Cats Can Reduce Your Risk Of A Heart Attack

Having a cat may provide you enjoyment, companionship, and other significant benefits. But did you know that owning one can also reduce your risk of a heart attack? A ten year study on a selected number of pet owners proves that having a cat at home can lower your risk of getting a heart attack by approximately 30%.

For quite some time now, it's been known that anxiety and stress are related to incidences of heart attacks and other forms of cardiovascular diseases. A cat can help you relax and manage stress, in turn making you a less likely candidate for an infarction. Researchers say dogs probably have the same soothing effect, however there was not a total amount of evidence to make a conclusion.

Not to leave the canines out of the picture, another American based study conducted in 2005 shows that patients diagnosed with heart failure were noted to have some significant improvement in heart and lung function. It's safe to absorb those animals in general, specifically the domesticated ones, to provide a wide array of positive impact and health benefits.

Although these studies provide a new kind of intervention that is basically risk free like surgery or medications, there are still a few skeptics who believe there is no definite evidence of these findings. For instance, it's possible that cat owners in general are most likely to lead an already stress-free lifestyle or just are not easily affected by anxiety. There was no particular study on the practices of the cat owners alone so the study could not shed any light on the speculation.

Another cause for skepticism is a published journal stating that cat owners have a more likely chance to have heart attacks than dog owners. Although surprising, it also makes a lot of sense as many people are more allergic to felines than canines.

Veterinarians however, provide a more understandable reason as to why cats are more stress-relieving than their canine counterparts. Because cats are small animals, they like to be petted. Petting animals is said to not only relieve stress but also lower blood pressure.

On the other hand, since dogs are highly active and possibly larger, they need more attention and thus, leading to a more likely elevated stress level. Cats can practically take care of themselves, whereas dogs need regular exercise through daily walks and active play. It is good to note however, that a dog's active lifestyle promotes much needed exercise to their humans as well, facilitating a means for a healthy heart.

Pioneers in Art Therapy

You can say that art therapy happened by chance somewhere in the mid of last century. The first experiment with art as a form of therapy took place by chance early in the Second World War when the artist Adrian Hill was recovering from tuberculosis in a Sussex sanatorium. He turned to his art as a way of passing the time creatively, and began introducing other patients to painting and drawing to take their minds off their illnesses and traumatic wartime experiences.

To his surprise, Hill found that not only were they enthusiast, but that they used their pictures to express their fears and anxieties, and the frightening scenes they had witnessed. Unintentionally, he had become Britain's first art therapist.

Another pioneer was Irene Champernowe, who studied psychotherapy under the Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Gustav Jung. She was impressed by Jung's use of painting and modeling to help patients express their unconscious feelings, and was herself helped through an emotional crisis.

In 1942, Irene and her husband set up a center for 'psychotherapy through the arts' at their country house, where they employed artists, musicians and dancers as well as medical experts.

Although they worked in very different ways – Hill as an enlightened art teacher and Irene as a psychotherapist – they laid some of the foundations for the profession of art therapy in Britain. As a result of their work and that of followers such as Edward Adamson, the first artist to be employed full time in a psychiatric hospital, the British Association of Art Therapists was established in 1963.

Enterprise Systems as a Strategic Growth Initiative

Over the past decade Enterprise Systems or commonly known as ERP have become ubiquitous in most large companies. Such as the rapid growth of ERP since the late nineties that some of the companies which develop and sell these Enterprise Application packages also happened to be among the largest software companies based on annual revenue and they seem to be continuously growing. Today Enterprise Systems not only include software which enables your organization to perform business operations but the packages also incorporate a large amount of industry specific business functionalities which will ensure that you do not have to do too many customizations to make the package suitable to your business operations . This verticalisation helps organizations adopt the system faster and too a large amount help provide growing organizations by providing a framework of processes for their business.

