The Moment of Truth

Chapter One

The Moment of Truth

It is a long story, but it began after Hughie’s Summer Day Camp, Chandler Newberger’s Sports Camp, was finished July 11th. Hughie had a big day, as the camp always plans a day trip to Six Flags Great America, an amusement park, and the campers leave at 8:45am and do not return until 4:30pm. That is a much longer day than Hughie is used to, but the trip was a great success. I picked Hughie up and took him immediately to Noah’s 7th birthday party at Wilmette Bowling Lanes, which didn’t finish until 7pm. So, Hughie’s week ended on a high note, and the following week was filled with lots of reading, relaxation, and no stress. It was great for everybody not to have to race here and there, dropping off and picking up on the hour! What started merely as a venture to both save some money, and to decompress from over-scheduling, in doing only one term of summer camp, turned out to be a Life Saver…

Hughie is an avid cyclist, and every morning before his sports camp he would ride at least a ½ hour on his own around the block. Suddenly, however, this week, when he had no more physical activity planned through camp, he was not interested in riding his bike. He retreated mostly to his room to read; this is not untypical behavior for him really, as he loves reading, and reads very well. One day, however, later in the week, (around July 16th) I found him reading on his beanbag chair, and when I came by later, he had fallen asleep. I thought it was a little strange, but nothing more at that time.

The next week, Monday, July 21st, I noticed that Hughie’s demeanor was becoming quiet, and reserved, which is totally out of character. He is normally a little obnoxious, goofy, charming, and always eager to share his recent revelations at the kitchen table while eating. I also noticed that Hughie’s eyelid on his left eye was drooping. I thought maybe he had been bitten by a spider like had happened to Lizzie during her nap. By the end of that week, I noticed that Hughie’s appetite had diminished. He was eating very little, and was sleepy. He didn’t fight going to bed at all. Saturday, Lizzie had the flu, so when Hughie had a temperature on Sunday, July 27th, I assumed that he had the same virus. He ate nothing at dinner, but only drank his milk, and his soup. I tried to get him to take one bite of some hummus on pita bread, and he gagged. I thought he was throwing up at the time.

His temperature of 102F continued on Monday. Tuesday, we decided to go to the Lincoln Park Zoo because it was a beautiful day, and we had nothing planned. On our way, we made a quick stop to order Liquor for Victoria’s Wedding Shower that was planned to be a Croquet/Badminton Garden Party at our house on Sunday, August 3rd. After parking the car at Diversey Harbor to go to the zoo, Hughie could hardly walk, and was having a great deal of trouble breathing. He didn’t really complain but I could see on his face that as we walked along the Lagoon, breathing was a lot of work for him. We stopped and took a break and I gave him some benedryl, thinking it might be allergies. But, as we continued, he didn’t change, and I knew then Hughie was seriously ill. It really scared me, and I realized that even though Hughie was not complaining per se, that it was serious. Sometimes kids don’t complain because they don’t want to be sick, and have to go to the doctor. Then, I knew that it was my responsibility to play Doctor, and take charge, which is exactly what I did.

We rushed to our Pediatrician, from Diversey Harbour, that July 29th at 3:00pm, arriving at Howard and Asbury, in Evanston, at the Traisman/Benuck practice by 3:00pm. I had already alerted Edna, the Receptionist, that I was very concerned, and that I was sure that Hughie was seriously ill. Upon arrival, I discovered that neither of the Partners who regularly see our children was available. Instead, we saw the new Pediatrician who had just joined the practice one year earlier. He and I have never gotten along since he joined the practice over a year ago, because I always am made to feel that what I know intuitively about my kids is not valuable in assessing the problem, and ultimately making a diagnosis. I always take my kids to see the doctor when they are sick, and usually I have some idea what is wrong with them. I make it a habit to give the doctor as much information as I can about the history of their illness. This doctor immediately asked, “So why are you here, Hughie? You look great to me!” I suggested that because he was having trouble breathing, that he had a temperature for three consecutive days of 102F, and that he wasn’t eating well, and was lethargic, that maybe he had an infection like Pneumonia. I then suggested that we get a Chest X-ray to confirm that there was no respiratory infection. He then listened to Hughie’s heart beat, and breathing, and said:” Hughie’s lower respiratory is excellent! It is not necessary to get a Chest X-ray.” He gave Hughie a breathing treatment for allergies, and a prescription for Zyrtec, a common allergy medication for children and adults, and told us to come back in a week, before we left for Colorado, if Hughie’s breathing wasn’t improved. I left feeling very dejected and disappointed in his lack of attentiveness. I felt as if he totally disregarded my concerns.

The next morning, I followed my instincts. I called and talked to the Receptionist, Edna, and told her that I was very dissatisfied with the diagnosis of Hughie, and that I wanted to see another Doctor, either Dr. Benuck, our regular Physician, or his Partner, Dr. Traisman. I was told that Dr. “X” was the only Doctor available in the office Wednesday, but Dr. Traisman would be available to see me at 2:15pm Thursday, July 31st. I accepted that invitation, and took Hughie then. I had Alice with me, too. Dr. Traisman immediately noticed Hughie’s eyelid with concern, and then examined him. I gave him all the same information that I had given Dr. “X”. Immediately, he showed signs of concern. He stated ” Hughie has no air passing in hisleft lung”…He attributed this to a mass growing in Hughie’s chest above the left lung, which if it compressed the nerves which control your eye movement, could cause the drooping effect. He also noticed that the right eye pupil was dilated…Within 10 minutes, he was calling Children’s Memorial Hospital (one of the best Pediatric hospitals in the nation) to schedule a Chest X-rays of many locations, including the neck area where he supposed the mass was located, and then down into the lung area, as well as CT Scans.

I was suddenly overcome with fear, anxiety, and struggling to stay strong. I called my sister from the car, and started crying. I dropped Alice at home with Anna, and raced downtown to the hospital to start the race to save Hughie’s life! Annie met us at the hospital, and I called Milind on his cell phone. He was at the airport in some city and his flight was about to take off. I told him where I was, and what was going on. His flight landed a couple hours later, and he took a cab directly to the hospital. Before we knew it, we were talking to a Pediatric Oncologist in the Emergency room, where they Hughie on a respirator because his breathing was so inhibited. I told the nice lady that she was in the wrong room, and suggested that she leave, because our son did not have cancer. She smiled and said, “unfortunately, we think that he may, and right at this moment we have the radiologists reviewing all of his tests to get a better confirmation as to what kind of tumor he has…Later, after much denial on my part, Milind’s part, and my parents part, we heard the bad news. Yes, it is a malignant growth that is quite large and it is compressing on his lymph nodes above his left lung, and the nerve endings. His left lung was collapsed, and the T Cell fluid from the tumor had taken up the area where the lung normally is located. The tumor had moved both his trachea and his heart over to the right side, so they were now obstructing his breathing out of his right lung. The amazing thing was that until Tuesday, the 29th, Hughie never complained. Now, I understood that he had gagged on the food because his trachea had made eating almost impossible, and his oxygenation level was impeded so much that it made him tired, and nauseous.

