Physical Therapy for Bulging Disc Relief and Recovery

Bulging discs commonly occur as the body ages and the intervertebral disc degenerates. However, bulging discs happen not just in senior adults but also in younger ones. At the center of the intervertebral disc is a soft and spongy substance called the nucleus pulposes. When this substance bulges out, it puts pressure on the ligaments known as annulus fibrosis, which surrounds the core. This normally is not a cause for major concern and may not even be painful but it becomes serious when the bulging intrudes into the area of the spinal canal. When this happens, the pain can be unbearable.

While majority of people with bulging discs do not experience debilitating pain, there are a few cases when patients suffer severe and persistent low back pain caused by a bulging disc, which hinders their normal activities. The good thing is most cases of bulging discs do not require surgical treatment. Doctors usually provide initial treatment of bulging discs through non-surgical or conservative methods focusing on pain relief, both short-term and permanent, and more importantly, healing.

To help reduce inflammation, your physician may recommend that you limit your activities and get some bed rest. For mild to moderate pain, your doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatory medicines. Sometimes, patients receive steroid injections for temporary pain relief.

Physical therapy for bulging disc is also one of the recommended ways of treatment. Like any medical treatment, physical therapy for bulging disc starts with the doctor's evaluation of your condition. Once the doctor has determined his diagnosis, he or she will design a program specific to your needs.

Physical therapy for bulging disc makes use of different methods, one of which is traction. In this procedure, the therapist pulls the vertebrae so the blood can flow into the damaged disc and promote healing. Another common physical therapy for bulging disc is massage therapy, which also improves blood circulation in the affected area.

Stretching exercises are also part of physical therapy for bulging disc. In addition to this, your therapist may gradually incorporate strengthening exercises into your therapy program to strengthen the muscles in your back.

Other methods in physical therapy for bulging disc are ice therapy, heat therapy, ultrasound therapy, and electrical stimulation. Your doctor or therapist may also recommend muscle relaxants and pain relief medication in combination with physical therapy for bulging disc. There are many treatment options for bulging discs. Some may work and some may not. Your doctor will help you determine which ones will work for you best.

10 Tips to Sustain a Healthy Diet

It's no secret that proper nutrition is a key to good health. But sustaining a proper diet can be tough. We can be constrained by time which makes the convenience of fast food very tempting and we are constantly inundated with fad diets promising immediate and outlandish results.

Here are 10 helpful tips to help you sustain a healthy diet. Follow these tips to keep yourself on track.

  1. Avoid fad diets! The commercials sure look cool and the claimed results are very motivating. However, every fad diet has a multitude of failures too … which they conveniently fail to mention. There are NO quick fixes. You must think about what's sustainable.
  2. Control portions: As standard portion sizes have increased, so have our waistlines. Compare plate sizes from today and 20 years ago and you'll see that they've gotten much bigger, going from 10 "to 12" in the 1990's. In the 1950's McDonalds only offered one size of French fry which is now considered a small and is about 1/3 the size of the large (Young & Nestle, 2002). Also, I can not think of too many people who enjoy counting calories. It can be very tedious and can drive you crazy. Portion control is a better solution and one that you can easily stick to.
  3. Be mindful: Erin Kuh, RD suggests to "eat when you're truly hungry and stop before you are completely full". Eating past the point of fullness will severely decrease your energy levels. Not only that, it can actually become an addictive habit. Obviously, this will detrimental to controlling your portion sizes.
  4. Check the scale: Be careful with this one and do not become obsessed with it. Checking your weight just once a week can be helpful though. You can use the scale as a barometer of how you are doing with your nutrition and exercise. If it starts going up, you know you need to be a little more careful with your diet and exercise regimen.
  5. Eat breakfast: I have trained many clients that do not eat breakfast because they say they are too busy or they wake up not feeling hungry. However, eating breakfast is essential to your health. A recent study found that breakfast eaters actually weigh less and suffer from fewer chronic diseases (Timlin & Pereira, 2007).
  6. Keep a food log: This can be a very big and important eye opener for most people. It's been my experience that people actually eat more than they think or eat more unhealthy foods than they are aware of. We often eat mindlessly and it does not register that we are eating a lot of calorie dense foods such as chips. Even though this process can be tedious, it's worth it. The good news is you do not have to do this forever (unless you want to). Simply log 3-4 days and you should have enough information to determine what you need to change about your dietary habits.
  7. Limit TV watching: speaking of mindless eating , in front of the TV is where most of this happens. Snacking while watching TV is a habit and is much the same as smokers who feel the need to light up when they drive. The National Weight Control Registry , a database That tracks over 5.000 people WHO COMPLETE have lost 's at least 30 lbs and maintained That for a minimum of one 's year has found That Those That have been Successful at losing and Maintaining hwy weight watch less than 10 hours a week .
  8. Start now: Avoid the "last chance " binge! Often people get inspired to make a positive change in their life by eating healthier and exercising in the middle of the week but feel like they need to wait until Monday to get started. While they wait, they over-indulge in the foods they plan to deprive themselves of in order to get it out of their system. This is very counterproductive as it actually increases our cravings for such things. Do not wait for Monday! Get started while you are inspired and your motivation is at its peak.
  9. Be optimistic: Starting a new health and fitness regimen is tough and can sometimes start to weigh on you. It's important to stay positive and optimistic for long term success. A study by Tinkler et al. (2007) found that folks who are optimistic are more successful at changing behaviors and losing weight.
  10. Be aware of enablers: A big part of being successful at maintaining a successful diet plan is staying away from folks who will sabotage your efforts. I call these enablers. I spoke with a lady recently that had lost 150 lbs and she told me she had to tell her friends and family to stop asking her to eat out and eating fattening food in front of her. Furthermore, she had to tell them to stop encouraging her to "not be obsessed and just try some of the food". She likened it to taking a recovering alcoholic to a bar. Probably not a good idea. Even research backs this up. A high quality study of 12,000 people followed over 30 years found that obesity spreads through social ties (Christakis & Fowler, 2007). In an episode of A & E's hit show called "Heavy" a young woman had to move out of her house and get a new job in order keep away from the temptations her family and job presented. Big surprise … it worked.

