A Brief Biography of Anthony Robbins

Tony was born on 29th February 1960, a birthday he should only celebrate every leap year. He often talks about his mother having several partners and he having several fathers during his upbringing. The Robbins family often did not have much money and he has talked about charity being offered to them on Thanks Giving.

Anthony Robbins has always been big in stature, but also big on goals too. By his late teens he had already found himself studying NLP (Nero Linguistic Programming) with John Grinder, one of the founders of NLP. He did this by just pure determination and not excepting a no for an answer, so that John finally agreed to show him the skills. Still in his late teens he developed his own diamond method and became very popular in helping peoples’ fears and phobias.

He was labeled the “Wonder Kid” and was even written about in the national press and was earning some quite substantial money for someone of his age. But with success came self destruction and soon after, Anthony Robbins found himself sitting in a bachelor pad, overweight and where his biggest priority was to watch general Hospital on TV.

He describes a friend coming around to his apartment and convincing him that he was wasting his life away as the turning point at this stage. Anthony clearly had the tools and skills; he just was choosing not to demand more from himself. From this day he never looked back.

Robbins big break came in Canada, where on a local radio station he challenged that he could cure anyone with a phobia or fear instantly. He was challenged by a local Physiologist, who had a patient he had been working on for years and had never been able to cure her. That night on stage at a local hotel, many people had turned up to see this dual between Robbins and the physiologist. So many, that the audience was forced to stand around the walls. The patient had been afraid of snakes and nothing that she had tried in the past had worked. Tony used his skills that he had learned with NLP and a bit of entertainment to, and sure enough within seconds, this lady was quite happy to have snakes around her.

The publicly from this event sent Tony’s career forward at an incredible speed, everyone wanted a piece of Robbins knowledge and skills. With one year Anthony was a multimillionaire living in a castle above the cliffs of California. His books became instant best sellers and his motivational tapes were sold over the world and became the best selling motivational tapes ever. Tony was pretty much elevated to superstar status.

He now found himself helping the rich and famous. Names that publicly support Tony’s work are Michael Douglas, Andre Agassi, Quincy Jones and countless more. He has also been associated with 2 presidents, Nelson Mandella and even Princess Diana. Clearly a seriously impressive portfolio!

But at his peak, Anthony was to disappoint his fans by announcing his divorce from his wife of many years Becky. Becky had appeared on many of his tapes, had a book dedicated to her, but what really upset his followers was that his divorce seemed to contradict his teachings in his books and tapes. He had often used his relationship with Becky to show that people are different and that happy relationships can be formed and can be lasting if you follow some of Anthony’s lessons.

Although some people never forgave Tony for these events, most people moved on from this realizing that Tony is just as human as everyone else and happiness has to be the major factor of life. Becky apparently is still a friend with Robbins and she still works at one of his companies.

Robbins used the lessons from his own divorce, to put into his seminars and books to make him more popular than ever and now with his new wife is as active as he ever was.

Now in his forties, he sleeps only a few hours a day, has relentless energy and never accepts anything less than the best. Even after his seminars, which often finish at the early hours of the morning, he still goes to work to find out what he could have done better. Of course there are still those who criticize him and what he teaches and even those who think he is a fraud. But you cannot deny that Anthony Robbins has had an extraordinary life and like him or love him, extremely successful.

Using 5-HTP As a Natural Flight Anxiety Treatment

With the almost necessity of air travel in today’s society it is important for everyone to be comfortable with flying throughout the entire duration the flight. While flight anxiety to some degree is extremely common and afflicts nearly all travelers at some point during the flight, for some this anxiety gets to a point of becoming unbearable. The sufferers experience constant and often debilitating worry and anxiety throughout the flight which makes the entire experience at its best, miserable, and potentially dangerous to their health.

Different solutions are sought by different people. Some people choose to drink mass amounts of alcohol, others look to prescription medicines to help them relieve their anxiety. Both of these methods often do not even work that well, and have terrible side effects. These can cause extreme disorientation, and once you arrive at your orientation disorientation is not something that is very helpful.

There are also natural solutions people employ. These include music therapy, and meditation. Both of these methods can be effective, however it is rare for these to be effective, and it often requires years of practice to master this solution to the point where they can provide meaningful relief.

A final, and recommended solution is to take a natural supplement to help relieve anxiety. One of these supplements is known as 5-HTP. 5-HTP is actually a naturally occurring amino acid found in the brain. This amino acid is a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin. This means that it activates a part of the brain to produce the neurotransmitter serotonin. Serotonin is known to affect mood, and anxiety levels. When you take 5-HTP, it naturally causes the brain to produce more serotonin which decreases anxiety levels, and can lead to a happy stress free flight.

