How Much Sales Is Involved With Business Development?

If you ask a group of people what they think business development is, you would most likely get a few different answers. There is even a chance that your own view of business development and sales may be used interchangeably.

Business development involves more of a strategic approach such as strategy, marketing, customer management, and partnerships; these activities encompass about 75%-80% of the approach, and sales about 20%-25%.

When I get asked the question, does business development have something to do with sales? Yes, it does. Is it related to business growth? Most definitely it does. Does it have anything to do with business strategy? There is a good chance it does.

Business development is a culmination of these different activities but most importantly, it’s all about shifting to the point of view of the client. This will provide you with that new perspective and will have you balance your efforts across these key activities that you and your client will both need and address. Whenever you conduct your business development efforts make sure to take the perspective from the client’s point of view and try to develop a deeper understanding of what their problem is. Realize that the client only cares about one thing and that’s their own group or company’s survival and the problem that they are facing. The client is only interested in you if they identify a need/problem or pain point that you can solve and provide a solution for it. It’s the kind of value that you can provide them that will enable them to consider your firm for the project.

If your firm’s approach is strictly from a sales perspective, generally, the economy of scale is to grow as large as you can. The strategy is to sell your product or service with a clear price and value directly to an identifiable individual client.

From a Business development perspective, the economy of scale is much smaller because the approach to your service is more strategic with the intent to create a partnership. It entails cultivating a relationship with the client and provide a service that could be more cyclical by working through existing partner infrastructures.

In my 14+ years of professional experience in management consulting, business development has been stretched to encompass a wider variety of activities with the intent to stay smaller in size. In its most traditional definition it is all about developing partnerships, which often includes some sales. Whereas, strictly sales are more transaction oriented where scalability is the differentiator.

Varicose Veins Diet Treatment: 10 Foods to Avoid

Varicose veins or spider veins (because of the shape of the veins around the affected area- the veins around the affected area occurs in clusters) are usually found near the outer layer of the skin, and you can actually see them. The size of varicose veins varies – they can be quite small or very large.

The exact cause of varicose veins is not known – even by doctors! However, what is known is that the valves that circulate blood through the spider veins do not work properly, causing blood to clot in areas of the veins.

Some studies suggest that spider veins may be veins that are weak naturally, and could be easily inherited. Some other causes of varicose veins include: standing for long periods of time, obesity, age-related (they may become more visible as people grow older), and during pregnancy. On rare occasions, spider veins can be a symptom of tumors in the pelvis. Hence, when you notice it, it is best to see your doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

It is not possible to completely cure varicose veins, but it can be treated successfully. Treatment of varicose veins focuses on relieving the pain that comes with it and managing the many complications. One can use sclerotherapy to treat varicose veins. Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that injecting a saline solution into the vein. This procedure causes the vein to collapse, thereby allowing blood to flow to the non-varicose veins. Another method of treatment is the use of lightweight compression stockings to relieve the pain. You can also avoid sitting down with your legs crossed and avoid standing in one position for long periods. There are some extreme cases, where surgery is required to treat varicose veins. Additionally, regular exercise and losing weight can help treat varicose.

It is very important that you choose the kind of foods you eat carefully in order not aggravate the spider veins or put you at risk of developing them. Diet plays a major role in this regard, that is why I have listed below, ten foods that you should avoid if you are suffering from varicose veins.

REFINED FLOUR AND GRAINS

Fiber is very crucial in the vein wall formation and vital to the proper circulation of blood in the body. This is simply because fiber prevents constipation and formation of blood clot. Normally, grains (that are not refined) are believed to be good for varicose. However, refined grains have most of their fiber content removed. Foods like refined pasta, white rice, and other food made with white should be avoided.

SUGAR

Processed grains behave exactly like sugar in the bloodstream. There is no surprise, therefore, why refined sugar is listed as one of the foods to avoid. High intake of refined sugar does not only lead to obesity (which is one cause of varicose veins) but can as well result in other health complications. Refined sugar is also low in fiber which can lead to constipation.

HIGH-SODIUM FOODS

Intake of excess sodium can lead to more retention of water in the body. This is because the body retains more water so it can lower the sodium content in the cells, which eventually increases the quantity of blood that flows through the veins. The effect of this is that pressure is added to the veins and valves, weakening the walls of the vein and contributes to the formation of varicose veins.

