Inflammatory Heart Disease – Types – Precautions and Treatment

An inflammatory heart disease involves inflammation of the heart muscle or the tissue surrounding it. There are several types of heart diseases such as hypertension, alvular heart disease, ischaemic heart disease, etc. They are classified into myocarditis, pericarditis or endocarditis depending on the layer of tissue where the inflammation has occurred. When there is an infection in the body, automatically antibodies are produced to fight them. But in some cases the antibiotics start attacking the tissue within the body, for example the heart, this leads to an inflammation. If not treated on time, it may result in complications and permanent damage to the heart. In certain rare cases even death.

The following are the types of inflammatory heart disease –

1. Enocarditis – is an inflammation of the inner layer of the heart or the heart valves
2. Pericarditis – is an inflammation of the pericardium which is the sac surrounding the heart.
3. Myocarditis – is an inflammation of the muscular part of the heart.

Causes –

The major causes of heart diseases are smoking, excessive drinking, obesity, less or no physical activities and excessive stress. Inflammation of the heart is also a common occurrence in rheumatic fever and Kawasaki disease.

Symptoms –

Here are some of the common symptoms of this disease –

1. The primary symptoms include chest pain and discomfort in the chest area.
2. Other symptoms include dizziness, difficulty breathing, nausea, swelling of feel and fatigue.

If you have any of these symptoms individually or together, it is best if you go to a doctor and get yourself fully checked. It is also important to have all the tests done to determine exactly what kind of a heart related condition you have, and how to get it treated. As seen above the symptoms are not always clear but should be kept in mind always.

Precautions –

It is good to have regular check ups if anyone in your family has heart related problems. If you are diagnosed with a heart condition the doctor will advice you to have a healthy diet, exercise regularly and quit smoking and drinking.

Treatment –

Inflammation of the heart can be treated with the help of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications. All kinds of treatment methods need to be discussed with the doctor physician. If the medication does not show the needed changes, and if the condition has become severe, surgery is also performed. With the advanced technology surgeries today are minimally invasive and require a short recovery period.

Various Heart Problems and Their Treatment

Heart disease is a general term that refers to a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions that affect one or more of the components of the heart.. Diseases affecting the heart may be structural or functional. Anything that damages the heart or decreases the heart’s supply of oxygen, makes it less efficient, reduces its ability to fill and pump, will disrupt the coordinated relationship between the heart, kidneys, and blood vessels and will harm not only the heart but the rest of the body as well.

Heart disease is any disorder that affects the heart’s ability to function normally. The most common cause of heart disease is narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart itself.

Heart Failure- Heart failure is a condition in which the heart can’t pump blood the way it should. In some cases, the heart can’t fill with enough blood “Heart failure” doesn’t mean that your heart has stopped or is about to stop working. However, it’s a serious condition that requires medical care. Heart failure is also called congestive heart failure, or CHF. “Congestive” means fluid is building up in the body because the heart isn’t pumping properly.

Treatment of the Cause: If the cause of heart failure is a narrowed or leaking heart valve or an abnormal connection between heart chambers, surgery can often correct the problem. Blockage of a coronary artery may require treatment with drugs, surgery, or angioplasty Antihypertensive drugs can reduce and control high blood pressure. Antibiotics can eliminate some infections. Treatment of a stomach ulcer or use of an iron supplement may correct anemia. Drugs, surgery, or radiation therapy can be used to manage an overactive thyroid gland, and thyroid hormones can be given to manage an under active thyroid gland.
Heart Tumor

Heart Tumors that arise from the normal tissues that makes up theheart. This is in contrast to secondary tumors of the heart, which are typically either metatastic from another part of the body, or infiltrate the heart via direct extension from the surrounding tissues.

A single small noncancerous primary heart tumor can be surgically removed, usually resulting in a cure. If a large noncancerous primary tumor is significantly reducing blood flow through the heart, removal of the part of the tumor that does not grow into the heart wall may improve heart functionabout half of newborns who have noncancerous rhabdomyomas, tumors regress without treatment; in the other half, the tumors do not grow any larger and do not require treatment. In infants and children, a fibroma may be successfully removed if it does not affect the wall between the ventricles (septum). Tumors that affect this wall usually also affect the electrical conduction system of the heart and cannot be surgically removed.

Angina pain-Chest pain that originates from the heart muscle is called angina pectoris. Angina is a signal that the heart muscle is not getting sufficient blood flow, specifically sufficient oxygen. Lack of oxygen is termed ischemia. Blood flow is most often reduced by coronary artery disease (CAD), which causes a narrowing of the arteries that carry blood to the heart muscle. Narrowing in the coronary arteries occurs as a result of calcium and fatty deposits, called plaques. In more severe cases, heart attack (myocardial infarction), heart failure, or rhythm abnormalities can cause sudden cardiac death.

Severe atherosclerotic narrowing of one or more coronary arteries is responsible for myocardial ischemia and angina pectoris in most patients with stable angina pectoris. The coronary arteries of patients with stable angina also contain many nonobstructive plaques, which are prone to fissures or rupture resulting in presentation of acute coronary syndromes (unstable angina, myocardial infarction, sudden ischemic death). In addition to symptomatic relief of symptoms and an increase in angina-free walking time with antianginal drugs or revascularization procedures, the recent emphasis of treatment has been to reduce adverse clinical outcomes (coronary death and myocardial infarction).

