Side Effects After Open Heart Surgery

Open heart surgery is required to repair a number of common heart ailments, including blocked arteries and related heart problems. The procedure is conducted with the aid of a heart-lung machine which carries out important bodily functions while the heart is being operated upon.

While open heart surgery is a very serious type of surgery, it is also one of the most commonly-performed operations in advanced countries and has a very high overall survival rate. Here are some considerations and side effects if you are to undergo surgery:

At The Hospital:

You should not eat or drink within eight hours of the scheduled surgery time. Patients are usually admitted on the morning of the surgery.

After surgery, you will be monitored in the cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) and later on the general floor of the hospital. Hospital stays after surgery are usually 3 to 4 days.

Recovery Times:

Recovery times for full open heart surgery may be 6 to 12 weeks or more. However, recovery for off-pump surgery and minimally-invasive heart surgery may take much less time.

Side Effects After Open Heart Surgery:

People who have undergone or are about to undergo heart surgery are often concerned about the side effects after open heart surgery. Here are some of the most common side-effects, all of which are normal and NOT a cause for alarm in most cases:

* muscle pain

* chest pain

* swelling (especially if you have an incision in your leg from coronary artery bypass grafting, or CABG)

* loss of appetite: it can take several weeks for your appetite to return

* diminished sense of taste: your sense of taste will return in time

* nausea upon smelling food: many patients get nauseous upon smelling food; this is common and will dissipate

* difficulty sleeping: you may have trouble falling asleep, or you may wake up regularly in the middle of the night; this will get better over time

* constipation: take a laxative and add fruits, fiber and juice to your diet

* mood swings: mild depression is normal during this period

* swelling, especially when there has been an incision in your leg

* lump at top of incision: again, this will go away with time

* clicking noise or feeling in your chest: this, too, will go away on its own; if it gets worse, contact your surgeon

While all of these side effects are normal and should go away with time, do not hesitate to contact your doctor if you are concerned or are facing an emergency.

Medicine Side Effects:

There are also a number of possible side effects after open heart surgery related to the medicines you take for surgery. If you experience any of the following side-effects, you SHOULD contact your physician right away:

* excessive nausea, diarrhea, constipation, or stomach pain

* vomiting

* dizziness or light-headedness when standing up

* confusion

* very fast or very slow pulse

* skin rash

* unusual burning or bleeding

Self-Care, Including Diet:

It is important to strictly follow your doctor’s instructions after surgery concerning your self-care, especially during the first 6-12 weeks after surgery.

One of the most important elements to consider after open heart surgery – both during the recovery period and for the rest of your life – is how you eat. It is important to eat heart-healthy foods, such as those rich in fiber and low in fats.

Most side-effects after heart surgery are completely normal. If you experience any side effects of particular concern that are not outlined here it is essential that you contact your doctor right away.

Reasons Why You Need To See A Nail Spa Expert

For women, it takes a lot of effort to stay beautiful and confident all day, every single day. This is why they treat nail spas as their best friends when it comes to feeling beautiful, empowered and looking fab. Having a manicure and pedicure regularly is like having a breath of fresh air. It only takes one full session at a nearby beauty and health spa to realize that it truly pays to pay attention to your nails. Making your hands and feet look pretty by investing in professional nail care and pampering can go a long way – in terms of helping you achieve a more put-together look, let go of some of the worries of the day and improve your overall health and wellness. Below are some of the benefits you’ll get:

1. Receive no less than professional service and attention. DIY mani-pedi can be time-consuming and may lead to disastrous results. Like a bad haircut, it can sometimes need a long time to correct those amateur errors (hello, misshapen, too-short nails). Going to a trusted nail spa saves you from all the hassle and the pain, time and money wasted on products. Highly trained nail technicians will assist you and ensure the results will be nothing but spectacular.

2. Ensure your nails are always in top health. A total nail care experience will include making sure your nails are thoroughly clean, thus preventing the growth of bacteria and foot odour. Services also include a massage which keeps your hands and feet moisturized, improves blood circulation, and loosens knots and tense, tired muscles. Professional manicures and pedicures also prevent infections caused by ingrown nails resulting from wrong clipping and cleaning practices. Moreover, going to nail care experts regularly will help detect problems early and thus prevent serious and costly complications.

