Feelings Of Anxiety Surely Fade Away When You’re Spiritually Minded

Ridding feelings of anxiety and heal feeling detached is a benefit of being spiritually minded, and needs no special cure, place, or circumstance. It is not concerned with anything out of your ordinary daily routine.

Being spiritually minded and dropping feelings of anxiety is just a simple mental attitude toward lasting value, changing circumstances, and avoidable eventualities, as well as accepting the inevitable.

A mighty surge of being truly spiritually minded is catching on and will sweep over the entire planet and is correcting our feelings of anxiety.

Your true colors have no meaning in the ego-based world where the feeling detached scenario is common, and are not separate from God. Why do you think He gave us His Holy Spirit?

We have the Holy Spirit-our inner Guide, to keep what has no meaning out, and only what is real a part of your masterpiece, and this rids feelings of anxiety. When you feel off-track or feeling detached, just ask that the Holy Spirit readjust your way of seeing the world.

This only needs to take a few minutes to increase positive outlook.

You can never ask too often or for too much. But you can ask for too little. With that said, would you sacrifice your true identity with everything, to paint your portrait with “paint by numbers,” in order to get a sure little treasure and continue with feelings of anxiety?

You won’t be able to do this without a sense of loss, feeling detached, isolation, and loneliness. This would always be your only treasure, because you are afraid of what you really want. Think about it.

Is fear and incompleteness and feelings of anxiety or feeling detached the treasure you really desire?

Can forever wondering “What could have been?” be what you want? Or are you lost and don’t know what you want? I find that yoga puts me back on track to maximizing my potential when I’m feeling detached.

There is no more ready means by which to outline your inner self and let go of feelings of anxiety than through honesty. Honesty with yourself and your brother is the beginning step.

This giving of your honesty must, then, be real, if it is being given away; therefore you cannot help but have honesty from inside yourself and feelings of anxiety fading away. This will assure there is no hypocrite abiding in you.

Hypocrisy is a million-headed cobra, with a million-dollar budget supporting its million-dollar structures.

Today there are so-called saints in the world who tell people to be honest; yet they themselves are deeply involved in dishonesty.

Infinite honesty is one of the aspects of your true essence and being spiritually minded. All you have to do is like many successful others do, which is to use it. Then the likability laws take over. What are you afraid of?

Honesty is the leading light on the inner pathway, and one of the most effective means for healing and being spiritually minded which in turn feelings of anxiety begin fading into the nothingness it’s always been.

Let us take a look at the error we all face so it can be corrected and not protected. When we believe in sin, we believe that attack in any form takes place outside the mind where the belief arose.

This proves that we view ideas as leaving their source.

We are thus thinking of the world and ourselves in a physical and material way. Nothing takes place outside the mind; this is why sin is unreal. Remember, only illusion like feelings of anxiety takes place outside the mind-and illusion is not real.

Try to look at it this way: If you give away a material possession, such as a bicycle, the bike is no longer in your possession, no longer a part of you.

But if you give away an idea, others can use it and it is still with you. It will always be “your” idea.

Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder – How Do You Know If You’re Having One?

By the time you finish reading this you will be able to identify some of the typical symptoms that a person with anxiety disorder has. The symptoms of anxiety disorder can be emotional and/or physical. Emotional symptoms consist of certain negative moods or behaviors, while physical symptoms alter the way your body functions.

If you experience any of these symptoms, you should discuss what you’re feeling with your doctor. This article will give you a good idea what you should be watching for, and what you can tell your physician.

Emotional Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder

Some anxiety disorder symptoms are purely emotional. Rather than changing the way your body feels, these symptoms are more like persistent moods or predictable reactions. They don’t necessarily center on fear or anxiety.

Common emotional anxiety disorder symptoms include irritability and constantly feeling “on edge”. People suffering anxiety disorder symptoms often seem only one stressful event away from some sort of breakdown.

Physical Symptoms of Anxiety Disorder

Sometimes anxiety disorder symptoms can affect you physically. It goes beyond mood or feelings. Functioning of bodily systems is actually changed.

You may find yourself shaking or trembling. An extremely fast heartbeat is a common symptom. Your racing heart is often accompanied by shortness of breath, a feeling that you can’t get enough oxygen.

How To Deal with Anxiety Disorder

If you believe that you are suffering from anxiety disorder, you should see your family doctor. First of all, there may be a physical reason why you were experiencing these symptoms. A visit to your normal doctor is the best place to start.

Once they have ruled out physical causes, your physician may choose to start you on anti-anxiety or antidepressant medications. If these don’t make things better, you may be referred to a specialist.

You could also try therapy or counselling to cope with your anxiety disorder. You may be more comfortable with alternative treatment methods or natural remedies.

In Conclusion

Whatever treatment you choose, it’s important to try something. Even if your symptoms of anxiety disorder are purely emotional, they still have a very real negative effect on your life. Physical symptoms can be even worse.

Your doctor is able to help you deal with these symptoms and it’s important to start right away. Don’t allow embarrassment to keep you from talking about it and don’t just assume it will go away.

Endometriosis Cause – A Medical Mystery

Endometriosis' cause remains something of a medical mystery. There are a number of theories as to what causes this disease but a definitive diagnosis by medical researchers has yet to be found. It is estimated that there are over 70 million women worldwide who suffer from the symptoms of endometriosis making it a modern epidemic.

One issue that seems to be hindering the search for an endometriosis cause is the inability of researchers to track it on a global scale. Understanding the relationships between the environmental, social and hereditary backgrounds of the women with endometriosis would seem to go a long way in determining a cause.

Right now there is still only specific theories when it comes to determining endometriosis' cause. The more capable and medically sound ideas include:

• Retrograde Menstruation – Also known as the "Backflow" theory it was first formulated by Dr. John Sampson in 1921. This is kind of like a menstrual regurgitation in which some of the menstrual fluid is forced back into the fallopian tubes and into the abdominal cavity. While this does make a certain amount of sense, how else could endometrial cells get into the abdomen, there are a number of studies that seem to disprove this theory. Many women who experience this "Backflow" do not develop endometriosis. Dr. Sampson theory also fails to explain how many women exhibit endometrial cells in other parts of their body such as the lungs, skin, lymph nodes, and breasts. It also does not explain the rare cases when endometriosis is found in men.

• Genetic heredity – In many cases endometriosis looks to run in families. This cause was first theorized back in 1943 and researchers continue to pursue this line of thought. It is known that women whose mother or sister has endometriosis are 6 time more likely to get the disease.

• The theory of transplantation – This theory of endometriosis' cause is based on delivery through the lymphatic and circulatory system. This would explain endometrial cells that find their way to other parts of the body.

• Latrogenic transplantation – This idea has been significantly disproven but it espoused the idea that endometriosis is spread through the body during surgery. This course does nothing to explain endometriosis' cause in women who have never had a surgery.