Natural Flatulence Remedy

Looking for a natural flatulence remedy? You're not alone. There is nothing more embarrassing then emitting gas in a public place surrounded by lots of people. One has to admit that it is really funny though but it can be a major problem for some people. While I do not have a problem controlling my flatulence I did let loose one time in school by accident when I bent over to pick something up off the floor. I was very embarrassed but it was not a big deal and now I can laugh about it.

There are natural remedies to help you to keep from admitting gas so frequently. One of the ways is to start eating better. Typically those unhealthier foods do not break down as well and this will cause build up in your system. When you do eat do not eat so fast because eating too fast can cause flatulence to occur more often. Apple cider vinegar is known to cure or help many ailments and if you drink a glass a day, goodbye flatulence problem. Also, peppermint leaves have been know to cure flatulence. Even drinking hot water will help break down the waste in your system and might cause you to break wind less often as well.

Remedies are not as complicated as people might think, eating healthier foods such as fruits and vegetables will help you in more ways then you could expect, exercising will also help reduce the amount of flatulence you produce as well. Bonus, you will become physically more fit and that is always good.

How to Overcome Panic Attacks – Mastering Your Fear

Although panic attacks may seem to occur randomly and without any warning, they are actually the product of your own thinking. Thus, in order to overcome panic attacks, you will need to come to term with your thoughts.

Panic attacks is really nothing more than bodily sensations of panic/anxiety and the misinterpretation of those sensations as dangerous. In short, you believe that your in danger, and that resulted in an increased in anxiety, which in turn worsen your symptoms. This is a vicious cycle which most sufferers are dealing with. Anxiety worsen your symptoms, which creates MORE anxiety, which in turn escalate your symptoms, which creates MORE anxiety, etc…

As you can see, it is easy to get caught up and think that your stuck with some “mysterious illness” forever. That you are really doomed or your dieing soon.

You need to understand that everything is a big misunderstanding, a deadly mistake. Your body accidentally trigger your panic response and you mistakenly believe it for real. You are convinced that your in danger (heart attack, suffocate, faint, go crazy), and your about to die soon. All that is completely untrue!

You not having a heart attack. Your not suffocating. Your not going mad. Your not dieing.

Thus, in order to overcome panic attacks, you will need to come to term with your thoughts and ACCEPT THEM. You need to understand that it is your thoughts and assumption that are to be blamed. To think otherwise, to think that a certain thing or situation CAUSES you to have panic attacks is false!

Its not the scary movie, your neighbor’s dog, bus, taxis, public transport, or that crowded place. You don’t have brain tumor, heart attack, cancer, or any nerve damage. Its only you! You MUST understand that all these is coming from you! You are exaggerating those strange symptoms into MAJOR significance, associating them for the wrong reasons!

Thus, this is where you need to change. You need to accept these feelings and do everything you can to overcome them. Do not run or hide from it…and certainly do not fear it. It could be a long struggle, but this is where the first step to recovery must come from!

Lymphedema Products

Managing lymphedema can be quite difficult but a combination therapy of manual lymph drainage followed by bandaging and using compression garments has yielded positive results. Skin care and exercise also play a major role in the treatment of lymphedema. In order to conduct this therapy, various lymphedema products are used to aid the process. Some of the products are compression bandages, compression garments, foams and footwear, accessories like hooks, fasteners, donning aids, padding, compression devices and pumps. In the first step of treatment, manual lymph drainage is performed followed by bandaging and daily use of compression garments with regular skin care.

Patients with lymphedema have to wear compression garments after decongestive therapy so that the reduction of the swelling is maintained. These compression garments can either be custom-made or purchased from a store. Compression sleeves, gloves, gauntlets and bras are some of the lymphedema products used for the upper region of the body. For the lower extremities, knee-high or thigh-high stockings, compression panty hose and other compression devices are available. It is important to consult the doctor while selecting a compression garment so that it is suitable for the patient’s condition. The compression garments need to be replaced periodically as they lose their efficacy with constant use.

Bandaging the affected limb helps to keep the swelling in check. In case of lymphedema patients, bandages are essential to exert a resistance on the skin so that the muscle tissue can easily absorb the fluids and reduce water retention. Even throughout the daily activities or exercises, it is advisable to bandage the limb so that the lymphatic flow is encouraged. Short stretch bandages are ideal because they promote circulation of the lymph fluids, thus preventing swelling. A variety of lymphedema products are available for bandaging -tubular stockinettes, bandages for fingers and toes, adhesive bandages and tapes can be purchased according to the individual needs.

An item that plays a major part in the lymphedema treatment process is the pump. The Sequential Gradient Pump and FlexiTouch Pump are two varieties of pumps commonly used for decongestive therapy. These prove to be greatly useful to people who have no access to a massage therapist who can help them with the decongestive therapy. Lymphedema pumps can either be bought or rented out from medical stores. Other lymphedema products include items used for skin care and cleansing. Gels, oils, lubricating and moisturizing creams are utilized by patients for their skincare routine.

