Could You Have Nomo-phobia?

There seems to be a name for every bizarre fear these days, ideophobia is the fear of ideas! Arachibutyrophobia is the fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth! And geniophobia is the fear of chins! So what is nomo phobia? Nomo phobia is the fear of being un-contactable because your mobile phone is not working!

You Gov have surveyed 2,163 people for research that the head of telephony at the Post Office has commissioned. The survey shows that one in five mobile phone users feel as stressed as when they move house or break up with a partner when they cannot be contacted by their mobile phone.

There are 45 million mobile phone users in the UK and 53% of users experience anxiety over losing their mobile phone, losing network coverage, or running out of battery life. You Gov discovered that men felt more anxious than women about their mobile phones, with 58% of men feeling anxious compared to 48% of women.

20% of all the people surveyed never turned off their mobile phones, and 10% of people surveyed needed to be contactable at all times due to their jobs and 9% of people become anxious when there mobile phone was switched off. 55% of people gave keeping in touch with family and friends as the main reason for being so attached to their mobile phones.

Nomo-phobia could be caused by our 24/7 culture, or maybe people are just becoming too attached to their mobile phones. Personally I am astounded by the surveys results and can’t understand why somebody could feel so stressed about their mobile phone.

Public Speaking and Anxiety: How to Fight the Fear

Not surprisingly, many people fear public speaking. For people who suffer panic and anxiety attacks, it can become a major source of distress. Public speaking doesn’t necessarily mean standing on a podium and giving a speech. It can be as simple as sitting in a classroom and having a discussion with peers and feeling tight-chested, short of breath, and incapacitated by anxiety just because of having to speak in front of other people. This fear is centered on giving verbal feedback to others.

The fear experienced by people who suffer from panic attacks and anxiety disorders is different from the typical public speaking anxiety. Jitters and nervousness before giving a speech are quite common, but having a panic attack, which is a debilitating situation, is not something most people experience.

People who have to deal with anxiety and panic attacks can fight the fear of public speaking in a few ways. The key is to build confidence, getting back to a non-anxious state of mind. Now, instead of experiencing anxiety and suddenly thinking “oh no, how am I going to deal with this?”, we can instead turn the anxiety to our advantage. Thinking “I knew this was going to happen, and have been expecting it. I am not threatened by these sensations and will conquer my fears instead of being debilitated” can be a powerful antidote.

Controlling fear and anxiety in this way can help you fight the fear of public speaking. These intense feelings can actually fuel your speech, giving you momentum instead of making you unable to continue delivering your speech.

Are All Drugs Addictive?

Addiction, in medical terms is a condition in which a human body depends on something for its normal functioning, which further leads to physical dependence. Addiction triggers as a mental issue and proceeds to a physical reliance. In such a state a person tend to rely on a typical substance or a drug that seems to give him relief. An escalated drug tolerance is what we know as addiction. One can even get addicted to prescribed drugs; It need not necessarily be due to drug abuse.

It is quite tough a job to answer whether all drugs are addictive or not, it depends on how one defines addiction. Some feel that psychological dependence on a drug or any other substance is addiction. It can be anything. Some people are inclined toward these things and feel that they can not live without the influence of the substance. This is more of a problem with the person who is using it than the substance or drug itself. Dependence is after all a human nature; We can not blame a drug just because we depend on it. This has more to do with the mental state of one's mind than the physical.

Now, talking of physical dependence, it happens with certain drugs. We get used to some particular drugs typically and can not survive without it. This happens due to repetitive use of the same drug for a reasonable period of time and in heavy doses. Tranquilizers, heroine and also the common alcohol are the major addictives. These drugs are the most potent ones and are usually consumed in heavy doses and on a regular basis. Irregularity can lead to severe complications like flu, the shakes and at times can also lead to death. The body and he mind are totally dependent ion the drug and is prevention against sickness.

The cause of drug addiction largely depends on the drug in use or abuse, the person using it and also the situations in which the drug is taken. It is the weakness of a person that leads to addiction. Some social issues are also being held responsible for drug addiction. Mental weakness, peer pressure, emotional set back and inferiority complex, any of these can be responsible for addiction. Drugs can not be blamed.

