Antibiotics as a Cure for Stomach Ulcer

Stomach ulcer refers to open lesions and ulcerations at the level of the stomach. Statistics indicate that more than two percent of the people in the United States are diagnosed with stomach ulcer each year and it is estimated that around eight to ten percent of these people are at risk of developing various other forms of ulcer over the years. In the United States there are approximately half a million annual cases of stomach ulcer. The disorder has the highest incidence in the male gender, and it predominantly affects people with ages over 50.

Stomach ulcer is considered to be a serious disorder. In the absence of medical treatment, stomach ulcer can lead to complications such as stomach perforation and internal bleeding. There are many forms of treatment for stomach ulcer in present. However, the problem with most medications is that they only provide temporary symptomatic relief, allowing the disorder to reoccur soon after completing the prescribed medical treatment.

Stomach ulcer is a digestive disorder that occurs due to physiological abnormalities (poor stomach production of bicarbonate, poor integrity of the stomach’s mucosal protective cover, inappropriate mucosal blood flow, overproduction of pepsin and gastric acid) and infection with bacteria called Helicobacter pylori. Although these bacteria are known to be a major cause of stomach ulcer, most doctors neglect this aspect and only prescribe medications for normalizing the stomach’s production of digestive fluids. Although antacids and other medications commonly used in the treatment for stomach ulcer can keep the disorder under control, they can’t overcome the ulcer completely. Unless the treatment with antacids is followed on a regular basis, the symptoms of stomach ulcer are very likely to reoccur.

One of the most common medications used in the treatment for stomach ulcer is Tagamet. This ulcer drug acts by reducing the levels of gastric acid and pepsin inside the stomach. The problem with Tagamet and other antacids is that they only provide short-term effects. Most people affected by stomach ulcer experience a relapse of the disorder soon after interrupting the treatment with Tagamet.

Since the underlying cause of stomach ulcer is infection with Helicobacter pylori, people with the disorder should also receive a medical treatment with antibiotics. Research results indicate that people with stomach ulcer who have been prescribed a course of antibiotics such as amoxicillin or penicillin have experienced a considerable amelioration of their ulcer. In addition, most people with stomach ulcer who have followed treatments with antibiotics have been permanently cured. Unlike antacids, antibiotics can provide long-term effects for people affected by stomach ulcer, thus minimizing the chances of relapse.

A two-week course of amoxicillin is usually sufficient for overcoming the infection with Helicobacter pylori. Corroborated with antacids, antibiotic treatments can successfully cure stomach ulcers, minimizing the chances of relapse.

What Colon Cancer Symptoms Are Found During Screening?

Colon cancer is a disease characterized by the uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in the colon and the formation of tumors from these cells. Despite the presence of polyps in the human large intestine, presentation of colon cancer symptoms at an early stage is very low. In some cases, it may not even manifest symptoms. Today, colon cancer is the second leading malignancy in the United States and the fourth worldwide. The combination of these facts gives rise to the importance of colon screening methods aimed at determining early stages of colon cancer.

There are a number of screening methods available for colon cancer detection. These tests are done alone or in combination with other tests in order to distinguish colon cancer from other intestinal diseases. Hereunder is a list of these screening and detection procedures.

Digital Rectal Examination

A routine part of physical examination, digital rectal examination (DRE) examines the lower portion of the rectum for tumor and polyp growth. This test is done using a lubricated gloved finger inserted inside the rectum to feel for anomalous growths. This test is also capable in ascertaining prostate cancer in men.

Fecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT)

The American Cancer Society recommends FOBT to be done yearly in combination with sigmoidoscopy. FOBT is statistically noted as being 24% effective in finding colorectal cancer by itself. There are currently two types of fecal occult blood test, these are the Guaiac FOBT and the Immunochemical FOBT. The Guaiac FOBT utilizes the chemical, guaiac, to detect the presence blood protein hemoglobin in fecal samples by checking for traces of Heme. Heme is an iron-containing component of hemoglobin. Immunochemical FOBT uses antibodies to check stools for human hemoglobin. According to studies, FOBT when performed annually reduces colorectal deaths by about 15 – 35%.

Sigmoidoscopy is a test wherein a lighted instrument, the sigmoidoscope, is inserted into the rectum and lower colon to examine the area. Precancerous, cancerous and other abnormal growths can be detected during this test, and these growths can be removed and biopsied. Statistics show that when done in conjunction with FOBT, the sigmoidoscopy helps in detecting about 76% of colon tumor growths among individuals in the 50s-80s age range.

A colonoscope is a lighted instrument used to examine the colon and rectal area for abnormal growths. During a colonoscopy, abnormal polyps or growths can be traced, removed and biopsied. Colonoscopy can examine areas missed by a sigmoidoscope mainly due to its longer reach. Before colonscopy is performed a thorough cleansing of the colon is carried out and patients are sedated.

