Type 2 Diabetes – Are You Asking Yourself the Right Questions Where Your Health Is Concerned?

No matter your age, sex, or personal background, your health is a prime concern. I hope you have realized this already, which means you have been prompted to act in certain ways. Or, perhaps you are still unaware maintaining your well-being is crucial as you age.

There comes a time to ask yourself the right questions. Questions that will shed light as to where your health currently stands and give you a perspective on your future. Health is the number one thing many of us take for granted, which can be a lamentable source of regret no one should be forced to endure. Many people get a surprise when the doctor hands them a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis.

Below are some questions you ought to ask yourself if you haven’t already…

1. Am I happy with my body? This one is not merely based on appearance. Your weight may be a factor affecting your self-esteem but much more is in play. Are you discontent with your body weight? It is undeniably true being overweight poses concerns often disregarded or overlooked. These fears are legitimate because of your weight, particularly your body composition, is a primary factor in determining the quality of your well-being.

2. Am I eating properly? Unfortunately, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” as you have heard almost all your life, is not enough. You likely need to eat more fruits and vegetables than you think. But you also need a proper balance of nutrients, which is rarely mentioned. Complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and healthy fat sources should be your staples because they are essentials.

3. Is my hunger under control? You are going to be hungry sometimes: it is inevitable. But are you able to tame it? The No. 1 reason obesity is an epidemic in modern society is due to a lack of self-discipline towards hunger. It is not always easy to resist a nagging appetite, but the ability to resist is a must if you are to be healthy. Type 2 diabetes is another common disease that surfaces when an appetite is not controlled.

4. Am I physically active? This is a yes or no question. If you are not currently physically active, you are either making excuses or not aware exercise is necessary to maintain a healthy body. As mentioned earlier, you don’t want to regret your poor health choices so do not allow a present mistake to undermine your future. Get active, and enjoy the benefits of living a physically active lifestyle.

5. How is my health today? Many wait until the last minute before assessing where their health stands. Do not make the same mistake. Get a check-up if you haven’t had one recently. You may not know it, but it could save you. As Type 2 diabetes develops, it announces itself in all kinds of ways, some of them subtle and others are really in your face.

By asking yourself the right questions, you can steer your health in the best direction.

In The Quran: Allah Celebrated The Creation Of Adam

Who is cursed in Bible vs. Quran-1?

This is the first article of the series: “Who is cursed in Bible versus Quran”

In the Bible the Lord God says that the earth and the serpent are cursed.

The Earth is Cursed because of Adam; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for Adam to eat; the serpent is cursed because of Eve and it will eat dust.

In the Quran, Allah has cursed Iblis (Satan or the Devil).

Who is cursed in the Bible? (1)

The following verses, Genesis 3: 1, 11-18, which talks about Adam and Eve, reveals some interesting facts; they are:

1-     God has cursed the Earth and the serpent

2-     The serpent is the craftiest animal and is the cause of Eve’s fall

3-     Eve is the cause of Adam’s fall

4-     Man rules over woman

5-     The serpent eats dust

6-     Adam was essentially vegetarian.

The verses Genesis 3: 1, 11-18 say:

The serpent is deceitful and skillful in evil schemes; it is craftier than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. The serpent said to Eve, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

God said unto Adam, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I have commanded you not to eat from?”

Adam said unto the Lord God, “The woman (Eve) whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.”

The Lord God said to Eve, “What is this you have done?” Eve said, “The serpent deceived and beguiled me, and I ate.”

God said unto the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

God said unto Eve, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

The Lord God said unto Adam, “Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat of it,’ “Cursed is the ground (the Earth) because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it (the Earth) all the days of your life; thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.”

Who is cursed in the Quran? (1)

The following verses, 15:26-44, which talks about Adam’s creation, reveals some interesting facts; they are:

1-     Allah created the jinn before the creation of Adam

2-     Allah created Adam of black mud that stinks; this indicates that the Bacteria (stinks) were mixed with the clay-Adam. These bacteria would form later on the normal body flora in the living-Adam.  This normal body flora comprises 60-70% of the immunity of any human being including Adam.

3-     Allah celebrated the creation of Adam by commanding the Angels to prostrate once the clay-Adam turns out to be the living Adam when Allah places the spirit into him. This prostration is the Angel’s greeting for Adam and it is a great honor for mankind.

4-     The Angels prostrated save the too proud Iblis (Satan) who was standing among the angels, watching Adam’s creation.

5- Then, there was a dialogue between Allah and Satan.

The verses 15:26-44 say:

Allah created the jinn before the creation of Adam of smokeless fire, of permeative fire that can escape through openings.

Allah created Adam of black mud that stinks.

Allah said to the angels, “Indeed I am going to create a mortal out of clay of black stinking mud”. “So, when I have proportioned him, when I created his hands, legs, eyes and the rest of him and I have breathed into him of My Spirit, so that he becomes a living thing, fall down in prostration before him!’

And so, the angels fell prostrate to Adam, all of them together. Except Iblis (Satan or the Devil), he was [standing] among the angels: he felt too proud and refused to be among those prostrating to Adam.

Then, there was a dialogue between Allah and Satan (Iblis):

Allah said: O Iblis! Why you are not among those prostrating? Why do you not prostrate to Adam?

Satan said: Why should I prostrate myself before a mortal whom you have created out of clay of black stinking mud; it is not becoming of me to prostrate to black stinking mud.

Allah said: ‘Then be gone from hence, that is, from standing among the angels — but it is also said, from the heavens — for you are indeed accursed, outcast, and banished from My mercy.  And indeed My curse and the curse of the angels and all created beings shall be upon you until the Day of Judgment, the Day of Requital.

Satan said: My Lord! Reprieve me until the day when they, mankind, shall be resurrected and are raised from the grave; the accursed did not wish to taste death.

Allah said: you are reprieved, you will be given respite. Till an appointed time, the time of the first blast of the Trumpet.

Satan said: ‘My Lord, because You have lead me astray I shall adorn for them all the evil acts in the earth and I shall lead all of them astray. Except those servants of Yours who are protected from me, who are sincerely devoted to You.

