Psoriasis Eczema Skin Symptoms and a New Psoriasis Eczema Treatment

Eczema and Psoriasis are the two names given to a range of harsh skin conditions that for the patient are disturbing and often painful to endure. This breakdown and deterioration in the skin are frequently also referred to as dermatitis in more general terms.

Eczema skin symptoms with the dryness, inflammation can become even more of a problem if infection gains hold. But in its many different and specific formulations Psoriasis is the more caustic and irritating, although none of these skin problems can not be passed on from person to person.

Many things can act as a trigger for dermatitis such as certain medically prescribed drugs such as beta blockers and lithium based medicine. A strong genetic link has been established in people with regularly occurring dermatitis.

Guttate Dermatitis is identified by a rash, red lumps raised skin lesions that occur mainly on the arms legs, front of abdomen and back area. Commonly occurring after a throat infection known in medical circles as streptococcul viral infection.

Over three quarters of sufferers that have dermatitis have Plaque dermatitis. This particular type can occur on any part of the body in large accumulations of red lumpy raised tracts of blisters with flaking white scaly surface lying over it. When it forms on the knee joints, elbow, underarm or neck it can crack and bleed and can lead to possible further infection.

Like most forms of dermatitis it can settle down for a period of weeks and flare up again and last for a longer or shorter period of time.

Teens and Depression

I was as a teen in high school when I first started noticeing that I was suffering from a deep lingering sadness that never went away, which I discovered later to be a severe bipolar disorder. (A disorder that causes one to fluctuate back and forth between mania and depression.) It was especially difficult for me as a teen because I did not understand at the time what I was feeling and I felt alone and did not know where to turn.

That was the beginning of a very long road of depression, anxiety and even thoughts of suicide for me. I never really wanted to hurt myself, but I did not want to live either. It was hard for me to face my family and friends and especially other kids in the school where I already felt like a nobody and try to act like everything was normal in my life. I did not even know what normal was. It was easy to look at everyone else around me such as my friends and peers at school, and wonder if I was the only one that felt that way and if anyone else was hurting on the inside as well. I would cry out in my mind and wish that someone would hear me and know that I needed help and yet pray at the same time they did not hear me because I would be mortified and embarrassed if anyone was to find out just how badly I was falling apart on the inside. I was accused and confused.

Back then, depression had the stigma of being a sign of weakness or that you were mentally unstable. It was just starting to catch the attention of psychologists and psychiatrists doing research that maybe depression was caused by your inner child being wounded and books were beginning to be published on how to heal the wounded child within. Their theories held a lot of truth (and still do), but I could not help but feel like I had to hold on to my secret.

Thank goodness today many more years of research and thought have gone into combating this epidemic which is just as prevalent, if not more so now in teens. I have received the help I have needed through my life and there before want to use my experience to help bringing awareness to other teens who may also be suffering from this debilitating disorder in silence.

One may ask the question, how do I know if I am depressed or if my depression is serious enough to seek help? To these questions, let me share some guidelines:

There are several forms of depression; SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder or Winter Depression / Summer Depression), Bipolar Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Panic Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, only to name a few.

It is important to know the difference between occasional bouts of feeling down or low because of a situation or experience in one's life and a serious mental disorder, such as Depression, that could be life threatening if left untreated.

For example, feeling down from a break up or loss of a loved one may cause temporary sadness and feelings of unhappiness and loneliness which should diminish within a short matter of time. However a more serious case of depression or mental disorder causes feelings of hopelessness, loss of energy, bouts of non-stop crying, panic attacks, anxiety, aching, loss of interest in your regular activities and even isolating oneself from loved ones, just to name a few. These symptoms linger and even worsen over time. If one experiences these lingering symptoms, it is very important to seek professional help. As a teen, if you are under the age of 18, please know that it is okay to talk to your parents and explain to them how you feel. They can not help you or seek professional help for you if they do not know what you are feeling.

A good place to start is with your primary care physician. They will either be able to help you or refer you to someone that can.

Just as important, you need to know that you are not a failure if you are prescribed medications and / or are referred to a counselor, a psychologist or even a psychiatrist. It is NOT a sign of weakness or failure. On the contrary, it is a sign of strength; that you had the courage to seek help when needed. Most likely you will find that your quality of life will improve dramatically. It may be that you only need to take the medication temporarily or you may need to take it on a long term basis. Maybe even for the rest of your life. Whatever the case may be, do if for your sake, your families sake, and the sake of living life to it's fullest.

