OCD Forum – Extreme Measures For OCD

One thing that you should understand about OCD is that it is like mental torture.

If you have not experienced this, consider yourself blessed.

What's really crazy about it is that it's you that's driving yourself crazy and making yourself miserable!

As a result people have done some strange things to try to treat their OCD.

Here are a few …

Hypnosis: Even though it can be an effective tool against OCD, not everyone is susceptible to it. I would not recommend it because you do not want to have to rely on someone else to hypnotize you. I truly feel that if you face the OCD yourself and work through it, it will be gone for life and you'll learn some valuable skills that you can use to control your thoughts that will empower you for the rest of your life! You can not pay for training like this! So take advantage of it.

Using harsh drugs, suicide, committing crimes, among many other disturbing things. People have done all sorts of crazy things to either accept or escape from OCD. I would recommend NONE of the things I just listed. Instead here's the best way to start becoming OCD free for life …

Step 1: Realize that OCD is caused by anxiety which is caused by a fear or fears.

Step 2: Realize that OCD is curable and that you can and will get over it for good.

Step 3: Refuse to perform rituals

Step 4: Let the anxiety of not performing the ritual wash over you, knowing it will not hurt you.

Step 5: Repeat

This seems like a grueling process, and it is, sometimes people can not or will not do this on their own, and there are a lot of programs out there that can assist with this. Do your own research and choose the one that's right for you.

Take action: Follow the above steps to get started in the right direction. Also seek out a good program that you like and feel comfortable with that can help you put all the pieces together and guide you to an OCD free life, period.

Schizophrenia Symptoms: Identify Them and Save Our Loved Ones

Schizophrenia is often mistaken as multiple personalities or split personality. As a matter of fact, it is a condition in which a person is split off from reality. This disorder is not rare; it is found in 1 out of 100 people. It is also not true that schizophrenia sufferers are dangerous. Despite their delusional thoughts and hallucinations, people with the disorder are not a threat to other people. The two symptoms above are the most common symptoms of this disorder. Delusional thoughts cause the person to believe in something that is not true. Often times, this person will express their ideas or belief to others and force them to believe. On the other hand, hallucinations happen when a person hear or see things which are not there. Other schizophrenia symptoms include disorganized speech and behavior that makes the sufferer talk in bizarre ways, starting a topic and ending it with a completely different topic, and responding to questions by giving totally unrelated answers. Another tell-tale sign is the lack of emotions.

If you notice that some of your loved ones seem to detach themselves from the world, it is a good sign that they are suffering from schizophrenia symptoms. People with this disorder always think and believe that others are watching them all the time and trying to hurt them. They are always suspicious with everything that is going on around them, and they think that the whole world is conspiring against them. Those people often experience severe depression, over sleeping, insomnia and inappropriate laughter or crying. They may also pay little or no attention to the way they look; men suffering from this condition usually don’t bother to shave or shower whilst women no longer put on makeup or take a good care of their appearance. Therefore, schizophrenics usually have messy hair and dark circles under their eyes due to lack of sleep.

Everything that is going on in these people’s lives scares them and thus they isolate themselves from the world. They will also neglect their regular activities and people who try to get close to them. This will lead to poor performance at work or in school. Co-workers and school mates may start to stay away from schizophrenia sufferers due to their strange and irrational behavior. However, it is not true that people suffering from this mental disorder cannot be helped. With the support and affection from family and friends, those suffering from the condition can be cured. They will be able to get their normal life back and live it to the fullest. Hence, the ability to identify schizophrenia symptoms is crucial in order to help those suffering from the condition.

What Are the Worst Symptoms of Menopause?

Most women over the age of 40 have heard of menopause, although many don’t know enough about it to know what to expect when it arrives. Perhaps you are in the same boat, you know about the “hot flashes” and maybe one or two symptoms from your mother talking about the symptoms of menopause. But if you don’t have a really good idea what to expect, let’s go over the real details of these symptoms so you will be ready when they arrive.

Besides just hot flashes, there are quite a few more symptoms that can be ready to make a woman’s life a real pain – sometimes literally. How about headaches? Some women are more sensitive to chemicals and certain foods when they go through menopause and headaches are common. Stress of course is another big cause of headaches, which is not hard to imagine when hormones are plummeting one day, and nearly skyrocketing the next!

Ok, let’s move on to some other symptoms you may not have heard about, such as mood swings. This can be lumped into the larger category of “emotional issues” – which include irritability, depression, anxiety, and just plain lack of interest. These symptoms are fairly common as well and usually come around only when a woman’s period is arriving, which may not be on time after awhile due to the previously mentioned fluctuation in hormone levels. This of course is another big symptom you may have, the your menstrual cycles are becoming very irregular. Some women will actually skip a month, which may seem like a good thing, but then an extended period will certainly make up for it.

