Natural Treatment for Thrush – Remedies That Can Be Easily Made

Treatment for thrush must be chosen carefully; after all, this is a condition that often affects infants and we all know that babies are sensitive when it comes to taking medications. Women who have babies should take note of such natural remedies to avoid potential side effects on their children.

Home cures for thrush can be easily prepared and are relatively safe since most of them are made from herbal and natural ingredients. If any member of the family is suffering from oral Candidiasis or thrush, here are some treatment options that can be easily made at home.

Yogurt

Eating a cup of unsweetened yogurt everyday will help prevent thrush from developing. This is not only good for curing thrush but is also effective in other types of Candidiasis, particularly vaginal yeast infection. Women with vaginal Candida infection can either eat it or use a tampon dipped in yogurt and insert it in the vagina.

Ginger

Ginger juice mixed with hot water can sooth tongue soreness and is also effective in getting rid of oral thrush. For infants, a mild solution should be made using warm water since ginger can be hot on the mouth. If the patient cannot take an almost-pure ginger drink, mix a thumb-size, crushed ginger with tea and make it an afternoon or evening refreshment.

Calendula or marigold

Crushed calendula mixed with tea can also cure thrush. A purer remedy can be made by using a dropper and dripping the solution on the tongue and areas of the mouth where the white curd-like substance – a common symptom of oral Candidiasis – is found.

Baking soda

A single teaspoon of baking soda diluted on water is also a highly recommended home cure for oral yeast infection. Soak a cotton ball in the solution and swab the tongue and the insides of the mouth to treat thrush. For women who breastfeed, the remedy should also be used to swab the breasts, particularly the nipples and the areas around the areola to make sure that the infection will not be transmitted to the baby.

Vinegar

For adults suffering from thrush or yeast infection in other parts of the body, dabbing a vinegar-soaked cotton ball on the affected areas will greatly help alleviate the burning sensation and itchiness. If it will be used on a baby, mixed it with a small amount of water to lessen the sour taste and to make it easier for the baby to take it.

Home treatment for thrush is relatively safe and most options are highly effective. If you don’t like taking chances with over the counter remedies, particularly for your baby, using a natural cure is a good alternative.

Type 2 Diabetes – Risk Factors for Heart Disease in People With Diabetes

Risk factors are anything that raises the chances of an individual to the likelihood of developing a particular disease or injury. Having diabetes in the family, for instance, is a risk factor for developing Type 2 diabetes. Scientists at Central Michigan University and various other research facilities in the United States and Canada compared the risk of heart disease and several possible factors in 2335 participants with a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes.

Their study reported on in 2016 in the journal Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice found the sleep duration and smoking are significant risk factors. A total of 14.2 percent of participants had coronary heart disease. Factors found among the participants with heart disease included…

  • gender – male,
  • advancing age,
  • a history of smoking,
  • long sleep duration in women,
  • having high blood pressure, and
  • high cholesterol readings.

According to the study, too much sleep is just as bad as too little, at least in women. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute in the United States recommends seven to eight hours of sleep for adults. According to a Gallup poll taken in 2013, 40 percent of Americans get too little sleep, but 30 percent probably sleep too much. According to the Prevention magazine, sleeping or staying in bed more than eight hours raises your risk of heart disease by 34 percent…

  • too much sleep can mean too little physical activity, which is in itself a risk factor for Type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
  • obesity is another danger of staying in bed too long.
  • too much sleep has also been linked to premature death, probably due to inflammation.

Depression and oversleeping have been linked, but a cause and effect relationship is difficult to define. Does too much sleep lead to depression, or do depressed individuals tend to sleep too much? We all know how hard it can be to get out of bed just after a tragic event. But can the opposite be true as well? More research is needed.

Certainly getting up and going for a walk after 7 to 8 hours of sleep is of benefit to most people. If you are getting more than the recommended amount of sleep, try setting your alarm clock to wake you up 7 to 8 hours after bedtime. Get up, wake up your dog, and go for a morning stroll. Physical activity is good for the whole body, and it can improve your emotional health as well.

Allergies, sinus dizziness are associated with sinus problems. The symptoms of these allergies are very common such as runny nose, excessive sneezing, sore throat, watery eyes, bad breath and itching nose. Sinuses are the hollow cavities in the facial bones. Inflammation of the sinuses is known as sinusitis. It is caused by viral infection or due to fungus or mold in the sinuses. Dizziness is also caused by infection but do not show any symptoms. This condition can be cured within two weeks with proper treatment.

