Natural Treatment For Giardia

Giardia is a protozoal parasite found in lakes, streams, ditches and other outdoor water sources. The parasite is shed by wild animals high up in the watershed, and as the water travels down, it becomes even more contaminated by other animals living near it. Any dog or cat drinking from a pond, river, or other natural water source is likely to ingest the cysts of this persistent parasite. Once inside, the cysts hatch, grow, and reproduce. Giardia causes profuse, uncontrollable, often watery diarrhea, sometimes with blood and mucus associated with it.

The drugs most commonly used to treat Giardia are metronidazole, an antibiotic, and fenbendazole a dewormer. Each of them is about 70% effective; that is, they only work about 70% of the time. Because some parasites may be left alive, recurrent infections are possible even after treatment.

However, there is a natural protocol for getting rid of Giardia, that has been used many times successfully (and safely) in cats and dogs. We even cleared a cattery that had many infected kittens. It utilizes digestive enzymes on an empty stomach. With no food in the system, the digestive enzymes go to work on anything else that might be in the intestines – including parasites. It's been reported to work for Coccidia , and could also theoretically get rid of Toxoplasma, Cryptosporidia, Neosporum, Tritrichomonas foetus , and similar protozoal parasites.

First, you'll need a bottle of digestive enzymes (plant or fungi based) and one or more syringes; you can usually talk your vet into giving you a few 3 or 6 cc syringes (without needles). Do not get enzymes in combination with anything else such as probiotics or other supplements. It must be pure digestive enzymes alone. Make sure the product you select contains at least protease, amylase, and lipase (some also contain cellulase and other enzymes). These digest protein, starch, and fat, respectively. One product I have used is called Prozyme, which is available at many pet stores and online.

Note that the enzymes MUST be given on an empty stomach. If you leave food out for your pet 24/7, this protocol will NOT work. Food must be fed in meals, at least 30 (preferably 60) minutes after each dose of enzymes. If there is any food in the animal's digestive system, the enzymes will digest the food instead, and the parasites will flourish undisturbed. enzymes can not be hidden in a pill pocket or a piece of cheese – there can be no food in the tummy!

Take 1 capsule of enzymes for each animal to be treated, and mix with a tiny amount of water to make a slurry. Use the syringe to give the slurry by mouth. In most cases it's easiest to insert the syringe in the corner of the mouth between or behind teeth and squirt. The mixture does not taste that bad, but cats in particular are just not gracious about taking meds. Be careful, but be firm.

Round 1: Give a dose of digestive enzymes 1/2 to 1 hour before morning and evening meal, and a dose at bedtime. Take the syringe apart and rinse clean after each dose (otherwise the residue builds up and the plunger will stick). Repeat daily for 8 days.

Rest: Take a break for 1 week. This allows time for resistant cysts to "hatch."

Round 2: Repeat digestive enzyme treatment for 7 days.

And that's it! In my experience in 15 years as a veterinarian, this protocol has been a safer and more effective treatment than drugs.

Allergy Season And How To Use A Nebulizer To Ease Symptoms

Allergies are one of the most difficult things to live with and can be quite devastating for some. An allergy is defined by the medical community as an irrational response to environmental factors such as food or pollen. The most common allergy that affects millions of individuals is pollen and it is at its highest levels during the spring time season as the trees begin to regenerate their leaves. Although there is no cure for allergies there does exist ways of reducing the effects of its symptoms.

One of the ways is to actually utilize special medication in conjuction with a nebulizer in order to lessen the effects of the condition. A nebulizer is a health device that is made specifically to be used by allergy sufferers in order to deliver specialized medication. What the device does is that it takes the prescription medicine and transforms it into mist form which is then breathed in by the individual. The benefit of transforming it into mist form is the fact that it can actually be absorbed far more quickly by the body and as a result begin to reduce the symptoms faster.

A common example is that an individual that suffers from allergies can take their nebulizer device with them wherever they go. If you desire to go on a trip to Europe and you know that you have allergies then what you can do is plan to take your device with you along with the special medication that works for you on your trip. Whenever you feel that your symptoms are acting up then simply take out your portable device and then within minutes you are ready to take in the medication for relief.

The other beneficial aspect of the nebulizer system is the fact that it is completely portable. With the ability to take it with you wherever you go you can rest assured that you can have easy access to aid your health whenever you need to. The device actually comes with several different sizes of masks that can be used to help adults as well as children. Many children begin to develop allergy symptoms at a very young age and as a result it is important to begin early to help their condition. There is however different medication for children than there are for adults and as a result a physician needs to be consulted in order to prescribe the correct allergy prescription.

Anger Management and Self-Control

Where there is patience and humility, there is either anger nor vexation.
~ St. Francis of Assisi

All sorts of things can trigger irritability in people, minor traffic jams to major chairs. Everyone gets upset or annoyed sometimes. We all have lost our temper and reacted without thinking. We have succumbed to anger that drives us to say and do things we normally would not. And it is when we lose control over our thoughts and feelings, that our irritability and anger can do some major damage to our love walk.