3. Get a change to de-stress. Regular clients consider their favourite nail spa as their temporary escape from the worries of the world. It’s refreshing to have someone take care of you for a change, allowing you to recharge your mind and body. Some also like to schedule spa dates with their friends so they can spend fun, quality time while getting primped and pampered.

4. Save time and money. Leading spas usually offer a wide range of body and beauty treatments aside from nail care. Thus, savvy clients often look for spa deals before booking their appointment, so they can enjoy not just nail services but also other treatments such as facials, waxing or body contouring. After such a relaxing day and getting pro care from top to toe, you’ll leave the spa refreshed, more beautiful, more confident and ready to take over the world once again.

Panic Attacks Symptoms – How to Know if You Suffer From Panic Attacks and What Are The Causes?

Panic attacks symptoms can be very confusing. They include weird feelings, you have no idea what’s going on, where they come from and why this is happening to you. Panic attacks can be confused with a nervous breakdown, heart attack, general anxiety and more. This guide will help you find out if you suffer from panic disorder or is it actually something else.

Hyperventilation

Do you feel that you breathe faster than you need? Short of breath? This is called hyperventilation. When this happens, the brain gets less oxygen than needed. The result: your vision blurs, you can feel dizzy, anxious, nervous and tense. You may also feel like crying and worst of all – suffocating. Than you get the need to breathe more deeply, which makes the condition worse. This causes feelings of numbness or cold feet, chest pain and trembling and tingling in your fingers and feet. It’s very frightening. Many people get so freaked out, they run to the emergency room immediately.

Dizziness

Do you feel suddenly light-headed or dizzy? Many times you may also feel unable to balance, like you’re sea sick. You may also feel like you are going to faint right now and that the world is spinning. This is usually caused by the hyperventilation but not always. When you think you will faint you get even more afraid which elevates the panic. This can continue for hours or just minutes.

Chest pain, Palpitations, Irregular Heart Beats

Chest pain is probably the most frightening one of the panic attacks symptoms. Most people that experience this are sure they are going through a heart attack. Your heart beats real fast and the chest muscles feel very tight. The added fear causes more false heart attack symptoms like sweating, numbness in the arms and palpitations. Sometimes you can feel irregular heart beats, or skipped beats. The chest pain you feel is caused by the tensed muscles in your chest and not by a heart attack.

Other Panic Attacks Symptoms Are:

·        Throat thickening, choking feeling

·        Blurred vision, sensitivity to light, itchy eyes

·        Ringing in your ears

·        Digestive system/Nausea

·        Nausea and digestion problems

·        Metallic taste in the mouth or ammonia taste or smell

·        Sudden urge to go to the toilet, frequent urination

·        Stiffness in the muscles, muscle twitching

·        Shaking or trembling

·        Feeling chilled, cold sweating

·        Tingling in hands and feet, numbness

·        Headaches

·        Depersonalization, Derealization, Feeling of unreality

·        Fear of losing your mind, fear you are going to die, losing control

·        Chronic fatigue

·        Being afraid to get out of the house, seeing people

·        Dry mouth

·        Mood swings

·        Panic in the middle of the night, bad dreams

·        Obsessive thoughts, trouble concentrating

·        Sugar cravings constantly

·        Weak legs

What Causes Panic Attacks Symptoms?

The reasons for panic attacks are not yet fully known. Some studies found that a combination of reasons are involved, some of them are: abnormalities in the brain (Chemical problems in some parts of the brain), family genetics (it’s known to run in families) and constant major stress or post traumatic syndrome (major life transitions, death of spouse or family member).

What Can You Do About It?

If the symptoms listed above apply to you, you may be suffering from panic attacks. There are many different ways to treat panic disorder: medication, herbal remedies, breathing techniques, counseling and supplements are some of them.

The best way to treat panic attacks symptoms is to achieve a real cure by treating the root and causes of the problem. This can be achieved by cognitive behavioral therapy.

Kidney Infection Or Lower Back Pain? How To Distinguish Between The Two

Back pain is a part of our lives and can affect anyone at any point in time. Back pain may occur periodically, remain for a short time, and then quickly disappear. This is known as acute back pain and can be taken care of with medication and rest. The pain would be deemed chronic back pain when it remains for over three months. Many people are on constant medication for back pain.

However, if you are experiencing back pains near the kidney area, its time to pay a visit to the doctor. Kidney infection may cause pain, which is similar to lower back pain. The kidneys are located on either side of the spinal column just above the hip. That is why any kind of pain in that area may be diagnosed as kidney infection. The pain originates in the kidney and radiates to the lower back. This is known as referred pain. Therefore, very often kidney infection is confused with lower back pain.