• Coelomic metaplasia – This is the mutated cell theory. It is thought that certain types of cells can transform into a different type of cell when properly stimulated. In this case women undergoing estrogen replacement therapy or who have been exposed to environmental factors that increase estrogen levels (see Xenoestrogens below). This theory may help explain why in rare cases men have been diagnosed with endometriosis.

• Xenoestrogens – An interesting thing about endometriosis is the fact that up until 100 or so years ago it was a rather uncommon medical disorder. Many people think its epidemic like increase is due to factors thought about by the industrial age we live in. Exposure too many of the industrial products such as synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and more importantly plastics has brought about a condition known as estrogen dominance. Estrogen is the primary "food" source for endometrial tissue and most treatment regimens work to lower estrogen levels in women with endometriosis.

• Auto-immune dysfunctions – Women with healthy immune system seldom show signs of endometriosis. This is due to a healthy immune system that will seek out and destroy any endometrial tissue found outside of a woman's uterus. It is thought that auto-immune diseases are not only genetically based but can also be triggered by environmental factors. When you consider that endometriosis' cause is linked to heredity and Xenoestrogens it is easy to see why this theory has a solid foundation as being a likely cause.

• Liver disorders – The liver is responsible for regulating and removing estrogen from a woman's body. If this ability is impaired estrogen dominance begins to rear its ugly head. This can not only fuel endometriosis but can also lead to chronic fatigue and allergy symptoms that are common in endometriosis.

In addition to the many theories around endometriosis' cause there are also a number of risk factors that can make women more susceptible to endometriosis. These include:

• Caffeine – Women who drink large amounts of caffeine can show an increase in estrogen of nearly 70%.

• Fiber – Women who do not eat enough fiber also show estrogen increases.

• High fat diet – Toxins (Xenoestrogens) accumulate in animal fat leading to estrogen dominance in women who ingest them.

• Alcohol – Studies have shown that women who drink have a greater incidence of endometriosis.

• Stress – Stress is just bad for anyone and can cause many imbalances in the body.

Right now there is no medically accepted cure for endometriosis. Until endometriosis' cause is found this will probably remain true. Mitigating its growth and managing the symptoms is the accepted practice of dealing with this disease at this time. This can be done through a combination of prescription medications, surgery, diet and exercise.

One thing is for certain, endometriosis' cause does seem to be linked through environmental factors that have plagued our planet for quite some time.

Foot Problems in Runners

Millions of runners take to the streets, tracks and trails everyday. People run for health, for fitness, for stress relief and for fun. There are casual joggers, the trail runners, sprinters, marathon runners and elite competitors. Despite these differences, all runners are susceptible to foot problems. Common foot and ankle conditions in runners include blisters, foot fungus, ankle sprains, stress fractures, tendonitis and plantar fasciitis. Fortunately, most of these conditions can be prevented and many are easily treated. When foot and ankle conditions are ignored they can become difficult to treat and sometimes resistant to therapy.

Heel pain

One million runners will develop heel pain every year. The most common cause of heel pain is plantar fasciitis, which is the result of excess stress through a long ligament type structure (the plantar fascia) in the bottom of the foot. The excess stress causes tearing and results in inflammation and pain. The classic symptoms are pain in the heel at the first step in the morning, or upon rising after long periods of rest. Runners may only experience the pain at the beginning of a run and many state that the pain will work itself out after about 1 mile, but then return by the end of a long run or at the end of the day.

Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles tendonitis and related calf problems are the most common injuries in runners. Pain develops at the back of the heel or in the calf and can be sharp with activity and feel deep and dull with rest. The pain may be apparent at the first step in the morning or rising after long periods of rest. Runners may experience sharp pain in the heel area at the beginning of a run, which then becomes a dull annoyance during the run. In severe cases, it may be so painful that it will bring running to a halt. Calf injuries and Achilles tendonitis are both aggravated by hills and stairs.

Runners develop plantar fasciitis and tendonitis for a variety of reasons. One of the most common reasons for the development of plantar fasciitis is wearing poor quality or worn out shoes. It is common to grab old “mud” shoes to run in bad weather, or to start Spring training in shoes that were used the entire previous season. The older shoes may have a worn out midsole and may have lost all aspects of support and stability. Improper fit of a new running shoe can also cause fasciitis. Overtraining is another cause of plantar fasciitis. Adding too many miles too quickly, or adding too many hills too quickly can overstress the foot. Abnormal mechanics in the foot is another contributing factor to the development of plantar fasciitis in runners. If the foot overpronates (rolls in) this places a tremendous amount of stress on the tendons in the arch and on the plantar fascia, many times resulting in small microtears and hence plantar fasciitis.

The keys to treating plantar fasciitis and tendonitis are rest, ice, stretching and support. Give your foot a break! Cross train with swimming or biking and avoid impact activity on your foot. If you must run, cut back on mileage, avoid hills and speed work and gently stretch before your run, but after a 10 minute warm-up. Ice the area for 20 minutes, after the run. Try to ice for 20 minutes, twice a day. Stretch the calf and/or the arch multiple times throughout the day. Make sure you start with gentle stretching, and avoid overstretching. For plantar fasciitis, night splints are very helpful. Buy supportive shoes and use an over the counter orthotic for support. If you have flatfeet you may need custom made orthotics. If this is a chronic problem, see your podiatrist.

Stress fractures

Stress fractures most commonly occur in the metatarsal bones. The metatarsal bones are the long bones in the middle of the foot. A stress fracture is an incomplete break of the bone. The pain is usually sharp and develops suddenly, but it is not the result of a specific injury or trauma. Stress fractures are more commonly the result of overuse. If you develop a sudden swelling and bruising on the top of your foot, but can’t remember any specific injury, it is time to see your podiatrist. The typical treatment is a surgical shoe (fully rigid shoe) for 4-6 weeks.

Ankle Sprains

Ankle sprains are another common injury in runners, especially in trail runners. The most common ankle sprain is called an inversion ankle sprain. The ligaments on the outside of the ankle tear when the foot turns in and the ankle turns out. There are three ligaments that hold the ankle joint in place on the outside of the ankle. When the ankle is twisted, one or more of these ligaments may be torn. Most ankle sprains involve partial tearing of one or more ligaments. Severe ankle sprains involve partial to complete tears of two or three ligaments.

Very mild ankle sprains may only need an ace bandage and high top shoes for support for a week or two. For more moderate sprains, a lace-up ankle brace and sometimes an aircast are necessary. If there is a considerable amount of swelling, bruising and pain, a visit to the doctor is recommended. An evaluation will be done to assess the stability of the joint and X-rays will be taken to rule out a broken bone. Mild ankle sprains may only take a week or two for full recovery, but most ankle sprains will take about 6 weeks. More severe ankle sprains typically take 3 months and may not feel 90-100% for almost a year. If you experience a severe ankle sprain, consider a visit to a podiatrist. If you have not healed from an ankle sprain after 6 weeks, see a podiatrist.