For the most part, irritability is likely to occur when we feel under pressure. Therefore, one of the best tests for measuring our irritability is to observe how we will have when having to manage stressful circumstances or people. If we can remain graceful toward others when under pressure, then we are probably exercising self-control. Our temper is well-managed and good. We are not allowing agitation to anger us or disrupt our relationships. If, on the other hand, pressure and stress brings out the worst in us, then we probably need to work on our self-control and temper.

When irritable, we are very likely to become easily angered at others, sometimes at the slightest provocation. We might even become a hostile and behave in ways we will later regret. Gaining control over our thoughts, feelings and actions when irritated and angry is the best way to keep from acting out in unloving ways.

Self-control communicates love. It can be seen whenever we:

* Take responsibility for our actions
* Do not accuse or blame others for the way we feel
* Treat others graciously although they irritate us
* Keep from saying something hurtful and unnecessary
* Do not take our anger out on those around us
* Think things through before we react
* Allow ourselves a time-out to gather ourselves together
* Do not expect more from others than we should

The disposition of love is self-control and a good temper. Having self-control and a good temper is easier said than done, especially for those individuals who are more prone to irritability for various reasons. Even so, we can all learn to gain greater control over our tempers and how we react under pressure. Irritations will never cease, nor does our love need to when they come.

Is Depression Hereditary? A Question I Once Had to Ask Myself

When I asked myself is depression hereditary I had 3 theories before me to choose from.

1. Yes it was hereditary. It was “Nature”. It was in my genes.

2. No it was a result of the environment I grew up in. “Nurture”

3. Or it was a combination of both nature & nurture.

If I was to take on the first belief that would mean that depression was something out of my control. It was something I was born with. This would mean that I would be battling depression most of my life and at best all I could hope for was to somehow learn how to manage depression. I would have to believe that I was for some reason born on this planet a defective incomplete human being. Was I also supposed to believe that I had a chemical imbalance in my brain. That I had been born with an anti-depressant deficiency. This whole theory screamed helplessness to me.

The second option told me that my depression was due to my interaction with the environment. It came from the result of my life experiences and the meaning I placed upon those experiences. In short I was battling depression because of my thinking. Although the theory that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain is a very popular one there is an equally valid opposing theory that says the chemical imbalance is caused by the depression. In fact it may not be an imbalance at all. It may be just the body doing whatever it has too to survive under stressed conditions. This theory gave me hope. It told me that if I could learn how to change my thinking I could take charge of my emotions.

As for the third option well I am an all or nothing kind of guy. This option seemed too much like trying to hedge a bet to me. I had to choose either to believe I could take control of my life or choose to be a helpless casualty of life.

My decision was helped by having grown up with a family member “labeled” with a mental disorder. After over twenty years of first hand observation I had never seen any evidence that medications cured anything. What I did observe though is how powerfully a “label” can effect a persons beliefs about themselves, and how those beliefs can prevent a person from living an empowered and joyous life.

I have never ever regretted for one second the path I chose to follow. The belief that we can change the way we feel by changing the way we think has eventually led me to seeing the world in a whole new way. I now know without a doubt that my depression was not caused by any inherited defect. I was not born with an antidepressant deficiency. My depression was not caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Freedom from depression for me came about when I learnt to be the guardian and master of my thoughts.

At my consultancy I teach people to develop emotional intelligence. People learn that they and they alone are the creators of their every emotion. They learn the skills necessary to let go of the past and begin to let themselves follow their dreams.

So the answer to “Is depression hereditary” is an answer you must find within yourself. Remember that the answers given to you by the “Experts” are only theories. Do not allow your self to confuse the word cause with correlation. We are too lazy in our thinking and do not critically analyse enough the words that come out of the mouths of a perceived expert.

The statement “Studies have shown a link between depression and genetic factors” is showing correlation not cause. Correlation is the tendency for two values or variables to change together, in either the same or opposite way. The word tendency basically means most times but not always. If you were to carry 100 studies on the possible link between depression and genetics, you only need two to come back showing positive correlation for the above statement to be absolutely 100% true. The fact that the other 98 studies may have shown no correlation does not make the statement untrue in anyway. They only need 2 studies to come back in their favour because it allows them to use the plural of the word study in the sentence.

So choose your beliefs wisely. Do they mean a life of managing depression. A life of battling depression. Or do they mean a life of self empowerment.

14 Destructive Anxiety Disorders and Symptoms You Need To Know

Nearly everyone has experienced the feeling of being angry, nervous, afraid, worried, or panicky. The everyday term for this is anxiety; and it's perfectly normal to have this experience. However, it's the level and degree of how you handle it is what matters; and since anxiety can lead to anxiety attacks, and it's linked to many life-threatening conditions and phobias, education is critical.