So how does one distinguish between pain caused by kidney infection and lower back pain? One symptom is that pain due to kidney infection comes on rapidly and disappears once the course of medication is over. With back pain, the pain continues even after the infection has cleared up. The symptoms of kidney infection or kidney stone could be pain during urination, blood in the urine or fever with accompanying chills. If the doctor presses on the kidneys at the time of physical examination, there will be shooting pain in the area. If, on the other hand, you have a stretched, torn or twisted muscle, the pain will be specific to the area. The pain may occur either in the lower back, or between shoulder blades, below the waist or over the spinal column. This type of pain will get worse with movement and ease away while resting. Kidney infection can be safely ruled out in this scenario.

If you happen to suffer from kidney infection, the pain will occur on one side of the back, above the waist but just below the rib cage. The pain may increase as the bladder gets full or it may travel to the genital area. During the time you may have bouts of vomiting, pain while urination, blood in the urine and even fever. Lower back pain could be another symptom of kidney infection. These are general guidelines, which give an idea how to diagnose the pain in the lower back area. If you still are not sure what you are dealing with, any such symptoms call for an urgent visit to the doctor. It is always better to be safe than sorry. If there is an earlier history of kidney infections, then there may be another attack coming on. On the other hand, it may just be a stretched back muscle. Therefore, it is better to visit the doctor so that he can make the proper diagnosis and begin treatment for the pain or kidney infection as the case may be. The kidney infection and resultant back pain will probably clear up with a dose of antibiotics. Lower back pain treatment may call for physiotherapy or medication in the form of pain relievers.

Bronchitis and Acute Bronchitis Treatment – Another 8 Useful Hints

The following article contains 8 hints and tips about bronchitis and chronic bronchitis treatment.

Let’s face it, reading 8 tips isn’t going to change your life, but at least it will give you an idea about what you can find out!

It’s always fun trying to find accurate information about bronchitis, and what we discovered was no exception!

Tip #1

Several of the common infection fighting herbs are used, such as Garlic, Golden seal, and Echinacea. All of these are strong natural antibiotics, and can be used to fight an infection from occurring due to the bronchitis, or treat an existing bronchial infection.

Tip #2

There is always a weapon for slowing down a disease in the medical fraternity. As far as treatment of bronchitis is concerned, the traditional treatment for bronchitis may involve simple steps like taking plenty of rest, drinking lots of water or fluids, keeping away from fumes and smoke, taking help of inhaled bronchodilator or simply getting cough or cold syrup. In chronic bronchitis treatment a need may arise when a person has to provide with supplemental oxygen while heshe is getting difficulty in breathing. Alternative methods may relieve the disease for a while but could not treat infections completely.

Tip #3

Acute bronchitis is often associated with bacterial or viral infections. The disease is commonly acquired in the flu seasons and it generates symptoms such as: dry or low-productive cough, chills, low or moderate fever, sore throat, chest discomfort and pain, wheezing and difficulty breathing. With appropriate treatment, the symptoms of acute infectious bronchitis are quickly alleviated and the disease can be completely overcome within a couple of weeks.

Tip #4

To treat a case of acute bronchitis, one must take some steps in reducing the bronchitis symptoms. This is not a difficult task, especially if you are a healthy person, your only problem being bronchitis. Antibiotics are not one of the medication that work in case of bronchitis. Furthermore, if there is already a problem with your lungs, or with your heart, the bronchitis treatment will be a little more aggressive.

Tip #5

Since acute bronchitis involves increased mucus production triggered by infection or allergens, one of the goals is to clear secretions. The body naturally does this with the cough reflex. Another method is to use aromatic oils.

Tip #6

Acute Bronchitis is actually a virus infection to the inner part of the bronchial tube. As a result your airways become inflamed. That is why you may experience some tightening in your chest. The bronchitis infection may pass very quickly but if left untreated may eventually develop into Chronic Bronchitis – which is a much severe form of bronchitis disease.

Tip #7

Even if the illness is correctly diagnosed, prescribing the best bronchitis treatment is a challenging task for doctors. Antibiotics are often part of bronchitis treatments. However, if bronchitis is caused by viruses, it is considered that bronchitis treatments with antibiotics are ineffective in overcoming the illness. In some viral forms of acute bronchitis, medical treatment isn’t required at all, as the illness clears on itself in a few weeks. Even if the illness is caused by bacteria, bronchitis treatments with antibiotics can cause a lot of harm to the organism if they are administered continuously.