ALCOHOL

Excess intake of alcohol can lead to the release of high levels of insulin just as foods high in carbohydrate and high- sugar foods. Excess alcohol consumption can also lead to venous disorder. When the insulin level in the body is high, the body is no longer unable to get rid of sodium, causing an increase of water in the body. Alcohol can also affect the way the body circulates blood because it attacks the ability of the liver to properly remove toxins and wastes in the blood. This causes the blood to be thicker than normal and become more viscous, weakening the leg veins even more.

SALTED FOODS

Salted foods or foods containing too much salt can make varicose veins worse.

GREEN VEGETABLES

Vitamin K is known to clot blood. However, when there is too much of vitamin K in the body, it makes the blood thick and makes blood circulation to the leg and other parts of the body difficult. Some of these green vegetables you should avoid include kale, spinach, collard greens, and cauliflowers.

Since obesity is one of the leading causes of varicose veins, the following foods should be avoided if you want to lose weight and prevent varicose veins:

SOY SAUCE

To ensure you a healthy vascular system, it is very crucial to maintain potassium levels high and sodium levels low. Therefore, to avoid high sodium levels, you must limit Soy Sauce intake or completely eliminate it from your diet.

WHOLE MILK

Gaining weights can as well also result in increased pressure on the lower legs veins and therefore increase the risk of varicose veins. You have to avoid packing on the pounds, fill your plate with nutritious, colorful foods and keep a reasonable daily calorie count. To avoid or prevent weight gain you have to stay clear of Whole milk foods.

Others include:

TROPICAL FRUITS

FRUIT JUICE

The Best Home Chest Workout

Many men like to develop their chest. It is something that people always notice so it is something that men really like to focus on when they exercise. If you go to the gym, there are several options for you to develop your chest muscles. But if you do not have time to go to the gym and you only exercise at home, your options become a bit limited. So what are the home chest workout options left for you?

The simplest way to develop your chest is to do pushups. Experts say that it is clearly the best exercise for your chest that you can do at home. You might think that it is very easy to do. Yes, the whole pushup workout plan for your chest is very simple but more often than not, people are doing it the wrong way. Here are some tips on how to do pushups correctly.

1. Assume a position position on the floor. You can do pushups from your knees or from your feet depending on how strong you are. Usually, for beginners, you can make a good form if you do pushups from your knees since it is less wobbly or less bouncy. Keep you thighs straight. Do not droop or pop up your butt.

2. Put you hands under yourself a shoulder width apart. Do not push up from your palms to avoid damaging the wrists. It is safer to do pushups on your fists. Just make sure that you do this on a carpeted surface or you support them with pillows.

3. Raise yourself up using your arms to make a straight line from your head down to your knees. This is the starting and ending position.

4. Lower your body to the ground until your elbows make a 90 degree angle. Keep them as close to your body as possible. Then raise your body up by pushing the ground. The recommended time is to spend two seconds going down and two seconds going up. There is no need to rush so as not to sacrifice form.

5. Repeat step number four multiple times.

As has been said above, pushup is a very good home chest workout. As you progress, you can move to more advanced forms of pushups to develop your chest further.

Using Hydrogen Peroxide For Yeast Infection

Whether you believe it or not, the use of hydrogen peroxide for yeast infection treatment has been proven to be true and quite effective. Vaginal yeast infection is among the more common conditions that women experience. In fact, according to statistics, about 75% of all women will be affected by the infection at some point. It may already be considered as an ordinary condition so don’t be alarmed. You’re not the only one who has the infection and certainly you will not be the last one.

Microorganisms that live on human skin and in the digestive track are the primary cause of yeast infection. Called Candida albicans, these microorganisms are naturally occurring and lives on the skin and inside your vagina. They are usually in small numbers, however some stimuli would trigger an overgrowth of Candida causeing the body to react resulting to an infection accompanied by itching, redness, irritations, and white or yellowish discharge.

Vaginal yeast infection is highly treatable so you don’t have to be overly concern. There are already a number of commercially available drugs which are quite effective in treating yeast infection. Home remedies also are quite good if you know what you’re doing. Hydrogen peroxide in particular is an easy home made solution to your yeast infection problems.

Just like Candida albicans hydrogen peroxide is already present in the vaginal areas. It’s already there working its best in putting the yeast infectious microorganism at bay. However, due to certain conditions, the environment in the area becomes suddenly favorable to the growth of Candida. Hydrogen peroxide generally helps eliminate bacteria and fungal infections. It is a natural enemy of Candida and thus can be utilized fully as a treatment procedure for the infection.

Since our body produces only very little hydrogen peroxide, you can help by purchasing commercially available ones in the local supermarket or in your neighborhood pharmacy. What you can do is mix a teaspoon of ordinary 3% hydrogen peroxide to a cup of water and apply it on the affected areas. Because hydrogen peroxide is produced naturally by the body, the chemical does not harm your vagina or the general health of your body.