Anxiety Symptoms and Recovery

We all have stressful lives because stress is a normal part of living. Stress keeps us on our toes and motivates us forward. This is to be expected but when stress grows out of control, the body often experiences stress reactions. This includes anxiety, panic attacks, fatigue and exhaustion. Being aware of the body's stress reactions helps us recognize when it's time to turn down the need to push too much and begin to nurture ourselves more. Look at anxiety reactions as red flags, warning one to slow down, moderate and nurture.

Here is a list of anxiety symptoms or red flags warning you to slow down:

Racing Heart or Palpitations

Lightheadedness

Dizziness

Insomnia

Racing Thoughts

Trembling

Lack of Appetite

Feelings of Doom

Naturally, it's best to rule out any physical reason for these symptoms before assuming they are strictly anxiety related.

Most believe these feelings are arising out of the now but this is not the case. So much depends on your perspective and how you are thinking. If you perceive the world as a dangerous place, your thoughts often turn negative and fearful.

Fearful thoughts fuel body reactions. They often begin with "what if" and release adrenaline in response to the negative thought. Adrenaline causes the heart to race, lightheadedness and other feelings of anxiety. Small releases of adrenaline all day long lead to a trembling, over-reactive body or what we call sensization.

A sensitized body begins with a thought. It all begins with a thought. Once you learn to change the way you think, you will have succeeded in interrupting the cycle of anxiety. It is basically the fear, adrenaline, fear cycle. Once understood and corrected, life returns to normal. You are no longer victimized by anxiety reactions.

Process for Recovery

– Recognize Your Thoughts- Be aware of your inner dialogue. How many times are you beginning sentences with "what if" and thinking fearfully? Remember: Fear releases adrenaline which fuels anxiety. "What if" thoughts are fearful and release adrenaline.

Do not Run From Symptoms- If you experience anxiety symptoms, allow them to be there without changing them. Once you run from them or try to stop them, you are fueling them. This is a paradox. Do the opposite and they will melt away.

Remember: Symptoms will immediately stop without your fear to fuel them.

Breathe- No more breath holding or overbreathing in fear. Slow down your breathing and everything returns to normal.

Remember: Dizziness and feelings of lightheadedness are the result of overbreathing or breath holding.

Let Go- Release the tight hold you have on yourself and focus on the moment. Lose yourself in whatever you are doing. You are not ill. Anxiety is only the result of the fearful label you are putting on life.

Remember: It's fine to be cautious but it is also all right to enjoy yourself. Let go of the habit of viewing life as dangerous.

Basically, you have full control over how you feel. Anxiety symptoms are upsetting but they are not dangerous. Change the way you think and you have succeeded in changing the way you feel. This is simple, effective and without side effects, adverse reactions or withdrawal symptoms, as many experience with the use of medicines.

You are not ill. Anxiety is basically a learned behavior that you can easily unlearn.

Each and every anxiety symptom has a logical explanation and can be reversed. Never forget this, even if a new symptom pops up. They often come in cycles but once you aware of this fact and how to interrupt them, you are in charge of your life again. You are no longer the victim of anxiety symptoms. It's time to move forward and look at life as an enjoyable adventure rather than a dangerous experience.

Dreamtime Healing – Heal Your Past To Change Your Future

Holographic Kinetics is an Aboriginal healing system based on traditional Dreamtime Healing. My teacher Steve Richards is an Australian Aboriginal descendant who could remember all the ancient teachings of his culture when he was a child. He then spent over forty years studying quantum physics, mathematics and other healing modalities so that he could put this knowledge into a practical healing system.

During a Holographic Kinetics process the practitioner communicates with the client's spirit to find the cause of the issue they want to resolve. The client is then guided back in time to the very cause of that issue so that they can see what happened and clear out the resulting stored emotions and thoughts from the body. In that same dimension of space and time the client then creates a healthy and happier scene and locks those resulting positive emissions and free-flowing energy into the space which was cleared. These negative thoughts and emotions that were trapped in the body would have been causing the client to attract similar situations in their life. So by clearing them out the client is then free to create new life experiences.

Based on Fibonacci mathematics, Holographic Kinetics recognizes that the past plus the present equals the future. So by changing what happened in the past, we are changing the present, and creating a more positive future.