Double Contract Barium Enema (DCBE)

In DCBE, air is introduced into the colon and the patient is given an enema filled with barium solution to help outline the colon for an array of x-rays. In conjunction with colonoscopy, DCBE helps in detecting about 30-50 percent of colorectal cancer cases. However, DCBE may miss smaller polyps according to research.

Computerized Tomographic Colonoscopy

As called Virtual Colonoscopy, the test is accomplished with the use of a special x-ray equipment to generate photographs of the colon and rectum at different angles. These photographs are then assembled by a computer to produces an image detailing the large intestine and showing polyp growth and other abnormalities. Like standard colonoscopy, it is necessary to perform a thorough cleansing of the colon. However, since this test is less invasive, it is less discomforting and does not require sedation.

Despite the presence of these tests, it was reported that about 44% of adults within the 50s-80s age group have undergone routine screening raising colorectal cancer incidence. Let us not be afraid to undergo cancer screening, we must realize that early detection is tantamount to survival from cancer.

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

It is important that women are aware of how their breasts feel normally, so they will notice any breast cancer symptoms at an early stage, when treatment often has a better outcome. Men, too, should be on the alert for any changes in their breast tissue. Breast cancer can be present for years without causing any symptoms. The first sign that something is wrong for most women is when they find a lump in the breast or the nearby armpit.

The breast cancer symptoms could be any of the following –

  • A lump or thickening in or near the breast – Not all lumps in or near the breast are due to breast cancer. Some of the lumps may be due to hormonal changes. If the lumps persist, then evaluation should be done to rule out cancer of the breast. Lump in the breast is the commonest breast cancer symptom.
  • A lump or swelling under the arm – A lump or swelling in the armpit indicates enlargement of lymph node which is an important symptom of cancer of the breast. Lymph node enlargement could be due to many reasons including cancer. Persistent lump needs evaluation.
  • Changes in the size or shape of the breast, especially those caused by arm movements or by lifting the breasts – These changes indicate that the breast tissue is enlarged. These may be normal due to hormonal changes. If they are due to hormonal changes, they will be cyclical. If the size does not fluctuate and if it keeps increasing in size and changing in shape, then breast cancer has to be ruled out.
  • Dimpling or puckering of the skin of the breast – Dimpling or puckering of skin is due to involvement of the skin by the cancer tissue. The external appearance would be like the skin of an orange (peau d'orange).
  • Changes in the look or feel of the skin of the breast, the nipple or the area around the nipple
  • Bleeding or discharge from the nipple – Bleeding from the nipple is always abnormal and has to be investigated adequately to rule out breast cancer. Bleeding is an important symptom. Discharge other than blood from the nipple may or may not be normal. If the discharge is from one breast only, if it is a new discharge, then it is not normal and have to be investigated.
  • The nipple turns in and becomes inverted or points differently
  • Discomfort or pain in the breast, particularly if new and persistent – Pain in the breast may occur due to hormonal changes during menstrual cycle. It occurs in both the breasts and it is normal. If the pain does not follow the menstrual cycle and if it is new or persistent or occurs in one breast only, it is considered abnormal. Breast pain is one of the important symptoms that should not be ignored.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Long Term Care Insurance

Should You Buy Long Term Care Insurance?

Most people start thinking about the possibility of needing nursing care asf they hit middle age. Many have family or family who needed home health care, assisted living, or a nursing home. At this time, people learn about the high cost of long term care, and they wonder how it gets paid for.

Consider this. Full time nursing homes can cost $50,000 a year or more. Home health care may not be that much less, depending upon the amount of services needed. Assisted living facilities cost less, but may still be a lot more than it costs to live on your own. And the government estimates that 40% of people who turn 65 will need some sort of nursing care during retirement years.

How does this get paid for? Medicare, the federal health insurance for seniors and disabled people, only pays for short term care. Medicaid does pay for nursing homes, and in fact pays for half of all of thee costs in the US. But in order to qualify for Medicaid, a person has to deplete most of their assets.

So some people purchase a long term care insurance (LTCi) policy because they want to protect their savings in case they need to go to a nursing home. There are also alternative ways to plan for this which other choose. And many people have not done any planning at all.

Disadvantages of Long Term Care Insurance

Who do some people choose LTCi alternatives? Why do many people do nothing? Look at some things that they may consider.

Insurance exists to manage risks. When you purchase an auto insurance policy, you hope you will not have to use it. With most LTC policies, it is the same. You could pay premiums for years, never need it, and get nothing out of your policy except the security of knowing you have it. Some LTC policies may have a return of premium feature but it is not common.

