The Leading Oral Thrush Treatments

Hi friends,

The goal of any oral thrush treatment in adults is to stop the rapid spreads of the fungus called candida. In order to do that we must understand the root of the problem according to age, general health, or other factors that may be causing the infection.

Diabetics who have had a high blood sugar event recently are very likely to have a episode of thrush. The best solution here may be as simple as rinsing your mouth with a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide a couple of times a day, maybe just eating yogurt several times a day and trying to avoid any more high blood sugar events.

If you drink alcohol frequently or have a high carbohydrate and sugars diet you are at higher risk of getting a thrush infection. The body converts alcohol and carbohydrates into sugar. This high level of sugar present in the saliva is the perfect environment for candida to thrive in. The best oral thrush treatment here maybe a simple diet change along with eating yogurt or rinsing your mouth with a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution.

People with dentures often are at higher risk for thrush. It’s possible the best oral thrush treatment in this case might be to soak your dentures every night in chlorhexidine gluconate to help prevent the spread of candida. People with dentures often suffer from recurring thrush and they don’t think they can get rid of it. However quite often they cure themselves and then give them selves another infection through their infected dentures.e

If you’re taking antibiotics you might experience thrush because even though the antibiotics are helping to heal whatever your taking them for. They are also killing some of the “good” bacteria that live in your mouth that help keep candida in check. A good oral thrush treatment for you is to first see if you are experiencing any other signs of a yeast infection. Just to make sure you have not developed anything like a systemic yeast infection. A systemic yeast infection can cause a multitude of problems and thrush may be the first you notice. If it’s just thrush you can do the same as suggest above eating yogurt and rinsing your mouth with 3% hydrogen peroxide, even though this won’t cure a reoccurring problem.

Basically the absolute best oral thrush treatment or any kind of candida infection treatment whether it be skin, ear, penile, vaginal, digestive or even athlete’s foot has to kill all the candida living in your entire body. Anytime you have a yeast overgrowth it is called one of these types of infections but it is basically all caused by the same candida. There are different strains of candida but they can all be killed the same exact way and you can be free of any of these infections for life.

People with HIV/Aids get thrush often because of a weakened immune system. Even though getting rid of thrush temporarily may be easy trying to prevent another one is tricky. You have to find a way to help your body control candida levels. This may be through diet or a anti fungal form your doctor.

Suntan and Psoriasis

People with psoriasis enjoy sun tanning just as much as people without psoriasis, and usually even more. Not only the sun gives your skin a nice golden color but if you have psoriasis – the sun also helps you to temporarily get rid of your psoriatic plaques.

Some of us are lucky enough to live in the areas with a constant summer (Southern California, Southern Florida etc.). But the majority enjoys the sun only in the summer months. Some people with psoriasis not only take frequent vacations to the places with a warm climate, but even try to relocate there in order to keep their psoriasis in check.

Unfortunately, this does not pertain to the people with the summer type of psoriasis. The sun actually aggravates the state of their skin and psoriasis.

But what exactly is a suntan? Suntan is the reaction of the skin to the sun. Our skin tries to protect itself from the excessive sun rays by starting to produce more of the melanin pigment. The pigment melanin gives the skin its nuance – pink, brown etc. People with darker skin are better protected from the sun. They usually develop a nice even suntan. People with a fair skin, instead of an even suntan may develop sunburns and uneven pigmentation. This is due to that their skin does not produce enough of melanin to protect itself.

After stopping the exposure to the UV rays, the skin stops producing excessive melanin and returns to its usual color.

Excessive sun causes damages, starting with painful blisters and premature skin aging, and including melanoma – skin cancer.

It is a fact that people with the winter type of psoriasis can temporary get rid of their plaques with a regular timed exposure to the sun rays. But why does this happen? The thing is that the sun rays exterminate the excessive T-cells in the skin. And the T-cells of people with psoriasis are one of the culprits of psoriatic plaques. Furthermore, the remaining T-cells lose their ability to express the IFN-gamma cytokines, which play a big role in the inflammatory processes.

Does it make sense to suntan in order to get rid of psoriasis? I believe that it does. The benefits in this case outweigh the negative side-effects.