Lymphedema patients must follow a life-long treatment for the condition. Newer products coming on the market are being used by therapists to take care of problem issues like swelling and fibrotic tissues. Elastic Therapeutic Tape is one such product which is used to soften edemas. Certain accessories akin to bandage rollers, donning or doffing aids or even special footwear aim to make life a little easier for the lymphedema patient. Online shopping is a convenience of the modern age and patients can easily procure lymphedema products to suit their individual requirements. Some of these stores have trained personnel to help the patient select the right product.

Congestive Heart Disease Information

Congestive heart disease is a physical disorder in which the heart no longer pumps hard enough. Since the heart pumps weakly, blood can back up into the lungs, liver, gastrointestinal tract, and extremities.

Congestive heart disease is also called congestive heart failure (CHF), cardiac failure, or heart failure. These names can be misleading, since they seem to indicate that the heart has totally failed and that death is imminent. This is not the case. Congestive heart disease is nearly always a chronic, long-term condition, although it does sometimes develop suddenly.

How Common Is Congestive Heart Disease?

Of 100 people between the ages of 27 and 74, approximately 2 have congestive heart disease. That means about 6 million people in the U.S. are affected by the disease. After age 74, congestive heart disease becomes more common. It is said to be the leading cause of hospitalization among senior citizens.

Causes of Congestive Heart Disease

Congestive heart disease has many causes. They include, but are not limited to, the following causes:

* Weakening of the heart muscle due to viral infections. The weakness may also be caused by toxins such as alcohol abuse.
* Weakening of the heart muscle by coronary artery disease that has led to heart attacks.
* Weakening of the heart muscle by heart valve disease that involves large amounts of blood leakage.
* Heart muscle stiffness caused by a blocked heart valve.
* Uncontrolled high blood pressure, also called hypertension.
* High levels of the thyroid hormone.
* Excessive use of amphetamines (“speed”).

Symptoms of Congestive Heart Disease

Either side of the heart muscle may weaken and cause congestive heart disease. The symptoms of congestive heart disease depend on the side of the heart that is affected. They can include these:

* asthma that can be attributed to the heart
* blood pooling in the body’s overall circulation
* blood pooling in the liver’s circulation
* enlargement of the heart
* shortness of breath
* skin color that appears bluish or dusky
* swelling of the body, especially the extremities

Congestive Heart Disease Risk Factors

As is true with most heart disease, family history is a major risk factor for congestive heart disease. Genetics cannot easily be altered. Age is a second risk factor that cannot be changed. Congestive heart disease is particularly prevalent among older people.

Aside from those two, however, risk factors can and should be addressed. Here are 7 risk factors for congestive heart disease that you may want to discuss with your health care provider.

1. High blood pressure: This is the highest risk factor for congestive heart disease! Men with uncontrolled high blood pressure are twice as likely as those with normal blood pressure to suffer congestive heart disease. If a woman has uncontrolled high blood pressure, she is three times as likely as women with normal blood pressure to develop congestive heart disease.

2. Heart Attacks: This is the second highest risk factor for congestive heart disease. Those who have had heart attacks that resulted in damage to the heart muscle, and scarring of the muscle tissue, have increased risks of experiencing congestive heart disease.

3. High Cholesterol: Showing high levels of cholesterol, particularly when levels of HDL are low, is listed as another risk factor for congestive heart disease.

4. Diabetes: Both type 1 and type 2 diabetes are risk factors for developing congestive heart disease.

5. Obesity: Men and women who are overweight unnecessarily increase their risks of experiencing congestive heart disease. The heart must work harder when the body is not at a healthy weight, and can begin to lose its ability to deliver blood efficiently.

6. Prolonged Physical Inactivity: A sedentary lifestyle, with little exercise, puts people at risk for congestive heart disease, especially as they increase in age. The heart needs cardiovascular exercise to remain strong and able to function well.

7. Smoking: Smoking increases the heart’s workload. It also affects the lungs. This is a risk for congestive heart disease that anyone can eliminate.

CAUTION: Please see your doctor if you have reason to think you may have one or more of the risk factors or symptoms of congestive heart disease. The information contained in this article is for educational purposes only.

Stop Panic Attacks – Get Your Anxiety Under Control Before it Literally Kills You!

Are you to the point where you just cannot take another panic attack? Have you thought about doing things that would end it that are very unhealthy for you and the people around you? There are ways to stop panic attacks that are natural and work much better than medication. Here is what you need to know.

One of the things that most people don’t know about panic is that it is something that is very difficult to notice and heal. You don’t even know you have it for a while, then you just begin to accept it as part of life. You begin to believe that you are just that way and there is nothing that can be done.

Sure if the attacks get bad enough you will look for a way to stop panic attacks, but that usually means doctor visits and who really wants to go to that trouble. Plus if you do go see a doctor you will end up taking medication that you might not be able to afford and who knows if it will actually work to stop panic attacks or not.

The one thing you do know is that you are sick of having anxiety attacks and you are sick of being in a state of stressful worry all the time. Nobody blames you, but you do need to do something about this or it could literally kill you one day. It will just get worse and worse and at some point could cause a heart attack or something more severe than that.