LTCi policies are complicated, and there are many different types. Some are more useful and flexible than others. So some types of coverage may not help you for the particular situation you are in. For instance, you may have purchased a policy that only covers a nursing home. But an illness may only require adult day care or home health care. Again, some policies will cover different types of care so you, or your family, can make a choice when the time comes.

Premiums are lower for younger and healthier people, but can go up over time. If you cannot afford to pay premiums when you get older, it will not do you any good if you have to discontinue coverage. You have to make sure that you can afford the policy.

Advantages of Long Term Care Insurance

Of course, a lot of people do think LTCi is a great choice to make sure they have protected their assets.. And some features may even help them before they ever need to use it.

Some policies are tax deductible. Tax qualified plans can be deducted when you file taxes now. This makes the real cost of premiums lower than the price a company charges.

Assets are protected. If you want to preserve a lifetime of savings for yourself, your spouse, or your heirs, long term care is one obvious way to do this. With the right policy, you will not be forced to spend down your entire estate before you qualify for Medicaid.

You will have choices. Not every nursing facility or provider accepts Medicaid. You will be able to choose your private nursing home, assisted living facility, or home health care provider without worrying if they accept Medicaid payments. Some policies even offset the cost of care that is provided by family members.

How to Shop For Long Term Care Policies

It is important to understand how various policies work, how much they will cost, and which one will be the best plan for you. An experienced insurance agent can help you. You can also start looking by using a convenient online long term care insurance quote form. This will allow you to see competitive policies that are sold in your own local area.

How to Treat Thrush Naturally

Treating thrush naturally is something that you should only worry about once you have figured out why it is that you have it in the first place. While yeast infection of the mouth-is common in newborn babies, it is not something seen in healthy adults. Thrush in an adult is usually seen only in people whose immune systems have been severely compromised due to a serious illness like HIV / AIDS or something like chemotherapy. If you are an adult with this mouth disease, then it's crucial to see a doctor to find the underlying cause for the infection.

Now, let's get on to how to treat thrush naturally. Since thrush affects the mouth, tongue and throat, it's not just a matter of getting out to a store and purchasing a cream. The more natural the treatment is the better because it is after all, going into your mouth. One of the best proven remedies for treating any type of a yeast infection is yogurt which contains active cultures.

Since the active cultures in yogurt are known to kill off yeast, all it really takes is consuming the yogurt regularly to get that good bacteria into your system making you better able to fight off the overgrowth of yeast in your body and, you can get relief from the actual symptoms of this disease by taking a spoon of chilled yogurt and holding it in your mouth for a quick soothing effect that will also work to kill the yeast in your mouth. Simply repeat this a few times a day as needed and keep at it until the infection has disappeared.

Since thrush attacks adults with a weakened immune system, simply knowing how to treat thrush naturally is not enough. You need to make a few lifestyle changes to try to build your immune system back up to a healthy level. These changes include a proper diet and nutrition, regular exercise and cutting out smoking and drinking.

Information on Indigestion and Causes

Indigestion, also known as upset stomach or dyspepsia, is discomfort or a burning feeling in the upper abdomen, often accompanied by nausea, abdominal bloating, belching, and sometimes vomiting. Some people also use the term indigestion to describe the symptom of heartburn.

Indigestion is not a distinct condition, but it may be a sign of an underlying intestinal disorder such as peptic ulcer, gallbladder disease or chronic appendicitis. Indigestion, also known as upset stomach or dyspepsia, is a painful or burning feeling in the upper abdomen.

You might get indigestion from eating too much or too fast, eating high-fat foods or eating when you’re stressed. Smoking, drinking too much alcohol, using some medicines, being tired and having ongoing stress can also cause indigestion or make it worse. Sometimes the cause is a problem with the digestive tract, like an ulcer or gerd.

Indigestion, also known as dyspepsia, is a painful or burning feeling in the upper abdomen and is usually accompanied by nausea, bloating or gas, a feeling of fullness, and, sometimes, vomiting. While indigestion may be the result of a disease or an ulcer in the digestive tract, most often it is the result of eating too much, eating too quickly, eating high-fat foods, or eating during stressful situations.

Indigestion is very common and most people have it from time to time. For some people it’s very mild and doesn’t happen very often perhaps only after a large meal or particularly rich food. For others, it can be very painful, and sometimes feels as if you are having a heart attack.

Indigestion (say: in-dih-jest-shun) is just another name for an upset stomach. (It’s also called dyspepsia (say: dis-pep-see-ah.) Indigestion usually happens when people eat too much, too fast, or foods that don’t “agree” with them. It’s fair to say that big cheesesteak sandwich didn’t agree with Brandon!

Indigestion is the most often pronounced ailment of modern times branching out into varied abdominal diseases. The most common one would be Gastritis. To research into the symptoms of this ailment would be acid reflux or heartburn, pain in the abdomen, excessive burping, puking or vomiting, nausea and difficulty in releasing gas.