Causes

Some irritants cause allergies and infection in the nasal channels and blockage of the drainage of sinus fluid. Some structural abnormalities within the nasal passages may also be responsible for blocking of the drainage system. The deviated septum the structure dividing the nasal passage into two sides is an example. Low immune function can also lead to infections of the nasal channels. Infections like HIV / AIDS or gastroesophagal reflux disease and non-allergic rhinitis.

Prevention

Strengthening the immune system is the best way to prevent sinusitis infection. Healthy food and supplements can reduce the probability of the occurrence of sinus infection and the associated dizziness. Equipment like proper air conditioning can also lessen the severity of infection providing the right temperature. Intake of foods with high Vitamin C content like grapes, cabbage, lemon, broccoli, strawberries and raspberries are natural decongestants.

Treatment

The best treatments and medication are available to combat the allergies and infection over the counter. The other common way is through antibiotics like amoxicillin etc. Mostly allergies sinus dizziness will get better within 10 to 14 days of taking antibiotics. Chronic patients may need longer courses. The symptoms of allergies sinus dizziness can be reduced by natural irrigation process of the sinus. It is a yogic practice called 'Neti'. This has positive effects beyond the health of the nasal irrigation system.

How to Make a Root Cellar From an Old Freezer

Here’s a ‘green’ gardening tip to make a root cellar to store our garden produce over winter without electricity or a cellar. Textbooks tell us to keep hard fruit and vegetables in ‘a dry dark cool place just above freezing’. Problem is, cellars and cool places rarely exist in today’s urban centrally-heated homes.

So one year I stored a glut of potatoes in my unheated greenhouse – in a disused chest freezer. Didn’t the freezer condense the humidity from the potatoes and rot them? No, because I’d layered the potatoes and lined the freezer with thick wads of newspaper. We were still eating (near) perfect potatoes nine months later.

You can create your own root cellar in any outdoor area, even in the city, using a discarded freezer or refrigerator. And if you don’t have garage space, perhaps you can press your unheated greenhouse into a new use?

I suspect that most gardeners use their unheated greenhouse just half of the year. In temperate climes, it comes into its own only from spring onwards when it doubles as a cold frame to harden off plants or grow on the delicate seedlings we’ve germinated under our bed.

By June, it’s full and by August our cucumbers are growing out of the roof. After October, it becomes a sanctuary for old grow bags, empty flowerpots and a child’s bicycle.

Textbook authors tell us that we could grow lettuces and Chinese leaves, and a lot more, throughout winter in an unheated greenhouse. We could force rhubarb, strawberries and new potatoes for Christmas, just by putting in a little ceramic heater to keep out the frost. But do we do it?

Meanwhile, if we’ve been diligent elsewhere in the garden we have several bagfuls of potatoes, carrots, onions and other embarrassing gluts to store safely through the winter.

Solution? Turn your greenhouse – at least, part of it – into a vegetable storage area, a root cellar.

Take a large freezer…

Take a large discarded freezer or tall refrigerator. You’ll find them at city recycling yards, either free or for a few dollars to the site attendant. Put one in the centre aisle of your greenhouse, laid on its back.

Remove and retain any interior trays or shelves. They make excellent pots or trellises for next season. Put back the lid and prop it open one inch for ventilation. Be sure to disable the lock, of course, if there’s any risk that children or old people may play hide and seek in there. You now have the perfect insulated winter storage box for tubers, hard fruits and anything else you’d keep in a root cellar.

Pack tubers in dry compost, ancient leaves, straw, wood shavings or sand. Apples and pears do well in dried marestail fronds or bracken, in my experience. And check the contents regularly to remove anything that’s starting to rot.

It doubles as a cold frame

If your freezer ‘root cellar’ is in a greenhouse and you’ve eaten the contents by early spring, the freezer can do extra service as a cold frame. Remove the lid, put pots of compost inside and grow extra-early peppers and tomatoes. Their roots gain the benefit of the wall insulation and the freezer’s white interior will reflect light back onto the plants.

Indeed, you could take the white lid off and lean it along the darkest side of your greenhouse in spring to throw welcome light back onto the plants.

What an asset is a dead freezer, when re-used as a root cellar! And how useful a cold greenhouse becomes, when it is equipped with a freezer!

