Learn to Kill Your Stutter

While it isn’t generally a speech problem that effect every body – a stammer is a massive problem for babies and children, teenagers and grownups today. A stammer can cause even the most confident person to avoid conversations with co-workers and friends and and avoid interacting with with other acquaintances for fear of embarrassment. In reality, a stutter can actually ruin anybody’s life.

Even though being cursed with a stammer truly is a terrible ailment and often a majorly perplexing affliction, the reality is, it’s easily achievable to get rid of a stutter. The fact is, it’s completely possible to totally quit stuttering and wave bye bye to stuttering for ever.

Now you may be thinking that this does sound too good to be true. Be that as it may the the whole truth (and nothing but the truth) is that, being cursed with a stutter is a completely psychological issue and an issue that can easily be fixed as long as the stem of the issue is revealed.

While it more than likely does seem like it, you’re not by yourself with this stammer. According to statistics somewhere near 1% of today’s population can’t stop stammering but the sad truth is only a tiny of this percentage of sufferers will really attempt to cure their stutter.

While that small minority of stutter sufferers who make the decision to kill their stammer will go on to live happy, fulfilled lives, the great majority of the sufferers who don’t end their stutter will drop further into the background, keeping off as much social enjoyment as is humanly possible.

Is the real solution to take stuttering therapy classes?

In truth, therapy is the answer – but this does not really need to mean private professional therapy. Having a stutter can be be easily remedied in as little as sixty minutes but since professional therapists are paid an hourly rate, this isn’t cost effective for them.

This isn’t to say that professional counsellors are actually avoiding trying to cure their patients in a sneaky attempt to boost their earnings but there is an element of truth to this idea. But, more important why do you need to spend hundreds (if not thousands) of dollars for private expensive therapy when you can quit stammering on your own.

Using Electronic Muscle Stimulation Systems to Prevent Muscle Atrophy

Electronic muscle stimulators, or EMS devices, are electronic devices that stimulate the muscles. Many bodybuilders use them to speed up muscle repair after a strenuous workout. When they have worked out hard, they get microscopic tears in their muscles and it is the healing of those tears that allows their muscle mass to grow. This would explain why EMS systems are commonly used in preventing muscle atrophy in those who are physically disabled.

For a person who has a disease or has been in an accident that denies them from using certain muscles, those muscles will begin to deteriorate over time. You may notice someone with atrophy in their legs have legs that are smaller than they should be. This is because the muscle is deteriorating away. Along with that muscle mass goes the strength. Although they may not be able to use the atrophied muscles anyway, it is healthy to prolong or eliminate prevent the atrophy from occurring.

Other reasons to prevent atrophy

Another reason in which EMS systems are used to prevent muscle atrophy is the fact that there have been medical breakthroughs that have enabled individuals who have not been able to use their muscles for years to suddenly use them. People who could not so much as stand are standing, so it was important to keep the muscles stimulated. Even if there is no hope of a person being able to utilize those muscles, they still need to be stimulated since medical breakthroughs are happening every single day. One just never knows when they're going to be aware of a new development, so their muscles have to be primed and ready to go.

How an EMS system works

EMS systems involve having more than one electrode placed on the skin. From there, small electronic pulses are emitted, usually by the push of a button. These pulses cause the muscles to contract. The contracting is similar to what is received when exercising. This is the very contraction that is needed to keep the muscles stimulated. It is true that an EMS system can not be connected all of the time, but it is great to have that available at a certain point or at points during the day to make sure the muscles get that bit of "exercise" that they need .

As for the effectiveness, EMS systems are quite effective, which is why so many individuals own them for various different reasons. As stated before, bodybuilders own them to help them in their bodybuilding routines. There are even some who use them to relieve muscle pain. The best way to relieve pain is by stimulating the muscle so that it can heal. If you've ever heard the saying, "Work it out," then you understand how an EMS system can do this. These are all reasons why doctors prescribe them to be used for those with such conditions as Muscular Dystrophy, for paraplegics, and for those who have encountered severe injuries that have resolved in severe muscle damage.

Luckily, EMS systems are not incredibly high investment. Many individuals are able to afford them and every individual can invest in the device that fits their particular needs. Certain ones give off a certain voltage, are different colors, different sizes, come with more or less electrodes, etc. Some may come with one type of electrode while others come with electrodes specifically designed for different areas of the body. But again, they are not very expensive, making EMS systems an easily accessible treatment method for anyone. Anyone with a muscle disorder or injury should invest in an EMS device to improve the quality of their life and to keep up a healthy appearance.

Glaucoma Identity Kit – What is It?

Glaucoma is a dreaded eye problem where the eyes can not drain properly and the patient becomes blind because of too much fluid pressure. There are many different types of glaucoma, but one of the most common is called congenital glaucoma. That means this kind of glaucoma is passed on through your genes. Would not it be great if some sort of glaucoma identity kit was devised to see if you or your children carried this particular gene before you started to go blind?