Heartburn. When stomach acid backs up into the esophagus — known as acid reflux — you may experience heartburn. This burning pain in the upper abdomen and under the breastbone may be accompanied by nausea and an acid or sour taste in your mouth.

Peptic ulcers. Peptic ulcers are open sores that develop on the lining of the stomach, upper small intestine or esophagus. They may cause burning pain anywhere from your navel to your breastbone. Many peptic ulcers are caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Others are caused by regular use of certain pain relievers, such as aspirin, naproxen (Aleve) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, others).

People of all ages and of both sexes are affected by indigestion. It’s extremely common. An individual’s risk increases with excess alcohol consumption, use of drugs that may irritate the stomach (such as aspirin), other conditions where there is an abnormality in the digestive tract such as an ulcer and emotional problems such as anxiety or depression.

Acute Viral Hepatitis: Causes, Clinical Picture, Complications and Treatment

Acute viral hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver parenchyma for less than 6 months caused by viruses.

Causes of acute viral hepatitis:

  • Hepatotropic viruses: which includes virus A, B, non A non B (C, E) and Delta agent when it is combined with B virus.
  • Non hepatotropic viruses: as Epstein Barr virus (EBV), Herpes simplex and cytomegallo virus (CMV).

Clinical picture of Hepatotropic viral hepatitis (A, B, C, E, Delta + B):

It could be one of two types; Non icteric hepatitis or icteric hepatitis as follows:

  1. Non icteric hepatitis: it is a mild form of hepatitis, even it may pass unnoticed, clinically there is a mild Flu-like illness with anorexia (the patient doesn’t even like the smell of food and if he was a smoker he wouldn’t tolerate the ciggartes smell), Fate: Resolution or it could develop chronic hepatitis.
  2. Icteric hepatitis: has 3 phases (pre-icteric, icteric and post icteric)
    • Pre-icteric phase symptoms (about 1 week): Fever, Headache, malaise with marked anorexia and distaste for cigarettes and pain right hypochondrium (anatomical site of the liver)
    • Icteric phase (2-4 weeks): there is some improvement of fever, malaise and headache but Jaundice appears (jaundice: Yellowish discoloration of the skin and mucous membrane), with jaundice there is dark urine and clay stool.
    • Post-icteric phase (convalescence): there is improvement of general condition gradually but jaundice persists for some time, then after about 3-6 months the patient become in a normal condition.

  • chronic hepatitis specially with hepatitis C.
  • liver cirrhosis (loss of hepatic pattern with portal hypertension).
  • Fulmination which develops rapidly into liver cell failure and hepatic encephalopathy (specially with hepatitis E infection during pregnancy).
  • prolonged cholestasis (prolonged jaundice).
  • relapse could occur.
  • post hepatitis syndrome which is psychogenic.
  • Hepatoma (cancer of liver).
  • Aplastic anemia, purpura.
  • urticaria, arthritis and pancreatitis.
  • glumerulonephritis.
  • vasculitis.
  • ployneuropathy.

the last 5 points of complications are rare except with hepatitis B and C.

Treatment: (non specific treatment)

  1. Rest: it is advisable, but strict confinement to bed is not necessary, rest until the patient becomes clinically normal.
  2. Diet: high carbohydrate diet, low fat diet and no restrictions for proteins except with fulminant hepatitis.
  3. steroids are contraindicated as it have no benefit and may lead to exacerbation.
  4. vitamins.
  5. antiemetics.
  6. immunoprophylaxis: vaccines and immunoglobulins.

No need for interferon therapy in Acute viral Hepatitis as it is a simple disease that can be cured by immune system, Interferon has been used in some acute cases of hepatitis C with some success.

How to Cure Liver Disease Permanently and Naturally

If you, or anyone you know has been diagnosed with Liver Disease, first it’s important to know that can be healed and what the liver is responsible for. The liver is the only organ in your body that can regenerate itself.

Our Livers are responsible for:

• Digesting Food

• Eliminating Toxins, Chemicals, Heavy Metals, and Pollution in the Blood.

• Lowers Cholesterol and Brings it to Healthy Levels

• Heats our Bodies

• Burns and Regulates Excess Fat

• Regulates Carbohydrate and Protein Metabolism

• Digests All Sensory Input

• Regulates Blood Sugar Levels

• Regulates all Glands

• Stores the fat soluble vitamins, such as A, D, E, and K; assimilates calcium, and converts beta-carotene to vitamin A

Knowledge and understanding is the first and foremost step to curing any disease.

Second, you need to begin researching on what causes the liver to become diseased and then begin investigating the cause.

