Cat First Aid Can Save Your Cat's Life

As you know, a cat can not tell you what's wrong with him. And he's usually tempted to run away when frightened or injured. Often you must restrain the cat to administer aid, risking scratches and bites if you're not properly prepared.

The goals of all feline first aid are to:

Preserve life.

Alleviate suffering.

Promote recovery.

Minimize aggravation of an injury or illness until a veterinarian can attend to it.

Checking for Normal Vital Signs

In an emergency situation, it's important to get the cat's vital signs as quickly as possible, including his temperature, his pulse and his breathing rate.

Normal Temperature for Cats: 100.4 to 102.5 degrees F

Pulse: 160 to 240 per minute

Respiration: 20 to 30 per minute

Since your cat's temperature is taken rectally, make sure you have a helper to immobilize the cat. You do not want to try this alone at any time, let alone when the cat is stressed from an injury or illness.

To locate your cat's pulse, press your two fingers against the inside of the upper hind leg. This is where the femoral artery is. Be sure that you count for at least 60 seconds. A very fast pulse can indicate a state of shock.

You can check your cat's respiration by watching their chest. Count the inhalations and exhalations for a minute.

What to Do In an Emergency

1. Remove the cause of injury, such as any weight resting on the cat.

2. Clear the airway so the cat can breathe. Remove the collar if there is one. Clear the nose and throat of foreign bodies or blockages. Place the animal in a position that best promotes breathing.

3. Give artificial respiration if your cat has stopped breathing.

4. Treat a cardiac arrest with CPR, administering a sharp blow on the side of the chest just behind the shoulder. Continue CPR until the cat is breathing on his own.

5. Bleeding needs to be stopped as quickly as possible. Apply pressure, bandages or tourniquets.

6. Cover wounds with dressings that are dry and clean.

7. The patient should be kept as warm as possible.

8. Do not move your cat unless absolutely necessary. They may have internal injuries that you are unaware of. Try to slip a blanket or board under the cat before moving, if you must move.

9. If your cat is unconscious, place him so his head is slightly lower than his body. Do not administer fluids, medicines or food to the injured cat.

10. Get your cat to an emergency veterinary center or your own vet as quickly as possible. If possible have someone phone ahead so the vet can be prepared.

11. Time is of the essence but do not speed. High speed or jarring movements can cause additional injuries.

Basic First Aid Kit

Following is a list of items you should have in a special first aid kit for felines in your family. The items listed are in addition to common household items, such as scissors, blankets, mineral oil, bicarbonate of soda and mineral oil. You'll also want to be sure that towels or a blanket are readily accessible to restrain your cat.

Gauze bandages, 1 "and 2" rolls (I each)

Large gauze dressing pads (8)

Adhesive medical tape (1)

Roll of cotton wool (I)

Triangular bandage (1)

Rectal thermometer (1)

Cotton balls (6)

Tweezers (I)

3% hydrogen peroxide (2 oz)

Milk of Magnesia tablets (10)

Activated charcoal tablets (20)

Kaolin mixture (2 oz)

Antibacterial ointment – for eyes and skin

Restraining an Injured Cat

Even if your cat trusts you implicitly he can harm you when injured or ill. A cat's natural instinct is to flee from the pain they are feeling and they are likely to strike out at you, even if severely injured.

You will need to carefully (so you do not cause additional injury) immobilize your cat's claws by securing the two front legs together in one hand just above the feet and wrapping adhesive tape around them. Then fasten the rear legs in the same manner (unless they are obviously injured). You can now examine your cat without worrying about being clawed and scratched. To prevent biting hold the head firmly.

Choking

If your cat is choking you can clear the throat by reaching in with tweezers or your fingers and trying to remove the obstruction. If the blockage is further down, lay the cat on his side, place the heel of your hand behind the last rib and push firmly as you angle slightly upward. Four quick thrusts, then try again.

Difficulties Breathing

If your cat is in respiratory distress, remove the cat's collar, open his mouth and pull his tongue forward so it does not block the throat. Pull his head and neck forward, then put your hands on his ribs and push down suddenly. Release. This should get the stale air out of the lungs and replenish them with fresh air. Now, close your cat's mouth and put your mouth over his nose, blowing firmly (but not too hard – you're not trying to inflate him) for about three seconds. Rest two seconds, and then repeat. Keep this up until your cat is breathing normally or for 30 minutes.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

If your cat does not have a heartbeat, do the following:

1. With one hand, place your thumb on the cat's chest at the point of the elbow and your fingers on the other side of the chest cavity.

2. Squeeze gently but firmly at the rate of one compression per second. After five compressions, follow the steps for artificial breathing above without stopping the compressions.

3. Monitor your cat for signs of life, such as spontaneous respiration or a heartbeat.

CPR can be continued for up to 15 minutes before chance of revival are slim. If possible, have someone drive you to the vet as you administer CPR.

Bleeding

As always, direct pressure is the most effective means of controlling bleeding. Place a sterile pad directly over the wound and apply firm, even pressure. If blood comes through the pad, do not remove it. Just place another over it because you do not want to interfere with any clotting going on. If a limb is bleeding you may be able to elevate it to slow bleeding, but only if it is not fractured.

If direct pressure does not work, try indirect pressure on the arteries that supply blood to the region. These can be found on the inside of the upper surface of the forelimb and hind limb and on the underside of the base of the tail.

A tourniquet is a last resort. Never use a tourniquet around the neck.

Once bleeding is controlled get your cat to the veterinarian or to an emergency hospital as quickly as possible.

Shock

When an accident or injury occurs, you need to be aware of the signs of shock. These can include a decrease in or loss of consciousness, pale mucous membranes (gums, rims of the eyes) a slow or rapid pulse, shallow or rapid breathing and the body feeling cold to the touch.

If you suspect your cat is in shock, do not give him any water, even if he wants it. In cases of severe shock, the digestive track will not absorb the water correctly and your cat may accidentally inhale the water rather than swallow it. The best way to treat shock is through intravenous fluids and medications administered by a skilled veterinarian. Note that shock can occur up to 10 to 12 hours after an accident or injury.