Ornithosis -definition, Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Ornithosis – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
Ornithosis is define as an infectious disease that affects many bird species worldwide such as parrots , macaws , cockatiels , parakeets ,pigeons , sparrows , ducks , hens , sea gulls etc & generally spread to humans from birds, specially psittacine, or parrot-like, birds. It can also be moved to other mammals. Ornithosis is also known as parrot fever , parrot disease & psittacosis . It is recognized as a zoonotic infectious disease produced by the bacterium Chlamydia psittaci.
This disease appears in the hole world specially to those people who are associated with occupational exposure to birds such as poultry farming, which is spread to humans by birds. This infectious disease ornithosis is characterized by pneumonitis and systemic symptoms (throughout the body). It is sometimes applied to infections from birds other than birds includes the parrots, macaws, and parakeets.

CausesOrnithosis is an contagious disease originated by chlamydia and can be spread from birds, animals to man. The bacterium Chlamydia psittaci are discharged in the lachrymal fluid, droppings, beak and throat mucus and the crop milk. Sometimes transmission appears through direct or close interaction with contaminated secretions or body tissues, as in laboratory personnel who work with birds. Person-to-person transmission seldom occurs but generally results critical ornithosis.
The infected birds by ornithosis become the carriers & discharge the pathogen. The birds contract the disease by breathing in dust having the pathogen, by ingesting contaminated feed or water & by billing or feeding their young.
The infection may moved to the upper respiratory tract. Nasal catarrh appears, a milky yellow liquid may extract from the nostrils and then dry & obstruct them. The inflammation produces itching & pain , which the pigeon will try to scratch.
The incubation period in humans is 5-14 days & symptoms occurs from illness to systemic illness with severe pneumonia .The symptoms in the humans include are rash, mild fever, headache and commonly pneumonia. But in birds, the symptoms occur such as low appetite, ruffled appearance, eye or nose discharge, and diarrhea.
Ornithosis occurs in 2 ways:

  • The acute ornithosis can be occur in young pigeons from wheezing noises, uni- or bilateral conjunctivitis & muco-aqueous enteritis with diarrhoea .

  • The chronic ornithosis is more often developed in adult birds, which, however, show few or no symptoms of the infection.

There are some of the ornithosis symptoms given below are:

  • Pain in muscle
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Cough (dry)
  • Breathing disorder
  • Blood tinged sputum

In some complex situations encephalitis, endocarditis , hepatitis , myocarditis , arthritis & keratoconjunctivitis may sometime occur.
Tetracycline, an antibiotics are often recommended to treat ornithosis in both humans and birds.
If the patient can’t able to tolerate tetracycline, penicillin G procaine or chloramphenicol is recommended as an alternative.
Chlortetracyclin is also used for many years to ebb the as it is the one of the good drugs to treat the ornithosis.
There are lot of drugs available in the market to mitigate the ornithosis ,the drugs which are commonly use to treat ornithosis with antibiotics such as doxycycline ,erythromycin & azithromycin

Ways of Transmission and Primo Infection of Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is transmitted by respiratory way; an infected person will emit while coughing or sneezing about 2-3 bacterial particles. The person in immediate proximity will inhale the particles that will get to the lungs and multiply causing the infection.

Another less common transmission type is through the skin in laboratory workers and pathologists. They contact Mycobacterium through skin injuries while handling infected tissues. Cases of Tuberculin infection have been found also in circumcisions made with unsterilised instruments or in people with tattoos given in unhygienic environments.

In spite of the high risk of catching the Tuberculosis bacteria, the actual disease is only developed by 5-10% of the persons with primo infection. Healthy immune systems manage to annihilate the bacterial strains completely.

Most cases of actual Tuberculin infection are seen in smokers, persons of the lower society living in poverty and misery, alcoholics and people with depressed immune systems. The patients really developing the infection might go through two important stages of the disease, the primary and the secondary stage.

The primer stage of Tuberculosis or primo infection doesn’t show clinical signs of the disease and the patient is frequently unaware of his condition. The disease is not contagious in the primer stage and cannot cause further cases of Tuberculosis infection.

If the immune system is working, immune cells like the macrophages detect and ingest the infectious particles transporting them to the lymph nodes where they can be destroyed. In some cases, the bacterial fragments get to the lymph nodes and multiply causing the ganglion Tuberculosis.

If the bacteria is not destroyed and annihilated, the infectious the fire box activates producing the appearance of clinical signs of Tuberculosis. The patient coughs, sweats mostly at night, looses weight and develops fever. In case of an X-ray investigation opacities of the lungs and fluids collection (Pleurisy) can be discovered.

If the bacteria are only inhibited, not killed, the immune cells form a wall around the inactivated germs producing a so called Granulom. The wall collects amounts of calcium in time forming the Ghon focus. Usually the tubercles heal and permanent scars remain visible on the chest X-rays. The bacteria remain dormant inside the cell wall until the immune system is weakened by different factors and the bacteria are released. The primer infection can evolve into a secondary one.

The secondary Tuberculosis develops when the bacterial fragments multiply and begin to destroy the surrounding tissues inside the lungs. The infection might also advance to other organs or tissues by sanguine way. Other focus and tubercles develop inside the lungs and fluid collection can occur between the linings of the lungs. Patients in secondary stage cough blood and are contagious for people in the proximity.