Stem Cell Therapy Cerebral Palsy a Medical Breakthrough

One condition which can really impair people and make them disable for life is cerebral palsy. Now, patients with cerebral palsy have greater chance to live normal lives   with the help of stem cell therapy cerebral palsy. People know that the brain is one of the most fascinating organs in the body, because it takes control of other organs to function well. It is also very sensitive to any kind of injury. When the brain is totally injured by accident, you can experience permanent damage which can affect other parts of your body like your motor function. Head injuries to adults are life threatening let alone to infants. One of the most common head injuries for infant is cerebral palsy.

Having a cerebral palsy can make an individual disabled. It can impair hearing, speech, learning, movement and thinking. Children suffering from this condition now have the possibility to live normal life with the help of stem cell.

In China, there is are hospitals that are doing a medical breakthrough. Stem Cell Therapy Asia helps patients to find the best treatment options in Asia. The staff members are doing wonders to all their patients with cerebral palsy. With the help of stem cell they have found the best treatment which can really help patients with this kind of condition.

Today, the hospital is working on the improvement of a 19 year old patient from Hungary suffering from cerebral palsy. The patient is now undergoing their treatment for cerebral palsy which includes stem cell therapy cerebral palsy. The treatment requires the injection of stem cell into the spinal cord fluid of the patient. After several administration of the treatment, the patient is sure to show great signs of improvements. The patient can now sit for longer hours. This is such a great improvement for patients with cerebral palsy.

There are different kinds of cerebral palsy and these are spastic cerebral palsy, dyskinetic, ataxic, and mixed cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is not actually contagious no matter what type is. This will only occur when there is sudden damage caused by head injury during the fetal development.

Stem cell therapy cerebral palsy is not available in all parts of the world and China is blessed to have the right facility to administer stem cell treatment. Medical practitioners there   are willing to try anything just to increase the quality of life of the children. Parents do raise money just to send their ailing child to China to undergo the treatment.

Stem cell treatment for cerebral palsy patients is only available in China. There the result of the treatment to patients with cerebral palsy is also very dramatic. Today as the development of stem cell treatment go further, these children have all the chance in the world to live a normal life like other children their age.

The main impact of stem cell to children with this kind of treatment is huge because it can change their life for the better.

5 Things You Need to Know About TS Eliot

Thomas Stearns Eliot, born to a successful entrepreneur Henry Ware Eliot in the year 1888, was a remarkable poet, literary critic and dramatist. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, United States on September 26. Eliot came as an immigrant to the United Kingdom at the age of 25 (in the year 1914) and acquired British citizenship in the year 1927. However, he never favored one nation of the two and had equal liking to New England and the Southwest. For his outstanding contributions to the world of poetry, Eliot was awarded Nobel Prize in 1948.The Waste Land, The Love song of J. Alfred Prufrock, The Hollow Men, etc. are the most prolific amongst his poems. There is a lot to know about T.S. Eliot and here are the 5 interesting facts people should know about him.

1) Friendship with Ezra Pound – The meeting of Pound and Eliot took place in Europe during 1914 and immediate friendship grew between them as both were exiles with great interest in arts. Before that, Eliot wandered many places to get his “Prufrock” published, but was rejected. In the year 1915, Ezra Pound suggested Harriet Monroe the founder of Poetry Magazine to publish the poem. The conversations, letters, poems and essays that have flown between them are considered as the driving force for Modernism.

2) First marriage & The Waste Land – On June 26, 1915 T.S. Eliot married Vivienne Haigh-Wood; unfortunately, the marriage didn’t turn out to be a happy union as she suffered from frequent migraines, insomnia, colitis, fatigue, high temperature along with mental instability. Eliot had to suffer mentally by looking at her wife constantly visiting doctors and he stated that the torment he felt during those has encouraged him to write “The Waste Land”.

3) Captain – Lyndall Gordon, the biographer of Eliot in the book “T.S. Eliot: A Modern Life”, writes about a fascinating behavior of Eliot.During the early parts of the 1920s, there were two hideaways for Eliot one at Charing Cross Road and the other at St. Martin’s Lane. When he was in the former, he only responded when people called him “The Captain” and when he was in the latter, he only responded when people called him “Captain Eliot”.

4) Faber & Faber – Eliot was considered a practical joker while working at Faber & Faber. This was due to his behavior during a board meeting where he placed firecrackers between the legs of the chairman and set them off. Furthermore, he greeted the authors with whoopee cushions on the chairs and offering explosive cigars.

5) Anti-Semitism – Is T.S. Eliot a hater of Jews? There are many literary critics like Harold Bloom, George Steiner, James Fenton, Christopher Ricks, and James Fenton, who criticized Eliot of adopting anti-Semitic elements in his works. Anthony Julius in his work “T.S. Eliot, Anti-Semitism, and Literary Form revealed the comparison of Jews with rats in the poem “Burbank with a Baedeker: Bleistein with a Cigar”.

T.S. Eliot, considered as the most enigmatic figure of his age, died on January 4, 1965, in his Kensington home, London. The man who effectively delivered a lecture to 13,523 people at the University of Minnesota became silent forever because of emphysema, but his works will forever remain inspirational and influential.

