very disturbing as at first it is unknown if it will be a permanent issue or just temporary. If the amount of thinning is a concern then you can seek medical advice as it may be the symptom of something more serious. It is important to make an appointment with a health specialist any time you have medical problems no matter how trivial it may seem at first.

In many cases hair thinning is caused by a hormonal imbalance. It can happen that a woman's body becomes overly sensitive to male known hormones as androgens. When this occurs the hair follicles in the scalp are affected. Such a hormonal problem can occur in both men and women but its appearance will differ. Women will not be afflicted with the total loss of hair from the scalp as happens with large numbers of men. There are usually three types of patterns that afflict women, all of them involve a general thinning of the hair though it may often be localised on one part of the scalp.

Hair thinning can be caused by other problems apart from hormones. Sometimes it may be psychological. There is a condition called trichotillomania which is diagnosed in women that continuously pull their hair. Such an action can lead to a patchy amount of coverage. The best treatment for this condition involves seeing a therapist.

It is now known that there is an auto immune disorder, alopecia areata, which can result in serious hair thinning in women. In extreme cases it may even cause baldness.

There are a few medical issues that can develop at a young age and cause hair thinning or a complete loss, an example being triangular alopecia. There is medication available for this problem but its actual cause has yet to be discovered.

If you have a very sensitive metabolism and are prone to allergies then you will need to take extra special care when using hair products. It is common to find shampoos and other treatments that contain high levels of chemicals. These substances can easily cause an irritation to the scalp which may lead to hair thinning. It is better for your hair, scalp, and overall health to choose hair products that contain only natural ingredients.

If you often color or dye your hair then you are more likely to suffer damage. The chemicals contained in most color treatments will affect the cells in your hair. It can take many years for the scalp and hair to recover from chemical damage. You should always use the softest least harmful substances on your hair.

Hair Loss Breakthroughs Will Always Have My Ear

Hair loss is one of the factors that affect every person and in doing so we all listen. It is one of the important parts of human body. We as humans love our hair and the beauty that comes with it. Especially for women, it can be said that hair is a natural jewel and is most precious for them.

For a woman, a head full of hair always looks more beautiful than a bald head. So, it is best to have a head full of hair than a bald head.

Baldness can become one of the most disappointing and problematic factor in a person’s life. At a very young age people are showing signs of early thinning of the scalp. It is mostly found in the case of men but women are also facing the similar problems. This is very disappointing for most people and these same people may also become very depressed with this kind of problem.

Many experts have been working for years and are still in the process to bring an effective breakthrough in the field of hair loss. Numerous products are launched in the market place, some producing better results than others?

Most importantly is to choose a product that will produce the results you are searching for. Many products in the market that assure you of being the most effective treatment available, but actually it will not meet and deliver the desired result of the treatment you seek. When fighting hair loss, one should seek guidelines from their doctor and also product information in today’s market.

Hair loss can be a genetic problem and can also pertain to the aging. So, it is better to seek remedies for hair loss, before the hair loss problem is out of control.

If one had started treating this problem from the onset, at the initial stage, then also the person have to consult the experts before going for the next stage. This will help the person to get a more effective result than the result that he will get without consultation with the expert. Hair loss breakthrough will always have the ears and eyes of a person whom may be suffering this type of condition.

Protect Your Privacy – Record Phone Calls

Do you have unwanted Phone calls? Does someone call you in the middle of the night just to let you hear their breathing? What ever the reason for the calls when you record phone calls you are sure that you are protecting yourself. Even if the calls just might be from someone from the other side of the world calling to sell you something if it is frequently done then it is already harassment.Did you know that in California and other states it is against the law to make obscene or threatening calls? This can be found in the California Penal Code section 653m, Penal Code section 422-422.1. Harassing calls are the following:

When someone calls and uses obscene or threatening language.

When someone makes heavy breathing or silence to intimidate you.