Blisters

Friction blisters are one of the more common foot injuries in runners. Blisters most commonly develop on the back of the heel, the side of the big toe or in between the toes. A blister is a result of friction, of shearing forces on the skin. The blister is actually a defense mechanism of the body, which occurs when the shearing forces separate the outer layer of skin, the epidermis, from the deeper dermal layer of the skin. Fluid collects between these layers, providing a cushion against the aggravating force while a new layer of skin re-grows underneath.

The best treatment is prevention. Blisters can be prevented with the appropriate socks and proper shoe fit. Sometimes, blisters are unavoidable. Small blisters that are not painful and not infected should be left alone. There is no need to pop and drain these blisters. The most important treatment is to reduce friction and look for the cause. Was the sock folded or crumpled at the toes or heel? Is there stitching in the shoe that is prominent or defective? Is the shoe not fitting properly? You can place moleskin directly on top of small blisters to help reduce friction. Drain larger blisters with a sterilized needle (unless you are diabetic) by punctured the side of the blister and placing gentle pressure with gauze to absorb the fluid. Don’t remove the top layer of skin. This layer is the body’s best protection. Dry the area, but don’t use antibiotic ointment over the area. If you plan to continue running, place moleskin directly over the blister. Pat dry with a towel after each shower and the moleskin should stay on for a number of days. Cut the edges of the moleskin if the corners peel up, but don’t pull off for at least 3 days. This will tear the top layer of skin off and create an open wound. Any blister that has redness, streaking or pus may be infected. You should see your doctor immediately.

Foot & Toenail Fungus

Foot fungus is characterized by peeling, redness and itching on the bottom of the foot and in between the toes. Toenail fungus is characterized by white, splotchy areas on the nail or thickness and yellow discoloration of part of the entire nail. Fungus grows in moist, warm environments, which places runners, in particular, at risk. Foot fungus rarely causes any pain or considerable problems, but is mostly an annoyance. Toenail fungus can cause ingrown nails and thickened nails, both of which can cause pain.

Foot fungus can be treated with over the counter anti-fungal medications in combination with anti-fungal powder and spray in the shoes and eliminating the moist, warm environment. Toenail fungus is much more difficult to treat. The treatments range from simple home remedies to expensive oral medications. Prevention is the best treatment. Decrease the amount of moisture by using wicking socks and make sure to have proper sock and shoe fit.

Sock and Shoe Fit

Avoid cotton socks and use socks with synthetic blends, small fiber wool blends or acrylic. Cotton socks absorb moisture and don’t allow for evaporation. It is important for your sock and shoe combination to allow for wicking. The shoes should have some areas of breathable fabric, like nylon mesh. When picking out shoes, make sure to measure your feet with your socks on. Pick a shoe with a rigid midsole, but has flexibility at the toes. Your toes should have some wiggle room. The general rule is one finger’s width between the longest toe and the tip of the shoe. The heel counter (back of the shoe) should be supportive and not too rigid. It should have some flexibility, but should not collapse when pressed towards the front of the shoe. Above all, the shoe should feel comfortable.

As in many cases, prevention is your best treatment. Proper shoe and sock fit, gentle stretching after warming up and recognizing a problem before it become serious are your keys to staying active and avoiding foot problems.

What's Wrong With a Reverse Osmosis Water Purifier For Home Use?

With all of the shocking news that's come out quite about our water supplies, you may be tempted to get a reverse osmosis water purifier for your home. Filtering your water at home is a good idea, but reverse osmosis might not be the best way to do this. Read this article to find out why.

Home water filtration has become a big issue recently! And there's good reason why.

It's been shown that our water contains traces of everything from pesticides to prescription drugs. If you think your tap water is free from organic impurities, think again! Microorganisms like Giardia or Cryptosporidium that can form cysts are small enough to pass through many municipals' hundred year old filtering systems, and their dormant, cyst state protects them from being killed by chlorine.

Speaking of chlorine! The very chemical we use to sterilize our water is itself toxic. Also, in certain circumstances it can form highly carcinogenic compounds with organic material on the way from the water treatment facility to your tap.

If you think bottled water is the answer, I'm sorry to say that bottled water is no better than tap water. As a matter of fact, the number of federal restrictions that cover bottled water are fewer than those cover tap water.

Beside, bottled water companies spend billions each year trying to convince us their water comes from remote mountain glaciers. The truth is most of it come straight out of a tap, just like your water at home.

To protect the health of your family and yourself, you absolutely must filter your water at home. The only real question is which type of filter to use. Should you use a reverse osmosis water purifier or another type of technology?

Let's talk about how reverse osmosis works in order to answer this question.

Reverse osmosis works by putting pressure on the water to be filtrated so that it passes through a porous membrane. The water passes through, but the impurities do not.

There are two problems with reverse osmosis for home drinking water use. 1) It's very inefficient. You'll waste about three gallons of water for every pure gallon you make. 2) It filters out everything – even the stuff we need in our water so that it tastes good and is healthy for us.

We need certain minerals in our water like calcium, for instance. If your body does not get enough calcium, it leaches it from your own bones!

Calcium and other minerals are in our water naturally in trace amounts. They may be in the water in extremely small quantities, but that's enough for your body to maintain optimum health.

There are other ways to filter and purify your water at home that actually leaves the good stuff in.

New Directions

New research is being carried out extensively to develop better ways of dealing with alcoholism and treating its devastating effects on individuals’ lives and health.

Genetics

It is known now that genetics play a significant role in an individual turning into an alcoholic. Children of alcoholics are more prone to alcoholism. Since alcoholism is a complex disease, many genes are likely to play a part in raising the risk of a person taking to alcohol. Research scientists are searching for these genes and have had partial success in that they have found certain chromosomes where these may possibly be located. New technology may enable scientists to actually identify and measure how much each gene has contributed to the complex disease that is alcoholism. This research will lay a new foundation for treatment and medication related to alcoholism.

Treatment

Researchers have been evaluating current therapies that are commonly used to treat alcohol-related disorders. New therapies are also being worked upon and some progress has been made on this front. There are three major approaches for treatment of alcohol – motivation enhancement therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy and 12-step facilitation therapy. A study has shown that these therapies have helped to substantially arrest drinking in the year following treatment. Further, it was found that one-third of the participants of this study were either still not drinking or were drinking without serious problems three years after the study ended.

