Self Cure For Nail Fungus – How to Cure Nail Fungus on Your Own

Nail fungus is also called onychomycosis, a fungal infection affecting the nails of the toes and fingers. The infection occurs more commonly in toes than in fingers. Nails make for an ideal fungal breeding ground, allowing them to promote in large numbers. This is what causes the infection. Dermatophyte is the group of fungi said to be responsible for the nail infection. There are other groups of fungi as well, some of which have a number of useful purposes.

More than 30 million people suffer from nail fungus. The condition is more common in the aged people as compared to the young, and in men than women. Athletes are at greater risk of suffering from the infection than non-athletes owing to their rigorous activities and constant sweating in their shoes.

Prevention is advised as the best cure for the infection. You should eat a healthy diet, maintain proper hygiene and expose yourself to constant sunlight. Healthy food gives you bodily health necessary to fight all these invading organisms. Proper hygiene ensures your body is safe from fungal attack. Adequate exposure to sunlight further helps in staying away from fungi. Fungi require a warm, damp and dark place to survive, and sunlight exposure helps in getting rid of any fungus in your surroundings.

It is important to wear loose shoes that give room for ventilation. If you sweat very frequently, then you should change your socks regularly. Make sure you properly clean your feet and wash them from time to time. After washing your feet, don’t forget to dry them thoroughly. Applying powder on the feet gives even better protection.

If you spot the discoloring and thickening of your nails, then you’re possibly infected. If you feel itchiness in the nails or white spots on the nails, it is a fungal infection, and you should take it very seriously.

There are a number of safe procedures that you can apply to rid yourself of fungal infection completely. The important thing is that the measures should be adopted for a time period long enough to have permanent results. The moment you spot the earliest traces of fungal infection, you should start this treatment. If you allow the infection to spread, it will be difficult to contain it with these simple home remedies. In the worst cases, you may even have to go for a permanent nail removal. So it’s best to act fast.

Tea tree oil extracted from tea trees of Australia are known to have several antifungal, antibacterial and antiseptic properties and make for an excellent home remedy. Mix the substance with 2 tablespoons of olive oil or lavender oil and apply the mixture directly over the skin. Perform the procedure for 15-20 minutes.

Alternatively, you may soak your feet in vinegar and keep them there for half an hour. Again, it is necessary to perform the procedure on a daily basis for at least several months in order to rid yourself of fungi completely. If you stop anywhere in between, chances are the fungi will cause infection again after a brief interval.

Nail Fungus Treatments are plenty, and most of them take time to work properly. There are many options out there, so simply learning about them will help you decide which solution is best for you. Solutions can range from at home remedies to medication, to even laser treatment. Here are the best Nail Fungus Treatments on the market.

Convenience Store Displays – Ideas For Showcasing Your Merchandise

Many convenience store patrons are interested in only three things: Paying for gas, grabbing a quick snack, and picking up whatever items they forgot to pack or don’t feel like traveling far to purchase. As a convenience store owner or employee, one of your jobs is to make sure you showcase your merchandise in such a way that grab a customer’s attention and be convenient for that customer to purchase.

Some of the most common places to display your merchandise include registers and countertops, aisles, entryways, and deli-style areas. Below are suggestions for making the most of those areas by creating appropriate and effective convenience store displays.

Registers and Countertops

Placing merchandise on countertops and near registers is one of the most common ways storeowners choose to display their merchandise. Not only do these locations help prevent theft, but the also help ensure customers will see the merchandise.

Convenience store displays on countertops and near registers most often include small items like candy. Plastic containers work well with these kinds of displays. Of course, you can also find convenience store racks small enough to fit comfortably near your register or someone atop the countertop and these racks lend themselves to slightly larger items like bags of candy, chips, and trail mix.

Convenience store racks like wire displays are great for showcasing merchandise in your store’s aisles. Many storeowners choose to use these wire displays for items like bags of chips and candy, but they’re functional for displaying a variety of products like maps, toys, and personal hygiene items a traveling customer might have forgotten to pack. You can even find wire displays made for holding acrylic dispensers for both your edible and non-edible merchandise.

Make sure you choose wire displays that will comfortably fit in your convenience store’s aisles. If you have a lot of room, you might want to choose wider displays to showcase more merchandise; however, if your aisles are narrow, it’s a good idea to choose narrow wire displays. These displays also come in a variety of heights, so if you must choose a narrow display you might be able to supplement the space by also choosing a tall display.

Many convenience stores don’t generally offer an abundance of space, and sometimes you must get creative in order to effectively and attractively display your merchandise. Entryways – just inside your convenience store’s main door – are great places to store merchandise within space-saving, enclosed displays to protect the items from sticky fingers and the elements that might travel in each time a customer opens the doors.

Gumball machines are especially popular displays for convenience store entryways and you can choose from a wide selection of styles. Some gumball machines are traditional in that they are fairly tall, thin, and offer one plastic bubble filled with gumballs; however, gumball machines have come a long way over the years, and now you can select machines with two or even three plastic bubbles as well as small gumball machines designed to rest on multi-leveled wire display racks.

Deli-Style Areas

If your convenience store includes any kind of deli-style area, there’s no question about whether you need plastic containers for holding items like napkins and hand wipes, straws and stick stirs, and condiments and seasonings. However, depending on the kind of foods you offer in your deli, you might also require displays designed for containers like cereal dispensers.