Upholstery Cleaning – A Great Benefit for Your Health

Upholstery cleaning is mostly required in the house if you want to keep your resident germ free. Cleaning is an essential component that makes your house look neat, clean, and tidy. Without regular cleaning, there will be an accumulation of dirt on the surfaces that will get attached to the body and cause various illnesses. One should not overlook the upholstery of their homes as they are the places where the maximum of the dirt accumulates and viruses grow. The soft textiles covering the sofas and the armchairs are the breeding places of the bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

How Can it Improve Health?

Regular vacuuming the delicate material can help to a great extent to get rid of the dust and dirt that has settled over the ages. While vacuuming try not to leave any corners of the upholstery and make sure that you do not damage the comfortable padding of the sofa and the chairs.

When you get rid of the dust and soil, you help your body to get relief from the breathing problems and clogged nose. The negligible dust particles enter through the nose while breathing and settle in the tiny chambers of the lungs, making it difficult for you to breathe properly.

Different allergens and pathogens get mixed with the food you eat sitting on the sofa. The food that you eat marks the presence of mould, fungus, and other microorganisms that can cause severe health effect if consumed daily. The main health concerns that can affect you and your family as well are asthma, cough, skin disease, and other illnesses.

Periodic cleaning of the upholstery will assist you in removing the bacteria and the microorganisms from the cover and make it a safe and healthy place to sit. Nowadays, the green soap solutions and the hybrid machines available in the market have extended the horizon for the users to clean their upholstery instantly.

By the application of the heat and temperature on the fabrics, along with the eco-friendly soap solutions, you can easily kill all the harmful pathogens as well as remove the sticky oil and grease from the surface. The presence of excessive heat and the composition present in the mixtures work together to eliminate the existence of the microorganisms and stop them from growing again and again.

This will automatically enrich your health and make your surroundings germ free. Besides improving your health, the regular cleaning process will ensure you to sit and relax in a neat & clean ambiance.

What Are The Causes of Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy is not a disease but a condition, just like deaf.Children and adults with this condition should not be called as cerebral palsy children but children having cerebral palsy. Similarly for the deaf, one should speak person is having deafness and not to call him a deaf person.

What Is Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy is a non progressive neuromuscular disorder causing mild to severe disabilities throughout life. This condition is manifested as a group of persisting qualitative motor disorders which appear in young children due to damage to the brain during delivery or due to some pathological conditions in the intrauterine life. The neuroligical problems are multiple but non progressive in nature.Approximately 2 per 100 live birth is having this problem. This disease is having no hereditary tendency.

Causes of Cerebral Palsy
1.Injury to the brain during delivery.
2.As a complication of forceps delivery.
3.Lack of oxygen supply to the baby during delivery.
4.Infections during delivery.

Signs and symptoms of Cerebral Palsy
The signs and symptoms may not be similar in all babies affected.Depending upon the damage to the brain there may be mild to severe lesions.

1.Mild cases – 20% children will have mild disability.
2.Moderate cases – 50% cases are having moderate disability.
The affected children require self help for assisting their impaired ambulation capacity.
3.Severe cases -About 30% of the affected children are totally incapacited and bedridden.
They always need care from others.

Abnormal findings of Cerebral palsy
1,Abnormal neonatal reflexes.
2,Stiffness of all muscles with awkward motion.
3,Extention of extremities on vertical suspension of the infant.
4,Scissoring of the lower limbs due to spasm of the adductor muscles of the thigh.
5,In severe cases the back bend backwards like and arch.
6,May have total or partial paralysis.
7,Arrest of neurological and behavioral developement.
8,Swallowing may be difficult in some cases.
9,Drooling of saliva.
10,Mild to severe mental retardations.
11,Abnormal movements are seen in some cases.
12,Tremors with typical movements.
13,If cerebellum is affected there will be loss of muscle tone with difficulty in walking.
14,Complete or partial loss of hearing.
15,Speech may be affected.
16,Squint and other visual problems may be associated.
17,Convulsions may be seen in some children.

Cerebral palsy is diagnosed by detailed clinical examination and by eliminating other similar diseases like brain tumour, progressive atrophy ect.All investigations like CT scan,MRI and routine investigations are needed to ruleout other diseases.

Management of Cerebral Palsy

1.General Management – This includes proper nutrition and personal care. Symptomatic medicines are needed to reduce convulsions and muscle stiffness. Diazepam can reduce spasticity and athetosis.
Dantrolene sodium helps to relax skeletal muscles.

2.Physiotherapy – Here massage, exercise, hydrotherapy and ect are needed.Special training is given to train walking, swallowing and talking. The affected children are also trained to hold articles for routine activities.

3.Rehabilitation – Moral and social support should be given to these children. They should be send to special schools where special training can be given by trained staff.Mentally retarded children need special training.Depending up on the disabitity special instruments and machines are given for locomotion and to assist their daytoday activities.