Broken Bones

Usually, broken, fractured or dislocated bones are not life threatening. Although you do want to immobilize the injury to keep it from becoming more severely injured. Telling whether a bone is sprained, fractured or dislocated can be difficult without an X-ray, however, there may be some swelling and your cat may not be able to use his leg. If the spine is injured none of the legs may work.

If at all possible you want to apply a splint to the area. Sticks are best or use a rolled up newspaper or towel. Make sure it extends beyond the area that's injured so the joints above and below are immobilized as well. Tape it in place, but not so tight that it cuts off circulation.

Get your cat to the vet as soon as possible. You may want to have someone call ahead so the staff knows that to expect. This goes for any type of injury covered here.

Master Mentalism Guide

Performing magic tricks, illusion and even mentalism is sure to make us stand out from the rest of the ‘maddening’ crowd. Magic tricks have always been a best seller; the trick is in carrying it out the ‘right way’. For a variety of reasons, society has always been interested in magic and tricks of illusion so much so, that most of the top entertainment centers like that of Las Vegas spend millions per annum in hiring some of the top magicians to perform in their clubs. The Master Mentalism Guide by Ryan Even and Mr. X is a 200 page downloadable e-book and explains all the nitty-gritty’s of the various magic tricks. It lays open the skeletons in the cupboard, so as to speak. The Master Mentalism Guide by Ryan Even and Mr. X is more of a guide, teaching one and all the tricks of the trade and comes in the ‘easy format’ style so the instructions that they contain can be easily understood.

Ever since time immemorial, as humans we have always been in awe of magic. In the good old days we would have called them ‘high priests’; today we call them performers. We must have all been intrigued by the various magic tricks performed in television from the trite s like the ‘rabbit out of a hat’ to the unusual like those of David Blane, standing suspended in a bloc of Ice in full public view. The former is a simple magic trick while the latter is more of a mentalism showpiece, the Master Mentalism Guide alleges to teach us all that and so much more.

With the Master Mentalism Guide, we should be able to get an idea of how the trick is played out. The first thing that we would need to understand is that there is no such thing as ‘actual magic’ and that everything that we have seen in television so far is a trick, no more, no less. The one common denominator for all the tricks showcased in many of the television shows is the showmanship that comes with each of them. Quite often, it is this showmanship that sets the mood of the crowd and makes them fall for the trick, one and all.

With the Master Mentalism Guide, we should soon be on our way to performing magic and tricks of illusion. Most of the secrets contained here in this e-book had been explained out to Ryan Even by none other than the mysterious Mr.X. Well, that line may sound like something straight out of ‘pulp fiction’ but seems to be the truth. Anyway, currently this e book sells for $47 and by clicking on the ‘BUY NOW’ link we can avail ourselves to a $10 discount and cut the price further down to $37.

How Much Money A CDL Truck Driver Can Make?

I have my CDL what do I do now?

So you have taken all your practice tests and passed your CDL tests. You are only half way done. You still have to find a job. There are many jobs available. You could drive over the road from state to state, you could drive a delivery truck and stay within 20 miles of your home, or you could drive a portable toilet truck. It all depends on your circumstances and what you are willing to do.

Evaluate your options.

You can either drive over the road or drive locally. Over the road driver’s usually make somewhere between $35,000 and $45,000 a year. The only bad thing is you will be away from home for weeks at a time. The pay is pretty good and the job is secure.

Local drivers usually make less than over the road drivers, but they get to go home every night. Most local drivers are class B drivers. These drivers usually drive box trucks and buses. The pay is usually between $30,000 and $35,000 for a basic local truck driving job.

Not all local drivers make less money than over the road drivers. Some local drivers work for oil waste recovery companies and make make $55,000 a year. These drivers have their hazardous materials endorsement and go through recurring hazardous materials training. Another specialty niche where drivers can make good money and stay near home is in the septic industry. These drivers have class b licenses and are trained to locate and pump out septic tanks.

It all depends on what you want to do.

Are you willing to do more than just drive, but also provide a service? Drivers that provide a special service on top of driving are the ones that make the real money, but the work is harder. If you are single over the road driving maybe your best bet. You can have a steady job and work for a big company.

Glutathione Therapy and Parkinson's Disease

Anyone living with Parkinson's disease knows that there are good and bad days. For days when there are challenges, a new treatment, one that is relatively affordable, effective, and safe has been discovered. Dr. Perlmutter who pioneered Glutathione therapy has helped to change many people's lives. The results have been good and while IV Glutathione therapy is not a miracle worker, eliminating all symptoms, it has shown to slow the progression of the disease.

Studies show that as many as 90% of people who have undergone Glutathione therapy have seen huge changes. With Parkinson's disease, dopamine receptors begin to lose their ability to be sensitive. However, by using this particular type of treatment, the brain's dopamine begins to function more normally, which improves levels of sensitivity. Additionally, studies also show that serotonin levels within the brain are also brought back to a normal range, which alleviates problems of depression.

For people who use Glutathione therapy, 1,400 milligrams daily with saline is typical. In most cases, patients would be provided with an IV drip three times a week for ten minutes each session. This way, the medication can get into the bloodstream slowly and effectively. There are also other forms of Glutathione to include supplements and liquid but for Parkinson's disease, IV Glutathione is the only method that works. In addition, some doctors prefer to add in various types of amino acids and milk thistle to make the treatment even more effective.

When it comes to IV Glutathione therapy a number of advances have been made but one in particular for patients with Parkinson is certain traditional drugs such as Levodopa that have a lot of side effects can be eliminated. However, anyone interested in using Glutathione should first consult with their doctor before stopping any prescribed medication. If the doctor agrees, it might be that Glutathione therapy is a much better solution.

IV Glutathione therapy offers many benefits to include there being no real side effects. Unfortunately, many other medications cause not only side effects, but also increased risk of serious and life-threatening problems to include stroke and heart attack. Although the cost of Glutathione therapy is a little higher than other options, it works exceptionally well. The good news is that most insurance companies are now providing partial or full coverage of this substance because it has been approved by the FDA.

