Diabetic Ketoacidosis Signs

Diabetes is often referred to as a metabolic disorder because the body can’t deal with sugars that are digested from the food that we eat. These types of foods are predominantly carbohydrates that are broken down in the intestine and then absorbed into the blood. In a normal functioning metabolism insulin would be secreted that would reduce the level of glucose and create energy that the cells can use to function. For diabetics this does not happen because the insulin is not effective or can’t be created. Diabetic ketoacidosis is a complication of this condition that is commonly associated with type 1 diabetes. It is probably the most serious consequence of diabetes as it often results in the person going into a coma and even dieing. This article will discuss some diabetic ketoacidosis signs and why the condition occurs.

Type 1 diabetes differs from type 2 in that the body thinks the cells that produce insulin are harmful to the body and destroys them. This means that the person with type 1 diabetes has to replace the insulin using an insulin pump or injection. This is often when ketoacidosis can occur. If the person forgets to take insulin, undergoing an operation or have no available insulin then a number of things happen to the body.

The glucose levels will rise in the blood. However there is no insulin, so this glucose can’t be used as energy for the cells. The brain tells the body that it is starving. This triggers the back up system, the metabolizing of stored protein and fat cells. The body starts to create energy out of fatty tissues and muscles.

During this process the increased fatty acids go to the liver where they are converted to ketones bodies. Ketone bodies are an alternative to glucose and produce energy for some of the bodies major organs, the brain in particular. Amino acids from muscle cells go to the liver to be converted to glucose. This glucose is absorbed into the bloodstream leading to increase blood sugar levels or hyperglycemia. However it still can’t be converted to energy, so more fat and muscle tissues are used. This leads to more ketones being created. Ketone bodies are acidic and as too much of this substance goes into the bloodstream the blood begins to become acidic.

The normal ph level of human blood is around 7.5. With too much ketone bodies in the blood it may drop to well below this level. This has catastrophic effects on many of the tissues and organs of the body. It ultimately leads to coma and death.

Some common signs of early Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a loss of appetite, vomiting, pain in the stomach, fast or panicked breathing and disorientation. A classic symptom is a ‘fruity’ breath because substances in the blood like acetone. The hyperglycemia will also cause polyuria or frequent urination. This will also make the sufferer feel dehydrated.

In the early stages of DKA putting insulin into the body will solve the problem but if it is at an advanced stage it is a good idea to call a doctor, medical professional or ambulance.

Diabetes – Symptoms, Test and Control

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a defect in the body’s ability to convert glucose to energy. It is caused due to insufficient production of glucose by the pancreas. In diabetes patients, the production of glucose is impaired.

What are the symptoms of Diabetes?

Patients with Type-1 diabetes usually develop symptoms over a short period of time, and the condition is often diagnosed in an emergency setting.

Symptoms of type 1 diabetes:

  • Increased thirst
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Increased urination
  • Weight loss in spite of increased appetite
  • Vomiting

However, because Type-2 diabetes develops slowly, some people with high blood sugar experience no symptoms at all.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

  • Increased thirst
  • Impotence in men
  • Increased appetite
  • Increased urination
  • Blurred vision
  • Fatigue
  • Slow-healing infections

How to diagnose diabetes?

The diagnosis of diabetes is made by a simple blood test measuring blood glucose level. Usually blood glucose level tests are repeated on a subsequent day to confirm the diagnosis. Your health care team may also request that you have a glucose tolerance test. If two hours after taking the glucose drink your glucose level is 200 or above, you will be diagnosed as having diabetes.

How can I control diabetes?

  • Gather all the information about diabetes, its symptoms and causes
  • Check your blood glucose level regularly
  • If find any symptom of diabetes, visit your health care team for diagnosis of diabetes
  • Ask your health care team about how to check blood glucose level at home
  • Stop smoking
  • Exercise daily
  • Follow a healthy meal plan
  • Check your vision at regular intervals, If found blurred visit your health care team
  • Check your feet regularly for checking the occurrence of diabetes
  • If you are diabetic, monitor you diabetes regularly
  • Follow instructions of health care team strictly
  • Avoid sweet ingredients, use sugar free food

Can diabetes be cured?

