Craig, I would start by encouraging anyone interested in changing their body, no matter what their age may be, to change their mind first.

What I mean by that is simply this: we excel at what we ‘become’.

We dabble at what we ‘participate in’.

Most people want to “participate” in fitness. Perhaps join a health club, get a trainer, go on a diet, and so-on. Yet everyone on the planet would answer YES to this question: “Do you want to be fit

for the rest of your life?”

Think about it: Can you be ‘anything positive’ for the rest of your life when you dabble at what you seek? No.

So, to get over the inertia of starting a fitness program, I encourage what I call “Core Linking”.

Core Linking is covered in my book, “Fit Over 40”. This is where you attach your deepest Core Values to a specific fitness and nutritional goal. Then you “Personalize” these objectives into a

what I call a “State of Becoming.”

You ‘become’ your goal. Rather than “achieving” a goal, which for most is followed by an immediate cessation of the lifestyle patterns they used to become successful, I say ‘become’ your goal.

Become “a body-shaper.” Label yourself as a “bodybuilder”, “body-shaper”, “physical culturist”, “athlete”, whatever! Create a label that FORCES your goal to be LARGER THAN YOU.

This engages the subconscious mind to a remarkable degree. It challenges you in ways that prevent things like “boredom” or excuses like, “I don’t feel like it” from getting in your way.

All of this begins with the power of The Core.

Oh, by the way — it doesn’t matter if you’re a newbie or a seasoned bodybuilder, Core Leveraging works to achieve and become whatever you desire.

CB: So Jon, how do you help people stick with the plan? We all know motivation wanes quickly as results slow down. Any tips?


Believe it or not, I really don’t believe in motivation. “I believe in inspired, consistent action.”

Motivation is short-term. I can motivate just about anyone with a good speech or perhaps an emotionally-charged piece of music. But is this long-term? Hardly.

The truly successful, at anything in life, are self-governed and intrinsically motivated. Actually, they are “inspired” — and that’s the ticket beyond the motivational trap.

Don’t get me wrong — we all need motivation from time to time. But I like to think of it as sugar. It’s quick fuel that burns out just as quickly.

Inspired action, which comes when you develop your Core, sticks around for the long haul.

Inspired action makes a guy like Lance Armstrong take on the Tour de France after going through the worst cancer imaginable. Inspired action drives a boxer to continue a fight with a broken jaw. And,

inspired action will PULL YOU toward a goal.

The opposite is a feeling of “I have to.” This is a “push”. We want to be PULLED. It starts with inspired action, not motivation.

CB: And finally, what nutrition and training changes have you noticed at different stages in your life and in the experiences of the success stories in your book? Do the nutrition principles change at all? What about training and recovery?


As you age, your body tends to process carbohydrate more reluctantly.

There are exceptions of course, but for the most part people with any issues with bodyfat to begin with should curtail their intake of carbs.

This may not mean a “low-carb” diet, but they certainly work if you enjoy protein foods as I do.

Cranking up the protein, the water, and various forms of cardio can allow just about anyone at any age to get the fat off and build muscle.

I’m building plenty of muscle at 43 — more so than I did at 33. The body fat comes off a bit slower, but not much…that is when I consume a higher protein, controlled carb, moderate fat diet with intense and brief weight training sessions.

I am currently experimenting with daily cardio sessions which vary in intensity. Some are longer at 65% MHR, others are 30 minutes at 85%. So far, so good.

Bottom line: If you eat and think properly, as I discuss in Fit Over 40 (the mind is a huge part of all of this), your body can respond like it did when you were 20.

CB: Thanks Jon, that is greatly appreciated. Any final comments for today’s interview? I’m sure we’ll be talking more in the future.


My system of Caloric Rotation allows for muscle building and the burning of bodyfat to happen at the same time. In order to get the body you want, you want to gain lean muscle. That gives you the

curves you seek, plus keeps your bones nice and strong.

You ‘also’ want to burn off excess bodyfat. Otherwise you’ll never see the muscle you are building. Once you do that, you’re “toned”. In short, you become a fat-burning machine.

Understanding Night Sweats in Men

Many of us have heard of menopause night sweats, but night sweats in men can also be a serious matter. Nocturnal hyperhidrosis can affect both men and women alike and more men need to be aware of the potentially serious triggers of their night sweats.

A recent study suggested that a large percentage of individuals believe they’re suffering from night sweats when in actuality a much smaller percentage of people suffer real night sweating. Nocturnal hyperhidrosis, or sleep hyperhidrosis, is more than merely feeling a little warm and sweaty when you’re sleeping. It is a pronounced phenomenon with clear symptoms. If your sleep hyperhidrosis be easily addressed by simply reducing the temperature of your sleeping quarters and using lighter, more breathable clothing and bedsheets, then you are not experiencing clinical sleep hyperhidrosis.