If the issue came down the genetic line we clear the cause by accessing the spirit of the person that it came from, through the client's body. We then have the ancestor go back in time to the cause of this issue, see it, clear it out and change it to a more positive experience.

The issue could also be caused by inter-dimensional interference such entities, human spirits or other forces, which may have entered the person's field through drugs, alcohol, trauma or other reasons in this life or a past life, or which could have been passed down genetically.

We clear these forces by calling the interference to surface through the client's body, and then read it its rights, which are based on Lore (universal law). We understand that under universal law this invading force has no right to be in the field of another. So once the rights have been read, and the dimension where it entered has been cleared, it can no longer remain in the body and so is forced to leave.

Once the client releases these forces and the trapped emotions and thoughts have been cleared, the effects that were causing will simply disappear and the client will experience balance and harmony.

HK has shown excellent results with issues such as depression, fear, trauma, physical pain, obsessive compulsive disorders, voices in the head and other mental disorders, drug or alcohol dependence or addiction, emotional, sexual or physical abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder , relationship and communication breakdowns, and many other issues and ailments.

Many major difficulties people encounter within their lives can be brought back into balance with as little as one HK session. This healing treatment serves to free the spirit to be happy again; to be empowered, at peace, and present in the moment.

Nanny Dogs

Do you know what a nanny dog is? A "nanny dog" is the name given to pit bull terriers many, many years ago. Pit bulls were called nanny dogs because they were loyal, caring companions for children.

We have forgotten that their history is of loving, caring family pet. They were treated as a part of the family. They were loved and respected and theyave love and respect in return. Todays' view of the pit bull is very different.

They are viewed as aggressive and dangerous animals and have been banned in many places. The pit bulls that are aggressive have been trained by their owners to be aggressive. Their nature is to love and to please the people that own them.

Our society blames the pit bulls. The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the owners that train them to fight and to be aggressive. Dogs do not train themselves, people train them. Michael Vicks' recent trial and conviction for dog fighting is a step in the right direction. He was held accountable for his actions and the abuse of the dogs in his care. Every person that conducts themselves in such a manner should be held accountable in the same manner.

The pit bulls should not be punished for their actions because of employers training them inappropriate behaviors. Responsible dog ownership brings about very much different behavior in dogs.

I hope that more people will remember pit bulls as nanny dogs in the future and give these dogs a chance to show their loving, caring nature. I will qualify what I am writing by saying that I am a pit bull owner and there is no more loving animal than my "nanny dog".

How Long Does It Take To Rehab A Sprained Ankle?

How long it takes to heal a sprained ankle depends on the severity of the sprain, the age of the person, and the physical condition of the person, but a grade 1 or mild grade 2 sprain should reasonably be rehabbed in a maximum of 2- 3 weeks. It all depends on how fast you heal and how severe the damage is.

But you must have realistic expectations for completely rehabing a sprained ankle and not rush it. You need to learn how to listen to what your body is telling you and then react appropriately. Good sprained ankle care claims that ankle rehab is only to be started after visiting a doctor and verifying there is no structural damage.

Only a few years ago, when an athlete would tear his ACL it was a career ending injury. Then surgeons started repairing ACL damage through surgery. The injury was no long career ending, but just delayed the career 12-18 months.

Now, with the advent of arthroscopic surgery a large number of athletes with knee injuries are able to return to competition within the same season.

Another example is recovery after heart bypass surgery. Back in the 70's my grandpa had heart bypass surgery and was put on bed rest for 2-3 weeks and then only allowed limited activity for the next 2-3 weeks.

Less than 2 years ago, my father-in-law had quadruple bypass surgery and was encouraged (read that forced) to stand up and walk hours after he came out of recovery.

The medical community has figured out that movement is critical to fast recovery.

So why is it that with the advancement of medicine most people still believe that an ankle sprain should take 2-3 months to heel?

I just read an article in a prescribed running magazine that stated an ankle sprain would take 2-3 months to heal.

I have personally experienced much faster recovery than that. In fact, with an aggressive physical therapy regimen, I was able to rehab a severe grade 1 / mild grade 2 ankle sprain within 5 days. By rehab, I mean that I was able to compete at NCAA division 1 level basketball within 5 days of a separate ankle sprain.