The truth left a numbing effect on all of us that was filled with pain, concern, and an uncertain future for all of us. My parents are strong, and Dad kept saying, “Don’t worry sweetie, everything is going to be all right.” I knew he was now seeing how strong Hughie was to endure the pains that he had quietly kept to himself. He sat in the ER bed, surrounded by all the family he has in Chicago, and while breathing into a respirator, he gleefully watched Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets. He had tuned us all out for what was really important! Thank God for the resiliency of children; as we were crumbling, Hughie was somehow enjoying himself…But I was panicing. What about Victoria’s party! I had to call her, and let her know we would have to cancel. I called her and cried my eyes out as I told her what we were going through. She willingly took over the task of calling all of the guests and explaining what had happened in the most appropriate manner. I was relieved and disappointed, as she is a very dear friend, and we were looking forward to sharing her joy of getting married to wonderful Matthew. But, I had to focus on Hughie, and what is important: life.

Needless to say, once they had a room on the Oncology/Hematology floor, Hughie was immediately admitted to the hospital that evening (July 31st). By the grace of God, the Chief of Oncology, Dr. Elaine Morgan was “On Call” the night he was admitted, so he became her patient. She is a brilliant doctor, and I am thankful that her experience, aptitude, and sincere interest and caring attitude allowed me to relax and feel that we were in the best hands possible. Hughie was in the hospital for 6 nights, watched closely by doctors, nurses, day and night. They started administering Chemotherapy immediately on August 1st, and in our first meeting with Dr. Morgan, she warned us that each child responds to treatment differently, and that she could not promise us anything. His initial prgnosis, based solely on general probabilities and statistics, suggested that Hughie had a 70-80% chance of cure. When Dr. Morgan said this, my heart dropped into my lap. I immediately knew that what she was really saying was that there was a 30% chance that he would not be cured, and would die She reminded us that Hughie was gravely ill, and that we were lucky that we brought him into the hospital when we did. She did suggest that if Hughie responded to the treatment that they were starting on August 1st, then he should be in Full Remission by August 29th. I was amazed that she was so sure of the treatment plan; but, at the same time, Dr. Morgan wanted to make us understand that she could not promise that Hughie would respond to the Plan. Not all kids do. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoblastic T Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Stage 4 means that it was very advanced, but was essentially limited to the lymph node where the tumor was located. There was some residual T Cell fluid that had dripped from the cavity where the lung usually is into the blood stream, but this was limited, and therefore not Leukemia.hat was important because the treatment of Leukemia is more intense, and can take longer to recover from.

Pediatric cancers differ from adult cancer today because although they grow so rapidly, that helps in the recovery process; they also recede more quickly and effectively because of the rapid cell growth in young children. Now, for some good news: Hughie has been in Remission fully since August 29th. Dr. Morgan suggested that her goal was to have Hughie in remission by that time, with full lung function returned, no tumor, and no t cells in his body; that wish came true!! And I thanked both Dr. Morgan, and her Assistant, Dr. Schneiderman, and with tears in my eyes said, “Thank you for saving my son’s life!” Now, I finally saw the sun creeping out from behind the clouds. (Chapter 2: The treatment Plan, will address the specifics of what went on between August 1st, and August 29th).

Chadon Beni – Trini Herb Extraordinaire

Chadon beni or shado beni is a herb with a strong pungent scent and flavor that is used extensively in Caribbean cooking, more so Trini cooking. The scientific name for the herb is ‘Eryngium foetidum’ but in Trinidad and Tobago the popular “market” names for chadon beni are culantro or bhandhania.

Culantro is distinct from cilantro or coriander (another herb) which carries the scientific name ‘coriandrum sativum‘ and should not be confused. The confusion comes from the similarity in the two herbs’ scents. The difference between Chadon beni (or culantro) and cilantro is that chadon beni (or culantro) has a stronger and more pungent scent. It should also be noted that chadon beni belongs to the botanical family Apiaceae where parsley, dill, fennel, and celery, also belong to this botanical family. An aromatic family at that I would also add!

The plant goes by a number of other names such false coriander, black benny, fitweed, duck-tongue herb, saw leaf herb, sawtooth coriander, spiny coriander, and long coriander. In Hindi it is referred to as ‘Bhandhanya’. Different countries also have its own name for this herb. Some examples are:

  • Alcapate (El Salvador)
  • Cilantro extranjero, cilantro habanero, parejil de tabasco (Mexico)
  • Ngo gai (Vietnam)
  • Pak chi farang or pak chee (Thailand)
  • Racao or recao (Puerto Rico and Spain)
  • Sea holly (Britain)
  • Jia yuan qian (China)
  • Fitweed or spiritweed (Jamaica)
  • Langer koriander (Germany)
  • Stinkdistel (Netherland)
  • Culantro, Shado beni or Chadon beni (Trinidad and Tobago)

In Trinidad and Tobago, almost all our recipes call for chadon beni. The herb is widely used to flavor many dishes and is the base herb used when seasoning meat. It is used in marinades, sauces, bean dishes, soups, chutneys, snacks, and with vegetables. One popular chutney we love to make on the island is “Chadon Beni Chutney” which is usually served with a favourite trini snack called pholourie (pronounced po-lor-rie). If you cannot find culantro at your market, you can always substitute it with cilantro, but you will have to increase the amount of cilantro used, or search for it by its many names as listed above.

The leaves of the chandon beni are spear like, serrated, and stiff spined and the dark, green, shiny leaves are generally 3-6 inches long. Each plant has a stalk, usually 16 inch tall, with smaller prickly leaves and a cone shaped greenish flower. When harvesting the herb’ s leaves much care has to be taken because the prickly leaves of the flower can make your skin itch. But that can easily be combated by wearing gloves or gently moving aside the flower stalk while picking the the leaves.