What Is Congenital Glaucoma?

Congenital glaucoma is a problem for young children, who often are educated to the doctor or ophthalmologist when it's too late. Although some children can be diagnosed as newborns, as many as 15% of babies with congenital glaucoma go undiagnosed, according to some studies done in America. When the symptoms develop, they often go blind in both eyes 75% of the time. For some unknown reason, boys are more affected than girls.

Discovery In 1997

The first step in developing such a glaucoma identity kit is discovering the specific gene that causes congenital glaucoma. Considering how many genes and gene combinations a person carries, it's easier to find a needle in a haystack. But in March of 1997, University of Connecticut Health Center's research scientist, Mansoor Sarfarazi, Ph. D, found the needle.

The studies were mostly funded by a company called InSite Vision, which was hoping to use the discovery of the gene to develop profitable glaucoma diagnostic tools. Unfortunately, these things take time. InSite, in cooperation with an Italian company, did plan to test a product called OcuGene in Italy in 2002. Its technical name was ISV-900. It Disappeared into Obscurity after 2003. In 2007, InSite Viiosn announced in court papers that "Our marketing and sales efforts related to OcuGene glaucoma genetic test have been significantly curtailed."

No glaucoma identity kit of any kind is currently listed in the company's products, not even for clinical development. It is unknown how long InSite will own the exclusive rights to the University of Connecticut Health Center's research to allow other companies the chance of developing a diagnostic kit.

Seeing Into The Future

The mention of ISV-900 probably makes anyone at InSite Vision shudder. There was a terrible court battle with those same Italian companies with a lot of the details being hushed. As of 2008, no medical supply company or pharmaceutical giant has been able to develop such a diagnostic tool so far. Despite the fact that there are a lot of children who get glaucoma, apparently not enough of them go blind or they are not from families rich enough to mount any kind of legal protest.

Perhaps in the future, pharmaceutical companies will concentrate on what's best for people's health rather than what's best for their shareholders.

Myopia Causes… Is it Really the Eye?

I started my last article titled “High Myopia – What Causes Myopia?” with saying that if you are easily offended by the truth, you better stop reading, and it applies for this article even more…

If you can’t face the truth about your myopia causes and what’s really needed to improve your vision, stop right here. If you can handle it, buckle up, you are in for a ride!

The truth is that the cause for myopia is not in your eyes at all. Your eye problem is merely a symptom of the cause. The real cause is psychological. And there are few psychological reasons, which we will cover over a serious of articles.

Today we start with my favorite, with the reason why so many younger people, mid to late teens, early twenties, get myopia. It is the fear of the future.

“What a load of B.S.”, I hear many say, “my optometrist says it has to do with the shape of my lens”, others might be thinking, but before you dismiss anything here, keep an open mind and let’s have a look on how it all belongs together.

Myopia Causes From A Different Perspective

You see, our mind is so strong, that it can literally cause us to black out what we don’t want to see. In our mid to late teens or early twenties we are faced with the question what we want or should do with the rest of our life. But the concept of days in relationship to a life-time can’t be understood as yet, that only comes around by the time we are 40 – 50 years old (see “The Continuum Concept” by Jean Liedloff, p 43). How should we understand what we want to do every day of our life?

So when we are faced with the question what to do for the rest of our life, we get scared, and I mean real scared. But what does that have to do with myopia causes? Great question, hang in there.

How Does THAT Cause Myopia?

Humans in a state of fear get stressed. So stressed that our muscles become tense and tighten up. Now if that happens in our eye muscles, the muscles flatten out the eyeball, extending it like the zoom on a photo lens, and thereby altering the shape of the lens. The shape of the lens becomes stepper because the eyeball is filled with liquid and when it is squashed together, the extension causes a steeper shape of the lens.

Now putting glasses in front of the stressed eyes doesn’t solve the problem because we are still under stress, in a state of fear, and our eye muscles are still tight as. The glasses only help us to see into the distance, the very distance we didn’t want to see in the first place. So, as strong as our mind is, it just tightens the muscles a bit more, squeezes the eyeball further, and viola there is the next level of myopia, and you need new glasses.

This keeps going until you resolve the underlying reasons. Resolving the underlying reasons is much easier than wearing glasses, totally natural, cheap as chips in comparison to a life-time of paying for glasses, and you and your mind can get rid of myopia easily. Glasses on the other hand won’t cut it, they will just increase the tension over time, worsening your eyesight every so often.

The Solution To Myopia Causes

The way to deal with your psychological causes for myopia is to do natural vision correction. That’s it!

Now the fear of the future is only one possible underlying cause for myopia, there are many more myopia causes, but the concept is always the same. Your mind is putting tension on the eye muscles, which extend the eyeball, and therefore alter the shape of the lens.

