Depression – Brief Definition

Depression can be defined as a mental state that is characterized by an attitude that is pessimistic and melancholic with a lack of mental and physical activity. When a person suffers from depression, there is a reduced amount of neurotransmitters located in the parts of the central nervous system of a person.

The depression also implies that the nervous system does not function properly due to this stimulation from neurotransmitters. With the deficiency serotonin and adrenalin, the nerve cells that send impulses to the other nerve cells, there is reduced activity in the brain that causes slowness in certain parts of the brain and this leads to depression.

The depression also relates to the deficiency of gamma amino butyric acid or GABA. When there is a reduced amount or lack of GABA in the brain, there is a slow response of some nerve impulses that result in anxiety and panic response. There are also other different types of depressive mechanisms that are involved in the process. They vary from person to person and they also influence the nature and the severity of depression.

The depression and its effects should be addressed at the earliest when the symptoms are experienced in a person. A depressed person does not have an interest in normal activities and tends to shun all kinds of social interaction. There is loss of sleep and appetite. The person desires to be left alone and isolated. There are negative emotions and an intense pessimism towards life and people.

There is a tendency to feel that the person is hopeless and does not have the desire to live. The depression definition can also induce a person to self injury and suicide. There are both natural and medical cures and remedies for depression and once a person falls prey to it, he/she should resort to them immediately.

Sciatic Nerve Symptoms: Number of Warning Signs You Should Watch Out

The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body, which extends from each side of lower spine through rear and back of the thigh and then down to foot. This vein connects the spinal cord with leg and foot muscles. When there is an irritation or compression of the nerve roots in the lower spine, it may result in sciatic pain. The most common cause of sciatic pain is an irritation of L5 or S1 nerve root in the lower spine by the herniated disc.

Gunshot wounds, fractures of pelvis and other trauma to buttocks or thigh most commonly injure the sciatic nerve. The systemic diseases like diabetes may damage it. Due to this, the pain radiates into the rear and extends down back of the thigh and calf. Occasionally, it may extend down to the foot. Tingling, numbness and prickling or burning sensation are the most common sciatic nerve symptoms.

In most cases, a simple irritation to the sciatic nerve is the main cause of sciatic pain, which may be healed with time. However, some sciatic nerve symptoms may indicate somewhat serious injury to sciatic nerve.

– If numbness or weakness is present, the sciatic nerve may be damaged and you need to seek medical attention. If the pain and symptoms are extremely severe due to compressed nerve, you may need to undergo surgery.

– If there is incontinence of bowel or bladder or progressive weakness or loss of sensation in legs, then it indicates a serious condition, which requires immediate medical attention.

Generally, sciatic nerve symptoms affect one side of the body. The pain may be sharp or dull and burning or it may be accompanied by the intermittent shocks of shooting pain that starts at the buttock extending down to back of the thigh and leg. Sciatic pain then extends below the knee and may be experienced in the feet. There may be numbness and tingling in the leg. Patient may feel it very difficult and painful sitting and trying to stand up. The pain may be intensified with coughing and sneezing.

One of the most common sciatic nerve symptoms is similar to the pain that occurs during a severe leg cramp, such as extreme pain in low back extending to one buttock and down the leg. Pain generally worsens on bending forward or exertion. There may be numbness and weakness in the leg as well as diminution of the reflexes. Pain may be so severe that the lower back gets locked in sideways position resulted from a strong contraction. True sciatic pain occurs due to compression of sciatic nerve roots because of herniated lumbar disc.

In case of longstanding history of sciatic pain, the pain may gradually get localized to the buttocks and back of the leg. In such situation, the patient may experience a vague aching pain, which does not extend to the lower leg or foot.

Usually, patient’s history and physical examination are the important part of diagnosis of sciatic pain. Various treatment options such as medications, physical therapy, exercises etc. focus on relieving pain and manage the symptoms.

Social Phobia – Are There Methods to Help Effectively Overcome Fear of Socializing With Others?

Being anxious is a normal feeling especially if this is your first time to make your public presentation like talking alone in a large crowd of audience. Now, it is another issue when an individual easily gets restless and nervous each time the idea of making a public appearance is brought up. If you are among those individuals who are frightened with facing social situations including meeting and socializing with people you hardly know. Or you belong to the population of people who are always thinking that others would always misjudge them. Or even feel that you would likely create some embarrassing scene when you appear in public; most probably you are said to be suffering from social phobia or social anxiety problem.