Tip #8

A good balanced diet will make sure that your immune system is at its peak and fighting off infections for your body will be easy. You can also take food supplements when neccesary just to fill in the gaps that your diet might have left.

Well…that’s enough tips for now. I’m sure 8 is enough to be getting along with!

I hope that you found these bronchitis and chronic bronchitis treatment resources useful, they certainly helped me!

Natural Male Enhancement – Increasing Penis Size Without Side Effects

Penis enlargement is such a big issue these days among men simply because not everyone is endowed with an incredibly large manhood. Another reason why size matters a lot is the constant portrayal of an alpha male by media as someone with a huge penis. On the other hand, a guy with a tiny weapon is often laughed at. For these reasons, men have sought for the most effective way to get their penises enlarged. Well, finding an enlargement method is not a difficult thing to do since there are numerous techniques and products available today. The hardest part is finding the most effective one.

You too are also on the hunt for the best enlargement technique. If so, the most important thing to remember when choosing a method is to always go with the natural method. There are tons of benefits for going natural. Unnatural methods can only give insignificant results. Worse, you might end up suffering so many side effects after using these unnatural products. Here are some more helpful tips to help you out.

  1. Never use pumps to enlarge your penis– Pumps are attached to the penis in order to draw blood. Manufacturers claim that this method can stretch the male organ making it longer in just a few weeks time. But this method is totally ineffective and unsafe. Penis pumps can cause penile injuries like scars, bruises, blisters, and more. A guy has to strap on the pump for so many hours each day, so it is not entirely surprising to develop such disastrous side effects.
  2. Avoid using patches or lotions – There are no such things as magical patches or lotions. All those you see being advertised on the Internet and magazines are shams. You see, it is not possible to increase the size of the penis overnight.
  3. Do not hang weights on your manhood– This method is extremely dangerous because it forces the penis to grow by stretching it. Moreover, there is no science behind this method.
  4. The ONLY solution– To get the penis thicker, longer and bigger, there are two things that need to be accomplished – expand the penile chambers and enhance blood flow. The only way to make these happen is to regularly exercise your penis using our hands. Yes, stretching and milking the penis can actually stimulate new cell development making the penile chambers expand naturally. Because it is done naturally, there are no side effects that come with it. All you need is an exercise guide to help you carry out the routines correctly.

Can Beer Make a Vaginal Infection Worse?

Candidiasis or yeast infection is a fungal infection which is caused by an overgrowth of Candida albicans. The fungus is a micro-organism that occurs normally and can survive harmlessly in the human vagina, rectum, digestive tract and even mouth. But, due to certain changes in the host body, it might proliferate into the vagina thus resulting in a yeast infection. Such a condition leads to various symptoms like severe vaginal itching, burning, irritation and soreness in the vaginal area and discharge of the white substance. The infection may become even more severe if not treated in time.

Beer is said to worsen this condition of yeast infection. This is so because beer is a drink made by brewing and it is very well-known fact that yeast is used in the process of brewing. It is true that beer does not contain yeast of the Candida variety, but it aids in the growth of the Candida albicans that is the cause behind the yeast infection. As has already been said, the yeast that results in yeast infection already exists in the human body in small quantities and favorable conditions can only enhance the growth of the Candida albicans. This leads to an overgrowth of the fungi and the resulting situation is yeast infection or Candidiasis.

For all these reasons, the holistic dealers advice the Candidiasis infected people against alcoholic drinks. Apart from these, beer is an alcoholic drink and has an adverse effect on the intestinal lining like any other hard drink. This makes the intestinal lining more permeable which helps the Candida albicans to pass through it easily thus infecting the digestive system. Moreover, beer causes great damage to the liver and harms the human body in general. In fact, they also recommend intake of other food items likely to worsen the infection, which include sodas, sugars, vinegar and cheese.

However, change in the diet alone is not enough to treat the yeast infection. Along with dietary modification, medication and home remedies are also necessary to cure the yeast infection. Medicines like Diflucan, Nizoral and Sporanox can be consumed to get rid of the infection. There are also antifungal creams and lotions which can be applied directly to the infected areas. Home remedies that can be used include yogurt which can be applied or consumed to prevent the spreading of the infection. Garlic is also beneficial in this condition. The diet of the infected person should contain things like yogurt and garlic to combat the yeast since these are natural anti-fungal and anti-bacterial substances.