You can do something about your myopia causes, and you should, because clear vision without glasses is your birth right. You should be enjoying it every day of your life. There is no reason in the world why you shouldn’t.

Psoriasis Can Impact the Erect Penis

Psoriasis is one of the more well-known skin disorders, and it can cause discomfort for many who suffer from it. It also can be something of a penis health concern as, surprisingly, many men with psoriasis also suffer from erect penis issues.

What is psoriasis?

The National Psoriasis Foundation defines psoriasis as “an immune-mediated disease that causes raised, red, scaly patches to appear on the skin.” It most often presents on the knees, elbows or scalp, but it can occur anywhere on the body (including the penis). The rash is often itchy and in some cases it can also sting and crate a burning sensation.

The exact cause of psoriasis is not known, although it appears to have a genetic connection that somehow affects the immune system. People with psoriasis grow skin cells at a much faster rate than is typical, which is what brings about the scaly skin rashes.

Study

A recent article published in JAMA Dermatology looked at 28 previously published studies. Entitled “Association Between Psoriasis and Sexual and Erectile Dysfunction in Epidemiologic Studies,” the article sought to examine evidence for any links between psoriasis and sexual health.

The 28 studies reviewed involved more than 52,000 people with psoriasis. (It also compared them to more than 1,800,000 people without psoriasis, so that they had a large control group.)

After completing the study, the authors determined that men with psoriasis may be up to four times as likely to have erect penis issues than men who do not suffer from psoriasis.

Not the disease itself

The study did not seem to indicate that the disease itself caused the erectile dysfunction; it was more that having the disease created situations in which an erect penis issue was more likely to occur. For example, the study found that many men with psoriasis exhibited signs of increased anxiety and depression, and that it was these factors which were ultimately more responsible for the erectile dysfunction.

In some cases, the presence of psoriasis on the penis and/or balls could also be likely to increase erectile issues. Again, this seems to be less a result of the disease itself and more a result of the feelings that it arouses in the victim.

Because the disease has an impact beyond the visible presence on the skin, the study authors suggest that doctors need to take this into consideration when treating psoriasis. For example, in addition to prescribing medications designed to treat the skin eruption, a doctor may want to try to ascertain if anxiety or depression is being fueled by the disease. If so, they may suggest a visit to a mental health professional or, if they are qualified, suggest strategies for dealing with these emotional issues.

The age of the individual was also seen as a factor; often men experience more erect penis challenges as they approach their older years.

Men with psoriasis who also experience erectile issues should discuss this with their doctors and seek assistance in resolving this issue.

Even with no erect penis issues, psoriasis on the penis can cause discomfort to a man. Maintaining expert penis health may help, so men should regularly apply a top notch penis health creme (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). Achieving proper skin moisturization is crucial, so the chosen crème should include both a high end emollient (such as shea butter) and a natural hydrator (such as vitamin E). Additional vitamins, such as C and D, can also help to benefit delicate penis skin. Finally, if the crème also contains alpha lipoic acid, so much the better. This potent antioxidant fights excess free radicals and thereby reins in potential oxidative stress.

Ways to Make Your Wounds Heal Faster

You might already know how to take care of your wounds for them to heal. But, there are methods that you can use in order to hasten the healing process. Once your wounds are healed, it may be easier for you to resume your activities of daily living. You will not have to worry about tending to your wounds.

Once you have been cut or injured, you have to decide whether or not you are going to seek medical treatment. Minor wounds can be taken care of with the first aid kit that you have at home. These wounds are not life threatening. There might be no need for you to visit a doctor or a clinic at any given time. Major wounds, on the other hand, may put your life at risk. These wounds can make you lose a lot of blood. If you suffer a burn injury, you may lose lots of fluids from your body at a very fast rate. These wounds will require you to go and see a doctor as soon as possible.

After emergency treatment measures have been given and you are now out of immediate danger, the next focus will be on how to heal your injuries. Doctors and medical professionals will first try to avoid more complications like a wound infection. You may be prescribed with the necessary antibiotics to avoid such things from happening.

On your own end, you need to take care of your wounds. Dressings keep your wounds from getting in contact with contaminants. But, remember to regularly change your wound dressings. Once they are soaked, you need to change to new ones as soon as possible. And if you no longer notice a great amount of drain from your wounds, you still have to regularly change your wound dressings. Some amount of dust and other debris might be present. Fresh dressing materials will make sure that your wounds will be kept away from infection.

Wounds that have dried can be freed from the dressing materials. Once the wounds are closed and dry, there will be no danger in letting them out in the open. This can even hasten the healing process as oxygen in the air can get to your wounds at a much better rate. Sometimes, using more aggressive methods to introduce oxygen into the body is something that you can do. There are oxygen therapies that you can undergo.

