Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an emotional illness that develops as a result of a terribly frightening, life-threatening or otherwise highly unsafe experience. Common symptoms include a recurrent, re-experiencing of the trauma; avoidance tendencies; extremely sensitive reactions to normal day-to-day experiences; personality disorders; negative social and emotional development; multiple somatic problems; and a troubled sexual life. A pre-existing emotional disorder, lack of support from family and friends, young age, female sex and learning disabilities, are risk factors for developing PTSD after a traumatic event.

Psychotherapy, cognitive and behavioral therapy, individual and family counseling, and medications constitute the management of PTSD. Ayurvedic medicines are used to treat fear, anxiety and stress. These include Brahmi-Vati, Saraswatarishta, Arjunarishta, Dashmoolarishta, Abhrak-Bhasma, Suvarna-Bhasma and Bruhat-Vat-Chintamani. Herbal medicines which can be used in this condition include Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Jatamansi (Nardostachys jatamansi), Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus pluricaulis), Vacha (Acorus calamus), Mandukparni (Centella asiatica), Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina), Khurasani ova (Hyoscyamus niger), Jaiphal (Myristica fragrans) and Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera). Medicines like Suvarna-Malini-Vasant, Laxmi-Vilas-Ras, Maha-Laxmi-Vilas-Ras and Makar-Dhwaj -Ras are used to reinforce the ‘Oj’ of the body.

Several Panchkarma procedures can be used judiciously to help people affected with PTSD. A daily massage of the entire body using medicines like Mahanarayan oil, Mahamash oil and Maha-Sahachar oil helps in inducing relaxation and getting good sleep. Procedures like ‘Shirodhara’ and ‘Shirobasti’ have a good sedating effect. Repeated courses of medicated enemas using Vishgarbha oil or Maha Sahachar oil help in controlling the ‘Vat’ dosha; thereby reducing irritability, anxiety and emotional outbursts. Medicated nasal drops using Vacha oil, Anu oil, Panchendriya-Vardhan oil and liquid extracts of Shigru (Moringa oleifera) or Vishwa (Zinziber officinalis) are effective in stimulating the mind and brain; thereby helping to cope up with life.

People affected with PTSD should adopt positive lifestyle practices like regular exercise, eating a healthy diet and following a busy, regular schedule. Relaxation techniques, yogic asanas and pranayam can also help considerably. At the same time, it is also important to avoid negative lifestyle practices like substances abuse, social isolation, over-work and self-destructive behaviors.

Fatal Familial Insomnia, A Death Sentence?

Sometimes we all feel down and depressed. But just realizing there are people in this world that are worse off than us always makes us count our blessings.

So next time you’re tossing and turning and wishing for sleep, tune in to this story. It’ll make you realize how lucky you are.

No matter how bad our sleeping problems cause us to feel, there are ways to overcome them. It can be as simple as reducing the stress in our lives or as complicated as needing several visits to a sleep clinic. You may have heard the saying, “Nobody ever died from lack of sleep”. However that’s simply not true…

Fatal Familial Insomnia, or FFI, is a rare genetic disease that runs in families. Those unfortunate enough to develop this disease have between seven months to three years left to live – if that’s what you can call it. There’s no relief and no cure.

Symptoms of fatal familial insomnia.

The age that FFI strikes can be as early as thirty, though between forty to sixty is more common. The first symptoms are frequent bouts of insomnia and fatigue, although these usually go unrecognised. Some sufferers experience phobias or panic attacks due to the lack of deep sleep. This is the first stage of this dreadful disease.

Fatal familial insomnia then takes it’s victims through worsening panic attacks and strange phobias. Sufferers are caught in the hinterland between sleep and wakefulness. Because the brain is deprived of sleep, hallucinations develop and bodily functions can start to break down. Sleep medications just make the symptoms worse.

From then on it’s a constant decline of both physical and mental health. The victims lose a lot of body weight and also loose the ability to communicate. In the final stage sufferers cannot speak or walk and experience incontinence. Finally they lapse into a coma and die.

Although FFI has been around for many generations, it’s only recently been recognised, previously diagnosed as mental illness. The only hope of a cure depends on gene therapy, a new therapy which has yet to prove itself.

The theory is locating a faulty gene which leads to the development of FFI and replacing it with a normal gene. Although this seems fairly cut & dried, the normal gene hasn’t yet been isolated.

In order for gene therapy to work, people who are at risk need to be tested before they reach childbearing age to avoid FFI being passed on to the next generation. A cure therefore rests on not just the identification of the genes, but the willingness of likely victims to come forward for testing.

Research marches on in the hope of finding a cure. Benefits may also involve those suffering from Creutzfeldt-Jacob (mad cow) and other similar genetic diseases.

Many thanks must go to the family members, both alive or dead, for their willingness to participate in the research into FFI to help others avoid the suffering they themselves had to experience. Their courage hopefully will lead the way to a cure in the not too distant future.

Nervous, Mental or Emotional Breakdown

The Soul of Soulwork is integrity – a joyful expression of life that brings insight and understanding. Do you want to coach people to untangle difficult relationships and find emotional maturity.

What happens in a Mental Breakdown?

A nervous, mental or emotional breakdown may include a temporary collapse or disintegration of personality. This may involve an inability to function, depression, loss of contact with reality, manic episodes, anxiety and / or panic attacks.

A nervous breakdown can be disturbing, disorienting and frightening. It may come suddenly or last for several years. Depression, confusion or anxiety may accompany a feeling that you are out of control.

Nervous, mental or emotional breakdowns are lay terms. Nerves and emotions don’t break down; these terms imply an emotional or mental collapse or a feeling of approaching collapse. These terms often refer to people who tried to hide unpleasant emotions, and finally let them out.

Warning Signs of Nervous Breakdown

Some warning signs can alert you that someone might be experiencing an emotional or relationship crisis. That person may need immediate help or attention.

a person cannot cope with daily chores and responsibilities

a person’s words make no sense (word salad)

a person threatens or tries to harm someone

a person threatens or tries to harm self

a person seems to see, hear, smell, taste, or feel things that do not exist

a person becomes destructive to possessions, home and relationships

If you see any of these signs, perhaps call a crisis help line or other source for help and information. Many cities have a suicide hotline or crisis hotline. In smaller towns, a hospital or medical center may help you decide how serious the signs are, and what you can do to help.

Stress & Emotional Breakdowns

Anxiety, stress and depression can occur when we suppress spontaneous reactions. They may occur when you feel that we have no choices. Under lasting stress you may feel on the edge of a nervous breakdown.

You may want to react to stressful situations by either getting away from the situation or fighting back. You cannot always do this. If you cannot run away or fight back, you might force yourself to stay. Your stress builds up.