Most people alcoholic drink as a normal drink not even considering it as a hard drink. The infected person may drink beer not aware of the complications that it may give rise to. Thus, it is very important for them to know about the implications of drinking beer and to limit their consumption of all alcoholic drinks including beer.

Painful Knees After Running – Special Report on the Effective Use of a Knee Brace

Running on the trails is supposed to be a relatively safe sport, right?

Then why is it that you have pain problems after you run!?

When you think about it, running is still a high impact activity where extreme pressure and strain are placed on the knee joints and the ligaments that help support the knee. The continuous and excessive pounding and stress on the knees can lead to common injuries such as ACL tears, MCL tears and meniscus tears.

While all runners will not necessarily develop these specific knee injuries, almost all runners will suffer from painful knees after running at some time in their career.

If You Have Pain In Your Knee Joints After Running, Is This A Sign Of Tissue Damage?

If you have discomfort in your knees after running, this does not always mean that you will have a serious knee injury. Painful knees after a running can be a normal response known as “protective pain” coming from myofascial trigger points. This type of pain may feel as if it is radiating from the knee joint, but is actually the result of the contraction knots in the quadriceps muscles.

Common Injuries That Cause Painful Knees after Running

Running can put a lot of strain and pressure on the knee joint and the ligaments supporting the knee. You already know this to be true. As time goes on, this could develop into a number of more severe types of knee issues, including:

– Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS): Also known as “Runner’s Knee”, this collectively refers to common problems afflicting runners, which includes common injuries like chondromalacia patella, patellar tendonitis, or generalized knee pain.

– Dislocated Kneecap: This condition causes acute symptoms during dislocation but can also cause chronic knee pain.

– Plica Syndrome: This knee issue results in discomfort along the lining of your knee joint. Some individuals have more prominent lining of the knee joint, and can form the so-called “plica shelf”. This tissue becomes easily inflamed and will give runners painful knees after running.

How Knee Braces Prevent Painful Knees After Running

Despite the often repeated advice to ease up on the “road running”, most runners refuse to give up. For those who insist on running the extra mile without letting painful knees get in the way, there is a simple way of preventing painful knees after running.

Knee braces for running are specially designed to help the knee joints so that the stress and strain from constant pounding while running are reduced to a minimum. The functionality of a knee brace helps to ensure that potential damage to the knee joint and ligaments is avoided. Moreover, individuals who run should choose the right knee support that pertains to their particular needs. There are many low profile knee supports that allow for plenty of mobility, while also remaining light weight.

When choosing the appropriate knee brace, runners should first determine the conditions for which the knee brace will be used. Prophylactic knee supports are considered if you want to help “prevent” future knee problems. Functional knee braces, on the other hand, are used to compensate for a torn ligament and prevent further aggravation of knee injuries. – Nevertheless, you should not be in the position where you are looking back, wishing that you would have done something to help protect your knee. Bracing yourself for added stability is never a bad idea if you have painful knee joints.

How to Get Rid of Fatty Liver

If you have fatty liver, you are not alone! It is the most common liver disease in the United States.

Fatty Liver begins as a mild liver condition where fat starts accumulating in your liver cells. This build-up of fat usually causes no damage by itself and there are no symptoms in the early stages.

However, as more fat builds up in your liver cells, it causes inflammation and swelling of your liver. As your liver struggles to get rid of the fatty buildup, you start experiencing symptoms and it is a sign that a harmful condition is at work in your body. This is when you start noticing the symptoms of fatty liver.

The first signs of liver inflammation and swelling are:

  • Nausea
  • Stomach pain
  • Abdominal burning sensation
  • Rashes
  • Tiredness and Fatigue
  • Headaches

What Causes Fatty Liver?

At first, you might think that eating fatty foods causes fatty liver, but that is not true.

1. Your liver plays an important role in the metabolism (break down) of fats. When something goes wrong in this process of metabolism, excess fat starts building up in your liver.

2. Many health professionals believe that an overgrowth of Candida albicans, a yeast bacteria found in the intestinal tract, may be the root cause of fatty liver disease. Candida is the most common cause of yeast infections in women. If it over-populates your digestive tract, it causes problems with your metabolism.