Disinfect your wounds using the right products. Soap and water can be effective for some wounds. However, for those who suffered huge and open wounds, this method might not be ideal. Instead, a wound disinfectant such as an iodine solution or a topical antibacterial agent is applied to the affected part.

As much as possible, do not touch your wounds. At a late healing phase, most wounds would itch a lot. Resist the urge to touch the affected part. Your hands can carry potentially dangerous organisms. Sometimes, scabs may be accidentally removed and will only cause you to suffer permanent scars once the wounds are completely healed.

Swine Flu? Who's Afraid of Swine Flu? How to Never Worry About the Flu Again

With the latest concern over the swine flu outbreak I had to write an article on how to avoid it so people could stop worrying. There really is not much to worry about if you know what to do to protect yourself.

There are several reasons that I am not worried, and why you do not really need to worry. For myself, I am very healthy, and I do not usually get sick. As a natural healer, I know what I need to stay healthy, and I practice what I preach.

You can help yourself too in this time, by eating better, exercising, and taking supplements. Eat better by eliminating processed foods like sugar and wheat.

Applied Kinesiology is a healing modality that I use, and it has a natural flu treatment that can easily deal with the flu. Practitioners can be hard to find though. But, there are things you can do for yourself.

Often, a lot can be done over the phone, but there are some things that need to be done hands on that you can learn to do with the help of a friend.

One of the main things is to take vitamin D, actually a hormone, that has many functions in the body. One of its functions is to activate the part of the immune system that eliminates pathogens like the flu virus.

D is made in the skin from exposure to sunlight. However, the further away you are from the equator, the less can be produced. In the winter, and for some time around winter, it is impossible for most people to get enough D from sunlight.

Dosages run between 1000 and 25,000 iu or more a day. The higher dosage is safe for most people for two to four weeks, sometimes even longer.

Another thing you can do about the flu is to take a supplement from Standard Process, my favorite manufacturers, called Congeplex. Congeplex is a complex of various minerals and vitamins from whole food sources that boosts the body's immune system so that it can throw off the influenza virus very quickly.

When you have a bottle of Congeplex in your cabinet, you do not have to worry about swine flu at all. If you do get sick, all it takes is six capsules an hour, and the flu symptoms will start to go away in three to five hours in most cases. You can take that dose for up to eight hours if needed.

Once the symptoms have mostly stopped, you can drop the dosage to six three times a day. It is best to take it with food, but it is okay to take it without food when taking it hourly.

Another supplement you can use is called Immuniplex, also from Standard Process. It is very similar to Congeplex, but a little better at getting your immune system to full strength. The preventive dose for Immuniplex is four two times a day. Three times a day if you are particularly sensitive to catching colds or the flu.

One of the most important factor in avoiding the flu is keeping the lymph moving. It is also one of the most important things you can do if you get the flu.

The body has two circulatory systems, the blood and lymph. While blood rings nutrients to the body, the lymph system takes the toxic byproducts away.

When lymph moves through the lymph nodes, any viruses or bacteria it picks up are killed off by the lymph glands. When lymph movement stops, the flu virus is not being eliminated, so it can build up and make you sick

The only way lymph moves is by movement of the long muscles in the arms and legs when you walk. I like to tell my clients to walk regularly for exercise. If they absolutely can not get out to exercise, I tell them to at least take what I call a "sludge walk" for 10 minutes or more a day just to keep the lymph moving and eliminating waste.

Fungus Treatment – Get Rid of Yellow Toenails

If you have been suffering from yellow toenails, you have probably spent some time online searching for the best fungus treatment.

The first thing you need to realize is that some people think they have a nail fungus infection simply because their nails are yellow, brittle, or thick when it could be another skin problem like psoriasis or even some type of nail trauma.

It's important to make sure that you figure out via your doctor if you do in fact have a nail fungus infection and that will make your treatment more successful.

If you are one of those people that prefer not to use traditional drugs, or can not afford the thousands of dollars some oral medicines cost, there are some viable natural options that may help you.

Many of the natural formulas to fight toenail fungus involve a mixture of various oils like tea tree oil, oregano, clove oil, and others that may be effective in fighting toenail fungus. Undecylenic acid, which is produced from castor oil cracked under pressure is another natural ingredient that may give you some relief.

Outside of various liquid topical solutions, there are some other home type remedies that are believed to be effective but there is little evidence to support yes or no on things like apple cider soaks and Listerine soaks. In the case of apple cider vinegar, the active ingredient of acetin acid is believed to have some impact on fungus growth.

Another very popular home remedy is Vicks vaporub. Vicks is used primarily for congestion and colds but does contain thymol and camphor, both of which are said to have antifungal or antibacterial properties.

