Estrogen – Is This Natural Hormone Slowly Killing Us?

Too much estrogen is a major problem for women and men and too many people have too much of it. Excess estrogen can accelerate aging, worsen prostate health, increase body fat and muscle atrophy, increase hair loss and cause sexual dysfunction. Women with excess non-metabolized estrogen are at greater risk for breast and uterine cancer, obesity and low sex drive.

In both men and woman, fat cells store large quantities of aromatase, an enzyme that creates estrogen. The higher your percentage of body fat, the more estrogen you may produce. This causes you to create more fat cells, which in turn, creates more estrogen! This cycle can spiral out of control.

In men, aromatase signals the pituitary gland and testes to secrete less luteinizing hormone (LH), thereby significantly slowing testosterone production. High levels of estrogen increases the production of a protein called Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG), which competes with testosterone receptor sites, literally rendering testosterone impotent. Estrogen also causes the liver to produce more of the carrier proteins that bind-up testosterone. Free, unbound testosterone is the only active form that can easily cross into the brain, muscles, sex organs and fat cells.

Testosterone Deficit

Free testosterone makes up only a very small part of total testosterone in men and women. Low levels of free testosterone in men increases body fat, reduces sex drive and may cause depression and erectile dysfunction. This becomes a vicious cycle too. Men have less energy and lower self-esteem. They then may get stressed, eat more, gain weight and have less interest in sex.

Early symptoms of aging in men, is called Andropause. Excessive levels of estrogen have been identified as the main culprit!

Estrogen excess ‘signals’ increased production of SHBG, causing further depletion in free testosterone. Excessive estrogen in males occurs with obesity, excessive alcohol use, smoking, lack of exercise and from exposure to non-bio-identical estrogens in the environment. Pesticides create a form of bad estrogen, concentrated in meats and dairy.

Doses of Bisophenol-A found in microwavable plastics, linings for metal food-and-beverage containers, plastic baby bottles (only glass is safe) leach into the water and blood of humans causing a form of insulin resistance that mimics estrogens. Either a high fat diet according to Nathan Pritikin, one of the great researchers of the twenty century I worked with in 1979 to 81 or minuscule amounts of plastic chemicals (usually considered safe by EPA standards) trigger allergic response, inflammation, and diabetes, according to Theron Randolph MD., author of An Alternate Approach to Allergies. These increases in synthetic estrogens have been shown to cause dangerous changes in the pancreas cells associated with diabetes. Diabetes has increased drastically in our country and worldwide. Diabetics tragically suffer from increased risk of stroke, heart attack, impotency, and amputated limbs.

Some studies suggest that hair loss and baldness may be associated with high-fat diets. High fat diets stimulate estrone, which is converted to bad estrogen. DHT (Di-hydroxytestosterone) can cause hair loss. However, testosterone actually can assist or enhance scalp hair, provided that estrogen levels are okay. DHT should comprise one-fourth to one-third of total androgen count.

Excess estrogen blocks testosterone receptors and DHT becomes dominant. Fatty tissue is loaded with aromatase enzymes that convert testosterone to estrogen. The best approach to combat estrogen dominance in both men and women is to exercise, improve diet and take nutritional supplements that decrease estrogen production.

Losing body fat reduces estrogen conversion. In men, symptoms of andropause recede, and in women, estrogen-dominant symptoms decrease.

Men — Reduce Your Estrogen

Over half of all men past the age of 50 have enlarged prostates. Early signals include hesitancy at the start of urination, increased frequency, dribbling and decreased force and flow of urination. Left untreated, enlarged prostates can lead to sexual dysfunction and impotency.

A University of California study found that impotency was mainly due to high estrogen. Another study elsewhere with 320 men who had been surgically treated for severely enlarged prostates, revealed higher estrogen levels and lower testosterone, than men with normal prostates.

In a Japanese study, men without prostate enlargement had higher levels of testosterone! Additionally, men whose prostates were enlarged had higher levels of estrogen. The scientists in this study concluded that non-metabolized estrogen is correlated with prostate size and volume.

Many urologists are treating patients with prostate disease by suppressing testosterone and increasing estrogen. The drugs that suppress estrogen tend to also reduce the beneficial forms of estrogen and are not doing enough to clear the bad forms of estrogens (16aOHE, 4OHE). In my opinion, metabolizing and clearing out extra estrogen should be the emphasis and can be done with natural phyto-chemical herbs, from vegetable extracts that target the bad estrogens, while restoring the good forms of estrogen and testosterone.

Diindolylmethane (DIM), derived from broccoli, cauliflower, Kale, Bok, Choy, Napa cabbage and Brussels sprouts, promotes beneficial estrogen metabolism. DIM increases ‘good’ estrogens, which then cause SHBG to bind, thereby improving levels of free testosterone all while dramatically decreasing ‘bad’ estrogen. DIM, along with Chrysin (from passion flower), (Passiflora incarnata), in liposomal cream, clears estrogen. It is especially useful for men on testosterone replacement therapy or women on estrogen replacement therapy.

DIM-Chrysin combinations lower prostate cancer risk by up to 41% in men. They also decrease the risk of breast cancer and cervical cancer, in women. Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) is another vegetable extract that is beneficial in estrogen metabolism. Indole-3-carbinol works best if there is sufficient hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

Calcium-D-Glucarate or its metabolite, D-Glucuronolactone, can help detoxify estrogens. Apples and other fresh fruits and vegetables, have small amounts. As a supplement, Calcium-D-Glucarate has positive effects on reducing cancer-producing by-products.

Diet and natural herbs, may prove safer and more cost-effective than some prescription drugs that block aromotase. Natural estrogen-clearing methods appear to cause less body inflammation and less free radical damage, reducing the toxic effects of estrone metabolites while preserving the benefits of estradiol and the ‘good’ 2-hydroxyestrone.

