Oregano which comes from about 35 plants is widely cultivated in Europe as a culinary herb. Oregano is an upright perennial herb, growing to about 30 inches but can reach heights of six feet. It has square, red stems, elliptical leaves, and clusters of deep pink flowers. It thrives in chalky soils near the sea, and is gathered when in flower during the summer.

  • 2 teaspoons sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons organic garlic powder
  • 2 1/2 teaspoonsorganic  paprika
  • 1 teaspoon organic ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon organic onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon organic cayenne pepper
  • 2  teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons organic dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
    1. Stir together salt, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, onion powder, cayenne pepper, oregano, thyme, and red pepper flakes until evenly blended. Store in an airtight container.

    • 5 cloves garlic, sliced
    • 1 onion chopped
    • 4 tablespoons olive oil
    • 3 (15 ounce) cans seasoned tomato sauce
    • 3 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes with juice
    • 6 cups water
    • 8 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
    • 2 pounds sweet Italian sausage
    • 2 pounds ground sirloin
    • 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, divided
    • 1 cup grated Romano cheese
    • 2 1/4 1/4 tablespoons dried oregano
    • salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 pound pork meat, cubed
    • 1 cup dry bread crumbs
    • 3 tablespoons garlic powder
    • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    • 2 eggs
    1. In large pot heat 2 tablespoons olive oil over low heat. Add chopped onion and two-thirds of sliced garlic. Saute 5 minutes. Add tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, water and tomato paste. Simmer.
    2. Meanwhile, in large skillet, heat remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Saute remaining garlic 1 to 2 minutes. Add sausage and brown, about three minutes on each side. After browning, cover and reduce heat. Cook for 10 minutes, remove from heat, and cut sausages into halves. Add to tomato mixture.
    3. Cook pork over medium heat in sausage skillet until brown. Add to tomato mixture. Add 3 tablespoons parsley, Romano, oregano, salt and pepper to tomato sauce. Continue to simmer over low heat.
    4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Cover a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. In large bowl combine ground sirloin, bread crumbs, garlic powder, remaining parsley, parmesan and eggs. Form 1 inch balls and place on cookie sheet. Cook until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Add meatballs to sauce. Continue to cook sauce for 5 hours. Serve over fusilli or ravioli.

    The Importance of Tolerance

    In today’s world we need tolerance. Tolerance is an important trait that a lot of people don’t have, but need.

    There are three main words that I can get out of the word tolerance that are very important to me.
    One of those words is respect. Respect is a number one step in life, because having respect can get you far in life. If you want respect, you must show respect, even if you feel disrespected, you can still be the bigger person and be respectful and this is when tolerance comes in.

    Another word I get out of tolerance is peace. Peace is a good thing to have. Without peace the world would be a disaster. Peace is not everywhere, and that’s because of gangs and violence, but when you see things like that, you should try to avoid the situation or better the situation. Again, this is when tolerance takes place.

    Courage is another word that we need in life. It really takes a lot of courage to say “no” to bad things. When peer-pressure steps in, you still need to be strong enough to say “no”, and that is when courage is really important. Courage can also mean stepping into a bad situation, like seeing a little getting bullied and stopping it.

    One of the greatest attributes of tolerance is when you can take more then what you can put out. When people are putting it on you and you just take it without hitting back, this will make you a valuable asset to society. It will mold you into a power person that will be able to help others.

    5 Stewardship Bible Verses for Daily Sustenance

    We must interpret Bible verses in context and realize it is God’s will we seek, not ours. Stewardship Bible verses or other Bible verses are significant to followers of Jesus because they could guide them to the abundant life that Jesus promised.

    Christians are stewards of God’s resources. We become better stewards when we learn to deal God’s way with anxiety, trust, temptation, people, and when we confess our sins to Jesus regularly.

    Memorizing Bible verses helps us handle daily life-issues God’s way. That’s why I was thrilled, though astonished, when I discovered in an attic, five stewardship Bible verses dealing with anxiety, trust, temptation, people, and confession.