There are 14 major anxiety disorders and symptoms you need to know about that can affect your life and loved ones in a negative, destructive way. For example, most small children are afraid of the dark. If this childhood condition is not addressed properly, it could lead to a possible phobia. There are millions of adults today who are afraid of the dark and can not sleep at night. They must wait until the sun rises before they can get any rest. However, if a child or even an adult is educated in this area and gain confidence, and realize that there's nothing to fear, the problem is solved.

Anxiety can be described in various ways. It has many faces. Webster's defines anxiety as distress or uneasiness of mind, caused by fear of danger or misfortune. Studies show that anxiety can also be an emotional response resulting from an overexposure to criticism, or judgment of others. Another source defines anxiety as a normal reaction to stress; it's that innate force that helps us deal with tense situations, at home and at work; it provides the mechanism to keep us focused when engaged in a competitive event, it even has the capability of providing us with the drive to study hard for an important exam.

The bottom line is that anxiety helps us to cope with the situation. But the six-hundred thousand dollar question is "Do you really want to only cope?" I think not, because when anxiety becomes excessive and life's everyday circumstances become not-so-everyday and begin to affect your mood, perception and ability to deal rationally with life's situations, then, it can become a serious disabling disorder.

Medical research has shown that anxiety is associated with hypertension, also referred to as High Blood Pressure, as well as many other diseases. You see, anxiety has many faces. Although it is linked to hypertension, it also serves to protect you from real danger, as well as stimulate growth and change. It's also a proven medical fact that some anxiety is normal. However, anxiety becomes absence when you constantly react to situations that do not pose a real threat.

Feelings of anxiety come in many forms, such as panic, fright, terror, alarm, anger, anguish, and dread, just to name a few. Physical complaints can include many things, such as dizziness, fatigue, racing heart rate, trembling, upset stomach, cold or clammy hands, rapid breathing, diarrhea, numbness, tingling, faultness, strain and flush.

Anxiety can strike like lightning, or roll like thunder. It can be marked by chronic worry and agitation. It can also be the natural fear that companies life's challenges and minor difficulties such as losing your job, wrecking your car, or becoming seriously ill. The feelings and physical sensations of anxiety are the same whether it occurs spontaneously, or in direct response to a major threat.

The feelings of anxiety are caused by an overreaction in the first stage of the body's stress response, commonly referred to as the alarm, the "fight or flight" reaction. Mild to moderate anxiety may be a bit more exaggerated and intense. However, there's nothing to be accused of if you suffer from these feelings of inappropriate fears or persistent worries, you are not alone. Do not fret, it could happen to anyone. The good news is that you do not have to suffer forever.

Here are some points of interest regarding anxiety you probably did not know:
• Anxiety in its various forms – fear, worry, muscle aches and pains, rapid shallow breathing, fatigue, heart palpitations, headaches – is one of the most common complaints heard by doctors. Anxiety can provoke or worsen alcoholism, overeating, irritable bowel syndrome, premenstrual syndrome, and many other medical problems.

• More than twice as many women suffer from anxiety as men. It is not known whether this is because women are more likely to be anxious, or because men are more likely to deny being afraid.

• Each year over 65 million Americans experience some symptom of anxiety of which thirty million have a full-blown disorder.

• One in every two people in the US will experience mild to moderate anxiety for at least a two-week period during their lifetime; one in four people will suffer from an anxiety disorder.

• According to a recent poll, over 25% of the US workforce suffers from anxiety and chronic stress.

• Despite the fact that more people will suffer from anxiety than any other mental health problem, less than 25% will receive adequate help. This means that some 18 million people will continue to suffer unnecessarily from a treatable and curable condition.

14. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: This type of person is plagued by upsetting memories of a traumatic event, such as death, violence, rape, serious injury or torture.

This list of anxiety disorders and symptoms was created by a committee of psychiatrists who get together from time to time and vote on the latest version of the diagnostic criteria. So, please be reminded that labeling these disorders does not place a person 100% in a particular disorder category. Many doctors feel that labeling the types of disorder is a bit arbitrary and confusing. In any case, this is the criterion that's used industry wide.

Research has shown that anxiety is linked to a myriad of mental as well as physical conditions, some of which can prove fatal. Also, studies have proved that some anxiety is normal; it serves to protect us from real danger, as well as stimulate growth and change. In order to keep anxiety from escalating into a full blown anxiety attack, activities such as regular exercise, yoga, golf, and meditation are among the things that can provide an excellent platform for a relaxed mind.

If you just took out a few minutes every morning, when you first wake up, and meditate peace and tranquility, as opposed to negative events that may not even occur, you will take on a new life full of optimism instead of anxiousness, uncertainty and fear.

At the National Stress and Anxiety Prevention Center (NSAPC), we promote total health – body, mind and spirit. While we focus on the mental aspects of relieving stress, anxiety and depression, we must not forget that nothing is impossible for God. Remember that anything you do outside of your regular routine challenges your brain.