Add another symptom to the list – dry skin that won’t quit! This one is almost always attributed to old age of course. But there really is a connection to menopause as well, due to the estrogen decreasing during menopause. This causes collagen and the elastin that is in skin to begin to degenerate which causes wrinkles, which is usually related to the estrogen decrease. As the skin starts to lose it’s flexibility many women lose the fatty layer just under the skin as well. That causes the hollow look as women get older sometimes, but using a moisturizing skin cream with progesterone in it can certainly help.

How about incontinence? This symptom of menopause can be quite embarrassing, and there are few cures. Bouts of incontinence can be due to hormonal imbalances around this time of a woman’s life. Producing less estrogen can actually cause the lining of the bladder to weaken, which may cause lack of control of bladder movement. The older a woman gets, the harder it is to hold back the urine. Of course there are exercises that can be done to strengthen these muscles, mostly kegels that help build up the muscles surrounding the urethra.

If your symptoms of menopause are straining your sanity to the limit, perhaps it’s time to seek a solution. Find out about your options, especially the many herbal remedies that can help ease your symptoms.

Health – Entering a Hospital

A hospital is driven by the goal of saving lives. It may range in size and service from a small unit that provides general care and low-risk treatments to large, specialized centers offering dramatic and experimental therapies. You may be limited in your choice of a hospital by factors beyond your control, including insurance coverage, your physician’s hospital affiliation, and type of care available.

Before entering a hospital, you should be aware of possible dangers. Well-known hospital hazards are unnecessary operations, unexpected drug reactions, harmful or even fatal blunders, and hospital borne infections. The Institute of Medicine recently identified three areas in which the health-care system, in general, and hospitals and their staff, in specific, often fall short: the use of unnecessary or inappropriate care (too many antibiotics), underused of effective care (too few immunizations or Pap smears), and shortcomings in technical and interpersonal skills . The greatest single danger that a hospital presents is infection, which is largely preventable.

What can lay people do to ensure proper and safe care while in the hospital? The following guidelines should be considered.

If you have a choice of hospitals, inquire about their accreditation status. Hospitals are subject to inspection to make sure they are in compliance with federal standards. Policies implemented in 1989 require the release of information on request to state health departments regarding a hospital’s mortality rate, its accreditation status, and its major deficiencies.

Before checking into a hospital, you need to decide on your accommodations. Do you want to pay extra for a single room? Do you want a nonsmoker for a roommate? Do you need a special diet? Do you need a place to store refrigerated medicine? If someone will be staying with you, will they need a cot? You should try to avoid going in on a weekend when few procedures are done. When you get to your room, you should speak up immediately if it’s unacceptable.

You need to be familiar with your rights as a patient . Hospitals should provide an information booklet that includes a Patient’s Bill of Rights. The booklet will inform you that you have the right to considerate and respectful care; information about tests, drugs, and procedures; dignity; courtesy; respect; and the opportunity to make decisions, including when to leave the hospital.

You should make informed decisions. Before authorizing any procedure, patients must be informed about their medical condition, treatment options, expected risks, prognosis of the condition, and the name of the person in charge of treatment. This is called informed consent. The only times hospitals are not required to obtain informed consent are cases involving life-threatening emergencies, unconscious patients when no relatives are present, and/or compliance with the law or a court order, such as examination of sexually transmitted diseases. If you are asked to sign a consent form, you should read it first. If you want more information, you should ask before signing. If you are skeptical, you have the right to post pone the procedure and discuss it with your doctor.

Authorization of a medical procedure may be given nonverbally, such as an appearance at a doctor’s office for treatment, cooperation during the administration of tests, or failure to object when consent can be easily refused. This is called implied consent.

You need to weigh the risks of drug therapy, x-ray examinations, and laboratory tests with their expected benefits. When tests or treatments are ordered, you should ask about their purpose, possible risks, and possible actions if a test finds something wrong. For example, the injection or ingestion of x-ray dyes makes body structures more visible and greatly facilitates a physician’s ability to make a correct diagnosis. However, dyes can cause an allergic reaction that ranges from a skin rash to circulatory collapse and death. Finally, you should inquire about prescribed drugs. You should avoid taking drugs, including pain and sleeping medication, unless you feel confident of their benefits and are aware of their hazards.

When scheduled for surgery, prepare for anesthesia. In rare cases general anesthesia can cause brain damage and death. One cause of such catastrophes is vomiting while unconscious. To reduce the risk, refuse any food or drink that may be offered by mistake in the 8 hours before surgery.

You need to know who is in charge of your care and record the office number and when you can expect a visit. If your doctor is transferring your care to someone else, you need to know who it is. If your doctor is not available and you do not know what is happening, you can ask for the nurse in charge of your case.

You should keep a daily log of procedures, medicines, and doctor visits. When you get your bill, compare each item with your written record. Insist on an itemized bill.

