However, the two areas characterising the condition – binging and purging – can be found in old texts from around A.D. 400 – 500. On religious feasting days, it states in the Hebrew Talmud that those “seized with bulimy” on the day, should be treated by feeding them “unclean” things, which would supposedly cure the binge by putting them off their food. Additionally, the word bulimia can be found in many different texts from the fourteenth century to modern times.

I discovered why a heartbreak is called exactly that on a Wednesday afternoon in September. All it took was six words to fill my world with immense physical pain; my heart stopping for a moment, my heart dropping into the soles of my feet, my heart breaking into a thousand pieces inside me.

I can’t be with you anymore.

His words and the way they brought me to my knees on my bedroom floor still haunt me today, almost four months later. Triggered by the subtlest sights and inconspicuous smells, I replayed that day over and over in my wake and in my sleep, looking for answers in the past, picking at the scabs of the wound and refusing to move on.

Time dragged on in what seemed liked forever, and the days blurred into long nights as winter crept its viscous fingers through the cracks in the doors. I lived monotonously, completely devoid of life. My friends and family urged me to move on, to forget, but I was too comfortable being miserable; the pain in my heart made me feel alive in a way that I had never felt before. Was I really capable of feeling this way? Was I that raw? That human? I knew what love was, but desolation?

And when everything else is gone, are we left with nothing but anguish?

The ache shadowed my every move and eventually became my friend. I nurtured it with tears and nightmares and confided in it with my darkest thoughts until it grew into something stronger than any other force I have ever encountered -self love. And it wasn’t until my ex’s name was brought up in a random conversation two months later that I realized that I hadn’t thought of him for an entire week.

My heart was beginning to mend its broken pieces with a little bit of help from time and pain, and I found myself fully immersed into ‘project me’ where I was figuring out what I wanted, and most importantly, my worth. The next few weeks felt like laying in a meadow, watching the clouds contort into different shapes as they passed by, and giggling as the soft breeze tickled the hair on my arms. I was still tender, but my heart was beating again; I could hear it pulsating in my ears and I could feel it vibrating in my wrists. I was alive. The worst was over, but was it really that bad? Had I not come out of it a stronger woman?

My four year relationship came to a sudden halt, and with it, shredding the blueprint of a future I so badly wanted to share with someone I truly cared for. The memory of it still sends shivers down my spine in the same way tremors continue to shake the grounds after an earthquake, but with each shudder I am reminded of how invincible I am. I am no longer moved by sad songs, nor do I tear up every time I go to a familiar place – I have finally set fire to all our memories because holding on to them was only causing more pain.

And so, as I sit here, writing and erasing and rewriting my thoughts, I realize that the healing process is far from over. Some days are easy, but others are equally hard; the yearning I have to reach out to him, to hear his voice, to see if he is okay cradles me every now and then, but I remain steadfast in my pursuit of self-fulfillment. And if I have to carry a fractured heart in my chest, a heart that is too afraid to beat for anyone else but myself, then so be it. Break ups are never easy, but with time, and most importantly, a grieving process, they become more bearable until we ease into an improved version of ourselves. We may never feel the same kind of love again, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t’ be better, more fulfilling, more nourishing.

I read hundreds of articles on how to cope with break ups and at first they seemed recklessly written and juvenile. Time will heal, be patient, it’s time to focus on yourself. They bombarded me with notions of deluding myself when all I wanted to do was lock myself away and cry until my blood ran dry. But now, looking back at my journey I realize that every word I had read was absolutely true. I had to be patient and trust in the inevitable course of time passing.

Like sore throats and fractured bones, broken hearts heal too. And although it leaves behind a more permanent scar, the wound becomes an opening into the most beautiful parts of us. There is a time for pain and, in return, a time for healing.

Losing Sexual Appetite at a Very Early Age

Nowadays, a number of women losing sexual desire is increasing. The loss of sexual yearning is a hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) which is a form of dysfunction among women of all ages. This finding however is related to declining hormones, job stress, relationship issues, and other problems experienced by women.