One of the distinct advantage of using an Enterprise System is that that provides an integrated solution for the entire business. Typically organizations which are adopted to Information technology early in the cycle would have taken the best of breed solutions for specific business needs such as accounting or inventory management which although addresses the needs of the particular processes can not communicate with systems working on some other process in the same organization . Thus the organization is saddled with multiple and disparate systems. Larger organizations who adopted information technology initially had complex blocks of software built for their own specific needs, this was with an understanding that the process would not change so build a software to suit the process. Not only have these custom-built applications become difficult to manage but they also pose unique challenges in terms of upgrade or adaptation to the latest technology standards. A ERP on the other hand not only provides a full integrated solution for all aspects of business it also comes with its framework of upgrades to changing technology. These upgrade paths are typically defined by the Enterprise Systems vendor.

The other distinct advantage of an ERP package is that most of the standard business functions and operating processes are built into the software code, thus reducing the time required to understand process related issues of software implementation and also providing the organization with a standard framework of processes to use which enable the organization to adopt industry best practices faster. But this advantage of ERP is where some of the problems of the ERP initiatives also begin.

It is important for the organization leadership to understand that the ERP package is not just about automating business functions, but it is also going to force its own logic on the business. This could have consequences ranging from resistance by functional managers who have carefully developed a particular process over a few years now being asked to change it to disastrous results of the organization not being able to use the implemented Enterprise System because of its inability to change its process Egypt adopt to the process built into the software. Since the system offers a standardize process for doing business and most organizations in the same industry and in the similar product usually use the same Enterprise system, how do you maintain your strategic differentiation. What will happen to all the carefully built processes which were nurtured and secretly guarded to give your company a competitive advantage one the Enterprise System is implemented.

From the perspective of the organizations leadership it has to be understood that ERP implementation is not a technology initiative but a strategic initiative which will change the way the organization does its business. As a corollary it is also important that the ERP implementation initiative has Executive Sponsorship at the Senior Management level and has the involvement of the business unit heads, it should not be an initiative to be undertaken by the IT Team of the company.

The few important questions that immediately come up are:

What are the senior management people or the business unit heads expected to contribute in the ERP implementation initiative?

Are Executives required to only sponsor budgets and review progress or is there a more useful utilization of Executive time to ensure the success of the ERP intiative?

What specific decisions or processes help in ensuring the right decisions are taken for the success of the intiative?

The rest of the article discusses areas which the Executive sponsor need to be involved in to ensure that the ERP initiative is on the right track

ERP Readiness Assessment:

The ERP readiness assessment process is aimed at understanding the readiness of the organization to undertake an ERP implementation initiative. As stressed earlier this is not a technical evaluation of the organizations readiness although some aspects are assessed. This assessment approaches ERP as a strategic initiative.

The initial ERP readiness assessment has to use both qualitative information about the organization on overall dimensions which affect all sections of the organization and its stakeholders. The qualitative information relating helps evaluate the readiness of an organization to go in for a full fledged ERP implementation and understand the various gaps which need to be fixed before the organization embarks on the ERP initiative. Some of the dimensions which need to be taken into account are:

1. Organisational Vision

2. Structure, Hierachy and Work Culture

3. Current Business Processes and Process maturity

4. Goals and objectives of using IT

5. Current state of IT Infrastructure

This initial assessment need not touch upon any of the specific functional areas like Finance & Accounting or Sales & Receivables as the objective is not to get information on how the specific process is managed and it needs not specifically look which type of technology or Package has to be used for ERP implementation. This kind of assessment, conducted internally or through an external consultant, is useful for mid-market growing organizations that need to assess their internal readiness for a successful ERP implementation and want to analyze the gaps in their approach towards an ERP initiative as against the present condition of their organization. The recommendation could be looking for specific criteria in the ERP implementation or could also be a decision to hold the ERP implementation to some organizational initiatives are implemented.

The Go-Ahead decision on the ERP initiative

Once you have assessed the readiness of your organization to accept an full fledged ERP initiative it is time to make the crucial decision on going ahead with an ERP initiative. In mid-sized organizations since the ownership patterns are typically different as compared to large global corporations, the decisions can be expected to be much quicker. The decision of the Executive Team to Go-Ahead with the ERP implementation should include the following criteria.