Do not fall for the wait and it will all work out approach! You are letting life pass you by! Treating a sprained ankle with an extremely conservative approach after the doctor has confirmed there is no structural damage is keeping you from enjoying your life.

There are a lot of good ankle rehab programs on the internet that do not require you to spend thousands of dollars on equipment, weeks in physical therapy with time off from work … not to mention the cost of gas just driving to the physical therapists office.

If you do a Google search on the internet for "sprained ankle rehab", you'll be able to get a program that is proven to rehab ankles quickly and that will strengthen them as well.

Sprained Ankle rehab and treating a sprained ankle is easy when you follow a proven and safe program. Do not set up for following RICE. RICE protocol was only created as a method of first response after an ankle injury. It does not rehab a sprained ankle.

Make sure that the ankle rehab program you choose has a guarantee. You get the results you want or you get 100% of your money back.

Look for a program that has success built-in. The easier it is for you to do the exercises, the more likely you will actually follow through and do them.

Good luck in getting your ankle healed and in getting back to your life.

Here’s Why My Kettlebells Never Bruise My Forearms – And Why Kettlebell Instructors Wish They Did

Anyone who starts training with kettlebells has to deal with bruised forearms. That’s just about as close to being a fact as it’s possible to get. When you start working out and learning the movements, the kettlebell clean and even the snatch cause impact damage to your forearms. It’s virtually unavoidable.

Of course, if you grit your teeth and keep training through these beginning stages, you eventually learn how to alter and improve your technique. With experience, you won’t bang up your forearms as much as you did when you first started.

But for any kettlebell athlete who uses 36 pound ‘bells, bruises are always lurking just around the corner, waiting for that one bad rep or moment of inattention. Even the very best kettlebell athletes in the world can make mistakes. Fatigue spares no man (or woman), and it’s at these times when our form suffers and our bodies take a beating.

I never get bruised forearms anymore

I used to work out like a wild man. Intensity was the name of the game. My technique was pretty good, but I still got banged up from time to time. Painful, ugly bruises were the price I had to pay for exercising past the point of comfort and sustainability. In fact, it was a price I was willing to pay, up to a point.

But one day my boss mentioned the bruises on my forearms. What went unsaid was that I needed to find a way to avoid looking like I just lost a fight. It just wasn’t professional to show up for work with black and blue forearms.

Luckily, I took my boss’ unspoken advice and made one simple change in my kettlebell training routine. Now, I never get bruises or impact damage. I haven’t had a kettlebell bruise since I changed my way of working out, and my workouts are actually better and more intense now that I’m not damaging myself during training.

Kettlebell instructors WANT you to stay frustrated

Kettlebell instructors love it when you get bruised up. They use this as a way of making you feel inadequate. They say ‘if you learn proper technique, you won’t get bruised’.

They’re lying.

Everyone makes mistakes. You could clean the bell properly a hundred times in a row, but if you slip up just once, you damage your arm. Are you telling me there is anyone in the world who can be perfect 100 out of 100 times? If so, you’re wrong.

Even the best kettlebell athletes — those guys who are household names in the kettlebell community — take precautions against mistakes. And guess what? It’s from those guys that I learned how to avoid bruises and take my kettlebell training to a higher level of intensity. Guys like Ivan Denisov, Valery Fedorenko, and Nikolay Jankovsky take these same precautions – and they’re champions.

The celebrity instructors who just jumped on the kettlebell bandwagon as recently as a decade ago don’t want you to get better. They want to keep you feeling inadequate!

Who says beginners need to suffer bruises and pain just to learn perfect technique? This attitude is ridiculous, but it’s held by all the celeb instructors who make money by making their students feel like there’s always something more to learn. They take the simple and make it complicated and frightening.

Treating the Concurrence of Hip and Lower Back Pain

If you have concurrent hip and lower back pain, you are probably already aware that everything else in your body looks to hurt when those two areas hurt. The concurrence of hip and lower back pain can be truly debilitating.

If you are a stay-at-home parent, you probably will have days when the laundry, vacuuming, or doing even the simplest of chores becomes impossible for you to do, thanks to the pain in your hip and back. If you have a job, you may not be able to report for work. Or, on those days when you are able to come to work, the pain may become unbearable if your job has you sitting in front of your desk for hours. The concurrence of hip and lower back pain requires an expedient appointment to your physician to prevent a prolonged medical condition.