4.Occupational Therapy – This is given by occupational therapists. They train the disabled people to do some suitable works so that these people can have their own income.

Reflexology for a Dancers Feet

Flirtingly glimpsed from beneath a long skirt or peeking from the end of harem pants, the feet of a dancer – though not the obvious focus – play an important part.

Our feet are a complex collection of 26 bones and 33 joints in a network of 126 muscles, ligaments, and nerves. On average we spend four hours a day on our feet and take between 8,000 and 10,000 steps. Compared to the rest of our body, our feet are very small and every step puts about 50% more than our body weight on them. In an average day our feet support a combined force equal to several hundred tons. In addition to supporting our bodies, our feet act as shock absorbers and move us forward, helping to balance and adjust our body on uneven surfaces.

Taking these facts into consideration we should not be surprised that our feet are vulnerable to injuries. Some factors that can increase the risk of injury are:

o Inexperience – beginners can be vulnerable to injury because they don’t have the skills to meet the physical demands of their chosen dance style. Follow the instructions of your teacher.

o Poor fitness – weak muscles are more likely to tear when challenged or stretched. Gradually increased progressions will improve your fitness and muscle strength.

o Poor technique – for example, bringing your foot down to the floor with more force than necessary can injure soft tissue and bone.

o Poor posture – weak muscles in the back and abdomen increase the risk of injury to all areas of the body including the spine and legs.

o Fatigue – a tired dancer tends to lose form. Falls and injuries caused by sloppy technique are more likely.

o Hazardous environment: worn or ripped carpet, hard floor, uneven floor, spilled liquids, or objects close to the dance area.

o Over work – dancing too long or too often can lead to a wide range of overuse injuries, particularly to the tendons and bones. Shin splints and stress fractures in the feet are common dance-related overuse injuries.

o Failure to rest an injury – returning to dance before an existing injury has healed can aggravate the condition. For example, injured knee ligaments may tear.

Some of the most common injuries are:

o Sprains and strains – muscles and ligaments can be overstretched or twisted. The knee and ankle are especially vulnerable.

o Stress fractures – dance moves that require force and repetition, such as dancing on concrete or any very hard surface, may cause small breaks in the bones of the foot and ankle.

o Tendonitis – painful inflammation of a tendon (connective tissue that anchors muscle to bone).

o Blisters – poorly fitting shoes that rub can cause blisters on the feet and toes.

o Toenail injuries – poorly fitting shoes that crowd the toes may lead to bruising of the toenails or ingrown toenails.

o Impact injuries – such as bruises, caused by falling over, bumping into another dancer or tripping over props.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the physical act of systematic manual stimulation through variable pressure of the reflexes located in the hands and feet.

Concrete evidence of the practice of reflexology in ancient times is shown in a wall painting depicting the practice of hand and foot reflexology in the tomb of Ankhmahor (highest official after the Pharaoh) at Saqqara, dating from about 2330 B.C. (before common era)

Before this discovery, it was believed that reflexology had ancient origins and was thought to have developed alongside the ancient Chinese practices of acupuncture. Similarly, North American Indian medicine men are believed to manipulate and stimulate the feet as a part of their healing practice.

Modern Reflexology was popularized by Eunice Ingham, a physical therapist, who brought Reflexology to the American public and the non-medical community, as well as Naturopaths, Chiropodists, Osteopaths, Massage Therapists and Physiotherapists until her death in 1974.

What can you expect from a Reflexology treatment?

Reflexology is a non-invasive, drug-free therapy. Your practitioner will take a medical history before treatment. You will never be asked to disrobe but will be asked to remove your shoes and socks. While seated in a comfortable chair you will receive a therapeutic foot soak with an aromatherapy component if you like. The practitioner will begin with relaxation techniques followed by applying firm but gentle pressure to each of the reflex points in the hands and feet. Many clients find this to be deeply relaxing and take a short nap during treatment which will last approximately 45 minutes. After treatment it is advised that you drink plenty of fresh water to help flush toxins from your body and that you eat lightly for the rest of the day.

Through Reflexology we can care for our feet and entire body, bringing it into balance and promoting good health. Providing more than pain relief, Reflexology has been shown to enhance your body’s ability to heal more quickly, and help increase stamina, providing more energy and less injury.

The staff at Inner Rhythms Healing Arts is committed to healing and preventing injury. We are highly trained, certified, licensed (where applicable), and insured.

We have extensive stage and theatre performance experience, knowing first-hand the problems and injuries that can arise from working ‘on stage’.

We are happy to come to your office or studio for Reflexology and can arrange to be available for rehearsals or performance events.

Because pain is unpredictable, our therapists can usually see you at our clinic the day you call. We accept all major credit/debit cards, and look forward to working with you.