The same thing might happen at home, or in your close relationships. You can change your relationships or learn to cope with stress. Either can keep you from feeling overwhelmed.

You can eat healthier. You can exercise for about half hour at least 3 times a week. You can get enough sleep. You can avoid alcohol and illegal drugs. You can take a vacation. You can learn how to relax. You can build and enjoy better relationships.

Coping with stress means learning how to communicate better. Reading about or taking classes in communication may help. Systemic coaching can help you recognize and change long-term relationship habits and complex relationship problems.

Personalities that Break Down

People who do break down often seem to be either people pleasing and/or super-responsible. A People Pleaser may focus on being nice and not offending anyone. A super-responsible person may be seen as a control-freak, a perfectionist or workaholic. There are better solutions … systemic solutions.

Rebuilding Identity in Chaos

When a personality mask finally breaks down, a healthier identity can emerge. This emergence can be painful and haphazard during stress, or gently self-controlled during chaos coaching.

Lasting Solutions for Anxiety, Stress and Depression

What causes breakdowns?

Do illnesses cause breakdowns? Perhaps sometimes, although few people who become ill experience mental breakdown.

Do traumatic experiences cause breakdowns? Perhaps sometimes, although few people break down in trauma, even those who suffer extreme trauma.

Do genetic factors cause break downs? Rather than genetics, behavior copied from suffering family members is the only known link to inherited disposition to stressful illness.

Do depleted levels of neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) cause breakdowns? Perhaps, although low levels of neurotransmitters are more likely a symptom than a cause of breakdowns.

Neurotransmitters are brain chemicals which help regulate moods. To boost these levels, you can change your behavior or take drugs. The easier route (and much more profitable for health professionals) is that you take prescription medication – and support a $12 billion drug industry.

About 70% of people who take antidepressants will experience mental breakdown if they stop taking the drugs. Antidepressants treat a symptom – low levels of neurotransmitters in your brain.

What is the root cause of mental breakdown? The main difference between people who experience a breakdown and those who don’t may be the unpleasant emotions resulting from poor relationships.

To control anxiety, stress and depression, why not learn from people who don’t become anxious, depressed or stressed? Such people very often enjoy satisfying relationships. Get systemic coaching.

Consult a physician about any opinions about nervous or other breakdowns, or other medical symptoms or other medical conditions.

Be Confident, Smart and Absolutely Charming – Getting Rid of Your Fear of Rejection

Few things hurt more in the world than rejection. People usually go through weeks of depression over big-time rejection. It could have been by someone that we wanted a romantic relationship or friendship with, the company we always wanted to be a part of, the school we’ve wanted to go to since we were young-all of these can be reasons for you to feel all the sorrow that’s lately been plaguing your days. A lot of us wouldn’t attempt something similar for fear of another, equally heartbreaking rejection. And who can blame them? Having something we always wanted crash and burn on the ground is really a painful thing, and sometimes you feel ashamed as much as you feel sad. But should that stop you from taking a stab at opportunities that come your way? Of course not!

This phobia can cause you to miss out on the best opportunities in your life. And when you feel that this is hurting your interests in a bad way, you should learn ways to get over it. Here are a few that may just change your life for the better:

Being independent really works for boosting confidence. Having a lot of close friends is great, but relying on them too much for achieving great things can hamper your development. So always remember to create that private corner for yourself where you can develop to your fullest potential. It will not only make you a more complete person, but it will also help you stand on your two feet.

Taking baby steps in losing that fear of rejection is also good because drastic changes like that aren’t really supposed to be rushed. Try to make a list out of your fears, especially the people you fear rejection from. And after that, write down records of your past rejections and how you reacted to them. Looking at things analytically can really help you solve a lot of problems, this included. Thinking up better alternative responses is a great way to go when you want to improve your life.

A lot of people fear rejection because they are expecting too much in return. Instead, learn not to expect and just be yourself, whatever the consequences of your actions may be. Focus on achievable goals and not things that are completely out of your hands. Immersing yourself in situations like this immunizes you from fear of rejection.

Benefits of Trimming Pet’s Nails

Do you hear a click-click-clicking when your pet is trotting down the hallway toward you? If so, your little – or not so little – pet is in serious need of a nail trimming. Many pet owners don’t realize the importance of regular nail trimming to their pet’s health. If you’ve been shaking your head over the television ads for the latest pet-care craze, the Pedi Paws, you might be surprised to learn just how important it is to keep your dog, cat or other pet’s nails carefully trimmed.

Why your dog needs regular nail trims

That clicking you hear when your pup walks across the tile or wood floor could be doing far more damage than you think, and not only to your gorgeous floors. Neglecting your pet’s nails can have some unexpected serious consequences for your dog. The dog injuries that result from untrimmed nails range from torn nails to arthritis.

A dog’s nails curve as they grow out. If they’re not trimmed, they’ll eventually curl under the foot where they can dig into sensitive paw pads and cause pain. Dew claws are even more prone to this kind of curling and growing in. If you’ve ever had an ingrown toenail, you can imagine how painful that is for your poor pup.

Even worse, dogs actually walk on their toes. When their nails dig painfully into their paw pads, they tend to compensate for the difficulty walking by resting their weight further back on the paw. That awkward gait puts stress and strain on all the other muscles and joints. Just as wearing the wrong shoes can result in backaches and sore knees in humans, trying to walk with uncomfortably long nails can cause joint pain and discomfort for your dog. In the worst case scenario, it can contribute to the development of arthritis and other joint problems.

In addition, long nails are more likely to be torn or injured by impact or by catching in carpets, sweaters or upholstery. When that happens, the outer enamel of the nail can tear away and expose the inner tissue, called the quick. The quick is a fleshy bit of nerve and tissue that grows outward from the bone and is surrounded by the keratin that forms the claw and nail. The quick inside is easily injured, and when it’s deprived of its protective keratin, it’s prone to infection that can travel into the dog’s foot and blood. Regular trimming reduces the chance of injury and infection.

Your cat needs regular nail trimming, too

Like dogs, cats have claws that grow in a curve and can curl under their paw pads if they’re left untrimmed. Trimming a cat’s claws offers extra benefits, though. Cats are notorious for destroying furniture by using the upholstery as a scratching post. Scratching is an instinctive behavior, and while most people think the intent is to sharpen the claws, there’s another reason that cats scratch your furniture. They have scent pads in their feet, and scratching is a way to mark their territory.

Because the scratching is so destructive, many owners of indoor cats used to choose to de-claw their kittens. The practice has been falling out of favor in recent years, though, because it leaves the cat defenseless if it happens to get outside. It’s actually illegal in many European countries, and there is a push to make it illegal in the United States.