3. Your liver is responsible for storing excess blood glucose (sugar). If your blood sugar is too high, your liver converts the excess sugar into fat and starts accumulating in your liver. It is important to note, Candida thrives on sugar and refined carbohydrates (foods that convert to sugar in your body) and will make you experience intense sugar cravings.

4. Your liver is responsible for removing harmful bacteria and toxins from your blood. It also kills germs that enter your body through the intestine. Processing these bacteria, toxins and germs by your liver produces toxic by-products in your digestive system. When your digestive system is overwhelmed with toxins, your liver is overwhelmed trying to get rid of the toxins.

How to Get Rid of Fatty Liver

When your liver is struggling to get rid of the fatty buildup, you’re feeling the overwhelming symptoms of tiredness, fatigue, stomach pain and low energy. These symptoms of fatty liver are what’s keeping you from enjoying your daily life.

  • First, if you are overweight, then losing weight is essential. Weight loss is by far the most important treatment. Research shows that people who lose just 9% of their total body weight were able to completely reverse fatty liver disease.
  • Cut down your intake of sugar. Your liver converts excess sugar into fat. Less sugar in your diet means your liver will not have to work as hard converting the sugar into fat.
  • Cut down on simple carbohydrates, especially white bread, pasta and rice. Your liver converts these simple carbohydrates directly into sugar. Then the sugar is converted to fat, which is stored in your liver.
  • You can ease the stress on your liver by eating more complex carbohydrates. Eat fiber-rich whole grain breads, cereals, crackers and brown rice.
  • Eating fresh fruits and vegetables and drinking plenty of water helps eliminate the fatty deposits in your liver. This also helps get rid of toxins from your body and you can start feeling better fast.
  • Finally, use natural cleansing foods, herbs, and supplements to detoxify and purify your liver. This helps soothe the inflammation, relieve the swelling, and ease the pain.

If you are experiencing inflammation, swelling, and other symptoms of fatty liver disease, that means too much fat is accumulating in your liver cells and your liver is not functioning at top capacity. The good news is, your liver can regenerate new cells and grow healthy new tissue.

The simple truth is, your liver has a remarkable power to heal. If you are suffering from fatty liver, it is especially important to start caring for your liver now–before the fatty buildup causes more damage to your liver.

How To Quit Smoking – 8 Limiting Beliefs That You Need To Get Rid

The simple reason most people don’t know how to quit smoking is because they have all these excuses and reasons why they can’t quit. But if you are prepared to get rid of those limiting smoking beliefs for good you will have a very poor chance of quitting smoking.

Lets examine a few of the most popular useless smoking beliefs.

1. I need to smoke when I’m bored. Boredom is a kind of stress, non smokers have to contend with this all the time. Cigarettes never ever solve boredom.

2. I need to smoke in order to think. Blasting your brain with 4000 toxic chemicals can’t help you to think, its stopping for a few minutes to relax that helps you.

3. I need to smoke to relax. Smoking causes an adrenalin release, This is more likely to cause anxiety not relaxation.

4. It’s harder to quit smoking than to quit heroin. It’s just an urban myth, did you hear of anyone going in to rehab to quit smoking? Have you seen someone lying in the foetal position in a pool of their own vomit when trying to quit smoking!

It takes many attempts to quit cigarettes. Rubbish, its only the pharmaceutical companies who tell you that because they want you to fail. Plus well meaning government departments who promote these same drugs. Don’t believe it for a second, with advanced hypnosis most people will quit in under 90 minutes.

5. Smoking is my friend. Yes it may be a friend but its a terrible friend who steels your money, steels your time and ultimately steels your life.

6. Smoking helps me when I’m stressed. Again nicotine causes a release of adrenalin and cortisone, these are stress hormones, not anti stress hormones. Your stress will always be made worse by smoking.

7. But I’m addicted, I can’t quit. In our experience only about 5% of smokers are strongly addicted to nicotine. The majority are strongly habitually addicted to the act of smoking, these habits are easily broken with hypnosis.

8. I don’t have any will power. In fact you have amazing willpower, every day you eat sleep bathe work etc, but willpower alone won’t break the smoking habit. It has to be done via the sub conscious.

Unless you are prepared to set aside all the useless smoking excuses you are doomed to continue smoking. But if you do change your thinking you will be instantly primed to easily and successfully quit smoking.

Luxated Patella: Is This Debilitating Condition Affecting Your Dog?