    Shortly after I surrendered my life to Jesus the Messiah in 1985, I had a vision of an attic with five large colored boxes. Each box had a huge bold letter from the word attic. Below each letter was a word beginning with that letter, and a Bible verse. Many mornings as I jogged, this picture became more lucid.

    One morning about 5:00 AM while jogging in Brisbane, Australia, the picture of the attic was so vivid I returned to my hotel to try to process what was happening. At the hotel, I transcribed the vision.

    As I reflected on this vision, I realized it referred to my daily walk with Jesus. It seemed to be the base for a structured way to have extra time with the Lord. I sensed my attic was a way for me to withdraw regularly to see God’s hand in the moment.

    These are five words on five boxes in my attic, each with its stewardship Bible verse:

    1. Anxiety – Philippians 4:6-7
    2. Trust – Proverbs 3:5-6
    3. Temptation – 1 Corinthians 10:13
    4. Inner Focus – 1 Samuel 16: 6-7
    5. Confession – 1 John 1:9

    Anxiety

    Two to three times daily I check to see whether events are overtaking me, and I am becoming, or am anxious. Perhaps I am in a stressful meeting, or working to a tight deadline.

    When I sense anxiety, I withdraw to a quiet place, often the bathroom, and mull over Philippians 4:6-7. These verses remind me not to be anxious but pray, be thankful to God, give him my concerns, and he will give me a profound peace.

    I present my situation to God, ask him to help me accept where I am, what I have, and give me peace to deal with it. The goal is his peace, not a solution to the issue. Recalling these verses several times daily, praying and believing them help me see alternatives. It is difficult to evaluate situations when tensed and anxious.

    Trust

    This is my great challenge. I try to do things in my own strength instead of leaning on Jesus. That’s why daily as my activities challenge me, I withdraw often to evaluate how I am doing, and recall Proverbs 3:5-6. These stewardship Bible verses tell me to trust in the Lord and lean on him, and he will make my path straight. This does not mean I will get the solution I seek; merely, that when I work to God’s goals, with his help, I do his will, and I get a peace that’s difficult to understand.

    Temptation

    One of the great assurances in the Bible is this stewardship Bible verse: 1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV):


    No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

    Daily, I must remember that I can’t blame anyone when I fall. The Devil did not “make me do it.” Faced with temptation, I pray this verse and ask God to help me see and follow his path. I know it is there and I need his strength to override my fleshly desires. Still, sometimes I reject his path.

    Inner Focus

    When Samuel went to Jesse’s house to anoint the next king of Israel, as Jesse’s boys entered the room, Samuel saw Eliab and from his external appearances thought he must be the one. God told Samuel he did not choose Eliab. God reminded Samuel that God looks on the inside but people look on the outside (1 Samuel 16:6-7).

    Often I have withdrawn and prayed this verse, particularly when I interview, counsel, or meet someone. I know external appearances influence my thinking, and so I must seek God’s help regularly to overcome this flaw.

    Confession

    Happily, at day’s end I review events, go to the attic, and recollect 1 John 1:9. I ask the Lord to show me incidents I need to confess. I confess, repent and ask him to cleanse me. He does, as promised.

    Summary

    Daily, being conscious of these stewardship Bible verses heighten my awareness for good stewardship in all aspects of life, not only with money.

    Frequent withdrawals to my attic to seek God’s guidance to respond to events allow me to live in the moment and increase time with him.

    Time in my attic has shown me how to be more alert and responsive to the presence of the Lord in daily activities.

    Broken Blood Vessels Cause Dark Circles Under Eyes

    Millions of people have dark circles under eyes. Most have inherited the color and characteristics of their lower eyelid from their parents. Dark circles under eyes often appear during childhood, many people telling me they first noticed their dark circles when they were 9 or 10 years old.

    There are many causes of dark circles under eyes, but in this article I am going to focus on broken blood vessels, small vascular (blood vessel) structures in the lower eyelid skin. Broken blood vessels are the easiest cause of dark circles under eyes to treat and correct.