Most celebrities and other public people maintain their skin with a bronze hue year round. Why do they do it? Because tanned skin usually looks more smooth and healthy and shows less imperfections than pale skin. Don’t they know about the adverse side effects of constantly subjecting their skin to the UV rays? I believe that they do. But their looks are much more important for them as it directly contributes to their public image, fame and therefore profits.

People with psoriasis suffer from the unpleasant external manifestations of psoriasis. Will getting rid of these manifestations outweigh the side-effects such as premature skin aging? I believe so.

Simply try to be careful with sun tanning. Start to tan with short periods. Keep a record of how long you suntan in order not to burn. Moisturize your skin after each sun tanning. You may also want to see your dermatologist in order to start regularly monitoring the state of your skin while you are sun tanning.

Hepatitis Basics

Most people infected with hepatitis may not even be aware that they possess the virus because its symptoms are similar to that of the flu. Hepatitis cases are becoming more and more frequent in the United States, primarily due to the public’s lack of information about the virus and how it affects the liver.

The liver is responsible for many bodily processes, including filtering out toxic, harmful substances from the blood. The liver must process everything we ingest and when the organ is stressed due to the hepatitis virus, it is unable to perform at its optimal ability.

Of the hepatitis viruses, A, B and C are the most common in the United States. There are various myths surrounding this disease, from whether already having one form of the virus prevents you from getting another or if a vaccination against one strain protects against another. It is possible to be infected with more than one form of hepatitis at a time, and whichever vaccine you receive will only protect you from that particular form of hepatitis. These faulty assumptions only increase the chances for infection.

Hepatitis A and B are much less prevalent than HCV, the most common form of hepatitis. HCV is spread through blood-to-blood contact and often develops into chronic liver disease.

When infected with hepatitis, symptoms can include jaundice, muscle and joint pain, and fatigue, all of which are similar to cold or flu symptoms.

As of yet, there is no cure for hepatitis C, and the treatment methods available through Western Medicine have not proven to be highly successful. A combination of treatments is typically the best course of action against hepatitis.

Coffee's Liver Benefits

The healthcare community has done its fair share of investigating the effects of drinking coffee, and a subsequent array of health warnings and encouragements have been issued regarding its regular consumption.

Since the liver processes all that we ingest, people living with liver disease, including hepatitis, must be extra vigilant in watching everything entering their digestive system. Coffee is turning heads as a liver cancer and cirrhosis preventative. It has also been noted as a factor in reducing insulin resistance, a prominent liver disease risk factor. The keys to accentuate coffee's benefits while avoiding any harm are to stay within moderation, be aware of conditions contraindicating its consumption, and be careful of what you add to your brew.

"Overall, the research shows that coffee is far more healthful than it is harmful," says Tomas DePaulis, PhD, research scientist at Vanderbilt University's Institute for Coffee Studies, which conducts its own medical research and tracks coffee studies from around the world. "For most people, very little bad comes from drinking it, but a lot of good."

Benefits of Coffee

The latest research confirms that moderate coffee consumption harbors several benefits, including:

· Reduces the risk of alcoholic cirrhosis

· Decreases risk of type 2 diabetes

· Reduces risk of developing gallstones

· Discourages the development of colon and liver cancer

· Improves cognitive function

· Reduces headache / migraine severity

· Reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease

· Improves endurance performance in long-duration physical activities

· Reduces the risk of liver damage in people at high risk for liver disease

Liver Benefits

In a Japanese study, researchers looked at the association between coffee consumption and liver cancer among the middle-aged and elderly. Those who drank coffee daily, or close to it, had about half the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a type of liver cancer, than people who never drank coffee. Among daily coffee drinkers specifically, the liver cancer rate was over 200 cases per 100,000 people over 10 years. Among those who never drank coffee the rate rose to nearly 550 cases per 100,000 people. The more coffee consumed, the lower the HCC risk.

Based on data collected from more than 125,000 people, researchers from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in California recently reported a 22 percent daily reduction of liver cirrhosis risk from alcohol with each cup of coffee consumed. Hepatitis c and other liver disease can also cause cirrhosis. Study co-author, Dr. Arthur Klatsky reports that the study found coffee did not protect the liver against those other causes of scarring.