When you create a world of peace and tranquility instead of one filled with fear and chaos, anxiety has no entry points. Remember anxiety and tranquility can not occupy the same space at the same time.

Are You Afraid to Fall Asleep?

Somniphobia – The fear of sleeping?

Now here is something one would not consider a topic of conversation for people looking for insomnia cures. After all, insomniacs are not afraid of sleep, we desperately crave it, yes?

Many people who suffer from a continual lack of sleep can develop some form of somniphobia, or the fear of sleeping. Perhaps we're not afraid of sleep in the traditional sense of the word somniphobia – but due to the dread and anxiety we know will come when it's time to sleep we can develop a fear of what will happen from our efforts. What we actually fear is the pain of anxiety and frustration from our insomnia.

What happens to most of us sleep challenged folk when it's time to turn off the lights and seek the restoration work of nature? Well, in some cases we immediately feel anxiety over the possibility of not falling asleep, and our minds race with the prescience of our inevitable coming agony. In this case we face a downward spiral of adding more and more stress to a time of day when relaxation is all we should be pursuing. Sometimes this can lead to a trigger for the other conditions responsible for us not sleeping, and in some cases this fear will become the principal trigger itself.

This condition is almost omnipresent in people who suffer chronic bouts of insomnia, fearless sleeplessness that is, but some of us have deer roots than others. It's not always a fear of sleeplessness, sometimes it actually is exactly as the word implies – a fear of sleep. Personally, under a great deal of scrutiny I came to discover that I have a distinct fear of falling unconscious from certain personal tragedies that occurred in my life that woke me from my slumber. This, in turn, led to a disturbing irrational and subconscious fear that if I slept bad things would happen to those I loved, and that it came to a point when sleep would not come until I was physically incapacitated of remaining awake. My record, as I think I've mentioned before, is 8 days with no sleep.

Others can develop this fear from the threat of past – very real dangers within their environment. One woman I studied had absolutely no capacity for sleep – due to her involvement in an earthquake years before, while she lived in Taipei, Taiwan. She lives in Ohio now, but none the less, her irrational association of sleeping coupled with a dangerous earthquake had left her completely unable to find rest. This kind of associative memory is a persistent problem, often manifesting in the form of anxiety disorder, and it requires require therapy and potentially medications, to deal with the underlying causes of irrational fear. But there are things we can do to try and help ourselves.

There are programs that I have tried and have studied, some that work wonders to help, and others you should try to avoid. Reviews for these systems can be found on my blog or by doing a proper Google search.

To find real insomnia cures we really have to become relentless in our pursuit, diligent, and we have to recognize that which robs us of what our bodies and minds need. So if you feel you may have developed some irrational fears about sleeping, think back to any time in your life when something may have disturbed you while you slept, sometimes something that left a lasting negative effect. If you find something, write it down, make a note of it, and prepare yourself to deal with this fear in your waking hours. If you can not think of any external memory that may be responsible for a fear of sleeplessness, perhaps you have developed a propensity to worry over your sleeplessness, then adding to your agony. In future articles I will delve into certain actions and lifestyle changes you can make to combat this problem.

Either way there may not be any magical insomnia cures, but learning about your fears and anxieties come sleep time can go a long way to allow you some peace of mind. Products and sleep optimization programs do help, but long term success is dependent on knowing the root causes of your insomnia.

Ways to Clean Up Dog Poop

OK students, welcome to Dogs 101. Class is in session, take out your note pads and pens and get ready to take notes. And no falling asleep in the back either, I am watching you! Can any of my wonderful pupils give me an answer to the question, "ways to pick up dog poo?" Yes it is a crappy question, but one that needs to be answered. "With a plastic dog bag" you say? Yes that is one way, Interesting fact about the plastic bag, did you know that by using a plastic bag to clean up your dog poo poo, you are also causing harmful bacteria to come in contact with both humans and our landfills by improperly disposing of the dogs feces in an ordinary trash can. And by the way, did you know it takes on average 1000 years for a plastic bag to degrade on its own?

Well actually the bag photo degrades meaning that the ultra violet rays of the sun cause the bag to break up and fragment into pieces. These pieces then are blown into the trees and our oceans and waterways where marine life and the birds can mistake them for food causing the animals to choke on them. Approximately 100,000 whales, turtles, penguins, and birds die each year due to plastic bags. That question will be asked as a bonus on your quiz by the way. Alright young lady, do you have an answer on a way to pick up your dogs poop? A pooper scooper you say, great answer. More convenient than a dog bag for sure. Yes, the dog poop scoop can be an alternative. This is a long handled device that scoops up the dog business without you ever having to come in contact with it. Again we have to bring up harmful, very dangerous bacteria by disposing of the dog poo poo in an ordinary receptacle. Escherichia coli for example! And that is nothing to scoff at, because E Coli can cause kidney damage and other health related issues. Come on class more answers on ways to clean up after dog? Cutting the grass? Yes that is another way. Anyone else? Hire someone eh? Another good answer. Oh students, I am proud of you and your participation in this lecture, you did do your homework. Did anyone bring the teacher an apple by the way?