As yet, there is no treatment for either type of diabetes, although there are many ways of keeping diabetes in control. Studies have shown that good control of blood glucose (blood sugar) is the key to avoid diabetic complications later.

What are the treatment options to cure diabetes?

Diabetes is incurable. The only option is to prevent ourselves from diabetes or to keep diabetes under control.

Is diabetes a hereditary disease?

You are at higher risk of Type 2 diabetes if you have a parent, brother or sister with diabetes.

Complications of Diabetes

If you have diabetes, you are much more likely to have a risk of stroke, heart disease, or a heart attack. In fact, 2 out of 3 people with diabetes die from stroke or heart disease. There are three conditions that make people with diabetes vulnerable to foot problems. These are vascular disease and foot deformities. About 30 percent of patients with Type 1 diabetes and 10 to 40 percent of those with Type 2 diabetes eventually will suffer from kidney failure. Diabetes also may cause damage to nerves in your body.

Obesity: a Sickness for the Rich

Obesity is a type of malnutrition that involves excess intake of food nutrients in relation to the normal requirement needed by the human body for optimal growth and performance.

Obesity is a sickness that is mostly associated with the rich people in the society. One develops obesity when he consumes more energy than he can use in his daily activity. Although obesity is believed to be a sickness for the rich, it can also be a disease for the poor.

Aside taking of excess food, Obesity can still occur when one lives a sedentary life. A sedentary is a life that is characterized by reduced physical activity. This type of sickness is what people like me who work daily on a personal computer suffers if they don’t take time.

People living in developed countries are likely to be vulnerable to this type of sickness since they mostly have a sedentary work, They use machines to perform their daily routine activity and always move around by car.

What puzzles me most is that I still see thin people who eat a lot of food, with little or no exercise and they are still thin. On the other side of the coin, I still see people who eat little or no food with much exercise and they are still obsessed.

Which ever is the case, try and take your nutrient requirements very serious

Types of Rashes

A rash is a general term for a change in the color, or texture of area of your skin. Rashes can have a number of causes, including allergies, irritants, or illness. To help determine the cause of the rash, your health care provider will look at the rash and take into account other symptoms you might be experiencing such as itching or fever. It is important to know where on your body the rash started, where it spread, and when it first appeared.

Scaly and Itchy

At any time in your life you might develop a skin condition known as eczema which causes scaly, itchy red rashes. Eczema can occur in anybody at any age and for many different reasons, however eczema is made up of several types of skin conditions including atopic dermatitis and contact dermatitis.

Dry skin Rash

The most common skin rash among adults is the dry skin rash. Having dry skin could cause one to develop skin rashes because of the dryness. Dry skin is easily irritated, especially during cold and dry seasons. However these are just triggering factors. Skin becomes extremely itchy and inflamed, causing redness, swelling, cracking, weeping, crusting and scaling. This type of rash comes and goes, even with out medication. However when skin is subjected to too much scratching, skin may become infected.

Ringworm is a circular rash with a raised border. It is usually just one and it is causes by a fungal infection, not by a worm. It can occur anywhere on the body and anyone can get one. Ringworm is contagious. Dogs and cats can be carriers. There are over-the-counter medications for ringworm, but see your doctor if it gets worse or spreads or occurs on the scalp which can cause hair loss.

Adult Chicken Pox

Chicken pox or adult chicken pox is an illness that affects the skin and is caused by the varicella zoster virus. This type of virus belongs to the herpes family of viruses. Most people acquire chickenpox when they are children, but this skin problem can also occur during adulthood. chicken pox is more likely in tropical countries. Over 90 per cent of people worldwide will become infected with the chicken pox virus during their lifetime, unless they are vaccinated against it.