The leaves of the chadon beni are also rich in iron, carotene, riboflavin, and calcium, and are an excellent source of vitamin A, B and C. This herb also has medicinal properties. The leaves of the plant are a good remedy for high blood pressure, and epilepsy. In some Caribbean countries it is called fitweed because of its anti-convulsant properties. It is a stimulant and has anti-inflamatory and analgestic properties. As a matter of fact, the whole plant could be used to cure headache, diarrhea, flu, fever, vomiting, colds, malaria, constipation, and pneumonia.

Chadon beni grows better in hot humid climates. It can be grown from the seed, but it is slow to germinate. This plant will have to get full sun to part shade, and placed in fertile, moist, and well-drained soil.

This is one of my favorite herbs in cooking and with such flavorful and health qualities, I can’t do without this simple but extraordinary herb.

Pneumonia and Its Effects

Pneumonia is a problem that affects the lungs and can be deadly if not treated properly or detected early. Pneumonia involves the inflammation of the lungs and is caused when the alveolar are filled with fluid. The alveolar are sacs filled with air and their primary responsibility is absorbing oxygen. Pneumonia can be caused from an infection with viruses, fungi, bacteria and parasites. It can also be caused by physical injury to the lungs or chemical injury to the lungs such as inhaling poisons. Pneumonia causes excessive coughing, wheezing, a fever, chest pain and increased difficulty with breathing.

Pneumonia is diagnosed after a series of x-rays, MRIs and tests done on the mucus or phlegm from the throat. It can also be detected with a blood count test. If there is a high number of white blood cells then that means there is an infection present in the body. Pneumonia caused by bacteria is easily treatable with antibiotics. Pneumonia, as mentioned earlier, can be deadly. It is especially deadly in the elderly and anyone that is chronically or terminally ill. Other symptoms of pneumonia are coughing up blood, vomiting, nausea, joint and muscle pain, getting the chills and having blueness of the skin.

Pneumonia can be treated without hospitalization but severe cases sometimes call for hospitalization. Home care that involves rest, antibiotics and lots of fluids can help to rid the body of pneumonia. If patients do not heal within a specified amount of time by the doctor then they will have to be admitted into a hospital.

There are two classifications of pneumonia. They are community-acquired pneumonia and hospital-acquired pneumonia. People who acquire pneumonia from friends or family members fall into the first group and people who acquire pneumonia while spending time in the hospital fall into the second group. The first type of pneumonia is the most common form amongst patients today and is the sixth most common form of death in people in the United States.

Pneumonia can cause other complications within the human body. Some complications are respiratory failure, circulatory failure and abscesses. When pneumonia is in a chronic stage some patients need breathing assistance to stay alive. The breathing assistance comes in the form of a ventilator or even a breathing tube. Respiratory failure is caused by the lungs filling with fluid, becoming stiff, and cannot operate on their own. Sepsis can also set it while a patient is suffering from pneumonia. Sepsis can cause liver failure, heart failure, kidney failure and other problems that can lead to death.

Pneumonia can be cleared up within two to four weeks of the onset of treatment. Pneumonia can cause poisoning of the blood, which will kill over 20 percent of patients whereas one of every 20 sufferers of normal pneumonia will die in the United States from their illness. The quickness of recovery for patients depends on how sick they were upon diagnosis. If pneumonia was caught early it can be cured within a two week span but could take up to four weeks if not found in its early stages.

Qigong For Energetic Protection

Qigong is, according to Merriam-Webster online, “an ancient Chinese healing art involving meditation, controlled breathing, and movement exercises.” Later in this post I am going to give you a Qigong standing meditation that will allow you to boost your energetic protection from unwanted external influences (whether they be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual pathogenic factors).

Qi is a term that has no equivalent term in English. The Chinese character for Qi looks like a grain of rice in a pot that is boiling while steam is lifting the pot’s lid. This gives us some idea as to the qualities of Qi. Qi provides sustenance, like rice. It is also active and upward-moving like steam. It is also hard to grasp like steam. So, although Qi is often thought of as “energy” this is a poor translation, for Qi is mote truly a highly rarefied form of matter. The word Gong (as in Gong Fu) means “accomplishment,” “skill” or “work.” So Qigong is simply “working with the Qi.”

If you are feeling under attack from energy outside of yourself, Qigong practice should help. It could be that you work in an environment where you are at increased risk of catching an airborne infections such a s the common cold or flu. Perhaps you have a boss or co-worker that invades your sense of space and personal boundaries. Perhaps you work with the public and are subjected to the whims and verbal (or other) attacks from your customers. In all of these situations, the unwanted energy of the person “attacking” can get to you because you have not erected an energetic barrier. The Qigong exercise outlined below will, with daily practice, construct a barrier of Qi around you that will enable you to keep from taking on this unwanted energy from others.

So, without further ado, I present to you the Ren Wu Zang Meditation, below:

1. Stand with your feet slightly more than shoulder-width apart, feet facing forward and parallel to each other.

2. Bend your knees slightly so that you can achieve a firm yet comfortable stance. You should still be able to look down as see your feet past your knees if you are doing this correctly.

3. Tilt the pelvis forward to lengthen and flatten the spine.

4. Allow the arms to hang loosely at your sides, palms facing inward. There should be a small space (chicken egg-sized) in your armpits.

5. Relax the shoulders and let them sink downward.

6. Make the chest concave in shape and relaxed (opposite of “military stance” with the chest pushed out).

7. Imagine that you head is suspended from on high by a thread. Tilt the chin toward the chest to further lengthen the spine.

8. Close the mouth and lightly place the tip of the tongue at the upper palate where it meets the teeth.

9. Breathe through the nose. Use abdominal breathing, allowing the lower abdomen to expand with inhalation and contract with exhalation. Breath deeply at a rate that feels comfortable (the slower, the better).

10. Close your eyes or keep them only slightly open with a gaze not fixed on anything specific.

11. Visualize a golden egg surrounding you.

12. Imagine a red mist coming from your Heart and spraying out in front of you. This red mist transforms into a Phoenix. Visualize this Phoenix as a lively, active, playful animal that is connected to your Heart. Allow this animal to remain in front of you.

13. Next, imagine that a dark blue or black mist is projecting from your Kidney and forming the shape of a large Tortoise towering over you and covering your back. Visualize this Tortoise as a lively, active, playful animal that is connected to your Kidney. Allow this animal to remain in behind of you.