Leukemia – The "White Blood" Disease

Leukemia or leukaemia meaning white blood (Greek leukos, “white”; aima, “blood”) is a cancer of the blood or bone marrow and is characterized by an abnormal growth of blood cells, usually white blood cells (leukocytes)and is split into its acute and chronic forms. It can affect the digestive tract, kidneys, lungs, or other parts of the body and can also collect in the testicles causing swelling. Leukemia is one of the most common cancers of children, But isn’t just a children’s disease, as many think. It is newly diagnosed in about 29,000 adults and 2000 children each year in the United States and has four main types and many sub-types of which only some of them are common among children. Leukemia that has spread to the brain may produce central nervous system effects, such as headaches, seizures, weakness, blurred vision, balance difficulties, or vomiting and the disease, or the chemotherapy used to treat it, can cause anemia.

Acute Leukemia

Acute leukemia is characterized by the rapid increase of immature blood cells, and is a potentially curable disease; However only a small number of patients are cured with current therapy. It begins with one or a few white blood cells that have a lost or damaged DNA sequence and gets worse very fast and may make you feel sick right away. It tends to develop suddenly, whereas some chronic varieties may exist for years before they are even diagnosed. Immediate treatment is required due to the rapid progression and accumulation of the malignant cells, which then spill over into the bloodstream and spread to other organs of the body. Whereas acute leukemia must be treated immediately, chronic forms are sometimes monitored for some time before treatment to ensure maximum effectiveness of therapy.

Chronic Leukemia

Chronic leukemia is distinguished by the excessive build up of relatively mature, but still abnormal, blood cells and often goes undetected for many years until it is identified in a routine blood test. It is more common between ages 40 and 70 and is rare among young people. It tends to gets worse slowly and may not cause symptoms for years. Like many other cancers, it is a disease of old age. Doctors often find chronic leukemia during a routine checkup, before there are any noticeable symptoms. In adults, the acute forms occur in those of all ages, whereas the chronic varieties tend to occur in people older than 40 years. Although slow-growing chronic leukemia may also be seen in children, it is very rare, accounting for fewer than 50 cases in children each year in the United States.

Treatment of leukemia is complex and it depends on your age and health, the type and how far it has spread. Treatment is generally considered necessary when the patient shows signs and symptoms such as low blood cell counts. In general, ALL treatment is divided into several phases. In children, an intensive 6-month treatment program is needed after induction, followed by 2 years of maintenance chemotherapy. For children with low-risk, standard therapy usually consists of three drugs (prednisone, L-asparaginase, and vincristine) for the first month of treatment. High-risk patients receive higher drug doses plus treatment with extra chemotherapeutic agents. Follow-up therapy for ALL patients usually consists of: supportive care, such as intravenous nutrition and treatment with oral antibiotics.

In general, the indications for treatment are: falling hemoglobin or platelet count, progression to a later stage of disease, painful, disease-related overgrowth of lymph nodes or spleen, lymphocyte doubling time (an indicator of lymphocyte reproduction) of fewer than 12 months. Overall, the strategy is to control bone marrow and systemic (whole-body) disease while offering specific treatment for the central nervous system (CNS), if necessary. Consolidation or “maintenance” treatments may be given to prevent disease recurrence once remission has been achieved. Whatever the plan, it is important for the patient to understand the treatment that is being given and the reasons behind the choice.

Leukemia is a cancer of blood-forming cells in the bone marrow. These cells crowd out other types of blood cells produced by the bone marrow, including red blood cells, which carry oxygen to tissues throughout your body, and platelets, which help form blood clots. Leukemia cells can spread to the lymph nodes or other organs causing swelling and/or pain and can also collect in the kidney, liver and spleen, causing enlargement of these organs. They also can affect the lungs and other parts of the body. Acute forms can occur in children and young adults. Chronic forms mostly occurs in older people, but can theoretically occur in any age group.

There is no single known cause for all of the different types of leukemia. Studies have linked exposure to petrochemicals, such as benzene, and hair dyes to the development of some forms. Viruses have been linked to other forms. Until the cause or causes are found, there is no known way to prevent the occurrence of the disease. As of 1998, it is estimated that each year, approximately 30,800 individuals will be diagnosed with the disease in the United States and 21,700 individuals will die of the disease.

Aspirin for Limping and Painful Dogs

A limping dog is scary but you can often check a few things out to see if  it might be something you can deal with. It always helps to wet or wash the leg and foot first to get a clearer view of swelling, cuts, bumps, bruises, wounds, splinters, or foxtails. Washing or wetting down the leg makes all of those problems easier to see. joint aspirin
Always proceed with CAUTION: Any dog will bite if they feel pain. Use restraint and get help for everyone’s safety. Do not mess with a sore leg unless you know the dog’s temperament. Even “nice dogs” will bite when hurt.

Nails that have grown too long can catch on things and become cracked, red, infected, bruised, broken or painful. Check the nails for breaks and the nail bed for infection. Keep the nails trimmed to prevent problems

broken toenailThe toes can hide cuts, wounds, growths, or infections. A swollen toe may mean a sprain, a broken one,  or an infection from a wood splinter, nail or wire puncture, bite, or plant. You should clean up any wound or infection with warm water and mild dishwashing detergent.  Your dog may need treatment for painful or infected wounds.

Underneath the foot, around the pads, you may find a cut, wound, infection, or just really red skin. Red inflamed skin often results from allergies to grasses causing itching and chewing to the feet. Sometimes running on rocks or asphalt can bruise or blister the pads. Apply cortisone and Neosporin to soothe the itch and skin infection. It always helps to wash the foot and area around the pads.A sock, light bandage, or cone is helpful to keep dogs from chewing the area.cut pad

If the foot does not seem painful or involved, move up the leg to check for bumps, bruises, or swollen joints. If gently bending a joint causes discomfort, you may be dealing with a mild sprain or arthritis in the joint. Arthritis is really common in older dogs and may cause a bit of limping off and on when they over do it. Coming up lame after playing could mean a pulled muscle. Arthritis in the neck, spine, or hips will also cause limping that looks like it is coming from the foot or one of the legs.