Within a short time of a person with Parkinson's disease being placed on IV Glutathione therapy, they begin to respond to the treatment. This means the patient starts to take back some control over his or her life. As you can imagine, both patients and medical professionals are anxious to get this treatment option out to the public. Although IV Glutathione therapy is used commonly to Parkinson's, doctors are finding that it also helps with other health problems such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and so on.

People who have Parkinson's disease or any other medical condition now have a new and exciting treatment option. With Glutathione therapy, relief is imminent. Because the results have been so astounding, this is quickly becoming a mainstream treatment options accepted by the medical community.

Promote a Healthy Diet for Your Children at Home and at School

Children are likely to eat the same as their parents. As parents, you can be a positive role model for healthy eating. By purchasing and preparing nutritious balanced meals, you can establish a healthy diet at home.

A healthy environment at home is a good start, but the kids take most of their meals at school. By sending your kids to school with nutritious lunches and encouraging healthy choices for school events, you can also help to create a healthy nutritional environment in schools.

The offering healthy foods at school improves student learning. Research shows that children who have a healthy diet are:

• more willing to learn;

• more likely to achieve better results at school;

• less likely to have chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and certain types of cancer.

The government is working with schools, educators and parents to encourage healthy eating at school. In April 2008, the Act on Healthy Food for Healthy Schools was passed to make schools healthier learning environments. By working together and making all our part, we can help our children to make healthier choices.

Create a healthier school environment

The idea supporting the Act on Healthy Food for Healthy Schools is to help children make healthier food choices. This means that healthy and tasty foods should be made available to children in schools.

In September 2011, the Ontario schools will implement the policy on food and beverages in schools. It provides guidance on the types of foods that can be sold in school cafeterias, vending machines and at school events. Policy helps schools determine which foods they can or can not sell.

Your children need YOU

Wherever possible, try to participate in the school life of your child, making sure that the foods offered in the school are healthy. Make your voice heard. Here are some ideas:

• Talk to your child and tell him why healthy foods are important in school and why some food he could buy during the previous school year are no longer available.

• Prepare lunches and healthy snacks to school with your child.

• Join a parent / teacher committee to help make good decisions on proposed school food.

• Opt for healthy recipes at bake sales and fundraisers with the proposed ideas Bake it Up!(English only).

What can you do to encourage healthy eating?

The Policy on food and beverages in schools covers only food sold at school. It does not apply to meals from home. Does this mean that you should not put anything in any lunch box for your child? No, especially if you encourage healthy eating! It is important to be consistent and to provide healthy meals for your children at home and at school. This will allow them to learn to make healthy choices for food.

At the grocery store:

Choose products from the four food groups of Canada’s Food Guide.

Go shopping with your children to teach them to make good choices. They can learn the value of food, provenance and revenue opportunities.

Teach your children to read food labels. Watch these videos on nutrition labeling with your children.

During the preparation of lunch:

Involve your children in the selection and preparation of food. When children are involved in meal preparation, they are more likely to consume.

Get creative! Use cookie cutters to make sandwiches fun shapes, make fruit kebabs and pastries offer whole grain low fat. Read the FAQ Prepare lunches and healthy snacks for students for more ideas.

During the meal:

Eat together as often as possible. Children who eat with their parents (at least four times per week) tend to eat more fruits and vegetables, have a higher fiber intake, eat less fried foods and drink less soda.

They are also less prone to being overweight or obese.

Be a good role model. When you make healthy food choices for yourself, you teach your children to eat healthily.

In conclusion:

Promote healthy eating by helping to feed your children at school and at home. Bring the kids to the grocery store, prepare healthy meals and encourage healthy activities in school. As a model for your children, you must teach them healthy eating habits that will last a lifetime.

The Plan That Works For Weight Loss Fast

Here are the three steps to follow to lose weight fast:

  1. Reduce your Appetite Significantly.
  2. Lose weight fast, without you having to go hungry.
  3. While improving your metabolic health.

Everything is supported by scientific studies.

Step 1 – Reduce Sugars and Starches

The most important part is that you reduce sugar and starch. As these foods encourage the secretion of more insulin. For you did not know, insulin is the main fat storage hormone in our body.

Another benefit of reducing insulin is that your kidneys remove excess sodium and water from your body, which is able to reduce the swelling. It is not uncommon to lose up to 4 kilos in early days of eating this way, eliminating weight through body fat and water. The group of people taking a diet low in carbohydrates can eat until you feel full, while the low-fat group has restricted calories and hungry. By reducing carbohydrates, low insulin and start to eat fewer calories automatically and without going hungry. In short, reduced insulin makes fat loss on “autopilot”.

Conclusion:

Eliminate sugars and starches (carbohydrates) from your diet will reduce your insulin levels, reducing appetite and making you lose weight without starving.

Step 2 – Eat Proteins, Fats and Vegetables

Each of your meals should have a protein source, a fat source and other low carbohydrate vegetables. Thus making your meals get a carbohydrate intake to the recommended 20-50 grams per day range.

How Much Protein You Need?

Protein foods:

  • Meat: Beef, chicken, pork, lamb, bacon, etc.
  • Fish and seafood: salmon, trout, shrimp, lobsters, etc.
  • Eggs: Eggs enriched with Omega-3 (organic eggs)

A high protein diet is beneficial to your goals. It has been shown to increase feed with a protein metabolism at 80 to 100 calories per day. Diets high in protein also able to reduce by 60% the obsessive thoughts about food, they also reduce the desire to peck at the end of the day and make you feel fuller making you eat 441 calories less each day. When it comes to losing weight, protein is the nutrient king. Remember that.

Low carb vegetables:

  • Vegetables at meals
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Spinach
  • kale
  • Brussels sprouts.
  • Cabbage
  • Chard
  • Lettuce
  • Cucumber
  • Celery

Do not be afraid to fill your plate with these low carbohydrate vegetables. You can eat large amount of these vegetables and making it not go from 20 to 50 grams of carbohydrates per day.

A basad meat and vegetables diet contains all the fiber, vitamins and minerals you need to stay healthy. There is a physiological need to add beans to your diet. If you need a little help with food, diet shakes can help, but choose only the highest quality market, no full of chemicals.