What Causes Liver Disease

There are many different factors on what pollutes the liver, and the truth it can be almost impossible to get away from it all in today’s society. But there are a few things you can do that will make a huge difference in healing your liver.

Here’s a few examples:

• Eating only processed foods, white flour and sugar, saturated fats, carbohydrates, and pure junk food

• Overeating

• Foods Containing Pesticides, Preservatives, Artificial Colors, Sweeteners, MSG, Aspartame, and Corn Syrup

• Excessive Use of Alcohol, Drugs, Tobacco, and other Pharmaceutical Drugs

• Pollution In The Air and Home

• Constant Sensory Input Overload

Curing Liver Disease

A lot of these can easily be limited if you begin to become aware and want to heal. You need to start thinking about what kinds of foods you’re eating on a regular basis. Are they mostly junk foods? Or healthy foods such as green vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, etc..?

If you’re eating mostly junk, processed foods such as stated above, there’s a few things you can eliminate that will make a huge difference. The main culprits would be soda, meats, and fast food. All of these contain dangerous amounts of chemicals and toxins that just simply overload your liver when it tries to digest them.

Do you ever exercise?

Do you spend most of your free time in front of the TV?

TV’s and other electronic devices are extremely hard on the liver because your liver not only digests foods, but also all sensory input. So if you’re watching anything violent on television, that negative energy is going through your liver. Why not spend time in nature sitting next to a river or under a tree?

Next, you’ll need to find yourself a high quality liver cleanse. Doing a cleanse is very simple and will flush out all the toxins and chemicals in your liver and give it a fresh start.

This is critical, and you don’t need prescription drugs either. Do a liver cleanse and drink 8-10 glasses of water everyday. After, continue eating healthier and exercising.

I must also say I’m not a doctor or qualified professional, everything stated above is from my own experience and has helped myself, and many others in curing diseases naturally and safely.

Histoplasmosis is caused by H.capsulatum, which is found in the stool of birds and bats and in soil contaminated by their stool, such as that near roosts, chicken coops, barns, caves, and underneath bridges. Transmission occurs through inhalation of H. capsulatumor H. capsulatum var.duboisii spores or through the invasion of spores after minor skin trauma. Signs and Symptoms Many otherwise healthy people show no symptoms of infection at all. When symptoms do occur, they appear 3-17 days after exposure (average time is 10 days). The symptoms are usually mild and resemble those of a cold or flu; fever , dry cough , enlarged lymph glands, tiredness, and a general feeling of ill health. A small number of people develop bronchopneumonia. About 95% of people who are infected either experience no symptoms or have symptoms that clear up spontaneously. These people then have partial immunity to re-infection. Diagnostic tests The diagnosis of histoplasmosis depends on the underlying condition. Tests may include analysis of the organism in sputum, lung tissue, blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), or bone marrow tissue, as well as antigen tests performed on blood, urine, or CSF. In addition, certain pathologic findings may be seen in tissue which may support the diagnosis of histoplasmosis. Treatment Treatment includes anti-fungal therapy, surgery, and supportive care. Antifungal therapy plays the most important role.”diagnosis: a preface to an autopsy”
“To confess ignorance is often wiser than to beat about the bush with a hypothetical diagnosis.”
“Being a reporter is as much a diagnosis as a job description” Except for asymptomatic primary acute histoplasmosis (which resolves spontaneously) and the African form, histoplasmosis requires high-dose or long-term (10week) therapy with amphotericin B or ketoconazole. Surgery includes lung resection to remove pulmonary nodules, a shunt for increased intracranial pressure, and cardiac repair for constrictive pericarditis. Supportive care includes oxygen for respiratory distress, glucocorticoids for adrenal insufficiency, and parenteral fluids for dysphagia caused by oral or laryngeal ulcerations. Histoplasmosis doesn’t necessitate isolation. Prevention Prevention of histoplasmosis relies on avoiding exposure to dust in a contaminated environment. Before anyone cleans chicken coops or other contaminated soil, spraying with water is advisable to reduce dust. Persons working in contaminated areas should use protective clothing such as gloves and coveralls. They should also use a respirator equipped with a high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter that is capable of filtering particles down to two microns in size. For major clean up operations of prolonged exposure, a powered air purifying or supplied air respirator may be necessary.

White Spots on Throat – Home Remedies For White Spots & Tonsil Stones

Many people suffer with the problem of white spots on the throat. For the first time they make you really anxious. But becoming panicky would not solve any issues. You must understand how these spots are caused and how can you cure them. Medically speaking, these are a harmless accumulation of the bacteria that is sulfur-based along with some debris. They get accumulated near the tonsils, so they are also known as tonsil stones. These white patches usually occur round the back of your mouth, on the tongue, and also the pockets of your tonsils. They are easily visible with naked eye. They show up like a lump inside the throat. It is more like an object protruding from the rear side of the mouth.