A major difficulty of night sweats in men is that such a broad range of triggers exist. Foods, infections, medicines, diseases and hormonal changes can all lead to night sweats.

Some food items which commonly increase the likelihood of night sweats include garlic, onion, spicy foods and red meats. Alcoholic beverages also may lead to sleep hyphidrosis as they introduce a poison to our system which our body then attempts to eliminate by expelling it through our sweat glands.

Infections, both bacterial and viral, often throw off your body’s natural thermostat. In particular, tuberculosis is well documented to trigger night sweats in men.

Many medicines, especially antidepressants, may cause night sweats. Because the list is so vast, I cannot list them here.  However, I encourage you to check your medication’s indicated side-effects and discuss them with your doctor. One difficulty of blaming your medicines, however, is that sometimes it can be difficult to determine whether the medicine itself is triggering the problem or if the underlying health condition for which the medicine is prescribed to treat is triggering the problem.

Most seriously, cancer and AIDS frequently feature night sweats as an early symptom.  Lymphoma especially often reveals itself through dramatic night sweats and hot flashes.  I do not want to make you feel paranoid, but if you experience distinct night sweats and you can explain them in no other way, be sure to seek your doctor to discuss the matter.

A less serious and more common cause for night sweating in males is a kind of andropause. Yes, men too go through hormonal changes as they age. These hormonal changes can act like menopause and cause our thermostat (the hypothalamus in our brains) to become confused. The concept of an andropause is still new and not yet entirely understood, but plenty of evidence suggests that men over the age of 40 are far more likely to experience night sweats in men.

Winter weather is harsh on every inch of your skin, most especially the exposed parts of your face, hands and feet. Cold temperatures, low humidity, and dry air strip your skin of much-needed moisture. Additionally, hot showers, long baths, and central heating, also contribute to causing dry, sore, and flaky skin or even eczema.

Keep the anal area as dry as possible. Things like changing out of wet clothes and sweaty gym gear straight away. Always pat the area dry, never rub as this just aggravates the area. Use a hair dryer on gentle heat to dry the area after a shower.

Diet is definitely the best cure. Sugar allows yeast to thrive so cut sugar out completely if possible. You have to starve the yeast. Things such as lollies, biscuits, cakes, soft drinks, anything sugary should be stopped. Reducing alcohol is also advised because of its high sugar content. Avoid packaged or processed foods. Getting back to a natural diet of fresh foods definitely puts a stop to yeast.

Include antifungal foods in your diet. These include apple cider vinegar which can be taken internally as a salad dressing or mixed in juice and water. This may be a little strong to take but is great for a whole range of ailments. Coconut oil, Clove oil, Garlic, Ginger and Oregano all have antifungal properties.

Is Gum Disease Causing Your Heartburn And Allergies?

A few nights ago I was eating foods that don’t agree with me.

For me, that means the usual suspects such as coffee. And also tomatoes and peppers which are in the nightshade family and contain high amounts of lectins that cause problems for people like me and maybe for you.

I woke at 2:30 in the morning with the warning signs of heartburn. I started doing reduced breathing exercises, drank a glass of water, and went back to sleep. No heartburn. Everything was fine now.

I have proven time and again, using my own body, the heartburn and GERD are caused by ultra low carbon dioxide levels in the body. There are numerous studies that I will get into in future articles that bear this out. Meantime if you have my book or have learned Buteyko exercises already can verify this for yourself.

When I started my reduced breathing regimen, I cured lifelong asthma and my heartburn went away. I stopped taking medication except for an inhaled nasal corticosteroid spray.

But I have not made much progress in my breathing over the past year.

And there are three suspects here. If you have made decent progress but hit a brick wall, if you still have symptoms of one kind or another, then you will want to read on. You probably have a gum infection that is affecting your health

Most of us have gum infections to one degree or another. Your gums may look a bit puffy. Or you may have some bleeding when yu brush your teeth. Or you may have none of these symptoms.

If you go to the dentist regularly, over the years your periodontal pockets may be growing in depth. Or you may be experiencing bone loss that shows up on x-rays over the years.

Gum disease is caused by anerobic bacteria that live in the gum pockets and create toxins. The bacteria toxins migrate into the body, and the bacteria themselves can enter the body through the gums.

The body must mount an ongoing defense against this invasion of bacteria and toxins.

It is well-known that people with heart disease often have serious gum infections and that the toxins and bacteria sometimes migrate to the heart. This is just the start of what gum disease does to us.