14. Next, visualize a white mist emanating from your Lungs and moving out to your right side which becomes a White Tiger. Visualize this White Tiger as a lively, active, playful animal that is connected to your Lungs. Allow this animal to remain to your right.

15. Next, imagine a blue-green mist emanating from your Liver and forming a Dragon on your left side. Visualize this Dragon as a lively, active, playful animal that is connected to your Liver. Allow this animal to remain to your left.

16. Hold the visualization of these 4 animals around you for a few seconds.

17. Allow the animals to move now, shifting position in a counter-clockwise direction.

18. This motion gets faster and faster, until all that you see is a blur of colors whirling around you.

19. Raise your arms with an inhalation and “gather up” all this whirling color. Allow the energy of all 5 colors to enter the top of your head. Let the animals and colors go back to their respective organs (Gold = Spleen, Red = Heart, Black = Kidneys, White = Lungs, Blue-Green = Liver) inside you.

20. Take a few deep breaths, slowly open your eyes and allow yourself to return to the waking world.

That all there is to it! Given some practice it should not take longer than 2-5 minutes total to achieve this meditation. Having practiced it so much, I can accomplish it nearly instantaneously. This is one of the tools I use to keep myself well in my very busy clinical practice. I don’t want to take on the energy or illness of my patients. I feel very strongly that this Qigong exercise helps me to stay well and I hope it helps you too!

Alcohol and Smoking Causes Heart Attack

Through associated with lung cancers and breathing problems, the most important threat factor of alcohol consumption and smoking is the increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, mainly heart attacks and strokes. For many people, quitting smoking and keeping away from alcohol is the best thing they can do to improve their heart and artery health.

Cigarettes have injurious multiple poisons, especially addictive nicotine, hydrogen cyanides, tars, carbon monoxide along with thousands of varying chemical toxins and 43 deadly carcinogens that together increase the risk of peripheral vascular and coronary heart diseases. When compared to non-smokers, smokers have more than twice the risk of heart attack. In both men and women, smoking alone increases the risk of fatal and non-fatal heart attacks. It increases blood pressure and consequent heart problems as it decreases the amount of oxygen rich blood to heart that lead to coronary heart diseases. Smoking causes damage to the tissues and cells of our body and also decreases the production of high-density cholesterol known as good cholesterol that is needed for the body for normal heart functioning. Furthermore, cigarette smoking acts with other risk factors that significantly increase the risk for coronary heart disease.

Smoking can also lead to risks of blood clotting as well as building up of cholesterol fats in the arteries- thereby increasing blood pressure, damage of arteries and heart disorders. The risk of heart disease increases with prolonged use. Patients who smoke after bypass surgery have increased risk of recurrent strokes. Frequent exposure to cigarette smoke is also bad for heart and artery health. In addition to heart disease, tobacco use also increases the risk of stroke, bronchitis, emphysema, osteoporosis and cancers of the lung, kidney, bladder, pancreas, lip, cervix, mouth, larynx, tongue, esophagus and throat. When the person stops smoking, the risk of heart attack and other diseases decrease significantly. Quitting smoking all of a sudden is not an easy task, though numerous aids and medications are available.

Alcohol consumption is one of the main reasons behind immature death caused by cardiovascular diseases. Consumed in moderate amounts, alcohol can prevent heart attacks. However, heavy drinking leads to various malfunctioning of our body such as increase of LDL cholesterol and decrease of HDL cholesterol, decreases coronary blood flow, decreases estrogen hormone level, induces blood clotting and increases aggregation of platelets. Excessive amount of alcohol also leads to increased blood pressure and consequently increases the risk of a heart attack. Alcoholic cardiomyopathy is a cardiovascular disease caused by the toxic effects of alcohol on human heart wherein heart becomes enlarged and weakened. Heavy drinking gives rise to congestive heart failure, increased triglyceride level and stroke.

Alcoholism is characterized by an unsatisfying urge to go on with drinking. Though alcoholic people are aware of the ill effects of alcohol, they are often unable to quit the bad habit completely. Quitting of alcohol requires moral and mental support along with medical supervision and medications. There are also various health supplements available today that can help in removing the toxic effects caused by smoking and alcohol consumption in the body. Such heart support supplements consist of ingredients that not only protect heart from future disorders, but also nourish heart and artery health.

Detection of the Heart Attack After Recognizing Its Symptoms

If you get help during the first hour from the heart attack known as the golden hour you have great chances of recovery, people are often embarressed to go to the emergency room and see that everything is all right with them. Digestive disturbances and less serious conditions may suggest heart attack symptoms. Women may present different and atypical pain for example between the shoulder blades heart attacks vary from person to and situation to situation, a great mistake would be to delay presenting to the doctor and seeking treatment.

It is very important to receive the treatment as soon as possible because this really is a question of life and death. The precursor of the heart attack is the pain called angina.

Angina Pectoris

This pain known as angina pectoris is distinct, is described as a suffocating, strangulating pain more intense than pleurisy, indigestion, appears after physical effort, during stress, in emotional situations, the patient becomes suddenly anxious and afraid of death. When the heart beats faster its oxygen and nutritional needs are higher and the heart muscle suffers of those deficiency so then appears this pain called angina. This pain radiates in the arm, the left shoulder, neck, jaw and throat and occasionally on the right side.

Angina attacks lasts 15 minutes, if it takes long you should have a check up in the hospital, it may be a heart attack, if the angina doesn’t stop at administrating nitroglycerin or other nitrate and after rest and calm. Most victims of the heart attack are men, those suffering of angina pectoris have a sudden death and usually by heart attack.

Angina is considered by some doctors a gift made by God to the humans , because mortality is very high in heart diseases and people don’t know anything about their state of health and the health of their heart, so if you suffer from heart pain, particularly angina is a blessing. This way you may start a treatment and know when to stop, if you are receptive to your heart pain.

This way you may prevent a sudden death which is quite common in the heart diseases, because angina is an exclamation sign there is something wrong and you may seek a proper medical treatment and identify you risk factors which may cause you the heart attack.

Often heart attack is slowly with mild pain and the person in cause doesn’t understand what’s happening, on the other hand the heart attack might be intense and movie-like. If you announce the ambulance you’ll receive the best care against heart attack and in the shortest time. You should’t be driving by yourself unless you have no other option.

Cardiac enzymes may be determined later in the intensive care unit and urgent care setting so they confirm or infirm the suspicions of heart attack. So if you address as quickly as possible to a medical emergency or service you have greater chances of receiving the corresponding treatment.