You should stay active within the limits of your medical problem. Many body functions begin to suffer from just a few days’ inactivity. Moving about, walking, bending, and contracting muscles help to clear body fluids, reduce the risk of infections (especially in the lungs), and cope with the stress of hospital procedures that add to the depression and malaise of hospitalization.

You should be alert. Throughout your stay, you can keep asking questions until you know all you need to know. According to some experts, the biggest improvement in health care has not been technological advances; it’s been patients asking questions. The more questions, the fewer mistakes and the more power patients have in the doctor-patient relationship

Selecting a Health-Care Professional

Choosing a physician for your general health care is an important and necessary duty. Only physicians are discussed here, but this information applies to the selection of all health-care practitioners. You must select one who will listen carefully to your problems and diagnose them accurately. At the same time, you need a physician who can move you through the modern medical maze of technology and specialists.

For most people, good health care means having a primary-care physician, a professional who assists you as you assume responsibility for your overall health and directs you when specialized care is necessary. Your primary-care physician should be familiar with your complete medical history, as well as your home, work, and other environments. You are better understood in periods of sickness when your physician also sees you during periods of wellness. Finding a primary-care physician, however, may be difficult. Of the 700,000 doctors in the United States, only 200,000 (less than 30%) are in primary care.

For adults, primary-care physicians are usually family practitioners, once called “general practitioners,” and internists, specialists in internal medicine. Pediatricians often serve as primary-care physicians for children. Obstetricians and gynecologists, who specialize in pregnancy, childbirth, and diseases of the female reproductive system, often serve as primary-care physicians to women. In some places, general surgeons may offer primary care in addition to the surgery they perform. Some osteopathic physicians also practice family medicine. A doctor of osteopathy (DO) emphasizes manipulation of the body to treat symptoms.

There are several sources of information for obtaining the names of physicians in your area:

Local and state medical societies can identify doctors by specialty and tell you a doctor’s basic credentials. You should check on the doctor’s hospital affiliation and make sure the hospital is accredited. Another sign of standing is the type of societies in which the doctor has membership. The qualifications of a surgeon, for example, are enhanced by a fellowship in the American College of Surgeons (abbreviated as FACS after the surgeon’s name). An internist fellowship in the American College of Physicians is abbreviated F ACP. Membership in academies indicates a physician’s special interest.

All physicians board certified in the United States are listed in the American Medical Directory published by the American Medical Association and available in larger libraries. About one fourth of the practicing physicians in the United States are not board certified. This may mean that a doctor failed the exam, never completed training, or is incompetent. It could also mean that the doctor simply has not taken the exam.

The American Board of Medical Specialists (ABMS) publishes the Compendium of Certified Medical Specialties, which lists physicians by name, specialty, and location. Pharmacists can be asked to recommend names.

Hospitals can give you names of staff physicians who also practice in the community.

Local medical schools can identify faculty members who also practice privately.

Many colleges and universities have health centers that keep a list of physicians for student referral.

Friends may have recommendations, but you should allow for the possibility that your opinion of the doctor may be different.

Once you have identified a leading candidate, you can make an appointment. You need to check with the office staff about office hours, availability of emergency care at night or on weekends, backup doctors, procedures when you call for advice, hospital affiliation, and payment and insurance procedure. You should schedule your first visit while in good health. Once you have seen your doctor, reflect on the following: Did the doctor seem to be listening to you? Were your questions answered? Was a medical history taken? Were you informed of possible side effects of drugs or tests? Was respect shown for your need of privacy? Was the doctor open to the suggestion of a second opinion?

Ransomware 101: 6 Tips to Protect Your Company From a Ransomware Attack

A brazen security breach. A vicious hijacking. An ultimatum, followed by a time-sensitive ransom demand. It all sounds like the plotline for Liam Neeson's next movie. But we're actually talking about a very real threat that you face every time you plop down behind your desk and fire up your computer. Who knew your job could provide so much intrigue?

The threat is known as Ransomware. It's an ugly type of software that allows cyber bad guys to essentially hijack your company's data and hold it host until you fork over a ransom to get it back. It goes by a number of names-you may remember hearing about the CryptoLocker virus which was taken down last year, followed by the unreported CryptoWall, which recently resurfaced in its "3.0" version after a brief period of dormancy. Regardless of what form it takes, ransomware can have a downright scary effect on a company's business operations.

Like any malware of this kind, ransomware is typically spread through a veiled email attachment, interaction with a website that has been compromised, or through an infected computer program. Once it strikes a computer or a network, the files therein become encrypted, making them virtual useless. Once a system has been compromised, a message typically appears informing the user that their data is gone and will not be returned until a ransom is paid.