    How Broken Blood Vessels Cause Dark Circles under Eyes?

    Actually what most people call broken blood vessels are not really broken blood vessels. What most people see are visible blood vessels (vascular structures) on the skin in areas that they do not expect to see blood vessels. These small vessels are arterioles, venules, and capillaries. Arterioles carry fresh blood to the skin and venules take old blood away from the skin, back to the heart and lungs to be refreshed with oxygen. Capillaries connect the arterioles and venules.

    Normally blood vessels are deeper in the skin and not visible. Visible or broken blood vessels become noticeable in the following situations:

    o Thin Skin– The eyelid skin is the thinnest skin in the body. The eyelid skin is only 1/6 the thickness of the skin on the rest of the face. The skin is so thin that you can see through it. You can actually see the small arterioles and venules in the skin of the eyelid. These same structures are present in all skin but are not visible in thicker skin elsewhere in the body. The lower eyelid muscle is purple, and this color is visible through the eyelid skin. That is why all lower eyelids have a darker color. This color is what most people refer to as dark circles under eyes.

    o Telangiectasias or Spider Veins– The arterioles, venules and capillaries in dark circles under the eyes can be dilated or enlarged a condition called telangiectasia or often referred to as spider veins. Telangiectasias are most often caused by heredity. However, aging, pregnancy, use of topical steroid cream, excessive exertion such as weight lifting, and Rosacea also can cause telangiectasia.

    o Aging and Inflammation– Ultraviolet radiation and other skin aging factors produce inflammation or irritation of the skin, especially the thin skin around the eyes. When eyelid skin is inflamed, new arterioles, venules and capillaries vessels grow into the skin to repair the damage. These new structures stay in the skin and are visible. The presence of these vascular structures darkens the color of the lower eyelid skin and can appear as dark circles under eyes.

    How to Remove Dark Circles under Eyes Caused by Broken Blood Vessels

    Lasers can remove Telangiectasias, and small vascular structures under the eyes, but newer light based treatments are safer and better. The newer technique called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or photo facial is a much gentler procedure that is very effective and does not leave marks or white areas under the eye, a major problem with older laser techniques.

    o IPL- Photo Facial-Intense pulsed light (IPL) is not a laser. IPL uses a bright flash of visible light which is tuned to be absorbed by the specific color of blood. The light passes through the skin without injuring the skin and is preferentially absorbed by the blood in the small Telangiectasias, venules, arterioles and capillaries. The light energy causes the blood to boil and the heat causes the wall of the structure to shrink and close. The process takes about 6 weeks.

    Usually 3 IPL treatments scheduled 6 weeks apart are required to lighten the color of the skin causing the dark circle under the eye. Eye shields must be placed on the eye to protect the eye from the light. IPL is the best treatment for Rosacea.

    o Laser– Two laser wavelengths are specifically absorbed by blood -the 532nm and 1064nm laser wavelengths. The 1064nm laser is usually too strong to be used on the eyelids. The 532nm laser is the one more commonly used on the lower eyelids. However, because the laser is so strong, the eyelid skin is often damaged and a scar or white area on the eyelid skin can occur.

    Since IPL has been developed, the laser is no longer the choice for treating the eyelids. Eye shields must be placed on the eye to protect the eye from the laser.

    o Vein Injections– Very large and noticeable veins on the lower eyelid can be closed by injecting a sclerosing solution that is most commonly used on the lower legs to treat spider veins. This is a very tricky procedure and should only be done by an expert experienced in this technique.

    o Fractional laser resurfacing to thicken skin– New fractional laser resurfacing techniques are safe to use on the eyelids with eye protective shields in place. These new fractional laser techniques plump or thicken the lower eyelid skin and lighten the color. Thicker lower eyelid skin helps camouflage the vessels and Telangiectasias.