If your dog is putting some weight on the leg, but limping a bit, it could be any of the common problems above. If your dog can’t support any weight, is extremely painful, and you can’t determine the cause of the discomfort, get it checked out. If you want to try and relieve a bit of the pain try a dose or two of aspirin.

Sometimes poodles, yorkies, maltese, lhasas, and other toy breeds will hike up a back leg because their kneecap is going in and out of place. The kneecap can rub on the joint and make it painful. In some dogs it is just the pressure of the kneecap in the wrong place that makes things feel different. Holding  their leg up relieves the pressure. Some dogs grow out of it. Others can be exercised to tighten up the knee joint. A few may need surgery to make things right.luxating-patella.img_assist_custom

For any of the above problems you can aspirin to help with pain and discomfort. The dose for dogs is 1 adult aspirin per 30 pounds twice daily or 1 baby aspirin per 5 pounds twice daily. If the situation gets worse or doesn’t improve in a day or two, get it diagnosed and treated. Do not use Tylenol or ibuprofen in dogs. Both can have side effects.aspirin

Ringing in Ears Blood Pressure Problems – 3 Tips to Stop the Whooshing Noise in You Ears

You probably already know that hearing loss and its unwelcome cousin, tinnitus is most often caused by subjecting your ears to loud noises. Other causes include head injuries, sinus and ear infections, wax build-up, high cholesterol, TMJ problems or dental problems, food allergies, certain types of tumors and high blood pressure. If you have an odd whooshing or thumping ringing in ears, then high blood pressure may be linked to the cause. Here’s help to get over this confounding problem.

Say Hello to Pulsatile Tinnitus

Tinnitus is the medical term for “ringing in the ears” although some people hear other sounds. Normally the noises can’t be heard by anyone else and there is no obvious cause of the noise in your ears. You may hear it in one ear or both ears. The noises vary, but in pulsatile tinnitus the noise is described as a drumming, thumping or whooshing noise in the ears. Anyone of any age can experience of tinnitus. Some times the noises last for minutes, other times the noise never goes away.

Does the sound in your ears beat in time with your pulse? This is called pulsatile or vascular tinnitus. Approximately 3% of tinnitus patients experience this kind of tinnitus. When you have pulsatile tinnitus you hear a rhythmic pulsing, often in time with your heartbeat.

Ringing in ears blood pressure related noises are caused by a narrowing or a partial blockage of your arteries or blood vessels caused from an atheroma. The most common cause of pulsatile tinnitus is arterial turbulence, a noisy blood flow caused by plaques or kinks in the arteries in the head or neck. An atheroma is an abnormal accumulation and swelling of cholesterol and fatty acids, calcium mineral and fibrous connective tissues within the walls of your arteries. It can be made worse if there is also hypertension. The good news is that many forms of pulsatile tinnitus are treatable.

Tips To Stop Ringing In Ears Blood Pressure Problems

Pulsatile tinnitus is a symptom of a more serious condition and you are advised seek out your physician’s advice to reduce your cholesterol levels as soon as possible. Here are some natural steps to ending your pulsatile tinnitus.

1. Salt contains sodium. Sodium causes the sounds of tinnitus to become louder and more intense. High sodium levels lead to high blood pressure problems. So back off or completely stop adding salt to your food. Search out low sodium products when buying canned or pre-packaged foods.

2. Try lowering your blood pressure without synthetic drugs. Add omega rich fish oil to your diet and eat more fiber. If you love oatmeal or oat bran flakes eat it every day as they offer the largest cholesterol lowering effects of all grains.

3. Dairy products can aggravate tinnitus and add to cholesterol problems (which lead to pulsatile tinnitus.) Try eliminating all dairy products from your diet for 10 days. Keep a daily log of any changes (good or bad) in your ringing in ears blood pressure related noises. If at the end of 10 days you noticed a reduction in the pulsatile related noises, then continue on without dairy or slowly add it back in with skim/low fat dairy products.

Back Workout Routines: Get Wide Lats and Thick Traps With This Killer Workout!

Whether you’re trying to gain gobs of muscle mass or to just look lean and strong, nothing says “I train hard” like broad, thick back! Just like with legs, getting a stand-out back takes some serious blood, sweat, and tears – you’ve really got to leave all you’ve got on the gym floor if you want serious results. Here are a few key tips and exercises for constructing great back workout routines!

Deadlifts for Mass

There’s no doubt that squats are the king of all exercises when it comes to putting on muscle mass as fast as humanly possible. However, the deadlift is a close second to the squat and is definitely the best mass-builder for the upper AND lower back. Simply put, if you don’t have deadlifts in your back workout routines, you’re not getting anywhere near the most you could be out of your training.

The deadlift obviously works your lower back hard, since that is a primary pivot point for the movement. If you execute the deadlift properly, you will be both straightening your legs and extending your back. However, the deadlift also places HUGE stress on the lats and traps. The lats are used the keep the bar in close to your body as you pull upwards. You may not feel them contracting in the same was as you would on a pull-up or a row, but they are working! The same goes for the traps. You’re not performing a shrug at the top of the movement, but your traps will be on fire just from being stretched to hold the weight in place! You will never see a strong deadlifter with small traps.