What makes hydrogen peroxide very effective against Candida is the fact that peroxides breaks down into water and oxygen upon application. The oxygen helps the chemical application kill the fungal yeast infection. You need to be careful, however, when creating your own mix of hydrogen peroxide treatment solution. Too much hydrogen peroxide in the solution can cause a burning sensation in the affected areas. This burning sensation may likely to occur especially if the area has been inflamed or the infection is already quite serious.

A teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide on a cup of water seems to be an okay and safe mix. So far no bad reactions or complaints have been noted against this mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water for treating yeast infection.

You need to understand, however, the using the mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water is not meant to be a sole treatment solution for yeast infection. Natural remedies like this one is more effective when combined with other forms of treatment like proper diet and the use of other treatment techniques like the use of garlic paste, yogurt, and cider vinegar and water mix.

Other times, the condition might have reached an already critical stage that hydrogen peroxide for yeast infection treatment is no longer advisable. You need to consult a doctor and employ several other methods of treatment to cure your yeast infections.

Brain Injury Explained

There is a big possibility that a person will suffer from brain injury if he or she was involved in any kind of accident where the head will also be hit. The most common accidents resulting to brain injuries are different kinds of vehicular accidents and different kinds of slip and fall accidents. The severity variations from one case to another and it could be simple or complicated. Brain injuries are very serious as these could really affect the person's mobility and ability to do things. If you or any of your loved one had any kind of brain injury regardless of the cause and condition, you have the right to make a claim for brain injury benefits and compensation.

This could be a very difficult and traumatic experience for any person and anyone who is not used to this kind of situation should not attempt to get through this alone. The best thing to do is to seek the help of a professional lawyer. The lawyers are highly skilled especially when it comes to brain injury cases.

The brain is probably the most important part of the body because this serves as the main control of the whole body. All of the body's reactions to different factors usually come from the brain. If it becomes damaged, there will also be some significant changes in the other parts of the body and the body that will not be able to function properly. It is almost impossible for a person who is suffering from brain injury to tell and notice that there is something wrong with him or or with his brain. Oftentimes, people around him will be the ones who will notice this.

The competent lawyers could help you in pursuing a brain injury case against the party liable for what happened. The attorneys understand the seriousness of this problem and we already know what to do to win cases like this. They will personally talk to people who know the victim and those who were with the victim most of the time like family, relatives, friends, and collections. This step is essential because you have to build a proof or some kind of evidence that changes have been noticed about the way the victim talks, moves, or interacts with other people. These changes could also be used as proof of brain injury.

Aside from these changes, there are also some other symptoms that suggest brain injury. The patient would experience headaches, confusion, dizziness, vision problems, hearing problems, memory and mental problems, changes in daily routines like eating and sleeping, speech problems, and many more. If you or someone you know have brain injury due to some accidents resulting from other people's negligence, it is just right that you will receive the benefits that you deserve and these include the coverage for your medical treatment, hospitalization if needed, medicines, pain and Suffering, and other monetary losses.

There was once a case reported about athletes who have suffered from severe conversations that triggered to traumatic brain damages. Experts have conducted extensive studies on this matter and the results were very alarming. The concussions have damaged most part of the person's brain and there have been some changes to emotions, anger, sexuality, breathing, and they could also destroy the brain cells. It is believed that those discussions and the brain damage are some of the main reasons of the players' early death.

If a person's head is injured, there is a big risk to develop traumatic brain injuries. This kind of injury could totally disable a person's body and it could lead to early death. Vascular accidents, slips and falls, and assault are some of the most common causes of traumatic brain injuries. This needs immediate medical treatment and that could cost you a lot of money. If you have been injured due to someone else's fault, the lawyers will help you get due benefits and compensation.

The treatment depends on the severity of the case and fortunately, these treatments could bring back the brain's healthy and normal condition if given immediately. It is important to ensure that the patient has adequate supply of oxygen and the blood flow and blood pressure should also be monitored and maintained. The doctors will also check if the patient has fever, is conscious, able to respond, and other primary tests.

The Intracranial pressure will also be monitored because if the pressure gets too high, it could be very dangerous for the patient. If the brain and the skull have suffered massive damage or if there is an internal bleeding, a surgery might be performed. The type of surgery needed will be determined by the doctors depending on the condition of the patient's skull and brain.