What then is social phobia? Also referred to as social anxiety disorder, this condition is not actually a disease. This is why there is no general cure that can resolve the condition. In line with this, social anxiety disorder is one of the biggest and widespread psychological problems in America as of now. Based on statistics, over 15 million Americans have been found to suffer from this problem annually. But the sad part of the story is that there is no quick fix solution that could get rid of this situation at once. Diagnosis and the right treatment method are basically dependent on the joined efforts of the family, the qualified psychological professional and the suffering individual. Usually it may consist of a combination of cognitive therapies and other useful practices to help an individual overcome the fear of facing others.

Psychological counseling along with medication is the conventional management suggested to deal with and lessen the anxious feeling that may progress with episodes of panic attack when left unmanaged. Normally, it would necessitate long-term treatment for those who are suffering from anxiety and continually fear for a lot of things particularly socializing with other individuals particularly strangers and the big crowd.

While medications are normally prescribed when you go to for psychological counseling and you have been found to be really having social phobia, the problems is that it will not successfully get to the root cause of the problem. It can immediately provide relief but what you are not aware of is the fact that it only conceals the condition for a while. It is still prowling on the back of your mind and may strike again at any moment. This is where a drug free alternative treatment becomes a good option to try. While it is true that consulting a doctor would help you get enough understanding about the situation you are experiencing, there are possibilities that the solutions he have in mind brought about his medical knowledge might not be the ones that can accurately help you overcome the social phobia you are suffering from.

In the course of relieving and getting rid of the social phobia in your system, the ultimate solution lies in your mind, in actuality. You have the great power not to exploit that fear and eventually discard them for real. You have to take initiative to train your mind on how to react healthily to a lot of things including social aspects of life. Indeed, the power of the mind can be the only solution to overcome the fear you feel about socializing with others.

How to Get Rid of Anxiety: Reverse Psychology

Hi. My name is David A. Bye from Moorhead, Minnesota, a town of about 30,000 located on the eastern bank of the Red River, the only river in the Northern Hemisphere that flows north instead of south.

Why the geography lessen, David? I clicked on this site to find out how to get rid of my anxiety! Well, to tell the truth, I wanted to set in your mind, not just a river that flows the wrong way and seems to defy nature, but also to tell you about a program that for me, flies in the face of logic.

What does that mean?

I’ve had a panic and anxiety problem for over twenty years and for those, “over twenty years” almost every book I’ve ever read and every therapist I’ve ever been counseled by have told me how to avoid panic attacks. I do believe that I am an unofficial Yoga Master when it comes to meditation, a dietician, and an exercise guru.

You see, I though that with enough meditation, enough of the right foods in the right quantities, properly performed exercise, and methodically applied prescribed medication that my anxiety wouldn’t stand a chance and that I would be free to live my life as if I had never heard the phrase: “Panic Attack!” But, probably like you, I found that I was still having these terrifying and inconvenient episodes. I felt destined to have this limited life, where every trip to the store had to be planned in every detail: knowing where all the stoplights and stop signs were and of course the bathrooms. Let’s not forget the bathrooms. And of course, my security blanket: A bottle of my hand dandy prescribed tranquilizer pills, just in case.

I do not know how I found out about the, “Panic Away” program. All I know is that I found it.

Barry MacDonogh, a one time suffer of panic attacks developed a program, that to me, flew in the face of logic and psychology. Here was a man telling me to not only invite panic into my life with open arms, but to give the panic permission to be as bad as it wanted to be. Strange as it sounds, as ingrained in avoided panic as my mind was, what he said…made sense.

So, first off, when you think of the title of this program, “Panic Away,” think of it this way. Remember the movie, “Sudden Impact,” with Clint Eastwood playing, “Dirty” Harry Callaghan, pointing his big, bad.44 Magnum at the bad guys head and saying, “Go ahead, make my day”? Well, think of him saying, “Go ahead, Panic Away.” MacDonogh teaches that trying to ignore panic thoughts and panic attacks is like trying to tell yourself, not to be happy or not to be hungry. The more energy we use to ignore what is already there, the fear of another panic attack, the stronger that thought gets. I realized he was right because all my energy was focusing in on not having what I already had…Panic.