Fat sources:

  • Benefits coconut oil
  • Olive oil
  • Coconut oil
  • Avocado oil
  • Butter
  • Tallow

Eat 3 times a day. If you feel hungry, you can add a fourth meal. Do not be afraid to eat fat, if you do so, You’ll feel weak and you’ll end up leaving. The best fat you can use for cooking is coconut oil. It is rich in fats called a (medium chain triglycerides). These fats get slightly increase metabolism. There is no reason to fear these natural fats, new research confirms us that saturated fat increases the risk of heart disease.

Conclusion:

Your meals should have a source of protein, a source of fat and low carbohydrate vegetables. This will put you in the range of 20 to 50 grams of carbs and get lower levels of insulin.

Step 3 – Lift Weights 3 Times A Week

Weight Training

You do not need to exercise to lose weight with this plan, but I recommend it. The best option is to go to the gym 3-4 times a week. You must perform a warm up, stretch and then lift weights. If you are new to the gym, do not hesitate to ask for help from a coach. Weight lifting will make you burn calories which slows down metabolism, which is a very common side effect of weight loss. Studies with low-carb diets have shown that manage to win some muscle mass while losing a significant amount of body fat. If you do not like weight lifting, then you can do some easy cardio exercises such as running, jogging, swimming or walking, that will be enough.

Conclusion:

The best option is to do some form of resistance training, such as lifting weights. If you’re not convinced, you can also do cardio exercises.

OPTIONAL – carbohydrate loading DO ONCE A WEEK

Alkaline Diet

One day a week you can eat more carbohydrates if you need it. Many people prefer Saturdays. It is important that you do it with healthy carbohydrates such as oats, rice, quinoa, potatoes, fruits, etc. Do this only once a week, if you do most days you will be ruining your weight loss goals. If you want to do a cheat meal and eat something unhealthy, then do it this day. Note that the cheat meals are not necessary, but can help regulate some hormones involved in fat burning, such as leptin and thyroid hormones. Perhaps this day you gain a little weight, but most will be water weight and lose easily get in the next 1-2 days.

Conclusion:

Having one day a week where you eat more carbohydrates is perfectly acceptable, but not required.

What About The Calories and Control Meals?

Apple diet

No need to count calories, as long as you keep the carbs low, stick to the protein, fat and low carbohydrate vegetables. The main objective is to maintain low carbohydrates (20- 50 grams a day) and get the rest of calories from protein and fat.

Conclusion:

There is no need to count calories to lose weight with this plan. It is very important that if you keep the carbs in the range of 20-50 grams per day.

Christianity and Verbal First Aid

Recently, a Christian colleague made it clear to me that he found the use of hypnosis at the very least questionable and at the very worst “dark.” He asked me to refrain from using it in my psychotherapy work with my contract patients in the agency he founded. For lack of time, I assured him that I would honor his wishes, but quickly pointed out to him that the use of hypnosis (whether it was formal trance or Verbal First Aid, which is the use of words to facilitate healing in acute situations, such as accidents or shock) was no different than the use of a knife. In the hands of a good surgeon, it could be a life-saver. In the hands of a madman, it would be dark indeed.

Afterwards, it became clear to me that his understanding of hypnosis and mine were quite different. And any good debate must begin with a clarification of terms. Too many reasonable discussions deteriorate into pointless argument because no one fully defines himself.

What do we mean then by trance and hypnosis? More specifically, what do Christians who fear hypnosis mean by it and what do ethical clinicians mean by it? For our purposes today, we will leave the madmen out of it.

The Christian Definitions or Concerns:

1. “Mesmerism”

It is very important to address this because what Christians fear about hypnosis is something rather fearful: deliberation manipulation, external mind control, or spell-casting that leaves a person open to spiritual corruption. They form their impressions of the technique from what they have read in popular media (including the early reports on “Mesmerism,” which was presented as a demonic seduction of young women by irresistible and wretched old men), watched on TV, or seen in lounge acts where hypnosis is reduced to having some poor sot play air guitar or bite happily into an onion.

It is not hard to see what makes them uneasy. And, what is worse is that there are people in the world who use hypnotic trance unethically. They may not be madmen, but they should not be calling themselves healers or professionals by any means.

In fact, the worst of these “trance inducers” have nothing to do with lounge acts or private practices. There are at least two times a day when most people are in the deepest, most vulnerable and suggestible trances they are ever in: When they are driving in their cars and when they are at home watching television. And the messages they receive in those states-usually corporate advertising-are what they are unconsciously absorbing.

2. Spiritual Bankruptcy

In Christianity’s beginnings, as in early Judaism, sickness (or insanity) was seen as a function of sin or possession. And the ONLY thing that could cure sin was God and our faith in Him. Anything that interfered with that relationship and dependence on God was prohibited. In those days, that interference usually took the shape of idolatry and pagan religions.

When seen as “mesmerism” or as a loss of control to an unknown entity (e.g., the intentions or spirituality of the hypnotherapist), hypnosis leaves the individual vulnerable to literally who-knows-what-malevolent suggestion, criminal manipulation, and demons.

As Father Russell Radoicich, an Orthodox priest from Butte, Montana, wrote, “Christianity has always called people to live in full awareness, in reality, with nothing having mastery over us except God.” When hypnosis is defined as making one person subject to another (spiritually or mentally), is it any wonder that it is seen as questionable if not downright dangerous?

Hypnosis seen this way-as a quick fix with little depth-can also be considered a crutch or a deterrent to spiritual growth, which is why Father Russell reminds us that “the spiritual work must be done or there is no true rehabilitation. People may lose weight or stop smoking, but the deeper matter has not been addressed.”

Hypnosis, when used as a proper tool in a healing manner, can actually help to facilitate what Fr. Russell is referring to as “the spiritual work” or “the deeper matter.” Again, it is in the hands of the practitioner and the patient as to where the work goes. And in this regard the choice of clinician is important.

3. The Loosening of Moral Inhibition

One of Christianity’s great fears about hypnosis is that it induces a moral laxity and makes the prohibited permissible in the patient’s mind. And, again, when hypnosis is seen this way its prohibition is understandable.

The truth, however, is that clinical hypnosis cannot make anyone do anything that would undermine their moral or ethical resolve.