Immediate treatment must also be given if the patient developed cerebral anoxia. This is a condition where oxygen could not go up into the brain due to lack or reduction of the blood supply that is responsible for carrying oxygen into the brain. This condition is also very dangerous because it could cause major damages to the brain and the brain cells. In case this ever happens to you or someone you know, seek medical help as soon as you can and call your lawyer immediately.

Are You Paralysed By The Fear Of Future Regrets?

Edith Piaf remains an icon and her best loved song, “Non, je ne regrette rien”, remains an anthem in part because of the issues that so many of us have with regret. If the emotionally vulnerable Parisian sparrow could live free from regrets then maybe the rest us can also.

Women who are just starting out on their journey of recovery from abuse are often stymied by the specter of future regret.

Curiously, that regret isn’t generally about wasting their time, love and energy on an emotional Neanderthal. Instead it’s about their own perceived failures in the relationship and the fear that they might yet realise that they have given up on a good thing.

(Quite why a ‘good thing’ would masquerade so resolutely as a bad thing defies explanation. But any woman who is prepared to believe in the fundamental goodness of her partner, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, should never accuse herself of a lack of optimism. Sure, it may be misplaced, but it proves that she has a capacity for unlimited optimism that she can begin to turn to her own advantage.)

Future regret is a worst-case scenario in which a woman views her unhappy relationship through rose coloured blinkers and sees a yet more distorted and selective reworking of reality.

Future regret is actually an expression of present fear: fear that she will never again encounter such a wonderful human being (truly); fear that life has nothing more to offer her, nor she to offer life; fear of the void that awaits her.

Abuse breeds fear, and fear breeds paralysis.

It’s powerful stuff. But where does it come from?

Abusive partners endlessly – and in all seriousness – tell women just how wonderful they, the abusers, are. They brainwash women into accepting a questionable worldview in which abused women have been blessed with the incredible, unrepeatable good fortune of being tolerated by a prince-among-men…

Now, suppose these women have already been subjected to a schematic vision of the world in which their alleged unworthiness is tolerated (just), by their (wonderful) parents or family members. Then, much of the groundwork has already been done, even before a prince-among-men (P-A-M) appears, croaking his endearing frog-like croak.

Given their lack of self-assurance, abused women assume that a P-A-M-free future is likely to be worse than reality à deux. They don’t think that this is actually an incredibly tall order. Abusive men are, after all, past masters at ensuring that things are as bad as they can get. (Some will continue to do so, even after the woman ends the relationship.)

Nevertheless, it is possible for abused women to create the future they want for themselves. All the more so once they realise that present fears cannot accurately predict future reality.

In “The Sedona Method”, Hale Dwoskin makes the telling observation: “Feelings only lie. They tell us we are going to get from letting go of them what we already have from holding on to them.” So it is with our fears and regrets. What we fear we will regret by letting go of a situation, is simply what we have by holding on to it.

As a general principle, people who instill in you a fear of what you might live to regret are precisely those who feel they stand to lose by what you might decide. Their (unspoken) fear is that you might spread your wings and fly, leaving them behind, earth-bound. In other words, in an undeniably neat maneuver, they have managed to dump their fear onto you, in the guise of your alleged future regret.

Once you can see how regret is designed to hamstring you, you can start to move forward into the unknown and the future free of your old fear.

Breathtaking Bunkbeds For Young Ones

Bunkbeds usually are spectacular for each and every kid as they're loads of fun. You will find a lot of fantastic reasons to purchase bunkbeds. Mothers and fathers will consider these really appealing when acquiring them. It is possible to turn these beds in to anything you would like it to be with alternatives for example futons on the lower bunks, and shades that lend a child's room a exciting and vibrant feel. Children can do massive amount of things with loft beds which can not be completed with standard beds. For instance hanging a bed-sheet from the above bunkbed that will give them a home, or possibly a hideaway, or a jail. A bunkbed offers youngsters a feeling of enjoyment, and comfort, and it furthermore provides the parents a good break. It lets them squeeze a couple of kids in one room without compromising the room which is significantly needed in scaled-down homes.

Some organizational methods utilized in the arrangement of lofteds are being utilized in homes globally on a daily basis. With dressers being built below the lower beds, and study tables currently being fastened to the underside of the beds, they are quickly turning into a multipurpose tool. This makes sure of not just a comfy location to get to sleep, however also a device that boosts the purpose of study supplies, PCs, and other models which will create the intellects of tomorrow. This will create more space along with giving the youngsters far more "breathing space" in the room which they do have. This presents the option for the little one quite a few opportunities of slumber parties, and stories for the reminder of his or her lifetime.