It is true that tranquilizers have an addictive effect, so are some of the commonly used cough syrups, but that happens incase of an overdose. Normal dosage is fine and helpful too.

One should not get messed up with the terms drug-dependence and drug-abuse. These are totally different terms and have different meanings. Dependence is the after-effect of stopping the use of a drug, while abuse refers to knowingly over-using a drug. The former is more tolerance and the later is a chronic symptom.

Seeping pills and other drug like ecstasy, LSD and cannabis, when used regularly can cause psychological dependence, physical dependence is unilaterally. Drugs, which are more of stimulants like crack, cocaine, nicotine and amphetamine also lead to psychological dependence, the physical dependence of these drugs, are yet to be proved.

It is intimidating to hear that there are many people suffering with toenail fungal infections. They fear that toenail fungus treatment is expensive to completely cure and thus they fail to start prescribed medication to cure nail infection completely in time. However, they are anxious to know whether they can depend on home remedies for toenail fungus. Initially they ignore the infected toenail but feel later when they notice changes in color and shape of the nail. Perhaps the infected nail may get discolored to Yellow or Dark Brown. But in due course, the healthy nail tends to crack and crumble to fragments leading to an ugly look. There is chance that the nail gets detached from the nail bed.

Since you are at stake with developed ingrown toenail infection, consulting a physician can help cure toenail fungus at the initial stage itself with simple treatment. If you want to avoid adverse side effects, you can choose natural home remedies. It is true that many people have recovered to normal condition of the nail by having regular medication. Though the result cannot be achieved by overnight, you can get rid of toenail fungus within three or four months.

There are home based remedies for treating toenail fungus, and you can depend on them with all hopes to get rid of nail fungus. But you must choose the right type of remedial treatment which suits your condition. But be sure, there is no side effect as in the case of drug medications, and so you can choose natural home remedies for treating nail fungus.

Getting Rid of Centipedes – Why Using Boric Acid is a Mistake!

You’ve got centipedes in your house and now all you can think of is getting rid of those centipedes! One of the tried and true solutions for bugs of many kinds is boric acid, but it will not cure you of your centipede problem.

What is Boric acid? It is the original pesticide you probably had it around the house as a kid. Moms even used to put it in baby diapers to prevent diaper rash, until we found out that this was harmful to the baby in the long run. Boric acid is toxic to bugs (and people as mentioned, but only in really high doses), and it kills them. The good news, it will kill centipedes, the bad news, it won’t rid your house of them permanently.

Why won’t Boric Acid Cure the Problem?

Because the boric acid you spread around the base boards etc will wear away over time, and once it’s gone the centipedes will come right back into the home. Especially if you haven’t taken steps to eliminate what is drawing those little pests into your home!

So what should you do?

Learn a little bit about why they are in your home. Centipedes need food and water to survive, and they need more water than other bugs, like spiders. One of the ways to get rid of centipedes is eliminate the moisture in the home. Look for damp spots under sinks, and in the bathroom. Look under the home if you have a crawl space and see if you have any small drips.

Once the moisture issue is solved, it is time to address their food. Centipedes are carnivores, so you need to figure out what they are eating, and get that bug out of your home. One strategy for this is to use bug traps, and analyze what you catch. For example, if you catch ants, then you need to take measures to get rid of your ants, so the centipedes don’t have any food.

Is There a Cure For Toenail Fungus?

Have you noticed your toenails changing color or your nail becoming thicker than normal? If you have then you may have a toenail fungus. Millions of people across the world have this condition and trying to find a cure for toenail fungus is often difficult if you don’t know where to look. The problem is that this condition is not talked about a lot and because of this there is a lot of misinformation and uneducated opinions floating around.

Do I Have Toenail Fungus?

Don’t rush out to find a toenail fungus cure until you are sure if you have contracted this fungus first. You will know right away if you have a toenail fungus infection because your nail begin to change color. A fungal infection will often turn your nail yellow, brown, or black. if you have a nail that begins to change colors, then there is a good chance you have a toenail fungus infection. If you choose to ignore this problem, or hope it will go away by itself, then your nail will become thick, change shape, begin to flake, and it can spread to the rest of your nails. In some very extreme cases it can even cause permeate damage to the nail bed.

What Is The Best Cure For Toenail Fungus?