Dog poop is a very serious problem. And it is not, I repeat not a lawn fertilizer like so many think. Your pet's feces is actually toxic to your grass. And dog waste contains fecal coliform bacteria, which is known to cause cramps, diarrhea, intestinal illness, and serious kidney disorders in human animals.

I see time is running short in class here, so we will get more into the toxicity of dog poo and how it relates to you individually next time. Take this knowledge that you now know and put it to good use.

Hair Loss in Squirrels

Squirrels lose hair for a variety of reasons. Many people assume that when they see a squirrel missing patches of hair, that it has contracted Mange. Mange in squirrels is caused by a tiny mite called Notoedres douglasi. They're similar to mites that cause scabies in humans in that they cause intense itching, but there's no report of squirrel mange ever being transmitted to humans! Healthy squirrels can usually recover from an infestation of mange, but it can take a reasonable amount of time, and a lack of hair covering can leave squirrels at the mercy of the weather especially in winter!

Another cause of hair loss in Squirrels is a fungal infection called dermatophytoses. The squirrel does not actually lose its hair, it's just that the fungus causes it to break off at the skin. Most fungus like warm, moist environment to grow, therefore dermatophytoses is seen in warm moist climates, and during unusually wet periods. A squirrel can recover from this fungal hair loss as long as it's immune system is in good shape. A sick or immune compromised Squirrel may not be so lucky!

Dietary insufficiency, or poor diet, is another cause of hair loss in Squirrels. A severe deficiency of calcium will cause poor hair growth and / or cause the hair to fall out. This is especially true in Squirrels that are kept in captivity! Special attention need to be paid to the diet as well as daily exposure to natural light or sunlight.

Following closely on poor diet is the condition called Metabolic Bone Disease. Hair loss and loss of calcium from bones are the characteristics of severe Calcium deficiency. Squirrels rapidly develop a condition called Rickets, and will lose the use of their rear legs. This causes them to shuffle when they try to walk and their bones become quite brittle and prone to breakage. Left untreated, Metabolic bone disease will advance to permanent nerve and bone damage and heart failure. Poor diet and metabolic bone disease is treatable as long as it is done in the early stages. Foods rich in calcium and calcium supplement are a must in all captive Squirrels!

The last potential cause of hair loss, especially in Gray or Fox Squirrels, is a hereditary defect. There are some squirrels born missing the hair growing chromosome, just as there are some born missing the pigmentation chromosome, (Albino Squirrels,) These hairless Squirrels never develop hair. It's rare for them to survive in the colder climates, and difficult at best to survive even in warm climates due to the fact that they are not recognized by their kind and are often attacked and even attacked or killed.

All dietary causes of hair loss in Squirrels are very easily treated through feeding a proper diet and insuring that there is sufficient quantities of calcium and essential vitamins in their diet. Through working with Squirrels and researching natural products, I've been able to improve on some tried and true recipes for squirrel food supplements. One major improvement that I found was the addition of Organic Raw Coconut Oil.

Unprocessed Coconut Oil is rich in a substance called Lauric Acid which is a natural anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti viral substance. You can read about the effect of this amazing substance on Candida Albicans, a common yeast organism at: # R2. Since I've added Raw Coconut Oil to my Squirrel Supplements, my Squirrels have grown out hair that feels as soft as mink!

Hair loss in Squirrels can be a problem! But, I've found that improving the diet of affected Squirrels, and adding the right natural products to what they eat, goes a long way towards solving most of the problems!

Causes of Ankle Sprains

Several things can cause ankle sprains. Ankle sprains are unavoidable and happen wherever you participate in a sport or not. You could simply step on the sidewalk the wrong way and twist your ankle, causing it to sprain. Ankle sprains can happen any time, any place.

While ankle sprains are an unavoidable fact of life, there are still some measures you can take both as precaution and for recovery afterwards. Following are some of the most common causes of ankle sprains and the solutions to lessen the risk of it happening.

Lack of Conditioning

If you do not keep your muscles, tendons and ligaments loose and flexible, they are more susceptible to sprain or injury. By not exercising your ankles, they get weak and unstable. Prevent this from happening by exercising your ankles for a few minutes each day. If you have a normal exercise routine, add a couple ankle exercise to strengthen the joint and make it more flexible.

Lack of Warming Up and Stretching

Without proper stretching and warm up before exercising, your ankles are more likely to get injured. One study states that basketball players who did not warm up before a game were nearly three times more likely to injure their ankles than the players who used a warm up routine.

Previous History of Ankle Sprain

If you've sprained one or both of your ankles in the past, your joints are generally more susceptible to future sprains. You can take some precautions to reduce the chances of ankle sprains, though. Stretching exercises, warm up before running or other strenuous exercises and conditioning exercises can make your ankles stronger.