The patients say that they feel irritation of these spots and they are painful as well. The other symptoms that occur with this ailment include cough, bad breath, ear aches, excess of phlegm in the throat, and in difficulty swallowing. While there are some medical treatments for this issue, it is always more advisable to take some natural products for the cure. There are several home remedies that can help you get rid of white spots of the throat.

Some of these are as follows:

* In the initial stages you can just remove them by gently brushing them away.

* If they occur on the tongue, you can try scraping them off using a toothbrush. This technique also helps in removing these spots from the back of your mouth from them.

* Another simple yet very effective tip is to do the gargles with warm salt water.

* You may also choose to gargle with warm water that also comprises of hints of powdered pepper & turmeric.

However, in some cases where the stone has got a bit firmer & over-sized, you must check with the doctor, as you might need to get it removed surgically. This is especially important when the stone is formed in a place that is hard to reach.

Are There Alternatives To Antiviral Herpes Medications That Can Effectively Treat Outbreaks?

More and more herpes sufferers are seeking alternatives to Valtrex and other herpes medications to avoid the many potential side effects or avoid the high cost of daily therapy. Fortunately, there are natural treatment options that can be very effective in reducing the length and severity of outbreaks.

Valtrex is the brand name for a prescription drug called valacyclovir HCl used to treat genital and oral herpes, as well as shingles (herpes zoster). Some people take the medication every single day as part of a daily therapy regimen, which is said to reduce the number of outbreaks and the risk of spreading herpes. Others take Valtrex when breakouts occur for a period of a few days until symptoms disappear.

Non-prescription Valtrex alternatives do exist and can be effective in treating the symptoms of herpes, and many people choose OTC products to avoid adverse reactions from anti-viral medications. Some of the common side effects of valacyclovir are nausea, headaches. vomiting, dizziness and abdominal pain. Other side effects can include hypertension, allergic reactions, seizures, mania, renal failure, visual abnormalities and liver problems.

Most natural alternatives to Valtrex have few to no side effects to contend with, as they consist of anti-viral herbal extracts that are generally regarded as safe by the FDA. These herbs are usually combined in a topical ointment that can be applied to the area of a herpes breakout. Usually, the symptoms disappear in a short amount of time.

It’s important to know that there is no cure for herpes at the present time. Anti-viral medications and Valtrex alternatives are just treatment options that can help manage the condition so that outbreaks are not as severe as they would be without treatment. Valtrex does not work for everyone, and is not recommended for the elderly, the infirm or people with kidney problems. Daily therapy can be costly as well, and most prescription medications cause one side effect or another.

That’s why alternatives to Valtrex might be a better, safer option for you. If you have genital or oral herpes talk to your doctor and see if a natural Valtrex alternative makes sense for you. You might find that you can treat outbreaks without having to take oral medications.

Feet Swelling During Pregnancy

Being pregnant is usually a wonderful experience, but it can make life a little uncomfortable at times. Many women suffer from foot and leg problems during pregnancy but the good news is there are things you can do to prevent or relieve them. The two most common foot problems during pregnancy are over-pronation (flat feet) and edema (swelling). Leg cramps are also a common experience during the second trimester.

Swelling of the feet generally starts becoming apparent during the fifth month of the pregnancy, though this time limit can vary from one woman to another. It occurs due to the accumulation of fluids in the feet of the woman. Swelling of the feet can be painful to some women, due to which they may not be able to move about or do their normal work as the months pass on.

1.    Soaking your feet in lukewarm water followed by a gentle massage using cream or lotion is very helpful relief for foot pain or swelling feet.

2.    Lavender bubble baths and foot massage -It has a wonderful ingredient for your feet.

3.    Whenever possible, elevate your legs during the course of the day and most definitely at night. Every night you are reminded of the fluid you are retaining during the day and may not even be aware of this. Have you ever noticed how often you find yourself getting up to the bathroom (voiding) in the middle of the night? This is because the fluid in your legs is being mobilized back into your blood stream and eliminated through your kidneys. While you are lying down/sleeping, your legs are at the level of your heart and gravity is not working against you..

4.    Stretching and foot exercise is very effective home remedies for it. There are some good foot exercises and stretching that you can do as a relief for foot pain.

5.    Don’t walk around barefoot: Wear a supportive shoe, one that has a rigid sole and bends only where the foot bends (at the toes). If a shoe seems too confined, find a slipper which has a semi-rigid sole, or try a clog or slip-in shoe with a more rigid sole. The remaining aspect of the shoe can be soft and flexible and allow for swelling, but the sole should be rigid from the heel to the ball of the foot.