Trimming your kitten’s claws is one far easier solution to the scratching problem. When you keep your cat’s claws trimmed short, it actually reduces the urge for them to claw furniture. Removing the sharp point also allows the cat to “scratch” without destroying furniture and upholstery. In addition, keeping the claws trimmed reduces the chance that your cat will catch a claw in the screen or upholstery and injure itself trying to get away.

Rabbits, birds and small animals also need nail trimming

Few people think of birds and nail trimming in the same breath, but many birds can be handicapped if their nails are allowed to grow too long. Birds use their claws for perching. When the nails are allowed to grow long and gnarled, it interferes with their ability to perch safely. In addition, long nails can easily catch in carpeting and clothing, with the risk of injuring the nail or the toe when trying to pull away.

Rabbits, guinea pigs and other exotic small pets also need regular mail trimming to prevent injuries both to themselves and their owners.

No matter what kind of pets you own, you have two choices when it comes to trimming their nails. The first is to have it done professionally by your veterinarian or pet groomer. Depending on the part of the country in which you live, that will cost you $8 to $15 every few weeks. Your other choice is to trim your pet’s nails at home. There are a number of tools on the market that can help you trim your pet’s nails easily at home. The newest pet grooming tool on the market is the Pedi Paws pet nail trimmer, which makes trimming pets’ nails easy and painless for both pet and owner.Do you hear a click-click-clicking when your pet is trotting down the hallway toward you? The Room of 1000 Demons – Lessons From a Tibetan Monk on Controlling Anxiety and Fear

In Tibetan monasteries every five years the ‘Room of 1000 Demons’ is made available to the monks in training. In order to gain enlightenment (nirvana), all they have to do is to walk into the room and out the other side. However, once in the room, the entrance door cannot be opened from the inside and they have to walk across the room and leave it by the exit door.

The problem is that inside the room are 1000 demons, each of whom know what your worse fear is. For example, if you hate spiders, once in the room you’ll find yourself among 1000 of the worst kind of spiders imaginable.

Once this is explained to them, most of the monks decide not to go through this process. They are bid farewell by the elders and advised to go back to the monastery to study some more and in another five years they will have the opportunity to go through the room.

To the monks who are left, and admittedly it is a small number, the elders congratulate them for their courage and are taken to one side. The chief monk advises them as follows:

“You know that to achieve everything you have studied and meditated for you must go through the Room of 1000 Demons. You have been told why the room is so called. I congratulate you for your courage and suggest that you keep two things in mind once the door closes behind you in the room:

(1) None of the demons are real,

and,

(2) Keep moving your feet.”

Bed Bug Treatment: Two Ways to Kill Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are known as one of the most hated household pests. They can cause much discomfort including insomnia, psychological problems and allergic reactions.

Their cryptic habits and ability to hide in cracks and crevices make it extremely difficult to kill them. No single treatment can kill bed bugs. You need a range of treatments to kill bed bugs two of which are cold treatment and fumigation.

The insect cannot withstand extreme temperatures. Studies have shown that the pest die within 30 minutes of being exposed to temperature at -17°C (1.4°F) – the freezing point for the insect.

There are 3 freezing techniques: cold freezer, a naturally cold environment and frozen CO2. In each case, the temperature must be at least -17°C. If your home freezer can reach this temperature it is a good way to kill bed bugs on fabric sensitive to extreme heat.

Wrap the object into a sheet, towel or other types of absorbent material that collects condensation. Place the wrapped object into a plastic bag, extract the air from the bag and seal it tightly.

Place the object into the freezer for at least 2 weeks. Avoid defrosting freezers because they are very dry and don’t maintain steady temperature in their cycle. Do not freeze objects made of layers of paintings, lacquer ware, ivory or photograph. Objects consisting of one material such as wool or wood are ideal.

Cryonite

Cryonite is the main CO2 product in the market designed to kill bed bugs. Cryonite freezes the fluid in the insect’s cells and cause instant death. The cells crystallise when the insect cools to -20 °C to -30 °C. The snow is -78.8°C (110°F). CO2 snow evaporates and becomes CO2 gas when it hits surfaces at normal temperature.

Cryonite is available to rent or purchase. You don’t need a license to operate it.

Benefits

a. It freezes the pests in hard-to-reach areas such as cracks and crevices.

b. It kills bed bugs quickly.

c. It kills the insect at all stages in the life cycle.

d. It leaves no messy residues and it requires no drying time.

e. It can be used on any surface. The cold does not penetrate the material.

f. CO2 in Cryonite is non-toxic.

g. It flushes the insects from the harbourage and makes them easy target for the vacuum’s nozzle.

h. Infested items that cannot handle extreme heat and is not sensitive to moisture are perfect to treat with Cryonite.

i. Deep freezing is a quick DIY treatment.

j. Freezing with Cryonite takes a short time to kill bed bugs.

Drawbacks

a. Freezing has no residual effect.

b. The pests can re-infest.

Health and safety issues

Read the instructions carefully before using the Cryonite unit. Be very careful with the snow. It can reach temperature of -110°F. This can burn the skin.

Fumigation

In extremely severe infestation, fumigation is the best bed bug treatment. This bed bug treatment kills the pests at all stages in the life cycle. Fumigation gases remains in the air and are easily spread over a wide area.

Ethylene oxide (ETO), a gaseous fumigant used in libraries in the 1980s, cause serious health problems to workers. Studies have shown that ETO can alter the physical and chemical properties of paper, parchment and leather.

Residual ETO remains in untreated material that causes off-gassing toxins. Lethal fumigants include methyl bromide, sulphur dioxide, propylene oxide, sulfuryl flouride and aluminum phosphide. Asphyxiants such as carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen are classified as fumigants.

There is heavy reliance on fumigation treatment, especially in severe infestation since the insects are developing resistance to household pesticides.

Benefits

a. Kills bed bugs at all stages in the life cycle.

b. Can be applied to the whole room.

c. It is the ideal treatment for severe infestation.

Drawbacks

a. It has no residual effect.

b. It is the most toxic of all pesticides.

c. The pests can re-infest after the treatment subsides.

This treatment is very expensive and you need to hire special equipment to fumigate a whole room. However, when the treatment is done properly it is guaranteed that all the insects in the infested area will die.

Toe Nail Fungus – Causes and Treatment

Onychomycosis (on-i-ko-mi-KO-sis) or nail fungal infection, is the most common disease of the nails and makes up about half of all nail abnormalities. It affects toenails primarily but it can also affect fingernails as well.

Nail fungus is an annoying, potentially painful, and unsightly problem that affects 6-8% of the adult population.