So, I bought the program and I watched the videos as MacDonogh talked to me and showed me that he knew what I was going through. I have to tell you that when I listened to him I saw a man who was really at peace. Someone who was confident and competent. He was no Snake Oil Salesman. What he was saying really clicked with me.

I felt assured by his words that while panic was an unpleasant sensation, that no one had ever died from a panic attack or gone crazy. All these things I knew before, but he anticipated my thoughts and put me right as ease. It was a good place to start the program, just watching and listening to the information.

He also has a 200+ page book that goes along with the program that reiterates what goes on in the video’s plus a great deal of relevant information and practical applications and an easy to follow outline of what you need to be doing each and everyday. There is a section on his website to journal and to keep track of your anxiety level, plus, if you want to try using the online therapist for one week for one dollar, you can. After that, the price is $97.00/month. I would recommend this for people who are new to taking on their anxiety issues. For me, I passed on the offer, just because I have a lot of experience working programs and am familiar with the flow of them.

MacDonogh also addresses setbacks. Some days will be good and others bad as you start challenging your panic and anxiety. He puts a nice lighthearted face on your anxiety. It is a wonderful approach to things.

He also touches on meditation, medication, visual imagery, and diet. It is a very holistic approach to the subject. What I personally like the most is that he doesn’t downgrade the importance of medication. I am still on several anti-depressants and know the good they have done me. He doesn’t pass judgment in that area. He didn’t create the program to tell those on medication that they are on the wrong path. He created the program to help all who have a problem with anxiety.

I also like that the program isn’t that expensive, to me, anyway…around $67.00. I also liked that if the program didn’t work for me, I could return it in 60 days, no questions asked. I’ve bought other products through the company that distributes, “Panic Away” and I have never had a problem with returning anything. Period.

I have seldom felt so strong about a program such as this. It has changed and is continuing to change my life for the better each day. For me, this program is great. It may be for you as well. If you are looking to find a program that addresses your panic and anxiety issue, give, “Panic Away” a try. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Information About Sore Throat

Sore throats are an acute inflammation of the mucous membrane of the lower pharynx. Tonsils and the soft palate may also be inflamed. The main indication of a sore throat is pain when swallowing and sometimes a burning sensation and a tightness in the throat. Secretions may be discharged from the mucous membrane or the throat may be very dry.

A sore throat is an infection that can be either viral or bacterial. It is most commonly caused by a contagious viral infection (such as the flu, cold or mononucleosis), although more serious throat infections can be caused by a bacterial infection (such as strep, mycoplasma or hemophilus). Bacterial sore throats respond well to antibiotics while viral infections do not. For viral infections, there are many natural remedies that you can take to cure a sore throat. Some of these folk remedies work within an hour or two, others take effect overnight.

The compounds responsible for the antimicrobial activity were wine acids, notably succinic, malic, lactic, tartaric, citric, and acetic acids. “Overall, our findings seem to indicate that wine can act as an effective antimicrobial agent against the tested pathogenic oral streptococci and might be active in caries and upper respiratory tract pathologies prevention,” the study states.

The bacteria infection leads to strep, mycoplasma, or hemophilus. The strep infection can cause tonsillitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, and ear infections. The strep infection can also damage heart valves and kidneys and should be treated with antibiotics. Note that coughing is not associated with strep throat, unlike viral or dryness related soreness. If you have frequent sore throat from tonsillitis, this suggests that the infection is not fully eliminated from your body.

While the relief from pain and swelling is real, gargling with salt doesn’t necessarily cure the ailment. Also, the principle of too much of a good thing can apply. While the warm water and salt grains dancing in your throat may feel good, too much salt can harm your mucosa. Gargle in moderation, then go see a doctor if your symptoms persist.

The herb licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is a common ingredient in herbal teas for sore throat, such as the herbal tea products Throat Coat (Traditional Medicinals) and Throat Comfort (Yogi Teas).Although licorice has not been associated with adverse effects when used for ten days or less, excessive longer-term use may result in side effects such as high blood pressure, swelling, and headaches. There is some evidence that licorice may lower testosterone in men.
Make fenugreek tea and gargle with it. In 6 cups of water, add 2 tbsp fenugreek leaves. Gargle with it 3-4 times in a day.

