Stomach Ulcer Symptoms And Causes

The stomach is a complex combination of muscles and acids. While it was once believed that the most likely cause of stomach ulcers was stress, it is now accepted that lifestyle is one of the main contributing factors. Bacterial infection is also a possible cause, although until not too long ago it was believed that the stomach was too inhospitable an environment for bacteria to survive. Unfortunately, stomach ulcer symptoms can be extremely uncomfortable and quite painful and are only likely to worsen without the proper treatment.
Gastric Ulcers

Specifically, a gastric ulcer is a lesion that appears in the membrane or lining of the stomach. The same acids that are used to break down food and other stomach contents attach the tissue believing it to be food and this increases the amount of damage to the stomach lining. The stomach acid will typically try to carry on eating away at the sore and over time this can lead to serious lesions and may completely perforate the lining which causes internal bleeding.
Duodenal Ulcers

Duodenal ulcers are the most common form of ulcer, but these do not strictly speaking, occur in the stomach itself, but in the first 10 to 12 inches of the small intestine. Duodenal ulcers can prevent food from passing to the stomach. Common symptoms of such ulcers include vomiting food and blood.

Stomach Ulcer Symptoms
Common symptoms of stomach ulcers are a gnawing pain in the stomach that typically worsens after taking food and drink. Pain can radiate further and may even reach the back and the type of pain experience may be dull or sharp. Bad wind, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, lethargy, a poor appetite, and weight loss are all possible stomach ulcer symptoms although these are less likely to occur.

Treating stomach ulcers is important because left unchecked they can become life threatening as the stomach continues to eat away at the tissue in the body. As well as looking for these symptoms you may also consider using a home test kit which typically involves testing a drop of blood for Helicobacter pylori bacterium; often a precursor to stomach ulcers.

What is a Strep Rash – Understanding the Progression

What is strep rash? Scarlatina, also known as strep rash generally occurs with a case of strep throat. Streptococcus bacteria is what can cause a strep throat infection.

The symptoms of strep throat are: chills, headache, high fever, a very sore throat that is red and irritated, difficulty eating or swallowing, enlarged tonsils and swollen lymph nodes or glands in the neck. A strep throat infection has to be confirmed by a doctor who will lightly swab the throat of the patient. The swab is then sent off to be analyzed and the results come back in two days or less. A scarlet fever rash can become visible on the patients skin.

Strep rash is thought to be an allergic reaction to toxins from the strep bacteria. What are the characteristics of strep rash? To understand it, you should be watching for very tiny red pimples that appear all over the person's body. The skin will appear very red, much like being sunburned and will have pimples that are rough to the touch. The abdomen and chest are the first areas that will show signs, however the whole body may become covered.

Generally areas of the skin that are moist will be affected more. Areas such as the arm pits and groin where there are skin folds will feel the impact. Usually it will start to fade within seven days. One common symptom of healing is the peeling of the skin that can last up to two weeks time.

However, skin flaking can go on for a longer period in a more serious case. Other symptoms of scarlet fever include: flushed cheeks, a pale area around the mouth, a tongue coated in white or red with red dots on the tongues surface and skin creases such as elbows, neck, underarm and groin that are darker in color.

You can also see that if you apply pressure to the skin's surface rash disappears or whitens. Scarlet fever and strep rash are more prominent in children ages five to fifteen years old.

Scarlet fever is not usually encountered very often even though strep throat is common. To prevent any complications from strep throat, the infection should be treated with antibiotics. Rash treatment is not required for strep rash, as it usually disappears on its own.

The rash is an uncomfortable feeling, however over the counter rash creams can be used to combat it. Another reason that it can occur is due to a skin infection that develops as a result of bacteria entering the body via a scrape, cut, impetigo of the skin or a burn. A trip to the doctor is required to verify a diagnosis.

risk of death,acquired immunodeficiency syndrome,human immunodeficiency Virus,hypogammaglobulinemia

The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a plague that has taken over the world. Acquired means that people can get infected, immunodeficiency means that it weakens the body’s immunity and syndrome means that it causes many health problems once people acquire it. The virus that causes AIDS is known as HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus). Once infected, the body attempts to rid the body of this virus and ends up forming antibodies that show in the HIV test.

The type of infections are similar to those in patients with hypogammaglobulinemia. Infections with the encapsulated organisms. Haemophilius influenza type B, streptococcus pneumoniae, and enteric gram-negative rods are common and can cause chronic or recurrent meningitis. Malignant external otitis, a disease usually seen in older patients, also occurs. Other common conditions include dermatitis, important pathogen.