Rash in Newborns

Although we tend to think of babies having “perfect” skin, in fact, rashes are very common in newborns (babies less than one month old). They can be bumps, blisters, or scaly patches; they can appear on the scalp, face, body and diaper area. Most rashes are not cause for concern, but some rashes need a doctor’s attention.

Eczema, or dermatitis (its medical term), is a group of skin conditions which can affect all age groups. Up to one fifth of all children of school age have dermatitis, along with about one in twelve of the adult population.

Childhood Skin Problems – Cold Sores, Canker Sores and Heat Rash

According to statistics only about 10% of the adult population of the United States have never had a cold sore or fever blister. The rest of us have suffered at some time or perhaps many times in our life.

Cold sores are caused by a virus known as the herpes simplex type 1. This virus is closely related to the virus that causes chicken pox. The virus is characterized by fluid-filled blisters that appear on or around the lips and sometimes inside the mouth. After a few days they dry and form yellowish crusts. Although the sore heals in six to ten days, the virus remains in the body in a latent form in the nerve trunks. A recurrence can be triggered by excess exposure to the sun, a fever or other bodily stresses. The incubation period is two to twelve days after exposure. And the child usually feels a burning, tingling or itching sensation at the spot where the sore will appear. Although highly contagious, the virus is only contagious when the sores are visible. It is not contagious during the latent period while the virus hides within the nerve trunks. There is no cure for the virus and treatment centers around relieving discomfort and preventing secondary infections. However, there are many home and over the counter remedies such as aloe vera and Campho-Phenique. Applying cold compresses to the affected area will also help loosen the crusts and relieve discomfort.

It is important, in order to prevent the spread of the virus, that children do not rub the eyes or put fingers on a cut after touching the mouth. And when they do touch their sores, they should be careful to wash their hands immediately thereafter.

Another sore occurring in the mouth is a canker sore. A canker sore is totally different from a cold sore or fever blister. The latter is caused by a virus. A canker sore is not caused by a virus. And canker sores are not contagious. A canker sore is a small, very painful, ulcer in the mouth. It is covered with a gray membrane and is surrounded by a red halo.

There is no effective treatment but they usually disappear in a week or two. To avoid discomfort, children that are affected should avoid the foods that aggravate the pain and rinse their mouths with salt water after each meal. They should also drink plenty of liquids to avoid dehydration.

Heat rash is also a common childhood skin condition. Heat rash is often referred to as prickly heat. It is characterized by small, red pimples which break out on the neck, chest and in skin folds. It is often itchy or has a burning feeling. A heat rash is caused by the obstruction of the pores that transport sweat from the body. It occurs in hot, humid weather, when the child has a fever or if the child is too warmly dressed or wearing tight fitting clothing. It can be prevented by keeping the child cool and dry. Treatment involves cooling the child’s skin which will encouraged the obstructed pores to open. This can be done by giving a cool bath, sponging the child with cool water or placing the child in an air-conditioned room. Heat rash is not serious and rarely is a doctor needed.

Psoriasis Symptoms

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease characterized by thickened patches of inflamed, red skin covered with thick, silvery scales. There are several types of psoriasis that may affect different areas of the body as well as produce varying symptoms among individuals. It is a non-contagious disease and affects both the skin and joints.  According to the National Institute of health, approximately 7.5 million Americans have psoriasis.

Although psoriasis may be almost unnoticeable in its early stages, patients often report an itching and/or burning sensation as the disease progresses. This disease has many different symptoms. The symptoms may be small flattened bumps, large thick plaques of raised skin, red patches, and pink mildly dry skin to big flakes of dry skin that flake off.

There are various forms of psoriasis and each of it has different symptoms associated with them. Below are some of them:

1. The most common form of psoriasis causes dry, raised, red skin lesions (plaques) covered with silvery scales. The plaques itch or may be painful and can occur anywhere on your body, including your genitals and the soft tissue inside your mouth. This form of psoriasis is also known as plaque psoriasis.