Several studies have demonstrated that drinking coffee lowers the liver enzyme GGT, especially among heavy alcohol drinkers. Although GGT is a relevant indicator of cirrhosis risk, the liver enzyme ALT is a more specific marker of liver injury. Several population-based surveys from Italy and Japan have found a similar inverse relationship between drinking coffee and ALT levels.

Diabetes Benefits

Type 2 diabetes and one of its precursors, insulin resistance, have been making headlines in various health reports as a leading cause of fatty liver disease. (Read the posted article, How to Prevent a Fatty Liver.) After analyzing data on 126,000 people for as long as 18 years, Harvard researchers calculated that compared to those who do not partake in America's favorite morning drink, people who consume one to three cups of caffeinated coffee daily can reduce diabetes risk by up to 10%. Having six cups or more each day slashed men's diabetes risk by 54% and women's by 30% over java abstainers.

Coffee is loaded with antioxidants, including a group of compounds called quinines that when administered to lab rats, increased insulin sensitivity. This increased sensitivity improves the body's response to insulin. Coffee also has large amounts of magnesium and the antioxidants, chlorogenic acid and tocopherols. Each has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism, reducing the risk and severity of diabetes.

Possible Harm

As reported in the Harvard Women's Health Watch, coffee is not completely devoid of risks. Caffeine, coffee's main ingredient, is a mildly addictive stimulant with cardiovascular effects such as increased heart rate, increased blood pressure and occasional irregular heartbeat. Studies have been largely inconclusive regarding coffee and its effect on women's health issues such as breast health, gynecological cancers and osteoporosis. Coffee has also been reported to aggravate previously existing gastrointestinal ulcers.

Researchers are quick to point out that caffeine is a drug, and can be abused if used in place of a good night's rest or a healthy diet. We each have our own thresholds for caffeine. Most people can tolerate two cups of coffee each day without a problem. But any more than that may cause nervousness, rapid heartbeat, palpitations, sleeplessness and irritability. It can even lead to health problems such as osteoporosis or high blood pressure. Additionally, skipping your usual morning cup of joe can lead to a caffeine withdrawal headache.

Brew Additives

The greater risk of coffee consumption lies with the ingredients typically added to java. Creating a "light and sweet" drink carries an entirely separate set of hazards. Whipped cream, flavored syrups, half-and-half, sugar, sucralose and aspartame can contribute to diabetes, obesity, fatty liver disease and toxic liver reactions. Below are the statistics for a few common coffee additives:

· 2 tablespoons of flavored liquid nondairy creamer = 80 calories and 4 g fat.

· 1 tablespoon of plain liquid nondairy creamer = 25 calories, 2 g fat.

· 1 tablespoon half-and-half = 20 calories, 2 g fat.

· 1 tablespoon cream = 50 calories, 6 g fat.

· 1 tablespoon whipped cream = 90 calories, 9 g fat.

· A drizzle of Starbucks caramel syrup = 25 calories.

· 2 tablespoons flavored syrup = 80 calories, no fat.

· 2 tablespoons malt = 90 calories, 2 g fat.

· 1 tablespoon mocha syrup = 25 calories, .5 g fat.

· 1 teaspoon sugar = 15 calories.

If you prefer your coffee light and sweet, choose your additives wisely to support the healthful benefits offered by your beverage.

Putting it all Together

Individuals with pre-existing liver disease, or who are at high risk of its development, may want to think twice before sacrificing the enjoyment of a coffee ritual. While the proof of coffee reducing the risk of cirrhosis is limited to alcohol-related cirrhosis, its benefits transcend this one condition. In its entirety, this evidence supports coffee's role in liver health. When selecting your beverage of choice, consider coffee's ability to reduce insulin resistance, improve liver enzyme levels and prevent against liver cancer. As long as you do not harbor another risk factor to prohibit java consumption, proceed moderately and are conscious of the additives you chose, feel good about lifting your favorite cup in support of your liver's health.