New Product Design and Development: the Seven Reasons to Think About the Future

Everybody who is in the business of New Product Development knows what a complex process it is. This is a multidisciplinary activity requiring coherence between almost all the functions of manufacturing firms.

Until recently though those who were called ‘product designers‘ played in this process a role of rather a secondary importance. They were briefed by marketing, engineering departments, ad agencies with an only task: ‘We want this look nice‘…

Then something went wrong. And those days are over. Today, Design Council Chairman prepares reports to the UK Prime-minister on how ‘UK businesses can stay ahead of their global rivals by drawing on the country’s world-leading design capabilities’. And at Davos, during the World Economic Forum held under the theme ‘The Creative Imperative’, world leaders discuss how to apply design thinking to survive in the uncertainty and complexity global economy brings.

Approach to design in Russia is still at the level of aesthetics and, at best, ergonomics. In the meantime, design can be applied as a strategic business tool at least in the two directions. Inside the company design can become a strong management tool for aligning – and, thus, optimization – all the processes of NPD through focusing on the needs of all stakeholders for whom the product is developed, through creating consumer-based innovation culture. Outside the company designers have proved to be excellent observers researching into people’s unmet needs and, thus, discovering new niches and even new markets.

Developing innovative product: Seven reasons to think about the future is searching into the ways which made design shift from aesthetics towards strategy and discussing how to make most out of design thinking when developing really innovative new products, – both tangible and intangible.

«Only one company can be the cheapest, the others have to use design.»

Rodney Fitch, Chairman Fitch & Co

Reason #1. Fundamental Changes in the World Design Industry

The industry of design is undergoing deep transformation: from now on design is not only for appearance and style. Design is dramatically changing its role from being simply a tactical device to becoming a strategic business tool.

How does it have to do with NPD?

Design today is playing a much more important role during the first, probably, the most critical phase in the whole process of developing new product. This is a stage of strategic planning when you need to understand what to do, what target audience will be involved, what brand values will be pronounced, what new value to your customer this product will bring. It will not be an overstatement to say that it is from this stage success and failure of the new product depends. After all, it is not by accident that this ‘0‘ phase is called the Fuzzy Front End of Innovation…

What happens with designers today?

They expand their capabilities into new to them areas until then being ‘occupied’ by marketers, brand specialists and management consultants. They obtain degrees in business and anthropology, psychology and ethnography. And more and more they become ‘human factors’ specialists.

«We investigated into fourteen large companies with an annual sales volume from $500 million to $10 billion. We discovered that only four of them had managed to meet plan in terms of timing, functionality of new products and market share. In five cases companies designed new generation’s products which were positively evaluated by experts, but at the end these products failed. As it turned out, every time when in an NPD process difficulties occurred, the roots of problems could easily be found at the stage of early planning, when the company had to decide what design the new product will have.»

«In search for new generation’s product», Harvard Business Review, 2007

Reason #2. Transformation of Consumption Culture

What are the reasons for the changes in the role design plays in NPD?

Technological revolution provides customers with real power in the market. Today, the question of the utmost importance for brands is how to satisfy people who have an almost endless choice reinforced by instant access to global market.

Thus, the main issue of NPD has dramatically changed:

Until recently it was: ‘What technical/organization/financial/manufacturing possibilities for designing new product we have’ (Technology-Driven Strategy);

Now: ‘What else does our customer want?/How can we emphasize with him?/What should we design to make our new brand/product experience as interesting, amazing, exciting as possible'(Consumer-Driven Strategy).

«It’s About Wants, Not Needs.

Consumers are saying they have enough stuff, want more experiences – 59% of them say they have all the material things they need.»

Fitch, 2005

Moreover, fusion of virtual and mobile cultures give people the power to manage their own ‘marketing environment’ regardless of companies business aims:

«3000: Number of advertising messages people are exposed to per day;
90%: Proportion of people who can skip TV ads who do skip TV ads;
80%: Market share of video recorders with ad skipping technology in 2008;
69%: Proportion of people interested in technology that enable them to skip of block advertising.»

Justin Kirby & Paul Marsden (2006). Connected thinking, Oxford, UK

Reason #3. Marketing Research vs. Design Research

Who meets new challenges?

Traditional marketing tools are good to shape already existed in the market ideas, understand whether these ideas have huge market and potential. All anything, but the larger demand for innovation, the more problems with identifying new product opportunities marketing has. Thus, companies have huge difficulties with identifying unmet customer needs since these are largely latent and not easy to formulate by the customers themselves.

By this, intuitive thinking, qualitative approach used by designers is very good for imagining new possibilities. Designers proved to be those folks who have managed to accomplish traditional marketing research with its design research methods based on approaching to human life in all its complexity and versatility.
This was the reason the whole NPD chain turned upside down and today it is not marketers and so called creative agencies tell designers what to do, but design consultancies identify new product opportunities, create design briefs, conduct research, develop a platform for further innovations and even brief ad companies on how to promote the new product.