Inadequate Shoes

Good shoes are important for keeping your ankles strong. If you're not an athlete, good shoes keep your ankles supported when you're walking or jogging. This also applies to the rest of your daily life. Do not skimp on well-fitting shoes or buy ones just because they look good. Unfortunately, this is the downfall of many women. Take a larger size if you have to. If the shoes are uncomfortable for the few minutes you have them on in the store, you can imagine how they would feel at the end of an eight-hour day. Spend a few extra dollars on quality shoes to help protect your ankles.

Uneven Ground and Other Situations

You've probably walked down an uneven sidewalk before and given your ankle a slight twist. This is how many people sprain their ankles. Their joint does not expect the sudden change and it does not prepare the muscles for it. Stepping in holes or trying to stand on other surfaces that are not made for standing on can cause injury to your ankle, too. You can also sprain your ankle by jogging and accidently stepping on a rock or a bump on your path.

Unfortunately, ankle sprains are never completely avoidable. You can do some simple things to strengthen your ankles and prepare them for strenuous situations, though. Take a few minutes to warm up your ankles and take other precautions to keep them healthy. A few minutes of prevention can save days or even months of pain and agony.

Paper Thin Skin – How to Thicken Your Skin and Bring Back Its Youthful Strength and Flexibility

Paper thin skin is a real thing.

It is not just your imagination: After years of aging and lack of the right nutrients, your skin really does get thinner and thinner. The fat under the skin is lost. Much worse, you lose collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, all essential to a healthy complexion. Oxidation damages and ages your skin.

Here is an explanation of how it happens, and how you can thicken and rebuild paper thin skin.

What you notice first

If you have been saying, "My skin is paper thin," you have probably had a series of bumps, bruises and scrapes. Your skin bruises at every little bump that most people would hardly notice. (Sometimes you can not even recall get a bump, but you have a nasty breeze anyway.) If you scrape your knee even a little, your skin peels away as if you had a major accident.

This is not just a problem of appearance. When your skin is this delicate, it is also easily infected, and takes much longer to heal. You may well need medical care for a wounded that would hardly bother someone with healthy skin.

What causes the problem

The problem is skin aging. That does NOT mean simply getting older. Some people get super-thin, easily wounded skin long before middle age. Often this is because of long-term use of medical steroids. Usually these drugs are given because of a chronic health condition.

Regardless of the contributing factors, aging skin has specific causes – and passing time is not one of them! Fortunately, all the most important causes of aging skin can be reversed.

Supplements can help your skin and your overall health, too.

Look for a supplement that contains at least 30 mg of SAMe (S-Adenosyl-Methionine) and at least 50 mg of Carnosine. SAMe is a wonderful nutrient involved in a key process called methylation; Carnosine stops glycation, which destroys healthy proteins, including collagen and elastin; Carnosine also has the unique ability to halt glycation which has already begun.

The other supplement that has a powerful record for skin health and repair is omega 3 fish oil. A just-introduced omega 3 fish oil contains the antioxidant astaxanthin, and a lycopene extract. The lycopene complex in this oil has been shown in clinical trials to actually thicken skin, add density, and dramatically reduce scaling and roughness – both very common in aging skin.

Skin care lotion or cream

Several ingredients in skin care lotion or cream have a proved clinical record of reversing the causes of aging skin. They can thicken and toughen skin and renew its flexibility, month after month. Here are some of the best:

– Cynergy TK stimulates the skin's own natural production of collagen and elastin. It increased new skin cell production by 160 percent and improved skin elasticity by 42 percent in trials with human volunteers. It also reduced pollution and had strong antioxidant qualities.

– A seaweed extract called Phytessence Wakame allowed the skin to rebuild its hyaluronic acid levels. In trials, it did this by blocking 52 percent of the action of an enzme that degradates hyaluronic acid.

– If the product contains Coenzyme Q10 in tiny particles, often called a "nano-emulsion," it can penetrate the skin deeply. In general, other forms of CoQ10 are not well absorbed. With natural vitamin E, CoQ10 makes perhaps the most powerful antioxidant combination in healthy skin.

Why Laser Surgery for Piles Is Recommended by Doctors

Options for First Line Piles Treatment

The first line of piles treatment is:

• High Fibre Diet

• Warm Sit-in Baths

• Cold Packs

• Over the Counter Products

The best remedial solution for this ailment is incorporating a diet that is rich in fibre and avoidance of processed foods. Whole grains, fruits, vegetables should be included in large measures in the diet so as to reduce the incidence of constipation. A fibre supplement based on the doctor’s recommendation can also be resorted to. Drinking plenty of water is a must; water intake has to be minimum seven to eight glasses per day. Warm sit-in baths can help to soothe the itching and pain besides reducing the swelling in the affected area. Gently pushing a bit of petroleum jelly into the anus also helps. Use of a cold pack over the sore area to reduce the swelling can be another option to try out. Certain over-the-counter ointments or creams for treating haemorrhoid symptoms can be used but only after consulting the relevant doctor.