If you think that your dog is suffering from a luxated patella or a slipped kneecap, the best thing to do is take him to the vet as soon as you can. Although a slipped kneecap may not seem like a serious condition to your young dog, it is a progressive disorder and can be debilitating if left untreated.

5 Common Symptoms Of A Slipped Kneecap

Symptoms usually start to appear when the dog is young, between the ages of 6 months to 1 year. But in some dogs, symptoms show up as early as around 8 weeks of age, but remains undetected until the dog reaches maturity. Signs include:

1. Difficulty climbing stairs.
2. Occasional skipping or limping, especially during a run.
3. Lameness on the leg, especially on the rear, that occurs frequently and ends suddenly.
4. Difficulty squatting.
5. Suddenly yapping in pain while walking or running, usually lasting for 2 to 4 strides.

In severe cases, the kneecap dislocates more often and lasts longer. Your dog will show discomfort and pain, seems bowlegged, and exhibits a crouching way of walking.

Using one of the many available pet strollers will allow you to take your dog with you, even bike and jog with your dog. Using a pet stroller allows your dog to enjoy time with you outside without wearing himself out. He will still be left with energy when you get to the park, or dog run.

Luxated patella is categorized in four grades, depending on the severity of the condition:

Grade I: This is when the kneecap manually dislocates but goes back into place once the pressure is released. Considered as a mild case with treatment not necessary. However, you need to keep a close eye on your dog in case the condition gets worse.

Grade II: The kneecap dislocates more often, either manually or automatically, when the joint is being flexed and continues to be dislocated until the joint is extended and the leg is turned into the opposite direction of the dislocation. Considered as middle ground between mild and severe, dogs with grades I and II should be closely monitored in case the condition gets worse.

Grade III: The kneecap dislocates on a regular basis, whenever the joint is flexed and extended. Dislocation is manually decreased when the joint is extended. This is considered to be severe enough to warrant surgery.

Grade IV: The kneecap is permanently dislocated and cannot manually be put back into place. This is because the groove is too shallow or, in some cases, completely missing. Surgery is needed to fix this problem.

Understanding the Different Types of Stroke

Stroke is a common illness found in human nature. The basic principles are quite simple, but it often gets obscured by the terminology used by doctors to describe it. However, this article has tried to simplify the explanations for easy understanding.

Stroke is separated into 5 types, stemming from 2 major causes. They are the white stroke (ischemic), transient stroke (TIA), red stroke (ICH), red stroke (SAH) and dementia (vascular cognitive impairment).

White strokes stop the flow of blood. It is the most common type. They stand in contrast to red stroke, which cause bleeding in the brain. In almost every white stoke, a blood clot will forms and blocks blood flow to a part of the brain. Eventually, it will result in a painless loss of brain function.

Transient stroke last only for a short period of time. Medical professionals & doctors refer as transient ischemic attacks (TIA). Some white strokes are transient. Transient strokes present different situation, a relatively short period of stroke symptom and no apparent disability after that. It rarely creates any injury to the brain.

Red strokes are the opposite of white strokes. Red strokes are caused by bleeding of the brain arteries while white strokes are caused by the blood clots in the brain arteries. The 2 types of red stroke can be differentiated by where the bleeding starts. One type involves bleeding in the areas surrounding the brain, called subarachnoid hemorrhage. Another type is called brain hemorrhage, which occurs when the bleeding is within the brain itself. Subarachnoid hemorrhage gives warning signs such as face and eye pain, large pupil in one eye, headaches, neck pain and stiffness that come on suddenly and sudden pain between shoulder blades.

Differently, brain hemorrhage produces the same signs and symptoms as a white stroke. This includes paralyzing of face, arm or leg on one side of the body, difficulty speaking or understanding speech, loss of sensation on one side of the body, dizziness and clumsiness in the use of the arms or legs. It usually gets worse as time goes by. Brain hemorrhages are often fatal and cause more severe disability.

Dementia is the result of a series of small strokes. It is usually not obvious so human might not even know when they are actually having it. It creates vague numbness and slurring of speech. Dementia is a condition in which it damaged brain tissue leading in severely impaired memory, cognition and loss of other brain function, which may becomes progressively worse with time.

Understanding Blood Pressure Readings – Easy Reading

Understanding blood pressure readings are not complex as one may think. Those two numbers one hears when visiting a doctor or getting a reading could be easily understood. Blood pressure readings are commonly done with every doctors visit one encounters. There are also portable blood pressure monitors which are commonly found in drug stores.