6.    . A person with this foot condition will find that their feet roll inwards while walking – which leads to all sorts of biomechanical effects such as ankle, knee and hip pain. All the joints in your leg work together to function in gait and balance and improper movement at the ankle will lead to the inappropriate delivery of forces up the leg and cause all sorts of problems.

7.    As one can see, pregnancy can have an effect on other areas of the body beyond the womb. Most are temporary and minor, with symptoms resolving shortly after delivery. However, certain kinds of swelling and any significant foot and leg pain needs to be reported to one’s obstetrician, and may require a foot care specialist for full treatment.

Coconut Oil – Nature’s Powerful Anti-bacterial

Food poisoning. Flu. Throat infections. Urinary tract infections. The root cause of these (and many more) illnesses is bacteria. For something like the flu or food poisoning, you usually just have to ride it out. Miserably. For the others, there are antibiotics. The problem with those are, they also kill good bacteria. The good bacteria that is responsible for helping us to digest our nutrients, giving us a feeling of general well-being. Not something that I personally want killed. How about you?

As a result, yeast (such as Candida) tends to grow unrestrained, since it is not affected by antibiotics. Isn’t there a better way? It just so happens there is!This is where virgin coconut oil comes in. The fatty acids in this magical oil are powerful fighters of bacteria! They are known to kill bacteria that causes many illnesses. Viruses are very hard to kill, because they are what you call ‘supergerms’. Antiviral drugs can reduce the severity of these types of infections, but they cannot eliminate them.

With coconut oil, the fatty acids destroy the bacteria causing the illness, safely and naturally, while leaving the good bacteria intact. If you feel you’re coming down with something, take one tablespoon of virgin coconut oil, then repeat every few hours until you feel better. This sounds too good to be true, but I have personally tried this method, and now I’m a believer. You just have to try it! An even better method is to take two to three tablespoons per day in order to prevent these things. It’s also just an overall great way to boost your general health. There are so many great health benefits and so many uses for coconut oil. Give it a try, I’m sure you’ll love the results as much as I do!

Wound Healing: Bed Sores, Lesions, Pressure Sores, Ulcers – Treatment Intuition & Energy Healing

Bed sores, lesions, pressure sores, chronic wounds, ulcers and abscesses are nasty looking, a real problem to deal with, and at times quite painful for their owner. Wound management is a traditional medical specialty unto itself. Integrative healing (CAM) modalities and techniques are now being researched in clinical trials to assist and amplify traditional care.

There are many reasons for non-healing wounds, some are the result of medical conditions. Many diabetics fear and eventually undergo surgical amputation. Bed ridden patients in nursing home or assisted living facilities develop bed sores that can facilitate their demise. Paraplegics and quadriplegics develop localized pressure sores that can instigate life-threatening infections. Situations that impede circulation such as complications following surgery, congestive heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, peripheral ulcers, vascular disease, and traumatic injury help cause wounds. Additionally edema, systemic problems and infection impair normal healing. Most wound programs combine traditional medical and surgical care in addition to advanced wound care technologies including but not limited to dressing materials of bioengineered tissue and hyperbaric medicine. Alternative and integrative medicine processes and treatments offer a different approach.

While initially evaluating a wound, as a medical intuitive and “human MRI”, I look at the 360 degree view of the traumatized area. Failing to “see” the entire wound and all contributing factors can sabotage healing. Assess the physical body’s systems and the energy systems that contribute to the current wound. Start your intuitive examination from the inner core and work your way out to the surface area of the open wound. Example- Start with the molecular structure of each cell, then the cellular clusters, and finally tissue groups. Next evaluate the infection and blood counts, the blood supply to the deteriorated area, and the blood’s oxygen delivery to that wound. Investigate the functions the wounded area contributes to the body and the body’s entire immune system, and the immune systems response to the wound area.

Last but not least, evaluate the client’s mental, emotional and spiritual states that affect and effect the entire body. Also address and correct the environmental factors such as lack of individual care or attention. Remove medications that hinder healing. Check with your physician about the interactions of various prescriptions. Clients that smoke should be required to stop during wound rehabilitation.

To begin healing the wound, as an integrative medical specialist, I use distant energy healing in addition to and during the physician’s treatment and procedures to reorganize the molecular structure of each damaged cell. First I direct electromagnetic energy to the molecules of the cells. This stimulates the cells to restructure themselves and to regenerate healthy new cells. This concept is called

returning to the original healthy cellular blueprint. One of the originator’s of this concept was Dr. RObert Becker in his book “The Body Electric”. He also established the fact that when stimulated with electromagnetic energy, a cell would regenerate.

Then the blood cells must be directed to remove toxins and to reestablish healthy blood counts. This process will eventually remove infection in the wound.