I encourage physicians to add these important substances to their patient’s diet and hormone regimens.

Whole Foods

A diet high in vegetables and fruit, with concentrated herb extracts, in combination with a brief, intense exercise program, can help you manage bad estrogen. Many of the special phyto-chemicals are found naturally in raw cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, Bok, Choy, Napa cabbage, turnips, rutabaga, mustard and kohlrabi. However, up to 2-lbs. of raw cruciferous vegetables each day, are necessary to achieve the estrogen-clearing benefits. I suggest using a blender (not a juicer or juice extractor, as you want to retain healthy fiber) and combine raw cruciferous vegetables with some tasty high-fiber fruits, such as berries or pears. Vegetables, like bell peppers and fruit, rich in vitamin C, reduce the aromatase enzyme responsible for converting too much estrogen from testosterone. Use water rather than juice as your base, along with frozen fruit and vegetables, to give the drink a “smoothie” texture. A blender usually comes with a 48 to 60-ounce pitcher, which will provide nearly 2-4 pounds of raw vegetable material in your drink through your day.

As suggested, most people will need to supplement their diets with concentrates from DIM (diindolylmethane), Chrysin, D-Glucuronolactone, and other important natural phyto-chemicals. Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided, as they may inhibit the liver’s ability to break down estrogen. Supplements containing broccoli and cauliflower extracts can stimulate the metabolism of excess estrogen, while red grape skin extract and resveratrol, can improve liver P450 function, to help remove excess estrogen.

Di-methyl-glycine (DMG) is a methyl-group donor that helps detoxification. It assists the liver to clear harmful estrogens and lactic acid, after exercise. DMG has been reported to improve sexual function, erectile ability and to oxygenate blood to the genitals. Improved mental function and anti-aging benefits have also been reported with DMG.

Phyto-estrogens in soy and wild yams, is also worthy of consideration. Meat and animal products are correlated to an increased incidence of stroke and dementia. I believe that soy and vegetable products (instead of meat and animal products), are prudent!

DHT Studies

DHT needs to be in balance with testosterone. Dr. Edmond De Vroey, the founder of the Longevity Institute, has been using DHT gel for over 20 years to maintain prostate health by applying DHT topical gel. Applied directly to skin, DHT does not convert to estrogen. Instead, topically-applied DHT decreases estrogen levels.

Dr. Ron Rothenberg, Professor of Medicine at the University of California/San Diego, concurs with me, that the sexual and strength-enhancing benefits from DHT, is not as pronounced as testosterone, or testosterone combined with herbs that metabolize estrogen.

In a clinical study by Dr. Wang and colleagues, DHT improved total androgen levels, while significantly decreasing estradiol levels, within 14 days. Estradiol is considered the most dominant estrogen.

Dr. Eugene Shippen has conducted meta-reviews, indicating that testosterone and DHT can actually protect the prostate.

Dr. Schaison has shown that patients with decreased gonad function became more virile, developed more muscle mass and improved in sexual function, with DHT topical gel.

Using DHT Gel over a 2 year period, Dr. De Lignieres reported men, age 55 to 70, improved sexual function and decreased prostate size by an average of 15%.

DHT requires a prescription and is usually only obtained in Europe, however we use an all natural cream with bioidentical hormones as applied under the scrotum, used in the morning after you shower. The well known fact is that scrotal tissue has enzymes in the skin that can increase DHT production in the presents of androgens. This cream with natural androgens allows rapid absorption of testosterone to youthful levels and conversion to DHT to help reduce estrogens.

As with all androgen replacement therapies, signs of excessive DHT levels, such as oily skin, acne, excess hair growth, aggressiveness, or too heightened sexuality, need to be monitored.

A University of Southern California study found that 8 out of 27 men taking Finasteride for enlarged prostate, developed tumors within one year, despite the drug lowering DHT by 67%. It is my view that unidentified elevated levels of estrogen in the prostate could be the problem, not DHT. While Finasteride lowers DHT, it can cause impotency. In contrast, beta sitosterol in saw palmetto may be more effective to restore urine flow, without impotency. Beta Sitosterol improves metabolism of DHT and androgen receptor binding, while Finasteride does not. Even though Finasteride can reduce DHT in the prostate up to 80%, it only decreases the prostate size by about 20%. Some 60-65% of men get no improvement with Finasteride! Over 5% of Finasteride users suffer decreased libido, impotence, and ejaculatory disorders.

It is important to note that clearing all estrogens from adult men is not good! The aim of an estrogen reduction program is to achieve optimal levels for total male hormonal balance. When “bad” estrogens are elevated, they do not permit the hormones of youth, your good estrogens, testosterone, human growth hormone, DHEA, etc., to be at proper levels, thus potentially leading to disease and premature aging, and disability.

Ringworm Rash – Can It Become Permanent?

Ringworm rashes can produce permanent scarring of the skin. That’s why it is very important to treat ringworm the right way, so that the fungal infection doesn’t come back. Read on to learn more.

Ringworm rash is caused by the secretions of the ringworm fungi, which irritate and attack the skin. All fungi have a defensive mechanism to fight other fungi, which may compete for food and breeding ground. When fungi start growing on the skin, these chemicals attack the skin, produce rash and scarring, which can become permanent if the infection is not treated correctly. The anti-fungal drugs prescribed by most doctors rarely eliminate ringworm permanently, and usually cause people to struggle for months and years, trying to eliminate the infection. This type of fungal infection is extremely uncomfortable and can produce permanent scars.