«Eìery year brings 30,000 new products.
About 90% of the fail despite thorough and expensive market research…»

Harvard Business Review, 2005

«If I’d asked people what they wanted, they would have asked for a better horse…»

Henry Ford

Reason #4. From ‘Consumer’ to ‘Human’ Experience

What philosophy is behind design research?

Unlike artificial situations of focus group discussions, designers prefer conducting in-context observations looking at the world through their customers’ eyes, empathizing with the soul, mind and body of customer. Philosophy of Zen Buddhism with its total immersion in reality, attention to ordinary life and day-to-day experiences is possibly the best way to describe how they like approaching to work.
Those who combine design thinking with interest in user research are called human fa?tors specialists. They research into total human – not merely customer – experience, investigate how people approach the world, what nuances of interaction with the product, brand, environment is of the most importance for them, what they expect from usage. That’s why in development divisions of many companies we can find such new positions as cognitive psychologists, social anthropologists, cross-cultural specialists who adapt products of global brands to markets with different values and mentality, as well as ethnographers. For example, Intel has more than twenty ethnographers among its employees. Microsoft, British Telecom, AT&T, HP, IBM – these and many other companies hire ethnographers who are excellent at watching people during design research.

If in a focus group you ask your potential user what characteristics should product of the future possess, high chances the answer will be in an area of the already known. At best, you will be said how to improve already existed aspects of using, say, a drill. The point is that the customer comes to a shop not to buy the drill. He is looking for a hole in the wall and you can endlessly redesign drill until some day somebody solves the issue of ‘a hole in the wall’ in some different way. And this will be the innovation.

It is not by accident that design thinking is often called ‘out-of-the-box thinking’: it is this way of thinking which helps come out beyond ‘consumer’ experience approach and see a human who has home and in this home he or she wants harmony and cosiness and to reach these one requires a means of mounting the picture they like to the wall. After all, should it be a drill or something else, for this human is not that important…

Reason #5. Design Thinking – Best Tool to Tackle Tacit Knowledge

But why design??

As a real power in the market goes to the customer, and knowledge worker accumulates critical for companies survival knowledge in his/her head, the problem of efficient dealing with tacit knowledge is becoming a real challenge within businesses and organizations. In other words, New Economy requires new way of thinking to tackle ‘ill-defined’ tacit knowledge – call it synthetic, lateral, innovative, right-brain, divergent and, of course, design thinking.
In fact, to go from a business concept of a new product to its actual realization, from the world of idea to its materialization, means to be able to combine together controversial, on the one hand and underdetermined, on the other, demands:

1. Consumer’s need in the product or service;
2. Viability of new product development for business;
3. Feasibility from the point of view of the required technologies.

«In poems, in novels, in painting the brain seems to find itself able to work very well with material that any computer would have rejected as formless.»
Norbert Wiener

«Today perceptiveness is more important than analysis.»
Peter Drucker

Reason #6. From Product Design to Experience Design

What does all this mean for “new designers”?

An ability to create diverse human experiences, not just physical shapes. Content, not simply form. Workplaces not merely furniture. This is a gift of co-creation, of holistic approach to life and ability to fill it with meaning, emotions and lifestyle drivers.

Today, leading design consultancies position themselves as talents in creating a “complete product, brand, customer experience”. They regard this as their main competitive advantage. And it is well explained: ‘industrial design’ as a creation of the product appearance has moved to the Chinese – the chances you outperform them in therms of speed, price and even quality are neat to zero.

It is quite interesting, that the word “experience” is one of the most difficult for translating into the Russian language…

«Truth cannot be defined, although it can certainly be experienced.

But experience is not a definition. Definition is done by the mind, experience is done by participating. If somebody asks, «What is a dance?» how can you define it? But you can dance and you can know the inner feel of it.»

Reason #7. From the Knowledge Economy to the Creativity Economy

What does all this mean for businesses?

A new stage in the evolution and, first of all, an urgent search for new type of employees who are able to work with fuzzy, ‘sticky‘ and vague information – the stuff inside employees’ and customers’ heads so critical for companies survival.

That’s why we hear about ‘The Creative Imperative’ and observe deep interest of businesses in design, its methods and tools. For apply of such unique design tools, as design iconography, prototyping, scenario planning, storytelling, storyboards, videos have proved themselves as highly efficient in compressing and transferring multiple and complex concepts in the form which is easy to comprehend by a variety of audiences.

Moreover, design thinking being intrinsically synthetic type of thinking – read, leading to innovation – can be highly appropriate to co-create tacit knowledge of the network by:

1. Tapping tacit knowledge
2. Processing it into tangibles
3. Transferring it both inside and outside the company.

‘The Knowledge Economy is being eclipsed by the Creativity Economy…

What was once central to corporations — price, quality, and much of the left-brain, digitized analytical work associated with knowledge – is fast being shipped off to lower-paid, highly trained Chinese and Indians, as well as Hungarians, Czechs, and Russians. Increasingly, the new core competence is creativity – the right-brain stuff that smart companies are now harnessing to generate top-line growth. The game is changing. It isn’t just about math and science anymore. It’s about creativity, imagination, and, above all, innovation.’