Symptoms and Description

An infection of nail fungus can start out as a white or yellow spot under the tip of the fingernail or toenail. As the fungus spreads deeper into the nail, it may cause the nail to discolor, thicken and get crumbly and brittle on the edges.

There are different classifications of nail fungus that depend on the particular type of fungus and how it manifests itself, which means the signs and symptoms may vary slightly. However, onychomycosis can usually be recognized if one or more of your nails are:

  • Dull
  • Thickened
  • Brittle, crumbly or ragged
  • Distorted in shape
  • A dark color caused by debris building up under your nail

Infected nails may also separate from the nail bed, this is called onycholysis. If this occurs your fingertips and toes may feel pain and you may smell a slightly foul odor. Generally onychomycosis causes no pain or other bodily symptoms, unless the disease is severe.  It is advisable to see your doctor at the first sign of nail fungus.

Causes of Nail Fungus

Fungi are microscopic organisms that do not require sunlight to survive. Some are beneficial but others cause illness and infections like onychomycosis. Fungi live in warm, moist places and can enter your skin through tiny cuts or in the space between your nail and nail bed.

Fungi cause problems when the nails are consistently exposed to a warm and moist environment that the fungi can thrive in and spread.

Nail fungus infections are most commonly caused by a fungus that belongs to a group of fungi called dermatophytes which typically affects those in temperate western countries. Candida and other non-dermatophytic molds are usually the cause of infections in the tropics and subtropics where it is hot and humid.

Because toenails are often confined inside shoes and socks where it is dark, warm and moist; they are usually where the infections occur. Toes are more likely to have a diminishing blood circulation than fingernails which means it’s harder for your body’s immune system to deal with the infection.

Risk Factors

Aging is unfortunately the most common risk factor for nail fungus for several reasons. One being the diminished blood circulation. Another simply being more years of exposure to the fungi and, in addition, aging nails grow slower and thicken naturally making them more susceptible to the infection.

Other things that can increase your risk of getting onychomycosis are:

  • Heavy sweating
  • Activities in humid or moist environments
  • Wearing socks or shoes with poor ventilation that don’t absorb sweat
  • Walking barefoot in damp public places, like shower rooms, gyms, or swimming pools
  • Having athlete’s foot (tinea pedis)
  • Having the skin condition psoriasis
  • Having a minor skin or nail injury, damaged nail, or another infection
  • Having diabetes, circulation problems or a poor immune system

If severe enough nail fungus can be painful and cause irreversible damage to your nails.  In more serious cases, it can lead to other infections that can spread beyond your feet if you have a suppressed immune system due to medication, diabetes or other conditions.

Toe Fungus Treatments

With the right toe fungus treatment, you should be able to get rid of a nail infection caused by fungus, even if it is an extreme case or you’ve had it for years. It can take months to clear up though so you may have to be patient.

Nail fungus can be difficult to treat, and repeat infections are common. It is helpful to keep your feet clean and dry.

It is best to have your doctor examine your nails first. The doctor will test for fungi and examine it to find out the cause of the infection. Knowing the cause of onychomycosis helps determine the best course for treatment.

To treat nail fungus a doctor may advise an oral antifungal medication. Studies have shown the most effective of these treatments to be terbinafine (Lamisil) and itraconazole (Sporanox).

These medications help a new nail grow free of infection and slowly replace the infected part of the nail. Typically you would take these medications for 6-12 weeks. The results of the treatment won’t be seen until the nail grows back completely. It may takes 4 months or longer to eliminate and infection.

Anti-fungal drugs can cause side-effects like skin rashes or even liver damage. Doctors may not recommend them for people with liver disease or congestive heart failure or if they are already taking certain medications.

If you have a mild or moderate infection of nail fungus it may be beneficial to get an anti-fungal lacquer treatment. These may also take time with daily applications but can also be very effective. Here are a 3 natural toe fungus treatments that have been ranked as per effectiveness:

 1)     Zetaclear

2)      Funginix

3)      Nail Rx

If the right toe fungus treatment is chosen and applied correctly you should be able to be rid a nail fungal infection in just a few months with ease.

Waxing Hair Removal Infections

If you are considering having a waxing treatment then the last thought you’ll probably think about is getting an infection. It is not uncommon to feel some irritation or discomfort during and after the treatment, but what else can go wrong?

One story that you may want to read before you go ahead is that of a lady in New York City who visited a waxing hair removal salon. After having the wax treatment, the woman happened to experience a fever. But that’s not all. She also felt pain and chills. She felt them in her left thigh. At the beginning, she simply thought that she might have caught a cold. Yet, after 5 days without getting any better, she consulted a doctor.

The doctor’s diagnosis was shocking. She was informed that she had cellulitis. Cellulitis is an infection caused by bacteria in the skin as well as its underlying tissue. One of the doctors stated that she could have lost the use of her legs!

Once diagnosed, she had to stay in the hospital for a fortnight. It took her months to recover both physically and emotionally. It turned out that the woman was not the only one who had to go to the hospital after undergoing such a waxing treatment. 2 other women in New Jersey also had the same experience. These women had to go to hospital after undergoing a Brazilian wax treatment. The worst case happened when a woman, who suffered from diabetes type 1, nearly died due to the bacterial infection after the waxing.

Waxing can be a risky business at times since when the wax if removed it pulls away dead skin and can cause tiny abrasions and tears. It is these tiny access points that let bacteria in. Waxing can also be used to remove pubic hair which helps to protect sensitive and easily infected areas.

The most problematic scenario arises when waxing creates inflammation of the skin and this leads to trapping the bacteria beneath the skin. Nevertheless, all these things do not necessarily mean that there is no way to avoid them.

While undergoing a waxing hair removal treatment, patients should keep in mind the following:

  • Choose the facility to undergo a waxing treatment carefully. Go and visit the location to make sure it is clean and hygienic and that the aesthetician has a license.
  • Speak to the specialist about the different waxes that can be used and which might be right for you. A hard wax may be more gentle and adhere well to the skin, while other waxes can be sticky and cause a lot of discomfort to the treated person.
  • Pay attention to the hygiene of the aesthetician’s hands. You should make sure they clean their hands regularly, use gloves and sterilized equipment.
  • A topical antibiotic cream should be applied for several days after wax treatment to prevent irritation.
  • Patients should also check periodically to see whether they develop rashes, have experienced tiny cuts or tears, have inflamed ingrown hairs after a waxing hair removal session. Any of these can result in infection if not careful.