If you’re going to put full-range deadlifts in your back workout routines, it’s best to do them at the beginning. They are a hard, heavy movement with a relatively large range of motion, and doing them after any other pulling movements is going to seriously limit the weight you can use. You can’t get the benefit of deadlifts if you’re moving serious weight! This is the exercise on which you can probably lift more than any other.

However, there are other variations of the deadlift that you can use if you want to start your back training with pull-ups or rows. Rack-pulls are a kind of shortened deadlift done with the bar resting on the safety pins in a squat rack. You start with the bar around knee height and pull the bar to lockout. Since the range of motion is much shorter, you can still sling some serious weight around even when your back is fatigued from other movements!

Row to Grow!

Most people focus on pull-ups and pull-down movements when they train their upper back. While these are certainly essential for getting that width everyone wants, you’re never going to build a truly massive, thick back without putting some serious work in on heavy, free weight rows. Getting stronger at rows also tends to help your bench press strength. A row is essentially the opposite of a flat press, and getting strong at the movement gives you great stability on the bench.

People differ on what their favorite type of row is, but I’ve always preferred the basic barbell version. Bend about 45 degrees at the waist, put a slight swing into the motion, and pull the bar towards your stomach. Wear a belt and wrist straps if necessary, and work up to some seriously heavy weight! Rows are unique among exercises in that you can typically use a very heavy weight AND high reps, so don’t wimp out and stop the set early!

Another great row variation is the one-armed dumbbell row. It’s also one that, in my opinion, most people do the wrong way. I usually see trainees using super-strict, slow form with a small weight that they can probably curl! Strict form is all well and good sometimes, but seriously, you don’t build a huge back with light weights! Think about the deadlift – it’s the best back movement there is, but you use tons of other muscles. Do you really think you need to “isolate” your lats to make them grow? If you’re going to row with dumbbells, take a strong stance, bracing yourself with your off-hand on the dumbbell rack, and tug a huge weight for high reps! If you’re willing to get a little loose with your form, you’ll surprise yourself with how much weight you can use.

Get Wide

Finally, we come to a movement that every bodybuilder, weight lifter, and athlete is familiar with. While deadlifts and rows are going to put most of the mass on your back, you’ll never get wide, flaring lats if you don’t get strong on vertical pulling movements. Which movement should you pick? If you’re anything but an advanced bodybuilder, the answer is the pull-up. You may eventually find pull-downs of various sorts to be better for back development, but until you’re seriously big and strong, you need to bust ass pulling your entire body to that chin bar. This part is crucial in order to see success with your back workout routines.

There are tons of ways to perform pull-ups, but until you’re experienced at them, go ahead and do what is hardest (and most effective)! The basic, wide-grip pull-up done from a dead hang on every rep will build your back and grip strength faster than any variation and will lay a great foundation for a developed, muscular back. Use some chalk to get your grip right, get up to that bar, and tug like your life depends on it. Once you’re able to handle your bodyweight for 10-12 reps with FULL range of motion, start adding weight to yourself. Get to the point where you’re doing pull-ups with 100 pounds attached for 10 reps and see if you don’t have the widest back in town.

Skin Care for seniors: A Closer Look

Our skin tends to change as we grow older. A baby’s skin has a much thick fat layer and a much thinner epidermis. The presence of high percentage of hyaluronic acid makes babies skin more smooth and soft. Babies regenerate stratum corneum (the outermost layer where new skin cells are formed) in as little as 14 days, whereas the same regeneration process takes 37 days in a 50 year old.

As we grow old, it loses much of the underlying tissues that make our skin soft and supple. As time goes, collagen depletes from the dermis. Collagen depletion makes our skin thinner and less supple and causes it to sag. In addition to this, decreased blood flow to our skin results in slower healing.

Elderly skins are more sensitive to clothing fabrics, soaps, detergents and other items encountered in everyday living. Find out the cause of the itchiness or rash and get rid of the product may help reduce the itchiness.

Elderly persons tend to bruise more easily; this can be from the skin becoming thinner and losing the fat padding under the skin. Thus, blood vessels are less protected from injury. An injury inflicted by mild accident may result in a substantial bruise. Check with your physical to make sure that there isn’t a bleeding issue.

Keep the skin clean: Try always to keep the seniors skin clean. This applies especially to the feet, groin and armpits. People who sweat too much should wear loose, absorbent clothing that will soak the wetness away. If the skin stays wet too long it may prone to fungal infection and rashes.

Avoid hot baths: Try to avoid hot baths and frequent showering. This will dry out skin further. Bathing once every day is always recommended if the senior doesn’t get physically dirty.

Chemical Perfumes: Try to find a product that doesn’t have chemical perfumes and chemical dyes as they may contain harsh detergents that may cause rash.

Bed Bath: There are very good products in the market, which helps you, give a bed bath. You heat the pre-moistened cloths in the microwave and use them to wash your elder. There is also a shampoo cap, which you put on the person’s head and scrub away. You don’t have to rinse their hair or body with either of these products.

Hydrated skin: Elders with dry skin should always be hydrated to avoid potential problems like cracking, pain and itchiness. After shower, do not dry them off too much. After shower, apply a light coating of skin moisturizer or body lotion. If tour elder goes out during the day, apply a moisturizer with sunscreen.

Elder care always requires taking care of their skin. Treating elder skins isn’t hard, but it only requires good attention and getting in the habit of taking care of it.

Reduce Hypertension With Deep Relaxation

It is known that hypertension can be caused by stress. It is why we are advised to build some relaxation time into our daily routine. How effective is relaxation is lowering high blood pressure?