It is said that one unwelcome call is already harassment. Unfortunately, your local phone company will not take action unless you can prove that there is more than one call. Although they will take immediate action if there is either a threatening call against you or your family with the intent to do you bodily harm. When you record phone calls it is easier for you to prove that there is a threatening call because you have a tangible proof of the call or calls. Many different companies all over the US have different policies on how to deal with harassing phone calls. They might take immediate action or they might require you to contact the police first. To find out your local phone company's policy about this, call your local company's business office. Ask them if you record phone calls will it be proof enough for them. You know even if you are not receiving harassing or threatening phone calls it is still a good idea to ask. As they say forewarned is forearmed. But if you are already scared because of the seriousness of the threats or even if the calls are just obscene but is already highly offensive to you, do not hesitate to go to your nearest law enforcement agency. Give them as much information as you can. They will usually require you for the following information:

Gender of the caller.
How old did he / she sound?
Describe the caller's voice.
Did the caller have an accent, sounded educated or has speech impediment?
Time and date of the calls.
What did the caller say?
Was there background noise?
Did the caller sound sober or intoxicated?
Do you have a caller ID? If you do, did you get the number?

Amazingly, majority of the questions that the police are going to ask will be available at your fingertips. When you record phone calls you have made a well documented proof. It will be a great help to them especially as there are already software that can identify the voice of a person. Eight out of the nine questions they will ask are already in the recordings that you have provided for them. The phone recordings that you have made will ensure your privacy and maybe even save your life.

Fashion Trends For Kid's Winter Clothing

As all fashion trends are featured in all types of clothing, this should be kept in mind when embarking on children's clothing; that is if you are indeed fashionably. Ideally, the trends, cuts and styles of the season and year are always portrayed in children's clothing so you will not have to worry about finding main stream flair, punk, urban look, mod wear or gothic garments for your little ones. These are additionally broken along the seasonal lines of winter, fall, spring and summer.

Hooded sweat shirts are an item which will never go out of style in winter as well as fall and should be a closet essential for your child. More so, they are also available for other seasons as well which therefore means a wider selection of styles and colors to choose from.

Not to be forgotten are fabric choices such as 2009's emergence of muted tones. Whilst people usually insisted on muting bright colours such as oranges and yellows, other colours such as olive, navy blue and burgundy has taken over the fashion scene. Moreover, fashion designers have also looked into heavier articles of clothing as well such as canvas, denim and tweed which are not only durable but provide that warmth needed in winter.

Bold patterns including polka dot styles, argyle and camouflage have also received a boost in the fashion world for adults and children. But all this fashion allure should not be presented over providing for the most basic garment needs of your child which is offering durability, comfort and that right amount of heat. Besides, you can always accessorize such outfits for that special fashionable touch.

Each day more and more websites are offering winter clothes for toddlers so this can be a good opportunity for you to do such winter shopping from the comfort of your home. There you will find different types of outfits that compliment your taste in fashion. Moreover, it will ultimately see your child looking fashionable.

Band shirts are a hot trend and whether you love Led Zeppelin, The Ramones, 311 or punk rock styles, you can choose the perfect band t-shirts for your toddler. Not to mention the available booties, diaper bags, shirts and other clothing that are available in which you can choose from. All in all, be also sure to check out other band related items such as sweatshirts, hats, beanies, long-sleeves, bibs and jackets.

Pros and Cons of Light Therapy

In recent years, treatments using lights has proven to be a good medical alternative to a variety of ailments ranging from sleep disorders, pain, acne attacks, SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and mild depressions. One very good point for the alternative is the effectiveness compared with the other forms of treatments in terms of ease of use, costs, time and effort.

The other factors considered are the facts that light therapy is non-invasive and drug-free at most. For SAD and mild depression, there is no more need to buy anti-depressant medications that are sometimes contra-indicated with the patients otherwise unknown illnesses and may cause complications. There is no more need for such actions as injections and the like to medicate these afflictions like the old ways in treating acne, for instance.

Advantages of Light Therapy

The light used for therapy are five to twenty time brighter than regular lights, and sports around 10,000 (lux) on average. This can be advantageous if you want faster results in your treatments. It is only natural that patients show improvements exposed to natural lights. However, in severe cases, a device is needed to produce higher luminosity levels of light to be effective.