Vegetables Preservation – The Different Methods

The harvest has been a good one and you now have vegetables in abundance and you certainly don’t want to waste all that time and effort by letting the stuff go bad on you. There are many methods for preserving vegetables after harvesting them and the method you choose will depend on the type of vegetable to be preserved and your skills in the kitchen. In this way you can give your family healthy, nutritious meals for a good long while to come.

Freezing: is an easy and convenient method of preserving vegetables and it has the added advantage of being the least time consuming of all the methods. It is recommended that you set your freezer at 0 degrees to freeze vegetables. Foods spoil because of microorganisms and enzymes that are present. These enzymes cause the deterioration of food since they promote chemical reactions which include ripening. Freezing helps to stop the enzymes from acting.

In order to freeze vegetables properly you need to blanch them immediately after they are harvested. This is one of the best ways to retain nutrients, color, flavor and texture of the vegetables, which can last up to 12 weeks in the freezer. When you blanch the vegetables it prevents the enzymes from continuing to act on them, causing them to lose color and flavor. After blanching, place the vegetables on a baking sheet in a single layer and freeze as quickly as possible – you can try minus 20 degrees. After the vegetables have frozen you can pack them into freezer bags for storing in the freezer. Some vegetables like beetroots need to be fully cooked before freezing and some can be frozen raw.

Canning: is an excellent way to preserve vegetables such as tomatoes, mushrooms and beans that have a high water content. Vegetables that are healthy and disease free should be chosen. Wash them well and then process them in boiling water or a pressure canner. Make sure to use sterilized jars with seal lids that are new. Be very careful not to under process the vegetables especially green beans when using boiling water; the threat of botulism poisoning is very real!

Drying: is also a rather easy process and you don’t need any special equipment to get the job done. You can use a dehydrator and if you haven’t got one, then use the oven. Choose vegetables that have fully matured, not bruised and diseased ones. There should be good air circulation all through the drying process to prevent the vegetables from spoiling. This process is a long drawn out one so make sure you have lots of time on hand and stock up on patience as well.

Storing: this is by far the easiest method of preserving your harvested vegetables. Root vegetables like onions and squash will last the longest when stored after they have been cured. Fully mature, healthy vegetables should be chosen for storage. Use up any bruised and immature ones at the earliest. You need to clean off the soil and allow the vegetables to dry well before you store them. Don’t forget to keep a small stem on your root crops.

Are Corpus Luteum Cysts Dangerous?

You have been diagnosed with ovarian corpus luteum cysts. You have no idea of the cause; and you are concerned about your ability to conceive and have a baby in the future. Doctors are great with million dollar words. But, you have some basic questions:

What is a corpus luteum cyst?

During a normal reproductive cycle the ovaries actually develop a cyst-like sac that fills with fluid. With the increased production of estrogen and progesterone, the sac will burst and the egg will be released for potential fertilization. In some cases, the corpus luteum will seal again, instead of going away. The sealed cyst will then fill with more fluid.

Are corpus luteum cysts dangerous?

Generally, a woman will never know she has a corpus luteum cyst. It does not even hurt, and it will not prevent or harm a subsequent pregnancy. However, in the rare event the cyst does not resolve itself, the sac can become too large, twist, and cause abdominal pain sometimes accompanied by vomiting and fever.

Corpus luteum cysts can be dangerous if the symptoms go beyond abdominal pain and vomiting. If a luteum cyst bursts, it can cause internal bleeding. Then, it is extremely important to get prompt medical attention.

What are the treatment options?

Most of the time, corpus luteum cysts resolve themselves and treatments are not even necessary. However, if the cysts become too painful, grow too large and press against the bladder, or cause any other unpleasant symptoms that make daily life miserable, a woman has 3 choices:

1.       Hormone therapy

A doctor will likely suggest hormone therapy as the first line of defense. However, it means taking birth control pills, which can make pregnancy impossible and be a semi-permanent answer to a natural problem.

2.       Surgery

In the event the corpus luteum cysts grow too big and twist the ovary, a doctor may recommend the invasive approach of surgery. Rather than wait until the cyst bursts and causes additional health concerns, it might be necessary to remove the problem through laparoscopy or other procedure.

3.       Holistic therapy

Many women have chosen holistic treatment to resolve corpus luteum cysts and make sure the cysts do not painfully recur in the future. No synthetic hormones that prevent pregnancy are necessary; invasive and expensive surgery is not necessary; and there is no potential harm to the reproductive system.

So, if you have been diagnosed with a corpus luteum cyst, give holistic therapy a try before choosing a more drastic approach. The natural method of curing a natural problem is best – particularly since it will get rid of your cysts once and for all. Many women can testify to the positive results. Why subject your body to hormones or surgery, when you have the much safer and more effective alternative of holistic therapy?