No matter how frequent a couple has a sexual intercourse, it still has nothing to do with sexual craving or satisfaction. However, when a woman experiences a serious decrease in interest in sex, then it’s considered a problem. That sexual drive declines naturally with age based on physiological factors. But sexual desire also encompasses interpersonal and psychological factors that create a willingness to be sensual or sexual.

According to studies, the following are the common causes for a loss of sexual desire and drive in women:

1. Interpersonal relationship issues. This refers to the problems on partner performance, lack of emotional satisfaction with the relationship, the birth of a child, and becoming a caregiver for a loved one can decrease sexual desire.

2. Socio-cultural influences. This refers to job stress, peer pressure, and media images of sexuality which can negatively influence sexual desire.

3. Low testosterone. Testosterone affects sexual drive in both men and women. Testosterone levels peak in women’s mid-20s and then steadily decline until menopause, when they drop dramatically.

4. Medical problems: This refers to mental illnesses such as depression, or medical conditions, such as endometriosis, fibroids, and thyroid disorder which is also found out to affect a woman’s sexual drive both mentally and physically.

5. Medications: Certain drugs for blood pressure and oral contraceptives can lower sexual drive in many ways, such as decreasing available testosterone levels or affecting blood flow.

6. Age. Blood levels of androgens fall continuously in women as they age.

Since the loss of sexual desire in women is caused by a combination of physical and psychological factors, it usually requires more than one treatment approach to cure the problem.

Many of these women have no problems with having orgasms. Rather, they have no real desire to have sex and their minds are not turned on by the prospect of love-making which is really true especially when the mind is somewhere else when doing this act.

However this lack of libido is only temporary for many females since a woman’s desire for sex is based on a complex interaction of many components affecting intimacy, including physical well-being, emotional well-being, experiences, beliefs, lifestyle and current relationship.

Moreover, a wide range of illnesses, physical changes and medications can cause a low sex drive such as:

1. Sexual problems. When a woman experiences pain during sex or an inability to orgasm, it can hamper the desire for sex.

2. Medical diseases. A number of nonsexual diseases can also affect desire for sex, such as arthritis, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease and neurological diseases.

3. Medications. Many prescription medications – including some antidepressants and anti-seizure medications – are notorious libido killers.

4. Lifestyle habits. A glass of wine may make us feel amorous, but too much alcohol can spoil our sex drive; the same is true of street drugs. And smoking decreases blood flow, which may dampen arousal.

5. Surgery. Any surgery, especially one related to our breasts or our genital tract, can affect your body image, sexual function and desire for sex.

6. Fatigue. Exhaustion from caring for young children or aging parents can contribute to low sex drive. Fatigue from illness or surgery also can play a role in a low sex drive.

For many women, emotional closeness is an essential prelude to sexual intimacy. So problems in our relationship can be a major factor in low sex drive. Decreased interest in sex is often a result of ongoing issues, such as lack of connection with our partner, unresolved conflicts or fights, poor communication of sexual needs and preferences and infidelity or breach of trust.

Loss of desire can often be corrected, but we need to look carefully at the causes of the problem. A high proportion of women do eventually achieve a return to normal libido.