Medications

Naltrexone, a new anti-craving medication has been researched by neuroscientists recently. It was found that this drug, in combination with behavioral therapy, treated alcoholism effectively. Since disulfiram, which was approved in 1949, naltrexone is the first medication to have got approval. It acts on the reward circuits of the brain and helps the individual to remain sober after detoxification from alcohol. Acamprosate, another anti-craving medication which is widely used for treatment of alcoholism in Europe, is also likely to be approved in the United States.

Combined medicines and behavioral therapies

The most encouraging results have been observed when medications have been used in combination with behavioral therapy to treat alcoholism. Research and clinical trials are ongoing to find which combination of medications and behavioral therapies have optimum impact.

Further, work is also being done in other areas such as fetal alcohol syndrome, effects of alcohol on the brain and other vital organs, new treatment techniques and strategies to reduce alcohol related problems. It is hoped that in the future, all the above efforts will help diagnose alcoholism at an early stage, provide families with new techniques and approaches and even prevent alcohol related problems.

Dog Food Secrets Review

Growing up in a family comprised of a science professor, multiple registered nurses, and a surgeon, nutrition and health were always common topics at the dinner table.

As a lifelong dog owner interested in dog health and longevity I was curious to find out what Andrew Lewis had to say about the state of commercial dog food. I have spent a good deal of time and research on dog nutrition in the quest for the ultimate objective- keeping my dogs healthy and maximizing their longevity.

My independent research revealed that dogs are frequently classified as geriatric at the ripe young age of 5 years old. Why? Well the number 1 reason is diet. Dogs have nutritional needs that are frequently ignored or simply unfulfilled by otherwise well meaning dog owners who feed their dogs every day commercial dog food.

Veterinarians and dog nutritionists tell us that many commercial dog foods have inadequate proteins, fats vitamins and minerals. Not only that these commercial dog food products are loaded with slaughterhouse waste, toxic materials, junk fillers, heavy metals , pesticides, herbicides, additives , preservatives and more worthless and potentially harmful “ingredients.”

That is not to say that all commercial dog food is bad. But, a lot of it is simply unhealthy and a hazard to your dog’s health and longevity.

With this perspective I read Dog Food Secrets to see if Andrew Lewis would shed any light on this murky mess. As an ardent dog lover I was floored by what I read.

The state of the commercial dog food world is worse than I had imagined. Andrew gives an incredibly detailed look at just what is in dog food and tells you how to decipher what’s in your dog food. He goes on to explain what your dog needs in her food to support a long and healthy life.

In fact, Andrew reveals that your dog’s life is being drastically reduced daily if your are feeding commercial dog food. You are, in reality, killing your dog with some of the “ingredients” commonly found in many commercial dog food brands.

I made fast and furious notes as I read Dog Food Secrets and learned a great deal about healthy alternatives. This was spell binding as I now had a true path to doubling my dogs life expectancy .

With the recent dog food recall by Menu Foods, Purina and Hills Science Diet that have caused approximately 100 brands to be pulled from store shelves, this information is a must have. To date there have been 8000 reported cases of problems from contaminated commercial food that we are feeding our dogs daily. Dogs are suffering from kidney and renal failure as the result of eating commercial dog food tainted with rat poison, and a chemical that is used in the making of plastics and fertilizer as I write this.

Not only that, I learned that dogs are being slowly euthanized every day they eat many commercial dog food brands, and why. Andrew tells us how to put a stop to this slow killing of man’s best friend. If you love your dog, you have to read Dog Food Secrets, print it out and keep it handy every time you go near a dog food aisle in a store.

I will continue to report on dog food that is killing your dog as well as the handful of healthy dog food brands. The sad fact is that the healthy are but a few and the majority are unhealthy and potentially fatal to your dog. No wonder dogs are considered geriatric at 5 years old. Unwittingly, we are depriving them of their nutritional requirements and poisoning our dogs every time we fill their bowl.

To give your dog her best chance at a healthy and long life, up to 27 years or more, read Dog Food Secrets. You’ll be glad you did. I know I am.

Benefits, Risks and Costs of Gastric Bypass Surgery in India

Benefits, Risks and Costs of Gastric Bypass Surgery in India.

What is Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Gastric bypass operations combine the creation of a small stomach pouch to restrict food intake and construction of bypasses of the duodenum and other segments of the small intestine to cause malabsorption (decreased ability to absorb nutrients from food).

Who is Gastric Bypass Surgery for?

Generally, gastric bypass surgery is reserved for people, who are unable to achieve or maintain a healthy weight through diet and exercise, are severely overweight, and who have health problems as a result. Gastric bypass may be considered if:

§                  Patient’s body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher (extreme obesity).

§                  Patient’s BMI is 35 to 39.9 (obesity), and patient have serious weight-related health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and hyper-cholestreamia.

Gastric bypass surgery doesn’t replace the need for following a healthy diet and regular physical activity program. In fact, the success of the surgery depends in part on patient’s commitment to following the guidelines given to patient about diet and exercise. As one considers weight-loss surgery, make sure that you make every effort to exercise , change patient’s eating habits and adjust any other lifestyle factors that have contributed to patient’s excess weight.

How is Gastric Bypass Surgery done?

In gastric bypass the surgeon creates a small pouch at the top of patient’s stomach and adds a bypass around a segment of small intestine.

The surgeon staples patient’s stomach across the top, sealing it off from the rest of stomach. The resulting pouch is about the size of a walnut and can hold about an ounce of food. The pouch is physically separated from the rest of the stomach. Then, the surgeon cuts the small intestine and sews part of it directly onto the pouch. This redirects the food, bypassing most of patient’s stomach and the first section of small intestine, the duodenum. Food enters directly into the second section of small intestine, the jejunum, limiting patient’s ability to absorb calories. Even though food never enters the lower part of patient’s stomach, the stomach stays healthy and continues to secrete digestive juices to mix with food in patient’s small intestine.

Some surgeons perform this operation by using a laparoscope — a small, tubular instrument with a camera attached — through short incisions in the abdomen (laparoscopic gastric bypass). The tiny camera on the tip of the scope allows the surgeon to see inside patient’s abdomen.

What are the benefits of Gastric Bypass Surgery?

In addition to dramatic weight loss, gastric bypass surgery may improve or resolve the following conditions associated with obesity:

§                  Type 2 diabetes

§                  High blood cholesterol

§                  High blood pressure

§                  Obstructive sleep apnea

§                  Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)

The improvements observed in type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high blood cholesterol may significantly decrease the risk of cardiovascular events in individuals who have undergone gastric bypass surgery compared with those treated through other means. Gastric bypass surgery has also shown to improve mobility and quality of life for people who are severely overweight.

Risks Associated With Gastric Bypass Surgery:

. People who undergo this procedure are at risk for:

  • Pouch stretching (stomach gets bigger overtime, stretching back to its normal size before surgery).
  • Band erosion (the band closing off part of the stomach disintegrates).
  • Breakdown of staple lines (band and staples fall apart, reversing procedure).
  • Nutritional deficiencies causing health problems.