Getting a proper blood pressure reading to understand if one is at risk can only be done with multiple testing done at different times. Many factors can account for a slight elevation in ones blood pressure, such as a stressful day, or even the doctor’s visit it’s self can cause one to have a higher than normal reading.

Doctor’s typically record high readings and watch for a consistently steady “high reading” before taking action. People at risk for high blood pressure that are testing themselves should do so at different times during the day and over a span of a few days to ensure an accurate reading.

Understanding one’s reading is not as difficult as it may sound. There are two numbers that account for blood pressure, the top number (the higher one, known as the systolic) and the bottom number (the lower one, known as the diastolic). When blood flows through the heart, the heart expands to release blood back into the body and contracts to take in blood from the blood vessels. A blood pressure reading is in layman’s terms, the “opening and closing of the heart.”

Systolic: The blood pressure when the heart is contracting.

Diastolic: The blood pressure when the heart is relaxed.

There are four stages of blood pressure readings:

Normal – Systolic below 120 and Diastolic below 80

People with normal blood pressure should maintain the healthy lifestyle they have already adapted.

Pre-hypertension – 120-139 / 80-89

People with pre-hypertension are at a risk for developing high blood pressure and should adopt a healthy lifestyle with changes in their diet, exercise, and salt intake.

Stage 1 Hypertension – 140-149 / 90-99

Need a complete lifestyle change; doctor’s monitor patients with Stage 1 hypertension for usually a period of 6 months, without changes in a Stage 1 patient, a medication will typically be prescribed.

Stage 2 Hypertension – 160+ / 100+ or more

Treated with a lifestyle change as well as one or more medications to lower blood pressure.

Understanding blood pressure readings is a simple process, as long as the readings are done over a period of time. People with risk factors should keep a journal of blood pressure readings to present to his or her doctor for further treatment and discussion. People with a healthy blood pressure reading should maintain the diet and exercise they have adapted, and people at risk should adopt one.

Bone Fracture

A bone fracture occurs when a bone, anywhere in the human body, is cracked or broken. The break affects the continuity of the bone itself and also causes mild to severe pain at the break and throughout the body. Bone fractures are caused by a few different factors. They are a high-powered collision, osteoporosis or certain kinds of cancer.

There are two types of fractures; open or closed. An open fracture is broken skin with a piece of the bone exposed. A closed fracture is still a broken bone but without exposure through the skin. An open fracture is the most dangerous fracture because there is a likelihood for the exposed bone to become infected. Treatment for an open fracture comes in the form of antibiotics and surgery. During surgery the doctor will clean the infected area and remove any dirt, contamination and the dead tissue.

Fractures can also be simple or multi-fragmentary. A simple fracture is a break of a bone in only one place; splitting the bone into two sections. A multi-fragmentary fracture is a break that splits the bone into more than one piece.

There are complete fractures, where the bone fragments completely separate during the injury or an incomplete fracture, where the bone does not come completely detached. A spiral fracture is one in which one part of the bone has been twisted during the injury and a compacted fracture is when bone fragments are forced into each other during an injury.

The healing process of a bone fracture is very important to a patient. The healing process gets underway when the injured bone and surrounding tissues begin to bleed. A blood clot is formed between the broken fragments and new blood vessels begin to grow in the area of the clot. The new blood vessels bring in white blood cells which remove any non-viable material from the area. Collagen then replaces the blood clot, which allows bone to move slightly. Now, there are crystals that begin to form in between the bones, which turns the collagen into new bone.

Healing the bone in this way can sometimes take up to 18 months but adults are already 80 percent healed after only three months. Patients with bone fractures should avoid nicotine usage during the healing process while having an adequate intake of calcium will aid the healing process.

Treatment for bone fractures come in different forms. Doctors will stabilize the break by placing a finger or hand in a splint, placing the broken bone area into a fiberglass cast, snapping the bones back into place or using screws, nails, or plates to hold the bones together if the fracture requires surgery.

Bone fractures are not the most dangerous problems patients could deal with health-wise since they are so easy to treat and not difficult to heal. Bone fractures can be dangerous if they are an open fracture and not taken of properly. An infection could cause deterioration of the bone and require major surgery. Bone fractures can be easy to treat if taken care of properly.