Oral anti-fungal drugs often times work better than creams. However, both of these products have one major flaw – spores or fungi still remain trapped in hairs on the skin, and the infection returns in a matter of days, weeks or months, usually in a place, close to the previous. If you don’t treat ringworm right, your whole skin becomes affected and little scars become apparent, sometimes permanently. The ringworm infection often affects the skin on the face, and that’s a major reason why sufferers have so much trouble fighting it. In extreme cases, doctors may prescribe contact spray or gel, combined with oral medication. The combination of the two does work, but has a high rate or relapse. The natural way to deal with such infections often works best – simply create an environment in the body, in which the fungi cannot multiply. Once that is done, the infection, as well as any scarring associated with it, quickly subsides, and you are free of the condition in about 2 days. Some doctors are aware of this form of treatment, while other continue to prescribe the oral and contact medication, which often does more harm than good.

Is Yeast Infection Contagious? Speed Up Your Recovery From Yeast Infections

Yeast Infections are caused by a yeast overgrowth and is the same fungus that causes vaginal yeast infections, athlete’s foot and oral thrush. Are yeast infections contagious? This has been debated quite frequently. The spreading of a yeast infection is very much possible when direct personal contact is made. If you’ve been diagnosed with a yeast infection and have been searching for the most effective treatment then read on to learn more…

The most frequently asked question on yeast infection is -is oral thrush contagious through kissing? And are yeast infections contagious through sex? The answer is yes! How long is a yeast infection contagious for? As long as the infection lasts! When the infection is not treated properly or a course of antibiotics is not followed through regularly thrush can stay for days, weeks and even months. In the case of vaginal yeast infections, when conventional medicine fails, it’s often because the root cause of the infection hasn’t been treated and so the anti-fungal antibiotics are simply ineffective.

How to speed up your recovery from yeast infections? By creating a less favourable environment for Candida Albicans to grow and spread.

The number one cause for yeast infection – is our daily diet! Reduce intake of sugary foods. As yeast feeds on sugar, the more sugar we eat during an infection- the longer it takes to cure it. So cut down on biscuits, cakes and other sweet foods. Introduce natural yogurt in your diet. Natural yogurt contains friendly bacteria which will speed up your recovery and keep thrush infections at bay.

Are you on any antibiotics or birth control pills? Speak with your doctor about taking you off any antibiotics that you may be on now, until the infection has subsided. Candida overgrowth can be also contributed to a recent course of antibiotics you have been or are currently on. Birth control pills can also contribute to the overgrowth in yeast.

Follow through with a good personal hygiene routine. For oral thrush, brush your teeth regularly and use an antiseptic mouthwash. Change your toothbrush every 3 months. For vaginal yeast infections – use unscented soap when washing, opt for cotton underwear instead of synthetic materials, and as yeast grows in moist and warm areas it is important to avoid wearing tight clothing.

Topical antifungal creams and ointments are a good method for treating yeast infection symptoms such as pain and itchiness and are very effective if this is your first thrush infection. You’ll find them in any pharmacy. If however this is your second, third or more infection, then you need to identify and treat the root cause of the problem. The above 3 steps mentioned should help at keeping yeast infections at bay.

Penile Pain and Sounding – A Risky Auto-Erotic Adventure

Many men are perfectly content to stick to “typical” auto-erotic entertainments involving their hands, a little lotion and their penises, but others crave a more adventurous experience, even if it results in penile pain. Those interested in the much more adventurous masturbatory experience of penis sounding should be aware that it carries a significant risk of injury and is discouraged by health professionals; however, if a man does indulge in this extreme form of entertainment, he needs to ensure that his penis health is not compromised in the process.

Okay. So what is sounding?

Technically, sounding is a medical process in which a urologist insults a probe (called a sound) into the urethra of the penis. This is done to widen the urethra so that any obstructions can be located. (A sound may also be used in the urethra when a man is getting his penis pierced.) Sounding originally was developed as a way of treating gonorrhea.

Sounding as sex play

At some point, men discovered that the insertion of a sound creates a pleasurable sensation in the penis. This may go back years before the medical sound was created; men have been doing inventive things with their tools for as long as they have had hands, and it’s likely that some men were inserting things into the urethra just to see what would happen long before the medical community developed the sound.

The routine

Those who engage in sounding for sexual interest generally recommend the following:

  • The man should be lying down flat on his back before inserting the sound.
  • It is absolutely crucial that the sound is sterile before it is inserted into the penis.
  • A good amount of lubrication is also essential.
  • The penis must be soft when the sound is inserted.
  • In actuality, one is supposed to let the penis engulf the sound rather than to push the sound down the penis.
  • Keep supporting the sound once it is inserted so that it doesn’t fall over.
  • A gentle tap on the sound when it is in place will cause the vibrations that are supposed to produce pleasure.
  • If the penis becomes erect while the sound is inserted, do not remove the sound until it is soft again.

The dangers

The dangers associated with penis sounding are presumably obvious: it simply is not a good idea to stick anything down your urethra. (And some practitioners of sounding don’t stick with sounds but use a wide range of other objects which are even less appropriate and more dangerous.)

Among the problems that can result from sounding, aside from simply a sore penis, are tears and damage to the urethra and to the muscles of the penis. Serious damage can result in erectile issues, as well as in urination challenges.

Clearly, whether a man wants to risk these issues in order to explore a new auto-erotic technique is a personal decision; but if a man does wish to try sounding, he should (1) make sure that he follows all instructions included with the device exactly, and (2) be extremely careful.

The penis pain that can result from improperly sounding is not pleasurable; however, for penile pain that is more topical in nature and that results from the everyday wear and tear of a penis, men are advised to take advantage of a top drawer penis health cream (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil). In addition to helping to soothe achiness, the proper cream is going to enhance the health of the equipment in question. To get the most benefit, a man should investigate the ingredients list of each cream and select one that includes an emollient such as shea butter to moisturize and soothe the penis; a powerful antioxidant such as alpha lipoic acid, which can help slow down the aging process of penile skin cells; and vitamin C, which is an important structural component of blood vessels.

Sulfur in Cosmetics – The Secret to Beautiful Skin Forever

Sulfur is also known as the beauty mineral so sulfur in cosmetics is an excellent way to ensure beautiful skin forever.