Allah said: The straight path leading to Me is the right and honored course.  Lo! As for My servants, the devoted believers, you shall have nether warrant nor power over them; except those who follow you from among the wicked, the disbelievers. And truly Hell shall be their destination; all those who follow and obey you shall be with you in Hell.

The Bible: Genesis 3: 1, 11-18 (English Standard Version)

1Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

11He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

14The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.

15I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”

16To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

17And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;

18thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.

The Quran: Verses 15:26-44 (Pickthal translation)

﴿26﴾ verily we created man of potter’s clay of black mud altered,

﴿27﴾and the jinn did we create aforetime of essential fire.

﴿28﴾ and (remember) when thy lord said unto the angels: lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter’s clay of black mud altered,

﴿29﴾ so, when I have made him and have breathed into him of my spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him.

﴿30﴾ so the angels fell prostrate, all of them together

﴿31﴾ save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate.

﴿32﴾ he said: o Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate?

﴿33﴾ he said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom thou hast created out of potter’s clay of black mud altered!

﴿34﴾ he (Allah)  said: then go thou forth from hence, for lo! Thou art outcast.

﴿35﴾ and lo! The curse shall be upon thee till the Day of Judgment.

﴿36﴾ he said: my lord! Reprieve me till the day when they are raised.

﴿37﴾ he said: then lo! Thou art of those reprieved

﴿38﴾ till the day of appointed time.

﴿39﴾ he said: my lord! Because thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one,

﴿40﴾﴾ save such of them as are thy perfectly devoted slaves.

﴿41﴾ he said: this is a right course incumbent upon me:

﴿42﴾ lo! As for my slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee,

﴿43﴾ and lo! For all such, hell will be the promised place.

The wisdom of Adam’ story in the Quran:

1) Before Allah has given Adam the spirit to live, the clay-Adam was stinking; and after the spirit leaves the man when he dies, he will stink again.

2) So, the man’s beginning was stinking and the man’s end is eventually stinking too.  The spirit provided by Allah is between the two man’ stink.

3) Our body is material + spirit.  We almost always give our material part its proper nourishment.  Also, our spirit part needs sustenance too by being connected to its Creator.  Unfortunately, most of us do not give their spirit part its proper nourishment; and that is why most us are not happy and will never ever be satisfied. Hence, the secret of happiness is in our spirit part.

4) It is Satan, not the serpent, who is our essential enemy.

5) In other verses of the Quran, both Adam and Eve ate from the tree at the same time; so Eve was not the cause of Adam’s fall.

Back to my question to the smart and interested reader:

Is the Quran quoted from the Bible?

Hypnotherapy As an Adjunct Therapy

Hypnosis forms the foundation of hypnotherapy. During hypnosis, the body of the subject relaxes and his or her thoughts become more focused. In this relaxed state, one will feel at ease physically yet fully awake mentally, and may be highly responsive to suggestion. Some people respond better to hypnotic suggestion than others.

A person in a deeply focused state is unusually responsive to an idea or image. But this does not mean that a hypnotist can control the person’s mind and free will.

Hypnotherapy –

With hypnotherapy, the hypnotherapist can regress the client to childhood to discover certain patterns and change them deep within the subconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy is a kind of psychotherapy that utilizes the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behavior. It aims to alter our state of consciousness so as to relax the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focusing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness, reached through skilled relaxation techniques, allows the therapist to make appropriate suggestions.

Hypnotherapy is widely endorsed as a treatment for habit breaking, stress related issues and for a range of long-term conditions. Hypnosis has the capacity to work for the majority of individuals but some are more susceptible to suggestions than others. It is important to remember that one must be fully committed to the process and have trust in the hypnotherapist as any skepticism may subconsciously dampen one’s susceptibility.

Uses of hypnotherapy –

Hypnotherapy can be an effective method for coping with stress and anxiety. In particular, hypnosis can reduce stress and anxiety before a medical procedure, such as a breast biopsy. Hypnotherapy has been studied for other conditions, including:

Pain control – Hypnotherapy may prove to be beneficial for pain associated with cancer, fibromyalgia, temporo-mandibular joint problems, dental procedures and headaches.

Gastro-intestinal disorders – It may help in ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, colitis, and Crohn’s disease.

Dermatologic disorders – Dermatologic disorders in which it may help include eczema, herpes, neurodermatitis, pruritus (itching), and psoriasis.

Allergies – It may also be beneficial in asthma.

Hot flashes – Hypnotherapy may be helpful to relieve symptoms of hot flashes associated with menopause.

Behavior change – Hypnotherapy has been used with some success in the treatment of insomnia, bed-wetting, smoking, obesity and phobias.

Fatigue – Hypnotherapy has been used to treat fatigue associated with radiotherapy in people with breast cancer.

Sleep disorder – It can effectively be employed in many people suffering from sleep disorders.

Grief and loss – It can help an individual to overcome grief as a result of loss of a beloved one.

Contraindications –

Hypnotherapy conducted by a trained therapist or health care professional is considered a safe, complementary and alternative medical treatment. However, hypnosis may not be appropriate in people with severe mental illness.

Hypnosis might not be appropriate for a person, who has psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, or for someone who is using drugs or alcohol. Hypnosis also poses a risk of creating false memories in some persons usually as a result of unintended suggestions made by the therapist. For this reason, the use of hypnosis for certain mental disorders, such as dissociative disorders, remains controversial.

Conclusion –

There is a scientific basis for hypnosis, which is unequivocally accepted by the experts. Hypnotherapy is now increasingly used by many as an adjunct in the treatment of some diseases. Besides that many experts of the modern medicine who deny its usefulness, it can effectively be used in pain control, hot flashes associated with menopause, behavior change, fatigue, sleep disorder, and anxiety and tension to the benefit of the person. On the contrary, hypnotherapy has a controversial role in the treatment of people with severe mental illnesses. Therefore, hypnotherapists must take due precautions in instituting hypnotherapy in patients suffering from mental illnesses in order to avoid precipitating their unnecessary symptoms.

Psoriasis – 2% Of The World's Population Affected!