Natural Remedies To Treat Your Own Yeast Infection & Relieving an Itchy Red Swollen Vagina

If a woman is diagnosed with having a yeast infection, her concerns may not be directly connected to the infection itself due to her knowing that vaginal infections are treatable. It is the body part that the infection troubles that she might have the issue with like being “embarrassed.” Yeast infections are treated on a daily basis on women from around the globe regardless of skin colour. If you know what a vaginal yeast infection is, then you’ll know it`s not a life threatening condition but if you have no knowledge on the matter then it is good for you to get a better understanding. Doing this may help you accept the reason why it is happened and more importantly how to prevent it.

A yeast infection, also known as candidiasis is an infection caused by yeast called candida albicans (fungus) which love clammy body parts, such as the mouth and other moist areas. If a vaginal infection has occurred from this then it is known as vulvovaginal candidiasis. Yes it is a rather long word to remember let alone try to pronounce but don`t worry; your doctor will know what you mean after you explain your symptoms. Candida can outnumber for many reasons i.e. stress, pregnancy, and sicknesses that affect the immune system.

Although antibiotics are a powerful curing agent they can however destroy the “good” bacteria that naturally live in the human body. Good bacteria are a vital element in helping keep growth of candida in the vagina under control. Yeast flourish greatly if a young girl`s blood sugar is high. Before the start of periods (menstruation) is when we recognize this condition to happen in young girl`s due to hormonal changes. Material tightness around the genitals can give rise for a yeast infection. Douching and particular scented bathroom products can upset the natural balance of bacteria in the vagina and make yeast infections more likely. Some women believe it necessary to use perfumed products on their vagina, well stop believing because the vagina would be a far healthier organ without feminine sweetness. Never douche unless under GP orders. Use specially created soaps/cream-washes for bathing the vagina. Speak to the counter assistant in the chemist on the best products purposely devised not to irritate or cause vaginal infections.

What to look out for if you have yeast infection:

itchy vagina

irritation in the vagina

redness and swelling,

itchy vulva

white discharge thick in consistency and appearing clotted with a yeasty smell,

pain/burning when urinating or during sexual intercourse

Discharge is an obvious sign of a yeast infection, and usually one of the first symptoms to show. Not everyone gets the discharge. If there is itching in and outside the vagina then you can tell from this. Each individual differs, and due to these differences symptoms can differ also, in terms of type and intensity. A man infected sees the head of his penis affected. The male infection is also seen as caused by the same candida (Balanitis.) Balanitis symptoms, redness, sore or itchy penis tip and sometimes discharge.

Help prevent yeast infections.

Yeast develops in a clammy, moist milieu. Keep genital area dry and airy. Give genital site room to breathe. If possible go without underwear when you can. Clothing items to avoid are tight jeans, Lycra, nylon knickers, tights, and other synthetic materials that lock in moisture. Do this and you help reduce yeast infections occurring. Scented soaps, bubble baths/lotions, and just in general washing detergents can be accountable for irritation which then gives way for yeast infections. Wear loose breathable fabrics that allow you, not only space, but contribute to airing the vagina. Wear all-cotton panties. Keep the vagina/anus dry and free from sweat. If you feel the vaginal area moistening up then bathe, dry and air. Remove wet bathing costumes or trunks as soon as. If you feel restriction on movement while wearing items as such then this tells you they are not ideal. Do you need to see a doctor? Yes it makes sense. What you might believe to be a yeast infection may not be. It is due to much confusion that women have as many vaginal problems like they do. They tend to treat their ailments with inappropriate vaginal creams which are unhealthy and dangerous.

Have your GP determine your condition, since other vaginal infections are akin in symptoms but require different medications. You may be asked to bring along to your appointment a sample of urine – to rule out a urinary tract infection. A smidgen of vaginal discharge maybe requested for tests. If you have been diagnosed with a yeast infection your prescription may include oral medication (tablets) or a vaginal cream or suppository. Whatever the medicine follow all instructions accordingly. A suppository will come with an applicator to assist you with vaginal insertion. If you find this uncomfortable do speak with a nurse at the clinic. A yeast infection nearly always clears up with prescriptive drugs and normally as quick as in 7 days. Some women prefer using vaginal cream than other for relieving their vaginal itch.

Both non-prescription and prescription medications are 90% effective regardless of time scale. A short time course of treatment will not make a slightest bit of difference to that of taking a long time course. Shorter treatments contain higher doses of healing ingredients while longer treatments contain less. The people we spoke of earlier whose worry lie with the embarrassment thing will more times look to find a home remedy for a cure in hope to avoid a doctor`s appointment. If you be one of these people who blush easily and is looking to treat your own yeast infection, then make sure you know what you are doing?

Have you ever heard of “Reishi,” it is a homemade solution concocted up from a medicinal mushroom and widely used in Japan as a treatment? Consult your GP before trying unfamiliar treatments and practicing unknown methods. You only need a little quantity of the mushrooms to feel them working. The good thing about Reishi is, it comes in many ways so you will find one way to suit. It can be added to tea, applied as a tincture or put in syrups, and most common in tablet form. Some people find it hard to swallow tablets so therefore these options give them choice. As we speak there has been no indication to say a patient suffering with a yeast infection has had side effects from taking Reishi, nevertheless there is always the first time for everything. Monitor yourself while medication is in progress. Another home remedy is called Osha which is effective in fighting bacteria as well as yeast cells, but more importantly for ridding the infection.

Eat yogurt, aside from helping in the vaginal quarters, it is a healthy eat. Yoghurt contains helpful bacteria (live cultures, including acidophilus and bifidus) that kill yeast. Smooth plain yogurt into the vagina using a finger. Be careful and just gently rub no harsh hand movement. Take your time and make sure you’re comfortable before you begin the procedure. Take lactobacillus/acidophilus supplements. Use according to the directions on the bottle. Never do other than suggested in the instructions as it won`t speed up the curing process and you can make matters worse. Cut down on sugar and sweet foods. Yeast growth is hurried along by sugar.

Use a garlic clove as a suppository. Garlic contains a natural anti-fungal agent. Peel a fresh clove, wrap it in gauze and insert it into the vagina. Garlic has wondrous benefits for many things. Years ago garlic was rubbed on an open wound before an operation. Call into your local herbal shop or chemist and ask to speak to the herbalist or pharmacist about gentian violet or a herbal douche.

Causes, Signs and Symptoms of Chest Muscle Strain

Chest muscle strain is experienced by numerous people today.  Although it is easy to manage and endure mild strains, a severe one can be a big problem in the performance of daily tasks.  Mild strains may sometimes to lead to even worse complications if not addressed immediately, and may even require surgery. The discomfort that one feels whenever a chest muscle strain occurs can greatly affect the person’s efforts lifestyle and work. Knowing the basic facts about this problem will greatly help you in avoiding it and seeking the right treatments should this occurs.