Over the past 30 odd years an organic form of Sulfur (also spelled sulphur) has continued to help people find relief from pain conditions as well as skin problems in a very gentle manner.

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is an Organic form of Sulfur which is readily available to the body. The molecule is tiny and enters the skin easily. MSM as a source of Organic Sulfur is different to the various forms of elemental sulfur including volcanic and colloidal sulfur.

Sulfur is present in every cell of the body and in all living forms of life. Skin certainly benefits from Sulfur, delivered as MSM, and its excellent anti-aging qualities. Folk who suffer from skin problems such as Acne, pimples, psoriasis, eczema and Rosacea also see fast improvement in their conditions.

MSM can be taken orally and applied to the skin in the form of creams and gels. By using both methods the best results will be achieved.

When MSM is used in Cosmetic creams and gels, the skin softens, becomes smoother and the appearance of the complexion is improved significantly. MSM (Organic Sulfur) makes skin cell walls more permeable and this allows nutrients to enter and toxins to exit. In turn new skin cells are healthier and reproduce more healthy cells, thus improving the condition of the skin. The appearance of lines and wrinkles is greatly reduced.

When MSM is taken orally on a daily basis, the skin on the whole body is softer. This is a great example of feeding the skin from the inside out. MSM is very safe, in fact it compares with water on the official LD-50 testing guide. MSM has no relationship to sulphates, sulphites or the drug Sulfur. It is classed as a nutritional or food supplement.

Scar tissue is greatly improved when using MSM orally or in cosmetics. MSM helps prevent the cross linking of collagen the major cause of scarring. When cross linking occurs, noticeable scar tissue forms. Even old scars can be helped by applying MSM creams and gels.

Just because MSM is included in creams and gels it does not mean the results will be equal. The base product is very important. Natural products using ingredients that work in synergy make far more impact on the skin. Facial skin needs to be well hydrated with moisture (water) and oil for skin to maintain the best possible condition. The amount of sulphur or MSM used has an influence on various skin issues whether they are anti-aging or skin conditions and problems.

What is relevant however, is MSM creams and gels work very well on all skin types. You can keep looking young, with a glowing complexion for far longer by using MSM sulfur face products.

Hepatitis a in History

Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver, usually caused by a viral infection. Of the five main types of viral hepatitis, the most common is hepatitis A which has been with us for a long time.

Hippocrates, the Greek father of medicine, is believed to be the first to describe the disease in the 5th century B.C. Viral hepatitis was probably the reason why the whole nation of Israel became ill after dining on contaminated quail eggs as Numbers 11:32-33 tells us. Twenty-seven hepatitis A outbreaks have been reported in 17th and 18th century Europe and even Napoleon’s army proved to be no match to the disease which hit his troops in 1799.

Although hepatitis A is found mainly in developing countries where poverty, overcrowding, and inadequate access to clean water and food are common, industrialized nations are not spared from this problem. Epidemics have occurred in the United States as early as 1812 and in Sweden, Australia, and the United Kingdom.

In America, hepatitis A is responsible for over 143,000 infections and 80 deaths yearly. The disease costs the American public over $200 million annually. In other countries, the number of those with hepatitis A infection ranges from 10 to 50 per 100,000 people yearly.

In Eastern European countries, there are about 50 to 300 cases per 100,000 each year. The worldwide incidence of hepatitis A exceeds 1.4 million cases and costs $1.5 to $3 billion annually.

Although hepatitis A has been with us since ancient times, the virus responsible for the disease was not identified until 1973. During the 19th century, it was thought that the disease was caused by a biliary obstruction.

In 1908, scientists hypothesized that an infectious agent was involved. As more epidemics occurred in World War I, one army doctor suggested that contaminated food and water could be the means of transmitting the disease. That observation eventually proved correct.

Further studies of human volunteers during World War II showed that the infecting agent was confined to feces. Three decades later, Drs. Robert Purcell, Albert Kapikian, and Stephen Feinstone of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases saw the hepatitis A virus for the first time.

People get hepatitis A by ingesting food or water contaminated with the stools of an infected person. Transmission through saliva and oro-pharyngeal secretions, although rare, have been reported.

Once inside the body, the hepatitis A virus (HAV) attacks liver cells. But even before any of its symptoms appear, the infected person may transmit the disease to others.

“Food or drinks contaminated with fecal material that contain the virus will give you hepatitis A. The person with hepatitis A passes out the virus in his stools and spreads the disease to others,” explained Dr. Nina G. Barzaga of the Department of Medical Microbiology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines.

“If you have hepatitis A, the virus will be in your stools, blood and bile from two to three weeks before any symptoms develop. The virus disappears once jaundice develops within two to three weeks afterwards. Thus, anyone who comes into contact with your blood or feces, even before you have symptoms, may become infected with the virus,” added Dr. David E. Larson, editor-in-chief of the Mayo Clinic Family Health Book.

In others, it may take from 40 days to two months before the signs of hepatitis A appear. These include flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat, loss of appetite, muscle and joint pains. Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea or constipation may follow together with chills, weight loss, and distaste for smoking.

As the infected liver is unable to filter bilirubin (bile pigment) from the blood, jaundice sets in and urine becomes tea-colored. (Next: Jaundice not always a sign of hepatitis A.)

Athlete’s Foot – 9 Steps to Treat Athlete’s Foot

Athlete’s foot is caused by parasitic fungi which usually attack the feet. Many people are plagued by this malady, since the organisms which cause it are spread from contaminated floors surrounding pools and showers. The skin between the toes is most often attacked, but the disease may spread to any part of the feet and may break out on the hands. However, what appears on the hands is usually caused by absorbed toxins in the bloodstream rather than the organisms themselves.

As athlete’s foot develops, blisters or cracks appear in the skin, which softens, turns white, and peels off in flakes. There is itching and burning – occasionally pain. The disease is more severe in warm than in cool weather.