AIDS is caused by a virus called Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). If you get infected with HIV, your body tries to fight the infection by producing “antibodies”. When you have a blood test for HIV, it looks for the presence and concentration of these antibodies. As the HIV disease continues, the immune system becomes weaker and, normally harmless viruses, bacteria and fungal infections can cause more sickness than if you had been healthy.

HIV-1 infects lymphocytes with the CD4 marker. CD4 lymphocytes are involved in cell-mediated immunity and their depletion also impairs B-cell activation. This process results in the syndrome known as AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) which then makes the patient susceptible to infections (opportunistic infections) that normal individuals are able to fight off.

We can establish a diagnosis of AIDS in two ways. First, a person with HIV can be diagnosed with AIDS if he or she contracts AIDS defining illness. People with healthy human systems are usually able to fight this AIDS-defining illness, but in a person whose systems are weakened by HIV, these diseases are very serious and may constitute a danger to life.

Even while the family unit is psychologically adjusting to the new diagnosis, it should recognize that the family must make certain changes that are necessary to both protect other members from infection and to insure that the HIV-positive member is living in the healthiest environment possible. Simple measures such as avoiding the sharing of eating utensils or toothbrushes will usually be all that is necessary to protect family members from exposure to the virus.

Most people infected with HIV develop AIDS and die due to infections or malignancies associated with the continuous malfunction of the immune system. But the rate of progression of HIV to AIDS is variable and is dependent on the host, the virus, and other environmental factors. That is why it is important for you to have regular checkups at your nearest STD testing centers.

Even with the illness and risk of death associated with FIV, exposure to it is not always lethal. Often the cats act as carriers and with a nutritious diet and good veterinary care, they can live a normal and healthy life for some time. Alongside the added care it is important that the feline be sterilized and not go outdoors where it may infect other cats or acquire other illnesses. If there are other felids in the vicinity, they may be separated. Usually though the risk of transmission to other house cats is low in a normal household.

Can Psoriasis be Cured?

What is Psoriasis, and can it be cured? Psoriasis in a nasty skin irritation that is passed through your families DNA, it is generally noticed due to irritating itching and there are five known types.

One type of Psoriasis is Psoriatic Arthritis, which is the inflammation of joints. Plaque Psoriasis is the most common with symptoms of red raised areas and white flakes. The next type is Guttate Psoriasis, which are small red spots on the skin. Then Pustular Psoriasis, where there are white pustules surrounded by red skin. Inverse Psoriasis that are smooth red liaisons in the skins fold, and finally Erythrodermic Psoriasis that are wide spread with severe itching, pain and red abrasions.

Now, can Psoriasis be cured? Unfortunately, no, as it is passed through the DNA of your family, which can be a good thing, though, since it does give an indication of whether you are likely to get it or not. Psoriasis can be treated, however, and many have shown results of going months and years between outbreaks. There have even been a few cases where the Psoriasis did not return after the proper treatment.

Most studies show that Psoriasis can and will return during different intervals of time. You need to follow your doctor's advice and medication prescriptions carefully, though, as people with Psoriasis are generally more at risk for bacterial infections. If you are in any stage of an outbreak, whether in the beginning middle or end, you need to be extra careful. Please note that you are not meant to be scared into seclusion, just be extra careful, especially if you have any open areas.

You need to be sure not to scratch the itching areas for obvious reasons, but the biggest threat is that if you scratch to hard, you take the chance of opening your skin and bringing in even more infection or causing a second Psoriasis outbreak.

Now what can you do? Well, you need to make sure you follow all of the doctor's directions, and make note of any new outbreaks and or changes in your current condition. You should also make sure you have very thorough and proper hygiene; your doctor or specialist will give you a routine to follow with the proper products.

If you are worried about having a secondary attack or wondering if you are having one now, you should watch out for the following symptoms. You will notice a red patch of skin area around a Psoriasis laceration, or that the red area has increased and gotten worse. Some complain of the skin feeling hotter or even of having a fever associated with the attack. This is caused by the body's natural defenses trying to heal itself.

Never give up. There are studies going even right this moment to help with this aggravating and sometimes very painful problem.

Toenail Fungus Treatment – Is Toenail Fungus Gone After the Nail Falls Off

Toenail fungus is unsightly, persistent, nasty, embarrassing, and most of all aggravating! Toe fungus is a parasitic infection in the nail of the toes and fingers. Big toes and the little toes have the highest risk, because they are exposed to friction from your shoes.

