Don’t skimp on cleaning milk teeth – Why bother cleaning teeth that are soon going to fall out? Milk teeth can decay easily and fall out before their time. Those first teeth serve as a guide for the second teeth appearing after. Without the milk teeth to guide them, the second teeth may be crooked and misaligned. Also cleaning the milk teeth sets up good habits in a young child. Habits picked up at an early age usually stay with us for life. 9. Don’t give baby too much Tylenol (acetaminophen) – Although it’s generally thought to be safe, Tylenol may cause damage to the liver on overdose. Never exceed the maximum daily dosage! 10. Don’t give baby aspirin, it’s dangerous. Aspirin has been linked to a potentially fatal condition known as Reye’s Syndrome in children. It’s rare, but not worth the risk. So don’t even rub baby’s gums with anything containing aspirin. You’re probably wondering if there’s anything you can do. There’s plenty! The inner-ear system plays an important role in modulating and controlling anxiety. But this is not its only job. It also performs all of the following functions:

I become extremely dizzy, light-headed, nauseous, shaky, and faint. I cling to my husband´s arm and hang on for dear life. I also urge him to talk to me so that I will be distracted. Although my husband is a patient man, he does become angry with me sometimes.”
B) Compass-Related Phobias
When the inner-ear compass is impaired it can be aggravated by tunnels, wide-open spaces, shopping malls, darkness, small enclosed spaces such as elevators, airplane cabins, and other disorienting circumstances (any or all). These triggers may provoke any or all of the following “broken-compass” symptoms:
• Anxiety, and other related symptoms
• A floating sensation
• Feelings of unreality or disassociation
When the anxiety is severe or uncontrollable due to a maladaptive anxiety response, phobic behavior may result.
Compass-Related Phobias: An Example
Connie has numerous compass-related phobias, including a fear of shopping malls, department stores, and supermarkets. She explains:
“I would only shop in small stores or in department stores I knew well. Anything complicated seemed to overwhelm and consume me. It was as if I became overloaded, confused, and dizzy all at the same time. Panic would result. Once I even got lost and couldn´t find my way out of my own school library. It was as if I had completely lost my orientation and sense of direction. I panicked. I don´t think I’ve ever been so scared.”
The vast majority of phobias can be traced to a physiological problem: a malfunction within the inner-ear system! The inner-ear system plays an important role in modulating and controlling anxiety. In my blog I have further discussed these problems.
Alcoholism stages can be categorized into three stages of alcoholism – early stage, middle stage and end stage alcoholism or late stage alcoholism. Alcoholism stages generally take years to develop. Alcoholism is a disease where alcoholic beverage consumption is at a level that interferes with physical or mental health, and negatively impacts social, family or occupational responsibilities.
Consuming no more than one or two drinks per day for healthy men and a drink a day for healthy non-pregnant women are generally considered acceptable alcohol consumption without health risks. However, as the amount or frequency of drinking increases, the earliest of the alcoholism stages can develop as a result.
Early Stages of Alcoholism
In the early alcoholism stages, a person begins to depend on alcohol to affect their mood. They drink for relief from problems, and they begin thinking more and more about alcohol. The person and others around them may not recognize that they are in the earliest of the stages of alcoholism. A gradual increase in tolerance happens, meaning, it takes increasing amounts of alcohol to achieve the desired mood-altering effects. Often, the person can consume large amounts of alcohol without appearing impaired.
In the early alcoholism stages, the body has adapted to increasing amounts of alcohol. In fact, how a person functions will likely be improved with drinking as blood alcohol levels rise. For example, they can think and talk normally or walk a straight line with no problem. However, with continued alcohol consumption over time, the body begins to lose its ability to deal with high alcohol levels. As this occurs, when the alcoholic stops drinking and their blood alcohol level decreases, their thinking, talking or walking functions deteriorate, and they are moving into the next of the stages of alcoholism.
Middle Alcoholism Stages
The need and desire to drink gradually becomes more intense. Drinking larger amounts and more often happens as well as drinking earlier in the day. The alcoholic is losing control over drinking, and the body is losing its ability to process alcohol like it did in the early stages of alcoholism. Their tolerance decreases as they become intoxicated more easily. Withdrawal symptoms begin to become more severe if alcohol is reduced.
The person may now secretly recognize there is a drinking problem, and others may begin to notice as well. Unfortunately, the alcoholic no longer can judge how much alcohol their body can handle. Typically, the drinker denies to themselves and others that alcohol is a problem so they will not have to deal with their inner turmoil. Hangovers, blackouts and stomach problems can now be physical symptoms that occur on a regular basis.
End Stage Alcoholism
As alcoholism progresses, the alcoholic has become obsessed with drinking to the exclusion of nearly everything else. Everyone can tell there's a major problem. During the late alcoholism stages, the mental and physical health of the alcoholic are seriously deteriorating. Many of the body's organs have been damaged which lowers resistance to disease. Relationships at home or socially may have been severely damaged, and there can be mounting financial and legal problems due to the alcoholic's powerlessness over alcohol.
Every alcoholic will suffer from malnutrition. Alcohol in large amounts interferes with the digestion process and the passage of nutrients from the intestines into the bloodstream. Liver function has been damaged, further limiting the conversion of nutrients into a usable form that the body can assimilate. The damaged cells are not receiving the needed nutrients, they can not repair themselves and the damage continues. Nutritional deficiencies cause a host of related problems to become worse. For example, vitamin B-1 deficiency common in alcoholics can result in loss of mental alertness and appetite, fatigue, confusion and emotional instability.
And if the alcoholic continues drinking, alcohol will cause the death of the alcoholic in one way or another. From suicide, accidents and related injuries to direct damage to the body's organs and systems, death will likely be the final outcome of end stage alcoholism.