Coronary Heart Disease

The term coronary heart disease covers a group of clinical syndromes arising particularly from
failure of the coronary arteries to supply sufficient blood to the heart. They include angina
peactoris, coronary thrombosis or heart attack and sudden death without infarction.
There has been a marked increase in the incidence of heart disease in recent years. Heart
attacks have become the number one killer in Western countries. They rank third in India, after
tuberculosis and infections. The disease affects people of all ages and both sexes, although it is
more common in men than in women, especially among those aged 40-60 years.
The heart, the most vital organ in the body, is a muscle about the size of a clenched fist. It starts
working even before birth inside the womb. Weighing less than 350 grms, it pumps about 4,300
gallons of blood per day through the body and supplies oxygen and nourishment to all the
organs. It beats 1,00,000 times a day, continuously pumping the blood through more than
60,000 miles of tiny blood vessels. The heart, in turn, needs blood for its nourishment which is
supplied by coronary arteries Coronary arteries are so called because they are arranged rather
like a crown or carona. In case of strain, etc., the heart needs more blood and the arteries, under
normal conditions, adjust themselves to the increased flow.
In the event of narrowing or hardening of the arteries on account of their getting plugged with
fatty substances, the flow of blood is restricted. The heart then does not get sufficient oxygen.
This condition is known as ischaemia of the heart or angina pectoris. In this condition , exercise
or excitement provokes severe chest pain and so it limits the patient’s physical activity. It serves
as a warning to slow down and prompt preventive measures will prevent a heart attack.
If the narrowed arteries get blocked due to a clot or thrombus inside them, causing death of that
portion of the heart which depends upon the choked arteries, it is called a heart attack or
coronary thrombosis. It may lead to death or heal, leaving a scar. Patients with healed lesions
may be severely disabled or may be able to resume normal life with restrictions in their physical
activities.
Symptoms
A common symptom of heart disease is shortness of breath which is caused by the blood being
deprived of the proper amount of oxygen. Another common symptom is chest pain or pain down
either arm. Other symptoms are palpitation, fainting, emotional instability, cold hands and feet,
frequent perspiration and fatigue. All these symptoms may be caused by many other disorders.
Appropriate tests and studies are, therefore, essential to establish the true nature of these
symptoms.
Causes
The basic causes of heart diseases are wrong dietary habits, faulty style of living and various
stresses. The famous Framingham Heart Study of the National Heart and Lung Institute
identified seven major risk factors in coronary heart disease. These are : (i) elevated blood levels
of cholesterol, triglycerides and other fatty substances ( ii) elevated blood pressure (iii) elevated
blood uric acid levels (mainly caused by high protein diet), (iv) certain metabolic disorders,
notably diabetes, (v) obesity, (vi) smoking, and (vii) lack of physical exercise. Each or a
combination of these risk factors can contribute to heart disease. Most of them are of dietary
origin. These risk factors can be controlled by changing one’s life style and readjusting the diet.
Constant worry and tension stimulates the adrenal glands to produce more adrenaline and
cartisons. This also contributes to constricted arteries, high blood pressure and increased work
for the heart.
Treatment
The fundamental conditioning factor in all heart diseases is the diet. A corrective diet designed to
alter body chemistry and improve the quality of general nutritional intake can, in many cases,
reverse the degenerative changes which have occurred in the heart and blood vessels.
The diet should be lacto-vegetarian, low in sodium and calories. It should consist of high quality,
natural organic foods, with emphasis on whole grains, seeds, fresh fruits and vegetables. Foods
which should be eliminated are all white flour products, sweets, chocolates, canned foods in
syrup, soft drinks, squashes, all hard fats of animal origin such as butter, cream and fatty meats.
Salt and sugar should be reduced substantially. The patient should also avoid tea, coffee,
alcohol and tobacco.
The essential fatty acids which reduce serum cholesterol levels and minimise the risk of
arteriosclerosis can be obtained from sunflower seed oil, corn oil or safflower oil. Several studies
have indicated that garlic can reduce the cholesterol level in persons whose body normally
cannot regulate the cholesterol fractions. Other important cholesterol lowering foods are alfalfa
and yogurt. Lecithin helps prevent fatty deposits in arteries. Best food sources are unrefined,
raw, crude vegetable oils, seeds and grains.
Fruits and vegetables in general are highly beneficial in the treatment of heart disease. Seasonal
fruits are quite effective heart tonics. Apples especially contain heart stimulating properties and
the patients suffering from the weakness of heart should make liberal use of apples and apple
jams. Fresh grapes, pineapples, oranges,custard apples, pomegranaes and coconut water also
tone up the heart. Grapes are effective in heart pain and palpitation of the heart and the disease
can be rapidly controlled if the patient adopts an exclusive grapes diet for few days. Grape juice,
especially will be valuable when one is actually suffering from a heart attack.
Indian gooseberry or amla is considered an effective home remedy for heart disease. It tones up
the functions of all the organs of the body and builds up health by destroying the heterogeneous
elements and renewing lost energy.
Another excellent home remedy for heart disease is onions. They are useful in normalising the
percentage of blood cholesterol by oxidising excess cholesterol. One teaspoon of raw onion
juice first thing in the morning will be highly beneficial in such cases.
Honey has marvellous properties to prevent all sorts of heart disease. It tones up the heart and
improves the circulation. It is also effective in cardiac pain and palpitation of the heart. One
tablespoonful daily after food is sufficient to prevent all sorts of heart troubles.
Patients with heart disease should increase their intake of foods rich in vitamin E, as this vitamin
promotes the functioning of the heart by improving oxygeneration of the cells. It also improves
the circulation and muscle strength. Many whole meal products and green vegetables,
particularly outer leaves of cabbage are good sources of vitamin E. The vitamin B group is
important for heart and circulatory disorders. The best sources of vitamin B are whole grains.
Vitamin C is also essential as it protects against spontaneous breaches in capillary walls which
can lead to heart attacks. It also guards against high blood cholesterol. The stress of anger, fear,
disappointment and similar emotions can raise blood fat and cholesterol levels immediately but
this reaction to stress can do little harm if the diet is adequate in vitamin C and pantothenic acid.
The richest sources of vitamin C are citrus fruits.
The following is the suggested diet for persons suffering from hypertension or some disorder of
the heart :
On rising : Warm water with lemon juice and honey or fresh fruit juice of apple,grapes, orange,
pineapple.
Breakfast : Fresh fruit such as apples, grapes, pears, peaches, pineapple, orange, melons, one
or two slices whole meal toast, yogurt, skimmed milk or soya milk.
Mid-morning : Fresh fruitjuice or coconut water.
Lunch : Combination salad of vegetables such as lettuce, cabbage, endive, carrots, cucumber,
beetroot, tomato, onion and garlic. One or two slices of whole meal bread or chappatis, curd,
fresh grapes and other fruits in season.
Mid-afternoon : One or two wholemeal biscuits and fruit juice.
Dinner : Fresh fruit or vegetable juice or soup, two lightly cooked vegetables, one or two whole
wheat tappets.
The patient should also pay attention to other laws of nature for health building such as taking
moderate exercise, getting proper rest and sleep, adopting the right mental attitude and getting
fresh air and drinking pure water.
Water Treatment
The use of an ice bag on the spinal area between the second and tenth thoracic vertebrae for 30
minutes three times a week, a hot compress applied to the left side of the neck for 30 minutes
every alternate day and massage of the abdomen and upper back muscles are water treatments
which are beneficial in cases of heart disease.
Hot foot and hand baths are excellent for relieving the pain of angina pectoris. To this may be
added hot packs on the chest over the heart for one minute and a cold pack applied alternately
for five minutes.
Asanas such as shavasana, vajrasana, and gomukhasna, yogic kriyas like jalneti and
pranayamas such as shitali, sitkari and bhramari are also helpful in providing relief to heart
patients.