Try salt water gargling. But when I get sour throat, I keep chewing 4-5 pepper corns every 30-45 minutes and the whole day the pungent flavour gets into the throat. The results are instant. But keep doing it.

Eat oranges, ice cream and drink hot beverages. Don’t talk all day. Take some medication. Not sure if you have Nyquil where you live, but that stuff is awesome. Lots and lots of rests and fluids.

How Serious Is Long Term Insomnia?

Long term insomnia is a serious sleep disorder that affects millions of people in the United States. Persistent insomnia, which is sometimes called chronic insomnia, is characterized by the inability to sleep that often persists for several nights. This type of sleep disorder can even last for up to months depending on the gravity of the problem.

Long term insomnia is often caused by a number of factors although most experts hold worrying as the culprit responsible. However not all experts believe that psychological factors are the root of persistent to this disorder. In some cases, it can even be a result of some type of physical problem.

Certain physiological factors have been found to cause persistent insomnia in some patients that participated in a study conducted by the Association of Sleep Disorders in the United States. An individual with physical disorders such as abnormal muscle activity or breathing problems often experience sleep disorders that can be as serious as persistent insomnia.

Long term insomnia can also be attributed to two well-known psychological factors namely depression and stress. Research has also shown that more women are at risk of experiencing it due to biological factors such as menopause. Other factors that can cause the disorder can also be caused by an unhealthy lifestyle with too much caffeine, nicotine or alcohol as well as late night snacks.

Dependence on prescription drugs such as anti-depressants can also lead to sleep disorders. Several environmental factors can also lead to persistent insomnia like excessive light or noise, working the night shift, and jet lag. Sleeping on an uncomfortable bed can also lead to it.

Easy Techniques to Ease Long Term Insomnia

Despite being a serious sleep disorder, people suffering from persistent insomnia need not worry, as there are natural remedies that can be employed to help ease the problem. The most logical solution would be to refrain from takings naps during the day. Too much sleep during the day will make it harder to sleep at night.

Yoga is a great exercise that can help a patient suffering persistent insomnia loosen up and focus. Yoga is a unique form of relaxation technique that can teach a person to meditate and visualize away their worries. Reducing stress will help decrease stress hormones.

Other than yoga, insomniacs can also engage in physically energizing workouts to raise adrenaline levels and increase the body’s core temperature. Exercise such as this is best done in the afternoon or even in the early evening as the hormone levels go down five to six hours after exercise can help promote deep sleep. Avoid exercising right before bedtime, as the body will be too stimulated to fall asleep.

Pass up a heavy meal at least four hours before hitting the sheets. Going to bed on a full stomach will make it harder to sleep, as the tummy feels bloated; however drinking a glass of warm milk before bedtime can help promote sleep as it contains tryptophan.

Aside from milk, other protein-rich foods like nuts, tuna, dates, and even potatoes can help promote sleep. These foods contain tryptophan, which is a chemical that sends a message to the brain that initiates the release of the hormone serotonin to help a person relax.

Alternative remedies such, as acupuncture may be a solution to persistent insomnia. This ancient Chinese remedy is known to be quite effective in treating a variety of sicknesses and is a dependable alternative to taking prescription drugs that at times can be addictive.

Vitamin and mineral supplements can also be taken to treat persistent insomnia. These may include calcium, zinc, and magnesium. Other types of supplements that can be taken to pacify the nervous system would be vitamins B3, B6, and C.

The overall ambience of the bedroom can cause a person to lose sleep. In some cases, loud wall colors or uncomfortable beddings, curtains or carpets with frenzied patterns can keep a person awake all night. It helps to have bedroom walls painted in soft pastel colors that are calming to look at.

Severe chronic insomnia will require professional assistance and a lot of patience on the part of the patient. It is also a good idea to start a sleep diary wherein the patient can write down their observations in order to identify any pattern that could have led to the sleeping disorder.