Prevention Of Nail Fungus Infection

You may have ever noticed someone with rather awful looking nails. They may be rock hard and yellow in color or perhaps there is not a nail at all. The yellowing, hardness and non-existent symptoms are all common signs of such an infection. To some extent it’s awful to think about that but the non-existence is a prime symptom of those who don’t use nail fungus treatments to solve their problem.

Although washing may seem like the obvious choice, it is not actually useful. There are other ways to ensure that you never need nail fungus treatments. Clipping your nails so that they are straight and short (not too short) is a good way in which you can prevent the need for nail fungus treatments. Cutting the nails too short can leave them with tiny nicks and gaps in which the fungus can penetrate and then grow. Therefore, make sure that you make a nice clean cut along the top of the nails and then file them down.

Dry and clean feet can help to prevent nail fungus infections as this can make the area uninhabitable for passing fungal infections. Although it will not prevent nails from occurring, this can massively help to reduce symptoms and also the likelihood that the bacteria finds the area a nice place to thrive. You should also think about changing your socks a couple of times per day and never wear shoes that are in a bad state.

Never share shoes or socks with others and always make sure that you wear flip flops or other suitable footwear in public places such as a swimming pool or the gym. Sharing things such as those and also tools like clippers can help the spread of bacteria and particularly the fungus and will make you more susceptible to catch the contagious condition. Last but not least never share athletes foot treatments with anyone else regardless of whether you have the condition or not.

Of course, prevention is best to avoid nail fungus but if the fungus does occur, you must take actions to solve the problem. Obviously if you have managed to get a cure at the onset of a fungal infection, the nail will not become so unattractive in practice. However, leaving the nail without right treatment can eventually lead to the nail bed lifting and debris collecting under it which will not only look awful but can be very painful at the same time.

The more the infection spreads on the nail, the more the nail itself will detach from the nail bed and without nail fungus treatments you may find that you will eventually be left with no nail. The best way to prevent this is to visit your doctor or other medical professional as soon as you notice that anything has changed with your nails and to get a treatment as soon as you can.

Also you can search some useful information about the nail fungus treatments on the Internet in advance and there are some options you can take for treatment. (1) Prescribed oral medications are effective, which must be taken for several months. However, these medications can have harmful side effects including headaches, upset stomach, liver damage and rashes. (2) Over the counter treatments. This are effective for your average case of fungal infection. You have to know which one that works though. (3) Natural remedies such as apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil are supposedly helpful in treating finger nail fungus. In addition, some essential oils can treat the condition, initially. Aside from curing finger nail fungus, these natural oils have other benefits in the overall health.

Kidney Stones Alternative Treatment – Why Phosphoric Acid Can Dissolve Kidney Stones

Before you start chugging the water, did you know that the newest kidney stones alternative treatment works with phosphoric acid? The reason why phosphoric acid is so effective is because it dissolves kidney stones.

If you are diagnosed with renal calculi, your doctor has probably mentioned that drinking plenty of water is the best remedy for the disease. However, by adding phosphoric acid you can greatly increase the chances of flushing one or numerous kidney stones.

Here's why this common acid is the newest rave in renal calculi treatments!

Phosphoric Acid and Kidney Stones

The number of people who have been diagnosed with this disease has sky rocketed in the past 20 years! Most doctors believe this is because most of us are currently dehydrated (not getting enough water) and do not even know it! Most likely due to the amount of beverages available, water is no longer the drink of choice. And unfortunately, dehydration breeds kidney stones.

A kidney stone is a solid mass made up of tiny crystals. One or more stones can be in the kidney or ureter at the same time. Most stones are made up of calcium deposits. The good news about this is that calcium is a mineral which can be easily dissolved.

Phosphoric acid has many uses to man. You can find it in an assortment of beverages, foods and even cleaners. For example, it is used as an industrial strength rust removal solution. Consumable phosphoric acid can also be used to dissolve the calcium crystals because its chemical make-up will break up other compounds such as rust. It has also been shown to break up calcium deposits in bathrooms! Hint! Hint!

Using Phosphoric Acid as a Kidney Stones Alternative Treatment

As your doctor has recommended, there is no substitute for drinking water! You should currently be drinking at least 10-12 tall glasses of water every day. Keeping your body hydrated and flushing your body with water can be critical to flushing your body.