Perpetual War Anyone?

It’s often taken as a given that people want peace.

Yet when we look around and see armed conflicts in so many places it should make us wonder about that proposition.

Governments are fond of speaking of war as a last resort. However many of the policy choices that they make put them on a sure path toward that very result.

And what about the people that live under those Governments? I’ve seen reports of war protesters. Where people are marching in the streets and making their opposition to conflict known. How often have war protesters been listened to by their respective Governments?

Conversely, have you ever seen a march demanding that one country attack another? A march led by citizens demanding war? I guess there probably have been somewhere at some time in history. But in our modern times the demand for war usually takes place on editorial pages of newspapers and magazines. The Power Elite use the media in all its formats to manufacture consent of the public for the country to engage in war. The “enemy” is demonized thoroughly, and the impression is left that something has to be done; otherwise our leaders must be weak or soft.

So, the voices of those against war are drowned out or marginalized by those who agitate for conflict. But is it really a majority that wants conflict?

Why is it that opinion polls tend to show large majorities in favor of a conflict at its beginning, and then eventually over time that support steadily erodes? And the conflict continues, even when polls show that an overwhelming majority no longer support the actions being taken.

Perhaps people like the idea of peace, more than peace itself? Perhaps people prefer low gasoline prices and low priced goods more than the idea of peace. In our modern conflicts the vast majority of us never have to take up arms. That odious work is left to others. We don’t have to see or hear about what’s happening if we choose not to. And even when we do take an interest in the proceedings, our media provides for us the most sanitized version of events so that the true impact of the carnage taking place is lost on most of us.

Lip service dripping in hypocrisy is paid to the idea of peace by the war makers. But when has war ever produced peace? War produces death, destruction, misery, disease, dislocations, famine and more. But I don’t think peace will make any honest list of wars’ intrinsic value. Of course, I suppose it comes down to how you define peace.

Maybe most ordinary people do want peace. But the interests of the Power Elite often lie elsewhere. And with the control of the media and other centers of power, if the Power Elite determine that their interests will be furthered by war, then it is war we shall have, irrespective of the will of the people.

Until there is a change of the order of things.

Heart Attack – Causes, Signs, Symptoms and Treatment

Any of a number of conditions that can affect the heart. Some examples include coronary heart disease, heart attack, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary heart disease and high blood pressure. Heart disease is a big problem in today’s society because of lifestyle issues such as poor diet, lack of exercise and smoking.

Heart attack (myocardial infarction or coronary thrombosis) is when part of the heart muscle dies because it has been starved of oxygen. . It can occur as a result of one or two effects of atherosclerosis:

(1) If the artery becomes completely blocked and ischemia becomes so extensive that oxygen-bearing tissues around the heart die.

(2) If the plaque itself develops fissures or tears. Blood platelets adhere to the site to seal off the plaque, and a blood clot (thrombus) forms. A heart attack can then occur if the formed blood clot completely blocks the passage of oxygen-rich blood to the heart.

Usually, this happens when a blood clot forms in one of the coronary arteries (blood vessels to the heart muscle), which blocks the blood supply. Occasionally, a blockage is caused by a spasm (sudden narrowing) of a coronary artery.

Cause of Heart attack:

A heart attack happens when a blood vessel in or near the heart becomes blocked. Not enough blood can get to that part of the heart muscle. That area of the heart muscle stops working, so the heart is weaker. During a heart attack, you may have chest pain along with nausea, indigestion, extreme weakness, and sweating

A heart attack occurs when there is a severe blockage in an artery that carries oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. The blockage is usually caused by the buildup of plaque (deposits of fat-like substances, or atherosclerosis) along the walls of the arteries. The sudden lack of blood flow to the heart muscle deprives the heart of needed oxygen and nutrients. If the blockage is not opened quickly, the heart muscle is likely to suffer serious, permanent damage as areas of tissue die.

Warning Signs for Heart Attack

• Chest discomfort: uncomfortable pressure, squeezing or fullness.
• Discomfort in other areas of the upper body: one or both arms or in the back, neck, jaw, or stomach.
• Shortness of breath, either with chest discomfort or alone.
• Other signs, including nausea, lightheadedness, or breaking out in a cold sweat.
Common Symptoms.
Other common symptoms of a heart attack include:
• Nausea, vomiting, and cold sweats
• A feeling of indigestion or heartburn
• Fainting
• A great fear of impending death, a phenomena known as angor animi
Medical Treatment
Medical treatment may be started immediately, before a definite diagnosis of a heart problem is made. General treatment measures include the following:
• Oxygen through a tube in the nose or face mask
• Nitroglycerin under the tongue
• Pain medicines (morphine or meperidine)
• Aspirin: Those with allergy to aspirin may be given clopidogrel (Plavix).

Surgery

After a heart attack, you will usually be offered an exercise test. If this suggests that your coronary arteries have narrowed, an angiogram will be carried out. This involves injecting a dye into the blood so that the coronary blood vessels show up on an X-ray. If your arteries are narrowed, you can sometimes be treated with angioplasty or coronary artery bypass grafting.

The Bone Health Revolution Book Review

The Bone Health Revolution

by Vivian Goldschmidt

Recently my good friend Chris called to say her mom’s latest Bone scan revealed quite a bit of bone loss since her last test and the doc wanted to put her on osteoporosis meds.

This made Chris uncomfortable and she called to ask what, if anything I knew about these drugs, their efficacy, side effects and possible alternatives. My limited research after my own diagnosis of osteopenia a few years ago–a non-disease created to sell more drugs I’m convinced–led me to believe that the drugs were not a good choice and that there were many things to do first to strengthen bones naturally.

I fumbled through some of that I knew but told Chris I’d get back to her after getting my research updated and together. Meanwhile she found this month’s book.

The author Vivian Goldschmidt, has written a book I wish I’d penned.

Chris was correct, the book is a gold mine of the latest information on osteoporosis, osteopenia, and the drugs big Pharma would have us take to slow down this “disease”. Dirty little secret–osteoporosis is not a disease at all simply a function of aging. It is not inevitable and does not need dangerous drugs to prevent, reverse or slow it down. It can be slowed and reversed using diet, supplements, and exercise.

Did you know that the mean against which our middle aged bones are compared for their “health” is 20 – 29 year old women? As Vivian asked, “Are women expected to keep their bone density unchanged as they grow older?” How can we ever hope to have a “normal” bone density score as compared to women who are at their peak of bone health?