Causes and Symptoms Of Gall Bladder Problems
Gall bladder diseases and problems are fairly common and affect both men and women.
Some of the gall bladder problems are caused by:
1. Production of toxic bile by the liver
2. Inadequate production of bile

Unlike aromatherapy this isn’t a self-help technique as you will need to consult a licensed practitioner. Be sure this person is registered with a reputable professional body and will observe good hygiene practices.
* Talking things over with someone trustworthy may bring closure to unresolved worries and resentments. But be careful who you talk to – ideally a completely disinterested third-party, or at least someone completely divorced from the situation that’s causing you anxiety. Counselors or Cognitive Behavioral Therapists are highly recommended to help reduce the occurrence of panic attacks.
* Many herbal products have benefits for panic and anxiety symptoms. Consult a qualified herbalist – this is not an area where self-help is advised.

Recent studies have shown alcohol dehydrogenase is more readily released in young livers, which is why hangovers get worse as we age. The enzymes the liver produces to protect the body convert alcohol into acetaldhyde, which damages the liver. That is why heavy drinking can lead to liver failure. Alcohol also affects your blood sugar which gives muscles energy, if you do not have enough energy, your muscles will not shake. The more often you drink alcohol, the less likely you will get the shakes. This is not a good sign – it means your body is desensitizing towards alcohol.

Sleeplessness or problems sleeping among teenagers may not appear serious at first, but insomnia in teenagers is very much a reality. In fact, insomnia in teenagers is very common.
In a study particularly among US teens, more than 90% reported having problems sleeping at least twice per week within the past year. For some, insomnia seemed chronic and recurrent, beginning from the age of 11.
And because of school the next day, teens still need to get up early despite lack of sleep. This sleep deprivation can cause irritability, moodiness, and difficulty learning and concentrating, thus affecting teenagers’ school performance. An even more serious effect of insomnia is that it can be a prelude to depression or anxiety disorder. Studies also show that young people (16-29 years old) are most prone to auto accidents as a result of falling asleep behind the wheel.
Causes of Insomnia in Teenagers
At the onset of puberty, a person’s body clock changes. Before adolescence, this clock directs the person to naturally fall asleep around 8 or 9 pm. For teens, though, this time is delayed two hours or later.
Moreover, as this age is usually the time of exploration and discovery among teens, this is when they start drinking, smoking, and staying out late with their friends. They may also start drinking coffee to stay alert during the day. These habits, though, can cause or aggravate insomnia in teenagers and may give rise to other sleep disorders.
Stress in school, like peer pressure, school performance, and relationship with teachers can also contribute to insomnia.
Some cases of insomnia, though, can start as early as childhood and continue up to the teenage years. Insomnia in children usually occurs when the child has become dependent on a person or condition that he/she associates with sleep – for example, a parent. Without that, these children have a hard time sleeping.
Treatment of Insomnia in Teenagers
Below are some treatments for insomnia in teenagers. Though these may be done on your own, it is still best to seek advice from a doctor or qualified medical practitioner.
1) Light Therapy. Expose your teens to bright light in the mornings. This will help their body feel that it is time to wake up. A device called a light box can be used for this purpose.
2) On the other hand, keeping the bedroom dark or in subdued light can signal to the body that it is time to sleep.
3) Chronotherapy. Delay bedtime by two or three hours progressively every night for several succeeding nights. For example, if your teen usually sleeps at midnight, you can make him/her stay up until 2 or 3 am and get up at 10 or 11 am. The next night, he/she will sleep at 6 am and wake up at 2 pm, and so on. Continue with this until you reach the desired bedtime. This may be best to do towards the end of the summer break.
4) Medications with melatonin. Melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone, can help. Let your teen take it five hours before the desired bedtime. Taking this, though, should be more of a last resort as this can have side effects. It is best to take this under a doctor’s supervision.
Apart from these treatments, you can do the following to help your teens sleep better:
1) Encourage them to exercise during the day, but not within three hours before bedtime. Regular exercise can help establish healthy sleep patterns.
2) Discourage them to do homework or anything mentally stimulating one hour before bedtime.
3) Decrease caffeine in their diet.
4) Remove distractions from their bedroom, like the telephone or TV.
5) If they are worried about the things to do the next day, let them make a list to eliminate anxiety for the moment.
Though insomnia in teenagers can be serious, it is treatable. With you and your teens working together, they can sleep better and be healthier.