The Boss from Hell: Quick to Criticize, Slow to Praise

So you have a boss who dumps all over you the moment things go wrong, but never seems to notice when things go right. Ouch.

Jamie is a hard-working, cheery, full-of-ideas kind of manager. She leads two high-functioning teams who support each other very well. So why does Jamie come to work with a stomachache every day? Why does her staff often feel paralyzed? It’s because Jamie’s boss, VP of Client Services, finds fault every day with Jamie and her team members. He seems to go out of his way to criticize. When the VP is away, the group functions like a well-oiled machine. When he is there, they gossip, avoid tough problems, and try to make themselves invisible.

As a defensive strategy, Jamie visits her boss every morning to take a reading of his mood and pre-empt any explosions. She tells him first thing what she and her team accomplished the day before, what issues they face, and how they are handling them. Sometimes the strategy works, sometimes it doesn’t and the explosions come anyway. The constant stomachache is the price Jamie pays for trying to figure out how to please this overly critical boss.

Most of us can take a little criticism from our bosses from time to time when we’ve messed up, or haven’t quite done something right. It can be tremendously demotivating, however, when criticism seems to be the only type of feedback we get, and we don’t receive recognition for our positive contributions.

Chances are your boss isn’t intentionally trying to demotivate you. It’s doubtful that he has some master plan to make your life miserable. More likely, she has fallen into the all-too-common management trap of looking for things that are wrong instead of things that are right. Of course, this particular behaviour is not unique to managers. Many parents, coaches and peers (perhaps even you and me), fall into this trap.