Gamma Knife Surgery – Have Brain Surgery, Be Home in Time For Dinner

Gamma Knife Surgery is not really surgery as you know it. There is no knife, no scalpel. Why did they name it Gamma Knife Surgery? Beats me. But I can tell you it's an effective tool. Take it from someone who has had their head opened up more than once. Gamma Knife patients usually waltz out of the hospital the same day and still have their hair. I walked, or rather walked gingerly to my car the week after each of my craniotomies. And my head was shaved which did not qualify me as a fashion diva. So it's worth the effort to see if your brain tumor or brain disorder qualifies for gamma knife surgery.

It is important to note that Gamma Knife (GK) and Cyber Knife are not the same thing. The GK was specifically created, designed and built to treat brain tumors and disorders. The cyber knife was not. There are other distinctions, however, this will focus on the benefits of gamma knife and what to look for in terms of good GK treatment.

Gamma Knife is a life-saving treatment for patients previously considered untreatable

Many brain tumors and disorders that did not qualify as a Gamma Knife procedure in 1999 or 2000 when I had my surgery. But many of those do now. Many who have been diagnosed with inoperable brain tumors or inoperable neurological disorders can be treated with the GK. Patients who could not undergo the risk of a craniotomy now have this as an option.

How does it work?

Basically GK is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure that focuses extremely precise cobalt radiation beams on the target area. Patients wear a Collimator, a sort of helmet that has little holes in it. Beams of radiation are focused through these holes in the collimator.

Individual beads are too weak to damage healthy tissue, but very powerful when they simultaneously merge at a single focal point. In particular, GK is a very effective tool in the treatment of Trigeminal Neuralgia, a nerve disorder that causes intestinal facial pain.

GK treatment is designed to stop the growth of tumors or lesions, which means that the effect will happen over a period of weeks or months. It is usually more immediate in the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia. Your doctor will stay in contact with you to assess your progress, which may include follow-up MRI, CT or angiography images to assess the effectiveness.

What can GK be used to treat?

Determining whether or not you are a candidate for GK treatment is up to your doctor or team of doctors. But Gamma Knife treatment has been successfully used for the following:

o Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN)

o Benign Brain Tumors – meningiomas, pituitary tumors, acoustic neuromas

o Intracranial tumors

o Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)

o Metastatic brain disease

o Research is being done for Parkinson's, epilepsy, chronic pain & glaucoma

The Advantages of Gamma Knife Surgery

Since there is no incision, the risks of infection, hemorrhage and adverse reactions to anesthesia are minimal. Most patients receive only local anesthesia and a mild sedative. No anesthesia means patients are up and about quicker. Here are other benefits:

o Surrounding tissue is spared from unnecessary radiation.

o Gamma Knife surgery is often more cost-effective because recovery time is reduced. Most patients leave the hospital on the same day as the treatment. (Medicare and most insurance companies cover this treatment.)

o Patients experience little, if any, discomfort during and after this minimally invasive procedure.

What to look for in a Gamma Knife Treatment Center

Not every city has a Gamma Knife Center. So it may mean traveling out of your city or state. So your first step should be to find out what insurance will pay for and if you need to make an appeal for a particular center.

Your doctor's office will often know what centers have good outcomes and experience and can assist in the insurance approval process. If you are having difficulty with insurance approval, do not hesitate to ask for assistance from the originating physician or from the center where you wish to have your treatment.

Here are some other things you might want to look for in a treatment center:

o Physician experience. You want to know that the surgeon performing gamma knife is not out on his maiden voyage.

o A team of specialists and a comprehensive treatment plan. A good center will develop a treatment plan for a patient depending on many factors and may include consults from neurosurgeons, oncologists, interventional radiologists to name a few.

o Look for a center that has more recent technology-a 4th generation or greater. The GK technology has been around a while so it is hard in a prototype state.

o A treatment center than is a Gamma Knife Host site. There is Peace of Mind when you're at a center that sets a standard for Gamma Knife Surgery. The manufacturer designates some centers as "host sites", meaning they are models by which they'd like other centers to follow.

o There is complementary technology available on site. Is there a PET scanner, a CT scanner, Digital angiography, 3DRA, a trilogy? A full suite of neurosurgery and oncology technology means it's a place dedicated to neurological and oncology treatment. It means there are more resources in terms of technology and physician experience.

o Comprehensive treatment plans. You are looking for a center that offers the most possible treatment options in one place. Going from one city to the next is inconvenient and stressful. Not only that, it's unnecessary today. – For example, if you seek treatment for trigeminal neuralgia, you would want to know if they offer gamma knife, medication options, glycerol injections and microvascular decompression.

Twenty years ago, a patient would have had to have divine intervention to leave the hospital the very same day he or she had brain surgery. The gamma knife makes this possible for over 30,000 patients every year. So if you are a candidate for gamma knife, you may not be in the kind of shape it takes to put together a thanksgiving feast, but you can certainly enjoy dinner at home. Even desert if you want.