Bronchitis – Serious Viral Infection

Bronchitis is a serious bacterial or viral infection. It is essentially inflammation of the mucous membranes of the bronchi which carries air from the trachea into the lungs. Millions of people have it at one point and it can come in acute or chronic. Either way, it's dangerous to have because your airflow is restricted.

Acute bronchitis starts off with a cough without mucus or other liquids. It primarily occurs during any kind of viral illness like a cold or flu.

Chronic bronchitis can last for a long time in the body without prejudice. The chronic coughing or mucus flow is never slowed down and subsequently leaves life miserable for people. Different types of air pollution and cigarette smoke are irritants that make it worse.

There are several medicines that are available to help the inflammation of the mucus or to lessen the coughing aspect of it. Antibiotics have a very limited role in controlling bronchitis so it's best not to spend money or time on antibiotics. Other natural elements such as silver deposits have been tried and true as a cure for bronchitis.

Bronchitis is not something to take loosely. Chronic bronchitis takes the lives of thousands of people each year and it's best to get ahead of it before it gets any worse. An acute case can quickly becomes a chronic case, and a chronic case can quickly lead to death.

For those who suffer with bronchitis, it is not permanent and there is no clear way to prevent it. It is something that will afflict everyone at least once in their life.

Gallstone Remedies and Vital Information – Restore Your Gallbladder Today!

The gallbladder is a small organ located in the abdomen, under the liver. It stores bile secreted by the liver, which is released when fat enters the digestive tract. The bile helps to emulsify fats of food and facilitate their digestion. Among some people, this process does not work properly; the gallbladder cannot empty enough (obstruction of the biliary tract). Therefore, the bile promotes cholesterol crystallization resulting in gallstones formation.

What are the causes of gallstones?

Gallstones are due to the retention of bile from the gallbladder for a long period of time. Gallstones can be also caused by clumping of cholesterol and various other elements such calcium in large quantities in the gallbladder.

Gallstones can be formed of cholesterol, and are usually green, white or yellow (Cholesterol stones) and represent approximately 80% of gallstones. They may also appear brown or dark (Pigment stones), while containing a high concentration of bile pigments. They can also contain calcium salts, which make them visible to the X-ray.

Risk factors of gallstones:

· Age – the risk of gallstones increases beyond 40 years of age;

· Family history – There is also a genetic factor in developing gallbladder stones;

· Disorders chronic and inflammatory of the colon such as Crohn‘s disease;

· Hemolysis – abnormal breakdown of red blood cells in the blood vessels;

· Unhealthy diet – A diet too rich in cholesterol and low in fiber increases the risk of gallstones;

· Obesity and diabetes – obesity and diabetes also increase the risk; they are often seen in people suffering of gallstones;

· Sex and pregnancy – Women are more frequently affected than men are. Hormones encourage formation of calculations; pregnancy is particularly conducive to lithogenesis (formation of calculi or stones).

How can you reduce the risk of gallstones?

To reduce the risk of gallstones in the bladder, you must have a healthy and balanced diet. It is recommended to consume a lot of dietary fiber, vegetables and many fruits. These foods play an important role in the elimination of cholesterol responsible for forming stones. Avoid eating too much fat and calorie foods. Besides diet, a regular physical exercise is crucial.

What are the complications of gallstones?

The risk of gallstones to turn into other serious diseases cannot be ignored. It is essential to treat any gallbladder infection before complications. If left untreated, symptomatic gallstones can cause cirrhosis of the liver. There are also other major risks such as cholecystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder), pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), cholangitis (inflammation of the bile duct), jaundice or a degeneration into cancer.

What is Frozen Shoulder?

The medical term for frozen shoulder is "adhesive capsulitis". This is a painful condition and makes it difficult for the sufferer to mobilize his or her shoulder. Most of the time, the condition only appears on one side of the body. And because the shoulder gets so stiff and painful, it makes doing the most simple things hard – such as scratching your head.

Although this ailment can affect people of all age groups, the most commonly affected are those between 40-60 years of age. Women make up a large majority of these statistics. Studies show that the reason this happens is because of menopause, and the changing hormonal levels of the body. People who suffer from diabetes also tend to get this condition. Here's some of the symptoms of frozen shoulder:

If you will a gradual pain that worsens as time goes by. This pain is less acute during the day times and increases when any type of strain is placed upon the shoulder. The pain can go on for around seven months and this is considered its first phase.