I have investigated this by conducting an (unscientific) experiment of my own into deep relaxation. The results were surprising.

Different types of relaxation

There are two types of relaxation:

  1. active relaxation; and
  2. passive relaxation.

When we talk about relaxing, we normally think of passive relaxation such as listening to quiet music, enjoying the beautiful scenery around us or just simply quieting our mind for a while. The more mentally disciplined amongst us might meditate. These methods can lower high blood pressure.

A round of golf or a tennis game might be considered as active relaxation, but these do not necessarily have the same effect as passive relaxation.

My experiment

A couple of weeks ago, I decided to listen to “A Guided Meditation” by Glenn Harrold that had been gathering dust on the shelf since 2003. It induced in me a very deep level of mental and physical relaxation. As it happened, I had my home digital BP monitor near me. The guided meditation lasted for about half an hour, at the end of which, on a whim, I decided to measure my systolic and diastolic pressures.

I measured these pressures again four hours later.

The results surprised me. My morning readings were 140/93 with a pulse rate of 70. Those readings were up a bit on what they normally are, but nevertheless are considered normal for a person of my age.

After listening to “A Guided Meditation”, my readings were 127/80 with a pulse rate of 63. Encouraged by this, I repeated the experiment for the next six days. Then I changed to listening to “Paul McKenna’s Deep Relaxation” CD, which I listened to every day for a week. Co-incidentally, this CD had also been gathering dust on the shelf since 2003.

The results

It must be noted that:

  1. neither “A Guided Meditation” nor “Paul McKenna’s Deep Relaxation” claim to reduce hypertension; and
  2. these programmes are not comparable products.

However, they both lowered my systolic and diastolic pressures significantly, but by different amounts:

  • “A Guided Meditation” consistently resulted in blood pressure readings in the range of 11 to 13 points lower than the measurements I took at the start of the day. The effect was still noticeable, albeit reduced, after four hours.
  • Whereas, “Paul McKenna’s Deep Relaxation” consistently resulted in blood pressure readings in the range of 5 to 7 points lower than the measurements I took at the start of the day. The effect was not measurable after four hours.

I do not claim to have used scientific methodology. Furthermore, the results were specific to me, so my results should be considered as anecdotal evidence. Nevertheless, both sets of results are very good. The beneficial effects of deep relaxation lasted for about four hours.

This piece of rough science confirms that deep relaxation is an effective way of eliminating physical and mental stress, thereby reducing hypertension. Both “A Guided Meditation” and “Paul McKenna’s Deep Relaxation” gave good results for me. Although the benefits only last a few hours, it is still worthwhile as it complements the other methods being used to lower my high blood pressure.

Choosing a Diet – Let There Be Success

Let’s face it, choosing a diet is a daunting task with so many options available out there. So instead, try this philosophy instead. Read through the diets with an open mind. Look for the kinds of diets that have desirable traits that you can stick to. Remember, this is about you and success. If you cannot commit to the diet you select, then you have already failed.

Let’s look at some dieting myths before you make your decision.

Myth #1- Some sugars are worse than other sugars. Fact, sugar is sugar; the carbohydrates in these sugars still spike insulin and increase your blood sugar levels resulting in appetite increase.

Myth #2- Fat is bad. Wrong. Your body requires fat to maintain metabolism and energy. Go for fats from avocados, nuts, and fish and olive oil. Shun red meat, butter and processed foods.

Myth #3- Carbs make you gain weight. This may not be completely true. But acquaint yourself with the glycemic index and select carbs from the lower end of the index. This way you can more easily stick to your selected diet and steadily lose weight.

Myth #4- Low fat foods help you lose weight. It’s calories that help you lose weight. One pound of weight is roughly equivalent to 3,500 calories. So there is room to maneuver on your diet.

Myth #5- Eating in the evening packs on pounds. It’s what you eat like buttered popcorn, snack cakes, potato chips and pizza bite that pack on the pounds. So be aware of what you are consuming.

Next up in selecting a diet that is right for you is going to require some work from you and that work is research. Compare those diets, and review the strategies behind them. Every diet has a list of do’s and don’ts, a food list and a strategy to follow. These are the soup to nuts of a sound diet. Check out the physical requirements that go along with the diet. Honestly, exercise is synonymous with diet instead of the phrase “diet and exercise.”

Look into the menu and select three to four diets to zero in on and research deeper. Do they have the snacks you enjoy or could enjoy? Is your comfort food listed? Do they modify recipes of your favorite foods to include them in this diet? Make a list of the reservations you have, because these are where you make your diet selection.

Lastly, acquaint yourself with the issues diets don’t address. Issues like the amounts of sugars in carbonated beverages, wheat and its damaging effect to diets. Take a strong look at potatoes and the appetite spikes that can result. Many dieters blame the diet when weight doesn’t come off, yet there are many other hidden factors are culprits as well.

Now narrow down your contenders, adjust your pantries accordingly and set a date to begin. With proper research and self-education you should have every expectation of a successful diet. Here’s weight loss to you.

Kawasaki Syndrome – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment

Kawasaki syndrome, also called mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, is a potentially fatal inflammatory disorder which occurs mostly in infants and children, and affects several organ systems in the body including the skin, mucous membranes, circulatory system, heart and the immune system. Males are affected more than females, and this condition is more common in persons of Asian descent. This condition is believed to be an allergic reaction or an unusual response to certain types of infections. Common signs and symptoms include an abrupt onset; high fever; skin rash followed by peeling; redness and swelling of mucous membranes; a strawberry appearance of the tongue; lymph node enlargement; arthritis; pneumonia; diarrhea; meningitis; myocarditis, arrhythmias, and arteritis; and occasionally, gangrene.