One of the most popular cures for toenail fungus is to soak your foot in vinegar. For this method to work you need to soak your foot twice a day, every day for a month. People have reported some success with this method, but it has its drawbacks. First, it can be difficult to make the time to do this every single day. Second, once you stop using this method the toenail fungus will usually come back.

Listerine is another method that is being talked about lately. The procedure is similar to vinegar because your are required to soak your foot daily in a Listerine bath. It will help but you have to keep up the soaking for months, even after the new nail has grown in. The results from this method are nothing to brag about. All to often, after the treatment is stopped, the nasty little fungus returns.

Another supposed cure for toenail fungus is Yogurt. Yogurt contains acidophilus that is supposed to relieve any type of fungus. Most people will tell you to rub yogurt on your infected nail daily until the fungus goes away. However, here is a big problem with this method because I have never met or talked to anyone who has successfully cured their toenail fungus by rubbing yogurt on it.

If you want to cure your toenail fungus, then you might want to consider seeing your doctor. Your doctor will prescribe you some medication that will get rid of your toenail fungus. But even this has its drawbacks. The first is the price. These medications are very expensive so you better hope your insurance will cover it. The second is the possible side effects. Read the warning label and you will see that these medications can cause liver and kidney damage.

If you want a cure for toenail fungus gather all of the facts, weigh your options, and make an educated decision that will work for you.

Hair Weave – The Real Cost of a Hair Weave

The cost of a hair weave can range from $100 for a quick weave up to $2,000 for a celebrity quality weave. There are several variables that make up the price, such as full head or partial weave, sewn in or bonded, human hair or synthetic hair. Not only is there a cost for the initial hair weave process, you must also consider the cost of regular care and upkeep. In this article we will break down the costs by category, so that you can customize a weave hairstyle to fit your budget.

First ask yourself a couple of questions. Do you want to enhance your appearance for a specific event (a special date or concert) or for several weeks (summer vacation, end of the year holidays, or just until your hair grows out)? Second, do you want to leave everything to your hairstylist or are you willing to do a little of the legwork yourself? And finally, how much are you willing to spend?

Type of Hair / How Much Hair (30% of the Cost)

From businesswomen to Hollywood stars, customers are demanding higher quality from the products they purchase. The type of hair you purchase will depend on the desired style. Hair textures range from silky straight, relaxed, deep wave to curly. Hair quality can range from poor quality synthetic hair to human hair of excellent quality. Virgin Indian hair is the most popular type for extensions. With Indian hair the wefts are reinforced and sewn tightly to prevent the hair from shedding.

If you are getting a full-head braid and sew-in weave the average person uses about six ounces of hair. Most brands sell about four ounces in each package. Some people will use more some will use less. It is best to purchase two packs to ensure you have enough. You can always use the extra hair later. If you are using hair that is 18″ or longer may need an additional pack (sometimes the ends look thin with very long hair). If you are only getting a few tracks or you are bonding the hair, one pack is enough for four to five tracks.

Normally, hair length runs from 10″ (about $80 per bag) to 18″ (about $130 per bag). There are many less expensive brands available, but keep in mind that quality can sometimes decrease with the lower price tag.

Synthetic hair is very inexpensive compared to human hair and is often used for ponytails or hair buns. The costs can range from $5.00 to $20.00 per package depending on length. Heating appliances such as curling irons, flat irons or straightening combs should never be used on synthetic hair. While there are newer versions of synthetic hair from brands that claim to allow styling with lower temperatures of heating appliances, people should steer clear of such claims. The golden rule with synthetic hair is that heat is not an option. Synthetic hair is best for short term use. Typically when the synthetic hair is shaped its best not to change it, it is “What you see is what you get”.

Weaving vs. Bonding (50% of Cost)

Bonding is a popular temporary weaving method and a great way to add volume or vibrant streaks of color to your natural hair. Tracks of hair are glued to the roots of your own hair near the scalp with a special adhesive. To prevent damage to your natural hair, tracks should not be left in longer than a week or two and must be removed with a special solution. On average the cost to apply is $10-20 per track (cut and style may or may not be included in your price).

With weaving, the natural tresses are braided around the head in concentric circles. The braids are sewn down, then extensions or wefts are sewn to the braids. On average six to ten tracks are needed for a full head. This technique can be maintained for several weeks or months. This is a very time intensive process and pricing will vary greatly, but on average the costs range from $20-$60 per track.

