Europeans have been using saunas for many generations. In fact, the sauna was invented in Europe – in Finland. They have been using them a lot longer than North Americans have, and they are much more familiar with the many uses of the sauna and what it can do for the body. Many North Americans think that a sauna is just good for losing a few calories or sweating out a few of the body’s toxins, but the sauna has many more useful benefits for the body than just those two things.

Saunas have been known to cure arthritis pain, back pain, and basically any kind of chronic pain. They also can take away headaches and migraines and sinus pains. Perhaps the cure that saunas are most famous for is the cure for cold and flu symptoms.

It may be hard to believe that sitting in a small, hot room, sweating until you think you can no longer handle the heat will cure you of sneezing and coughing, but saunas have been proven to do it. The reason for this is not because of the cold weather. In spite of what your mother has always told you, walking around in your bare feet on a cold floor will not make you “catch your death of cold”! There are only two reasons why we catch more colds in the winter. One is that we are in closer contact with each other in the cold weather, and germs just don’t have as far to travel, and the number two reason is that we do not sweat very much in the winter.

Cold and flu germs are still circulating in the summer, but with the hotter weather, our skin sweats out the germs (most of the time, anyway!) before we even realize that we had any germs inside of our bodies. Naturally then, when we go to the sauna and sweat, this has the same effect as it does when we sweat in the summer time. Also, when you are sitting inside of a hot sauna for twenty or thirty minutes, your body is sweating a lot more in a shorter period of time and this can and will maximize your results. Not everyone will have the same reaction to the heat of the sauna, and not every person will have success getting rid of their cold and flu symptoms by using a sauna, but the majority of the population will be able to relieve their bodies of these sicknesses.

One important thing to remember when visiting a public sauna when you are suffering from a cold or the flu, is to bring some sanitary items along with you. I’m sure that you do not want to pass on your sickness to someone else, so it is important to remember to disinfect the area of the sauna that you sat on before you leave.

Essential Oils – Mountain Savory, Has Greater Anti-Microbial Properties Than Most Other Oils

Winter or Mountain savory (Satureja Montana) is in the mint family of botanical plants. The oil comes from steam distilling the whole flowering plant. Savory is a bushy perennial sub-shrub that grows up to 16 inches high with woody stems at the base, linear leaves and pale purple flowers. Traditionally savory has been used as a culinary herb since antiquity especially in flavoring meats. It has a sharp, medicinal, herbaceous fragrance. Anxiety and Panic Attacks: Breaking the Silence About your Anxiety

Keeping anxiety a secret from others can be a huge burden. I know, because I kept my anxiety a secret day after day, year after year for fifteen years.

Looking back, it’s hard to believe.

The secret felt like a lead anchor dragging me down. It was so heavy I could hardly move, both emotionally and physically. I was drowning emotionally.

I thought that if others found out my “secret,” they would believe what I believed about myself… that I was a worthless person who had no place in this world. They would discover that I was faking it. I was really not as intelligent, or nice, or all-together as I appeared. They would discover that I was falling apart on the inside.

Once I decided to share the “secret” of my anxiety with a safe, trusted person, guess what happened?

My anxiety lessened. I started to feel free. It was like a glass prison had been shattered. The anchor I had put around my own neck lightened considerably and I realized that there was a light at the end of the tunnel.

There WAS a way to conquer anxiety and gosh darn I was going to take back my life no matter what it took!


Anxiety makes you feel like you are alone and not “good enough.” These feelings naturally lead to silence. Breaking the silence is a powerful way to challenge the negative thoughts that perpetuate anxiety.

By breaking the silence with a trusted person, you are saying to yourself that you ARE good enough… you ARE normal…you ARE smart… you ARE capable, and much more.

I am not suggesting that you climb the top of a mountain and announce to the entire world that you experience anxiety. It’s up to you to decide when and with whom you would like to share.

If and when you decide to share, don’t start this conversation when the TV is blaring, the kids are clamoring for dinner, you’re studying for a big exam, or you’re rushing to get ready for work. Choose a quiet, private time so that you have the time and space to speak and the other person has the time and attention to listen.

When you decide to “come out of the closet,” here are a few tips to keep in mind.

Choose a “safe,” trusted person who loves you unconditionally. This person could be a parent, spouse, sibling, a close relative, or a good friend.

Expect that the person may not know how to respond or may not respond the way you’d like, even though they want to help you. It might help if you ask for what you desire up front when you broach the topic, for example:

“I have something important to tell you about what I’m going through right now. I don’t expect you to understand or to “fix” this problem. I just ask you to be here for me and keep that unconditional love coming my way as I work through the recovery process. Some ‘I love you’s’ and hugs would be great!”

Some people find it easier to tell a more emotionally detached third party rather than a loved one, and that’s OK too. You might choose a psychologist, minister, or counselor with whom to share.

If you don’t know of anyone with whom to share, do an Internet search for an online anxiety support group and break your silence there. Another alternative is to record yourself talking about your anxiety. Then play the recording back and listen compassionately, acting as your own safe person.

The Harsh Truth About Thrombosed Hemorrhoids

Exercise can also raise HDL levels. Most studies have shown that aerobic exercise can increase HDLL by 3-6%.

The Benefits of Blood Letting in Pain Management

So, hospitals have now using leeches in medical practice? There is nothing new in this.