Chest muscle strain occurs when the muscles in the chest, as well as the tendons are affected or stressed. A strain on the chest muscles can be identified in three types. A mild strain can be experienced when the muscles are slightly pulled without tearing of muscles or tendon fibers.  Mild strain is identified by the loss of strength due to the tearing of muscles or tendons on the chest. Finally, severe chest strain is caused by the rupturing of the muscle- tendon- rib attachment due to overuse of the muscles or direct injury; this requires surgery for treatment.

Causes

The primary cause of chest muscle strain is the overuse of muscles and tendons in the chest area. This can happen if the person carries very heavy objects, performing rigorous exercises beyond one’s limits, or stress.  Another factor that can prompt strain is a violent injury or a very strong force applied in the chest area.

Signs and Symptoms

Chest muscle strain is often characterized by a pain in the body’s chest area.  Pain is also felt whenever the person attempts to move or stretch the arms; especially in a pushing movement.  Muscles spasms and loss of strength is also a common sign of a chest muscle strain. In severe cases, the strain can cause swelling around the injured area. When you hear or feel a cracking sound when you press your fingers in your chest, this means that the muscles and tendons are torn.  Using x-ray can help better identify the chest strain .

Chest massage and hot or cold compress can be used to treat strain. However, medical attention is more advisable especially in a severe chest muscle strain.

4 Reasons Why Your Dog Drinks Excessively

If your dog drinks excessively, it could be because he is suffering one of the following. Be acutely aware when they do this.

Causes:

Pain, stress, heat exhaustion(dehydration), illness(vomiting and dehydration), kidney failure or disease.

Pain and Stress

These cause an increase in heart rate and respiration which in turn causes the body temperature to rise. The dog pants to cool down and has to drink a lot to keep its mouth wet so evaporation can take place. Also a full stomach has a feeling of contentment that physiologically eases the dogs discomfort. If you cannot see an obvious reason for this take your dog to the vet A.S.A.P.

Heat Exhaustion.

You can assist your dog to cool down by bringing it into your bath and standing it in cold water, sponge the dog down especially the head, groin and armpit areas.

The skin is thin and less hair helps the blood cool faster.

The toe pads are also a heat release area. If it does not cause more stress and discomforts try to lay the dog down into the water in a ‘drop’ position, not a flank (side) position.

Keep drinking water available but restrict it in intervals so the dog does not gorge it and then vomit it back again.

You have to think for your dog. The dog is under stress and does not know any better.

Keep offering water to drink, as the dog becomes more comfortable. Also use a cooling fan on the dog. If the condition of the dog is not improving wet it down all over and ring your vet for any further advice then take to the Vet ASAP.

Do not wrap up! As it will prevent heat evaporation!

If your dog does improve allow time for it to stabilize, before taking to your vet for a check up. Always make sure where ever your dog is, that it has adequate water supply and air flow at all times. Cars are deadly for dogs in summer, they are mobile ovens even with the windows down. A shady tree is a much safer idea.

Illness

Often a dog will drink when it has Vomiting, Diarrhea, or any general gastric illness. The dog does not know when to stop and that excessive amounts are detrimental to its recovery. Veterinary attention may be needed. If the dog is vomiting and drinking you must take the water away until the vomiting ceases. If the dog becomes worse seek veterinary attention immediately. Try gradually re-introducing small amounts of water again and fast the dog from all food for 24hrs.

Feed only small bland meals after that.

Kidneys

Acute (sudden) or Chronic (gradual) kidney failure or disease can cause a change in the dogs drinking habits depending on how toxic (sick) the dog is. Sometimes they do drink excessively but also they may not drink at all. Drinking in excess will also cause an increase in urinating.

The dog also shows signs of lethargy, vomiting, dehydration, poor appetite, a rough harsh coat, bad breath and anemia.

Veterinary attention is needed. Blood tests and Urine tests, will help show up the problem. Treatment involves replacing lost body fluids and electrolytes also antibiotics, drugs to stop vomiting, anabolic steroids for recovery, weight gain and repair of the kidney damage and vitamins.

Monitoring of blood and urine levels has to be done until the dog stabilizes.

Your vet will then explain about how to care for the kidney-damaged dog. Dietary changes, medicines will help ease the strain on your dogs’ kidneys. These are avoiding meat, eggs, cheese and bones.

Prescription diets are the safest and easiest way to do this. They are available in cans from your vet. This will help prolong life, it will probably require more Veterinary treatment as the kidneys worsen. Ultimately euthanasia is the nicest option as kidney transplants are not readily available to dogs and owner finances.

Organic Chicken – Benefits to Health and Environment

The beauty of living in the countryside offers the experience of eating organic chicken, but it is also available in the cities in small quantities. Organic chickens usually just roam around to find food. People raising these chickens use rice, corn or any food available to feed them. They simply call the chickens in some distinct way and the chickens come racing as if panicking for the food. They then throw the grains or any food and each chicken picks as many as it can. When the regular meal is over, the chickens roam around and search the ground for any available food which may be plants, insects, seeds, and if the area is coastal, small fish and live small shellfish.

Organic chickens have high beneficial fats that lower cholesterol, and higher amount of Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Vitamin A. Their eggs taste much much better than those from commercially-raised chickens which receive regular dose of antibiotics, vaccines and other medications. Though it takes longer cooking time for the meat of most native chickens, its taste is incomparable with 28-day broiler confined in overcrowded poultry houses where they also release their wastes.

Native organic chickens are much smaller in size and grow much slower. While it only takes 28 days for a broiler to be harvested, native chicken usually needs at least six months. That is why, native chickens cannot be grown on commercial basis. Since the supply cannot meet the demand requirements of the chicken meat eating population, no big poultry raiser is interested in venturing into this kind of poultry raising. Organic chicken vendors usually rely on groups of small farmers for their supply and could not at this point meet the growing demand of organic chicken consumers.

For organic chicken consumers, eating organic chicken does not only provide health benefits but also better ecosystem. Chickens raised in the open catch insects that may be harmful to the plants, scavenge crop residue and help in fertilizing the soil through its organic manure. By the way, farms using chicken dung as fertilizer do not necessarily produce organic crops. Chicken dung are bought from commercial poultry farms that use chemicals and medications which are proven to be harmful to the human body.

Since most suppliers of organic chicken are small farmers, organic chicken consumers also help build the rural economy and the income potential of small farmers. Consumers also indirectly contribute to the protection and conservation of the environment because growing organic chicken does not produce air pollution that is common in poultry farms. There are also no flies to spread germs and organisms that cause diseases to the people.