Osteoporosis: a Silent Killer of Bones

Osteoporosis is a bone disease. It is virtually a disease on account of which the bones generally become fragile and weak. Osteoporosis if not taken proper care of lead may to the breakage of the bones thus leading to a fracture. Osteoporosis generally is found to be very much typical in certain parts of the body, say for instance in the hips, wrists, spinal cord and also in the vertebras. Osteoporosis is like a silent killer which attacks an individual without prior symptoms.

Simply a sneezing, a tight hug, stepping, bending down to get something can cause Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is also known by another name called “porous bone.” There are certain factors which are associated with Osteoporosis. These factors are termed as “Risk Factors.” Some of the factors are as mentioned below:

• Gender: Sex plays a major concern in the occurrence of Osteoporosis. Females have a more probability of being attacked with Osteoporosis than the male generation. Sometimes Osteoporosis is also related with menopause. Osteoporosis is estimated to have been attacking the women folk as and when they reach the stage of menopause. Thus when a woman reaches the age of around 45 years and when she is attacked with menopause that is when she experiences the stoppage of menstruation, the velocity of Osteoporosis is found to be more.
• Age: Age is yet another risk factor of Osteoporosis. The more a person advances in age, the more is the risk of being attacked with Osteoporosis. It is generally during the old age that the bones become very much weak and fragile and thus they are prone to get attacked with Osteoporosis.
• Body dimensions: Women with thin and lean body physique have more the chance of being attacked with Osteoporosis.
• Ethnicity: Ethnicity plays a major role in respect of Osteoporosis. Here we can state that Asian as well as the Caucasian women folk has a high risk of Osteoporosis then when compared to American, African and Latin women.
• Hereditary: Family history is also adversely related with Osteoporosis. Present generation whose fore-fathers suffered from Osteoporosis, has more risk of Osteoporosis.

Besides these, anorexia, certain medications, smoking of cigarette, excessive drinking of alcohol and also maintenance of a low lifetime diet with less amount of vitamin D and calcium also causes Osteoporosis.

As it is always said that prevention is better then cure, thus Osteoporosis can also be prevented by undertaking certain precautions in the early stage of one’s development. As the demand of calcium is found to be very high in the growing stage of one’s development, thus a good amount of calcium products should be undertaken from the early developmental stages. Inadequacy of calcium in one’s body has a greater prospect to be affected by Osteoporosis. So it is always advisable to undertake certain calcium products in one’s diet like yogurt, milk, cheese, ice cream, green and leafy vegetables, like broccoli, spinach etc, fish like salmon and sardines, dry fruits like almonds, juices and squash etc. Thus according to the different stages of one’s development right from the stage of infancy to old age, the intake of calcium should be adjusted accordingly in order to prevent Osteoporosis.

Layout of Natural Treatments For Oral Yeast Infection

The symptoms of oral yeast infection, also called oral thrush, can be agonizing, frustrating and embarrassing, of which the white lesions and flakes from the tongue to the throat, red and raw skin in and around the mouth, and a bad taste in the mouth are the worst. Fortunately, natural herbal treatments to treat oral thrush are many, all of which have been proven in clinical trials and anecdotal evidence to relieve the symptoms, cure the infection and make it stay away.

Nutritional Supplementation

Most mild to moderate oral yeast infection responds to little or no treatment at all, often just resolving by itself through the body’s natural immune system. However, it does help to speed up the process by taking nutritional supplements.

These can include tablets with acidophilus and bifida bacteria that restores the natural balance between the “good bacteria” and the “bad yeasts” in oral thrush infections. Furthermore, these bacteria clean up the intestines of toxins that make it more difficult for the Candida fungi to grow out of proportion and bring on oral thrush.

Of course, if you are not one for tablets, then drinking more yogurts is the solution. Gargling with sugar-free natural yogurt is also a good idea to enable the good bacteria in it to eliminate the excess yeast in the mouth. Just hold the yogurt in your mouth for about 5 minutes, spit it out and then rinse thoroughly.

Drinking Teas

There are many herbal teas that can cure oral yeast infection in addition to significantly contributing to the general well-being of the individual, of which the most notable of these are chamomile tea and pau d’ arco tea.

When taken either before or after eating, chamomile tea stimulates hydrochloric acid (HCL) production in the stomach. HCL keeps the stomach healthy by preventing orally-ingested pathogens like bacteria and parasites from overwhelming the body and it prevents the overgrowth of fungi in the small intestine. Thus, chamomile tea both eliminates the excess fungi in the body and keeps the fungi at normal levels that, in turn, cures and prevents the recurrence of oral thrush. On the other hand, pau d’ arco tea resists the growth of fungi. This makes it ideal as a fungicide especially when taken in 2-3 cups daily.

Topical Applications

Where nutritional supplementation and teas are oral medications meant to penetrate the body at the cellular level, topical applications basically aim to treat oral yeast infection directly at the affected area. It is no less effective simply because the infection receives direct attention, which often means that painful symptoms are also alleviated almost immediately.