What to Do

  1. Keep the affected skin areas as cool and dry as possible. Wearing sandals or open-toed shoes will help.
  2. Protect other members of the household by refraining from walking barefoot about the house, especially the bathroom. Don’t use the family shower, and before using the bathtub soak the feet for at lest five minutes in a warm, saturated solution of boric acid.
  3. Every night at bedtime wash the feet briefly with mild soap and warm water. Then soak the feet for 15 to 30 minutes in a warm, saturated solution of boric acid. If boric acid solution is not available, use a warm saline solution (one tablespoonful of table salt to a quart of water). Then with a bit of gauze pick and rub away all loose bits of skin, taking care not to get any of the contaminated material under the fingernails. Then apply an athlete’s foot cream, working it carefully into the affected skin, especially between the toes.
  4. Every morning, wipe away the remaining medicated cream with dry gauze and dust the skin area thickly with antiseptic powder.
  5. Wear cotton hose, preferably white, changing it daily. To launder hose, boil for ten minutes or re-infection is certain.
  6. If sores appear on the hands, use only mild ointments. If itching is severe, apply 1 percent phenol in calamine lotion. When the sores on feet have healed, those on hands will probably disappear.
  7. To prevent a relapse after the infection appears to be cured, apply 2 percent ammoniated mercury ointment each evening, and talcum powder containing 1 percent of salicylic acid each morning, continuing the treatment for several weeks. Dust the same powder into the shoes daily.
  8. In severe cases, keep off the feet as much as possible and use the soaks and medicated cream as in (3) twice a day instead of once.
  9. In a persistent case consult a dermatologist. An antibiotic is usually helpful, but this requires a physician’s prescription.
  10. The person with athlete’s foot should be considerate of others by not using public showers or swimming pools until his infection is completely cured.

Pet Natural Health Care – Try This For Hot Spots

According to Dr. Andrew Jones, DVM, hot spots, or Acute Moist Dermatitis, are on the rise with more and more dogs, cats and various other species of pets needing help with hot spots. Dr. Jones verifies that the most common cause of re-curring hot spots is allergies. Weeding out the cause of the allergy can often take some time leaving behind the problem of hot spots. In the field of pet natural health care, this new natural remedy just may do the trick.

Dr. Jones has been testing out this rather new hot spot natural remedy, putting it to the test and finding it’s potential one to be shared with all pet owners particularly those of dogs and cats.

First, lets start with the basic pet natural health care for hot spots, how to care for the wound, and an already known natural remedy so that all readers can benefit from this information not only those who have been down this road before.

It is important to know that when it comes to natural remedies whether for you or your pet, you may need to try several different remedies, and there are usually more than just one, as nature is full of medicinal valuable qualities. Each pet in it’s breed is unique and what works for one may or may not work for another. Therefore, always try more than just one remedy if the first doesn’t take hold.

Signs Itchy, oozing, red painful area on the skin that has an odor.

Causes A local area of bacterial infected hair follicles that mostly form in the summer months. The skin can become infected by any scratch or wound causing the hot spot to form. Most common cause is some type of skin allergy.

Remove hair

Removing hair on and around the hot spot should be your first step. It is very important in order to let the skin breath, helping the hot spot to heal. Be sure to use a blunt end scissor such as nose hair scissors. Be as gentle as you can, because the hot spot area is painful and your pet will feel discomfort just from the hair being cut.

Clean the Wound

It is very important that you clean the wound by using a MILD, non perfumed antiseptic soap to clean. Use a cotton ball and gently dab the wound with the cleaner. Be sure to rinse well and not leave any soap residue behind.

Tea and Aspirin

The key to healing the hot spot is to get it to dry out and there are some very powerful natural aids that can do this and are probably already in your kitchen. One of them is black tea and the other is aspirin. Make a strong cup of black tea and dissolve an aspirin in it. Immerse a clean cloth in this solution and apply it to the hot spot for minutes. Do this four times a day.

The New Remedy – Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties and is used in quite a few other home remedies such as ear cleaning, of which it is highly effective. (I know because I recently used it to clean my dogs ears and it did a heck of a job – better than any ear cleaning solution I have ever purchased). It also houses potassium in high form, which is good for older pets, and can be consumed orally to boost the immune system. I use apple cider vinegar in my dog’s food on a daily basis.

Soak a cloth in apple cider vinegar and apply it directly to the hot spot 4 times a day.

If your pet is having re-occurring hot spots it is suggested that you begin to address the high possibility of allergies in your pet. Addressing the root of the problem will give you a cure to these hot spots, and for pet allergies Essential Fatty Acids is vital in your pets diet.

Good pet wellness practices means getting down to the root cause of acute moist dermatitis by ensuring your pet is treated for allergies through Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s) in his diet. In the mean time, or in the event your pets allergies act up, use this pet natural health care remedy of apple cider vinegar for pain relief and healing.

Complete Information on Biliary Cirrhosis

Primary biliary cirrhosis (PBC) is a disease characterized by incendiary devastation of the tiny bile ducts within the liver. PBC finally leads to cirrhosis of the liver. PBC has a global prevalence of roughly 5/100,000 and a yearly incidence of roughly 6/1,000,000. The prevalence and incidence seem to be related in distinct regions of the reality. About 90 % of patients with PBC are women. The disease affects women more frequently than men and normally occurs between the ages of 30 and 60 years. The symptoms may powerfully impact patients’ character of living and may cause incapacitation.

PBC is more popular in Northern Europeans and is less popular in populations of African ancestry. The best and almost popular symptoms of main biliary cirrhosis are fidgety rind and tiredness. Other symptoms may finally produce, including jaundice, which leads to a yellowing of the eyes and rind, fatty deposits under the rind , graceful retention and arid eyes and lip. In the late stages of the disease, some folk produce osteoporosis, arthritis, and thyroid problems. The sluggish advancement results finally in portal hypertension, the accretion of fluids, and finally liver bankruptcy and death.