Top Five Benefits of a Hot Towel Shave

There’s a reason the best barbershops in town offer hot towel shave services for their male clients. Not only is it a relaxing experience that results in smooth skin, but it also has multiple health benefits. Below are the five advantages to utilizing this service once per week.

It Opens Up Your Pores

Barbers have special cabinets that keep towels heated to the desired temperature. When these items are placed on a man’s face prior to a trim, the heat begins to open the pores after only a couple of minutes. The hairs also start to soften, which is prime time to get out the razor and begin the shaving.

It Provides a Closer Shave

Once the hairs are soft, and the pores are open, the shaving can begin. It is best to always move the razor in the direction of the grain. It will become noticeable right away that one is able to obtain a closer shave with this method than simply slathering on a handful of cream and scraping away. Afterward, take a look in the mirror and notice how much healthier the skin looks. It will also feel extremely smooth to the touch.

It Exfoliates

In addition to clipping your whiskers, the hot towel shave also doubles as an exfoliating treatment. This is because the blades remove up to four layers of dead skin cells with each swipe. Making this process a weekly event is ideal as it allows the healthy skin cells to breathe. Skin will appear more radiant and attractive to everyone that walks by.

It Removes In-Grown Hairs

Another plus associated with this type of weekly grooming is the removal of ingrown hairs. While using your straight razor, also sometimes referred to as a cutthroat razor, you’ll notice a few blood spots appear. These are actually caused by the roots of ingrown hairs being pulled out. There’s no need to fret, though, as once the routine is complete, the blood spots and any bumps that made an appearance during the trim will quickly dissipate.

It Creates a Resistance to Razor Burn

You may experience mild irritation, known in the scientific community as Pseudofolliculitis barbae, the first time you try a hot towel shave. This won’t always be the case. The skin on a man’s face will begin to develop a resistance to the itching, burning, and bumps that often show up after the first few treatments.

If anyone wishes to try this at home but does not own a special heating cabinet, a vegetable steamer works well. Always remember to remove the hot towels with a pair of tongs once heated and then wave them around for a few seconds to make them a tolerable temperature that won’t cause a burn to the skin. Of course, they do sell steamers that were created for this purpose online. This is a great option for anyone who plans on continuing this procedure for years to come.

What’s a Tonsil Stone? A Few Sensible Words

A Tonsil stone is a whitish or yellowish pile, which develops in the tonsil crypts and at last falls out when swallowed or coughed up. The sensation of having a foreign body that’s stuck in the back of the throat can be discomforting. It is usually a reason for dog breath or terrible breath, dry metallic taste in the mouth, sore throat and tonsillitis. This hideous smell is caused by the sulfur manufacturing bacteria called anaerobic bacteria that are found at the back of the tongue.
Simply having a good dental hygiene cannot prevent a tonsil stone. You may momentarily get shot of any bad odors thru the utilization of toothpaste, mints or mouthwash, but these commercial products last only for two hours and will not completely eliminate the problem. The good news is you will remove a tonsil stone by yourself even without any medical intervention. Some folks poke or scrape it out employing a fingernail or toothbrush. It finally gets bigger until it eventually works its way out. This often thrives in adults and teenagers than in children. Symptoms are sore throat, itch or pain within the ear, frequent coughing to clear the throat, tonsillitis, and dog breath.
For years and years, the recommended and totally irrevocable surgical solution of a tonsillectomy was the advised technique for getting rid of tonsil stones.
A tonsillectomy is a serious surgery that is not cheap – and the older you get the more risk there is in getting one. Then there are the expenses you’ll suffer : hospice costs, surgery costs, plus your lost work time while you are recovering. There are more methods to solve the Problems caused by Tonsil Stones.

For people that have never suffered the humiliation caused by these little white bacteria infested rocks on your tonsils, here’s the data :

Tonsil Stones ( scientific name -Tonsilloliths ) is the formation of mouth debris and sulphuric bacteria found in your mouth. The waste and bacteria all join together and mold into a stinky ball that sticks into the crevices of your tonsils. They continue to grow, often causing a blockage or limitation in your throat and naturally a horrifying odor emits as your breath. An odor most describe as like rotten eggs. You can actually remove and prevent these stones in the environment of your house. There is no need to go endure a tonsillectomy. There are a number of actions you can take to help stop their return and numerous foods and oral cleanliness steps you can use to help forestall and remove them.