The Ayurvedic treatment of Kawasaki syndrome is aimed at treating the symptoms and preventing or minimizing the complications. Medicines like Chandrakala-Ras, Kamdudha-Ras and Maha-Sudarshan-Churna are used to treat fever. Skin rash, redness, swelling and peeling of skin and mucous membranes can be treated using medicines like Arogya-Vardhini, Gandhak-Rasayan, Maha-Manjishthadi-Qadha, Saarivadi-Churna, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu, Manjishtha (Rubia cordifolia), Saariva (Hemidesmus indicus), Nimba (Azadirachta indica), Haridra (Curcuma longa), Daruharidra (Berberis aristata), Khadeer (Acacia catechu), Bhrungraj (Eclipta alba), Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Mandukparni (Centella asiatica), Yashtimadhuk (Glycerrhiza glabra) and Karanj (Pongamia pinnata).

Local application on the skin is equally important in preventing the rash, redness, swelling and peeling. An ointment containing Mandukparni, Yashtimadhuk, Manjishtha, Saariva, Haridra and Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) can be used for this purpose. Other medicines like Shatadhout-Ghrut, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut and Yashtimadhuk-Ghrut are also quite useful in this condition.

Lymph node enlargement can be treated using medicines like Punarnavadi-Guggulu and Kachnaar-Guggulu. Arthritis can be treated using Triphala-Guggulu, Yograj-Guggulu and Kaishor-Guggulu. Meningitis can be treated using medicines like Maha-Yograj-Guggulu, Saraswatarishta, Chandrakala-Ras and Punarnavadi-Qadha. Diseases of the heart and blood vessels can be treated using medicines like Maha-Manjishthadi-Qadha, Punarnavadi-Guggulu, Gokshuradi-Guggulu, Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu, Arjunarishta, Dashmoolarishta and Drakshasav. Long term complications of this disease, like coronary thrombosis and aneurysm, can be prevented by using medicines like Panch-Tikta-Ghrut-Guggulu, Laxadi-Guggulu, Medohar-Guggulu, Draksha (Vitis vinifera), Amalaki (Emblica officinalis), Guggulu (Commiphora mukul), Lashuna (Allium sativum) Psyllium (Plantago ovata), Kutki (Picrorrhiza kurroa) and Arjun (Terminalia arjuna).

While most patients with Kawasaki syndrome recover completely, complications account for death in about 1 to 2% of those affected, with 95% of fatalities occurring within 6 months of infection. Deaths are sudden and unpredictable. Intensive hospital care in the acute stages and regular, long term follow up by qualified and experienced physicians is therefore, very important. Ayurvedic medicines can be given as additional therapy to bring about a faster therapeutic response, speed up the recovery process and prevent death from complications.

Yeast Infections in Males Can Be Cured Naturally

The problem with yeast infection for males is that it is least detectable than female yeast infections. However, there are some similar symptoms that you can watch out for. Male yeast infection can sound benign, but it can be dangerous to your health. Do you know that yeast infections are linked to prostate cancer? This is due to the yeast traveling to the urethra and depositing itself in your prostate. This makes you prone to prostate cancer.

The compounding problem with male yeast infection is that you can infect your spouse during interaction. Vice versa, you can also be infected by your spouse if she is infected with yeast. This problem is almost cyclical. The infection goes both ways and can be tough between sexual partners.

This is why curing yeast infections for males is important. Here are some of the ways you can cure yeast infection for males the natural way.

1. Apple cider vinegar bath. Bathing in apple cider vinegar may seem like a smelly prospect. It is not. Apple cider vinegar is really great to balance the pH of the body. Not only that, it also facilitates the growth of good bacteria in the body. All you have to do is put some part of apple cider vinegar to your bath water and then soak yourself in it for a few minutes.

2. Drinking lactobacillus probiotic drink. Drinking lactobacillus will improve the balance between the helpful bacteria and the natural yeast. With the good bacteria abundant in the body, the yeast will be less infectious for you.

3. Organic coconut oil can be used as topical ointment. You can actually use organic coconut oil for penis yeast infection. Organic coconut oil is a very good, natural, anti-fungal agent. You can use it as a lubricant during sex. This will also help your partner from getting recurring yeast infections. You should also drink a bit of organic coconut oil to help your insides from getting infectious yeast.

If you are feeling any pain or itching during sex you may already be infected with yeast. If you are feeling depressed all of a sudden, if you are always feeling sick and tired, if you are not feeling yourself all of a sudden, these are all signs of yeast infection.

Adjusting pH Levels to fight Candida

Candida problems are more likely to be faced by people who are even mildly acidic and their pH or potential hydrogen level is lower than 7. The more alkaline the body is, higher the pH level and lesser the risk of Candida. Candida bacteria overgrow when our bodies are acidic and our pH level is not balanced. Therefore, being alkaline can help in many ways along with reducing the Candida yeast in our body.

Oxygen levels in our body can help our body get rid of diseases, and lower pH level can help illnesses and diseases thrive in our body. Our immune system works to keep Candida in check and healthy bacteria to flourish along with fighting various diseases.

Candida infections result if our bodies are not in balance, and the basic reason for this infection is the acidity levels in our bodies which can contribute to adverse health problems like Candida overgrowth. Candida overgrowth can result in health problems like vaginal discharge, oral thrush and penile infections, along with a whole list of other symptoms which may be akin to symptoms for other health issues as well:

  • Fatigue, anxiety and depression
  • Diarrhea or constipation, problems with digestion
  • Sinusitis issues
  • Food cravings, lower sex drive
  • Acne and other skin related problems

Candida is a problem recognized world wide and the health industry has several people seeking cures for this health issue, since Candida recurs quite often.