Cost for Gastric Bypass Surgery:

Gastric bypass surgery is one very popular form of Obesity surgery which putting things simply causes weight loss by making the stomach smaller. The cost of gastric bypass surgery is not cheap by any means. For an experience surgeon to perform the operation will cost at least $25,000 upwards to $35,000 to get the operation carried out in the US.

But lots of people are getting their surgery done in India for much cheaper. For example, a patient can get an all-inclusive deal in India for quarter of an amount as compared to the USA. Indian hospitals have very well trained surgeons, as good as the US surgeons if not better. The price normally includes pick-up at the airport, hospital, band, physician fees, and pre-op workup. So, all that is needed is to add the cost of a flight.

How Well It Works

Most people who have gastric bypass surgery quickly begin to lose weight and continue to lose weight for up to 12 months. Most patients loose about 75% of the excess weight within the first year itself.

Why go to India for Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Gastric bypass surgery in India has seen a phenomenal growth during recent past. The New Rich – Working From Home Has Never Been So Much Fun!

The New Rich!

It sounds great and I love the phrase! Who and what are the New Rich. Who are these confident successful business people who have learned the skills of Automation, Outsourcing and Time Leverage to become rich in both money and time !.

I recently read a book describing a new breed of entrepreneur. A new type of business person not limited by location, but able to practice their business from any locale in the world. Imagine a multi-million pound business working from home or from the side of a pool in the Maldives via a laptop and a mobile phone. Now imagine, no staff! No stock! No promises rent / rates or even any wages. Starting to sound like a Fairy tale? Having been involved in my internet business I started to perform research into who these New Rich are, but more importantly what they do !.

The system's of manufacturing in the future will be fully automated, requiring 1 man and a dog to run the whole operation! The man will be required to feed the dog, and the dog will be there to stop the man from touching any of the equipment. Automation will be king! As the inevitable offset of automation advances industry, it will have adverse effects on the employee and the number of jobs available in that sector.

As jobs become 'less attractive' the balance of power will move from the employer to the market. The Market is looking for an income to maintain or increase their life style. This growing trend will and has for the most part been responsible for the growing list of successful home based business's emerging over the last few years.

As the market contracts in one area it will expand in another. It's just the way it is. Those individuals who put themselves in the right position to capitalize on growing trends will benefit the most. Working from home and the home based business sector are booming because the traditional employment route is overworked, the system is broken and people are looking for a way out. Lifestyle is driving the market today.

Who is richer the corporate warrior awareness £ 500,000 a year working a 80 hour work week or a home based business entrepreneur, working from home £ 10,500?

With my internet business you can work from any location in the world from a laptop and a mobile phone! All of a sudden £ 50,000 a year from the side of a pool sounds more attractive than £ 500,000 with all the headache that would come with a job of that caliber. With many home based business's today they offer a far more attractive option than the corporate climb.

The New Rich rich have realized the relationship between income and lifestyle can not only be managed but it's a growing market. The thousands of disillusioned employees migrating away from the workplace are becoming the business seekers that are set to dominate the New Richlists of 2010 and onwards. The home business Sector will continue to not only buck the trend but as the skills are learned and implemented the new rich of tomorrow will outsource the larger work loads freeing up there time. The tools of the future the internet will allow those skills to be marketed packaged and delivered electronically allowing huge time leveraging.

Those in the know are ready and even willing to pass on their knowledge and skills to those hungry for the challenge to change there lives from working for a living to designing a life. The power of choice is back for everyone to make.

Lastly Confidence in what we do on a daily basis to deliver the results we are expecting will absolutely be our number one stimulating factor. What I am saying is if you are performing at what you do then you are motivated. The motivation comes from the confidence that doing what your doing is going to deliver the results that your looking for! The link between performance and rusults is our confidence in what we do !.

If your not 100% confident that your present career or business will deliver the results that you would like then are you really motivated to perform?

Cancer Treatment – Organ Specific Cancer Treatments

Organ specific cancer treatments

Certain advanced cancer hospitals manage cancer in an organ specific way, and accordingly oncologists are reserved for treating cancers affecting specific organs only. Accordingly, oncologists have successfully treated breast cancer, head and neck cancer, gynecological cancer, orthopedic cancer, lung cancer, neuro cancer, and liver cancer.

Understanding each organ specific cancer and the treatment available for it

Breast Cancer

It is the commonest of cancers affecting women, and it is believed to be the cancer that has caused the most mortality among women next to lung cancer. The mortality has been the highest among women whose ages were between 45 and 55. Breast cancer is curable if it is diagnosed at an early stage, and if the necessary treatments are carried out immediately following its detection. Breast cancer is growth of breast cells in an uncontrolled manner.

Breast cancer diagnosis

Abnormal presence of a lump

This diagnosis can be carried out by the patient, and the doctor too looks for the presence of abnormally looking lumps through physical breast examinations. Other than a lump, the changes in the breast that doctors look forward to finding is skin dimpling, unusual changes in the size, and or shape of the breast, pulled in nipples as against it being pointed outward when normal, and discoloration of the breast’s skin.

Mammography

Radiologists use mammograms to seek out abnormalities in the breasts. Mammograms are x-ray photographs of the breast that are usually taken by keeping the breasts in a compressed position.

Ultrasound imaging of breasts

Ultrasound imaging is used to examine the breasts, and this technique of using sound waves helps in distinguishing whether a lump that has been noticed in a breast is either a cyst filled with fluid, or a solid one.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI

The MRI of a breast is taken using a strong magnetic field. MRI of the breast becomes necessary in certain situations to properly diagnose breast cancer.

Biopsy

The biopsy of the breast becomes necessary when the oncologist has a strong suspicion of cancer being present. A core needle biopsy is performed on the suspect area of the breast to either confirm the disease, or rule it out.

The benefit of early breast cancer detection

Detection of breast cancer can be made at an early stage through screening. Screening refers to the various tests and examinations that are carried out on the breasts of a person to detect the disease at the earliest, even before the actual symptoms of the disease starts to show. Usually breast cancers that can be felt and detected are cancers that have grown larger in size and that which in usual cases has spread to regions outside the breast. The treatment in such cases is very complex. Breast cancers can be treated successfully if it is detected very early, and before the actual cancer symptoms starts to show.

Breast cancer treatment

Breast cancer is treated either through local treatment or systemic treatment.

Local treatment of breast cancer involves removal, destruction, or controlling the growth of cancerous cells in the breast. Local treatment by surgery is also known by the names mastectomy, and it is also referred to as lumpectomy. This is a breast preserving therapy. The other local treatment is the use of radiation therapy. Radiation therapy involves use of a high energy radiation beam to destroy the cancer cells. Advanced equipment like LINAC helps in focusing the radiation beam on to the cancer cells, and minimizes, or avoids causing damage to the surrounding healthy cells.