Nail fungus is also known as Onychomycosis, ringworm of the nail. Nail fungus infections involves a group of fungi called Trichophyton rubrum and trishophyton mentagrophyted. They thrive on keratin, the protein in your nail.

Nail fungus is a relatively common problem. Though many people are unaware of the condition, it is estimated that 12 million Americans have this disorder. Men are twice as likely as women to have a nail fungus, and incidence appears to increase with age. Those with diabetes or HIV are also at greater risk, as are those who tend to perspire a lot from their feet and or have a history of athlete’s foot. Other factors that add to the risk include poor circulation and hot, humid weather.

Your doctor will attempt to remove as much of the affected toe nail fungus as possible. He may trim the nail with clippers, file it down, or he may dissolve it with Bifonazole and Urea paste. If you are fortunate and the infected toenail area is fairly small, he may prescribe a medicated nail polish containing Ciclopirox (Loprox). This fungus remedy is great for people who are unable to take anti fungal drugs.

Toenail Fungus usually involves more than one nail, so your doctor may prescribe an antifungal drug that is taken orally for several months. The reason for this is that your nails grow in slowly.

Toenail Fungus Treatment

Once the nail is infected there may be a good deal of pain. stage two is the nail separates, which leaves you with a nasty, smelly destroyed yellow toenail. Next your toenail will fall off. When the old toenail falls off a new toenail will grow back, but the new toenail will grow back with the fungus. Without Toenail Fungus Treatment, nail fungus will persist.

Chamomile, echinacea, and goldenseal have antiseptic properties. Echinacea boosts the immune system, plus helps to fight off infections. Look for topical creams for toenail fungus treatment containing these natural herbs and follow the directions.

Avoid the misuse of this great Dhathu, says Ayurveda. Too much indulgence in sex makes you lose this Seventh Tissue Element and this will result in weakness of body. Body ache, headache etc will be the result. Loss of semen adversely affects reversely the other Six Tisssue Elements.

Such hard stools are difficult to dislodge.Lack of proper timing of food, anxiety, mental problems etc all cause Constipation. Constipation will create back pain, weight in the stomach, headache, loss of appetite etc.

Intake of fruits and vegetables organically grown, 12 glasses of water daily, ensure mental peace, correct bowel movements – all these will cure Constipation
Gas Trouble or Hyperacidity
This is a very common disease. In India, there are very few homes without antacid tablets ! On one side, we take a lot of antacids and on the other take in acidic foods ! Amongst the Six Tastes, that which is Sour, Pungent and Salty foster Hyperacidity.

Fried foods, foods containing Masala, very cold drinks, potato, plantains – all these foster Gas Trouble. Lack of exercise is one of the causative factors. Also working seated for long hours.Mental tensions also foster this disease. It is not what you eat, but it is what eats you that is the cause of this common disease.

Mental pain, thoughts of revenge, fear – all these pave the way for this malady. There is an Emotional Center in the brain. When we have mental upsets, this Emotional Center stimulates the oxintic cells in our stomach to secrete Hyrochloric Acid.Lots of gas going from the rectal tract, indigestion – all these are the symptoms of gas trouble. Naturopaths averr that Constipation is the cause of this disease, nay, for all diseases !

Hurry, Worry and Curry are the main causative factors for this disease. They are to be avoided at all costs.

Chicken & butter should not be taken in simultaneously. Honey and ghee in equal quantities also is prohibited in Ayurveda

Colon Hydrotherapy
Naturopathy says that diseases are caused by the accumulation of morbid matter. Natural Hygiene says the cause is Toxemia, or the infusion of toxins into the blood.

One of the methods of cleaning the Colon is Enema or Colon Hydrotherapy.I have been practising Enema for the last 18 years. In 1989, while I was participating in an Exhibition Stall in Trichur ( a 41 day affair ), the nearest stall was a Naturopathy stall and the Chief Naturopath told me that the best way to get rid of Gas trouble was to take 15 light enemas.

I bought an enema can and have been doing this when I have any rectal block. This therapy is effective as we can see putrified faecal matter going out 10 minutes after the enema is administered. This is Jalopasana or Water Therapy or Hydro Therapy. All the ancient cultures advocated Hydro Therapy, as Water has got tremendous medicinal properties. Not only faecal matter, but gas, mucous and toxins go out of the rectal tract.
Fasting Therapy
Fasting Therapy is one of the best therapies. The digestive system gets rest during fasting. ” Lankhanam Paramoushadam ” – Fasting is the best medicine. Water Fasting, Fruit Fasting, Juice fasting — there are many types of fasting. Juice Fasting is superior to Water Fasting as the body is supported nutritionally.