Along with water, phosphoric acid can also be beneficial to your kidneys. By drinking beverages with this acid, you can naturally dissolve kidney stones. Because the liver plays no role in acid base regulation, the acid penetrates the stones and breaks them into smaller mineral deposits. The body is then able to flush them naturally with no medications and no surgeries.

Finally, along with water, we also recommend a high water-soluble fiber diet. Some vegetables have been noted as extremely effective because they naturally flush the body of toxins, impurities, and even calcium kidney stones.

Motion Sickness

At one point in our lives, we all tend to experience a little bit of motion sickness. Whether it’s getting a severe headache from reading too long in a car while it’s moving or whether we’re sitting on a small plane that’s going through some serious turbulence, motion sickness tends to affect everyone to some degree. Motion sickness (aka: kinetosis) is defined by Wikipedia as a condition in which there is a disagreement between what you visually perceive as moving versus what the vestibular system perceives is moving.

Importance of the Vestibular System

Your vestibular system is your balance system- it’s what is in charge of your equilibrium. The vestibular system plays an integral role in motion sickness and is made up of your auditory system. It is comprised of two main components: the semicircular canal system (which detects rotational movements) and the otoliths (which indicate linear translations). This system then sends signals to your brain that control your equilibrium (ex: being able to sit up straight). So, in a nutshell, it’s really important in how we are able to function on a day-to-day basis.

Symptoms of Motion Sickness

Most people who are suffering from this sickness suffer from symptoms that include: dizziness, nausea, fatigue and vomiting. Vomiting is one of the more extreme side effects of someone experiencing motion sickness. Vomiting usually occurs when the person cannot resolve whatever motion is causing the nausea. It has been hypothesized in the past that vomiting evolved over time as a sort of defense mechanism against neurotoxins in the brain. Vomiting was a way for the brain to get rid of the unwanted toxins.

Though it is an unpleasant feeling/experience, motion sickness is a great example of how our bodies process things internally. Motion sickness results when the human brain receives conflicting messages from the body. For example, if you were to put a group of people in a closed in cabin on a boat in rough seas, chances are that a great portion of those people, if not all, would experience some degree of motion sickness. We can feel the boat moving up and down and from side to side, but we cannot see anything. Therefore, what we feel versus what we see is interpreted by our brain in a confusing manner, resulting in us feeling dizzy or nauseous.

Motion sickness can occur wherever there is motion. The different types of this sickness include: airsickness, sea-sickness, simulation sickness, space sickness and car sickness.

Preventing Motion Sickness

The effects of motion sickness can be lessened or avoided all together by gazing towards the horizon (if you are in a moving car for example). This will help re-orient a person’s equilibrium, by providing a visual reaffirmation of motion (Wikipedia). If you are a passenger while you are in a moving vehicle, closing your eyes and taking a nap will also help alleviate motion sickness. If these methods don’t work, there are over the counter drugs as well as prescription drugs to counteract the side effects of this sickness.

How to Prevent Food Poisoning

If you've never had the pleasure of experiencing the joys of food poisoning than you have not lived. That's just a joke, actually! Getting food poisoning is no laughing matter, though. I can tell you from personal experience that is no fun! I had it a few years ago from under cooked ground turkey meat and I was sick to my stomach and dizzy for a good day. I had to leave work, walk home and almost fainted on the sidewalk. I could not even see straight! Read on to learn more about how you can prevent it from ever happening to you or a loved one.

Always wash your hands and everything else that comes in contact with food. This includes utensils, cutting boards, countertops, table ware, and cook ware. Wash hands with warm water for at least 20 seconds before handling food, after handling uncooked meat / produce and wash between preparing each type of food. Separate raw foods from other kinds of food and use a separate cutting board for meat and vegetables. Do not use the same utensils or dish ware with uncooked or other foods. Keep it out of the danger zone (40 F and 140F) by cooking it thoroughly. Check the internal temperature of meat with a clean thermometer and make sure it's at least 140 F. It is not good enough to just eye ball it to see if it's brown.