Follow these 10 tips to ensure you start right and sustain a healthy diet. It's going to be hard work but anything worth doing is worth working for.

Bird Brained First Aid

Bird Brained First Aid

When a bird is growing new feathers they are called blood feathers or pin feathers. Due to their active growth they need a constant supply of blood and will bleed if broken. Each feather has an artery and vein that extend up into it from the follicle and nourish the feather. A blood feather has a larger quill than a mature feather and will appear dark due to the color of the blood. Once the feather is mature, the blood supply will recede and the waxy sheath that once covered the feather to protect it during growth will be removed by the bird.

What happens if a blood feather breaks?

Sometimes a blood feather will accidentally break or be cut when the wings are trimmed causing it to bleed. If the bird is healthy, this is not at all a life threatening situation so long as the appropriate measures are taken. It is a good idea to have your bird examined by a veterinarian even if the bleeding does stop quickly. Broken blood feathers are usually removed to avoid injuring it again causing further bleeding.

What to do if a blood feather is bleeding

It is very important to stop the bleeding, especially if the bird has a condition that will affect their ability to clot blood. Restrain the bird and apply pressure with gauze or a cotton ball to the broken shaft. You will have to remove the feather if the bleeding does not stop. Call a veterinarian to have someone talk you through the process if you have never done it before.

Removing the feather

Tweezers or needle-nose pliers are a good tool to use. Grip the feather close to the skin and pull quickly and firmly in the direction the feather is growing. This will cause pain so you will need to firmly hold your bird. If you are extracting a wing feather, hold and immobilize the wing. Never jerk or twist the feather.

After care

Once you have removed the feather and all bleeding has been stopped, return the bird to its cage and monitor them for an hour for anymore bleeding. The bird needs to see a veterinarian immediately if the feather broke off below the skin line, the feather cannot be totally removed, or the pressure has not stopped the bleeding.

APM in the Hospital – Will You Have an IT Attack?

A recent visit to the hospital with a friend who had a severe reaction to incompatible medications brought home in a vivid way just how important computer applications have become in operating a hospital efficiently. Gone are the clip-boards at the end of the bed and doctors flipping through the attached charts. During this visit, the nurses and doctors stepped up to a computer monitor and checked everything on a screen. Even answers to the admittance questionnaire were entered directly into a computer.

All this would seem to be a great advance. Your patient's medical records are available for anyone on the medical staff to review. There is minimal risk that data will be entered incorrectly as it is transferred from paper to computer. Yet, there lurk risks that the end-users, your medical staff, should never have to deal with-the risk that information may be lost or become unavailable for retrieval. Your hospital could have an IT attack such as a denial of service.