By taking these little daily cares you can avoid the recurrence of tonsil stones and avoid the horrors of a tonsillectomy.

4 Stages of a Proper Workout Session

4 important steps in a proper workout.

Step One: Start with a warm up.

Warm-up is not stretching, as what we have been taught in schools. Start with light cardio work to warm up those muscles. Take about 5 to 10 min of lighter workout at the bike or treadmill.

When you stretch when your muscles are cold, you may end up spraining it.

After the warm up cardio, you may stretch if you wish.

Step Two: Actual Workout

You may now start with more intensive cardio workout. You should not do intensive cardio for more than an hour as it will deplete the critical glycogen storage in your muscles. After cardio, you may perform a bit of weight training.

Step Three: Cool-down- (light cardio)

When you do intensive cardio or weight lifting, lactic acid may accumulate in your muscles. The only way to get rid of it from your muscles- is by movement & circulation- so, just like your warm-up, you do light cardio for 5 to 10 minutes.

Step Four- Stretching.

Experience sore muscles or stiffness after your workout? Or having to endure sore muscles for few days after workout? I strongly recommend that you incorporate stretching in your post workout. Do not underestimate the power of stretching. Incorporate stretching after your workout and you will feel great- you’ll walk easier and it will lessen your muscle sprain or injury. I speak from my personal experience- this really works. For a good cool down, spend about at least 10 minutes.

Start with some leg and hamstring stretches. Do some sun salutation, triangle post, spinal twist, followed by waist and arms stretch. Or else, you can skip Step Three and Four and replace it with yoga/ Pilates class. Warmed muscles work extremely well with yoga and Pilates- you will find yourself sweating like you have never been before.

Problem Penis Skin – Quick Fixes for Blemishes, Bumps and Bruises

While the stereotypical male is tough enough to deal with a few minor aches, pains and discomforts, even the most manly of men can lose their cool when it comes to penis pain. What might seem like a minor bruise, cut or scrape anywhere else on the body can take on epic proportions in a guy’s mind when it occurs on the penis skin. Fortunately, even though life can throw some pretty unpleasant curveballs when it comes to skin conditions down there, most of them are not serious, and a few quick penis care strategies can help ease the pain and speed healing. Some common issues that can affect the penile skin, along with some tips for penis care, are discussed here.

  1. Red penis skin – Red, raw-looking penis skin can occur for a number of reasons. The friction associated with masturbation or sex is one of the most common causes; reactions to latex or spermicides, personal care products, or skin infections may also cause a red appearance. Dealing with a red penis depends on the cause. Often, just giving it a few days’ rest can do the trick. Men who have sensitive skin may want to try changing their shampoo, bath soap and detergent to a hypoallergenic variety; some men with sensitivities have good luck using shampoos and body washes designed for a baby’s delicate skin.
  2. Cuts or tears in the foreskin – Fissures and tears in the foreskin are common and can be quite painful. They are often the result of dry skin, which can be caused by dehydration, reactions to soaps and other personal care items, or even Candida yeast infections. A quick way to deal with sore, cracked penis skin is to apply a penis-specific moisturizing cream that can rehydrate and soften the skin. While a lotion or cream should never be rubbed into open sores, men who have overly dry and distressed foreskin can benefit from a quality moisturizer.
  3. Bumps and blemishes – Men who develop small bumps and blemishes on the penis are often understandably alarmed about a possible STD, but in many cases, they are really nothing more than pimples or ingrown hairs. While it is advisable to check any and all unusual penis lesions with a doctor, the more innocent varieties generally go away in a few days without any assistance. It is not a good idea to use facial acne creams on the penis skin, because they can contain harsh, drying chemicals. However, a penis cream containing vitamin A, which has natural antibacterial properties, may be useful in reducing the number of acne-causing bacteria on the skin.
  4. Swelling – Swelling of the penis can be a sign of injury or infection, and while the cause may ultimately be nothing serious, it’s a good idea to consult a doctor if swelling occurs. Yeast infections and balanitis are common culprits and can be easily addressed; however, swelling may also indicate an STD or can result from an injury. To deal with the swelling and any associated pain, icing is ideal – men should just make sure that the ice does not come in direct contact with the skin. Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories may also help for immediate relief while men wait for an appointment.