Lately, LED technology is now used for the bright light treatments for the convenience of patients. Again, patients are found to show improvements exposed to such natural light sources as the sun. Studies, however, had proved that these procedures (done according to specifications by dermatologists) produce better results than natural healing. One consideration is how intense the ministration of the treatment itself.

Some Precautions on Light Therapy

Just like any other treatment, it is always best to consult your doctor or a competent health professional before embarking on self-medication using lights. For example, not all types of acne can be effectively handled by this medical procedure. If your dermatologist recommends this therapy form, by all means, follow his advice to the letter.

Skin sensitivity must also be tested before doing any treatment. Removing makeup and other products on your skin is advisable before a light therapy medication. Light boxes can also vary its effectiveness. While it might be good for some people, others get little or no effect at all. Your dermatologist or doctor can help you assess the situation rather than embarking on decisions of your own. There are theories on this regarding the right spectrum of light to use, the duration of the treatment, or the intensity (or otherwise) of the treatments during the sessions.

You need to consult your doctor after about a month of light therapy to check on the effectiveness. If there are considerable improvements, you can proceed to purchase the in-home light therapy device or devices you need. Increasing the duration, frequency of treatments, or the intensity of the treatment sessions need to be cleared with your doctor or a health professional after evaluating your present progress, or lack.

Treatments should proceed with caution for people who have other active skin troubles in the treated areas. The same is true for people who are extra sensitive to bright lights. Necessary precautions are always the best policy.

Healthy Diet Eating Plan – Healthy Snack Foods

We all love a yummy treat and they are hard to resist. Who does not love lashings of chocolate and ice cream?

However, if you are trying to stick to a healthy diet eating plan then you have to find healthy snack foods that will leave you feeling satisfied and you can enjoy. Remember you can still enjoy some snacks in moderation but you have to try to find alternatives that will replace those things that are definitely not good for your healthy diet eating plan.

It is important to try to keep your snack foods within the range of approximately 100 to 150 calories and not to have them in an amount that would take you over your daily calories count. If you are allowed 1600 calories per day then it is reasonable to have three meals of about 400 calories each and two to three snacks of approximately 100-150 calories each. This should keep you within a calorie count to lose weight and remain on a healthy diet eating plan.

First you can have some chocolate – a small piece approximately two squares of dark chocolate is alright as a snack perhaps every couple of days. I have to say that my preference for chocolate like this is to suck it and enjoy every morsel rather than just chewing it and it being gone in a couple of seconds. The reason you want to limit the amount of chocolate you are eating is to help you break bad habits. New snacking should become part of your healthy diet eating plan.Relying to heavily on foods that are a problem for you does not change your attitude to eating.

Also remember drink about six to eight glasses of water per day especially prior to snacking. It is well known that often our brains misinterpret the feeling of being thirsty for thinking we are hungry. Being dehydrated makes you think you want something to eat. Coke is not okay. You need actual water, as your body interprets soft drink as a food and not a fluid. Besides the caffeine in cola soft drinks actually causes you to become more dehydrated. You may be sabotaging your weight loss by drinking cola based soft drinks. Remember that healthy snacks are to help you stay on your healthy diet eating plan. Do not cause yourself to fail because of soft drinks.

Another great food to snack on is celery. You can eat about 10 large stalks and it will only be about 100 calories. You can make your celery more enjoyable by eating it with hummus or peanut butter. The peanut butter has to go a long way as you should limit the amount you eat to about two tablespoons per day. The celery also gives you that comforting crunch when you bite into it. It is a snack that feels more substantial.

In my opinion the ultimate healthy snack food to keep you on your healthy diet eating plan is air popped popcorn. Two cups full that were cooked in the microwave without any flavoring is only about 60 calories. It gives you a big boost because you get the feeling that you have had a lot to eat as a snack and it seems like something that is normal to enjoy as a snack. It is a snack you can have when friends come and visit and they can enjoy it also. I know if I came to your home I would enjoy air popped popcorn.