The basic principle of Naturopathy is that Nature has healing power and that the Five Doctors are the Elemental Five -Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. ( Annam Brahma ). By Annam is not meant Food, but the Five Doctors, the Five Elements. ” The Five Doctors are the best, as the Five Elements are prior to all “, declares the Upanishads. ( Annam hi bhoothanam jyeshtyam, thasmad Sarvoushadam Uchyathe )
Ghee – The True Rasayana
Rasayana Therapy is Rejuvenation Therapy. That which rejuvenates the body is Rasayana. Ghee is considered to be the True Rasayana. All Ayurvedic preparations are based on ghee, I mean, almost all the Rasayanas. Ghee contains Vitamins A E, K D etc. Beta Carotene and Vitamin A are anti-oxidants. Diseases are caused by the excessive production of Free Radicals and these two are antidontes to Free Radicals. The famous Chyavan Prash is based on Ghee. It is said that the Rasayanas confer beauty, longevity, intelligence, youthfulness, health etc. Ghee, taken in moderate quantities, will confer these.

Laundry Tips to Prevent Allergies

Did you know that your laundry habits might be causing your allergies? Laundry is not the first thing that comes to mind when people think of allergies, but it is a common culprit. If you're not careful, your laundry can pack a potent one-two punch with dust mites and irritating chemicals. The resulting itchy skin, rashes, hives, and eczema are enough to make anyone miserable. Luckily, you do not have to make huge changes to your routine; simply employing some new cleaning strategies will bring relief from your allergy symptoms.

Dust Mites

These tiny mites are not visible to the naked eye, but they are a leading cause of allergies in the home. It's estimated that every mattress contains 100,000 to 10 million dust mites. They can also bring on asthma attacks, especially in young children and the elderly.

To get rid of these microscopic pests, bed linens should be washed in hot water. The mites can survive temperatures up to 56ºC / 133ºF, and they will cling to fabrics washed in water of that temperature. Wash every sheet, blanket, and pillowcase one a week in hot water. Needless to say, the sheets need to be made from a resilient fabric that can withstand high temperatures. Cotton is a good choice.

You can also use chemicals such as benzyl benzoate to kill dust mites in your laundry. This solution is considered safe for short-term use, but nobody knows how it affects a person's health when used for long periods of time. Extra rinse cycles can help wash away residual chemicals. If you have a skin condition, you might have better luck using benzyl benzoate on fabrics you do not touch on a daily basis.

Skin Conditions

If you suffer from allergies, eczema, or other painful skin conditions, you should be extra careful when doing the laundry. Some detergents and fabric softeners contain chemicals that irritate sensitive skin. These should be tested on one or two pieces of laundry at first, just to see if they will cause an allergic reaction. If they do, rinse out the washing machine thoroughly with hot water and move on to the next product.

Folks with serious allergies should try detergents that do not contain perfumes or dyes. These are frequently marketed for babies and toddlers, but they work just as well for grown-up laundry. Some people find that biological washing products, which contain enzymes, worsen their skin conditions. Enzymes are natural substances that help break down molecules, such as stains. If your skin condition worsens after using a biological washing product, either do a double rinse cycle before drying your clothes, or switch to another type of detergent.

Stain removal can be a challenge to people with skin conditions, simply because most stain removers rely on harsh chemicals. For a natural approach, try mixing up your own stain remover from vinegar, club soda, baking soda, or corn starch. The results might surprise you.

Fabric softeners are another source of skin irritation. Luckily, there are hypoallergenic alternatives. Instead of regular fabric softener, try a quarter cup of baking soda. Vinegar and Borax, also used in quarter-cup measurements, make clothes soft without worsening the symptoms of eczema. To go totally chemical-free, use laundry balls instead of a detergent or fabric softener.

Eating Disorders – Symptoms and Treatments

Eating disorders plague millions of men and women throughout the world. Many people do not seek help and eventually die from their disease. Eating disorders are diseases. They afflict the mind, tricking the individual into thinking he or she needs to take the most drastic measures to change his or her appearance. The individual then takes action, be it binge eating, starving themselves, or purging.