Snoring in Pregnancy

If you have suddenly started snoring after conceiving, consider it a normal phase. Snoring is a normal phenomenon during pregnancy and most women snore during the 9 months phase. Usually the sudden episodes of snoring start during the last trimester during the end of the 6 weeks of pregnancy. The episodes of snoring can be of different levels ranging from mild noises to extreme high pitched snoring that needs immediate medical attention. It may be more of a nuisance to the sleep partner as the noise may be a constant disruption to the nightly rest.

Usually snoring during pregnancy may be just an irritability factor but in some cases, it may be a serious issue to worry about. It may be a good idea to discuss with your health care professional or physician to reduce the snoring levels or at least prevent the onset of other issues.

In many cases, most women were non snorers but after conceiving the sudden snoring is not welcomed. However, there may be a host of reasons contributing to the onset at this delicate time. Sinus and nasal congestions are the biggest contributors which add to the extra weight gain leading to snoring during this phase. However it is a minor or temporary discomfort and usually you stop snoring once the baby is delivered. It is in rare cases that snoring continues post delivery which may only be due to excess weight especially around the neck and throat region.

Snoring during pregnancy leads to sleep deprivation, fatigue and constant drowsiness which can be reduced by taking safe non snoring remedies. But before looking up for an effective anti snoring remedies, it is good to know what actually causes you to snore when pregnant. The inflammation in the nasal passages and extra layers of fat due to increasing weight adds to the condition. Nasal strips are good for those who snore through the nose, as the adhesive nasal strips allow for wider breathing passages helping you inhale and exhale freely limiting the snoring.

There are a few strips that can be put inside the nose but most people find such strips obtrusive. However, for mouth snorers, chin straps and throat sprays work well. The throat and nasal lubricating sprays work well on most snoring individuals as they tighten the throat muscles widen respiratory tracks using safe, non addictive natural elements such as eucalyptus, Evening Primrose, Lavender, Mint, Rosemary and peppermint. The crux is that with numerous anti snoring remedies available in the market today, there is no need to bear the noise any longer every night.

The side effect of snoring is not just the nightly disturbing noises, but habitual snoring leads to sleep deprivation and low oxygen levels to the brain. In most cases, snoring passes off and does not affect your health or your child’s but sometimes it needs medical attention to avoid further health complications.

Sleep apnea is a remote possibility for those women who are habitual snorers before pregnancy. For such individuals, getting a regular medical check up and talking to the doctor about snoring becomes important. Edema, inflammation and swelling can be related to snoring and low oxygen levels in the body. Some of the anti snoring products are just right at this stage.

Epileptic Seizure Solution

Being a very unpredictable disease, epilepsy frequently rules the lives of those attacked by it. The solitary way to maintain control over symptoms is by using assorted combinations of anti-convulsive drugs and developing a well-balanced style of living that keeps excesses of all sorts away.

Mysoline, is an anti-convulsive drug that stops seizures triggered by epilepsy. This form of long-term treatment can be taken for an indefinite period of time. However long you keep taking it, be absolutely sure a close contact with your doctor is maintained for a professional monitoring of your condition.

Treatment Specifics

This medication should be administered as suspension or capsules, and quantity depends on the intensity of the problem, body weight and age. If you choose Mysoline in liquid form, keep it in a dark location and vigorously shake the bottle prior to every usage to ascertain you get the accurate amount.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is within 1 hour of your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Warnings

The only health circumstance that is totally mismated is porphyria, an inherited metabolic disorder.

At the conclusion of treatment, never discontinue taking this medication abruptly, as this may contribute to stronger seizures than you've experienced previously. Withdrawal must be a gradual process.

Taking into consideration the fact that this drug is, for the most part, administrated for an eminently
long period of time, intermittent blood tests are imperative to maintain an accurate view of your health condition, and to inhibit any possible system decline in quality.

Beware of drug interactions

Prior to beginning any new drug therapy, make sure it does not interject with this medication.Or you risk to jeopardize the effectiveness of either. Medications that are susceptible to Mysoline incumbrance include: estrogen based oral contraceptives, certain antibiotics, blood-thinning drugs, anti-depressants and steroidal drugs

On that account, try to abstain from all alcoholic drinks while using this medication. In order to circumvent possible unwanted side effects, it is important to inform your health care provider on the use of this drug.

There are an abundance of other drugs that can be safely mixed with Mysoline without triggering any negative effects. Your doctor is the most qualified person to talk to when needing to interpret other asserted health problems that inevitably appear.

Use this medication exactly as prescribed. Do not change from one manufacturer's product to another without consulting your doctor.

Continue taking Mysoline even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.

Mysoline gives you the effectiveness of phenobarbital plus additional protection. A patient who seizures have not been controlled by phenobarbital may have better results from Mysoline.

study in children-which also included Depakote (valproate) -focused on the rate of side effects. Only 8% of the children who were given Mysoline had to stop taking it because of side effects. Phenobarbital, which can be an excellent medication, often is avoided in children because of the possibility of mental slowing. By using Mysoline alone, children can enjoy many of the same benefits while avoiding this problem because the amount of phenobarbital produced by breaking down the Mysoline is low.