Not to mention that bone density–the characteristic of our bones being tested for–is not the best indicator of healthy bones, bone flexibility and strength is.

Bone loss associated with aging is normal, bone strength and resilience is what we should work towards.

Here are some bullet points Vivian covers in detail in her book:

# Osteoporosis is not a disease but actually it’s the body trying to correct an imbalance. And there’s one simple thing you can do to correct this imbalance.

# Osteoporosis is not inevitable. Anyone can easily prevent and reverse it without taking drugs. Actually, a 2006 report by the Mayo Clinic says that over 37% of women older than 50 don’t meet the true criteria of Osteoporosis and are wrongfully diagnosed! Are you one of them?

# The active ingredient in prescription Osteoporosis drugs (Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva) is a bisphosphonate. That’s just a fancy name for a common ingredient used in laundry detergents, fertilizers, and industrial lubricants. Would you put those in your body?

This is not fear mongering nor is it an anti-pharmaceutical rant. It is comprehensive research presented in lay person’s language. Vivian started on this quest when she was diagnosed was osteoporosis some years ago and given Fosamax by her doctor. Her science background-she has a degree in nutrition from New York University–and scientist’s curiosity drove her to research this so called disease and the “cures” being given liberally by many well-meaning docs.

What she found was shocking and she felt she had to write about it and help other women avoid the potentially life threatening–at the very least quality of life damaging–side effects of Big Pharma’s answer to this “problem.

“According to a recent article by Consumer Affairs (February 2007), Merck, the maker of Fosamax, has put aside $48 million to set up a defense fund for lawsuits related to the debilitating side-effects of Fosamax. Does Merck know something that the general public doesn’t?

Caveat: Vivian does not say that drugs like Fosamax, Actonel and Boniva do not harden bones. They do; it’s their ingredients, their side effects, and what we don’t know that encourages us to look for alternatives. And what we don’t yet know is whether the action of these bone building drugs will actually increase density but limit or prevent new bone formation which is more flexible and therefore less prone to fracture than old brittle bones.

If you have been diagnosed with either osteoporosis or osteopenia I encourage you to buy the book and try natural alternatives before a drug protacol. I can’t recommend this book enough.

Indications and Contraindications for Laser Therapy

Laser has been used successfully in physical medicine and rehabilitation for more than 30 years in various parts of the world and has begun to increase in popularity in the United States since the FDA has cleared its use for a number of medical indications. Laser treatment involves introducing the energy of light into damaged or injured tissues to promote healing through the stimulation of ATP production and lymphocyte activity among other physiological responses.

In the United States, the FDA has thoroughly evaluated and subsequently cleared a number of laser devices for the treatment of neck and shoulder pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. The FDA has also cleared infrared light, which is light energy with wavelengths longer than visible light, to do the following:

  • increase local blood circulation
  • alleviate minor muscle or joint aches, pain, and/or stiffness
  • relaxation of muscles
  • relieve muscle spasms
  • ease the pain and stiffness of associated with arthritis

Though laser therapy has been used safely and effectively throughout the world in animal research since the 1960’s and safely with humans since the 1970’s, there are precautions with regard to the use of laser and specific instances where laser should not be used.

Only authorized and trained medical professionals should use laser for medical treatment. Since the beam of an infrared laser cannot be detected by the human eye, protective eye wear that is designed for the wavelength being used should be worn to prevent accidental exposure. Infrared light will not usually cause the eye to blink for protect itself. Another precaution relates to the use of laser over growth plates in the bones. Though very few, if any, studies have concluded that the use of laser has any negative effect on growth plates, it is probably wise to avoid using a laser directly over them. Highly reflective jewelry should be removed from the area being treated, and treatment should not be done over or near reflective surfaces. Laser should only be applied to the area to be treated and should not be used over areas where sensation has been compromised, as the patient may not be able sense discomfort if the laser is too intense.

Laser should not be used to irradiate the eyes, over cancerous tumors, within 4 to 6 months of radiation therapy, over hemorrhage, over or near the thyroid or endocrine glands, over a fetus or uterus during pregnancy, in cases where the patient has sensitivity to light, if the patient is using medication that is photosensitive, or with patients that have vascular disease.

Laser use has been proven effective for the treatment of a number of conditions, and may prove to be effective in the treatment of others as the use of laser increases. However, when laser is used caution should be exercised and attention should be paid to the conditions under which laser may be harmful to avoid negative effects.

Bronchitis In Children – 20 Must Know Facts For Parents

Bronchitis is a respiratory ailment that can happen at all ages. It scares all the parents as they do not want their children to be afflicted with the ailment. A key identification of this ailment is inflammation of a person’s bronchi that is a part of our lungs.

First of all, the parents and/or caregivers can calm down as the medical findings have proved that bronchitis among children is not a chronic ailment.

Though among children bronchitis is certainly not a chronic ailment, the parents and/or caregivers must essentially acquire the knowledge on the disease. This way they would be able to help their child better while the child suffers a bronchitis attack.

In the disease of bronchitis, the air passages amidst the child’s lungs & nose swell up owing to the viral infection. This affects the child’s bronchi. Bronchi refer to the tubes where in the air passes through in to & out of the child’s lungs. Many a times, the tracheas & windpipe are also affected by this inflammation.

Bronchitis is of two types – acute & chronic.

Acute bronchitis or the short term bronchitis is perhaps the most common among bronchial ailments. Chronic bronchitis usually appears among the adults. The ones who smoke heavily and/or are prone to inhaling the chemical substances have quite many chances to catch chronic bronchitis.

Acute Bronchitis

1. This type of bronchitis is the most common one for the winter season, especially among children.

2. The viruses attack the child’s lining of bronchial tree that leads to infection. The swelling heightens as the child’s body combats with the attack of the viruses.

3. As the swelling increases, more & more mucus is produced in the body.

4. The child is most likely to develop acute bronchitis in case the causative virus of the ailment is inhaled in the air that they breathe or it can get passed over from a person coughing.

5. Therefore, the ailment of acute bronchitis is most oft acquired by the air the child breathes.

6. The symptoms & signs of acute bronchitis among children are:

i. Runny nose
ii. Followed by cough
iii. Slight fever
iv. Experiencing pain in the back & muscle area
v. Sore throat
vi. Getting chills
vii. Malaise

7. In the early stage of acute bronchitis, the child suffers with dry & unproductive cough. This later on develops in to copious cough all filled with mucus. In some cases, the child vomits or gags as he/she coughs.