Fix it Yourself – The (Almost) Cure For the Common Cold

Everyone has caught a cold or had the flu at one time or another. You know the common cold symptoms: you cough, you sneeze, your head aches, your nose leaks, your eyes are blurry, and you just plain feel miserable. Sound familiar? As much as we all wish there was a cold cure, it’s just not here yet. But there are ways to alleviate the pain and suffering of the common cold. Let’s first examine how we’ve all caught our little illness, and then we can examine cold treatment.

How to Catch the Common Cold

Colds tend to hide in the most obvious places, which makes them very easy to catch. First, while out and about, we leave our gloves and hand protection at home. This makes it so that when we put our hands on easily infected items, the cold will be magically attracted to our hands and just climb aboard, making the catch almost no effort on our part. These items can include shopping carts, railings, door handles, phones, computers, steering wheels, handshakes, and MANY more. All of your friends, neighbors, acquaintances, and kids are very generous, offering to give you the cold that they themselves have caught. They may offer it by sneezing, coughing, kissing, shaking hands, or hugging. And you thought they were just being nice. Well, now that you’ve caught the common cold, let’s see how to get rid of it, or at least live with it for a while.

How to (almost) Cure the Common Cold

Believe it or not, simply resting in bed and drinking lots of fluids will go a long way in getting rid of your cold. The common cold loves stress, and will attach to all incoming stress with alacrity. Fluids rich in vitamin C and water will help the cold swim its way out of your system. Another thing to do is to blow your nose often: Don’t sniffle! Blowing your nose literally blows more and more of the cold out. When the cold has attacked your throat, try gargling with salt water to soothe your esophagus. Try taking vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, Zinc, Selenium, Vitamin E, and Beta Carotene. Apparently, colds really don’t like such vitamins and minerals, and may leave your system sooner if you take them. And next time, use a good hand sanitizer to keep from catching that cold in the first place!

As soon as science makes a cure for the common cold, I will certainly let you know, but for now, these are a few things you can do to work out the cold you’ve already caught. Happy trails!

New treatments for Giant cell tumor

Giant cell tumor of bone (GCT) is a rare, aggressive non-cancerous (benign) tumor. It generally occurs in adults between the ages of 20 and 40 years. Giant cell tumor of bone is very rarely seen in children or in adults older than 65 years of age. Giant cell tumors occur in approximately one person per million per year.

Giant cell tumors are named for the way they look under the microscope. Many “giant cells” are seen. They are formed by fusion of several individual cells into a single, larger complex.

Many bone tumors and other conditions (including normal bone) contain giant cells. Giant cell tumor of bone is given its characteristic appearance by the constant finding of a large number of these cells existing in a typical background. Most bone tumors occur in the flared portion near the ends of long bone (metaphysis), but giant cell tumor of bone occurs almost exclusively in the end portion of long bones next to the joints (epiphysis). In rare cases, this tumor may spread to the lungs.

Giant cell tumors of bone occur spontaneously. They are not known to be associated with trauma, environmental factors, or diet. They are not inherited. In rare cases, they may be associated with hyperparathyroidism.

agent Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a privately held specialty pharmaceutical company, today announced that it has launched pamidronate disodium injection in single-dose vials containing 30 mg per 10 mL and 90 mg per 10 mL.  Pamidronate disodium injection, the generic alternative of Novartis Pharmaceutical Company’s Aredia®, is a bone resorption inhibitor.  The 2008 U.S. market for pamidronate disodium approximated $17 million, according to IMS data.
“Pamidronate is an important adjunctive therapy for cancer patients for the treatment of chemotherapy-associated osteoporosis,” said Jeffrey M. Yordon, chief executive officer, founder, and chairman of the board of Sagent. “It will be a valuable addition to Sagent’s oncolytic and supportive care product line, and we believe we are well positioned to serve this market.”

Pamidronate disodium is indicated for the treatment of moderate or severe hypercalcemia associated with malignancy, with or without bone metastases. Patients who have either epidermoid or non-epidermoid tumors respond to treatment with pamidronate disodium. Secondly, pamidronate disodium is indicated for the treatment of patients with moderate to severe Paget’s disease of bone. Thirdly, it is indicated, in conjunction with standard antineoplastic therapy, for the treatment of osteolytic bone metastases of breast cancer and osteolytic lesions of multiple myeloma.

Is The Pneumonia Serious One Or Just A Walking One, Look For These Symptoms

Whats serious is that- its Pneumonia, what could be better- is Walking Pneumonia. Yes, Walking Pneumonia is the common term used for the milder version of the Pneumonia that which usually do not end up in a disability. Here you could still lead your life as normal.

This mild attack is caused by bacteria and hence also know as Atypical form of Pneumonia. This condition is widely noticed in school age children.

The symptoms can be annoying and prolong for as long as a month. Normally it starts with dry coughs and some pain while breathing in the lungs. As time passes, the coughs may become deep, and you may experience headaches with coughs. Abdominal pain and chills are also other common signs.

All these symptoms may last for a long time. While some people also feel dizzy and loose their appetite, others complain of diarrhea. If you are showing these signs, its a good ideas to avoid driving and stay safe. If you see coughs with mucus or blood, then it is a symptoms of severe Walking Pneumonia.