Topical applications include goldenseal poultice; tea tree oil wash or grapefruit seed extract that can be done by combining 5 drops to 1/2 cup of cooled boiled water and used to wash mouth with cotton swab; and vinegar or baking soda wash where 1 teaspoon of white vinegar/baking soda must be added to 1 cup of water and used with cotton swab on mouth, too.

It cannot be overemphasized that natural treatments for oral yeast infection can only be effective when proper care and caution are exercised. But ultimately, natural treatments are still best because of its healing efficacy and cost-effectiveness.

The Pros and Cons of Becoming a Paramedic

Choosing to become a paramedic is a great decision. As a paramedic, you play a critical part in helping to save lives during an emergency situation. However, the job of an advanced emergency medical technician is not all sunshine and roses. As with any job, there are pros and cons to entering this emergency medical services field. Below, you will find some common pros and cons associated with becoming a paramedic.

To get things started, here are some of the pros to being a paramedic.

Helping Others: This by far can be considered the number one pro to becoming a paramedic. You are directly involved with helping someone else. Often times, you are helping to save the life of someone you don’t even know. It’s an amazing feeling to know that you’re making a difference to a person who is potentially having the worst day of their life.

Good Pay and Job Outlook: The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that employment as an EMT and paramedic is expected to grow by about 33 percent between now and the year 2020. This is much faster than other occupations. Paramedics earn more money than basic EMTs. Your salary is commensurate with the level of education and experience you have. As you gain more in both knowledge and training, you can expect your pay to also increase.

Easy of Entry: In order to become a paramedic, it is not required that you go to college. In most cases, you simply need to be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma. After that, you have a number of options as to how you obtain your formal training in order to become eligible to sit for and pass the state administered paramedic exam.

Now, let’s look at some of the cons of deciding to pursue a career as a paramedic.

Lack of Sleep: As a paramedic, you may be required to work long hours. As a result, you may end up working a shift where you are on the clock for 24 hours, and then off for 48 hours. Chances are, you’re going to end up needing to be awake for those full 24 hours too because you might not always get the opportunity to sleep through the night.

Not So Nice Patients: Let’s face it, as a paramedic you are more than likely going to come into contact with people who are not having the greatest day. Patients and their family members, as a result of being involved in an emergency situation, might speak to you in language that is offensive and/or rude. In extreme situations, you may even be the target of someone’s attempt to assault you, all because of the stress that an emergency situation can cause.

Risk for Work Related Injuries and Illnesses: As a result of all of the bending, lifting, and kneeling that you’ll be frequently doing, you are at risk for suffering from a work-related injury and/or illness. You may be spit on or come into contact with a patient’s vomit. As an advanced EMT, you might come into contact with persons who are infected with diseases like hepatitis-B or AIDS.

Shingles Causes Symptoms Information With Treatment

Shingles also known as herpes zoster is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. Shingles is a disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus the same virus that causes chickenpox . After you have chickenpox (usually as a child), the virus that causes it stays in your body in certain nerve cells. Most of the time your immune system keeps the chickenpox virus in these cells. As you get older, or if your immune system gets weak, the chickenpox virus may escape from the nerve cells and cause shingles. In most cases, however, a cause for the reactivation of the virus is never found. The herpes virus that causes shingles and chicken pox is not the same as the herpes virus that causes genital herpes (which can be transmitted) and herpes mouth sores. Shingles is medically termed Herpes zoster. Early signs of shingles include burning or shooting pain and tingling or itching, usually on one side of the body or face. The pain can be mild to severe. Blisters then form and last from one to 14 days. If shingles appears on your face, it may affect your vision or hearing. The pain of shingles may last for weeks, months or even years after the blisters have healed. Although it is most common in people over age 50, if you have had chickenpox, you are at risk for developing shingles. Shingles is also more common in people with weakened immune systems from HIV infection, chemotherapy or radiation treatment, transplant operations, and stress.

Shingles is another name for a condition called “herpes zoster.” Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a disease that affects an estimated 2 in every 10 people in their lifetime. This year, more than 500,000 people will develop shingles. It is correctly known as herpes zoster. Chickenpox or varicella is the primary infection with the virus, Herpes zoster , also called ‘varicella-zoster’. During this widespread infection, which usually occurs in childhood, virus is seeded to nerve cells in the spinal cord, usually of nerves that supply sensation to the skin. The virus remains in a resting phase in these nerve cells for years before it is reactivated and grows down the nerves to the skin to produce shingles (zoster). This can occur in childhood but is much more common in adults, especially the elderly. Shingles patients are infectious both from virus in the lesions and in some instances the nose and throat.

Causes of Shingles

Varicella zoster virus, the same virus that causes chicken pox, causes shingles. This virus is in the herpes family. After a person has had chickenpox the virus remains in their body, lying dormant or hidden in part of the nervous system. For some reason, often many years later, the virus travels back down one of the nerves to the skin, where it causes a rash in the area of skin supplied by that nerve. It’s not clear what triggers reactivation of the chickenpox virus but it may be linked to changes in the immune system. Ensuring your immune system is not weakened may help to prevent this occurring.