One such eating disorder is anorexia. Individuals with anorexia starve themselves to obtain perfection. They believe that they are overweight, or have the fear of becoming obese, no matter what the actual weight and body size. Anorexia is commonly seen in adolescence and the onset of puberty. A person with anorexia may develop strange eating habits, such as refusal to eat in front of others, or serving large meals for others and not eating any of it. Anorexia is very frequent in sports or activities that require a certain weight range, such as dance, gymnastics and running. People with anorexia may stop eating altogether, exercise excessively and become obsessive about their weight.

Anorexics often have the feeling that calorie intake and weight is the only thing they can control in their lives. Many have very low self esteem and some even feel they do not deserve to eat. People with anorexia usually will not seek help for themselves because they fear being forced to eat and get fat. It is possible, however, for anorexia to be treated and cured.

Some common symptoms of anorexia are irritability, discomfort around food, refusal to eat in public, excuses to skip meals, fatigue, dizziness, unexplained weight loss. These are just a few of the symptoms and are by no means limited to them. Most anorexics will not display all the symptoms at once.

Another form of eating disorder is bulimia. An individual suffering from bulimia will binge, consuming sometimes as many as 20,000 calories at a time, then purge to rid themselves of the calories. Binge eating provides bulimics with a short lived feeling of comfort, then a feeling of self loathing afterwards. There are many ways a person can purge the food from their system. Some ways include vomiting, excessive exercise, inappropriate use of laxatives and diuretics.

Unlike anorexia, the symptoms of bulimia are much more difficult to detect. A person with bulimia can be of normal weight for their build, some are even overweight. Bulimics are also more likely to be aware of their problem and are more likely to seek help for themselves. The causes of bulimia are currently unknown. Some believe people with bulimia have low self esteem and a fear of becoming fat.

Some symptoms of bulimia are tooth decay, weight fluctuation, frequent bathroom visits after eating, secretive eating, vomiting, abuse of diuretics and laxatives. Other, more serious symptoms are an irregular menstrual cycle, stomach ulcers and irregular heart beat.

Binge eating is another serious eating disorder. Binge eating is consuming excessive amounts of food at one time, to the point of being painfully full. Unlike bulimia, people with this disorder do not purge after a binge. They simply lose control, consuming many calories at a time. People who binge are usually overweight, but it's not uncommon for people with normal weight to do this, as well. Binging is usually followed by feelings of guilt, worthlessness and depression.

Some common symptoms of binge eating are, but not limited to, secretive eating, avoidance of social situations where food will be present, loss of sexual desire, fluctuation in weight, low self esteem and depression. People with this disorder may experience mood swings and irritability.

Eating disorders can be treated through psychological counseling. When seeking counseling, it's important for the individual suffering from the disorder to express wants and needs to ensure the type of counseling is something they're comfortable with. In some more extreme cases, hospitalization may be necessary.

Manuka Honey Cured My Stomach Ulcer: A Patient Tells Her Story A Scientist Explains How It Works

Luba Ershova is a Russian living in Auckland, New Zealand. She had no previous stomach problems, until her brush with H.pylori.

Luba tells how it affected her and how what she calls “magic honey” (actually MGO™ 400+ Manuka Honey from New Zealand) cured her stomach ulcer:

“Three months ago I started to have a problem with my stomach. A couple of hours after eating a meal I would start to feel very uncomfortable, like I had swallowed a stone.”

“It was not exactly painful, just a feeling of ‘heaviness’ that I wanted to get rid of.

“At first I thought it was a type of gastritis caused by something that I had eaten, so I put myself on a diet to get my digestion back to normal.

“I became better when I ate mostly porridge, potato puree and boiled veggies, but after a week of dieting it was still not back to normal and as soon as I ate something that was not on the diet list, the heavy feeling in my stomach would return worse than ever.

“I was constantly avoiding meat, butter, eggs and wine, thinking that they may be responsible, but the problem was still there.

“After several weeks of this, I decided to go and see a doctor and she asked me to have a blood test, as she thought the problem might be caused by Helicobacter pylori, bacteria that can get into the stomach when you eat contaminated food.

“The blood test came back positive, confirming that I had an H.pylori infection and the doctor prescribed a 7-day course of antibiotics.

“The antibiotics she gave me were quite strong and after the course my stomach felt better, but it was never completely back to normal and the heavy feeling would return every once in a while, such that I still had to be careful with the food I ate.

“The doctor explained that I had a pre-ulcer condition, and that the stress I was experiencing at that time of my life was a major contributor.

“I pretty much resigned myself to this uncomfortable feeling in my stomach and learned to live with it.