    Prevention

    Inherited eyelid skin color cannot be prevented. However there are things we can do to prevent new telangiectasia and vascular structures from forming and making the skin color darker. Since Ultraviolet radiation from the sun causes inflammation and new vascular growth, sun protection is the most important.

    o Sun block– Always make sure that you apply sun block to the eyelids when you apply sun block to your face.

    o Eye protection-Always wear protective sunglasses that cover the crow’s feet areas as well as the eyes.

    Although there is no clear explanation for this upsurge in the incidence of osteoporosis among older women, poor diets and sedentary lifestyle are suspected to play a role. In fact, a recent National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey concluded that many Americans particularly women, ethnic minorities, and the socially disadvantaged are not meeting the current recommendations for adequate calcium and vitamin D intake through diet alone or with calcium and vitamin D supplements.

    Another factor implicated in the steep rise in osteoporosis cases is too much coffee drinking among older women. There is growing evidence that caffeine decreases blood calcium levels by increasing calcium excretion in urine, and this increases the risks of fracture and osteoporosis. In a study published in 2001, for example, postmenopausal women who consumed 300 milligrams of caffeine a day lost more bone mass in the spine compared to women who consumed less than 300 milligrams a day.

    So, is there something a woman can do to slow down bone loss? Many experts believe that the results of these new surveys amount to a wake-up call to all women to take immediate steps to protect themselves against the debilitation of osteoporosis. The current health advice is that older women should begin by ensuring that they meet their daily calcium and vitamin D requirements through diet alone or with supplements.

    What Can You Do For Your Hiatus Hernia?

    What is a hiatus hernia?

    Your diaphragm is a sheet of muscle across your abdominal area below your lungs which assists with your breathing. Your esophagus, that is, your gullet through which food passes from your mouth to your stomach, passes through a small opening in your diaphragm. This is the weakest part of your diaphragm. A hiatus hernia occurs when a section of your esophagus and stomach protrudes through that opening upwards into your chest cavity.

    The symptoms of a hiatus hernia usually include heartburn and swallowing difficulties. At times Inflammation of the esophagus can occur and this is an additional complication.

    If you have any of these symptoms indicative of a hiatus hernia, there are a number of things you can do to help these. However there are two important provisos:

    • you should not assume that because you have some of these symptoms, that you do actually have a hiatus hernia – you should see your doctor for an accurate diagnosis;

    • if you are diagnosed with hiatus hernia and are attempting some of the following suggested treatments and there is any change in your symptoms, or they get worse, you should see your doctor immediately.

    What can you do for your hiatus hernia?

    • instead of having three larger meals each day eating several smaller meals will help by putting put less pressure on your stomach;

    • do not lie down after eating. You should always wait at least two hours, preferably longer before lying down. By waiting this long it means that most of your food will have passed through your stomach into your small intestine and so is no longer likely to flow back into your esophagus. This also means that you should not eat before going to bed at night – avoid supper;

    • you should avoid foods and beverages that aggravate symptoms of reflux – these include citrus fruits, alcohol, and caffeine-containing drinks such as tea, coffee and cola;

    • wait at least two hours after eating before you do any exercise;

    • for sleeping, raise the head of your bed by about four to six inches. This will help stop stomach acid from moving upwards into your esophagus while you are asleep;

    • if you are able to do so, avoid using pillows in your bed as raising your head can often put additional pressure on your abdomen;

    • where possible, avoid bending over or stooping, especially after eating;

    • do not attempt to lift very heavy objects that cause you to strain;

    • avoid wearing tight clothing that restricts your chest and stomach.

    • if you are a smoker – give up! Smoking increases stomach acid reflux.

    • losing weight is one of the most important things you can do to reduce the pressure on your stomach and reduce symptoms. If you are overweight, you should discuss with your doctor a safe weight loss plan suitable for you.

    Building some or all of these lifestyle changes into your daily routines should bring about improvement in the symptoms of your hiatus hernia. But you should always remember the two provisos given above:

    • if you have acid reflux, and perhaps some associated pain you should not just assume that you have a hiatus hernia – you should consult your doctor to get an accurate diagnosis;