  1. Scalp psoriasis will affect the scalp making it appear as red, itchy area with silvery-white scales. You may even notice flakes of dead skin in your hair or on your shoulders, especially after scratching your scalp.
  2. Guttate psoriasis is another form of psoriasis which affects the young people, usually below 30 years of age. These numerous spots of psoriasis appear over large areas of the body, such as the trunk, limbs, and scalp. Generally, guttate psoriasis occurs after a streptococcal or viral infection.
  3. Psoriatic arthritis causes pitted, discolored nails and swollen or stiff joints which are denote arthritis. It can also lead to inflammatory eye conditions such as conjunctivitis. Symptoms range from mild to severe.
  4. Pustular psoriasis is a rare form of psoriasis in which widespread patches develop on the hands. Pustular psoriasis can occur in smaller areas or involve most of the body with innumerable tiny white pustules.
  5. Eythrodermic Psoriasis is characterized by the entire body bright red and scaly. It can cause the entire body to be covered with red peeling rash. This form of psoriasis is the least common. It causes redness over larger areas.
  6. Inverse psoriasis occurs in the armpit, under the breast, skin folds, around the groin, in the cleft between the buttocks and around the genitals. It is usually pink in color and doesn’t have the thick scale seen in other forms of psoriasis.

Well, above are some of the common symptoms associated with this disease. One should be aware of the symptoms so that the disease can be detected in the early stages and fast treatment can be carried out!

Yeast Infection From Inhalers and How to Cure it Fast

Can you get a yeast infection from inhalers? Yes! In fact if you use an inhaler you are more likely to get an oral yeast infection than the average person. Learn why, and of a natural cure that can get rid of your yeast infection in as little as 12 hours.

A yeast infection may occur in any part of the body including the skin. However, the most common areas are the sexual genitalia and the mouth. This article looks solely at the mouth; an oral yeast infection — sometimes called “thrush” — and, in particular, the problem of yeast infection from inhalers.

First, just what is a yeast infection? Well, it is caused by a natural fungus called Candida albicans which is present in most of us. Candida just loves warm, moist areas such as the vagina, penile areas, the mouth, gums, throat and even the lungs. In a healthy body, we suffer no ill effects, because there is sufficient good bacteria to keep the fungus in check; that is the body is in a “balanced” state.

However, when there is insufficient good bacteria the Candida “overgrows” which leads to the yeast infection.

Some of the things that can trigger and exacerbate an overgrow are; the prolonged use of antibiotics and / or steroids, a weakened immune system, stress, diabetes, the wearing of non-breathable tight underwear, unprotected sex, and more.

So to the mouth and yeast infection from inhalers. The mouth is a great place for the Candida to reside; it’s warm, moist, and there are many nooks and crannies for it to take hold.

Now inhalers for asthma, for example, contain steroids and people who have to use these continually are at a high risk of an oral yeast infection, since the steroids can reduce the levels of good bacteria in the mouth and lungs, and can thus allow the Candida to overgrow into a full-blown infection.

Some symptoms of oral yeast infection or thrush are; redness and cream / yellow colored raised spots on the tongue and mucous membranes.

What can you do to help prevent yeast infection from inhalers? After each use you MUST ALWAYS rinse your mouth out — as you normally do after brushing your teeth — with fresh water to ensure that you remove all traces of steroids from your mouth, gums, and cavities.

You need to do this to ensure that Candida / good bacteria in the mouth remains “in balance”. Even if you already have an infection then do this to help keep it under control.

Allergies and Asthma – Remy Na

Allergies and asthma can be closely related, but it is possible to have one of these conditions without having the other. Allergies can be classified as one of three levels, depending on the strength of the symptoms. Symptoms of allergies can be mild, severe, or moderate. The severity of the allergy will determine which symptoms you suffer. Mild allergies can cause symptoms including nasal and chest congestion, eyes that are watery, itchy, and burn, and a rash that can appear on your skin. A mild allergic reaction will stay in the affected area and will not spread at all. If you suffer from moderate allergies, you may see all the symptoms of a mild reaction plus you may have a hard time breathing and you may experience itchiness anywhere in your body. A severe allergy can be life threatening, and can cause a condition called anaphylactic shock. This is the result of anaphylaxis, and symptoms can include vomiting, severe swelling, dizziness, abdominal pain and cramps, diarrhea, and confusion. If a severe allergic reaction is not treated immediately by medical personnel it can lead to organ failure and suffocation because of throat swelling.