Keep food cold and chill leftovers quickly in refrigerator at 40 F or below or a freezer at 0 or below. Refrigerate or freeze food within 2 hours or 1 hour if the outside temperature is 90 degrees or above. Thaw frozen food in refrigerator, rather than the counter. If you need it quicker, thaw it under running cold water or in the microwave and cook immediately. If you do get food poisoning after taking the necessary precautions, the nausea and vomiting should go away within a day or two. Seek medical attention if you still feel ill after 2 days.

Natural Cures For Peptic Ulcers

Peptic ulcer, also known as ulcus pepticum or stomach ulcer is an ulcer of an area of the gastrointestinal tract. It may be the symptoms of another disease or condition. It will get worse if not treated.

Most peptic ulcers are caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) and anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Other causes of peptic ulcers are smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and stress. Actually, stress and spicy food does not cause peptic ulcers but they can make ulcers worse or keep them from healing.

The symptoms of peptic are vary and sometimes one may not have any symptoms at all. The most common symptoms are sudden severe burning pain in the stomach, loss of weight and appetite, worse stomach when it is empty, nausea or vomiting, black or tar-like stool, and unusual weakness, usually because of anemia.

Natural home remedies for peptic ulcers:

  1. Eat bananas everyday.
  2. Boiled 250gm of cabbage in 1liter of water until it reduced to half the amount. In a similar way boiled carrot, after it has cool, than mixed the cabbage and carrot juice, and drink twice a day.
  3. Drink lime juice everyday.
  4. Drink milk twice or thrice times a day.
  5. Take 2 to 3 teaspoons of honey everyday.
  6. Drink tea made from Fenugreek seeds.
  7. Take the powder of dry Indian gooseberry (Amla) and sugar one teaspoon three times a day.
  8. Drink raw goat milk.
  9. Take the mixture of drumstick paste and curd, 2 or 3 times a day.

Diet and other regimen:

Fried foods and spices, especially chilies, should be totally prohibited. Bland, easily-digestible foods should be the mainstay of the patient’s diet. Milk should be freely taken, preferably at intervals of three to four hours during the day, because the pain of the ulcer occurs at times when the stomach is empty. Milk, wheat, and ghee should be taken in adequate quantities.

In addition to the diet prescribe above, the patient must be advised to keep himself free worry and stresses of life which are likely to exacerbate the ulcer pain. He must take sufficient rest and sleep for an hour or so during the day. His bowel must be ensured because constipation can only contribute to worsening of the condition. The best way to deal with constipation of patient suffering from gastric ulcers is either husk or fleaseed taken at bedtime or castor oil. No strong purgatives should be administered to such patients.

Causes and Symptoms of Menopause

Menopause

Menopause is the absence of menstrual periods for 12 months. The menopausal transition starts with varying menstrual cycle length and ends with the final menstrual period. Perimenopause means “the time around menopause” and is often used to refer to the menopausal transitional period.

Menopause affects every woman. Premature menopause symptoms (or early menopause symptoms) may include irregular periods or hot flashes. Other signs of menopause include night sweats, sleep difficulties, and irritability.

Causes and symptoms of menopause

Because hormone levels fall, changes occur in the entire female reproductive system. The vaginal walls become less elastic and thinner. The vagina becomes shorter. Lubricating secretions from the vagina become watery. The outside genital tissue decreases. This is called atrophy of the labia.

Breast changes: Menopause may cause changes in the shape of the breasts.

Weight gain: A 3-year study of healthy women nearing menopause found an average gain of 5 pounds during the 3 years. Hormonal changes and aging are both possible factors in this weight gain.

There is very little high-quality scientific evidence about the effectiveness and long-term safety of CAM therapies for menopausal symptoms. More research is needed.

Menopause is the medical term for the end of a woman’s menstrual cycles. It is a natural part of a woman’s life and occurs when the ovaries stop making hormones. This causes estrogen levels to drop and leads to the end of menstrual cycles. Menopause can also occur when the ovaries are surgically removed.

Screening Tests for Women

Obesity: Have your body mass index (BMI) calculated to screen for obesity. (BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight.) You can also find your own BMI with the BMI calculator from the National Heart, Lung.

Colorectal Cancer: Have a test for colorectal cancer starting at age 50. Your doctor can help you decide which test is right for you. If you have a family history of colorectal cancer, you may need to be screened earlier.