8. In case you notice the symptoms given above in the children, the experts say, it is high time that you should take the child to the physician. Initially the doctor does a physical examination and refers to the child’s medical history to conclude whether he is suffering with the said ailment or not.

9. To verify the ailment developing in the child, the following tests are referred to by the medical practitioners:

i. Blood tests
ii. X-ray of the chest
iii. Lung Tests
iv. Pulse Oximetry
v. Sputum cultures

10. To cure the acute bronchitis among children the key word is taking rest. You must ensure that the child takes a good & well balanced meal. Also, drinking loads of non-caffeinated fluids is very helpful. Another key tip to cure this ailment is maintaining the in the surroundings of the child. You can do this by placing room humidifiers or keeping wet towels in several places in the house.

11. Some times the medical practitioners recommend some asthma related medications for the child. These medications help the child release the mucus jammed inside the child’s bronchi tubes. Usually with these medications an inhaler is also prescribed.

12. To relieve the child’s fever and the feeling of discomfort, analgesics are also a part of the prescription.

13. The parents and/or caregivers must note that hey should not give aspirin to the child who is suffering with bronchitis. This can lead to devastating results and other ailments like Reye’s syndrome.

14. Along side, antihistamines must also be prevented as these can worsen the cough of the child.

15. In order to avoid recurring acute bronchitis for the child, you must ensure that the child washes his hands well regularly.

16. Also make sure that the child keeps away from all sorts of smokes like that coming from the belches or cigarettes.

Chronic Bronchitis

1. When the bronchial symptoms persistently afflict the individual for three months or more, it is termed as chronic bronchitis.

2. This usually initiates with a continuous irritation in the bronchial tubes.

3. Among children, acute bronchitis is rather common as compared to the chronic type of the ailment. The studies prove that chronic bronchitis hits the children usually when the symptoms of acute bronchitis are not treated well and in time.

4. Bronchitis must not be taken lightly as this ailment can also lead to other severe conditions like pneumonia.

Whenever your child experiences cough or cold, rather than thinking it to be a simple phase take it seriously and consider a visit to your physician as it might get dangerous for the child leading to bronchitis!

Are Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) Devices Safe for All Ages to Use?

Electronic Muscle Stimulation Devices, or EMS devices, create electrical signals that stimulate the nerves. The devices are usually connected to the individual through electrode pads that are adhesive and they are very lightweight and battery-operated, which makes them so portable that they can be used just about anywhere.

Physical therapists and doctors prescribe these devices to reduce or completely avoid muscle atrophy in patients, especially after a surgical procedure or a severe injury. EMS devices are also used in those with paralysis and in anyone who needs to improve their blood circulation, improve their range of motion, or even increase muscle endurance. In addition, EMS devices may be used to relax muscles, re-educate nerves, and also in the management of pain.

As far as the safety of these devices, they are safe as long as they are used as directed. The medical community has used them for years for many of the reasons that were described above. EMS devices are regulated by the FDA, which means they regulate the sale of the many different kinds of EMS devices within the United States. This means that those companies who manufacture EMS devices must comply with regulations set forth by the FDA before they can ever sell their device. Their use is mainly meant for rehabilitation and other medical purposes, however there are bodybuilders using them all of the time to aid in the toning of muscles.

It is very important that the device meets FDA requirements. Doctors may choose to use these devices on children for medical reasons as will sports coaches and chiropractors. However, EMS devices shouldn’t be used on children before their mid to late teens unless there is a good medical reason for it. Children are growing and they usually get the necessary exercise to ensure they grow properly. For those who are paralyzed or have encountered a severe injury, a doctor may choose to go ahead with the use of an EMS device, but caution must be taken when doing so.

However, if an EMS device is being used that has not met the requirements of the FDA; it is illegal because that means it could be potentially hazardous. Anyone of any age, with the exception of young children and those in their early teens, can use an EMS device, but it is very important that it is ensured that the device is approved by the FDA.

Nevertheless, for those looking to achieve “six-pack” abs with these devices, that is an unreasonable expectation. EMS devices simply make the muscles contract, which will stimulate the muscles, but the stimulation will not go as far as providing someone with abs that are normally a result of working out at a gym. If the intent behind using these devices is for strengthening and toning, the best results are achieved by combining the EMS device with diet and exercise. Experienced bodybuilders realize this and will still use an EMS device to increase their endurance and their range of motion to avoid injury when enjoying their sport. The electric pulses helps in the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the muscle cells through improved circulation and various toxins are removed from the body as a result.

Despite these health advantages, again, it is not a good idea to use these devices on children unless a doctor deems it necessary for such conditions as paralysis. Furthermore, instructions from the FDA will state that EMS devices should not be used on children and should be used according to their intended use. If used otherwise, the person using the Electronic Muscle Stimulator device risks severe injury that could cost them in the long-run.

Pure Manuka Honey for People Suffering From Acid Reflux

Acid reflux develops in the body when there is a malfunction of esophageal muscles. When this malfunction happens, acid from the stomach backs up into the esophagus. The continued reflux of stomach liquids into the esophagus will result into the wearing out of the esophagus lining and may at time result to cancers. Pure Manuka honey will help in the healing of heartburn.

The disturbing symptoms of heartburn and stomach aces always make one be eager to find a permanent solution that will stop the problem for ever. Personally, I had searched for over 3 years for a sure medication to my digestive problems. I kept being disappointed time and again as I tried different pharmaceutical drugs only to realize they were not effective. I was in the habit of taking antacids everyday and the situation was getting worse by the day. Antacids are only temporary solutions to this disorder. If you have an acid reflux and you want a fast, temporary solution, antacids will suffice. However, if you desire for a permanent solution to all heartburn related problems, natural and organic solutions will help. For the last one year, I have used many natural products to help me in acid reflux healing. One of the natural products I have used is the pure Manuka honey. This honey has really helped me a lot and I can say presently I am on my way to total recovery from acid reflux.