In an article interview on Hypnosisnetwork, Paul Durbin, a United Methodist minister with a long history of clinical and pastoral service, recalls a famous story about Milton Erickson, M.D., one of the great hypnotherapists and psychiatrists of the last century.

One day Dr. Erickson went to his secretary and told her he was tired and wanted to rest. If anyone called, he told her, she was to say that he was out of the office. She agreed to do this for him. Some time later he put her in a hypnotic trance. He then made the same request-to tell people he was out of the office when he was in fact taking a break. While still in a formally induced trance, she refused him. “Why?” he wanted to know.

“Because,” she said, “it would be a lie.”

Ironically, in hypnosis she had a stronger moral resolve than in her normal waking state.

Hypnosis is not “brainwashing,” as Durbin points out. Brainwashing can be accomplished at any time, with or without formal trance simply by the constant repetition of suggestion. In our culture we call this advertising and media bombardment.

Let us now take a look at how responsible clinicians see hypnosis and how it can be helpful and safe for Christians to utilize it in their own healing process–whether that’s from a back injury, a surgical procedure, or a painful divorce.

The Clinical Definitions:

1. Trance As An Ordinary State of Consciousness

Perhaps the most important definition from the clinical point of view is that hypnosis only utilizes a state of consciousness that is already natural and normal. Trance is not something that is artificially induced in a person. It is not something the hypnotherapist “does” to the patient. It is simply a state of awareness in which we are more focused on an internal process (breathing, thoughts, heartbeat) and most importantly it is something all of us move in and out of all day.

Trance is normal rather than exceptional. What a good clinician will do is utilize that ordinary ability to shift awareness so that pain can be relieved, psychological blockages removed (e.g., fixations on traumatic events), and healing can be facilitated in a variety of ways.

This normal shift of awareness is even more common and spontaneous when we are frightened, hurt, or ill, which is why Verbal First Aid works so well to help stop bleeding, reduce an inflammatory response, and lower blood pressure. We can see it even more dramatically when it is used with children who enter fairly easily and frequently into “trance.”

2. Hypnosis is a Tool. Healing is Spiritual.

Healing is not dependent on one technique. A good healer or responsible clinician has more than one tool in her tool kit. Hypnosis may be one of them, but it is almost never the only one.

Hypnosis, when seen this way, as just another tool, becomes less threatening. Most clinicians acknowledge that the deepest healing is often spiritual in nature and that they are facilitators, not magicians.

Pope Pius addressed the concerns of Catholics regarding hypnosis in childbirth and stated that when used by a health care professional who was properly trained, treatment was permitted.

He also cautioned us that:

· Hypnosis was a serious issue and that it should not be toyed with;

· Practitioners should be guided by the same moral principles (Judeo-Christian ones) in their use of hypnosis as with anything else;

· The rules of good medicine must apply as much to hypnosis as to any other technique.

The truth is that no one other than God knows how healing actually occurs. We can suture one piece of skin to another, but how it knits together remains an ineffable mystery.

How Verbal First Aid Works in Alliance with Faith and the Faithful

If the definitions of trance as clinicians use it are accurate (and I believe they are) and the dangers are real as Christians see them (and I believe they certainly can be), how can the healing use of imagery work together with the faithful so that as Jesus said in John 10:10, “I am come that they may have life and have it more abundantly.”

In the beginning was the word.

That words are powerful is a familiar concept to those who read the Bible. According to many biblical scholars, the first sin was not pride, was not disobedience, was not sex. It was gossip-the misuse of words. And it is a most serious act with terribly dire consequences. The serpent whispers to Eve: “You shall not surely die.” He lied. He misled her and all of humanity, for with those words he surely brought us death.

And the only sin for which the Lord will not find us guiltless is using His name in vain.

Words have a prominent position in the Bible from the third sentence: And GOD SAID LET THERE BE LIGHT. He did not create with His “hands” or “eyes”. The “word” is used throughout to mean the “truth.” He spoke-“By the word of the Lord were the heavens made (Ps. 33).” To speak is to WILL into existence. What we say and how we say it is a co-creative act. What we say hangs somewhere between heaven and earth.

Words matter. The mystics have always known this. Only now is science catching up.

Why? Because they create images in the mind of the person to whom we are speaking. Those images and the thoughts that flow with them generate cascades of chemistry that dictate not only how we feel emotionally, but how fast or slow our hearts beat, how high our blood pressure goes, how profoundly we feel the pain of an injury, even the way our livers function.

We all use words all the time. And they have the power to help or to harm. This is already happening–on the streets, in our classrooms, on our cell phones, in our cars. What we say–and what we hear–changes the way we live and heal at the most fundamental levels. Isn’t it our obligation to make what we say as healing as possible? That’s what Verbal First Aid does–gives us the tools to be healing with our words.

Hypnosis is no different than a sermon, a lecture, a television show or a good book. It is the use of words to move us. When used in the right way with a proper intention, those words can help us heal.

Loving Yourself: The True Meaning of Self Love

When Krystalya Marie interviewed me on A2Zen.fm, we explored how the mind-body-spirit connection shows up in peoples' lives AND how my work clears the resulting suffering, I shared the fact that I had recently discovered the true meaning of Loving Yourself .

My words came in response to a caller who sounded terribly down on herself. She said she must not love herself because she could not attract good happy things, only feel bad things into her life. And the intensity of her struggle continued to escalate.

I told her I had been grappling with exactly the same issue until a revelation happened during my meditations. I get ALL my solutions during meditations. I HIGHLY recommend daily meditation of some form that works for you. Contact me for guidance in finding your own way to meditate.

What came to me, that was then confirmed two days later, is the fact that until you love yourself enough the Universe can not make you privy to the mess hidden out of your awareness that causes your suffering.

In other words, when you have so much love for yourself that you can make it through heavy duty momentary pain then you can free yourself forever.

What the heck am I talking about?

The Universe never presents you with a situation without also presenting possible solutions AND you also need to be in a place where you will allow those solutions into your awareness.

I had noticed the exact pattern working with clients for 15 years. Some people's issues came with great details revealed by their spirits during our work. I never asked them to recall memories because the whole point is the deepest pain lodges out of your awareness where it remains inaccessible to the conscious mind.