Unfortunately, while this kind of concurrent condition is quite common, it is often an idiopathy. In other words, your doctor may not be able to come up with a diagnosis for the underlining condition causing your pain.

Fortunately, even without knowing the cause of the pain, your doctor has a wide range of tools for managing the pain. Often simply taking the edge off of the pain for a while will allow you to function normally while your body recovers. This is important because hip and lower back pain becomes a chronic pain cycle for many individuals.

Exercise is the most important tool for preventing pain in the hip and back. In fact, it is often a prescription for preventing the recurrence of such pain in those individuals who have had it on multiple occasions in the past. Exercises to prevent pain in the hip and lower back involve a combination of muscle development, muscle flexibility, and posture support exercises. Similar exercises may be prescribed for those currently suffering from hip and back pain, although much more care will need to be taken. Of course, your doctor may also prescribe some medications for treating this condition based primarily on your medical history and situation.

Pancreatic Diseases – Non Drug Remedy

This article focuses on how the Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water helps treat pancreatic diseases. The properties of the Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water are completely unknown by the American public and medical professionals. Most North Americans tend to think of mineral water as something to drink either as a snack or with meals. Yet, Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water is not just something to drink when thirsty. This "magical" water contains healing properties for a variety of chronic disorders, as well as for health maintenance.

European doctors and scientists have used this water for centuries. 100 years ago, Karlovy Vary Water was the only possible way to treat diabetes, obesity, gout, stomach ulcers, pancreatic diseases and liver problems. Today it continues to serve as a very important complementary alternative therapy for healing these chronic disorders.

There is no other mineral supplement in the world like Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water. Research on this water began over 500 years ago. Since then, hundreds of clinical texts and articles have been published describing the positive effects of the water on both animals and humans.

Karlovy Vary water was found to be so beneficial that work was done to manufacture the salt from the evaporated thermal spring water. In 1764, an inexpensive method was discovered that made it possible to distribute the water through the world. Czech doctors determined that the water manufactured from the genuine Karlovy Vary thermal spring salt had identical healing properties as the spring.

To understand the healing action of this water on pancreatic diseases one needs to understand the pancreas structure and function.

The pancreas is an elongated and tapered gland that lies across the back of the abdomen behind the stomach in the loop of the duodenum. It secrete digestive enzymes into the duodenum and hormones, such as insulin, into the blood stream.

The pancreatic cells secretestimate enzymes into a net of ducts that meet to form the main pancreatic duct. This duct merges the common bile duct (which carries bile from the gallbladder) and liver to form a small cavity that opens into the duodenum. The opening has a muscle valve called the Sphinster of Oddi that controls secretions from the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder into the duodenum of the small intestine.

Spasms or valve blockages may cause a back up of the pancreatic fluids, thus, increasing the pancreatic duct pressure. Trapped inside, the pancreas digestive enzymes start to digest their own pancreatic cells causing congestion, inflammation, pain, cysts and finally death of the pancreatic tissue.

Pancreatitis may develop at first in acute and then in chronic conditions. Solid, difficult to eliminate bile, small and large gallbladder stones, inflammation and trauma of bile ducts during surgery can cause blockage of the Sphinster of Oddi.

Valve spasms can also occur due to stress, fatty meals, alcohol consumption and smoking.

The pH of the pancreatic fluid is alkaline due to the fact that the digestive enzymes become active only in an alkaline environment. Normally the pancreatic fluid contains a large amount of minerals and bicarbonates to keep the alkaline condition. When the pancreas is contained, inflamed or damaged, the fluids lose their alkalinity, thenby causing valve spasms and blockages.

Used for centuries by generations of Europeans, Karlovy Vary water made from the Genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt has been popular in Europe as a natural approach to Chronic Pancreatitis. Positive benefits of the Karlovy Vary water are thought about by a beneficial complex composition of potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, sulfates, bicarbonates, chlorides, and a lot of trace minerals such as zinc, cobalt, selenium, lithium, copper and more.

According to European doctors, the most important action of the water is to enhance production and flow of bile, open the Sphinster of Oddi and decrease pressure inside the pancreas. Further, the Karlovy Vary Healing Mineral Water supplies the pancreas with minerals and bicarbonates, the main ingredients of the pancreatic fluids. The water promotes the manufacture and release of digestive hormones in the duodenum and regulates the digestive process in the gastrointestinal tract and liver. The digestive hormones signal to the pancreas the amount of enzymes and bicarbonate that will be needed to digest protein, sugars, starches, and lipids arriving from the stomach into the duodenum.