If you have to deal with overly critical behaviour, there’s a technique worth trying. The next few times your boss criticizes you, follow this three-step process:

1. Apologize

2. Let your boss know that you’ll correct the problem

3. Finish off with a comment that gently reminds her that you do, occasionally, get things right. For example:

“Gee, and here I thought you were coming over to tell me what a good job I did on that last project.” Say it with a smile, then go about the business of fixing your mistake.

It may take a few repetitions, but your boss should eventually get the message that you might like some positive encouragement.

Now, here’s the part for the really courageous and truthful among you. You can actually tell your boss what you want. If you don’t say anything, don’t expect your boss to read your mind, or to be aware of how the constant criticism affects you. Say something like:

“I do appreciate feedback. It helps me improve. In addition to criticism, I also appreciate hearing about what I do well. It helps me know what to keep doing.”

While you can’t control how your boss talks to you, you can control the quality of your own communication, and how you respond. Good luck.

How to Pick Out a Pitbull Puppy

A few months ago, I started looking for a pit-bull puppy and asking people who owned Pitbulls how I should go about getting one. The answers were shocking, but after some research and hard work the results were very pleasant. I wrote this article to allow you to find the puppy of your dreams.

1.Rescue is ALWAYS an option. There are tons of beautiful and well behaved dogs being put down everyday! Stop by a few shelters around where you live and see if you can find a dog right for you. The problem with those is, you never know who the parents were. A lot of times they were fighting dogs, which by no means will make your dog human aggressive but dog aggressive a lot of the time they will be. Dog aggression is a liability at times if its not kept under strict supervision.

2.Finding the right breeder is hard. Make sure you are buying from a knowledgeable and responsible person, who cares about his dogs. Not some punk who is trying to just make a buck. If he starts asking YOU a bunch of questions about owning a dog, don’t be surprised, they are checking if you know anything about raising a pitbull or if you are going to use him/her for illegal purposes. The breeders that care about where their puppy is going is a lot of the time a good breeder.

3.Make sure you do a lot of research on how to raise a Pitbull and the responsibilities that being a Pitbull owner entails. All dogs are cute when they are puppies, especially Pitbulls! That is one of their curses, but when they get older and bigger, people don’t know how to handle all that energy and give it to a shelter.

4.Ask for references to other people that have purchased puppies, call them up and go visit them to see what kind of puppies are produced.

5. Talk to the breeders, call them up, email them, and go visit their houses.

If they take too long to answer your calls, or emails, then you dont need that kind of breeder. Imagine when they already have your money, do you think they will answer your phone call?! Or when you get your puppy, will he be willing to help you raise it with tips and suggestions?

6. Don’t put down deposits on your puppy before going to see the puppy!

7. Make sure you meet the parents of the puppy and see their health records. Check for diseases, illnesses, hernias, ACL problems, and other things that your vet can tell you to check for. Make sure he gives you references to the vet and health clearances are there for you to see.

8. Being registered with the UKC and/or the ADBA isn’t usually that big of a deal because almost anyone can do it. They don’t require any genetic testing.

9.When looking at the Pedigree, “CH” Champion and “GRCH” signify strong blood lines. With Champion breed dogs you have a greater chance at getting a great dog. Dogs with those titles are bread for personality in the show ring and great looks.

10. Make sure the parents and the puppies live indoors, and not outdoors. This builds a strong foundation for the puppy as it grows up. Look for outdoor pens, or kennels.

11. When seeing the puppies make sure they are energetic and playing with each other. By 4-5 weeks, this should be happening already. Puppies sleep a lot, but when they wake up make sure they aren’t weak, or indifferent as this could be a sign of illness.

12.If they are given food, make sure you see them eating it, as lack of hunger can also be a sign of weakness.

13.The dog should be confident and playful in approaching you, at around 6-8 weeks you can do most of these tests with good results. Its called the Puppy Temperament test. According to what you want, this will help you determine which puppy is a better match for you.

14.No skin problems, coat should be smooth and shiny. No sores or bumps, make sure the puppies aren’t scratching to hard as that could indicate fleas.