Spend on ERP & IT Initiatives

The ERP implementation will be the critical part of the all IT initiatives in your organization. Typically for mid-sized businesses an IT spend of anything above 1% of annual revenues would be considered progressive. For the financial year you are implementing the ERP pacakage you may have budget a higher amount of upto 3% of your annual revenue. This is a crucial decision and the involvement of the CFO / Head of Finance therefore becomes important.

Processes which will be included in the ERP Initiative

This requires a critical evaluation of what is core to the business and inter-dependencies of the processes. Whether the processes are already covered by another legacy application is a consideration. Understanding which processes will be covered by the ERP initiative also help in the package and vendor evaluation which we will discuss in the next stage.

Change Impact

Whether you are using an IT application currently or not it is a fact that the ERP implementation is going to change the way the business is being done. The most critical impact will be on the processes being covered by the ERP. A typical way of communicating the change impact and getting buy in for the change processes is to involve the managers handling the key business process. But in many cases managers themselves may not be the actual users of the system and therefore the involvement of key users of the system post-implementation is critical. The other aspect of the change impact will be the implications of de-staffing or redeployment of staff in key processes.

Organizing the Internal Team for the initiative

It is normal for the ERP implementation to be sponsored by an executive member at the CxO level of the organization and be lead by the senior IT manager. But in addition to the sponsor and the project lead, a large team needs to be constituted to ensure the implementation covers every aspect of the organizations business. Key members of this team would be the Senior Accountants who would bring in their perspective not only costs but also of how various processes and any changes in them impact the financials of the company and the HR Manager who needs to be in the know of the required organizational changes and re-structuring, stimulating key managers and staff to be a part of ERP implementation either full time or as an additional responsibility is another reason.

Managers handling key functional areas or business processes are essential members of the team. One of the issues faced will be that the managers in particular functional area are not often the people using the system and can therefore contribute little to the initiative. It is advisable to hand-pick key staff who have a very good understanding of the processes and have suitable adaptability to technology to be a part of the full time team, they would often look at the inclusion in the team as a reward.

ROI Assessment

ROI of ERP is a very tricky task which most IT managers and ERP vendors tend to skirt. In some of the larger organization the view that is gaining ground today is that ERP is an essential part of the organization infrastructure cost and there is there is no reason for assessing ROI, just like you do not assess ROI of the building and facilities used by your company. The reason why ROI is tricky and difficult, are due to a large number of intangible benefits gained through streamlined processes, better availability of information and competitive advantages are hard to assess, the data required would take months to gather. The Costs which need to be considered in the ROI assessment are not just the license costs and implementation costs for the system, but also cost of training, opportunity cost of internal team and costs in support. The revenue advantages gained could be directly quantifiable based on reduction in cost or improvement in productivity, like reduction in staff or elimination of paper work which is easily measurable or could be seen in terms of improved opportunities for future accrual, like better time to market for products or improvement in manufacturing practices.

It needs to be understood that the ERP is going to change the way of doing business and therefore the risks are not technology risks but business risks. They could disrupt the operations and cost considerable dollars in loss of time and opportunity. The executive team has to have before them the assessment of risks along with the planned risk mitigation strategies. This could cover organizational issues like re-training of staff for the new system, re-structuring the organization due the anticipated changes in process or ensure availability and uptime of mission critical systems.

Package Evaluation and Selection:

The success of the ERP implementation in the short term and for the future depends heavily on the selection of the Enterprise Systems packages to be used. While it is always an attractive proposition to go in for the best brand names in the Enterprise Systems space, the decision has to be made based on the suitability of the package for your business and your strategic objectives.

Some of the questions which need to be answered are

Does the financial strength and long term goals of the Enterprise Systems Vendor match your companys expectation?

This is important from the perspective of the vendor being around for some time in the future to support the package implemented and also the problems in upgrade and migration it would cause if the ERP vendor were not in position to support the system or still still sell off to another Enterprise Systems company.

How easy is the system to use?

This has an impact on the acceptance of the system by employees and the cost of training.