While never fatal, IT attacks can cripple a hospital and severely injure the bottom line. Who needs a lawsuit because the medical records did not say, "Allergy to iodine"?

Who Prevents IT Attacks?

Typically, most hospitals expect IT to monitor the performance of all the technology. That means monitoring of applications come with that responsibility. The nurses and doctors, and even hospital administrators do not care how complex the IT system is. Just make sure the system does not crash. Just make sure slow-downs are kept to a minimum.

IT unfortunately may spend most of its time putting out fires, trying to figure out what's causing mysterious slowdowns and other symptoms of angina in the IT stack. Trying to track down why certain transactions execute correctly most of the time but do not at other times is worse than trying to stitch together a cut without a needle.

In the high-paced environment of most hospitals, IT is as motivated as anyone else in the hospital to have everything running as it's supposed to be. The biggest fear is that a cascading failure will impact patients and the staff who care for them. Yet, it may seem impossible to prevent these IT attacks.

Application Performance Management is Preventative Medicine for IT Attacks.

Each execution of a command initiates a transaction that needs to be monitored for proper execution. No hospital can afford the loss of data, and applications are what port data from one terminal to another. Monitoring and managing the availability, performance, and configuration of applications, and keeping the provisioning of complex IT hospital centric business applications up to date is essential if IT is to support and grow a hospital's efficiency.

There can be hundreds of different applications interacting with each other at extremely high speeds and volumes. Without the different capabilities of APM at their disposal, IT can not possible keep up. IT can not possibly prevent IT attacks.

When IT puts the right APM solution in place, it's akin to inoculating the IT applications. Not only can IT reduce the risk of IT attacks significantly, it can start recognizing the malignant processes that lead to cascading failure in their earliest stages.

Is it time you learned more about application performance management and its benefits for hospitals?

Be "The Doctor" To The Seller's Problems

If you want to really be successful as an investor, you must consider yourself "The Doctor" to the Seller's problems. Just like medical doctors, Sellers must see you as being professional, well educated, acting on their "patient's" best interest, and bound by a high code of ethics.

The medical process is the same everywhere. Whenever you go to a doctor, of any kind, for any condition, he will follow the three-part sequence of examination, diagnosis and prescription.

Unfortunately, most new investors do it backwards. They spend all of their time telling the Seller about their company, services, and how great they are, instead of finding out what the Seller wants or needs.

At the end of the conversation, they know all about the investor, but the truth is that the Seller DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE INVESTOR! At best, if they have not fallen asleep or tuned the investor out, they have already made a decision.

The Key: Find Seller's Pain

Investors often miss this important variable. Therefore they do not really know what strategy to take when dealing with a Seller. If the Seller was not in "pain" they would never have called you, but they did call you because they knew that they had a problem that needed fixing. You've got to discover the financial impact or economic value of the problem. You've got to get the Seller to tell you how much it's costing them or how much sleep they are losing because something is not right with their house situation.

The second phase is that of diagnosis. In diagnosing a Seller, you would repeat the results of your examination and double check to be sure that the problems that you detected were the real "pains" being experienced by the Seller. You would ask additional questions to confirm and corroborate. You and the Seller would mutually agree that this diagnosis seems to be an accurate description of the condition or problem.

Examples Identifying Opportunities to Profit by Eliminating Seller's "Pain" …

1. Pain:
Seller needs quick solution …

Remedy: We can close in 8 days, but 24 hours – if necessary.

2. Pain:
Seller wants to stop worrying about the house sale situation …

Remedy: Let us take care of your worries and put you at ease.

3. Pain:
Seller is afraid of taking a major loss on the sale since they have no equity …

Remedy: We'll pay full price.

4. Pain:
Seller does not want to be a landlord anymore. The property may have been rented for many years and have "tenant damage" …

Remedy: We'll fix it up and take care of management issues while allowing the Seller to retain tax advantages.

5. Pain:
Seller is concerned about their declining credit rating – if payments are late …

Remedy: I'll guarantee your payments, electronically.

6. Pain:
Seller has had property listed with a Realtor for 6 months or more and has not gotten an offer …

Remedy: We do not want to list your house we want to buy it.

7. Pain:
Prospective home-buyers who have already viewed the property (if any) are not qualified to buy, or can not afford to buy AND fix it up …

Remedy: We'll buy it and fix it up.

8. Pain:

Sellers are divorcing and will do anything to get away from the property – and each other …

Remedy: We can close quickly so you can go your separate ways.