Often this malware comes across as a message from the FBI, stating that the user performed some sort of illegal operation and must pay a fine to retrieve the data. These claims are, of course, nonsense; No legitimate law enforcement agency conducts business this way. But the correspondence looks just official enough to admit a percentage of victims to pay up on the spot. Even if you do pay the ransom, there's certainly no guarantee that your data will ever be restored. We are dealing with cyber scum after all.

It looks like these cyber threats are here to stay, so it's important for organizations to take concrete steps in order to protect themselves. With that in mind, here are six key tips to protect your valuable data from being hijacked through ransomware.

1. Backup Your Data!

This can not be overemphasized. Make sure your files are saved and backed up beyond the desktop. A simple step is to save files in a network folder as well as on a simple external hard drive. Just make sure that the hard drive does not remain connected to your workstation, as it will remain vulnerable to attack as well.

For businesses to stay safe though, this is not enough. It's time to …

2. Embrace the Cloud

As if you needed another reason to adopt the cloud for your business, here we have another one. Backing up your files with a cloud provider is an ideal solution to combat the threat of ransomware. The provider stores your data on their servers in a secure data center. You can access said files any time from anywhere, as long as you have an Internet connection. A qualified IT provider will have their own security measures in place to ensure that your data is properly backed up and safe.

You also have to be vigilant about keeping the threats out of your system in the first place. That starts with making smart choices, for instance …

3. DO NOT OPEN Attachments if you Do not Know the Source

Did you read that? Good, now look up one line and read it again. This really should be self-explanatory at this point, but it still happens. The most common avenue for malware like this to infect a network is through downloading an email attachment. Sometimes it's masked as an urgent message, a voicemail message, a fax, or even a joke. If you decide to open a file from someone you do not know, the joke could be on you in the form of a pink slip. Find out for sure if any attachment is legit before you even think about opening it. Once you do, it's usually too late to go back.

That's why it's so important for a company to …

4. Teach Your Employees How to be Vigilant

It's such an easy thing, yet even today it's often overlooked: Talk to the people that work for your company and show them how to protect themselves (and the company) while online. Teach them what we just talked about, educate them on how viruses and malware can enter a network, and show them exactly what kind of damage these attacks can cause.

Make sure they know to only browse and download from sites that are trusted, and not to click on banners or other links without knowing exactly what they are and who they're from. If anyone receives an official-looking warning about software that they must download to get their system up to date, make sure they do not do it unless they know it to be true.

Seem elementary? Sure it does. But companies today can not afford to accumulate or leave anything to chance. Teach your employees how to practice safe computing and make sure they understand that they will be held accountable for careless mistakes. Even better, take some options out of their hands through …

5. Content Filtering

No matter how much you educate employees, there's always a chance that they'll still engage in online behavior that leaves the company vulnerable; In some cases, not by accident (disgruntled employees pose a viable threat to security). That said, it's a good idea to have a solid content filtering system in place to keep employees on the straight and narrow. Not only will you keep wasted time to minimum, you'll also be taking a step to protect the company's data.

A qualified IT service provider can work with you to find a content filtering solution that works best for you and your organization. For instance, even if you do not want to completely restrict employee access to certain websites, we can implement a solution where interaction alone will be restricted. For instance, an employee could sign into Facebook, but would not be able to like, share, comment or download.

So employee monitoring is important, but you also have to …

6. Use Protection

It's important to make sure all of your anti-virus software is up to date. As viruses are created and unleashed on the public, they can slip past anti-virus software until a "patch" is created that combats that specific virus. It's like a never-ending game between the virus creators and the virus fighters. Those threats that are yet unknown to anti-virus software are known as Zero-Day Viruses, and leave systems vulnerable until a patch is created and implemented. Some modern browsers also offer add-ons that effectively combat ransomware by keeping scripts from running automatically.

This is yet another reason to partner with a qualified cloud provider. When you work with an IT provider, make sure that your security measures are properly updated so you always have the most up to date security in place protecting your company's valuable data. Dell SonicWALL technology, offered through many IT service providers, is as good as it gets when it comes to keeping company data safe and secure.

If ransomware infects your company's network, the effects can be crippling. By incorporating a few common sense initiatives and taking proactive steps, you can minimize your company's risk. Your best defense though is to leave it to the professionals. A qualified and targeted service provider can guide you through the malware minefield to make sure your organization is as safe as possible, at a price that works within your budget.

Hopefully your organization has taken the proper steps to remain protected from ransomware and other potential cyber threats. Once your network is infected, it's too late. If a workstation does become infected, disconnect from the Internet as soon as possible, quickly unplug any peripheral storage devices and call a qualified IT service provider as soon as possible.

Pulsating Tinnitus – Determining Its Causes

Many are unaware of what pulsating tinnitus really is. A lot of individuals are clueless about its origin or how people acquire this certain ailment. Many people, however, have known the symptoms or the signs determining that they are suffering with this specific disorder.