It is important to remember that no single combination of antiepileptic medications is perfect for everyone. Sometimes, a series of combinations must be tried before finding what is best for the individual patient.

What You Need to Know About Heart Diseases and Stroke

Introduction.

Heart disease is a name given to a variety of conditions that affect the performance of the heart. There are certain disturbances in the action of the heart without any disease in the organ. Most common of these is palpitation. This may be due to emotional states, such as fear, anger, joy, grief, or anxiety; or to certain drugs or poisons such as may be found in tea, coffee, tobacco, or alcoholic drinks.

As heart failure approaches, the real symptoms of the heart disease appear. Shortness of breath on slight exertion is one of the first symptoms. Distress and fullness after eating are very common. Other early symptoms are weakness and lack of endurance, in the legs particularly; palpitation of the heart with fullness in the chest and a dry cough; dull pain and soreness in the region of the liver and also over the heart. Swelling of the ankles may be one of the first symptoms noticed. It is usually worse in the evening and disappears during sleep. Weakness increases until the patient finds himself utterly exhausted on the slightest exertion. He is restless and sleepless.

Every person with acute heart disease of any variety should be under the daily care of a physician and everyone with chronic heart disease should be seen frequently by a physician. A common misconception about the heart is that once it is affected, there is the permanent difficulty, with chronic invalidism and early death. Nothing is further from the truth. The rugged heart often makes an excellent recovery in the course of time. Rest, both physical and mental, is a valuable remedy. The patient must choose food that will not cause gas and indigestion, and guard against emotional outbursts, especially anger.

1. Types of Heart Diseases.

Important examples of heart disease include:

i. Angina, in which there is poor blood circulation to the heart.

ii. Heart Attack, in which there is the death of part of the heart muscle.

iii. Arrhythmia, in which the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat is abnormal.

iv. Atherosclerosis, in which the arteries harden. It is a build-up of cholesterol and other fat substances within the walls of the arteries. Atherosclerosis is a progressive disease and can develop in any artery in the body. It is a common disorder of the arteries.

v. Rheumatic, this was formerly one of the most serious forms of heart disease of childhood and adolescence. This disease involves damage to the entire heart and its membranes. It is a complication of rheumatic fever and usually occurs after attacks of rheumatic fever. The incidence of this condition has been greatly reduced by widespread use of antibiotics effective against the streptococcal bacterium that causes rheumatic fever.

vi. Myocarditis, it’s the inflammation or degeneration of the heart muscle. This can be due to a complication during or after various viral, bacterial or parasitic infectious diseases, such as polio, influenza, rubella, or rheumatic fever. This can be caused by several diseases such as syphilis, goitre, endocarditis, or hypertension. It may be associated with dilation (enlargement due to the weakness of the heart muscle) or with hypertrophy (overgrowth of the muscle tissue).

2. Know the signs of a heart attack.

During a heart attack, men often have these symptoms:

i. Pain or discomfort in the Centre of the chest.

ii. Pain or discomfort in other areas of the upper body, including the arms, back, neck, jaw, or stomach.

iii. Other symptoms, such as shortness of breath breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea, or light-headedness.

3. The basics of stroke.

Stroke is the third leading cause of death for men. The stroke occurs when part of the brain does not get the blood it needs. Then, brain cells die.

There are two types of stroke.

i. An ischemic (iss-kee-mik) stroke. This happens when blood is blocked from getting to the brain.

ii. A hemorrhagic (heh-muh-ra-jik) stroke. This happens when a blood vessel in the brain bursts and blood bleeds into the brain.

A person might also have a “mini-stroke.” This happens when, for a short time, less blood than normal gets to the brain. You may have some signs of a full stroke, or you may not notice any signs at all. But it only lasts a few minutes up to 24 hours. Then you’re back to normal. Many people don’t even know they’ve had it. However, a “mini-stroke” is a sign of a full stroke to come, so it’s important to know the signs of a stroke.

4. Know the signs of Stroke.

The signs of a stroke happen suddenly and are different from the signs of a heart attack. Look for these signs:

i. Weakness or numbness on one side of your body.

ii. Dizziness

iii. loss of balance

iv. Confusion

v. Trouble talking or understanding speech

vi. A headache

vii. Nausea

viii. Trouble walking or seeing.

Remember: Even if you have a “mini-stroke” you may have some of these signs.