Dr. Molan from Waikato University in New Zealand is the brain child behind the Manuka honey. Over 20 years, Dr. Molan has spent researching on this type of honey and resulted to the final conclusion that it is a viable alternative treatment option for acid reflux and heartburns. Tests done on people who had acid refluxes and started using Manuka honey showed that the acid reflux either reduced significantly or in many cases disappeared. This honey when ingested in the body destroys some types of bacteria found in the esophagus that may be contributing to the severity of the reflux. Bacteria in the esophagus not only cause acid reflux, but they also cause other complications such as peptic ulcers and Hiatal hernia. Just a small dose of Manuka honey guarantees treatment of the various complications afflicting the esophagus and the stomach. This honey will also prevent one from contracting peptic ulcers and refluxes.

Pure Manuka honey works by forming a coating in the esophagus. This coating will destroy all the bacteria present in the esophagus and will help in the healing of acid reflux naturally. This coat will also help stop the bleeding in the stomach which results to production of stool, which has traces of blood. Stomach inflammation and other types of ulcers will also be healed by the daily taking of Manuka honey.

Manuka honey should be applied 3×1 teaspoon on a piece of bread. This piece should then be taken 20 minutes before every meal. During these 20 minutes, one should not drink water so that the honey coats the stomach without being diluted.

All in all, Manuka honey will prove beneficial in stopping acid refluxes when it is taken daily, 20 minutes before each and every meal. Always consult with your doctor to make sure no complication may arise from the use of natural products such as active Manuka honey.

My Burning Kneecap Pain : How Can I Get Rid of It!!? – a Brace Can Help, Read on

Burning knee pain is for the birds!

The knee discomfort comes on suddenly, as if it does not care about you! It comes on when it wants to… After exercise, in the morning, when sitting for long periods of time. It does not need to feel invited, it just shows up when it wants to.

The knee discomfort you have can quickly get more and more intense, to the point where you are now looking for relief. – Can you relate?

What can cause such an aggravating knee pain problem?

Maybe, more importantly, what can you do about it?

The knee is an intricate mechanism that takes a lot of daily abuse. Nearly all of the activities that we do somehow involves the use of our knee, in some way or another. Whether we realize it or not…

Just like any mechanism, as time goes on, the integral components can start to wear out. – One part of the knee that often experiences wear and tear is the patella, otherwise known as the kneecap. The kneecap can be affected by trauma (i.e. remember hitting your patella on the furniture in your home about a month back?) or by overuse (i.e. that new jogging routine of yours is great for the waist but may not be so good for the knees). But even if you have not injured your knee or participated in rigorous sports, time itself and daily wear take can their toll on your patella, which can result in your burning kneecap pain.

Sometimes, the kneecap itself can get “off track” and become dislocated. Again, this can result in knee pain. Sometimes, due to a number of reasons, inflammation can occur under the kneecap, interfering with the movement of the joint and causing burning kneecap pain.

If you experience this kind of discomfort that is persistent, recurs, or worsens over time, it is best to have your knee evaluated by a medical professional. Only a qualified specialist can diagnose the cause of your intense knee discomfort and recommend the most effective course of treatment.

But, in the meatime, there are things you can do to help add stability and help reduce your knee pain problem. Aside from conventional at-home treatments, such as rest (which can have limited benefits), ibuprofen and/or ice packs, one of the most successful ways to help alleviate your knee pain is the use of a knee brace. – These supports should never be overlooked.

Knee braces can be useful in helping stabilize the patella, and knee joint itself. Specialized supports can help to keep the kneecap on its proper “track” over the femur. Further, a knee brace can help reduce the stress on the knee joint itself, helping to slow the wear and tear on the meniscus, and helping to relieve inflammation occurring within the knee. As a result, the knee brace can help significantly reduce the sensation of burning kneecap pain. – The great things about a knee support is that they do not have to be really big and bulky either.

You do not have to have a perscription to get a knee support. In fact, there are many different knee brace options for you to choose from.

Bronchitis Signs – How To Identify Them For Early Diagnosis

All disorders are accompanied by characterisitc signs, including bronchitis, a respiratory disorder that affects the lives of a number of people in different parts of the world. The signs of bronchitis are often mistaken to be cold. However, physicians around the world can make an accurate diagnosis on the basis of the signs of bronchitis described by their patients as well as the findings of laboratory tests.

Bronchitis is of two types–acute and chronic. Acute bronchitis is a milder form that lasts for a few days. On the other hand, chronic bronchitis is a severe, long-lasting condition that requires careful medical attention and treatment. Doctors can easily distinguish between the varieties on the basis of the different signs of bronchitis in the patient.

Signs of Bronchitis

Acute bronchitis bears a lot of resemblance to common cold. The symptoms include severe coughing, low-grade fever, fatigue, pain in the chest and throat, and wheezing.

The signs of chronic bronchitis includes persistent and productive cough, obstruction of the air passages with mucus, breathlessness, fever, chest pain, and several attacks of acute bronchitis. A chronic bronchitis patient suffers from cough especially during the winter. The cough decreases in intensity during the summer.

In many cases, the signs of bronchitis are similar to the signs of other disorders of the respiratory system such as chronic sinusitis. Some of the the common signs are soreness, tightness in the chest, wheezing, malaise, low-grade fever, congestion, chills, sore throat, and breathlessness.

Recognising the signs of bronchitis leads to the correct diagnosis of this condition. Then an appropriate treatment plan can be drawn up to keep this condition under control. If you neglect the signs of bronchitis, it will lead to complications such as chronic bronchitis or even asthmatic bronchitis.

Things to Do and Avoid

To normalize breathing patterns after you are cured of bronchitis, perform aerobic exercises on a regular basis. Bronchitis patients have to exercise a lot even if the exercises are as simple as taking a walk. In addition, you could also try cardio exercises in order to improve your breathing, strengthen your muscles, and achieve a state of calmness.

If you are suffering from bronchitis, acute or chronic, avoid eating dairy food because it encourages the excessive secretion of mucus, which in turn can worsen the infection. You indirectly help the bacteria to grow and multiply in your system when you eat dairy products.

Pepper, garlic, and chicken stock will help you deal with acute bronchitis. These items liquefy the phlegm and make it easier for patients to expel it from their system.

Eucalyptus soothes the irritation in the bronchi and improve respiration.

Warm compresses and hot baths clear the mucus and stabilize the breathing process.

If you are a smoker, quit smoking for good. Avoid smoke from other smokers because this constitutes passive smoking, which is more dangerous than active smoking.

Signs of bronchitis serve to warn the person about its arrival. As soon as you observe signs of bronchitis in your body, visit the doctor. If you detect and treat the disease in its early stages, you can prevent further complications. Take the help of an experienced and reputed medical practitioner.