To provide you with more knowledge relating to Tinnitus, I will point out a few of its common minor and major causes. By knowing such information, you will easily identify some prevention techniques which will help you get rid of this problem. Furthermore, it leads you to finding the right cure in case you experience Tinnitus.

Our pulse and heart beat normally produces a sound which we can barely hear. The moment you experience a pulsating tinnitus, you will hear an annoying ringing sound in your ears that is caused by the normal beating of your heart and pulse. Also, the blood flow in your body is one of the causes of the ringing sound you hear. What's more infuriating about this condition is that you may not be able to listen properly. The ringing sound can be deafening.

Tinnitus can either be objective or subjective. The objective type is the one which other people could hear the ringing sound. This is totally a strange and uncommon particular condition for individuals having tinnitus; However, this can easily be cured. The subjective type, on the other hand, is the one which is most common and easiest to treat. Regardless of what type of Tinnitus you have right now, it is always important to determine first the root causes in order to figure out the right treatment.

To continue discussing the causes of pulsating tinnitus, let me give you more of the possible reasons why an individual can experience this problem. The inner ear is composed of very delicate structures. Once these structures get damaged, you may have a chronic infection problem which increases the blood flow to the damaged tissues located in the ear. The blood flow triggers the irritating ring sound. Not only that, the damages in your inner ear can also result in the echoing of your heartbeat, pulse, and breathing. Every time you speak, you will hear a deep loud sound in your ears which is really strange and not comfortable.

Another cause of pulsating tinnitus the sinus problems. Individuals taking the wrong medicine or taking the wrong dosage of medicine could have some problems in their inner ear. This is because taking too many antibiotics could actually thicken the mucous layer found in the inner part of the ear. The thickening of the mucous layer could trigger the ringing sound. Also an identified cause of Tinnitus is the thyroid dysfunction or dysfunction Hyperthyroidism. In this case, the heart beats faster which later on will produce a pulsating noise. Stress, depression, and the negative side-effects of taking drugs are also among the few factors causing the ringing noise problem.

Tips For Trimming Toenails

Clipping toenails is an easy task – and you can stop the ingrown toenails that make you flinch. Different steps to follow while you trim your nails.

  • Spread tissue or newspapers on the ground to catch nail clippings.
  • Sit on the ground and hold toe clippers in one hand, grasping your foot with the other. Your foot should be placed over the tissue or newspaper.
  • Cut straight across your big toenail.
  • Repeat for other toes.
  • Gather the tissue or paper with clippings and throw away.
  • Warnings: Cut toenails straight across and avoid cutting them too short; otherwise, you might get ingrown toenails (a condition in which edges of toenails push into the skin).
  • The best way prevent ingrown is to cut straight across the nail and then remove any sharp edges with a file.
  • Cut your toenails outside, so you don’t need to worry about runaway ones!
  • Thick toenails treatment: If you have rather thick and/or very dry toenails, instead of clipping try to just file them; this prevents cracks in the nail. An electric pedicure set can be very helpful, but handle with care

Ingrown toenails

  • Toenails, Ingrown – Ingrown toenails are a common toenail problem of uncertain etiology. Various causes include poorly fit (tight) footwear, infection, improperly trimmed toenails, trauma, and heredity. The great toe is the most commonly involved.
  • An ingrown toenail is a common condition in which the corner or side of one of your toenails grows into the soft flesh of your toe. The result is pain, redness, swelling and, sometimes, an infection. The condition usually affects your big toe.
  • In most cases, you can take care of ingrown toenails on your own. If the pain is severe or spreading, however, your doctor can take steps to relieve your discomfort and help you avoid complications.
  • If you have diabetes or another condition that causes poor circulation to your feet, you’re at greater risk of complications. Seek a doctor’s advice earlier on caring for an ingrown toenail.

Signs and symptoms
Signs and symptoms of an ingrown toenail include: Pain and tenderness in your toe along one or both sides of the nail. Redness around your toenail. Swelling of your toe around the nail. Infection of the tissue around your toenail

Ingrown toenails result when the nail grows into the flesh of your toe, often the big toe. Common causes include:

Risk factors of toenails

  • Anyone can develop an ingrown toenail. But you may be more prone to ingrown toenails if you have toenails that curve down or grow faster at the edges than at the center.
  • Ingrown toenails are also more common in older adults, because nails tend to thicken with age. This thickening or change to the curvature of your nails can cause ingrown toenails.
  • When to seek medical advice: If you experience severe discomfort in your toe or pus or redness that seems to be spreading, see your doctor. If you have diabetes or any circulation impairment to your lower extremities, seek the advice of a foot doctor (podiatrist) on how to properly care for ingrown toenails. Also seek prompt treatment for any foot sore or infection.