Home-Use Tests – Menopause

This is a home-use test kit to measure Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) in your urine.

This may help indicate if you are in menopause or perimenopause.

Why should you do this test?

You should use this test if you want to know if your symptoms, such as irregular periods, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, or sleep problems are part of menopause. While many women may have little or no trouble when going through the stages of menopause,

Treatments of menopause

Exercise

Exercise is an important part of preventative health care for postmenopausal women. By increasing cardiovascular fitness and strengthening the bones, exercise helps prevent heart disease and osteoporosis.

Treatments for specific symptoms such as lubricants for vaginal dryness or anti-depressants for emotional changes

Bioidentical hormones may be an option for women who are at risk for certain types of cancer and/or have failed treatment with prescription estrogens and progesterone.

Ayurvedic Basic Dietary Guidelines

According to the Ayurvedic principles your diet should be based upon your individual constitution (the three doshas or constitutions are: Vata, Pitta and Kapha). In the Ayurvedic literature there are several types of nutritional disorders:

1. Quantitative deficiency: insufficient food leading to under-nutrition or even starvation.

2. Qualitative deficiency: wrong food combination resulting in malnutrition, insufficient essential nutrients and sometimes toxic conditions.

3. Qualitative and quantitative over-nutrition: Overeating resulting in obesity, hypertension, heart diseases, high cholesterol levels.

4. Toxins in food: certain foods or food combination’s lead to toxemia and digestive disorders.

5. Foods that are not suitable to your individual constitution: can cause immune deficiency and disease.

The above mentioned nutritional disorders are connected to the strength of “gastric fire” or agni. Your gastric fire can be disturbed by an excess of vata dosha causing irregular appetite, indigestion and gases. The pitta dosha is responsible for an agni disorder resulting in hyperacidity, heartburn, hyper-metabolism and hypo glycaemia. An excess of kapha dosha can lead to slow metabolism, allergies and overweight. The “ideal” agni is a result of balanced tri-dosha, so a person having a balanced gastric fire can eat almost any type of food, and digestion, absorption and elimination of food are normal.

But, there is another important factor in food digestion and that is food combination. According to Ayurveda every food has its own taste, a healing or cooling energy to it and a post-digestive effect. So mixing different food tastes, energies or post-digestive effects can result in bad digestion (because agni slows down) and production of toxins.

According to Ayurveda one should take fruits, vegetables, starches, proteins and fats separately taking in consideration their constitution and the particular time of the day.

As for the influence of foods on the tri-dosha the principles are as follows:

– Pitta increases with foods that are sour and pungent.

– Kapha aggravates with milk products.

– Vata is over-stimulated by beans, dry fruits, astringent and bitter substances.

In Ayurvedic literature is suggested that you can chew 1/2 teaspoon of fresh ginger before each meal to stimulate appetite and digestion, while you should avoid drinking cold or icy water during or after the meal because it slows your gastric juices. It is suggested that you take small sips of warm water (or at room temperature) during the meals. You can end your meal with a cup of lassi (you blend 4 teaspoons of yogurt with 2 pinches of ginger and cumin powder in a cup of water).

When eating, one third of your stomach should be filled with food, one third with liquid and one third should be empty, in order to allow a proper digestion.

Here are some basic guidelines you should follow in order to avoid digestive problems. These guidelines should be followed depending on your lifestyle, type of activity and seasons. For example most people need to eat a more consistent breakfast during wintertime. Fear, Anxiety, Worry, Shyness, & Panic

If you have found this article then you probably are interested in knowing more about anxiety, social anxiety or shyness, stress, worry, and related problems or disorders, what they are & how to get over them. You are in the right place! I am a Santa Rosa based psychologist and psychotherapist who was formally the head of the Anxiety Disorder Best Practices for all of Northern California Kaiser-Permanente Psychiatry. I have some very important information to share with you about anxiety disorders!

Fact: Anxiety Disorders are the most common mental health problem in the US!

Over the course of a lifetime, Anxiety Disorders will affect 25 to 30% of the entire US population! There are 6 primary anxiety disorders: Simple phobia, Panic Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder & Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). There are also Adjustment Disorders with Anxious Features (also very common).