Psoriasis [pronounced sore-EYE-ah-sis] is a noncontagious, lifelong skin disease and affects both sexes equally and can occur at any age, although it most commonly appears for the first time between the ages of 15 and 25 years. It is probably one of the longest known illnesses of humans and simultaneously one of the most misunderstood and is usually graded as mild (affecting less than 3% of the body), moderate (affecting 3-10% of the body) or severe. Psoriasis can also cause inflammation of the joints, which is known as psoriatic arthritis and has been shown to affect health-related quality of life to an extent similar to the effects of other chronic diseases such as depression, myocardial infarction, hypertension, congestive heart failure or type 2 diabetes.

While it does get worse over time; It is not possible to predict who will go on to develop extensive psoriasis or those in whom the disease may appear to vanish. Research continues to accelerate at a rapid pace and will continue to advance our knowledge of what causes this disease.

Research shows that the signs and symptoms of psoriasis usually appear between 15 and 35 years of age and often disappear (go into remission), even without treatment, and then return (flare up). Controlling the signs and symptoms typically requires life long therapy. Symptoms can vary from person to person but may include one or more of the following: Red patches of skin covered with silvery scales, Small scaling spots (commonly seen in children,), Dry, cracked skin that may bleed, Itching, burning or soreness , Thickened, pitted or ridged nails, Swollen and stiff joints. Additional symptoms may include: Genital lesions in males, Joint pain or aching (psoriatic arthritis), Nail changes, including yellow-brown spots, dents (pits) on the nail surface, and separation of the nail from the base. About 10 percent of people with psoriasis have joint inflammation that produces symptoms of arthritis.

Most report a decrease in illness severity during the summer months or periods of increased sun exposure; however, a small minority find that their symptoms are aggravated by strong sunlight, and these individuals actually experience a worsening of their disease in the summer. Call your health care provider if you have symptoms or if the skin irritation continues despite treatment.

There are many treatments available that work wonders for one victim but have no effect or benefit for another. They range from local (cortisone cream application, emollients, coal tar, anthralin preparations, and sun exposure) to systemic (internal medications, including methotrexate and cyclosporine). As a first step, medicated ointments or creams, called topical treatments, are applied to the skin. Treatments for more general or advanced psoriasis include UV-A light, psoralen plus UV-A light (PUVA), retinoids (eg, isotretinoin [Accutane], acitretin [Soriatane]), infliximab (Remicade), etanercept (Enbrel), and alefacept (Amevive).

National Psoriasis Foundation

The National Psoriasis Foundation is an excellent organization that provides support to patients with psoriasis. The Foundation reports that 56 million work hours are lost each year by those who have the disease. Additionally, a survey conducted by the Foundation in 2002 indicates that 26% of people living with moderate to severe psoriasis have been forced to change or discontinue their normal daily activities. The Foundation estimates that between 10% to 30% of The affected people also have psoriatic arthritis. Internationally, plaque psoriasis is universal in its occurrence and varies with race, geography, and environmental factors (eg, sun exposure).

Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes itchy or sore patches of thick, red skin with silvery scales and is a chronic, meaning lifelong, condition because there is currently no cure. It may be one of the oldest recorded skin conditions and can last a long time, even a lifetime. It is known to affect approximately 2% of the world's population and is rare among people with dark skin. Psoriasis has been known about for at least five thousand years and if any particular nutrient had been proved to be beneficial surely we would all have heard about it by now.

Grass Fungus – Tips to Identify and Remove Grass Fungus in Your Yard

There are several types of grass fungus that unfortunately most home owners will have to battle with from time to time. Sadly, there is not just one effective technique to eliminate grass fungus, but several depending on which type your lawn currently has. However, there are some general tips you can use when combating these lawn diseases, and learn how to identify which ones your yard is battling.

Most Common Types of Grass Fungus:

Snow Mold:
This type of disease gets its name from the fact that it usually crops up after snow starts melting in certain climates. It's actually always present in most lawns, it just needs a certain environment in order to grow. In this case, very cold (below freezing) is where this disease thrives, which is generally the condition under compacted snow.

These patches are about the size of a dinner plate, but can be larger. Around the edges you should be able to see a faint gray or pink fungal growth. Avoid stepping on your yard during the winter months so that snow does not become compacted. As well, as temperatures rise, snow mold can not survive. So it's best just to wait it out if you have an infection.

Brown Patch:
This is one of the most destructive of grass fungus, and it thrives in very hot weather. This is thanks to the humidity and heat adding extra stress on your lawn.

It appears as large circular brown spots on your yard and can often be identified by a dark ring around the outer edges.

Do not mow during very hot days so as not to add even more stress, or risk spreading this disease, as well avoid fast releasing nitrogen fertilizer as it will add even more stress.

Finally, be sure to give the areas lots of light by pruning overhanging branches and moving things that are blocking its light.

Dollar Spot:
Like Brown Patch, Dollar Spot enjoys warm climates and grows when it's very hot outside. If you have Dollar Spots, they will appear as little circles of gray or silver. If you look closer at the edges of the grass blades, you will also be able to notice an hour glass shaped brown or red edge.

Low soil moisture is one of the most common reasons why this type of fungus grows. Be sure to adequately water your lawn.

Low nitrogen levels also play a big part in Dollar Spot growth. Use a well balanced fertilizer in the affected areas to help raise those levels.

Fairy Ring:
Some people actually like the look of Fairy Rings. These can be very tough to get rid of and appear thanks to a couple of different fungi. However, the treatment is the same.

Fairy Rings appear as a large dark circle, or a circle of mushrooms around the affected area. They are created thanks to fungi threads under the soil that starve your grass and kill it by taking away its nutrients.

If the Fairy Ring contains toadstools, cut them from their base and burn them. As well, mow the affected area of the lawn separately from the rest of your lawn. That is, once you've mowed the affected area, gather the grass clippings and burn them so you do not spread the spores.

Probably the best method when dealing with these is to actually dig up the lawn where the roots are, and destroy them while reseeding / sodding / turfing the area that you've dug up. It's a lot of work, but once these are there, even a good fungicide might not help much.

When’s the Best Time to Go Out on Picnics?