Check for dull or missing patches of fur and red spots that could be mange.

15. You should not see discharge coming from the eyes, ears, or nose. No red tracks by the eyes. This could be signs of Parvo virus and it is very dangerous and a lot of dogs die from this each day. Don’t let the breeder tell you that its normal, and the puppy was just crying or something.

16. Puppies should have a clean living area where they spend their time.

17.Puppies should walk and run without any problems. Otherwise it can indicate hip dysplasia.

18. You should not see the ribs sticking out from the skin, that can indicate malnourishment. Puppies should have formed stool and no diarrhea. Their bellies shouldn’t be distended (both signs of worms).

19. Look for temperament in both parents. Can they both be around people; even strangers and behave appropriately. At the age of 2, dogs sometimes show signs of aggression and become biters.

20. Make sure the parents aren’t too heavy because that can cause ACL and heart problems among other issues.

21. Make sure the breeder feeds them quality food, Make sure its not supermarket food or food you see commercials for on TV. If he feeds them RAW that is definitely a plus.

22. Ask the breeder if he stands behind his pups, if the puppy gets a puppy illness if he will take it back or pay for its medical bills.

These tips are the things that helped me get the puppy of my dreams, and it will help you get a puppy of your dreams as well.

Can Aspirin Help Reduce Heart Attacks Or Strokes?

Aspirin has been used to reduce pain and and fevers for more than 100 years. According a study, people who took anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin may reduce your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Aspirin prevents platelets in the blood from clumping together and forming clots. Blood clots can reduce or completely cut off blood flow to vital organs, including the heart and the brain. Interfere with that blood flow and you’re at risk for a heart attack or a stroke.

It has also shown promise in preventing other diseases associated with free radicals. Free radicals are organic molecules responsible for aging, tissue damage, and possibly some diseases.

Professor Peter Weissberg, Medical Director of the British Heart Foundation, said: “We know that a small daily dose of aspirin can reduce the risk of a heart attack in people with angina and in those who’ve had a heart attack. In these cases, this potential benefit outweighs the risk of internal bleeding, which is a side effect of aspirin.

This study sought to determine if people with evidence of artery disease in their legs – which raises the risk of having a heart attack in future – would also benefit from taking daily aspirin.

Scientist discover that aspirin is safe when used as directed. But for other people aspirin can cause side effects. Side effects can include stomachache or nausea in up to 20 percent of patients, and stomach or intestinal ulcers and bleeding in 2 percent to 4 percent of those who take the drugs for a year, especially people over 60. The stomach bleeding can occur with little warning, and it can be fatal. Even low doses of aspirin can cause stomach bleeding in some people.

Should healthy people take aspirin to prevent heart attacks?

Healthy people who take aspirin in the hope of preventing a heart attack or stroke are doing themselves more harm than good, medical experts have warned.

If you have high blood cholesterol, diabetes, a family history of heart disease, or other major risk factors for a heart attack or coronary heart disease, talk to your doctor about what you can do to reduce your risk of heart attack and heart disease and whether an aspirin regimen is right for you. Your doctor will weigh your risk of heart attack or heart disease against the potential side effects of long-term aspirin use

Should you take aspirin if you’re having a  a heart attack ?

If you think you are having a heart attack you should dial 999 immediately for an ambulance.  While you wait for the ambulance to come, chew 1 adult-strength aspirin (325 mg) or 2 to 4 low-dose aspirin (81 mg).  Don’t take the aspirin if you’re allergic to aspirin. By calling 911 and taking an ambulance to the hospital, you may be able to start treatment before you arrive at the hospital.

Studies show that taking aspirin as soon as a heart attack is suspected may reduce the risk of death or complications from the heart attack.

Aspirin is the only OTC drug that has been shown to prevent heart attack or stroke.  Although acetaminophen (for example, Tylenol®), ibuprofen (Advil®, Motrin®IB), and naproxen sodium (Aleve®) are, like aspirin (Bayer®), good drugs for pain and fever, only aspirin has demonstrated a beneficial effect for heart attack and stroke prevention.

However, it is important that you should talk with your doctor to help you decide if an aspirin regimen is right for you.