Asthma is a medical condition that can become life threatening if it becomes severe and emergency medical treatment is not sought. Asthma can affect any age group, both male and female, and is one of the major reasons for emergency room visits and missed work and school. When an asthma attack happens, muscles in your chest and lungs tighten up and this will cause narrowing of the the airways in your lungs. The airway linings start to swell, and more mucous is produced as a response to the inflammation. An asthma attack can cause difficulty in breathing, a shortness of breath, pain and pressure in your chest, a tightness in your chest, and a chronic cough that occurs at night most often. A severe asthma attack can lead to an inability of your lungs and body to get enough oxygen, and can lead to serious health risks if you do not get emergency medical attention.

It is common for allergies and asthma to be present at the same time. If you have asthma and also allergies, you can have allergic asthma. Any exposure to allergens can cause an asthma attack. There are ways to help minimize the symptoms and frequency of allergies and asthma. One way to reduce allergens in your home is by using an air purifying system that uses a HEPA filter, which will remove over ninety percent of the allergens from the air. This can reduce your risks of an allergic asthma attack. If you suffer from allergies, have allergy testing done so that you know exactly what poses a risk to you. Make sure you discuss your condition with your family doctor, and follow any medication regimen carefully so that asthma attacks are prevented as much as possible. There are many different medications that can be used to control and prevent both allergies and asthma attacks. Understanding your allergies and asthma can help you control them much better.

The Beck Depression Scale

Scientist has developed equipment to measure the presence, level of depression called Beck Depression Scale. This Beck Depression Scale (BDI) is currently being used by many psychiatrists world over to help diagnosed people from types of depression.

The Beck Scale is successful in diagnosing people experiencing symptoms of depression. There are many incidents of people suffering from depression all their life and still could not identify depression. They were putting up with miserable, pathetic condition due to depression but could not recognize it.

The beck depression scale is successful where other hardly could provide any assistance to cure depressive patients. Scale contains different settings that are important in disclosing results of depression test.

Scale assists psychiatrists to recognize depression, and its severity in the patient. This helps psychiatrists to have deep understanding of problems faced by the depressive persons. Beck Depression instrument can be employed for used against all ages both adults and adolescents.

Ever since beck scale has been invented, the inventory got through many improvements and further developments. The beck scale is also called in short BDI scale. This BDI scale contains 21 items to access the intensity of depression in various types of depression.

Such as clinical Depression or even for normal patients on self report scale. The BDI scale assesses emotional, physical, physiological signs of depression. Like for instance scale observes patients behavioral changes such as their mood, guilt, self dislike or self accusation, suicidal ideas, crying, irritability, insomnia, work difficulties, social isolation and such.

Other factors taken in account by BDI are appetite, weight loss, fatigue, sense of failure and worthlessness. It takes almost just 10 minutes for people complete BDI. After which doctor gets indication about level of depression patients is suffering and also its severity.

There are items in BDI inventory that corresponds to a specific category of depression symptoms. This along with attitude and final score on the BDI scale display a person’s state of mind. And hence confirming presence of depression in that person’s life.

Though beck scale provides correct and accurate results. People should know that it is easy for person conducting depression test to change the testing results and show that person is fine and is not suffering any depression. In other words, tests result are easily subjected to manipulation by the person testing it.

The scale also does not provide complete reliability. If any one goes through inventory at a different time. The inventory scale shows different results depending on changes in the patient’s mental state since last depression testing.

Specific Phobias – How Do Phobias Affect Your Life?