During times of stress and worry families tend to focus on their financial troubles rather than spending quality time together. Picnics are a great inexpensive way to have a time out and really appreciate the great things life has to offer.

It has been proven that we are often at our most receptive and positive when we are relaxed and surrounded by the people we love. The summer months offer an excellent opportunity to spend quality time with your family and get outside for a delicious picnic. But even when the weather’s a little cloudy finding the perfect spot for your picnic will ensure memories that will stay with you for a lifetime.

Being spontaneous is always the best way to prepare for your picnic. But a little planning is always a good thing.

First, think about a good location that may offer shelter if the weather does take a turn for the worst. During sunny days try to take something that will provide shade for the picnickers. Try not to choose a spot that is too far away; remember this is supposed to be a relaxing experience for all involved.

Make a list of snacks that are cheap and easy to prepare. Finger or fork food is the way forward and is rarely eaten hot at picnics. Rice, salad, pasta and quiches are a sure success; always try to check if any of your guests have food allergies. Most foods need to be eaten within an hour of being taken out of the fridge so try not to take too much food. Try to take something to cover the food to keep it protected from the heat and any insects like an insulated picnic bag. It’s always recommended to throw items that have not been kept cool on your return home.

Follow this by writing down the articles you may need to take with you. Be sure to take clothes and napkins, coolers, plastic cups and plates as well as forks and spoons. Take folding chairs for people who are unable to get up from the ground easily and umbrellas for shade and shelter. Take a large plastic bag where you can put your garbage and make sure that you dispose of it responsibly. Make sure you bring sun block and insect repellent as well as an antibacterial gel for your hands and remember your camera!

Get the kids involved and think about what you might need to make your picnic more enjoyable. Ask your kids would they would like to do and however crazy it might be give it a go. Take some games with you that both children and adults can play, adventure trails and team games are always fun.

Remember to dress appropriately to ensure that you and your fellow picnickers are able to relax and join in the fun. Once your all set up and ready for your picnic, make sure you haven’t forgotten once last thing- relax.

What Sleep Deprivation Can Do to You

Sleep deprivation is classified as the lack of adequate sleep to function properly and can occur because of deliberate acts, medical reasons, or as a result of a sleep disorder. Being deprived of sleep can have many negative effects on the physical and mental health of the person affected and the effects can linger for a long period of time. It is very important for a person to get the right amount of sleep each day to prevent the effects of this sleep disorder from occurring.

Sleep deprivation can create problems in many areas of the body and the effects will only get worse the longer the person has been denied proper sleep. The body can experience muscle fatigue, pallor of the skin, nausea, muscle tremors, significant weight gain or loss, and a weakened immune system. The eyes may experience blurred vision, dark circles beneath the eyes, color blindness, or involuntary eye ticks.

Sleep deprivation has been known to cause dizziness, fainting, headaches, irritability, and slurred speech. If the lack of sleep continues, memory loss, confusion, loss of concentration, hallucinations, and clinical depression can occur. Lengthy cases of this particular sleep disorder have been known to result in psychotic episodes, which may or may not disappear once the person resumes their normal sleeping patterns.

The inadequate rest associated with sleep deprivation can impair a person’s ability to think, to control their emotions, to react to external stimuli, and to handle everyday stresses. If the deprivation persists, it may even result in the person’s death. Studies have shown that lab rats that were deprived of sleep all died within three weeks because their bodies could not handle the effects of constantly being deprived of sleep for extended periods of time.

Cases of sleep deprivation that occur naturally and not as a result of some external stimuli often affect older people and senior citizens at some point in their lives. The older we become, the more susceptible we become to sleeping disorders that may result in long periods of not being able to get asleep. It is estimated that more than half of people over the age of 64 across the nation suffer from some type of sleeping disorder and experience long periods of simply not being able to sleep enough to be rested properly.

Younger people are less likely to experience sleep deprivation, but are more likely to be adversely affected by it quickly. In these people, the effects of this sleep disorder appear to resemble drunkenness, with delayed reaction times, slurred speech, and marked dizziness. Testing has shown that people that get behind the wheel of a car after experiencing a period of being deprived of sleep are worse drivers than people that are legally drunk under the law. This specific sleep disorder can have many different effects on the body and not a single one of them is pleasant to experience or simple to reverse.

How To Help Someone With Depression Who Refuses Help

It can be very frustrating when someone close to us is suffering from depression or a related mental illness, and yet refuses to seek or accept any sort of help or treatment for their condition. Many people feel helpless or powerless when someone they care about is depressed and yet refuses to accept any kind of help. This article is intended to help people who are put in the position where someone dear to them is suffering from depression but does not seem open to any suggestions of therapy, counseling, or other types of help.

In many cases, there are quite a few simple things that you can do that will help a person to recover from depression, even if that person seems to refuse to seek treatment or accept any sort of help. Depression is complex, and there is often no quick-fix, but there are a few straightforward pieces of advice that, if followed, can make it much more likely that you will actually be able to help out a person who is struggling with depression.

Take care of yourself first:

One of the core defining features of depression is that a depressed person has both a negative self-image and often, a negative image of the world, which can include other people. A depressed person does not believe in themselves and their own abilities, and often, may seem to hold or act out a negative view of other people around them. When a person seems irritable or mistrustful, it can be helpful to make a note that the person’s actions are more a result of their overwhelming negative mood, and not any deeper qualities.

Do not take it personally when you try to help someone who is depressed and yet they refuse or react negatively. You cannot control how a person is going to respond, but you can control your own actions and your own interpretation of the situation. If you tell yourself a narrative that involves negative statements about the person, like “They are being so rude or insensitive.” or “They don’t want help, I am never going to be able to help them.” then you will just get upset, dragged down with this person’s depression, and this will make it much harder for you to help them. Instead try to brush it off by making your internal dialogue more empowering: “They must be under a lot of stress or dealing with a lot of pain if they would act that way towards me.” or “Maybe this is not the best time or place to bring this subject up; perhaps I can try again later or find a more gentle way of broaching the subject.” With these interpretations, you will protect your own emotional well-being, and you will also remain more empowered to help the person out later.