These are just a few of the great things you need to know about having healthy snacks. There are many more healthy snacks that you are able to eat and still support your healthy diet eating plan. I will actually be continuing to give you more information on healthy snacks in another article.

Weight Loss Tips – How To Lose Weight Fast

If you are reading this article, you must be interested in losing weight and weight loss tips. If so, how fast do you want to see those pounds come off? While it is not advisable to seek out and / or utilize rapid weight loss techniques on a consistent basis, you should continue to read if you want to learn some quick weight loss tips you may want to consider on a short term basis.

One quick way to start your rapid weight loss is simply by reducing your food intake. When doing so, however, you may only see benefits for a couple of days. This commonly occurs as your body will slow down your metabolism to conserve fuel and energy, thus you may find yourself frustrated quickly if you try this approach for more than a few days. Worse yet, once you increase how much food you eat, you will most likely gain as much as you initially lost and, even worse, you may gain additional weight. And, it is very important to point out that starving one's self is not a healthy (nor maybe even a safe) approach to weight loss.

If you start by trying to take in less food, it is definitely possible to lose weight if you also look to reduce your sugar and fat intake as well as exercise. If you are able to minimize or eliminate how much junk food you eat, you will find that you may be able to quickly loss some weight. Since almost all junk foods are high in calories, such as candy, potato chips and the like, you may see a significant decrease in your caloric consumption by eliminating them from your diet. By reducing your caloric intake, you are more likely to lose weight.

Another key component to fast weight loss is exercise. With exercise, it may take some time to notice any weight coming off your body. That's why it can be frustrating for so many people and why they fail in their many diet attempts. However, once the weight starts coming off, it can often happen quickly, especially with heavier people. For the most benefits from exercising, you should plan to do so at least three to four times per week.

And, for a balance approach to weight loss, you should take in less food and calories while, at the same time, increase your exercise regimen. By burning off calories through exercise, your body absorbs fewer calories, thus making it possible to lose weight. However, before starting any exercising program, you should consult with your doctor prior to doing so to make sure your body is able to sustain the rigors of exercise. Same holds true for any diet. You should discuss any major change in your diet with your physician prior to doing so in an effort to stave off any potential risk for harm to your body, including major organs.

Yet another method for quick weight loss is to cleanse your colon, sometimes called a colonic or colon cleanse. With this type of therapy, toxins and several pounds of waste are removed from your intestines (or colon). If you decide that you want to consider this therapy, you definitely want to discuss it with your physician and ask him or her, the benefits and risks of such procedure. Typically, you are required to eat a special diet and limit the types of food you eat. Your doctor should also provide you with the benefits of a liquid cleanse versus a cleanse in pill form.

Jobs That Will Require First Aid Training

A lot of individuals with first aid training are working in hospitals and in other healthcare institutions. Medical personnel like doctors, nurses, and lab technicians might be required to carry out CPR in the course of their work. Other hospital personnel who might be required to perform CPR as well as first aid training will include maintenance personnel, human resource staff, and secretaries among others.

Professionals Needing First Aid Training

Dental And Medical Personnel – Although dental professionals in healthcare institutions are less likely to perform CPR, they might still be required to have a certification in first aid. There are some dental procedures that might cause patients to experience cardiac arrest.

Police Officers – Emergency medical personnel, police and fire fighters and among other first responders are required to undergo first aid training. Emergency medical technicians and other first responders might need to have advanced CPR skills.

School Staff – Throughout the schools around the world, excellent quality first aid training is naturally of great importance. In fact, there are some academic institutions which require at least some of the staff to have as well as maintain first aid and CPR certification. When a student or teacher is injured, co-workers or teachers can help in restoring his or her good health. Day care workers may also need to undergo such training.

Lifeguards – These professionals might have to provide first aid to drowning individuals who have been attacked by sea creatures. Other professionals who may need to learn such skill will include soldiers and law enforcement officers. Be reminded that these professionals are most likely to experience situations where people might need immediate care. Cardiac arrest and respiratory problems are among these circumstances.