In the conclusion below you will learn how to completely eliminate this cost.

Regular Maintenance and Tighten Up (20% of Total Cost)

It is important to think of your extensions as your own hair. The average hair weave–whether glued, bonded, or sewn into natural hair–lasts about two months. During this time, you must wash your weave as well as your natural hair. Weave hair is especially prone to becoming brittle and dry because it is not attached to the scalp and therefore does not receive any of the body’s natural oils. As with your natural hair, if you do not properly care for your weave it will quickly develop split ends and become frizzy and unmanageable. On average, regular maintenance and tightening will cost $20-$40 per track and must be done every two to four weeks.

Conclusion

Ultimately you can tailor your weave to fit any budget. You may choose to purchase your own hair and have it professionally applied and styled. You may want to learn to weave it yourself, and then have it cut and styled by a professional. Or you may have it weaved and styled professionally and choose to tighten it yourself.

Weaves provide a way for you to experiment with new styles and current hair trends without damaging your natural hair with excessive heat or chemicals. Weaves provide new looks which are usually easily cared for, but you must be aware that these procedures have a limited life cycle.

Remember HAIR DOES MATTER!

Jaw hurts while chewing and eating

Look at that juicy, mouth-watering burger with smoked bacon, topped with caramelized balsamic onion, chanterelle mushroom, grilled pineapple and three kinds of cheeses.  Hmmm…high cholesterol burger.  You can’t wait to sink your teeth into one of the best burgers that was ever yanked out of a cow.  But wait, you can’t eat solid foods.  Your jaw hurts when you chew.  Your jaw also clicks and crackles when you chew and talk.

Each time you talk or chew you move the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).  If your jaw hurts, clicks, pops or loses its ability to open fully, then you’re not alone.  The prevalence of TMJ or jaw dysfunction in the general population is about 25%.  The TMJ is a complex junction in your skull which incorporates a disk, masticatory muscles and the interaction with your neck.

There are four main categories of TMJ disorders: myofascial pain, internal derangement, degenerative arthritis, and infection.  It’s beyond the scope of this article for me to discuss all of these TMJ disorders.  However, myofascial pain involving the digastrics, masseter and lateral pterygoid muscles affecting the TMJ is the most common.  Prolong opening of your mouth during dental work can negatively impact the function of your TMJ due to the stress and strain of the temporomandibular joint capsule and ligaments.   Whiplash injuries, bad head-neck posture, and chronic shoulder and neck pain can also contribute to TMJ pain.

Early signs of TMJ dysfunction vary from one person to another.  However, it’s commonly reported that headache, facial pain, jaw pain, impaired jaw mobility, clicking or crepitus, pain in the ear and masticatory muscles, stuffy sensation in the ears and dizzy spells are associated with TMJ dysfunction.  Chronic TMJ dysfunction can also cause you to grind and clench your teeth at night.

If there is no resolution to your TMJ problem despite consulting with a dentist and wearing a mouth guard at night, who do you turn to?   Well, you can consult with a chiropractor who specializes in treating TMJ problems.  Whether it’s capsulitis, synovitis, meniscal derangement, tendonitis or degenerative arthritis, chiropractic, manual and soft tissue treatments have been shown to be successful in treating TMJ pain.

You can do a few things to minimize your jaw pain until you have it assessed by a professional.  Avoid chewing gums, yawning fully or eating solid foods.  You might have to go on a soup, stew or mashed food diet until the pain subsides.  I often suggest this stretching exercise to my TMJ patients:

  • Sit in a relaxed and comfortable position. Now place your tongue in contact with the hard palate as far back as possible while keeping your jaw in a retracted position. Maintaining your tongue and jaw in this position, slowly and rhythmically open your mouth in a limited range ten times. When you finished with this warm up exercise, open your mouth as wide as possible within the pain-free limit and hold this open mouth position for about five seconds. Now relax and close your mouth for five seconds. Repeat this exercise two to three times a day.