9. Pain:
Seller may have received many low-ball cash offers …

Remedy: We'll pay full asking price (by taking over their payments).

10. Pain:
Seller wants to get out of debt.

Remedy: We'll payoff Seller's debts off with the sale of the home.

Once this mutual agreement has been reached, and you have identified the "pain" accurately, you can move on to phase three. This is the prescription phase, where you show the Seller that your service is the best available treatment, taking all the factors of the Seller's situation into consideration. You show that, on balance, what you are suggesting is the best of all possible solutions.

Investors who buy the way that doctors treat patients find that their deals proceed far more smoothly and result in bigger and better profits in less time. Spend more time asking great questions like doctors, and less time talking about yourself and your company, and you'll create more opportunities, close more sales, and make more money. By asking better questions, and being interested in the answers, you can discover what the Seller's problems and issues are and then offer a solution. Most of the time, if they are not motivated, they will tell you straight out, right then and there. Hopefully, you did not make a trip for them to tell you this, but you learned this when you spoke to them on the phone using the Seller's INFO Sheet (mentioned earlier in this course).

During each conversation, you should ask detailed and clarifying questions about what the Seller is trying to accomplish, what the Seller's goals and objectives are.

A question I also like to ask is "What would you like to see happen?" And then I LISTEN while taking detailed notes about everything the Seller is saying as you're filling out our Seller's Info Sheet (which ask all the important questions you need to know about the seller and if it's a possible deal) – even on appointments. Its okay, they will respect that you are taking notes on how you can help them better.

Another good question I like to ask is, "What would you like our company do to help you?" This question really allows me to find out what the Seller is thinking and exactly how I can help them. This is also a question that is very easy on the ears and gives the sellers a sense of caring and peace. So I really do not have to guess or pressure them because getting to their motivation is just a couple of questions away. And once I ask those key questions, I know whether I have a deal or not.

And to seal the deal, the one question I use is: "When would you like our company to help you in your situation?"

If the Seller tells you that they have no real timeline, that they will just wait until the property sells, then this is often a sign that you are not dealing with a motivated Seller. Make sure you protect your time by being willing to walk away if it becomes clear that there is not enough motivation.

Main Goal is to Built Credible Rapport

No matter how the Seller responds, your main goal is to open a line of communication and develop a conversation about the property and the needs of the Seller. I know that some deals take 5 to 7 contacts before they close, so an important aspect of our system is follow-up. Even though they may not do business today, they certainly can call you back 3 to 9 months later because you keep sending postcards and letters and are constantly on their minds. Here is where you separate yourself even further from the other investors and buyers. I used to be surprised if they called me after a meeting or a phone conversation I had with them a year ago, but by continuing to send them letters and postcards, they remember me and call me because I was first on their minds.

If you will treat your real estate business like a doctor's by examining, diagnosing and prescribing a Seller's problems, you will make just as much as doctor and even more.
Remember, the sooner you get the Seller to start talking, the closer you are to arriving at an agreement and putting together a transaction.

Gadgets And Their Importance In Our Life

Gadgets are electronically simplified applications that make work easy. They play a significant role in the common man’s life and we have grown so used to it that it becomes very difficult for us to think of daily life chores in the absence of gadgets. Ranging from a washing machine, a chimney or an electric hub, the churner or simply the television set; gadgets have invaded each and every part of our life and have proved themselves to be useful.

Gadgets and their importance

1. Gadgets increase our efficiency. Before the invention of the telephone or the more recent e-mails, sending messages and letters would take days to reach its destination. The soft wares used for application in the internet and the telecommunication are nothing but technical gadgets. These gadgets actually have increased human productivity in terms of work and made the world a better place to live in.

2. A gadget brings joy to the family. With the advent of web-cam and other video accessories, staying away from family and friends is no longer painful. These gadgets can make distant things come near and makes human accessibility very easy.

3. Gadgets make things compact- Take the example of a Swiss Army knife. It can be used as a spoon, knife, twizzer, bottle opener, fork etc. In a single gadget a user can get the function of more than one product.

4. They help in saving space. Initially in the early years of telecommunication the wired handsets could be positioned at a prescribed position only for connectivity. With advent in technology, mobiles were invented that allowed users the freedom to access calls when moving around. With a blackberry one can also avail internet facilities when moving around.

5. Gadgets are fun! iPods, music systems, video games, DVD and most important of all the popular idiot box of ours-“TV” need no introduction as to how enjoyable have they made our lives. These technical gadgets have the power to make us smile by having access to our emotions and needs. They are instruments that can ward off the feelings of loneliness. They are so fun that it actually becomes very essential to integrate them with our lives.