Medical Procedures- Laser Surgery for Piles

If the above treatment options do not work then the doctor may perform medical procedure to remove or shrink the haemorrhoid. There are several options in this line of piles treatment. Use of injection, rubber band ligation, laser haemorrhoid surgery or the conventional surgery mode are some of them. Among all of these, laser surgery for piles works best provided the patient’s symptoms fall under pre-determined conditions. Infrared coagulation as it is known by is a minimally invasive medical procedure to treat piles and offers a number of advantages to the patient.

Benefits of Laser Haemorrhoid Surgery

• Minimum pain is endured by the patient

• Discharge is obtained by the patient on the same day and hence no hospitalisation is needed.

• The procedure is safer than conventional surgery.

• Minimal bleeding guaranteed as the laser seals off the anal blood vessels.

• Occurrence of other medical complications is avoided.

• Options of using the laser beam effectively are many and this enhances the success of the surgery.

• Makes the doctor’s task easier and also speeds the healing of the wound.

Use of general anaesthesia is not needed for laser surgery and this hastens the recovery of the patient. Therefore, if the patient’s symptoms fulfil the required conditions then he or she prefers to opt for this mode of treatment.

With so many options open for treating piles it can be quite confusing to decide which should be adopted. At such times, your doctor is the best person to advise you on the suitable line of treatment as he checks out the symptoms and physical condition. However, if medical procedure is suggested then laser surgery for piles should be considered as it is an effective and safer option.

Introduction to Pancreatic Health

The Pancreas and the Sphinster of Oddi

The pancreas is the second largest gland in the human body and plays an important role in the digestive process. It is responsible for the production of insulin that controls the balance of glucose in the body. It also releases the digestive juices and enzymes necessary for digestion into the duodenum, a cavity at the beginning of the small intestine.

The cells of the pancreas secret enzymes into a network of small ducts that extremely drain into the pancreatic duct. The pancreatic duct merges with the common bile duct at the Ampulla of Vater. The pancreatic solution mixes with the bile and is forced through a muscular valve called the Sphinster of Oddi. The Sphinster of Oddi functions as a one-way spigot to allow bile and pancreatic juice to enter the upper intestine through the duodenum. The Sphincaster of Oddi also prevails the contents of the gut from backing up into either the pancreatic duct or the common bile duct.

A properly functioning Sphincter of Oddi is critical to the health of the entire gastro-intestinal system – and necessary for a healthy body. Many scientists believe that Sphincter of Oddy Dysfunction (SOD) is the cause of many pancreatic diseases. So healing a malfunction of Sphinster of Oddi can reduce congestion and inflammation of the pancreatic gland.

The sphincter of Oddi is comprised of smooth muscle fibers that surround the end of the Pancreatic Duct and the end of the Common Bile Duct. Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction may be related to either the pancreatic or the biliary segments of the sphincter, or both.

Sphinster of Oddi Dysfunction (SOD)

There are two overall factors which influence the proper functioning of the Sphinster of Oddi: anatomical (structural) integrity and functional ability.

For smooth performance, the anatomical integrity of the Sphinster of Oddi must remain intact. For example, a physical blockage of the may stop the smooth flow of pancreatic fluid and bile solution. Gallstones can cause the blockage of the Sphinster of Oddi. The digestive solution then becomes backed up into and increases the pressure in the pancreatic duct. The enzymes and bile start to digest the pancreatic cells causing severe inflammation, pain, cysts, and finally the death of pancreatic tissue.

If the mixture backs up into the bile duct the result may be hepatitis, jaundice, or inflammation. The anatomical narrowing or closing of the Sphinster of Oddi is reliably rare, but may be caused by gallbladder stones, severe inflation or tumors. In these cases surgical care is necessary.

More frequently people have problems with the functional ability of the Sphinster of Oddi. A frequent functional problem involves spasms of the sphincter opening, or dyskinesia (In Latin "dys" means abnormal, "kinesia" means movement). Conventional medicine offers little in the way of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention at the beginning of SOD. Lack of diagnosis and treatment can cause serious complications like pancreatitis and gallbladder infection.

Sphinster of Oddi Dysfunction is believed to be a common cause of acute recurrent pancreatitis, and may account for up to one-third of unexplained cases.

Symptoms of Sphinster of Oddi Dysfunction include:

o Biliary pain felt in the middle or right part of the upper abdomen
o Pain radiating on the back at the lower tip of the scapula or right shoulder
o Pain accompanied by bloating, nausea, and vomiting.
o Pain precipitated by food or narcotics.
o The pain may vary in intensity and can last anywhere from 15 minutes to 4-5 hours.

Symptoms of episodic pancreatic pain include:

o Pain that is located in the upper abdomen on the left or right side
o Pain that radiates directly through the abdomen to the back
o Pain which is accompanied by bloating, nausea, and vomiting.