Be cautious of recommending therapy to a person:

Although therapy or counseling can be one of the most powerful and effective ways of treating or overcoming depression, bringing up the subject of therapy to a depressed person can sometimes be difficult. Understanding why this is the case is important, even critical, if you want to actually help someone who is struggling with depression.

Unfortunately, the practice of seeing a counselor often carries a negative stigma in our society. The implication is that a person would only need therapy if they were “messed up”, “crazy”, or unable to cope with things on their own. Some people identify the act of seeking therapy with helplessness and mental instability, and depressed people are more likely to make this identification, as they are likely feeling rather helpless or unstable themselves. If you bring up the topic of counseling or therapy, make sure to do it in such a way that does not imply that the person is crazy, messed up, or unable to cope with their problems.

Help the person to believe in themselves first, before suggesting counseling:

Ultimately, you will be most able to help someone who is depressed if you help that person to believe more in their ability to help themselves. This belief is also an important foundation to successful outcomes of counseling: if a person believes that they are unable to help themselves, they may easily transfer this to believing that a counselor is also unable to help them. Counseling does not provide a quick fix or instant solution to depression or other psychological problems. Counselors do not help people through therapy as much as they enable and empower people to help themselves. The best way to bring up the topic of counseling is to emphasize first that the person is fundamentally okay and that they are going to be able to solve their problems in the end. Then, you can suggest counseling as a way of helping make this process easier–never presenting it as necessary or as a crutch that a person will be dependent on or hopeless without.

Help through more general means:

Continuing on the theme that the best way to help a depressed person is to help them believe in themselves, there are numerous other things you can do, besides encouraging them to seek help, which can help them to overcome their depression. The simplest, deepest, and best thing that you can do is to show them that you love and appreciate them, through both your actions and words. Depressed people often feel trapped in loneliness and a sense of worthlessness; it is a lot harder to feel worthless when people are telling you and showing you that they appreciate you. By checking in on someone, inviting them to do things, eating with them, and telling them the things that you appreciate about them, you can make it a little easier for that person to overcome depression. Remember, though, that in the end, their responsibility for their own health and happiness lies with them alone, and yours with you.

Though it is rarely referred to as a pet, a Rubber Boa is most definitely an interesting creature, and in my own opinion, it is the best snake that a person can have, especially for a first pet snake. Everything about a Rubber Boa Snake is easy from their temperament, care, feeding, and hygiene. Most snakes are a pet to be observed but not to be played with. Rubber Boas are the type of pet that a person can interact with, as they enjoy the warmth from a hand and will curl up on one for hours. The feeling is mutual, as a humans hand enjoys the soft feel of these docile serpents.

What Makes a Rubber Boa So Great?

1. Interactive: Rubber Boas will be a pet that you can hold, touch, be held by, and not be afraid that it is going to get away while playing with it. They are rather slow and will prefer to hang out on a warm hand any day and stay there for a long time. The feel of their skin is much like their name, Rubber, but even softer than that.

2. Appealing: Rubber Boas have been used as a form of treatment for snake phobias in several cases. While most snakes are fast and quick to bite, these Boas are slow, docile, and almost never bite (I have never seen nor heard of one biting, but it could happen). If they are to bite a person, it will be harmless and most likely painless. The one thing that impresses me most of these snakes is their soft texture, which is why they are called a Rubber Boa.

3. Easy to Care For: Rubber Boas are very easy to take care of. They do best in an area that has similarities to their native range which is mostly limited to the Northwestern U.S. and Southwestern Canada. They can be found in both arid forests to the rainforests of the coast. Their temperature preference is between 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, such as room temperature in a home, and need a decent size dish of water for them to soak in. The only cleaning necessary is switching out the water once it had been defecated in.

4. Easy to Feed: Rubber Boas eat primarily on young rodents in the wild while fending off the parents with their blunt tail. Therefore it is best to feed them pink mice, and several at a time. They are known to binge feed and then not eat for a month or two. That is why they will eat several in one setting.

A Rubber Boa has many benefits over other snakes. Here is a list of just a few as well as the one negative.

• Interactive: easy to hold
• Soft to touch
• Slow moving
• Won’t Bite
• Safe around children
• Easy to care for
• Long life span: 15-25 years

• Hard to find in the wild and hard to find for sale.

While there are not too many bad things about this species of snake, the biggest downside is the lack of places to buy a Rubber Boa. I will keep an eye out and list any links I can find that sale them. The ones that I have had, I have caught on the road at dusk as I live in the Northern Idaho where they are common to find. They are incredible hiders and I have never seen one anywhere except for on the road. I would not attempt to go looking for them though as many times where they live is also areas that you may find rattlesnakes, unless of course you are in to that type of thing.

Yeast Infection Mouth Treatment – Finding an Effective Cure

Getting a yeast infection in your mouth is commonly referred to as thrush, which is a very painful infection to endure. Thrush is more commonly related to babies, but adults can also get a yeast infection in their mouth as a result of antibiotics, an excess of sugar in the mouth, which can be caused by diabetes, or a weakened immune system due to illness, chemotherapy, or AIDS.

The obvious symptoms of thrush make it easy to recognize, but it does signify that something in your body is out of order, and you should consult a doctor about it.

– Thrush has several symptoms that you should be aware of.

– One symptom is a painful mouth, incuding the tongue, roof of the mouth, and the sides.

– You may experience a sore throat.

– It is also common to see white patches inside your lips and mouth.

– A yeast infection mouth treatment is easy to come by and you can usually find what you need in your kitchen.

Yogurt is a very effective way for an adult to fight a yeast infection, but be sure to buy yogurt that contains live cultures or bacterias. Put a table spoon of yogurt in your mouth and hold it there for at least five minutes to allow the good bacteria found in the yogurt to fight the yeast. This should be done four times each day. Not only will the cool yogurt soothe the painful thrush, but it will also help in the healing process.

You can also use garlic as an effective yeast infection mouth treatment. All you need to do is crush and swallow a clove of garlic. This should be done three to four times each day. If your nursing baby has thrush, as a mother, when you eat the crushed garlic, it will be present in your breast milk, and your baby can benefit from it.