What is Candida?

Candida is an infection that can be cured, but it is a recurring issue that only goes away with a change in lifestyle. Candida infection is most likely a result of habits and lifestyle and thus a change in habits is what cures this infection. Candida may also result because of usage of antibiotics or other factors however, chance of recurrence in this case is quite small since these people are less prone to Candida infections. Lower levels of pH on the other hand, make people more prone to yeast infections and other diseases as well.

Are you prone to Candida?

Food and drinks can alter our pH level, and thus foods and drinks that cause alkalinity in our bodies are helpful in altering the pH level. Fewer acidic foods and more alkaline foods can dramatically help in creating a more congruous environment in our bodies for the growth of positive, healthy bacteria and get rid of overgrowth of candida. Flora which have a positive effect in our bodies thrive on alkalinity and replicate faster in a balanced pH level of above 7, thus reducing growth of harmful candida.

Foods and drinks which are acidic in nature should be avoided, and alkaline foods and drinks like high pH water, fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds should be included in the diet. Foods like red meat, processed foods, sugar and other related items need to be ideally taken away from the diet.

Our pH level:

pH testing kits are readily available in food stores and markets which can be used to test pH level in our body. Health improves when good dietary habits are adopted which include less sugar and more alkaline foods, as it can help reduce candida growth in our bodies. Alkaline diet and a balance in pH level is not just beneficial for reducing candida growth, but for other health reasons as well.

Drinking Alkaline Water:

Alkaline water can be used for balancing pH levels in the body as it can help provide nutrients to cells and for washing away diseases. Alkaline water is more beneficial as it is at least six times more hydrating than regular water particularly bottled water. Alkaline water can balance acidity in the body and help reduce several medical conditions like Candida over growth. A water ionizer is most convenient and affordable way to obtain electrically charged alkaline ionized water.

Passing Kidney Stones Naturally And Painlessly

The common first symptom of a kidney stone is extreme pain which begins suddenly when a stone moves in the urinary tract and blocks the flow of urine.

Passing Kidney Stones Naturally the painless and peaceful way.

Also called renal calculi in medical terminology which has the Latin origin ren or renes meaning “kidney” and calculi meaning “pebbles”, kidney stones are solid concretions or crystal aggregations formed in the kidneys from suspended urinary minerals. Uric acid stones are another type of stones.

Tracing the ‘evil BAND-it genius’

In cystinuria, too much of the amino acid cystine, which does not dissolve in urine, is voided, leading to the formation of stones made of cystine. The “silent” stonesthose that do not cause symptomsare found on x-rays taken during a general health exam.

High-oxalate foods include rhubarb, spinach, beets, Swiss chard, wheat germ, soybean crackers, peanuts, okra, chocolate, black Indian tea and sweet potatoes. The results of all these tests help determine the proper treatment. Ureters or the narrow tubes in the urinary system, carry urine from the kidneys to the bladder, an oval-shaped chamber in the lower abdomen. There are other causes of kidney stones.

The rock bandit’s yesterday and today

Crystal can grow into stones and get larger and larger as long as they sit in the super saturated fluid. People even visit almost 3 million times to health care providers, and greater than 500,000 people go to emergency rooms for kidney stone problems every year.

Once a person gets more than one stone, other stones are likely to develop. Kidney stones tend to be way down on the list of possible problems. Recent studies in global warming indicate that the number of patients yearly who are treated for kidney stones is going to increase from 1 million to 2 million. In the late 1970s, less than 4 percent of the population had stone-forming disease.

Extra titbits, anyone?

Would you believe a strong and health-conscious athlete would be a victim of these BAND-its? Just this May, Mark Recchi, Canadian professional ice hockey player currently playing for the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), had his kidney stone removed. Meanwhile, last year’s New Year’s Eve was filled with suspense as a Canadian woman was rushed to a hospital for what she believed was a kidney stone.

We all come to a conclusion

Remember the news mentioned about the children getting kidney stones above? Here are some remedies recommended by the University of Michigan Health System itself:

If stones are small, doctors recommend for the children to pass them on their own. It might lead to your termination. Do you want to be included in the thousands of people who are still suffering the wrath of these evil pebbles? Or do you want your health to get better and be the shedding light to these other people suffering? If you are tired of the medical customs you’re probably into now, this is also the time to free yourself from that. You don’t actually want your child to feel the same pain over and over again behind those medical apparatuses, right?

The stones you have now may be just as small as pellets, but are you going to wait for them to become larger? You don’t actually want to know that your kidney stone would be larger than the coconut-sized one, would you? And surely, you won’t want to think you’re going to give birth to a baby when you actually have a kidney stone in your body? Think. Passing Kidney Stones Naturally And Painlessly right now.

Poisoning in Autistic Children With Mercury. Is This True?

Autism is still a mystery, and mercury poisoning in autistic children is just one of the many things that may play a role in whether your child becomes autistic. The issue is widely debated among parents, doctors, and autism activists, because at this point, it can not be definitively attributed to causing autism. Because of the mysteriousness of autism and the fact that there are no true diagnosed causes or cures at this point, those in the medical community who support vaccinations, including mercury, deny that it plays any role, whatsoever in autism.