5. 12 Steps to a healthy heart;

i. Do not smoke: It is no surprise that smoking hurts your heart. So if you smoke, try to quit.

ii. Get your cholesterol tested: If it is high (above 200), talk to your doctor or nurse about losing weight (if you are overweight) and getting more active. Ask if there is the medicine that may help.

iii. Know your blood pressure: Your heart moves blood through your body. If it is hard for your heart to do this, your heart works harder and your blood pressure will rise. Have it checked to make sure you’re on track! It is high (systolic above 139 and diastolic above 89), talk to your doctor or nurse about how to lower it.

iv. Get tested for diabetes: Diabetes can raise your chances of getting heart disease. If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar levels in check! This is the best way for you to take care of yourself and your heart.

v. Eat heart-healthy foods: Whole grain foods, vegetables, and fruits. Choose lean meats and low-fat cheese and dairy products. Limit foods that have lots of saturated fat, like butter, whole milk, baked goods, ice cream, fatty meats and cheese.

vi. Keep a healthy weight: Being overweight or obese raises your risk for heart disease.

vii. Eat less salt: Choose foods salt. Use spices, herbs, lemon, and lime instead of salt. This is really important if you have high blood pressure.

viii. Do not drink too much of alcohol: Too much alcohol raises blood pressure and can raise your risk of stroke and other problems.

ix. Get moving: Get at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days, if not all days of the week.

x. Take your medicine: If your doctor has prescribed medicine to lower your blood pressure or cholesterol, take it exactly as you have been told to take it.

xi. Take steps to treat your sleep problems: If you snore loudly, have been told you stop breathing at times when you sleep and are very sleepy during the day, you may have sleep apnea. If you don’t treat it, it raises your chances of having a heart attack or stroke. Talk with your doctor or nurse about treating this problem.

xii. Find healthy ways to cope with stress: Sometimes, people cope with stress by eating, drinking too much alcohol, or smoking-these are all ways that could hurt your heart. Lower your stress: talk to friends, be physically active, or meditate.

Ophiasis – What is Ophiasis?

If there are patches on the head or the body which are completely devoid of hair, it could be Ophiasis, a type of Alopecia Areata. Ophiasis is Greek for "snake" as it is recognized by a serpent like design on the temporal or occipital area of the scalp.

The bald patch will be very smooth and may increase in size. It leaves no scar and is inflammatory. It could affect anyone, young and old, man or woman. It is not a dangerous disease but it affects the psychology of the patient as it may lead to total loss of hair and may make the patient a recluse in society.

There are three steps in the growth of follicles of hair. Anagen implications activity in the hair follicle. Hair grows in this stage. Catagen implies growth retardation. Telogen is the time for the follicle to rest. Hair falls at this stage. The cycle is complete and anagen starts again.

In the anagen stage follicles may get inflamed. This is Ophiasis. They enter the telogen phase instead of catagen. If this keeps happening weak strands of hair are produced from the follicles.

Some researchers believe that the follicles quickly proceed from the first stage to the last one. Some believe that the follicles get captured in the last stage. In the early stages of the disease the cycle gets disrupted. This leads to a large number of hair follicles in each stage.

Clumps of hair of the last stage fall from all parts of the body. If the roots are visible they are telogen follicles. At the borders of the bald patch are broken hair which look like exclamation marks.

This is how Ophiasis occurs.

Does Stuttering Have Something to Do With Intelligence?

Does stuttering have something to do with intelligence? This is one of the most ellogical questions occupying the minds of most of the non-stutterers. And the answer to such a question is a definite no. Stuttering is only a speech hindering disorder which causes the sufferers to stammer when they speak. Being a speech disorder, stuttering has no connection whatsever to intelligence and intellect. Although some may argue that the neural patterns of stutterers differ from those of non-stutterers, the neurons are responsible for hearing and speech are in no way related to the neurons liable for intelligence.

The notion of comparing stuttering to intelligence is in itself erroneous because the intelligence of a person is measured through the IQ or Intelligence Quotient. The IQ of a person depends large on the ability of a person to help new things and learn stuff quickly. But the neurons responsible for determining one's IQ is present in the frontal cortex whereas the ones responsible for hearing and speech are present at the posterior and this clearly shows that one can in no way affect the other.

Although scientifically there is no connection between intelligence and stuttering, the intelligence of a stuttering individual can deteriorate because of the problem. This is largely based on how the stuttering kids were treated in their surroundings. Stutterers are generally made fun of and are never given a chance to show their prowess. Although the society considers them to be disabled in a way, it denies them the compassion which is usually shown towards disabled people. Where concessions are made for other disabled, the stutterers are either given the concessions nor are they treated with concern and even worse are the taunts pointed at them.

Even though some stutterers have been able to successfully overtake the taunts and displayed their intelligence, they have not been able to showcase their abilities because of the society's indifference to them. On top of that, the society has created a view around them depicting them as a dull lot, giving the world an impression that they are not as intelligent as other people. But one proving point to show that there can be no link between stuttering and intelligence is the number of famous successful people including Sir Winston Churchill, King George VI, etc., who have provoked their astuteness in spite of their stutter.