Penis protection and prevention of minor skin problems

The best offense, as they say, is a good defense; and this applies to overall health, as well as to the penis skin. While it is not possible to protect against everything that could go wrong, men can take some simple steps to reduce their chances of experiencing minor injuries and infections.

It goes without saying that wearing a condom for every encounter is essential in preventing STDs, not to mention less serious problems like yeast infection or friction-related injuries. Staying hydrated is also important, because this allows the natural lubricating properties of the penis to function correctly.

In addition, men can help to keep their skin smooth and supple by applying a penis health formula (most experts recommend Man1 Man Oil) that is fortified with skin-friendly vitamins like A, B5, C, D and E; as well as all-natural moisturizers made from botanical oils such as cocoa butter or Shea butter. By nourishing the skin on a daily basis, men can protect its integrity at the cellular level, helping to reduce the chances that an injury or infection will occur and allowing it to heal more quickly if it does get past the body’s defenses.

What Causes Diabetes? Diabetes Type 2 !

There are numerous reasons someone gets Type two Diabetes, but mainly it happens because of unfortunate combination of several factors. Diabetes type 1 is cannot yet be controlled as there is something inherently wrong with a patient’s insulin production when they are diagnosed with diabetes type 1 . Children and young adults commonly under 20 years are diagnosed with this form of the condition. With diabetes type 2, your genetic disposition plays a large role in your chance of becoming diabetic, but it is certainly not the only cause of the condition.

Natural aging is another factor that you obviously have no control over. As people age, there is an increased chance of developing many kinds of diseases and health conditions, and Diabetes Type 2 is on the list . People who contract Diabetes Type 2 are usually diagnosed over the age of 35, but once you pass the age of 45, the chance of contracting it continues to increase every year . Despite these natural and uncontrollable causes of diabetes, there are things that people do every day that actually cause them to get diabetes .

Lifestyle is a huge factor in the equation. Those who are overweight are more likely to get Type two diabetes than a thin person, even if the thin person is genetically disposed to come down with it during their lives . This is a consequence of eating incorrectly and lacking enough exercise produces large amounts of fat deposits to build on cells . These cells need glucose to function and the insulin is what is needed to transport the glucose from the bloodstream to the cells, allowing them to work adequately. When fat deposits are extensive, the insulin is resisted and the glucose remains in the bloodstream . This is the reason for high blood sugar in diabetic people.

Insulin resistance leads to many other unfortunate conditions like high blood pressure, cholesterol and an increased risk for blood clotting. It is due to these facts that people who suffer from Type II Diabetes more than two times as likely as non-diabetic people to have a heart attack, stroke, or develop some form of life-threatening heart disease . If you are displaying signs of Type 2 Diabetes , such as feelings of extreme thirst and hunger, increased need to use the bathroom, dry and itchy skin, chronic tiredness or yeast infections, you may be developing diabetes . Contact your doctor as soon as possible to discuss your options .

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is a complex condition in which tumor formation in the pancreas or in the duodenum causes excessive production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, leading to peptic ulcers. Common symptoms include heart burn, burning and pain in the stomach, nausea, vomiting, loose motions, bleeding in the stools and weight loss.

The Ayurvedic treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome is aimed at treating the symptoms of peptic ulcers and also treating the pancreatic or duodenal tumors. Medicines like Shankh-Bhasma, Praval-Bhasma, Praval-Panchamrut-Bhasma, Sutshekhar-Ras, Bhunimbadi-Qadha, Kamdudha-Ras, Laghu-Sutshekhar-Ras and Swadishta-Virechan-Churna can be used to treat the excessive acid production and peptic ulcers. Herbal medicines which can be used for this purpose are: Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Behada (Terminalia bellerica), Sunthi (Zinziber officinalis), Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata), Bhrungraj (Eclipta alba), Yashtimadhuk (Glycerrhiza glabra), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Usheer (Vetiveria zizanioidis), Chandan (Santalum album), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus). Diarrhea can be treated using medicines like Laghu-Sutshekhar-Ras, Kutaj-Parpati, Kutaj (Holarrhina antidysentrica) and Musta (Cyperus rotundus). Bleeding from the peptic ulcers can be treated using medicines like Haridra (Curcuma longa), Yashtimadhuk, Vasa (Adhatoda vasaka), Naagkeshar (Messua ferrea) and Sphatik-Bhasma. Stress can be treated using medicines like Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi), Khurasani ova (Hyoscyamus niger) and Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina).