The fight or flight response is our body´s natural way of protecting itself from the dangers of this world. If a wild grizzly bear is chasing you, you run. Your body does it automatically. If your child is drowning, you jump in after them. You don´t think about it, your body just goes into action.

Your body determines whether it´s best to fight or react or run. For people who have this adrenaline surge triggered, it is normally in response to appropriate situations. For phobia sufferers, this response kicks into action inappropriately, triggering panic attacks. The anxiety episodes are so upsetting, that many people strive, regardless of the consequences, to avoid a repeat performance.

This is what keeps phobic´s from engaging in life; the fear. The extreme, unchecked and inappropriate response of their bodies is upsetting and humiliating and very few people want to knowingly expose themselves to an increased chance of a panic attack. Therefore, caution, no matter how silly or intrusive, is usually the most common path taken when confronting this problem.

Social phobia which is also referred to as social anxiety disorder limits a person´s social interactions and causes intense, uncomfortable sensations when a person is exposed to social situations. This problem can prevent you from speaking in front of others, attending cocktail parties or receptions or even eating in front of other people.

The fear for a sufferer is that they will be perceived as strange, stupid or completely crazy. These fears are often completely unfounded but still overwhelming and profound.

Social phobia can be generalized and extend to a wide array of social situations or it can be specific. A specific problem, that is fairly common, is paruresis. These sufferers find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to go to the bathroom in front of others or within earshot of anyone else.

Agoraphobia is another common and potentially very serious condition. Agoraphobia is technically the fear of open spaces but it really is the fear of having a panic attack in a place or situation where you do not have help or assistance readily available.  Agoraphobia is a condition that frequently develops in panic attack sufferers because they are worried about going places or doing things where they will have an anxiety attack.

Agoraphobia sufferers fear leaving home or the places they are familiar with. They don´t want to be alone in tunnels, on bridges or in any exposed venue where help will be hard or humiliating to attain. In its most extreme form, agoraphobia sufferers will refuse leaving their home, terrified of what will happen to them if they do.

The subjects that social phobia and agoraphobia suffers fear are common in a lot of people. Many people would prefer not speaking in front of a crowd; many people are afraid of bridges and tunnels and get nervous in these places. For most people these feelings are transitory and also easily conquered.

They push those feelings aside and go on with their lives. They stumble through the presentation, the speech in front of the crowd, the drive across the bridge. What separates these people from anxiety sufferers is the intense desire and need to avoid these situations at all costs.

Taken to the extreme, avoidance can lead to loss of your job, disruptions in your family life and leading an unfulfilled and scared life. This is not an appealing way to live and every effort should be taken to address your fears. Finding relaxation outlets for your stress will be one great step forward in addressing the needs of your body and mind and ending your battle with apprehension, angst and depression.

How To Stop Head Zaps Permanently!

First off, I want you to understand this. WHATEVER physical symptoms of anxiety you are experiencing, whether it be anxiety chest pain, head zaps, dizziness, headaches, numbness, depression, confusion, electric shock feelings, pins and needles, tingling sensations, or ANY other symptom for that matter – they are all completely and utterly HARMLESS. Yes, they may feel horrific, and I know this because I have been there. But do not give your head zaps or other symptoms any credit and KNOW that these symptoms will go away, because they will, I promise.

Now, I’m going to assume that since you are reading this article, you have probably experienced head zaps and felt pretty freaked out about it at first, which caused you to make a doctor’s appointment. In the unlikely event that he didn’t tell you what’s causing your head zaps, I will fill you in. You are having head zaps because you have an anxiety disorder. Fact – anxiety is the ONLY condition which can cause head zaps and it is, again, a totally harmless condition, which I will explain the cause of now and then tell you how you can permanently and naturally CURE it (not manage it with medication. CURE it).

Anxiety disorder is a behavioural condition – it is not a disease or illness. You are not having head zaps because of some sinister medical condition. You are JUST anxious. Anxious behaviour is a habit, which is controlled by the suboncious part of the brain called the ‘amygdala’. When appropriate, anxiety is an important function of the body as it prepares us to protect ourselves when REAL danger is present, for example, if we were to be chased by a wild animal.