Upset stomach.

Treatment for Shingles

Shingles is often treated with acyclovir (brand name: Zovirax), famciclovir (brand name: Famvir) or valacyclovir (brand name: Valtrex). Acyclovir is available in a generic form, but the pills must be taken five times a day, whereas valacyclovir and famcyclovir pills are taken three times a day. It is important not to miss any doses and not to stop taking the medication early. Antiviral drugs can reduce by about half the risk of being left with postherpetic neuralgia which is chronic pain that can last for months or years after the shingles rash clears. Doctors recommend starting antiviral drugs at the first sign of the shingles rash, or even if the telltale symptoms indicate that a rash is about to erupt. Even if a patient is not seen by a doctor at the beginning of the illness, it may still be useful to start antiviral medications if new lesions are still forming.

Treatment may include:

Acyclovir has been used for many years as a treatment for shingles. It is effective for people with HIV . Intravenous acyclovir is used to treat serious outbreaks of shingles.

Famciclovir is one of the newest drugs to treat shingles. Famciclovir is actually the pill form of a topical cream called penciclovir

Calamine lotion may help to soothe the rash.

The pain of shingles may be relieved by painkillers such as paracetamol .

Valacyclovir is a “pro-drug” of acyclovir. Unlike acyclovir, valacyclovir needs to be broken down by the body before its active ingredient-acyclovir-can begin controlling the disease.

Symptoms of Tapeworm in Dogs

Tapeworms are a segmented flatworm that consists of a body, a head and a neck. New segments are always being formed within the neck region and as they mature, they dry up and break off of the end of the body.

The cycle starts when flea larvae eat animal feces that contain parasite eggs. The eggs then hatch inside of the flea’s body subsequently carrying them on to the host animal, the dog. Dogs chew and scratch at their fleas and inevitably swallow a few here and there. The fleas travel down into the animal’s intestines where they begin to grow into fully adult sized tapeworms which can measure up to twenty inches in length. While a tapeworm has no digestive system of it’s own, it attaches itself to the lining of the intestines and absorbs the nutrients the dog ingests. Thus beginning the cyclical pattern of the tapeworm begins. Keep in mind, though, that the parts that aren’t breaking off and passing though are still inside of your dog and can live upwards of two years.

Once parts of the tapeworm have passed through the dog’s body by way of his feces, the pattern starts again. Some of the dried matter will remain on the dog’s behind resembling dry rice or even grass seeds. Your dog will lick and chew and ultimately scoot across the floor in an attempt to relieve the irritation. With that said, all dogs scoot across the floor from time to time but a dog with a tapeworm infestation will not stop. It makes them that crazy. Tapeworm in dogs is easily diagnosed at this point.

Loss of weight- the tapeworms are absorbing all viable nutrients so it will seem your dog is more hungry and consuming more food than usual but still losing weight.

Loss of appetite- as the tapeworm grows in length, your dog will not eat as much less often.

Abdominal pain- the dog will glance, lick or bite at his abdomen and have a general feeling of lethargy and not want to get out of bed. They may also stand bent or sort of hunched over with their heads bowed as if in prayer and may whine or howl to alert you to the discomfort.

Vomiting or diarrhea- your dog eat grass to induce vomiting but signs of diarrhea may be a little more subtle. This combination will dehydrate the animal so if you notice these changes, try and get him to drink lots of water.

Nervousness or jumpiness. The dog will act overly paranoid and be rather skittish in the company of others. You may notice him panting, growling or pacing more than usual and any loud noises will set them over the edge.

With that said, some dog breeds have a higher pain threshold than others. You may want to monitor the situation very closely if you notice any one of the symptoms and try to catch any of the other symptoms for proper diagnosis and treatment.

The veterinarian will ask you for a stool sample from your dog and will look for the moving segments of the tapeworm within the sample. The animal may be experiencing abdominal discomfort or have a nervous stomach, he may even vomit. Combined with the constant scooting, these are all signs that your animal is infected. The doctor will give you medicine to treat it and once you know which kind to buy, the purchase can be made online. Most tapeworm medicines have very few side effects if any at all so that shouldn’t be a big concern.

The best thing you can do is find a good flea and lice control. Give a really good scrub down of your dog’s bedding and also your carpets. Fleas and the dried segments of the tapeworm can get down into the fibers of the carpets so just vacuuming them will not do the trick. Also, don’t feed your animal any kind of raw meat because the parasite can host off of wild animals as well. At this point, the only way to kill the parasite is to freeze it or cook it. Although very rare, the tapeworm can also host off of such farm animals as sheep and cows. So if you live in a rural area, that will be something to keep in mind also. The affects of Tapeworm in dogs are subtle and can be easily missed so if this is an ongoing issue just be sure to keep a close eye on him.