Because loft beds rise up, the bunks take up significantly less room compared to 2 classic kid's beds. With top to bottom space currently being under-utilized a lot more usually than not, this may give you a chance to tap into a new era of room management. Bunkbeds moreover look good as they come in quite a few diverse shades and sizes, and moreover a lot of different building materials. While the standard wooden frame mattress is the most trendy, metallic frame beds are becoming increasingly popular with the multiple designs and hues readily available in the present market. You will discover several security concerns connected with bunkbeds, particularly with smaller kids as they often tumble off from the top bunk more regularly compared to more mature ones.

With the classic, and modern-day designs, and the usefulness of loftbeds the choice to buy 1 is really a clear one. This will be a outlay that can not just enhance your kid's life with fun and joy, suddenheless also acts like a traditional yet renovated piece of art that could decorate your kids room for months and years ahead. When your little one grows out of a bunkbed why not test mid sleeper beds.

Baby Reflux Symptoms: Advice

Around 20% of babies are affected by acid reflux, also known as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), during the first nine months of life. The most common and visible symptom is spitting up after all or most meals in excessive volumes.

Almost all babies who suffer from GERD will get better by the time they are one year old. However until they grow out of this they are very difficult to care for and the condition will impact on the entire family; particularly because when the baby is up all night screaming mum, dad, other children and possibly neighbours won’t get much sleep either. There are treatments which can help but you should always consult your doctor or paediatrician before trying any of them.

The lower oesophageal sphincter is a muscle located at the bottom of the oesophagus where it meets the stomach. Once fully developed, the lower oesophageal sphincter will open to allow swallowing, vomiting and burping and close fully afterwards. Acid reflux is caused by this muscle being underdeveloped and relaxing too often, allowing stomach contents to go back up the throat. Gravity in particular can help with this problem and so if you believe your baby is suffering from GERD you should aim to keep his/her head at least 30% higher than their stomach.

The symptoms and severity of baby acid reflux vary from child to child. The most common visible symptom is spit up or vomit, however even this is not present in babies suffering from silent acid reflux. If your baby is suffering from acid reflux he/she may also try to avoid feeding by arching their back and neck, crying and screaming. This, accompanied with spitting up, can often lead to weight loss or poor weight gain. Babies with silent reflux, on the other hand, an often gain weight. This is because they will overfeed to temporarily soothe their throat and because they do not spit up. Babies with acid reflux will also cry or scream in pain for no apparent reason, frequently and for excessive periods of time; usually this will be during or soon after feeds.

GERD infants often flail their arm around erratically, this is due to the severe pain they experience across their chest or upper abdomen. Almost all babies with acid reflux will wake up constantly throughout the night, generally they will also cry out in pain. The easiest way to help you baby in getting a good nights sleep is to angle their crib or bed by at least 30% so that their head is higher than their stomach, this is in order to allow gravity to help keep their stomach contents down.

Acid reflux babies should be diagnosed by a doctor as soon as possible. Diagnosing GERD can often be difficult and so you should be prepared to explain the symptoms you have identified along with when they normally appear.

 Abstract:

Bacillus  cereus group represents  important  medical, biodefense and economically potential importance microbes. The Bacillus cereus group comprises six members: Bacillus anthracis, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus mycoides, Bacillus pseudomycoides, Bacillus thuringiensis and Bacillus weihenstephanensis, which have have a marked impact on human activity. They are not distinguished from each other, but they formed one group with the same sequence of the HV region (hypervariant region). In B. cereus group the chromosomes of the sequenced members are extremely similar. B.cereus and B.anthracis are important pathogens of mammals, including humans. Our novel isolate, Bacillus cereus strain 2479 can degrade Trichloroethylene (TCE) efficiently through bioremediation which is an environmental pollutant and carcinogen, widely used in industries during metal degreasing. However, till to date there are no report on Bacillus cereus for its activity of degrading TCE.

Bacillus anthracis:

Demonstration of the high genetic relatedness of B. thuringiensis, B. anthracis and B. cereus has led to the suggestion, that these are members of a single species of B. cereus sensu lato. B. anthracis can be distinguished from B. cereus and B. thuringiensis through microbiological and biochemical tests. B. anthracis isolates are non-hemolytic, non-motile, penicillin sensitive, susceptible to γ-phage and produce a poly-γ-D-glutamic acid capsule. For these characters B. anthracis can be distinguished from B.cereus and B. thuringiensis. In recent years, it is considered as potential biological weapon.