Flight Attendants – These are the responders when accident or emergency happens in the air. It is not guaranteed that whenever the plane is in the air, there will be an emergency expert on board. Hence, these professionals must be skilled in giving immediate care.

Prison Personnel – In case of an emergency, medical staff might not be around in order to provide the required services. Thus, guards as well as other prison staff may need to provide the necessary help until medical support arrives.

Performing the wrong procedure to a victim can worsen the situation. It is highly recommended then that as much as possible, everyone knows the basics of giving first aid. Good thing there many courses being offered these days. Interventions need to be well-rooted on solutions and theories learned during the training.

Choosing a Hospital

When you are choosing which hospital you will deliver at, there are
many questions you should consider. First, to narrow your choices you
will want to check which facilities your Practitioner has privileges
to practice. Sometimes your doctor will prefer a certain hospital but
often they have more than one where they are willing to deliver. Then
consider the following questions:

Will the labor and delivery occur in the same room? Many hospitals
now offer Labor and Delivery Suites that include a nursery area, so
that your baby will never have to leave your side and you will not
need to be moved to another room after the delivery.

What are the safety policies in the hospital? Many hospital use
electronic ankle monitors for babies to ensure that they do not leave
a designated area.

Who and how many people will be allowed to attend your deliver?
Can you other children attend?

Are video or cameras allowed during delivery? The hospital policy
on these issues varies widely from hospital to hospital, so if you are
planning a video journal of your delivery you will want to ask this
question up front.

Is there accommodation for your partner to spend the night with
you in the hospital room? Many hospitals will offer a cot or fold out
chair upon request.

If you plan to breastfeed, you should ask if there is a lactation
consultant on site. This may prove invaluable as breastfeeding is
sometimes more difficult than expected.

Also consider the hospitals neonatal capabilities. If something
were to happen, do they have adequate staff and resources to provide
your baby with immediate care?

Not all of these issues will be major considerations for you, but you
will surely want to consider and inquire on a few of them. This will
make choosing the hospital that is right for you a much easier

A Book Review: The Calcium Lie II – What Your Doctor Still Doesn’t Know

In 2008, the authors published the first edition, The Calcium Lie – What Your Doctor Doesn’t Know Could Kill You. Then in 2013, they updated the information in The Calcium Lie – What Your Doctor Still Doesn’t Know. In this review we will look at the revised edition.

Dr. Robert Thompson, MD who maintains a medical practice in Alaska, at one time did not know what he lays out in this book. He, like most well-meaning health professionals, treated patients according to what he had learned in medical school for many years. Kathleen Barnes, a health journalist and author, lives in North Carolina. Dr. Thompson says that Kathleen helps him communicate in terms that his readers will understand.

This reviewer has administered numerous home school assessments over the years in which the General Information section of the tool she uses includes a question: “What mineral is most necessary to make bones hard?” Many have answered correctly, according to what they have learned and according to the assessment tool, “Calcium.”

Our authors would have us remember that the exam that determines whether a patient has osteoporosis or its precursor, osteopenia is the dexa MINERAL bone scan test. This name should help us remember that bones are made up of many minerals, one of which is calcium. By supplementing calcium alone, we actually harden more than our bones – calcification can occur in arteries, kidneys and other places in our bodies. Dr. Thompson reminds us throughout the book that “Calcium hardens concrete!”

Having gone into medicine with “altruistic” ideas, Dr. Thompson had become disenchanted with his profession, ready to quit. He reconsidered when in 1996 a peer-reviewed directory chose him as one of the “Best Doctors in America.” Encouraged, he decided to continue to make a difference.