Systemic treatment becomes necessary if the breast cancer has spread to other parts of the body. This treatment is therefore used to control and destroy cancer cells across the body. The various therapies that are used in this treatment include chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and biological therapy.

Chemotherapy involves the use of drugs to kill or control cancer cells. Hormone therapy involves use of certain drugs that inhibit production of certain hormones in the body, like estrogen, which can aid in the revival of cancerous breast cells that manage to remain in the body post the surgery of the breast. Biological therapy involves use of the body’s immune system in fighting and destroying cancerous cells.

Thus cancer hospitals that offer breast cancer treatments are equipped with a robust team of breast surgeons, plastic surgeons, medical oncologists and other associated staff, they have with them advanced machinery for diagnosis and treatment, and they also have the facilities of advanced ICUs for apt patient management and recovery.

Lung cancer

Lung cancer is associated with uncontrolled growth of cells in either one, or both of the lungs. These cells do not develop into healthy lung tissue, but rather becomes abnormal cells which further continue to divide forming lumps of tissues which are identified as tumors.

Diagnosis

The symptom that is commonly associated with lung cancer is shortness of breath and presence of wheezing. Certain other symptoms like chest pain, fatigue, appetite loss, presence of blood in the sputum while coughing, persistent cough, unanticipated loss of weight, and coughing out blood, are also associated with lung cancer. Presence of these symptoms together with reports from many other procedures will be used by physicians in diagnosing the presence or absence of lung cancer. Imaging techniques like X-Rays of chest, bronchoscopy, MRI, CT, and PET scans, are also used to diagnose lung cancer. Further, the patient is also subject to a physical examination by the physician, and an analysis of the patient’s sputum is also made. All these examinations and procedures will reveal the presence of lung cancer, and also the location of the tumor, and also information about the presence or absence of the disease anywhere else in the body.

Lung cancer treatment

There are many factors which influence lung cancer treatment, and the factors on which lung cancer treatment is dependent on includes, the type of the cancer, the stage or how far the cancer has spread, the age of the patient, his or her health status, and many other personal characteristics of the patient. There is no particular treatment for lung cancer, and patients often receive treatment which is a combination of palliative care and multiple therapies. The foremost of lung cancer treatment therapies include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The patient will also be exposed to therapies that have been recently developed which include gene therapy, hormone therapy, and also immunotherapy.

The treating team comprises of radiation oncologists, thoracic surgeons, medical oncologists, onco medical social workers, and so forth.

Orthopedic cancer

Orthopedic cancer involves musculoskeletal tumors that affect the pelvis, limbs, and spine. Orthopedic cancerous tumors that are usually seen in children and adolescents are Ewings sarcoma and Osteosarcoma. Cancerous tumors that are more common among adults are chondrosarcoma, metastasis, and multiple myeloma. These tumors are considered to be rare, and the exact cause that leads to their formation has remained a mystery till date.

Patients who are affected with these tumors have persistent pain in their back or limbs, and this pain will not subside with medications or rest. Paralysis and hand or foot weaknesses are symptoms patients with spine tumors usually present with.

Orthopedic cancer diagnosis

Clinical examination by a specialist and further investigations becomes necessary to diagnose orthopedic cancer; mere physical examinations of bone and soft tissue swellings will never reveal the presence of orthopedic cancerous tumor. The investigations that are usually carried out include X-Ray, MRI, PET, CT, and Bone scan. Biopsy is necessary to confirm the diagnosis.

Orthopedic cancer treatment

Tumors like Ewings sarcoma and Osteosarcoma needs a combination of treatment therapies which starts with chemotherapy, which is then followed by surgery, and eventually involves radiotherapy. Surgical treatments become necessary to treat benign tumors, and tumors like chondrosarcoma. The quality of life of patients suffering from bone metastasis can be considerably improved by subjecting them to palliative surgeries. Procedures are customized in accordance with patients when limbs or arms need to be saved from amputation. Cancer hospitals make the necessary provisions for prosthetic substitutions when amputation surgeries become necessary.

There are no known methods to prevent the occurrence of musculoskeletal tumors, and these tumors are considerably rare. Since prevention is ruled out, early detection alone can lead to proper treatment. Further, advancements in technology in the recent times has brought forward the possibility of liberating patients from definite limb or arm amputations when they are affected with bone cancers. But, amputation can be avoided only when the cancer is detected at an early stage. Numerous patients have been treated and were rehabilitated, and they are now in a position to lead a normal life; these patients have benefited from the advancements made in technology, which has made complex surgeries simpler.

Cancer hospitals use advanced technologies for soft tissue sarcoma tumor excisions including Brachytherapy, and also use of LINAC for external radiation therapy.

The orthopedic cancer treatment team of cancer hospitals comprises of medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, physiotherapists, and so forth.

Patients seeking treatment for musculoskeletal tumors can also benefit from numerous services including, limb salvaging surgery while being treated for malignant tumors, benign bone tumor management, pelvic and spine tumor surgery, treatment for skin malignancy, soft tissue sarcoma treatment, and so forth.

Head and Neck Cancer

Head and Neck Cancer are cancers affecting the Upper Aero Digestive Tract, or UADT, cancers that affect the region between the collar-bone and the brain, and cancers that originate at glands like thyroid and parotid.

Diagnosis

A good physical examination under the hands of a competent oncologist will reveal the presence of head and neck cancer. Biopsy of the affected region will give an accurate confirmation. Lumps are explored by means of a Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology, or FNAC.

Head and Neck cancer treatment

The head and neck area is associated with the personality of a person. Further, the various important functional areas, which also involve a person’s senses like sight, smell, auditory, taste, speech, and swallowing, are present in this region. Hence, the treatment of cancers affecting the head and neck area needs to be a balanced one, the treatment should not compromise the aesthetics, or the functions of the sensory organs, but concurrently the treatment should be effective in containing the cancer. Thus, the most advanced of head and neck cancer treatments that are carried out is aimed at preserving the functions of the sensory organs and simultaneously controlling cancer in an effective way. Either surgery or radiation therapy is sufficient during the early stages of the onset of head and neck cancer. But, surgery combined with radiation therapy becomes necessary during the advanced stages of head and neck cancer. Chemotherapy too is used along with radiotherapy to enhance the potentiality of radiotherapy.

Further, head and neck cancer treatments also benefits from the advancements made in the domain of reconstructive surgery. These advancements has made it possible to preserve the functionality of vital sensory organs, and thereby improving the quality of life of the affected individual. Some of the surgery advancements that have aided head and neck cancer treatments include micro vascular tissue transfer, functional neck surgery, jaw preserving surgery, and so forth. Further, advanced machinery for external radiotherapy like LINACs has made it possible to deliver high intensity radiations in a precise way to tumors that are deep-seated, and also sparing vital anatomy in the vicinity of the tumor. LINACs have greatly reduced the treatment duration too.