Anxiety is an out of control fear response

Anxiety is related to fear, a basic emotion which we all share. If humans had no fear, humankind would not survive! In this sense, fear is adaptive and has many forms: panic, worry, apprehension, nervousness, and even feeling stressed out. Fear is supposed to serve a useful purpose and is nature’s way of getting your mind and body prepared to face some type of actual or genuine threat. A common fear response causes your attention to narrow onto what you are afraid of and also causes your body to become charged with adrenaline to “flee or fight”. Anxiety, on the other hand, is maladaptive and causes a reaction similar or identical to a fear response but… there is little or nothing to really be afraid of! Anxiety causes you to overreact to situations, people, sensations, and even memories! Anxiety is an easily triggered and misplaced reaction.

What causes anxiety? Can anxiety lead to depression?

Anxiety is primarily caused by a combination of predisposing factors that interact with your environment. Predisposing factors include past histories of trauma or abuse, problems in your early emotional connection with caregivers, modeling of anxious behaviors by caregivers, domestic violence, being bullied or picked on, ongoing work related stress, history of accidents or medical illnesses, genes and temperament, and other factors. With these predispositions in place you are more vulnerable to developing problematic anxiety or even anxiety disorders in reaction to your environment like during periods of stress or adversity, life transitions (both negative and positive), losses, major life events, etc. Once anxiety has started you may experience a very strong urge to avoid situations, people, sensations, and/or memories associated with the anxiety (see Anxiety & Avoidance). Unfortunately avoidance only works in the short term—you may feel relief when you avoid, but you keep the whole cycle going by not learning to confront the sources of the fear directly. Every time you avoid due to anxiety, your world shrinks a little. Over time this avoidance can lead to other problems including social isolation and depression (see Depression Facts)!

How do I get over anxiety?

The best way to overcome anxiety is to learn to confront your fears and examine the factors that lead up to the anxiety. If you have had abuse or trauma this needs to be addressed as well. Anxiety recovery means learning to face things and to stop avoiding. The most powerful lasting changes occur with certain forms of psychotherapy.  Medication can sometimes be used temporarily, but long term use can cause side effects and reinforce the tendency to avoid, thereby never really addressing the true causes of your anxiety. If you need help, you should feel free to contact me directly! I have developed an effective, innovative approach that integrates the most powerful approaches to help you overcome your anxiety.

What Are the Main Causes of Anxiety Attacks?

The anticipation of a threat, which could either be real or imaginative, often results in anxiety and ultimate an attack. Whenever you are in a state of anxiety, your body undergoes numerous biological changes which are different from normal bodily functions. Let us now discuss a few of the causes of anxiety attacks:

What Are The Main Causes?

1. Hereditary

Individuals who have a family history of anxiety related disorders often suffer from this problem. While anxiety disorders run in families, even twins are not spared of its wrath. Statistical data reveals that almost 88% of all twins born in such families suffer from anxiety related disorders.

2. Biological Problems

Certain biological problems such as post traumatic stress syndrome, Wilson's disease, hypoglycemia, mitral valve prolapse, obsessive compulsive disorders and deficiency of Vitamin B, may also lead to anxiety attacks.

3. The Case Of Phobias

People who are exposed to certain phobic objects or scenarios can also suffer from anxiety related disorders.

4. Short Term Causes

Short term triggers such as the sudden loss of a significant one, emotional attachment in a romantic relationship, drastic changes in life, excessive intake of caffeine and other stimulants such as nicotine can cause anxiety attacks on a random basis.

5. Negative Thoughts

If you are habitual of avoiding 'provoking situations' and indulge in 'anxious self talk', the chances are that you may suffer from anxiety related disorders. Likewise, mistaken beliefs as well as withheld emotions may also lead to anxiety.

6. A Pessimistic Attitude

Lack of assertiveness is also considered to be a major cause for an increase in the number of attacks related to anxiety. In case you have a passive style of communication, you automatically become un-assertive.

7. Side Effects Of Medicines

There are certain antibiotics which can trigger anxiety attacks. Two well known medicines which can trigger anxiety attacks are Ratalin and Fluoroquinolone.