Minerally Bankrupt (Chapter 1) – This foundational chapter states that bones consist of at least 12 minerals. “Excess calcium can cause:

• Kidney and gallstones

• Arterial plaque (and heart disease)

• Bone spurs (joints / osteoarthritis)

• Calcium deposits in tissues other than bones

• Brain cell dysfunction, brain shrinkage and dementia.” (p. 9)

• Cataracts

• Cancer

• Diabetes

• Hypothyroidism

• Hypertension (p. 29)

• Obesity (p. 39)

• Migraines (p. 43)

“Too much calcium causes the adrenal glands to be suppressed in order for the kidneys to hold on to the necessary magnesium in an attempt to keep these two minerals in balance.” (p. 19)

Before the invention of refrigeration, our forefathers used sea or rock salt to preserve food. Our natural balance of minerals left with this change. “Because a mineral ‘footprint’ is passed from mother to child, each generation has become progressively more deficient in these essential minerals.” (p. 12)

To add more injury to our systems, when the use of iodine in making bread and canned goods was exchanged with cheaper bromine, we began to see an increase in “thyroid disease and cancer, breast cysts, fibrous changes, cyclic tenderness and cancer, prostrate inflammation and cancer, and ovarian hormonal dysfunction, ovarian cysts, endometriosis and ovarian cancer.” (p. 13)

Table salt destroys health and the best mineral supplement is unrefined rock or sea salt. Dr. Thompson explains that the Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HMTA) gives the best possible analysis of the mineral levels and guides the medical practitioner in properly supplementing. He recommends only Trace Minerals, Inc. for doing the test.

Throughout the book, Dr. Thompson gives mini lessons on biochemistry that all doctors study in medical school. Amazingly, most doctors have forgotten their biochemistry and continue to follow the “Calcium Lie,” “The Calcium Myth” (chapter 2), and “The Vitamin Lie” (chapter 7).

Our authors devote chapters to the following health conditions and how they relate to calcium:

• Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Calcium (chapter 3)

• Digestive Dilemmas: Poor Protein Digestion, Sodium Deficiency and Cell Membrane Dysfunction (chapter 4)

• Metabolic Failure How Excess Calcium Causes Weight Gain, Thyroid and Adrenal Malfunctions and Five Types of Hypothyroidism (chapter 5)

• Women’s Issues: Pregnancy, Childbirth and Menopause (chapter 6)

Stress plays a key role in our heath. Thompson and Barnes address this issue and its relationship to Calcium (chapter 8). They emphasize that “stress management must be a regular part of a healthy life style.” (p. 176)

In chapter 9, The Road Back to Health they give their readers the following steps:

1. Drink pure water.

2. Take ionic sea salt – derived supplements.

3. Whole food vitamins.

4. Essential Fatty Acids

The Calcium Lie II closes with chapter 10, “Doctor to Doctor: An Impassioned Plea.” He encourages his readers to copy this chapter and take to their doctors or better yet to purchase a copy of the book for their doctors.

Dr. Thompson and Kathleen Barnes present the facts behind their claims. Reading and following their guidance will improve our health.

Don’t Over Analyze Your Golf Swing

A fast accurate golf swing relies heavily on correct bio-mechanics and positioning of the golf club and your body, as much as it is important to understand the fundamentals and mechanics of the swing, over analyzing it can really just work against you.

A good golf swing will eventually become all about tempo and rhythm and not bio-mechanics and strength, if you feel you have to force any part of your swing then you probably need to make adjustments somewhere, because extra force does not necessarily translate to better results.

A good golf swing should produce a good result and feel almost effortless.

Relax for Results

Constantly thinking about each part of your swing each time you go to hit the ball, causes tension in one or more area in the over all chain reaction that you set in motion to hit a ball, from the winding up of the coil (setting the backswing), to the uncoiling of the spring (the strike and follow through), this needs to be smooth and flow rather than stiff and rigid, learning how to relax in this process is the key to a more effortless swing.

The Perfect Set Up.

There are only 3 times you should have to think to yourself through a golf shot. The first one is the set-up and this is what dictates the rest of the motion.

Start with your grip, make sure it feels around a 2 out of 10 for strength, your arms should literally hang from your shoulders with little to no tension what so ever, and your shoulders should be loose and relaxed.