 Bacillus cereus:

Bacilus cereus is an important food borne pathogen, which causes two distinct types of food poisoning i.e. diarrhoea and emesis caused by two different types of toxins and also fatal meningitis. This organism is also responsible for spoilage of different food products. As B. cereus is a spore former organism, there is a risk of its transmission through heat-treated and processed food products. B.cereus is a normal soil habitat and frequently isolated from a variety of foods, including vegetables, dairy products and meat. It causes food- poisoning. It contains cereulide (emetic toxin), which is a small ring peptide synthesized non-ribosomally by a peptide synthetase. Beside this B.cereus strain also used as a tool of Bioremediation.  As for example, B.cereus strain GMHS capable of degrading 2-picoline, which is a derivative of pyridine. Our isolate strain 2479 is being used to degrade TCE.

B.thuringiensis:

B.thuringiensis is extensively used in the biological control of insects. B.thuringiensis is phenotypically distinguished from B.cereus by formation of intracellular protein crystals during sporulation. Based on the phylogenetic homogeneity, 86 strains of B. thuringiensis could be closely clustered together in four different groups (Bt group I-IV) at a DNA similarity rate of 93%.

Bacillus weihenstephanensis:

Bacillus weihenstephanensis is very  intesting in nature because it can grow at 4–7°C but not at 43°C and was isolated from milk and meat products and alpine soil. B. weihenstephanensis was closely related to B. mycoides and B. weihenstephanensis may play a role in spoilage and poisoning of low temperature stored and minimally processed foods. B. cereus can grow at refrigerated temperature and spore can survive at high temperature. This organism is known to resist even pasteurization process of milk.

Bacillus mycoides:

B. thuringiensis is closely related to B. anthracis and Bacillus mycoides and is regarded as a subvariant of B. cereus based on genotypic data. A large aerobic, gram-negative, rarely gram-positive or gram-variable Bacillus that produces endospores. Colonies appearing on agar medium are distinctive rhizoid. It is ubiquitous in nature being found in soil, dust, water, plants, humans and animals. Usually considered nonpathogenic for humans

So, we conclude, Bacillus cereus group is versatile in nature, harmful as well as beneficial for human being.

Key words: Bacillus, cereus, 2479, Trichloroethylene.

Bipolar Marriage – Is it Possible?

Marriage is a difficult proposition. You both have to learn how to communicate effectively. You have to meet each other’s needs, intimately and otherwise. However, when one of you has bipolar disorder, you’re climbing up a large mountain – one that may seem insurmountable at times. Is it possible to survive in a marriage when one of the people has bipolar disorder? I believe so, but it will take work on both sides.

Just like in a “regular” marriage, communication is the key. You must be able to share your thoughts and feelings with each other. If you have started off as friends, talking over endless cups of coffee in cheap restaurants, then this will benefit you now. Stay friends first. This will help you to communicate openly and honestly with each other. Don’t just stuff those important feelings – share them with each other.

Supporter, don’t try to “fix” your spouse. They may have a “broken brain,” but they are not a broken person. Although they may be moody at times, your unconditional love and understanding is what they need – much more than another therapist, psychiatrist, or mother. Just be a supportive spouse, and you will be meeting your loved one’s fundamental needs.

Allow your loved one the freedom to be themselves. They may have to deal with the “outside world” during the day (at a job or volunteer work), but when they get home, you will see the real person behind the masks they sometimes have to wear. Just be aware that someone with bipolar disorder may take things out on the person closest to them, and you may have to bear the brunt of your spouse’s frustration and anger. Please don’t take this personally. If you are aware of it ahead of time, you won’t experience your own frustration, anger, and other negative feelings, and you will be able to be more supportive.

Since you are the person closest to them, you will be the first to notice triggers, signs and symptoms, and any other behavior out of the ordinary for your spouse that might indicate an oncoming bipolar episode. You may want to talk to them if this happens and point out these things, hoping that they would agree to call one of the professionals on their treatment team.

Should your spouse, indeed, go into a bipolar episode, be as supportive as possible, showing your unconditional love and reassuring them that you will be waiting for them. Being hospitalized can be a very frightening experience for anyone with bipolar disorder, and they can feel very much alone. In the case of a married couple, many times the couple has not been separated much, so the person with bipolar disorder may feel lonely and isolated. You may be able to combat this with encouraging letters and visits to your spouse.

Above all else, be honest, open, and loving with your spouse. Remember why you fell in love with them in the first place. Try to separate them from their bipolar disorder. They are not their disorder, and it is not their fault that they have it. If you can remember this, and remember your wedding vows, then during the “…or for worse” part of the marriage, you will be able to love and support your spouse unconditionally. Is a bipolar marriage possible? Absolutely!