Iodine

Iodine is a trace mineral meaning that while it is an important component of many bodily functions large quantities are not needed to carry out these crucial efforts. In fact, iodine is thought to be such an important mineral that the US government came up with an ingenious way to ensure Americans get an adequate supply: Legislation recommending that iodine be added into table salt was passed.

As the trace mineral iodine is ingested, 75% of this mineral makes its way to the thyroid gland. Once there, iodine joins up with two important hormones that are produced by the thyroid gland: triiodothyronine and thyroxine. Every part of the body requires these hormones. Most importantly, they play a role in the body’s ability to produce energy. These hormones control and regulate basal metabolic rates. In other words, they determine how fast and how efficiently the body is able to burn calories.

Thyroid hormones are also what helps control a child’s mental development and overall growth rate. Pregnant women who do not get enough iodine increase the risks that their newborn babies will develop some degree of mental retardation.

If you ever had a bruise or cut as a child, your parent likely applied iodine to the affected area. That’s because iodine is an effective antiseptic. In addition to helping clean and heal wounds, it will discolor the skin.

For those times when secretions build up in the lungs, iodine is used to thin them, making these secretions much easier to expel.

Individuals with iodine sensitivity may experience skin problems such as a rash or ulcers in the mucous membrane. They also may develop a fever and neck swelling.

Sources of iodine

Iodine is added to most table salt so people generally get the required amount from just one teaspoon of iodized salt. Iodine is also readily present in seafood and sea plants such as kelp and seaweed. Fruits and vegetables grown in coastal regions are other good sources of iodine. Processed foods are not a good source of iodine as they typically are not made with iodized salt.

The recommended daily allowance for adults is 150 mg/day. Women who are pregnant or who are breast feeding require more: 157 mg/day and 200 mg/day respectively.

Symptoms of iodine deficiency

Since iodine plays a role in producing energy, the most notable symptoms of a deficiency include lethargy, slowed reflexes and a slowed metabolic rate. Skin can become dry and hoarseness can develop in the throat. The amount of fat in the blood supply can increase which is why obesity is one of the symptoms of an iodine deficiency. If the deficiency continues for a long time, the thyroid gland can become enlarged. An enlarged thyroid gland is called a goiter. A goiter develops when the thyroid gland is forced to work extra hard to produce adequate levels of thyroxine. Goiters usually protrude from the side of the neck. In children, a deficiency of iodine may cause mental retardation. Fortunately, this type of deficiency is rare in developed countries.

12 Healthy Healing Foods From the Bible

Why does our society seem to seek every way to overcome sickness and disease other than looking in the best Instruction Manual that’s been around for thousands of years? Why do we avoid the simplicity of the basics when it comes to our health? The “basics” I refer to are eating healthy foods, getting regular exercise and adequate sleep.

Of course, the best instruction manual I am referring to is the Bible and there must be hundreds of books out there educating us on the importance of adequate exercise and sleep. Yes, there are scads of books on what to eat, too, but if they tell you to eat something that seems to contradict what the Bible says is OK, you probably should do some serious research before incorporating it into a regular eating plan.

There are actually some diet/eating plans being promoted that in the long run, may not be very healthy. What a shame if you lose weight, for example, and then have a heart attack because you were eating way too much meat or didn’t get adequate nutrition.

Do I even need to mention some things you should obviously avoid if you want to experience optimum health? Folks, as much as I hate to list anything, this is what I see around me in abundance: fried foods, sugar in just about everything it seems, artificial sweeteners, meals heavy in meats with few vegetables and fruits, almost all cooked, (very little raw foods), and diet drinks.

The foods listed in this report are by no means all the “healthy” foods mentioned in the Bible. They should, however, provide you with some guidance in your food choices.

1. Apples. Song of Solomon. Apples are considered to be the “all around health food.” They are high in flavonoids, fiber and Vitamin C. Some of the apple’s healing powers include:

A.      They lower both bad cholesterol and high blood pressure

B.      The juices in apples are highly effective virus fighters

C.      They help stabilize blood sugar, an important factor in controlling diabetes

D.      They suppress the appetite without robbing the body of necessary nutrients

E.       Depending on the need, they prevent constipation or help treat diarrhea

One caution: conventionally grown apples may be highly sprayed with pesticides and coated with wax. Purchase organically grown apples when possible.

2. Barley. Deuteronomy 8:8, Ezekiel 4:9. Barley’s high fiber content can help keep us regular, relieve constipation and ward off a wide variety of digestive problems. It also may help block cancer. Barley is full of beta glucans, a type of fiber that can lower the risk of heart disease by reducing the levels of artery-clogging LDL.

3. Coriander (Cilantro). When the children of Israel wandered in the desert and received manna from the sky, they described it as looking like coriander seed. Since then coriander has been called “the healer from heaven.” Coriander is recommended for indigestion, flatulence (excessive gas) and diarrhea. Externally, it’s used to ease muscle and joint pain. Recently, scientists began looking at coriander as an anti-inflammatory treatment for arthritis. Other research has demonstrated that it reduces blood sugar levels, an indication that it may prove to be a useful sugar management tool for diabetics.

4. Fish. Luke 24:42-43. Fish is low in cholesterol and contains healthy polyunsaturated fats. Fish is a rich source of protein, potassium, vitamins and minerals with only a moderate amount of sodium. Eating fish:

* Thins the blood

* Protects arteries from damage

* Inhibits blood clots (anti-thrombotic)

* Reduces blood triglycerides

* Lowers LDL blood cholesterol

* Lowers blood pressure

* Reduces risk of heart attack and stroke

* Eases symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis

* Reduces risk of lupus

* Relieves migraine headaches

* Fights inflammation

* Helps regulate the immune system

* Inhibits cancer in animals and possibly humans

* Soothes bronchial asthma

* Combats early kidney disease

The key to the healing powers of fish lies in the omega-3 fatty acids. These are particularly concentrated in cold-water fish such as anchovies, bluefish, herring, lake trout, mackerel, sable fish, whitefish, flue fin tuna, salmon and sardines. Note: in deciding between “healthy” and “unhealthy” fish, you can get specific instruction from Lev. 11:9. Eat only fish which have both fins and scales.

5. Garlic. One of the world’s oldest healing foods. By the time of Moses, garlic was already being used as an anticoagulant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor agent, as well as a relief for flatulence, a diuretic, a sedative, a poultice and as a cure for internal parasites. Research suggests that garlic may help protect against heart disease and stroke by lowering blood pressure. It contains allylic sulfides, which may neutralize carcinogens. In fact, garlic has been linked to lower rates of stomach cancer, too. It is heart-friendly, with scores of studies showing its astonishing ability to fight hypertension, prevent blood clots and lower cholesterol.