Having a relaxed start lets the rest of your body dictate the speed of the swing and not the arms, this should slow your swing down but open the possibilities to getting more power into your swing, which eventually also gives you speed, not the other way around.

A petite female golfer who uses their body to produce power and speed in the swing, will be able to drive longer and more accurately than a solid male that tries to use the strength in their arms and not the whole body to hit the ball.

Secret to a Good Swing

Spending time on the driving range concentrating on learning to relax with your shots rather than hitting as far as you can is one secret to a better technique, once you learn to relax you will most likely notice longer shots coming more effortlessly, and then you can start to adjust the level of the hit with your body and not the strength in your arms to make your drives even further and more accurate on a consistent basis.

Testosterone and Marijuana

Marijuana attacks your precious testosterone in almost every negative way possible. One study after another has shown that cannabis lowers testosterone. For example one research team found that "a reanalysis of existing data established that testosterone levels are depressed both after smoking one marijuana cigarette and after intravenous infusion of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, a pharmacologically active component of marijuana". The same study concluded that it would take at least 24 hours for testosterone levels to normalize after marijuana use. (NOTE: It's not just the smoke – an IV will do it.)

Another study found that not only was testosterone decreased after short term marijuana use, but leutenizing and follicle stimulating hormone were lowered as well. And just to add to the endocrinological misery, the arch-villain and stress hormone cortisol was raised as well. There are also studies in animals and humans that strongly indicate that marijuana blunts growth hormone response as well. And so it is no wonder that animal studies show that marijuana use shrinks the testes. So, if you're not happy with lowered testosterone, infertility and elevated cortisol, you can sit around enjoying the fact that you've got a little more air flow through your boxers.

You should also know that there are many reports that chronic marijuana use leads to gynecomastia, ie "enlarged male breasts", due to its abundant amounts of phytoestrogens. One journal writer pointed out that "given the effects of marijuana on the HPG axis in males and the possibility that noncannabinoid components of marijuana smoke have affinity to the estrogen receptor, an association with gynecomastia is plausible but has not been convincingly demonstrated". Remember that estrogen fights against testeosterone in the body as well.

Marijuana has also recently been flagged as particularly dangerous for young people because it decreases seratonin and increases norepineprine. While these are not sex hormones like testosterone, these can alter mood negatively and, through prolonged use, may permanently alter anxiety levels and reaction to stress. Again, the researchers are suggesting this may have long term, possibly lifetime anxiety and mood repercussions. I would also add that any increase in stress will also likely lower testosterone as well.

So we ask the question, "Could someone please explain again why anyone in their right mind would smoke marijuana?" The only thing we can think of is the extra hydrogen cyanide. That's right – marijuana tobaco is much higher in hydrogen cyanide – probably five times higher – than cigarette tobacco. Maybe that partially explains why habitual pot smoking is so hard on the lungs and why cannabis use has also now been linked to the most aggressive form of testicular cancer.

Not to make the bad news even worse, but there is also considerable reported evidence of erectile dysfunction among chronic marijuana users. This is undoubtedly partially due to the lowered testosterone. However, the other reason was discovered by one study that showed marijauna effected Nitric Oxide and summarized by saying, "We conclude that early endothelial damage may be induced by chronic cannabis use (and endocannabinoid system activation". Let me translate that: it may take your sex life with it. If so, decreased sexual activity is also associated with lowered testosterone levels as well.

The tragedy with marijuana is that many cultures and youth are embracing marijuana as more "natural", but this is far from being the case. One recent study found that marijuana induces just as much cell toxicity and DNA damage as cigarette smoke. The researchers were very clear that marijuana displayed just as much cancer causing power as the cigarette smoke: "In addition, when corrected for total particulate matter yield, little difference was observed in the mutagenic activity of samples smoked under the extreme vs the standard regime for both tobacco and marijuana condensates ".

In summary, there is significant evidence that marijuana lowers testosterone, nitric oxide, leutinizing hormone, growth hormone and raises cortisol at the same time. Hormonally, there is no justifiable reason for cannabis use.