What Is Type 2 Diabetes And How To Manage It

Diabetes is a life-long disease that affects the way your body handles glucose in your blood.

Causes

Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, facilitates the movement of glucose absorbed from food in blood into cells.

Patients with Type II diabetes have insulin resistance and the normal metabolism involving insulin becomes disrupted..

In the initial phase, the pancreas will compensate by making more insulin to maintain normal metabolism but eventually, due to inadequate compensation, sugar will build up in the blood.

Causes of type 2 diabetes include:

  • Genes. Certain individuals have a genetic predisposition to develop type 2 diabetes
  • Obesity. Obesity causes insulin resistance.
  • Metabolic syndrome. People with insulin resistance often have a group of conditions including high blood glucose, extra fat around the waist, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol and triglycerides.
  • Hepatic Causes. Liver abnormalities can cause abnormally high blood sugars
  • Abnormal beta cells. Abnormal pancreatic beta cells (the cells that produce insulin) can cause Diabetes Type II

Risk Factors and Prevention

  • Age: 45 or older
  • Family members with Diabetes
  • Ethnicity: African-American, Alaska Native, Native American, Asian-American, Hispanic or Latino, or Pacific Islander-American are all predisposed to develop Diabetes Type 2
  • Heart and blood vessel disease
  • High blood pressure, even if it’s treated and under control
  • Low HDL (“good”) cholesterol
  • High triglycerides
  • Being overweight or obese
  • Gestational Pregnancy
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Depression
  • A sedentary lifestyle
  • Smoking
  • Stress
  • Insufficient or excessive amounts of sleep

What Can You Do?

  • Lose weight. 7% to 10% of weight loss can cut your risk of type 2 diabetes by half.
  • Exercise. Moving muscles use insulin. Thirty minutes of brisk walking a day will cut your risk by almost a third.
  • Eat right. Avoid highly processed carbs, sugary drinks, and trans and saturated fats. Limit red and processed meats.
  • Quit smoking.

Symptoms

  • Excessive thirst
  • Excessive amounts of urine
  • Blurry vision
  • Increased irritability
  • Tingling or numbness in your hands or feet
  • Feeling tired all the time
  • Poor wound healing
  • Recurrent yeast infections

Getting A Diagnosis

Blood tests can be performed to determine diabetic statuses.

A1C: This gives an indication of the sugar control over the last 3 months from the point of blood evaluation.

Fasting plasma glucose: This gives a direct measure of the blood glucose level at the point of blood evaluation..

Oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT): This evaluates how your body handles excessive sugar.

Long-Term Effects

Over time, high blood sugar can damage and cause problems with your:

  • Heart and blood vessels
  • Kidneys
  • Eyes
  • Nerves, which can lead to trouble with digestion, the feeling in your feet, and your sexual response
  • Wound healing
  • Pregnancy

The best way to avoid these complications is to manage your diabetes well.

  • Take your diabetes medications or insulin on time.
  • Check your blood glucose.
  • Eat right, and don’t skip meals.
  • See your doctor regularly to check for early signs of trouble.

Child Obesity Statistics – Why The Numbers Are So High

The people today weigh more than their parents and grandparents when they were on the same age. Obesity is a global problem that is extremely serious. It is even classified as epidemic by some. The child obesity statistics are really shocking not only due to the large percentage of obese children. It has been estimated that an obese adolescent has a higher risk of suffering from heart attack, stroke or Type II diabetes much earlier in life. In order for solutions of the problem to be found the causes of obesity has to be assessed first.

The numbers show that 19.6% of the children of 6 to 11 years of age are obese. The percentage of extremely overweight adolescents between 12 and 19 is 18.1%. These are the numbers from the main child obesity statistics, but there are independent studies that claim the percentage of obese children is over 25%. These figures are way too large and they are expected to increase in the following years. But what are the main reasons behind this threatening statistical data?

Perhaps the main reason for child obesity is the lack of sufficient physical activity. In the past the kids used to eat candy and cookies as well, but they also used to play outdoors almost all the time irrespective of the season. The games usually involved a lot of exercise. At present the children are obsessed with computer games which require no physical effort whatever.

The poor diet is also a factor for child obesity. Most kids nowdays love junk food and eat it almost all the time. The fried and sweet foods from the fast food restaurant are also quite popular. The youngsters do not have healthy eating habits. They snack every time and drink primarily sugary carbonated beverages. At the same time they disregard he fruit and the vegetables in particular simply because they are not equally tasty.