Small collections of fat are often seen in the area around the eyes, a reflection of the high cholesterol values in these persons.
There is no specific therapy for primary biliary cirrhosis, but the goal generally is to relieve the symptoms. Ursodeoxycholic acid (Urdox tablets) (or URSO) may help to slow down the disease in some patients. But for some patients with very early or very late stage disease the benefit may be negligible. Itching may be treated with colesytramine (Questran) powders or ursodeoxycholic acid. Antihistamine tablets tend not to help this type of itch.

In patients whose itch is resistant to this treatment other medicines such as rifampicin (an antibiotic) may be used. Dry eyes or mouth may be treated with artificial tears or artificial saliva (eg Glandosane, Luborant, Saliva Orthana, Saliveze). As in all liver diseases, alcoholic beverages are contraindicated. In advanced cases, a liver transplant, if successful, results in a favourable prognosis. The diet should be well-balanced. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium from the intestine. If thyroid function is low, it too can be treated with medication. Diuretics (fluid pills) and reducing salt intake can help reduce edema or swelling.

Are You In Need Of Eustress?

Eustress is good stress. It is a term coined by Dr. Hans Selye, a Canadian medical doctor, in the 1950’s. We often think in terms of stress as being bad as in “I’m all stressed out.” But, if we had a life of no stress at all, we’d be bored, lethargic, unmotivated and apathetic. We need some stress in our lives. We might say that good stress, eustress, is the “spice in our life.” Of course, some people prefer more mild spice whereas others may like it hot. Each person has their own threshold for their optimal level of stress. What is eustress for one person could be “distress” for another. Distress is the word used to represent those pressures, tensions and strains upon us that can make us ill; it is the “bad” stress.

Stress, either eustress or distress, is not entirely caused by external situations such as pressures on the job or conflicts in the home. Stress is caused as much, or more, by how we interpret our situation. Still, if we are experiencing distress, we are likely not happy, healthy or performing are our best. Some of the symptoms of distress can be moodiness, irritability, depression, insomnia, excessive worry, poor memory, feeling overwhelmed, loss of appetite, decreased sex drive, substance abuse and pessimism. Though these symptoms may be caused by problems other than distress, they are, nevertheless, signs that something is not quite right.

If you are experiencing distress and telling yourself you need to get rid of or reduce your stress, perhaps that is not the best approach. It’s difficult, if not altogether impossible, to visualize a negative. It works a lot better to visualize a positive, which would be to increase the eustress in your life. What does that look like for you? What is positive stress for you? Stress reduction methods are important, such as relaxation techniques, watching a pleasant movie or something as simple as a walk in the park. But, those are not necessarily eustress activities. Eustress activities are stressful; they add some tension and pressure to our life. But, they are fun. They are exciting. They are uplifting.

Some activities that can generate eustress include: learning something new, engagement in a meaningful project, travel to a new place, meeting new people, stretching yourself outside your comfort zone. Of course, all of these can generate anxiety as well. However, anxiety and excitement are very similar. Physiologically, i.e., the body response such as sweating, increased heart rate, faster breathing, etc, it may be difficult to distinguish between anxiety and excitement. What makes a situation anxiety producing or exciting has a lot to do with how we interpret the event. Just understanding that stress can be positive and healthy, that we actually need some stress in our lives, can transform what we was distress into eustress. And, of course, the amount of stress we subject ourselves to is important. Eustress can become distress if it is prolonged. Exercise is a good example. A one-mile walk can be eustressful; but, if it should become a 10-mile walk, it may become distressful.

Stress management is part of our overall health maintenance. It is a topic of considerable importance in the medical field, as well as in business, for we all know that stress causes both physical and mental health problems. But, let us remember that we don’t want to eliminate stress. We want to keep our distress down, and our eustress up.

SSRIs and Sleep Apnea

Lexapro is the latest and most effective member of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) group of drugs used for their anti-depressant effects.

Sleep apnea is a condition characterized by intermittent pauses in breathing pauses during sleep. The number of such pauses can range from a few to hundreds during the period of sleep. Sleep apnea’s main symptom is loud snoring followed by a gasping or snorting sound when the person resumes breathing. Sleep adversely affects the quality of sleep and the person is more vulnerable to fatigue during the following day.

Depression linked to sleep apnea: Studies reveal that people with depression are 500% more likely to have breathing-related sleep disorders compared with people who don’t have depression. Sleep disorders can lead to hypertension, depressive disorders, stroke or cognitive deterioration as well as social and professional conflicts. It is therefore important to have sleep disorders treated. However, it remains a mystery to medical science how sleep disorders and depression are linked. It remains unclear whether depression causes sleep apnea or vice versa.

Correlation between Lexapro and sleep apnea: The correlation is interesting. Sleep apnea can give rise to depressive disorders. But, depression itself, or use or abuse of SSRI antidepressants such as Lexapro, can cause side-effects that include sleeping disorders. Lexapro also leads to weight gain in some patients, and weight gain is common among people with sleep apnea.

Nevertheless, it has been seen that Lexapro is effective in the treatment of sleep apnea if the doctor’s prescription and advice is meticulously followed. Self-medication with Lexapro can aggravate sleep apnea.

How To Clean A Motorcycle To A Showroom Shine

Why clean your motorcycle?

If you have paid good money for your motorcycle it is always important to make sure it looks its best. Why would you want to spend loads of money on a motorcycle just to let it go tatty and look dirty? If you are wanting to sell your motorcycle then making it look “spick and span” is a great way to catch a potential buyers eye and could even increase the value or what the buyer is willing to pay. Another great benefit of cleaning your motorcycle is can spot any faults while cleaning it which can be vital for a riders safety.

What you will need?