For mouth yeast infections, there are very few things that can prevent them from occurring. If you maintain a healthy body, you will be able to fight an oral yeast infection easier and the severity of the infection may be decreased. Make sure that your diet is high in vitamin C and essential nutrients to give you strength, and limit your intake of yeast. Living an active lifestyle will help you maintain your health and decrease stress levels which may also cause infections. Try to add yogurt with live cultures and acidophilus supplements to your daily routine to help fight against yeast infections and remember that you can always find a yeast infection mouth treatment in your kitchen.

There is a surefire natural treatment that is guaranteed to get rid of any type of yeast infection in less than 12 hours. If you have been desperately searching for an effective yeast infection cure then you need to read this important message – Click Here Now

Life Lessons From a Slob

I have a confession. Being neat and tidy… organized… doesn’t come easily to me. I have to work at it. That’s why I know so much about it.

I used to say – defensively – that I was too busy having a life to spend my time cleaning. The thing that I didn’t realize was that life is so much better when you can see the floor. For some reason it’s easier to walk on. That is a good metaphor in general.

In letting chaos abound around me, and finally climbing out, I realized a few key lessons that had been in the making. Here are a few things that took me too long figure out…

1. The faster you go, the less you live. I have this theory that people rush and hurry because of an inner fear of dying before they get to live. Before they can get it all done. Guess what. Skimming through to get to the next thing takes the enjoyment and the experience out of everything. Slow down and take the scenic route. Don’t just live your life. Feel it.

2. Less really is more. In almost any area. Less to look after means more time to enjoy it. More time to do it better. More time to appreciate what you have.

3. Life is in the clear spaces. Room to breathe. Breath is the stuff of life. Take a deep one.

4. Things will always be there. Always more to do. People on the other hand will fade away. Time spent with people is never a waste of time.

5. Getting clear on the inside is a matter of deciding to do it. Nothing is important enough to carry around, taking space from the good things life brings. It’s always your choice. Minute by minute.

Have you ever thought, I’ll get to it after I get this mess under control, having no idea when that actually will be? If that’s the case, start living today. Dedicate one hour per day to get the clutter and the mess out and letting your life shine in.

Bottom line? Hiding behind clutter comes easy, but living in clear spaces is more fun. Don’t waste another day.

Let today amaze you.

Do You Have a Problem With Yeast? Pregnancy Can Make it Worse

It is one of those facts that women tend to suffer more from these kinds of infections during pregnancy. So, yes, yeast pregnancy is a problem. As our bodies change, the level of estrogen increases, resulting in an excessive production of a sugar known as Glycogen in the vagina. As you can imagine, this is an ideal breeding ground for Candida.

The cause of this infection is an overgrowth of the fungus called Candida Albicans. This happens when the fungus that is always in our bodies, starts to grow uncontrolled. This is when the factors that normally control it, is not present any more or in smaller amounts because of different factors. There are many factors that can cause this and pregnancy is one of them as I’ve mentioned above. This can be the cause of considerable discomfort and many women are afraid that medication may harm their unborn child. Fortunately there is a lot you can do to improve the situation.

What can aggravate yeast pregnancy?

I think it is a good idea to think about the things you can do to help you with your infection:

  1. Wear only cotton underwear; do not even consider all those fancy, pretty lacy things, they are sure to bring along an attack!
  2. Do not use any bubble bath or bath oil as it is known to make things worse or even start an infection
  3. If it is at all possible it is best to take only showers, if a shower is not available do not take a prolonged bath, get in, wash yourself and get out!
  4. Use white unscented soap, none of the “health” or “anti-bacterial” stuff, it kills the “good” bacteria with the “bad” and then the fungus can grow uncontrolled
  5. Make sure you dry yourself properly for the same reason it is not and good idea to stay in wet clothes for long periods
  6. Do not wear any tight clothing, warm and dark places provide ideal conditions for the Candida to thrive
  7. Do not stay in a wet bathing suit for long periods, change immediately after your swim
  8. Eat lots of yogurt as it contains the “good” bacteria that helps keep the Candida fungus under control
  9. Try and cut out all sugar as it is excellent food for the fungus to grow on
  10. The same goes for starches and especially bread as it contains yeast that makes matters worse, when it comes to carbs give preference to non-wheat carbohydrates and whole grains
  11. Try and eat as healthy as possible and cut out as much fast food and convenience food as possible, rather have lots of fresh veggies and low fat proteins

These are some of the measures you can take to try and ease yeast, pregnancy. To get rid of it completely, you will have to take a holistic approach that includes a lot more. Get yourself a good e-book about it and control your yeast during pregnancy the healthy way.

Horseback Riding – Stay Safe and Have Fun

Horseback riding is a high risk sport. Besides the obvious danger of falling off, horses are large animals weighing in excess of 1,000 pounds and should always be treated with respect and handled with safety precautions in mind. If you are smart around horses and observe safety precautions, it's no more dangerous than any other high-risk activity.

Keep Visitors and Children Safe

When visitors and especially children are around horses, they often do not have any idea about the nature of horses or how to remain safe. It's the owner's obligation to educate them on safety precautions around horses.

Because equines are prey animals, and large ones at that, they are naturally extremely aware of their surrounds at all times. They will, as a matter of instinct, protect themselves when things happen that surprise them or that they do not understand. One big mistake people who are unfamiliar with horses make is to stand behind the horse, usually about 6 feet behind, as a matter of fact. This is the perfect distance for getting nailed right in the head by a flying hoof. Explain to them that if they are going to stand or walk behind a horse it should be directly behind it, with a hand on its rump so the horse knows they are there.

Horse are like any other beings – they have different personalities and temperaments. Some will bite, others would not dream of it. Did you know a finger has about the same crunchiness ratio as a carrot? It's way too easy to get a finger in the way when offering a carrot if a person does not know what they're doing. If your visitors want to offer treats, teach them how to hold it before offering it to the horse.

Remind parents that riding stables are not playgrounds, and children should not be allowed to run around startling the horses, which may then rear, bolt, or kick. A few friendly words of explanation about proper behavior around horses will go a long way in avoiding trouble.