Another serious problem is that most families do not have healthy nutrition habits in general. If the parents are overweight and they place their child on a diet, he / she will be extremely unlikely to keep it. Even though there are healthy nutrition educational programs in most schools, the kids can not simply reject the food they are served at home.

The child obesity statistics have high numbers for yet another psychological reason. The lack of self esteem, the stress and the depression lead to greater food consumption. This problem is really serious with adolescents as they are particularly sensitive about the opinion of others.

Learn how exactly Vitiligo starts

Vitiligo is well heard terminology for white patches. These white patches of hypo-pigmentation may start on different parts of body. Mostly sun exposed area like face, hands, feet, arms and lips are affected by Vitiligo. Area around  mouth, nostrils, navels and genital are also common sites of hypo-pigmentation. Many theories state that these white patches mainly appear on body folds and opening of body.

The white patches are the only symptoms of Vitiligo also known as leucoderma. The skin texture of the affected parts also remain same as before the onset. Therefore it is hard to diagnose this disease. Also no pain or itching is experienced by Vitiligo patients. Thus, this is the only reason as no vitiligo treatment can cure it.

It has been observed for many people the hypo-pigmentation starts from a small area and than gradually increase with  white patches appearing on different parts of body. For some people the hypo-pigmentation remain same for years or even decades.  For such cases Vitiligo cure is possible in the sense that the person can be re-pigmented to larger extent as compared to others.

Sometimes the hair growing on affected area may also turn white. In very seldom cases the color of retina and eyesight is affected due to this skin disorder. Some people also complain change of color inside their mouth, but this is in very rare cases which are very severe and so the re-pigmentation is quite difficult to be attained by such cases.

Vitiligo cure is possible if it is diagnosed on time, so don’t ignore a white patch and consult to a doctor as soon as you encounter one, as it is better to nip it in the bud. But hypo-pigmentation is  not just sign for Vitiligo many other diseases like HIV, Oral cancer and leprosy has same sign so it is highly recommended not to ignore any irregular white patch on any part of body and get checked as soon as possible.

Keratosis Skin Problem – Overview of Different Types

The keratosis skin condition is an overgrowth of keratin on the skin. Keratin is a tough and fibrous insoluble protein that is the main structural component of the epidermis (the outer layer of skin), nails, and hair. When the keratin component of the skin grows faster than it should then a keratosis develops. There are several different forms of this skin problem.

Keratosis pilaris is perhaps the most well known. Many people refer to this type of keratosis as chicken skin or chicken skin rash or goose flesh. The reason for this is that the skin that is affected by pilaris has the appearance of the skin on a chicken or like goose bumps. The bumps are small, flesh colored or white, and many of them are usually present at once. In some people, the small bumps may be red and inflamed. Often the bumps are described as acne-like or as having a sandpaper texture. They are painless and generally do not itch.

Seborrheic keratosis is a skin growth that is often mistaken for skin warts. However, this type of keratosis is not a wart because it does not contain the wart-causing virus. The growth is benign and will not progress to skin cancer. It is not contagious and the cause for the most part is unknown. There is a suspected hereditary and sun exposure link, although these growths can appear on non-sun exposed skin areas as well.

Actinic keratosis is sometimes referred to as solar keratosis, sunspots, actinic keratoses, or AKs. It is a growth that appears on the surface or slightly beneath the surface of the skin. The growth or horn may be crusty or scaly and generally has a rough texture and may be flat. The color of the growth can vary and may be the skin tone of the individual or red, tan, or pink in light or dark shades.

Senile keratoses symptoms are characterized by papules or small flat bumps rising slightly from the skin’s surface. These papules have sharp outlines and are generally gray or grayish black in color, but they have been described as being red or pink as well. The growths are often named senile warts because they can be soft and wart or mole like in appearance. The affected skin may be dry with localized scaling of the skin. The growths are not painful.

Actinic cheilitis is related to actinic keratosis, but the lips are the target area affected. The symptoms include lips that are always dry or chapped and crack often. The lips are also very wrinkled and painless lesions, sores, or ulcers are present on the lips. Although red patches may be present, the affected lips are often pale pink with whitish plaques present. Puffiness of the lips is common as well.

Follicular keratosis can be referred to by many other names. Examples are keratosis follicularis, darier disease, dariers disease, or darier’s disease, to name a few. This type of keratosis originates from the hair follicle in the skin. It commonly affects the hands, face (ears, sides of the nose, forehead), scalp, neck, chest, back, thighs, groin, and abdomen. It is hereditary and this genetic disorder is considered rare.