The second part of this condition is where the shoulder begins to tighten up and stiffen, making it difficult for you to move the upper part of your arm. By this time, the pain should have subsided though mobility is decreased. This might go on for another 5 to 8 months.

After that, either through medical treatments on natural therapy, your shoulders should begin to heal and regain its range of motion. You can do your own simple treatments at home such as applying hot compression packs onto your shoulder, followed by cold compression. This not only helps to relieve the pain but promotes blood flow and in turn reduces swelling and increases rate of recovery.

In the event that you experience severe pain or find it unbearable, your doctor might prescribe you anti-inflammatory creams or drugs that will aid in pain relief. Statistics have shown that once you experience a frozen shoulder, you will never experience it on the same shoulder ever again (it's a once off thing).

In the meantime time, take plenty of rest and immobilize your shoulder through the use of slings and braces, to help speed up recovery.

Treatment of a Compound Fractures; Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy/Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome pt.2

This is my continuing story about my experience of the treatment of a compound fractures.

After finally landing I realized that at least I had not broken my neck, my greatest fear. My sister and brother-in-law ran to find me at the bottom of the stairs. I had yelled out when first I realized that I was falling. My legs still positioned upwards, my face, part of my chest and hands the only things touching the floor at the bottom. I picked up my head from the floor. Blood flowed from my mouth telling all and me that I had apparently bitten my lip as my face hit my final destination. Kind of funny how we almost hope to see blood so we can say, “See! I am too hurt!”

It took awhile to finally decide that I could move forward. I crawled into the kitchen. My brother-in-law helped me to a chair. It looked as if I may have broken my ankle but most assuredly had broken my wrist, my right wrist. The bones pushed up against the skin. This was not something a band aid would cover. I would need treatment of a compound fractures.

I have to tell you here that I am not a doctor person. I just don’t go very much. It was clear to me though that this was going to cause me to seek one out.

My sister took me to an emergency care clinic. After ex-rays I was relieved to know that I had not broken my ankle as well.

“You are going to need an operation. We will schedule one for you later today. You should go to the hospital now and check in.” the staff at the emergency clinic told me.

“What?” All I could think of quite honestly was the cost. I, like so many Americans have no health insurance. My sister did not have home owners. My plight became daunting at that point as I sifted through thoughts of helplessness.

“How much will this cost?” my sister inquired. I could only sit there and cry.

“Well, it could cost anywhere up to eighteen, ummm, twenty one thousand dollars.” the aid replied.

I was in pain yes, but I was also distraught.

What to Do About Shoulder Pain

Although shoulder pain is not life threatening it does cause discomfort and disability. It can also last for a long time.

There are three common causes of shoulder pain. These involve the ligaments, tendons, or bursae. The ligaments connect one bone to another while tendons connect bone to muscle. The bursae are small fluid-filled sacs located at the joints.

Inflammation of the bursae is called bursitis and begins with uneasiness in the shoulder which accelerates to pain within six to twelve hours. There may also be some swelling at the tip of the shoulder.

When the tendons are affected, you have what is called rotator cuff tendinitis. The tendons and muscles around the shoulder are irritated but there is no swelling and the pain occurs only in certain positions.

If the pain is located at the front of the shoulder, you may have bicep tendinitis. This is the least common of shoulder problems unless one plays baseball or racket sports.

All of these can be treated at home and the treatment plan is the same for all three. When you first notice trouble, apply ice for thirty minutes. Then let your shoulder warm again for 15 minutes. Repeat this cycle for one to two hours.

Let your shoulder rest for at least twenty-four to forty-eight hours. When you have to move around you can use a sling. Over the counter pain medicine can be used to alleviate pain and decrease inflammation.

After the rest period begin exercise to stretch and strengthen the shoulder muscle. At first, just put your arm through a full range of motion. Then try your exercises with light weights (one pound to one and a half pounds). Every ten days, increase the weight by one half pound.

After exercising, apply ice to your shoulder. The exercise is important as complete immobilization of your arm can cause stiffness, which results in loss of motion in the shoulder or 'frozen shoulder.'

If after six weeks, your shoulder has not recovered you should seek medical help. Also, wait six weeks before doing the activity that caused the problem.

There are some shoulder problems that require immediate medical attention. Although shoulder infections are rare, if fever, swelling or redness are present, you do need medical help.