  • Left untreated or undetected, an ingrown toenail can infect the underlying bone and lead to a serious bone infection.
  • Complications can be especially severe if you have diabetes, because the circulation and nerve supply to your feet can become impaired. Therefore, any relatively minor injury to your foot – cut, scrape, corn, callus or ingrown toenail – can lead to a more serious complication. In rare cases, an ingrown toenail can result in a difficult-to-heal open sore (foot ulcer), which could eventually require surgery. Foot ulcers left untreated may become infected and eventually even gangrenous. Sometimes amputation is the only treatment.

Toenail Treatment
If home remedies don’t help, your doctor can treat an ingrown toenail by trimming or removing the ingrown portion of your nail to help relieve pain. Before this procedure, your doctor numbs your toe by injecting it with an anesthetic. After the procedure, you may need to rest your foot and soak it in warm water. Your doctor may also recommend using topical or oral antibiotics, especially if the toe is infected or at risk of becoming infected.

For a recurrent ingrown toenail, your primary doctor or foot doctor may suggest removing a portion of your toenail along with the underlying tissue (nail bed) to prevent that part of your nail from growing back. This procedure can be done with a chemical, a laser, or other methods.

Powerful Nail Fungus Treatment From CURED-NailFungusCure

Nail fungus is an infection in the nail bed and usually starts when the fungus gets into the skin through a cut, scratch or wound. Now, before you go running and screaming to the doctor there are a few things that you need to be clear of first.

Symptoms of nail fungus include brownish or yellowish stain of the nails, easily-breaking nails and thick nails. Pain can be experienced around the nail and in some sever cases nails may fall off. The edge of the nail with a fungal infection will generally become a white color and this will slowly travel from the edge of the nail right up to the cuticles ultimately. The nail may then split with the infection and become yellow in color and also rather hard and unattractive in appearance.

Nail fungus can be prevented by taking the following steps. (1) Always keep your hands dry and clean and use your own washcloths and towels. (2) Do not share personal things such as nail files, nail polish and nail clippers. (3) Be careful when trimming, filing and cutting nails to avoid injury. (4) If you are suffering from nail fungus, it is best not to wear artificial nails or nail polish. (5) People who have poor immune systems are more prone to nail fungus; therefore if you are suffering from any medical concerns it is recommended to treat the risk of having nail fungus.

One of the most important things to remember with a toenail fungus is that regardless of whether or not it has actually been diagnosed you should not walk around with bare feet. You should wear new shoes and throw away the older ones after you receive nail fungus treatments to prevent the risks of recontamination.

Of course, prevention is best to avoid nail fungus but if the fungus does occur, you must take actions to solve the problem. Obviously if you have managed to get a cure at the onset of a fungal infection, the nail will not become so unattractive in practice. However, leaving the nail without right treatment can eventually lead to the nail bed lifting and debris collecting under it which will not only look awful but can be very painful at the same time.

The more the infection spreads on the nail, the more the nail itself will detach from the nail bed and without nail fungus treatments you may find that you will eventually be left with no nail. The best way to prevent this is to visit your doctor or other medical professional as soon as you notice that anything has changed with your nails and to get a treatment as soon as you can.

Also you can search some useful information about the nail fungus treatments on the Internet in advance and there are some options you can take for treatment. (1) Prescribed oral medications are effective, which must be taken for several months. However, these medications can have harmful side effects including headaches, upset stomach, liver damage and rashes. (2) Over the counter treatments. This are effective for your average case of fungal infection. You have to know which one that works though. (3) Natural remedies such as apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil are supposedly helpful in treating finger nail fungus. In addition, some essential oils can treat the condition, initially. Aside from curing finger nail fungus, these natural oils have other benefits in the overall health.

Bearings in Everyday Items

Tips and Strategies For Coping With a Panic Disorder

Panic attacks are the primary symptom of a panic disorder and are extremely terrifying to the individuals who experience them. A panic attack that comes on suddenly and without warning, is an abnormal reaction of extreme fear and anxiety to a situation that an individual perceives to be threatening when in fact, there is no threat at all.

The symptoms of this physical response can mimic that of a heart attack with sweating, nausea, extreme feeling of terror, rapid heartbeat or chest pain. Individuals who have a panic disorder live in constant fear of having another attack.

Following Your Treatment Plan and Changing Your Lifestyle

Following the treatment plan prescribed by your doctor is essential in preventing or reducing the symptoms of a panic disorder. Keep all scheduled therapy appointments and take any medications exactly as prescribed.

Joining a support with other people who are facing the same issues with a panic or anxiety disorder is very beneficial for moral support as well as learning strategies and coping skills which have been effective for others. Avoid the use of nicotine, alcohol, or illicit drugs as these substances can make you more prone to having a panic attack or increase the symptoms.