Anxiety DISORDER however, is innapropriate anxiety because it causes the sufferer to experience feelings and symptoms of anxiety when there is no real danger present. The sufferer then becomes inward and worries about these symptoms which causes more anxiety. As anxiety levels rise, the subconscious mind rewires itself to adjust to this new behaviour.

What happens is the amygdala RESETS itself to this innapropriate level of anxiety and it becomes the norm. Your anxiety is completely normal. It is your body telling you that you are supposed to be scared. It is simply just innappropriate anxiety because, ofcourse, you are not supposed to be scared as there is no danger present. What I have just said may sound like fanciful theoritcal talk, but it is not. It is 100% medical fact. Anxiety IS a behavioural condition and it is the only reason you are experiencing head zaps.

Now, to cure anxiety disorder you MUST break the anxious habit by practising new non-anxious behaviour. Fact – This is the ONLY cure for anxiety and anxiety related conidtions, NOT because I am a genius and I say so, but because it is 100% scientific fact – to remove your anxiety you HAVE to eliminate the subconscious habit.

The most effective way to do this is to follow the principles set out in a method called the ‘Linden Method’, a natural anxiety cure which was developed by arguably the world’s leading anxiety expert, Charles Linden. I have seen this method work thousands of times and Charles Linden will no doubt tell you he has seen it work 20 times more than that. It is fast, effective, natural and 100% guaranteed. If you are not totally cured using this method your money will gladly be refunded in full!

This I promise you, follow this method and you will NEVER experience head zaps or any other unpleasant anxiety symptoms again.

Insomnia – Easy Ways To Cure Insomnia Naturally

In today’s fast paced society a lot of people suffer from insomnia, the inability to get enough adequate sleep. Fortunately, insomnia is not something you have to live with for the rest of your life. But curing insomnia can be a challenge which may require some life style changes.

There are many possible causes for insomnia. You should always try to figure out the cause, so you can fix the cause rather than the symptom, in this case insomnia. If your insomnia is caused by your life style, your best solution is to change your life style.

Things you should try avoid in order to cure insomnia are:

Don’t use sleeping pills or other medication to fall asleep. They are no long term solution and many of them have negative side effects. Note, never stop taking your medication without consulting your doctor first.

Don’t drink coffee, or anything else containing caffeine, or alcohol in the evening. The former will make it more difficult to fall asleep while the latter will prevent you from getting the quality sleep you need.

No heavy meals in the evening. If your body is busy digesting food, you will not get the deep sleep needed to feel refreshed.

Don’t let the clock decide when you go to bed. If you are not tired, do not go to bed. Read a book or listen to some peaceful music until you are feeling sleepy.

Don’t worry about what may happen tomorrow. Decide to worry about the future tomorrow. And you can’t change the past, so don’t be upset about what happened during the day.

Don’t sleep during the day. If you sleep during the day, you will have trouble falling asleep in the evening. If you feel tired during the day, go for a walk and get some fresh air.

Things you should do to cure your insomnia are:

Exercise, if possible on a daily basis. It can be as simple as a 30 minute brisk walk. Also, avoid heavy exercises late in the evening. Your body needs time to cool down afterwards.

Make sure that you have a good sleeping environment. Your bedroom should have a comfortable bed and be cool, dark and quit.

Create your own bedtime procedure. You need to cool down and start relaxing before going to bed, you may want to try a simple relaxation exercise. By doing the same procedure every evening you program your brain to start cooling down.

Listen to special audio CDs that will tell your brain to slow down. You can re-program your brain and teach it to prepare for sleep.

An ingrown toenail occurs when the nail curves down and grows into the skin of the toe. It usually happens on the big toe and can be the result of several factors, including improper nail clipping, tight shoes, a toe injury or Diabetes. A toe injury includes stubbing your toe, having something fall on your toe or engaging in sports that involve running and kicking. For many people, an ingrown toenail is hereditary or innate.