6. Fruits, Berries, Grapes. Numbers 13:23, II Samuel 16:1-2. Grapes were the first thing Noah planted after the flood. Grapes were eaten fresh, dried and eaten as raisins just as we do today, and pressed into cakes. However, most of the crop of the vineyards was made into juice, wine and vinegar. A cup of raw grapes contains only 58 calories, 0.3 grams of fat, zero cholesterol and vitamins A, B and C. Grapes also contain important minerals such as boron, calcium, potassium and zinc.

Grapes may be helpful in preventing osteoporosis, fighting tooth decay, heading off cancer and fighting off viruses. Other health-giving fruits include figs, melons, and pomegranates.

7. Legumes. 2 Samuel 17:28-29, Genesis 25:34. As reported in the book of Samuel, beans were among the highly nutritious foods sent to feed King David’s hungry army and restore their strength for the hard times ahead. Beans have a lot of soluble fiber, which helps lower LDL and reduce blood pressure. The fiber also helps keep blood sugar levels stable, stave off hunger, and even reduce the insulin requirements of people suffering from diabetes.

Beans are a great source of protein as well as being packed full of vitamin C, iron and dietary fiber. Beans help lower blood pressure and reduce the “bad” cholesterol that today’s research has shown to be the cause of so much devastating heart trouble — a rarity centuries ago. Beans contain chemicals that inhibit the growth of cancer. They help prevent constipation, can stop hemorrhoids and other bowel-related problems from developing, and help cure them if they do.

8. Nuts, including almonds, pistachio nuts and walnuts. Song of Solomon 6:11, Gen. 43:11. Botanists today believe that Solomon’s “garden of nuts” referred to in Scripture was a rich grove of walnut trees. At the time, walnuts were prized for the oil they produced, which was regarded as only slightly inferior to olive oil. The fact that walnuts were a delicious treat and highly nutritious was an added bonus. Nuts contain the right mixtures of natural ingredients whose benefits include cancer prevention, a lower risk of heart disease and help for diabetics. The oil found in walnuts is considered helpful because it is one of the “good guy” polyunsaturated fats and tends to lower blood cholesterol levels. Note: it’s best to avoid roasted nuts since they have been found to carry carcinogens, which could lead to cancer growth, so buy your nuts raw.

9. Olives. The olive was one of the most valuable and versatile trees of biblical times. It is mentioned frequently throughout the Bible. Probably the most famous reference to olive oil and its healing powers is in the parable of the good Samaritan, in which the Samaritan cares for a beaten and robbed traveler, treating his wounds with oil and wine. Olive oil, mixed with wine, was even used to soften and soothe bruises and wounds. Known benefits of olive oil include:

* Lowers blood cholesterol

* Reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol levels

* Retards cancer growth

* Reduces the wear and tear of aging on the tissues and organs of the body and brain

* Reduces gastric acidity

* Protects against ulcers and aids the passage of food through the intestines, helping to prevent constipation

* Reduces the risk of gallstones

* Aids normal bone growth

One CAUTION: olive oil has a slight laxative effect, so add it to your diet gradually.

One TIP: the more pure the olive oil, the better, so spend a little extra and get Virgin Olive Oil.

10. Onions. Numbers 11:5. Like its cousin, garlic, the onion is noted as a cure-all. And the folk healers hold it in high regard as far back as 6000 years or more. At least 3000 years before the birth of Christ, onions were treasured both as food and for their therapeutic value — particularly in the treatment of kidney and bladder problems. Some facts about onions:

* Taken internally as a tonic to soothe intestinal gas pains

* Taken internally to alleviate the symptoms of hypertension, high blood sugar and elevated cholesterol

* Some people attribute their long life to a diet that includes high concentrations of onions and yogurt

* The juice of an onion and a syrup made from honey has been used to treat coughs, colds, and asthma attacks

* A tonic of onions soaked in gin has been prescribed for kidney stones and to eliminate excessive fluids

* Modern herbalists recommend onion syrup as an expectorant (it helps eliminate mucus from the respiratory tract)

* Onions can raise the good and lower the bad cholesterol

* Onions can slow blood clotting, regulate blood sugar, break up bronchial congestion and possibly prevent cancer

* Onions possess a strong antibiotic that kills a variety of bacteria

* Have been used externally as an antiseptic and a pain reliever

11. Wheat. Jeremiah 41:8, Ezekiel 4:9. Wheat was the “staff of life.” Biblical people ate their grain boiled and parched, soaked and roasted, and even ate it green from the stalk. It was pounded, dried or crushed to be baked into casseroles, porridges, soups, parched grain salads and desserts. Ezekiel’s bread was intended to be a survival food during the dark days of the Babylonion conquest because it contained wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet and spelt. Wheat bran is high in insoluble fiber. The fiber protects us against constipation. It helps prevent intestinal infections, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. It also improves bowel function and guards us against colon cancer.

12. Wine. I Timothy 5:23. John 4:46. Making wine from grapes is one of the most ancient arts and the beverage of choice in the Bible. According to Genesis, one of the first things Noah did after the flood was plant a vineyard so he could make wine. Researchers are now rediscovering what the physicians of the Bible knew centuries ago. In moderation, wine has a profound impact on our health and healing. Just a single glass of wine a day may be enough to raise the good cholesterol by 7% and help the body put up a barrier to a variety of cancers.

Wine appears to help stop heart disease and cancer. A study at the University of Ottawa in Canada concluded that there is a clear link between wine consumption and lower rates of heart disease. Countries where more than 90% of alcohol is consumed in the form of wine have the lowest rate of heart disease deaths.

A British study of 100 men and women discovered that a single glass of wine or sherry everyday increased the HDL or good cholesterol. When the group abstained from drinking wine, the HDL level decreased.

Red wine also seems to increase the body’s defenses against cancer. White wine may carry some of the same therapeutic benefits, but research so far seems to indicate that red wine is the most effective cancer blocker. Note: be sure to drink only in moderation. Ephesians 5:18.

As you can see, the Bible lists a lot of foods, foods that are actually available to us today, that we could be consuming to prevent illness, serious diseases and many trips to the doctor. Good health is not that difficult, but you do have to work at it a bit. It’s a balance of what you eat, exercise, sleep, avoiding stress, taking vitamin supplements. And strange as it may seem, the Bible is actually a complete instruction Manual for all of this.

In conclusion, the 12 healing foods listed here are only a partial list of healing foods found in the Bible. However, this report provides abundant evidence that God has placed on this earth, many health-giving foods for our consumption. A person who makes a serious effort to daily eat some of these health-giving foods, while avoiding health-destroying foods, certainly can expect to reap the benefits of a healthier body.