Riding Helmets

Although Western riders in particular fight wearing them, it's only sensible to wear a helmet when riding. We are only given one brain, and when that one has been injured it can be a long road to recovery, if recovery is even possible. To truly abide by the safety rules, they should be worn at all times when around horses.

Helmets come in a variety of designs and styles, for both English and Western riders. It's important to find one that fits correctly and is comfortable. Ask for help at the tack shop, as they will hopefully have attended a hat fitting course and can advise you. Although a helmet will not always prevent serious injury or death, it will certainly put the odds in the rider's favor.

If the helmet ever suffers a severe impact it is very important that it be replaced. Some manufacturers will replace them free of charge or for a lower price if one of their helmets has been impacted in an equine mishap. Prices start at around $ 35 and go up from there. This is a small price to pay to keep your brain safe.

Over time the protective padding in a helmet compresses with use, and the helmet will become looser. If this happens, the helmet should be replaced as soon as possible, as it will not protect the head as well as it should in an accident. It's often a legal requirement that children must wear a riding helmet that conforms to standards when riding a horse.

Riding Boots

It's extremely important to wear proper footwear when riding or working around horses. The fact is a rider can sustain serious injuries or even death when falling from a horse if a foot gets stuck in the stirrup. Riding boots or shoes are essential … they are designed so that the heel will stop the foot from sliding through the stirrup.

There are a number of different types of riding boots and shoes available. Riders can choose from short boots (jodhpur boots), full length boots, lightweight riding shoes, and cowboy boots. Often it's most comfortable to wear a short pair of boots or riding shoes along with half chaps, which prevent stirrup leathers from rubbing and bruising the rider's legs. Riders should never ride a horse in trainers or running shoes – with no heel they can slip right through the stirrups. They are no protection when a the horse steps on a human foot, either. Ouch!

Buy Quality Tack

Buying quality tack from the outset will means you will get good leather that will stand the test of time. Cheap tack means poor product quality and an increased chance of failure. No one wants to fall from a horse or have an accident because of poor quality equipment. It should be checked and cleaned on a regular basis so problems can be spotted immediately. Leather tack needs to be kept supple and strong with regular cleaning and conditioning. The stitching should be check to make sure there are no weak points.

Adhering to safety standards, buying good quality tack and equipment, and keeping your wits about you at all times will go a long way towards ensuring that the time you spend around horses will be enjoyable.

States of Process

States of Process
Operating Systems-Concerns!

In computing, a Process is an instance of a computer program that is being sequentially executed by a computer system that has the ability to run several computer programs concurrently.
A computer program itself is just a passive collection of instructions, while a process is the actual execution of those instructions. Several processes may be associated with the same program; for example, opening up several windows of the same program typically means more than one process is being executed.
In the computing world, processes are formally defined by the operating system(s) running them and so may differ in detail from one OS to another.
A single computer processor executes only one instruction at a time, one after the other. To allow users to run several programs at once (e.g., so that processor time is not wasted waiting for input from a resource), single-processor computer systems can perform time-sharing. Time-sharing allows processes to switch between being executed and waiting (to continue) to be executed. In most cases this is done very rapidly, providing the illusion that several processes are executing ‘at once’. (This is known as concurrency or multiprogramming.) Using more than one physical processor on a computer, permits true simultaneous execution of more than one stream of instructions from different processes, but time-sharing is still typically used to allow more than one process to run at a time. (Concurrency is the term generally used to refer to several independent processes sharing a single processor; simultaneity is used to refer to several processes, each with their own processor.) Different processes may share the same set of instructions in memory (to save storage), but this is not known to any one process. Each execution of the same set of instructions is known as an instance— a completely separate instantiation of the program.
For security reasons most modern operating systems prevent direct communication between ‘independent’ processes, providing strictly mediated and controlled inter-process communication functionality.

Sub-processes and multithreading:
process may split itself into multiple ‘daughter’ sub-processes or threads that execute in parallel, running different instructions on much of the same resources and data (or, as noted, the same instructions on logically different resources and data).
Multithreading is useful when various ‘events’ are occurring in an unpredictable order, and should be processed in another order than they occur, for example based on response time constraints. Multithreading makes it possible for the processing of one event to be temporarily interrupted by an event of higher priority. Multithreading may result in more efficient CPU time utilization, since the CPU may switch to low-priority tasks while waiting for other events to occur.
For example, a word processor could perform a spell check as the user types, without “freezing” the application – a high-priority thread could handle user input and update the display, while a low-priority background process runs the time-consuming spell checking utility. This results in that the entered text is shown immediately on the screen, while spelling mistakes are indicated or corrected after a longer time.
Multithreading allows a server, such as a web server, to serve requests from several users concurrently. Thus, we can avoid that requests are left unheard if the server is busy with processing a request. One simple solution to that problem is one thread that puts every incoming request in a queue, and a second thread that processes the requests one by one in a first-come first-served manner. However, if the processing time is very long for some requests (such as large file requests or requests from users with slow network access data rate), this approach would result in long response time also for requests that do not require long processing time, since they may have to wait in queue. One thread per request would reduce the response time substantially for many users and may reduce the CPU idle time and increase the utilization of CPU and network capacity. In case the communication protocol between the client and server is a communication session involving a sequence of several messages and responses in each direction (which is the case in the TCP transport protocol used in for web browsing), creating one thread per communication session would reduce the complexity of the program substantially, since each thread is an instance with its own state and variables.
In a similar fashion, multi-threading would make it possible for a client such as a web browser to communicate efficiently with several servers concurrently.
A process that has only one thread is referred to as a single-threaded process, while a process with multiple threads is referred to as a multi-threaded process. Multi-threaded processes have the advantage over multi-process systems that they can perform several tasks concurrently without the extra overhead needed to create a new process and handle synchronised communication between these processes. However, single-threaded processes have the advantage of even lower overhead.