So, gadgets not only make our lives easier but also save our money and precious time. Buying a single gadget will give us the functions of many. This makes gadgets cheap and affordable. It can therefore be concluded that gadgets are not only important because they make our lives easy but also because we can play with them.

7 Fish Oil Benefits Proven by Research

Research studies show fish oil benefits are down right amazing.

And knowing this is the second most important thing you can do for your health. (We’ll get to #1 in importance soon.)

Studies are published almost daily as the scientific community discovers more and more of the many extraordinary omega 3 fish oil benefits.

If you haven’t already been swept up in the net yet, here are 7 proven omega 3 benefits you should know about.

1. Less Pain and Inflammation. Omega 3 fatty acids, particularly EPA, have a very positive effect on your inflammatory response. Through several mechanisms, they regulate your body’s inflammation cycle, which prevents and relieves painful conditions like arthritis, prostatitis, cystitis and anything else ending in “itis.”

2. Cardiovascular Health. Omega 3 fatty acids have also been proven to work wonders for your heart and the miles and miles of arteries and veins that make up your cardiovascular system. They help to lower cholesterol, tryglicerides, LDLs and blood pressure, while at the same time increasing good HDL cholesterol. This adds years to your life expectancy.

3. Protection from Stroke and Heart Attack. When plaque builds up on arterial walls and then breaks loose, it causes what’s known as a thrombosis, which is a fancy way of saying clot. If a clot gets stuck in the brain, it causes a stroke and when it plugs an artery, it causes a heart attack. Research shows omega 3 fatty acids break up clots before they can cause any damage.

4. Better Brain Function and Higher Intelligence. Pregnant and nursing mothers can have a great impact on the intelligence and happiness of their babies by supplementing with fish oil. For adults, omega 3 improves memory, recall, reasoning and focus. You’ll swear you’re getting younger and smarter.

5. Less Depression and Psychosis. Making you smarter is not all omega 3 does for your brain. Psychiatry department researchers at the University of Sheffield, along with many other research studies, found that omega 3 fish oil supplements “alleviate” the symptoms of depression, bipolar and psychosis (Journal of Affective Disorder Vol. 48(2-3);149-55).

6. Lower Incidence of Childhood Disorders. Just to show how fish oil fatty acids leave nobody out, studies show that children (and adults) with ADD and ADHD experience a greatly improved quality of life. And those with dyslexia, dyspraxia and compulsive disorders have gotten a new lease on life thanks to omega 3 oils.

7. Reduction of Breast, Colon and Prostate Cancer. And finally, omega 3 fish oil has been shown to help prevent three of the most common forms of cancer – breast, colon and prostate. Science tells us that omega 3s accomplish this in three ways. They stop the alteration from a normal healthy cell to a cancerous mass, inhibiting unwanted cellular growth and causing apoptosis, or cellular death, of cancer cells.

So you can see why knowing these benefits is the second most important thing you can do for your health. Can you guess what number one is?

That’s right! Now it’s time to put your knowledge to work. Eat more cold water oily fish and start taking good quality pure omega 3 fish oil supplements regularly.

HPV Multi-Strain Vaccination

Genital HPV infections are categorized as including either high risk or low risk strains. These different HPV strains are referred to by numbers (instead of names). The two most frequent high risk strains are 16 and 18, and they are associated with 70% of the cancers of the cervix which occur in the United States. The two most common low risk strains are 6 and 11, and they are associated with 90% of genital warts cases; these strains do not have any potential to progress into a malignancy but can be extremely contagious.

High risk strains (16 and 18) are frequently associated with HPV infections that persist and do not resolve spontaneously over time. The low risk strains (6 and 11) do not have any potential to progress to cancer of the cervix but can spread rapidly to new sites both on the person infected and to their partners.

Gardasil is an FDA approved vaccine which has been demonstrated to be protective against HPV. Gardasil is a quadrivalent virus that protects against four strains of HPV: 16 and 18 (the more aggressive strains that cause cervical cancer) and 6 and 11 (the less aggressive strains which cause highly contagious genital warts). Gardasil will give immunity to all four strains, but the vaccine is preventive, so it will only be effective against these strains if the person has not yet been exposed prior to receiving the virus.