What are the functionalities and features the product has to offer?

This is where you need to do a detailed analysis of what the product offers against what you need for your organization.

Ease of customization?

One size does not fit all and same is true for processes. So although standard processes can be used, to achieve distinct advantage it is necessary for these processes to be customized for the business, the software package should provide the ability to customize and tweak the package to suit your business.

What is the cost of acquisition, implementation, support and upgrade?

What are the past implementations of this technology?

What space of technology do they work in?

Do they use the latest standards in technology like Web Services, SOAP etc

If you are beginning from a scratch, the package evaluation process is not only critical to the entire implementation but also the foundation for the rest of the ERP implementation initiative. It requires not only careful planning and research but may need extensive professional help from outside consultants specializing in this area. Depending on the size of the organization and the nature of the final deliverable ranging from just documentation of evaluation criteria to actually selecting and buying the right Enterprise System, the process could take anywhere between 6 weeks to 6 months.

Implementation Partner selection process:

The selection of the vendor could be performed in tandem or later than the package selection process. It could have been recommended by the package vendor or be based on your own independent evaluation. In certain case the implementation partner can be selected first based on their expertise and breadth of knowledge in Enterprise Systems and be involved in the process of package selection.

Some of the important aspects which need to be considered in addition to their cost and the experience in implementing Enterprise Systems are:

What is their experience in your vertical or line of business, will they have the ability to understand your business issues?

What are the profiles of consultants, analysts or technical specialists who are ready to offer for your implementation?

What are the range of services and nature of the services offered by the implementation partner?

What has been their past track record in project delivery?

What kind of warranties, risk mitigation plans and business continuity assurances do they offer?

Going through a proper readiness assessment, having taken the right decision and having selected the Enterprise System and the implementation partner. The organization is now on the right track to start the ERP implementation. Time and patience are required to make the right decisions and the Executive time should be willing to expend both if the ERP implementation has to be successful.

Children’s Brain Tumor and Brain Cancer Awareness Opens Doors for Support, Education and Research

Every year, an estimated 3,400 children in the United States are diagnosed with a brain tumor or brain cancer. Approximately one third of these children will survive no more than five years, making brain and spinal cord tumors the deadliest of all childhood cancers.

These kinds of tumors are considered to be the toughest childhood cancers to treat successfully due to several factors, including:

  1. Their precise cause is unknown;
  2. There are many different kinds of children’s brain and spinal cord tumors;
  3. Because the disease is rare and tissue samples of tumors are small, it takes time to test and validate new treatment options;
  4. Doctors and researchers are dealing with a growing child’s brain and body, so they must first ensure they avoid harming the child; and
  5. Funds for research and treatment options are limited, due to the relatively low rate of incidence, compared to other childhood cancers and diseases.

Today, across America…

Nine families will learn their child has a brain or spinal cord tumor;

A mother will grieve that her instincts about her child’s health were right;

A father will allow himself to cry, but only alone in the shower;

A six-year old child may try to grapple with her mortality.

Three families across America will mourn the loss of their child to a brain or spinal cord tumor. Friends, family and community will try to make sense of an untimely death and the unfulfilled promise of a life. At the same time, these same friends, family and community will join to celebrate the joy a child’s life brought to them, albeit brief and difficult.

Six families across America will transition to survivorship;

Parents will be grateful for another good MRI;

A mother will be too exhausted from providing constant care to her child to simply write checks to pay bills;

A father will again adapt his day, family and life to a new definition of normal, unlike any he had previously envisioned;

A sibling will wonder whether her parents will ever pay as much attention to her as they do her afflicted sister;

A survivor on the brink of adulthood will wonder if he’ll ever date, marry or have a family.

There is hope for these children, as the survival rate has increased significantly over the past twenty years, with approximately 25,000 survivors living in the U.S. today. However, “survivorship” for children with brain or spinal cord tumors isn’t as bright as the survivorship that is celebrated with some other cancers. Two-thirds of those afflicted will suffer late effects such as cognitive damage, physical challenges and social isolation. In addition, measures such as unemployment are much more dismal among pediatric brain tumor survivors than among other pediatric cancer survivors.