I also noticed that some clients spirits gushed forth with minute detail all across their life time. Yet other clients only flitted through those moments so I could catch them and enter them into the circuits I worked on yet we never knew the details of what happened when.

In both cases, the clients cleared the suffering for the specific issue on which we worked each circuit. Yet those who got to know the causes were the ones ready to handle AND DISMISS the emotional attachment to those issues.

The others knew the ideas and emotions of the root causes but did not experience the same opportunity to know what they cleared. That outcome left them vulnerable to repeating the patterns. Working together we disclosed the emotional pattern just not HOW the pattern showed up for them in real life instances.

When you love yourself the Universe throws stuff at you because It knows you are ready to heal as soon as you "get" the message the Universe has a major life lesson for you. When you fail to hear the message delivered in whispers it gets louder and louder and more in your face until you find yourself in crisis.

So there I was feeling upset with myself for not walking my talk by loving myself first – the main theme of my work in happiness. All the while I have been loving myself so much that the Universe has been, in essence, yelling at me letting me know exactly what I need to heal and to do so once and for all – so I can stop attracting more and more physically painful intensely serious circumstances to my world.

Shingles Symptoms – and Treatments

I can remember quite clearly some forty years ago when a friend told me that her husband had Shingles, and how that he was in great pain, and covered in a terrible rash. At this point I thought nothing about it until recently I was reading an article which compared different types of pain, and Shingles was mentioned.

As I write many different articles about medical health I began to check out what caused it, and why it was ranked as one of the most painful things you can get, so I began to investigate what the symptoms were, and what treatment was available.

Shingles comes from the same virus as the well known Chickenpox which lays dormant in anyone that has had chickenpox, or that has had the chickenpox vaccine. It normally affects older people where the dormant virus travels to the nerve endings in the skin area. From there the pain starts, and often patients have described the pain as coming in extreme waves that have been likened to that of an electric shock. After this stage the rash appears, which will blister and become very painful. These blisters can be full of bacteria, and great care should be taken with cleanliness.

What causes Shingles?

Several Doctors have different ideas on the causes of Shingles, but if the truth they don’t know. Some say it can start from stress, while others relate it to Cancer, or HIV. Radiation is another possibility, and also mentioned would be that it could be that part of the skin has been damaged in some way that sets the virus off. The most likely cause in my eyes is that the immune system gets severely run down, and that the virus which is normally kept at bay by our immune system, then breaks out.

Shingles Symptoms.

The things to look out for are extreme sensitivity in the skin, which tend to have a burning sensation, and slight itching. After this stage the skin becomes painful, and if you think that you may have shingles a call to your Doctor must be made, as the sooner an antiviral medication is given the easier for the patient it will be.

Care must also be taken should the patient have a form of rash near the nose, or on any part of the face. This is most important to get immediate medical help, as if the virus reaches the eyes it can lead to impaired vision, or a complete loss of sight.

Medical care.

With Shingles the sooner you get medical care the better for the patient it will be. Pain killers are a must, along with things like Antihistamine can help with the itching. Often the Doctor will recommend creams or oils that can stop the blisters from drying out to fast, and in several articles it is believed that cold water compresses bring great relief, and keep the skin moist.

If possible avoid contact with others that have not had chickenpox, especially if that person is older, and try to wear loose clothing that doesn’t irate the skin.

CDL Written Test Format

Every state has it’s own written exam format, but all the test questions and answers are nearly identical. For example, in Florida the written exam is taken on a computer and each question has a time limit. In New Jersey the written test is taken on paper and there is no time limit. Every state has to conform to federal law which forces all the states to have similar tests.

In most states the general knowledge test is 50 questions and the rest of the endorsements are about 25 questions. You can take as many permit tests as you want in one day. You can always go back to the DMV to get more endorsements. For example, when you first took the written test you only wanted to drive a combination vehicle with air brakes. Ten years later you now want to drive a school bus, so you can go back to the D.M.V and take the school bus endorsement test.

If you want to drive a tractor trailer equipped with air brakes and transporting hazardous material, you must take the general knowledge exam, the combination vehicle test, the air brakes endorsement test, and the hazmat endorsement test. If you want to drive a box truck with hydraulic brakes you are only required to pass the general knowledge exam.

Most perspective commercial drivers take the bare minimum of endorsement tests needed to get begin training and get their commercial license. Usually the bare minimum consists of the general knowledge test and the air brakes endorsement test.

Alternate Therapies

When we speak of medicine or treatment of diseases, we often take into consideration, only the scientific or commonly known as Allopathic medicine. However, in reality, there are a wide range of therapies and treatments in the world that do not involve use of any chemicals and are considered to be safe.

These practises or therapies, form a second branch of medicine, known as Alternative Medicine or Alternate Therapy. The scientific strata call this form of treatment as baseless or unscientific. Even terms like ‘quackery’ are associated with it. But there are a large number of people who prefer these forms of medication to the conventional medical treatment.

These alternate therapies are practised with an aim to heal. It is the belief of those who follow it that the body suffers less damage overall through such alternate therapies. Since there is no empirical evidence that these alternate therapies fight diseases as effectively as general medicine, we cannot confirm this belief.

Let us now take a look at some of the most common alternate therapies:

1. Acupuncture

It is a form of Chinese alternate therapy, where very thin needles are inserted into specific points (acupuncture) in the body. It is used most commonly for pain relief. Also, it is not used entirely on its own, rather with the normal course of a treatment.

Acupuncture is recommended for lower back pain, muscle stiffness, etc.

2. Chiropractic

It is used to diagnose and treat mechanical issues of the musculoskeletal system. That includes the spinal cord, major joints and tissues. The belief is that these issues can affect the general health of a person, via the nervous system. The therapy involves manipulation of spine, setting of bones and massaging parts to relieve pains.

3. Homeopathy

This is a popular form of alternate therapy, especially in India. It runs on the belief that ‘like cures like’, meaning, substances that cause diseases in healthy people, can cure them in sick people.

Medication in this system is delivered through solutions, which are poured onto sugar pills or homeopathic pills, which are then consumed.