A must own tool in my opinion is a paddock stand. A paddock stand is perfect for any and all maintenance jobs and every motorcycle enthusiasts should own one. For the best results I recommend using a pressure washer or a high pressure spray nozzle, a paint brush cut down to around 2 inch’s and degreaser to get chain lube and grease off your motorcycle. You will also need a high standard cleaning agent and WD40 as well as some motorcycle shampoo (not washing up liquid as anything that contains salt should be avoided) and a good quality absorbent cloth to soak up access water. To finish off the motorcycle to a high standard you will need a good quality wax.

For tools you will need any and all Allen keys to remove the body work. This is essential as the amount of dirt and grim that gets under the bodywork can be harmful to your motorcycle and removing this will give it the professionally cleaned look.

Anyone can clean a motorcycle!

The only reason a person shouldn’t do this is if they have a phobia of a bit of work. There really is no other excuse or reason why someone shouldn’t be able to do this so try not to worry or get scared of breaking something. This is the basic of maintenance that will also give you the opportunity to learn about your motorcycle and the basic parts.

Step 1

Place your motorcycle on your paddock stand so you can get to all of your motorcycle and turn your rear wheel with ease. Make sure you have connected your hose to a pressure washer or high pressure pray nozzle. Try not to do this after a long ride and it would be ideal if your motorcycle was cold so the soapy water doesn’t dry to quick.

Step 2

This is very important, make sure you apply lube to the chain to prevent the links getting water in them. Use the cut down paintbrush to apply degreaser to any areas with collected grease or oil (most commonly the rear rims front sprockets etc) and gently dab it off. Do not soak the baring’s or the chain as these will dry and seize up.

Step 3

Now its time to spray your motorcycle with the cleaning agent or soapy water. Make sure you go crazy on any areas where dirt has built up and only use a light mist on the areas like the tank, screen and switchgear. Spray as much as you can on the front of the engine as this is where grime collects and if needs be loosen the grime up with a cloth or sponge.

Step 4

Time to fire up the pressure washer and blast away the loose dirt, this will prevent scratching when washing the soapy water with a sponge. Always start at the top of your motorcycle and gradually work your way down but don’t aim directly at the switchgear or any areas with bearings. Also it is advised that you use a softer spray when cleaning the radiator.

Step 5

Take your motorcycle off of your paddock stand and grab your handlebars firmly. now you have removed it from your paddock stand and have a hold of your motorcycle, lean it to the side and onto your knee. This will help your motorcycle dry off and once you have done one side make sure you do the other. Now you have dripped off the access water put your motorcycle back onto your paddock stand and remove the fairing. Soak up all excess water with a cloth and make sure you concentrate on your engine as this is more important than the bodywork.

Step 6

Apply your cleaning agent to areas which couldn’t be reached with the fairing on. These areas should be things like the radiator and cylinder head. Use the washer to to blow all the cleaning agent off but take car not to hit delicate part’s such as the battery, it would be a good idea to protect these areas with plastic bags.

Step 7

Mix the motorcycle shampoo with warm water in a bucket and use a clean sponge or cloth for cleaning. Wash the panels you have removed and then rinse it off with clean water. Leave them to dry and wash the rest of your motorcycle and again rinse with clean cold water.

Step 8

Remove access water and when your motorcycle is dry apply the WD40 to any working parts such as the switchgear and throttle.

Step 9

Now the body work is dry from earlier you can put it back on your motorcycle again and grease up the fastener threads. Make sure you also grease up areas like pivots.

Step 10

Motorcycle’s will get scratch’s over time because of loose gravel on the roads but if you see one you could always give them a touch up with paint from your local dealer. for the small scratches you can always try to buff them out while washing your motorcycle and use T-cut renovation cream if you have any.

Step 11

Now it’s time to get busy with your polish or wax to make sure it shimmers and shines in the light. Make sure you take your time when applying your wax or polish as you want it to look its best.

Now you have finished cleaning your motorcycle its times to put your feet up and enjoy a nice cold beer or go for a ride and show off your freshly cleaned motorcycle (i advice you don’t do both). I would recommend you do this at least once per month or if you are going to sell you motorcycle the day before someone comes round to see it. The more often you do clean your motorcycle the more you will lean about it and also grow attached to it.

How to Beat Emetophobia

I wanted to talk to you about how to beat emetophobia. This is an irrational fear of vomiting, which seems like an odd condition to have. Most of us would agree that none of us actually want to vomit, so this fear doesn’t really seem like that bad of a condition to have. The real problem with the condition really has nothing to do with vomiting. You have to focus on the irrationality of the fear, which shows a really ugly head that will literally take over a person’s life. This is how the fear really starts to destroy people’s lives. I want to show you how to beat emetophobia.

I’m going to bring you into the daily life of an emetophobia sufferer. These people tend to say at home and work at home if they can. They don’t want to be around strangers. Imaging being out in public, the fear really takes over. The strangers around you could have germs that could make you sick. You could be out in cold weather or rainy weather and have fear that you might catch a cold. Even eating at restaurants can be scary because you don’t know if the food is cooked completely or the kitchen is clean.

I want to show you how to beat emetophobia. You can tell by the previous paragraph that these people really suffer from a control issue. They need to be in control of the people they see, the environment they live, the food they cook, etc. They need to control everything or they might get sick. That type of thinking is anxiety. The only cure is to retrain the brain to recognize that you can’t control everything. The most important thing a person can do is live their life and that is what they have to do even though they can’t control all the variables.

Complete Guide to Treating Depersonalization/Derealization

A lot of the information here provided is based on first hand experience and research and I hope many will benefit from what it has to offer. The less time you spend dealing with anxiety the more time you have left to enjoying life and that is the goal here.