“However, later, a friend suggested that I try MGO™ 400+ Manuka Honey, as she knew of a friend of hers who had managed to totally clear himself from H. pylori bacteria by taking MGO™ manuka honey.

“You can imagine that I was pretty enthusiastic to try! I had heard a lot about the miraculous healing properties of Manuka honey in the past, but I had never had a reason to try it myself.

“I thought because it was a natural product it couldn’t do me any harm, and on the contrary it might even help my immune system to fight the condition.

“So, I took a teaspoon of MGO™ 400+ Manuka honey with a little bit of water before each meal 4 times a week.

“To tell the truth, the first week I was rather confused, as after each spoonful of honey I took, the heavy feeling would come back and I thought the honey wasn’t helping my stomach, but was somehow helping the bacteria instead.

“However, it wasn’t long before I saw real improvements – I soon forgot about my stomach, and my eating was back to normal again!

“I am still taking the magic honey as I know it can’t be doing me any harm, and my stomach has become so much better with every day!”

A scientist explains why MGO™ Manuka honey works

Dr Lynne Chepulis is Research & Development Director at Manuka Health New Zealand, which produces MGO™ Manuka Honey.

She says the story Luba tells is similar to many about the eradication of H.pylori infections using MGO™ Manuka honey:

“H. pylori is one of the main causes of stomach ulcers in many people, and yet it can be extremely difficult to get rid of, even with strong antibiotics. The medicine regime can also be difficult to stick to – standard therapy involves 2-3 drugs for 2 weeks, with up to 20 pills a day.

“This can be effective in up to 90% of patients, but often people don’t comply with the full drug therapy and/or the bacteria are simply not killed. As such, people can often suffer with these infections for months, or even years at a time.

“Nowadays, there is a large amount of case study and anecdotal evidence that demonstrates MGO™ manuka honey works to treat stomach ulcers. As well there is published scientific data that indicates Manuka honey effectively destroys H.pylori, while other honeys have no effect.”

Dr Chepulis explains the antibacterial properties of MGO™ Manuka honey are due to high concentrations of the compound Methylglyoxal.

“This is a stable compound that occurs naturally in Manuka honey. Importantly, Manuka honey contains levels of Methylgyoxyl that are far greater (up to 600 mg/kg honey) than those found in other honeys (5-10 mg/kg honey) or other foods.

“It is also stable in the presence of enzymes that readily degrade hydrogen peroxide, the non-stable antibacterial compound found in most honeys. For this reason Manuka honey can be an effective antibacterial agent in the gut, whereas other honeys are not.

“Manuka honey has been known for many years to have special properties, but until recently we did not know what was responsible for its potent stable antibacterial activity.

“It was not until 2006 that Professor Thomas Henle, of the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, identified Methylglyoxal as manuka honey’s dominant antibacterial constituent.”

Dr Chepulis says the precursor for dietary Methylglyoxal forms naturally in the Manuka plant and is transferred to the nectar which bees collect to make honey.

The Manuka bush is unique to New Zealand and manuka honey is the world’s only 100% natural food shown in numerous scientific studies to have effective and reliable stable antibacterial activity. However, the level of Methylglyoxal can vary due to soil and climate conditions, and because bees may also collect pollen from other plants at the same time.

Consumers need to be able to refer to a reliable measurement to ensure the product they buy contains enough Methylglyoxal for the purpose they intend.

MGO™ Manuka honey certification is accurate, direct and simple. For example, MGO™400+ Manuka Honey is tested and certified to have a minimum 400mg of dietary Methylglyoxal per 1 kilo of Manuka honey. Honey which is not Manuka will not have the same antibacterial affects. Nor may manuka honey which is not tested and certified.

According to research, the minimum level required to reliably inhibit major bacteria is 100mg /kg.

The information website says H. pylori is inhibited by Manuka honey with a sufficiently high level of Methylglyoxal. The site says that researchers report that Manuka Honey with a high level of anti-bacterial activity not only decreases pathogen growth in the gut, but also encourages good, pro-biotic gut bacteria. Manuka honey has no adverse affects on “friendly” bacteria essential to the digestion process.

So should manuka honey be regarded as more than a health food? A final word from the scientist who identified Methylglyoxal as the active ingredient, Professor Thomas Henle, Technical University of Dresden, Germany:

“Manuka honey should be one of the few food items for which a health-promoting property beyond the basic nutritional function can be clearly documented,” says Professor Henle.