For these reasons, it is essential to your health that you get rid of gum infection. I prefer non-surgical, non-invasive methods. And fortunately I have tested one and can recommend it.

Using the Albrite system to combat gum disease

I have been a great fan of treating gum disease with the Albrite system. This is a simple syringe-like device that comes with a book. You mix up a solution of, say, salt water and dilute hydrogen peroxide, and you inject this right into your gum pockets.

I did this for awhile and it really helped.

Then I stopped.

I went to the dentist recently and he said my gums looked puffy. I just got out of the habit of doing my gum treatments.

The hygienist said they have a new gum therapy. It is non-surgical. They do one quarter of the mouth at a time, say the lower right. They do a very deep cleaning with ultrasound to blast away the films of bacteria that are causing infection. They do each quarter of the mouth at a time and use various guidelines to determine when enough is enough.

The result has been a dramatic increase in health for people who have gone through this.

Chronic heartburn has disappeared.

Skin problems that were bothering the patient went away.

All sorts of higher energy levels and better feeling of health.

I may go and get this done. Meanwhile I am doing the Albrite treatment again and will see if I can’t get this infection under control.

Once you get rid of the infection, you can use a good quality colloidal silver solution to blast into your gums using Albrite. This is kinder to your gums than the hydrogen peroxide salt water. And it is very effective as silver is quite bacteriocidal.

Some people will need to use antibiotics with Albrite. He explains in the book how you can open a tetracycline capsule and dissolve it in water and use this. I have not done this as I do not have severe infections, just chronic low level infections.

I am hoping that my gum problems will respond to consistent treatment at home, and that my breathing progress will start to improve once again.

And that I no longer ever wake up with heartburn.

Pseudocyesis is a condition in which an individual believes herself or himself to be pregnant and develops objective pregnancy signs in the absence of an actual pregnancy. Although pseudocyesis usually occurs in women, there have been a few cases reported in men.

Several theories address the cause of pseudocyesis, and the following three theories are the most accepted. The first theory is the conflict theory, which states that a desire for a fear of pregnancy creates an internal conflict and causes endocrine changes. The endocrine changes are believed to cause the signs, symptoms, and laboratory findings that occur in patients with pseudocyesis. The second theory is the wish-fulfillment theory, which states that minor body changes initiate the false belief in pregnancy in susceptible individuals. The last theory is the depression theory. The depression theory states that pseudocyesis may be initiated by the neuroendocrine changes associated with a major depressive disorder (see Depression).

Evidence exists to support all of these theories. One or more of these theories may be simultaneously appropriate for some patients. Pseudocyesis is considered a heterogeneous disorder without a unifying cause.

Elevated prolactin levels have been implicated as the cause for many of the signs of pseudocyesis. An abdominal ultrasound can confirm and document the absence of a fetus and placenta.

Pseudocyesis is a heterogeneous condition with no one unifying cause and no one universally accepted therapy. There is no clear demographic or sociocultural indicators for a population at risk. The most successful and least invasive form of therapy currently used seems to be revealing to the patient that he or she is not pregnant by using an abdominal imaging technique, counseling and educating the patient, and treating any underlying depression that may exist. Successful treatment has been defined as a six-month symptom-free period.

Overcoming Shyness With Daily Affirmations

There is shyness and then there is extreme shyness. If you are interested in overcoming shyness, then we’re probably talking about the latter. I was a normal kid growing up, a little shy, but not terribly self-conscious. When I got to college, though, I developed a fear of speaking up in class. I was afraid of saying something stupid and having everyone laugh at me. In graduate school it got worse. I lived in dorm style housing and used to listen at my door until it was all clear before sneaking out of the building. I never used the community kitchen for fear of having someone actually engage me in conversation.

Eventually my extreme shyness blossomed into full-blown social anxiety with real panic attacks. I was scared nearly to death and feeling as if my life was completely out of control. Of course I sought help immediately, and over the course of several years had a lot of therapy and tried a lot of different medications. I realize now that a lot of what I got from my doctors was detrimental to my recovery.

The first thing I was told was that I had social phobia or social anxiety disorder. Okay, I have a disorder. There’s something wrong with me. I’m broken and I need to be fixed. Take this drug, try that one, and if those don’t work, we’ll keep trying until we find something that does. What I have learned, to the contrary, is that the first step in overcoming shyness and social phobia is to not see it as a “problem.”

Yes, if you think you have a problem with shyness or social anxiety, then you do indeed have a problem. But the problem is not your shyness or anxiety, it’s the fact that you perceive it as a problem. I know when I was at my lowest point, I felt doomed. My self-consciousness was so acute that I had no self-confidence or self-esteem. I felt betrayed by my body (heavy sweating was my biggest obstacle) and ashamed of the person I had become. In a word, I had come to see myself as a Victim of social anxiety.