You should also avoid over-the-counter medications such as diet pills and cold medications that may contain stimulants as these can also trigger or increase the symptoms of an anxiety attack. Getting plenty of sleep and regular physical activity such as aerobic exercise can have a positive effect on mood and also calms the nerves.

Learning relaxation and stress reducing methods such as meditation and yoga are also very beneficial in reducing panic attacks or their symptoms. Firmly remind yourself that these attacks are only temporary and that they do not endanger you medically.

Reducing the Symptoms of a Panic Attack

Learning the methods and techniques to control your breathing can reduce the symptoms of a panic as well as avoid a full-blown panic attack from occurring. The hyperventilation which typically occurs during a panic attack causes the symptoms of tightness in the chest and lightheadedness or dizziness.

Taking deep breaths or breathing into cupped hands or a paper bag can help you to control your breathing which will help you to relax and calm you down while also restoring the oxygen level in your body.

Learn to focus on something else such as music or a relaxing hobby or task when you feel a high level of anxiety or a panic coming on until these feelings or sensations subside. Learning to control and cope with the stress in your life can also be very beneficial in preventing panic attacks.

You can learn to efficiently manage your level of stress by finding a support group or class that focuses on stress management. With proper medical treatment and strategies for coping, panic disorders are manageable and ninety percent of individuals who receive treatment have a significant decrease in symptoms and can lead a normal and productive life.

Type 2 Diabetes – It’s Not Just Overweight People Who Get Diabetes

For the majority of people, a physically active lifestyle will go a long way towards preventing Type 2 diabetes. Those who are trying to treat their high and unstable blood sugar will benefit from changing their sedentary ways. Not only is exercise essential, but it is often instrumental in managing the course of diabetes because of its positive effects on insulin resistance and blood sugar levels.

Also, exercise helps address the number one cause of Type 2 diabetes: central (abdominal) obesity and insulin resistance. Those who are even mildly overweight are at a risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. As such, it is not surprising to see most diabetics are overweight.

But there are always exceptions. Some are even puzzling. Even though Type 2 diabetes is predictable, it can still act in odd ways. Clearly, this is the case when genetic factors are involved, exposing certain people to hyperglycemia more than others.

There is one exception we would like to discuss, and it is that of Type 2 diabetes affecting fit individuals. Standard advice suggests exercising and maintaining a healthy weight will almost always be enough to keep high blood sugar at bay. The odd times where it still strikes, however, can be attributed to one factor causing high blood sugar…

  • Diet and nutrition. Your nutrition may be to blame if you are in reasonable shape and you have a diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes. Even if there are some underlying genetic factors at work, such as a slightly impaired insulin response, your diet is the cause if you are fit and still have high blood sugar.

Uncontrollable factors like an autoimmune disorder are ruled out for one reason: if this was responsible, you would have Type 1 diabetes and more than likely would have been diagnosed when you were younger.

Being toned and fit with high blood sugar isn’t the norm, but it does happen. Moreover, it is almost always due to an excessive daily intake of carbohydrates, particularly, sugar…

  • sodas,
  • fruit juices,
  • biscuits,
  • pastries,
  • sweets, and

other common junk foods are usually involved.

While you could still eat your staples like oatmeal, bread, and pasta, you may be eating too much if you are fit and still have high blood sugar. If you have Type 2 diabetes and it is attributed to this cause, you are at least lucky in the sense it can be treated. Most will have to lose weight and go through a complete change in lifestyle to reverse the disease. But if your diet is the primary cause, a few but significant dietary changes will be all that is necessary.

You could see improvement in as early as a few weeks. A few months of eating a healthy diet with the sensible amount of carbs would be enough to bring your sugar reading back to normal.

As essential as it is to be fit and control your weight, never forget you still need a balanced diet.

The Cancer Prevention Diet: Lower Your Risks Today

Fighting cancer is hard, so why not do something to prevent it from occurring in the first place? More and more people are finding out that simple changes in diet and lifestyle are enough to drastically reduce their chances of getting all types of cancer. This can also work for those who have already been diagnosed by the disease and are seeking help from a naturopathic doctor.

In this case, the physician will tell you to remove foods that feed cancer and consume foods that boost your immune system and cleanse your body. This way, you can enhance your health and your ability to combat cancer.

The Ties Between Cancer and Your Diet

There’s plenty of evidence that links together what you eat with the development of cancer. This is great news for people who don’t mind exercising their free will to pick and choose better foods and drinks to consume. Your lifestyle choices also greatly affect your risks of getting cancer. Obviously, drinking too much alcohol and smoking cigarettes can also increase your chances of getting cancer.

If you don’t workout, this is inviting cancer to take over. You need to exercise to keep your vital organs doing what they do best – keeping you alive. Sedentary lifestyles lead to obesity, heart disease and diabetes, among other illnesses.