“Health claims require significant scientific consensus, and I think from a scientific point of view, the data concerning the methylglyoxal-induced antimicrobal properties of Manuka honey are very promising to fulfil the requirements.”

Brain Waves and Depression

People suffering from depression disorder, especially chronic depression, have certain pattern of their brain waves.

There are only five different brain waves which we have:

– Beta is the one for the wide awake state of mind. Usually people with not enough beta waves suffer from depression. Beta waves control emotional stability, our levels of concentration and awareness of our surroundings.

– Alpha is a state of light relaxation , which your brain switches to automatically when you close your eyes. It's that state in between when you just woke up or are ready to go to sleep.

– Theta is a state coveted by those who meditate, it's either light sleeps with dreaming or deep meditation. In this state hypnotists can plant suggestions; you can also listen to audio language lessons or different personal development programs.

– Delta is a state of deep sleep , where we do not dream but rather our body takes time to recharge and heal itself.

– Gamma waves process the information from different parts of brain. The higher their activity, the more intelligent is the person. Generally, people like this are sharper, have excellent memory and all five senses perfect. On the contrary, people with learning difficulties produce less gamma waves.

Brain waves were first discovered in 1934, but only through the 1990s the researchers started trying to manipulate the brain waves to cure certain mental disorders: SAD (seasonal affective disorder), depression and anxiety, chronic fatigue, pain or hypertension.

What I'm particularly interested in is beta waves.

If you have too many of them, you experience anxiety, tension and worry as you become extremely alert and over-concentrate or over-analyze stuff. Vice versa, you become depressed or feeling blue if there is not enough beta waves activity to interest or motivate you.

So, by altering your brain waves with certain sounds, frequency and tones on audio recordings you can improve and stabilize your emotional state. There are plenty of products out there that you can try.

The latest I heard is that you also can determine how successful some antidepressant medications will be for you by examining your brain waves changes from the onset of your depression treatment instead of waiting for 6-8 weeks to see if the drugs started working.

Just a caution though. Whatever depression help I'm suggesting to you , do not discount conventional help first. Go to your doctor, wait for the diagnosis and discuss all the possible ways of fighting your mental disorder with them first.

Emetophobia – The Hidden Fear

Emetophobia is, quite simply, the fear of vomiting. For most people, vomiting is a natural occurrence, but some regard it as something that invokes great fear and distress. It can lead to anti-social behavior, high stress and obsessive-compulsive habits.

For most people, vomiting causes discomfort, but for the Emetophobics (or Emets), it is beyond the point of discomfort; it is a source of great anxiety. Many Emets would rather lose a limb than be sick; some say they would even rather die.

Many Emets know the cause of their fear. It is generally triggered by some event in the person's childhood. Some event happens that teaches the person to have fear or anxiety associated with vomiting. Many times it is a traumatic event, or even displeasure from a parent when the person vomits. (Parents with emetophobia often contribute to their children's fear)

There are a few behaviors that are common to nearly all Emets. They include limiting a diet (by processing foods as "safe" or "unsafe"), fear of travel, not drinking alcohol, fear of eating in public, fear of people who are ill. Some women Emets even avoid pregnancy, for fear of morning sickness.

Most Emets can count on one hand the number of times they've been sick in their entire lives. Talking about it, or even thinking about it, can cause great stress. Emetophobia can cause panic attacks, and can make someone crave social isolation as the fear takes over their daily lives. In an effort to deal with the phobia, the Emet seeks to control all aspects of their life by pushing out situations that they can not control, like being in public.

Emetophobia is not well-known., And that is due in part to those who suffer from it. Emets usually keep it secret, mostly in fear of public disapproval. Remember, for Emets it is a sense of extreme anxiety, and often embarrassment. They become skilled in coming up with excuses to avoid situations which may present their fear.

Many who have this fear do not know that there is a name for it, and they often do not realize that others suffer from the same anxiety. With the great secrecy involved in the disorder, it is not easy to determine the amount of sufferers, though one website dedicated to support for sufferers claims it is the UK's 5th biggest phobia.

There are many websites devoted to sufferers of emetophobia. To find them, all you need to do is plug the word into a search engine, but are those websites really helpful? In one sense, they give hope to sufferers by showing them that they are not alone. It also gives a great deal of information that is not commonly known, as well as resources for treatment and cures.

Yet, when a phobia becomes worse with obsession, these "support groups" may only lead to more damaging behavior. By focusing more on the fear itself (there are claims by some to have gone decades without vomiting), the phobic can often become worse, their anti-social and obsessive behavior increasing. The phobic becomes more obsessed with the fear instead of seeking to overcome it.