The vaccine is extremely effective in preventing persistent infections and diseases caused by the HPV strains included in the vaccine, but only in those cases where the person has not been previously exposed to those specific viral strains before having received the vaccine. The vaccines are not therapeutic and cannot be used to treat active infection or disease, even if caused by vaccine-covered strains.

The Gardasil vaccine consists of a series of three injections over a six month period of time. The usual schedule is the initial injection, the second injection being given two months later and the third injection being given four months after the second. The shots are given in the arm.

Personal Health Management in Today's Health Care Environment

Personal health management or self-management has been a basic tenet of chronic disease management for a long time. However, often the patient's attitude towards healthcare has been to go to the doctor and say, "Fix me". This approach is no longer viable because it provides only satisfactory responses to short-term problems and stretches medical professional resources thin. Add to this the basic fact that 75% of all adults over 65 have a chronic illness – half of this group has multiple illnesses- and it is easy to see how medical provider's resources are struggling to provide cost-effective, quality care to their chronic disease patients. The end result is that self-management has to mean more than the patient following doctor's orders. Self-management in today's world needs to promote a more active role for the patient in their own healthcare solutions.

What does this mean, though? It means acknowledging that the patient should play a lead role in managing their care. This does not mean that the patient should go it alone, but a collaborative approach needs to be employed where medical professional and patient work together to define problems, set goals and create plans. Think of it as a team sport where the patient is the team captain and all of the medical professionals that the patient sees play specialized roles on the team. The patient is the leader and the coordinator, but each professional contributes important pieces to make the team successful.

Another difficulty in providing effective management of chronic disease is that often patients go several months between medical appointments. More frequent visits are simply too costly for patients and too time consuming for care givers. This is especially true in cases where appointments often include no actual medical treatment, but are used to exchange information between patient and medical professional. This strongly suggests that an effective self-management strategy must improve communication between medical visits.

Several different strategies have been looked at over the years to improve self-management, and according to the National Health Institute one thing is clear – any program adopted should be readily applicable to more than one condition. This is because multiple strategies make it difficult for the whole health care team to be on the same page. There are also six core strategies that should be included in any effective self-management routine:

  • Patient self-education about their condition
  • Routine monitoring and management of symptoms
  • Patient / Professional partnership in deciding when medical help is needed
  • Communication between patient and professional via means other than just face-to-face
  • Developing and maintaining appropriate exercise and nutritional programs
  • Finding ways to do the above with minimal impact on the patient's life

There are several Internet-based personal health management solutions designed with many of these six strategies in mind. However, when looking at these solutions it is important to look for one that allows you to work with more than one aspect of your health at a time. This is important since most chronic diseases lead to complications that must also be tracked. Thus, having a system that can work with multiple conditions is cost-effective over time since it eliminates the need to learn and keep tabs on multiple software applications.

Most of these online tools do help patients achieve two primary goals of modern self-management healthcare: Empowering the patient and improving patient-doctor communication. Patient self-management is quickly becoming a key part of the solution to the growing health care crisis. These new online personal health management solutions help make simple, comprehensive, cost-effective self-management a reality.

What do the Experts Recommend?

Children Should Be Protected From Psychotropic Drugs

Tragically, in the USA, where psychiatry holds a bigger sway than in other countries, large numbers of children are being prescribed mind-altering, brain-altering, body-harming drugs as 'treatment' for behaviour that surely does not warrant the risk of adverse effects of the magnitude these drugs carry. The prescribing of these drugs swells Big Pharma's coffers but does not help the child patients, aka victims.

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is one of a type of illness invented by drug companies in order to sell their drugs to treat the putative 'illness'. In my opinion, if a child is inattentive or hyperactive, the inattention / hyperactivity is clearly not caused by lack of Ritalin or lack of Concerta, and indeed it has been widely reported that these drugs provide no benefit to children over the long term, despite short-term behavioural improvements,

On the other hand we constantly hear of food additives causing behaviour problems and hyperactivity in children, and we also sometimes hear of children being put onto 'slimming' diets or themselves choosing to eat inadequate amounts of food because of the prevailing foolish fashion for ultra- thin models. Happily, we hear also of great improvements in behaviour and attention span when such children change to additive-free and more nutritious food.

Rather than psychotropic drugs, good nutrition is the best medicine for children. Protecting children from the physical, mental. emotional and spiritual harm that psychiatric drugs cause, and protecting them from entering the dystopian world of psychobabble and self-analysis and the waste of their precious childhood with all this nonsense instead of living the normal, carefree life of a child, is what loving parents should be doing, in my opinion.