Having a nail digging into the skin causes irritation and can lead to infection. Symptoms include swelling, redness and pain in the toe. Your toe may even feel warmer than the rest of your body. You may notice puss and a distinct odor as well. If your toenail is not infected, you can take the following measures to treat and prevent ingrown toenails in the future. If your ingrown toenail is not better after several days, see a doctor.

Treating ingrown toenails that have not been infected

· Clean the infected area very often and frequently. Apply an antiseptic, such as peroxide, to the trouble area.
· To reduce swelling, soak your feet in a foot basin filled with lukewarm water and Epsom salt. Massage the ingrown toenail. Soak feet at least twice daily.
· Trim your nails properly. Never cut your nails too short. This causes the nail to curve down into your skin. Instead, cut your nail straight across.
· Avoid shoes that are too tight. This applies pressure to the nail. Shoes should fit comfortably.
· Keep your feet dry. If your shoes are always damp due to excess sweating or engaging in water activities, dry your feet regularly. Exposing your ingrown toenail to constant moisture weakens the nail making it more susceptible to bending and curving.

If your ingrown toenail has already led to infection, or if you suffer from a medical condition, such as Diabetes or poor foot circulation, you will have to see a doctor. Your doctor may suggest antibiotics, surgery or removal of the nail. If your doctor decides that surgery is the best option, there will be a minor operation to remove part of or the entire nail as necessary.

How to Know if it is Nail Fungus or Something Else

You cannot get your eyes off your fingernails and toenails when you notice something different with them. You browsed the Internet and from the information you gathered, it seems you have nail fungus.

You must remember that there are a lot of problems which may happen to your nails. To know if it is just poorly done manicure or really fungal infection, you have to ask yourself some questions and inspect your nails carefully.

Nail Fungus

It is not nail fungus at all if you don’t walk barefoot in the public pool or gym shower or you’re not exposed to warm and humid working environment frequently and you don’t share shoes, nail files and nail cutters with other people.

Onychomycosis or nail fungus first manifests itself as a yellowish or white spot on the nail. As the nail fungus develops, the infected nail will break, thicken, be crumbly, lack luster and be discolored or deformed. The surrounding tissue or skin may also be inflamed. Nail fungus infection may be very painful in the long run, and like athlete’s foot it may emit a very foul odor. Scaling of the sides of the toenails may occur.

The toenails are more prone to nail fungus since it is often inside the shoes, which present a warm and moist environment that perfect for fungal growth.

Distribution of the problem has a pattern. Nail fungus often affect only one hand at a time. However, in the case of feet, it is more often that both will have nail fungus at the same time.

If the symptoms mentioned are not present, most likely it is not nail fungus but another condition.

Signs and Symptoms of Other Nail Conditions

There are other symptoms that will also make you stare at your nails. These are, however, not symptoms of nail fungus:

Ridges and Lines – There is nothing to worry. Appearances of these are part of the normal aging process.

Yellowish or Whitish Nails – This is due to onycholysis or the occurrence of gap between the nail and the nail bed. The normal pinkish color will return after several months.

Green Nails – No, you have not turned into a monster but pseudomonas may have accumulated in the gap in between your nail and nail bed. The greenish shade disappears in around two months.

Black or Red Nails – There is bruising on the nail bed, which is most likely due to trauma. Like any other hematoma, it will repair itself after a few days.

Inflammation of the skin around the nail – This may be caused by yeast that infects the cuticle. There are topical creams that can cure these yeast infections.

To be certain about the symptoms and signs that you notice on your nails, it is best to be diagnosed by a medical doctor.

A proper diagnosis will result in a proper treatment plan. Pain, inflammation and infection can be addressed properly. The treatment regimen for nail fungus or any other nail infection must be followed religiously since these diseases tend to recur.

Medicines for these different conditions can be sourced from your local drugstores or online stores.