There are many treatments to this phobia, as there are with others. Therapy can work for some, alternative treatments for others. Either way, Emets need to learn to control their fear, or at least find a healthy way to live with it.

If you suffer from emetophobia, do not let it control your life. Life is too short to let fear take over. Remember: You are in control.

pH, Anxiety and Depression

For years I have been introducing people to the concept of pH regulation in the body. pH is the potential for hydrogen. But what it means in health is how acid or alkaline our body is at any given time. I have been checking saliva pH during exams for years in order to show people how their emotions play a pivotal role in our body's regulation.

The body creates acid in normal metabolism. It also creates acid with negative thinking, stress and exercise. But this negative thinking can really cause many problems with acid and the body gets overwhelmed and then moves calcium from the bones into fluids to counteract the acid and relieve the body of high acid. Too bad it starts the process of osteoporosis!

Now a study from the University of Iowa, shows it! This study shows that pH effects the emotions and how the brain functions. The article published by Scientific American describes how this is demonstrated. It also re-enforces that exercise plays a key role in helping anxiety-attack and depression sufferers neutralize the acid build up in the brain actually causing anxiety attack.

There is help for anxiety! There is treatment! And it's easy, painless and really works!

Here's what a practice member says, "I have had better feelings and have not had any anxiety attacks and back pain no longer exists."

This person had an attack on the adjusting table during a visit one day and we were able to get it under control and dissipate it painlessly and without drugs. The side effect was relief and empowerment to heal oneself.

Now that's a side effect that anyone would love to have!

How to Cure Insomnia Without Medication

What would you do when you can’t fall asleep for the night or worse, for a few nights in consecution?

Indeed, you’ll feel awful and grouchy if you suffer from insomnia. Thanks to the invention of sleeping pills – you hit the sack and sleep like a log throughout the night.

So you start taking drugs, thinking you found a cure for insomnia? No, do not depend entirely on sleep medications as they can create undesirable side effects while temporarily inducing sleep.

To cure insomnia, you just need some natural remedies. In fact, start by analyzing your lifestyle, as they’re likely the cause of your insomnia. Once you change some of your habits, you’ll nip your sleepless problem in the bud.

Now, try out these simple natural insomnia remedies, which aim to change your habits to help you cure insomnia without medication. They work best for you if your sleep disorder is not caused by the side effects from other drugs you’re undertaking.

1. Create a comfy environment for slumbering – soft lighting, good ventilation, appropriate room temperature, good support pillow, and sufficient comforters. This drug-free tactic alone can sometimes work to cure your insomnia.

2. Avoid caffeinated drinks such as coffee, tea, soft drinks or chocolate drink and/or cigarettes after 3 in the afternoon. Actually, caffeine is a drug by itself that can cause insomnia. Remove this drug and you’ll cure insomnia.

3. Turn off your cell phone (its radiation can upset your normal sleep pattern) after a certain time at night.

4. Sleep inducers such as soy milk, whole grain, certain seeds (pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds) and nuts (walnuts, cashews, almonds, pecans, peanuts) help your brain to relax. But remember not to overeat those food and do visit the bathroom right before sack time so that you won’t have to drag yourself up in the mid of your sweet dream (I hate that!).

5. Regular exercise relieves tension, thereby aiding sleep and treating insomnia. But try not to work out before bedtime as it may keep you awake.

6. If you’re working at home, stop work at least two hours before turning in to allow your mind to unwind and relax.

7. Improve your diet by reducing meat intake and eating more fruits and vegetables such as berries, green leafy vegetables, whole grains and cereals. These natural goodies help to revitalize your body and help to keep your sleep mechanism function properly with less “glitches”.

I would also recommend an amazing natural insomnia cure – Kiwi.

Packed with abundant vitamins (especially vitamin C), minerals (including calcium, potassium, magnesium) and dietary fiber, you should eat them more often and not only for insomnia problem.

Among the nutrients in kiwi, calcium is the one helping you to relax, which isn’t found in many fruits. But be prepared that you’ll only feel the effect after a few weeks of eating 2 kiwis each night.

How about taking calcium supplements? As with all artificially extracted supplements, they bring some adverse conditions. I reckon you do not want to add more toll on your health with those side effects.

Kiwi’s effect too slow for you? Think about this – eating two per night replenishes you with so much nutrition and makes you sleep better naturally in the long run. Isn’t this an easy deal and a natural cure for insomnia without medication?