The additional conservative services that a patient can also benefit from while being treated for head and neck cancer includes head and neck surgery, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, preservation of voice, restoration of speech, micro-vascular regeneration, speech rehabilitation, faciomaxillary surgery, prosthodontic treatments, and so forth.

Liver Cancer

All cancers and tumors affecting the liver have come to be known as liver cancer, and this includes primary liver tumors, and secondary liver tumors also. Primary liver tumors are liver tumors that emanate within the liver, and secondary liver tumors are tumors that have spread to the liver from other cancer affected sites of the body.

Liver cancer diagnosis

Imaging techniques including ultrasound, PET, and, or CT scan is required. Biopsy will or will not be required to establish liver cancer.

Liver cancer treatment

When liver cancer is detected in the early stage, it is usually treated by surgically removing the tumor, or destroying the tumor cells using targeted chemotherapy, which is also known as TACE, or by liver transplantation. There are numerous other factors which also determines the treatment that needs to be undertaken including the condition of the liver, the size of the liver, location, tumor count, the age of the affected person, and the person’s overall health. Further, the risks and the benefits associated with a particular mode of treatment is also dependent on the extension the tumor has achieved, the condition of the liver, and also the health condition of the affected person. In the usual cases, a treatment plan is tailor-made in accordance with the condition of the person being treated.

Patients undergoing liver cancer treatment at advanced cancer hospitals have the benefit of receiving chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy under one roof. Further, these cancer hospitals have liver transplantation programs, and in accordance with these programs certain patients affected with liver cancer have the benefit of undergoing a liver transplant at the hospital they are being treated.

The cancer hospitals treating liver cancer have doctors in their team from various disciplines including hepatobiliary surgery, radiology, oncology, hepatology, pathology, and so forth. The entire team is well-trained and experienced in liver cancer management, and they work in unison at solving complex liver cancer problems.

Gynecological Cancer

Cancers affecting the female reproductive organs have been grouped under gynecological cancer. The cancers included under gynecological cancer include cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, ovarian cancer, vulvar cancer, and uterian cancer.

Gynecological cancer diagnosis

The symptoms that are usually associated with gynecological cancer includes vaginal bleeding that is not normal, swelling or bloating that is persistent in the abdominal region, gain in weight or loss that is questionable, persistent diarrhea, or constipation. Gynecological cancer is diagnosed only after thorough gynecological and clinical examinations. Imaging techniques like ultrasound, CT, and PET/CT scans are also used for accurate diagnosis. Biopsy may or may not be used in the diagnosis procedure.

Gynecological cancer treatment

The treatment is based on the extent of the spread of the cancer, and also on the type of cancer present. The treatment is usually a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and may or may not use radiotherapy. Surgery involves excision of cancerous cells from the affected area. Chemotherapy is the use of drugs to stop, or control the growth of cancer cells in the affected area. The drugs are administered into the body either in the form of pills, or through Intra Venous, or IV injections. Radiotherapy involves the use of high energy radiation beams to kill the cancer cells, or preventing them from spreading further.

Gynecological cancer treatment which spares fertility have been successfully carried out. Ovarian choriocarcinoma which was in stage IV has been successfully treated by sparing fertility using a combination of surgery and chemotherapy.

The services and treatments patients can expect for Gynecological cancer from cancer hospitals includes

· Diagnostic services like hysteroscopy, biopsy, laproscopy, colposcopy, and so forth,

· Ultra-radical and radical surgeries like Wertheim’s hysterectomy, radical vagino-abdominal surgery, and Japanese radical surgery for cancer at stage II B, are carried out to treat uterine cervix cancer. Para-aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy are also carried out as part of the procedure.

· Neo-vagina creation, urethral stricture treatment, vaginal dryness treatment, and so forth

· Adjuvant radiotherapy, and chemotherapy too is provided on a patient basis, as need be.

Neuro Cancer

Tumors affecting the brain, spinal cord, and the peripheral nerves are treated as Neuro cancers. Abnormal growth of cells in the brain leads to brain tumor. Likewise, abnormal cell growth in the spinal cord, and peripheral nerves leads to spinal cord tumors and peripheral nerve tumors, respectively.

Symptoms

Blurred vision, neurological defects, vomiting, persistent headaches, seizures, and so forth, are symptoms associated with brain tumors.

Back pain, disturbances in the bowels and bladder, pain in the limbs and arms, weakness associated with limbs and arms, and so forth are some of the symptoms associated with spinal cord cancer.

Swelling, feeling of weakness, pain, and so forth are symptoms associated with peripheral nerve tumors.

Neuro cancer diagnosis and treatment

Imaging techniques including CT, MRI, PET/CT scans are used for diagnosis.

The foremost technique of tackling neuro cancers is surgery. Tumors of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves are surgically removed. A thorough histological diagnosis can be achieved of the tumor, as a result of this surgical intervention. Further, physical removal of the tumor also relieves the affected person of the cancer symptoms. The surgery also paves the way for a brisk recovery. The surgery can be followed by other treatment methods such as chemotherapy, and radiotherapy.

Any person affected with neuro cancer becomes eligible for neuro cancer treatment. But, early detection of neuro cancer helps annihilate the disease entirely. Tumors of the brain, spinal cord, or the peripheral nerves need immediate treatment, and if they are left untreated they can become life threatening at a later date. With advancements in technology, neuro cancer treatment has become significantly safe and manageable. Further, the treatment time, and thereby the required days of stay in the hospital has been considerably reduced.

Advanced cancer hospitals use numerous top-notch techniques in the treatment of neuro cancers including stem cell therapy, cerebral micro dialysis, and so forth. Mouth Yeast Infection Natural Cures

Mouth yeast infections, or oral thrush as it are commonly known can be a very annoying and uncomfortable problem. The infection is caused by the Candida Albicans yeast that lives in all of our mouths almost from birth. It only starts causing problems when the harmless yeast is allowed to mutate because something has caused your natural defences to be compromised. This article goes into more detail on the causes and natural cures.

Mouth yeast infections usually effect one of the following people…

Individuals who have difficulty in keeping their mouth clean
People who wear dentures, or more so, if they’re ill-fitting dentures
People with diabetes
People who take prescription steroids
People who have a history of antibiotics use
People who take medications that cause a dry mouth are also more likely to get an outbreak of oral thrush
People with weakened immune systems are open to many infections and oral thrush is one of them

White spots on the tongue are usually the first sign of Candida overgrowth in the mouth. When these are wiped off, the skin underneath is usually red and raw. If you wear dentures then the infected area will usually be a red patch underneath the denture. Mouth Candida is usually painless but can cause discomfort in extreme cases.