Also, collarbones are vulnerable to frequent fracture. When this happens, you will notice swelling over the collarbone and may not be able to raise your arm on that side. Your shoulders may appear uneven.

Slow poisoning – beware!

The colon is the last part of the digestive tract. It is the place where the body removes solid waste, water and salts and is the site in fermentation of unabsorbed material occurs. Cleansing the colon is a great way of detoxifying the body. Many toxins deposit in the body over a period of time. The chemical processes by which the body operates creates toxic waste products which are swept away by the circulatory and lymphatic systems and ultimately eliminated. Over time these toxins which are not removed in the process get collected in the tissues of the body. The average person is carrying around 5 to 25 pounds of compacted fecal matter in their colons.

Many of the contaminants assaulting us daily include air pollution, poor water quality, chemicals, pesticides, steroids and hormones in our food, medication and processed food filled with preservatives.

The liver, as a by-product of metabolism may have created these toxins and not removed them. Toxins can collect during the transportation and filtration process in the kidneys, blood stream or lymphatic system. Also, poor circulation and gravity can cause toxins collecting in the feet.

Symptoms of toxins in the body include bad breath, fatigue, fever, nausea, Constipation, stiff joints, nervousness, muscle soreness, anxiety and depression. headaches, back pain, muscle aches, joint pain, skin blemishes, bad breath and body odor, excess gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, and fatigue.

Many chronic diseases are due the deposition of toxins. Poor colorectal health is also a potential cause of colon cancer, obesity, and medical disorders of the digestive system. A proper cleansing program can alleviate these problems and make you healthier as your immune system will work as it should.

When your colon becomes clogged or sluggish, the toxins have no way of getting out. Toxins irritate the skin as they’re released, and can form rashes, pimples, severe acne, and other skin problems. The body secretes mucous for trapping many of the toxins trying to enter the body. When there is an excess of toxin filled mucous present, you will likely experience heavy congestion and your bodily systems won’t receive enough oxygen to maintain internal.

Human body fat stores many toxins, which makes it very difficult to shed toxic waste. Detoxifying the body makes it much easier to shed excessive fat rather than just dieting.

Since a congested colon is one of the main reasons for toxins not being able to leave your body, it makes sense to focus your initial cleansing regimen on this organ. Water is the main component in toxin removal because this helps the liver, colon, and other internal systems constantly remove wastes. Drinking about 8 glasses of water is essential to the detox program.

Therapeutic Massage is another way of cleansing the body. The important thing is to make sure that waste is eliminated rather than simply re-deposited somewhere else.

A diet of non-chemical based food is vital. Red meats, fatty dairy products, caffeinated drinks, colas, refined sugars, and processed foods in general all must go. To help in removing wastes a high fiber diet is important. During the cleansing process, contaminating particles within the colon are broken down. Now, the colon is once again able to naturally retain water and expel waste from the digestive system.

Symptoms And Causes Of Neuropathy

Neuropathy is a disease that affects the nervous system. ‘Neuro’ means nerves and ‘pathy’ means disease. It affects the nerve pathways running between the central nervous system – the brain and spinal cord – and the peripheral nervous system – motor and sensory neurons. The major symptoms are serious pain, stinging, lack of sensation and inflammation, which affect diverse parts of the body, especially feet and toes, and sometimes hands too.

Neuropathic pain, also known as neuralgia, occurs spontaneously or as a reaction to external treatments. Neuralgia is dissimilar from the common type of pain that one might experience when hit with a hammer on the toe. Neuropathic pain is steady and constant, characterized by a burning or pricking sensation, which does not result from an obvious stimulus. Whereas common pain influences only the pain nerves, neuropathy triggers both pain and non-pain sensory nerves.

Some signs of neuropathy may appear suddenly, but loss of sensation increases gradually. Neuropathic pain is common in those with cancer or HIV, as a result of the disease or drugs used for treatment. Diabetics will develop nerve damage sooner or later. Research shows that millions of Americans are affected by neuropathy, and that diabetes is one of the primary causes, responsible for more than half of those affected.

Neuropathy may also be caused by hereditary conditions, strain, and kidney disease. Methodical examination of the patient should reveal the cause. With the aid of a few blood tests, electro-diagnosis, which tests nerve conduction, and electromyography, which studies muscular and nervous function, doctors may find the cause and provide appropriate treatment. Some treatments offered are splinting, surgery, physical therapies and therapeutic drugs, depending on the diagnosis.