The Victim is about the worst self-image available to us among the many archetypes stored away in our subconscious minds. As an archetype, the Victim represents a self-perpetuating, self-destructive emotional and behavioral pattern so deeply ingrained in our subconscious that we will continue to live it out daily until we rewrite the subconscious script. The subconscious works on autopilot; it is a pattern that repeats itself out of habit because we tacitly allow it.

Victims see themselves as being at the mercy of forces outside their control. They do not have both feet on the ground. The Victim’s mind is frozen in self-consciousness and fear and not comfortably rooted in it’s own body, which it needs to interact effectively with the outside world. The Victim is disconnected and self-centered in the sense that all it can think about is its problem, how unbearable it is, and the injustice of it all.

The only way to move forward is to take a stand. We have got to first take responsibility for ourselves, and that means realizing that we are not powerless–we have choices. We can take back control of our lives! Although the majority of the time we do not monitor our own thoughts and feelings, it is something we are capable of doing. It takes some practice, but we can consciously derail any habitual train of thought before it builds up steam. We can look at ourselves in our anxiety, without judgment, and hold up our anxious thoughts and feelings as objects of consciousness. This gives us a little distance between our self and our anxiety. Now, in this moment of observation, we can own our anxiety, accept it, see that we no longer need it, and let it go. And repeat. And repeat. And it will begin to get better.

How to Squash Fear With Quantum Physics

A lot has been written about being in the state of Fear. There are countless techniques and methods of psychology devoted to relieving anxiety, panic, and other disorders of the mind. There is a plethora of drugs that Big Pharma would love to get the entire planet on, that are supposed to relieve that state of fear. The truth is: Fear is something that is not real. Oh it feels real, alright, but it really is something that we concoct within our reptilian brain and it runs amok into our higher centers of the mind. We allow the fear to exist.

Did you know that science has delivered the ability to actually cause you to fear, even when there is nothing there to be afraid of? The military has the brain pattern altering weapons (which were tested on the public before being employed in battle). If this sounds preposterous, think about this for a minute: have you ever felt a huge wave of fear or anxiety and not known where it came from? Were you actually in a good mood until that wave of fear hit? So where did it come from?

There are two places such irrational fears come from. One place is the microwave transmission of such things, as used by the military. Another is the entangled mind of humanity. As in the ‘hundredth monkey’ example, when enough people feel fear, it multiplies. It jumps from one person, to all of those who are in quantum entanglement with that person…and then all the others in entanglement with that batch of people…and continues on.

In any case, the important thing to do when one feels that wave of irrational fear hit, is to decide if it belongs to you or not. If you really do have something to be afraid of in the moment, such as a tiger chasing you, then it’s your fear. If you were in a good mood, or completely occupied with what you are doing, and then felt a wave of fear, it’s not yours. Sometimes the fear is connected with an event about to happen, as in the 9/11 attack, when many people didn’t go in to work that day. That is an example of quantum entanglement-the plan to kill thousands of people was picked up, through that entanglement, on a subconscious level.

Look at animal behavior for a clue to planetary entanglement. The only animals that died during the earthquakes and tsunamis were the ones who were locked up and couldn’t run to safe ground. Animals start acting weird anywhere from just before, to several days before Nature starts making changes. Some humans can tell too, by migraine headaches, strange hums in the ears, or vague uneasiness with a desire to get away.

For the evil, viral kind of Fear that is being fed to humanity, there is an easy way to combat that. Just refuse to give in to it and find the Still Point within. Those who meditate can do this easily, for others, it might take learning meditation. When you center yourself within, ask yourself a simple question: “Why am I completely free of manipulation towards Fear?” You will actually feel a change within yourself while you are asking; changes in your life follow. It really is that easy, so avoid trying to complicate it. By asking that one simple question, especially if asked just before falling asleep or just when waking up-while still in that ‘twilight’ area-you engage your subconscious mind in assisting with positive change.

By couching the question as listed, the real fears-those necessary ones to keep you safe when confronted with real danger-will still be there when you need them. The difference is, the hypnotic manipulation via newspapers, television, radio, and mind-control projects will cease to have an effect on you. Humanity was not meant to grovel in Fear, begging for crumbs of life (which is what the greedy, evil, people intend for The Sheeple). Genuine Human Beings are meant to progress beyond the stars, and far beyond the physical body. We are destined for the greatness of which is promised in the holy books…isn’t it time we all acted like it?