Karlovy Vary water made from the Genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt is a safe and effective non-drug alternative remedy for chronic pancreatitis.

Do You Know What Kick Started Your Leaky Gut?

This is Part 1 of a 3 Part Series explaining exactly how Leaky Gut developments and progresses.

There are probably many of you reading my articles and wondering to yourself, what is Leaky Gut? If you fall into this category then this article is for you! Without getting into the causes of it let's take a look at exactly how it progresses.

I do not want to bore with you an anatomy lecture so I'm going to keep this as simple as possible.

Initial Onset of Leaky Gut

How does it start? Well, there is no one single cause. It is typically the accumulation of multiple stressors on the digestive tract that cause infection and result in the initial onset of Leaky Gut.

These chronic stressors create continuous inflammation which literally burns the intestinal lining and causes damage to the digestive tract. Over time this damage breaks down the intestinal lining and Leaky Gut developments.

There are two extremely important parts of the intestinal lining which are the first to be damaged due to intestinal infection, the mucosal barrier and the microvilli.

When damage occurs to these two outermost layers of the intestinal lining, the result can be detrimental. When the mucosal barrier becomes damaged, the first thing that happens is you lose 70-80% of your immune system which leaves your body vulnerable to infection. This also forces the remaining parts of your immune system to work overtime to fight off all of the new inviting undesired particles and pathogens. This results in an overactive immune system. When this continues and the microvilli becomes damaged, you lose your ability to properly digest your food and absorb the nutrients that your body needs to function properly.

Now you have lost the ability to properly digest your food, the undigested food particles become an all you can eat buffet for harmful parasites, bacteria, and yeast / fungi. Normally these pathogens do not have enough food to thrive but now there is the perfect environment to support these pathogens existing in your gut. These harmful pathogens then push out the beneficial bacteria and create an imbalance in the gut flora also known as dysbiosis.

So, what does the this leave you with? Just to name a few Leaky Gut Symptoms …

1. Intestinal Gas

2. Intestinal Bloating

3. Constipation

4. Reoccurring Illnesses

5. Reoccurring Infections

6. Periodontal Disease

7. Depression

Colorectal Cancer – Chances of Survival

If someone is afflicted with colorectal cancer, their chances of survival will depend on several factors. One of them is the pathological history of the patient. If the patient has earlier suffered from adenomas, there will be an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer. This will be more so if the polyps are large in number and size. Even if the colorectal cancer that developed earlier was completely removed, the chances of new cancers developing in other areas of the colon and rectum are high.If the patient had the first colorectal cancer at a young age, the chances of this problem recurring will be high.

Another negative factor is a personal history of chronic inflammatory bowel disease also called IBD. If one had had IBD, then one should undergo a screening colonoscopy between eight and twelve years after the diagnosis.

The focus should be on avoiding risk factors and adopting protective measures. Awareness of the important facts about colorectal cancer is the first step. The problem starts with polyp formation. As polyps grow in size, there is a higher risk of their turning malignant. You can understand the significance of the size of polyps from the fact that while the chances of a very small polyp being cancerous is less than one in five hundred (0.2 percent), the figure for polyps of one centimeter size is about one in ten 10 percent). The chance increases with a polyp with a size of two centimeters having chances of becomng cancerous being as high as one in two (50 percent.)

Another risk factor is the history of a quite a few in the family having Colorectal cancer. This indicates a genetically acquired proneness for this disease. Statistics show that about 30 percent of the cases diagnosed are due to genetic factors. The risk is higher if a relative acquires this problem at an age below 60. Understandably the risk become higher if more than one person is associated with this type of cancer. A symptom known as hereditary non-polyposis colon cancer, or HNPCC also contributes to a high risk of colorectal cancer being developed. HNPCC is known to increase the risk for other types of cancer as well.

Diet also plays a role in causing this problem. People who consume diets rich in fats and calories but low in fiber are at increased risk of contracting this disease.

While a lot of innovative treatments and new drugs have been developed, counseling is also very important in helping people overcome their problems and increase their chances of survival.