Many vaccines contain mercury, often at levels that are high enough to cause problems in children. Because of the possible link to autism, many drug companies have created vaccinations that do not include mercury, although many others still exist that contain mercury. Most medical research studies claim that there is no link between vaccinations and autism. Some parents with children, that have autism, reveal in their own research the opposite to be true.

Parents who have had their children tested for mercury levels, have obtained documents, that their child has high levels of mercury in their bodies, higher than what is “normal” or safe for a child. This is a mystery, because most children who are vaccinated naturally eliminate the poisonous mercury from their systems. Many autistic children, hold the mercury within their bodies following vaccinations, leading parents and many researchers to believe that it may cause autism. Doctors and experts claim that this is not a reason to stop your child from being vaccinated, because it happens in so few children, and seems to be more of an inherited problem. The risks of not vaccinating your child are much higher to medical professionals, leading them to believe it is worth the risk, since it is an unproven question to be solved.

Autism affects approximately 1 out of every 150 children born in this country today. Amazingly, the amount of children diagnosed with autism has multiplied by 10 over the past ten years. Is this due to enhanced medical diagnosis, or, because more children are actually getting autism? It is still unclear at this point. It is interesting to note, that as the rates of vaccinations have increased over the years, so have the cases of autism. Although it is not a clear correlation, it is proof enough for many parents to decide NOT to have their children vaccinated to eliminate the fear of autism.

There is proof that vaccines are to blame, according to many parents who are saying that their child had no signs of autism prior to their vaccinations. These signs are indications of lacking communication skills with others, lack of speech, difficulty reading signals or having proper reactions to stimuli, maintaining eye contact, and severe tantrums. Many parents report that their children were progressing as any child would, learning how to talk, communicate, prior to the vaccinations, but after the vaccinations, they became withdrawn and lost social skills, motor functions, and the ability to communicate.

Mercury poisoning in autistic children, is just one of the many potential causes of autism. It is not medically proven, that a study of lab rats, who were given mercury in similar amounts to what children were given in vaccines, display many of the same symptoms as autistic children, leading experts to believe that it should be studied further by the medical community. Although mercury poisoning in autistic children is not the sole source for causing the rise in autism, but there appears to be a correlation, that it may be one of the factors in causing autism.

Before making a decision whether to have your child vaccinated for fear that your child will be diagnosed with autism, it is an excellent idea to discuss this issue with your family physician and obtain updated research on the mercury contained in certain vaccines that would be given to your child.

By taking action and doing research, networking regarding mercury poisoning in autistic children, you will have a better understanding, to make a concrete decision that is, positive for your child’s well being and yours.

FeLV, FVRCP-C, and Rabies – Annual Boosters for Indoor and Outdoor Cats

All cats need to be vaccinated, but the vaccines they require and the frequency of vaccination largely depends on their lifestyle. Indoor cats require different maintenance vaccines than their outdoor cousins and owners need to be aware of the intricacies and necessities of these common vaccines.

In general, veterinarians require cats to visit clinics every year for their “annual boosters”. These “boosters” simply refer to annual vaccinations that booster the immune system in order to effectively respond to the presence of a disease or virus. Most feline annual boosters consist of FVRCP-C (a 4-in-one vaccine), FeLV (feline leukemia), and Rabies.

Not all of these vaccines are necessary every year, however, depending on your cat’s needs. All cats require a few rounds of vaccinations when they are young (or when their vaccine history is uncertain) and another round one year later. But the frequency of vaccinations for the remainder of their lives largely depends on if they are indoor, outdoor, or live with other cats that venture outdoors.

The most common vaccination given to cats is FVRCP (or FVRCP-C), otherwise known as the 3-in-one or 4-in-one vaccine. This vaccine incorporates a few different vaccines into one shot. These vaccines include Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR), Calicivirus (C), Panleukemia (P), and sometimes Feline Chlamydia (-C).

Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis (FVR) and Calicivirus (C) both address specific disease associated with common respiratory infections in cats. Since both these diseases are airborne, all cats, both indoor and out, need to be vaccinated against them.

Panleukemia, otherwise known as feline distemper, is neither leukemia nor distemper but actually the feline equivalent of parvovirus. This disease, transmitted by feces, bedding, bowls, and other common items, causes cats to shed the lining of their intestines through bloody diarrhea. The mortality rate is 60-90% and there is no cure.

Chlamydia is another upper respiratory infection that can last for many months if untreated.

Feline Leukemia

Feline Leukemia [] is not leukemia, but instead consists of a virus that attacks the immune system. Like FIV [—What-and-Why/Page1.html], cats do not die from feline leukemia, but instead fall victim to other diseases that, if they had a healthy immune system, would not be a hazard to their health.

Not all cats need the FeLV vaccine. Indoor cats that never venture outside or live with other strictly-indoor cats do not need this vaccine. Although dogs can sometimes bring in the disease, this is not common. Any cat that goes outside or lives with cats that go outside needs to be vaccinated for feline leukemia. This disease is transmitted through saliva and can be transmitted via water and food bowls, grooming, or any moist surface. It can stay active for up to 48 hours on a moist area.

Although cats and dogs have been receiving the general rabies vaccine for many years, recent studies show that some of the adjutants in vaccines can lead to severe forms of cancer. Rabies laws differ depending on the county and state, but many states now recognize a three-year expiration date on rabies vaccines. These vaccines, however have the adjuvants (preservatives) that can cause tissue inflammation in cats and abnormal cell growth that can lead to fibrous sarcomas – cancerous tumors that occur at the site of injection that require the limb to be amputated.

There are alternatives [] to traditional rabies vaccines and you should discuss all alternatives and vaccines with your vet.