Eating organic foods is essential to keeping away harmful chemicals that can contribute to cancerous growths. Pesticides and herbicides are dangerous and accumulate in your body. This toxic buildup is what eventually allows cancer to form. Once it does, you will need to start eating and living better. You can also get help from one of the qualified alternative cancer treatment centers near you.

Do GMOs Cause Cancer?

There’s a lot of talk in the conventional and naturopathic doctor community regarding the dangers of genetically modified foods. This consists of plants and animals that have had their DNA altered to allow it to withstand droughts, cold weather and grow larger. They are also are designed to produce an insecticide to keep bugs from eating them.

The FDA insists that GMOs are safe for human consumption, however, these foods have only been placed in short-term studies. Animal tests have been done by independent scientists that reveal otherwise. It shows that GMOs can cause certain types of cancer. It also showed that even small amounts of pesticide can increase your risks of certain cancers, like breast cancer, leukemia, brain tumors, lymphoma, prostate cancer and brain tumors.

Now, let’s review what you can do to improve your diet to lower your risk of cancer.

Eat More Cancer-Fighting Fruits and Veggies

There’s no particular food you should be eating, but an assortment of fruits and veggies that help to combat cancerous growths is recommended. Eating a well-balanced whole food diet is still crucial. However, the following should definitely be implemented into your daily meals:

  • Broccoli
  • Spinach
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Beans
  • Dark leafy greens
  • Tomatoes
  • Guava
  • Watermelon
  • Peas
  • Oranges
  • Berries

Eat Plenty of Fiber

Keeping a clean colon is essential for maintaining a healthy body. One way to do this is to consume lots of fiber. There are a variety of foods you can add to your breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner to increase your intake of fiber, which can stem from whole grains, fruit, legumes and vegetables, such as the following:

  • Bran muffins
  • Brown rice
  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Bananas
  • Carrots
  • Celery
  • Bell peppers
  • Beans

Water should also be added – drink plenty of this to keep your body flushed of toxins and waste.

Cut Back On Processed and Red Meat

The number one issue with meat is that it processes through the body very slowly. This is because it lacks fiber, which as we see is essential for fighting cancer. Those who consume a lot of processed meats tend to have a higher risk of colon cancer. Then most processed meats are contaminated with pesticides, herbicides, GMOs and hormonal injections, which further increase your chances of developing cancer. Naturopathic doctors recommend choosing non-processed meat that is organic, grass-fed and contains no injected hormones or antibiotics.

Basset Hound Eyes – What Is Normal?

What is normal?

Looking at your Basset Hound you will see slightly sunken eyes with sagging lower eyelids which is standard for this breed of dog. Basset Hounds are predisposed to more visible eye hawes, otherwise known as the third eyelid or in dog anatomy terms, the nictitating membrane. In most dog breeds, the haw is unseen at the inner corner of the eye but a Basset Hound’s eye structure typically shows a more obvious third eyelid. Throughout the varying breeds and sizes of canines this covering layers is the same but will vary in coloring ranging from clear to cloudy and some with a few dark splotches. All dogs have third eyelids which along with the upper and lower eyelids and tears are the protective features of the eyes. Healthy eyes should be clear and bright, and the area around the eyeball should be white. The pupils should be equal in size and there shouldn’t be tearing, discharge or any crust in the corners of his eyes.

Signs of trouble

  • Discharge & crusty gunk
  • Tearing
  • Red or white eyelid linings
  • Tear-stained fur
  • Closed eye(s)
  • Cloudiness or change in eye color
  • Visible third eyelid (more so than usual)
  • Unequal pupil sizes

If any of these symptoms persist, a trip to the veterinarian would be in order as they can be indicative of any one of the Basset Hound prone conditions which include:

  • Entropian:
  • a rolling inward of the eyelids causing the eyelashes to brush the eyeball causing pain, tearing and discharge.

  • Ectropian:
  • or turning out of the eyelids, a catch-all for foreign particles to cause irritation and damage.

  • Primary glaucoma:
  • is a heightened visceral pressure of the eye due to a blockage of eye fluid. Vision loss and retinal damage can result from the increase in eyeball size.

  • Dermoid cysts:
  • inherited imperfections on the eyeball that bear resemblance to skin, can grow hair and cause eye aggravation.

  • Ulcerative keratitis:
  • very painful with sensitivity to light and visual stimuli due to corneal ulcers penetrating one or all thicknesses of the cornea which causes swelling and degeneration

  • Nictitans gland protrusion:
  • bulging of the gland inside the third eyelid otherwise known as cherry eye. Exposure of this gland causes swelling and irritation that looks like a cherry.

Caring for your sweet Basset Hound’s eyes starts with looking at them in a clear bright light which is something we Basset Hound owners never seem to get enough of. The more often we observe them the sooner we detect early symptoms resulting in a more successful treatment.