Families facing this dreadful disease need help. They need resources for education, services, networking, and just plain emotional support. There are several non-profit organizations, such as the Children’s Brain Tumor Foundation that offer programs and assistance to these families in a variety of ways.

In addition, these organizations are tireless in their efforts to secure funding in support of ongoing research of the causes, treatment options, and possible cures of these deadly killers. A quick Internet search can offer up a plethora of resources that will fit the needs of almost every family traveling down this very difficult path.

While significant progress has been made in the areas of research, diagnosis and treatment, much more work remains to be done. Awareness is the first giant step in the right direction. From awareness comes education, and from education comes research, donations, and hopefully, someday – a cure.

Bronchitis – What it is and How to Treat It

1. What Is Bronchitis?

Bronchitis is an inflammation of the large bronchial tubes, the main airway of the lungs. There are two types of bronchitis: Acute and Chronic. Chronic bronchitis occurs as a result of the lungs being constantly irritated and inflammed. Cigarette smokers generally end up developing chronic bronchitis, a serious disease of the bronchial tubes that lead to excessive mucus production and chronic cough. Because their airways are already damaged, treatment differs for people with chronic bronchitis. These people will need to see their provider right away.

Acute bronchitis (short term bronchitis) is caused by the same viruses that cause the common cold or the flu. This article deals with the symptoms and treatment of acute bronchitis.

2. What Are the Chief Symptoms of Acute Bronchitis?

  • cough
  • shortness of breath
  • chest tightness or wheezing

Bronchitis usually starts as a cold with symptoms such as sore throat, runny nose, or sinus infection which then settles in the chest. The large airway becomes inflammed and produces excess mucus (can be yellow or brown), cough and shortness of breath.

This cough can last 3 weeks. Bronchitis is sometimes referred to as "chest cold". In 90% to 95% of cases, it is caused by a VIRUS. Antibiotics kill Bacterial infections, not VIRAL infections. That is why antibiotics are generally not prescribed.

3. How Do I Know It Is Not Pneumonia?

In healthy, non-elderly adults, pneumonia is uncommon in the absence of certain signs. The classic signs of pneumonia include:

  • fever greater than 101
  • rapid heart rate
  • rapid breathing

In addition, listening to your lungs with a stethoscope will let your provider know if your lungs are likely to be infected.

A chest x-ray is generally not needed without your cough lasts for more than 3 weeks in the absence of other known causes such allergies, asthma or gastroesophageal reflux (GERD).

4. What Can Be Done To Help Me Feel Better?

Since antibiotics are useless in killing viruses, the key is to manage your symptoms. Expectorants to help you bring up phlegm, ibuprofen or acetaminophen, and sometimes an inhaler will help reduce your symptoms. Keep in mind though that your cough will probably be the last thing to clear up.

Changes in air temperature (going from a warm house to the outside), cigarette smoke, chemical odors etc. can often trigger a coughing spasm. That is why if you smoke, please try to stop during your illness (in fact, now might be the time to stop for good!).

You should start to feel better in 7 to 10 days, but your cough may linger for up to 3 weeks. If your cough has shown no improvement by then, you will need to see your provider.

Budget Meal Recipes: 2 Fantastic, Low-Cost Dishes

Love to cook but do not have the cash? Looking for a few easy recipes you can make now without breaking the bank? Here are 2 of the best budget meal recipes!

1. Chinese Roasted Pork

Great Chinese restaurants usually serve a fantastic slow-cooked pork dish, but they also tend to be way too expensive for a tight budget. To make this budget meal recipe yourself, buy a 5-6 pound hunk of pork shoulder or butt – these cuts are extremely economic and altogether delicious when cooked slow and low with the right seasonings.

To begin the cooking process, place the pork fat or skin-side down into a cold cast-iron or other sturdy pan. Turn the heat up to medium, and allow some of the fat to render out. After about ten minutes, remove the pork from the skillet and place it into a slow cooker along with the now-liquid fat that came off it.