Sphinster of Oddi Dysfunction: Prevention and Treatment

Understanding the cause of the problem can help in prevention and treatment. Based on clinical evidence, scientific research and our personal medical experience, we speculate that three things are needed for the proper function of the Sphinster of Oddi:

1. Proper regulation
2. Normal structure
3. Normal quality and quantity of pancreatic juice and bile.

Blockages of the Sphinster of Oddi can be caused by multiple things: toxic substances, pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), infection, parasites, fat deposits due to being overweight or obese, trauma, surgery, and cancer. Doctors have proposed that almost 20 percent of pain following gallbladder removal surgery may be connected to (SOD).

Two primary factors regulate the function of the Sphinster of Oddi: the nervous system and digestive hormones. However, various lifestyle issues can cause spasms of the Sphinster of Oddi, including: depression, stress and anxiety, some medications, recreational drugs (especially opiates), bad diet, bad combinations of food, "eating on the go", hormonal changes, and lack of exercise. These elements influence the proper release and function of the digestive hormones secretin and cholecystokinin, which are the natural regulators of the Sphinster of Oddi.

To function properly, pancreatic enzymes require the pH of the duodenum to be slightly on the alkaline side. Because the food coming from the stomach has recently been acidified, the body must provide sufficient excess alkalinity in the duodenum for the enzymes to work. Sufficient amounts of water, minerals, trace elements, and bicarbonates have a chemical impact on the alkalinity, and there is quality and quantity, of the pancreatic digestive enzymes. Certain lifestyle factors can cause metabolic acidosis, or an excess of overall acidity in the body. Bad diets including processed food, meat and potatoes, fried foods, soft drink colas, sugar and starches build up acids in the body. Body acidity can be increased by smoking, alcohol, drugs, and Candida-yeast overgrowth. If the body is too acidic, the pancreatic juice and bile can not function properly.

Processed Food and Digestive Problems

In the past sixty years, the United States has seen a significant increase of people with digestive problems. The increased digestive problems are related to what has been called the "nutritional revolution". This term reflects to the gradual move of much of the population to a diet of highly processed food.

Such processed food, or "dead" food, is full of artificial chemicals which cause excess body acidity and nutritional deficiencies. Furthermore, processed food does not contain the living enzymes, fiber, essential vitamins, minerals and trace elements necessary for the body to produce the needed quality and quantity of digestive enzymes. At the same time, toxic, aggressive, acidic bile additionally suppresses the pancreatic cells and keeps them from producing digestive enzymes or, in worse scenario, activate the enzymes to digest their own pancreas. The lack of quality pancreatic digestive enzymes leads to an imbalance in the body. And the body's imbalance leads to spasms of the Sphinster of Oddi and creates a vicious cycle of digestive problems.

Few of the discussed factors affecting the Sphinster of Oddi occur in a vacuum. Many of the problems overlap and together they can cause serious health problems, ranging from hidden pancreatic insufficiency to a complete shut down of the function of vital organs such as the liver and the pancreas.

The first symptoms of SOD should trigger an internal alarm which says that a change of lifestyle is necessary. Making lifestyle changes can help prevent the exacerbation of the gastrointestinal problems. Our clinical experience shows that there is no panacea or magic treatment when dealing with SOD. But the following can be helpful in healing:

o Dietary changes to heal the body
o Herbal medicine
o Nutritional supplementation
o Drinking healing mineral water made from genuine Karlovy Vary Thermal Spring Salt (it is available in the United States)
o Acupuncture
o Whole body cleansing with the restoration of friendly intestinal flora
o Professional help quitting alcohol, smoking, drugs, bad eating habits, craving, overweight, etc.

Herbal Antibiotic

Herbal antibiotics will aid in building immune reserves, and immune deficiency optimizing health and the quality of life. Herbal blends can be effective against drug-resistant bacteria. It has very strong immune activating abilities as it activates the white blood cells to fight off both bacterial and viral infections. It also activates the body's production of interferon, a specific protein which protects cells against the invasion of viruses.

The immune system protects against bacteria, viruses, toxins, parasites and microbes. It is extremely important to maintain a healthy immune system. A poor immune system is more susceptible to infections, colds and flu, cancer, and heart disease. Bacteria lives all around and hundreds of beneficial bacteria live in the human body helping to protect against harmful ones. Prescription antibiotics are effective in killing bad bacteria, but they also kill good bacteria. Good bacteria is an important part of the immune system, lining the digestive, respiratory, and urinary tracts. Prescription antibiotic use will often cause yeast overgrowth, which further weakens the immune system.

Herbs have the ability to support good blood chemistry, and help cleanse and detoxify. When you nourish and balance the system, the body is given what it needs to resist, repair and overcome disease, and achieve optimal health. Antibiotic herbs are effective for bacterial, viral, and fungal treatment. Cures may not come as quickly as pharmaceutical drugs. Although antibiotic herbs are gentler than pharmaceuticals, they should only be taken when needed. Prescription antibiotic drugs will still be there when we really need them.