Tumors in the pancreas or duodenum can be treated using medicines like Kaishor-Guggulu, Triphala-Guggulu, Kanchnaar-Guggulu, Maha-Manjishtadi-Qadha, Saarivadi-Churna, Amalaki, Haritaki, Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Patol (Tricosanthe dioica), Patha (Cissampelos pareira), Chirayta (Swertia chirata), Mandukparni (Centella asiatica), Varun (Crataeva nurvala), Suvarna-Sutshekhar-Ras, Panchamrut-Parpati, Suvarna-Parpati, Trivang-Bhasma, Tamra-Bhasma and Heerak-Bhasma.

It is important to make an early diagnosis of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and to initiate treatment at the earliest, in order to prevent local complications and the spread of the tumor to other parts of the body. Ayurvedic medicines can be given in addition to modern medicine to improve the therapeutic response, prevent long term complications and improve the survival rate. People suffering from symptoms of hyperacidity should avoid prolonged self-treatment, since this may mask the symptoms and delay the diagnosis of this condition.

Uterine Fibroids and Metromenorrhagia

CAUSES AND SYMPTOMS OF METROMENORRHAGIA

Metromenorrhagia can be caused by many disorders: anatomic abnormalities of the uterus, hormonal imbalances, certain medical conditions, medications, and malignancy. Common anatomic causes are uterine fibroids and adenomyosis. Irregular menstrual cycles resulting from hormonal imbalances can be associated with metromenorrhagia. Medical conditions such as blood clotting disorders and liver or thyroid disease contribute to metromenorrhagia. Medications that prevent blood clotting, such as coumadin or heparin, can lead to increased menstrual flow. Uterine and other reproductive tract cancers can result in unusually heavy menstrual flow. Symptoms of metromenorrhagia are uterine bleeding that is excessive (more than 80 milliliters) and/or bleeding that lasts for more than seven days. Unlike metrorrhagia, bleeding occurs at regular intervals. The patient can become anemic and exhibit symptoms of either acute or chronic blood loss. Symptoms and signs which suggest the cause of metromenorrhagia may be present, such as large palpable fibroids, or evidence of hypothyroidism or liver disease.

TREATMENT AND THERAPY

Metromenorrhagia can be treated via conventional medical or surgical methods. The selection of treatment often depends on the cause and severity of the metromenorrhagia. If metromenorrhagia is the result of conditions amenable to medical treatment (such as a thyroid disorder), then control of these conditions may decrease the bleeding. If the patient has irregular cycles (for example, because of lack of ovulation), then hormones such as oral contraceptive pills or medroxyprogesterone may be used to regulate the cycles and decrease menstrual flow. A patient who is nearing the menopause can receive hormone injections that place her into an earlier artificial menopause, and hence eliminate menstrual bleeding altogether. If the patient encounters acute and profuse bleeding, then high-dose estrogens may be given.

If metromenorrhagia is resistant to medical management, then surgical treatment may be necessary. Examples of procedural treatments for metromenorrhagia are dilation and curettage (D & C), for acute, profuse bleeding; thermal ablation of the endometrial lining; hysteroscopic resection of endometrial polyps or fibroids; and placement of a progesterone-impregnated intrauterine device (IUD). Hysterectomy is the definitive surgery for metromenorrhagia, no matter what the cause, since menstrual bleeding cannot occur without the uterus. Patients with large fibroids or adenomyosis often are not responsive to medical management. These patients would be candidates for hysterectomy. In patients with large fibroids and metromenorrhagia who wish to retain childbearing potential, a myomectomy may be performed instead of hysterectomy. Finally, patients can become severely anemic from metromenorrhagia, and blood transfusion may be necessary. Mild anemia can be treated with iron supplementation.

These treatments have had limited success, and most sufferers of metromenorrhagia find the side effects of these methods as bad, or worse than, the condition itsself. Alternative and holistic medical researchers have had great success with natural remedies.