With children, they are usually playing around with the cough even after recovering from a fever and this is a typical case of Walking Pneumonia. It may start off like a common cold or flu and later get worse with fever and also sore throat in some kids. The symptoms seem to get bad during the night and take about a month to recover. However, even after the major symptoms are gone and feel that they are cured, some symptoms such as muscle pain, headache and chest pain along with cough lingers on for a while.

Even a rash with mycoplasma can cause Walking Pneumonia. Though it is not a lethal sickness, timely and adequate treatment is a must to save yourself getting any worse. It does respond well to medications and immediate medical help should be sought as soon as the symptoms show up.

These symptoms usually last for a long time. Some cases also feel loss of consciousness and hence driving is not advisable at this stage. Loss of appetite and diarrhea are the other combined symptoms. The severe form is when coughs come up with mucus or blood and the person is also throwing up.

In the case of children, it may start like a normal cold or flu. They start coughing which may get bad as time goes and turn into fever and sore throat. The night times are usually the peak times where coughing is really bad. Recovery is easy with medical attention, however complete recovery from muscle pain, headache and chest pain may take a while.

Be it a kid or adult, sometimes even just a rash with mycoplasma can also lead to Walking Pneumonia. It may not require any bed treatment, but immediate diagnosis followed by medical treatment is highly advisable as it may turn ugly if not taken care.

Romo Out Kitna In

The New York Giants seem to be in a heap of trouble. Tony Romo, their Pro Bowl Quarterback will be out of action for at least 6 to 8 weeks. This leaves the Giants in a pretty precarious position.

Romo sustained an on arena injury where he injured and broke his non-throwing left clavicle or collarbone. This happened when a New York Giant's linebacker piled on him and landed on top of him while taking him to the ground. The Cowboys can not afford to have their star quarterback out of action for this lengthy. It could spell doom for them and the couple of years has observed them endure sufficient.

With Romo Absent

Romo is still stunned with this unforeseen accident that has clouded his day and for proper now, his career. Contracts signed by these players make certain that an on field injury does not result in a lawsuit. Who knows how he will bounce back though? An accident attorney may possibly be hired only the if there has been a Grievous personal injury off the area Hotels or with malicious intent. In day-to-day life, an accident attorney is the one to go to when you have suffered injury due to no fault of your personal, at work or when you are driving a vehicle or each given that some individuals drive for a living. Romo can not approach an accident attorney for this on discipline play although. Tony Romo will be ruing this day if his team suffers any extra in forthcoming games.

Robust Time of year

Meanwhile, Jon Kitna appears ready to make hay while the sun shines in Romo's absence. Dallas Cowboy fans can just hope and pray that Jon Kitna's rustic abilities form up for the remaining video games or this season will not be salvaged.

Botulism – Causes, Symptoms And Treatment

Botulism is a rare but serious paralytic illness caused by a nerve toxin. It is happen due to the Clostridium botulinum.

There are three main kinds of botulism:

  • Foodborne botulism
  • Infant botulism
  • Wound botulism

All forms of botulism can be fatal and are considered medical emergencies. Foodborne botulism can be especially dangerous because many people can be poisoned by eating a contaminated food.

The types of foods involved in botulism vary according to food preservation and eating habits in different regions. Any food that is conducive to outgrowth and toxin production, that when processed allows spore survival, and is not subsequently heated before consumption can be associated with botulism. Almost any type of food that is not very acidic can support growth and toxin production by C. botulinum.

Botulinal toxin has been demonstrated in a considerable variety of foods, such as canned corn, peppers, green beans, soups, beets, asparagus, mushrooms, ripe olives, spinach, tuna fish, chicken and chicken livers and liver pate, and luncheon meats, ham, sausage, stuffed eggplant, lobster, and smoked and salted fish.

The symptoms are not caused by the organism itself, but by the toxin that the bacterium releases. They usually appear within 12 to 36 hours after exposure. Incidence of botulism is low, but the mortality rate is high if treatment is not immediate and proper.

Early symptoms of botulism include:

  • Double or Blurred Vision
  • Drooping Eyelids
  • Slurred Speech
  • Trouble Swallowing
  • Dry Mouth
  • Muscle Weakness
  • Constipation
  • Lethargy
  • Poor Feeding
  • Poor Muscle Tone
  • Paralysis of the respiratory muscles

If diagnosed early, the severity of food-borne botulism can be reduced by:

  • Inducing vomiting or using enemas to remove any contaminated food remaining in the gut
  • Administration of horse serum antitoxin to neutralize botulinum toxin circulating in the blood but not yet attached to nerve endings

The progression of wound botulism also may be halted through use of:

  • Horse Serum Antitoxin
  • Surgical Treatment of the Wound to Remove the Bacteria
  • Infant botulism cannot be treated with horse serum antitoxin, because of the risk of severe allergic reaction.
  • Whether or not antitoxin is administered, full recovery from severe botulism requires weeks or months of intensive medical and nursing care, including mechanical ventilation if necessary.
  • Over weeks or months, new nerve endings are able to grow and the paralysis is reversed.
  • Fatigue and shortness of breath may persist for years after recovery.

Patients suffering from wound botulism should receive equine antibiotics such as penicillin. If you’re having trouble breathing, you will probably need to use a ventilator.