Bleeding using leeches was normal practice in western medicine in the 1830s until it was discarded for more sophisticated techniques. In fact, the medicinal use of leeches dates back to the beginnings of civilization with mention made of it in Egyptian tombs and in ancient Chinese writings. The principle behind the use of leeches is to drain off stagnant blood.

Recently I have become particularly impressed with the great health results that can be achieved by blood letting (taking out stagnant blood). Blood letting is a fairly standard practice in acupuncture and possibly other alternative therapies.

Unfortunately, blood now has a bad vibe attached to it. Most people want to avoid contact with unknown blood.

However, if people could rise above these objections they would find that the benefits from shedding a little blood (and by a little, I mean just that) are profound. Just a couple of drops of blood taken from an acupuncture point can have a significant effect on blood pressure for example, in a matter of two hours.

Providing that a patient can afford to lose a little blood there are great benefits of bleeding (with some exceptions).

Firstly, the skin in the affected area is broken with a diabetic lance and then the blood is squeezed out. If a greater amount of blood needs to be extracted, a specially designed glass or plastic cup is applied over the site. The skin sucks into the cup and the pressure causes a large volume of blood to be extracted. Sometimes such a large amount comes out that the cup quickly fills with blood, making this quite a messy procedure. Where the underlying blood has not been circulating for quite some time, the blood that comes out will be dark in color, and fizzing or bubbling due to the heat in the area.

Cupping kits are sold at acupuncture suppliers. I have noticed glass cups for sale in Chinese supermarkets, although these require the use of a flame to cause them to attach to skin. The cupping kits used by acupuncturists usually work with a pumping device which is preferable because it is much easier to control the amount of flesh (and hence blood) that is sucked into the cup. The cup can sometimes be quite painful if it is applied to certain tender areas.

Situations that scream out for bleeding are red swollen lumpy areas such as gout on feet. I once treated a man who had been unable to walk for a week due to an enormous red lump diagnosed as gout, below his big toe. After the lump was pricked and a fair bit of blood squeezed out, the swelling quickly subsided and the man was astonished that the pain had dissipated and he was now able to walk without any discomfort. No other treatment would have worked so rapidly. He apparently has had no recurrence of the condition since that day.

Another person who had been hit by a baseball bat showed me his shin which was now a mottled black color. After pricking the entire area, a huge amount of blood was drained out over the course of an hour. The blood which oozed out was black in color and thick. However, at the end of the treatment his shin looked a whole lot better in color and appearance and his leg was much less painful. If the stagnant blood had remained in his shin it would have not only have been painful, it would have restricted fresh blood and qi circulation in the leg.

A few years ago I suffered from a heel spur, and at times I was in such agony I could only crawl around the house. The relief I experienced from pricking and cupping my heel and foot was absolutely fantastic. The internal heat in my foot was so great that the blood which poured from the pricked area sprayed into the cup with volcanic fury.

The beauty of blood letting is that it draws out the old, stagnant, overheated and often black blood, and allows the body to replace it with new, clean blood. Just a few drops of blood squeezed out makes a profound difference to the blood flow in the entire body.

Naturally, this is a medical practice and as with all things medical, should be used with caution. In particular, there are several contraindications for the use of cups. They should used not be used in the abdomen or lower back of pregnant women; on people with cardiac problems, diseases of the blood vessels, anemic or weak patients; on the throat region or when organs are inflamed or perforated. There are other contraindications which should be studied.

Bleeding should never be practiced on someone taking any blood thinning medication e.g. Warfarin, as the patient will not stop bleeding. Diabetic patients and patients with cardiac disorders should not be blood let. Anemic or weak patients should not be blood let as they can not afford to lose blood.

The purpose of this article was to draw attention to the use of blood letting as an alternative treatment to prescription medication. However it is recommended to seek the advice of a trained therapist before using it.

Million of Americans suffer from toenail fungus. Toenail fungus causes the nails to get thick and change color. There are a number of treatments for onychomycosis. Forget about all those home remedy cures you find on the Internet. Most of them don’t work and leads to frustration without results. Your main goal should be to treat toenail fungus as soon as possible so it doesn’t spread to other nails and other people. Yes, toenail fungus is contagious so be careful. If your condition is serious do seek medical advice but also be aware that prescription drugs have side effects, effects that even the medical professionals don’t have complete answers too, or don’t want to tell you about. Prescriptions are very expensive and may require a long term treatment that is enough to break anyone’s bank account especially if your don’t have medication insurance.

If you have medication insurance and your a diabetic, your insurance company may consider onychomycosis a medical condition, and will cover the treatment. Other medical insurance package may also cover treatment so be sure to ask before you seek treatment.

Other treatments to consider of course are topical treatments that have been shown to be highly effective and of course, safer than prescriptions. They are also very affordable which saves you allot of money especially if you cant really afford it or have no medical insurance. A safe topical should consist of only natural ingredients and should be easy to apply. Whatever product you decided on, make sure that you follow the instructions. If the product states that you should use it 3 times per week then make sure you do exactly that otherwise you may not see the results your expecting. Many people buy a product but don’t follow the recommended application then they wonder why its not working as well as it should.

Causes of Sudden High Blood Pressure – The Silent Killer

Depending on your daily activity, your blood pressure constantly changes. Unpredictable causes of sudden high blood pressure can also be related to your mental status or even the time of the day. In most cases, if your blood pressure has been stable for most of your life, a sudden onset of high blood pressure measurements could return to normal.

If your blood pressure is usually normal, physicians generally repeat a second and third blood pressure reading before becoming concerned.