Clean and Tidy Scalp Keeps Dandruff at Bay

Dandruff decreases your self confidence and it puts you into a vulnerable position. It is a mixture of loose and greasy flake, which when neglected for a long time can cause you fungus. Fungus makes you loose hair and thereby create a void of hair. Hair should be properly nursed and taken care of, when faced with these kinds of situation. Researchers and doctors were unable to determine the exact cause of dandruff but it was believed to be caused due to some external and internal factors. These combined factors harm your hair.

As the technological era passed, science developed solutions to these effects and hair growth turned reversible. New products and new innovations increased the chances of hair growth but not to the extent of originality.

Some of the external factors which effected our hair growth due to dandruff are fast paced modern life giving path to stress and fatigue, excessive dependence on styling gels, coloring agents, cold weather, alcoholic products, hair dryer, neglecting shampooing, neglecting hair oil and nutrients for hair, etc. We could see many more factors emerging as the fast paced lives grow.

Some of the internal factors, which are responsible for dandruff formation, are improper nutrition, lack of rest, allergy to medications and certain products which may stimulate flanking, over working basically lack of rest, hormonal imbalance, poor hygiene, etc are some of the internal factors, which could affect dandruff formation in humans.

Dandruff formation is common in every human being, as that is one of the medium which was invented for dead cells passage out of the human body. This natural process can be kept in control, if we regularly wash our hair and scalp. Improper attention to hair can make you accumulate dead cells thereby creating fungus in your scalp.

Dandruff can be noticed as a white patch or red formation in case of fungus with loose flakes flowing around your hair. In case of formation of ring worm or fungus, it is advisable to contact your dermatologist. Seborrhea capitos or excessive production of oily substance is the chief reason for Dandruff formation. Oily hair tends to preserve more amount of dandruff than dry hair.

Pityrosporum ovale is a kind of good fungus, which balances flaking but it can also become real pain, when it increases the rate of production, again it all depends upon the person and his health.

There are many therapies with fruit, vegetables, oil (medicated and natural oils), massage (for relaxation), and of course artificial medications, which help you to put the dandruff to some distance. Shampoos can really benefit you in reducing Dandruff. To regulate P.Ovale fungus an effective shampoo was invented by Dr. Paul

Janssen which is known as Nizoral which is proven to regulate the fungus in increasing dandruff. Swelling, Scabbing, ring worm, etc are some common effects of the fungus. Necessary protection can be taken by consulting a dermatologist who can assist you with right medication determining your skin type and allergy’s.

They say cleanliness is next to godliness it is always imperative to be clean and tidy which can reduce a number of infections. Stress and anxiety also should be reduced to combat Dandruff which is the major cause in the modern day world.

What Is Nodular Eczema?

Although laymen talk of “itching” when thinking about eczema, medical professionals refer to the term “nodular pruigo” to describe this source of discomfort. Pruigo specifically refers to the appearance of the skin after it has been scratched, in response to the itch for a prolonged period. Nodular pruigo comprises of raised bumps on the skin which are directly linked with the scratching. If the patient is able to resist the urge to scratch then this will cause the symptoms to settle down down. Although stopping scratching sounds easy, it is extremely difficult, trust me! I can’t help but scratch, even if it causes my skin to bleed I have to carry on, and I have a lot of self control!

There is no known cause of this type of eczema, and experts are at loggerheads as to what makes the skin behave in the way it does. However, the itching prompts scratching, which augments and prolongs the symptoms to make for a drawn out period of prolonged irritation. There have also been links drawn between stress and increased scratching.

Most of the patients suffering from this form of eczema tend to be atopic, which means their bodies react in an irregular way to allergens in the environment, ultimately causing this reaction. The condition can lead to symptoms such as severe itching which can disrupt sleep and daily life. The scratching becomes a habit as the only direct form of relief, yet makes this itching worse over the longer term, creating a vicious circle for the patient.

Patients suffering from nodular eczema usually have patches of skin covered in hard lumps which can be the source of endless discomfort. The rough surface is usually darker than other areas of the skin, and may contain numerous scratches or scabs caused by scratching. Most commonly, sufferers find these symptoms present on their arms and on their legs, although it is not uncommon for the condition to affect any part of the body.

The first prong of attack is usually a steroid based gel or cream. In severe cases a bandage can be applied over the cream increasing the effectiveness and also preventing scratching, just make sure you lock up all the knitting needles! This treatment can be soothing after a while, and can work toward reducing inflammation and treating the condition. As a first step, this is one of the most effective at reducing the symptoms of the condition.