Repairing the damaged vascular system is next. The broken vessels must be sealed to prevent excess bleeding, weepage and further contamination and infection. Once accomplished, a healthy blood flow must be established to nourish and support regenerating cells and to implement oxygenation to the area.

Since inadequate oxygen supply to the damaged tissue impedes healing, focus the energy on raising the oxygen levels of the client. This will support the repairing cells and help develop and rebuild a healthy tissue network. In traditional medicine, hyperbaric oxygen therapy is one of the newest technologies to aid wound care. This therapy increases the level of oxygen delivered to the tissues and augments wound-healing repair.

For the immune system to stabilize and contribute to health, direct the energy healing to amplify the immune system’s work on the entire body and on the wound area, two separate issues.

Now that you have built a healthy foundation in the core of the wound, work on the tissue areas and the outer edges of the wound in increments. This reduces the size of the open wound, adds healthy supportive periphery tissue around the traumatized and damaged area, and provides clinical evidence that the wound is reducing. You do not want to knit together and seal over a wound that is not healed at its base, that mistake could exacerbate further deterioration.

It’s best to approach wound healing in an organized fashion; system-by-system, inch by healed inch, from the inner core to the outside. Trying to heal the entire wound all at once puts too much stress on the body’s energy system and the cellular recalibration, and usually misses important ingredients in the entire healing recipe. It is also important to work intermittently on the wound, so the body will not be overstressed, and each system can reestablish itself independent of the others. This plan will manifest a stronger and more rapid healing response, have less periodic reversals, and maintain the integretity of the healed area.

Although addressing physical problems is a major concern, I believe involving patients in their treatment with positive mind over matter actions, attitudes and affirmations is imperative. In deciding right now, this very minute, to address and make positive free will choices to change your mind’s attitude about your wound care, and to command your cells to assist in your healing, immediately helps facilitate the healing process. Patient contribution to their own care adds the mind over matter i.e. biofeedback dimension to the healing process and is crucial to long-term improvements. A favorite alternative medicine for your mind is the book “Positive Attitudes, Actions, and Affirmations for Overcoming Your Health Challenges”. The self-help section of your local bookstore has many helpful holistic mind body resources.

It has been proven that positive attitude creates a greater immune system response that in turn helps diminish symptoms. It stands to reason that premise should also hold true in wound management. It’s the old adage of YOUR mind over YOUR matter. Your cells are here to house your life force energy called your Soul. You are the commander of your cells, i.e. your body, and YOU are the superintendent of your building i.e. your body, so how you handle your maintenance is all part of the healing journey. Having a “can do” attitude directs your cellular structure to do just that, assist in healing itself.

Holistic health care is complementary to traditional medicine. Alternative medicine-medical intuition and distant healing integrates with and can be used during allopathic procedures and treatments. The combination of all types of healing modalities, technologies and whole body therapies gives the patient more healing options and a sense of participation and control over their healing, resulting in a better quality of life and sense of well being, thereby providing the most rewarding and effective healing journey.

Amlapitta and Ayurveda

It is common for many of us to face a burning sensation in stomach and chest at times. This is in most cases due to excessive secretion of acidic material in the stomach. This in medical terms referred as acidity or gastritis. In Ayurvedic terminology, this is referred as amlapitta, amla meas the super sour taste and Pitta is the Dosha. This means there is excessive secretion of Pitta Dosha (one of the three doshas) in the stomach.

There are several factors that lead to the acidity or amlapitta in the body like a poor or imbalanced diet, heavy smoking, weak immune system, stress etc. When there is acidity problem in the body, it is denoted by many symptoms like loss of appetite, burning sensation in chest, stomach, nausea, indigestion, abdominal bloating, etc.

Amlapitta Process

When the Pitta Dosha is disturbed from its normal state by taking viruddha bhojan (incompatible food), vikrita bhojan (stale food), ati amla (too much sour, spicy food), vidahi (decayed) and other food that is harmful to pitta dosha like fried, fermented food, smoking, alcohol etc, then the aggravated Pitta Dosha takes seat in stomach and produces Amlapitta or hyperacidity.

Ayurvedic Treatment

No matter how big or small the symptoms are, amlapitta should never be ignored because if not given proper treatment at the right time, it can lead to severe health problems. Luckily there are many remedies for acidity but the best remedy is using Ayurveda herbal remedy. The traditional Ayurveda medicines are used quite frequently for curing acidity. Ayurveda uses herbs like English mallow, Ginger, Meadowsweet, Chamomile, Amla (Indian Gooseberry), Licorice, etc. for treating gastritis or acidity. Apart from these Ayurveda herbal medicines, dietary restrictions, different home remedies, water treatments are also used for Amlapitta treatment. Nowadays in the market you will find a variety of Ayurvedic medicines made using these herbs but it is always better to consult a professional practitioner.