4. Naturopathy

A rather new creation, naturopathy, involves a combination of homeopathy, acupuncture, good diet and sufficient exercise. It draws from various natural healing ideas. Most often these treatments are said to have a placebo effect, where the disease cures itself overtime and a person feels like it is the medicine doing the trick.

5. Ayurveda

Ayurveda, one of the oldest forms of medicine, practised anywhere in the world, originated in the Indus Valley Civilization, around 5000 BCE.

Ayurveda is a Sanskrit term which means life-knowledge (Ayu-life, Veda – Knowledge). It basically involves, diagnosis of the patient, by checking the Nadi or pulse and various other factors like the tongue, eyes etc.

Medication involves crushing various herbs, known to have medicinal properties, using natural oils and other things. No form of chemical is permitted into the medication, as it is seen as a toxin.

Although Ayurveda falls under alternate therapies, most medical practitioners have conceded that the use of certain plants and herbs, to cure diseases, are similar to that in allopathy, where herb and plant extracts are used. However, it is considered a pseudoscience, due to lack of empirical evidence.

6. Reiki

It is a well renowned, alternative healing practice, which originated in Japan.

It uses, what is referred to as ‘Palm Healing’. The healer, uses his palm, to radiate universal energy on the patient and this transfer of energy, in turn, causes a healing process which begins within the body.

7. Others:

• Faith Healing

• Osteopathy

• Chinese Medicine, etc.

Alternate medicine, used to be a lot more prominent and accepted earlier, before the advances in general medicine. People, even in the earlier parts of the 20th century, often turned alternate medicine, when they were told that their condition was not curable. But, mid-century, when there were some phenomenal discoveries made in the field of science and medicine, allopathy gained prominence and medical practitioners or doctors became Gods. Which is not wrong, considering how many lives are saved every day by them.

But there are certain advantages that alternate therapies have over normal medicine.

Advantages of Alternative Therapies

• They do not use harmful chemicals and are more than often, safer to consume for almost anyone, even children after a certain age.

• They are not as expensive as allopathic medications are, sometimes.

• They have healing as their base. So the idea is not just to cure and leave it, but to heal the body.

• Allopathic medication uses extracts, while most medication in alternative therapy uses the plant as a whole. This means it is cost effective.

• It is said to have a longer lasting effect and can be taken over a longer period without any significant harm.

• Many forms of alternate healing, like faith healing, don’t use any medication at all. They simply make use of spiritual beliefs and prayers. This is least harmful if done in a normal and non-extreme fashion.

And like anything that has advantages, alternate therapy has its disadvantages too. Looking at both advantages and disadvantages will help you get a clearer picture of what is more feasible.

Disadvantages of Alternate Therapies

• Takes a very long time to show effect. Sometimes months or years too

• There may be allergic reactions that cannot be understood previously, since no tests are conducted as such.

• Medication in alternate therapies, may not suit everyone. It could make a situation worse.

• There is no concrete diagnosis. Allopathic medical practitioners, make use of a variety of tests before prescribing any medication. But in alternate therapies, there is only diagnosis based on the senses.

• The most serious criticism against alternative therapies is that, there is no empirical evidence that it can actually cure a disease. Only theories exist.

They say that all healing takes place in the mind. They also say that you if you can’t see the results, it isn’t real.

But the ultimate question is about your faith in the process. We are all slaves of our mind. If our mind believes we can be cured through one thing and not the other, our body will never be completely fine.

Real or not, alternate therapy is an existing practise. One which has gained prominence and followers worldwide. And after all, no matter what the medicine. If it goes in and kills the disease, it is a miraculous poison!

So go on.. name your poison?

The Roadblocks To A Healthy Diet

Part 1 in a Series of 3 – Ignoring The Obvious

I’m going to return to the basics in this article. All to often in seems everyone is caught up in a fad diet, complicated method, or magic product to lose weight. It’s a shame. It’s a shame because these products will more often than not get you nowhere. With this preponderance on everything but the diet people are missing the foundational elements of any diet that will help you lose weight: Smart and healthy food selection.

It is an indisputable scientific fact that your body requires a healthy well balanced diet to perform at its peak. If you want to lose weight you have to eat right. There is no way around that. There are no magic pills or systems that can achieve results that are sustainable and healthy. These products can certainly aid in your quest but in no way are they the solution. If you are considering buying diet products look at them as a means to an end as opposed to the actual solution.

The basic building blocks to a healthy diet are good quality supplies of carbohydrates, food products that are high in fiber content, and proteins. Much has been written and spectacles have been made about what you are allowed and not allowed to eat. It is written and spoken about like there is one singular hard lined method that sets out a yes group and a no group. If you deviate from those listing you will fail. It’s nonsense.

Instead of worrying about what foods you can and cannot eat you should educate yourself to the types of building blocks that encompass healthy eating. You should create some foundational knowledge about the properties of food and what offers nutritional value. That’s the real way to lose weight and keep it off. The key to any diet is increasing your quality of living without making it a living hell. That’s what those fad diets and set in stone guideline programs do. They restrict without teaching. They forbid without explaining. All the dieter gets is a confusing chart that they have to make sense of. There is no education in losing weight with these programs.

Another problem dieters run into when wanting to lose weight is fanatical label reading. Sure, a food label can provide some insight into what you are putting into your body. But it ends there. That’s what it should be used for. The fact of the matter is that food labels are created by the company making the food. They want to make that product as attractive to the consumer as possible. As a result, often times these labels are overly selective about the information they provide. In addition every figure they provide is relative. It is not personalized for each individual eater. Thus relying on food labels to center your diet around is useless, impossible, and frustrating.

It is pretty clear that you cannot rely on these sources to create a healthy diet that lasts. You will not lose weight this way. While these things can certainly help once you have a proper and efficient system in place, these things are by no means the answer to the problem of losing weight. In part 2 I will outline how to create a diet that will last and get you to lose weight.