One of the most successful treatments is known as UV phototherapy. This involves subjecting the areas in question to UV light by way of a ‘light box’. This is usually a procedure carried out in the doctor’s office, although you may be prescribed a light box for home use from your doctor. If you are at all unsure about this treatment, it is essential that you discuss your options with your doctor to determine the best options for you. Of course, the light box does come with its own side effects, so it’s important you learn how to use it properly and safely to avoid damaging your skin.

If a wide area of the skin is affected then you may want to try one of the medical UV booths, think tanning bed and you won’t be far wrong. I have tried this treatment, and quite frankly it scared the hell out of me! I was in my early teens when I tried it, and it did manage to clear up my symptoms while I was having the treatment, however as soon as I stopped they returned. Plus thanks to this treatment whenever I went outside I had to cover up, so personally it’s not for me!

A Different look into Exit Strategies – Trailing Stop Loss

Let’s start off with an introduction of what stop loss is which is an order placed with a broker to sell a security when it reaches a certain price. It is designed to limit the loss of a security position of an investor and often termed as stop order or stop market order.

In the case of trailing stop loss, it is just a set of more complex rule for stop loss to automatically shift accordingly to market conditions whereby the trailing stop loss behaviour is predetermined by the trader. More often than not the employment of trailing stop loss is overlooked with preference on the focus of entry strategies by many traders.

If you have experienced trading before and you tried to outsmart the market without a stop loss, how many points do you allow the market to move against you? 100points, 200points or 1000points? If it happens, how do you handle such a situation or did you just lay battered and bruise over the huge losses you have incurred because of your stubbornness?

I have been through such situations before and it was a torture until I have learnt my lesson on placing stop loss. Upon further experimentation with stop losses, I have come across something even more powerful which is the trailing stop loss.

The trailing stop loss order is beneficial in that it will follow the movement of the market when the order starts to profit. When you profit, the stop loss you set will move up a certain number of pips set by your own trailing stop rules as the market moves in favour of your trade position. Otherwise should the market go against your position, the stop loss will stay where it last trailed and will exit the trade should the market price hits your stop loss.

For example, if I am trading currency and I bought EUR/USD at 1.3000 with a stop loss of 1.2800. the market price rose up by a 100 points, at this point if I were to shift my stop loss to break-even point, I will just be trading on the risk of my profits and any other further movements upwards allows me to ride on the profits.

In short, if the market continues to move in your favour, trailing stop loss will rise along with it, locking in your profits whenever the market price reaches a certain level. If the market goes against you, the trailed stop loss is there to limit the damage on your profits or in the worse case even it does not trail, you do have your fundamental stop loss level in place.

As you progress further in your trade, never forget the number one rule which is to protect yourself in the market at all times. Only by having protective stop or in a more advanced case which is the trailing stop loss that you can prosper in the markets or survive another day even after a bad fall.

Resection surgery may be used to remove strictures, either one long stricture or a group of strictures that are close to one another, or it may be used to remove severely diseased portions of the small or large intestine. The goal of the surgery is to keep as much of the healthy bowel as possible. In particular, removing long segments of the small intestine is avoided because it can lead to nutritional deficiencies.

Partial resection of the colon is not typically used to treat ulcerative colitis, as the disease tends to return in the section of the colon that is left. A total colectomy, with or without the creation of an internal pouch, is the surgery most often used to treat ulcerative colitis…

Procedure

During a resection, general anesthetic is used. The surgery may be done either through open surgery or laparoscopic surgery, but open surgery is far more common. Laparoscopic surgery is typically used only in cases where the diseased section of intestine is located in the ileum, and there are no other complications.

In open surgery, one large incision will be made. The diseased section of the bowel is clamped off and removed. After the diseased portion of the intestine is removed, the two healthy ends are attached together (called anastomosis). In laparoscopic surgery, 3 to 4 small incisions are used. The abdomen is filled with gas so the surgeon can better see the abdominal cavity and a camera is inserted through one of the incisions.