In general, a computer system process consists of (or is said to ‘own’) the following resources:
• An image of the executable machine code associated with a program.
• Memory (typically some region of virtual memory); which includes the executable code, process-specific data (input and output), a call stack (to keep track of active subroutines and/or other events), and a heap to hold intermediate computation data generated during run time.
• Operating system descriptors of resources that are allocated to the process, such as file descriptors (Unix terminology) or handles (Windows), and data sources and sinks.
• Security attributes, such as the process owner and the process’ set of permissions (allowable operations).
• Processor state (context), such as the content of registers, physical memory addressing, etc. The state is typically stored in computer registers when the process is executing, and in memory otherwise.[2]
The operating system holds most of this information about active processes in data structures called process control blocks (PCB).
Any subset of resources, but typically at least the processor state, may be associated with each of the process’ threads in operating systems that support threads or ‘daughter’ processes.

The operating system keeps its processes separated and allocates the resources they need so that they are less likely to interfere with each other and cause system failures (e.g., deadlock or thrashing). The operating system may also provide mechanisms for inter-process communication to enable processes to interact in safe and predictable ways.
Process management in Multitasking Operating Systems:
A multitasking* operating system may just switch between processes to give the appearance of many processes executing concurrently or simultaneously, though in fact only one process can be executing at any one time on a single-core CPU (unless using multi-threading or other similar technology).[3]
It is usual to associate a single process with a main program, and ‘daughter’ (‘child’) processes with any spin-off, parallel processes, which behave like asynchronous subroutines. A process is said to own resources, of which an image of its program (in memory) is one such resource. (Note, however, that in multiprocessing systems, many processes may run off of, or share, the same reentrant program at the same location in memory— but each process is said to own its own image of the program.)

Processes are often called tasks in embedded operating systems. The sense of ‘process’ (or task) is ‘something that takes up time’, as opposed to ‘memory’, which is ‘something that takes up space’. (Historically, the terms ‘task’ and ‘process’ were used interchangeably, but the term ‘task’ seems to be dropping from the computer lexicon.)
The above description applies to both processes managed by an operating system, and processes as defined by process calculi.
If a process requests something for which it must wait, it will be blocked. When the process is in the Blocked State, it is eligible for swapping to disk, but this is transparent in a virtual memory system, where blocks of memory values may be really on disk and not in main memory at any time. Note that even unused portions of active processes/tasks (executing programs) are eligible for swapping to disk. All parts of an executing program and its data do not have to be in physical memory for the associated process to be active.*Tasks and processes refer essentially to the same entity. And, although they have somewhat different terminological histories, they have come to be used as synonyms. Today, the term process is generally preferred over task, except when referring to ‘multitasking’, since the alternative term, ‘multiprocessing’, is too easy to confuse with multiprocessor (which is a computer with two or more CPUs).

Process states:

Diagram showing CPU swith from process states
Processes go through various process states which determine how the process is handled by the operating system kernel. The specific implementations of these states vary in different operating systems, and the names of these states are not standardised, but the general high-level functionality is the same.
When a process is created, it needs to wait for the process scheduler (of the operating system) to set its status to “waiting” and load it into main memory from secondary storage device (such as a hard disk or a CD-ROM). Once the process has been assigned to a processor by a short-term scheduler, a context switch is performed (loading the process into the processor) and the process state is set to “running” – where the processor executes its instructions. If a process needs to wait for a resource (such as waiting for user input, or waiting for a file to become available), it is moved into the “blocked” state until it no longer needs to wait – then it is moved back into the “waiting” state. Once the process finishes execution, or is terminated by the operating system, it is moved to the “terminated” state where it waits to be removed from main memory

Inter-Process Communication:
Processes can communicate with each other via Inter-process communication (IPC). This is possible for both processes running on the same machine and on different machines. The subject is a difficult one to discuss concisely, because it differs considerably from one operating system (OS) to another. However, a useful way to approach it is to consider the general mechanisms used in one form or another by most OS and to recognize that any given OS will only employ some subset of that universe.

Motivational Quotes About Aspiration and Life

When you read a quotation from some enlightened author, you're getting right down into their best material. There's no need to sift through hours of pages in order to find the best stuff; the best stuff is in the quote!

This is why I've spent years reading books of quotations. Can you imagine the wisdom buzz a person can get from that? Sure, you often have to read boring quotes, but every little while you'll run into a real good one! And when this happens, your mind is stretched, your eyes are opened, and it can become an amazing intellectual or spiritual experience. And then you start over, because it becomes addictive.

Here are ten motivational quotes based on the topics of aspiration and life that I have always loved. Take the time to dig through them and glean the great lessons that they hold.

1. When a young man sets out to learn something of his own free will, he marks himself out as an exceptional man. And he begins to rise in the world. -Herbert N. Casson

2. Life is a petty thing unless it is moved by the indomitable urge to extend its boundaries. Only in proportion as we are desirous of living do we really live. – Jose Ortega y Gasset

3. It is asked, how can the laboring man find time for self-culture? I answer that an earnest purpose finds time or makes it. It seizes on spare moments and turns fragments to golden account. A man who follows his calling with industry and spirit, and uses his earnings economically, will always have some portion of the day at command. And it is astonishing how fruitful of improvement a short season becomes when eagerly seized and faithfully used. It has often been observed, that those who have the most time at their disposal profit by it the least. A single hour a day, steadily given to the study of some interesting subject, brings unexpected accumulations of knowledge. -Channing

4. Restlessness is discontent and discontent is the first necessity of progress. Show me a thoroughly satisfied man and I will show you a failure. -Thomas Edison

5. I am suffocated and lost when I have not the bright feeling of progression. -Margaret Fuller

6. I know of no more encouraging fact than the ability of a man to elevate his life by conscious endeavor. It is something to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so make a few objects beautiful. It is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look. This morally we can do. -Thoreau

7. What would be the use of immortality to a person who can not use well a half hour? -Emerson

8. Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you did not do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. -Mark Twain

9. If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. In proportion as he simplifies his life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness weakness. -Thoreau

10. 1) Sit quietly for a moment, and you realize how you have been foolishly running about.
2) Learn to keep your mouth shut, and you realize you have been talking too much.
3) Avoid getting involved in too many things, and you realize that you have been wasting your time in unnecessary things.
4) Close the door, and you realize that you have been mixed up with too many kinds of people.
5) Have few desires, and you realize why you have had so many ills.
6) Be human, and you realize that you have been too critical of others. -Chen Chiju (1588-1639)