Now, you simply need to make a great sauce for this budget meal recipe. Combine 1 cup of soy sauce with 2 cups of chicken broth, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 3 teaspoons Chinese five-spice, 2 tablespoons dried ginger, 2 tablespoons garlic powder, and 1-2 tablespoons of cayenne pepper. Pour this sauce over the meat in the crock pot, fill it near the rest of the way with water, and cook the roast on low for 8-10 hours.

2. Bacon-Blue Cheese Burgers

Want a restaurant-quality burger without the restaurant price? Try this budget meal recipe for for size, and send your taste buds on an unforgettable trip!

Start by cutting your bacon into bits and browning them in pan. While the bacon is cooking, assemble 2 pounds of 80% lean ground beef and add 2 tablespoons each of salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Once the bacon bits are done, add them to the pile along with about 6 oz. of blue cheese.

Now simply mix all of these ingredients together by hand and form 6 patties. Cook them on your grill until they reach the desired doneness. If you do not have a grill, or if it's too cold outside to use one, you can make burgers with a nice golden-brown crust on your cast-iron skillet or griddle pan.

If you have ever experienced jaw pain then you should be wondering what is TMJ. TMJ, or Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, is a condition that affects the joints of the jaw and is similar to arthritis in that is causes pain, swelling and mobility issues with the jaw joints. This can be difficult to deal with for obvious reasons and is often difficult to find a treatment for. Because TMJ has no known causes or treatments, you may have to try a variety of things in order to find something that you feel is working for you. The first thing you need to do is meet with your doctor to determine if there is an underlying cause for your TMJ, like another condition or problem. If so, then treating the underlying condition should relieve your TMJ symptoms.

If you speak with your doctor and can’t come to any conclusion, then you may need to see a specialist who knows how to work with TMJ patients and can help you get the symptoms under control, while trying to find ways to avoid future symptoms. This can be a frustrating task, but you should try to do what you can to control the pain and mobility issues as they will most likely be the two that affect you the most. If you can find a way to deal with the symptoms, then you will be able to concentrate on what is causing your symptoms in the first place or understand what TMJ really is and where it comes from.

Because there are no apparent causes or treatments for TMJ, it can be difficult to find a way to deal with the symptoms or put a stop to them in an overall way. If you are suffering from some of these symptoms and wondering what is TMJ, then it may be time to talk with your doctor about what you are experiencing and what you can do to feel better fast and find a way to deal with the pain, swelling and other symptoms associated with TMJ.

Got Painful Knees? Learn About Chondromalacia Patella and Your Treatment Options

If you have a painful knee, particularly when taking the stairs, you could have a condition called chondromalacia patella. Also known as patellofemoral pain syndrome or anterior knee pain, this condition is often caused by the irritation or injury to the cartilage under your kneecap.

Symptoms and Causes

Picture the cartilage behind the knee cap as a biologica friction reducer, reducing the friction of every step you make whether it is walking, running, jumping or even skipping. Repetitive movements, overuse of the knee or even injury can damage the cartilage over time. The cartilage in the knee joint itself is a shock absorber, the cartilage behind the knee cap is more to help with smooth movement / reducing friction) Because going up and down the stairs puts a lot of stress on the knee, this is when you most often feel the pain. You likely will feel pain if you sit for long periods with a bent knee or when you squat or kneel as well. Some people feel a grinding or crushing sensation during knee extensions.

Repetitive actions which stress the knee joints such as competitive jump roping or track and field events can cause chondromalacia patella. Injury such as a knee fracture or even a dislocation can be a contributing factor. Improperly aligned bones in the foot or knee are another cause of the anterior knee pain.

Specific activities, sex and age all are contributing risk factors of patellofemoral pain. Jumping and running sports strain or traumatise the knee. Women are more likely than men to develop this knee condition due to the wider pelvic region. In addition, young adults and teenagers tend to develop this condition because of their higher physical activity levels.