Corners of the lips can get infected, and this is also known as angular cheilitis or angular stomatitis.

Before you can successfully treat your fungal mouth infection you need to discover the cause. Once this is done the chances of a cure are more likely.

Easy to use home remedies for mouth thrush are…

A mouthwash made with a few tablespoons of water with a couple of drops of tea tree oil. Just wash the mouth out like you normally would with a dental mouth wash, and then rinse thoroughly. Make sure you don’t ingest any of the mouthwash as tea tree oil is toxic. It is safe to use however providing you use it correctly.

Another home cure for a mouth yeast infection is live, natural, sugar free yogurt. The bacteria in live yogurt live naturally in your mouth, and mouth thrush means your friendly bacterial levels are low. Just hold the yogurt in your mouth for about 5 minutes, and you can do this 2 or 3 times a day.

If your symptoms persist or get worse then it’s a good idea to go back to your doctor.

The 4 Main Types of Renewable Energy

As the world reaches its energy crisis we need to reduce our dependence on non-renewable energy sources, and start generating renewable energy on a massive scale.

To date there are four main types of renewable energy that we can produce: wind power, solar power, hydro power, and geothermic power.

Wind Power:

Wind turbines have been around for millennia, further back than the birth of Christ. Over the years they have been used to pump water, drag boats and grind flour. But at the turn of the industrial revolution, wind turbines were made to produce electricity.

Although many people envision windmills as those ornate ones in Holland or the small wind-pumps on farms, they have been developed tremendously in the past decade. Now wind turbines are able to generate thousands of megawatts of power, and when used on a small scale at home, wind power can substitute conventional energy sources, helping households to get off the grid.

Solar Power:

The sun is the most readily available form of energy there is, so we should be using it to a larger extent. And as technology advances, households are provided with a number of ways to harness the power of the sun. These ways include solar electricity, solar heaters, solar dryers and solar cookers.

With solar electric and heating systems, they are both cost-effective, good for the environment, they require little maintenance and help you save on your utility bills. Solar cookers are very healthy way of cooking food, since they cook the food at a lower temperature-helping to retain its vitamins and minerals. They are also very portable, making them ideal for travelers and campers.

Hydro Power:

Initially hydro or water power was used industrially to rivers and waterfalls to power waterwheels that would then be used to move water for irrigation or grind flour.

Today hydro power is used in dams to produce electricity for households and businesses. Hydro-electric power is generate on a large scale where dammed up water is channeled through turbines, which spins a dynamo as it gushes through. The best example of hydro-electric power would be the Hoover Dam, which was built to provide electricity to Las Vegas. In fact hydro-electric power is efficient is popular nowadays that it accounts for over 90% of the worlds renewable energy.

There have been some social and environmental concerns about building dams for hydroelectricity since entire village and communities are flooded by the dam, and the walls prevent certain species of fish from swimming upstream to spawn.

Geothermal Power:

Geothermal power is typically produced in areas with ongoing volcanic activity, where magma is relatively close to the surface. One such area is Iceland, where a large proportion of its power is produced from volcanic geysers.

Here, large power plants are built over the geysers, where hot fast-moving steam from the geysers drives large turbines to make electricity. To speed up the process, water is sometimes pumped back into the geysers to make more steam, which is then used to drive the turbines once again, thus making it an endless cycle.

Well, this concludes our brief overview of the 4 main types of renewable energy. You can find out more in-depth information on each type by reading our other articles or browsing our website in the link below.

Lobelia Herb Treats Respiratory Problems and More

Lobelia (officially lobelia inflata), alias Indian tobacco, was a common herb prescribed by early North American doctors. Its main use was in healing respiratory ailments, such as asthma, bronchitis, pneumonia, and coughs. The plant stem, which has only a few branches, is smooth above while the lower part is rough and hairy. The lower leaves, which are about two inches in length, have stalks, while the upper, smaller ones do not. The pale green or yellowish leaves have a sharp taste and a slightly irritating odor. The sparse flowers are pale violet-blue outside and pale yellow inside.

Lobelia consists of various alkaloids, a bitter glycoside (lobelacrin), a pungent volatile oil (lobelianin), resin, gum, chelidonic acid and fats. The alkaloid lobeline is its main ingredient and namesake. Others include lobelidine, lobelanine, nor-lobelaine, lobelanidine, nor-lobelanidine, and isolobenine, as well as fourteen pyridine alkaloids.

Lobeline works much like nicotine in its effect on the central nervous system but without the addictive properties. In fact, it is a main ingredient of many quit smoking treatments. Lobeline acts as a relaxant overall and is used to treat spastic colon and muscle problems. It also dilates the bronchioles, thereby increasing respiration and helping the lungs.

Lobelia’s main use is in treating respiratory problems like bronchitis and pneumonia. It stimulates the adrenal glands to release the hormone epinephrine, which causes the airways to relax. Lobelia is a strong relaxant and clears obstructions. It relaxes the stomach (a common problem in asthmatic children) as it dilates the bronchial passages. In fact, many people have used it to stop asthma attacks in place of inhalants.

Other practical ways to use lobelia’s qualities include these. Rub lobelia tincture or extract on the shoulders of a restless child; this is an excellent way to help him go to sleep. Rub the extract on the gums of a teething baby. Take it internally to expel mucus, remove congestion from the stomach, and to encourage the flow of oxygenized blood. A poultice can be applied for ringworm, bruises, and insect bites. Catnip and lobelia enemas are good for treating mumps in males. As a sedative it is said to rank somewhere between veratrum and aconite.

Use lobelia to treat laryngitis in children and for barking coughs. Ellingwood recommended lobelia for the following pathologies: “spasmodic asthma, spasmodic croup, membranous croup, infantile convulsions, whooping cough, puerperal eclampsia, epilepsy, tetanus, hysterical paraxysms, diphtheria, hysterical convulsions, tonsillitis, pneumonia,” among others.

Lobelia is available for internal use as a dried herb, in a liquid extract form, and as tinctures. Externally, it is available in ointments, lotions, suppositories, and plasters. You can make a tea by mixing 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of the dried herb with eight ounces of water. Then let it steep for 30 to 40 minutes. Take two ounces of this four times a day but, be warned, many think it tastes awful! Take.6 to 2 ml of the tincture each day. This is based on a 150 pound adult. Adjust dosage for children proportionately.

Lobelia is considered a potentially toxic herb. Special care is advised when using it. Signs of lobelia poisoning may include weakness, heartburn, weak pulse, difficulty breathing, and collapse. People with high blood pressure, heart disease, tobacco sensitivity, paralysis, and seizure disorder should not take lobelia. Lobelia is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Lobelia can be an aggressive emetic, even in relatively small doses if the system is highly toxic. The resulting nausea and vomiting, though unpleasant, will be beneficial to the patient.