Struggling With Weight Loss? Learn the 5 Most Effective Weight Loss Strategies

Being fat is a big issue for many. Not only does it affect one’s health but also his personality; countless people are suffering from cardiovascular problems due to fat accumulation and so many have been bullied and ridiculed because of obesity. Losing weight is the best defense against these problems but it in this area, many have failed miserably and have given up the battle. Weight loss tips and tricks are easily accessed in books, magazines, and in the internet but, do these really work? Here are some pointers you must observe when losing weight and for sure, you will be provided with great weight loss help.

Find your inspiration.

This is the first of the several weight loss secrets you must know. People fail to lose weight because they are not ready for it. Letting go of the delicious foods and an exercise-free life is very difficult and it is quite impossible to do it unless you have the motivation. Just like in other aspects of life, an inspiration keeps you going no matter how tough things are. You need to find the reason behind your weight loss, be it for better health or for improvement of physical appearance.

Discipline yourself.

The next thing you need to focus on is to condition yourself to commit to the entire weight loss process which involves eating the right foods and doing intense physical activities. Every now and then, you will be tempted to cheat on your diet and skip your exercises. You will certainly find this hard to evade but learn to prioritize things and determine which will give you benefits in the long run. Is eating that thick slab of pork going to be good for your already deteriorating health? Is it worthy to set your health aside just so you can eat all the delicious foods in the world?

Eat a balanced diet.

The body needs nutrients in order to function properly and these can only be obtained from the foods we ingest. However, there are also junk foods that do not do any good to the body. Eating these kinds of foods will just make your task more difficult by adding unnecessary fats and calories. A fat burning diet must consist of foods that are rich in the essential nutrients. The best foods to eat to lose weight include eggs, fish, lean meat, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and non-fat dairy products.

Most people complain that fat burning meals are usually bland but in fact, you do not have to be confined to unappetizing body fat burning foods all your life. Adding flavor to your otherwise tasteless meals is very easy as there are a lot of very flavorful fat loss foods available in the market. For example, olive oil contains healthy fats and adds flavor to your salads. Herbs are also great flavor enhancers and some even have antioxidant properties to help you fight free radicals.

Allow yourself to indulge once in a while but stay within the limits. You can eat ice cream but limit yourself to a scoop. Also, opt for healthier alternatives. When you want to eat bread, avoid eating white bread and go for wheat bread instead. Have your foods steamed, grilled, or roasted instead of frying them, to prevent the consumption of extra fats.

Get involved in physical activities.

You will not lose weight now if you do not move those muscles. Physical activities demand energy and the body responds to this by burning stored fats and turning them into energy. Hence, physical activities provide a way on how to lose fats. Body fat burning exercises do not have to be done in gyms or fitness centers because you can burn fats by merely helping with the house chores. Cleaning, gardening, and looking after the children require a considerable amount of energy so you burn a large amount of stored fats.

Instead of sticking to fat loss workouts, incorporate your favorite sports to make weight loss more enjoyable. Tennis and swimming are examples of fast fat burning sports because they involve both the upper and lower extremities, allowing the movement of almost all the muscles.

Give time for relaxation.

Relaxation is an important component of a healthy weight loss because it allows the body to rest and repair the torn muscles caused by intense workouts. The body also needs to relax and diminish the stress brought about by work, studies, and family. It has been known that stress makes the brain release hormones that induce appetite, so taking time to unwind is essential to weight loss.

You can use relaxation as a reward once you reach a weight loss milestone. If you lose more than 10 pounds in a month, head to the spa and have a relaxing massage. If you find shopping relaxing, go ahead and buy that dress you have been eyeing for a long time now.

Losing weight is surely difficult in the beginning but once you get the rhythm of it, everything will be very easy. And for sure, all your efforts will be rewarded in the end.

First Aid Tips for Dog Owners

Your dog deserves the best care from you as an owner. However many owners are confused when it comes to emergencies that concerns their pets. Having first aid knowledge for your dog could be useful at the right time. It is important to know what to do. If the situation arises where your dog needs medical help or some sort of first aid assistance, then it will be up to you to provide the care that your dog needs. The first aid below is only a small sample and does not cover every situation.

Constipation: A dog, which is constipated, fails to empty its bowels and the waste matter is absorbed back into the blood stream. Constipation should be treated with Agaroll or a similar purgative. If this treatment does not cure the condition, veterinary advice will be necessary.

Coughs: Coughing in dogs may be caused by an obstruction of the throat in which case removal of the obstruction will prevent further coughing. Dogs with heart or lung disorders may cough as a result of these disorders.

Diarrhea: Frequent passage of abnormally soft feces is known as diarrhea. While the most common cause is incorrect feeding, it can also be a symptom of distemper, gastroenteritis or worms. Dogs with diarrhea should be placed on a diet of carbohydrates and dosed with Kao Magna. If symptoms persist, veterinary advice should be sought.

Dermatitis: Dermatitis can be caused by allergies to plants, pollens, soaps and external parasites. It can also be a result of incorrect diet, lack of exercise or infection of minor skin irritations. The initial symptoms are small patches of red skin, which are extremely itchy. These progresses to become small blisters. At this stage they may dry up and disappear, but in most untreated cases they burst, the fluid spreads and this causes fresh sores. These sores become filled with pus, which spreads even further. As some types of dermatitis are contagious, dogs showing symptoms should be isolated. The area surrounding the infection should be shaved and the sores gently washed with an antibacterial skin cleanser. An antibiotic spray or lotion should be applied three times daily. As the skin heals, an ointment such as Propamadine should be applied daily in severe cases; veterinary treatment may be necessary.

Heat Exhaustion:

•The main causes of heat exhaustion in dogs are:

•Excessive work in high temperature.

•Exposure to hot sun without cover being available

•Hot, poorly ventilated kennel conditions.

The symptoms of heat exhaustion are:

•Excessive panting and salivating.

•Loss of energy,

•Staggering gait,

•Rapid pulse, and

•Very high temperature

Treatment – for the condition consists of:

•Removal of the dog to a cool, airy position,

•Application of cold water to the entire body and ice to the head and neck

•Supply of drinking water to which honey or glucose has been added.

All cases of heat exhaustion must be reported to the veterinary surgeon as soon as possible. It’s also important that you must have some sort of first aid kit or medical equipment with you so that you’re prepared in the event that something does happen to your dog.