Treatment of anterior knee pain typically takes a multi-pronged approach using physiotherapy and orthotics in the form of prescription insoles in the shoes). There are specific exercises that can strengthen muscles around the knees, legs and hips that can help with rehabilitation. Exercise such as swimming, which does not put any stress on the knees is encouraged too. An orthopaedic professional will likely also expound on the virtues of ice therapy after exercise as well as over the counter pain relievers with anti-inflammatories.

Orthotic foot insoles and supportive braces for the knees can also go a long way towards reducing pain and increasing mobility. These feet arch supports and knee braces can help improve any misalignments as well as protect the knee joint itself. Only as a last resort would realignment surgery or arthroscopy be considered for a case of chondromalacia patella. Luckily, physical rehabilitation and orthotics often does the job of alleviating the knee pain so you can maintain an active lifestyle.

Treating a Fracture With Homeopathy

Treating a fracture with homeopathy can mean a rapid, pain-free healing. However, to achieve this, there are some facts you need to know. Some fractures, such as in the bones of your abdomen, are not able to be set in a cast. This means other measures have to be taken, such as immobilizing the patient to ensure true union.

This can be unpleasant and even inappropriate in the case of animals. But when a bad fraction can be set, it should be, to ensure the best possible healing. However, healthy healing relies on more than just the setting of the bone. It also needs a healthy immune system. And this can be lacking in many people.

By using the appropriate homeopathic medicine, you are raising your immunity to deal more quickly and more effectively with the healing. Study Reveals the Genetics Underlying Cerebral Palsy and Autism

Who does not enjoy mysteries, is not it? Although the choice or type of mysteries differs from person to person, what remains same is the love for mysteries in general, right? Indeed, all of us even have our favorite detectives, or the people who solve a mystery. Ranging from the quiet and gentle spinster Miss Marple of the St. Mary Meade village, who claims to be a "simple village resident" but is quite clear headed when any mystery (be it a simple one or a complex one), to the rather obsessively prim and proper, but still delightful Monsieur Poirot, who takes great pride in his mustache as well as his gray cells to the so-called "armchair lounger" and one of the most "incisive reasoning and most active agent in all of Europe" Sherlock Holmes, all of us have our own tastes.

However, their methods and personalities notwithstanding, what links the three of them is the power of their brains, or in other words, their mental faculties etc.

Basically speaking, mental faculties are what help us to distinguish between each other, for, otherwise, all of which would be the same. Indeed, in a gathering of any sort, what chiefly differentiates one person from another is his or her mental agility, which helps them carry the conversation forward in an interesting or stimulating or different manner.

Therefore, mental faculties are just about as important as our dresses or the clothes we wear.

However, just imagine if your mental faculties are not on par with the others, that is, you find yourself a bit slower or mentally lazier than the rest, or say, you find yourself not being able to catch up with the rest of the population then how would you feel?

Indeed, just imagine for a second, that the very scenario which you feel too scared to even imagine is what it is actually like for people who are afflicted with cerebral palsy and autism.

Now, what is cerebral palsy and what is autism? Read on to know further about the above mentioned medical conditions.

Cerebral palsy can be defined as a medical condition (specifically a muscle disorder) which leads to the atrophying of the muscle (that is, the decadence of the muscle), and also has other effects such, affecting the muscle tone, the movement of the individual afflicted with the disease and also the motor skills of that person.

Its main cause or causative effect can be linked to brain damage caused when the individual is about 3-5 years old or, before childbirth itself, such as in the case of an accident etc.

Autism can be defined as a disease wherein the afflicted individual is unable to achieve social success, that is, the afflicted individual is socially awkward.

However, hope is not lost, as recent studies have finally unearthed the genetic reasons behind both the diseases.

Read on to find out about the mentioned genetic reasons.

In a nutshell, it can be said that both the above diseases are caused due to the disruption as well as the inflammation of the neural cell pathways which come to and fro from the brain. Indeed, after studying about 182 patients, the scientists found that the disruptions and the inflammations of neural pathways seen in case of cerebral palsy also overlapped those of autism, thereby unearthing the common link between the two diseases as well the cause.