Risks : –

  • Blood clots in the legs that may travel to the lungs
  • Breathing problems
  • Heart attack or stroke
  • Infection, including in the lungs, urinary tract, and belly…

Small Intestine Surgery

Surgery to remove a diseased or cancerous part of the small intestine (small bowel, duodenum, jejunum, and/or ileum). The surgery can be performed through a traditional, open incision, or using a laparoscopic technique, involving several smaller “keyhole” incisions.

Reasons : –

This procedure may be done to treat the following conditions : –

  • Bleeding, infection, or ulcers due to inflammation of the small intestine
  • Cancer
  • Crohn’s disease
  • Intestinal blockage
  • Injury
  • Precancerous polyps…

Depending on what type you have, your surgeon will make 1 or more incisions (cuts) in your belly. In a laparoscopic colectomy, the surgeon uses a camera to see inside your belly and small instruments to remove the part of your large bowel. You will have 3 to 5 small cuts in your lower belly. The surgeon passes the medical instruments through these cuts.

  • You may also have a cut of about 2 to 3 inches if your surgeon needs to put a hand inside your belly.
  • Your belly will be filled with gas to expand it. This makes the area easier to see and work in.
  • Your surgeon will remove the diseased part of your large bowel.
  • The surgeon will then sew the healthy ends of the bowel back together. This is called resecting.
  • Then your cuts will be closed with stitches.
  • For open colectomy, your surgeon will make 6-inch cut in your lower belly.
  • The surgeon will find the part of your colon that is diseased.
  • The surgeon will put clamps on both ends of this part to close it off.
  • Then the surgeon will remove the diseased part.
  • If there is enough healthy large intestine left, your surgeon will sew or staple the healthy ends back together. Most patients have this done.
  • If you do not have enough healthy large intestine to reconnect, your surgeon will make an opening called a stoma through the skin of your belly. Your large intestine will be attached to the outer wall of your belly. Stool will go through the stoma into a drainage bag outside your body. This is called a colostomy…

How to Light Up Stained Glass

Stained glass is so beautiful when displayed in a window where the sunlight shines through the glass. The effect of the sunlight reflecting light through the various glass textures and colors adds a dramatic elegance to the room.

To install art glass into a window opening you have two options. Purchase or make a glass piece that is the exact size of the window opening. Place the art glass piece over the existing window and secure with molding or brackets. Be sure to thoroughly clean the window prior to installation. To display smaller art glass pieces, hang it above the window using decorative chain or fishing line.

If you do not have a window where you would like to display your art glass piece, you can create a faux window. With a press of a button, your art glass will light up.

To turn your art glass into a faux window, you will need to make a shadow box. To make a shadow box you will need wood for the outer frame, sides and back of shadow box. You will also need rope lights or strip lights that will fit into the interior measurements of your shadow box.

First measure the length and width of the stained glass piece. Take these measurements from the outer perimeters of the glass. If you wish to have a mitered frame, add the width of the framing stock to your measurements.

Example: Measurements of perimeter of stained glass piece is 21″ x 24″.

Width of wood for frame is 2″.

Using a miter saw or miter box, cut 45 degree angles on each end.

You will need 2 pieces that are 25″ and 2 pieces that are 28″ from tip to tip.

Use wood glue and trim head screws to assemble your frame. Now you are ready to make the box part of the shadow box.

Cut 2 pieces of 1-1/2″ wide wood that are equal to the outer length of the art glass piece plus 1/4″ and two pieces that are equal to the outer width of the art glass piece plus 1/4″ and 2 times the thickness of the wood.

Using wood glue and brad nails assemble box sides and attach to frame. This leaves the back of the faux window open so that you can insert your glass. Place stained glass into shadow box and attach with glass brackets and/or silicone. Then add strip lights or rope lights around the interior of the box just behind the stained glass insert.

To make the back of the shadow box, cut a piece of plywood or masonite to fit over the assembled box sides and frame. Be sure to make a hole for the electrical cord. Using wood glue and brad nails, attach back to box sides.

An alternative to making a stained glass lighted shadow box would be to hang art glass in front of wall flooded from above by flood bulbs which are mounted behind a soffit. This method requires the glass artwork to be hung away from the wall about 4 – 5″. You can accomplish this by hanging art glass from the soffit which will allow the lighting to be behind the art glass just like sun shine coming through a window.