Depersonalization is a state of consciousness, a form of out of body experience, characterized by intense feelings of dissociation, identity loss, confusion and feelings of being anyone but not self. Many compare this subjective occurrence to a dream-like or automated state in which reality lacks depth along with its usual complacence. The latter definition is frequently tagged, separately, as derealization, which evokes disconnection from the surroundings compared to depersonalization, which pertains mainly to one’s ego detachment. As peculiar and disconcerting it may sound and feel, it is a fairly common and widespread issue, plaguing legions anxiety sufferers.

It is not a coincidence that so many anxious individuals, including myself, are familiar with this term, not only from reading but from experience as well. In reality, anxiety is the main cause of depersonalization and it is anxiety which when alleviated brings about lessening of the dissociation. Therefore, in case you are new to being depersonalized, let go of your excessive worries and catastrophic theories of becoming insane or stuck forever in such a deranged state of mind as nothing along those lines is going to happen – it all tracks back to a harmless, although very uncomfortable, emotion notoriously known as anxiety.

The triggers of depersonalization range from drug experimentation to natural progression of anxiety. Those suffering from anxiety are at an elevated risk of experiencing depersonalization at one point or another and might be more sensitive to experiencing depersonalization in the presence of chemical triggers such as various psychedelics, including cannabis, dissociatives (ketamine, pcp), alcohol and even coffee – anything that has the potential to aggravate anxiety. Environmental triggers can be equally relevant and include speaking in public, abuse, car accidents and any other form of trauma. Triggering depersonalization is, often sadly, easier than recovering from it, but that should be nothing to discourage you as it is very much satisfying and possible.

Depersonalization is by no means permanent, at least the negative emotions, or better yet the lack of them, which it carries along with it are at most recurrent, but not persisting at a single level. The severity and recurrence rate all depend on your anxiety levels and how well are you able to keep your anxiety in check. Therefore if you know how to address and reduce the anxiety you also know how to reduce the side effects of anxiety including depersonalization.

As you might have guessed, treating depersonalization applies the same techniques as treating anxiety does and fortunately there are literally thousands of such techniques making selection difficult, but at the same time providing a lot of opportunity to gain relief. I have tested a generous bunch myself and here are some you might want to consider:

Supplements – Anxiety, as any state of consciousness, has its biological causes, in other words any change in consciousness, be it positive or negative, can be explained at a molecular level. Anxiety may arise from a variety of malfunctions in synaptic transmission, metabolism, absorption, and from deficiencies of essential nutrients. Therefore correcting the proper function will allow for reverting to a more pleasant mindset. Consider the following supplements: B-complex, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Zinc, Magnesium, Calcium and many other minerals and vitamins which play important roles in cellular metabolism and neural firing. Incorporate them into your diet and see how you respond. In reasonable doses they possess no toxicity and carry no negative side effects so it definitely is worth a try. Additionally, there are supplements, which might not correct deficiencies, but affect other aspects of your physiology in favor of alleviating anxiety. These include L-theanine, GABA, Lecithin, Fish Oil, BCAA or Rhodiola Rosea among many others. These, generally, also posses low toxicity and therefore inflict no harm in case they bring no benefit to you.

Meditation – great for resting your mind and giving yourself some time to think about problems and devising their solutions. I recommend you to find at least 10 minutes daily, sit down and breathe deeply while allowing any thoughts to manifest and once then do simply observe and analyze them, do not react emotionally as you would normally with anxiety. What this does is allow you to become less impulsive and more resistant to anxious thoughts and situations. By not over-reacting emotionally you gain the advantage of rationalizing before acting, a characteristic practical not only to anxiety sufferers.

Analyze and address the sources of your anxiety – to be really successful at keeping your anxiety at bay you will need to look at the very core sources of your anxiety. These might be, for example, maladaptive behaviors or thinking processes you have taken up on. In my case, it were irritating, attacking thoughts, which many of you might be familiar with, that invaded my consciousness refusing to leave. For better illustration purposes let us dissect this particular problem and consequently solve it:

Example of a problem

Wanting everything to be perfect at all times and costs can be a great motivation, but only within limits. Trying to live up to unreasonably high standards and consistently obsessing about your failures or events you misinterpret as failures, although they were fairly successful relatively speaking, will trigger a difficult to reverse cascade of anxiety. Constantly asking questions of the type what if it happened differently? or why me? why am I so unlucky? am I turning crazy? successfully consumes your focus pulling you out of reality, which deserves most of your focus, into a confined department filled with profoundly negative thoughts. As you might have noticed from experience this can become quite a habit and habits are hard to break so in a sense you become addicted to anxious thinking. Unfortunately, the thinking begins to projects into behavior and starts eliciting physiological responses characteristic to anxiety such as panic attacks, racing heart and restlessness. Now the habit becomes even harder to break as you have associated it with strong emotions further imprinting the experience into your memory. See how this becomes a never-ending problem that constantly gains in force? Therefore it is important to break the habit as soon as possible to save yourself from prolonged struggling and it is why some patience and time are required to break the habit as you need to replace the practice with a healthier one.

Solution to the problem

Recognizing what the problem is and that it is an anxious response rather than a normal form of reasoning is the first move. The issue in this case is over-thinking and exaggerating so you will want to rationalize the response by questioning the negative questions/exaggerations. You might want to ask yourself: What are the chances of me going crazy considering that I have already experienced this without turning psychotic? Did it really turn out so bad? In other words, you are fighting your anxiety, which skews your view on reality, by using evidence and reason to counter its proposals. By adapting approaches like this one or similar and replacing the previous, detrimental one you successfully break the vicious loop.

Parting words:

Hopefully, by now what you are experiencing seems no longer so hopeless and unmanageable. Anxiety might have many tricks in its sleeve to surprise you with, but there are as many if not more techniques to counter those attacks. As soon as I have started working on my anxiety, instead of just waiting for it to pass on its own, I started to feel the difference between anxiety and no anxiety. Anxiety signals for a change in life-style so try to listen, decipher that signal and take the required measures.
